Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas! And what a glorious morning it is for everyone as yesterday Barr provided his testimony to the Senate and declined to give testimony today to the House. Who does this asshole think he is, Eric Holder? Many interesting things came out including his side of events regarding the “snitty” letter he received from one of Mueller’s staffers and confirmed that he was going to brief Senators on the status of his investigation into Spygate. You can tell he did a good job as all the right people appear to be pissed.
I don’t know why this took so long, Democrats love being Nanny Staters, Republicans love restricting non-military government programs, it is a win-win.
Leftist activists try to financially destroy anyone right of Mao by pressuring financial companies to blacklist them.
Sorry boys, Sansa Stark is off the market.
That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.

Sorry boys, Sansa Stark is off the market. – meh… never a fan

But would you?
I obviously but on the would front the standards are not that high anyway and she is way above
Does she bath regularly?
If not will you volunteer to bathe her?
Yeah, ok, I’ll do it.

I’ll pass on Ramsay’s sloppy seconds.
Tall redhead, bitchy, flighty. Whats not to love? (Festus’ Kryptonite)
Yeah, she does not a lot for me.
I had no idea who she was, had to Google her. From wedding pics, looks like a good match.

>>State lawmaker’s bill limits what Texans can buy with their food stamps.

They will demand it and get it. Cause the vote buyers know where their bread is buttered, and they want the power more than they want to do the right thing by their constituents.

Truth!
I had a friend who suggested that it just be limited to WIC approved items. “If it’s good enough for pregnant and nursing women and their infant children, its good enough for poor people of all ages” was his tagline.
This means they’re going to cut the program by 10%, right? I guess it’s a start.
I’m of two minds about this. On the one hand, I’m opposed to the state telling people what to eat on a general matter of principle. On the other, when people ask me for financial assistance, if I decide to give it, it does come with strings attached. If I’m going to give you money, I make sure it’s used responsibly and isn’t being employed to cause you further harm. I’ll also want you to do a budget and figure out why your financial model isn’t working so you don’t end up in the same situation again.
Food stamps are supposed to be there to provide for someone’s basic nutritional needs during times of financial hardship. It’s not unreasonable to require that they be used to purchase items that are likely to contribute to those needs rather than things that have little nutritional value and in general promote obesity and the attendant diabetes and hypertension, all of which are likely to exacerbate the problems that caused food stamps to become a factor in the first place. I’m all in favor of personal choice, but your personal choice is less much important to me when it’s my money you’re using.
I hear you, but I also worry about the costs that the stores have to bear to implement this and the costs to enforce it.
That’s definitely a good point. Then again stores as far as I know are already prohibited from allowing purchases of alcohol and tobacco products with food stamps so it sounds like there are already mechanisms in place. A tough question, to be sure.
I think Cali allows the cards to be used in fast food joints.
It doesn’t really matter either way. If you tell people what they can and can’t buy with fake money, they’ll find a way to turn it into real money.
Leftist activists try to financially destroy anyone right of Mao by pressuring financial companies to blacklist them. – someday this shit must come to bite them back right?
I tell people now that instead of the old fascist/marxist ways of sending people to camps or outright killing them, we now have the fascist/marxist movement destroying them financially or using the law to do the imprisoning. What people call the western democracies these days tend to be far closer to a lighter version of the old fascist system.

So can someone here buy and review the open borders book by Brian Caplan and the SMBC comics guy? I am curious what’s it but am not willing to pay for it and anyway it is not available in ebook form.
Pass
Of come on it is just 13.99
https://www.amazon.com/Open-Borders-Science-Ethics-Immigration/dp/1250316960
For 13.99, I could get two crack whores to fight each other. Much more entertaining and enlightening.
^^^
hmmm apparently it is Bryan Caplan
If no one volunteers I am going to have to nominate someone
My vote is for SF. His unique storytelling style conveys the essence with a bit of flare.
Ugh.
My issue with the immigration debate is that neither side will come out and argue about what they really want.
Immigration restrictists: We have too many poor brown people already.
Open/Semi-open borders: We want more brown people because it irritates the other side so much.
I’m not saying all the immigration debate is rooted in racism, but the dug-in portions of the debate are based in it. It is far more about culture than anything else. (Like abortion.)
I think it is all cultural, but that the cultural issues are a little more complicated than just “BROWN GOOD” and “BROWN BAD.”
I think that there is a significant number of open/semi-open folks that also want their service workers to make as little as possible, and the present citizens would demand too much. Thus driving up the cost of a salad by $1 at the local lunch spot. Its called complementary skill sets in the literature.
I also think those same people are cosmopolitan in the worst way. The city-state is the only legitimate political entity, Everything in-between is just an undifferentiated mass of nothing. So who cares who moves around there from one city-state to another.
My experience north of the mason-dixon line and in Appalachia makes me think that the lower class is far less concerned with race and far more concerned with class and local tradition. I think that its not brown, per se. Its a combination of non-integrationist ideology (that wasn’t around 50 or 100 years ago) combined with the fact that these people see themselves as formerly economically successful. Formerly economically successful classes have always been strongly anti-immigration, and it has nothing to do with race (or at least race becomes an easy proxy).
Its noteworthy that this part of the country was Trump’s America (aka a gutted economy when the US was no longer the best place for heavy industry, lots of empty buildings, lots of cultural dead-enders, the pittsburgh diaspora, etc) before being in Trump’s America was cool.
I nominate PieInTheSky.
It is moral arguments for open borders, primarily, I would guess.
They claim its a mix of both. Having read Caplan for a long time, I don’t feel the need for his ideas in dead-tree format.
Caplan is the epitome of the ‘autist-living-in-a-bubble’ form of immigration analysis. Important, but missing a lot of boots-on-the-ground analysis that is hard to measure but easy to observe.
Actually that is a good description of him on everything.
Brutal, but accurate.
I don’t even think its an insult, it probably describes me pretty well too.
Caplan is proud to state that he lives in a bubble.
I have no idea if he is autistic, but his *analysis* follows the hyper-focus-on-denotation;-ignore-or-incorrect-on-connotation common among people on the spectrum.
I hear you saying “Caplan” but you don’t have to point at me while you say it.
And the House Democrats are hilariously pissed because Barr won’t agree to appear to be questioned by their staffers. Because they are too incompetent to do it themselves and don’t want to be personally embarrassed by Barr.
Pretty much, they would all sound as retarded as Hirono yesterday.
Oh my God, Hirono was cringe-inducing.
Redundant.
Hirono is proof that a non-sentient being can serve in the US Senate.
My sympathies.
Tucker Carlson made fun of her reading her crazy allegations off of a card. She can’t remember her lines so Soros had to write them down for her?
That was bad. I actually felt a twinge of pity for her in the cockles of my cold, dead heart. Senator-for-life though she may be.
Hirono is one particularly dumb Congresscritter.
This. She’s a barely functional retard with an evil bent.
Retarded Asian Tiger Mom. Made her kids study the kazoo and berated them unmercifully for wanting to take up the recorder instead.
Is this picture ever going to come?
I suggest using more lube.

