Everton and Spurs were bounced from the FA Cup. The USMNT beat Panama in a match that was anything but a “friendly”. All of the officials involved in the horrible missed PI call that effectively put the Rams in the Super Bowl are from the Los Angeles area. Djoker and Osaka reigned down under. The Nashville Predators will travel to Dallas’s Cotton Bowl for next year’s “Winter Classic” outdoors game. And everybody’s favorite hockey player (ha!) Sid the Kid took home MVP honors in the NHL All-Star Game.
If you’re looking for birthdays, these are some of the people born on this day: Saint Thomas Aquinas, typeface inventor (which was basically like a coder back in the day) John Baskerville, expressionist painter Jackson Pollock, man who knew nothing John Banner, insufferable actor Alan Alda, Mexican businessman Carlos Slim, Frog-with-an-Oedipus-complex Nicolas Sarkozy, German rocker Peter Schilling, golf great Nick Price, musician DJ Muggs, hobbit actor Elijah Woodand Backstreet Boy Nick Carter.
Some events that happened on this day include: a 9-year old Edward VI succeeded Henry VIII and did a much better job from day 1, pirate Henry Morgan took Panama City from the Spanish, “Pride and Prejudice” was first published, Sir Stamford Raffles landed in Singapore, work started on the Eiffel Tower, Preston Tucker was found not guilty, Elvis made his national television debut, Roy Campanella was in a car accident that paralyzed him, The Who made their first television appearance as well, OJ Simpson went first in the 1969 NFL Draft, and most infamously today is the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded and killed all 7 crew members.
OK, now on with…the links!
Kamala Harris kicked off her presidential campaign. I wonder how many people she threw in jail because their kid missed three days of school were there. Heh, its California, so there were probably a few cheering her on.
This is a really sad story all the way around. We need to wean our kids from this technology addiction. Seriously, what the fuck?
Just so I’m clear here, will the left tell us if we don’t attack Venezuela that we’re Putin’s puppet? Or if we do attack, is the attack a deflection from the Mueller witch hunt inquiry by the Trump administration? Heads we win, tails you lose, Mr President! But seriously, I’m going to be quite unhappy if we’re sending anything more than words of support to the people trying to get that asshole out of office down there.
Tom Brokaw says something logical. Now he regrets it after a blizzard of snowflakes attack him. Jesus, people, this is pretty simple (opinion coming): those who assimilate to their adopted culture are going to be better-received and have a greater chance at success.
Some crazy coonass killed his parents and then three other people. He was caught at his grandmother’s house in Virginia. Oh yeah, and morons on Twitter said he was a Trump supporter and that I have blood on my hands because of the NRA.
“Forced”. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. But I expect the taxpayers to have money taken away and given to her.
This seems to be hitting a lot of Page 2s, but the director of “Bohemian Rhapsody” has been accused by even more people of sexual assault of minors. Or as we like to call it in the real world, “child rape”. (I added that last bit because the original story on Saturday from NBC said he was accused of “sex with minors”.
Anyhoo, two artists I like with birthdays today from different ends of the spectrum. So you get an eclectic mix of two songs. Here is the first one. And here is the second.
Have a great day and a great start to your week, friends.
Just so I’m clear here, will the left tell us if we don’t attack Venezuela that we’re Putin’s puppet? – either way leave them collapse in peace
Should be soon.
We are Putin’s puppet if we attack, and we are Putin’s puppet if we don’t. Because Trump…

>>the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded
I will always remember that day because I was at my grandma’s funeral when I first heard the news. My uncle, who is a physicist who has since done some work for NASA, told me the news. After the burial we went back to my grandma’s house and watched the shuttle blow up repeatedly, as that bit of footage got used over ‘n’ over again. A surreal day.
I was in High School Auto Shop Class. The teacher was a young man in his twenties, he was far more shook than we were. If I remember correctly, I think school was cancelled for the rest of the day.
I was in World History class watching it live on TV while they played audio of it over the PA system for the whole school. After the explosion and the tv announcers looking and sounding confused, they turned the PA off and we watched as our teacher cried. That’s when we realized shit was fucked.
We were watching it in the classroom as well. The teachers caught on that it was bad and turned the TV off pretty quickly if my memory serves me correctly.
I was in Spanish class with a teacher who never let students out of class. Even for pep rallies.
She sent us across the hall to a room with a tv.
My physics teacher was torn up. He had applied for the teacher spot.
Did he go off on a tangent?
No, he wasn’t sined up for the job.
I predict this thread will be hyperbolic.
the pun threads always are, once posters find their logarithm.
I was just leaving a college class, and walking toward a commuter rail station. The Chicago Sun-Times actually printed an Extra and had people on the streets downtown handing out copies. I thought all that Extra! Extra! Read All Abut It! stuff was a 1930’s trope exaggerated in the movies that never happened after 1950, but there I was witnessing it in real life in the 1980’s.
Now I’m curious when the last “Extra!” edition was published. The internet obviously killed it, but I’m a bit surprised it survived into the 80s, what with television being a thing.
The last one I remember was the Reagan assassination attempt in 1981.
I was home sick watching the launch.
It was a “What the fuck just happened?” moment.
Regarding the Challenger accident: I was out of school that day. I went outside to watch the launch (Orlando area). There were odd plumes of smoke, and I remember thinking “that’s not right”. I went inside to watch the TV coverage, and yeah, it wasn’t right.
I was home sick, on the sofa watching TV. There was a commercial going for some kind of brown-and-serve sausage and the network cut into it for transition to news coverage.
Like you and Scruffy, I was home sick, too. But I was faking it. Six kids means you have to fake sick to get the TV to yourself once in a while.
Saw it live too. Still a ‘wow’ moment.
I was at work when someone dropped in to tell me. For some reason it shook me up, I guess I was young(er), and naïve,
I was in high school. If I recall correctly, I made some smartass remark. The magnitude of the event did not immediately sink in.
A few days after the explosion, I’m in Am. Hist. class and there’s a loud boom, a garbage truck or something. The Danish exchange student asks If we blew up another shuttle. It did not go over very well.
It was a pretty big deal at my school, One of our teachers was Christa McAuliffe’s sister (don’t remember if it was sister in law or blood relative) and another, my French teacher for 3 of the 4 years, was the brother of the O-Ring failurehe whistle blower over the O-Ring failure
OK, I have no idea why it inserted the link there
I was at my desk (working as a postdoc at Florida State University) when someone popped their head in my office and told me about it. People their being from Florida, they felt a strong connection and were quite shaken up by it.
I was in grad school in Gainesville, sitting in my office, when someone came by and said “the Shuttle blew up!” I thought they were joking for several minutes. Then I went home and turned on the TV.
I grew up near Kennedy Space Center (you could see the VAB from my backyard), and most of my friends’ parents worked for NASA or one of the contractors. It was a very bad day for all of them.
I was in a lab at Lockheed where the PA system usually ran random noise so people outside that area who weren’t cleared couldn’t hear what went on in there. The noise suddenly stopped and a radiocast started. My technician and I just stared at each other; her first comment was, “I’m amazed we went this long without something like this happening.”
One of my fraternity brothers got a job at Raytheon designing missiles. I have no idea how they manage to hit anything.
Missiles are one of those products that benefits the manufacturer when they don’t actually work.
Missed? No matter, we’ll make more.
I was in the same place as every other student in my school – sitting on the bleachers in the gym, watching the launch live as part of our all-school assembly. We were part of the group of schools that were going to do the ccTV lessons. Christa McAuliffe visited our school in the weeks or months leading up to the launch. I shook her hand. So did every other student in the school.
I was in Guatemala, on my mission. I came around a corner, and there was the newsboy with El Grafico and La Prensa both with big pictures of the explosion.
Working as a researcher/data analyst with a provincial government; the guy who poked his head into my office to tell me the news had a reputation as a prankster, so at first I just said “yeah, right.”
It wasn’t until one of the deputy ministers had tuned his TV to the local all-news channel and invited people in to his office to watch that I realized it was true.
I was working at Honeywell’s corporate campus. Because we made some of the shuttle’s parts, we all gathered to watch the lift-off. Boom.
I found out when I got into work. It shook me pretty hard.
I had hitch-hiked with a friend down to Cocoa Beach (from Durham, NH) to see the first shuttle take off. It was so awesome, I convinced a different friend to do the same for the second launch, but due to delays, we had to return to NH before the second one took off.
By the time of the Challenger explosion, I was out of school and working, so I didn’t pay anywhere near as much attention to launches, but still…
I was about 2 months from being born.
“But I expect the taxpayers to have money taken away and given to her.”
Always a safe bet in such a case.
Err if the facts of the case are as stated in the article it sounds like she has a pretty good case against them and she should win a settlement. The real problem here is that there is no process which punishes Government Employees when they make decisions that cost the government hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. I mean at least we could have a law that says any government employee whose actions results in a legal judgement which costs the government more than $50,000 will be summarily terminated, lose all accrued pension benefits, and be barred from ever being employed by the government again.
Let me stipulate that I bottle fed formula because my milk didn’t come in, and yet the breastfeeding always cult does not acknowledge this is a medical reality and gave me shit for it. I couldn’t have pumped if I wanted to and I was a work at home mom.
That said, it sounds to me like the crew was being a bunch of assholes just to be assholes. Women in the workplace don’t have a monopoly on being passive-aggressive hostile cunts.
I never got the need to judge other people that affects so many busy bodies Mojeaux.
Neither do I. Fortunately, I have the ability to say “go fuck yourself” whereas other women do not.
Let me stipulate that I bottle fed formula because my milk didn’t come in, and yet the breastfeeding always cult does not acknowledge this is a medical reality and gave me shit for it
Similar story for my wife. Don’t get me wrong, breast milk is amazing stuff and formula isn’t a 100% substitute, but it’s not a choice every mom gets to make.
Honestly though, it’s a proxy for the stay at home v. working mom debate, which is why it gets so shitty.
This seems to be hitting a lot of Page 2s, but the director of “Bohemian Rhapsody” has been accused by even more people of sexual assault of minors. Or as we like to call it in the real world, “child rape”. >>forced to pump breast milk in public: lawsuit
Huh – when I was at the library the other day I saw a woman breastfeeding her baby. I felt traumatized seeing her engorged breasts brimming with sustenance.
Especially since she was not sharing, right?
It takes a village!
Did you ask her to put some in your coffee?
Kamala Harris kicked off her presidential campaign.
For some reason YouTube saw fit to put one of her ads before a video yesterday. It was chock full of banal platitudes, many of which she does not actually believe in (such as “freedom”). Needless to say, it elevated my blood pressure.
Best nickname: Ho-Bama
Consider that stolen!
Freedom to leftists is the ability to choose which master your meager handouts will come from, as long as said masters are approved members of the democrat party.
And as long as those masters want to steal every disposablempenny em everyone making more than you.
God, these people are fucking scum.
She seems to be the chosen one. The anchors on the news this morning are positively ebullient when discussing her announcement.
It was chock full of banal platitudes, many of which she does not actually believe in (such as “freedom”).
I’m sure she’s right on board with FDR’s “Freedom from Want” and “Freedom from Fear”. It takes a total state to give you that kind of “freedom”.
I was going to link again to the daily mail article with demi whatever but I decided to move on past that phase.
Congratulations. You have taken a step toward a better life.
Spud will disagree with that…
Wrong potato
Why he want’s to stick with Demi through Thicc and thin?
The Tater has an unhealthy obsession with the grossly obese.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
The chunky chick who doesn’t wear enough clothes?
I read that text too quickly and thought Kamala WAS kicked off her campaign. I was just about to laugh my butt off, then I read the rest of the text.
I would have laughed at how many stupid people are out there and cheering her on, then realized we would all be straddled with that shit because of said people and felt sick.
Well the school is closed and EF is off doing a jury trial. So I’m working from home today.
The local news stations are going crazy with Snowmagedon! And I’m looking out the window going huh? Maybe it will get worse, but it won’t.
*but it won’t = and maybe it won’t.
We’re entering the too damned cold to snow phase of winter for a couple days. Then back up into the 40’s and 50’s. Fuck these huge temperature swings, they fuck with my sinuses every time.
We got maybe 3 inches — no big deal. But the temp roller coaster has begun: we went from 10 F at supper time to near freezing (in the middle of the night) and have now plummeted back to 10 (to reach -25 by Thursday).
Snow is up to the bumper of my (low riding) car.

