Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas! And what a glorious morning it is for everyone but Democrats who for the hundredth time are going to be let down as the massive “bombshell” that Cohen is going to release at the congressional hearings is that…drum roll please…Trump knew that Roger Stone reached out to Wikileaks. Womp womp.

It’s too early to think. I messed up my sleep schedule and my brain’s still recalibrating.
Uh… what to do. Right quote something and fail at a snarky quip.
Wait, that’s the wrong thing.
I could remark on the Dems not showing up for their own climage change subcommittee meeting and getting it adjorned by the Reps. Sure, that’s go unnoticed.
What glib time were you on again?

So it is clearly not to early to think
Not normally, no, it’s 8am, which is plenty late – unless we’re talking college years in which case it’s stupid early. I’m just running on the wrong internal clock.

The IOC never seemed to have a problem with East Germany.
Those women never transitioned, they just got the hormone treatments.
Some transitioned after retiring from competition
Well, when you’ve already been given enough testosterone to fuel an entire weightlifting competition…
You’re just gonna get the same pollster as the one that claims vast majorities of Americans want to tax themselves poor.

I am in favor for the humor value of it. Then again I am in favor of renouncing men/women sports altogether to just end the debate once and for all, Also end the “earnings gap” debate. Everyone competes and may the best man win.
>>Cohen to accuse Trump of knowing about Roger Stone-WikiLeaks plot, but deny ‘direct evidence’ of Russia collusion
a plot to do what now?
What did Roger Stone do that was illegal w/r to WikiLeaks. AFAICT His only sins were committed as a cause of the investigation, or prior to the campaign.
Stealing the election from the rightful heir, er I mean candidate. Look they already have the proof that the plot worked, all they’ve been trying to do is figure out what the plot actually was.
100% this!
Release accurate information proving that the opposition candidate was incompetent, corrupt, and showed the sort of poor judgement that disqualified her from any position of responsbility.
It undermines democracy when voters are allowed to make their decisions with more facts at their disposal.
It truly is amazing how a small percentage of people are allowing this insanity to persist.
It’s simply because the people who support it are:
1) The type of people who seek out authority in organizations
2) The type of people who do not have any problem calling people who disagree with them immoral and/or evil.
And also because the opponents of it are not yet used to being called assholes and not caring.

It will have to reach some sort of saturation point where women are consistently outperformed by trans athletes where a lot of woke people may realized they’ve gone too far.
Californian “Herbalist” sentenced after convincing parents to not give his son insulin for his diabetes. Why were the parents also not charged? – in their defense… jeez I got nothing
They were only following a fraud’s expert advice.
What if the “expert” advice is from the government, like all of the bogus food advice?
If you believe the government, you get what’s coming to you.
My guess is that the prosecutor didn’t want those parents out there as poster children for his opponents when he’s running for office. Might have learned something from Kamala Harris’ mistakes.
But yes, the parents should have been charged first and foremost.
The parents would be a pretty sympathetic defendant, you wouldn’t need to be Clarence Darrow to be able to convince a jury that these were good honest people trying to do their best for their child but were swayed into a mistaken path by a convincing charlatan. Haven’t they suffered enough, they have to wake up every day and live with the knowledge that their mistaken belief in the wrong man lead to the death of their child.
That is a much harder case to win than going after the Herbalist so why bother risking the loss?

If I was a female athlete busting my ass to train and compete at a sport like handball and some 6-3 250 pound transgender came in and started destroying everyone…yes, I’d be RESENTFUL AS FUCK.
Political correctness originated as the concept that there was a reality, but the government didn’t want you to express that reality, so you LIED to not get in trouble. That’s whats happening here. These young women are aware the situation is bullshit…but they’re being told, “You are not correct…your feeling is going to be called resentment, and you will submit and go along…reality be damned”

Well-done.
And those poor girls are caught between a rock and a hard place. If they say anything they’ll get pilloried for being anti-trans, and probably booted from the team.
I suspect that a lot of parents and coaches are telling those girls to just suck it up and do the best they can in hopes that the trans athletes will be disqualified after the fact (unlikely, IMO).

