Mythical Libertarian Woman is taking a much need rest to recover from re-capping the episodes.
She does want you to know that Season One of Woke Charmed is now available on Netflix for those brave enough to watch along.
https://www.netflix.com/title/81013657
Also, that this actress, playing a college student, is 35.
But she identifies as 24.
But, but, where will I get my fill of snarky recap?
OMG. Those lips!
She should put a bag of frozen peas on that before it leaves a mark
Do you fly a lot between New South Wales and Queensland (JetGo’s Route 43)?
She needs an injection in the lower one to balance them out.
It’s hard to tell her true age with the awesome RBF
She looks like a bluegill
I was thinking more along the lines of carp.
Ah well, I guess I’ll do an alcohol review.
The Lakefront New Grist “Pilsner” and New Grist “Gose” were the two “Beers” I tried whose names I can remember. I also tried a third, but it’s name eludes me.
I put scare quotes around the names because these products are not actually beers. They contain no malt, or barley of any kind. They were invented for the sake of a relative of one of the founders who has honest to goodness celiac’s disease and isn’t a trendy gluten free personage.
My review – The non-Gose style beverage had so little flavor that I was wondering why even bother. It gets a “Drinkable but don’t bother.”
The New Grist “Gose” was a lime-flavored beverage which did a good job of impersonating the only other Gose I’ve had, only with lime instead of lingonberry. It gets a “drinkable”.
I’m reviewing some Sapphire with a splash of extra-dry vermouth right now. Jury’s still out; may need more.
Bombay Sapphire?
Ayup. It has a nice flavor which for gin, is rare
Huh. I like lots of gin. Hendricks, Monkey 47 and botanist come to mind.
I have tried Hendricks and the flavor was good but it had a scent/residue that was kind of overpowering. I’ll check out the other ones.
That stuff gave me sticker shock so I went with my stand-by Gordons. I only use it for cocktails anyways.
I tend to drink spirits neat or on the rocks. I will allow tonic, but not in monkey 47
Citadelle is my go-to gin these days.
Evan Williams and Perrier
Knob Creek BP bourbon.
Whistle Pig & a glass.
I convinced my wife, who’s not a drinker so she’d never heard of it, that we should name our son Evan Williams* Somehow, I’m still married and alive.
*She found out and that’s not his name.
Oh, well done with the avatar.
+1 dimension
Hypercube!
Can one gleam this hypercube?
Christian Slater might be up to the task.
Also, that this actress, playing a college student, is 35.
That’s been a Hollywood thing for decades. In the 1929 movie So This Is College, 25-year-old Robert Montgomery is the youngest of the lead students. The other two are 33 and 34.
Apparently, I screwed up the closing tag, but the link still seems to work.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Keene_(actor)
Tom Keene played a high school student at 32. Conversely one of his classmates was played by an actual 14 year-old and you can tell.
I’ll just leave this here…
Also, the entire cast of Grease.
Ducklips and selfie head tilt. Hard pass.
Nice try. Like we didn’t already know that from “is 35”.
I understand why it works this way, but I still find it jarring watching people in their 20s and 30s playing teenagers.
But she has the intellect of a teenager. That should count for something.
“I’m just drawn that way!”
Haha, in opera performances, it’s not uncommon for a woman in her 40s or 50s to be playing a nubile young lady who just reached marriageable age… Yea, it requires some suspension of disbelief.
In opera, the audience is on the far side of a theater.
In Television, the camera is shoved into the actors’ pores.
I have a nephew who, at 13, was 5’10” and about 180 lbs with long hair. You got this impression that he was a little slow witted because he presented as a guy in his mid 20’s but talked like a 13 year-old – and this is hit you that he SHOULD be talking like a 13 year-old.
“this is hit you…” should be “then it hit you…”
I get that with my kid. He’s 6 and a half, but looks like maybe 9-10. He’s gonna be tall af.
Our grandson’s just the same. He’s nine and looks twelve. I reckon that when he’s eighteen, I’ll be able to take him moose hunting; when I shoot a moose all I’ll have to do is dress it out, and he’ll throw it over his shoulder and walk it out to the truck.