But I’m an ass man! And a leg man! And a torso man!

-man walking down Manhattan street
Is that why we have that picture of the giant assed monkey on our AM link?
I’m not into anal either. I do appreciate a nice butt though. Not the big bubble butts that are all the rage though. Not flat either.
Liking a female butt and/or doing her anal are both straight things.
Wanting or having male butt seks — not as much so.
That is all.
What if he identifies as a xhe and tucks it?
The day I start taking any advice from Roosh is the day I need to be put down.
Sounds like he was being tongue in cheeks.
None of that!
*narrows gaze*
Did you narrow your gaze down to a crack?
*Tightens sphincter*
Whose cheeks did he have his tongue in?
Well, now he’s the butt of your joke.
Brokaw says exactly what Americans have believed for generations. The fact that he was attacked for it is why Trump won and why a majority would like to see tougher immigration enforcement and a wall.
Now to bring back the debate, but damn that kid is annoying even in avatar form.
Teenagers are idiots. It amuses me that the left either celebrates their dumb ideas (David Hogg) or hate their opinions like this kid. I could not care less what a teenager thinks.
Exactly. The left always love the wrong people.
That’s because, well you know, they’re retarded.
“a teenager thinks”
Incorrect to the point it is almost ungrammatical.
It’s not that teenagers don’t think at all. They just think at a level similar to the way a one-year-old runs. Short, almost uncontrolled spurts. Rarely finishing in the same direction as they began.
>>Short, almost uncontrolled spurts. Rarely finishing in the same direction as they began.
go on…
The left hates assimilation because they’re narcissistic racists.
It’s a weird twist on the “White Man’s Burden”. Instead of going to where they live and, trying to civilize them and fixing their shitholes, we now invite them here but don’t require them to become civilized because that would be racist.
They hate assimilation because the assumption is that they should assimilate to traditional American values: Protestant work ethic, free speech, personal responsibility, etc…
These are all values that they are opposed to.
That you can even assimilate at all is amazing. Can you do that in any other country in the world?
In most of the other countries on this planet that I have visited, the idea of assimilation is laughed at. The locals will always consider you an outsider.
Now that I think about it, no.
This “country” you speak of. Whose? It isn’t my country any more. I interact with about 1/3 to 1/2 non English speakers. Where I grew up, Springdale, are. Everyone spoke English. Now Springdale is north Mexico and has been tiajuanaized Some, as in more than 1, out right aren’t assimilating.
.
Huh, I wonder what’s magic about our town, where the second generation all speak English and live their lives pretty much the same way as everyone else. Just like with my immigrant ancestors, but with better food.
The Anti Blintz Defamation League wants a word.
Chile rellenos >>> blintzes. Sad, but true.
Can you do that in any other country in the world?
I think it can be (over)simplified into a “New World” vs “Old World” thing. Nearly all the “New World” nations are good about assimilating people (although we will leave out the fact that none of them bothered to assimilate to the preexisting cultures). Back when the Syrian migrant issue was a big thing I remember reading an article about some refugees that had been accepted to some South American nation (Uruguay, I think), and they were complaining because the school they were sending their children to was trying to assimilate them so hard they felt they were turning Spanish. The majority of Argentinians and Uruguayans are of non-Spanish descent, yet they speak Spanish and have a very Spanish-oriented culture. And Canada has consistently had a higher level of immigration per capita than the US but remains distinctly Canadian. So, it’s not just the US, but it doesn’t seem to be as common a feature outside the Americas.
On assimilation. Not when you have unelected, unaccountable piece of shit kangaroo courts like the Human Rights Tribunal.
They fined a landlord with Muslim tenants $12 000 for not taking his shoes off in his own apartment.
https://globalnews.ca/news/3423857/brampton-landlord-fined-12k-for-violating-tenants-religious-rights/
The left hates western enlightened civilization. They want to destroy it. Everything they are for is destructive to our culture, our institutions, to us as individuals. It is pretty simple. They want to overload us with people whose values and culture are diametrically opposed to our own.
Iron laws aren’t called Iron for nothing – foreseeable consequences are not unintended. What is happening in Venezuela is not by accident or unintended and it is exactly what the left wants here.
No, no. You have it wrong. They want to make it ‘better’.
Do better.
What’s so wrong about that?
Gillette.
High school stops selling yearbook over Nazi quote
Yet they won’t give us the direct quote in the article. Do I have to buy the yearbook to get it?
I’m guessing it is the Big Lie quote, about people being less skeptical about big lies because they can’t believe anyone would have the audacity to say something so obviously untrue.
Let it be known that Hitler preferred to use toilet paper instead of his bare hand.
Toilet paper must be banned.
For the children!!
You know who else used toilet paper?….Wait, am I doing this wrong?
Trump, obviously.
The biggest, softest, most beautiful toilet paper. The Mother of All Charmin.
So we erase any mention of the National Socialists from history…to what end? So we can repeat it?
Yes, exactly that. If you knew what happened you would see it coming around again.
The quote is actually very useful to know of and understand. That might be the real problem.
Those who
cannot learnerase history are doomed to repeat it.Know what’s all so darkly humorous in this? That they hate Nazis not because of what they did to the Jews – Heck, they barely even know what a Nazi is and the history of WW2 – but because Trump. They went straight from a word they heard was bad to connecting and correlating it to Trump and his symbols. Ie hats.
They’re that illiberally retarded.
Libtarded.
And of course they know nothing of Nazis or nazism. They ignore that nazism is a derivative of fascism witch is a derivative of socialism. And being socialist (with a streak of Antisemitism, among other things) they are way closer to being nazis than anyone they accuse of being one.
“Buy a Volkswagen, and in it for a lifetime”
Own…..fucking shitty keyboard programmer. Probably some tetard on a h1b.
Wouldn’t it be easier just to burn the yearbooks? You could even make a Friday night out of it!
“The school has stopped selling yearbooks, but some have already been distributed. Students who already have a yearbook can either get a custom sticker to cover the quote, or they can return their book and get a replacement.”
Or can they just be an adult about it, and just keep it as-is?
Students who already have a yearbook can either get a custom sticker to cover the quote, or they can return their book and get a replacement.
I hope that the student with the original quote gets to put a new one on the replacement sticker, and I hope he chooses one from a more acceptable historical figure:
“It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles” – Sun Tzu
It was chock full of banal platitudes, many of which she does not actually believe in (such as “freedom”).
I don’t know about that. I think she believes society, as embodied by her, should be free to control your every thought and deed.
I’m confused. Are women empowered by public breast feeding and think society should accept it as normal? Or is it still embarrassing and there should be a private place provided so they feel comfy? Or both at the same time?
Whichever one gives them a welfare check.
Somehow I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t four or five different “feminist” views on the subject, most of them requiring advanced degrees in wyminz studies to be able to articulate properly.
Rule #1. All women are insane.
Everything else out of thier piehole is, this, easily explained.
So in fucked up woman land, yes, both, at the same time.
IN this case it was pumping not feeding directly and the issue was that they failed to provide a designated place for her to do it, which is reasonable since she was the only female there. Then they required her to do it on her own time, again reasonable. Then they made her use her break times to do the pumping and when her break ended clock out so the time she was pumping was unpaid, not entirely unreasonable. Then we get to the unreasonable part, even though it was technologically possible for her to clock in and out from one of the laptops they had around the shop she was not allowed to do so, they required her to get up with the pump still attached and walk across the shop floor to the timeclock and manually clock in/out.
That last one is petty and vindictive at best and IMO a pretty legitimate case for a discrimination suit
I agree with Rasilio here. Total BS that supervisors wouldn’t find a way to make it work better for her and probably better for the other people there as well.
The school has stopped selling yearbooks, but some have already been distributed. Students who already have a yearbook can either get a custom sticker to cover the quote, or they can return their book and get a replacement.
That made me laugh so hard I had a coughing fit.
Shut off the lights and lock the doors. This place is toast.

“The Bosche!”
Good luck with that.
Don’t mention the boar!
I fly back to America tomorrow morning. I just got to my cheap but well-located and tiny hotel room. The entirety of my life is one (heavy) piece of luggage, a backpack and whatever’s in my pockets. I need to take an express train to the airport in the morning. The flight is about 13 hours long, so from hotel to ‘home’ will probably take 20 hours or so. I will be a wreck.
I’ve said goodbye to all of my friends, though Lady is coming up to spend the night after work. It feels so weird to leave. I’m so excited to see my family and especially the nephews, but I’m going to a place that is ironically foreign to me. I’m going to have to continue my nomadic lifestyle going back-and-forth between my brother and my parents until April or so. Otherwise I don’t have any friends and don’t know a soul.I will try to keep myself incredibly occupied with The Hustle and the goal of location independence.
I plan on eating everything that has ever existed.
Hope all is well with everyone.
Welcome Home
Thanks! Still no place to call my own. But I’ll be happy to be a shitlord in America for a while.
No home until I get my own place in Chiang Mai.
Safe flight man and hope you have a good time with the family in the States. It’ll definitely take you some time to readjust, but I’m sure you’ll make it just fine. Looking forward to hearing updates from ya.
Don’t worry, Tractor pullzZ and banjo plucking are still a thing here in flyover country.
Notoriously posh British homosexual intellectual loving the heck out of banjo picking:

Such a delightful video for me to watch while I eat my lunch. Thank you for posting it!
I know the feeling of going back to an America that isn’t quite the same as the one you left. Expats recognize the changes more than those who never left. Just seeing/reading about it on the internet isn’t the same as walking among them all day.
But it’s funny, after my last trip home (last September) I had the deepest homesickness on returning to Japan. Some things about the US I really missed more than I had in the quarter-century since I left. Maybe I’m getting too old for this shyte.
Reverse culture shock is a real thing. Every time I’ve gone back it’s always eye-opening.
I’m terrified of being around my progressive family and the people that live in my are (Carmel, IN). I fear I’m going to say something that might get me punched in the face.
It’s been 12 years or so since I’ve even visited the states. Honestly, I have no yearning to either. That’s part of the reason I hang out here because the Americans I meet in meatspace are all fucking dopey and brainwashed.
I have managed to go back almost every year – twice or more in some.
I realized that most of my homesickness after this last trip was because – coincidentally – I was retiring from the Army Reserves at about the same time. I had been getting my “Murika” fix once a month doing my reserve drill – working/hanging out with Americans, most of whom had only been here for a year or so – still fresh from the US. Now that my connection is severed I won’t be seeing groups of Americans on a regular basis.
I’m terrified of being around my progressive family and the people that live in my are (Carmel, IN). I fear I’m going to say something that might get me punched in the face.
If they find something you say offensive, just revert to defensive foreigner mode: pretend you don’t understand what’s going on. Smile, nod, and earnestly repeat a phrase in a language they don’t understand.
“Cinga tu madre?”
Let us know how the transition goes. I’m curious.
Enjoy your new adventure:)
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists also tweeted that it voiced its concerns about Brokaw’s “inaccurate commentary” to NBC.
I’m sure they did.
I’m sure they were excited about it too.
IT’S OUR TURN
Yet they won’t give us the direct quote in the article.
It’s for your own good. If you read it, you’d die. Then you’d turn into Zombie Hitler. They don’t want that hanging over them.
I’d bet a dollar to a donut that the quote sounded too much like much of what the DNC blathers on about – that’s why it got through the censor screen. If it was so vile and horrendous they wouldn’t mind publishing it so you could see for yourself how vile and horrendous the Nazis were.
Even if it was super horrible they wouldn’t print it. They know that if they print the quote, someone will shriek in horror that a paper is now printing Nazi propaganda. No matter how many follow up stories that they printed, the morons would still remember them as the “Nazi newspaper of the alt-right”.
Better to just avoid that shit storm if you are the editor. The problem is that the Shrieker’s Veto is something that really needs to be pushed back against.
Nazi quotes, Mohammed cartoons… we need common-sense censorship!
How will we protect the snowflakes otherwise??
The direct quote would be in German anyway.
“Arbeit Macht Frei”
Hope all is well with everyone.
Have fun, man.
Harris County GOP draws fire for post blaming ‘leftism’ for the Holocaust
You know who else stirred up controversy…
Chicago pizza flavored casserole makers?
“In memory of the 6 million Jews lost to Nazi hatred” reads like they became Nazis
“The Holocaust should never be used for political purposes”
Particularly at a time when we have a LITERAL NAZI in the white house who is planning to LITERALLY EXTERMINATE minorities!
These people do know that the Nazis were socialists (NSDAP) and that they were behind the holocaust because they were trying to create a better world for the progressive German people, right? Or do these sorts of facts need to be buried and this form of socialism rebranded as “right wing” so they can make excuses for the murderous record of the other lefitst ideology: marxism?
Oh, quite a few will vehemently deny that Nazis were socialists, and get really angry and offended when you point out the official name of the Nazi’s political party.
I had that … discussion … with my son, who was taught by literally socialist friends that socialism is all hugging and rainbows, and that runaway capitalism is bad.
He wasn’t too happy when I pointed out that his employer, Costco, was an example of a thriving capitalism business.
the official name of the Nazi’s political party
Granted that the name does not always accurately identify things (see: DPRK), the Nazi platform was replete with socialist policies and Hitler, himself, was very explicit that the Nazis were socialist and explicitly against capitalism/free-markets.
And? That’s precisely what they were: Leftists.
I’m terrified to delve into the comments.
Leftists are collectivists. The Nazis were/are collectivists. Collectivism is left-wing. Socialism > fascism > Nazism. I don;t see the problem with their position here.
James Bond?
Oh, wait, he shook up controversy.
“The Holocaust should never be used for political purposes,”
Satire is dead.
Someone needs to tell Mel Brooks how offensive all of his early films were. They could probably sell tickets on PPV to his response.
This is why my kids go to a Catholic school even though we’re not Catholic. From a recent email:
No Art of War?
Just St. Benedict’s version.
Me maybe it was more inspriational in the original chineese but the translation I read of it was highly underwhelming amounting to little more than common sense platitudes that any 13 year old could figure out.
I’m surprised Trump hasn’t ordered The Art of the Deal to be placed in every public school library.
It’ll all be beaten out of them in college anyway.

“It’s the right thing to do to protect our animals and unborn animals”
But not unborn humans. Cause you know… Women have a natural right to murder.
Wait, the cops didn’t just shoot the cow? I am shocked.
Agreed on Pat’s comment.
” Brianna kicked open a door, jumped off a two-level cattle trailer that was headed toward a slaughterhouse”
She’s like a regular Clint Eastwood!
Jason-ette Bourne!
>Brianna, the cow that escaped slaughter
Worst. Grindhouse. Movie. Ever.
“It’s the right thing to do to protect our animals and unborn animals,” Wimberly said.
Now do unborn humans.
These people don’t care about humans. In fact, we should be eating humans according to them…
Don’t be too modest there. Children’s skin could also be used to make some fine driving gloves.
Is that some kind of proposal?
Kermit Gosnell did have some exquisite gloves. So supple.

Sex robots could lead to population crisis as men opt for virtual girlfriends
I wish these fear mongering cunt scabs would make up their minds whether population reduction is a drastically necessary step to preserve our environment and social structures, or if it’s a sign of the impending apocalypse.
Population of Japan 2077: 100 million, 0 human…..
A better hook would be 100 million, 1 human.
Yeah….. I was kinda thinking about the old Star Trek First Contact poster.
This should help. TW TOS.

“Hapless” isn’t the word I would use to describe him.
Who the fuck sticks around when crazy unmasks so hard?
I remember when my mom was ranting to me about how sad and disgusted she felt when she first heard about “the rise of the sex dolls”. I tried so hard to stifle my laughter.
Will the whole Terminator series be remade, and the new bad buy be Sky-ho, a sex robot from the future?
Sounds hot, I’ll fund it.

Where are the going to get the serfs that will swell the ranks of the productive they can fleece and the unproductive whose votes they will buy with the money they steal from the productive if dudes stop wanting women and the human race stops making the sheeple the totalitarian leftist collectivist feudal systems need?
Maybe if you didn’t have a Ponzi scheme pension system set up you could enjoy the extra space created by a decreasing population.
Sex dolls are not replacing women.
Men still need someone to make sure we are never given a chance to have any kind of happy time?
I assume they could be programmed.
It will probably still be cheaper to get a $6-20K sex robot that is programmed to harangue you than it is to get a real woman. Now if they really want to ruin it for guys, they should program the robot to rack up huge credit card bills for the guy to pay. Then the only people still going for them bots will be the guys that really have figured out the pain is not worth it…
Of course. Nobody would buy a sex doll that says “no”.
Err, I know more than a few guys who would
Unless they also program the sex doll to fight back when you ignore the “no”, I’d say that would be a feature, not a bug, for a majority of the customers.
These predictions are premature.
Through reading major works such as the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, the Lincoln-Douglas debates, and Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, our students come to know and love their country more, to appreciate its great figures and its place in world history. And they learn the importance of virtue in the functioning of a democracy.
Racist patriarchy propaganda confirmed.
They should make the term ‘our democracy is under attack’ illegal.
Or at least punishable by public lashing.
That’s just your clever ploy to take away our first line of defense when Canada invades.
If they said, “Our government is under attack” you’d probably have a different public reaction.

She was required to go to a public space to clock out when her 15 minute break was up. They had the ability to let her clock out using a laptop but she was not allowed to use the laptop for that purpose. If that was the case, sounds very spiteful on the supervisors part.
Headline on Yahoo today: “Nixon Foundation Scrambles To Distance Late President From Roger Stone”
That’s just sad. Did they ever distance themselves from that nutjob Liddy?
Or PAT!:!?!?!?!?!?!?!!111///?!?!?
If you are part of a Nixon Foundation, at a certain point I think you’d stop caring about what other people thought. Nixon is basically the go-to pop-culture punching bag villain, so if you are already supporting a foundation in his honor you’re not going to improve your social standing by distancing yourself from any other American politician or operative.
Something to chew on from the “People With Way Too Much Time on Their Hands” desk:
But as shoppers change, so must the systems that serve them. Younger, socially conscious Americans and their concerns about sustainability have turned some unflattering attention toward the food industry. One of the most popularly cited problems is the amount of produce that goes entirely unconsumed in the developed world. By some estimations, it’s more than half. To combat that, a new class of for-profit start-ups has emerged: ugly-produce boxes. Companies like Misfits Market, Imperfect Produce, and Hungry Harvest aim to fill the logistical gaps and provide new markets for growers by buying up farmers’ “ugly” or excess produce and shipping it directly to your doorstep, often by subscription. They’re the rescue dogs of vegetation.
———-
Other farmers are less enthusiastic. Terra Organics, based in Washington, shut down at the end of last year, and its owners cited the emergence of ugly-produce companies as among the reasons it was going out of business. In an interview with The New Republic, Imperfect Produce, the start-up that serves Terra Organics’ former community, conceded that it works with industrial-scale producers like Dole to source food, which critics say can make these start-ups an ally of exactly the food system that creates waste and hunger in the first place. If affluent consumers can feel as if they’re making ethical purchases while enjoying the savings and convenience of wonky vegetables delivered from commercial producers, they might be less likely to buy from local producers and cooperatives.
“Food justice advocates”?
I, uh…. oh, fuck it.
It’s easier to just say “assholes”
To combat that, a new class of for-profit start-ups has emerged: ugly-produce boxes. Buy the castoff shit that the farmers can’t sell to anybody else for pennies on the dollar and then charge a premium selling it to overprivileged shame fetishists. Nice work if you can get it.
“exactly the food system that creates waste and hunger in the first place”
Logical. A system that produces so much food that the ugly stuff can be thrown away must be causing people to starve. Don’t believe it? Just go to Walmart, and see how the poor people are wasting away as they wander among the empty shelves.
Usually the ugly stuff is reprocessed so that the ugly is not visible. Marinated portions of artichoke hearts, instant potatoes, apple juice, ground beef — you name it.