“Seriously it’s been like an hour.”
You don’t like foreplay?
Can’t they just read the questions their staff prepares for them? Are they too dumb to do that successfully?
No, they don’t want to be on camera getting roasted by a guy who’s probably smarter than they are.
Seems to be doing them a favor then.

ARGLE BLARGLE LOTSA WORDS MASHED TOGETHER
Good, I thought it was just me.
Speaking of Marilyn Manson
A classic.
That is hilarious. I never liked MM for that very reason – his whole act was based on being shocking. I do not find that impressive.
The Beautiful People is a solid tune but I’m unfamiliar with the rest. Shock for shock’s sake wore thin on me decades ago.
Christ, PoMo academics have perfected using as many 5 dollars words as possible to say absolutely nothing.
I translated that to read roughly “I have a job interview in an hour, but my car is out of gas, do you have a couple dollars to lend me?”
In my town the equivalent is “Can you spare five dollars so I can get the bus back home to NJ?”
I especially like the guy who did the “lost wallet speech” two days in a row on the exact same rush hour train that I take.
Dude, you have to at least mix up the train lines!
When I lived in Indianapolis there was a guy on the corner by my office who would use an “I need bus fare to get back to Alabama” story. He told me this three times a week for three years.
Shit man, this really makes me want to play a game of Mage: The Ascension.
I have to say this is the most entertaining primary lineup I’ve ever seen.

That guy is a retard.
If the GOP weren’t the stupid party, they’d have campaign material from these clowns for the next 20 years.
Every time a D does or says something royally stupid, the R base points to this as campaign ad material.
The R politicians never use that material and instead run basic ads like “Hands off our Medicare!”
The title of Stupid Party might be too generous. Concession Party seems more apt.
Someone has to deliver those beautifully written concession speeches.
Precisely.

That’s my congressman. I call him Congressman Puddy, because he has that same vacant look that Elaine’s boyfriend had on Seinfeld.
“Feels like an Arby’s night”
That’s frankly unfair to Patrick Warburton.
And Puddy had a sweet 8-ball leather jacket if I recall.
I thought that was a brilliantly played character.
I could totally see Swalwell in that 8-ball jacket. I might have a little respect for him if he did.
Holder is getting flogged in the comments of his tweet, including transcripts of him calling himself O’s wingman.

The video of Barr telling dipshit he couldn’t have the call notes is pretty good. John Goodman is gonna play Barr in the movie.
First comment on the Holder tweet is a win.
Operation Ivy is a fun start to the day, and this very appropriate tune rolled around immediately after it.
Make it a great day, peeps!
I still maintain that Barr is the grown-up version of Ralphie from “A Christmas Story”.

Relationships We are not gay, but we secretly kiss and sleep in the same bed
As long as you say no homo (is no homo still a thing these days?)
Actually having sex would be less gay than cuddling and kissing.
Damn straight. Put yer assless chaps on and get down to business.
I see what you did there.
Aren’t all chaps assless?
For the one giving the d**k, yes, because he can pretend it’s a woman, or a grapefruit wrapped in duct tape. The one taking it has no window for denial unless he’s being anally raped.
A really thorough prostrate exam?
“doctor’s” voice: wait for it… wait for it…
“grapefruit wrapped in duct tape”
Citrus? No thanks. Just shell out the bucks for a Fleshlight, sheesh.
Enjoying anal stimulation does not mean you’re gay!

Picked up Legend of Dracula. Feteasca Neagra.

