How many thousands of our poorest commenters
Are at this hour asleep! O sleep, O gentle sleep,
Nature’s soft nurse, how have I frightened thee,
That thou no more will weigh my eyelids down,
And steep my senses in forgetfulness?
Why rather, sleep, liest thou in smoky cribs,
Upon uneasy pallets stretching thee,
And hush’d with buzzing night-flies to thy slumber,
Than in the perfum’d chambers of TPTB,
Under the canopies of costly state,
And lull’d with sound of sweetest melody?
O thou dull god, why liest thou with the vile
In loathsome beds, and leav’st the kingly couch
A watch-case or a common ‘larum-bell?
Wilt thou upon the high and giddy mast
Seal up the ship-boy’s eyes, and rock his brains
In cradle of the rude imperious surge,
And in the visitation of the winds,
Who take the ruffian billows by the top,
Curling their monstrous heads, and hanging them
With deafing clamour in the slippery clouds,
That with the hurly death itself awakes?
Canst thou, O partial sleep, give thy repose
To the wet sea-boy in an hour so rude;
And in the calmest and most stillest night,
With all appliances and means to boot,
Deny it to a Glib? Then, happy low, lie down!
Uneasy lies the head that wears a Link.
So… insomnia makes me cranky and makes switzy a poet?
Insomnia makes me cranky too.
I’ve mastered the 20-30 minute lunchtime car nap.
I’ve never once taken a nap and woke up feeling better than I did prior. Just makes me wish I’d actually slept.
It gives me just enough energy to power through the rest of the day. We’re talking after 2-4 hours of sleep at night where my brain refuses to do anything until I get some more shut eye.
The only way I get a nap is by first having a serious afternoon delight romp that leaves me exhausted. Then again, I have been fighting to get sleep now for 40 years, and am going to lose that battle.
Naps rule. I’ve always been a very light sleeper though and wake up several times a night, so maybe naps aren’t that big of a difference for me.
Countries like Mexico and the Philippines have it absolutely right with the siesta concept.
I have a similar response to napping as Pat. I’m worse off afterwards than before I started.
It has to do with length (well hello there). I think 15-20 minutes is the sweet spot.
I can’t even fall asleep in 15-20 minutes.
I’m not sure how long I am asleep during that time either, I just keep my eyes closed and open them 15 minutes later.
Coffee nap
Yes, a 20 minute nap will always make me feel great for several hours afterwards. But if I screw up and let it go longer than 30 minutes, I’m groggy for quite awhile. The “40 winks” concept makes daytime naps successful.
Usually at about 1PM to 2 PM I can close my eyes and in about 2 minutes be asleep for 10 minutes – and it will feel like I’ve slept for hours.
But after this last job I’ve totally fucked up. I can’t get myself back to a regular sleep schedule. A month after quitting that job and I’m still trying to get to sleep anytime before 11:30 at night.
When do you take your naps. (assuming a normal adult sleep schedule) I think that a nap at like 10:30 and no later than 1:00 is really beneficial (N=1, obviously.) But if I take a nap later in the afternoon, it sucks.
Also, do you use an alarm or wake up naturally? My sleeping time perception is pretty good, so if I concentrate on waking up after an hour or after 45 minutes, I usually do so. I never take a nap with an alarm.
Most of the literature I’ve read on insomnia pretty much said no napping after 1PM since it throws off the natural sleep cycle too much.
And a lot of recommendations for no napping at all unless you need it to get through the day.
ie – go to bed tired as possible.
Yep. Like I said, assuming a normal adult sleep schedule.
Insomniacs don’t want to relieve their sleep pressure though the day – no naps, no stimulants, no narcotic sleep aids.
If I can get them, I love the 1-2pm nap. For me that works great.
No alarm clock. If I think I want to wake up in an hour, I normally do.
Do you have to run the heat? When I was in my early 20s, I had a friend/coworker who was the same age who would turn on his truck in Houston in the summer and nap in the parking lot during lunch. I was never that committed, but I love me a good nap at home.
Michigan winters are usually too cold for a car nap. Unless the temps are above 30-something and the sun is out for some greenhouse effect.
Summer means a battle to find some good shade.
I also set the time on my phone so I don’t oversleep past my lunch break – which happened once or twice before.
I’ve been at work since 4:45, so I don’t want to hear bitching about lack of sleep.
Why so late?
That really does not follow logically. You could very easily have gotten a great deal of sleep, going to bed at 3pm yesterday or somesuch and be quite rested. If you didn’t accommotate your known schedule, that’s on you.
Milk can help.
I sleep like a rock at the bottom of the ocean. I get a good 12 hours a night on the weekends (asleep at midnight, up at noon, though sometimes its 1:00 or 2:00). I just loves me some sleep.
18 too young to smoke;
16 just right to vote (and too old for OMWC)
Was going to post the same thing. And don’t forget, 21 to drink alcohol or bet on a horse. 16 to drive a car. This multi-tiered adulthood in this country is fucking stupid.
Given how brain development goes, the various adult aptitudes will emerge at different times. The real problem is we’ve got them in the wrong order, and have picked static values when no two people reach mental maturity at the same rate.
Any age of majority is going to be inherently arbitrary, but it should at least be consistent. Let the consequences be what they may.
True. Therefore we need to have a department creating Age of Majority arbiters, who can then certify citizens as being ready for life’s major milestones. Do NOT make OMWC an arbiter for age of consent.
Yes.
Also, maturation is also dependent on expectations. Expect adult-childs until 26 or longer, you get that. Expect that a teenager will be able to provide for themselves and their family, you get that also.
I am winging this one so cut me some slack:
“White boys are still in dresses at ten years old. Apache boys have already killed their first man by that age.” – Geronimo
Ulysses Grant’s autobiography mentions doing hard farm work at age 11, and horse trading by 15.
If the Apaches are so tough, how can they be killed by ten year olds? Or is this a post-Sam Colt thing?
It’s simple Not Adahn, the under-ten Apaches murdered the older apaches in their sleep, so when the adult whites came along to fight, there were only child soldiers left
/completely making shit up like modern ‘Historians’.
Mind you, the prohibition on gambling is ostensibly because 20 year old “children” can’t be responsible with their money. But here, just sign these student loan documents for a quarter million dollars of non-dischargeable debt when you haven’t graduated high school…
Talk about a gamble.
That’s not gambling. In a gamble, you have a chance to come out ahead.
*applause *
Nice to see that Eric Garner didn’t die in vain.
Not to worry. Latest nannyism is raising tobacco age to 21, along with long guns.
I know 60 year olds that are too young to vote, and that’s me being generous with the fact they are totally misinformed and absolutely stupid, but yeah, anyone that doesn’t get why democrats want 16 year olds, felons, dead people, illegals, and especially the multi-vote caster, to vote, is not paying attention.
Rather than being alarmed by it I see it as desperation. I think their party is dying. Good fucking riddance I say.
The problem with that Suthen, is, if you will allow me a comparison, that these cunts are like the people that would rather burn down the house -with their family members still in it, to boot – to spite the bank that is evicting them for not paying their mortgage. And have no doubt that they will burn down the country before they lose power.
You know what other political party was a kingmaker…
The Monarchists?
The Lancastrians?
Bank of Braavos?
The Plantagenets?
Slammer gets a standing of for just showing up? *Joins in because why not?*

