Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas!Ā And what a glorious morning it is for everyone except for those affected by last nights tornadoes.
Some of the documents to be declassified are claimed to be a “game-changer”.Ā And merely “days away”
Twitter takes down a video that provided an English translation of an Al Jazeera video that implied Jews benefited from the Holocaust.Ā FYI, the other way to get taken down from Twitter is to mock middle-aged pussy hat-wearing cat ladies.
Michigan Man awarded 1.5 million after serving 45 years for a murder he did not commit.
Niki Lauda dead.Ā (hat tip Mad Scientist)
70% of Dems want to experience a starvation diet.
That’s all I got for today.Ā I’ll leave you with a song and move along my day.
Mornin’
My local school district is trying to sneak in a vote on their budget by putting the election day on a tuesday in may with the notice being a sign in a little visited part of town and a page on their little visited website.
I have to go vote no today.
Mornin’
I was not planning on voting today — until I got a text at 11:00 last night asking me for my vote.
I am now going to go vote against that asshole.
I hope I’m not falling victim to some 3D chess.
They just got away with that in my town last week, by scheduling a second vote the week after we voted down the new town & school budgets that had gone up by 6% (along with the promise of a 7% tax hike to cover it) so they can give more money to a load of slackers, and not telling anyone. I fucking hate these people.
āBut the plans were on displayā¦ā
āOn display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.ā
āThatās the display department.ā
āWith a flashlight.ā
āAh, well, the lights had probably gone.ā
āSo had the stairs.ā
āBut look, you found the notice, didnāt you?ā
āYes,ā said Arthur, āyes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying āBeware of the Leopard.ā
UCS, why do you hate the children?
The better question is why don’t you? Are you some kind of pedophile?
I always vote “no” as well. I love my own kids and I “bear each other’s burdens” with other people’s children. But I shouldn’t have to pay taxes for the government to raise all the kids. ugh, you made these kids, you take care of them.
Town by me looking to increase property taxes by a mere %40. No big deal.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsday.com/amp/long-island/education/school-budget-bus-transportation-1.29644219
mumbled under his breath, “and wallets”.
I like how even thoroughly MSM Newsday couldn’t resist mentioning several examples of egregious waste. Can you imagine how much money they’re really flushing down the toilet?!
We’re going to need a bigger toilet.
Schol budget votes in NY have been in May for *decades*.
And? You know it’s there to suppress turnout.
You might want to look up the definition of “suppress” – you sound like every TEAM BLUE member who screams “vote suppression!!!!!”
Okay, “Diminish”
Are you sure it’s not because it’s the end of the school year and playing on parent’s dread of having to deal with their kids again?
All school referendums are held in winter in MN, when the snowbirds are gone off to AZ and TX, the rest of the old people are housebound and the only ones willing to go out in a blizzard are those that want to get away from their kids plus charge the taxes to those who won’t be voting. If the referendum accidentally fails there is still time to get it reworded so no means yes.
In our town when there’s a vote for yet another tax to ‘help the schools/rebuild crumbling schools’ they include a clause that people over 65 will be excluded from the tax upon request. And given the over-65 group is usually the biggest demographic turning out, the school board hopes they’ll vote yes since they’re sticking the tab on the youngins. And yes, it has worked every time.
over-65 group
How can you allow the demographic with the most wealth to opt out?
I don’t understand senior discounts either
Lauda was a rough lookin’ 70.
He was like a cat. He was on life number 9.
I guess you could look rough for 70. Nobody ever tells a 90 years old, “Man, you look like shit.”
He earned it.
Under the circumstances, I think he looked damn good.
everyone knows he was horribly burned, I thought
sorry if I’m missing an obvious joke
>>Michigan Man awarded 1.5 million after serving 45 years for a murder he did not commit.
Who could have sent someone to jail with such an awesome ‘fro?
All i. Could think was that 1.5 mil seemed low. ~32k per year.
Ah, but you’re neglecting all that free rent, meals and healthcare provided to him!
Don’t forget all the free love he got when taking showers….
Still low.
Wait’ll he sees his tax bill.
More armed robbery.
Government tax workers are going to show him how to really rob someone…
Declassification is not coming. I won’t believe it till it has happened.
Gowdy, without getting into specifics, seemed to acknowledge he’s at least aware of those files — suggesting they contain exculpatory information with regard to Papadopoulos
“Hey, George. I’ll blow ya if you give these rubles to Donald.”
Yeah, I’m glad Gowdy is still around, he’s entertaining, but a fact changing people’s mind who love/hate Trump?
Also, Gowdy looks like a grown up version of Harry Potter’s kid rival.
Facts may not change the minds of people that don’t care what the facts are, but hopefully the law is still the law (and considering Hillary is still not wearing an orange jump suit there is an argument to be made it has not been for years), and if we want to preserve the republic people will be held accountable. Even if it is just the heads of the 3 letter agencies and no politician gets what they deserve, I hope it scares off others from allowing the level of criminality that was SOP for the Obama administration.
He looks like a rebel soldier.
Wait- Mad Scientist croaked Niki Lauda?
>>70% of Dems want to experience a starvation diet.
We can all get thin – together!
āSocialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.ā
experience a starvation diet
That makes it sound like is only for a trial period and can be ended easily and quickly. I don’t see many examples of socialist countries turning around on socialism quickly or easily.
The diet changes from “the starvation diet” to “the stray animal diet”. That’s how you know your Socialism has been enacted properly.
The trope about putting the DMV in charge of healthcare should have long-since scared everyone straight. If anyone is still “hot” for socialism, start watching Chernobyl on HBO
Not real socialism!
I watched the first episode and am definitely going to watch a few more. My dad was a nuclear engineer back in the 70s so I may wait for him to visit and get his take on it.
Meanwhile, that mincing pussy Will Power continues to infest motor racing.
His mom named him after weight-loss book?
Not cool enough to be named after this.
He’s no Dick Trickle!
“70% of Dems want to experience a starvation diet.”
Various soldiers, philosophers and political leaders spin like Dremels in their graves.