– “There are 67 genders” – conspiracy theory

SJWednesday: Vegan Vs Anti-Natalist Smackdown Edition
“Look at how well our small child seeks parental approbation.”
a 3-year old vegan girl who just grilled all our neighbors about veganism
If she’s a vegan what the hell was she doing grilling the neighbors?
Depending upon the neighborhood, they could be fruits and vegetables.
And if they’re still friends with this family, they’re clearly nuts.
Can’t these buffoons go commit ritual seppuku and leave this horrible horrible world to those of us who enjoy it? Maybe if a few militant vegans offed themselves, the world would actually become a better place.
/returns to cooking breakfast sausage
how about militant anti-natalists?
Them too
Having a vegan child has forced us to engage in vegan education efforts in all kinds of spaces that we otherwise would not have: with neighbors, pre-school, family, and friends.
Yeah I’ve noticed how reticent vegans are about “educating” neighbors, family and friends about their
religionlifestyle.“forced”
Bzzzt. Enjoy your year’s supply of Rice-A-Roni.
I treat them like I do any other person who decides to preach at me.
with a bushel of 100% vegan, rotting tomatoes.
Nope. I’ll listen to the initial spiel (unless it’s one I’ve heard before), and politely say I’m not interested. If they continue after that point, then escalation happens. So far the worst I’ve ever dealt with was Jack Chick evangelicals who used a cute girl as the person to rope in people coming out of bars. By the end of the conversation, I had them calling me Reverend (I am ordained after all).

Actually, when I was living in a (very poor, very black) part of Believeland, the Jehovah’s Witnesses that came around where much, much more polite than the vegan advocates I had to deal with on campus. They got treated a lot better because of that.
The kid was born vegan? How does a vegan infant nurse in good conscience?
Vegan = Cannibal?
Dammit, Slammer.
Every religion has its food rituals. The left is no exception.

Having a vegan child has forced us to engage in vegan education efforts in all kinds of spaces that we otherwise would not have: with neighbors, pre-school, family, and friends. If we truly want a vegan world, we need to raise awareness everywhere, not only with those from a singular demographic or lifestyle choice.
“Who the fuck invited you? Shut up and leave.”
It is just me or is NPR having a bit of an issue with (some) protestants?
Three times in the past couple of weeks, my alarm has gone off to them reporting on the SCANDAL! of sex abuse in the Southern Baptist Convention. It really sounded like they were trying to whip up a moral panic. This morning, they had two different stories about the United Methodist Church not voting to accept gay marriage, both stores accompanied by an interview with a different person who was opposed to the UMC’s action — including a person who “identifies as queer” accusing the UMC of hypocrisy because they “can’t transform the world if they’re not willing to transform themselves.”
Notably, they only chose to interview US-ians, no African or South American delegates.
They want to equate the Southern Baptist scandal with that of the Catholic church. However, the SBC is a voluntary organization, and the SBC has no direct authority over any church. It appears that some of the churches made some really stupid decisions on hiring people, specifically not running background checks or speaking with the last employer. This is not the fault of the SBC, it is the fault of the individual churches.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fires back at Ivanka Trump: I ‘worked for tips’
So do strippers, honey.
“Let’s see those tax returns, honey.”
When she was Ted Kennedy’s intern…
I worked and got tips too at my first gig. I still say your (AOC’s) “democratic” socialism and GND idea are dumb as hell and you should feel ashamed for its existence.
“As a person who actually worked for tips & hourly wages in my life, instead of having to learn about it 2nd-hand, I can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live,” – I want to bang … what does that have to do with anything?
“As a man who has dated and fucked a lot of women, instead of watching it on the internet, I can tell you that most men want to get laid. A lot. A few horrible people — statist arseholes — would even like to use the government to force unwilling women, at gunpoint if need be — to submit to men who otherwise wouldn’t get laid.
This is not at all comparable to those generous people with great intentions who would like to use the government to force nasty, mean-spirited employers to pay above market wages to employees whose labor isn’t worth that much. This totally won’t cause any unintended consequences, such as the unemployment of anyone whose productivity is below that arbitrary wage level cutoff.”
I still find it hilarious that she graduated with an economics degree from a prestigious university and somehow ended up so unemployable she had to work as a waitress, and we’re supposed to take her advice on how to conduct national economic policy lest our policies be determined by those unthinking Trump simpletons doing trivial shit like fixing cars and building homes.
^This. So much this.
I interviewed a BU graduate once, and (sorry if any of you are here), but the interviewee was dumb as a rock. And not just in general – but in softball questions directly related to her degree and experience. So to me a BU degree comes with essentially a negative number on the prestige scale.

