Hola! Yo soy hada de traducción…
By classic I mean, we’re going to seek assistance from the Spanish translation fairy…
Up first, the big news en español today, is the Spanish government is presently harboring a Venezuelan Opposition leader at their ambassador’s residence, but will limit his contact with the outside. They are in effect, not taking sides.
Spain is not going to allow its embassy to become a center for political activism,” Borrell told reporters in Lebanon, where he is on an official visit. Borrell recalled that Lopez had meetings with the press on Thursday at the embassy and stressed that “from now on this will be regulated.” The minister pointed out that, according to international law, the figure of “guest or welcomed” in the embassy “naturally” implies a limitation in his political activity. “We are confident that, under these conditions, Venezuela will naturally respect the immunity of the territory of the Spanish embassy,” he added. Borrell reiterated that Spain “will not deliver” Lopez to the Venezuelan authorities, despite the fact that the Venezuelan Supreme Court issued an arrest warrant Thursday.
As I assume you all know well, the US government has picked a side. TW: Seriously annoying autoplay music video at the link. It made me seek enlaces elsewhere.
It is unlikely that the United States will take the money directly to Venezuela by air, sources and experts explained, given Venezuela’s air defense system. The Trump government could also send money to a neighboring country, such as Colombia, and then take it to the border with Venezuela.
The Treasury Department could reduce sanctions on state-owned companies specifically to channel funds to Guaidó, said Michael Dobson, a former Treasury official who also said that Americans can donate to the opposition.
The Trump government has focused on financially supporting Guaidó since he first recognized him as the official leader of Venezuela in January, considering that financing is key to stabilizing the country and ensuring its leadership. The president of the National Assembly, with studies in the United States, is now recognized by more than 50 countries as interim president of Venezuela.

Buena suerte
Finally, I figured the Spanish outlets would be all weirded out with their Venezuela coverage, but I have to admit they seem to be playing it pretty straight.
April 30 was not a day of habitual protest for Venezuelan opponents, who have been asking the Chavista regime from the street for years to hand over power. The difference this time: the interim president Juan Guaidó appeared in a video escorted by active military supporters and, in an unprecedented way, the uniformed kept defending the protesters throughout the day on Tuesday.
But as the hours passed, different actors took the microphone or social networks to explain what, according to them, supposedly happened. Guaidó protested with the military, who after four months, finally reacted to his call; Maduro said he still had the support of the uniformed; United States spokespersons said the Venezuelan leader was about to get on a plane and leave Venezuela after the betrayal of three of his main allies in the state.
Despite all the versions and given the disinformation that exists in the country, it is difficult to understand where Venezuela is going.

I won’t make up my mind about Venezuela until I hear more from Ilhan Omar.
Way to show your woke creds there Chipper!

Well, duh – it’s always them!
I won’t make up my mind about Ilhan Omar until I see more from Venezuela.

she’s probably a quarter-correct. our market didn’t get in the way of the development of horizontal hydraulic fracturing and that collapsed oil prices. but the other 3/4ths is their shithole country’s socialist policies which ignores price signals.
Oil prices collapsing hasnt hurt Norway, as far as I know.
Its not even or just the lower prices. Its that their entire oil industry has rotted away and nobody will do business with a regime that seizes your assets and doesn’t pay its bills. They’d be in pretty much the same shape if oil prices were higher. If you can’t get oil out of the ground, it doesn’t matter what the price is.
You have to take into account that Venezuala produces heavy crude. Most of the refineries in the world that an process it are in the US.
OK Spud, but like RC says it doesn’t matter if it’s still in the ground.
One of the reasons that it’s still in the ground is that we refused to buy it, which significantly reduced the revenue and killed the industry off that much quicker.