Why? Is it made with, gulp, real blood?
19 bucks? You just did get anally raped. It’s under $10 here.
Yeah, but that is in those goofy Canadabux. The are only $.745 to the real dollar.
You forget the exchange rate between Loonies and Dollars.
Government run dude. Like I had a choice.
Apparently “identify” is a meaningless word.
But we knew that already.
This reminds me of the article with the guy who couldn’t get it up, then got treatment and decided to date men “just to see what it was like”, and then the other article with the married couple who decided to open their marriage and the guy started dating dudes.
I’m like: it ain’t the 40s anymore guys, go ahead and be gay, it’s ok.

waitiminnit, there’s an 80% chance of any main movie character being an architect. Like Charles Bronson in Death Wish.

Anyone acting that straight is obviously compensating for being closeted.
Is he straight, is he gay/bisexual and, more importantly, should I have any hope of finding romantic love with him?
Low-T Bi and No, you won’t.
I was leaning towards Gay Ace but Low T Bi could work too
“Low T Bi” sounds like a really unfortunate hip hop stage name.
Welp. There’s a Ledger story. See you later.

Sometimes that show had some great bits.

“What?”
I enjoyed that show for awhile.
At this point Hillary reminds me of a girl in my class that is still complaining about not being chosen “Homecoming Queen”. America was so lucky that she was not elected last time around, not because Trump is any good but Hillary is the crazy aunt in the attic that waves out the window.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U8sHtALkFA
She’s the crazy aunt in the attic that flings her chamber pot out the window and has to be kept away from sharp, pointy things. “Ol’ Aunty. Hehehe, she’s a little tetched!”
The conduct of AG Barr over the last few weeks and in the hearing today has been shown to be unacceptable. I thought he was an institutionalist, committed to both the rule of law and his role as the lawyer for the American people. I was very wrong. He is protecting the President.
Yea, what he should be doing is running untraceable guns to drug cartels while trying to brainwash Americans into giving up their 2A rights. You tell ’em. ///Holder2020
I thought Barr was a bad mistake by Trump as all the wrong people were praising an old HW Bush guy. Turns out to have been a brilliant move.
So what you are saying is that Mueller Time is over and it is time to pay the Barr Tab.

Time to Bring Back Mandatory Citizen Militias?
Compulsory service defending the nation at home would foster solidarity and give men something to fight for.
Mandatory? Fuck that…
If you own a gun and know how to use it, you’re a part of the “unorganized militia” envisioned by the Framers. No need to waste your weekends with rednecks that like to play war.
“A rifleman behind every blade of grass”
No weekend spent with rednecks with guns is wasted. You may be wasted, they may be wasted, but time is being well spent.
“It could be politicized”
LOL. It’s already politicized even as an idea, for the reasons the author acknowledges. And it will inevitably become politicized after implementation. And it will quickly become a shitshow of identity politics as people try to weasel out claiming that their identity isn’t being catered to.
“On the downside, a compulsory domestic force would upset many libertarians and religious pacifists (Amish, Mennonites, and others who presumably would be granted a non-military option for national service). It could be politicized, creating an atmosphere in which one half of the country opposes it on principle”
But yeah that’s the only downside.
I always think of the scene in “Triumph of the Will” where Hitler mentions the spade corps (can’t remember what they were called, but their symbol and issued tool was a spade; basically the German equivalent of the CCC) and the camera pans to all these doofuses with spades these are the people who couldn’t find work in government or industry, and who could not successfully practice a trade.
Or as we the enlightened call them, future cannon fodder.
Sublime.
The way they were holding those shovels, it should have been obvious to all what the true purpose was. When your shovel corps are training in such a way that a few months of range practice is all that remains to turn them into soldiers, you clearly aren’t committed to the spirit of Versailles.
What, you don’t march around your yard with your shovel at left shoulder arms? Weirdo.

My Dad had to register for the draft in 1941, he was 48 years old, 3 kids. It was expected if he were called he’d be assigned to some defense factory type work. I have his physical notification for WW1, he was never called as WW1 ended before they got to him.
You know what? I agree with these Bring Back the Draft idiots that there is a lot of benefits to making young people from all sorts of backgrounds live as a group. I know that I learned a lot by enlisting in the Marines about people from all over the country. Different races, economic backgrounds, etc.
But force people to do that? Fuck you in the neck!
Why doesn’t some woke company start a Bootcamp for Betas? Youngsters who wanted the benefits could join up.