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) said Monday that he believes the declassification of key documents relating to the Russia probe is āright around the corner.ā
Well, get on with it.
Where have you gone, Corey Booker
Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you
Wu wu wu
What’s that you say, President Trump
Senator Spartacus has left and gone away
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Uffda, meant to add to that that Booker (or Gowdy or Meadows) should get their Spartacus on and read out those documents in public.
If they really are truly exculpatory and have no reason to be classified, get on with it.
Tard Tuesday: Projection Projection Projection
10, 000 lies huh.
“10,000 lies, many uncritically repeated”
Like how he says 10,000 lies it’s repeated uncritically.
Well if we are going to be the Roman Empire, we should get our slaving on.
We could start with Judea and Gaul to start with.
Progjection.
So…to continue on GoT from yesterday. Is Bran the most evil fucker in the history of television? He said he knew he would be crowned king, Maybe he could have done something to stop a holocaust, kept his cousin from killing his girlfriend (and shoot a note a bit earlier that she was actually his aunt). Maybe let his sister know what actually exists out west? Scout ahead with some warging to assist his family’s armies? No? Therefore, manipulative and evil.
And then the scene when they crown him, Sansa declares the north would be it’s own kingdom. None of the other lords stopped and said, “That’s an option?” I’m out.”
There is a back story in the books that would explain the rise of Bran, but the HBO writers did not see fit to include jack or shit about it in the series. Thus the incomprehensible ending.
I’ve read the books and even that bit doesn’t make sense. He gets his power from the Weirwood trees, but they’ve all been cut down south of the…North. Jon’s parentage ultimately meant dick, the prince who was promised never showed, and they took the best character from the book and turned him into a goofy pirate.
It’s in the auxiliary novels and references by GRRM. Specifically the Brynden Rivers character (the original Three-Eyed Crow). Haven’t read those books myself, just aware of it.
But yeah, GOT went out of their way to blow up every last bit of backstory they actually spent time on and introduce new plot and character concepts that had no basis in the show. Even I could have done better.
I am still feeling let down they didn’t expand on the whole cock merchant storyline.
So Bran is like Zach Morris?
Zach Morris is trash.
I think we’re supposed to assume that his spookiness is part of him omniscience. He knows the consequences of different actions and accept when some things are inevitable.
The ending was obviously rushed, not as bad as Rome which really made me mad.
You weren’t rooting for Odoacer to depose Romulus?
I don’t think he’s supposed to be Mua’dib-level omniscient. I think he can only see memories/events in real time and only if there’s an observer/weyrwood tree nearby.
Who knows what I’m supposed to think? Maybe fatso will start writing again and let us know.
I think Rome was rushed because it was being cancelled.
Sure – I heard it was expensive to film but that HBO later regretted the cancellation. They skipped a ton of great real story-lines in their rush. The Sicilian revolt, the Second Triumvirate, Mark Antony’s campaigns in the East…
Ah Rome – the reason I first signed up for Netflix (the DVD subscription days). Still a great series; wished for many more years of it.
I would have thought the very least Dorne would take that option (although the Dorne plot was fucked by the show)
I also am not sure why the Reach had no more population and why offering land to eunuch soldiers was seen as an idea.
Why is the night watch still a thing?
What government program has ever been disbanded?
Tyrion did say the Watch was needed so they could send their criminals and rapists somewhere. It’s basically Australia.
I don’t see it working like that. Who will feed them? The North?
Also will the wall be rebuilt? will the wildlings keep raiding south?
Shouldn’t take them too long — they rebuilt the Red Keep in a month.
The Wildlings going north again… why? Is it better up in the tundra now that the Night King is dead? I mean, probably. But it’s still frost blown tundra. Why not stay south of the wall? Isn’t that _why_ they raided south of the wall, because north sucks ass? And is Jon going with them to resettle north of the wall?
But itās still frost blown tundra.
Hey man, any kind of blown is welcome at this point in my life.
Frost blown >> Frost bitten
It’s just old Roman-style exile of people who might cause trouble. Or like the Crusades – a place to send bastards and extra sons to get killed or carve out their own territories.
I think they were referring to the Martels directly moreso than the entire population of the reach. Basically he was offering Grey Worm Highgarden which was available as there were no more Martels
As a practical matter the most depopulated areas in Westeros at that point should be The North, The Riverlands, and The Westerlands.
The North and the Riverlands because of the wars fought on the territory, the Westerlands becuase the decade of constant warfare would have bled the Lannister population dry
‘…51%, say embracing it would be bad for the country,”
This is frightening and depressing at the same time.
And the firewall that is standing between the slaughter?
“āI do reject socialism as an economic system. If people have that view, thatās their view. That is not the view of the Democratic Party,ā House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said last month.”
Nancy has got to be the most inane, unwise and cynical speaker in the history of the world. She flirted with this mess and let the wolves into the hen house. Good luck putting these retards back into the bottle. Reminds me of when they let the inmates out of Arkham.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZzikkFm-6M
Nancy is a powerhungry harpy. She will say and do whatever it takes to keep her lofty place in society and keep the unwashed masses in their place.
Yep. Hopefully these twits just like the word “socialism”, and will balk at its actual practice. If not, this country is going to experience some serious “bad luck” in the not so distant future.
Tard Tuesday: The Highest Form of Communication is Political Cartoons, This Is Known
The abortion debate summed up by retards.
Sincerely held belief that fetuses are people thus implying abortion is murder = Women will be forcibly impregnated against their will and then forced to carry the rape-baby to term.
Gee, I wonder why it’s impossible to have civil debate anymore?
Christ, even their cartoons are a textpocalypse.
And devoid of anything resembling “humor”.
I’m sure the people who find Trevor Noah and Bill Maher funny chuckle at Tom Tomorrow.
the people who find Trevor Noah and Bill Maher funny
I can’t imagine who would laugh at

