More irrelevant personal stuff: As we begin SP’s any my penultimate weekend in the northern reaches of Illinois, we have been gifted by Nature with a massive snowstorm. Normally, it’s something I’d welcome, but it’s certainly made lifting and carrying things a challenge. Worse yet, we were planning to break out SP’s World’s Best Fondue (and that’s not an exaggeration) for Swiss, and Swiss was planning to bring pizza to The Wonder Dog, cementing his place as her Favorite Human Ever. But transport may be an issue… In any case, I gift you with another brilliant Krazy Kat, with a remarkably innovative use of the panel format.
Normally, I start things out with birthdays, but this time, we do need to acknowledge the anniversary of an important historical event. What was the first Hollywood film lampooning Hitler? Was it Chaplin’s The Great Dictator? Something by Frank Capra? Nope, it was… You Nazty Spy!, a short by the genius trio of Moe, Larry, and Curly, released on this day in 1940.
Now the birthdays, which today include the original James Watt (not the moron Reagan appointee); loser Robert E. Lee; proto-libertarian Lysander Spooner; writer, poet, and inspiration for my favorite football team, Edgar Allan Poe (and ask Spud about his visit to the Poe House in Baltimore); artery-clogger Paula Deen; the monumental Dolly Parton; one-eyed Katey Sagal; and SP’s favorite artist, Thomas Kinkade (/ducks for cover).
On to the news, and there’s plenty of that as well.
The amusement from the latest episode of Roadrunner and Coyote continues. And I’ll repeat the same thing I said about Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, et al: there’s so many REAL things to get pissed off about, why do people feel the need to make shit up?
And speaking of Roadrunner and Coyote, the latest RBG rumors. Any day now!
“Shutdown” Kabuki continues. There’s hints that Team Blue will be offered more boondoggles in exchange for Team Red’s pet boondoggle. And as usual, inevitably it will be taxpayers getting it up the poop chute. Nice month-long paid vacation for Federal leeches, of course.
Murdering Chicago cop will be back among us in three years. And nothing else happened.
Voter fraud is a made-up thing. Right?
Never apologize. Never apologize. Never apologize. And if you do, at least say, “I am sorry for agreeing with Barack Obama at that time. Christ, what an asshole”
Warty’ latest project. And that may not actually be a joke.
This is supposed to be a joke. And, channeling my Inner Prog, it’s more sad and frightening than funny.
More evidence that (((we))) are as stupid as the goyim.
And speaking of stupid, here’s The Atlantic filling pages with the rantings of a lunatic hypochondriac and taking it Very Seriously.
Oh, here’s more stupid. Perhaps we can have capital punishment for TV talking heads who mispronounce things. That will usher in a new era of racial justice.
There is no escaping Old Guy Music. I’ve previously sung the praises of Lee Barber, an Austin-based singer/songwriter who has perhaps the most expressive voice (both figurative and literal) that I’ve ever heard. This might be my favorite song of his, an incredibly sad and beautiful lament about moving, which encapsulates my current emotions perfectly.
Yes, the same storm is working towards SW Ohio, too.
I would support a really tall wall w/Canada just to keep all that polar air out.
Speaking of Canada- go ahead and HIT IT
I drove to work this morning in a sleet storm. The roads were just getting icy when I pulled into the parking lot.
Should be a fun day at work. Icy scrap going into the furnace makes for big booms all day long.
If you think an EAF with water vapor is fun, once when I was testing a medical waste incinerator at John’s Hopkins, someone didnt pay attention to the trash stream and charged a patient’s oxygen bottle.
Oh the humanity.
That sounds like fun. Its fairly common practice here to scare the shit out of anyone new by tossing in a can or two of aerosol spray in the furnace.
since Don = Lachowsky + 4hours, I guess I’ll go buy some salt
I’m assuming that your part of tenessee is as woefully underprepared for winter weather as we are.
Beat the rush. Predictions of an inch or 2 of snow will normally trigger a run on milk, bread, at eggs at the local grocer.
My part of Tennessee is the dont-give-a-f-sit-on-the-porch-and-play-blues part, so you can bet we’re under-prepared for everything other than tossing the next stick in the fire. Wife’s all spandexed up for her workout, so I guess she figures she can make it up the bluff and back before hell freezes over.
When I worked in automotive, the yanks always told this crap about how Southerners can’t drive in snow or ice. I grew up on the KY border, far enough north that we got a lot of weather, the kind of snow that hangs around instead of just flashing off like it does in most of the South . . . but the mayor ain’t bulldozing none of it out of the way. So I’d wager I grew up driving in as much cold stuff as any yank cityboy: school would close because no one can make it in, but, of course, we’d drive to that same school for snow-donuts in the parking lot on the way out to our favorite hunting spots.