Thanks, Mike. Psst, I knew that.
Yeah, that dawned on me about 1 second after hitting “Post Comment”.
*hangs head in shame*
Don’t worry, we discontinued participation trophies. So you won’t have an embarassing momento of this event.
Did that leave a mark?
It increased the available operating budget by cutting expenditures on useless awards.
So now we have more money for Karaoke parties?
Fuckin A, bruh

SEA SMITH NEVER SLEEP
HE SLEEP! BY SLEEP, MEAN RAPE.
I have heard of sleep walking, so I guess sleep raping can happen…
Swiss was a poet
and I didn’t know it!
Break down, bend down, open up wide
Let a freaky looking doctor take a look inside
He said he saw I was real loose where I should be tight,
And accused me of taking it up the ass in the middle of the night
Told him I was loose but I was no queer
T’is happening cause I had a nuclear weapon built in there
He said with a weapon like that I could rule the nation
And asked me to give him a demonstration
So I farted real loud after jerking my meat
And killed the old guy before he could make a tweet
I didn’t know the UK had a “Culture Secretary”. It’s like these people go out of their way to make themselves into Rand villains.
Who else awards the grants to the most inscrutable and pretentious twat for their “performance art project”
The country is as demoralized as the USSR ever was. That was Rand’s inspiration so, yeah. I cant believe how quickly they have gone down that road. It is really sad to see.
You knew they had a Ministry of Silly Walks though, right?
Not a fan of her protagonists, but Rand’s antagonists are *excellent*. Ellsworth M. Toohey is one of my favorite characters in all of literature.
Her villains are definitely more interesting than her heroes. Her self-described romantic style and inability to free her protagonists from her own self-concept leaves them completely unrelatable high-functioning autistic Ubermenschen
The heroes are kinda flat because they are made up out of whole cloth. The villains aren’t flat because three sentences into their introduction the reader realizes they know someone just like that.
Kind of flat? Eye of the beholder, I suppose. Ellsworth nails the progs with this, though: Don’t allow men to be happy. Happiness is self-contained and self-sufficient. Happy men have no time and no use for you. Happy men are free men. So kill their joy in living. Take away from them what they want. Make them think that the mere thought of a personal desire is evil. Bring them to a state where saying ‘I want’ is no longer a natural right, but a shameful admission. Altruism is of great help in this. Unhappy men will come to you. They’ll need you. They’ll come for consolation, for support, for escape.
What’s ‘Harmful Content’?
“It’s whatever we say it is”
It is content that is harmful.
It’s right there in the name.
These morons read 1984, Brave New World, and the Rand novels, and decided they were instruction manuals…
Zuck et al. should just cash out of that shitstorm. It was fun while it lasted but it’s clear that they will eventually be destroyed.
It seems the best move if he doesn’t have higher aspirations. I mean, he’s got plenty of money to buy an island and live in peace forever with all the booze, hookers and blow a guy could ask for. But I’m also guessing he isn’t wired like me and he ‘needs’ the spotlight.
He likes the power. With these people it is not about the money anymore, but about being the cool kid.
Oh I know. I just find it interesting that these people choose something that is more likely to end in tragedy than taking the money and just living life. How many of these people who crave the spotlight and power are truly happy? How many become a ball of stress and ruin every relationship with loved ones? How many end up going too far and ruining whatever public good will they attained? How many end up dying young because of the extra stress or because they became addicted to something and went overboard?
But yeah, I’m guessing that’s why I’m posting on the internet and not running a billion dollar company…
The thing is, even if Facebook totally and completely self destructs, Zuck will still be in the wealthiest 1%.
He hit the top. There’s pretty much nothing that can happen to totally ruin him and everything he’s attained. Until the day he dies he’ll have national if not global name recognition, millions of dollars in assets (unless he’s an utter, absolutely moron in spite of climbing to the top of the tech titan world), and an ability to generate large revenues just by existing due to past achievements.
If he dies ‘young’, he’ll have gone out on top. And since these people crave power more than anything else, they won’t feel remorse or suffering about broken or destroyed relationships. It just doesn’t matter to that class of person.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed legislation Sunday that will raise the buying age for nicotine products in Illinois to 21.
Now on to lowering the voting age to 16 and doing something unconstitutional about guns.
How did you get a look at his briefing book?!?!?!
Oh, it’s nicotine products now. Not tobacco. I wonder why that is…
(Actually not wondering at all)
Back 15 years ago I was doing some work for an Ad Agency and they had a contract with a tobacco company. We put together a brochure site for a new product, the copy went to the lawyers who changed every reference to nicotine or tobacco to “nicotine satisfaction”.
That is what they were selling…nicotine satisfaction.
High capacity e-cig devices?
I notice that fixing the state’s debt and financial problems aren’t on the agenda.
That dirt bike article made no sense. Unless the bike was possessed by an evil spirit, like a gun.
Well, clearly it was made from guns that had been melted down in a buyback program, and the bike is haunted by their restless animi.
The throttle inadvertently caused fuel and air to be discharged into the combustion chamber.

The major crackdown comes after growing anger at sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Youtube for failing to remove abusive content – such as self-harm pictures, terror videos and extremist material.
Earlier this year Ian Russel blamed Pinterest and Instagram for the death of his 14-year-old daughter Molly, who used the sites to view self-harm images.
And the need for radical measures was reinforced after the terrorist who shot dead 50 in the Christchurch mosque attack last month filmed his attack on Facebook.
It’s evil spirits, all the way down.
For one tenth the prices of a SSB, I will perform an exorcism that will drive out those evil spirits!
It’s a bargain at twice the price, so you can claim it as a cost reduction!
failing to remove abusive content – such as self-harm pictures, terror videos and extremist material.
“extremist material” = “anything to the right of Mao”
Yep. Personal tragedy used to fucking ruin complete stranger’s lives:
Earlier this year Ian Russel blamed Pinterest and Instagram for the death of his 14-year-old daughter Molly, who used the sites to view self-harm images.
Same ol’, same ol’ shit the censors always say. How tiresome. Who is dumb enough to fall for that horseshit?
I remember when the left, at least a vocal part of the American left like the ACLU, opposed censorship. Of course back then, it was evil righties doing it (except for dogooders like Tipper Gore).
Are you sure they were anti-censorship at large, and not just opposed to being censored (not caring if others were)?
^^^^THIS^^^^
At that time their goal was to force others to let them peddle/defend marxist ideas without being run out of ti=own for peddling that evil shit.
The latter…
Yep. The ACLU tossing away the mask was a bit of a jolt. I was a bit surprised at first but after thinking about it for two seconds I thought “Of course they did”.
If there is one awesome thing that happened because of Trump being elected, it is that it has completely destabilized the conniving and lying leftist to provide transparency into what they really are about. And nobody should be surprised to find out that the very asshats that claimed they were the defenders of liberty, when what they really wanted to take over institutions and legitimize some of the most evil and vile shit ever (marxist/fascist tyrannical government), now are championing this evil shit.
Israeli election: Far-right, pro-cannabis libertarian may be kingmaker
Sounds like a Nazi.
Far-right libertarian?
Someone doesn’t know what libertarian means.
They don’t know what far-right means either, that’s the real source of the misunderstanding. Obama circa 2008 qualifies as “far-right” in the modern parlance.
We need a UN commission to standardize the left-to-right political spectrum scale.
And the solution they propose will be the same one they do for fixing AGW plus the need of some blue helmets to rape the locals?
Well- that UK internet article is such a downer I think I’ll watch some machine tool porn.
thicc ?
Here’s a good one.
That was…fascinating.
Link poetry is a new genre.
Still gay though, right?
If Swiss thinks that the way to make people read the links is to force them to read poetry first, he is delusional.
Totally gay.
Get your Wadsworth.