Just make sure your HR dept. isn’t full of commies.
Which is unlikely, in my experience with HR depts.
Looks like the usual suspects are trying to get ahead of the revelation that Obama did spy on the Trump campaign,/a>…
I’m very grateful that the Trump administration doesn’t play the PC word games the left wants everyone to abide by while retaining the right to change meanings on a moments notice as it suits them.
Barr: “It was spying”
Left: “Dont call it that, nobody calls it that, it shouldn’t be called that”
Barr: “It was spying. I will call it that and it should be called that”
Finally people are starting to call a spade a spade.
RACIST!!!!!
According to Twitter, I’m an agent of the Russian government. Watch those accusations, comrade, lest your vote get hacked.
He had an exchange with some dipshit in Congress that went something like this:
Dipshit: Spying just isn’t a commonly used term for this kind of investigation.
Barr: Its commonly used by me.
I think Barr may be like Graham – he was a pretty typical swamp creature until the Dems totally lost their shit after Trump won, and just can’t tolerate their current behavior.
That’s my impression as well.
The Democrats are trying to paint him in the media as a cover-up specialist, a fixer.
That seems accurate. I remember being displeased at his being appointed and his confirmation, but since getting into office he’s been less than horrible. Its amazing that the left has gotten so terrible that right wing swamp creatures no longer seem as bad and can actually do some good by curtailing the shreiking hordes.
Guess that makes me an alt-right white supremacist.
The swamp dwellers on the right are just garden variety political whores, trying to feather their nests by obtaining influence and then peddling it to rent seekers. The left sincerely believes that controlling the country will allow them to bring the jubilee, or in their less naive echelon believes convincing people that they are out for ‘justice’ will allow them absolute power. There is no equivalence, if you vote Team R you may not be voting for anything good, but if you vote team D you are voting for death camps in our lifetime. I am getting to the point where even team L seems like copping out. If the Dems get both houses, the Presidency and the Court we are Russia 1919.
They are in full blown panic because they know the house of cards is crumbling and the DNC and their bureaucratic operatives are crumbling
This truly might engulf Herself and Obama.
Remember Seymour Hersh’s recording?
So now we find out Brennan’s CIA probably deployed a spy. Hmm… Hersh also was told by sources that Seth Rich was the source of the “hacked” emails. Hmm…
I have read many claims that the download speed was to high for a hack and could have only been done by a usb drive.
Poor Seth Rich.
So you’re saying that it’s taco night?
Fuck… it’s Tuesday again?
No. That’s this Sunday.
Then we’ll have something to tacobout. *hides from Swiss*
Soft shell tacos are better than hard shell tacos. Change my mind!
No…that’s the truth.
Absolutely. Especially if those soft taco are fried to crispy.
Soft shell are certainly easier to eat.
I used to make my own crispy shells by frying flour tortillas and shaping them over crumpled aluminum foil covered with paper towels. Muy bueno.
Nice try… *narrows gaze *
I believe Del Taco is having a sale on their new meatless beef tacos today

There is no way to say that in Spanish that makes sense.

All I want for Christmas is John Brennan in a federal prison.
He needs a roomie like Clapper. Then they can make toilet wine together.

Yes, toilet wine is too good for them.
They should have to huff shit fumes for the rest of their lives.
Of course, it’s shank or be shanked.

Clapper and Brennan would be “shanking” each other on a regular basis.
Let’s go to the most knowledgeable source!
Well, he’s right about that.
Do you mean that, if they keep this up, it’ll be 4 more years of Trump?
I think he means it’s the beginning of the shady, illegal bullshit done by Obama’s intelligence agencies coming to light.
Well, that too. I meant the beginning of unearthing what really happened in 2016.
Trump discussed the “Russian Hoax” on the phone with Putin. And tweeted about it!
Sneaky sonofabitch.
*dusts off Russian phrasebook*
Why is it shocking that one world leader calls another?
Oh, because Trump.
In all seriousness now, the best reporting on all of this has been Andrew McCarthy since day one.
All who follow this should read an article on human events.com written by Will Chamberlin titled “Checkmate” about the behind the scenes maneuvering between Trumps lawyers and Muller.
Supposedly it was Trumps lawyers who approach Barr about the interpretation of a certain statute about obstruction. Seems Weissman had convinced Muller interpret it in an unconstitutional manner that went against settled SCOTUS precedent.
Barr wrote a memo to Rosenstein giving him the correct and constitutional court precedents. Rosenstein had been letting Muller run wild and couldn’t control him.
It was then that the Trump administration told Sessions to hit the bricks and nominated Barr.
It is a chilling read to know just how close we actually came to an actual coup against the duly elected President of this country.
Seems as though Barr will go down in history as well as Admiral Rodgers as true American Patriots.
If we can keep AOC out of the Oval Office and rewriting history.
I misread that as John Bolton at first.
I want him in federal prison as well.
Well yeah…
The New Yorker apparently eviscerated in him a recent profile and many many people were very willing to rat on him. Apparently he’s a douchebag on the order of Kissinger in person.
Kissinger allegedly banged a lot of hot women, though, which I’m doubting is the case with Bolton, so score one for him.
The Bolton article is pretty interesting. He started out pretty libertarian (got Clarence Thomas into Friedman, etc in college) but somehow during the Reagan years he seems to have lost his way.
Not sure if it’s a free read anywhere, it was included in the Early Bird on Monday – very good, long read overall.
Guess you can read the whole thing for free: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/05/06/john-bolton-on-the-warpath
I agree, but they should let his mustache out on weekend furloughs occasionally though.
I am not getting my hopes up. But stranger things have happened than corrupt pols/bureaucrats getting their due.