I have a call on the line from Kansas. they say their cornfields have too many birds and they need their strawmen back
This says it all!
It really doesn’t. The left can’t meme.
If by “all” they mean every disconnected thought in the writer’s head, then they’re not wrong.
“It’s funny because it’s true.” But in this case, it’s neither.
Hiya Banjos!
Nice song. She has a smoky, soulful voice and was only like 19 when that album dropped. Impressive!
A quick image search shows the Fiona isn’t aging well. She looks to be a rough 41.
Per wikipedia:
Oh…
She eats her own kind!
I love Fionna Apple.
And heās only able to do it because billionaires like Rupert Murdoch, with Fox News, and the billionaires Republicans depend on to fund their re-elections are providing him with cover.
Steve Bullock, is that you?
Did you know? If you hold a hundred dollar bill to your ear, you can hear Ben Franklin whispering, “Vote Republican.”

You’ll have to murder a Russian Mafia boss to get a piece of that.
I can do that as long as no one tries to murder me afterwards. I take the girl to Romania and we leave it at that.
Something about her doesn’t scream “waiting to settle down with a nice guy”, but good luck.

I’d run too.

I myself once dabbled in pacifism….not in Nam, of course.

70% of Dems want to experience a starvation diet.
We have to do something to curb the US obesity epidemic.
Not having food sure will solve any obesity problems we have today….
I’m fine with 70% of Dems going on the Maduro diet.
This politician will be the one that causes Sugar Free and HM to duel at dawn.
A much better pic (NSFW) of the damsel who our two Prince Charmings will be fighting over.
I mean furries are a significant demographic these days
Are furries a larger or smaller group than transfolx?
Not really… there may be an intersection between the groups though.
Always with the intersectionality.
I’m not sure, but I do know that transfox (a subset of both groups) are a very tiny group.
Germans….
WTF makes someone get to the point that they think “The way to get this fixed is to show off my birthday suit”?
I refuse to fight. My concession song:

“I’m a lover, not a fighter.”
On the 70% thing to be fair I am not sure they understand what socialism is and it is partially because the US right calls a lot of things they don’t like socialism…
^This. But it’s still scary.
And remember that socialists also lie. They lure people in with things that sound like good policies – equity, fairness, etc, but are which just deceptive window-dressing for confiscation, redistribution, and the gulag.
Yes. This is why I am enraged by the morons with “it was not real socialism cause it was not what socialists promised”. What they promise is irrelevant
What they promise is irrelevant
Yup.
This sounds like the scenario where someone lures a kid to the white van with promise of candy then presents them with a short stubby dick. It ain’t cool.
“Socialism” is like Norway or something, right? They seem nice.
They only like it because it has the word “social” in it. They probably all like sociopathy, too.
Do we have a count of Democrats applauding Trump for imposing tariffs on the Chinese?
Because I’m pretty sure that was a popular policy proposal a few years ago.
*Of course, that was before the Democrats decided to banish white working people.
Fuck I’m tired of all these GoT references. Can you stop it with this chatter about the Orange King and his army of the White Workers?
Wait, WTF does that make the “resisters”?
Fits perfectly. The Resistance is comprised of people who believe that some people are born to rule and the rest of the people are there to be sword fodder. They are fighting to preserve an aristocracy.
The Unsullied would be the male feminists. The Free Folk are the Reason-oid Libertarians. They go along with the aristocrats so that they get invited to all the right mead parties.
Man you just made this interesting. Wish HBO signed you up to write the plot for that show…
The #2 Democrat in the polls supports tariffs on his website, but gets a pass by saying “not the way Trump implemented them”.
I strongly support imposing stiff penalties on countries like China, Russia, South Korea and Vietnam to prevent them from illegally dumping steel and aluminum into the U.S. and throughout the world.
Trump and TheBern are quite alike in their trade protectionism.
Moobs Schumer threw Trump some support for his China stance on twitter, I’m told.
SO a day late as usual but the GoT episode was crap. Last episode I ever watch…
I’ll wait for the “Ros’ Greatest Hits” compilation
Adam Shit get his logic ass-backwards.
āIf we conclude that there is no other way to do our jobs, no other way to do the oversight, no other way to show the American people what this president has done ā his unethical and illegal acts as outlined in the Mueller report ā then we may get [impeachment] ā¦ It provides an additional tool.ā
Schiff did not specify what illegal acts were revealed in special counsel Robert Muellerās report. Muellerās findings showed no evidence to prove the Russian collusion conspiracy theory that insisted the Trump campaign was working with the Russians before the 2016 election.
The congressman explained the Democratic strategy in the House as āgradually escalatingā the pressure on the president by first asking for āvoluntary cooperationā and then subpoenas, which Schiff says ineffective. āWe followed with contempt; we may even follow with inherent contempt and we have to follow with impeachment.ā
PROVE YOU ARE INNOCENT OF THE BROAD AND UNDEFINED CHARGES WE HAVE ACCUSED YOU OF!
I don’t get the outrage. I think that $6K in Candian beaver money is about right for a night in a hotel in swanky WIllmar, Minnesoda.
But this whiny Canuck doesn’t think so and is now going to punish Expedia for trying to fleece him. So much for Canadians being honorable people who live up to their end of the bargain. Nice country you got there Rufus.
$6K in Candian beaver money
Ah, you’re a fan of Montreal strip clubs too?
[hockey applause]
Naw, strip clubs are too vanilla for me. I do like some of the kinky sex clubs though.
There is one in Montreal that specializes in golden showers. Is that more my style? Wee Wee Monsieur!
…that would be a great way of increasing beer sales.
Wait, wut?
Has the Libertarian Vanguard (aka reason.com) offered up their glowing admiration for Rep Amash and his brave call for sensible Trump control, yet?
They’ve offered up some light endorsement, but ENB and Shikha haven’t weighed in yet so give it time.
Objections to stop and frisk end when it comes to presidents.
I believe he was referred to as a “principled”. I still don’t know to what principle they were referring.