No, it looks like 13th, but some of the previous 12 might have been off-topic.
THE Culture Secretary told Mark Zuckerberg to his face that the UK government would become the first in the world to introduce a legal crackdown on Facebook’s harmful content.
I take it the “Culture Secretary” isn’t intended to preserve British culture.
What gave it away?
Planes never crashed in Soviet Union!
The Boeing scandal is an indictment of Trump’s corporate America
Runaway capitalism caused a company that is effectively nationalized and utterly dependent on the ex-im bank to maintain cash flow to build an airplane that crashed.

Stunning indictment of Trump’s America using a plane that was developed long before he took office and received final FAA approval six weeks after inauguration.
It takes years of r&d, design and construction that was being done long before Trump was even a thought for a candidate.
NYT editorial board get their hate on. Two minutes is not nearly enough.
It’s no secret that Mr. Trump had a problem with Ms. Nielsen, whom he considered “weak” on matters of border security. The president and Stephen Miller, his hard-line immigration adviser, have long grumbled privately about the secretary’s insufficiently brutal approach to the surge in migrant families across the border. Last May, stories surfaced about Mr. Trump publicly berating her in front of the entire cabinet for failing to stop the crossings. Ms. Nielsen was said to have drafted a resignation letter at the time.
In her resignation letter released on Sunday, Ms. Nielsen noted, “For more than two years of service beginning during the Presidential Transition, I have worked tirelessly to advance the goals and missions of the Department.”
This is hardly something to brag about. Whatever the secretary’s personal views, and no matter how impossible her job, she was the face of some of the administration’s most poorly conceived and gratuitously callous policies. At best, she was complicit and, yes, hopelessly weak.
———–
The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said of Ms. Nielsen’s departure, “It is deeply alarming that the Trump administration official who put children in cages is reportedly resigning because she is not extreme enough for the White House’s liking.”
If Ms. Nielsen wants to perform one last act of public service, she could come clean about the costs of the policies she enforced over the past year and half, not only to the desperate migrants seeking a better life in the United States, but also to the thousands of employees of her department charged with carrying out an inhumane and ineffective set of policies.
Nobody ever separated children from their “families” until Trump’s Border Shock Brigade came along.
Also- I am 100% in favor of migrants who want to come here and build a better life, if they come to the front door and ring the bell. And any member of Congress who has been there since before the 2018 election needs to STFU about Trumphitler’s evil immigration policy until they do their fucking job and fix the laws.
The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said of Ms. Nielsen’s departure, “It is deeply alarming that the Trump administration official who put children in cages is reportedly resigning because she is not extreme enough for the White House’s liking.”
Maybe he could tap the Obama administration official who put children in cages to moderate things a bit.
“We’re going to build one UUUGE camp to keep migrants in until processed. So UUUGE we need to borrow some space from Mexico. In fact, we’re just going to keep them all in Mexico, and build a camp wall along the border.”
” the secretary’s insufficiently brutal approach ” – no agenda here, just objective facts!
“the administration’s most poorly conceived and gratuitously callous policies” – “enforcing the law”
Whips and chains!
Hard-line, grumbled, brutal, gratuitously callous, hopelessly, deeply alarming, extreme, inhumane. And that is just from your excerpt. How can anyone read that shit and not think they are being brainwashed?
Public. School.
Doesn’t stop there, Suthen. Have you seen the stupid shit that goes on these days at institutions that require you to pay more than most people pay for a mortgage to get a worthless degree?
Also- I am 100% in favor of migrants who want to come here and build a better life, if they come to the front door and ring the bell.
The problem being, as alluded to in your next sentence, that the front door has barbed wire, concrete, a trap door, is 1 foot high and 6 inches wide.
Well, we don’t want the morbidly obese after all.
Or people of my height.
gratuitously callous policies
///Changethelaws
You know what is the perfect embodiment of govt uselessness? Liquor laws and the yearly hog pile at the legislature to get your pet law/tweak passed.
That entire story is about various groups, (craft brewers, bars, distributors, Teamsters, etc) all groveling to keep their state sanctioned carve out (or to get a new one). A sane person would simply say, “look we will have a law about how old you have to be to drink and what the BAC limit is and the rest is up to you bastards. If some bar wants to buy directly from Budweiser, so be it.”
Having to get a special permit so that finishers at the TC Marathon can be served a beer is crazy.
McDonnell tried to take on the liquor distribution model in Virginia in a modest way, getting rid of the ABC stores, and got his ass handed to him.
Do not underestimate how much political clout the various alcohol interests have. Ever since the repeal of Prohibition the impetus has been to interweave the alcohol business and government at every step of the process.
When they did away with the liquor control board retail monopoly in Washington state they just imposed a tax so gratuitous that it increased the price of liquor about 15-20% over the monopoly prices to punish the voters. The voters were so incensed that they voted in single party rule for the next decade…
Whiskey rebellion. It happened for a reason and was put down for a reason.
It was common at that time for people to use whiskey as currency. Whiskey has inherent value. Numbers printed on paper do not. People preferred whiskey as payment to govt issued currency. That is why govt keeps such a short leash on the liquor industry with permits, taxes and captured markets. They will not tolerate competition that completely undermines their power.
Maybe you will make it bad enough you end up like New Jersey – so bad it’s good.
Here many restaurants can’t be bothered to pay the corrupt powers that be to get a liquor license so they are BYOB. Go to the liquor store, buy whatever beverages you want to accompany your dinner, then proceed to your favorite restaurant – that’s how Judge Napolitano and I do it. My wife and I usually bring a bottle of white or a couple of beers. I’ve seen folks pouring from growlers, popping champagne, or mixing martinis at their tables.
Actually, we’ve been on a pretty good trajectory here in Minnesoda. We finally beat back the liquor lobbyists to get Sunday sales. We have a thriving craft beer scene. The local cronies were finally thwarted by Total Wines so we have big discount stores.
That story though. How hard is it for the normies to see that it is nothing except for crony carve outs? Can’t sell in supermarkets because that would screw over the liquor stores.
And like Stillhunter said below, the Teamsters throw their weight behind the status quo because the distributors have promised them all their shipping. doG forbid that small brewers be able to sell directly to bars and maybe use non-union shippers to deliver their kegs.
Notice how the Teamsters were given extra attention by the critters. Cement shoes for you!