Replacement Review: Netflix’s Historical Roasts with Jeff Ross
Totes woke. A lot of shitting on historical figures for not being sufficiently in line with the standards of modern progressive politics, funny moments were there but few and far between. My take on it was it was overly preachy and fell flat. Which is a shame because I usually like Jeff Ross’ stuff.
Gilbert Gottfried is hilarious as Hitler
Yeah, Gilbert was the highlight of the season. It helped that he has absolutely no problem with being as offensive as possible. John Stamos as John Wilkes Booth was pretty funny as well.
Agreed. Those two were the best.
Let me guess Marx, Lenin Mao, Stalin and Pol pot aren’t roasted.
I saw the preview and all I took away from it was, “this seems designed to appeal to the sort of people who thought there was some great intellectual feat in Alexander Hamilton being played by a black guy”.
I am sick to death of that and won’t have any more of it.
#metoo – they can’t see that some day people of this generation might be seen as barbaric because they didn’t have the proper intellectual capacity to conceive of the cultural contribution we are denying cephalopods or some other such crap.
In addition, back in the day 200+ years ago one didn’t banter incredulous insults about others unless you were willing to stand your ground – or apologize – when challenged to a duel of honor.
“Those dimwits at the turn of the 21st century believed men could be women, and that socialism was a viable option”
Holy. Shit. That avatar is as good as promised. Well done, sir! Well done!
Thank you, sir. I think I can do better. The white section beneath STEVE SMITH’S legs wasn’t intentional or visible on the original gif before I submitted it to WordPress. And I have no idea where those blotches popping up came from either. The fact it makes it look like SS is shitting while strutting his stuff was just a happy accident.
Sad to hear about the series, TH. I gave it a pass, for no real reason, other than it seemed kinda ‘meh’, and something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I guess I know now what that was.
Also, that this actress, playing a college student, is 35.
And in 10 years, she’ll be playing someone 55.
See also Holly Marie Combs who went from young adult (Piper, admittedly, was not a teen) on Charmed to Mom of Lucy Hale on Pretty Little Liars two years later. lol The better example is probably Shiri Appleby was playing an actual teen on Roswell, and then turned around to be the mom of a teenager on a different show, not that much later either. CW does that ALL the time.
The cabin is now open for the season. The river is flowing hard and I’m afraid something in the tall grass is going to eat me when I try to mow it tomorrow.
https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/Xx-5VMe5RpuGvvVQVO_VeA.4sfnZBhJtLHRDtTz04WNeR
Is that “your” river?
Damn straight. I throw rocks at rafters and kayakers as they go by.
CHOPIN!
Big dog loves the cabin.
As I look outside at the thermometer that broke when it hit 143° today, the first thought on my mind is, “You know who would really like to be here right now? Spud, that’s who.”
Excuse me, I left a couple eggs out on the back patio to poach. Need to grab them before the yolks get too solid.
Nice. Do you have actual rights to the river?
My parents own about a half mile of river in Virginia, but that’s fairly unusual anymore.
No. Average high water mark. Which is actually about 20’ in from the edge of the lawn.
Just signed the contract for Tesla Powerwalls. Pulling the permits this week.
I’m going to make sure I’m here for the entire install…. I have this feeling that Tesla is about to shit the bed, and I want to chat up the installers to see what they know.
I put down a deposit a year and a half ago….. heard nothing back. Nada. Now, all of a sudden, I’m getting several calls a week.
Tesla could be my new Chipotle.
How is Tesla going to give you E Coli?
They’d find a way to fail that hard.
Different disease, same symptom: hype.
I sniffed out the Chipotle hype when it was in the mid 700’s. Same store sales were shit, and they’d already expanded to every hippie location in the US and Western Europe. No more room for the exuberant growth they were projecting.
Same thing with Tesla now. Their subsidy quota is about to expire, and their cars are shit.
I beg to differ. Their cars aren’t shit.
Also, they are about to start cranking them out at the Chinese Gigafactory. People heaping shit on Tesla forget that global sales count too.
Shit might not be the right word, but if it were any other company, nobody would put up with that service model. Almost nothing is field serviceable.