So good news on the economy, actually booming news…
Wonder if we will just hear how Barr is a liar all weekend from our keepers in the news
And, once again, Trump-era economic numbers are always reported low initially and revised up, while Obama numbers were usually reported high and revised down. Curious how that works.
I’m wondering about this. There have been some red flags at least as far back as Q4 last year.

Take money to the Venezuelan border? What the hell for? There is nothing to buy. The commies have deliberately destroyed the supply of all goods…food, medicine etc. just like they always do. What good is money? You cant eat it.
Mercenaries.
Cross the border, buy stuff in Colombia, cross back. That’s been happening a lot.
What other choice do you have? It’s not like you’re going to be able to supply weapons, unless you’re supplying troops with them, and that’s no bueno.
I’m sure like nearly every other socialist hellhole, there’s a black market economy. Otherwise, money might be useful in buying certain people off, like Col. Not Gonna Switch Sides for Nothing.
I am not very happy about Russia and China and Cuba being there so I have some sympathy for the Monroe Doctrine. On the other hand I dont see anything good coming out of our being involved there. Air lift guns, money, whatever but for God’s sake dont send American troops.
*Conversation earlier today with an engineer who spent his life in African mining
Me: “I dont know what the Chinese think they are going to get out of Africa aside from a thorough fucking.”
Him: “You know how we give workers the day off with no pay if they misbehave?”
Me: “Yeah”
Him: “Apparently the Chinese are just shooting them.”
Me: “They are still going to lose. You cant win there no matter what you do”
Him: “That’s right”
Venezuela, though a different culture, is the same in many ways. You cant win there. The population is communist and they are looking for someone to take care of them. They think such a person exists and is just dying to step in and play daddy. In truth it will just be more of the same. They will fall for the commie line again and again and never learn.

My opposition isnt to the death penalty but rather to the state applying it, or any flawed person for that matter. If you start applying it in cases where you are 100% sure next it will be 99%….85%…and before you know it Illinois will discover they have executed over a dozen innocent men.

So, for those who have the irrational hatred of hops, perhaps this blind tasting of lagers will be more up your alley. Unfortunately, Ohio only got up to number 11.
I don’t have an irrational hatred of hops, I just don’t want to be picking hop leaves out of my teeth after drinking a beer.
BUT QUINTUPLE IPA HOP BOMB!!!!
(what you said)
Agreed. I don’t mind a hoppy beer every now and then. But, beer should taste like something other than hop soup. Unfortunately, more than a few brewers with more hipsterdom than talent realized they could cover up less than stellar beer by making it ultra-hoppy.

