Just kidding, you don’t get to bring your majority tyranny up in here. This is a bitter and capricious oligarchy. We’ll just keep holding votes until we get our way. All in favor?
But what inspired the title was that the Turks appear to be taking lessons from the EU on how to run a vote. That is, they’ll keep holding votes until they get the result they want. “Democracy is like a train: when you reach your destination, you get off” – Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Here’s a straight-news NPR story that is so fair, it might cause you to think the writer has secret libertarian tendencies.
In case anyone wonders why I keep taking the “under” on $75/bbl oil. Sadly, $15/bbl from the well to the distribution head would still somehow result in gas prices above $2. I’m not really sure where they’ve got their light ‘stills tuned, but it hasn’t been for gasoline in years. That’s just a byproduct made in sufficient amount. I expect that taxes, detergents, and other additives (cough, corn liquor, cough) probably run to $1.40 a gallon or more. By the time you add in distribution and storage, that’s just how life is anymore.
I’m all in favor of a combination whiskey distillery and performing arts center, but I think by the time it opens, they’ll have to stuff Bob Dylan to have him there. At least Lou Reed will be around to help him open it.
Here’s one from the mumbler that I like.
Whiskey and art. I’m in.
I’ll make my own performing arts center! With whiskey! And blackjack! And hookers!
In fact, forget the performing arts center and the blackjack!
Ah, screw the whole thing.
As long as it’s scotch whisky, I’m in. Oh and I prefer medium priced hooker, no toothless cheap whoores and now 1000 a night types, please.
Obligatory theme music.

Nice illustration.
Democracy is like a train: when you reach your destination, you get off
You just hope that you reach your destination at the same time she reaches her destination.
I wonder how long it’ll be before Erdogan ends up like Il Duce.
My money is on Maduro getting his lamp post first.
Almost certainly, Sultan Erdogan still seems to have a pretty broad base of support.
Why would Erdogan invade Ethiopia?
True you would figure Syria would be first in the reconstituted Ottoman Empire. They’re exhausted by war and may see Erdogan as a better alternative to Assad.
According to a documentary I saw once the Ark of the Covenant is hidden away there. He needs it because it contains great power as a weapon. He can use it to smite all of his enemies, take over the world and have a thousand year reign.
I thought it was stored away in a massive Army warehouse?
No, that’s the Ark of the Government
Bravo!
Area 51.
Gonna need that ark with a 1000 year rain…
“The ruling party has said it will demand a re-run of the vote, citing alleged irregularities.”
This would never happen in Chicago or Philadelphia.
The losing part, that is.
And off to the showers after
“Defining ‘excessive’ is tricky.”
No, it isnt. Do you have a conviction? Due process has been served? If not then a penny is excessive. Not only excessive but illegal. Like gun control this issue is easily sorted out by pointing out that the crime committed is one committed by the state.
What I find heinous is law enforcement officials justify violating the Constitution they took an oath to uphold and defend with “well, it’s a useful crime fighting tool.” And you no one ever asks them where that exemption exists in the Constitution.
The FYTW Clause is where it exists
Oaths don’t mean shit to the unprincipled.
“Why are we moving toward less tools in the toolbox?” he asks. At the same time, he acknowledges the political pressure created by high-profile seizure cases such as Timbs.
Because it’s evil to take people’s stuff just because you suspect them of selling something icky.
He doesn’t need some “court” to tell him when a person’s guilty or not. That’s basically what he’s saying.
That whole “less tools” bullshit is an oily attempt to sidestep any discussion of constitutionality, decency, rule of law, etc.
It could have a chilling effect!
Powers.
Not tools, powers.
A screwdriver is a tool. A hammer is a tool. A chainsaw is a tool. What they want are *powers* and *authority*.
The first step toward winning this is reclaiming the meaning of words.
The second is forcing them to realize that making life easier for them is not the goal, or at least it’s not supposed to be.
Depriving people of their rights is supposed to be hard. That’s how you can tell a free society from an unfree one.
Even when convicted. Every law has a “fine not to exceed $X”. Is the value of what you are seizing more than you can legally assess a cash fine for? Congratulations, it is excessive.
This is what RGB said in the recent decision. It was more a rule of thumb that a mandate, but I think it was one of those “Don’t make us mandate this” type decisions.
So this asshole is too lazy to go and find the people who are actually manufacturing meth, so it’s easier for him to say “fuck it, we’ll just steal some property and call it a day”.
(SLD: Of course this shouldn’t be a crime in the first place)
(NSLD: And this cop is a fucking liar. Wait, that’s probably a standard libertarian disclaimer too.)