Is DANA SCHUSTER like STEVE SMITH?
Pelosi: Democrats Do ‘the Lord’s Work,’ Republicans ‘Dishonor God’
In yet another example of moral narcissism and the liberal inability to understand conservative positions on faith, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi declared that her party, the Democratic Party, does the will of God while Republicans dishonor their Creator.
Of Republicans, the Democrat congresswoman from California declared, “They pray in church on Sunday and they prey on people the rest of the week. And while we’re doing the Lord’s work, ministering to the needs of God’s creation, they are ignoring those needs which is to dishonor the God who made them.”
Perhaps emboldened by Pope Francis’ encyclical on climate change, Pelosi thus equated the climate alarmism and draconian regulations pushed by her party with a godly care for the environment. In doing so, she failed to understand that there are good reasons to doubt the “scientific consensus” on man-made global warming. She also failed to note that God’s care for “the least of these” can justify cutting regulations, which will unleash economic growth which helps the poor as well as the rich.
This is why Pelosi’s declaration that Republicans “prey on people” was important. By falsely equating free market policies with the kind of crony capitalism that leads to monopoly, Democrats argue that the Republican agenda enables the rich to harm the poor.
The Democrat added that “we don’t wear religion on our sleeve, but maybe we should.” When asked by MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough how her party can “connect with the middle America who sometimes feel they’re looked down on because of their faith or their values,” Pelosi admitted that rural Americans “don’t think that Democrats are people of faith, when the fact is that we are.”
Of course you are religious, Nancy. Your religion is government.
“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”
I’m sure Joy Behar and Bill Maher will be around any time to tell us that Nancy is a mentally ill fundamentalist nut case who thinks she’s in communication with god.
Show me any example of Democrats being opposed to crony capitalism. I’m not going to hold my breath.
Dear Nancy Pelosi,
As a fellow Catholic, please go fornicate yourself and go to Confession afterwards, maybe even grow up and actually learn a bit about your fellow man before you moralize the rest of us from your pulpit.
Sincerely,
This Tired Catholic
But she claims to be a part of that extremist church, the Catholics, with their Knights and Bishops… why they’re almost a whole chess set at this point.
There is a CS Lewis quotation I can’t find right now, so will paraphrase.
“When a politician adds on ‘…thus sayeth the Lord’, he lies, and lies badly.”
This is what you get when you have an entire political ethos not rooted in principles. The DNC (and left-wing parties across the West) have done nothing but pound organized religion into the ground less on philosophical grounds but more on (communistic godless) political considerations. They always looked on religious people with anger and pity. Now all of a sudden they spin around and talk about the Lord? OMFG. The cynical play is easy to spot here.
Trump is so evil he’s the Devil incarnate and we’re the light. We’re the side of God.
Oh, the irony of it all.
They pray in church on Sunday and they prey on people the rest of the week. And while we’re doing the Lord’s work, ministering to the needs of God’s creation, they are ignoring those needs which is to dishonor the God who made them.
The lords work like leagalizing Infanticide? The Left can get of their fucking high horse for ever after celebrating the murder of innocents.
Secondly, this is just flat out wrong. Show me where it’s the Lord’s work to go about robbing peter to pay Paul. Let’s ignore charity, and the established fact that Right-wing people generally donate more to charity than left. The idea that forcing people to get the right outcome is antithetical to what any christian should believe about their God.
By falsely equating free market policies with the kind of crony capitalism that leads to monopoly, Democrats argue that the Republican agenda enables the rich to harm the poor.
The author misses a more basic point. Free markets are people seeking to voluntarily meet other people’s needs. Democrats focus on the “profit” part and don’t understand or ignore tha fact that if somoen is making a profit, there are many people that are pleased with what they have recieved. Government on the other hand seeks only to Rob people.
Nancy Pelosi will rot in hell one day.
My first thought is that this will not go over well in flyover country — Nancy has shot the Dems in the foot, again.
She’s channeling some jackass commentator from TOS who several years back talked about “doing God’s work in some of the toughest neighborhoods” or words to that effect.
I don’t see how this tactic makes any sense for Democrats except as pure trolling. The Democrat base are by-and-large rabidly hostile to christian religion and abjectly terrified that those bible-thumpers are gonna come along and take away their precious abortion rights. Now Nancy is going to start courting them?
Whoa. She crossed the Rubicon.
I’ll leave it to the Pope and her bishop to figure out why she hasn’t been excommunicated, but she and her party have openly supported undeclared wars in multiple countries and funding abortions right up until the kid has a social security number. Not sure how she squares that with Catholicism.
“It’s the right thing to do to protect our animals and unborn animals,” Wimberly said.
Four legs good.
Two legs bad.
Well if no one else is going to point it out: This was a brilliant reference. You get one gold star.
I really don’t think she has a real chance at winning. To messy of a background. But we’ll see I suppose
how much free stuff is she promising?
We know that won’t matter to her base. Maybe it matters to the undecided middle but with the ongoing polarization of the voting public I’m really not sure how much undecided middle is left to sway any more.
So, how many more of these attempts to circumvent the constitution to allow the left to corner the executive branch through a majority vote are happening out there? These people should go back and read what the Greeks wrote about pure democracy some 2500 years ago. Then again, the left sees these things as features and not bugs, and they despise the white slave owning evil men that dared to make this country a republic to specifically prevent the evils of a pure democracy from destroying it.
It’s pretty amazing that they’re willing to sell out their own state in the name of prog politics.
that’s cute Colorado wants to give their votes to California.
I’m sure their residents will be pleased when their state votes opposite of what they did because the Majority of other shits in the country voted for Trump. Think Bush vs Kerry.
It really is giving up their own representation. Stupid is as stupid does.
The Constitution is deliberately designed to place serious limits on power. Of course the left hates it.
They love it when it places limits on their political enemies. As typical top down cunts though, they want to make sure it doesn’t limit them from doing whatever evil shit they want to do.
I think maybe 10-20% of voters, tops, actually think states have a reason to exist other than as administrative subdivisions of an all-powerful, all-controlling federal supergovernment.
I’m in a bit of debate with a friend about whether or not it’s a true negative rights vs. positive rights document.
Looking at the map in the article, what if electoral votes for states went by area? Progs would have a heart attack.
“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” – Adolf Hitler
I am sure this is the quote that got the yearbook nixed. See: Collusion with Russia. No reasonable prosecutor. Piss hookers. Everything Obama ever said. etc. etc.
Would make sense Suthen. The left is really desperate about making sure people don’t see it for what it is.
I don’t think it was Hitler that coined it but Himmler, who ran the propoganda arm of the Nazi party.
I think you are correct but when I looked the quote up it was attributed to Hitler. I found that on the internet so you know it has to be true.
I also thought Himmler.
Well if it was said by a Nazi, it must have been Hitler, who was the only evil person ever…

Himmler, Hitler… Same thing. TRUMP!
/progtard
Goebbels said that not Hitler or Himmler. Goebbels was the propaganda chief.
I don’t know I’ve said it was Himmler many times, so it must be true now…
(i knew it was the propaganda chief)
“Nixon Foundation Scrambles To Distance Late President From Roger Stone”
They’re still deluding themselves that the progressives are going to de-unperson their man and build a giant monument to him on the Mall for his Great Deeds, like untethering the dollar and imposing wage and price controls. Stone is disposable.
The funny part of that is Nixon was a total progressive on domestic issues. He created the modern administrative state. They hate him only because he played for the other team.
What kills me is that nobody has wired Nixon in his grave as a means to make carbon free electricity. That dude must be spinning at 1 million RPMs after seeing what the Obama administration got away with doing to its political enemies by means of sicking Fed Gov entities on them, and he wants his resignation back…
Sex dolls are not replacing women.
Robot simulacra of Mrs Harcourt Fenton Mudd, however…
I had a surprise yesterday: I actually watched a Ken Burns documentary that I enjoyed, The Central Park 5. Worth watching for the police and prosecution corruption, throwing 5 innocents teenagers into the slammer without a shred of evidence beyond some confessions that didn’t even mesh with each other. And the unquestioning media.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AehmA3hTLmA.
Sounds like a measured and balanced production…
Meh, I suppose people can see it through whatever lens they want but I thought it was fairly balanced – at least enough where they weren’t screaming RACISM at every frame.
I mean they’ve got a point though, it’s not like New York has any history of wrongfully convicting wealthy white people…
I’m certain the detective faced repercussions for this unethical behavior.
unethical? his job is to get the criminals. Sometimes you got to execute a few hundred innocents to make sure that one thief burns.
his job is to get
the criminalsconvictions. The idea that the law enforcement-industrial complex really cares much about convicting the guilty party was shown as a lie by their steadfast resistance to DNA testing on closed cases and to releasing prisoners who have been shown to be innocent.
As if white people were never railroaded.
Just look at that family who had their lives and daycare business destroyed in Massachusetts during the child abuse panic.
I forget their names but I believe the mother died in prison. I believe Coakley had a chance to exonerate them since it was proven they were innocent but declined to do so.
Evil twat.
Coakley is fucking scum.
She deserves to rot in prison for the rest of her miserable life for railroading that couple.
The simple fact that she never faced repercussions for what she did tells you all you need to know about our justice system.
I remember hearing about it and thinking to myself what an evil horrible person who deserves a severe come-uppence. Even if it came in the form of some terrible disease. Her and Katherine Forest.
Justice my ass.
Janet Reno anyone?
Chelsea Clinton’s dad?
Webb Hubbell?
No, Janet Reno.
I actually watched a Ken Burns documentary that I enjoyed
I have a couple of friends who keep telling me his Viet Nam doc is “really good”. I’m not buying it.
I pissed a few people off, back when; I said that Civil War thing was like ten hours of listening to people read bumper stickers.
I also disliked the Civil War documentary – show me some goddam maps of the battle with arrows showing the movement of the troops. And the flashpoints.
There’s hundreds of documentaries on battles with maps, and troop movements and whatnot. Ken Burns doesn’t do that.
His documentaries tend to ignore the decision makers that everyone else writes books and creates documentaries about, and instead tells stories of average people who experienced it.
His major failing is the view that a Roosevelt can do no wrong.
A little context would put the narrative into better perspective. That’s all.
I liked it only for the reading of the letters, a tone I frequently adopt in daily conversation. Like this voicemail I left my wife the other day,
“Dearest Mrs. Hero, it is my dearest hope this message finds you in good health. I know not whether I shall make it back to my abode in time for the evening meal, or whether I shall sup with my companions at the workplace. I can only hold faith that my cause is just and will be accomplished in good time.
Love, LAH”
I liked the first two Vietnam episodes. After that, it just became a one-sided story told from the perspective of draft dodgers. The last few episodes were devoted to trashing Nixon.
I haven’t seen it yet, but I hear Millwall’s tying goal was basically Maradona hand-ball only worse.

You don’t pay a whore for sex.
You pay her to leave after.

