Upper 80s last weekend, and now three days of showers with four more on the way. Welcome to May in Idaho.
Guess what! There were birthdays today. I have no idea who.
I’ll bet he cut the feet off of diabetics too.
Apparently, lawyers in the military have no more integrity than Michael Cohen.
Colbert is a cunt. I can’t imagine why late night ratings are dropping faster than OMWC’s turkey neck.
No rain here.
And congrats! You got all the formatting done correctly! 😉
Woohoo! Sun broke out today so I was able to get the lawn mowed.
So, fake news?!?!11??
Today turned out to be a pretty nice day. Four days of rain starts tonight though, so I’m on the patio sipping a cocktail.
Excellent. Enjoy. It’s been low 50’s and 25mph wind here all day. I’ve been inside.
Rain and cold here, too.
I drove the convertible every day this week, though, so there is hope!
Tornadoes south of us, nothing but rain all day here.
You could have set that to music:
Tornadoes to the south of us,
Jokers to the north!
Here I am,
Nothing but rain all day here.
But I’m willing to bet the temperatures are nicer almost anywhere else. 🙂
Possibility of rain tomorrow and Monday. Hopefully nothing in the morning tomorrow when I plan to mow the lawn.
It’s raining here in Santa Clarita. I’ve live in the LA area since 1996. This spring is by far the wettest I can recall. Typically, LA gets its rain during the winter. This year, not only have we had rain far later than is typical, but the temperatures have been very mild as well. I don’t think it’s been about 73 for more than a full week this spring. Very unusual.
I blame Al Gore.
No no no. You’re supposed to say I blame Trump.
*hangs head in shame*
Guess what! There were birthdays today. I have no idea who.
My doggy, for one. She turns eleven.
Beautiful rain with rare thunderstorm along side it today. Combined with the burn pile, it feels just like camping and I didn’t have to drive two hours and pitch a tent.
I hope she got some steak for dinner!
My boy turns 12 in August. Old dogs are the best.
Tomorrow when everyone else gets one. She always gets something from the grill.
Tonight though she gets a prednisone “biscuit” and ear drops, along with her usual lavish spread.
I hope she is feeling better.
Thanks, she’s really doesn’t show any signs of suffering other than her ears bothering her occasionally and the prednisone seems to have decreased the irritation to nothing.
The real suffering comes from getting her ears irrigated in the morning and drops in the evening by her torturer papa. 😉
That’s good to hear. Is she jumpy from the prednisone? Whenever I’ve taken it I felt like I was on speed. Although, maybe it doesn’t have that effect on dogs.
The one time I took prednisone I got really excited– I mean bouncing off the walls excited — to cut the grass.
That is when I realized I was experiencing euphoria — which my doctor had warned me about.
“Colbert is a cunt”
I can’t argue with that.
I won’t argue, but I’ll quibble with it. He’s a smarmy cunt.
I want to like him, because he’s an alumni of my college and he does support the school. But I just can’t support a cunt.
This would never happen to Chuck Norris.
Pretty good line from Ahnold:
I like that he took the wind out of the shit-stain’s sails by blowing the whole thing off. Ahnold said he thought he had simply been jostled by the crowd – didn’t know he’d been kicked until he saw the video.
He is smarter than generally given credit.
You know which other Austrian was smarter than is generally given credit?
Robert P. Murphy?
Somehow my mind didn’t go there… nice.
*Opera clap*
I love Murphy’s Twitter feed. His (relatively) new podcast is good, too.
Crocodile Dundee?
In high school we had an Austrian exchange student who wore a shirt saying that there aren’t kangaroos in Austria.
Falco?
That Hayek dude?
Hayeksplosives? She is definitely not a dude.
I have showed up intoxicated to the Red Dog, and left more intoxicated as well as poorer back in the 90’s and early ot’s. Also, would.
Just don’t piss her off around a pool table.
I havn’t been there in almost 20 years, but they had many pool tables back in the day. I have a weakness for playing pool with strippers.
When I had to go to OKC for work…a lot of coworkers would haunt the Red Dog….I avoided that place like the plague. Of course the places I picked were no better.
I was stuck there for close to a decade. I hate Oklahoma. I hate a lot of things so I may just be a hater. There is good food in OKC and some right proper dive bars though. The Red Dog is not a proper dive bar it is a stripper bar. Totally different.
So… what’s a dive bar?
lol
??♂️
I think the dive bar argument is at least a much more fun argument than abortion, pizza, or circumcision. On the other hand, I picked up some fresh oranges which means I can make one of my favorite complex cocktails tonight.
That looks good. Anything with Grand Marnier is good. It is a must in margaritas.
I’m not a fan of gin, but that sounds tasty.
It’s a tasty drink, but it’s one that requires a few ingredients, and have only ordered in bars where I’m already a regular (and am tipping heavy).
Light the Rhywun signal.
Ha, it does sound delicious but I lack half the ingredients.
I once managed to convince a drunk dopey tourist chick at a singles resort in Ocho Rios that Jamaica’s main attraction was the scenic canyon called the Grand Marnier. Oh, and that the official Jamaican currency was Samoleans.
You may ask, what was I doing in said resort? My buddy won a trip for two to there for coming in 2nd place on the Jeopardy TV game show, and couldn’t convince any female to go with him. He was doomed to 2nd place after he accidentally called Alex Trebek “Alice”.
To enter a dive bar one must descend steps into stench and darkness. Even on the brightest of days a proper dive bar will take several minutes for ones eyes to adjust to the lack of light. I say day, because a proper dive bar must be experienced during daylight when the professional drinkers are there and not the youngsters. The floor is covered with sticky indoor outdoor carpet that has not been cleaned for at least a decade. Cigarette smoking is not only allowed, it is encouraged.

Correct answer.
Rainy and cold here so no bike ride. However, a couple of evenings ago I saw these guys on the ride.
http://imgur.com/gallery/Csg60L5
It’s supposed to rain tomorrow evening again. I’m hoping to get a ride in tomorrow morning.
It’s supposed to rain tomorrow morning. It’s a brewday. We brew outside (brew kettle’s too big for inside). Fingers crossed the rain ends by 10am as forecasted.
Hope your Sunday/Brewday goes well. I’ve been slacking in the home brewing recently.
Thanks!
We’ve only done two so far this year. We’re aging an imperial stout for at least a year. I have two carboys sitting in a closet upstairs, off my music/reading room. It’s nice to pop in the closet to get some more CDs from the shelves and see that lovely dark nectar.
The left pretending to give a shit about farmers is pretty rich.
Any chance to score political points…
Yeap. Politics is pandering.
Does contempt count as caring? If so they were successful.
The video is making fun of them because they voted for Trump, hence the cunt moniker.
Yep, and that is pretty rich coming from morons that voted for The Hildebeast.
The Wisconsin dairy farmer branch of my family is pretty hard-core Democrat. A big chunk of them are dedicated progressives, so we don’t talk politics.
I think Hillary demonstrated how much attention they pay to Wisconsin.
I kind of enjoy this new line of thinking. Restrictions on voluntary trade cause massive problems for people. Colbert will apply this to taxes in general, right?
Trump doesn’t seem to want a second term. First, the whole “send the illegals to Florida” idea, and now pushing too hard against China causing some downstream effects. He should know to only do things that piss off Left Coast voters, since they aren’t voting for him anyway.
They backpedaled on Florida when Trump found out about it.
I wouldn’t believe a single thing seen on the MSM outlets.
How about HotAir? If you’re limiting your comment to the China trade deal, you may be right. I haven’t seen anything about that from anyone I’d trust.
LOL
THE SNAKE HAS NO HEAD!!!!
You have a point. We are about to find whether he is a brilliant, hig risk trade negotiator or economic ignoramus with a giant ego.
10-15 years ago this strategy would have worked for sure, not so certain now.
I was trying my damndest to get Scott Adams’ Twitter followers to understand why tariffs aren’t good, don’t help who they’re supposed to, and end up costing $. No amount of links to objective evidence would sway them. I thought mercantilism died with the marginal revolution. *sigh*
Why not both?
People haven’t had enough info to make that choice yet?