Stealing is a tool!
The cop is a tool.
Just like waterboarding. Police need to use waterboarding. How else are they going to get a confession? Do you want criminals to go free simply on the technicality of no confession simply because they weren’t waterboarded?
Sticking the effective cold medications behind the counter and prosecuting people trying to buy “too much” didn’t stop the production of meth, but nobody would ever suggest repealing those laws. Because the only way you can show you care about the children is by teaching them to continue to do things proven not to work.
Well not “nobody,” just libertarian cranks.
Libertarian cranks are nobodies.
Its the idiotic idea that “were gonna hit them where it hurts because they’ll just hide all their cash otherwise and become judgmentproof”
1) that could be applied to any crime. Bye bye car during traffic stop because you might not pay the citation.
2) it shouldn’t be your fucking job to bust up certain black market economies
3)fuck your banana republic bullshit. There’s a process for getting your fines from your victims. Follow it.
Utilitarianism reigns supreme.
My favorite asset forfeiture story. Not sure why it stuck in my head.
Florida, maybe 25 years ago – Cops seize hundreds of thousands of dollars from bank account and seize equipment and property from….a car wash. They claimed the car wash was used to clean cars used to transport dope so that dope sniffing dogs would not alert. They claimed no connection or knowledge of the car wash owner of the drug mules, only that his car wash was used by them. The guy’s business collapsed, he was broke and all of his employees out of a job.
No court, no evidence, just the word of the cops.
Christ… I’d be tempted to do something really illegal if that happened to me.
That’s insane. By that same reasoning the cops could seize the water and electric companies.
They might not ever get rich, but let me tell them what’s better than digging a ditch.
There ain’t no telling who you might meet, a drug dealer, or even a, Indian Chief.
Get! Out!
Nice music choice. Here is my favorite Dylan song – https://youtu.be/agdoeRpTfHg
thicc?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6901109/Demi-Rose-slips-incredible-curves-red-ruched-skintight-dress-night-out.html
Hey, she’s back from her trip to Thailand!
You must have missed her trip to Israel.
She has a bit of a Jessica Rabbit look going on there. She’s not thicc, she’s just been augmented that way.
Prediction: That goes terribly wrong in a few years.
In a few years? It’s already terrible.
Suboptimal, but still a 1
For the ladies:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6902551/Jude-Law-46-displays-incredibly-ripped-physique-unholy-white-trunks.html
Ok I gotta admit the dude is in pretty good shape for his age but the tidy whities are not doing him any favors.
You’d have thought they would have packed them with at least something to make him look impressive
I was in the pool! I was in the pool!
Meh. Nice bod. Unimpressive package.
He’s a grower not a shower…
I always LOL at the Mail’s idea of “incredibly ripped”. The guy is my age and I’m a couple decades past my prime too. I don’t need to see this; I’ll remember him as he was….
I was thinking the same. He’s in fine shape, especially for his age, but he’s not ripped.
“Lori Loughlin now facing 40 YEARS in prison after grand jury indicts her and 18 other parents on charges of fraud and money laundering in college admissions scandal”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6904263/Lori-Loughlin-facing-40-YEARS-prison-grand-indicts-18-parents.html
That seems a bit excessive.
“Person Is facing xx years in prison” is not something to take seriously. You can’t just take everything someone is charged with, add up the potential maximum sentence, have them run consecutively and say they’re facing that long in prison. That NEVER happens (well, outside of very serious crimes where the guilty party has a very long criminal history).
Now, she shouldn’t be facing any prison time for this, but she certainly isn’t facing 40 years.
Ftfy
The point of the piled on charges and ridiculous potential sentence is to ensure that the accused takes whatever plea deal the DA deigns to offer and does not even consider challenging it for one second.
Even when it goes to trial, though, the judge follows sentencing guidelines that aren’t going to add up to the maximum.
(And for that I’ll add in the bullshit that is the “trial tax”)
That’s ridiculous.
Meanwhile that witch-twat Hilary doesn’t have to face justice for her actions.
The system is whacked man.
“witch-twat”
Good, Rufus, good. Let the hatred flow through you…
Am I the only one who is saying so she bribed some private school people to get her kid, why is that a crime and why should I care?
No, you’re not.
No, you definitely are not.
And the funny part…
It’s always been that way.
Nope.
No, you are not. No malice. No violence or threats. No theft of property. Private school (albeit one that takes fed govt guaranteed dollars). Gobs of other people were doing it for decades and paid a lot more money than she did. She got a super discount because of her celebrity status (used to draw in the ones paying ten times that much).
I am not sure what the motive behind this prosecution is. They are targeting the celebrities instead of the stock brokers and crony industry barons.