In the snow belt up in my neck of the woods, there were times the snow would come up to the car windows. Made getting out of the driveway an interesting challenge.
yikes: you win; two feet is all I’ve ever dealt with
Buffalo gets it worse then us, and I don’t want to speak for New England or the more Northern state (waves at NoDak). Even here in Cleveland there’s a divide between those on the West side (much less snow) and the East side (in the snowbelt). Due to this difference the most dangerous stretch of freeway is the 480 bridge between the two sides. There is almost a daily accident during winter on that stretch of road.
And Syracuse gets it worse than Buffalo. And the angry purple areas on that map where hardly anyone lives – yikes!
@Neph.
It is typically the same here regarding localities. Except the divide is north-south… Everyone living south gets a 4WD if they can, sometimes they’ve gotten 5 feet and we had <5 inches up here.
We get full-on Ice Station Zebra conditions now and then – this was pretty typical when we had the monster winter a couple years back:
https://s.w-x.co/AP218236318123.jpg
I’ve discussed this before. It’s not that Southerners can’t drive in snow or ice, but that they often don’t have snow tires, or even all season tires, when a freak snowstorm hits.
When we move to VA from TX I had all season tires put on, but I didn’t even think to check the windshield washer fluid. Evidently they only sell colored water down in TX.
Thankfully a friction fitting was the part that failed when the fluid froze over.
Yeah. Winterizing your car is a real thing that people shouldn’t slack on if they expect to encounter freezing conditions. In addition to the wrong type of tires, people (everywhere) often vastly overestimate the effectiveness of AWD/FWD in dealing with traction issues (and again, while drive is important, remember that it’s your tires that are making contact with the road), as well as not topping up their tires’ air pressure.
Combine that with your typical normie’s absolutely terrible driving habits and you get Snowmageddon.
So industrial mechanic is like being a Vietnamese hooker?
There are similarities…
The weatherman is predicting over a foot here this afternoon and tonight.
8-12 for us, with the possibility of some ice/mix.
I’m not worried about the show we’re supposed to get. I’m worried bout the mixed precipitation and the subsequent icing with the attic air coming in.
Looking at close to 2 inches when I walked the dog an hour ago, still coming down. And 16 degrees and windy! Fun!
Still nothing where I am, but predictions are saying 6-11 inches. If we do get snow, it’ll be a bitch to shovel, because the snow that’s been around has gone through two days where the temps got just over freezing, and dropped back down.
The amusement from the latest episode of Roadrunner and Coyote continues.
I listen to various international broadcasters, and today, the CBC’s news was the only one to have a soundbite from a Buzzfeed person treating Buzzfeed’s nonsense as more believable than Mueller’s.
. . . CBC’s news was the only one to have a soundbite from a Buzzfeed person treating Buzzfeed’s nonsense as more believable than Mueller’s.
**HEAVY SIGH**
Yeah, that’s our good ol’ Communist Broadcasting Corporation doin’ God’s Work again. At this point, I’d vote for a rock in the next Federal election as long as said rock promised to de-fund the CBC right after winning office.
Given Tulsi Gabbard’s anti-war stances, her wrongthink about teh gheyz won’t be swept under the rug like it was for Barry or Hilldog.
Gabbard is an actual anti war Democrat, the likes of which haven’t been seen since 2008 or so. She has no chance. The pro war state, parties, and media will never allow her to get anywhere.
Correct. The DNC won’t have to give her the Sanders treatment; her and her fathers conservative views on family, no matter how much she apologizes or amends them, will be weaponized against her by her own party. It’s Sad.
Plus Tulsi won’t get the VP nod either since she is from Hawaii. She won’t seal the deal for a large contested state so the nod goes to somebody else. If the election comes down to trying to hold onto HI’s 4 solid blue votes the Dems are screwed.
The Ouroboros’s hunger knows no bounds. What a shame cause at least she wasn’t totally nuts.
I think she was totally nuts, just some of her crazy happened to align with ours.
When people ask me who my favorite artist is, I usually say “R Mutt”. But it’s really probably George Herriman.
I have a hard time between Herriman and Crumb. Neither one signed a toilet, though, at least to the best of my knowledge.
This Crumb?
The very same.
Since it so wintery for the Glibertariat this R Crumb works well too.