Anybody have any action on the Preakness?
Hyperion on May 18, 2019 at 11:09 am
Good afternoon, shitlords. I’m sort of hungover. Got to snap out of it and go walk/run. Godamn Preakness bullshit is pissing me off. Shut up, just shut the fuck up. I’m taking donations to help convert Pimlico into a glue factory
No quite the action I was thinking of…
I got a bj this morning…
Is that what you meant?
win/place AND show…..good on ya
Was the horse race on TV?
No tv, it’s a distraction.
Only if she swallowed.
Not sure how that is horse related unless it has Sarah Jessica Parker.
I’m jealous.
Negative. I try not to bet on things I don’t really understand. Horse racing is way up on the lists of things I don’t follow, nor really understand.
Me either. For me it’s more like a lottery ticket. Of maybe a scratch-off is a better analogy…
I used to enjoy picking up a program first thing in the morning and spending the day looking at the stats figuring out who was the best bet. I could have just thrown the program away and never went to the track and would have been fine. If I picked the horses I liked to Show and didn’t bet a lot I could usually get my beers paid for. Of course, as soon as I got greedy, I lost money.
The first time I picked up a program was a family trip to Kentucky for the derby. I knew nothing about any of it. Reading/figuring out the stats was fun but I never really knew what I was doing. I think the fun was in thinking I knew what I was doing. Self delusion is fun.
Never bet on a horse named Buzzard Bait. I learned that one the hard way.
Well that’s a first for me. I’m sure it happens all the time but I’ve never seen a jockey bucked off in a race.
Did they have to shoot any horses?
I told this story a few weeks ago, but I’m telling it again cause I love it.
I had a friend that was a jockey in his youth and became a racehorse trainer after he was too old to race. He was a fucking classic Irishman, loved his booze and good laughs. He told me one time about his first race back when he was 15 in Ireland. The jockey who was supposed to race didn’t show and the owner needed someone to race. “Do you think ye could manage it, Johnny? The only thing you have to do is stay on the nag and not win, place or show.” He absolutely could and he finished in fourth. “That was a fine job indeed, Johnny. Do you think ye coulda beat the horses in front a ye.”
“I could indeed, sir. But the horses behind me, I wouldn’t be too sure about.”
RIP Racehorse Roche

Haha. That was good.
HA!
Mommy and Daddy are fighting.
I also have to say, Amash’s Twitter thread now contains the most Trumptardian of Trumptard replies:
It’s like looking into the butthole of God.
I would have preferred:
UR A DARKIE FAGET LIBTURD. GO BACK TO UR COUNTRY.
Well, there is this:
Russian plants!
Fake news. @RickyRayinGA has got to be a Russian bot.
I was thinking kazimirov. It’s right there in the name.
Nothing says libertarian like doing the bidding of the Deep State.
Also impeaching somebody for obstructing a investigation into a crime that did not happen will lead to great things in the future.
“multiple examples” of Trump committing obstruction of justice.”
Such as? We already got the pressuring of Comey bit and I am not buying that one. Give us some more examples. Orange Man Bad?
I say we all, like Amash, read the entire report.
Ain’t nobody got time for that.
At this point who can be believed? We have always thought of them as liars extraordinaire but the lies usually had some passing relationship with something resembling evidence. After the Russia hoax why bother listening to anything they have to say? It was always transparently bullshit but they ran with it, balls to the wall, even appointing a special prosecutor to go on a three year investigation into something they knew on day one was a fabrication.
I think we should make all of those motherfuckers pay the money spent on that witch hunt back out of their own pockets. Want to play games? Do it on your own dime.
I would have fired Comey on the first day. In fact I would give new meaning to the term ‘New Broom’.
Getting rid of incompetent corrupt shitheads, upsetting the status quo and implementing policies people disagree with are not high crimes and misdemeanors. It just means your guy didn’t win.
Heh, is that a southern way of saying someone finally started cleaning their house?
This I believe.
So why doesn’t Amash start the process? File it already. Shit or get off the pot. I am sick of hearing Trump will be impeached or did something impeachable. Do it or STFU already. I have not read the report so maybe something is in there, but if their basis for impeachment is “pressuring” Comey, Amash and his staff are idiots with another agenda.
This may be the beginning of just that.
Doubtful. They will have to list specific charges of high crimes and so far no one seems willing to do that.
It seems odd for Amash to just be engaging in a little throat clearing at this late stage of the game.
I would not have expected this from him but I do expect him to ante up. He needs to substantiate it. So far it just looks like Schiff’s “I have seen the evidence” charade.
That’s my thinking too. It would be out of character for Amash to flex without something substantial (in his mind, anyway) behind it.
HM has it right. Amash has a history of marshaling facts to support his conclusions. I suspect we will find out soon the details that lead him to this conclusion.
Then I hope he does. Seriously I am sick of hearing about it. Lets have the charges already. I do find it odd that someone who portrays himself as a libertarian is more concerned with Trumps supposed obstruction than what started this horseshit to begin with. Someone wanting to promote liberty which is the enemy of an over reaching all powerful state would wonder how Gov agencies spied on a political campaign and influence an election. This is why I want charges against Trump already. Lets move past it impeachment or not but god damn people need to go to jail for how this shit started.
Let’s be real. Amash was fighting against Obama’s use of the NSA for domestic surveillance before it was cool.
Ya, he fixed that.
Fixing that is going to take more than just one legislator with balls. It’s gonna take the lot of them and a house cleaning of the intelligence community.
Yes he was and I am generally a fan of Amash that is why I find this surprising.
If you got the goods Peanut, let’s see ’em. If they measure up, they measure up but let’s quit with the insinuation and claims of evidence that never materializes.
Amash is a Never Trumper. I think he’s experiencing a flare up.
Oh, is that what it is? I didn’t know but it sure has that smell.
That is my take as well, he’s got a blind spot on Trump, for whatever reason.
Agreed. I suspect Amash truly believes what he tweeted.
However, based on everything I’ve read, the investigation Trump may have tried to obstruct was fucking BS from the get go.
More to the point, it’s especially BECAUSE Trump is such a boor and a blowhard that people like Amash should be more pissed off at what it certainly appears was a Deep State attempt to derail the candidacy of an opposing party. That shit is far more disturbing to me than any of Trump’s loudmouth complaints about the investigation.
If my reading of what people like Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Obama’s DOJ, and many in the upper ranks of the FBI did is correct. Amash is making a huge error here, and is directing his attention in the wrong direction.
Yes, but only before he learned it was used against the worst of the worst, the racist of the racist, the Naziest of the Nazis: Donald J. Trump and his supporters. Now that the deplorables are suddenly on the verge of caring about domestic surveillance, it’s time for Amash and his minuscule gang of libertarians-for-deep-state supporters to reveal their true colors.
Justin Amash is a piece of shit. He and his supporters don’t share my values.
That about sums it up for Amash, Cato and Reason.
Oh and liberalism has always had a weakness for Deep State Top Men. And liberals have never been very principled ever. John Locke for example.
Has he called out the use of the Steele Dossier and FISA warrants to spy on presidential campaign?
Listen, you don’t have to agree with his interpretation of Muller Report, but that’s Bull–Fucking–Shit.
Stupid Party.
“Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about. I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot. I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat.”
Sounds like it wasn’t a very good kick.
It looks like he slipped a bit on the launch. It landed solid but the guy was significantly smaller than Arnold and landed it on muscle. He really just barely knocked Schwarzenegger off balance.
Not sure what that was all about.
I expect the shit-stain who landed the kick just wanted to say he had once knocked down Arnold Schwarzenegger – as if it was a fair fight.
I think the guy had a couple screws loose.
Maybe he could give a press conference and get Obama’s sign language guy to stand behind him and sign his explanation.
I thought he said he needed a kidney. ENUNCIATION!
We need common sense kick control!
But I’ve seen plenty of movies where a 130lb woman can literally kick a 230 man half way across the room. So why couldn’t this guy? Aliens…?
I love seein’ the white cat playin’ piano around the 8 minute mark.