On the one hand I am glad to see the game busted up…I have been saying for years that the ruling class needs to go. On the other hand…whoa guys. You are going a bit overboard here. We dont hang people for non-violent crimes.
“I am not sure what the motive behind this prosecution is. They are targeting the celebrities instead of the stock brokers and crony industry barons.”
The motive is entirely clear. The progs are sending a message to the idle rich that the rules very much apply to them, too.
I figure it’s just some grandstander bucking for a promotion.
I am not sure what the motive behind this prosecution is
Initially, I figured that Trump either bribed one or more of his kid’s way into school or had his way into school bribed by his parents, and this was going to be how they finally get him, but I think they would have dropped that hammer by now, maybe they are waiting for a conviction, or it’s just my TDS and I’m way off.
Those occurred to me as well. Another case of the left going after Trump and stepping on rakes?
Actually I would be surprised if there was no quid pro quo in getting Trump into Wharton but no doubt the old man was more old school about it. Donate a building after the fact or something like that.
Ah, but she took a space from a more deserving, probably minority student, Suthen. We have to show the woke crowd that you can’t buy your way out of a problem just because you’re wealthy.
Yep, in the age of outrage, they’re going to make an example of her.
Pour encourager les autres
Some of the bribes were disguised as charitable deductions. Then some of the geniuses claimed the deductions on their tax forms. So now the IRS is involved.
Aaaand there it is. Didn’t know that. That’ll do it alright.
My Dylan fave:
God said, “You can do what you want, Abe, but-
Next time you see me, you better run.”
Abe said, “Where you want this killin’ done?”
That’s pretty cool, until I imagine it in Dylan’s voice, and then it sucks.
Present!
Angling for the presidency, I see.
d’oh
^coming
“Next time you see me comin’, you better run.”
Stupid fingers.
Did you get holophonor lessons from Mrs. Mellinger too?
Israeli elections were today. We’ll probably know the winner in the morning.
Bibi’s party’s likely going to lose its status as the majority party, but enough right-wing parties are going to take seats that he’ll be the one to cobble together a government and stay PM.
Hope I’m wrong and he’s thrown out on his ass.
Is there an Israeli libertarian party?
Lets see there’s OMWC, HM….
…
…
Two is a party right?
A libertarian party at any rate. Wouldn’t want too big so you can’t rent out the banquet halls of phone booths.
Two is certainly a libertarian party. (But there still won’t be no chicks!)
A-HEM.
Now its a crowd.
They didn’t have a majority, but a plurality and cobbled together a government with the Torah-Reading Welfare Queens Parties.
I meant largest individual party. Derp.
“Torah-Reading Welfare Queens” for the win.
Why do you hope he gets thrown out?
Because he’s an asshole who gives a shit only about his own grip on power, not about Israel.
The Blue and White Party really wouldn’t change anything foreign policy wise but would be better for the country.
He’s always seemed OK to me.
You can’t just take everything someone is charged with, add up the potential maximum sentence, have them run consecutively and say they’re facing that long in prison.
That depends. Are you a prosecutor with political aspirations who’s “negotiating” a plea and co-operation?
That’s a hell of a goal. If they can achieve it, it will completely alter the geopolitical landscape.
so you’re saying the House of Saud is fucked?
Pretty much.
As are the Canadian oil fields.
No, they’ll simply have to legitimately compete for a change.
Hopefully, they’ll find a way to bring it down to $5
Are they planning on using the developing carbon capture technology in their drilling?
Swiss, I found your garden:

Did they hire Florida men for their grounds crew?
+1 Hold my beer. Watch this.
We used to do the same thing to dry spots on the field. 24 gallons seems a bit much.
Parks and Recreation for the win. Genius!!
apparently the artist Nathan Pyle who does the Strange Planet cartoons is pro-life. and because he fails that litmus test and wants to own all women, we should all stop sharing his content.
https://nylon.com/nathan-pyle-anti-abortion
Finding out about Pyle’s problematic views serves as a needed warning to make sure the content that you’re sharing was created by someone who views you as deserving of autonomy over your own body.
in case anyone was wondering, Nylon is the dumber flashier sister of Teen Vogue.
That “journalist” is a major douchebag.
i’m unfamiliar with the Casey Miller’s general body of “work”. i assume it all has the same level of “quality”.
Who doesn’t like smarmy, passive-aggressive bigotry?! I mean come on.
Even Soave called this out as bullshit. And there wasn’t even a “to be sure”!
UNPERSON THE WRONGTHINKER.
Fuckin creeps.
