And irony of ironies, this afternoon I have to fly back to the frozen North for week, sticking SP with unpacking and sorting duties. I will count myself lucky if I’m still married when I get back. Yesterday, we wandered into various venues in our new community and are in a bit of culture shock. Our last home in Illinois was in a heavily immigrant and second generation Mexican area. In Austin, we lived in a heavily Vietnamese neighborhood. Here, we are in the stereotypical Caucasia that people make fun of. At Lowe’s, no-one was named Jorge or DeAndre or Jose, every goddam worker there was named Cayden or Camryn or some shit like that. The spice section of the grocery store was 15 different brands of salt. The Wonder Dog is pure white, so she fits in just fine.
Today is February 10th, and the birthday that has me totally stoked is that of Claude-Louis Navier. But also, let us not forget the great Alan Hale, Sr., Jimmy Durante, Chick Webb, and the guy who was basically the house bassist at my favorite venue during my teen years, Rufus Reid.
On to the news.
Second Amendment under assault, and every right thinking individual thinks this is a good thing. No chance for abuse here, nossir.
In France, protesters continue to protest. When asked what they were protesting, they responded, “I dunno, whaddaya got?”
What the fuck kind of place have we moved to??? Hey, Michelle, let’s see them tiddies!
In Baltimore, murder is just fine, but don’t try trolling.
Actors love to pretend to be science experts. I have to admit that I don’t know many scientists who could act well, so there’s that.
I’ve never heard of a state forcing businesses to remain open, but we live in weird times. Perhaps some important facts were left out? RC Dean, please comment.
And in Old Guy Music, some intersectionality. Birthday Boy Larry Adler playing a piece dedicated to our own Pie.
‘Nuff said. Fuck off, slaver!
I’m disappointed I couldn’t find Gheorghe Zamfir doing a pan flute arrangement of the Romanian Rhapsody.
That is on the secret Romanian youtube