HILLARY CLAIMS SHE IS LIVING IN TRUMP’S BRAIN ‘RENT-FREE’
I think this is the inverse of reality.
Her staffers focus group tested that line and it showed a 63% approval rate among potential Democrat primary voters. Don’t blame her.
Her entire public persona is cringe-worthy fake. I don’t get how more people don’t see that.
Oh, they get it. There is a lot of willing suspension of disbelief going on. But the narrative told them it was Her Turn, and who are they to question the narrative.
Funny how he’s all she talks about while I doubt Hillary has even crossed Trump’s mind in months.
Hahaha, really? I mean Hillary it’s crazy, but that’s just as crazy.
Oh yeah. He faps to visions of her in shackles. I know I would if I were he.
A New Way of Voting That Makes Zealotry Expensive
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-01/a-new-way-of-voting-that-makes-zealotry-expensive
Yes all this shit will totes “fix” democracy and bring utopia about
“An intriguing new tool of democracy just had its first test in the real world of politics, and it passed with flying colors”
Im a simple man, but the principal of democracy is simple too. If you need a new tool, it sounds more like you decided democracy didn’t get you what you wanted and now it’s time to try something else. Seriously the whole point they make is that democracy broke because people did things we don’t like.
What’s hilarious is that it doesn’t scale.
First, the links to the paper describing the scheme in the bloomberg article was 404’ed when I clicked on it. But there was a pretty good explanation in Wikipedia: Quadratic Voting.
It works only when you have to vote for a slate of n things (e.g. board members, projects to engage in the next fiscal year, etc).
If you are voting for a single person to occupy a single office, then the system collapses down to the first-past-the-post method.
So for voting for elected office, it really provides no benefit. But the cost is amazing, because now instead of tallying one vote per ballot, you have to tally and weight n votes! If done properly it can do a wonderful job of gumming up the system.
And of course, more complex voting schemes should have a slight benefit: convincing more voters to skip the whole meaningless exercise.
How many times have you gone to the ballot box and found only 1 race on the ticket?
As it is you are not required to cast a vote in every single race so you show up on election and see elections for
President
Congressman
Senator
State Legislator
States Attorney
State Treasurer
County Commissioner
County Commissioner
County Commissioner
School Board
School Board
School Board
Dog Catcher
Circuit Court Judge
Family Court Judge
District Court Judge
County Clerk
Ballot Question 1
Ballot Question 2
Ballot Question 3
Ballot Question 4
That is 20 line items on the ballot so you get 20 tokens
Well you don’t really care about 2 of the ballot questions, you have no clue who any of the people running for School board, any of the judgeships and half of them are unopposed anyway and you have never heard of any of the people running for treasurer and states attorney so you decide to just not bother voting in those elections leaving you with 10 tokens to spread among the elections you do care about
I see. So basically, candidates with a small vocal set of supporters will have a higher chance of winning elections than candidates with tepid support…
It still appears to me that the system won’t produce any different results than a first past the post system.
Something, something, game theory, something, clusterfuck
Holder is some kind of piece of work.
Dude was held in contempt and were a partisan AG. He should just crawl back into swampland and stay there. I like the Twitter comments pasting that arrogant puke.
He’s a weak-chinned man. Nothing good ever comes from a weak-chinned man.
Sorry boys, Sansa Stark is off the market.
I like the character, but I’d imagine the actress is not a person I’d like in real life. She can’t be with given her taste in men. Spoiled goods if you ask me.
Actors and actresses are not known as a class for mental stability. If acting wasn’t a thing they’d just be sad people with identity problems. Acting provides them a way to get rewarded for their desire to be a different person without suffering consequences.
My perception is that 90% of people who go on stage professionally (so including musicians) are like that. The other 10% are incredibly smart, incredibly stable, and find life to be just one big long joke.
+1 Frank Zappa
Yep, exactly. I was going to reference Mike Scalzi, but I figure 99.8% of the people here wouldn’t recognize the name.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Scalzi
I think Natalie Portman falls in the same camp (she has an EBS number and had a really funny reaction when asked if it was weird playing ‘a dittzy pretty girl scientist’ in Thor.)
That seems about right.
From her Wikipedia bio:” In April 2019, Turner revealed that she suffered depression over fan criticisms over her role in Game of Thrones.[27] She added that she is taking a break from acting to focus on her mental health.”
Run.
I hope Mastercard holds the line and doesn’t submit to those assholes.

Dude, you live in Massachusetts, you’re already in a socialist dystopia.
I can think of few things more retarded than agonizing over your ballot in MA. If you do want to bother going to the polls, you should be able to figure out how you are going to vote in about 4 minutes tops.
Welcome to the life of a libertarian.
That’s an easy choice for me. I don’t care that Trump picks his teeth with his fork in between banging porn stars. The idea of the presidency being some sort of sainted position was silly anyway.
But, but…. his icky behavior reflects poorly on the country! We need to bring back the respectable statesman who is politely and earnestly bombing a half dozen countries at any given time.
Remember when the GOP was apeshit about the Respect of the Office, and the Dems were eye rolling at the idea that a President couldn’t be expected to not dip his cigar in an intern? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
How is this a hard question? One involves getting more state power involved in your life, the other is just being a boor. Last I recalled, it’s not like the “socialists” going up to the bat are any more “decent” anyways.
Only question I’ll ask is what did the author say about Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal? If he uttered one peep about “private versus public morality”, he can go fuck himself.
Why not vote for no one? Turn in a ballot with no one selected for President.
Because he is a moron who thinks there is something wrong with throwing your vote away