What Changed My Mind About Climate Change?
Risk management is not a binary choice.
blah blah risk management.
“I changed my mind about risk management rights.”
Dammit, “risk management” is supposed to be struck out. Guess it’s time for me to get one of those newfangled browser plug thingies you kids use.
Managing the risk to his paycheck
let me explain
No, please don’t….
Risk management is about cost comparisons.
Likelihood of an event X the cost of the event. Compared to the cost of controlling for the event.
This clown does neither.
by removing fossil fuels from the economy as quickly as possible. – and how to we hedge the freezing and starvation and economic collapse…
I’m pretty sure this brand new boat is sea-worthy, but let me just hedge by jumping overboard now and swimming for shore.
My image of them giving talks includes the use of stick people, sock puppets, flailing arms, dire grimaces and grabbing of the face and pearl clutching, broken pointers and elaborately incomprehensible charts, lab coats, swirling pics of David Suzuki, AOC, De Gayson Grosse (whatever his name his) and Nye the Cuck, catastrophic phonetic sounds, interpretive dancers, seances….you get the picture.
Something like this
Blah blah blah WaPo and NYT pay better for my opinion pieces.
This reads like an episode in Salon’s “I Used to Be a Libertarian” series.
I couldn’t make head or tails of what I skimmed but is he actually implying that we have to what doom-and-gloomers say because they “might be right”? That’s not idiotic at all….
We have to destroy the economy and create massive amounts of poverty because the raving lunatic on the street corner might be right.
Wow thatās a truly convincing cost benefit analysis.
CBS just now: “you know we’ve got flooding all the way from St Louis to New Orleans”
no, not in any meaningful way; it’s up, but they’re implying widespread ruination and death; some cotton might be late this year, that’s it
north of STL is where you have the problem most years
Places that have never experienced flooding before!
āThe big debate in climate science right now isnāt whether or not climate change is occurringāor whether human activity is the main cause. ā
I didnāt know assuming the conclusion was a risk management thing.
He’s correct in that they’re not debating it.
IOW, “I decided that the sky is falling”.
ctrl+f “discount rate” gave no results. That’s some good risk management you got there Lou.
I still think she is running for president again.
āWell, Ellen was part of a long line of American security experts and diplomats who understood that you had to keep talking and trying to work toward agreements that could limit the danger of nuclear weapons, their spread, their use and so she came to that after spending all those years on the Armed Services Committee. She was well aware of all the risk and she just drove into the New START Treaty negotiations,ā Clinton said on Monday.
āAnd as [General] Jim Jones said, [she] was one of the most responsible members of the American delegation to get that done. So, look, thereās a long tradition of trying to do that and thatās what we did with the Iran negotiations, put a lid on Iranās nuclear program ā that is what we should still be doing. You know, Winston Churchill famously said in his typical quotable fashion, jaw jaw jaw is always better than war war war,ā Clinton added.
So you’re saying we shouldn’t depose their leader destabilizing the region, and leading to vibrant slave-trade and general misery?
And how dare she quote that vile, racist, conservative PM.
She canāt though. Biden has been all but coronated.
Ask Bernie how that worked out for em…
You mean Hillary?
The only thing making the nomination process more hilarious would be to throw Hillary into the mix.
It would actually be the only thing that could save the non-establishment candidates.
She is going to jump in after the primaries have pared the field down and bloodied those left standing. She will be the adult who has been above all this petty squabbling and won that popular vote too. The rest of them have been so bad, she was forced–forced, I say–to step in.
I think this is what happens as well. People will get sick of biden’s schtick very quickly. She’s like michael myers I’m not going to believe she’s ever dead until the credits roll.
I hope the DNC at least lets him bumble through a few debates before crowning her.
“So, look, thereās a long tradition of trying to do that and thatās what we did with the Iran negotiations, put a lid on Iranās nuclear program ā that is what we should still be doing.”
There’s also a long tradition of being suckered by third-world despots.

Here comes the future
TAE, known until last year as Tri Alpha Energy, has raised $600 million, most recently at a valuation of more than $2 billion. Investors include the late Paul Allenās Vulcan Capital, the Rockefeller familyās Venrock, and Big Sky Capital, family money of billionaire stock trader Charles Schwab. Theyāre betting that TAE will be able to tame fusion into a source of electricity.
Fission, which powers several hundred nuclear plants, is the splitting of uranium atoms into medium-size atoms to release energy. Fusion, which makes the stars glow, goes the other way, combining small atoms into larger ones to release energy. Fission carries the risk of a meltdown and creates radioactive waste that has to be set aside for 10,000 years. Fusion promises to be meltdown-proof and waste-free.
Twenty years away?
I say 18