Bake the cake?
Good morning, Ted. I hope y’all are well this morning. I’ve been working my way through all the old Dead End/East Side Kids movies. They are schlocky and fun; Leo Gorcey is awesome..
Not up to the Bowery Boys yet?
I love how James Cagney put them in their place during the shooting of Angels With Dirty Faces.
Haha, nice choice. I thought I was the only one who had seen that. I love old gangster movies.
Fun fact: Angels With Dirty Faces was parodied in Home Alone movies as Angels With Filthy Souls, the movie that Kevin plays at high volume to scare away the burglars.
The logical extension of bake the cake.
Arizona has a large Mormon population (not counting the polygamy community on the border with Utah).
Not only that, the town we’re living in apparently has the largest Mormon population in the state. It did not seem to affect the size of the liquor selection at our local grocery, though, so h/t to them for leaving us that small solace.
“What the fuck kind of place have we moved to??? Hey, Michelle, let’s see them tiddies!”
Wait… what? When did this happen? What town are you living in?
Just outside of Phoenix, eastern burbs. Just got here last Monday.
Ah. AZ is one of the retirement states we’ve started considering. The only one out West, the other 2 states we’re looking at are SC and TN. Big difference climate wise. I like the idea of AZ because it doesn’t get cold and it’s not CA or FL. Hot doesn’t bother me, but seems the older I get, the less tolerance I have for cold. I was walking yesterday here and it was 38F. I was freezing and couldn’t get my fingers warm until I was back in the house.
Florida already had sufficient laws to make Nicholas Cruz ineligible to buy a gun, but they didn’t enforce them.
Shhh… You’re hurting that narrative. Gun rights bad… people who have guns bad, except police. police gooood….
Yep, that is horseshit. The cops had been to see the guy numerous times, knew he was a danger, as did school administrators, family, acquaintances and so on. No one did anything about him or many other local hoodlums because they didn’t want their crime rate to look bad.
Gun grabbers lie.
Not only that, but the cops were complete cowards. The SRO did nothing, the responding cops did nothing, and they didn’t even enter the building until 4 minutes after the shooter had left.
Why is there a picture of Perry Ferrel next to Cuomo?
My kids go to Broward County schools.
All schools will be on “Yellow alert” lockdown for the entire day of the anniversary.
So no recess. No outside visitors (parents, volunteers, etc.).
Limited movement inside the school.
I spend a lot of time with the teachers, including all day at a robotics event yesterday. Most of the teachers I talked to seem to think this is idiotic (particularly the elementary school teachers). Even the more idiotic administration types are of the opinion that it is stupid.
But lots of the parents are on board. Heck, they think they haven’t gone far enough. We have a full time security guard at the elementary school now, and police on site at drop-off and pick-up many days. It makes one suspect that humans have a hard time assessing relative risk.
Feature, not bug. And the kids grow up fearful of the bogeymen.
So for the first time I made fried eggs in you silly American way of flipping them in the pan. I am unconvinced. I find it hard to guarantee they are cooked just right without seeing the top part
Medium heat. Butter in the pan. Crack the egg in the center of the pan. Stand there and watch it cook. After 3 to 4 minutes the top surface of the white will be white and look dry, not runny. Flip the egg real quick and wait about 30 seconds at the longest. Scoop the egg out of the pan and flip it back over onto a plate. Congratulations, you just made the perfect over-medium egg. The white is all cooked and the yolk mostly runny.
It takes a lot of practice to become a true eggspurt.
I usually just put a lid on the pan to cook the top. The traditional Romanian way is to put oil in the pan and use a spoon to baste the top of the egg wth hot oil to cook the whites while leaving the yolk as soft as possible.
Results count so you do what works for you. You are the one who has to eat it.
Substitute appropriate x for eat, and that’s libertarianism in a nutshell, amirite?
My grandfather, father, and father-in-law all make/made eggs in a skillet after frying bacon in it such that the eggs effectively deep-fry in the bacon fat. The effect is similar, plus you get bacon. Also, this is like a once-a-week thing unless you want to keel over of heart disease within a month.
I do that as well. I do drain most of the grease out of the pan first so I can get away with it two or three times a week….huh….my chest hurts for some reason….
I do that every morning, and my heart is just fi
*warms up defibrillator, looks down, shrugs, takes a piece of leftover bacon off the counter, strolls away*
unless you want to keel over of heart disease within a month
This doesn’t prove anything, but I’m related to a ton of folks who made it to 90 by eating things that were deep-fried in lard every day of their lives. No kale, no fish oil: bacon and eggs. I think their magic was they struggled to survived: a sedentary lifestyle wasn’t a choice.
Dad’s dad made it to 84 with intense emphysema; from this I conclude that staring at a mule’s ass for 50,000 hours is the fountain of youth.
I think there’s probably something to that. If you’re doing physical labor every day you’re burning through those calories pretty quickly and you’re working your cardiovascular system out pretty well. It’s like when you see offensive linemen five years after they’ve retired. In their 20s working their asses off every day they can eat 8000 calories a day and still look like they’re just stocky dudes who are strong as hell. Once they’re not pushing a sled every day and don’t have that good youthful metabolism, they look like the fat guy in IT.
Sounds like Marshall Ulrich’s Incinerator Theory. It certainly worked for him.
If you’re not familiar with him, it might be amusing to look him up. Speaking of theories, there’s a theory that everyone has a purpose in life. AFAICT, Marshall is here so I can tell my wife, sure, I run a lot, but hey, it could be worse; look at this guy…
Fat is not evil, even saturated fat. A lot of it gets burned up, especially if you’re doing a ton of heavy weight lifting (or as Naptown Bill mentioned, hard physical labor as was more common in the old days).
Another thing is that a person’s predisposition to cardiovascular disease has a huge genetic component. Some people may get away with that, others may not.
And a lot of new research is showing that sugar is a bigger culprit for CV disease than fat. Too many simple carbs and not enough exercise are the main causes of American obesity in my opinion.
I think there’s a problem with dietary science where you have a set of rules that are taken as conventional wisdom. Some of them are correct and some of them are not. But most people fall into one of two categories: those who follow all health advice, and those who ignore it all. As a result, you’re likely to find a correlation between CV disease and eating fatty steaks, but that doesn’t prove it. The same people who eat fatty steaks are probably the same people who never exercise, eat tons of sugar, drink to excess, and smoke tobacco.
I’d like to see two control groups of people who are on diets of fresh vegetables and wholegrain carbs and exercise regularly, but one group eats red meat while the other group sticks with allegedly healthier options like chicken and fish.
There has been recent research where two groups were studied, one on high-carb, low fat, the other on high-fat, low carb, the big difference this time is that they both ate the exact same number of calories per day. The high-fat group ended up weighing less, with significantly better blood cholesterol and blood triglycerides, IIRC. So it’s not even the number of calories, it’s what the calories come from, and your postulate that sugar is the biggest culprit in today’s widespread obesity, not ‘fatty’ foods, appears to be on target.
Beyond the sugar industry’s influence over research studies 50 years ago that changed the FDA into encouraging high-carb, low-fat, there’s just intellectual laziness on the part of too many experts. “It’s right there in their name — fats! Fats make you fat, no doubt, it must be a direct pass-through from plate to hips!” But it failed to recognize that our bodies are designed to digest food, not just store it. Fats and even cholesterol are broken down when you eat them, and also have the nice effect of making you feel full, so you don’t overeat, which is so easy to do with sugar and starches (which don’t trigger the feeling of satiety as much).
You can almost draw a direct correlation chart from the FDA encouraging high-carb and avoiding fats to the amount of obesity in the US. And yet nitwits like Bloomberg and Mrs. Obama are still out there telling everyone to avoid fats.
re: C. Anacreon
Yup, science (and personal experience) is now suggesting that not all calories are equal. However, science (and PE) is also suggesting that not all carbs are equal (which isn’t surprising, seeing they’re already divided into simple and complex). Furthermore, science (and PE) is also suggesting that not all consumption itself is equal, since your activity level when you eat appears to matter, too.
In normal day-to-day life I eat very little sugar and also avoid other sweeteners. As long as I hew to that, I perceive a lot more sweetness in other things, since my taste buds are calibrated low.
However, when I’m doing “long” (e.g., more than 13.1 miles) and/or “strenuous” (e.g., running with a 40 pound pack) runs, I mix 3 scoops of Tailwind per 20 oz. of water. Tailwind is, for all practical purposes (two kinds (Dextrose, Sucrose) of) pure sugar.
Research is worth reading, but personal experience, assuming one doesn’t kid oneself too much is pretty important too. One big problem, however, is short-term benefits don’t necessarily mean you’re not incurring long-term damage. And that’s hard to measure, period, which definitely complicates the whole “kidding oneself” aspect.
Ballooning in the morning, for example, might increase the chance of not closing tags in the early afternoon.
Bacon in the oven is my preferred way to cook bacon. Crispy outside, soft and melty inside.
I also put a lid on it (with a little water to make steam) to cook the top. Copped that from a short-order cook because I don’t like them over easy.
My mother used to do the baste-in-bacon-grease thing, as per Naptown Bill below.
above*
I do it that way too
Me three.
Or you could just separate the egg and cook the whites… then pour the runny yolk on top after.
STEVE SMITH SPURT ON EGG. HIM EGGSPURT.
There’s a technique, but if you’ve gotten the egg flipped without breaking the yolk, you’re 3/4 of the way there. I find there are two keys to getting the yolk right. First, let the pan get up to temp before adding oil or butter. This will help the bottom set properly. Second, once you’ve done the flip, use the condition of the bottom (now top) to gauge how fast it’s cooking. From there on it’s just like cooking a steak or a hamburger. You’re only flipping once, and you’re trying to time the flip for around 2/3 of the cooking time, not an even split, to make sure it’s even.
I only eat scrambled eggs, with peppers, onions, cheese and hot sauce.
Cook it 90% of the way on one side. The only reason you flip it is to solidify the whites on the top, which takes 30 seconds at most, assuming you still want a soft yolk.
I like my eggs over medium (only half of the yolk soft), so I do it about 75% on one side and then a minute or 90 seconds after the flip.
She had previously retweeted a post from controversial figure John LeFevre who wrote: “@aoc has a 430 credit score, two evictions, and an empty résumé. Just two months ago, she couldn’t afford an apartment in DC. Now, the Democratic leadership has put her on the Financial Services Committee & the media is saying that her Green New Deal will ‘reshape’ the economy.”
“I’m not intellectually bankrupt. You’re intellectually bankrupt.”
Democracy, motherfucker.
Good
and
hard.
She was amusing. Briefly. I’m now sick of hearing about her every fucking day.
Likewise. Can we just stop listening to her, wait no, she’s the new “flavor of the month” why Dems should be in power.
I would love to stop listening to that nutjob. Shame my friends won’t stop fellating her though and like bringing her up all the time. I can’t wait till the Dems eventually find her “problematic” then drop her for the next “flavor of the month”.
Me too!
/Beto
Just tell them she’s as dumb as a box of rocks and apologies to the box of rocks.
That should get them to stop talking about her around you. Of course, that probably includes any communication but you gotta take what you can get.
The Dems aren’t intellectually bankrupt. Bad ideas are still idea, and they’ve got plenty of ’em
To put it another way, they’ve still got plenty of checks in their checkbook.
And SPOOOOOOOOONNNNN!
Yeah, the Green New Deal will reshape the economy alright, that is if complete destruction counts as reshaping.
Goddamned commie assholes.
Didn’t she like memory hole that green new deal thingy from her website? Hopefully someone archived that.
I saw an article where she claimed it was a Republican doc and was a bunch of BS…? I don’t know, I’m confused. And tired of hearing her name.
Yeah, she yanked it from her site (and I believe replaced it with a slightly less crazy version), then said there were a bunch of versions floating around that had been “doctored” in some unspecified way by her enemies (who are obsessed! with her) and oh yeah there was an early draft version that was accidentally uploaded to the site (and left there for a day or so until the mocking became too much). The “early draft version” was also included with the press release that was sent out, but we’re supposed to ignore that.
Some press flak from her office went on Tucker Carlson’s show and said the stuff about giving money to people who were “unwilling to work” was from a “doctored” version. The clip of “Tucker Carlson getting pwned by facts and truth!!!” got passed around by MMFA et al. The guy later admitted it was in the “early draft version” that was “accidentally” uploaded, but that info didn’t get passed around as much for some reason.
I guess now all the Dem presidential candidates who endorsed it immediately will try to tell the moderates that they’re just generally supportive of a lot of the stuff in the less crazy version, while giving a wink to the crazies to let them know they’re down with the crazy stuff. Might not work, though, since I think the left wing crazies might be too crazy to pick up on it and will demand they state explicitly that they’re down with banning cars and planes and cows and giving them free money just because.
Mr. Pool’s got that for you: https://twitter.com/Timcast/status/1094328611031502848
I didn’t know credit scores went that low.
Possible photoshop, pretty low resolution. But at least the hunt continues for nudes and/or videos. AOC crotch shot
I guess the marginalized can afford $2000 MacBooks now.

THE PENIS IS EVIL. – that male tiger was socialized to hate females. Patriarchy is to blame.
Two Southampton fans have been detained by police after apparently mocking the death of Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala, during a match between the two teams on Saturday.