If i”m taking the article seriously, I would bet on House of Lords members and foreign kleptocrats setting up shack in London.
Can’t be the immigrants; they know they can rape local kids with impunity.
Yeah, but the Eastern European chicks are hotter.
Hard to read the address but apparently they’re going to Rotter-something.
So Pie was holding back on the really juicy stuff in his Bucharest travelogue.
Dammit, we almost got rid of a hipster on that one.
Nope. I’m gonna give him props because that is impressive as hell.
You say impressive, I say insane…
Sure. Alex Honnold is insane, but at the same time insanely brave and talented.
I get scared on the roof…
His TED talk.
I’m in the roofing business and I don’t even get on roofs.
We have some young kids from El Salvador who are fearless mountain goats though.
I’m in awe when I watch them carry 2 bundles of shingles, 160 lbs, up a two story ladder and step right off the ladder without pause and walk up a 10/12 roof to the ridge.
2 bundles up a ladder?1? hol-eee crap.
I was all tuckered out carrying one bundle at a time across my roof (4/12) with a lift bringing to the roof height for us.
When I had a crew of, err, south of the border folks (probably Mexican, but I wasn’t asking any questions) redo a roof in the Chicago area, it was pretty much the same deal. Two story house, not a single piece of safety equipment anywhere. Entire job, including replacing some of the plywood, done in a day and a half.
Although I was picking up empty Corona bottles after they left.
This is why they get hired over lazy white dudes.
Just seeing the picture made sympathetic tingles run from my ankles and up my spine. Festus don’t do heights no more.
Third rung on a ladder is my max. Me and Ol’ Festus don’t do heights no more.
I don’t know, maybe I’ve gotten too practical in my old age, but stuff like that just seems pointless to me.
Left-wing activists have forced Mastercard to hold a shareholder vote on the creation of a “human rights committee” that would monitor payments to the “far right,” with a view to cut off disfavored individuals and political groups from receiving money from supporters.
Do you know who else wanted to prevent peaceful people from participating in civil society?
The Brain?
What’s particularly ironic is for Communist to expect these people to just wonder off and starve to death. A sure way to turn someone from a peaceful person to violent is to eliminate his means of making living.
Why there’s no such thing as blowback! /derp
+1 Irredeemable Deplorables. They’re “lost causes” anyways, better to just starve them out. Christ, what assholes.
Surely the definition of “far right” will be set in stone and only include violent terrorist organizations, like the NRA. It’ll never be expanded to include anyone who isn’t a dyed in the wool leftist.
I hear the SPLC keeps a list. Let’s just use that.
with a view to cut off disfavored individuals and political groups from receiving money from supporters.
And they’re absolutely sure that they’ll always be the favored groups and individuals.
Peaceful? Have you heard the things these far-right people say?
The shareholders are a bunch of retirement funds who likely won’t want attention focused on themselves. So, I predict the shareholders go for it.
Finally!
UC San Francisco launched a new research initiative aimed at discovering the root causes of homelessness — and solutions to end it — thanks to a $30 million gift from Salesforce (CRM) CEO Marc Benioff and his wife, Lynne.
The school announced the creation of the UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative on Wednesday.
“The world needs a North Star for truth on homelessness,” Benioff said in a statement. “The UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative will be that North Star, providing the latest research, data and evidence-based solutions to ensure we’re investing in programs that will help solve the homelessness crisis.”
It’s about time somebody decided to consider homelessness in a serious, thoughtful manner.
I wonder why no one ever thought of that before.
Benioff is a real piece of work.
It’s amazing to me he’s made so much money off a next to useless product.
My former employer is dumping SF in favor of MS Dynamics – which seems equally useless but promises some better interfaces.
ugh, Dynamics is a money hole.
But a profitable one if you’re in the customizing and integrating business. 😀
I only worked with Salesforce for maybe two years, but I’m still not entirely sure what it does that you can’t do with a database and the interface of your choice. Seriously, for all the customization that you have to do to make Salesforce worth using you’d be better off with Django or Rails.
SF is a genius product.
It does a few things sort of OK. But it is highly customizable and has almost $0 starting cost. Your competition wants $400M in licensing to start with.
People try using SF and find it helps them track some data. But it doesn’t do everything. Then they find out that a) they no longer own their data and SF isn’t going to give it back so they can try something else. But b) there are lots of consultants who can extend and customize SF to do what you want. You just need to pay for that.
There is a whole ecosystem out there built on SF. Hordes of consultants are like remoras feeding of SF’s success.
If you decide to ask people what you should use, those hordes of consultants will all recommend SF. Because they know it will lead to lots of money spent on customizations.
I worked for one of those consultants. Their schtick was using Salesforce to track patients’ medical info, generate “leads” based on risk self-assessments in order to get new patients in the door, stuff like that. I’ll say this, it was an interesting twist, but talk about a Rube-Goldberg machine. Jesus. Again, you’d have been better off with Rails or Django or Laravel or something and a regular ol’ database after all the whacky customization it took to get the damned thing to work.
Absolutely agree with you. I was working at a company that bought another company that did SF customizations because they thought that the future was to integrate IoT data into SF.
As part of the acquisition, developers were supposed to be certified in SF. So we did some training and you are right, it is a mish mash of crazy integrations.
In SF’s defense, they were genius to say “we aren’t doing anything too specific because that will limit our customer base” and instead let consultants extract that last bit of value.
>>$30 million gift
which I’m sure will be used unselfishly and not to buy expensive vacations to go on “fact finding” missions.
Did you know that Tahiti has almost no homelessness? A blue ribbon fact finding group should go there and spend weeks figuring out what they’re doing right.
I’ll take your $30 million and write a nice paper about how they are homeless because they don’t actually have a home.
Because we didn’t have any until Drumph was elected.
First step is to use the correct euphemism “unhoused”. Homeless is so degrading, which is why they’re homeless. Er, unhoused.
“In-betweeners”
That’ll get confusing.
No, the new lingo is “experiencing homelessness.”
Next up, in the spirit of “funemployment”, will be something like “homefree”.
This sounds like just the kind of thing you’d get from the guy behind Salesforce.