Only partially related: When I was in 6th grade back in the early 80s, I was able to go to a ‘College for Kids’ summer session at University of Wisconsin-River Falls (moo U!). One of the classes I picked was microbiology. Part of the class was growing microbes on Petri dishes. I was staying with my grandmother who was a typical housewife and clean freak from that generation. I stuck one of the Petri dishes on the top rim of the toilet bowl. She couldn’t believe when I showed her how ‘dirty’ her clean toilet was! That dish had some awesome growth and was super cool to look at under a microscope at 12 years old.

They drag all sorts of other crap up there to “See how it behaves in low gravity”.
The 19th century mild recipe I linked to last week looked more like a heavily hopped IPA.
This one from the early 20th century is looking more modern. Still pale, the ABV is higher than norm for today, but not as much, but the hopping is way down from that last one.

I’d be willing to bet it has a lot to do with how isolated people in ‘civilized society’ have become. People don’t interact as much as they used to. People don’t go to church like they used, not saying that’s a bad thing. People don’t talk even when they are around other people. 3 or 4 Marriages have become extremely common, the amount of ‘step’ siblings is through the roof.
I must be the most boring guy in the world.
You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t enjoy a good kick in the nuts occasionally.
I read that and thought ‘that guy is trying to stay married.’
Some people can’t stand spice, other people prefer everything drenched in hot sauce.
It is not just Boeing, a once magnificent company, that is being condemned – it is the US’s wider economic, political and regulatory structures. What is not required is a short-term software fix on the faulty MCAS system that automatically adjusts the plane’s flight trajectory, along with an improved safety manual and training for pilots, which is Boeing’s response so far. What is needed is a root-and-branch overhaul of the intersection between capitalism and democracy in the US. The current set-up – and the accompanying libertarian, anti-state, anti-regulation philosophy – literally kills people.
Yes, yes, of course. Let the hatred flow through you. Seethe. Marinate in your jealous envy.
“…a root-and-branch overhaul of the intersection between capitalism and democracy in the US.”
Now what could that possibly entail?
I’m guessing they’re gunning for the removal of both capitalism and any vestigages of democracy.
You win.
How dare they fix the purported problem, rather than ramble down the road to serfdom.
Who’d a thunk flying an object of significant mass holding dozens to hundreds of people several miles above the ground would be inherently dangerous… but it’s supposed deregulation that kills people. SMH.
anti-state, anti-regulation
Because there are no regulations on the aircraft/travel industry and it definitely is not a sort of government monopoly.

How is it that all these tech guys who started off as straight capitalists in their mom’s basements or dorm rooms have turned into totalitarian pricks?
I remember when Bill Gates was dragged in front of congress and pilloried but I dont remember the details. I do remember that right after that he became a raging proggie. I only remember that my impression at the time was that they went after him because they looked up one day and realized he had 100B dollars and thought “Whoa. This guy has way too much juice. We better fit him with a leash”
How is it that all these tech guys who started off as straight capitalists in their mom’s basements or dorm rooms have turned into totalitarian pricks?
That’s more stereotype than reality. Gates and Zuckerberg, for instance, come from deeply left-wing and very wealthy families. Their politics are pretty typical to their social class.
“How is it that all these tech guys who started off as straight capitalists in their mom’s basements or dorm rooms have turned into totalitarian pricks?”
Once you have broken loose and are making money, your priorities change. Instead of wanting to make inroads and capturing the market, you now want government to protect your monopoly from other go-getters that would force you to keep innovating and delivering value to keep making money. That shit is hard work.
What I said but better.
Or you could just stash your cash in mutual funds and collect a huge check every month, then take your grandchildren fishing.
I dont have that endless hunger for more money more power more more more. Some things in life are really good and the really good ones dont involve money or power.
If their minds were geared that way, they’d have ended up as tree-farmers rather than building tech companies.
How can you properly guide the clueless peasantry that way?
They have their cash-cows. Socialism is how to put up roadblocks behind them so they don’t have to worry about competition.
Wait just a minute. I have it on good authority that the Republican Party is the party of rich folks.
Microsoft was being investigated for monopolistic behavior. At the time they never bothered to lobby the government. Since then they are big in lobbying have become even more monopolistic. Gotsta play the game.
(no euphemism! alert!)
OT: I somehow managed to survive the weekend without EF; though I had an unlucky encounter with a critter.
Saturday morning I get a text from a neighbor to help clean out the neighborhood pool sand filters. After lunch we show up in the pump room with two shop vacs to pull the sand out of these two very large fiberglass containers that can hold 600 pounds of material each.
Rule #1 – never stick your hand in a hole without checking it out first.
So I stick the hose into the 8″ opening (no euphemism!) on top and start vacuuming up the top layer of sand. I feel something furry (no euphemism!) brush past my hand. Thinking it was some filter material that I hadn’t pulled out (no euphemism!), I yank the hose out and see something gray dart by the hole opening. And pop! a racoon comes out. I let out a manly (girly!) scream, jump backwards and end up tearing a 6″ gash in my back. I run out of the room. My neighbor saw the whole thing happen and comes out of the pump room laughing his ass off.
We had some beer after that – and still haven’t figured out where the racoon went. And I was lucky I wasn’t bitten.
At least this was not a “guess where the gerbil ended” kind of story…
You avoided that bite by tearing a 6 inch gash in your back. That might not have been the best trade off. 🙂
Jumped back into a power meter that had it’s metal tag sticking straight out. Amazingly it didn’t tear my t-shirt at all but left something that looks like a rapier wound; but no bleeding.
“Rapier wound” sounds like something Steve Smith leaves behind. On your behind.
STEVE SMITH LEAVE CLAYMORE WOUND
The bite wouldn’t be bad, only something like 99.44% of raccoons have rabies, so you would have been okay.
When I worked for the state Epidemiology group, one of the other young guys who worked there got bit by a raccoon. Which he then beat to death and took to a vet so they could do rabies testing — this is apparently the right thing to do. He said rabies shots hurt like hell.
“never stick your hand in a hole without checking it out first”
Damn Lord. That isnt even barely a euphemism.
Man, that’s full of euphemisms.
Dammit EF. I refreshed and the first thing I see is your comment. Since it’s thunderstorms and heavy rain all day I am stuck in the house, thus I already made a vodka…which is now all over my screen.
Never stick your comment in a thread before checking for euphemisms.
If we had to wait to check for euphemisms before commenting, then there’d be no comments, and no STEVE SMitH!
Just wait until the next full moon before you get confident in that claim.
I don’t know – Werecoon sounds racist.
AIN’T I AWESOME?
God, that fucking little twink is so tiresome.
Is that a meeting for narcissists anonymous?
It does say ‘Obama Foundation’ on the podium, so…yes.
Davis now 0-for-44, closing in on futility mark
Davis was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday’s 15-3 loss to the New York Yankees. He is 0-for-23 with 13 strikeouts this season and is hitless in 44 at-bats since a second-inning double off James Shields of the Chicago White Sox last Sept. 14.
Davis is two shy of the record for consecutive hitless at-bats by a position player, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Eugenio Velez went hitless in his final 46 at-bats of the 2011 season, one more than the previous mark shared by Bill Bergen of Pittsburgh (1909), Dave Campbell of San Diego and St. Louis (1973) and Craig Counsell of Milwaukee (earlier in 2011)
He’s really trying though you guys.
Really weird how he went from being such a dangerous hitter to totally inept following his big contract. Obviously some serious mental shit going on there. Instead of a hitting coach they should get him a therapist.
Really weird how he went from being such a dangerous hitter to totally inept following his big contract.
Cough, cough, Joe Flacco, cough, cough.
I am no Joe Flacco apologist, but damn, comparing him to Chris Davis is cold.
Was talking on another channel about this. His contract averages out to $23M/year. So assuming he doesn’t break the record, 1 for 45 will get him about 20 hits this year. Let’s treble that for fun. Nothing like paying $300k/hit.
And he’s not even making contact, his strikeout rate is over 50%.
Florida sheriff’s office bloodhound renamed from ‘Rommel’ to ‘Scout’ after complaints of Nazi connotations
Secret Nazi dog!
Nazi connotations like being
executedforced to commit suicide for trying to kill Hitler?Ross Hagen hit hardest.
Even if no one else here appreciated this, *I* appreciated it. Hellcats is one of my favorite MSTs.
Hellcats is great – was referencing Sidehackers, another Ross Hagen movie that’s a much quoted favorite in my house. My poor son!
Count Dankula should offer them a replacement.
Not gonna lie. Not a fan of cops naming their dogs after Nazis. I already know that they don’t care about my rights, no need to rub it in.
The Desert Fox wasn’t a member of the Nazi party – at least according to Wiki
He was an aristocrat, and he despised the Nazi party and their takeover of power. In fact, if I remember correctly, he was ordered killed by Hitler because he saw Rommel as a threat to their power. Rommel wore the uniform because that was what was expected of him and he loved his country despite the fucking idiots he did not like that were running it. But shit, marxist idiots will idiot on and demand absolute perfection, so they can deligitimize and destroy everything and usher in the new marxist utopia (past performances to be ignored).
He was a straight white man. Therefore, nazi.
Shit, can’t argue against that sort of logic man…
He’s a tank and he likes the heat, why not Rommel?
They read his book, that magnificent son of a bitch?
“Governor signs law raising buying age for nicotine products to 21”
I like the one kid in the background smiling thinking “thank you government for protecting me from the evils my mom tells me about!” Once he realizes that cigarettes would give him that bad boy image and increase his chances of getting laid he’ll change his mind. That’s not a reason to start smoking kids, just a benefit to hook up with that freaky chick who may stab you break up with her.