Not to mention the shadow inventory. I live near Space X, and I’ve seen the parking structures.
Not to mention: my powerwall contact: a Hawthorne address at Space X.
Something is very fishy.
To each his own.
Tesla recently bought Maxwell, so I expect Ultracapacitors to get involved in the cars in some way in the future.
Is the new avatar your recent Dugway visit? Did the test go well?
What’s a dug weight?
About 20 pounds. Unless you get a Newfoundland or Swiss Bernard.
Yeah the avatar was today at Dugway. The testing took some doing but we are ready now for the REAL test next week.
I need a friggin vacation.
What, Utah not enough? Pshaw…
Also, +1 nice avatar.
Also the big manufacturers are starting to push out electric cars.
Corrected for accuracy.
Touché
The big manufacturers haven’t even touched the quota. Tesla’s is almost gone.
I’ve been on the waiting list for months too. Maybe I’m next!
It would be nice, although my electric bill last month was $10.68, so not critical.
For me, it’s the tax credits and incentives, plus protection against a blackout if the San Andreas slips. I have 5kw solar, and I’m getting 51kwh of battery.
There’s also some real estate capital gains considerations, but that’s a small part of it.
That shit needs to end right the hell now.
You’re so close.
No Playa loophole – sorry not sorry.
For tax credits to exist, there must be _________.
Taxes?
I know you get it, but a certain someone is against me finding “loopholes” to keep my own money.
?
DO you know how I feel about paying for government with taxes?
I didn’t install the solar; it came with the house, 6.4 kW, so I wasn’t the one to reap the tax benefits.
I wouldn’t have chosen a Tesla if not for the home solar, but it works well for me. And I love the autopilot stuff. Makes the drive down I-15 downright pleasant.
I too enjoy Russian roulette.
Panels= 30% of cost in federal tax credits.
Batteries= 30% of cost in federal tax credits, plus state.
At the moment, the state subsidy is on a sliding scale. For Southern California Edison, it is 35 cents PER WATT HOUR of battery storage. No, that’s not a typo. Yeah, that’s why I ordered 3 of them.
tf is a powerwall? I’m imagining something like the parlor walls from Fahrenheit 451.
We interrupt the already interrupted programming to bring you this special announcement.
Actually, I’m just a long-time lurker and I wanted to jump in to let SP, OMWC, Swiss and the rest of you know how much I enjoy this place. It’s been an oasis in the desert.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to contribute more in the future.
Tulpa, out!
Welcome and fuck off.
Right back atcha, Scruffy.
Next time you come, bring spice.
The orphans are mining it as we speak.
Geeze, FM! He’s new(ish)–no need to be giving him those kind of orders…
But, yeah–spice, please.
Hmm. This seems like a blatant attempt to avoid account deletion.
SQUASH HIM! SQUASH HIM LIKE A BUG!
She didn’t say that was a bad thing.
Only seems??
You know the best attempts are the blatant ones. They really are the best. You can’t beat them. Really. They’re the best.
Ah, let it slide. We could use some fresh blood around here. Plus you get the bonus of diluting my comment ratio. Win, win.
Have a .gif give a .gif.
Japanese, yes? Or Korean? Sorry, I get my East Asian squiggly lines muddled.
And…WTF?! Ha!
Japanese energy drink ad.
Thought so.
And to Gif it forward:
https://media.giphy.com/media/3o7qE6SJP91elen3qw/giphy.gif
I submitted this gif to the staff awhile back, maybe a year or so ago, as a possible 1st! gif. I think Swissy was the only one who thought it was funny.
“Gif it forward”, eh?
OK, pick one:
https://giphy.com/gifs/69qLrMWDDnQEE
or
This one
I’m not entirely sure how to process either one if those…well done!
NEEEDS MOAR LENS FLAIR!!!
Japanese energy drink ad? Needs moar Moritaka Chisato.
That’s definitely worthy.
Thank you, my good hippie-man.
Fuck my posting…
?I always feel like somebody’s watching meeeee?
Aint got no privacy
I can vouch for his non-Tulpa status and know him to be a true libertarian (just as soon as his check clears and that $25 deposits to my account)
You charge too little, I cannot put stock in your accreditation service, sir.