Sure. And now his people are starving and being run over by armored military vehicles. You may want to question your worldview in between scarfing down double-quarter ponders and chocolate milkshakes.
“75% of extreme poverty,”
I mean even counting the people who starved to death as no longer in extreme poverty, I don’t think this number adds up
Well, they now live in super extreme poverty, not extreme poverty.
Not to mention having paper to wipe your ass with.

It’s not eliminated if it comes back the minute the oil money disappears.

Things that graveyard shifters only see, Episode #592 – I’m driving home on a four lane highway and in the black of night see something ahead. Thinking it might be a moose or a deer I slow down a bit. Get a little closer and it’s someone on the meridian. Closer still and as soon as my headlights hit him/her they dropped trou and full Montied me with both hands up in a defiant show of the fuck you finger. I get home and told Wifey about it and when she left for work an hour later there were about a dozen cop cars and a logging truck stopped on the same stretch of road. Made everyone detour down the access route.
Suicide by logging truck?
Probably. It’s just a deserted stretch of highway at that point. There are mid-sized businesses and lots of people living there but after about 6 it’s a deadzone. I wasn’t gonna slow down and help.
All the reasons why Democratic efforts to check the President will likely fail were revealed in Attorney General William Barr’s trial by fire on Capitol Hill on Wednesday and his refusal to submit to a second round before the fired-up House majority on Thursday.
Because that’s what they are doing. This whole article is a crock of bs. And it is interesting that they say “Democratic efforts” and not “Congressional efforts”.
Does CNN not do opinion section? Cause that article should have been in there…
CNN is opinion section.
Given the criminal negligence of the Obama administration in dealing with Chinese spying and trade practices over the years, this probably isn’t the joke she should be making:
https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1123937974851461121
Totally out of context. More proof that the Media is in the bag for Trump.
If anyone should know about Chinese spying and influence, it’s Clinton. Bill sold off our technological edge for campaign contributions way back when.
Hillary Clinton: “China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns?”
I thought leftists said that this type of joke was treasonous…
*Crosses arms* That’s different!
She’s also blaming her loss on the Russians again. She ran the best campaign! That’s the only way she could have lost!

UNC Charlotte shooting. My tin foil hat was getting uncomfortable, but it seems to me that this was a targeted attack that the Media is trying to call a mass shooting.
I haven’t seen anything about motive, yet, but as usual a dude died defending himself and the rest.
Hey cops, this is what a fucking hero looks like.
Well there goes the main Crux of my theory,I hadn’t heard that someone fought back (I wonder why?).
My theory being that it’s rare for such a low body count and only the cops for a response.
FTA:
“He took the assailant off his feet, and the heroes that we have here were able to apprehend from there.”
Fuck off you cop fucker. Calling any of you blue shitstains a hero in the context of this kid (a True Hero) is typical cop limelighting.
I count exactly one hero in that scenario.
What a fuck. That comment is enraging.
“How could you expect Scott Peterson to go after a shooter with a rifle when all he had was a pistol???” Remember that bullshit? How many times have we seen unarmed bystanders like this kid or the Americans on the train in France charge shooters? Yet the gun grabber crowd tied themselves in knots to defend the coward Peterson.
The guy who murdered his pregnant wife??
Scot Peterson, the Parkland SRO.
“Hold my beer.”
Yea, close quarters and a pistol is sufficient. Fuck them.
Except, perhaps, for the higher capacity mags you can use in a rifle, they are not the best weapon for indoors. If I ever have to shoot someone in my house, I’m not going for the M1A, I’m going for the Para-Ordnance .45.
How could you expect Scott Peterson to go after a shooter with a rifle when all he had was a pistol?
Well, like this. You draw your pistol, double-check that there is a round chambered and the safety is off, and run to the sound of shooting.
That’s how I expect Scott Peterson to go after a shooter with a rifle.
This ‘argument’ pisses me off so much. Spree killers are not usually Special Forces CIF hitters or DEVGRU ops. Most of them barely know which end the bullet comes out of. They’re hot shit chopping up unarmed victims, but they either surrender or commit suicide at the first sign of effective resistance.
So get the fuck in there and do your job, Officer. Unless you’ve done zero personal training, are grossly out of shape, and have had your quals pencil-whipped for the last twenty years, you’re gonna be fine.

Reading about the young men who protected their girlfriends during the Aurora shooting was a major contributor to me carrying every day.
The quotes from these are always the same – guy reacts instantly to protect. I sure wish they would have been able to shoot back instead.
Several students packed the Kennedy room at UNCC for their final Anthropology lecture on their last day of classes. Their professor, Adam Johnson, had his students giving team presentations when 22-year-old Trystan Terrell walked in and began shooting.
I figured they would be avoiding this story for some reason.
Why? To protect the reputation of the Irish?
Back in the early ot’s there was a shooting on my college campus. I heard the gunshots. Not only did it not make national news, it didn’t make local news. I still don’t know if anyone was injured or killed.
Take cover, North Carolina, mag cap limits incoming!
Actually, it looks like there’s something for everyone here. One of the victims is from Saudia Arabia, the suspect is autistic (and a registered Libertarian)…this one’s tailor-made.
I thought all registered libertarians were autistic.
I always assumed the two words were synonyms.