I guess they do things in a different order. One fucks you and then gets paid and the other takes your money and then fucks you.
STEVE SMITH SLEEP HIS WAY TO THE TOP. AND THE BOTTOM.
STEVE SMITH TOP, NOT BOTTOM!!
The thing about Harris and what looks to be a ‘moral-righteous’ crusade campaign is that she doesn’t exude honesty. I know to her base maybe but to me, when i see her, I don’t see much other than the usual political hack. Like Obama and Trudeau, they build a fake aura around a narrative.
You think progressives see honesty of any kind as anything but a fault in their politicians? I mean, how do you explain these prog asshats constantly getting fucked by these politicians that lie to them and still loving them? It can’t just be the free shit or the desperate need to be able to virtue signal and grandstand about having the right standards (a double standard for leftists), can it?
I don’t see much other than the usual political hack.
Honestly, I see worse. The politician she reminds me most of is Martha Coakley. If you look at her “moral crusades”, they almost invariably involve screwing over innocent people.
He made her powerful by injection.
Wait. Brokaw accused Americans of being straight up racists because they don’t want brown grandkids, but he has to apologize to the Mexicans for saying they need to do more to assimilate?
uffda, that is quite the deal.
What passes for intellectual though in the progressive movement can’t be parodied.
I guess you could argue that hysterical overreaction and vilification of your ideological enemies is assimilation. Just like the Somalis figuring out that you can for non profit organizations to promote Somali “rights” and get $$$ from the government to run them.

When comparing a low-fat and a low-carb weight loss group with equal weight loss, the low-carb group ended up with lower trigylceride levels and a similar HDL/LDL cholesterol ratio.
https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/advance-article-abstract/doi/10.1093/ajcn/nqy305/5289643
I cut carbs fairly modestly and my triglycerides went from 113 to 47 in 6 months. Since I substituted them with (mostly) non-saturated fats my HDL and LDL both went up as well, but my total cholesterol is still under 200 and my LDL isn’t at a level that overly concerns me anymore.
For context, I found out a couple years ago when I had my cholesterol done for the first time that my LDL was 166, HDL was 58 and triglycerides around 100. I underwent a pretty substantial change in diet and got that changed around to HDL 47, LDL 103, and triglycerides 113 in 6 months. I decided I’d rather risk a slightly higher LDL to get my HDL back up towards 60 and ended up where I am now, with HDL 57, LDL 123 and triglycerides 47. I’m happier with that risk profile.
What many people don’t get is that the fat and cholesterol in your blood is made by your body, not directly by what you eat. I’m beginning to think that the food pyramid is right up there with the War on Drugs for evil and destructive government programs.
There’s a baseline level you’re going to have no matter what, and ordinarily you can only swing the numbers about 15% with diet. For whatever reason in my case the dietary changes made a fairly substantial difference. I ate a pretty fair amount of fried food and beef before. I don’t fry anything and eat beef once a week now. Some people are “hyper responders” as well, which is largely down to genetics. My 100-pounds-soaking-wet grandmother who is still alive in her mid 80s has had high cholesterol her entire life, and my mother is borderline. So I’m probably in that category. A slightly higher LDL with lower triglycerides is usually a prescription for less VLDL, which is the riskiest LDL subtype. I can’t afford to the type of testing that measures that directly, but based on the latest research I’m happier with the ratio at 123:47 than the 103:113 it was prior, even though a cardiologist would scold me for it. I’m not even sure why I even give a shit to be honest. I’d rather drop dead of a massive coronary than slug it with cancer and alzheimers as the booby prize for surviving my 70s.
We just have to survive until the Singularity…
Knowing my luck they’d thaw me out in 300 years at the same time as Ron Bailey and I’d have to listen to him pick up right where he left off…
I’ve mentioned it before I think, but Death by Food Pyramid: How Shoddy Science, Sketchy Politics and Shady Special Interests Have Ruined Our Health by Denise Minger is an excellent book.
It’s not shocking to most of us who have any interest in nutrition, but it is fascinating to see how it all came about. I’ll say again that the fucking food pyramid probably killed more people than ciggies.
For those who want to be lazy for Valentine’s day, Bell’s Brewing is once again offering up Beerentine’s that they will hand write for you and ship with a small selection of stickers for free. Some of my favorite slogans: “I’m drunk with love, and a little normal drunk too.”; “I firkin love you”; “I love you, and it’s not just the beer talking”.
While trying to find the quote I was looking for above, I found some other good ones from Lewis:
Because the people demand it, Mammary Monday brings you a big bouncy welcome to the workweek.

biology is sexist part #2052955
The Long Lines for Women’s Bathrooms Could Be Eliminated. Why Haven’t They Been?
It’s been more than 30 years since states started trying to achieve “potty parity,” but many queues are still unequal.
Of course….
It’s interesting but they really have latched onto that “disparity of outcome” means x-isim. Just because someone has economic incentives to do something that is not advantageous to you, or a group of people, does not make it bigotry. This is horrible thought, because it assumes that you can please everyone all the time. Lets think about all the people who won’t have a place to live because now rent is too expensive, and not enough housing is available.
They do this because it shuts down arguments.
The result will be a return of actual racism and misogyny as people decide that if they are going to be labeled as such regardless, why not indulge it?
It almost makes you wonder what would happen if there were no minimum codes, and the number of toilets were determined by market preferences and best practices.
WIMMINZ WOULD ALL DIE DUE TO BLADDER EXPLOSION WHILE MEN SAT ON THEIR IRON THRONES!
There’s been a couple of places that have opened up in my neck of the woods with bathrooms. There’s one place downtown that has one communal area for hand washing/drying and the rest of the bathroom area is stalls (with a small number of them labeled as urinals).
“toilets don’t make money (and are quite expensive to install), so developers don’t have a financial reason to go beyond what the code requires”
Sure sounds sexist to me.
Speaking of toilets not making money. What ever happened to pay toilets?
They were still sort of a thing when I was a kid.
I’m sure it became an equal access thing. Still widely used in the UK, though.
That is totally wrong.
Any married men like to comment on the particulars of finding a proper gas station to stop at?
Toilets and toilets alone make the decision about where the Salsa bus stops on road trips.
QuikTrip.
If there is no QuikTrip, I will hold it till we get to a hotel.
That is all.
That is the preferred station for our household as well.
Around here, it’s Buc-ee’s.
You stop? Sissy.
Real men weld the doors on the swagger wagon shut and drive like hell to get where they need to be. We don’t stop for trivial bull shit like pissing.
That’s what you bring water bottles on the trip for, duh!
McDonald’s restrooms are usually the cleanest in the Midwest.
Simple solution use one of those long urine troughs they found in men’s restrooms. Add a lip to it so the ladies can sit.
That is so de-humanizing!
Sorry typing on phone *long urine troughs found*
A slit trench? And to speed things up, they don’t need to be sitting. Just straddle the trough and start pissing.
Have a towel on a conveyor belt as the next stop to help with the cleanup too?
Eww.
WHO LEFT THE SKID MARKS????
How long until the Atlantic starts laying off opinion staff?
Why bother with an opions section when there rest of the paper already does it? When Huff-po laid off theirs, all i could think was. Well it makes sense to trim the duplication off efforts.
Good point
“…and, of course, sexism.”
Of course.
Is this one of those problems that a woman runs into now and again, maybe a couple times a year, but is elevated to existential crisis for the purpose of this article? Because I have a pretty easy solution: port-a-potties. No, really. If this is an intermittent capacity issue, like, say, a conference in a women-heavy industry overloading restrooms at the Hilton, why should Hilton need to renovate its restrooms to accommodate occasional bottlenecks? Just cart in a bunch of port-a-potties and direct women to the parking lot. Easy peasy.
Most venues have restrooms located near each-other. I’ve heard of some that have false walls that can be shifted to manage how many stalls each has.
We won’t truly be woke till we eliminate gendered bathrooms altogether.
Why don’t they build troughs for the ladies to use like guys have to? That sort of efficiency would mean shorter lines, right??
But seriously, I’m going to be quite unhappy if we’re sending anything more than words of support to the people trying to get that asshole out of office down there.
I’d be fine if they sent food and ammo in support. We don’t have to (and shouldn’t) send troops and bombs in order to tip the scales in a positive direction.
Agent Rich Paul told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski the New Orleans Pelicans have been informed that Davis has no intention of signing a contract extension with the organization and wishes to be traded. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Davis already had conversations with teammates about the decision.
I dont really see the lakers havung the assets though
“those who assimilate to their adopted culture are going to be better-received and have a greater chance at success”
Where’s your hood and your burning cross Sloop dur Fuehrer?
Sidenote: I’ve never understood why you wouldn’t want to make an effort to assimilate. If I moved away, I’d do my damnedest to learn the language and culture of my new home. It wouldn’t make my upbringing or my original culture somehow invalid; I could still honor my American origin while trying to adapt. Then again, if you did assimilate and become successful, you’d lose your special victim card.
Knowing that I’d never be able to assimilate is one of the strongest incentives to staying here despite what a piece of shit this country continues to turn into.
Assimilation even occurs within cultures.
The Flesh Eaters are coming to town in March. I was a big fan of them back in high school ‘n’ college – but after all these years I’m having a hard time getting interested in seeing them. Chris D. now looks like a grandpa. I guess you can’t go home.
Last rock concert I attended was probably the last one I’ll ever attend. If either the performer or the audience is much over 30 it just feels fucking embarrassing tbh.
Meh. It depends on the show. I’m in my early 40’s and still will go see the Dropkick Murphy’s when they come to town. I’ll keep going to Viva Las Vegas for Rockabilly until the show ends (or the band list does). I’ve got tickets to Camp Anarchy this summer. The Descendents were a great show, the Slackers always put on a good show. I’ll catch the Boys From County Hell and the Prodigals on St. Patrick’s Day for free. Now, I won’t just go to the venue randomly to catch new acts just because anymore, that kind of lost its luster once I stopped being there regularly enough to get in for free.
Tom Brokaw says something logical. Now he regrets it after a blizzard of snowflakes attack him. Jesus, people, this is pretty simple (opinion coming): those who assimilate to their adopted culture are going to be better-received and have a greater chance at success.
The response to this basically demonstrated his point. FTA:
To me that is no bueno. Fortunately, something else in that article gives me hope that the Rebels will see their dreams dashed on the rock of American assimilation:
“That future is bilingual, bicultural, at times in English, other times in Spanish”
Because this has worked soooooooo well in the past. Look at Quebec! An unambiguous success story! Not to mention Yugoslavia; it was so successful that it became a term describing the beautiful, multicultural future we are all destined for, whether we like it or not!
The future is English. The identitarians might want to tell themselves otherwise, but the language of trade and commerce will remain English.