With the latest purge I was hoping to make up for it in volume.
The bribes must flow.
So, as a lurker, who is your favorite regular commenter? This is just something I’ve wondered.
Masochist.
Is that a compliment?! I hate compliments!!! (I guess this is my thing now, at least I’m not racist like Irish)
Count your blessings that you are so non-racist in a world full of people accused of being racist. Bask in your non-racism. You don’t have to pay me for this reply. It’s complementary.
The answer is always SP. At least if you value keeping your account active and your genitalia intact.
But SP’s favorite is SF, you’re making SP mad by trying to please SP…wait, oh OK…Now Arizona makes sense…
Gawd I hate Brit “logistics”. How about changing part numbers whenever you change the fit of a subcomponent? I know it’s a bother, but fuck, I really would like my car to start. New part arrives Friday. Same part #, but hopefully different. Should come with a matching subcomponent. You guys ever hear of assemblies”.
You mean they’ll have two differently assembled components inventoried under the same number?
Yep.
Makes for several combinations of incompatible parts.s They fit, but don’t work.
ABB does the same shit to us too. Is it a European thing? We ordered the very same part and it came and didn’t work. The original part ran on 24 V in. The new one needed 30 to 48 V.
Thanks for the heads up, guys. I was totally looking forward to grafting a DC-DC converter into 200 big ass modules.
Yeah!
*fiddles with dials pretending to know what they do*
That’s pretty basic. I don’t think even a Brit car maker was that bad. My complaint just involves a couple fiddly parts in the carbs.
The wee housing for the lightbulb over our stove suffers the same fate. At some point, design was changed to move mounting flange from one end to the other but part number remained the same. Sigh… J.B. Cold-Weld to the rescue.
Ugh, how the fuck do you run a manufacturing operation that way??
It kind of reminds me of this job I used to have in logistics: My job was to run reports to see which parts are needed where, and put together lists of which parts will go in the trailers every day (the warehouses were remote; I wasn’t actually sitting in there). I had to calculate the trailer space based on the pallet dimensions and stackability for each part (e.g. this part went in a 42 x 42 skid that could be doublestacked; that part went in a 72-inch rack that could not be stacked, etc).
The problem is that over the years, they had changed certain parts to different types of packaging, so the pallet dimensions in the computer were not actually right. You never know until the guy at the warehouse emails you back and says, “Hey, all these parts won’t fit, let me know what you want to remove” or “Hey, there’s three feet of empty space in this trailer, do you want to add more?”
I always got blamed when the trailer was overfilled or underfilled, yet nobody could give me an answer as to how I’m supposed to figure out what the dimensions of these pallets actually are.
I literally popped champagne the day I left that job.
Sigh… I pull pallets off trucks, break them down, and put product onto shelves. I am routinely pulling $100 or more in daily shrink due to shipping damage because cat litter gets loaded on top of spray cleansers or the driver was an enthusiastic aficionado of air-brakes.
I used to do that. The union truck drivers would always tell me to slow down – they didn’t want to have to make another run.
That kind of retail shrink. Not shoplifting.
Putting together this with what you said on an earlier thread.
I literally popped champagne the day I left that job.
Is Champagne a hotty stripper?
I have a customer that is absolutely obsessed with not having underfilled trucks. So they will constantly try to fill the truck with “A” inventory.
Only it creates more problems than the theoretical savings are worth. For one, they have to do additional inventory transactions that disrupt the workflow. Secondly, all their stuff is dyed, which means the stuff may be “A” inventory but the lot numbers change every day. So when the store gets the stuff, they wind up having 20 different lot numbers of the same product, 19 from before and a new shipment with the 20th different lot. So when a contractor comes in and wants 1.5 pallets of product “A”, they have to break the news that it’s 3 different lot numbers. So half the contractors say “fuck it” and will wait for a drop shipment from the factory. So the odd lots sit around waiting for someone to come in and buy in a smaller amount. Before that all gets depleted the store gets ANOTHER pallet of “fill up the truck” product “A” and in order for the store to make room they have to put current stock on sale below cost in order to get a shitty contractor to buy the stuff.