How sad is it that Joe Biden is probably their best candidate.
And put up against who, Tom Hanks? Mr. Rogers? Bob Ross? Which messianic celebrity has sucked up all the charisma and kept it for himself? Who could possible enervate the entire Democrat party and leave them with such a suckfest slate of candidates? Oh, it’s Donald Trump, the most hated man in America besides the living Tsarnaev brother. That’s how much a shitshow the Democrat party is.
What a douche this guy is. The only reason he even has a job is the Stupid Party ran Ken Buck (the ideological protégé of Tom Tancredo) against him; and he still barely won.
Sick burn:
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/05/brett-kavanaugh-joe-biden-christine-blasey-ford-what-now-for-women.html
For me and some of my like-minded peers, the very fact of Biden’s candidacy inspires the same kind of exhaustion and hopeless frustration we’ve felt about the aftershocks of the Kavanaugh hearings (and not just because of Biden’s role in the Hill hearings). In the country’s most diverse candidate pool ever, with several people running on ambitious plans to remake systems of power that have facilitated the exploitation of generations of Americans, Biden has stepped in to add—what, exactly? A promise to return the country to the good ol’ days? He doesn’t seem to realize, or care, that those days weren’t all that good for massive swaths of the electorate. Instead of attempting to chart a bold American future, Biden is peddling a gussied-up version of America’s past.
Maybe your problem isn’t the old white guy gobbling up all the attention. Maybe it’s the fact that he polls better than all your diversity hires.
I mean, I don’t disagree that he brings nothing to the table and represents nothing more than a yearning for the no-growth Obama years.
Hey! His favorite thing was that there wasn’t even a whisper of scandal around the Obama administration.
He’s not wrong that there wasn’t a whisper…
though the media’s refusal to cover them doesn’t mean they didn’t exist.
and represents nothing more than a yearning for the no-growth Obama years.
And no-growth beats shrinking. I think there’s even enough Democrats to get that. The rest of the major candidates are peddling the path to Venezuela.
Yep. Dem leaders may be some of the dumbest mouthbreathers on the planet, but I don’t think the same is true of most of their base. I think most voters generally recognize how their bread gets buttered, and it’s not by crashing the economy and bankrupting the country. They talk up gay marriage issues but ultimately they’ll vote to keep their jobs protected and their schools segregated.
Won’t someone please think of the ambitious plans to remake systems of power??
“In the country’s most diverse candidate pool ever”
Say what you will about the Dems but they are always breaking need ground. Be it the most diverse or most qualified candidate ever.
*Readies rain barrels*
Is it really the most diverse candidate pool ever?
I mean it mit really the ight technically be and I don’t feel like going back and looking at every person who ran for the last century but with a breakdown like…
White Males – 12
White Females – 5
Black Males – 2
Black Females – 1
Hispanic Males – 1
Asian Males – 1
That leaves you with 55% white males, 72% male, 77% white, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to go back and find some nobody who was black or female ran against a strong democratic front runner as their only opposition and be technically more diverse
I’m tellin’ you, they’re not going to be able to sneak Uncle Joe past the primaries. He’s too male, too white, too rich, and too old. And if they try a Bernie on Harris or whichever female PoC is leading the polls there will be blood on the floor of the convention.
That’s when Hillary rides in on her broomstick to save the day.
He’s too male, too white
66% of the support in the D party is currently going to 4 white men. While the fringe may prize diversity uber alles, the hoi polloi seem perfectly willing to go for generic white bread. I think in part this is because a lot of those people already voted for Obama and Clinton in previous primaries, so the bloom is off the rose as far as firsts are concerned.
Instead of attempting to chart a bold American future,…
Has it occurred to them that maybe, just maybe, the reason Biden is polling so much more highly than your preferred candidates is that huge swaths of even Democratic primary voters see your “bold future” with utter revulsion?
Nope. It’s all the misogyny & racism.
Biden has stepped in to add—what, exactly? A promise to return the country to the good ol’ days?
So…MAGA? I can see why Biden was tempted into that terrible MAMA phrase. Similar, but different, and this time not in a good way.
Ummm… considering PDE5 inhibitors were originally designed as heart drugs, this isn’t entirely surprising.

If Trump ever gets around to hanging a nickname on him, I don’t see how he could do better than that.
I’d like to think even he wouldn’t go there.
Honestly, that’s probably one of the less offensive nicknames that come to mind. Mrs. Glezman is too obscure; nobody knows his spouse’s last name.
It is strange. He’s the mayor of South Bend. Here’s a list of cities bigger than South Bend:

I just don’t get Japan. It’s filled with Japanese women and perverts. How do they not figure out sex?
Like most developed nations with a safety net – children become a use of funds and not a source of funds. In the old days children were an asset. You can put them to work and they’d take care of you in your old age.
Years ago when I had more time and interest I seemed to recall a few studies demonstrating the larger the safety net the lower the fertility rate.

I actually looked at the link about the two celebrities I don’t know getting married. Favorite line:
“DJ Diplo provided the tunes for the couple and really got into the 50s theme, with his cowboy hat ”
He wore a cowboy hat, which is totally 50s and stuff.