Nope. Not illogical.
I believe it’s Oregon who turns the hops up to 11.
Oregon _hipsters_
Henry Weinherd was making good beer for years prior to the hop sewage water.
In my late teens, Henry’s was the beer of choice. We threw a huge party when bottling number 69 came out.
I love hops. It’s just that an oversized share of current beer offerings have too many in them.
Fuckin a
My hatred of hops is very rational, I’ll have you know!
Don’t actually hate them, just don’t need a metric fucking assload of them in my beer, to the point that my face puckers like a raisin when I drink.
^ THIS guy gets it
You can definitely taste the hops in my regular beer, but it’s balanced by a nice toasty maltiness.
It’s the balance that so many contemporary brewers have abandoned. I think it’s like some kind of pissing contest, like who can eat the hottest peppers.
And Yanet Garcia is a spicy pepper.
I think it’s like some kind of pissing contest
Or, as I said, a lot of brewers know that they can cover up not very good beer with a lot of hops.
Abandoned? Have you not seen what the 18th and 19th century Brit brewers did? Current IPAs are a partial return to old school hopping.
But that was probably more out of necessity, rather than a quest for hipster cred.
“face puckers like a raisin”
I am confused, the only beer that does that to me is Gueuze. Which is the opposite of hoppy.
In fact, they tend to use really old hops that have lost most of their power.
Hops are fine. As long as they have been aged for three years in the attic of some brewery in Flanders.
That reminds me… I think I do have 2 ounces of hops sitting in the basement for my next batch of lambic.
Homer’s neighbor ?
I love hops and IPAs. However, I hate that when I go to the store I have the choice between about 100 different IPAs and one or two other styles. That’s the market, I guess. But a little variety would be nice.
I prefer german styles, so I usually just end up with negra modelo these days.
That too. I like lagers, schwartzbier, bocks, etc…..but three quarters of the beer section is made up of IPAs, most of which have major hops overload going on.
Yup. Vienna lager is my perfect beer. But ever since I moved from Fort Co/Loveland Colorado area to North Idaho, the selection is quite diminished. I gotta go way out of my way to find something like a schwartzbier. The local brewpub will occasionally throw people like us a bone (had a nice dunkel not too long ago), but otherwise their selection looks pretty much the same as the stores style-wise.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that IPAs were invented to show how not to brew beer, and demonstrate what makes one undrinkable.
Then someone apparently liked the result.
I thought it was all the Brits stationed in India that took a liking to the style. So I guess this is one the terrible things that we can blame on colonialism.
Which reminds me, English IPAs are better than American IPAs.
Heavy hopping helped beers survived the boat ride around Africa.
Locals discovered they liked it fresh too.
I actually think IPAs are the best for hot weather, especially when refrigeration is not an option. An IPA still tastes like an IPA after it has warmed up quite a bit.
A hot american lager is fucking gross.
Speaking of which. Four Peaks announced they will be releasing The Raj in bottles….
The BF and I have a few breweries on heavy rotation, but two of them stand out: Scholb because the brewer is all over the place with his styles, but still manages to make all of them solid options (and it’s on my way home from work), and Yorkshire Square because English cask ales aren’t something I’m getting anywhere else (and they’re open an hour later than the other local breweries).
Then talk to your store, that’s where the problem is. Right now, my fridge has a lager, a pils, an imperial saison, an American wheat, an IPA, and some stouts in it. And I live in an area with dangerous beer selections at grocery stores (check your freshness dates), and two world class IPA breweries.
The hop comment was more of a dig at the general IPA hatred.
I think the level of IPA hatred is overstated. I think there’s plenty of people who think it’s abused.
People complain because they go to a bar and it is all IPAs. I would complain too…no wait, I wouldnt. I would go somewhere else instead.
Unless it is a special fest, no tap list should be like that with any style. Of course, that also means any decent tap list is going to have a few IPAs on it.
/looks upthread
Nope. I think it’s pretty clearly stated. Yes, a shitty brewery can cover some mistakes with overhopping a bad beer. But that is still a bad beer. Give a good brewery free reign to go with heavy hops and you can wind up with some truly amazing beers.
And yes, if a tap list was all one style, I’d flag someone down, ask if there was an event. If there wasn’t, I’d ask why they went with just a single style. Then wait for the announcement that that location shut down in six months. There’s over 20 breweries within 10 miles of me, and at least 6 amazing beer bars in the same range.
Well that’s great for you. Not all of us are so lucky. And I think that’s something you and robc forget, or ignore. There may not be such a thing as a food desert in America, but there sure as hell is beer deserts.