Get the traffic manager, the inventory manager, the retail manager, and the accounting manager together in a meeting and marvel at the additional waste as nobody wants to take responsibility and the accountant wants to limit the meeting to 30 minutes because time is money. Which only means you have 8 shorter meetings dragged out over two months where nothing gets decided instead of one long meeting where at least somebody has the chance of either making a decision due to exasperation or the anger swells to the point where an outsider like me at least gets entertainment.
Last Summer I had to find a fan for my 20+ year-old side-by-side GE fridge (50Hz export model). I spent a couple weeks ordering from one site or another – only to get a follow-up e-mail about the part not being in stock. I had tried places in the US, UK, and even South America. I finally found success ordering from a site based in France (navigating the order process in French – which I’ve never studied). It was cool as hell when the part showed up and it took me all of 15 minutes to install it and get my freezer running again.
Classic car guy question. Did ford make any purples similar to Plum Crazy?
Nobody did. That’s what Mopar the wacky third way company that it was. Ford was more about pastel blue and Chevy was way into Avocado green.
That’s what MADE Mopar.
Thanks to both
You beat me to it blackjack. I would check out 80’s color s from Ford. I seem to remember purple on many pickups from ford during the 80’s and 90’s
Sorry not to hear from MLW.
OT: Swedish Preppers.
A lot of freeze dried meatballs?
AKA “heaven”.
??This guy gets it.
AFL News: Carlton fired their coach yesterday.
39 defeats in 43 matches. Yikes.
RN: Sorry man, just – rough few years.
The Magpies are 3.2 / 1 favorites over the Demons, and frankly, that seems a tad generous to Melbourne. Especially since the Magpies are going to be looking for blood after the Fremantle game.
I’ve learned to never count on the Pies failing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Awful lot of globalist comments on that video
I feel like I’m meandering into a career quandary. Current job is evolving into an interesting, if not particularly transferable, area of work. Other option is to leverage some old law school contacts and do soul-sucking work that pays an ass load back in TX.
Money. You can buy happiness.
Yup. Money can buy interesting hobbies.
“Money can buy interesting hobbies.”
Especially in Tejas.
Early in my career I moved to Japan for the money and career opportunities. I pretty much got both of those but the hobby options have not been that great. Plenty of soul-sucking cubicle time with brief stretches of fun work have finally paid off into mostly part-time Asia-support, biz development which is paying OK.
Still, sometimes I wish I had a garage where I could work on cars, guns, reloading, and forging blades.
Speaking from experience, don’t do either.
Hope that helps.
Yes.
Quit your job and support yourself through camming on chaturbate.
Spend the rest of your time playing video games and vaping.
Dir sir,
How do I find an audience that wants to see…
… this?
There is always an audience.
Even if it’s an audience of one.
+/- The Death of the Author
i.e. Patron.
I do work I enjoy and make little. I’m also single with a great (as in reliable, not expansive or deep pocketed) family safety net.
It’s hard to succeed at something you hate.
Also, that this actress, playing a college student, is 35.
And must just be plastering on the, what was it, patriarchy paint? With a trowel. And probably wearing rape shoes, too. I’m sick of these half-measure feminists. Quit appropriating straight white male culture if you’re so sick of it. That’s our male power fantasy. Get your own. It’s not okay.
We may not be getting MLW’s piece tonight, but we did get a “Charmed” recap from Banjos earlier. That Spygate summary was fantastic and the comments provided better discussion than every panel on MSM channels combined.
Thanks for the link to that yasai itame recipe the other day. Made it for the wife last night and she was very happy with it.
Good! Itame is hard to screw up and so it’s perfect for someone like me that never measures anything. Too bland? Add more spices. Too spicy? Add more veggies and leftovers for breakfast.
Was that the soy sauce in the smoothie challenge?
Yes. BTW, you are absolutely correct. There’s no way to make that much soy sauce in one smoothie drinkable.
Not even low sodium.
When you realize that not even stupid teenagers here play “Let’s see who can drink the most soy sauce!”, you know how much punch that stuff packs. You’d be better off taking the Tide pod challenge.