As of today, I have a new retirement plan
Your average nursing home includes, you know, nurses. Holiday Inns do not.
From what I have observed, they aren’t good for much other than making sure you aren’t having fun. They’ll just send you to the hospital when you get too bothersome. I’d rather drink myself to death at the hotel bar.
The chamber maids at Holiday Inn don’t customarily torture the guests either, so that’s’ a bonus.
^These.
When you’re ready for the nursing home, you’re at the point where you can’t get on the toilet, or take a bath, or change your own clothes.
A more appropriate comparison would be assisted living, which would be closer to the Holiday Inn price and service.
More like Independent Living. I’ve been looking into this for my Mom and it runs about $80 – $100 a day in her area. They also provide more senior oriented amenities like frequent shuttle rides to nearby hospitals and entertainment venues, as well as emergency pull cords in the rooms.
And it’s actual apartments, though without stoves usually.
I think you should also keep buying lottery tickets, always good to have a plan B
That’ll fit into his $128 a day for food and entertainment.

The Latest Diet Trend Is Not Dieting
“Intuitive eating” encourages people to eat whatever they want. It might be great advice.
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/02/intuitive-eating/583357/
How is this different from standard behavior?
Tribole and Resch developed intuitive eating to address both of these problematic layers in dieting. They encourage people to do something that might sound chaotic or dangerous: Eat what you want, with no rules about what to eat, how much of it, or when. Intuitive eating has 10 tenets, but the most well-known one is that no foods are off limits, and that there is no such thing as a “good” or “bad” food. – yeah bullshit
I tried that for years.
It resulted in me weighing 360 pounds and having chronic acid reflux.
It’s about as good an idea as “body positivity”. I say we encourage fat-shaming and eating less. Especially for people who weigh multiples of normal people.

I’ve seen some rumbling about this in various places. Like, “they might be gay, but they are still white men.”
^This. We will be the first group to be purged from the alphabet soup community, followed by white lesbians. White lesbians are already feeling the heat and being pushed out of leadership roles in feminist and lesbian organizations.
“Lead” where? Those organizations have won (just like the NAACP and MAD). Now it’s just a racket and a left-wing political vehicle.
Sure the level of acceptance may vary by individual and zip code – spouting hatred of conservatives, whites, and Christians is a good way to reinforce the bigotry.
Hilarious that it has to be noted.
but didn’t want to out myself as a conservative or sympathizer.

How America Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Deficits and Debt
The old rules are being rejected, among liberals and conservatives, politicians and economists.
To be fair, it is not hard to love deficit and debt.
This heroin hasn’t killed me yet. Winning.
Yep, it’s not a problem until it is.
Democrats are coming to believe they have hamstrung themselves in pursuit of their goals by worrying about so-called pay-fors, policies that offset the cost.
Lol. I noticed how concerned Democrats were with paying for their spending when they had a lock on congress and the presidency and racked up 12 trillion dollars of new debt in 8 years WHILE increasing taxes.
You know it does not take a genius to explain why this is happening. I actually wrote an article that touches on this from a different perspective that I am waiting to hear back from TPTB on.
Looking forward to reading it.
I’ve met stupid people before too.
Or they could go to a cheaper college maybe?
One should not have to choose between doing what one wants and something as paltry as money. Also the very best lesbian liberal arts colleges cost a pretty penny, but at least they check your privileged

Problem solved.

Yeah, but then nobody will be able to finance that undergrad degree in post-deconstructionist genderqueer Africana studies that they spent 7 years obtaining and keep the pockets of the administrative class nice and fat. You’ve only solved one problem, and it’s not the important one.
High schools are ill-equipped to teach students that $300k in student loan debt is not wise. This is why we need free college tuition.
“We have got to make public colleges and universities tuition-free and substantially
lower student debtdevalue the already cheapened college degree.”It would only be fair to put all students into a lottery for the available university seats.
All universities would have to admit the kids that were assigned to it in the lottery. None of this shitlord raising your tuition to only let in a certain class of people. That is very, very unfair.