If we don’t put a stop to hooligans mocking, it could lead to jeering and, yes, taunting. You don’t want an uncontrolled outbreak of taunting, do you?!
Florida already had sufficient laws to make Nicholas Cruz ineligible to buy a gun, but they didn’t enforce them.
That’s why we need more.
They were too busy implementing the Obama mandate to reduce minority arrests in school.
The Baltimore Sun hates Europeans. There ought to be a law. Wait a minute! There is a law! GDPR
Everybody hates Europeans. :-p
God Damned Puerto Ricans?
“Parkland would never have happened if Florida had a red flag law,”
That’s one specious statement.
Cuomo is such a left-wing jackass. Infanticide good. Guns. bad. He’s more a murderer than anyone with a gun.
I freely admit my own assertion can be perceived as specious but it’s probably more true than the claim such laws could have or could prevent Parkland shootings. Over time, killing babies add up to more I would think. I’m open to any criticism of this claim.
I don’t think he is. He is just doing whatever it takes to get (re)elected.
Then let’s go with unprincipled fence sitting opportunist. Dante had a place for people like that in hell.
Shake hands?
*shakes*
Seriously. I don’t think I’ve seen a politician in my life with fewer principles.
As long as his last name remains Cuomo and New York City and Long Island get to vote in New York elections, he’ll get reelected.
I’m now sick of hearing about her every fucking day.
Agreed.
Ditto. At first it was like watching SNL or the Onion, but after a couple of days, the skit got old.
Next we will be hearing how the Green New Deal is really a Republican idea endorsed by Heritage Foundation and plugged in Massa. by Romney. Typical “ask for the stars and settle for the moon” Fabian tactics.
It’s instructive and useful. Every day she is announcing outrages and, hopefully, a million discussions are arising about what works. For me the sad part is that this is seldom a gentle and patient discourse: just insults and bypassing. But it should foment a national moment of critical thinking: why will the ejaculation de jour will not work. For example, I understand there is (she has) some proposed policy to do X by Y (there always is). I love these and often ask people to weigh a political action item in contrast to this one:
All cars in the US shall be red by 2030. That’s such a simple policy, but yet it’s nearly impossible and at least expensive and inconvenient. Who would comply? What tactical rules would be required? How could industry respond to it even if they wished to . . . and how long would it take? How would markets respond . . . what would people really do? What sophistries would arise to undermine and argue around it (yes, but that’s a truck and orange is red enough)? What course of legal action would restrain and delay even the practical beginning of the project supposing it were signed into law?
From the gunz-grabberz article:
‘Mike Heal, police chief in the town of Aztec, responded to the shooting at the local high school and testified in support of the red flag proposal, saying, “I know I cannot keep everyone safe, but give me the tools to try.”’
Translation: I and many of my fellow members of law enforcement are traitors to our own countrymen, the constitution, and the rule of law. Give us the power via arbitrarily defined terms to go all Gestapo on your ass for thought crimes.
*puke*
I read it more along the lines of:
“My fellow government employees and officials have fucked up royally from the bottom to the top, you must reward us for our failures because this is all someones else’s fault.”
Hey man, those officers cowering by their cars won’t feed themselves you know?
Let them starve.
I’m not sure which scenario is worse. Either way, same result.
Everyone time someone in government says “tools”, someone should interrupt them with “powers”. A hammer is a tool. A chain saw is a tool. What they want is POWER and AUTHORTY. It is time to start calling out these euphemisms.
Oh yeah: videotape the results and post them to Youtube.
Lonewacko!!!!!
I’m disappointed I couldn’t find Gheorghe Zamfir doing a pan flute arrangement of the Romanian Rhapsody.
For some reason, that sent me in search of this.

If they only had guns they probably wouldn’t need to be protesting.
The Arizona thing is weird. They can do that?
I assume it has something with receiving permission from the state to open a healthcare facility and being shielded from competition by them.
^This^
Regulatory capture is not functionally all that different from single payer, quality wise. Two different flavors of shit.
See, that’s the part that’s missing if it’s the case. But since we have an expert here, when he recovers from his drunken stupor, Mr. Dean will no doubt fill in the blanks.
Jeebus. Gimme a minute. Plus, tablet, not real keyboard. Which would be too loud anyway.
I assume it has something with receiving permission from the state to open a healthcare facility and being shielded from competition by them.
The state should take it over, and show everybody what a well run system looks like.
Like the VA?
You sure know how to upset an old guy after he’s already had his microwaved oatmeal, don’t you?
Of all the things pissing me off about that gun seizure story, the effortless transition from, “because some nutjob killed a bunch of other people” to “we will now come steal your guns if we think you might hurt yourself” is probably the worst.
NOT SAME.
Oh you tiresome glibertarians, nattering on about self-ownership.
Well, yeah. There are slavers everyday your humble FOS has to go tell Fuck Off
What you did there, I saw.
It was quite the fluid pun.
They have to be parceled out carefully.
A few weeks before the last election the Sheriff wrote letters to everyone plugging his idea to put cops in the schools. They had just thwarted a planned (who knows if they really would have done it?) school shooting. It shocked everyone because this is the last place you would expect something like that. The parish wanted more taxes because they wanted extra deputies. Mind you, this sheriff is a good one and very good on gun rights but he is off the mark here.
I think that is a bad, bad idea. Arming random teachers is a good approach. It seems to me a school shooter would just seek out and shoot the deputies while they had the drop on them. if it is a random teacher that is armed and no one knows who that is…my guess is that school shootings would drop to ZERO. How often do you see cop bars, police stations, gun shows, gun stores etc attacked? Practically never. Shooters seek out gun free zones. They might be completely nuts but they aint that stupid. C’mon, this isnt rocket science.
You’re just asking for random teachers to become unprofessional RAMBOs who will only kill our kids! /s
Jokes aside, I agree and I also prefer your idea. Letting teachers be armed and able to defend their students and themselves will go a long way.
We always had guns in schools when I went. From grade school through high school there were teachers, bus drivers, coaches, principles and a guidance counsellor that had guns. They didn’t bring them for that reason. It never occurred to us in those days that anyone would shoot up a school. They were hunters and hunted before and after school so they just brought their guns with them to work. No one thought a thing about it.
I had a school bus driver that would sometimes have a pile of ducks on the floor of the bus when he would pick us up. Sometimes in the afternoons he would give some of the poorer kids a few ducks when they went home.
That’s awesome, I wish my schools were like that.
I took gun safety training in the elementary school gym. It was always held just a few weeks before hunting opener, so it was cold, and they wanted it indoors.
NRA safety course for us, 6th grade. We got to shoot skeet on the playground at the end of the course.
Same, ended with skeet outside, on school grounds. I don’t think they do that anymore.
Even my suburban Chicago high school had a rifle team when I attended in the mid-1970s.
And kids would bring their rifles to school with them. No one blinked an eye. And everyone lived happily ever after.
Don’t need to arm teachers even. Just stop prohibiting school employees and the public from lawfully carrying as they see fit on school grounds or other named locations (parades in LA is one of my headshakers).
Free speech and all but Plainpotatoess (Baltimore link) sounds like a real asshole and all around terrible human being.
I’d argue it’s because he’s from Baltimore, but some people here might have a problem with that. 😉
There is such a thing as a civic character. I’ve lived in Maryland basically all my life, and even as a child I understood the “Charm City” sobriquet to be intended as irony.
It sounds like he did commit actual crimes. Trespass is not a petty act.
No, it isnt funny to get people bent out of shape. It isnt funny at all.
I watched a Jackass episode where they pretended to leave a baby stroller carrying thingy on top of a car accidentally .
Very old people were trying to chase down the car since they though a baby was on top.
I didn’t think it was funny.
I despise pranks, and that includes sneaking up on someone and startling them.
I hate them too…the biggest furniture breaking teeth knocked out fight I’ve ever seen was two of my best friends from my early twenties getting in a brawl over an escalating series of food-related pranks. Who has time for that nonsense?
/taps Mojeaux on shoulder.
BLACK FACE!
Eeeek! Stuck to ceiling by claws, trembling, all fluffed out.
Did they do anything funny? It was all just, hurt themselves or each other and be assholes to strangers, wasn’t it?
I loathed that fucking show.