So they are transferring Manafort to Rikers, eh? And of course, they have to keep him in solitary. There are probably some technical reasons they moved him there, but when you put an old man with health problems into a place like that for non violent crimes, you may want to rethink your ideas of “justice”.
It sounds like a punishment but Rikers is basically the real-world equivalent of Escape From New York. When they say it’s for his safety they’re not kidding. But yeah, I don’t get why the city gets to trump the Feds here.
I understand why they are putting him in solitary. They have to or they get a high profile murder on their hands.
Got it.
Why does woke New York allow such violations of brown people to occur at Rikers? Shouldn’t Big Bill be on the forefront of stopping this abuse? Kidding, but how often is there discussion of prison abuse in the NY media?
All the time. In fact, he’s pushing a plan to close Rikers and open “neighborhood prisons”.
…
It’s not going over well.
Even that would probably be better, no? It’s hard imagine it would be any worse. Then again, it’s DeBlasio…
I honestly can’t say.
Other than, I don’t think the problems with Rikers have anything to do with where Rikers is located as opposed to the people who staff & inhabit it.
It’s like blaming “bad schools” for poor test results. It’s not targeting the actual problems.
City Journal on Rikers:
https://www.city-journal.org/html/rikers-island-fiction-15097.html
Interesting theory. The issue is obviously fraught with complications.
It’s worth noting that since that article ran, this is in fact policy now. Along with other petty crimes. So yeah, the wheels are in motion.
Follow up from 2018:
https://www.city-journal.org/html/shuttering-rikers-15878.html
One of these things are not like the other….
(Actually three of those things are not like the other)
One attorney’s view of the “technical reasons”:
“In my experience, defendants serving time in federal prisons for federal crimes who are then indicted for state crimes are not usually transferred to Rikers until the eve of their state trials.
Manafort is being treated differently and more harshly because of his past connections to President Trump and the fear that Trump will exercise his constitutional authority to pardon Manafort.” — Alan Dershowitz @ https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/alan-dershowitz-why-is-paul-manafort-off-to-rikers-prepare-to-be-shocked-and-outraged
“It should be shut down. It is so bad that defendants often plead guilty, even if they have defensible cases, simply to move to a safer and better prison.”
So the state is using the threat of rape and murder to get people to plead guilty. Nice.
Interesting & that makes sense. Politics.
Rhywun, you live there so you are at higher risk than most Glibs of Rikers.
Except… I keep my three felonies a day on the DL.
Do you go to a singles speakeasy so you can flirt? Flirting in NYC was illegal in mid-2016 according to
https://nypost.com/2016/06/19/new-york-citys-most-ridiculous-laws/ and may or may not still be illegal. Some other ones FTA:
“It is against the law to throw a ball at someone’s face for fun”
“import, sell, offer for sale . . . transport or otherwise market” cat and/or dog fur and/or hair Is that why they made Miami Vice (TV) instead of New York Vice?
“A license must be purchased before hanging clothes on a clothesline”
“No taking selfies with tigers” even with the owner’s permission
“It’s against the law to run a puppet show in a window”
“You may not walk around on Sundays with an ice cream cone in your pocket” Do people do this Monday to Saturday?
“It’s illegal for two or more mask-wearing people to congregate in public”
OK make that 8 to 10 felonies a day.
Well, if I know Rhy, and I’m sure I do, he’s definitely not guilty here:
Congregate? Rhywun?
I can’t contradict this.
Guilty or not guilty, let us hope that Rhywun can keep felonies on the DL and not wind up trying to post on Glibs from within Rikers.
“What do you mean, “influence other prisoners”? Pfft! You mean at the minimum-security prison? They don’t want him influencing other federal prisoners, so they take him to Rikers ’cause they don’t want him to influence them? Which prisoners are you talking about that they don’t want him to influence? Well, here’s another crazy thing. Manafort’s got continued court appearances in the federal minimum-security prison a couple blocks from the courthouse. Rikers Island is now a much bigger trip than that to and from the courthouse. It’s gonna be a hassle for everybody out there, except for Cyrus Vance VIII or whichever Cyrus Vance he is.” — Rush Limbaugh @ https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2019/06/04/vindictive-da-moves-manafort-to-rikers/
I just want to thank Banjos for the excellent posts today. Brava!