I really miss the time that 1984 was just a dystopian view of the future. 🙁
(seriously, people If we’re going to have a dystopia, can’t we have Brave New World instead of 1984? Unlimited sex and Soma are much better than this shit is.)
Rico’s pair seems to have at least partially descended since the glibbening. Good on him!
His religious leanings? What if he were Muslim?
This is the left, so the only thing worse than him being Christian would be if he was Jewish.
Many Muslims believe that their religion requires them to kill or subjugate unbelievers. Proggies get a hard on for that.
Until they start throwing gays off of buildings. Oh, wait, they look the other way when that happens. Somebody elses country.
It’s Islamophobic to point that out.
It’s *really* Islamophobic to point that out while comparing the treatment of LGBT individuals in Israel versus in the rest of the Middle East.
I was unaware of Strange Planet. I find them amusing.
Yeah, I’d never seen them before. Very clever.
These are the same people who would decry the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s.
Obviously, blacklists are OK to them as long as it’s the right people being blacklisted.
Yep. six years ago, “mumbles” Menino, who was mayor of Boston at the time, tried to ban Chick-Fil -A from our fair city to the enthusiastic support of my high school class mates. At the time, I shamed them into changing their stance by asking whether the problem with McCarthy wasn’t trying to ban people from earning a living for their political views but that the target ideology was communism.
Now, I don’t think my argument would give them pause for even a nano-second.
Those people were idiots. I had never heard of this chain until the progs started protesting it. Then one day I saw one in Manhattan and decided to try it to see what the big deal was. Good job lefties.
I’m agnostic when it comes to abortion, but anytime I hear the “autonomy over your own body” argument I can’t help but say I agree, just like it’s nobody’s business what drugs you put into your body, or whether you want to sell your body for sex, right?
“That’s stupid” is the smartest response I usually get.
” whether you want to sell your body for sex, right?”
Wanting to sell and finding a buyer is harder than I thought. Maybe I’ve priced myself out of the market. $20 may not be $20.
Did you try downtown?
Puh-leaze, everybody knows that Fourscore is an uptown girl.
So he’s been living in a white bread world?
I bet he never did a black street guy.
Cool.
Finding out about Pyle’s problematic views serves as a needed warning to make sure the content that you’re sharing was created by someone who views you as deserving of autonomy over your own body.
So, what she’s asking is, “Are you of the Body?”

The issue is not really the mental cases, they are always there. The issue is the preferential treatment the State and Big Business give to the mental cases by kowtowing to their demands either out of fear or because of some perverted political agenda.
Political agenda. The state created them. They are called useful idiots. This is why they are useful…a mob used as a weapon.
The trans activists are some seriously deranged people.
So are many of the anti-trans activists.
Heinous invectives and dogpiling = just fine, but “learn to code” = banished.
Also,
lolwut?
Being banned from twitter is not punishment. It’s like being banned from the shittiest men’s room in the shittiest bar in your city.
It you want to go there, you’ve probably got something wrong with you.
When twitter bans people, they’re doing those people a favor.
Holy shit, the lore is deep. Man, the world must seem awful when your head is this fucked.
Fucked my tag! Edit fairy, help! The block quote should have ended before Holy shit.

Apparently, trans “women” who insist that lesbians must sleep with them are Men’s Rights Activists because… reasons? Because when you have a bete noire, everyone you don’t like is secretly in league with them?
Goddamn ratfucking commies, all of them!
Apparently, trans “women” who insist that lesbians must sleep with them are Men’s Rights Activists because…
Because fuck you, that’s why?
Actually, that sounds totally like something 4chaners would do.
It’s easy to destroy someone’s life.
They do it because it works.
Call back to two threads ago…
i would love for SF to make a sensible decision about housing and allow high rise apartments throughout the core of the city.
I want to laugh at all these people with $1.5MM mortgages and houses worth $500k.
Sorry if that is any of the glibertariat, I won’t laugh too hard directly at you.
The entire situation is flat insane.
Not sure if this comment is intentionally a pun…
Can you have high rise apartments in SF or would that be too much risk in an earthquake zone?
SalesForce Tower is over 1000 ft tall.
Still smaller than Benioff’s ego.
How is it possible for him and Ellison to exist in the metro area?
Earthquakes probably aren’t a problem. Whole bunch of skyscrapers in Tokyo.
A bigger problem with SF is parts of the city are kinda hard to get a foundation to competent rock.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_Tower_(San_Francisco)
You can build to compensate for earthquakes, if you’ve got the money. Given SF’s astronomically high home values and rents, I’d imagine earthquake-safe high rise apartments would be economically viable in the area.