By hook, or by crook…
But, Neal — who spent months preparing a case to obtain Trump’s tax returns — won’t take no for an answer. Using a little-known provision in the tax code, the Massachusetts Democrat is requesting the tax returns under 6103, a statute that allows the chairman of House Ways and Means panel to make requests for individuals’ tax information. Neal and Democrats have argued that the law clearly states that if the chairman asks for the information, the secretary of the Treasury “shall furnish” it.
“This was a very reasonable approach,” Neal told reporters last week. “We wanted to make sure that the case we constructed was one that stood up under the critical scrutiny of the courts.”
That little-known provision allows the chairman, and only the chairman, access to an individual’s return, I believe. And when the contents of those returns are “leaked” to the press and the public will Neal be impeached, and then jailed? Or will everyone just shrug and say, “How could we have known?”
It’s a mystery.
This is what demoralized idiots look like. They cant think. They cant learn. They cant solve problems. Didn’t Maddow already do this, live on television? What a bunch of morans.

Furnish him a hard copy of Trump’s returns in a secure room with no copier and a guard to make sure he doesn’t try to take anything when he leaves.
Make sure to check his pants on the way out.
/Blumenthal
You mean Berger.
Sydney… Sandy…. both DNC apparatchiks with girl’s names, whatever…
The best would be for the new IRS commissioner to say “Due to the importance of those tax returns, I copied them to my hard drive to make sure they were safe. Then my hard drive crashed. Sorry. No copies anywhere. No way to recover from backups. Nothing. Gone. I plead the Lerner here.”
I’m pretty sure the request also is supposed to be part of a legitimate investigation where there is evidence of wrongdoing.
Morning Glibs! I survived my second trip to Brett land in a month. My team ended up going 1-3, which was disappointing but for some reason they had moved us up 2 tiers, so we played against some tough teams. I scored 1 of our team’s 3 goals. But the weather was nice, and the hotel was across the street from the rink, so we had less travel time and more sitting around by the pool and drinking time. Our A team repeated their national championship so it wasn’t all losing.
We also got the official word that two of our Paralympic players are moving to Nashville this summer, and one of the guys who played on both teams is moving to Ohio. Which means I will most likely move up and play for both A and B team next year. Somehow after only 4 seasons I have worked my way into the best team in the US. Not too bad for a guy who’s almost 50.
Not too shabby.
Congrats.
Did you submit an article on sled hockey? I started to scold you for not doing so and then my feeble memory goosed me. If you haven’t, you should. If you have, you should do another one.
I started one at the beginning of the season, then it expanded to a series of 3, and now, poof, the season is over, so I’ll have to change the ending a bit. I want to include some photos so I think the next week or two will be realistic to submit.
Perhaps you could go into the physical and psychological benefits of competitive sports for….or I could just shut up and let you write your articles.
I look foreword to reading, very much.
Congrats, Kevin!
Sounds like a fun weekend and I’m happy you buried one. Congrats too on your promotion! Are the guys who are leaving D or F?
Kind of both. “A” team does not play strict positions, they kind of swarm around and switch positions a lot. The two guys usually line up at forward though. Coaches will need to rethink our strategy to more of a team game. Usually the strategy was “just get it to one of the Paralympic guys and they’ll take it from there.” Next year we will have only ONE Paralympic player, down from three this year, and FIVE last year.
I am hearing that a few other teams are going through some changes too, so next year might be wide open in the top tier. Some of the teams they played this weekend put up a good fight.
Sorry I missed you this weekend, my children did not cooperate.
No worries! I decided I still like your part of the country a lot, so I’ll see if I can convince Mrs. TOK to visit more frequently. Yesterday we ate at Joe’s on the bay and sat by the water. It was glorious.
Congrats
speaking of fungi and bacteria:
A brief history of the ball pit
Anybody who thinks a ball pit is a soft play area never played in one as a kid. We mostly used them to perform WWE moves and pelt each other.
Ball pits are gross. As are bounce houses. Frikkin’ snot collectors.
Snot? My stepson manages a Chuckee Cheese (sp?). More than once he has had to bag up the balls and take them to the car wash because some kid had shit in the ball pit. I never thought of it as a place handy for pinching a loaf, but then I am not 6 years old.
You couldn’t beat me and make me get in there.
I have 3 and 5 year old boys. Shit happens wherever they happen to be, although the younger one is better about that, so I think that phase of my life is coming to a close.
I want to say I’m surprised, but I’ve worked in a large amusement park. People are nasty.
Best way to embarrass the parents is to shit or puke in a public place that will make them wish they were not there….
I think I was 7 or 8 years old when I cleared a McDonald’s with a projectile vomit right in the middle of the cashier lines. The combination of whole milk, donuts, 96 degree heat and the spinny thing at the playground did not sit well with me.
Best part was I hurled again in the eating area as my mother was attempting to help clean up the first session. At that point, mom grabbed me and my sister and ran out the door.
It was vienna sausage (two cans), a strawberry Fanta and 100+ degree weather for me. It wasn’t Mcdonalds, Howard’s sporting goods store. I dont remember my age…5-7 I guess. Because half of it came out of my nose I still cannot eat vienna sausage to this day.
But once the 1970s rolled around, parents were increasingly more cautious as to where and how they let their children play, leading to a rise in indoor play spaces
I’m skeptical of that reasoning & timeline. I think the rise of indoor play spaces was in addition to conventional playgrounds, particularly attached to pizza parlors or fast food restaurants, not a replacement then. Playgrounds where I grew up were little different from the early 80’s until the mid-90’s when plastic crap and getting rid of bare metal structures became the norm.
The problem being, as alluded to in your next sentence, that the front door has barbed wire, concrete, a trap door, is 1 foot high and 6 inches wide.