Fuck, if they were going to get married by an Elvis and go 50’s, they should have just gone to Viva Las Vegas. Then my girlfriend could have gotten all excited about seeing someone from Game of Thrones. In short, everyone wants change, no one agrees what change is.

Agreed. Let’s start by stripping the executive branch of the ability to pass crypto-legislation in the form of “regulations”.
How about we require congress to follow Article 1, the President to follow Article 2, and the other 5 branches can follow Articles 3-7 respectively.

Trump broke Julian’s brain.
And a mob of clapping seals agreeing that it is empirically proven that libertarianism is the gateway drug for white supremacy.
The left sees libertarianism as competition for young minds which is why they work so hard to discredit it with lies. They just hate Christians.
Clint has it/us all figured out:
How about “individuals could have more if they worked harder and smarter” and stopping right there.
Nope. That leads your straight to white supremacy down the same path.
“black people don’t have as much as white people”
“black people must not be as hardworking and smart as white people”
“black people are inferior”
Black people have been led down the primrose path by ostensibly well-intentioned leftists. My worst fear for Trump isn’t that he’d be bad for minorities—he could never compete with the damage done them by half a century of Democrat rule—but that he’ll give shape to race grievance obsession among whites.
That shape was predetermined by the NYT regardless of the victor.
Are you referring to the race grievance obsession amongst woke whites, or the (opposite) race grievance obsession amongst white supremacists?
I have to admit, having been shafted by affirmative action, I have a bit of a race grievance of my own, namely, that there’s a lot of people hiring on the basis of race and I think that’s wrong.
Neither, really. It’s the self-pitying despondency of welfarism and blame-shifting I don’t want to see define whites corporately. There’s too much of that already, but we still (mostly) have the good sense not to encourage it. What I fear is white people celebrating the dependency of whites as benign and deserved. The worst thing for this country isn’t that shithead white supremacists have a snit now and again, it’s whites succumbing to the aggrieved rhetoric Democrats have peddled to blacks and other minorities for decades.
whites succumbing to the aggrieved rhetoric Democrats have peddled to blacks and other minorities for decades
That may be inevitable, if the wokesters succeed in thoroughly tribalizing society. Their vision of society is basically that of the prison yard – everyone has their gang, and if you don’t you are a victim waiting to happen. In that kind of society, there’s just no way white people don’t form their own gang. Not sure how Trump advances us down that road, though.
I don’t think he does, tbh. I should say that was my worst fear, that he’d play to the worst impulses of race baiters like Richard Spencer and normalize the idea of white victimhood and helplessness. And I leave it open what happens in the next six years, especially during the inevitable downturn. But so far he’s delivered the opposite of a tribalized white identity: he turned Obama’s moribund economy around. If you wanted a grievance-obsessed white subculture, you need a Democrat like Obama.
OK, the idea that hard work can lead to a better life is right out, then.

I have never heard a leftist (or conservative, for that matter) accurately describe what libertarians believe.
I like the framing downthread. Free association is “the right to discriminate.” Bake the fucking cake, bigot.
Free association is “the right to discriminate.”
It is, although I would say it “includes” the right to discriminate. Just like the right to free speech includes the right to be a bloviating idiot.
AKA the right to be an asshole.
or have people always been this stupid and I’m only now noticing?
No, I think the insane and stupid have ratcheted up a few notches. I think the distinction is that we’ve become more tribal since the advent of social media. The tribalism doesn’t necessarily lead to stupidity and insanity, in and of itself. But, it’s led to insane and stupid being cheered, as long as it serves the tribe. Before, insane and stupid got you a pat on the head and a “That’s nice, dear.”. Now it gets you a mob ready to follow you on a rampage.
Sanchez may be the most extreme case of TDS in the last two years. He’s a CATO guy who has done some great work on all kinds of issues in the past, and still does good work on some things.
But, he banged the drum for 2 years that Trump had colluded with Russia. Then, when the Mueller report came out he insisted that it had not cleared Trump and, in fact, much of the Mueller report proved that Trump was guilty. As Scruffy wrote, Trump really broke Julian’s brain.

Note the complete lack of interest in actual guilt or innocence.
“When I think back on the weeks I spent writing about Christine Blasey Ford’s sexual assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh, it all feels like a bad dream. Everything was so real in the moment: the palpable admiration for Ford among young activists; the way all conversation, even at friendly dinner gatherings, tilted toward Kavanaugh for almost an entire month; the white-hot women’s anger that exploded into elevators and the halls of the U.S. Senate.”

the white-hot women’s anger that exploded into elevators and the halls of the U.S. Senate
And really only there, as it more than likely militated against Democrats in the midterms.
As near as I can tell, they had to fly in the handful of women who were that angry and stage photo ops for them.
That is exactly what happened. IIRC they were caught on camera outside afterwards celebrating their scheme.
Nothing makes a good wholesome family dinner like talking about the insane and deranged theatrics that were the Kavanaugh Hearings.
I tried to give Ford some benefit of the doubt, but the wheels came off early with her smirky “indelible in the hippocampus” excuse for her very selective memory.
As for the Dem Senators, “insane and deranged theatrics” were exactly what I expected. The only surprise was Cocaine Mitch dishing out some surprisingly witty smackdowns.
Lindsey Graham found some balls.
Yup, that’s who I meant.
Also, maybe don’t talk about white hot anything “exploding.” Makes it sound like hackneyed porn mag copy.