The look on his face still makes me chuckle.
Nice
The slide is at the engravers. Hopefully by next week, I will gave a fully armed and operational glibgun.
Not quite as cheap as I thought: it’s only $60 for the logo engraving, but another $60 is required in cerakote afterwards. I was tempted by the DeWalt yellow, but stayed with graphite black.
Very cool. I’m looking forward to some pics.
Yeah, if it looks good, I’m going to buy a couple or three stainless barrels for my M9 and let him go to town on them.
Cool! I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
Confessions of a Recovering White Supremacist
It seemed to me that my āwhite supremacismā comprised some of the following items and elements.
I am white.
I believed that Judeo-Hellenic-Christian civilization, for all its flaws and missteps, was on balance an undeniable boon for mankind, raising vast populations from abject poverty, tyrannical compulsion, and low horizons of expectation and achievement.
I was convinced that Western civilization engendered enormous advances in religious thought, art, philosophical speculation, science, medicine, technology and infrastructure, giving us the presumed blessings and inventions we all take for granted: longer life spans and increased leisure; readily available transportation; electricity; interior heating; viable buildings; a wide range of comestibles; sanitation facilities; clean water; revolutionary surgical techniques; communication devices; labor-saving implements and tools; great painting, sculpture, architecture, music and literature; and indeed, almost everything we touch, experience, eat and drink, look at, wear and enjoy, down to the tiniest domestic objects. The list of such supposed goods is endless and is with few exceptions associated with the energy and resourcefulness of white males of chiefly European descent.
I believed that a free-market economy was infinitely superior to a command economy and that the proof was everywhere to be seen by those who still had eyes to see. What this had to do with white supremacy was never entirely clear to me, but then, the principal economists of merit were chiefly Scottish and English and tended to be men — same for those who pioneered the Industrial Revolution of which we are all the ostensible beneficiaries.
However, I eventually came to understand that I was without question guilty of hatred and bigotry. True, I was brought up in a culture whose axioms I imbibed with my motherās milk — also white — but that is no excuse. I never thought to examine the issue independently, which makes me equally guilty of laziness and congenital myopia.
You know, that piece could appear in the Guardian and not be considered satire.
The whole thing could have been cribbed from that “toxic whiteness” training school districts are gushing over.
That gave me some damn fine chuckles, good find!
Fun Fact:
So Lake Harriet was named for the wife of Colonel Henry Leavenworth, Indian killer.
Say hello to Bde Unma!
“other lake”
I guess our culture isn’t the only one that gives natural features banal names.
But the mystery of exotic oriental names like “Shanghai”*!
*”on the sea”
Are the freaks trying to change that, too?
What about Lake of the Isles? What’s Lakota for ‘Oh shit, yeah, I always forget about that lake.’?
So the white man not only stole the lake, the ripped out half of the islands.
Say hello to Wita Tomna!
peat and silt . . . were used to create about 36 acres (150,000 m2) of parkland . . . the settling of these materials . . . led to an unstable shoreline
I hate state engineering registration, and I do’t know all the details of this mess, but it is funny when folk step into a bear trap of their own setting because they refuse to consult an expert. I support their right to be wrong and pour money down any crawdad hole of their choosing, but I do get a little tired of the broad-brush resentment of experts. Some folks do know what they’re doing and many don’t; paying the former would have saved the latter a ton of cash in this case.
Indian killer
I’m sure the natives were all completely peaceful with each other at all times and never committed any atrocities ever. As such everything should be named for them except that’s appropriation and *blue screen*
I changed my mind about that, however, because (among other things) I changed my mind about risk management.

The M Word in a committed relationship
Different strokes…
How did you come to that happy ending?

Yeah, but it still sounds like he’s getting the shaft in that relationship
Eh jack, you late.

These euphemisms…
Why do people have to talk about everything? just leave the mysteries of biology alone and leave it to the imagination. You don’t have to be open about everything. ‘I just want him to…’ Go fuck yourself.
These people are exhausting and insufferable.
Was thinking the same thing. Do you really need to have this discussion?
Especially since you know that the first time he catches him flogging it to some pr0n she finds problematic, she will be screeching. Then she will write an article all about him and his filthy dirty mind.
Reminds me of the Chappelle skit where the white guy gets asked who he voted for and goes into a rant about how that is real private stuff nobody should ever ask about before going back to telling his workmates about how he fucked his wife in the ass and then gave her a Cleveland steamer after.
My wife and I have had that convo because she has no sense of personal space. I basically told her that yes, I did, and that’s all the detail she was going to get, so back off. Then she asked me whether I watched porn, and implied that we should watch it together. I was basically like, maybe I do, maybe I don’t, but for me at least watching porn isn’t a group activity. Maybe I’m a prude, whatever, but I firmly believe that every successful relationship has boundaries.
She was trying to get you to be more adventurous man, and you failed her….
Hope she doesn’t want to chuck ya.
Worried the tentacles will turn her off? š
It’s a trap!
Uh, guns going off is not a normal result of cleaning guns.

Lakes shall henceforth be designated solely by their latitude and longitude. For tyhe sake of justice.
Latitude and longitude are a white, patriarchal construction, comrade.
+1 PoC geography
You say that as a joke. But, the entire Gall-Peters projection is pretty much premised on just that. Forget for a moment that navigation relies on those “white, patriarchal” notions. I swear to God, I think the proggies are hell-bent on dragging us back into the Dark Ages.
Kirsten Gillibrand takes a backseat to nobody when it comes to stupidity.
Wow, that’s an 11 on the dumb-o-meter.
She makes it look so easy..
She’s got a natural talent for it.
ESPN quietly admits that Social Justice killed their ratings.
Good. They can fire Michelle Beadle’s stupid ass while they’re at it.
My bet is that they will double down on the woke shit because their obligation is to correct them unwashed idiots and their bad beliefs.
Wow, a flicker of sanity. Sports are entertainment, i.e. a diversion from the parts of life that are stressful and suck. They’re also a good way for people to have some common ground. So some genius decided it’s a good idea to completely negate those two things.
Apparently sports channel producers are just as dumb as the commentators.
We The Internet on the subject.

“Wouldn’t it be amazing if, right before the puck drops, we hear a debate about trans rights?”

