Wednesday, We expect SugarFree will torment haunt twist regale us with more adventures of The Hat and The Hair (and tha’ Hat). I have managed to get over my disappointment at the intrepid pair not finding Gerry Ford’s Gold.
Thursday, EMPTY. If nobody steps up, you will probably get stuck with me updating Catalonia and Afghanistan events. An nobody wants to settle for that.
Friday, EMPTY. I shan’t be stepping up to do anything on Good Friday….so consider this an additional plea for your submissions.
Weekend – We have been VERY lucky to have Not Adahn, OMWC and Mexican Sharpshooter carrying the load. Occasional contributions from our cryptid … friends too.

I just finished my taxes, E filed through TurboTax.
Holy crap: the final PDF of Federal, Minnesota, and California together, with worksheets, was 89 pages.
Painful. Iâd have owed Federal (did owe both states) if I hadnât gotten to take the Tesla rebate.
The new standard deduction saved our bacon.
I am going to follow the advice of others and up my withholdings a titch to distribute the pain over the year.
Ba careful not to overdo it after a partial year. I did exactly that last year, and ended up owing 2600 this year.
This was such an odd year with the move (home sale and home buy) and salary change along with some one time bonuses (which seem to have been properly withheld, tax wise).
But I canât begin to guess what a ânormalâ year in CA will bring.
The financial equivalent of anal rape. Moving to Idaho from California was an instant 6% raise.
I was all “yay” until I saw that the personal deductions went away. Best I can say is that it wound up a push.
My taxes got real weird last year because I retired. I had working income, social security, pension and 401(k) cashouts. I waaay underestimated our tax burden when retired and had to make up a bunch. So now I’m suffering for the bucks I had to make up for last year plus the new numbers for this year. Hopefully next year will settle out.
We managed to almost net zero taxes owed, zero taxes refunded. Fuck April 15

Modern streaming is so bad. No local buffering. No one except netflix and youtube has full dynamic resolution anymore. Not even to mention the streaming services that have ads where the show does have dynamic resolution, but the ads don’t. So you are watching the show just fine at 480p, then a 1080p ad plays and it just freezes. This is why high speed internet is a human right! So the companies don’t have to work so hard. growing up in East Bumblefuck, Wisconsin we still only had three channels when I was a kid, we got cable in about 87 with 14 channels, it went up to 22 in 88. MTV finally got added after I graduated HS in 2001.
This was 1979. We got glorious cable with 30 channels around 1982, but because I spent 98% of my time in my room with a revolving cast of ancient hand-me-down TV’s and no cable, I watched the shit out of that independent channel throughout HS.
Living in Indonesia, there was 1 channel (gov’t) that had a handful of US or UK shows with subtitles every week. Then they got a 2nd (private channel) early 90s? – with another handful of shows….I think they’re up to 8-10 channels total now (not counting satellite).

I do like the flavor from charcoal, but yes, the prep work is a bit of a pain.
I’ve thought about just making a circle out of bricks and sticking a few grates in there. The metal on my charcoal grills always rusts out really fast, probably due to above-average use and being left out in the rain (since I don’t feel comfortable putting the cover on it when there’s still fire inside).
The grill I have my dad got circa 1996. I take shit care of it, I’m just now thinking of getting new grates. Then again, I’m not a nancy who worries about rust, it puts iron in your blood.
My gripe with rust is that it causes the grill to physically fall apart đ

Now, have a charcoal grill that I’ve used maybe 5-10 times in 3 years, as it’s too much prep work for no real improvement in taste.
I’m always intrigued by the “too much prep work” argument against charcoal.
1) fill chimney with wood chunks
2) adjust vents
3) light papers under chimney
4) go do something for 15 minutes
5) dump chimney into grill
Also, if you use lump charcoal instead of reconstituted sawdust nuggets, the flavor difference is very noticeable.