The interesting thing to me is that machine intelligence isn’t a matter of “how intelligent” in our usual biological sense. It is, and will always be, an intelligence of a totally different kind than biological.

If you’ve never sat through the pre-movie stuff at the AD, you gotta hear this. Somewhere in the Texas-libertarian-artsy-proprietor intersectionality: genius. Few things make me miss Texas, but this almost does.
Different than the normal one, but fun.
her past comments and actions have been under a microscope, including her work for an anti-gay organization and remarks calling LGBTQ activists “homosexual extremists.”
“In my past, I said and believed things that were wrong, and worse, they were very hurtful to the people in the LGBTQ community and to their loved ones,” Gabbard said.
Was she wearing a dunce cap, with a sign across her chest saying, “THOUGHT CRIMINAL” when she made that statement?
Otherwise, insufficiently debasing.
Not enough purgin’.
Why do advocacy groups bother to try to change people’s minds if, when those minds do change, it is not something to be celebrated but something to revile?
Because it’s a win-win for them.
Power is the only metric.
Also, it depends greatly on whose mind changed. Principals something something.
“According to Kinkade’s company, one in every twenty American homes owns a copy of one of his paintings.”
For those that are missing their Kinkade art I’ve probably got you covered. Next to a long term large print Reader’s Digest subscription its my favorite gift.
Mrs. Spartacus flies into a white-hot rage at the mere mention of Kinkade. As do all of our art faculty. They say he is emblematic of the decay of civilization.
But but but….he is “The Master of Light”.
*hides Kinkade jigsaw puzzles*
I suppose they hate Hopper, too?
And Kouba…
I don’t get all the hate for him, they’re nice pastoral scenes, very relaxing to look at. They’re not high art, but I don’t think they intend to be either.
I would think the same about most art faculty…
Agree. When I want high art, I go to the gallery (a lot). Kinkade gives out warm fuzzies with no work involved.
Because he sucks. He really does. Master of Light my ass — that’s not how light works.
Normal people like it so it can’t possibly be good art!
Now, blank white canvases and lip shaped toilets, those are sure signs of a civilization’s greatness.
I wouldn’t define ‘normalcy’ as appreciation for Kinkade. I mean, the dude has ‘Kink’ right in his name!
Good point. No doubt every sort of deviancy known to man is taking place behind those brightly lit windows.
That is my fervent hope.
Sculptor Frederick Hart was a three dimensional version of Kinkade. Here’s Tom Wolfe’s essay on Hart’s career.
https://www.jeanstephengalleries.com/hart-wolfe.html
From the article.
“Frederick Hart died at the age of 55 on Aug. 13, two days after a team of doctors discovered he had lung cancer, abruptly concluding one of the most bizarre stories in the history of 20th-century art. While still in his 20’s, Hart consciously, pointedly, aimed for the ultimate in the Western tradition of sculpture, achieved it in a single stroke, then became invisible, and remained invisible, as invisible as Ralph Ellison’s invisible man, who was invisible ”simply because people refuse to see me.”
Not even Giotto, the 12-year-old shepherd boy who was out in the meadow with the flock one day circa 1270 using a piece of flint to draw a picture of sheep on the face of a boulder when the vacationing Florentine artist Cimabue happened to stroll by and discover the baby genius — not even Giotto could match Frederick Hart’s storybook rise from obscurity.
Hart was born in Atlanta to a failed actress and a couldn’t-be-bothered newspaper reporter. He was only 3 when his mother died, whereupon he was packed off to an aunt in a part of rural South Carolina where people ate peanuts boiled in salty water. He developed into an incorrigible Conway, S.C., juvenile delinquent, failed the ninth grade on his first try and got thrown out of school on his second. Yet at the age of 16, by then a high-school dropout, he managed, to universal or at least Conway-wide amazement, to gain admission to the University of South Carolina by scoring a composite 35 out of a maximum 36 on an A.C.T. college entrance test, the equivalent of a 1560 on the College Boards.
He lasted six months. He became the lone white student to join 250 black students in a civil rights protest, was arrested, then expelled from the university. Informed that the Ku Klux Klan was looking for him, he fled to Washington. “
Speaking of RBG, my mother (God bless her and all), was talking to me about how great the movie was and what a great person/figure RBG was. She hoped she could stay on the court for another two years. I in turn just chuckled awkwardly and said I was glad she enjoyed the movie. I do not wish ill health/death/anything bad for her really, but please retire. I am still holding out for Amy Coney Barrett no matter how unlikely it may be.
If I had guess, Trump is reelected and repubs hold the Senate next year. I’d also bet against RBG living to see it.
I’m thinking along those lines too, but we’ll see, man.
I assume it didn’t discuss how RBG screwed Susette Kelo.

Amazon’s sensor-filled belt solution comes just one month after a robot-involved accident in one of the company’s warehouses resulted in the hospitalization of 24 workers. Reports at the time indicated that one of Amazon’s robots managed to puncture a can of bear repellant and release the spray inside the warehouse. OT: doggy update. She’s doing well. I can take her to work most days, and she treats my desk like her “crate” and goes under, rests on a blanket, and has some garbage to pester sometimes. We take walks downtown, too, which is a good break for me to get away from the desk. She growls at clients who try to come in without knocking . . . . Her new thing when walking with me downtown is to try to get pedestrians to make eye contact, which when they do, she growls or tries to snap at them. It’s like she’s picking a fight. She’s OK with hobos, just snaps at the normals (mostly). She’s slowly getting in some training, and now “sits” for the elevator, her jacket, and (more rarely) at crosswalks. I’m still her favorite person, but she’s stopped growling at Lord H, and the heir (except in the morning).
Glad your dog is doing well. She reminds me of my family’s old dog. She was tiny as all heck, but she loved trying to pick fights and act tough.
Less poopy-flooring is always a good sign. Persist, she’ll come around
If she is initiating contact and then follows it up with a growl or snap, you need to make certain that people do not respond to her in any way that may be perceived as positive otherwise it will become learned and permanent behavior.
Dogs will treat most attention as positive feedback so providing attention to a growling dog is a big no-no. Additionally, do not pick her up if she’s growling at someone, it will reinforce the behavior.
perceived as positive otherwise it will become learned and permanent behavior
The big two sins that people-who-arent-dog-people-but-think-they-are make:
1/ using the dog’s name during correction (eg: Suzy! stop that!)
2/ picking up the dog and petting it while it misbehaves
Gotta differentiate between command and correction.
I’d add using corrections over and over and over. One time and a leash correction.
If he lasts the next two more years in office, I’m not even sure that America will be around at all.
Yup. Party of fact based argument.