Ouch. That is a bad story. The article just says the guy was wanted for selling guns illegally and selling drugs.
Sob stories
Apparently Denver is an expensive place to live. I never would have guessed.
When Kelsey Brown left her teaching job in North Carolina, she hoped things would be better.
She moved to Denver in 2014 and started making well over the $28,000 she had before. One day she realized the extra money wasn’t adding up as much as she had hoped.
“As the years went on, I still have no savings account. I still don’t know where my money is going,” the 31-year-old said.
I’ll bet you don’t.
And there’s this guy:
“We’re not asking for a million dollars,” Bowers said. “We’re asking for an extra $200 to $300 per paycheck so that I can save up so that I can buy a house and live in my community and not jump from house to house.”
For some reason, I suspect he’d still be living paycheck to paycheck if he got a $10,000 per year.
I could be wrong.
But don’t worry. They love to teach. It’s not about the money.
Please excuse me while I play on the world’s smallest violin.
Collectively “we” are asking for al lot more than a million bucks.
But, you already showed math isn’t your strong suit.
I had an employee – a recent immigrant – ask for a raise. I asked her why she should get one. She said because ‘she bought a big house with a pool and the mortgage was expensive’.
She didn’t realize she asked me to subsidize her choices and life-style.
I said no. She eventually quit. Buh-bye.
Beautiful girl though.
All this to say, yeh, sometimes people don’t realize it’s necessarily a revenue problem but a spending one.
+eleventy billion FedGov workers
I get in an argument with my best friend over this from time to time. He maintains that he and his wife can’t save enough money to put a down payment on a house do to the dollar ‘not being what it used to be’ and waxing nostalgic about the good ol’ days when you could raise a family and save for retirement on a single income. I point out that he and his wife make a combined income of about $110k a year in the midwest, rent an overpriced home, dish out about $150 a month for cable and internet, eat out half the week, are making payments on two newer vehicles and spend about $400 a month on weed(I shit you not). I say to him you have all you need to save up for a home, you just refuse to give up any immediate creature comforts in order to do so. He retorts that he shouldn’t have to, like that’s a coherent fucking argument or something, so I just roll my eyes and change the subject.
He wants his cake (weed) and eat (smoke) it too.
Deferred gratification or temporary pain to achieve something is not a strong suit for some.
Others ‘get it’. Another one of my employees doesn’t go out to eat because they’re saving for a house.
I don’t eat out much because I want to retire some day.
Eating out = ten times the money for half of the quality
Yes, these days I eat out rarely but when I do it is high end restaurants that are excellent and offer an experience.
I’ve never had a steak in a restaurant better than what I make at home. Close, yes – sometimes.
Yep. I started working on my cooking skills around 2009, and even a few months later, I was turning out things that are far better than anything from a restaurant. It’s only gotten better from there.
Restaurants are suited to cranking out the same exact recipe again and again at very high speed. They are great when you are away from home or just don’t feel like cooking, but their food can’t compare with something that gets individual attention. Time is another factor; great food just takes time to prepare. Not everything can be on the table within 15 minutes.
While true 90% of the time, there are exceptions, especially if you’re cooking for one or two. My regular hangout has a prime rib dinner on Fridays, $14.99 I can’t compete with that.
>While true 90% of the time, there are exceptions, especially if you’re cooking for one or two. My regular hangout has a prime rib dinner on Fridays, $14.99 I can’t compete with that.
Yeah I don’t cook breakfast on workdays. So if I want to make a full breakfast on the weekend, I have to get up, cook it, clean up, and then I have leftover breakfast food I don’t really eat.
Much easier to wake up, get dressed, go to one of the great local places and drink and eat my fill.
Plus ethnic food. I don’t keep the spices and equipment to make certain kinds of ethnic food.
But one thing I will say, I will never go out to a steakhouse ever again. I can sous vide and get a perfect steak for the price of the meat in less time than it takes to go out, order, and eat.
There’s a girl at work who is morbidly obese (got to be pushing 300 pounds, and she’s only about 5’2) and she orders out every single day.
That’s the other problem with eating out, portions are too large, which makes it harder for me to eat a proper amount.
I just had the “delayed gratification” talk with my high-school son the other day.
Pointed out how I often had to miss parties and fun things when I was young because I had to study, then later was stuck in medical school while all my college friends had jobs and could afford to do things I couldn’t. But once all the delay was over, it was worth it, and there was a lot more income security being a physician than most other jobs. So there’s a lot of good outcomes possible by being patient and focusing now.
Of course, he just looked at me as if I’d come from Mars. Don’t I know things are different these days?
Geez dad, it’s like all you have to do is make an app and Zuckerberg buys you for a bazillion dollars.
Right, cause that single income family he’s nostalgic for never had to give up anything. Back in the 90s I worked for a construction company operating several sites in different states. They offered health insurance subsidized by the company. $40 a month for single policy. Most of those guys made about $600/week take home, not gross. Paid weekly, they claimed the health insurance was too expensive. They got paid on Friday and we’re broke by Monday.
“…paid on friday…broke by monday.”
There is a reason that 100 to 150 years ago factories paid workers low wages and had long hours. If they paid the workers too much or too often they would disappear until they had drunk it all.
The company deliberately paid on Friday because once they were broke, they showed back up to work. At one time, they paid on Wednesday, and workers wouldn’t show up until Monday (but we’re broke by Friday night). Really.
“…he shouldn’t have to…” = “Waaaaah. Reality isnt what I wish it was. Math sucks.”
Have fun with that. Wife and I make less than they do. Our house, a pretty nice one, is almost paid for. Both of our cars are paid for. We eat well. I never lay awake at night wondering how we are going to pay our bills. Fuck that guy.
Suggestion for new Iron Law: Most of the misery in the world is self inflicted.
*ponders*
Lemme think on that one. There’s something there, no question.
I know a guy with similar complaints. Single income family and he made something like $150k last year. Complains about money then buys a new car. Complains about money again and then spends $200 on beef alone every time he has people over, because when he says “a few people over for a barbecue” he means “sous vide two briskets and a rack of ribs”. Buys a townhouse because he wants to save money, then buys a camper and has to rent space to park the camper.
We’re surrounded by that type out here. $170k salary. $4k mortgages, leased late model cars, extravagant vacations, eating out at nice restaurants 4x a week. Don’t know where the money goes. Broke before the next paycheck comes. Usually complaining about how single income families are a relic.
We also know people in the same area making $55k single income, but they’re making it work and putting a bit away for kids’ college and for their retirement. They don’t decry the high COL out here half as much as the people making 6 figures.
Hell, I live on a wage that has been referred to as a “starvation wage” that nobody could possibly live on, yet I own a modest-sized house in a good part of town and eat steak on a regular basis.
Wow, so you moved from NC to Denver for a teaching job and, as it turns out, the extra money was offset by the higher cost of living? It’s not just that schools in Denver really, really like teachers, lady, but you’d know that if you’d spent ten minutes using your cat meme viewer to look into real estate prices, grocery stores in the area, pretty much anything.
You expect a teacher to do basic research? Shitlord!
Living like a pauper for many years in grad school has served me well. I got used to scraping by and when I got a real job, I didn’t really alter my lifestyle. I had enough money for a down payment in no time. I’m still trying to save at least 40% of my income because I’d like to retire sooner rather than later. My only luxury is guns.
Also, Denver sucks and is way overpriced.
And these are the people “teaching” kids. I’d fire every one of them on the spot for what they’re saying in that article.
They are describing the lifestyle of me and every single person I knew in our 30s. I don’t remember all the sob stories in the media. Must be a generational thing.
Sorry to comment on a dead part of the thread, but I love that Brown was a NC teacher. Since the pubs took control of the NC legislator in 2010 they been messing with teacher pay and other aspects of education (not enough effort obiliterating the counties’ central education office staff though). So it’s been 10 years of all OUR teacherzzzz are leaving in the media and ads.
Dummy doesn’t understand cost of living.
I used to hear this at work from my nurse coworkers. Omg our pay is so low, but NYC pays xxx000 a year. I said yea then you got union dues, taxes, and housing. You’ll be in the same boat or worse
There response was n’uh I’m still gonna be rich
still don’t know where my money is going
It’s called a budget. It’s what people do when they want to know where their money is going.
For some reason, I suspect he’d still be living paycheck to paycheck if he got a $10,000 per year.
Imagine that sentence ends with “raise”.
I like how you Brooksed your own comment. Very meta.
He Brookses *everything*
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be Brooks.
To illustrate my contention the other day when I said a NoDak winter is more deadly than a Florida (or anywhere in the South) summer.
Teen recovers after near-death hypothermia experience
This kid was either on something or a complete moron…or both. And is it just me, or in the picture does it look less like he’s “showing his bandages” and more like he’s flashing “gang” signs?
“Seymour said he left a friend’s house early that night wearing only his Converse sneakers, thin joggers and a hoodie. The temperature was about 18 degrees below zero.”
Ok then.
I’m thinking both.
Well, TBF, life in general is dangerous when you’re that stupid.
“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” – Samuel Clemens
Very true.
The first word (teen) in the article explains everything.
I was randomly browsing youtube and came across an old video of Jordan Peterson at McMaster University. Wow, honestly, I am amazed at how well he was able to keep his cool and save frame with all the insanity going on around him. I wasn’t really big on him before but I started checking out more of his lectures after that.
Peterson is a snake.
I thought he was a lobster?
We’re all lobsters, or crab people. I forget which.
So I got crabs from a 5 dollar whore and when I went back to complain she said, “It was 5 dollars! What did you expect, lobster?”
Ha! I read her reply in my head with her speaking in a Southie accent. It’s funnier that way.
I believe you have him confused with Taylor Swift.
Alright, the Hacienda story makes little sense to me. Now, intermediate care facilities aren’t my bag, but the following questions come to mind:
What are the Medicaid agency and the welfare agency doing ordering a facility to stay open? I could see the AG or maybe facilities licensing doing that until Hacienda can arrange transfers to other facilities. But where do third party payers get off with the conclusory statement that transfers will harm patients? A transfer to an equal or higher level of care by definition doesn’t harm the patients.
Hacienda got a third party manager to come in, as ordered, and the manager backed out. Hacienda isn’t allowed to run the facilities and can’t find someone else, so they are actually required to close them, aren’t they? Make up your damn mind, state. First it’s “don’t you dare operate them”, then it’s “don’t you dare close them”.
It’s the state waving its dick and showing who’s boss.
Here is the money shot: “The state is giving Hacienda leaders an ultimatum: Either put in place a third-party manager as the state had directed on Jan. 16, or enter into an agreement with the Arizona Department of Health Services to have licensing authority over the facility, pending legislative action.”
I dont really know what that means. The state doesnt currently have licensing authority? The facility is not licensed? Or is? By whom?
What is clear to me is that the state is extorting the facility for control.
It mentions in the article that there is a “loophole” where intermediate care facilities don’t have to be licensed.
Yeah, I’m not paid to know about ICF licensing, so I don’t.
Confident prediction: shortly after licensing is required for all ICFs, there is an alarming shortage of ICFs. Requiring legislative action, of course.
Of course, how a third party manager and state licensing are substitutable for each other is a mystery for the reader.
Reminds me of a few years ago in California they passed a law saying you couldn’t discharge psych patients from the hospital into an “unlicensed” board and care home. Well, the ‘unlicensed’ B&Cs were the only ones who would take some of the more difficult patients, and once the law passed, the licensed sites could pick from the cream of the crop patients, and the tougher patients had nowhere to go.
Meanwhile, homeless camps in the state skyrocketed. Probably unrelated.
Sunday Slutty Sunday!