Another thing to point out; a lot of this IPA hatred (for me, and I assume others) isn’t because my favortie bars have too many IPAs. It’s because my favorite restaurants/food pubs have too many IPA’s. When you go to a great restaurant that also has 40 taps and…20 of them are IPA/PA…give me a break. That’s when the IPA heavy beer list nonsense gets extra frustrating.
…and I’m necro-posting. I blame the non-IPA beer I’ve been drinking.
“check your freshness dates”
Fuck you Spaten!
I know how to convert cryptic date codes because of my former local carrying year old Ofest.
You’re in Vancouver, yes? What was your former local? What’s your current?
I’d probably sooner get back into brewing than try to convince a store to change.
*Looks over at two completely unused Blichman kettles*
*sighs*
Don’t feel too bad. I have a carboy still in it’s shipping box.
What’s holding you back?
I just don’t have the space anymore. Building a shop is a part of my 5 year plan, but we all know how those work out.
Lack of a room with consistent temperature, like a basement.
…among other commitments that take up a lot of time.
I had a couple of these the other day. I like mild beers and this was about perfect.
Not much of a beer guy, but the ABGB lager was pretty damn good on a lazy Sunday afternoon when it was 102 in the shade on their patio.
I have generally been whelmed by Rhinegeist.
I need to remake one of my beers: Hop Assault.
I described it as a perfectly innocent german dopplebock turning down the wrong alley in Portland, OR.
Did you try the Dogfish Head Perfect Disguise? It was an IPA brewed with a kolsch malt bill and yeast. It was good, but I would never have called anything out about it as a kolsch.
Perfect Disguise is one of my favorites, and at least on tap it has some Kolsch character towards the finish.
No Dortmunder Gold?
Fail.
Great Lakes may have not chosen to participate, and I’m not sure if they distribute down there.
That is a very sunny forecast.
Yet she has her headlights on.
Interesting history re: Venezuela: https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/05/venezuela-crisis-1902-lessons-theodore-roosevelt/
Was not aware of this incident previously.
I stand by my previous statements that US direct military action is currently along the likelihood of zero to nil (barring exceptional circumstances – which are unlikely given that I’m pretty sure even our embassy there is closed).
That’s an interesting article. It was rather ballsy of Roosevelt to threaten the British Empire to stay out. The US must’ve had a pretty decent navy to pull that off.
Argh…. I call my 77yo dad to get my angle grinder back and before I can even get a word in, he starts telling me that my mom, for the past couple of days, has been wandering around the house at night. She’s busy changing the house alarm security code, the code and options on the iPad, and counting down the time on their wireless home phones, thinking that something is going to happen.
I went out to a Sunday lunch with her two weeks ago and she seemed completely normal. But she was recently prescribed Trazodone to help with some bad sleep issues – seems to have some paranoid/dementia side-effects with her? Doctor says everything is fine and she can mix it with sumatriptan (for migraines) with no side-effect. Friend of mine – my “street pharmacologist” – calls bullshit on that, saying her side-effects sound like serotonin syndrome. yeah, yeah, he’s no doctor but he’s a lifetime migraine sufferer / anxiety-ridden fellow who knows a lot about er, drugs from experience.
“
Find a good pharmacist and talk to them. A lot, dare I say most, doctors know jack shit about the drugs they prescribe.
I know my mother had issues with trazodone as well similar to what you describe but maybe not to the same extent.
People do weird stuff on sleeping pills. Like piss in a rubbermaid tote full of clothes and then pass out on the couch naked. Or so I’ve been told.
She’s probably fine.
As long as they don’t piss on the couch and pass out in the tote full of clothes?
Nobody likes couch pissers.
Poppy!
Well I got my brothers – including the eldest brother physician – involved. They aren’t local but they can apply the pressure.
Google the side effects of Trazadone. I think you’ll find your answer.
I had horrible side-effects with trazodone. It also didn’t help me sleep. So I stopped after a couple of days.
I don’t know if this has been covered here yet, but apparently Jay Inslee (Washington governor, currently 10th place in the presidential primary rankings) wants to ban all carbon emissions:
Fortunately for America, he’s only pulling 0.8% support. Unfortunately for Washington state, he’s already inflicted similar damage on his home turf:
I hope none of you live in Washington, and if any of you do I hope you are not overly attached to either your electricity or your money.
So we have 11 years to get ride of the ICE engine for new cars. Good luck with that. And even if everyone could start affording Teslas and Bolts, there will still be a fleet of old cars out there for a very, very long time.
And how in the hell would we be able to make enough power – unless we go nuclear – in 11 years?
More Green Deal BS.