There’s probably zoning everywhere that freezes the current density anyway.
Some of the comments in that article are batsh!t.
The lefties really hate Prop 13.
Repealing it would instantly put millions of elderly in assisted living.
So would repealing rent control in NYC, to be honest.
JB has the start of a real good question…if we have to choose, what dystopia would you choose to live in?
I know we have a few votes for Mad Max. And probably some for Zardoz?
Any Logan’s Run votes?
Blade Runner?
No to Logan’s run. Get off of my lawn.
I can haz young Jenny Agutter?
hell yes… ::star on hand glows red:: – dammit!
Planet of the Apes
I think both of those beat the Soylent Green universe
Soylent Green… As long as they have a cure for Kuru.
Do I get to kill people or am I one of the victims? This figures strongly into my ZARDOZ/Logan’s Run choice.
Are you past the Logan’s Run expiration date?
Yes.
Idiocracy, at least it would be familiar.
Winner
Lucky for you we have already arrived
I gotta go with Brave New World. I’m certain I’d end up in exile on an island somewhere with the other rebellious Alphas but at least it is a world I can live with
Anthem
I don’t know, that one was pretty bad. Although escape was fairly easy.
I am going for Farenheit 451.
If not Brave New World then THX 1138. Or any other one where the government’s giving out enough drugs where I don’t give a shit that I’m in a dystopia.
The Hunger Games and I get Katniss
Demolition man
Every restaurant is taco bell/pizza hut
On the other hand, everything would be vegetarian so maybe not.
Where did you get the meat? Do you see any cows here?
Twister
It was a good rat burger though.
Libertarian Dennis Leary was the best part of that movie.
I’m never going to learn how to use the little shells.
How about “The Book of Eli”? Jennifer Beals has a daughter, and it’s Mila Kunis.
Mila Kunis. Mmm.
Deathrace 2000
The Postman
Escape from New York, but only if I was in the Duke’s good graces.
The Outlaw Josey Wales
A better timeline with a somewhat less statist version of the current runup towards a panopticon Total Police State?
If I gotta choose a dystopia, but you make it open ended like that, I’ll choose one better than the current mild dystopia.
my choice is obvious
Its Twister isn’t it?
Minority Report
OK, the photo on the front page reminded me of a meme I’ve been wanting to make.
My town’s police do a ‘citizens police academy’ sort of thing every year.
A group of I dunno probably 20 or 30 people, 2 or 3 hours once a week for 6 or 8 weeks.
Its not a training to direct traffic at special events, or anything like that. More of a “this is how we do our jobs” sort of thing. So they take you to their range, run you through a few exercises on evidence gathering. Set up a mock crime scene and have everyone go through it. Probably offer ride alongs (though in a small town that would be 2 hours of sleep most of the time)
Part of me says “Apply because it would be interesting”
Another part of me says “Don’t do it you won’t be able to keep your mouth shut about things libertarians don’t like about modern policing and you’ll end up on a list of local malcontents”
What say you Glibs?
My sister-in-law and her husband just did that in TN.
I am with you, I wouldn’t be able to keep my mouth shut.
Then again, I managed to keep it shut on the Budweiser tour.
Hey the Budweiser tour gives you free pretzels, so there’s one reason to open your mouth.
I don’t remember pretzels, but there was free beer, and they have some options that don’t completely suck.
I went with my parents when I was 10… So 1994, they may have changed their snacks.
I thought the Coors tour was great.
Now that I think of it I did all 3 “big brewery” tours when I wasn’t of age. What a waste…
Did you ask where the corn syrup was?
Keep your mouth shut, and then write an article for us. You’d be surprised how much a bored hack will let spill when he thinks he has an appreciative audience.
Now that’s an idea.
I don’t know how interesting a writer I’d be though.
I don’t know how interesting a writer I’d be though.
Then just collect the facts and let Sugar Free ghost-write the piece for you.
Dude. They publish me and people actually read me.
Do it.
You act like we’d read the article before going OT.
*runs away before Swiss gets here*
Do it. Get friendly with the cops. You will see that most of them are just shmoes trying to hold down a job, pay a mortgage and feed their kids. A few of them will be solid gold, honorable men. A few of them will be psychopaths.
In any case, they will get to know you so be a likable guy. Having connections like that can come in handy. You may think you are willing to fight the good fight if you get in a bind, but what about your brother? Your son or daughter? Knowing people and having them know you can be a good thing.
Besides, you might learn some cool stuff.
And what Tonio said.
This.
Also, what Suthenboy said.
Words of wisdom.
Suthen is right.
Again.
I don’t necessarily think they are a bunch of jerks.