Damn it, not sure how that happened…….
Because there are only two choices: Communist Utopia or a far-right Christian Theocracy.
That sure makes things simple.
To be fair to AOC, she’s simple.
I would like to hear more details from her on why being against abortion is proof-positive of being in favor of a Christian theocracy.
I see. Well… praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition.
I was at my local grocer picking up my allocation of Pliny the Elder, and they had slider samples at the meat counter. Angus beef patties with herbs and bleu cheese on a freshly baked brioche bun.
It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, so all of the ingredients came home with me.
Making onion marmalade and drinking beer now.
Does your local grocer deliver to Brooklyn?
I’m going to try to get the recipe next time I go. I think that in addition to the bleu cheese, there’s also some black bean paste in the patties. Whatever it is, it works.
Huh. I’m still in the don’t-put-anything-but-spices-in-the-patty camp. Kudos if they worked it out.
You don’t put it IN the patty. You make the two separately and then spread a layer of the black beans on the top of the cooked patty. Sharp cheddar on top of the beans.
1 can black beans, undrained.
1 chicken boullion cube
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 heavy dash of granulated garlic or one clove crushed
1 generous dash of ground cayenne
1 tablespoon of chili powder
2-3 slices of bacon or equivalent of salt pork- half cooked
Dump all of that in a blender and blend until it is a paste. Put in small sauce pan and cook on medium low, stirring now and then so it doesn’t stick until taste testing tells you that the onion is cooked.
Smear a layer on your burger patty
Use a layer as a foundation for other ingredients in a taco or taco salad
Nachos…no need to elaborate
Top with sharp cheddar, fresh chopped onion, tomato and some jalapeños – grab a bag of corn chips and dive in
The uses as an ingredient are endless. Once. you try this you will never eat other beans again.
That makes more sense.
Make sure it is hot enough to melt the cheese. Sticking a few jalapeños in it never hurts.
Sliders are an exception. I wouldn’t put anything in a burger unless it was a slider.
*Taps foot, looks at ceiling and hums*
Black bean paste…who woulda thunk it?
Why would you add black bean paste to perfectly good Angus burger? Next thing you know, someone is going to put eggs and breadcrumbs in it.
Deep dish hamburgers?
Oh, dude. That was a direct shot at you. Set the wayback machine to my first day on the Glibs, talking about hamburgers. 😛
I got it. I was laughing.
Needs moar pineapple.
I will admit to jealousy that you can get Pliny on a regular basis… but at least I can get Two Hearted whenever I want.
It’s also entertaining watching another grocery store (Meijer) move into the Cleveland market. We’ve already got Giant Eagle, Target, WalMart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Heinen’s, EarthFare, and several local places.
Nobody needs 23 different grocery store chains.
Thankfully we’re not their yet. But people still complain in the local papers about “food deserts”.
Which reminds me, we’ve also got Dave’s (specializes in low income neighborhoods and Mexican/Hispanic cuisine).
I read one of those reports. There is a giant H-Mart in the middle of one of those “food deserts”. I suspect that the big chains want subsidies.
They have Bell’s at Whole Foods, but I try not to go there for a number of reasons.
Ah, checking on it, Southern California does get Bell’s beer. Hope you enjoy it if you can. If it means anything, when I met Greg from Stone, his beer of choice here in Ohio was Bell’s Two Hearted.
BevMo carries Bells, as do many good indie bottle shops in the southland.
Oh, but Russian River is expanding. Maybe they’ll ship out of their current market soon.
I’m well aware. I’m more annoyed that they distribute to PA but not OH.
Pliny was long one of my favorites. Nowadays, there are so many good IPAs out there (El Segundo’s Mayberry is a prime example), it’s not as impressive.
Still a good beer, mind you. Two Hearted is good as well.
Thankfully, Green Flash got their head out of their ass and pretty much went back to their original recipe for their West Coast IPA.
No so thankfully, it’s expensive (and the new label design makes it look like grape soda pop).
What herbs exactly?
Alpert and Tarlek.
I’m actually not sure. The patties are their recipe. Will find out next time I go.
Had some brat samples at the store today, purchased said product. First time ever, usually I just try the sample and move on.
If Gun Jesus’ book’s kickstarter campaign hits $500K, there will be a livestream of Gun Jesus making and drinking cocktails.
I had a friend who, in the early aughts made a web comic where Jesus and Buddha were roommates, and for shits and giggles he (of hispanic decent) drew a swastika on one of his younger cousins in permanent marker. I was discouraged to find out recently he’s progish.
Why does he need half of a mil for a book? All he needs is a word processor.
He’s also starting a publishing house.
Just watched a bunch of Soph vids on bitchute. Jesus, shes smart.
“BuzzFeed’s attack on @sewernugget has caused an EXTREME backlash at Soph’s school. According to another student, someone spat on her, and there’s a group of kids planning to stage some kind of walkout.”
https://twitter.com/nickmon1112/status/1129834942769389570
I notice that none of the people attacking her bother to attack the veracity of her claims. I am reminded of the release of Hillary’s emails. Her complaint was “No fair! You weren’t supposed to learn the truth!” No one ever said what was revealed was not true, just that we weren’t supposed to find out.
I doubt that it’s the kids. It’s more likely the faculty or some outside group.
If you watch her ‘be not afraid’ video, they are doing exactly what she said they’d do…
I’m not sure what claims they are supposed to challenge… her stuff is a stream of Denis Miller style rants, filled with sarcasm and a thesaurus worth of $25 words. She doesn’t seem to claim things so much as (viciously) mock them. I don’t know how you’d parse out a claim other than “this is some stuff I find mockable”.
On Islam: “Yeah, it’s great. I mean, I have to get raped by my 40 year old husband every now and then…..” That’s not so much a claim as a really nasty mocking of a stereotype that is based in the story of their prophet. I guess you could “debunk” the (not stated) idea that all Muslim girls are forced into arranged marriages with much older men while in their early teens. But really, is that the same thing as “attacking the veracity of claims”.
I think her only (or at least main) claim is that she disapproves of things of the progressive left.
How’s that social tolerance going?
Oh, dear lord…
Pretty horribly. Police are investigating “after north bay teen makes hate-based videos”.
This gives me hope: The Supreme Court Finally Takes Up a Second Amendment Case.
Just please, Kavanaugh, don’t be another squish. Of course, if SCOTUS does provide a standard of review, I have no doubt it will be less than strict scrutiny.
Prediction: It won’t be handled as a gun case but rather a property rights/commerce clause case.
I guess that prediction could be way off depending on the actual legal arguments made by the petitioners.
The minority will invoke the Commerce Clause. I think a 5-4 majority will find this restriction unconstitutional. Whether they will also clearly state the correct level of scrutiny to apply in Second Amendment cases is anyone’s guess.
It gives me hope and fear at the same time. Entrusting natural rights to a tiny group of unelected clowns in robes is always a risky proposition. If they rule the right way, it’ll signal the states to put the brakes on gun grabbing, at least for a while. If they go the wrong way, we’ll see an explosion of anti-2A legislation/regulation, comfortable in the fact that the courts will uphold whatever bullshit they throw.
I know, it’s highly risky. And I can see Roberts and Kavanaugh persuading the more conservative justices to compromise between strict scrutiny and rational basis review. So-called intermediate scrutiny will allow our anti-2A lower courts to continue their crusade of upholding anti-2A laws. So while I have hope, it will likely be dashed.
Same here. I will put on a brave face but I will be sweating bullets. Ya’ never know with those fuckers.
Other than a transparent attempt to prevent residents of a range-desert from practicing with their arms I can’t think of any reason why such a bizarre law was put in place. Of course it is wildly unconstitutional, like everything the gun grabbers do. In a world with literate courts it would never have gotten past the first courtroom. It would have been struck down with prejudice.
Why can you transport any of your property outside the city except one particular type of property? In what way does this serve any useful end or interest of anyone?
In what way does this serve any useful end or interest of anyone?
It gives cops a tool to fuck with people.
How so? If a NYC cop catches someone they will still be inside the city. If they are caught outside the city it will be by a cop that has no jurisdiction to enforce NYC law. It is nuts. It is just another one of those ‘make so many laws no man can live without breaking them’ laws, but it seems toothless.
One for instance, if you stop someone on the Henry Hudson or I-87 heading north out of the city after the last exit in the city, and he’s got a gun, he’s carrying his gun out of the city , and therefore is in violation of the law.
That law doesn’t make any sense.
That law doesn’t make any sense.
Yes, just like a lot of laws.
True, but this seems especially odd. The city is against guns, so they are against people taking guns out of the city.
The only thing that comes to mind is that the vast majority of license holders are probably cops.
In NYC this is undoubtedly true.
I still think Heller was an attempt to close the door on reasonable gun rights that went sideways.
A bit too late…
My thought as well, the guy is a total shitbag, maybe he did rape that uggo.
Let’s not go nuts here.
Sometimes I wonder if Democrats are a hell of a lot smarter than they appear (I never doubted they were evil). Case in point: Kavanaugh. He was the quintessential establishment judge. When the Dems decided to defame him at the hearings, they knew the backlash against them would be immense; after their malicious conduct, Kavanaugh just had to be appointed.
And yet, the Dems still won; they got another Roberts instead of a Gorsuch. Expect more bullshit, convoluted “compromise” a la NFIB v. Sebelius which further whittles down our rights.
The Ratchet effect, and the left owns the Culture and the institutions.
I don’t even get this. You can’t take a legally owned thing from one area where it is legal to another place where it’s legal? That would be a jurisdictional nightmare. Under the logic of this code, I as Mayor of Green Bay, WI would legally be able to pass an ordinance that no resident of Green Bay could travel New York. This is absurdity of the highest order.
Thast why I think they’ll find a way to strike it down (because it really is crazy) without actually helping your average gun owner, by making it a commerce clause issue.
Also why are we so dependent on some judges? I always found that a weak point. Who appoints these judges, why should they rule the way we like and what sort of legal education do they have and who where do they get it from and from who?
Cute libertarian alert:

Would.
Is she mythical?
On the impeachment thingy, there are 45 Dem Senators and two independents who caucus with Dems. So they will need at least 20 Republicans to vote to convict. Mitt Romney is a lock. I’m sure there are a couple more Never Trumpers who will.
What are the odds 15 or so Repubs turn?
Zero. There is zero chance of a conviction in the senate. I don’t see that they have any claims that amount to the requirement for impeachment in the house. If they go ahead with it then after they step on their dicks their tit is gonna be in the wringer. Trump is going to be re-elected, even in spite of himself. My god, look at the loons running against him.
There is zero chance of a conviction in the senate.
You’re probably right.
I don’t see that they have any claims that amount to the requirement for impeachment in the house.
If you mean there is not enough evidence to prove a crime, impeachment is entirely political. If Congress had enough votes to remove a sitting president, SCOTUS would not stop it, no matter Congress’s motivation.
And most of these folks are not even bothering to pretend that there’s an actual “high crimes and misdemeanors” predicate to the charges. Sure, the scream the words, but most of them know they are lying and just want their side to win.
I don’t believe for half a second that Nancy Pelosi really thinks Barr lied to congress. She’s as nasty a partisan as there is, and even she seemed to acknowledge that she was full of crap as she gave a full-throated condemnation of Barr.
Many of those top-level politicians are like that. They mouth words they don’t believe with great skill, simply because it is their role I met Charlie Rangle once, and he was one of the absolute worst offenders on TV – yet in private he was hilarious and charming and gave us a strong hint that he doesn’t believe 90% of the stuff he claims on TV – he’s just playing a character, so to speak. I think that is true of most of them. They may have been full of fire and brimstone at one point, but years of performing the shtick has made it into a job, more than a “from the heart” thing. And most of them are not completely stupid, so they understand what they are doing.
Which kinda makes it better….. and worse.
The next time a libertarian makes some comment about New Zealand being a good option for libertarians to move to if the US becomes too statist, I’m going to make them listen to the last two months’ worth of Jacinda Ardern’s press conferences and public statements. Damn, she’s a fucking elitist, arrogant, condescending, statist bitch. What the FUCK is a humane internet? It’s an inanimate piece of technology – it can’t be humane or inhumane.
A cowardly cunt that hides behind armed security that she has no intention of giving up.
Wasn’t this almost entirely based on Rogernomics?
And Libertarians making grandiose statements that aren’t really true, never happened before.
And a nasty little xenophobe. But xenophobia directed at Americans is A-OK.
One that doesn’t encourage teenaged pupils to spit on a wrong-thinker? (See above.)
At this point, your best chance of living libertarian is going way off the grid in someplace like Northern Canada or Siberia. Some place where the government doesn’t have quite as much reach.
“VIDEO: Southbridge Police say this surveillance video from inside the high school shows a teacher dropping a bullet in a rear stairwell. He returns minutes later and calls it in, causing a school lockdown this morning.”

Why does a bullet cause a lockdown?
It might go off and kill a child.
https://twitchy.com/brettt-3136/2019/05/18/do-you-strive-for-perfection-you-too-might-be-a-white-supremacist/
Apparently perfectionism, objectivity and individualism, meritocracy and Protestant Work Ethic are all White Supremacy now.
If you strive for perfection you won’t rely on the government, therefore we must shun you.
Also how is individualism “white supremacy”? Isn’t that sort of race-based thinking rather collectivist?
Logic is for white supremacists.
I am pretty sure they literally have said that exact same thing.
Saw the Post article. The schools chancellor is straight out of lefty activist central casting.
Now? The left has been hell bent for leather all along promoting incompetence. Math and science are white supremacy last I heard.
Ask and ye shall receive.