“I [also] want to thank Banjos for the excellent posts today. Brava!”
I find your gendered language abusive and sexist!
Up to you what you think. What I think is that CPRM is not Banjos.
BravO?!
“Banjos. Wife of sloopy, mother to three bright, curious, and highly active young girls. Perpetually exhausted.” Self identifies as female. BravA!
Forget it. The joke is ruined now. Good job Francis.
You know what other Francis ruined a good joke? When someone puts together a conference on the topic of “Is the Pope Catholic?”
Titty Tuesday rolls on!

Yo.
Wife starting Vancomycin tonight. What else do I need to know?
Does she have C diff? That sucks if so, I’m sorry.
Vancomycin is actually a lot easier than Metronidazole (first line treatment). Is this a recurrence? If so, you’ll want to make sure she does a taper (consult with the doctor). If not, just make sure she takes it as prescribed. Buy some Florastor and some general probiotics, maybe some Kefir as well, and take it several hours after the Vanc. The Vanc will kill the good bugs if you take it too close in time.
Make her use a separate bathroom no one else does until she’s better. It’s highly contagious and the only thing that kills it is soap and water or bleach.
C diff culture came back positive today.
She had a weird eye infection a few weeks ago. The doctor dropped a bomb on it, and this is the result.
I got it from Augmentin for a sinus infection. When taken orally, almost no Vanc is absorbed systemically, it just stays in the gut killing the baddies. That’s why it doesn’t have as many sides as Metro. She should hopefully start feeling better in a week, but it’s a long way back. C diff screws things up so she may have difficulty with some foods for months. Also be on the lookout for a recurrence, even after it gets better, it comes back in a third of patients (what happened to me) and it’s a lot tougher to get rid of after that. Try to squash it this first time around.
It has made me a LOT more circumspect about antibiotics.
Yeah, this all goes back to the eye infection. Clearly viral.
I’m not worried about the contagion; I have to take abx all the time in addition to a PPSV/Prevnar booster. The rest of the family will be fine.
The bullshit is incredible, though. Vanco script? Insurance denied. Fine. Cash, I’ll submit the receipt. Oh, you see the cash transaction going through, and you aren’t going to get your preferred pricing? Fuck off, you had your chance.
That stuff was expensive and my insurance even covered it. I had to take it for three months since it was a recurrence; it cost me almost 750 bucks even with insurance.
Oh, and Kefir is a regular part of both of our diets.
Yogurt is bullshit. It’s all about the biffidum. If the bottle doesn’t swell when you take it out of the fridge, you done wrong.
CPRM-
I see the redbubble store is now open. Excellent work. I just got my most recent order yesterday, but, I’ll be buying a shirt pretty soon, I would think.
Is it open(publicly)? They’re telling me not because they’re waiting on my paypal being certified.
I can buy stuff right now. I need to wait a bit, but, yeah-it’s open
huh.
This is a good thing, right? I mean, you can never tell what’s going on with those dirty Aussies…
I mean, as long as any money made makes it back to me, cool. I’ts just odd, to me, that they would tell the artist that the page wasn’t live if it is. If you wanna order some shit, go ahead. Sadly it only shows the Warty Hugeman tanktops being available in wymin’s sizes. I was going for this atheistic.
Also,
I know this isn’t your issue, and, it’s likely not actually an issue. But, a couple of stores there have come close with the glibs logo.
Also, what is this, amateur hour?
Glasses? Who gives a shit about glasses? Who the fuck is that guy?
Yeah, they had the logo contest before I even jumped ship over here.
Prog Harder: The Homeless Years
Evidence? Repeatable? Observations? Why why are you so anti-science?!
“The new count of homeless people puts the number at 59,000 in Los Angeles County, and 36,000 in the city of Los Angeles — that represents an increase year-over-year of a whopping 16 percent.”
Prog answer: 16% more homeless means they “need” more than a 16% increase in their budget or else it’s a budget cut “on the backs of the” in this case homeless.