Yes, exactly. Time for a major remodel.
We’ve been letting in between 1 and 1.5 million new immigrants per year for as long as I’ve been alive, which ain’t exactly miserly. It’s the sole source population growth since about 1980.
“Time for a major remodel.”
Don’t worry. As soon as the R’s have both houses and the oval office they will get right on it.
*tendrils of smoke begin curling out if my ears*
Well don’t keep us in suspense! If your ears…. what?
By the way, listened to a lot of Mandolin Orange this weekend. Thanks for the introduction!
You are very welcome.
In fairness I think it was someone else here who turned me on to them but I cant remember who.
Reason #219 why I try to avoid large cities as much as possible.
Medieval diseases are making a comeback in major American cities thanks to the increasing amount of feces on the streets.
Huh. An actual role for public health departments. Too bad they’re preoccupied with banning tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, in open air parks and public sidewalks.
And the guns. Don’t forget the guns.
Oh, right. Yes, need to make sure that the public health departments are armed so they can carry out their mission.
And offering free needles and a safe place to shoot up.
Get out!
Next we’ll hear some crazy-talk about how all the tax-dollars that used to go into providing services are instead being diverted into public sector salaries and pensions.
Another little tidbit from that tax return story:
Tax law experts are divided about whether or not Neal would issue a subpoena on top of his request or whether the 6103 authority implies the power to receive the information on its own. In that case, the question is whether a subpoena actually undermines the chairman’s 6103 authority.
“A subpoena is a tactical decision. It is not required,” said Andy Wright, former associate counsel for President Barack Obama.
Who would you ask about this, if not a former Obama administration official? That’s definitive, baby.
Nicely done Swiss!
New Zealand’s Privacy Commissioner to UK Cultural Secretary: “hold my beer.”
“‘Facebook cannot be trusted. They are morally bankrupt pathological liars who enable genocide (Myanmar), facilitate foreign undermining of democratic institutions,'” NZ Privacy Commissioner John Edwards posted to Twitter last night, in his most pointed attack on the social network yet.”
I don’t think governments have “secret” plans to deal with what they perceive to be problems. But this global attack on social media makes me think a bunch of leaders around the world have been bitching about social media for some years and now see this as an opportunity.
I thin social media is a curse upon humanity as it exacerbates man’s worst tendencies. That said, the governments are actively looking to yoke those tendencies and re-purpose them for something even worse.
“it exacerbates man’s worst tendencies”
Assholes tend to be the loudest, and the most vocal. That’s not new. The broad platform is.
As terrible as they have become, social media is still a more-or-less open exchange of ideas. Most governments hate that.
So their John Edwards sucks ass too?
Seems like we should have stayed out of WW2 and let Hitler keep the UK. Assholes.
Why just saying that makes you Hitler.
Meh, we’re all Hitler now.
The real thought experiment is “Would the world have been better off if Kaiser Wilhelm II had won WW1?”
Nobody ever hears of Corporal Hitler. But, eventually, Imperial Germany and Bolshie Russia probably have at it.
Naw, increased support for various White Russian factions breaks the Red Army, and no one ever hears the name Josef Stalin.
No, the real thought experiment is “Would the world have been better off if Napoleon had won the War of the Sixth Coalition”
“Many were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans.”
“What if Muhammed had converted to Christianity on one of his youthful trading trips into Syria?”
This is the concept behind Harry Turtledove’s “Agent of Byzantium”.
“Archeologists have discovered the remains of a city from 12,000 years ago in North Africa. Evidence indicates that life there was very brutal and violent. My, how things have changed in only 12,000 years.” – Jay Leno joking about a contemporary news story.
I doubt that would have made much difference.
Well, if they stuck to killing and enslaving each other and hadn’t branched out into killing and enslaving other people, that would have been a net positive.
The idea in the story is that the Eastern Roman Empire and the Persian Empire remain the world superpowers and don’t fall to the Moslem pressure.
A little far-fetched since the Sassanids were sitting on the ruins of the Parthians, who had sat on the ruins of the Selucids, who had sat on the ruins of the Persians.
“The Persian Empire in the Sasanian era was interrupted by the Arab conquest of Persia in 651 AD”
This is the one that doesn’t happen in his novels. So it would be the Sassanids, but it is still considered the Persian Empire.
Or some Roman Officer noticed a particularly pesky caravan raider and had him executed.
– Robert Silverberg, Roma Eterna
Nice pick. I love Silverberg.

Well, then – I am not familiar with that book. To be fair, he does have a lot of books.
It likely would have been better had the allies not punished Germany for a war that it did not start, driving it into the arms of Hitler.
Clearly they didn’t need to import a totalitarian tyrant.

Speaking of movies which could not be made now…
I watched this last night. Scipio Africanus: The Defeat of Hannibal.
Skimming through the wiki, it’s even more unlikely to be reproducible. The film was funded by Benito Mussolini and was released in 1937, serving as propaganda for the fascist ambitions to invade North Africa.
A division of the Italian army was used as extras in the film, shortly before being transferred to duty in the Spanish Civil War.[1]
It’s not exactly the best movie I ever saw, but it features, at the end, a re-enactment of the battle between Hannibal and Scipio. featuring about a billion extras, and a cavalry troop of elephants. I was in awe. I wonder how many people they killed (for real) doing that. You couldn’t get insurance for that project, at any price, now.
Also, a couple of amazingly beautiful women, if you can believe that.
Battle of Waterloo also has a massive number of extra; according to Wikipedia :
Anyways the link above has the best part of the film – when cavalry meets formed infantry squares – the filming from the helicopter catches the width and breadth of the battle.
Someone is finally trying to class this cesspit up a bit. Good on you, Swiss.
Excellent lynx Swiss. Seriously, I read each and every one.