There are a hundred good reasons to impeach Trump from illegally bombing Syria to using executive authority to ban bump stocks to continuing the War in Yemen. Obstructing a bullshit investigation peddled by neocons and the intelligence community is not a good one.
I can’t figure out if Amash is trying to save face after having pushed the conspiracy and the special investigation or if he’s just being loyal to his funders, but there has been a stark difference in response to the Russia investigation and its xenophobic warmongering from Koch funded outlets (Reason and CATO) and every other libertarian publication that trashed it from the beginning (Liberty, Libertarian Institute, FEE, etc.).
“There are a hundred good reasons to impeach Trump from illegally bombing Syria to using executive authority to ban bump stocks to continuing the War in Yemen.”
If those were good reasons, every President could be impeached.
And that’s a bad thing?
Exactly
It’s a bad thing because we know it will only be selectively used against the “right” people.
He did say “every” president.
That’s the problem isn’t it? We can be “principled” and turf Trump and get statist Democrats in power and empower the Deep State or we can be unprincipled and keep Trump but he is no libertarian.
Outside of culture war histronics, I see no need to resort to lifeboat ethics.
What fun is it if we can’t float above everyone and mock their silliness?
You do know the classical liberals were cultural warriors extraordinaire and not only did the liberals support the kulturkampf but it was a liberal who coined that term?
Yes, but what does that have to do with me?
Saying “Get out of the culture war” sounds like whistling past the graveyard when Free Speech is now a culture war issue. Also culture is important and libertarians owes a lot to the original culture warriors. Even “Natural Rights” is a culture war issue since it was a rejection of the divine right of kings and Locke was using it to refute Robert Filmer which was a definite cultural issue against the Catholics.
It’s more that I disagree with your original dilemma. An imperfect Trump isn’t the only thing standing between us and reeducation camps. We’ve already experienced Imperator Obama, and I have no reason to believe, outside of aesthetic preference, that a counter-factual Imperator Clinton would have been any better or worse than the factual Imperator Trump. In short, I don’t believe it is so dire at this point that we have to sacrifice principle for survival.
OK fair enough. I don’t think Trump is the only thing standing between the re-education camps but things aren’t getting better and I’m not sure they will anytime soon. The fact that he is preferable to much of the current political class is far from optimal to put it mildly.
Who cares? I can’t control the corporate press’ propaganda. I’m just saying that every modern day president should have been impeached for a multitude of crimes, but this unending Russia conspiracy is horseshit.
We can no longer say that skepticism of the intelligence community is a shared principle of all those who call themselves libertarian
Of course not but it means putting the system down with a bullet behind the ear like it’s a mad dog.
Do we want to do that? History tells us that is one hell of a gamble and a general sense of public opinion tells me that we likely will get something much worse.
How is it a gamble for Congress to get its collective balls back? Half of the shit that has lead to the imperial presidency is the 17th Amendment. If we had the Senate elected by state legislatures, like the Constitution intended, Senators would be more empowered to push back against executive overreach.
Because in the shuffle someone is going to pull an ace out of their sleeve. You don’t need a hot civil war to get a Napoleon or a Hitler.
There are about a hundred of them slavering all over themselves right now praying for the chance to do just that.
I agree with you that in our current climate an attempt to impeach Trump would turn out badly for all involved and I am in no way desirous of it.
It’s a bad thing because chaos leads to totalitarianism.
Let’s not discriminate against our wonderful congresscritters and federal bureaucrats, now. In fact, I would say our senators and representatives are more responsible. They could rein in executive abuses if they wanted.
Well they can’t right now. They have to have both the house and the senate. Oh, and the Oval Office. As soon as they get that they will get right on it.
The vibe I got from Amash was he was one of the ‘cool’ libertarians. Isn’t he the one that was in a band? So, perhaps he has a smoking gun, or perhaps he just wants to be seen smoking with James Gunn. I dunno. But, on the information I have, it seems to be the latter.
Amash changed once the Chamber of Commerce put big money into defeating him in his second race. He needed big money to save his seat and those Ron Paul donor lists weren’t going to cut it.
The Kochs have never prioritized foreign policy.
The divide is already virtually irreconcilable. Cosmos have practically gone full on neocon at this point. Between bemoaning the decline of the Weekly Standard, mourning the passing of McCain, and Reason giving the Bastiat prize to Bari Weiss there is no way you can argue that someone like Scott Horton shares anything in common with someone like Cathy Young.
Cosmos are basically becoming indistinguishable from neocons and Rothbardians are going to befriend populists again (at least they agree on foreign policy). It’s 1992 again
Again? I was never aware there was a split.
Outside of Walter Block, who has repented, I can’t think of any Rothbardian who backed or backs Trump unequivocally. But, the neocon/cosmo love-in never died down, because Jeff Flake is just so libertarian-y because he says mean stuff about orange man (and then votes to allow orange man to have warrantless wiretapping authority while Rand Paul tried to filibuster).
Good luck shrinking government while keeping the war machine turning. Makes total sense
I didn’t mean “populist” as a synonym for “Trump”, but the Rothbardian stance that libertarians’ natural allies are the sort of nationalist-populist little guy block that was awakened by Trump in 2016. A stance that I am convinced he took just to thumb his nose at Randian snobbery.
Wouldn’t be surprised. I also get the impression that his anti-war ideology was heavily influenced by the slights he got from the likes of William F. Buckley and other Cold-Warriors during the 1950s. He did seem to blame the inability in part of the Republicans to repeal the New Deal due to their support for the Cold War.
Agreed.
Plus Rothbard was jealous he couldn’t take pics like this: http://theivyleaguelook.blogspot.com/2012/08/wm-f-buckley-jr-1967.html
in Reason Amash said that libertarianism is moderate which makes me question his alleged smarts.
He really said that!? Wow.
Maybe he was referring to the type of libertarianism on display at Reason.

Anyone on his mailing list? Ten bucks says he is fund raising right now.
He only cares about one funder or rather a pair of funders. Save your money, Amash doesn’t need it. He’s going to get a nice pat on the head
Glad to see you. I thought you had left for good.