Next?
When the Europeans, Chinese, and Indians start learning Spanish instead of English then I might reconsider this position. As it stands, no one seems too interested in learning Spanish besides Americans
I think learning Spanish is a pragmatic thing to do.
Not that I’m actually learning Spanish, but it’s on my to-do list.
I’d say English will stick around until something supplants it as the base of most programming languages and protocol responses. If we go all Fahrenheit 451 and start burning books again, that may also cause a language change. Esperanto here we come!
I didn’t say it would be Spanish. they had their run and blew it just the way we are, with economic illiteracy and decadence. But the thing is that it isn’t some genetic superiority that put us on top, it was letting people alone, while maintaining a relatively stable, equably applied and predictable set of laws. We no longer let people alone, and our laws are now unknowable and applied based on who you are rather than what you do. Our current edge over the rest of the world is not going to last under those circumstances.
And none of those previous cultures existed in an age of instantaneous communication. The world was much bigger 2500 years ago and has gotten quite small in the last 100.
That future is bilingual, bicultural, at times in English, other times in Spanish. Our community is defining this future. Not you.
I have nothing against people bein bilingual. nor for other cultures coming here. I just think that the idea that your multicultural/ polyglot view of the future only exists if the majority of people in the US are first/second generation immigrants. Because by the third generation those communities have integrated. Not because someone forced them to, but because they chose to do so.
As usual, the progs want to substitute the superficial for the important.
The only culture that matters is work ethic, personal responsibility, and freedom.
“The only culture that matters is work ethic, personal responsibility, and freedom”
QFT.
Fuck you. If I wanted to live in Mexico, I’d move to Mexico.
Yeah, well, Mexico is moving here, because the Democrats need to import voters.
I am not confident in this hypothesis at all. On the national level, Republicans still win about 40% of the Hispanic vote and on the state level, like in Texas, they win the majority of Hispanic voters. And I’m not sure how the coming progressive war against Christians is going to suit Mexicans, although, to be fair, Mexican immigrants are fairly accustomed to a national government persecuting the faithful.
You are talking about legal immigrants and assimilated citizens. The Dems are looking to the illegals who are not actually eligible to vote, but get on the voter rolls anyway in California and Texas.
Believe me, if illegals were getting on the voter rolls and likely to vote Republican, the Dems would have spent $&00 billion to build a wall 100 feet high with moats filled with piranhas.
Oops..Supposed to be “$700 Billion”
The Dems would also be all in on voter ID and tightening up measures to prevent election fraud.
I don’t doubt that Democrats think that they’re going to get voters out of this. I just wonder if there is a material difference in voting patterns between illegal and legal immigrants. There very much might be, but I’m not convinced yet.
Your stats are off about 10% – the Rs win the Hs by about 30% nationally and 40% in Texas. But as you intuit, the Ds cannot rest on their laurels, as a bad move on their part could shed support. To your specific scenario, I read the other day that the gap in religiosity between white Ds and non-white Ds is larger than the gap between the Ds and the Rs, so there is fertile ground for a costly mistake in this area.
So 81% speak English primarily. Which is totally expected given the history of assimilation here. My immigrant grandparents’ neighborhood had signs exclusively in Yiddish. Somehow, they learned English, and my parents spoke it as their primary language. Plus ca change….
“I wonder how many single black moms I can throw in jail for their kid missing a few days of school and still be considered a progressive champion…”
As many as Ms. Harris wants. She’s a black(-ish) woman, and so she obviously just wants the best for black kids. And if a few doubleplusungood crimethinkers go to jail to make an example for those micreants who would keep their kids out of government indoctrination camps for even a few days … that’s the price of progress.
/progthink
They should really be grateful the government lets them take care of their kids at all. Everyone knows the foster care system does a far better job of raising children than their parents do.
I wonder what the line will be when a black person with two black parents who grew up in the US gets elected. Will he be the first “black” president? Or does Obama get to keep that title? Harris is another of these pretend people. He parents were immigrants, she spent a lot of time growing up in Canada. She has almost no common experience with what the race hustlers would call the “authentic black experience”.
She has almost no common experience with what the race hustlers would call the “authentic black experience
I don’t think anyone who is running for the Dem nomination has any relate-able experience to poor black kids, or poor kids in general. They are all Rich, Privledged. It’s probably why they think the way they do about the “rich”.
When we make JB Smoove president.

Duke University professor removed over ‘Speak English’ email
Duke sucks.
And you can thank Stanley Fish for most of the bullshit they put out now.
while Duke’s medical faculty has promised to review its biostatistics programme.
We found one, let’s search the rest of them to see if there are any other wrong thinkers in hiding there.
Don’t smile while they give your professional life a thorough, forceful vetting, you might be deemed guilty of smug.
Politics- leave it to the trained professionals.
TW:Salon
The last month should have proved to everyone the value of specific political skills and experience. For the first time since Donald Trump was elected, we have seen professional political leaders who understand how the system works put the brakes on this runaway administration. It was an ugly situation, with the president essentially holding government workers hostage to get his way — and then being forced to accept that his zero-sum negotiating style is not how government works.
Led by a seasoned politician, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats used their institutional power to demonstrate to the president that he is not the CEO of the U.S. government and that he shares power with the Congress. It was a hard lesson for him to learn, and he may need further schooling yet.
Trump is a special case, but the problem is much larger than just him. It’s also the Republican Party, which has consistently grown more and more extreme over the past couple of decades. The idea that a neophyte like Schultz could convene a Latte Summit and make everyone “come together” is laughable.
————
I think America has had enough of the “outsider businessman,” whether it’s Howard Schultz or Donald Trump. It’s going to take a massive effort just to get government back up and running properly, much less moving forward again. Schultz needs to leave politics to people who know what they’re doing. America can’t afford another four years of the Donald Trump amateur hour.
We don’t need billionaires or their vanity performance art. We need a stone cold career politician to get this ship pointed in the right direction again. Like, oh, I don’t know; Hillary, maybe?
zero-sum negotiating style
in exchange for wall funding, Trump offered 3-years to DACA and TPS, $800M to asylum families, and was going to allow foreign children in Central America to request asylum from their home country.
clearly that is lose/lose for all involved.
Like a giant bloated tick…
What they mean is that they want to keep growing the fucking thing.
America can’t afford another four years of the Donald Trump amateur hour.
With the current economy, I think we can.
Tom Brokaw shouldn’t have to apologize, because I don’t think his opinion is offensive. I do think it’s rather stupid, though. The notion that Hispanics are not integrating into culture fast enough is just not supported by data. And the fact that third generation Hispanics begin to identify as “white” on census forms highlights this.
Also, intermarriage is probably the fastest way for Hispanics to integrate into American culture. And Hispanics intermarry at a higher rate than previous immigrant groups.
And we are all thankful.
White Hispanic!
Tio Tomas and Tia Juana’s
If Trump had brains he would make his immigration push about increasing the number of skilled visas offered. Then watch the rich white liberal become a frothing at the mouth bigot.
“More Conchitas, less Sanjays”
DEY TERK ER WERMEN!!!
It’s probably true that Hispanics are assimilating fairly quickly. It’s not as visible because new waves of Hispanics replace those assimilating.
It’s sort of like the the phenomenon that Chinatown is often a city’s poorest area, even though Asian immigrants move up the economic ladder fairly quickly. It’s just different Asian groups move to Chinatown.
My best friend from high school married a 2nd gen Mexican girl. At the rehearsal, they needed to cut something but could not find anything. Her father said “All these Mexicans, and no one has a knife? Jesus.” Reality is so much better than Media World.
I’ve been to Mexico many times and let me tell you, they are not sending us their hottest women.
Twitter is now banning people for telling laid off journalists to “learn to code”. Twitter, of course, did not ban any journos who tried to dox and threatened the lives of high school kids.
Also, journalists should learn to code or learn any skill of value. Just too bad how the real victims in America are privileged white liberals. They have it so tough.
At this point expecting Twitter to apply their own TOS evenly is silly. They should just turn their TOS into a copy of r/latestagecapitalisim’s rules.
When Twitter formed that committee to monitor behavior and staffed it exclusively with SJWs, it should have been obvious to everyone that this is what would happen.

BTW, CNN was on at the hotel breakfast room today and they were pimpin the hell out of Kamala’s Town Hall in Iowa tonight? WTF? Did Liz get a Town Hall? I sure don’t remember CNN putting one on for Rand when he declared in 2016.

But…but…his father’s newsletters from thirty years ago. There were newsletters. And two of them were offensive.
Rand Paul has done more for minority communities by spearheading criminal justice reform than Harris has ever done in her entire life. Oh, the irony
Don’t forget the medical trips to Haiti.
expect tough pre-screened questions from CNN’s heavily vetted audience.
Maybe they’ll even trot out Candy Crowley to “moderate” one of her debates.
“You’re so great, Kamala. How are you so great?”
Black, woman, leftist, semi-nutcase, hates whitey.
Of course CNN loves her.
You forgot “unethical and immoral POS”.
That’s a synonym for leftist as far as I’m concerned so I had that covered.
I can’t put people like Dershowitz in the same category as Harris.
I remember when I was in high school and thought that Dershowitz was a no holds barred nut.
It is amazing that he is now the non-crazy leftist.
Dershowitz got his honesty cred from me when he openly advocated to repeal the Second Amendment, because he said gun control was not constitutional as long as the Second Amendment was part of the Constitution.
That’s an honest leftist: “One of our major policy positions is completely unconstitutional, so the first step is to amend the Constitution.”
I was just kidding, there are still a few good ones left.
They’re working on changing that.
Wraps herself in insincere self-righteousness while actively hurting poor people and minorities.

I kind of like the skills competition, but otherwise it’s a yawner.
Yeah, the skills comp was more fun than the actual game the next day.
that gal flying in the fastest skater was interesting. she was really moving in the turns with that unorthodox jump trot technique. i’m not sure she ever crossed her skates.
Yeah, weird but effective. She has some wheels.
McDavid was amazing in that. Holy shit is that a perfect stride!
An acquaintance of mine teaches in Nebraska and he found out today that one of the nearby universities is bringing Biden in for a forum. Bringing in a Dem former v-p is not surprising. What she (& I) find amusing is that he’s being brought in to speak at a Global Leadership Forum. Leadership and Biden?
He should be a guest commentator on Roosh’s podcast.
“How to be a player and get away with it.”
He leads from behind.
He is a leader in the field of creepy interaction with women that don’t want it…
Oh Chicago, never change.
http://www.fox5ny.com/news/people-robbed-of-coats-at-gunpoint
This made me laugh. It reminds me of when there were muggings happening at the 606 park (entirely funded by federal dollars). Yuppies said “this is what happens in a big city. You can’t let it deter you.” while natives were saying “OK. Don’t go to the 606 park at night”. There is a reason why criminals choose to rob and mug in Lincoln Park rather than Jefferson Park. The stupidity of victims is a big reason.
I started seeing those everywhere starting last winter. Had no idea people were dropping that much on a coat.
From each according to his abilities, to each according to their needs…
Now cough up that coat or I will ventilate your ass.
This is ultimately self-defeating.
https://www.mindingthecampus.org/2019/01/27/the-feminist-mission-to-undermine-heterosexuality/
Feminism may have been very successful at altering policy, but they’ve completely jumped the shark with this nonsense. Most women still like having sex with men. Most men still like having sex with women. All this is going to do is cause feminism to implode.
Let’s not be so hasty. Women should absolutely feel free to experiment. Publicly, too. Really flout those stuffy heteronormative conventions in the faces of men everywhere.
The problem is it is never the ones you want to see experimenting who do