After noting Mueller’s statement that the Buzzfeed report is wrong…
Ask yourself this: Why, if there was nothing worrisome or untoward about Trump’s dealings with Russia, would he instruct Cohen to lie about the depth and breadth of the conversations between the Trumps and the Russians regarding a potential construction project in Moscow? You don’t have to lie or cover up things that are no big deal, right?
And we know from Cohen that he not only lied to the special counsel’s office about Trump Tower Moscow but did so because he believed the truthful details of how long the conversations with Russians over the project went on (until June 2016, according to Cohen) and the involvement of the Trump family (Cohen said he repeatedly briefed them on developments) might jeopardize the billionaire businessman’s chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination.
They’ve got him, this time.
Tell Hillary to put her shoes on. She’s going to the White House.
Well, I mean, she DESERVES it, after all.
It was supposed to be her turn!
If your argument includes the words “according to Cohen”,you might want to reconsider.
He makes Saul Goodman look like a pillar of ethical behavior.
The Resisters are hanging their hat on saying Mueller did not say the Buzzfeed report was false, only inaccurate — which of course means that most of it is true.
Well, the resisters are stupid and/or insane. All this nonsense is just a conspiracy theory standing in the face of contrary evidence at this point.
How about ‘Cohen is a sleezy lying sleezeball and it’s exactly what you can expect from him?’
So, Mueller is a saint who is going to save us all and could never, ever, be wrong about anything, unless he says something we don’t like? Then there must be a saintly exception to the rule somewhere if only we can find it.

Robert E. Lee was not a loser, sir! I demand satisfaction!
Well except for that one time. At appamatox…
He didn’t exactly go dancing around the ring after Gettysburg or Antietam either.
So many duels, so little time. Can I pencil you two in for next Friday?
Really, though, if we want examples of Lee’s weak showings, we can do much better than Sharpsburg, unless a superior Union force’s sustaining 12,000 casualties is a solid example a good day. That was really the equivalent of Tom Brady’s having thrown a deep interception on third and long from mid-field: certainly happened a time or two over the years, but that one had little consequence.
Except that Antietam pretty much sealed the deal for the south. Had the North lost, Lincoln most likely would not have gone through with emancipation, and the British would have intervened.
There are two ways of looking at the war.
(1) Tech, money, and population differences mean that the CSA never had a chance, so the deal was sealed before even Sumter.
(2) Tactics and were meaningful regardless of (1), so they should be evaluated on their merits; from such a view we say that the deal was not sealed because the CSA had resources to attack PA later. The people who talk in terms of (2) point to Gettysburg as sealing the deal . . . a year later.
So, respectfully, in neither view can it be said that Sharpsburg was decisive.
The points about the Proclamation and the British are excellent but nevertheless speculative; Sharpsburg and Gettysburg really happened, so we should deal with them. If people were rational and action could be predicted by reason, half of history would have never have happened.
FWIW, I’m a (1) guy: the war was fought to determine on what terms the South would lose, not whether it would lose.
FWIW, I’m a (1) guy: the war was fought to determine on what terms the South would lose, not whether it would lose.
I’m mostly on this one, but I don’t think the South had to win the war to cease hostilities. If they were able to capture Washington early on in the war (I don’t know that they had the ability to, tactics aside), they probably could’ve forced some sort of Korea-style detente.
As long as the war was contained primarily to the South, it could be viewed by the union civilians as quelling an insurrection. If the CSA were able to make stronger inroads into the heart of the North, I think the northern citizenry would’ve put pressure on Lincoln to come to a quick compromise.
mostly of the same opinion on this one*
*goes to get another coffee*
And Gettysburg, and Antietiem…
Lee was an able tactical level General who got lucky with his early opponents. He had a fair grasp of operational level warfare and was less than average at the strategic level. When Grant came East Lee’s goose was cooked. Longstreet was a long time friend of Grant and recognized the risk right away.
Grant saw the CSA’s weakness, let Lincoln do the politics, and assembled the most realistic senior leaders around him. Grant struck everywhere thus negating the advantage of interior lines. He gave free rein to Sherman and Sheridan to destroy the agricultural and industrial infrastructure of the South. He provided sufficient troops to support the Navy in closing the last ports and eliminating any meaningful overseas imports. After the 2d day of the Wilderness when Grant turned the Army of the Potomac on the way to Spottsylvania instead back to the fords the CSA lasted less than a year.
Lee had one definite win against Grant at Cold Harbor. Remember Grant’s response? He threw out a diversion that Lee had to respond to and then stole a march against Lee by crossing the James River uncontested putting the Union Army en masse on the same side as Richmond. Now Lee could only hope to play for a stalemate instead of a checkmate. The combined efforts across VA, GA, NC, and the Shenandoah ensure Lincoln’s victory and removed the chance for stalemate.
Grant’s reputation as a “butcher” comes from southern authors writing much of the early history of the CW combined with Lee being the “Marble Man”. A more fair analysis remembers Grant’s constant search for innovation; that as a percentage of forces committed a lower loss rate than any major CW commander (including Lee); and that Lee and Eisenhower are the only two US commanders to accept the surrender of two opponents armies (Vicksburg and Appomattox/ North Africa and VE Day).
Grant’s Vicksburg Campaign is still studied in US senior military education today, alone among the CW campaigns.
Amusing point: Back in the late Cold War the Army was trying to computer model future combat. As a validation mechanism they entered various CW battles and would see how the computer modelled history. For Antietam they had to reprogram the skill level of the Union leadership to approximate the actual result. With any normal competence of a Union commander the Army of Northern Virginia was crushed and destroyed.