From what I can see their handling of dogs at large inspires confidence.
I’ve been convinced to see if they have open spots.
They never mention a limit or how they decide other than they ask if you’ve been convicted of anything but a traffic offense, presumably because there is range time which I suppose is itself a reason to do it, especially if they can bring out some good hardware.
Sounds like a small town.
Good luck!
Amen.
Bitter, hateful, loathesome woman writes about Kirstjen Nielson.
On Sunday evening, news broke that Kirstjen Nielsen was leaving her job as head of the Department of Homeland Security. The New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted that according to people close to Nielsen, one reason she hung on as long as she did was because “she was aware how awful life would/will be for her on the outside,” given her role in defending Donald Trump’s policies.
Let’s make it so.
Nielsen did not create Trump’s monstrous policy of separating migrant families, but she should be known forever as the person who carried it out. She put babies in cages, traumatized children for life, and then appears to have lied to Congress about what she had done. She did this evil work with either blithe incompetence or malicious sloppiness, failing to create a system to properly track kids who were ripped from their families. On Friday, the Trump administration said it could take up to two years to identify thousands of separated migrant children.
Michelle Goldberg is a despicable cunt.
Still pushing the babies in cages BS. Those pictures were during the Obama administration.
I’m fairly certain Trump’s border people are using those same facilities, I think the talking point now is that they are chain link partitions, not cages.
She just keeps getting worse.
How does Goldberg have a job? I haven’t read a single intelligent thing from her.
It’s not about intelligence, it’s about eyeballs on pages.
True, but I can’t figure out how anybody reads that. She’s uniquely bad.
“How does Goldberg have a job?”
Srsly, dude? NYT
Commie rag. Vicious, despicable demoralized useful idiot.
It adds up.
I just got a robocall from the Broward school district about how dangerous vaping is and that OMG you need to talk to your children before they kill themselves with it.
You fucking assholes failed at every goddamn step before the MSD High shooting, and this is what you concentrate on? Fuck you, Runcie.
So give your kids a carton of cigarettes instead?
Gotta trade something so they’re not trading ass. PRISON RULES, BITCH.
*shivs LJW*
Because it’s better that kids smoke?
Sounds like they have a new automatic calling system and they want to use it a lot. That’s what my kids’ schools did. We’d get 1-2 calls daily from the school with some rambling message that only very slowly got to the point. Enough people must have complained because they rarely call now.
“A few of us in the PTA chipped in for our own robocaller setup to complain to the Board.”
They bought that robocalled with grant money they received by keeping crime rates low. You know, by not arresting or prosecuting Nikolas Cruz and his ilk to keep the numbers low.
Death Race 2000
Dammit. Brooks’d myself when the page didn’t load right. Reply to Robc.
Coincidentally, the day before Nielsen resigned, a coalition of progressive groups signed on to a petition asking corporate America to blacklist senior people in the Trump administration, including Nielsen, who took part in crafting, enacting or defending family separation. “Allowing her to seek refuge in a corporate corner office or a boardroom, university, speaking agency or elsewhere poses a significant reputational risk for those involved,” said Karl Frisch, a spokesman for Restore Public Trust, the group organizing the campaign.
How much of a risk will depend on decent Trump-hating Americans. The Resistance has been flagging recently, even if abhorrence of Trump’s degenerate administration has not. Many people, having worked frantically to deliver the House to Democrats in the midterms, are exhausted. The crackup of the Women’s March, and the resulting tensions between some black and Jewish activists, has been deeply dispiriting. The beginning of the Democratic presidential primary has reanimated old intra-left animosities. And relentless outrage is hard to sustain, no matter how justified.
I’ll provide the gasoline, if you’ll promise to self-immolate in the middle of Pennsylvania Ave, Michelle.
That’s more spittle-flecking than I’d come to expect from that newspaper. Sign of the times, I guess.
decent Trump-hating Americans
So its decent to hate people, at least if they’re the right people, now. The rate of degeneracy in American society this millennium has been astounding.
if we have to choose, what dystopia would you choose to live in?
A Boy and His Dog.
“They didn’t have to cut her! She coulda been used two or three more times!”
Best line in the movie.
I’d pick the Fallout universe. Shoulder mounted nukes FTW
I’ll second that.
+1 Harlan Ellison.
Here’s one from the mumbler that I like.
Me too. I’m not a huge fan but that there’s a damn fine song!
These are the same people who would decry the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s.
Obviously, blacklists are OK to them as long as it’s the right people being blacklisted.
See, also: Goldberg, Michelle.
