Never saw Jesus claim that, though I admit less familiarity with the sequel than with the original. If memory serves, that was a Paul thing, and Paul was a major asshole.
John was the asshole.

Paul was still under the law, as were all the jewish Christians. The big debate was whether gentiles had to first convert to judaism, and then be under the law. That was answered with a No. Primarily by Peter.

I don’t know. Suicide bombing is the TT modus operandi, but the peace process seemed to be going pretty smoothly for all intents and purposes with no indications otherwise. Could be ISIS trying to get another front going – apparently no claims so far.
According to the BBC: Announcing the curfew, Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardane said: “We will take all necessary action against any extremist group that is operating in our country.”
He also said that “all the culprits” had been identified and would be “taken into custody as soon as possible”.
We’ll find out soon.
Also, the archbishop of Columbo just said that, “Only animals could behave like that”. I believe that means he just called all Tamils subhuman.

The UMC’s largest church — the 22,000-member Church of the Resurrection with four locations in the Kansas City area — is among those applying financial pressure. Its lead pastor, Adam Hamilton, says his church is temporarily withholding half of the $2.5 million that it normally would have paid to the UMC’s head office at this stage of the year.
Franchise fees? I had no idea.
It’s big business
Re the UMC dis-Uing:
This is one area in which I guess I am legitimately conservative. The UMC has a doctrine. It’s not secret, it’s written down, you can easily obtain copies. I have a copy on my bookshelf now. If you don’t believe in that doctrine, you are not a Methodist Let the church name (and property, which is of course what this is really all about) stay with the people who actually believe in what the church purports to believe.
I mean, if someone said “I’m a Catholic, but I don’t believe in the Resurrection, the Immaculate Conception, or Petrine Supremacy, so we should have a vote and change those things” woudn’t that be seen as just as ridiculous?
I (not a Methodist) agree. But like you say it’s about the name and property. It’s like the socialists trying to get socialism into the librarian party platform. They are trying to take over the established name.

According to the article the American part of the UMC is going to use their version to override the votes of the unwoke brownfolk.
My mother is UMC and proggie, she thinks it’s a bad idea that Africans can vote in how the American UMC does things. She also believes that the Electoral College should be abolished. I pointed out this discrepancy to her, and she agrees that it’s contradictory, but that both things should be done because it would give the right outcome. She’s thinking of converting to Congregationalism because they’ve been modern-woke since the ’50s or some such thing.

Reminds me a lot of the Episcopalian split about 10 years back. I was attending The Falls Church at the time and the Episcopal church doctrine shifts were absolutely nuts – so TFC and a number of other churches split to rejoin the Anglicans under the Bishopric of Nigeria (pending the re-establishment of a US conservative Anglican organization).
Naturally, many many lawsuits regarding church property, etc. Not sure why the church finally lost after a number of initial successes.

track record on picking martyrs is not good
Surely this is intentional, no? The goal is not to reach any consensus on police abuse, it’s to further polarize the various parties. Protesting a shooting that everyone agrees was a bad shoot is not productive.

When did Moral Clarity become radical?
I guess Moral Clarity is when you conciously choose to ignore the moral issues your plan had and just say that you have the moral high ground. Who wants to tussle with the tough moral issues, when you can just say that the only moral option is to do what you say.
Bonus: In the 80s climate legislation was seen as viable so why do they think to GND is politically dead?
I welcome the Dems’ embrace of the Green New Deal as it’s a political loser that makes them less likely to win national elections and it has them laying all of their cards on the table. That nonsense flies in deep blue districts and that’s about it.
Just wait until their national convention this year. Every candidate will be tripping over themselves to out prog the other. Green New Deal, all in for socialism, VAT taxes, tax the rich, tax every fucking thing that exists, reparations, all of that stuff full on batshit crazy.
It makes them less likely to win but if they do we’ll be well and truly fucked and you’re right, their convention is going to be a shitshow.