You’ve never been to Berkeley, have you? One of the two always looks like a dude and the other one attempts, and usually fails, at trying to be feminine.
The reality is that this insanity is contained to the West. More and more, I agree with Paglia that we will fall to the barbarians as a result.
You need only look at Europe to see it in action.
Hello! Good morning!
I was gonna ask y’all a question about something, but I can’t remember.
So, hello! Good morning!
I’m not sure, but the answer was either: “Fuck off slaver” or “You know who else had eye’s bigger than his stomach?”
Good morning.
Napoleon?
Don’t worry, I’m sure we would have provided contradictory answers. We are an unruly lot after all.
NO, WE WOULDN’T HAVE

Most women still like having sex with men.
Harlots!
Does that include those who are wives? Asking for a friend.
A friend that is a wife?
Near the front was Evelin Servin, a 25-year-old kindergarten teacher from Monterey, who wore a sweatshirt printed with a photo of Harris during a Senate hearing, her eyebrows raised in a skewering skeptical stare.
“It means so much for my students every day for them to see someone in high office who looks like them,” Servin said. “I have a lot of confidence in her.”
I HIGHLY doubt a 5 year old can grasp the concept of government or an elected representative. Also, her students look like middle aged hags? How long have they been held back?!
“It means so much for my students every day for them to see someone in high office who looks like them,” Servin said. “I have a lot of confidence in her.”
Sure, but if the Cheetos kid came to class with a MAGA hat, he’d be called the face of hatred.
“It means so much for my students every day for them to see someone in high office who looks like them”
Insert Jennifer Lawrence “OK” gif here.
Children who vote for abusive parents teach our children
The fact that people take a quote like that as something profound instead of laughable is telling.
I think Triumph the Insult Comic Dog should do all political interviews.
Just realized I hadn’t heard my boss sigh in a month until just this minute.
Picture Seb Gorka’s doppelganger, constantly exasperated.
I always had good managers… also they organize wine tastings in the office which is always fun
“It means so much for my students every day for them to see someone in high office who looks like them,” Servin said. “I have a lot of confidence in her.”
Maybe some day she’ll teach her students what “non sequitur” means.
Did she miss last week’s memo from MLK that people should be judged by their character and not how they look?
Probably not, since that part seems have fallen by the wayside.
Er… “Probably
not,”My boss, a retail manager, doesn’t know what opportunity costs are. I am just the low life donation attendant. How the fuck do I dumb my self down to the level of management? ( Only partly rhetorical)
Please God, aSodom and Ghamora this place.
What makes the “learn to code” meme dumb is the fact that journalists have shown themselves to be very unoriginal thinkers and unimaginably stupid. How in the world could a bunch of Ivy League pampered kids learn anything of value? They view that as degrading.
The only people that I still know with multiple marketable skills tend to be blue collar workers. White collar workers are largely useless outside of the single sliver of training that they learned to perform a single specific task. I have more faith in coal miners learning to weld or code than I do a bunch of college graduates learning anything concrete.
I say this as one of the white collar workers with few discernible skills outside of one specific task.
I’m blue collar, and I learned code for fun, yes fun. Those synths and lighting rigs aren’t going to program them selves.,
Yup. Blue collar laborers, particularly skilled labor, tend to be well versed in multiple skill sets. My dad was a machinist and could fix just about any piece of machinery, along with understanding plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and welding.
That don’t make men like that anymore, unfortunately
Really?
Lachowsky seems to have stepped into that role pretty convincingly.
Lachowsky is my dad?
Weird, but true.
Really TGA, you should be talking to your mother about this.
I know that people like that still exist, it just doesn’t seem like there are as many of them like there use to be. And then I kind of just got sentimental thinking about how many times when I was a kid my dad got laid off or there was a strike and my dad’s first thought was to start working and the next day he’d have a job already lined up busting his ass. Not a minute went by where he felt sorry for himself or complained about he was given a raw deal.
All he knew was that he had a family to feed and he’d work at McDonald’s before ever accepting government money to support his family. An immigrant who came here with nothing at the age of nineteen, working sixty to seventy hours a week, and I never heard him ever feel sorry for himself. We need more people like that.
They also don’t make systems that are as human friendly anymore either.
Original PC’s had components, (even chips on the motherboard) that could be pretty easily replaced by anyone with some basic skills. Now, with the microscopic nature of chips and circuits, the average joe has no chance. The costs in getting the right equipment is prohibitive.
Huh. Sounds a lot like cars, too.
And don’t even get me started on
Oh c’mon SMD is easy to replace
Yup. Cars are another area this shit has happened. When I was buying beaters back in the ’80s and ’90s I could do a lot of maintenance myself (even as mechanically declined as I am).
Now, my neighbor who works on cars has all sorts of crazy tools just to work on shit.
LOL. My brother-in-law rented a Ford hybrid to visit us this weekend.
It had a dial for the transmission control.
Who the hell thought that was a good idea?
“They also don’t make systems that are as human friendly anymore either.”
That’s because the universe won that war and now outproduces the code developers trying to prevent stupid users from hurting themselves by a ratio that leads to extinction. Stupid always wins..
Except me and people like me…..
yeah but you are sort of old
55 is the new 35, except for my back, and eyes, and hearing……….
WHat?
Looks like if you tweet out that these journous should learn to code, you will get banned. Cause telling these snowflakes the same thing they told other people they looked down on is clearly hate speech.
This. They want to be paid to be opinionated.
I hate coders/developers who only have one trick in their book. Everything they see has to be solved using it.
If you mildly suggest that there is some other tool that is perfect for the problem they go crazy. Even worse is if the better tool is some old busted technology like perl. Holy Shi-ite!
I’ll also be hypocritical and rant about developers (I’m looking at you Javascript fan bois) who leap at any new framework that is posted to Github. They never seem to realize that the new framework may solve an old issue, but it will also surely suffer from some new issue.
::hides his collection of awk scripts::
Just try telling your average developer OOP isn’t necessarily the best tool for every job.
*head explodes*
Looks like we need to fire up the HeadFactoryFactory object….
The “learn to code” meme is generally intended tongue in cheek. Media personalities responded to earlier hard times for blue collar workers with suggestions that they retrain for coding or low-level nursing careers. In effect, it’s just throwing it back in their faces.
I know. But, if we’re being serious, journalists are too useless to learn any valuable skill
True. But, I don’t think it’s intended as serious, so much as a giant “fuck you” to the journalists’ demands for sympathy.
That’s why they went into journalism..
to be fair coding is not that hard
If you are a journalist and believe that anything beyond providing your “hot takes” is beneath you, it can be very hard
This is how you troll.
To journalists? I haven’t coded since the days when it was called programming, but isn’t coding really just two skills. 1. learn a language 2. be able to think about what you want to accomplish logically step by step? Do journalists show any signs of either skill?
Sure they do:
Do FixProblem
If Problem = ‘NotFixed’ then
Invoke BlameRepublicans
You forget If Problem =”Fixed” Do CreateProblem goto 1
How in the world could a bunch of Ivy League pampered kids learn anything of value? They view that as degrading.
The thought of subjugating themselves to the “market” for voluntary exchanges of goods and services, in other words producing only that which is demonstrably of use to others, is horrifying. It’s a thousand times worse than sexual prostitution.
Where is the evening post? This is an outrage
I concur.
*flips keyboard & storms off*
I’m sure when evening comes along, they will post the links. It is only mid-day, aren’t you jumping the gun a bit?
He is in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Europastan. (I think..)
It’s 945 in the morning?
19 45 you mean, according to my laptop
Pie disappearing behind iron curtain….
dunno but all my life I had 24 hour clocks not 12 so I am used to it this way. Not in casual conversation though. I mean the time shows 19 45 but people still say quarter to 8
I meant 1945 AD joke, not Commies use 24 hour time joke. I use 24 hour time.
But Pie WAS raised by commies, so the 24 hour system has that going against it.
I am surprised they didnt use decimal time.
Fix you computer, is it in the military?
24 hour time makes more sense.
Only in the military, otherwise use ‘Murican time!!¡!
“Murican time:

And in doing support for anything that needs to run for 24 hours. Hell, I’d be willing to just use GMT if I could get the people reporting problems to use it. I can’t count the number of issues I get reported with the user saying something like, “It started happening at about 7.”
AM or PM? And what time zone are you in? This is for a world wide company (and this year I learned that Puerto Rico is in a different time zone then the rest of the continental US).
I warned you people that things would be wonky for the next week with SP out of the editing/scheduling loop. Now you have Sloopy, Brett, and SugarFree doing it, guaranteeing chaos.
We shall embrace the chaos . . . . and bitch all the same, because we are GLIB!
Where is the evening post?
It went out of business.
Judges rule that answer acceptable. Also acceptable would have been “It isn’t Saturday”
I just assumed the 9th circuit filed an injunction.
I don’t think it’s intended as serious, so much as a giant “fuck you” to the journalists’ demands for sympathy.
It’s basically an updated version of “Let them eat cake.”

Actually the lawyers we have here are probably quite handy in the ways of Manly work, except elspeth?

I guess if you’re going to go after the envy vote, you go right for the jugular. This is how you get the Jacobins or the Bolsheviks.
But she is sure she’ll be holding the clipboard. Not lined up against the wall.
Alternatively, she could say that he should build his own damn stadium, but I guess that would make too much sense.
It would just be inconvenient for her as a politician.
He can’t build the stadium now, too much wealth trapped in a building when he needs to pay the Warren tax.
while i enjoy watching the skins wallow in their own crapitude, i’m rooting for Danny Boy here.
Liz of the Fauxhicans is such a nasty woman.
I could go along with Warren’s wealth tax. With one stipulation. If, in any year, economic growth falls short of 2%, anyone who was forced to pay the tax gets to kick Elizabeth Warren in the crotch once for every million dollars they paid.
There’s got to be some sort of downside for the politicians who proposed these insane laws.
There’s got to be some sort of downside for the politicians who proposed these insane laws.
There usually isn’t until the revolt.
There is a reason the absolve themselves of the horrible shit they inflict on the serfs. See Obamacare…
Wow. I too am…I mean, fan is a strong word…a person who watches Redskins games, and I hate Dan Snyder with a burning passion. He’s the worst thing to happen to the team, full stop. On the other hand, Warren is a dishonest scumbag who plays the class warfare scam like a pro, and it’s people like her who give politicians such bad names. If they could fight a duel above an active volcano and somehow both topple in, that would work for me.
“a person who watches Redskins games, and I hate Dan Snyder with a burning passion. He’s the worst thing to happen to the team, full stop.”
Yup. Worst thing that happened to that team. Ever. He is so fucking hell bent on buying a Superbowl title that he has basically screwed the team into not being able to win while he is the owner.