To be a kid again…
Snow like that can paralyze places like Arkansas !
Last place I worked at had an office in Cleveland, Georgia. They closed due to snow one time, and sent a picture of their plight. It was a slight flurry, with snow just starting to stick to the road. Those of us in Cleveland, Ohio sent back a picture of the snow mountains in our parking lot.
Yeah, I still have substantial piles on either side of my drive from last weekend, so Im really looking forward to having to throw it higher tomorrow
A few years back my sister (still in Massachusetts at the time) go something like 35 inches of snow from a blizzard, so she texted some photos to our other sister who lives just outside Dallas. The Dallas sister responded with a screenshot of her phone showing 75 degrees.
More snowpocalypse https://imgur.com/gallery/qLi6iNU
That’s the view out my front door. Damn, I wish I was home today.
Letting your kid play in deadly weather. What kind of monster are you?
Shit. Sunny, cold and snow-free here.
Some winter hellscape this turned out to be.
Might rain later here. 50 tomorrow. So much for that six inches they kept warning us about.
We have like 2inches of snow and it’s all iced over. Except for my driveway being a mass of ice ripples to bump over I like it better than 4 feet of snow on the ground where the only places you can go are narrow shoveled paths.
You can still see patches of dirt through the snow.
Some snowpocalypse!
We’ve had that much here in L.A.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro ran for office vowing to reduce the country’s epidemic of violent crime. But his decree this week making it easier to buy firearms could lead to the violent deaths of hundreds or thousands more Brazilians.
———–
Brazil currently has strict gun control laws. You have to be over 25 years of age, have no criminal record, demonstrate an “effective need” for a firearm, pass tests on psychological aptitude and gun handling, and pay a hefty fee for a license that must be renewed every five years. Partly as a result of this thicket of controls, Brazil has among Latin America’s lowest rates of civilian firearm possession (registered and unregistered), according to the 2017 Small Arms Survey, ranking well below the world’s top 25.
Never relax your grip. Never take your boot off the neck of the common man.
Maintain the pretense that more magic spells will fix everything.
Low on the books firearm ownership rates and a sky high homicide rate. Kind of throws a wrench in the gears of the gun control argument.
“You have to be over 25 years of age, have no criminal record, demonstrate an “effective need” for a firearm, pass tests on psychological aptitude and gun handling, and pay a hefty fee for a license that must be renewed every five years”
Mayor everytown creams his shorts.
“Brazil has among Latin America’s lowest rates of civilian firearm possession”
Yet they have an enormously high murder rate. What argument are they trying to make here exactly? This just sounds like an own goal.
See, you aren’t starting with the right think ingrained in you where gun ownership obviously leads to more violence. It’s settled common sense science.
Nonono…the correct conclusion is “holy shit, imagine how much higher it would be if more people owned guns!”
Correlation coefficients are always positive, everybody knows that.
It’s an intellectual mistake to engage on this point; to do so is to imply that my rights have anything to do with someone’s statistics.
They Do Not.
Don gets it.
Aaaaaand there it is. I have been waiting for the gun grabbers to shit their pants over this. They know damned well more guns means violence will go down.
“Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro ran for office vowing to reduce the country’s epidemic of violent crime. But his decree this week making it easier to buy firearms could lead to the violent deaths of hundreds or thousands more Brazilians.”
They’re spinning this shit like there is no tomorrow. Why wait for some facts when you can just make up your own facts right now? I just want one answer. Brazil has had some of the strictest gun control on the planet for a long time now, while the US have had some of the least strict gun control. During that time, which country had the highest rate of gun control? So how do we get the assumption that Brazil going more towards US policy on guns is going to have the opposite results of what we should expect?
“which country had the highest rate of gun control?” gun violence
I think they’re scared that it’s going to work.