https://twitchy.com/brettt-3136/2019/05/18/would-the-jefferson-memorial-get-to-stay-pete-buttigieg-wants-buildings-events-renamed/
Buttgieg wants to purge Jefferson. Dammit who woulda thunk the anti-Confederate flag purge would stop there?
Also I suppose it is about time the Democrats officially renounce Jefferson and Jackson. These days they seen far more enamored with Alexander Hamilton.
Also I do find it interesting that Trump’s protectionism is beyond the pale but Hamilton, Lincoln and Grant’s protectionism is okay, even among libertarians.
Ok. I’ll go ahead and say it. This is the kind of shit that gets a lot of people here pissed at you. Me, I’m usually not. But that statement is deliberate antagonization, knowing full well why this site exists, that there is no monolithic libertarian. I always assume you mean well, but c’mon man. At least make it snark and not just these same bland marginalizations.
Fine then I’ll be specific: Cosmotarians do have a tendency to gush over Lincoln and Grant and loathe Trump’s economics. Those that complain about Lincoln and Grant have a tendency to get tarred as Neoconfederate racists while also complaining about Trump’s economics. Mises hasn’t been writing good things about tariffs lately.
I don’t think you’ll find many Cosmos here.
Speak for yourself Mr Cooper, if that is your name.
*sips martini with pinky out
*reaches down and tucks pinky back in shorts
Indeed. Even mentioning Cosmos is laughable. Yes, they may have that tendency WTF does it have to do with anyone on this site!?
A month or two ago I applied to renew my NEXUS card and had to list all the countries I visited in the last five years. I got 27. I always found it hilarious to be grouped with yokeltarians.
Ding ding ding.
FDR rounded up Americans entirely on the basis of ethnicity. When are we going to purge his name and likeness from our hallowed halls of government?
First of all that would require renaming the Green New Deal.
That just gave me a boner.
Wow. We share a fetish.
Just as a note: Anyone I see linking pro or con Soph links, I just can’t even. It’s a fucking kid. Don’t use kids for politics. Whether what the kid says support your point or PWNS your enemies or WRECKS you. No. Just no. It’s political pedophilia. Just, no.
Yep
^THIS^
+1
I have completely avoided all of that. I mean, if I knew her personally or something, it might be different. But otherwise… gross.
I’m pro letting her speak.
^^^^^
That is the only reason I bothered to look her up.
Amen.
Yeah, let her talk but I ain’t gonna listen. The adults demonizing her, including the douchebag that wrote the hitpiece, are disturbing though.
Let her speak, but you don’t need to link her like a prophet, which you have done, as well as many other adults, to bring attention to her to make a political football. Fuck that shit. She should be allowed to speak, but, but the way her videos were being shared weren’t about her speech, it was about people validating either there own ideas or the ideas of people they hate by projecting them onto a video this kid made. She has been used and abused, and both sides are responsible. I find it disgusting (I know I’m not usually serious, but now I am).
I never even heard of her until a few weeks ago and wouldn’t have even watched it had I seen it. The bullies are the ones squelching her speech while elevating those who have right think. I haven’t defended a single thing she has said. I haven’t disagreed with a single thing she has said. Defending her right to speak is disgusting. I absolutely disagree.
You were the first one here to link to the video that got her banned, before she was banned. I clicked and watched a bit and saw it was a stupid kid, then stopped. I defend her right to speak, but I don’t defend the way people have been using that speech. She shouldn’t have been banned, she should have been ignored, because it was shit video. But people seeing a kid espousing their beliefs makes them go fucking insane, so the video blew up in a fucking stupid way. I am for her speech, but I think every adult that shared the video (to agree or disagree) is using a child in an even more disgusting way than a OMWC.
Come on man, linking to a video that got someone banned isn’t an endorsement of their views. I don’t agree with using kids to make political points either but you’re offbase here.
I linked it precisely because the attacks on her were heating up and the way it played out proves that I was right. She did end up deplatformed. She ended up getting slimed by the mainstream. I’m not responsible for how others used her to promote their agenda. I’m responsible for defending a kid against being attacked. Again, did I defend or attack her positions? No. I defended her right to speak. Perhaps you haven’t followed this story as closely as you think. They were coming for her and did in fact brand her as a racist! bigot! extremist!.
The first time you linked it was before I ever heard of any controversy. Perhaps the controversy is why you linked it, perhaps that’s why the guy before you linked it and so on. But by the time it got to you there was no controversy yet, but you linked it, and said nothing about a brewing controversy, just that you thought it was funny. I ignored it as it was not funny to me and let it slide, then a couple weeks later there was controversy. Was there controversy then because of the video? Or was there controversy because grown people were sharing the video thinking it was funny? Or was there controversy because grown people were sharing the video thinking there would be controversy and then because they shared it there was controversy?
If it’s what you claim, that you shared it because you thought it would cause controversy, then you are no better than the people that reacted in controversy, because you were only sharing it to cause controversy.
I linked it on Glibs and not on Twitter FFS. Where people who aren’t going to freak out. Anybody here link to a Hogg video or any of the other kids that push lgbt stuff? Oh, yeah. That happens all the damn time here. I’m responsible for the media tarring and feathering a kid because I linked her video on Glibs? That’s just silly.
The complete opposite of everything I’ve said.
Just an FYI. By the time I linked that video she already had 800k subscribers. C’mon, she’d already been thrust fully into the conversation by the time my single link on Glibs.

“Let her speak, but you don’t need to link her like a prophet”
What is the proper protocol for linking to a prophet?
I think you have to put (PBUH) after the link.
I like PBUH because it could be male or female, but I dislike it because it leaves out prophets who choose other pronouns.
PBUX?
I AM THAT I AM
LOL
Ok…the jux of Rhy’s Medusa avatar, with ‘LOL’ right next to it? Absolute beauty.
I have no read clue about this girl being mentioned, or whatever drama is occurring. I presume that a link with comment of something along the lines of, “Looks like she’s being raised properly” would be benign enough. I mean, I get that a media platform is probably not the ideal situation vis-a-vis political talk from teens, but, I would think it’s judged by degrees.
Tl;dr. Nuance
There’s a reason I like you Digby.
Awww…Neph! You cray-cray. I guess I should make more weekend appearances.
Really, I’m pretty ignorant of this and other things. I come here for actual info and perspective.
And the luv. Tee hee.
I’m pro people getting to link whatever they want. And I’d hope if someone had a problem with it, they’d have an adult conversation about it instead of flying off the handle and going on a rant or three.
The very site we’re posting on has linked to her videos.
https://glibertarians.com/2019/05/thursday-morning-links-91/#
That link doesn’t work, and there is no 91 on that page.
Thursday morning linx last week. Banjos.
Oh, I posted her videos long before that.
That makes you Typhoid Mary.
Nah, no one got sick.
Amen. Isn’t that one of the main reasons this site was started!?
Shit. My reply was to Mike S’s comment above.
Sure. But banning her videos and trying to deplatform her on false pretenses is bullshit, and needs to be called out.
I don’t see why a person shouldn’t be allowed to express their opinion based on their age. Calling it “pedophilia” is just ridiculous.

Any Glibs into genealogy? It’s always fun to find out something shocking. Yesterday I discovered that great grandpa ran for Borough Tax Collector (lost to the Republican by only 12 votes) and was a union organizer for the cigar makers. Worse of all, he was a cultural appropriator: he named his restaurant “The Oriental” (he was a typical Pennsylvania Dutchman) because of the supposed Oriental fondness for hospitality and courtesy to visitors. Nothing on the menu was Asian cuisine. Thankfully, another great grandpa, also Dutch, was a saloon keeper. Any black sheep in your family trees?
My family mysteriously left Germany in 1945, no records before that. (JOKE)
We have a document from the mid-1800’s of one of our ancestors in which they granted freedom to a family slave.
One of my wife’s ancestors bequeathed his slaves to a business partner in his will.
AFAIK, all of ’em by our standards?
I recently came into the possession of hundreds of photos from my family history going back to tin types. My nephew had been asking about family history so yeah, I am going down that rabbit hole. I may submit an article soon.
I’ve toyed with genealogy a few times. I’d be very interested in anyone who wanted to expound on the subject. Be it methods and strategies, or just what they turned up and how far back they’ve been able to go.
My paternal Great Grandfather murdered my Great Grandmother for stepping out on him. My Grandfather was a dual citizen and joined the U.S. Cavalry in the 20’s. He stole a shit-load of 1911’s and deserted but he didn’t get far.
Thats hardly murder though, right?
Also, you sure he’s your great grandpa then?
A cousin of mine discovered that one of our ancestors had been part of the Spanish Armada. This guy survived the wreck of his ship, washed up on the coast of Scotland and married into one of the local families.
That is cool. Another ancestor, in Germany, was part of Napoleon’s invasion of Russia. One of the few to survive the retreat.
It’s interesting how thin are some of the threads which led to our existence.
I know almost nothing about my family. My father’s side is completely absent since I never saw him after the age of three after my mom got us out of
Twin FallsBoise Idaho. On my mom’s side I met some scattered Southern Tier and Pennsylvania folk but recall almost nothing of them. I have a mild interest in learning more but not sure if I want to pay for the privilege. It was the first time she felt blue