The release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe report has some journalists in apology mode, saying they paid too little attention to Mitt Romney’s 2012 observations about the Kremlin’s threat to U.S. interests.
Back in 2012, Senator Romney. R-Utah, was running for president. And he tagged Russia as the United States’ greatest geopolitical foe.
Back then, Romney “was broadly mocked” over that position, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted on Friday. “I was among reporters who should have given it more weight.”
New Yorker reporter Ronan Farrow also joined in. So did Washington Examiner correspondent David M. Drucker, who said he wanted to “reset” his 2017 op-ed titled, “Romney was right about Russia.”
———-
Their comments came as Romney caught heat for criticizing the president over claims made in the special counsel’s report. “I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” he said in a statement tweeted Friday.
One of us! Gooble gobble, one of us!

Haha, you made a funny!
How about apologizing for political office?

Not the ones I heard on NPR this morning. They claim the Mueller report justifies their Pulitzer’s. Pretty much claiming everything in the report has been in the news. Funny they leave out how it all started. No interest in going there.
Not only that — and I know this is going to shock every single Glibertarian out there –but the New York Times thinks the Steele dossier may have been fake and that there were questions raised about its authenticity from the beginning.
The New York Times is also shocked that other people and organizations used the information contained in the dossier as facts which of course the New York Times never did.
China quietly snickers.
So far, no evidence has been presented to the public that agents of the Russian government took direct action to interfere with the U.S. government, any of the 50 state governments, the Democratic National Committee, or the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, or for that matter any of their Republican counterparts.
What we have is a partially redacted IC report whose unredacted portions indicate that the Russian government and its media instruments (e.g., Russia Today) spread propaganda and that a bunch of Russian military and intelligence officers were indicted in the U.S.
The best claim put forth so far is that the DNC and DCCC were phished, but no evidence connecting that phishing back to the Russian government has been made public.

One thing that irked me about season 2 of The Punisher is the scene where he’s going to storm the bad guy’s hideout… with a pair of 1911A1s. This guy is supposed to be uber-tactical, and he’s planning on facing literally dozens of opponents, but he’s planning on needing to reload every eight shots?
As far as that thing some people did in Sri Lanka, here is a really bad take.

The ‘but rule’ applies.
Poor Chuck Todd. He just can’t let go of that Russia story. Trump and the Russians stole the elections.
Face it, Chuck. Your candidate lost. On her own merits.
Daily reminder, A) it is still at best ambiguous who did the DNC and Podesta hacking (or in Podesta’s cast “hacking”) and B) They “stole the election” by releasing 100% true and accurate information. Normally that would be a good thing.
Oh I have no doubt Russia or agents there of hacked the DNC. I got a wrinkled ten China did too. There is no proof that they were the ones that gave the info to Assange though.
I can’t take it anymore. The hot takes I have read just keep pushing the parallel universes that have emerged where a Trump surrogate speaking to a Russian, (about anything) is potential collusion, but a Clinton surrogate speaking to a Russian is opposition research. (which is never even brought up anymore) When that became clear two years ago (?) is when I wrote off all of it as BS. It is fascinating how the parallel universes still exist and are now established.
Nice image. That’s the LP freak, correct?
Spawn 1 sent a screen capture of some email he got from the LP. He commented that “they are definitely the party that’s closest to my beliefs” but so far the candidates all seem pretty lame.
He asked if this were always the case. I didn’t have the heart to tell him, so I just said there is room for improvement.
If the LP ran Drew Carey or Mike Rowe, suddenly they’d be significant contenders. This is the era of politics-as-entertainment, and they are not only entertaining, they’re very smart.
Catch-22: Too smart to ever run for office.
And we’ve seen that an outsider of any stripe immediately inspires swampy biapartisanship.
Trump’s a bad apple. We all know that. He must be removed by any means necessary. That’s what democracy means.
Well they don’t seem to want to do that by running anyone with sane ideas against him in 2020. Reparations, government run healthcare, gun control, free money for people who don’t want to work, no fossil fuels. Good luck with that.
They continue to believe that Trump will insure them victory, so they can throw out the maximum prog wish list and get it because orange man cannot win. It’s funny how allergic they are to learning.