Refreshingly low tatt content, but some of them are scary and look like they could kill you.
“My life has been a nightmare,” Van Dyke’s wife, Tiffany, said in a choked voice, echoing similar testimony from the former officer’s father, sister and 17-year-old daughter. “Life is torture. My heart is broken.”
Toward the end of her half-hour on the witness stand, she was asked what she feared most about a long prison sentence for her husband.
She began to sob, her anguished cries echoing in Gaughan’s courtroom.
“My biggest fear is that somebody would kill my husband for something he did as a police officer, something he was trained to do,” she cried. “There was no malice, no hatred on that night. He was simply doing his job.”
You’re husband is an asshole. He’s a violent nut who betrayed the public trust. Is this ‘part of the job’?
“…At times taking lengthy pauses to wipe away tears, Nance said Van Dyke pulled him violently out of the car by the arm, then threw him facedown onto the floor of the back seat. He said he felt pain in his arms and tried to tell Van Dyke he couldn’t move, but the officer told him to “shut up and lay down.”
The injuries he suffered required two surgeries for both his shoulders and rotator cuffs, he said, and he still has not regained the full use of his arms.”
I have no sympathy. He’s lucky he got off with seven. The only good news is he’s not a cop anymore.
“for something he did as a police officer, something he was trained to do”
I see we have identified part of the problem
Which is even worse.

https://worldnewsdailyreport.com/man-accused-of-raping-a-cow-claims-it-is-the-reincarnation-of-his-dead-wife/
Rajiv Chowdhury, 34, was intercepted this week by Atascosa County police after ranch owner Ted Bukowski called police after he found the half-naked man sexually assaulting one of his cows.
Bukowski first believed his cattle were being harassed by coyotes until he discovered it was, in fact, a man that was the source of all the disturbance.
“He asked me not to shoot. He told me he wouldn’t do it again if I didn’t call the police” Bukowski, 67, told reporters.
And now? Now he’s going to rape every chicken, goat, cow, and child on your farm. God help you.
Fear the weirdo with nothing more to lose!

SAUDI MAN SURVIVED 13 DAYS STRANDED IN DESERT BY EATING TWO OF HIS FOUR WIVES
RE: Buzzfeed rake stepping.
This is just more confirmation of what I’ve been saying for a while; the Resisters are playing angry. Trump got in their heads and they’re so blinded by rage they can’t control themselves. Anyone who has played sports knows that once you start playing angry, you’re going to suck and once your opponent gets in your head, you’re done.
“In 2016, an investigation by the N.C. Board of Elections found that out of 4.8 million people who cast ballots, 508 were ineligible to vote. Most of them were felons on active sentences. One of those, the report said, would have been caught by a Voter ID law.”
It didn’t say who George voted for three times or did she just vote randomly? Also, she’s here 20 years and doesn’t know the simple notion of ‘one person, one vote?’
She voted 3 different times according to the article. She didn’t cast 3 votes in one election.
No wait, I think the Muppet is on to something, you get one vote, ever, period.
Love it. You get one vote per lifetime. Make it count!

“And while in the midst of a migraine I had to argue with a doctor about the fact [that] I really could not have a dextrose IV,” she said. In the moment, she realized how absurd it was for her to be telling a world-class specialist to change her treatment.”

As if other regions to grow locally.
Re LHOP. Yeh, well….that was my upbringing. My mother would prepare and make stuff on the week-end. I love how they act as though what they do is all novel when it’s just meh and been done.

Shoulda been in quotations. Sorry.
i bet this person has never set foot in a grocery store outside of the PNW. Outside of high cost cities, I find the food costs to be higher than many other places in the country. It carries over to overpriced restaurants (even before the idiotic foo foo trends) and don’t get me started on the land use misplanning and zoning that keep new grocery stores from opening near where people live (or would want to live).
Concerning the corn allergy, I actually know someone with that condition. It pretty much sucks to be them.
It does. My wife is one of them. I mock but it can be problematic. Though it’s not as bad as the person in the article.
My wife has some pretty serious food allergies. She would bitch slap the person in the article extremely hard for being such a whiner.
That’s interesting. Because my wife too doesn’t whine at all about it. It bothers her and it’s hard on her but she doesn’t bitch and moan. And she sure as hell doesn’t go around challenging people or trying to make people bend for her. The opposite really.
When we go to certain restaurants she might discreetly ask about ingredients or preparation, but she’s never the “LOOK AT ME!!!” person who trumpets their allergies for everyone within earshot.
Always be discreeting!
We’re lucky our friends and family are very understanding and even thoughtful and helpful.
There certainly is such a thing as corn allergy. All that shit about corn-derived dextrose or ethylene or anything else with no proteins in it is sheer lunacy.
RE: Drug (((cops))).
Israeli police sound downright pleasant compared to US cops. I can’t imagine the situation playing out that way Stateside (unless you’re in a non-prohibition state of course).
Yeah, I found that remarkable too. Like from another planet.
I don’t think the police in any country I’ve observed have actually been on the same level as American cops. Here, their authority is supreme. There is no questioning, reasoning, explaining, or any of that faggot shit. Cops in third world hell holes in Africa are more restrained. They know the limits of their power. You’d have to go to a place like North Korea to find worse organized thuggery from the government than here.
Damn. Love the Old Guy Music today. Despite my love of jangly pop/punk, I do dig me some good Americana.