I do hope the nation can resist this stupidity long enough for it bear fruit at the state level and be revealed to all (who are willing to see) that it is an absolutely terrible bundle of ideas.
Even going nuke wouldn’t matter. The amount of material needed for transmission lines, substations and other grid components would be very difficult to source, buy and build in that time period.
Doesn’t even begin to crack everything else that utilizes combustion engines, haulers, construction equipment, boats… the list is endless.
Yeah. Goodbye commercial fishing industry.
Cuomo is pushing the same fantasy. Fortunately, it is only a fantasy – but unfortunately it still has the likelihood of wrecking the economy going for it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Shorter: The Green New Deal will completely destroy the economy casting America into unimaginable poverty.
It is a commie fever dream. Never gonna happen.
That’s sure to make housing more affordable.
All their other policies do the opposite. Why change now?
Great article earlier four-score. Solid piece!
Despite all my time in the military around so far – my only real negative union experiences have been the contract crane operators at NAVMAG Indian Island.
In both the private contracted South Seattle Shipyard and the public Navy Shipyard in Pearl Harbor, I managed to get through dry docking experiences with no noticeable union experiences (although possible that my COs may have had to deal with it at a different level).
VA is a right to work state…but I assume going into the Apprentice School in Newport News will require union membership (and anything back in WA or OR is pretty much mandated). That said…the companies are getting reamed by DoD for being so far behind in construction/maintenance that I’m guessing there may not be quite as many issues in shipbuilding…although I’m ready to be disappointed.
MLW’s recaps of that witch show are probably the best things I’ve seen online this year.
The Calculated Annihilation of Essos’s Enrichment of Westeros
You need to post a nerd alert before you post something like that.
I’m gonna need another angle before I say yes or no. Or another drink.
Why not both?
She’s Nerd-hot. Would.
Random fact I learned today: there is a Wikipedia in Anglo-Saxon. Because why not.
Gah, I’m waiting on a customer who forgot he needed his equipment back for a job this weekend. It’s now over an hour past quitting time and I’ve been here since 6am.
Legal ethics in Mississippi:
“So, you’re saying that you would report your client to the police for exercising their First Amendment rights and possibly, maybe also doing something that the state has specifically licensed him to do? Sure you wanna go with that? Or maybe I should ask, sure you wanna keep your license? Perhaps you could direct me to the portion of the Code of Ethics that authorizes you to do this, rather than prohibits you from doing this.”
Exercising ones 1A rights and acting like a crazy person are not mutually exclusive. Writing a sternly worded letter to the editor is one thing, setting up camp and bull-horning your grievances is another. I’m not saying the latter should be illegal but one shouldn’t be surprised when that sort of activity might draw attention/be reported/get looked into.
I am gonna have to go with RC on this one. Unless the guy has been threatening violence he is exercising his rights. He has done nothing to indicate he is a menace.
Terminating the relationship and reporting him to the police shoots his case right in the balls. That is hardly acting in the best interest of the client who is acting within the law, it is acting contrary to his interests.
Also, terminating the client council relationship does not mean the council’s obligation to keep confidential information acquired before that termination is nullified.
Terminating the relationship and snitching to the police is is being a rat which is a rung below being an active pedo.
Displaying signs saying you’ve been wrongfully fired is acting like a crazy person and bullhorning your greviences?
Yes. Setting up camp outside your former place of employment and bitching about a breach of contract is the act of a crazy person, normal people have better things to do and get on with their lives while they let the lawyers figure it out, that is if it’s even worth bringing lawyers in, most of the time it’s not, move on, life is short.
I’d be concerned but I wouldn’t terminate the relationship and I’d advise my client to cut it out. I’ve seen plenty of people protesting their employment situation in front of various businesses and I don’t recall anyone getting shot as a result. Dropping the client is one thing, snitching is another.
Fair enough, “Stop acting like a crazy person, I got this” is probably the what a lawyer should say in that case.
I can get your POV too, not telling on a client that’s acting questionable…and something happens…would be the end of your career. Maybe addressing it on a case by case basis would be the way to go.
Union members are crazy people? I could have sworn that demonstrating outside of the business or residence of someone you have a grievance with dates back to at least Roman times.
Maybe I’m just crazy.
Union members are crazy people?
Yes.