OT but may be of interest to some here. I work for a regional grocery chain, specifically in the meat department and one of our competitors, Stop and Shop, has been on strike since Monday (as far as I know, they’re one of the only unionized grocery chains). Now all of those customers have to go somewhere for their Easter hams and lamb, so we picked up quite a bit more business than we were expecting. As a result, we sold out of our hams much earlier than expected, much to the annoyance of our customers. I explain to people that the strike situation screwed everyone because the hams that were going to be sold by Stop ad Shop are rotting in their coolers and unfortunately, our Easter ham orders were written months ago and it’s not possible to get more at this time.
Some City Market stores are union. They were going to strike here awhile ago. Having a strike over probably the third most eatingcentric holiday in America doesn’t sound too smart if you want the people to back your union.
Most people have had the “well this is what you get when you mistreat your employees” response. I won’t pretend to know all the details of the disagreement between the union and the business, I’m sure there’s plenty of blame on both sides here, but the timing of the strike is pretty clear to get as much leverage as possible. I have heard that Stop and Shop wanted to get rid of time and a half on Sundays and pensions. Pensions seem to be going the way of the dodo in most businesses anyway, not just the grocery business, but getting rid of time and a half on Sunday is a bold move considering it’s one of the only incentives to get people to be available to work on what is most stores’ busiest day of the week. I believe Mass law prohibits employers from requiring people to work Sundays.
That didn’t exist at either of the unions I worked for. Then again, neither did full-time positions.
*I take some of that back. Hotel work is generally full-time. I was recalling grocery store work.
I got a ham from these guys: https://oscarsadksmokehouse.com supposedly they’re very good. The thing better be for the price I paid for it.
One of my customers was the head of the meat dept. at a Ralphs 10 years ago when they had their strike. He said everyone who worked there was pissed that they struck. People lost their houses and after it was over, they got the same bump they had before, just a bunch of new member to pay dues.
I worked at a car dealership many years ago and remember how pissed the older mechanics were when the union would vote to strike. One of the guys told me it was all the young guys who wanted a vacation.
I’m where I am today because of a union and a strike. I could write a short article about that…
Do it!
Yes.
Ahold Delhaize, which owns Stop & Shop, also owns Giant-Landover, which is unionized, along with Giant-Carlisle and Food Lion, which are not. I bet their American division has fun meetings.
One of the big chains I worked at in Buffalo was unionized. In exchange for slighter higher pay, all of which went into dues, we got less flexibility and the folks who had seniority treated you like trash. It’s almost like the SEIU is just a scam allowing its operators to skim wages and live the high life.
From what I’ve heard, the UFCW shops are similar. If you work there for years, you can have job security and halfway decent pay. But you’d better be on good terms with the shop steward, and you’d better not criticize the union. If you’re just starting, or don’t plan to keep the job for long, you’ll be making less than you would at a non-union shop, after dues are taken out.
Right, UFCW. SEIU was the hotel I worked at in San Fran. Exact same conditions and results.
It actually works pretty well for us having a competitor be unionized. We get all their young employees that left because no matter how hard they work, it didn’t matter because of seniority.
When I worked at the prison, the non-officer staff was under the SEIU. What I remember most was a nurse who refused to carry out a routine order from her supervisor, got in a loud verbal argument in front of a bunch of inmates (extremely unprofessional especially in that setting) then went whining to her union rep and got to go on “stress leave” with full pay and benefits. She was laughing and smiling on her way out the door, talking with her co-workers about how nice it will be to just stay home. Someone asked her how long she would be off, and she gleefully threw up her hands and said, “Dunno… As long as I can!”
She ended up being off for six months. Taxpayers of Ohio, this is where some of your money went.
Rudy Giuliani is muddying the waters by not accepting the NBC News interpretation of the Mueller report at face value. What a bastard.
That Old Guy music is live?!? Holy shit, that’s even more impressive.