“I imagine doesn’t feel as good”
Assertion without evidence. Properly lubed it’s lovely. And as far as the poop argument, it’s not a spontaneous thing, it must be prepared beforehand.

The broadcaster spoke with Australian pornographer Garion Hall, who said that in America, porn falls under the country’s freedom of speech rules, so they can get away with “producing some pretty extreme stuff”.
Damn Indiana and their lax gun laws causing murders in Chicago!
My theory as to why porn is supposedly getting more violent is that a lot of guys who won’t use Gillette products anymore are using it as an outlet for the repression brought on by the growing cultural dominance of feminism.
That or incels.
“porn is supposedly getting more violent”
I keep hearing this but is it true? Where’s the evidence? How do you even measure something like this?
Also, let’s completely ignore the inverse correlation between porn availability and sexual assault statistics. I’d much rather the freaks and deviants get off on watching people act out their twisted fantasies than going out and performing them on unwilling victims.
They keep claiming it is, probably to justify million dollar a year research grants to sit around watching porn and rating its violence level.
I’ve yet to see any evidence to support those claims though. If anything, porn is getting more amateur since anyone can (and many do) upload homemade videos to the many porn tubes, and I’m pretty sure most average couples aren’t having a lot of violent sex they post for the world to see.
But that’s just me making assumptions.
Squirrels ate my comment 🙁
They probably just claim that to justify research grants that pay them to watch porn.
I’d guess that with the rise of amateur porn, which seems less likely to be violent, this probably isn’t true. But that’s just me making more assumptions. Maybe we should apply for a million dollar research grant to really study the issue.

“American University in Washington, D.C. is hosting an event on Feb. 1 on “antiracist” grading with a professor who serves as director of a writing center which argues that American grammar is a “racist,” “unjust language structure.”
The seminar, titled, “Grading Ain’t Just Grading: Rethinking Writing Assessment Ecologies Towards Antiracist Ends,” will be led by University of Washington-Tacoma professor Asao Inoue, who previously published an essay titled, “A Grade-less Writing Course that Focuses on Labor and Assessing,” in which he argues in favor of “dispens[ing] almost completely with judgments of quality when producing course grades.”
“I argue that a productive way to design and teach a first-year writing course is to conceive of it as labor – and calculate course grades by labor completed – and dispense almost completely with judgments of quality when producing course grades,” Inoue writes in an essay summary on Academia.edu.”

Absolutely not. What could possibly be controversial about supporting murdering people for immutable characteristics?
Philosophy ain’t what it used to be.

Imma go on a limb with a guess here. Frick is a psychologist. And in light of the APA’s revision of their practices in their guidelines to reflect a more ‘woke’ posture, she’s a Democrat with critical theory sympathies.

My work is valuable because I put time and effort into it.
My work is valuable even though I’m not very good at it.
Fundamentally, this is about assigning blame for disparate outcomes to external forces and not to the culture of those who are failing in society.
Or even to the specific actions of that individual who is failing.
It also presumes that inequality isn’t a fundamental and unavoidable consequence of freedom of choice.
Which is one of the reasons the government is so vehemently against freedom of choice in the name of equality and safety.

Dress in a way that flatters you and you’ll get positive attention, not ridicule; unless of course the ridicule is what you want just so you can go crying to a tabloid about toxic masculinity and oppressive beauty standards.

How about health? The negatives from obesity far outweigh (!) the negatives from being not-ogled on the beach.