From a leftist Pole, but still pretty funny

So I came out of my hole to use the scanner, and I run into a Partner here who for some reason starts talking to me. One thing leads to another and he’s going on about how we need to lock up the mentally ill like we used to back in good old days.
I say well you have a great point but there’s the question of civil liberties. You can’t just lock up people against their will even if they’re crazy.
He says civil liberties? That’s something they say when they don’t care about these people. There’s nothing “civil liberties” (he literally used air quotes) about living on the street.
Then he walked away and I went back to my hole to rub my temple and type this.
Ask if he has any modest proposals?.
‘There’s nothing “civil liberties” (he literally used air quotes) about living on the street.’
Fuck-off, slaver. -The Late, Great JsubD
THIS is why I wish I had Fuck You money.
Either you believe in innate human dignity, or you can find a way to rationalize any horrific treatment through unpeopling.
Remind him that in the ‘good ol’ days’ gays and disobedient wives were committed against their will and given ‘therapy’. Be sure and do the air quotes.
Better than the wife going to the doctor to get finger banged for “Female Hysteria”. Depends on which side of the equation you’re on, I guess.
Give Mr. Zylon our best!
And by best I mean punch him in the balls.
Here’s an article I can get on board with.

I’m having a riding lawn mower delivered to my house… Freight.
Being that I don’t have a loading dock or a forklift, that makes for a bit of an awkward situation. I’m gonna ask the delivery company whether they offer offloading for an additional fee, but I want to have a backup plan. Suggestions?
Ramp?
If you contact them before the mower leaves the local depot they can put it on a truck with a lift gate for a few dollars extra.
Request a delivery vehicle with a lift gate. It should be big enough to handle a ride on mower.
It should be delivered in a bobtail with a lift and they’ll drop it at the curb, or on your driveway. Give them a call and confirm.
They should have lift-gate service available, at perhaps an extra fee. Not all of the trucks have the lift-gate. Otherwise if you have a regular trailer you can ask to pick it up at their depot for no extra fee and they will usually have a ramp to ground level.
I have a pair of pallet forks that can clamp on my front end loader for just such occasions.
Or you can always buy a crane to A) get mower out of truck, and B) do this.
Gotta love redneck ingenuity.
“Meanwhile, in Florida”
Awesome, sounds like I’ll just let them know it’s a residential delivery and I need a lift gate. They usually have a pallet truck or some other way of moving the crate onto the liftgate, I assume.
Back up plan? Open the gate, unstrap the mower, put it in neutral, back the truck up real fast and then slam on the breaks. Easy Peasy.
“and that’s how trashy pissed away $1700 in 30 seconds”
Hey, I have unloaded firewood using that very technique. It works great.
Do it over the lawn and it will be a much softer landing.
Open beer. Build a ramp out of a couple 2x8s. Drive mower from back of truck into back of pickup. Then from back of pickup to yard. Photograph each stage. Be sure you have your beer in your hand in each photo. Post here. Enjoy plaudits.
You have no hills/banks to back up to?
Nope, the curb is the highest part of my property. It uniformly slopes away from the street.
Flatlanders *shakes head*
Not so much that it’s flat, more that the property is on the side of a hill.
If you roll your mower on it’s back and start it up it becomes a helicopter.
I tried that with the last one, there’s a reason I’m buying a new one…
Try it again but in reverse this time.
So this is an interesting story I wasn’t aware of before now. Apparently about 10 years ago or so Guam held a referendum on the future of the island and limited the franchise in this referendum to people of indigenous ancestry. As Guam is a part of the US, they were sued for racial discrimination, and the case only finally finished up with a judgement that the losing party (Guam) would have to pay the legal fees of the challengers. Apparently Hawaii tried something similar a while back with elections for their Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the case made it all the way to the Supreme Court before it was determined that this was not permissible.
Guam, Puerto Rico, Hawaii…they want independence? What are the odds as soon as they get it they start screaming and demanding money?
Fuck that.
So the 9th said that was AOK. Color me surprised.
Democracy

Another reason Harris is a shoo-in for the Dems – tech millions.
I had her and Beto near the top of the ticket but I’m wondering if Beto has already clowned his way out. Dudes an embarrassment. She’s going to be a strong candidate. Checks all the boxes.
Besides that she’s got the Hillary sociopathic quality that seems to succeed in the party.
Oh no doubt.
Buttchug is gonna be dangerous. He’s gay and ‘reasonable’. Ordinarily I would always give the nod to dusky cooter over gay dude, but I think her past will crater her chances.
The media is going to gloss over her past. I really don’t think it’s going to be an issue for the primary.
Not if the Hive Mind decides to make her past go away.