I lost 80 IQ points right there watching this shit even though I realized it was a parody…
I wish Pitaro all the luck in the word. The question is, is it too late? A sizable portion of the company’s staff are probably social justice cadres who aren’t going to be too keen on passing up the opportunity to lecture the deplorables. And given ESPN is a subsidiary of Disney and given Disney’s behavior in recent years, it’s far from clear to me that they won’t get support from above.
That website needs a few more autoplay videos, blinking ads, etc.
The horror that keeps HR pogues up at night.
Story is chockfull of HR experts saying that companies need to put a plan together right now. Not sure how hard it is to create a plan that says “No more drug testing.” and be done with it. But I have to admit I’m not a HR genius.
The head-scratcher for me is post-accident piss tests: it’s more important to assess an employee’s physiological history (what they smoked last night) than to simply assess the behavior/conduct/competence at work? Everyone makes mistakes, but I seldom need a piss test to decide whether to fire a forklift driver: he either handles materials and drives safely or not.
But without the test, that’s just like your opinion man.
Also, racist.
They just want something cut and dry to fire the person over. Failed the test, that’s the cause and you’re fired. Otherwise they would have to evaluate the situation and actions taken by people in an somewhat subjective way and then it’s off to the lawyers if someone gets canned.
Yup. And the chronic shitbird would file a lawsuit saying that it was totes unfair that he was fired when another employee (who had a long and exemplary history with the company) didn’t get fired for the same type of accident.
It is the same dynamic as zero tolerance policies in schools. The people running them just don’t want the fights about their decisions, so they create a stupid arbitrary rule and hide behind that.
Seconded.
It’s about the insurance coverage.
If you show up to work high and get hurt, the carrier is not going to cover you.
I only meant headscratcher in the sense of what has this world come to. I’ve been around for decades and don’t have much to learn about operations management, liability, or insurance; if anything, I deserve an honorary PhD in cynicism.
I’m also implying that I’m weary of working in plants where obviously half the folk aren’t competent: I could have prevented a ton of problems if I had simply had the latitude to fire people the instant I smelled a hint of dangerous incompetence. The other thing I’m weary of is the accounting assumption that the only thing we can value or pay for is direct production; I strongly take the other view, that cheap people are expensive; in my perfect world, adding value to a job to make it something worth having and helping people grow to be more valuable so we are happy to pay them more are both desirable.
Just like legalization plans can’t just be “strike all references to marijuana in the criminal code.”
This morning the VP sent out a general update, also mentioning that CBD oil is still illegal.
But I’ve noticed – as far as I know – that they aren’t drug testing office workers like they used to. Only the factory floor people; after accidents.
CBD oil is still illegal.
Huh? The fucking groceries are selling it now.
Federal Law!!!!eleven!!!!1!
As a cube-drone myself, that is as “take this job and shove it” a policy as it gets for me. I’ll put with insulting “sexual harassment” lectures, maybe even wink and nod along to racist “diversity” crap… but I will not piss in a cup for HR.
“I would like to state that this mysterious rash of test failures being reported in the HR system among HR staff is not a result of data tampering by IT. Perhaps HR should stop hiring druggies?”
But you’re getting paid to piss in the cup! It’s basically being a piss hooker.

The biggest lure of socialism has always been that everyone thinks they are going to be on the receiving end. They the “to each according to his need” part applies to them but think the “from each according to his ability” applies to someone else. Unfortunately the math never works out that way.
Kind of like my mom and dad, who are retired and live in a house twice the size of mine, but are life long Democrats because they’ve been taught that Democrats are on the side of the little guy fighting against the rich and think we need to raise taxes to pay for their social security cost of living increases.
It isn’t just money and things. The kids think that it means that they won’t have to start out at the bottom rung. They will all get a cushy job where they sit in an office (no cubes) and go to meetings that are filled with funny and sexy coworkers who all get along. Then they will go to a coffee shop or a bar and have exciting relationships.
They never think about the fact that someone has to do the shit work. Those coffee shops they fantasize about visiting still need waitresses and baristas.
AOC is exactly what they think socialism is. You go from being a bartender to being a Congresswoman and everyone listens to whatever pops out of your mouth. It is the modern equivalent of serfs dreaming that someday it would be revealed that they were really royalty that was stolen away at birth and now that they’ve been found, they get to go live in the big house. (the key word being “they”, not “everyone”).
Thatcher’s quip about the problem with Socialism being that eventually you run out of other people’s money is instructive. Socialists talk a lot about “the workers” and “the people” but what they’re selling is ease and luxury while someone you resent or don’t know handles the actual work.
The kids think that it means that they wonāt have to start out at the bottom rung.
We’re getting new employees who ask for a promotion and a raise after three months on the job.
I asked for (and got) a company leased car of my choosing at my 3 month mark.
I’m still at that job 20 years later.
At three months we’re just reacing the first probationary evaluation of a new hire. We haven’t even decided if we’re keeping them, they’re sure as hell not up for promotion.
My mom is a life long Democrat who posts a lot of pro-socialism stuff on her FB.
And she lives in a 4,000 square foot house on an acre of land. I was going to ask her when she is going to have some strangers move into the basement; as part of sharing with the poor.
They always think the reds will only go after the bad rich people, not themselves.
And by rich, they mean anyone who has anything more than anyone else.
They never see it that way. It’s those rich Amazon and oil company guys that need to be fleeced. Our parents may not be the 1%, but they are definitely the top 10%. Once that 1% money runs out, they’re next.
It’s always envy of those that have more (and they believe don’t deserve it as much as they do).
I’m definitely in the top quintile and I could probably retire right now and live as modestly as I do now, but I fully expect to get means-tested out of social security before I urn 65 and get a portion of my retirement savings confiscated on top of that. GenX gets fucked every time by the more numerous boomers and millennials.
I’d be retired, or working (very) part-time, right now if I thought I was going to get SocSec the rest of my life.
Instead, I’ve got probably three more years of full-time work.
My CommieMommie is so distracted by #Resist that she has completely forgotten her half century trek to comfort through extreme effort and living well below her means. Suddenly, everyone should simply be given what she worked so hard to achieve.
Really smart people can be really dumb in really new, interesting ways.
Unfortunately the math never works out that way.
That’s what needs to be driven home daily and loudly. The idiots being sold this bill of goods all think they’re going to do Sweden or Denmark on somebody else’s dime, by “soaking the rich”. But that math is untenable. The rich don’t have that kind of money. Even the Swedes and the Danes will tell you that. Their tax structures are flatter than ours. You don’t do a hyper-welfare state by soaking the rich. You do it by making everybody pay for it. I could almost tolerate these people if they could acknowledge that fact and accepted it as some sort of insurance scheme. But, these people are bent on deluding themselves.
exactly correct
Back to Chernobyl on HBO or Killing Eve for that matter, I’m always intrigued by how most Europeans live, what they drive, etc, and these shows take me back to the many places I’ve been in Europe. Even the most backward Americans, when offered a shot at living in a Russian apartment or driving a Spanish car, would opt out for our version of free market upward mobility; in fairness, I must confess that what those same Americans mean by “fuck that” is “I’ll just cook meth.”
I had not connected the dots on U.S. Attorney John Durham. He’s the guy who cleaned up the cesspool that was the Boston FBI after Mueller had played along with the crooks.
Raph, if you’re still around I sent your Patreon perk via the messenger there.
So what is the correct way to manage invasive species?
Billed as a compromise, the plan is nothing short of a surrender of the decades-long fight for fair treatment, humane management and preservation of our nationās wild free-roaming horse and burro herds.
How should the USG manage the horses on the land that they shouldn’t have in the first place?
I’m horse people, but I don’t care if they put a bounty on them. FWIW, I’ve written here before that it’s a mistake to fall in love with a girl’s parents and her horses before she falls in love with you; Lawyer1’s horses had been wild mustangs, but I did not find them unusually hard to handle or ride.
Publish tasty recipes.
How long does it take for an invasive species to become indigenous? Most species as they exist now were at one point invasive to that area. The world is not static.
When a balance is achieved? When predators emerge to keep the numbers under control or species develop natural resistance to pests.
“Lawyer1ās horses had been wild mustangs, but I did not find them unusually hard to handle or ride.”
Interesting euphemism.
kinda; dating her was like living in a Chanel commercial; hot skinny blonde but ultimately not worth it