Thanks for the lynx and the Damned. A fine choice.
In case you were wondering, Bill Maher is a piece of shit.
Flash-forward to Post-Election 2020
Hmmm, now why did those damn pesky red staters get Trump elected again?
I love living in a flyover state. Equal distance from the coasts so flight times aren’t bad. Cost of living that is almost half of some of the blue states. Plenty of jobs. More freedom than any of the blue states, although I’d like there to be more. Most important people from blue states don’t come here.
It’s going to be a long time before I move. In fact, I’m probably about to get myself even more stuck where I am pretty soon, at least for a while. But eventually I’m probably going to move out in the absolute middle of fucking nowhere. I always thought I wanted to live in a bustling mid to large city, and boy oh fucking boy was I wrong.

I’ve gained about 10 pounds during our marriage, but still am well within the range for a normal body weight.

I saw that number and “five days a week at the gym” and first thing I thought was, “I gained ten pounds eating a piece of toast, and I’m 40. There’s no fucking way.”
I think with “The Change” adding 10 pounds while still working out is possible.
Ask my wife. Trained for and ran 4 half-marathons last year and still gained 8 pounds. She turns 44 this year. Still looks amazing though.

That episode – the first time I watched it – made me fall off the sofa with laughter.
The way everything just continues to escalate throughout the episode makes it one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched. You don’t even really need to know the characters for the episode to work. The “I’m disabled” exchange was my personal highlight.
Full episode if anyone wants to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNTUHtjFkGI
Sounds a bit . . . gay.
Ok, he’s in his 60’s, he probably is suffering from low t and possibly erectile dysfunction. Sit him down and give him an ultimatum he gets to pick…
1) he will go see a doctor about whatever sexual issues he is having and if there is nothing physical wrong the two of you will enter counseling with the goal of making sex a regular occurance
2) he will agree to your taking on other lovers
3) you will leave him
Odds are he is just completely asexual at this point and either is blind to the problem or is aware of it and doesn’t actually think it is a problem

No, I can’t, Mrs. Kraft.
Maybe it’s payback for all those times she denied him when they were both younger?
But seriously, probably low-T like Rasilio said.
In his testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday, Michael Cohen will accuse his former client, President Trump, of knowing that his adviser Roger Stone was reaching out to WikiLeaks concerning the publication of stolen Democratic National Committee emails.
And?
Remind me Mr. Cohen… What was in those emails? And they were real, not faked in any way?
The DNC got busted rigging a nomination for Hillary Clinton, among other things, and the only thing the media and the Dems are talking about Trump’s scumbag lawyer Cohen saying that Stone told Trump about Wikileaks. That tells you everything you need to know about the media and the establishment Democrats.
the media and the establishment Democrats
No need to repeat yourself.
By their old theories, high deficits and debt should have caused interest rates and inflation to rise, and government borrowing should have “crowded out” capital from the private sector.
In a universe in which such a thing as a “market” interest rate existed, those things probably would have happened by now.
Also, there might not have been a corporate M&A binge funded by “free” money which is beginning to look like a huge unstable cornice waiting to slide down the mountain and destroy everything in its path.
pppffftttt, massive acquisition sprees funded by record-low interest rates set by decree are just capitalism at work!
How it feels to have ‘millennial burnout’
I’m a neurotic insomniac too, but I just blame my parents like everyone has for 10,000 years and deal with it.
Perhaps if you removed virtue-signaling from your to-do list, you’d have more time.
the things I should be doing – but just can’t bring myself to do
I think you answered your own question. All you have to do is start working on those chores and it will be amazing how much better you feel. And your chore list is cleaning up after yourself, shopping and going to the gym? Not too daunting of a list is it?
+1 Jordan Peterson
Jokes aside, I spent a good portion of my free time the last couple of days cleaning my house and man, it feels WONDERFUL.
^This. I get stressed like anyone else, but it improved dramatically when I started making a few changes. I started making lists of situations I needed to deal with whenever I got overwhelmed. Then, I’d start going through the list dealing with the things I could do something about. Eventually, I learned that the best way to handle situations I found uncomfortable or intimidating–calling a bill collector to explain why I was going to be late on something, for instance–was to get ahead of my own fear and do it as soon as I could. The anticipation of an unpleasant event is much worse than the event itself, in general, dentistry being a notable exception to the rule.
My favorite treatment for mild depression and generalized ennui, is to make a pitcher of martinis and clean the apartment top to bottom. It works.
So general anxiety – there’s pills for that.