4 is more than adequate.
6, 36, 45. Very nice lineup, Mr. Q.
I’ll take me some 6.
Hey, 28 and 35 are the same girl. Alexis Ren my current celebrity crush. What can I say, I like them skinny.
The last one – 45 – epitomizes the things I find sexy. Thicc but not obese, pretty face, dark hair and more melanin than average, wide hips.
“Supporters contend that research shows pornography can be biologically addictive and can lead to extreme and violent sexual behaviors, as well as interest in child pornography.
Udall’s resolution outlines what she describes as the negative impacts of increasing pornography viewership:
Children are being exposed to porn “at an alarming rate” given its widespread availability on the internet, ” leading to low self-esteem, eating disorders and an increase in problematic sexual activity at ever-younger ages.”
It “normalizes violence and the abuse of women and children by treating them as objects, increasing the demand for sex trafficking, prostitution and child porn.”
“Pornography has an adverse effect on the family as it is correlated with decreased desire in young men to marry, dissatisfaction in marriage and infidelity.””
Bullshit.
Children, why do you hate them?
Yep. 100% bullshit.
“It really bothers me what other people are thinking about doing with their dingalings”
Will puritanism ever die? Given that the vast majority of human behavior is about controlling other people, it is doubtful.
the vast majority of human behavior is about controlling other people
exactly correct; we’re fucked
I’m kinda surprised the donkeys aren’t jumping on board with this; aren’t they all in on the New Puritanism? With this kind of “family values” TradCon stuff mixed into the “sex trafficking” moral panic it seem like a match made in heaven.
Now this is what I could call “inter-sectional” politics.
They will after they get complete power. ‘If you like your hedonism, you can keep your hedonism. Wait, wut, we didn’t say that, off to re-education with you, comrade!”
Man, that’s just one big pile of stolen bases, ain’t it?
She’s the Rickey Henderson of rhetoric.
Harpy women have an adverse effect on the family as well.
Trying to boss 0their people around can be addictive, too.
People who write horseshit like that are actually projecting. They’re writing about themselves and their own complete lack of self control. IOW, if they smoke a marijuana cigarette, they’re probably going to climb up top the Empire State building and jump off, so you must be going to do the same thing.
I agree. Pornography is a scourge on our society. We should be progressive and forward-thinking like the Middle East, where pornography is illegal. I heard that no women ever get raped over there and child sexual abuse is non-existent.
That Arizona porn thing is so silly it’s got Styxhexenhammer666 riffing on it:

So wearing a shirt, but not buttoned? I guess he’s too white to be a calypso singer.
RE: MUH PORNAWGRUFEE
I admit that there are times I wonder what effect watching massive amounts of porn might have on really young kids (9-11) since that’s the supposed age these yutes start watching it. However, that really folded into the bigger question of how smartphone/screens/et. al. effect young kids starting at them 24/7. However, this really is just an intellectual curiosity to me and I’m not convinced it has any negative effect whatsoever; certainly not enough to even consider getting a ban boner. The human race will survive one way or another regardless.
I guess my concern, if I was to be concerned, would be the trade off from outdoor physical activities to a less physically demanding activity. When we didn’t have TV and the newer things we had fewer choices so we spent a lot more time outside with all the associated physical, calorie burning things.
“When we didn’t have TV”
I don’t think TV was much of a factor. When I was a kid, we had TV. But our parents, if it wasn’t a school day (in which case we went outside for physical activities), would throw our asses outside early and would not let us back inside the house until it was going to get dark. We were not allowed to hang around in the house unless it was pouring down rain. Even then, we’d go to our rooms and roughhouse for the most part. There was no TV allowed for us during the day.
I think this inactivity thing started as a result of video games and helicopter parents who would rather you were right there where they could watch your every move, instead of being outside in a dangerous world where child molesters and drug pushers are behind every bush and rock. I blame politicians and media for the latter.
Porn usage goes up, teen pregnancies go down, there is strong correlation there. I see no correlation in the data for their case. I might think a lot of stuff out there is icky and gross, but I haven’t seen it harming anyone.
Sorry, but what idiot adult puts a smartphone in the hands of a 9 year old (or younger)?
Most of them. I’ve seen couples who are absolutely convince their 3 year old needs a cell phone.
I think the issue with porn is that unlike other media, the parents are not able to push back on it and put it in the proper context.
When your kid is watching a movie, you can tell them it’s a movie, movies aren’t real life. Same with TV, with books, with video games. Particularly with your middle and high school aged kids, it’s important that they understand that what happens on a screen has some things in common with real life, but most things are just bullshit. Like, if your daughter is reading Twilight, fine, but you can have a conservation with her about how there’s a lot of fucked up shit in that relationship that’s not actually healthy even though in the book it’s the protagonists and its true love etc etc.
The issue with porn is that your kid isn’t going to be openly watching it in front of you. It’s going to be a secret, private thing, so when your 16 year old is sneaking some pretty hardcore raunchy stuff, there’s no push back to say “Hey like, yeah some women like that kind of really rough stuff, but it’s not something you just jump right into as soon as she takes her clothes off.” Women are much more likely to consume written erotica, and that’s a whole other kettle of fish. Your daughter’s not going to be openly reading the more hardcore erotica in front of her parents, so there’s none of that push back where you can say “Hey, the whole “dark and dangerous bad boy biker is a fun character and all, but in real life there’s a lot less “hidden potry” and a lot more “uses meth and smacks his old lady around”.
I think there’s a generational thing here. To my parents, porn was magazines, and if you lived in a big enough city, a dirty movie theater. So they didn’t really understand that once we hooked up high speed Internet, 13 year old me was deep diving into all the porn on the Internet. Now as the generation of people whos first exposure to a lot of sexual stuff was through the distorted lens of porn are coming into the age of having parents, I think we’re a lot more cognizant of the issues with teenagers getting a huge influence on their conceptions of romantic and sexual behavior from porn.
Before Playboy all we teenagers had was dad’s True Detective mags, the ‘verts had their Sears catalogs.

Dingell — the longest-serving member of Congress, with more than 59 years in office — died Thursday at age 92.
Good.
Jesus do we ever need term limits. The fucking guy was in office longer than most monarchs.
There really is a god, albeit a slow moving one. Good thing his lobbyist wife was up to the task of replacing him.
Guess who took his place? His wife.
You know, if she had instead divorced him and married Marion Barry, she would have been Mrs. Dingell-Barry.
Term limits mean every new senator or congressman has an old veteran ex-legislator-now-lobbyist ‘showing them the ropes’.
Term limits have their drawbacks. How about this – first term you can write bills, second term you cant. Second termers can vote, that’s it.
Two terms, any office and you are out.
The real problem is that offices are still filled only by people who want power. Term limits just means they have to be a little more crafty and hop around while amassing it.
The seat he inherited from his father though is still in Dingell hands – so fuck you Michigan voters.
My dad was in the 9th grade when this asshole first got elected. SMDH

America, FUCK YEAH
Police searching the Southern California home of an alleged motorcycle gang member uncovered a manhole that led to an underground shooting range.
The Fontana Police Department said on Facebook that officers seized numerous weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition during the search Thursday night.
The suspect, 45-year-old Charles McMillian, was taken into custody and booked for several counts, including illegally possessing firearms. He was released on bail.
When reached at his home, McMillian said he was “a proud American” and denied he was a gang member before abruptly hanging up the phone.
*wipes away tear of pride*
“illegally possessing firearms”
Fuck off slavers
How much does he charge to build one? A two-lane one is fine.
Wanna bet that his “motorcycle gang” is actually a bunch of middle aged dads who all live in the same subdivision and decided to get vests patched up?
Oh noh! Think of the lead dust contamination. I bet he didn’t even have the required permits for that range.
How far down does a township’s authority go?
There’s really no bottom to how low their authority will go.
They’ll keep digging until they find the evidence they need.

Also in Arizona, bringing some new meaning to a nut punch.
I can watch this shit watching pigs (or any one really) abuse people and get away with it fucks with my head.
Robby has the writeup over at TOS.
Holy crap, this one is bad.
Bonus evil… prosecutors let them sit in jail for months, eventually extorting a guilty plea so the mom could get her kids back.
Police department doesn’t seem to have much of a problem with it. Neither does the prosecutor’s office.
So apparently you can drag someone out of their car, beat the crap out of them, pull down their pants and tase them in the nuts – all for the “crime” of legally declining to provide identification as a passenger in a vehicle (pulled over for failure to signal a lane change), without consequence. Well, they eventually got 3 days leave.
The prosecutors are particularly evil. I can at least understand someone losing their temper and fucking up in the moment. Maybe his old lady dumped him, whatever. But to sit in your office and calmly deliberate the facts of a case like this and continue to hold people in jail for months for “assaulting an officer and resisting arrest”? And then to eschew any prosecution of the officers? On what planet is it legal to handcuff someone, pull down his pants and tase him in the sack? There’s no possible legal rational for that one. Yet the prosecutors in this case have taken a year and a half in order to review all of the relevant info, and apparently have yet to find any wrongdoing.
Oh, but it doesn’t have the convenient “racist cop” angle, so don’t look for the national news to descend on this case.
Another reason the MSM won’t be interested.
So, apparently, we can’t really know what is in the Green New Deal because Republicans and other assorted right wing nuts are making fake versions of it and posting them everywhere, even on Gulag Barbie’s own website.
IT’S A FAKE GREEN DEAL, WE DIDN’T SAY THAT, OR THAT!
Lolololol! This is getting good!
Yeah I saw that, they’re going with the RETHUGLIKKKANS HACKED AOCS SOCIAL MEDIA AND MADE A STRAWMAN.
The Russians will be involved before the week is out.
They still haven’t explained the FAQ that Ocasio-Cortez sent to NPR. Looking forward to “the Russians hacked her email”, though.
We have always been at war with EastAsia.
The formatting of the Gateway Pundit site is terrible. But if you scroll down there is eventually a link to a web archive capture of the original version as published on her house dot gov website.
She can try to claim that this was a prematurely-published draft, but the damage is already done that they were even considering that.
She can also claim that her site was, somehow, hacked by the GOP. Unless it was a password=ILoveStalin “hack” then it was the incompetence of her own staff. The House bureaucracy who runs the IT program will not take kindly to being fingered, nor will their congressional masters (DWS).
It won’t make the least bit of difference in their behavior. They lie, they know they lie, and they will continue to lie. It’s what they do. None of the shit they advocate is real, so what else is there besides lying? What, us take away your cars and planes? NOT US! We didn’t say that! If you like your fossil fuels, you can keep your fossil fuels.
Interesting. If the chart is accurate, climate cycles are getting slower (taking more time) it more volatile (bigger swings from peaks to valleys). I wonder why?
“I wonder why?”
Because you won’t recycle and drive a Prius.
Geologists argue about a lot of things other scientists state as fact about the past, but they also have their preferred ways to interpret certain things in the data and take it all as gospel. I think the truth usually lives in between all the expert’s interpretations. Experts always thing their area of expertise is THE ANSWER. Ask a masseuse about that pain in your neck and it can be rubbed out, ask a chiropractor and it can be straightened out, ask a GP and you should take an Advil, ask a PT and and you should do these exercises, ask an oncologist and it’s probably cancer…
Could be due to higher resolution the closer to current day you get. In the older samples, the peaks and valleys have been “washed out” over time.
Or it could be a result of the conditions causing the current ice age, denoted by the formation of the Arctic ice cap 2.58 million years ago.
So, apparently, we can’t really know what is in the Green New Deal because Republicans and other assorted right wing nuts are making fake versions of it and posting them everywhere, even on Gulag Barbie’s own website.
It has probably been memoryholed, but the one I saw (and linked, the other day) explicitly called for getting rid of nuclear power.
All I need to know. It’s a scam.
Well, this is what the democrats get for puffing up this little retard and making her some sort of rock star. The democrat party is now officially the party of freaks and idiots.
The official one has been screenshotted. Many Dem Prez wannabes are on record supporting it. I predict much fun when the nominee goes head to head with Trump.
Anyone who claims the literal apocalypse is coming, but isn’t willing to take on the “risks” of nuclear is either a scammer or an idiot. Even if everything these people say about nuclear is true (it isn’t), it’s still preferable to “doing nothing”. That and it would be the most feasible solution, both economically and politically, so even if they view it as a flawed solution, they should still be pushing for it. The fact that their own theory lacks internal logic, and that they don’t seem to care about that aspect of it really is telling.
She’s not the first retard to make these prognostications. All of the rest of them were wrong as well. Green New Deal = Old Commie Horseshit.
“Chase Bank Shuts Down Proud Boys Leader’s Personal Bank Account
Enrique Tarrio, who is the Chairman of the Proud Boys fraternal organization, had his personal Chase bank account shut down abruptly earlier this week.
In a letter obtained exclusively by Big League Politics, the bank informs him that he must shut down all of his accounts by April 1st, 2019, without giving a reason.
This comes just days after Chase Bank’s payment processor, Chase Paymentech, de-platformed him on a website he runs that allows groups and charities to sell merchandise, and raise money for causes. The website, 1776.shop, is most known for selling the famous “Roger Stone Did Nothing Wrong” shirts which Stone was spotted in during the late-night arrest at his home.
Tarrio has been facing months of backlash for his affiliation with the Proud Boys, first getting onto the radar in an article published on The Daily Beast, which asserts that people of color are joining white supremacist organizations. Tarrio is both Cuban, and black, and was profiled in that article.”