When Magnum first came back to Netflix, Spawn 1 and I watched every episode. Spawn 2, however, sat in for only one episode. Her response: “OMG, what is he wearing? And why is he so hairy? Gross!”.
She has since seen the error of her ways.
Tom Sellack, giving all us hairy guys a chance.
If you think that was a trick, just imagine all the fat broads who now get to call themselves “thicc.” They used to tie sweaters around their waists and ask if various clothes made their asses look fat, now, their worshipped. Go figure.
Don’t you want to answer “yes, your ass looks fat.”
I like ” no it’s not the clothes.”
The theme song is still my phone’s ringer.

It’s called climate change now you ignorant prick.

As of, like… April?
I don’t care how much late 80s nostalgia is being plundered, those shorts should be left in the dustbin of history as a bad idea.
Uh, so you’re like all the other frat boys? Come on, 8-10 years ago the college boys started wearing the Thomas Magnum shorts. You’re not transgressive.
If you’re going to wear shorts like those, you might as well wear a dress.
But I do think that if you can’t catch sight of your knees without it compromising your sense of masculinity, then you should unpack why that is.
I don’t think its the shorts that are compromising your sense of masculinity, bucko. I’d suggest iit has a lot more to do with the Britney Spears artwork and the reference to Nicki Minaj and Beyonce.
I’m thinking he has some other more pressing feelings he needs to sort out.

That was the thing back in the 70’s. The sports kind with the side stripes or cut off blue jeans. hell, I grew up in those things. Now you just come off looking like Jim Dangle.
No thanks.

Think Barnaby Jones in short shirt sleeves and khaki shorts.
So, not Barnaby Jones, then? The most casual he gets is suede shoes and a khaki sport coat.
Exactly – I thought it would be amusing to picture it.
Never change Japan!
Quarter of Japan’s adults under 40 are virgins, at least when it comes to the opposite sex
“…at least when it comes to the opposite sex”
Ok then. I think that kinda gives away the canard that they aren’t interested in sex. Perhaps there is something cultural going on there that makes relations with the opposite sex more trouble than it is worth?
I would be more curious if they weren’t so….inscrutable.
That’s my theory.
Men have decided the traditional Japanese “social contract” that the man works and the woman fully runs the home and the bank account isn’t worth it.
Herbivore men
I suspect it has a lot to do with population density. They are packed on that little island like sardines in a can.
With other social critters when the population density become too much most individuals begin to become dysfunctional. They stop socializing and stop reproducing.
Do they have the so-called “divorce rape” issue? I would think the divorce rate would be far lower than in the US, but that’s just an assumption on my part.
STEVE SMITH SMILE AT TYPO
Wasn’t actually a typo – “divorce rape” is men getting screwed over in divorce proceedings. I’m not sure if that’s an issue in Japan or not. And obviously if the divorce rate is a lot lower that’s going to be less of a concern anyway.
This is the part that’s most interesting:
“Analyzing data from 2010, the team also found that inexperience correlated with unemployment, temporary or part-time work and low income among men between 25 and 39. In particular, the proportion without experience jumped when annual income fell below ¥3 million ($27,000).”
Poor people there aren’t getting laid. It seems like the opposite here.
It pays to be unemployed here.
That just sounds like Japanese mgtows
Hey, I mentioned this over the weekend, but I’ll ask again.
I’m going to be in the Tampa area (St. Pete’s Beach) W-F and if anyone is around I could probably find a way to have a few drinks and let you bask in Minnesoda Nice for a while.
*Be warned, I can’t ship my bike there so you can’t profit from our meeting like OMWC and SP did
We only got $20 for it, so it was hardly worth the effort of cutting the lock and shlepping it to the pawnshop.
You know you weren’t in it for the money. You did it just for the satisfaction of a job well done.
I’ll try, but be warned that as The Other Kevin found out, my wife may find out she has to work or kids may come up. Email me at brett_bolt at yahoo and we’ll try to meet up. Thursday is probably our best bet, unless you are free during the early afternoon on friday.

President Trump on Monday formally labeled Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a “foreign terrorist organization,” in Washington’s first such designation for an entire foreign government entity.
The announcement, which officials said would put the military organization on the same level as terror groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, is the latest administration step to increase pressure on Iran.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, citing the IRGC’s ties to terror plots, said the designation recognizes a “basic reality.”
“This designation is a direct response to an outlaw regime and should surprise no one,” he said. “The IRGC masquerades as a legitimate military organization, but none of us should be fooled.”
In a statement, Trump said the unprecedented move “underscores the fact that Iran’s actions are fundamentally different from those of other governments.”
He warned: “If you are doing business with the IRGC, you will be bankrolling terrorism. This action sends a clear message to Tehran that its support for terrorism has serious consequences.”
I really hope this doesn’t lead to another war.
Max Boot and Bill Kristol just little teeny tiny stiffies.
got
I cant say I disagree with that, but yeah, we have no business getting into another shooting war. Fuck them every way you can. Blow their asses out of the water if they fuck with us in the gulf again, but for God’s sake no more troops sent overseas.
Next on the list, the Saudi religious police. What, why not?
I really hope this doesn’t lead to another war.
So far, the strategy hasn’t led that way with similar bad actors. And I’m inclined to think it won’t. On a certain level, “Fuck you. We want A, B, and C.”, while a blunter message, creates a clearer and more defined choice than “We want to be friends, but we’re really interested in seeing you act like a responsible member of the global community.”. You know where you stand and you have a clear set of demands to respond to.
I have no problem with pointing out the truth. If we have to lie and sugar coat an issue in order to prevent a bully from picking on us, then we’re pussies and might as well try buying them off with pallet full of cash. Revolutionary guard like a thug, get called a thug. OK by me.
“Bodycam footage captures the moment police shoot dead an unarmed woman, 24, inside her car after mistaking her for an attempted murder suspect – as officers are still cleared of wrongdoing
Body camera footage showing the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old woman by four San Jose police officers who mistook her for an attempted murder suspect has been released after the killing was ruled lawful.
Officers fired 40 rounds at Vasquez and her 28-year-old passenger Linda Carmona-Bruno after a nine-mile high-speed car chase that began just after 2am on December 25.”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6898687/Bodycam-footage-released-showing-police-fatally-shooting-unarmed-woman-24.html
Apparently she also rammed into a police car after the cops drew their weapons. You’ve got to wonder what the hell she was thinking. But then again, she had a face tat, so good judgement probably wasn’t one of her strengths.
I am betting she had warrants out for her, was illegal, or both and decided to try and escape. Genius!!
*hint: When you see the blue lights come on, you are caught. There is no point in doing anything after that other than pulling over, getting out of the car and being civil. You dont have to speak, you dont have to consent, but physically resisting is just plain stupid.
Yeah, it’s not the most sympathetic of cases. RIP.
Especially if she endangered other drivers. We don’t have sympathies for drunk drivers even when they only kill themselves.
I once outran the police /17yo LH in a 1968 Firebird
Yikes. I might know some 18yo dumbass that managed to evade the cops because he knew the countryside like the back of his hand and was riding a motorcycle one night and got off of the road onto some narrow trails in the woods. Or I might know somebody who told me about it 35 years ago. Maybe. I cant say for sure.
Did he lose his motorcycle in a boating accident?
Also.
Motorcycle = two-wheeled coffin
I will never sit on one again. Nor my children or grandchildren. If they wont listen to me I will just shoot holes in the engine block and set the fucker on fire.
Motorcycling is a skill that is hard to acquire. Most people learn the hard way. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve heard make lame excuses for their crashes or near misses. You can protect your fragile ego, or you can learn what you did wrong and be safer from now on. I’ve seen some stupid crazy moves and it should have been clear what they did wrong, but they insist it was the other guy’s fault. I’ve ridden at least 100k on motorcycles, much of it in densely packed Los Angeles. I’ve crashed maybe 5 times and ALL of them could have been prevented or mitigated by my technique.
Guns are dangerous too, if you wave them around, fail to verify the empty chamber, look down the barrel, walk around with your finger on the trigger, let cops carry them, etc.
I’ve had 3 motorcycles and driven 2 more. I DID learn the hard way, yes, but I only dropped my Kawasaki 650 once, but that was only because I wasn’t careful and not strong enough to pick it back up again. “Excuse me, sir, could you pick up my motorcycle for me?”
Yeah. That happened.
I have lifted dropped bikes for women a few times. I always show them how to do it themselves so they can do it next time. There’s a way even tiny people can lift even large bikes.
I thought every teenager did that with a dirt-bike? We always hoped the cops would try to take their Grand Vic down the trail like the Sheriff in First Blood.
“Air unit, we’ve got a smartass off-roading.”