Nuke them from orbit?
RIP Niki Lauda. I would recommend, even to those who arenāt auto racing fans, the movie Rush that covers the rivalry between him and James Hunt. For that matter, I also thought the documentary on Senna, that also has a number of scenes featuring Lauda was excellent.
Rush was good, but some of the crash zooms during the race scenes really annoyed me — like, the cars are already going really fast, it’s just overkill.
Also, Natalie Dormer.
If you are an F1 fan I would also recommend the latest Netflix series on the drivers/teams from last year.
On my list to watch. However Iāve read Lauda & Hunt actually got along personally.
By my counting it is 31 days, one month, to the Summer Solstice, the mid-point or start of summer depending upon your viewpoint.
Woke up this morning to six inches of snow and it’s still falling.
Global warming my ass.
Global Warming isn’t a thing anymore; it’s Global Climate Crisis!
Or Global Heating.

Climate Chaos!
With all the climate change stuff, I fond it funny this was included in a documentary on castles. (pay attention to that bit at the beginning and then watch for a couple minutes for it to pay off)
Six more inches, and you can play this.
We got about 3 inches here in Denver. Eighteen inches in the mountains, and up to a foot in some of the outer reaches near the metro area.

āThe first thing we do, letās kill all the
lawyersHR poguesāIt occurred to me (again) the other day, as I was reading something about “Whar muh productivity gone?” that the bloat of Human Resource Departments has been a gigantic diversion of resources into utterly an unproductive blind alley.
Eliminate email:
* no one writes a complete and useful assessment of anything anyways
* just wastes a ton of time and stirs up a tempest of useless opinions
* marshals redundant resources: everyone now thinks they’re solving the problem
* creates a great train of evidence of just how wrong, incompetent, and dangerous we are every day
You had me right there.
that’s hard for me to write
I love to write, to analyze, to educate, to help. But this thing of creating a national class of chirping clerks doesn’t work well.
The answer is for most people to stay in their boxes and just do their damned jobs. If you have a problem, ask your boss, and he’ll (sexist) decide if we want to spend a lot of money to fix something. The answer can’t be a herd of semi-literates with the thinnest grip on investment/reward ramping each other up until half the company has wasted half a day on something.
I’ve worked for a few globals. I’ve seen a hundred reply alls to a global distribution, over 10,000 employees, and then a dozen reply alls screeching at the other replay alls to not reply all.
and I’ve heard order numbers screamed across a room where the company had a perfectly good messenger platform
mistakes at 333MHz
Funny you mention the “Reply All” thing.
I sent out an email requesting documents, under attorney-client privilege. I specifically told people not to reply all, to reply only to m and two others in the legal department, in order to protect the privilege.
I was . . . unsurprised at what happened next. My response, I must say, was rather restrained: I don’t think I made anyone cry.
This is where “addressing people via the BCC field” is your friend.
I put together a presentation for the dept in which one of my primary recommendations is that if you’re expecting more than one response to an email, schedule a meeting and if youre not expecting discussion, cancel the meeting and send an email.
Nah. Email is a tool. Just because somebody tries to turn a bolt with a hammer doesn’t mean you eliminate hammers.
“eliminate” is just shorthand for “this is getting out of control”
it’s not an actual debate point or a hill I’d die on
this is getting out of control
*ponders the three dozen emails that showed up in my inbox overnight*
Completely agree.
Three dozen? Did the email system crash? Is your entire office on vacation? How did you get away with so few?
Well, the CEO and three VPs are out of the office, so that helps.
Although this morning’s house supervisor update was worthwhile, as it contained this gem:
“DOC” stands for Department of Corrections.
What do you mean? We’ve got the 7 Habits class, Diversity Theater, the Healing Racism workshop, and safety training (even though I don’t work the floor) with the two monthly required observations, and then with the weekly one-on-one meetings with the boss. Who has time for work?
Global warming my ass.