WTF, Canada?
Also, would.
Woops. Gilmored.
Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than thinking, maybe these aren’t actually “white supremacist organizations”?
I have a theory that big companies are appeasing the progs with acts like this in hopes of getting favorable regulations when the progs are back in power. Favorable as in make it impossible for small businesses to get in the game at a cost the the big companies can afford.
In the future? I think they’ve already been getting that treatment.
It is a nice, cozy circle. More power for the government, more protection for the companies, more protection from the Politco’s enemies, more power for the government…..
Operation Choke Point was such a colossal violation of the constitution – and nobody really bothered to complain. Obama is still proud of it.
And it lead directly to this, and also to the social media platforms beginning to enforce political speech controls.
“people of color are joining white supremacist organizations.”
Sounds legit. Totally solid.
To be honest, we’re just looking to get laid.
“Hundreds protest in Washington state for right not to vaccinate children amid measles outbreak
Hundreds of anti-vaccination supporters demonstrated outside a public hearing in Washington state on Friday to protest a bill that would make it harder for families to opt out of mandatory vaccinations for children, the Associated Press reported.
The protest took place amid the state’s worse measles outbreak in more than two decades. Health officials have reported at least 56 cases in Washington and Oregon.
An estimated 700 people demonstrated in Olympia, Washington, most of whom opposed stricter requirements, The Washington Post reported.
The modern anti-vaccination movement has picked up recently, despite research finding that the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) is not linked to autism.”

I don’t get it. These are mostly progtards that are against vaccinations, despite the fact that they freaking love science and support the common public good. But what they don’t get, is that in progtopia, you will do as you’re told comrade, and like it. You’ll also find out eventually that you will have to give up your weed and other vices, for your own good. Just relax and try to envision an image of a boot stomping on your face, forever. You’ll get it.
No, because everyone in progtopia believes that they will be the ones giving the orders. They get to do the stomping.

I lived in Phoenix for 7 years. The police frightened me as much as any risk of crime.
I was there for a year. Got three tickets for nothing. On one case, I requested a continuance and the judge entered a plea of no contest. I told him that I did not want to enter a plea, just get a continuance, to which he said “you don’t always get what you want” I literally told him he was a tyrant and he should go fuck himself. He threatened to arrest me so I left and ignored all three tickets until I moved back home. Fought it all long distance over the phone and won. Ha!
“you don’t always get what you want”
But if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need?

To be fair, somebody a few comments above posted it.
So I saw something that brought uncontrollable tears to this bitter old man’s face. I was at Trader Joe’s and there were all these beautiful white children. Many.
They were cheerfully pushing miniature carts full of fresh capatilist produce. The smiles on thier faces. Jesus, the smiles on thier faces. All with beautiful mother’s with no visible tattoos in attendance.
I happen to believe that children are closer to God. As we grow older, farther from God we become. So I think this respite is just getting a 2nd hand whiff of God.
You’re going to have to do better than that.

Now you’re trying too hard. Subtle trolling is better.
You can’t say that you weren’t warned.
This is like strike 10.
Sure they weren’t white Hispanic?
Even if everything these people say about nuclear is true (it isn’t), it’s still preferable to “doing nothing”.
And, of course, newer/better nuclear reactor technology has been locked out of the market by regulation.
But China Syndrome!
“Okay @Google & @YouTube. We have elections coming up in 2020. Can you be HYPER-specific about what you mean by “doesn’t quite cross the line” as a decision boundary?? Can you describe this classifier in DETAIL given your relationship to civil society & democracy? We have all day.”