And yet you found the energy and time to write this shit.

So last night I caught a bit on NPR about Trump’s visit with Kim.
According to the smart set, if Kim doesn’t give up all his nukes and let in inspectors after this summit it was an abject failure. They even heard rumors that Trump might not insist on total nuclear disarmament at the summit! What a total failure!!!
Trump went 10,000 miles to meet Kim and he still can’t see the goal posts because they have moved them so far.
The only compassionate solution is for Kim to be sodomized by bayonet according to these people.
War in North Korea is fine because they don’t have any oil.
No matter what Trump does is doomed for failure because he’s totally stupid ‘n’ stuff unlike the smarty pants. Didn’t I hear this same thing in the W years?
The difference is Bush actually is stupid and incompetent.

True enough.
Yes, you did. Let’s hope they’re wrong this time.
Reagan, too. It’s interesting that they didn’t hang “stupid” on Nixon, although maybe if Watergate hadn’t happened that would’ve come around in time. I think Ford got some of that treatment, but I wasn’t around at the time to know about it.

At least this evening should be quiet. I get to do query migrations. It’s a task so simple you could have a night operator do it.
But then we’d have to train them on it. And they’d still call us at the slightest deviation from the script. Or if there’s a project build requiring elevated access. Or if there’s some message they didn’t recognize.
So we just do the query migrations ourselves.
House votes to overturn Trump’s emergency declaration
It doesn’t appear that they have a super-majority. But what are the legal and constitutional considerations at play here?
Unless they’re repealing the federal legislation that gave the president the authority to make such declarations, I don’t think there is a leg to stand on. They can either take away the power to declare emergencies, or do nothing. They can’t say “oh, but this doesn’t count” after delegating without actually changing the law under which the delegation occured.
That would be manna from heaven.
They’d just give it back to the next guy.
There has to be some wise judge that can step in and stop this madman.
Well, SCOTUS just ruled that the judge has to be alive to issue an opinion. (9th circuit tried to issue an opinion using a judge who’d already died in the ‘majority’)

*The only time I broke this rule was when I was on a plane from Mpls to Memphis and I saw Nick Bockwinkel sitting about 4 rows ahead of me. I was even wearing a Road Warriors t-shirt at the time. I did bug him during the flight to tell him how much I loved him in the AWA. He was very gracious.
I broke the rule only once as well- Lee Marvin in the waiting area at an airport. Flight was delayed. So I ended up getting a drink with him.
Sometimes Jim Marshall (greatest Viking evah!) stops in the bar we rehydrate in after basketball.
We always buy him a drink when he shows up, but we never bug him. He’s stopped by and said thanks, but that is about as far as it goes.
I always tell people that Penny Hardaway and I are best buddies because we used to study in the same computer lab at Memphis State. Our relationship was pretty much me sitting 3 rows away and drooling over the “tutors” who were helping him get on the Dean’s List (after being a prop 48 kid).
The problem with being a geek like me is that my idea of a celebrity is someone who won a physics Nobel or something like that. I doubt many people would recognize Bob Schrieffer or Alan Heeger walking down the street, but Yahweh help me, I would.
I’m sure that those super physics guys appreciate you acting upon them with force. Otherwise they would be compelled – by law – to continue walking down the street forever (yes, I’m ignoring air resistance and friction to make a point).
Same. Geoffrey Rush sat next to me in a Sky Club (just after one of the first Pirates movies). People kept bugging him. I leaned over and said the Casanova Frankenstein character was really paying off and he cracked up.
Mystery Men is pretty underrated.
And some of these guys are actually hot, but I totally won’t go there because if you are that intolerant that you put that shit on a hookup site then I don’t want you anywhere near my penis. They say that gay white males vote conservative more so than any other part of the alphabet-soup “community.”
One of the worst offenders about this has been trying to hook up with me for years. He asked me a couple of weeks ago if he had done anything to offend me. Was so tempted to reply “your intolerance is offensive” but didn’t want to out myself as a conservative or sympathizer.
I’m sorry, Tonio, but I kind of laughed at that, because it’s so bizarre to think we live in a world where having a different view of politics is more socially precarious than being gay. Times have changed. People have not.
And, of course, one cannot run the risk of finding out you might actually “like” somebody who doesn’t agree with you about every thing under the sun. Even some random hookup might be forever, I guess.
No need for an apology for the comment – that’s a good perspective on things.
“Even some random hookup might be forever, I guess.”
In general perhaps, but not in this particular case.

