Q: I am a cis woman in my mid-50s who’s been in a really nice relationship for about five years with a man my age. He grew up in a very stifling, fundamentalist family and later became the father in a similar family. When we met, he was recently divorced and beginning to discover the rest of the world. We have had a terrific five years, filled with exploration and honesty, and it has been refreshing. I genuinely love him. Recently, he has expressed his wish to begin dressing as a woman. Apparently this has been a long-buried interest that he felt unable to explore; I am very happy for him. We’ve shopped for clothes, laughed about the ridiculousness of makeup and heels, and found some venues where he feels comfortable going out all dressed up. Walmart day 2:
Thrown in the pool, I needed to learn as I worked, the minimal amount of training possible.
It got simple fast, so of course they put me on my normal schedule 4am -1pm, meaning a 12 hour turn around, but then my time doesn’t change, we are CAP, no vests, all fresh food, fast and friendly,

Dang, that’s a brutal schedule. A good friend of mine worked a similar shift at a wastewater treatment plant for a while. They say you get used to it, but he begged to differ.
My last year of college (15 credit hours each semester), I worked full time 10p to 6a at a convenience store.
What I learned was that there are 24 hours in a day.
I love it, I’m usually awake around 330 or 4 , and I like day drinking.
Best part is CAP is a permanent, full time position, and because fresh, it never changes,unnlike the rest of the workers

I’m a little baffled by some peoples’ lax attitude towards time. This woman at my work would roll in at about 8:45 or 9:00 AM every single day. I just assumed that her start time was 9. Turns out her start time is 8:30, and she’s just late every single day.
Then at my old factory job, people would treat disciplinary points like vacation days. You’d hear them in the break room rationalizing it: “Well, I have 10 points now, and you don’t get fired until you have 16, so I can call in two more times. I think I’ll take tomorrow off!” The funny thing is that when the recession hit in 2007/2008, the company took the opportunity to fire all the people who had been riding at 14 or 15 points for months.

Damn. Even when I had brass balls on eating hot food (e.g., eating “Thai hot”), I’d be careful of ghost peppers. Treating that like Tabasco is like treating ketchup like habanero sauce. It won’t end well.
The story I heard was the person didn’t listen to the warnings about the heat level. Poured it all over his food, took one bite, and then ran away to get a jug of milk. He then came back 20 minutes later, with a wet shirt that had milk stains on it.
On Thanksgiving, my dad decided to grind some of the smoke ghost pepper flakes I had on the table, without asking what it was (and ignoring the warnings on the jar). I laughed at that, and gave him his own jar for Christmas. I did prevent my nephews from putting it on each other’s food (they’re under 10, they shouldn’t burn themselves that badly yet).
I forgot that the homemade hot sauce at the local Mexican restaurant is exceedingly hot. I out it on the first taco like Tabasco. My nose didn’t stop running for 15 minutes, and my stomach is still unhappy.
A local taco place had a ghost pepper salsa that was awesome. They got rid of that and replaced it with a Carolina Reaper sauce. I was there during the time frame they poured the Reaper sauce on the tacos. I made it through one and a half of them before I had to tap out. The girlfriend tasted a drip on a tine of a spork and was crying. They have since stopped serving it on the tacos, it’s now a sauce on the side only.

I went to a collectibles convention when I was a wee lad of maybe eleven. There was a door raffle. One of the prizes was a signed 7 of 9 poster. Ha! I kinda have a soft spot for those teams as I love underdogs. It comes from growning up an SF Giants fan in the 80’s. Plus Chief Wahoo is frickn awesome.
The Indians have stopped selling Wahoo anywhere outside of Northeast Ohio as of this year. And I don’t think you can top being an Indians’ fan in the 80’s (I had a relative play for them at the time). Two years ago, the odds were 215:1 for the Browns, and 10:1 for the Indians. Last year it was 50:1 for the Browns, and 9:1 for the Indians. Based on the play this year, if either are close to 10:1, I’ll throw $10 at them to win.

So free trade and immigration are good right? However they are driving the growth of urban areas that vote for statist politics. How do libertarians explain this result?
I have no idea what those libertarian types think, but I’ll tell you this:
Free trade is good because it’s voluntary. The other option is forced trade or forced refusal of trade. Yeah, there’s degrees of force. To the precise extent that you use force do you lose both the high ground and the pragmatic benefits of a voluntary market.
As for immigration, I’m not a open borders type. I believe that there should be a barrier to entry and we have a right to screen and sometimes deny entrant to our country. I just think it should way easier and cheaper to immigrate here. I see no reason to exclude based on wealth or skill sets. Exclusion should be based on obvious and undeniable threats, like invasion, criminal records or communicable disease. There’s no good reason my gardener should face deportation, even if he gets a DUI.
I don’t care if that drives growth of prog strongholds. You do what’s right, no matter what. Most of the time it pays off. In the case of urban progs, well, if the constitution was better written, it’d protect our rights from their meddling votes. Maybe there’s no way to create a constitution that will stop the creeping authoritarians. Ours seemed like it should have worked, but it clearly hasn’t. Either way, every chance I get, I’ll do what’s right and let the chips fall.
I think the problem with constitutions is that at the end of the day, it’s just an old piece of paper. No matter how well written it is, it still has no innate methods with which to enforce itself. It’s entirely dependent on a culture that recognizes it as the supreme law of the land. If a significant portion of voters stop giving a shit about what it says, nothing will happen to politicians who violate it, and the result will be a political culture that freely violates it (but conveniently busts it out as an cudgel when it happens to justify something they want to do).
A culture that respects individual rights is the key to liberty, and… I’m not sure how to get to that point and stay there. That’s the tricky part.