Reading Krugman’s execrable nonsense and Mrs. Winston’s Mom’s fine takedown, something occurs to me. Paul Krugman is spreading fake news. The President never said there were good white nationalists. He’s not given them any kind of encouragement despite the constant attempts to manufacture it by the press. Everyone who repeats this is as guilty of spreading false information as flat-earthers, 9/11-truthers, lizard-people theorists, Trump’s tweets, etc.
Yet, they won’t be called out for it. No disclaimers will be automatically placed on Krugman’s column thanks to an algorithm. His publisher the New York Times will not correct or chastise him. He won’t be presented with a message the next time he goes to write a column that he’s not allowed to write anything again until he corrects or deletes what was wrong. People who repeat what Krugman said on YouTube or Facebook won’t be censored. Snopes and Politifact won’t stop fact-checking obvious satire long enough to address it.
The best I can figure is it’s a combination of two factors. One, Krugman is a Top Man and as long he doesn’t stray too far from the approved narrative, he won’t be treated like one of the plebes. Two, people are so blinded by partisanship and a need to maintain the narrative that they refuse to recognize when their own side spreads lies. Of course, there’s also a potential three, they’re all lying sacks of shit, and the more they talk about facts the more you know they’re lying.
That last one may be the simplest explanation.
Yes, that falsehood is now mainstream. If something is repeated enough it becomes fact. We all know Krugman is a liar so it’s expected. What I didn’t expect was that Winston’s Mom is hawt!
I’m not sure about the people who scarf down everything Krugman feeds them but he’s smart and informed enough to know he’s full of shit.
I don’t know. Assuming his wife doesn’t ghostwrite his columns, Krugman’s been wearing the mask for so long that I doubt he can take it off anymore.
I think Krugman IS pretty intelligent; it even shows if you read his works from before 1995 or so (he’s no Hayek or Mises, but he was a middle-of-the-road economist who understood that every policy has winners and losers).
My theory is that at some point, he decided he wants to be in a presidential cabinet, so he started kissing Team Blue’s ass in the hopes that President Hillary would appoint him as Secretary of Labor or something.
There’s no way he believes all his own bullshit.
People who repeat what Krugman said on YouTube or Facebook won’t be censored
As it should be.
Yet other things will be censored.
Everybody has the right to speak, except ______. It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.
YouTube (and every underlying provider that colludes with them) is a private company, yadda yadda. One can observe the trend and not believe it is a good thing.
For an example of the parenthetical, look at Cloudflare. Ten years ago, you could’ve set up a competitor to YouTube and risen or fallen on market dynamics alone. Today, you have to please all the infrastructure gods, and they are jealous and vengeful.
How this all shakes out, I do not know. The only thing I am certain of is that the government getting involved would make the situation significantly worse.
Anyone else remember it differently – you know, before Antifa took it over?
The poors have false consciousness. Of course they were fighting against “wealth inequality”, if they knew what was good for them they’d never protest against taxes!
Something something, price of fuel, something something.
I wonder how secretly pleased Macron is that a middle-class protest against taxation morphed into the usual leftist rabble they’re so accustomed to. He was clearly scared shitless back when that all started.
Very much this. Had they gotten even a little organized it would have been a real threat to the existing order.
For Easter dinner I am foregoing the ham this year. I am doing a rack of ribs just like Jesus ate after emerging from the cave. I was going to do them on the Weber but it is raining so I am opting for the roaster smoker.