Hey, let’s play that game. Fine, I agree. The social contract is also a social construct. Your social construct theory is also a social construct. I get to change them willy nilly now, right?
I think Jordan Peterson dropped something like that a few times. If postmodernism operates under the assumption that there can’t be absolute, universal truths, it immediately invalidates itself because the statement is self-contradictory.

For any of you Glibs in the Las Vegas area, I’m going to be out there in mid-April for Viva Las Vegas (and a couple days on either side of it) if you want to meet up for a pint or two. I’m going to be off strip at the Orleans, enjoying my first Viva that I don’t need to get in a shuttle to get to the events (I’ll only need a shuttle to get to the strip). The girlfriend and I do have plans to hit up Frankie’s one night, as well as heading downtown one day.
I’ve got a few things up in the air during that time frame, but if the schedule’s clear I might be able to make it in there one night.
Feel free to hit me up at my handle at Google’s mail provider. We’re getting in on the 17th, and leaving on the 23rd. That Saturday is the car show (which is the biggest event at Viva: Pin up contests; The Delta Bombers; The Reverend Horton Heat; Burlesque Competition; and Classic cars). But there’s open time to meet up most of the other days.
Right on, when the date gets closer I should have a better idea of what my schedule looks like and I’ll drop you a message.
Wifey and I might swing by to McMullins for a pint or two or four if you drop by there since you are staying at the Orleans.
We’ve been there every year so far. It’s amazing how empty that place is during the day, and it’s nice to get away from the crowds for a bit. Same deal, feel free to hit me up at my e-mail.
Frankie’s is a great bar. The cups are great souvenirs too.
Hit up the Double Down if you’re into dive bars.
I’d love to get back out there, but it’s a long drive
from Wisconsin, so the priority is low.

Sounds like fun (srsly). If I’m not there, start without me.
Will do! It’ll be a late start though, they’ve got Los Straitjackets playing at 02:30 in the morning Saturday. Who the fuck schedules Los Straitjackets for an overnight session? Hopefully the movie release starting at 23:00 Friday night will keep me entertained and awake enough to make it.
A car show and the Rev? Sounds awesome to me.
It’s my fourth year going. It helps that it’s right around my birthday every year, and they change up the musical headliners. Off the top of my head:
2016: Dick Dale/Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot
2017: Lee Rocker/Reverend Horton Heat/Los Straitjackets
2018: Jerry Lee Lewis/Straycats (all three members)
The headliners all play at the Car Show (for which there’s a separate ticket). Then there’s various shows, events, and vendors throughout the resort.
I was even wearing a Road Warriors t-shirt at the time.
Nice, Those guys were awesome.