Cenk Uyger is a historically ignorant and/or lying windbag, and generally a douche, example 1,586,001
Really? Coke has made a range of mixers for cocktails… that they’re releasing in the UK only to start with. I’m already interested in several of these flavors for cocktails.
I would try that – even though I prefer not-dark spirits.
Several of those look like they would work well with the traditional rum and coke (which one would depend on the rum being used).
Unrelated, I do want to hurt the photographer for putting them in a 2-1-4-3 order.
Yeah… rum is a dark spirit I won’t touch. Too many bad memories.
Huh, I didn’t realize I’d gotten black out rum-drunk around you, Rhywun. Sometimes I get a bit handsy with the rum and I’d like to apologize for any hurt feelings I may have caused on that front.
Except you were probably in middle school the last time I drank rum. Sorry, you’ll find that guy’s life you ruined some day – keep at it!
“ruined” is probably too extreme. I’m sure I’ve made a few people uncomfortable, and I’ve certainly been difficult to get into a cab and then back out into a home or hotel.
Are you the guy in the elevator my wife and I saw in Las Vegas? He was so drunk he could barely stand. If not for his friend/lover/husband he would have collapsed in the elevator.
What happens in Vegas….
Becomes a submitted article once I finish up with the proofreading?
Don’t forget to change the names to protect the innocent.
Don’t worry, there’s no names, and no innocents.
You’re not Scottish are you? Drinking in a pub in Cleveland about 15 years ago?
Rum is considered a clear liquor. As are vodka, gin, and tequila.
Yeah, I wasn’t actually sure. TBH it sounds like an artificial distinction to be. *tut, tut*
*me
The basic definition is barrel aged equals dark liquor, no barrel aging equals clear liquor. Where you run into issues is some of the barrel aged rums, and barrel aged gins on the market now.
I’m somewhat contemplating starting to write up a series on liquor and cocktails. I have the feeling there’s interest here, but I’d need to build up a pipeline before I commit to anything.
OK that makes some sense.
I suppose I should drink my whisky and coke tonight after the roof work.
Just saw a commercial trying to sell dropping gold out of your portfolio in favor of cryptocurrencies. O.o
If you’re gonna by crypto, do it now.
Their prices have gone up nearly 50% since the start of the year. They’re exhibiting the same pattern as before each of the prior 3 major spikes.
There’s a real chance BTC runs up to 100k before the 2020 election
Interesting thought. Do you have some references on the pattern?
I’ve watched it very closely since 2012 and have made a lot of money by trading on this pattern.
It blows up by 100x-200x over the course of a year, usually in spurts of a few percent at a time from the outset. It will gradually retreat, then another spurt will push it up another 5% to 10%.
It continues until reaching critical mass, which I define as when I start seeing news stories about its price increases. At that point the rocket takes off until it hits 100x-200x of its starting value.
This is when you sell.
Over the next 2 months the price craters down to 10%-20% of the peak value. It hovers there for a several months to a year before the cycle starts anew.
We appear to have just exited the “hover” phase in the last month.
I’ll take a look, thanks.
Dear NBC,
Please get your horses out of my hockey.
Thanks,
Rhywun
Please get your horses out of my hockey.
How long is playoff hockey season, and they can’t rotate in some new commercials? VW-kids-rollercoaster, Acura-slot-car, Wendy’s-biggie-bag, Dunkin’s-Pastrnak, ad nauseum. It’s enough to drive ya to drink.
In fairness I was already drinking.
Joe Rogan Ruins Adam Ruins Everything
I will be heading out tomorrow morning for the annual fishing trip to Vermejo, so I won’t be around much for the next week. Y’all have fun now.
Nice, looks awesome. You gonna fly fish for cutthroat or do some lake fishing?
Shot my only elk there. Good luck, beautiful area.
Looks very hoity toity. Have a great time.
Just testing something. Don’t mind me.
Colored lube in a bag? Could be a market for that.
It’s like the colored sunscreens from the early aughts; you want to make sure all the right bits are thoroughly covered.
…or the purple ketchup.
Grandma used to do that with grandpa’s colostomy bag.
Heh, I actually remember that stuff. Dairy industry lobbying made it illegal to sell yellow-colored margarine (“olemargarine”). Without the coloring it looked like putting crisco on your potatoes.
As usual, i’m still on the morning links…
The Oral and Genital Herpes Viruses Are Having ‘Sex.’ The Result Is Worrisome.
the blurb expresses concern over the effect this will have on current antivirals….I’m concerned the role those antivirals played in causation.
“Hey, have sex with herpes without anyone knowing” can’t possibly have anything to contribute here?
If I understand the mechanism of action with the acyclovir family of drugs correctly, if you are taking them and get exposed to a different strain the new strain would be very unlikely to take hold in your system (especially since having one strain of HSV already primes your immune response making it less likely to pick up a second).
Cleveland breweries will probably win any pun competition on pilsner names. I’m currently drinking a Platform Prague Rock, and I got yelled at when I was at Saucy with the girlfriend and I ordered a glass of their pils, Separate Czechs.
I had Vlad Imperial Stout by Royal Docks from Canton the other night. 13 ABV. Very good flavor. Not sure if you’ve had them or not yet.
I have. They’ve got a couple of good ones, I had a poor experience at their tap room however (they overcharged me). If you’re interested, there’s going to be a beer fest down in Canal Winchester at the BrewDog facility August 24th. It’s the Annual General Mayhem (annual stockholders meeting) for the first couple of hours, but then they’re opening it up to the public.
Sweet. 28ths my Birthday. I still haven’t been there. I was looking to get a room on a Friday or Saturday night one weekend there but they required both nights which didn’t work.
I left LA after court and a visit to the archives at 2:30 today. Estimated drive time is 3 hours (and growing.)
Ihate SoCal traffic.
At least you can enjoy the discarded mattresses and shopping carts.
You’re overlooking the tents, needles, and feces. That’s all in the rear view now. Had to stop for coffee after 2 hours. Just another hour plus to go.
We’re on the road ourselves. No needles other than pine. 1 more hour to the campsite.
Estimated drive time is 3 hours (and growing.)
Sounds like the Lower Mainland during rush hour when one of the main arteries has a bad accident. The rest of the LM just stops moving.
Sometimes its easy, most times it’s a nightmare 24/7
I distinctly remember being stuck in a jam on the 95 at 2:30am just south of LA.
Where is the 95?
Crap. The 5. The 95 is the hell around DC I avoid these days.
I’m getting old.
90 minutes from Westminster to Ontario, at 1230, fucking mess……
Posting while driving? Shame on you!
“Driving.” Sure.