Switzerland to vote on sweeping gun control measures:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/05/17/gun-control-vote-switzerland-may-19-could-take-away-swiss-weapons/1186889001/
There’s just nowhere to escape this foolishness is there?
What on earth made you think there was an escape?
I guess I’m an optimist.
Cut off your collective noses to spite your faces. Totally sensible, Swisstards.
Gee, who ever saw that coming after giving up their sovereignty?
I thought Switzerland wasn’t in the EU.
Apparently they’re part of Schengen which allows free travel and oh yeah compels them to submit to any and all stupidity the rest of the continent’s bureaucrats dream up.
It isn’t.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area
So much for the glories of free trade.
I consider myself an uneducated rube but a well traveled one. Liechtenstein? That’s a real place? Who knew,
Looking at a map it appears to be the taint between Austria, Switzerland which are the nuts of Germany.
There’s a lot of guns in Switzerland, and a major issue with Muslim immigrants who have no problem with violence. I will be surprised if this actually passes.
Switzerland has a Muslim immigration problem too? Fucking hell…
I read somewhere that it’s polling well. It boggles the mind that they’re willing to toss away what’s left of their independence just to avoid the crushing inconvenience of maybe having to get a visa to move around Europe*, but there it is.
*which is an interesting question in itself. When I lived in Germany, you did not need a visa to travel to (say) Denmark. Well, I did because American. It’s almost like countries can make their own mutual arrangements without requiring a titanic undemocratic bureaucracy sitting on top of it all.
Sign away fundamental rights for privileges that can be dropped at a whim…sounds like a plan .
Hey, we do it all the time!
At least Switzerland has lots of lakes, making those incidents where “boat tipped over and your guns were lost” credible.

Damn GOP extremists.
I . . . what?
He’s right in the fact that Trump basically remade the GOP in his own image with little opposition (not that I would classify that as “going right”) but to the vocal dismay of Progressives everywhere, the Baby Boomer centrists, like Pelosi and Schumer, still call the shots in the Democratic Party.
He’s right in the fact that Trump basically remade the GOP in his own image with little opposition (not that I would classify that as “going right”)
Yes, it’s the claim that the GOP has moved further right than the Democrats have moved left that bothers me. Socialism used to be a dirty word even to the Democratic Party. And I think Pelosi and Schumer have not put up much opposition to the leftists in their own party (at least vocally; not sure about the parliamentary maneuvering they may be up to limit the influence of the AOCs and Sanders), unlike the Romneys, McCains, and Flakes in the GOP vis a vis Trump.
You call them centrists? God, am I out in the wilderness. I can’t even see that place from here.
Not long ago someone asked me “You are a conservative, aren’t you?” to which I answered ” I would have to move way over to the left to be considered a conservative”. I don’t think they understood what I meant.
I don’t, but the Omar/Tlaib/Ocasio-Cortez crowd does.

I started day drinking at ten in the morning and ended up texting a couple exes asking why it didn’t work out.
Turns out my exes are a lot more mature than I. They don’t day drink at ten in the morning.
Bah, they’re probably blowing guys in a gas station bathroom at 3 AM instead, which you’d probably never do.
Commode is a sensible guy. He’s usually home by midnight, so no, not at 3AM.
Well, when you start drinking at 10 AM, that definitely gets easier to do.
Even on a Saturday?
Then I’d say you dodged a couple bullets, my man.
I started day drinking at ten in the morning
Why so late?
No shit. I am up by 4 am every morning. 10am is my afternoon.
Yeah, but you’re weird.
You and dad and my hangover could get together for coffee at five in the morning.
Ugh I was still half drunk when I woke up at 10am today. I really didn’t need that third Manhattan, or the Negroni that came after it.
https://youtu.be/tOCCvN8YDuc
LOL and I didn’t even press play
It’s funny, as I’ve gotten older, I find myself being a much more moderate drinker. This hasn’t been by design. A big part of it is I rarely drink during the week. Weekends tend to be no more than three pints per night.
I guess I take a bit more time to enjoy the flavor of a good craft beer, or scotch.
I occasionally listen to the Barbell Logic podcast, and their pre-podcast talk of whiskey has got be tipping my toes into some bourbon.
It’s easy to pace oneself when you’re drinking good whiskey.
Granted, there’s about half a dozen times a year where I’ll drink more, say four to six drinks. Even there, those are spread out over 3 – 5 hours.
This is apropos of nothing, of course.
Lightweight! j/k

It’s time for Brit karaoke with Kate Nash and Lily Allen.
Fun fact: in addition to being a Europhilic, pro-immigration twerp, Lily Allen is sister to Alfie Allen, AKA Theon Greyjoy, AKA Reek.
Scary.
She reminds me of a fitter, firmer ex.
I’m not proud of my exes.
Yet you can’t resist drunk-dialing them. I love you, Son.
Also fun fact: Lily Allen, famously pro-immigration, refuses to house a single Asian immigrant in any of her estates. She’s literally worse than Hitler, literally. She’s Hitler with tits and a great voice.
I have a thing for Lily as well.
She is, all her faults, goshdarn delightful.
I’m partial to this one https://youtu.be/q-wGMlSuX_c
She’s the closest I come to faggy celeb worship.
I’m a huge fan of Camera Obscura, for example. I love their whole catalogue. But I don’t lust over Traceyanne the way I do Lily Allen.
The top of that white outfit she’s wearing makes me feel funny. Like, when we used to climb the rope in gym class

Have you not watched the Tao of Steve or High Fidelity?
Both all-time favorites of mine. You have good taste Neph!
Yes, he does Two great films.
Fellow sarcasta-bot confirmed. Proceed with the snark.
Oh honey, no. Don’t do that.
I just wanted a little
closureshit stirring.I did actually want to know why one cut me off. She moved across the continent and then afaik went to Europe. I just wanted to know why she quit texting back.
The other one wants to meet in person to tell me why we didn’t make it.

Don’t do it
Alright, back to playing AC: Odyssey.
Once UCS puts on his writing gloves he’ll give you a complete review, no need to play.
Anyone else read that Alexandria Odyssey Cortez
I bet $10 on a bob-tailed nag and it got me $72! Woot!
What is that after tax?
Heh-heh. Yes, taxes. I, um, well…we will figure that out later! But I certainly will claim those winnings!
Correct answer, citizen.
I mean… congrats dude!
I was channel surfing and got a nice blast from the past.
Was expecting more Brendan Frazier.
Fucking A. Good band.
Does anyone here like Jason Isbell?