Way too fast — vertical and horizontal.
I was wondering why they didn’t get waved off by the tower… Someone should have seen they were coming in too fast (even for this sort of weather) and losing altitude too fast. They hit so hard that the freaking plane bounced up then cracked in 2. That’s insane.

meh while there is evidence fried food aint good for you most of this epidemiological studies cannot be taken seriously.
After taking account of potentially influential factors such as lifestyle, overall diet quality, education level and income, the researchers found that regularly eating fried foods was associated with a heightened risk of death from any cause and, specifically, heart-related death: those who ate one or more servings a day had an 8% higher risk compared with those who did not eat fried food – all this adjustment for various factor is often statistical modeling bullshit
Don’t forget that most of the “lifestyle, overall diet quality” type info is self-reported by study participants, and therefore not likely to be rigorously vetted.
So a classic example of that is the data on stuff like the effects of maternal alcohol consumption. There’s a lot of disagreement among doctors as to how much alcohol is safe to drink during pregnancy, and it’s because the information about fetal alcohol syndrome comes from positive cases where the infants are diagnosed and the mother is self-reporting alcohol consumption during pregnancy. The problem is that someone who’s going to drink a fifth of vodka a day while pregnant is not going to volunteer that information in most cases, especially when they’re talking about it in the context of a birth defect they’ve caused in their baby. So they’re going to say, “maybe one or two drinks a day” or whatever seems to be the socially acceptable answer. Then that’s getting associated with FAS. As time passes and those results get out, there’s pressure on women who really do only have a glass of wine or whatever a day to underreport.
Someone should tell these progs this is a reason we need to control everything women do so we can make sure they are doing the right things, and see what kind of cognitive discord results.
“During this time, 31,588 deaths occurred, including 9,320 heart-related deaths 8,358 cancer deaths and 13,880 from other causes.”
“other causes”….choking on a chicken bone, amirite ?
So if I want to live longer, I should eat more fried chicken. See I can learn.

That happens here about every 5 years or so. It’s beautiful in its own nasty way.
I’ll take 12 inches of snow over 1 inch of ice any day.
I remember one day in Missouri (where my mom lived), there was had an ice storm. Her street was very sloped, and the dog from the house next door (up the hill) slid down into our yard and couldn’t get back. The dog’s owner came down to retrieve her dog and she almost couldn’t get back to her house — she had to crawl on her hands and knees over the ice, grabbing whatever she could to pull herself up. My car was outside and iced shut — I couldn’t pull hard enough on the door handles to get in. Fortunately, it was a hatch-back and I was able to pry that open and climb into the car from the back, then push the side doors open.
Why is it that I can’t find a graph breaking down how compensation is calculated anywhere in this study? It’s an immediate assumption that the reason is sexism, and that the answer is to just pay women the same as men (and then they probably will demand they be paid the same as the highest paid guy). Did anyone break down the men’s pay?
These people despise a meritocracy of any kind, because they hate any system that rewards competence AND hard work. It is the one thing that I find socialists absolutely hate the most.
hard work is a social construct
Of course they do. Competent, determined, moral, hard working successful people cannot be conquered and enslaved.
Everything they do is aimed at destroying those qualities in society and the individual.
Taxes – destroy people’s ability to accumulate wealth
Environmentalism – destroy people’s ability to create wealth
Tranny/gay rights – destroy the family
Abortion – destroy the family
Feminism – destroy the family and masculine qualities
Equality – destroy the competence of institutions
The welfare state – destroy individualism/independence
Identity politics – divides society against itself by stoking hatred of the other, it really is just unbridled bigotry
Nationalization – destroys property rights
etc, etc.
Everything they champion is calculated to make you smaller and weaker. The most stunningly blatant attack on merit I have ever seen is “If you have a small business, you didn’t create that. Someone else made that happen.”
I dont mean that any of those causes are bad in and of themselves, I mean that they are all used as Trojan Horses to advance the left’s agenda. Taxes can never be entirely avoided, every person should be equal in the eyes of the law, we should not trash the environment, abortion is sometimes a necessary evil, I am not a proponent of completely removing some kind of safety net or soft landing for people who meet with tragedy or unfortunate circumstances, so on. On that list only nationalization and identity politics are undiluted evil.
And I forgot the two most important: the campaigns against the 1A and 2A.
I would add feminism and equality as used by progs to evil
The problem with admitting that those causes have some value is that then you get into a “haggling over the price” argument. As a more classical liberal I think the Rahn* curve is about right but the arguments don’t make much headway with the FEELZ group.
https://www.economicshelp.org/blog/447/economics/the-rahn-curve-economic-growth-and-level-of-spending/
This this this. Once you scratch the pretty paint off of any prog “principle” it exposes one of three things: envy, anti-capitalism, or hatred for tradition.
They don’t seem to acknowledge that even the small level of inequity in pay that seems to exist is due to choices people make.
I want to try this.

Since I missed the boat earlier on the Challenger where-were-yous….I was in fourth grade. The entire school was watching the launch on TVs in the multipurpose room. Because of the Christa McAuliffe first-teacher-in-space thing, we had done a lot of shuttle-related stuff in school in the preceding weeks. I remember cheering when the thing first took off, several seconds of dead silence when it exploded, and then the teachers jumping up to hustle us back to class without answering any questions. I also remember a rumor in class that someone saw people ejecting with parachutes, because fourth grade students think that’s a plausible thing. I had a basketball game at the local Y that night, which was cancelled.
I was about 6 months into my engineering career.
It was later determined that a bunch of smart dudes got together and made a bad guess.
I had a note on my bulletin board for several years after that.
Decisions have consequences.
That accident is a classic case study in how not to manage engineering teams in a high-risk endeavor.
Of course now NASA is so conservative that I doubt they could get anything off the ground.
I also remember a rumor in class that someone saw people ejecting with parachutes, because fourth grade students think that’s a plausible thing.
IIRC, such a system was investigated, but there weren’t many plausible scenarios where it could be used to save any surviving astronauts. Unfortunately, Challenger was one of those scenarios.
Sophomore year in college and it was ROTC day. I wasn’t surprised it blew up. The fact that it was one of the solid rockets did surprise me.
Eighth grade; I had the day off because of some sort of state-mandated testing for the other grades. The special reported interrupted The Price Is Right and I was irritated.
Mom had one of her screaming fits over the accident. 🙁
Nuthouse, with typewriters
An old but still potent critique has re-emerged in American politics, one that holds concentrated wealth, and perhaps American capitalism itself, as inimical to the democratic society we want to build.
The basic idea holds capitalism as at best an uneasy partner with our democratic values. At worst, it erodes them completely, undermining the social and material basis of republican citizenship as envisioned by the American revolutionaries.
Since the start of the new year, this thinking has become especially prominent. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, came out in favor of high marginal tax rates on the rich, arguing last week that “a system that allows billionaires to exist” while others live in extreme poverty is “wrong.”
This thinking is also present in a new proposal from Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts to tax the nation’s largest fortunes. The plan, which would impose an annual 2 percent wealth tax on fortunes greater than $50 million and a 3 percent tax on ones greater than $1 billion, is geared as much toward protecting democracy as it is toward raising revenue. It’s an attempt to arrest the many types of economic inequality that threaten political equality — the ability of everyone to have something like an equal say in the democratic process.
The politics of envy, theft and hate made America great, and will again. Trust us.
Also, that Jefferson quote, “Whenever there is in any country, uncultivated lands and unemployed poor, it is clear that the laws of property have been so far extended as to violate natural right.” has been popping up a lot, lately. Pure coincidence, I’ll wager.
One thing is clear. They’re not even pretending it’ll work, this time. It isn’t the existence of the poor that they’re claiming damns capitalism. It’s the existence of the rich. They’re pretty much openly saying that it’s worth it to have everyone poor as long as everyone (obviously, except for the political class and their hangers on) is equally poor.
I’m not sure if I should be encouraged or terrified. I’m not sure whether they’ve admitted that the jig is up and they can’t claim it’ll do a damned thing to make anyone better off or if they no longer see the need to pretend.
is geared as much toward protecting democracy as it is toward raising revenue.
It will do neither.
the ability of everyone to have something like an equal say in the democratic process.
You get a vote.
attempt to arrest the many types of economic inequality
Do you know who else?
Sounds like they don’t understand Jefferson.
“Whenever there is in any country, uncultivated lands and unemployed poor, it is clear that the laws of property have been so far extended as to violate natural right.”
I agree. Let’s privatize the national parks.
More:
More than a century later, labor and agrarian radicals would make a version of this observation vis a vis the unjust and unfair arrangements that trapped farmers and industrial workers. For them, the extreme inequality and labor exploitation of the era was simply incompatible with meaningful democratic citizenship, as it left both hopelessly dependent on the owners of capital, corroding American democracy’s basis in the ideal of equal relations between citizens. “Suddenly, without warning, the shop closes down” or the worker “is discharged and his wage, small at best, is cut off. He has to live, the rent must be paid, the wife and children must have clothing and food, fuel must be provided, and yet he has no job, no wages, and no prospect for getting any,” wrote the socialist leader Eugene Debs in a fiery 1904 pamphlet, “Unionism and Socialism,” which painted a dire picture of capitalist dependency.
He continued: “Is a worker in that position free? Is he a citizen? A man? No! He is simply a wage slave, a jobholder, while it lasts, here today and gone tomorrow.” Channeling the founders, Debs held independent material security as a precondition for individual liberty. “No man is free in any just sense who has to rely upon the arbitrary will of another for the opportunity to work,” he had written in 1900. As Debs saw it, if we are deprived as workers, then we cannot truly act as citizens.
The ideal of equal relations between citizens? Whose ideal was that? And how does that manifest itself in the Constitution?
It’s fun to talk about “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” as long as you don’t pretend there was some sort of guarantee, express or implied, of success. I have a notion the Founders would have trussed Bouie up and bundled him off to Bedlam if he had started yammering about this stuff to them. And not because he’s black.
“No man is free in any just sense who has to rely upon the arbitrary will of another for the opportunity to work,” he had written in 1900.
Had it not been attached to politics of envy, this sentiment would’ve been rightly dismissed as the jaded rantings of an agricultural luddite.
The NYT really is pushing socialism (sorry, “democracy”) harder than at any time I can remember.
Given that they put a unabashed, outspoken racist/misandrist on their editorial board, I don’t expect anything other than insanity from them.
“No man is free in any just sense who has to rely upon the arbitrary will of another for the opportunity to work,”
So you aren’t free unless you can subjugate your fellow man. Or am I misinterpreting the practical meaning here?
All I’m hearing is “work sucks”. We need to simply pool all the money and divide it equally. Then nobody has to work and everybody is happy.
It’s a Marxist reinterpretation of “freedom” through a class-conscious lens. IOW, it’s a fishing expedition looking for oppression.
You mean like having to get an occupational license?
You’re not free unless you’re free to screw up.
Let’s at least agree to not miss our bus.

So very very far OT: Got a guilty verdict today. It sucks. Client testified, and I am not sure it helped him at all . . . as the judge withdrew the “self defense” jury instruction after he did that. “Self Defense”was in the instructions before – then was withdrawn. Bah, I wouldn’t have even picked a jury if 1. prosecutor hadn’t told me they’d withdraw misdemeanor DV, and charge DV felony instead as it was a technical third; and 2. there would have been a slightly better offer than “as charged.” The “as charged” offer tells me this was a policy case and I’d never get a lesser offer. I have to say my client took it like a champ.
That sucks, sorry.
Best I can do next is trying to lessen any jail time he gets.