I still worry that journalists are not being radical enough about how to create vibrant local news organizations, without which the health of our communities will be at risk. One new study found that a municipality’s borrowing costs increase when local reporting dies. Without journalists, the risk of corruption, of mismanagement, grows. Another study found that communities with declining coverage have lower levels of voter turnout. People need independent, reliable, fact-based reporting to help them make good decisions. Democracy can’t function without it. I won’t quote Thomas Jefferson. But if you wonder what he would have said about the matter, look it up.
————–
What if local governments created local taxing districts to support local news, the way the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District in the Denver metropolitan area levies sales taxes to support cultural organizations? Not the only support, of course. But at least a base they can count on. Or what if states included capped opt-in donations on income taxes that could be directed by taxpayers to fund local news organizations in lieu of giving the money to the state? Britain has found a successful model to support the BBC with its license fee on television sets, for example. Americans typically reject the notion of any type of government support for journalism, but in fact we’ve used special postal rates and legal advertising to subsidize our newspapers. Couldn’t there be a new form of subsidy? Yes, these ideas—admittedly not fully developed—raise thorny questions, but I think they’re worth pursuing, because the alternative of losing local media entirely is unacceptable.
Another tearjerker about he death of local news. Sad. Get your hanky ready.
So- absent local news
investigative reporting</strike cheerleading, municipal boondoggles may have less broad support in the community. Vanity projects may be harder to fund. Voter turnout may be reduced (especially the voters who matter- the ones who will vote for the boondoggles). How will we get that shiny new Law and Justice Center which will memorialize the beneficent power of Democracy? How do we solve this? How else? Subsidies from special taxes. What could more effectively guarantee an arms-length (no need for adversarial, that would be silly) relationship between City Hall and the hardboiled cynics in the newsroom?
Just as long as the truth survives, we shall be set free.

“Another tearjerker about he death of local news.”
How else would you be warned about the scariest new super drug sweeping the country and turning people into orange alligators?
Trust me it does not matter if there is an official newspaper reporting on your town I guarantee you there are 30 “journalists” breathlessly reporting into Social Media about everything the corrupt mayor or manager or council do. Sure half of them are insane but for every insane guy ranting about the town government on the internet you have a corrupt “reporter” protecting some entrenched power base or other.
People need independent, reliable, fact-based reporting to help them make good decisions.
Too bad the average journalist cannot provide this.
What if local governments created local taxing districts to support local news, the way the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District in the Denver metropolitan area levies sales taxes to support cultural organizations?
As if the state does not already exercise enough control over “news” media.
When my kid was in Little League (in CA) ten years ago, if you wanted to be on the field at all (not just coaching but even things like carrying bats and balls), you had to go through a complete background check including fingerprinting and mugshots. Needless to say, I did not volunteer to help.
You hung around under the bleachers with beer and cigarettes, though, to bribe them into cleaning the pools for you right?
RIGHT?
Oh, look. Some dumbass forgot to close my strike tag.
Missed it by > much.
“It truly is amazing how a small percentage of people are allowing this insanity to persist. I’d love to see a poll, but I can’t imagine no more than 10/20% of the population believe in allowing men into women sports competitions.”
You ain’t woke and so cannot understand the complexities of all this intersectionality. Doesn’t help that you are hanging out with a bunch of unwoke knuckle dragging shitlords.
Let’s try that again:
Another tearjerker about he death of local news. Sad. Get your hanky ready.
So- absent local news
investigative reportingcheerleading, municipal boondoggles may have less broad support in the community.
Ya’ll missing the Cohen show? I guess ran by Elijah Cummings. The 3rd smartest genius in Congress, right behind AOC and Hank Johnson. Congress could tip over if we don’t get a Green New Deal.
“If the baton is passed to House committee chairs Jerrold Nadler, Maxine Waters, and Elijah Cummings, then in Act Two of the show, the country will be treated to something like the Spanish Inquisition as performed by Moe, Larry, and Curly.”

That old kook is still around? I haven’t read him in years. Interesting that he doesn’t seem to riding the Bad Orange Man express.
So Ginsburg is finally out?
She’s not dead yet. In fact, she says she’s getting better.
She’s fine as long as she’s taking her medication.
Realizing it’s Wednesday, the day for the SF post: 🙂
Realizing you’re excited about the Wednesday SF post: 🙁
Not caring because it’s Wednesday, the day for the SF post: 🙂
It’s wednesday – day of eternal meetings.
It’s Wednesday, “speed pack run” day. Whee!
No love for camels?
No need for nicotine, when I have caffeine. OTOH, you make a very good point. It is hump day, after all.
I was planning to make a wide circle around Chicagoland going from Milwaukee to Indianapolis.
Good thinking.