“Women’s March Co-President Refuses To Say Israel Has A Right To Exist
Tamika Mallory, co-president and founder of the Women’s March, refused to say that Israel has a right to exist in an interview with Margaret Hoover on PBS’s “Firing Line.” Hoover asked Mallory multiple times to explain why she believed the Palestinians were native to the land, but would not say the same for Jewish people.
“I’m not Jewish, so for me to speak to that is not fair…because I’m speaking of the people who we know are being brutally oppressed at this moment,” Mallory said. “Everyone has a right to exist…I just don’t feel that everyone has a right to exist at the disposal of another group.”
http://thefederalist.com/2019/01/18/womens-march-co-president-refuses-say-israel-right-exist/
“A Reminder From Tamika Mallory: When You March In The Women’s March You March Behind Anti-Semites
It’s clear that Tamika Mallory, co-president and founder of the Women’s March, is in way over her head in even a semi-serious discussion about the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Setting aside her anti-Semitism, this part of the interview is embarrassing on an intellectual level. Repeating the vacuous phrase “everyone has a right to exist” to distract from a simple question isn’t something a smart person does. So perhaps she’s just not educated enough to make her points cogently. Or perhaps she believes the things she does because she’s not educated on the issue. It’s difficult to tell. But the idea that she––and other similarly absurd figures like Linda Sarsour––have positioned themselves at the head of the activist wing of the American left is a sad statement about the movement.
Now, those in the media who cover for Mallory and others who share her views often characterize this kind of rhetoric as being merely “critical of Israel.” (Or worse, they excuse and rationalize anti-Semitism.) You will notice, though, that Mallory can’t even concede that Jews are “native” to Israel (a nation she doesn’t believe should exist in the first place) because she’s not Jewish and can’t speak to how they “feel”––as if how you feel changes history. You will also notice, however, as interviewer Margaret Hoover did, that Mallory has no compunction asserting that Palestinians are native to the land, even though, as far as we can tell, she’s not Arab.
Why are Arabs “native” to the land? “[B]ecause,” Mallory explains, “they have been there a very long time.” Her inability to acknowledge a rather well-documented truth about the Jewish presence on that land––somewhere around 1800+ years before Arabs ever showed up––is telling enough. But when asked by Hoover if Jews are also native, she says she “understands” that there is an “ideology” around why “Jewish people feel” like this should be their land.”

The buzzfeed hullabaloo got me thinking. Trump should get all of his senior leadership together and start leaking like hell. All bullshit. All the most ridiculous Russia conspiracy stuff. Putin has the US nuclear codes from Trump. Trump was a secret KGB agent in the 70s. Trump gave Putin a night with Melania in exchange for Putin giving Trump the election.
Make up whatever evidence is necessary and feed it to the media surreptitiously. Every 2 weeks is an even more insane tabloidesque controversy that quickly and permanently erodes what is left of the media’s legitimacy and gets the left quacking in ways that only conspiracy theorists can comprehend.
^^Brilliant idea. He knows they can’t possibly resist a juicy Trump/Russia story; use their own fanatical stupidity against them.
The producers of ‘The Americans’ weren’t woke enough. I expected the show to end with Trump being groomed.
Great idea but the media is full on against him. They won’t “leak” anything that paints him in a good light.
That’s the thing. It can all be the most horrible stuff about trump, but each story needs to stretch credulity just a little bit more. It can all be framed as there being a secret #resist cabal in the admin that is aghast at the massive corruption/treason.
Start off with the trump Moscow tower being a personal favor to Putin for reasons unknown. Then expose that trump and Putin have known one another since the 70s. Then find some ancient Soviet dossier on trump that paints him in a positive light. Then some more KGB documents that refer to a certain project that is mentioned in trump’s dossier. Then another doc where one of the intelligence assets mentioned in the KGB docs seems vaguely to be trump, and plans out a public relations campaign that makes the asset a well known name in American media.
Just keep peeling away the layers of the onion until you have the left frothing about trump being a KGB plant from the 70s.
I’m amazed at how sober you assume I am.

The Democrats and the left are completely insane and it’s still moving leftward. And what the legislature isn’t pushing, local city councils and county commissions are. Fuckers just need to do the world a favor and kill themselves. Unfortunately just like every other psychopathic political movement they want to drag as many others into the grave with them.
Why stop there? Seems like just visiting the home isn’t enough. Anyone can be a parent, even unfit people. Perhaps the benevolent state should look after and raise children for their own safety.
Never gonna fly.

KGB plant from the 70slizard alien from another galaxy. It did strike me that you may be able to convince some that trump’s father was designed in a Nazi genetics lab as a human-alien hybrid, and that trump was like the guy in avatar in that he shot down the alien invasion force at Roswell because he fell in love with humans.
Are we a group of people interested in advancing the cause of liberty or a collection of freaks that coagulated in a corner of the cesspool that is the internet?

“The term ‘Imperial’ is kept though it is now an anachronism. The hereditary Emperor is nearly dead and has been for many centuries. In the last moments of his dying coma he was locked in a stasis field which keeps him in a state of perpetual unchangingness…”
aka, “the Schiavo maneuver”

IIRC there was a case where a SCJ had a stoke and couldn’t perform his judgly duties but wouldn’t resign either. I forget if he died or they eventually talked him into retiring but there was nothing they could do as long as he was breathing.
William Douglas. The other justices wanted him to retire and, when he refused, they voted to postpone a number of cases.
Here’s tomorrow’s “Doonesbury” with “Roland B. Hedley” making light of Hillary’s e-mails: “Ivanka/Clinton comparisons are a disgrace. Crooked stored email on secret basement server, while First D used public server anyone could hack.”

The Portland stereotype of Couvies is dirty poor people from the wrong side of the river who dodge their state sales tax by clogging up the local Fred Meyers. At least that’s what it used to be a decade or so ago.