Wait you telling me a business venture centered on woke shit instead of sound economic practices ended up going belly up? Say it ain’t so!
Maybe today’s kids aren’t the hive-minded pussies I assume them to be?
I would have no objection if that resulted in some kind of criminal record. Serving adulterated food is, IMO, a species of assault.
My grown-up brain says “I agree” and the part of me that’s still a middle schooler chuckles and hopes these kids get away with it.
My middle school brain says these bastards should be force-fed their own crepes.
My adult brain is not as forgiving as I was in middle school.
Same
The kids just figured that the teachers had been feeding them shit for years?
Did they skip the sugar in there recipe to?
son of a —- “their”

At a minimum, one pissed and one jacked off.
Does it really matter how much they adulterated the food?
Make them eat it in front of the entire school. Maybe provide some homemade syrup.
OT: My mum is back at home after two long weeks of hospital stays. Medication has been juggled and changed. She’s going to get some more testing done for dementia but when I saw her yesterday she seemed back to her normal (as can be expected for my family) self. Just tired.
Medication has been juggled and changed.
It is appalling to see the bags of medications that people (especially old people) bring to the hospital. Its not unusual for us to have to detox them as inpatients for 2 – 3 days before we can even begin to really diagnose them. We often send people home who were on a dozen or more meds with only two or three. Its not unheard of for people to come in with pretty serious symptoms, which were caused entirely by the medico-pharma complex slamming them with pills and more pills.
I think one of the best things we could do for health care would be to recognize “overmedication syndrome” as a real health problem, and make detoxing and tuning up people meds a separate health treatment that insurance would pay for.
Sounds like a great next crises once the opioid one dies down, and reason to create a state run medication log to coordinate any drugs. Heck, throw in OTC ones as well. It’s for everyone’s benefit.
Aha! “The Terror in Your Medicine Cabinet: The Overmedication Epidemic!” A government war on Medication to follow.
While I certainly appreciate the cynicism, its possible for government to fuck anything up. I don’t think that’s a reason to do nothing about anything, ever.
Good to hear that. Dementia/Alzheimerās is a terrible thing. Hope the drug combos they have now can keep her stable. I watched it eat my grandmother who had it for ten years, the last five of which she couldnāt even speak.
Good news. I hope she continues to improve.
Find a good pharmacist who can evaluate the meds she’s on for interactions and side-effects.
Apply the usual caveats to any study that confirms your biases:
Should we throw the every-gun-shall-be-locked/up crowd a bone?
Know any who’d give the same consiteration?
I just want an honest debate, and maybe I smell something.
But I don’t want to do the research.
Should we throw the every-gun-shall-be-locked/up crowd a bone?
Well, I recall one mass shooter who broke into a locked gun cabinet to get his guns.
It happened two weeks ago at the Highlands Ranch, CO STEM School shooting. There were a whole bunch of inconvenient factors in that shooting.
That makes two, then. I was thinking of another one, where the shooter killed his grandmother, mother, somebody before going on his shooting spree.
I see no reason to pleasure them with my precious essence, no.
Hereās more unwelcome news from the Crime Research study for Bloomberg and his gun-grab cronies: āIronically, there is not one mass public shooting this century that would have been stopped by universal background checks, even with a perfectly enforced law.ā And thatās not all. None of the tragic school shooting events over nearly two decades could have been prevented by any of the gun control laws proposed or currently on the books, including magazine capacities or age restrictions.
Oh, so current common sense regulations aren’t effective? Then just have to move to out and out ban.
Oh yeah, that will be the response from the animists and hoplophobes. “If the current common sense regulations have completely failed, well, then we need more common sense regulations!”
Apparently, “common sense” doesn’t mean “effective” any more.
Gun control is about turning the ratchet ever more towards a complete ban. Any temporary pause along the way is on mere sufferance. If it doesn’t work, well, too bad. Another loophole to close.
This is a meaningless statistic.
As it is school shootings are so rare that the mean time between shootings at any given school is on the order of 20,000 years so the small number of schools which allow teachers to carry not having had any shootings over 20 years just doesn’t prove anything. You’d have to conduct the study over the course of maybe 100 years before you would get a high enough statistical likelyhood that one of those schools would have had a shooting to say whether the teachers being allowed to carry had any impact
Rahm Emanuel- sooper jenious
Ever since the disaster of the 2016 election, Democrats have engaged in (an often pointless) debate about whether President Trumpās supporters were drawn to him on account of economic or cultural grievances. Yes, Hillary Clinton drew more votes, but she was 1,000 times as qualified, and 10,000 times as personally appealing. She should have demolished himābut something drew many voters to Trump instead.
Some frontrunning Democrat should put this guy on the payroll. He’ll get those middle class know-nothings whipped into line.
Gee, that’s an awfully selective list of people. Of course, Loughlin and Huffman were post-election, so they didn’t affect anything in 2016. Rumsfeld and Fulds (whoever that is) weren’t on the radar in 2016, either. What prominent public personalities could possibly have been suspected of not playing by the same set of rules?
And just who exactly was in charge of Treasury and DOJ post-bailout? Its a mystery. Apparently, Rahm doesn’t know, because he never mentions them.
Obama is mentioned twice:
How exactly racism against Obama led to Hillary’s loss is a mystery, as well. You have to love the sidestep from “voters hate people who don’t play by the rules” to “Hillary lost because sexism”, though.
it’s Rahm. he knows their problem but now he’s just spinning to stay relevant. what’s he going to write? that the Chicago Machine is unaccountably corrupt? that the Clinton Foundation was a slush fund for their cronies and quid pro quo vehicle for foreign heads of state?
Sure, Jan.
Still trying to claim that anyone other than hardcore Donks finds Hillary Clinton “personally appealing”? Keep fuckin’ that chicken, Rahm.
Meh, shorter Rahm:
“Hey, I’m done as mayor of Chicago and need a new job.”
How could she be 1,000 times more qualified? only qualifications are age and natural-born citizenship.
She’s not 1,000x older than Trump?
That’s eligibility. Qualifications are something else.
I, for example, am eligible to be President, and am also nearly completely unqualified.