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than thinking, maybe these aren’t actually “white supremacist organizations”?
That would necessitate acknowledging the possibility the SPLC is not just wrong, but lying in order to advance a political agenda.
Who could possibly think that?
Allow me to clear this up from you. Not toeing proggie lion = white supremacist organization. Easy peasy.
Hey, are we on the SPLC hate group list? Cause it’s kind of embarrassing if we’re not.
How could we be? We’re a Family Friendly website.
lying in order to advance a political agenda
Or a financial one. Or both, with the former in service of the latter.
“an officer kicked him in the groin, pulled down his gym shorts, and used a taser on his testicles.”
Call me crazy, but I can’t help thinking if a “civilian” did that, he’d spend years in prison and be on a sex offender registry until the day he died
Yeap. At least they knew to pick a white victim to torture. Can you imaging if that was black family? This would be on the national news 24/7. Fake news isn’t always what they do report, it’s what they don’t.
“So for the first time I made fried eggs in you silly American way of flipping them in the pan. I am unconvinced. I find it hard to guarantee they are cooked just right without seeing the top part.”
Just another reason why Romania < America.
If you’re not frying your eggs in a dinosaur shaped silicon mold you are doing it wrong.
*takes notes*
I hate everyone in this story II, high-horse boogaloo:
On the bright side, this silliness keeps them away from their usual business of trampling on everyone’s rights for a day or two, I guess.
Anyone else notice that Gulag Barbie all of the sudden started wearing glasses? Not only glasses, but big ol RGB type glasses. Is that supposed to make her look smarter? She’s priceless I tell you, priceless!
Speaking of RBG, has anyone heard from her lately?
She was spotted at a beach house propped up in a chair by the pool. She didn’t move once.
The glasses are a sign that the consciousness transfer process succeeded.
I heard she was busy at home bench-pressing Cadillacs.
You assume those are regular glasses…
It does make her hotter.
No, you’re thinking of that muslim porn star.
She is a Maronite Catholic, you bigot!
Yeah I noticed that as well. So pathetic.
It’s the new thing. Our new Senator, “Hooker Boots” Sinema does the same thing. It’s absolutely because they think glasses make you look smart. They’re so dim they think big glasses make you look smartier.
Just like when Homer Simpson put on big glasses and it made him smarter.
Just added to my epic @Spotify playlist “Jangle Noise” @thespyrals @HolyTunics @LaSmokescreens classic powerpop from The Last, noisy punk from Moving Targets, Get Smart!, Poppel, Beef Jerk, and more! 11 hours of jangly guitars and noisy pop, psyche, surf, rock, indie, C86, etc.
I predict that someone has forgotten to schedule today’s IFLA.
Cancel my subscription!
It’s kind of fascinating to look at the titles of the unscheduled drafts.
[cue standard joke about nobody actually reading the articles]
Chili is simmering:) Just as the snow starts to fall.
You need a third line with 5 syllables to make a haiku. I suggest
Grated cheddar cheese.
And a hot new poetry duo is born.
Just like Habenaro and Fresno I put in my Chili!
Sounds good. I have lots of cheese:)
Dude, that first line has six.
Amateurs all around me
I’ll do it myself.
*polite applause*
Awesome. I’m making a “cabbage farce” today from Jas. Townsend:

I’ve made it before and it’s pretty good, especially on winter day. I just wish I had picked up a few bottles of porter to go with it.
That looks like a good winter meal. I’ve not cooked with suet before. I think I need to!
Toxic masculinity.
When I tell you to put out, I mean it.
OMG! WHY DO YOU HATE ‘REAL’ AMERICA, YOU ELITIST COSMO GLOBALIST PIECE OF SHIT!?!?
Because fuck you, that’s why?
You meant (((Globalist)))?
It was assumed.
In a few days OMWC and SP can become even more local in their new home by celebrating the death of Phillip Grundman. Grundman (yes the name is real) was killed in 1981 near Lake Pleasant by a saguaro in self defense. The idiot was shooting at these cacti with a shotgun to knock them over. When he blew off an arm of a saguaro and it fell on him, killing him until he was dead. (Old rule of thumb is a saguaro weighs 100 lbs per linear foot.)
Raise a glass and toast to Darwin and to the cactus that defended itself.
http://archive.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/20100407clay0408.html
and from the NY Times in 1982:
“Last February, 27-year-old David M. Grundman took to the desert near here with a shotgun and two rifles and began blasting away at a 23-foot-tall saguaro cactus. The cactus, mortally wounded by the gunfire, suddenly toppled over on Mr. Grundman, crushing him to death.”
On Bing, top article suggestion:
Target of Sexist Tweet with a picture of crazy-eyes.
Someone called her a bimbo on twitter. No lie. That’s it. It seems every paper in the country has an article covering it.
The horror. Bimbo.
Can you even? Because I can’t even.
Would a democrat ever call a Republican politician some name like that? I think not, good sir! I think not.
Cover mode. Change the top google searches from GND to she’s a poor oppressed victim of the patriarchy. I don’t know which is worse, the transparency of the propaganda of the MSM, or the fact that a large number of people will swear up and down that the media is unbiased.
+ Palin clan.
Hahaha yep. That just conjured up memories of all the names that Democrats use against Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, and the various female hosts of Fox News programs. And probably Lauren Southern as well (would would would would would).
I guess it should be no surprise since this is the same group that has no issue with calling Clarence Thomas “a clown in blackface” or calling Colion Noir an “Uncle Tom”.
Useful idiot is more appropriate, and gender neutral.
And note that it’s some local councilor in Texas. The twitterings of some some low-level TEAM RED politician are treated as indicative of the entire party, but when somebody as high up as Maxine Waters calls for violence against Republicans, it’s ignored and how dare you try to link it to the rest of TEAM BLUE.
Only because he backed down, like a moron. Now he’s done get.
done fer….
autocorrect got me again
If he didn’t, his fellow party members would have done it for him, like the state legislator making the racist observation that Eric Gardner’s death was (in part) due to excessive tobacco taxes.
Criticizing the obvious bias of the corporate press makes Mitt Romney libertarians cry
How is anything that happens on Twitter news? Honestly, I blame the president who rightly deserves blame in this regard
He’s just taking advantage of it. Blame the 24 news cycle which apparently has nothing else to talk about.
We’ve substituted discussions about what some celebrity tweeted for what is happening in our state legislatures.
It’s just an extension of the “celebritification” of politics. Trump is most definitely a symptom of that, but it started with Obama and has really taken off in the age of constant social media circle-jerking.
I think it started with Reagan
JFK
Tulip and Scruffy may be right that other presidents have been “celebritified”, but it was really dialled up to 11 when Obama took office. For a lot of people, he cemented this idea that the president is supposed to be some hip, likeable guy who has his finger on the pulse of pop culture and farts around on late night talk shows.
Democracy dies in stupidity.
Someone called her a bimbo on twitter.
According to my contextual definition, to be a “bimbo” requires an element of sexual desirability, in addition to low intelligence.
So… false.
The former is debatable, the latter is proven fact.
Bimob: an attractive but unintelligent or frivolous young woman.
Sounds about right to me. May not be your cup of tea, but she definitely is attractive enough to qualify. The “unintelligent or frivolous” shouldn’t be controversial.
I would have thought a bimob was a mob of bisexuals. :-p
I read an article about how Donald Trump jr. re-tweeted Michael Malice who responded to the president’s Tweet about Elizabeth Warren by saying “the president continues the genocide of native Americans by killing an Indian”.
(1) Why was this news? (2) Michael Malice will be banned from Twitter soon for expressing “wrong thought”
Also, Michael Malice has two really good podcasts that some of you might enjoy “Your Welcome” and “Nightshade”.
It’s absolutely because they think glasses make you look smart. They’re so dim they think big glasses make you look smartier.
The bigger the glasses, the smarter you look. Just ask Elton John.
she definitely is attractive enough to qualify.
If you say so.
You know you want it.

They fucked up coke zero when they reformulated it. It won’t hold carbonation anymore, especially on ice.
I still drink their cherry coke zero, though.
Cherry Coke Zero is the only passable low calorie soda.
Cherry Coke Zero is hard to find around here and diet cherry coke doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
I can’t believe Coke fucked up regular Zero (I liked it better than regular coke) but then the new owners of Butterfinger just did the same thing. WTF is wrong with people that they can’t leave what is working alone and have to fix what isn’t broken?
It’s gone

What a complete cockup. Fucking millennials. Ginger lemon and ginger lime?
Mmmm…. Creamsicles.
I have fond memories of an orange stained face as a youth in the 70’s.
Now I can’t stand it. Getting old bites.
Diet orange Crush and vanilla protein powder.
I like diet orange crush. I wish I could get diet grape crush.
I make do with diet grape Shasta. Also, strawberry.
“Why doesn’t everybody leave everybody else the hell alone”

Going to check this place out this afternoon.
http://blackforestbrewingco.com/brews-and-food/
Sunny 41 with no wind, nice day to sit out in the trees and drink.
I’m sitting in a youth orchestra recital.
A drink would help.
This should help too.

Looks like a nice way to spend the afternoon. I’m rehydrating after a night of debauchery.