That was nice! Someone linked this earlier https://youtu.be/6i0a7RDPkM8 I didn’t realize that Brad Paisley had those chops.
I haven’t listened to this, but I believe the title makes the point: https://liberty.me/audio-video/the-lava-flow-tulsi-gabbard-is-a-socialist/
Lava made Tulsi Gabbard a socialist? The soap, or the mag-ma?
When my lava flows I’d bow down to Marx himself just to make it stop. *old drunk guy problems*

So on TCM I saw an old Nelson Eddy movie from 1939 in which he battles a corrupt railroad baron played by Edward Arnold who’s lackey judge is played by Guy Kibbee. Gee what other movie from 1939 has a similar setup?
Among other things Arnold wants to import a bunch of immigrant voters to vote for Kibbee who will then do his bidding. (Hmm….) How does Eddy defeat this? Using the power of the press (Ben Hecht was the screenwriter after all) and teaching them the glories of AMURICA and human rights to convince the immigrants to vote against Arnold. Interesting time capsule of a very nationalistic, pro-immigrant, anti-corporate, pro-small town stance that also attacks the notion of “progress” being great since Arnold’s character justifies his actions in the name of progress.
Also interesting that Eddy’s character is a Harvard lawyer who speaks of human rights and how in America you can do, say and think whatever you want.
Also interesting that he foils Arnold’s plot to flood the town with immigrant railroad workers to vote for a judge who will do his bidding is defeated thanks to…Education. A lot of “open-borders” views in the past was heavily predicated on the power of public schools to indoctrinate immigrants to be proper Americans and that the Elites would never allow the ignorant riff-raff to have too much power.
“Oh the irony! You wanted censorship… Well, you got it! And now you can’t even talk about the subject even if you oppose it. I hope this teaches you that censorship isn’t the answer. It always comes back to bite you in the ass.”

“”b-b-but why am I being censored? I’m a good guy, censorship is only supposed to happen to bad people”
Ahhhhh I love it when naive authoritarians are shocked when they get shafted by the system they advocated for.”

We call that 天罰 (tenbatsu) or “ punishment from heaven”. Never ends.
Question; is ‘bachi’ used or is it a bastardization that would be unrecognizable? Spouse’s family uses that (as in, “got your bachi”), but they’re all second or later gen Americans.
As in “I got your back”? Never heard of it and my daughter just said, “What is ‘batchi?”.
as in ‘karma.’ You do something mean, and then a baseball whacks you – you got your bachi. It just occurred to me when I saw Tenbatsu that’s probably where it comes from.
Oh, I think that they are using “batchi” as in a cute way of saying “batsu”. Could be a regional thing. As you said, it’s the same as how we use “karma” colloquially. I’ve heard people use “ba’chi” as onomatopoeia for the sound when you get hit with something. Unusal, but happens.
yeah, between immigrants losing their fluency and how the older families picked up slang from other languages in the old days of the cane fields, I wasn’t sure it was Japanese at all! But that makes sense.
Dammit. I should’ve googled it first. “Batchi” just means “punishment”. *Bows deeply to your in laws*

I think it is because you’re not allowed to say ‘tommy robinson’.
And he will nothing from this.
19?
And then I read the re’s……I am not observant.
I’m usually very good at pattern recognition but I am pretty shit-faced right now…
I’ve been shit faced since noon. Not sure what I am now.
Happy.
Que?
Exactly!
Western Tricknology.
Answer: “How many people it takes to get you mired in Afghanistan.”
So, what is this—some sorta gay-out?
You, me, Rhywun… the math checks out.
Is that query meant to be a statement or a challenge?
Knowing Carl, it’s both. He IS my spirit animal

BTW, while I like this ipad, I’m used to glibbing on pc, so this style kinda sucks.
That was meant to be a response to you but my comment rebelled and declared independence.
I gotcha.
Replying Brooks style because i am too lazy to scroll:
If you can order a mixed drink more complicated than “… and coke”, it is not a dive bar.
Never order a “mixed drink” from a dive bar. You want bottles, shots or pints that you can watch being poured. This is known.
I was in my late 20s the first time I ordered something more complicated than that and not named after Long Island. It was also the first time I used a credit card in a bar.
I’d wager that you were feeling quite the cock of the walk that evening.
Sadly, I didn’t feel any cocks that night.
^Came here to read this.
Yep. That was home run derby punkin. Rhywun did not disappoint.

My night is now complete.
What, you f’ing off, now?? After that gem?
Pffft. Sleep is for quitters.
I wish he said this somewhere other than Laura Ingram’s show.

Due to it being truth, or, due to her?
Her. I’m sure the doctor is right.
Above all else, do some harm.
Just watched this https://youtu.be/LC8GpHf_ZU4 . Now I feel the shame.
As though John Mayer isn’t bad enough. Someone covered him. And you watched. That is shameful.
But it’s my secret shame so it’s all good! *furtively closes laptop when he hears a noise in the hall*
Is ‘watching’ the most accurate term in this situation?
If Festus was whacking to a pretty girl there wouldn’t be a problem.
I wouldn’t call it a problem, either. Just wondering about grammar and our family-friendly rating.
I’m old. Pretty girls are like a field of flowers to me. Nice to look at because I don’t have to try to plow them.
:: sigh::
Yeah…..
That’s an original, by-the-by. Just thought it up!
Heh. “I don’t have to plow them.” That’s a great way to put it.
Maybe he should dip into his stash.

“I warsh myself with a rag on a stick!”
Disgusting, funny, and true.
Why not plead? Let the state pay for WW and come out leaner and meaner.
Did we avert a glibs civil war earlier? Seems a nerve was hit.
?
The teen girl pontificator drama upthread…
?
Oh, you mean Soph! Yeah, lines are drawn in the sand. I think she’s a pugnacious little shit but I like her.
I haven’t watched, other than mere seconds of her talking to infowar man. I have no reason to be interested in her, beyond the talk around here. That said, I’m pretty sure I get both sides of this…whatever.
I was just taken back by who said what. I hope were all little Fonzies now about it.
I just see the humour of it. Shutting her down is dead wrong and I don’t think that she’s being coached. Apparently her parents are dems that have been pulling their collective hair out about this for quite some time.
Just think what it must be like to raise a child like that. It’d be akin to the dog tut-tutting every time you went to the fridge for a fresh beer.
Oh, YT silencing her, or, whoever, is bullshit. I was referring to CPRM’s point vs. straff, et al.
I see both sides but I’m on the live and let live part of the overton window. She says “outrageous” stuff for money and does a damn fine job of it. Someone spit on her at school the other day. That’s why I side with her.
CPRM, for all of his talent comes off as a blue-nosed shrew in this debate.
Since I don’t know her stuff/situation, other than what’s been said here, I will tread lightly. C has signaled in the past that issues with the way kids are treated is a sore spot for him. And, even if she chose this, it seems he wants us to take the high road, as it were, in the matter.
I do tend to agree in the ‘don’t have kids in adult situations’ sense, and politics on a global platform would probably fit that. Because we all know teens make such good choices…
Anyway, I would urge some leniency towards C on the scolding. Yeah, it took me by surprise at first. But, he doesn’t really do that as a matter of behavior. And, he makes good points., and we’re all gonna do what we deem right in the first place.
Agreed. The one side came across as so judgey that it rankled. Put my hair up, if you will. We don’t need another PRMC is what I’m trying to say.
As if you couldn’t tell, I do get hair across my ass when it comes to the stifling of free speech. Say what you will and let the chips fall where they may.
I certainly didn’t expect this topic to generate such strong feelings. At least the thread helped pass the time while I waited for my pineapple deep-dish from the wood-fired oven at the dive bar.
Cut or un-cut? Put up yer dukes!