I’m now officially older than my dad was when he died, and I’m having a tidge of an existential crisis. Like, I never thought I would make it this far and now have no plans for the future. I didn’t bother to make any, because I thought I’d die before now.
Also, I still don’t know what I’m doing at this “life” thing.
I got a new garage door. Since Mr. Mojeaux got new plumbing on his birthday, I figured it was just right I should get something practical too.
?
I was going to go with a garage door euphemism, but that is better.
No euphemisms. Our basement floor got jackhammered up, new pipe laid, and new concrete poured. Wasn’t the most romantic or exciting of “gifts.”
Plumbing and garage doors (carports for Southern folk) are essentials. Get the garage door openers and you’ll never get wet going in/out but you already knew that.
There are certain milestones in life that we cross that seem to have more meaning than others. I remember being older than major league bb players, older than NBA players. What was up with that, guys making super money while I was still wandering around, trying to get enough money for a tank of gas and a cheap 6 pack? Then older than presidents? Wait a minute ! I know how I was at that age, still looking for that tank of gas and a cold 6 pack. Nothing had changed.
For me it’s “older than my boss”.
“Older than my doctor.”
“Older than Old Man With Candy.”
Whoa now, there, Buddy!
It gets fun when you realize you have been working longer than some of your co-workers have been alive.
Also, I still don’t know what I’m doing at this “life” thing.
I got a new garage door. Since Mr. Mojeaux got new plumbing on his birthday, I figured it was just right I should get something practical too.
Me too x2. I got a replacement stove vent years ago from my wife. It’s still there and going strong.
I remember turning 40 and being stunned by the sudden realization that I was older than Homer Simpson. And now he seems so young, lol.
Also, Happy Birthday to you!!!! ?
[hugs Mojeaux]
[gets in a surreptitious reach-around too]
Butt squeezer.
Happy Birthday! With emojis!
???
Happy birthday, Mo!
And a belated happy birthday for Riven, as well.
Happy Easter and Pesach to everyone. Had a nice 2 day drive from NYC to Miami and once again, Kenley 95 truck stop was impressive as can be (all-you-can-eat bacon!). Also, Lazy Pig BBQ in Quantico is delicious. Seder was loooong but fun; our kids hanging out with their cousins was worth the drive.
There are some great beers down here. Having Bell Cow Milk Chocolate Porter from JDUB’S Brewing Co. in my old teen stompin’ grounds of Sarasota, FL. while I surreptitiously devour a box of Publix fried chy (the best restaurant chicken on Earth) as SiL’s house has been cleansed of chametz and non-Glaat goodness. Y’all have a wonderful day.
Not sure if serious or posting a 10 year old article for context? Don’t recall TT targeting churches before – mostly military targets IIRC, but it’s been a while since there was any current material to read up on.
Just the part about “first country to eradicate terrorism”. In fairness, five years ago I would have said that the US has eradicated a host of infectious diseases that are now spreading thanks to antisocial behavior by the the out of control homelessness.
Good points
Asshats. Yeah, just trying to put a cap on misinformation. Not trying to CYA at all.
I’m where I am today because of a union and a strike. I could write a short article about that…
You’re a Pinkerton?
It is a cold wet dreary day, here, so I got that going for me.
Sounds like excellent napping weather.
Poor Sri Lanka. I lived there for several years when things were still very bad – depressing to think that it might be starting again.
greatest Stooge since
JeromeSamuel HorwitzFixed that for ya.
YOU ARE DEAD TO ME, HOBBIT!! DEAD!!!!!!!
Sounds like excellent napping weather.
Very true. Unfortunately, NAPCAR seems to have taken the day off, too. There’s nothing like the drone of taxi cabs on a mile-and-a-half oval to lull me off to dreamland.
Late to the party, as usual, but this is an impressive array of links, Old Man
I’m sure my wife’s redneck ancestors are cheering on the new segragationists from the grave. They’re go to argument was always that segregation was our natural condition – “the Nigras just want to live with their own kind.”
Sometimes I don’t get the horoscope submitted until Saturday, so that makes it understandable that it wouldn’t be run through a gibberish to gliblish translator until later on Sunday, but this week I had it submitted by Thursday.
We have some very lazy editors. I kicked a few of them and, voila! there it is!

@Riven, I thought I had wished you happy birthday yesterday, but the comment disappeared (or I fucked up).
So happy birthday!