“Bodycam footage shows officers demanding Vasquez get out of the car and threatening to shoot her before she rams a patrol car and they open fire ”
Ok, ya’ lost me. The cops didn’t shoot her. She shot herself.
I am with you there. If you do something that dumb and they shoot you, then you are not going to get my sympathy. Sorry.
Wow. What a misleading headline.
“LI mom says daughter couldn’t use President Trump for hero project
HOLBROOK –
A Lake Ronkomkoma mother claims her daughter was not allowed to have President Donald Trump as her hero for a class assignment.
When sixth-graders at Samoset Middle School were assigned to pick a hero on whom they would write a report, 11-year-old Bella Moscato said her choice was a no-brainer.
“Donald Trump is my hero,” she says.
The 45th U.S. president has been Bella’s idol since she was 8 years old, which is why she dressed up as Trump for a third-grade class project. But Bella says when she told her sixth-grade teacher that Trump was her choice for the hero project, the teacher nixed the idea.
Bella says her teacher said Trump “spreads negativity and says bad stuff about women” in front of another teacher and students in the class. The teacher told her to pick another hero.
Bella’s mother, Valerie Moscato, says she was outraged when her daughter called her from school about the incident. She says what the teacher did amounts to intimidation and censorship.”

” Unfortunately, Bella’s teacher immediately shut down the idea, claiming Trump “spreads negativity and says bad stuff about women.” To make matters worse, Bella’s teacher allegedly chided the idea in front of Bella’s classmates.
While the teacher said Trump was not an acceptable “hero,” Bella told News 12 her teacher specifically stated that former President Barack Obama would be acceptable.
“That’s what got me angry — I didn’t like that,” she said.”

TDS is totally not a real thing.
While the teacher said Trump was not an acceptable “hero,” Bella told News 12 her teacher specifically stated that former President Barack Obama would be acceptable.
Totally unbiased.
I suppose it’s better to nip the project in the bud than allow it and give an F (which is likely what would have happened).
Either way, not acceptble.
Mission accomplished!
No wonder the 2017 Republican tax cut remains so unpopular — the vast majority of Americans don’t think they got one at all.
As the annual IRS filing deadline of April 15 approaches, just 17% believe their own taxes will go down, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll found. By contrast, 28% believe they’ll pay more, 27% expect to pay about the same and 28% don’t know enough to say.
———
In reality, 8 in 10 Americans stood to receive tax cuts in 2018 under the law, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. Yet the cuts for most taxpayers are so small that many didn’t notice.
The lowest earning 60% of households stood to receive an average cut of less than $1,000, the analysis found. The top 1% of taxpayers could expect more than $51,000.
Something something repeat the lie…
A thousand bucks? You wouldn’t even bother to pick that up off the sidewalk if you saw it lying there. Trump fucked you!
sounds like the Supernintendo is in full CYA mode knowing they fucked up.

How many of those 60% are in the 47% who don’t pay any taxes at all? And when you have to lump 60% together and use such a high threshold…
We all got a federal tax cut. The states, counties and municipalities are still fucking us silly. That was part of the point of it, to put pressure on high tax states to stop making everyone else pay for their bullshit by making it visible to everyone. Trump should be shouting from the rooftops at every opportunity that the pain they are feeling is not from the feds. Stop voting for commies and their free shit.
I was getting an extra $100/mo.
Tax Return? No idea since any small tax return I would get is consumed by EF’s business.
I paid $5,000 less on $5,000 more in income, so I guess I’m $10,000 better off in 2018 compared to 2017.
That explains why I have been able to save up for the road trip more easily.
yeah, but you are a cis hetero white guy and you should be forking over at least half of your cash to people sitting at home playing X-Box or Playstation games all day in return for their vote going to one specific party peddling this commie shit.
So the MSM is taking Donald to task for not cutting taxes enough? Yeah, OK.
The cut for most came from the new withholding table, meaning the money was never taken in the first place, and the left is pointing to the size of tax returns, which is smaller for some because because that money was never taken in the first place to be ‘returned’. This will convince many, sadly.
And the number of idiots – including myself – who used the tax return to fund their vacation or $$$ to put down on a car.
Why would you give an interest-free loan to the feds?
I got to keep another $150/month. Apparently people don’t understand withholding. You could end up paying significantly less taxes overall even if you have to pay a bit more at the end of the year.
a company like Turbotax or HRBlock could probably put out some useful data if San Fran’s leftists wouldn’t burn down their buildings for it.
The illussion that they don’t look at your tax data outside of helping you file is part of what keeps them in business.
If they did release even aggregate information, their customers would panic and run around like headless chickens before dumping them. Too much of a risk to the bottom line.
In 2018 my wife and I made $25k more than 2017 and paid almost exactly the same taxes overall. We also ended up owing about the same out-of-pocket on tax day.
And- for Mike S-
Some vintage porn.
Fascinating. Thanks Brooksie.
