The band that played our wedding reception 23 years ago for my wife and me (still married) was the Paisley Brain Cells, a Dead cover band.
Glad to know others here also like the hippie / jam band type music. One of my friends puts on some really good Dead and Allman Brothers shows occasionally, and another has a Dead cover acoustic band. La Crosse, WI has an amazing local music scene with several good live venues within walking distance. It’s really something special with loads of very talented musicians of multiple genres.
The only things I can come up with are Brad Paisley and Paisley Park, Prince’s studio / home. Can’t think of anything with Pud in the name.
When it comes to live music, I’ve been totally geeked out on Warren Haynes for close to 30 years. Between Gov’t Mule, Allman Brothers, The Dead, solo projects, solo acoustic, and his Xmas Jam I’ve seen him close to 100 times. Like the Dead, every show is different and there are always surprises.
Not sure if this would be something you like, but Warren has done some Jerry Garcia tribute shows with different symphonies in each city he toured. At the time, he was the first and maybe only person to play Jerry’s old guitar Wolf. A music friend recorded this.

Nice! As I was seeing the Grateful Dead in my “youth”, I always figured I’d grow up and eventually resent the time I spent following ’em. Hasn’t happened yet. The opening to Shakedown on that video gave me permagrin.
Warren is definitely worthwhile, but damn I miss Jerry.
I regret never seeing the Grateful Dead with Jerry, and I had many opportunities. I grew up by Alpine Valley, so I would go to party when the Dead were there, but never had a ticket. It wasn’t until my late 20’s that I really started to appreciate their music. I’ve seen many iterations of the band, but it’s not the same. I’ve never heard a deadhead say they regret their time following them. Here’s another video I’ve enjoyed watching a few times.

Arctic blast coming here for the next few days with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Plus it’s rained like 4 inches since yesterday.
We have a new high speed train down here called Brightline. It goes from Miami to West Palm, and will eventually head up to Orlando. Rick Scott turned down federal money for a high speed train and it got built with private money. That somehow pissed a lot of people off.
Anyways, the train’s quick. It usually takes about 30 seconds from the barriers going down on the road, the train passing, and the barriers going up. Yet someone else got killed the other day trying to beat the train. 12 since it started running in early 2017.
What I’m saying is people are dumb.
They are trying to extend that from Orlando into Tampa as well. If they did and it was convenient to the theme parks, I might actually consider getting the annual pass to Universal again – it’s actually fun going there if you go on a weekday in January. I just hate making the I-4 drive as it always takes 3x longer than it should…

Because if he persisted, he would have totally lost the PR campaign ( hard to blame him when 90% of the media works for the DNC) and eventually had his veto overturned, lost the nomination or re-election, and put the SCOTUS back in proggie hands. Face a largely wall-less border and start a scoreboard (like Dems did for lives lost in Iraq) for every crime an illegal commits from now until election day. Willie Horton them to death. And if the voters don’t care, if they don’t pressure their Dem congresscritters, then its all over for conservatives and libertarians anyway.
At the end of the day the shutdown theater is completely trivial. So is immigration as a larger issue.
The courts are where the action is, and that is where the Dems are losing big-time.

I’m probably risking my libertarian bona fides here, but I don’t particularly care about the wall issue one way or the other. I live nowhere near the border and have no insight on any security concerns, and in my view $5B – or even $25B – is a meaningless blip in the federal budget death spiral.
That said, I think he fucked up the entire pitch from the very beginning by placing it front and center in his campaign. He painted himself into a corner.
If there’s a talking head on the right I couldn’t care less about, it’s Ann Coulter. Christie! Well, maybe not. Romney! Err, no. Trump! He lied and caved. She makes redheads look stable.
Trump does care about securing the border but he also understands it was a major campaign promise. And if there’s one thing he’s been pretty successful at, it’s fulfilling his promises.
He’s also the POTUS. If there were truly signs that the partial shutdown was hurting national security and the economy, he really had no choice but to retreat. I am seriously hoping he doesn’t have to declare a national emergency to get his money. Opening that Pandora’s box would have serious consequences for decades.
Personally he should have continually thrown it back to Congress (and might do so with this 3-week reprieve) that if they want the FedGov funded, it’s their job.
Meaning he has been pretty good at highlighting, even in the face of a hostile media, that much of these problems are Congress’ not the Executive.

If it’s the latter, you might want to try out Vivaldi or Opera as alternatives to Chrome. They both use the Blink rendering engine, so the only thing you’d lose is being able to sync to a Google account (if you’re into that sort of depravity).
I’m open to a chrome alternatively, just haven’t searched due to laziness.
I suppose I’m looking to invert colors on websites. Best way I can explain it is just someone similar to nightmode/darktheme on twitter or youtube for example.
I will give one or both of those alternatives a try.

He/she/ze is right for the wrong reason. There is always some portion of first generation immigrants that don’t learn English. The older you are the less likely. But notice in her own comments how the next generation does learn it. It’s the dominant language and opens many opportunities. So yeah, assimilation doesn’t happen all at once. It happens over time.

On a side note, the Dark Mode plugin I mentioned above has the probably unintentional side-effect of also reversing the colors of any Twitter pics on a page. Every person on that page looks like a ghoul.
More than 500 trees fell this weekend in Bucharest due to the freezing rain so now the local soundtrack is chainsaw sounds. Unusual for a big city. Also ice falling off trees and wires as it gets warm, should have a real thaw this week. Good morning glibs.
Morning, Pie. I saw something over the weekend about Vlad the Impaler’s castle which mentioned that there were many, many better castles to visit in Romania. I was hoping you could recommend a few.
Vlad himself had more than one. The castle on the cliff isn’t the same one where he impaled people. The cliff-side residence was later if I’m correct.
many, many better castles – meh depends on what you want to see in a castle. There are not that many in Romania copared to some other European countries. Does castle also include a general fortified city or an actual castle?
Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle is probably the best
Peleș Castle maybe, but it is more modern.

We are forecast for 14 degrees this week so quite warm. Europe as a whole will be cold even parts of Romania but looking at forecast maps, the cold stops at the Carpathians so my bit of Romania will be 6 7 degrees above average for a few says.
My son’s school is closed – all for a winter storm that is supposed to hit today. As usual I expect the dire predictions to not come true as the TV stations around here hype everything as Doomagedon!