Buttchug not promising a Rolls Royce in every driveway so not sure how he’s going to buy votes.
Considering who I married, “dusky cooter” is my preferred option.
Not that I would ever use “dusky” or “cooter” in her presence, cause I like sleeping with her.
That’s a loose definition of reasonable.
For us. For the ‘swing voter’ he’s not that scary. And gay.
Free college for everyone. Free healthcare for everyone. Disenfranchising deplorables. Seizing the property of deplorables and distributing it to a reliable voting block. Ramping up eugenics. Giving the vote to illegals and felons. Taking back the crumbs. Trashing the first amendment. Trashing the second….oh hell, just trash the whole BOR. For that matter they want the whole constitution shit-canned. I see nothing to distinguish the Democrat party from Soviet Russia.
I dont see how she can lose.
You forgot reparations. I’m assuming she’s all for UBI and the new green deal as well.
From what I can tell, she is for all of it.
Have you heard her in an interview? She’s almost as phony as Hillary with the exception of her laugh which seems even more contrived than Hillbot’s
Good lord, no.
I will probably never hear her speak until she’s debating Trump next year.
Yeah I don’t want to hear her talk either. I could put that mouth to good use though.
Even better. I’ve seen her in person. She presided at my wife’s citizenship ceremony. She (Kamala) looked good in her leather skirt, and her speech was ok. It probably was a version of the speech she’ll give on the campaign trail about how her mother was an immigrant from India and her father was from Jamaica, and look what I’ve become, blah, blah, blah.
“You forgot reparations”

Oh, I’ll help with distribution…
The article makes the very good point that Silicon Valley is no longer a manufacturing center, but is now a bunch of media and information whores. Thus cementing their shift away from free market principles and limited government.
Yep. They are 100% in the tank for Democrats – and buying up media like crazy in order to control it even more.
In case folks aren’t reading upthread on the college admissions thing & why the feds are involved: Some of the bribes were disguised as charitable deductions. Then some of the geniuses claimed the deductions on their tax forms. So now the IRS is involved.
I get that aspect. It’s the other conspiracy charges I find unreasonable.
Yeah, big mistake.
The IRS has got them by the short and curlies
That’s how a a lot of bad guys have gone down. They outsourced all their murder and mayham but didn’t pay their taxes. Oops. Uncle Sam gonna get his cut or else.
People seem to forget that the IRS has far more legal tools than your typical DA. You are effectively guilty by default.
Sure, but if I buy a table saw from Home Depot and claim it as a business expense when it’s for my personal use*, the IRS may have a bitch but I haven’t defrauded Home Depot or otherwise injured anyone.
* I have not done this.
I worked for the state of Louisiana. It’s almost impossible to get fired. I saw people get away with nearly murder on a regular basis but the one unforgivable sin is theft. Steal so much as a paperclip and they let the hammer down on you.
These people ‘stole’ from the state. Off with their heads.
It’s more accurate to say that you get into an arrangement with a guy where a table saw will disappear from the store, in exchange for your contribution to his ‘charitable foundation’ which you know is bogus because the money is going to bribe the Home Depot security guard to look the other way. And then you take the saw home AND you deduct it from your taxes.
The thing with this conspiracy is that it wasn’t openly buying an admission slot. It was buying someone else to create a slot for you to end run the actual purchase process.
So the school wasn’t getting paid the tuition for these kids? what you’re describing is theft, a roundabout manner but theft, as far as I know after being accepted these kids, or rather their parent were paying their admissions.
I was simply responding to the question raised yesterday and today as to why/how this was a criminal instead of a civil matter. Since there was tax fraud involved, it became a federal criminal matter. This in no way means I agree with this, I was just pointing out what I understood to be the mechanism whereby a door was opened for criminal charges to filed.
They just got nailed with money laundering, too.
I really enjoyed the Double Negative stout from Grimm in Brooklyn and was excited to see their Jam Don’t Shake Imperial milk stout with peanut butter and raspberries at my local beer jobber. Not bad but I don’t like it as much as I thought I would; the raspberries add a (to my taste) cloying sweetness. But, at 17% ABV, I’m gonna finish it.
The Tick season 2 has dropped. Episode 1 is off to a good start. ?
They brought the tick back?
Amazon. Live action. ??
Oh it’s live action now. I have prime and had no idea.
It’s quite good. Check it out.
Patrick Warburton or someone else?
That version was seinfeld-esque and decent. This one has Peter Serafinowicz (?) nailing the part.
True. I had forgotten who was portraying him now. Interesting to see how big that guy is – you don’t really get that impression from some of his UK flicks.