“So the art of debating is one that rewards liars and bullies, is about beating the opponent rather than finding the truth, and is structurally biased in favour of conservative bromides rather than surprising new ideas. If that’s what debate is like, perhaps we shouldn’t aspire to be good at it.”
I watched all of it. Zizek was a rambling lunatic.
So his normal self…
The only other time I’d seen him was a talk with Assange. Yeah, he was a spastic, slobbering loon then, too.
Sure, Jan.
Translation: debate is useless because my side is always right.
Pretty much.
Wow. Surprising new ideas. Maybe you could give some examples? I am pretty certain that all of the ideas the left put forward have been tried and discredited more times that Winston’s mom. (my first Winston’s mom joke)
I am not aware that anyone on the left has aspired to be good at debate. Lying and bullying seem to be SOP for them. After all, if you cant debate, that’s all you have left.
All projection, all of the time.
He’s not wrong in staying that most debate has devolved into demagoguery and ad hominem foolishness. His mistake is tossing out the entire concept instead of advocating for a return to logic and reason.
But then again, I suspect his opposition to that reform is strategic.
Any person can be good at debate, no matter how wrong they are. The problem is that the most American leftists have weak educations where they could get by being lazy and merely parroting their professors. They never had to study hard, being able to think, or defend their ideas. The average Cuban Bachillerato can argue communism better than most American PhD’s.
Today, I hate tape guns, Sprinter vans, and the color taupe.
I miss real vans, such as the E350.
Taupe is a crime against optic nerves everywhere.
Islanders are, after the fashion of WInson’s mom, fucked.
“To feed the world, why not eat bugs? Many insects are nutritious and packed with protein. They could help feed the world and reduce the effects of food production on climate change.”
https://twitter.com/CNN/status/1124112177441517570
No.
What are you going to feed the bugs?
This is more of the ‘we can change the laws of nature’ canard the left loves to trot out. The nature of the food chain does not change no matter what we are eating. This is about punishing deplorables, nothing more. Amazing the amount of spite and malice they have for people they have never met.
Go ahead and eat bugs you idiot fuckstick. I am gonna stick with beef, chicken and pork.
Because bugs are not historically eaten in a widespread fashion we have developed little to no immunity to the parasites they carry. Eating bugs will expose you to some horrific pathogens and parasites.
*Background info: When a population of hosts is exposed to a population of pathogens it tends to be disastrous for both. The hosts, having no immunity, are killed in large numbers quickly. The pathogens, being able to run amok, kill the individual hosts before they can spread to another and thus die also. Thus, over time the pathogens evolve to wards being benign and the hosts evolve to wards being resistant.
Eat a raw grasshopper or slug or snail and see what happens. For that matter, despite our long exposure to roaches, they are still the most common vector for most human illness.
I have fried some tomato hornworms in the past. Not exactly what I would call fulfilling.
Dude….they eat tomato leaves. Tomato is a nightshade. The leaves are poisonous and those worms are stuffed full of chewed up, undigested nightshade. You know….poison. Perhaps cooking degrades the poison but…why would you eat that when you can eat shrimp, fish, pork, chicken, beef and a plethora of delicious, non-poison?
*My wife was recently telling me about a recipe for turnips that made them taste just like potatoes.
“I hate turnips”
Her: “But they taste just like potatoes if you cook them like this”
“Why would I do that when I can easily have…you know…potatoes?”
A wise man* once said, “If you want a piece of wood to end up looking like cherry, your best bet is to start with cherry.”
*That was me.