“Ridley-Thomes rejected criticism that new homeless programs had failed, and said that they simply needed to ‘stay the course.’”
It’s like Los Angeles “public servants” forgot how to prog.
A ray of hope? Nah. Not when there’s money to be taken.
“the beleaguered city [of Los Angeles] spent millions to try to alleviate the epidemic.” Instead of spending taxes or the kind of borrowing to be repaid by taxes, the government(s) should try to persuade people to donate the money to the alleviation program(s) the government(s) approve the government should be doing.
Or, or, just putting this out there, if regulations allowed EVIL BUSINESSMEN to build housing cheaper fewer people would have the problem and there would be no need for either government or charities to step in? I’m just spitballing here…
Whoa, bro! Do you even L.A.??
Yeah, except most homelessness isn’t about housing.
Yeah, my dad had a cousin who preferred to live (and die) as hobo in FL than take care of his kids or even accept help from his parents. Damned libertarians!
“fewer” does not mean “no need” for the remaining “few.” Some of the ‘down’ just need cheaper whatever, food, housing, medicine, transportation, yeah. Those who are ‘down’ by their own fault need a way out if they decide they are ready to change. There is also the third category that need help keeping a regular schedule of taking their meds, learning or relearning the life skills you would want a tenant to have if you were (or maybe you are) a landlord, substance abuse rehab, mental and physical health treatment, etc. Trying to help them also has its own regulations…
Doesn’t a lot of this come down to incentives? I mean, there is, obviously, a contingent that can’t adult on their own. But, I’m of the opinion most people who are about to be homeless and don’t want it, make some move to cheaper areas in an attempt to survive. I am under the impression that the truly sick homeless people (the base/foundation level of the issue) probably haven’t increased that much, proportionally. And, that the increase is more likely due to choices.
This may not be quite the case in L.A. (I have no real idea, but, “Hollywood”), but it certainly seems the case in WA/OR. That we’re talking about West Coast makes me think there’s a relationship there.
Or, CPRM’s story.
Damn his concise stories!
I actually cheated there. He didn’t die as a hobo, when he was about to die he took up his VA bennies and died of liver failure in state hospital, and got buried as a ‘fallen hero’ hurrah!?
That was a surprise ending.
?
Taking out all those various containers of intoxicants?
1) what I gather from “liver failure”
2)I thought that was reserved for actual combat death…
or, is that used euphemistically?
Fallen hero.
He got buried in a veteran’s cemetery, for free the same as if he died in combat. After abandoning his family, living as a hobo and then dying in the state’s dime. HE WAS A HERO! (for getting dishonorably discharged without seeing combat)
Interesting. Any normal vet is authorized a military funeral, but I’m pretty sure getting a DD drops *all* rights and privileges.
Local estimates are 30% of the homeless are mentally ill.
Hey, just because I shit in the street doesn’t make me homeless or mentally ill!!
Right. It makes you a bad guest.
Hey! I pay my shitting tax!
I HAVE THE RIGHT!!!
In places like LA or NYC it’s mostly a combination of people with mental issues (who in the old days would have been hospitalized) and people who prefer that lifestyle. The ones who are just priced out (i.e. the ones that get all the attention) are indeed the ones who move out to somewhere cheaper. Or live in shelters until they figure out something better. The street homeless mostly refuse shelters. The big lie is that you can “solve” these issues by throwing more money at them. No. It seems to me that you either have to accept large numbers of indigent people in shitty hospitals, or living on the street.
But, but…RHY!! I feel for them! It just hurts my heart to these people suffering. Someone must do something to
stop me from feeling badhelp these poor, unfortunate souls!/That’s enough html
I suspect law enforcement is part of this too. San Diego has a problem but it pales in comparison to LA. I think there is somewhat greater willingness to tell able bodied, mentally competent homeless to obey the law or enjoy some time in lock up.
Poor Unfortunate Souls. And the glibs version.
(1) You might be surprised how many who say they prefer living on the streets would chose differently if given a better chance at succeeding at not being ‘down’ than they have now.
(2) Even if you are going to have government-run homeless programs, don’t use taxes to pay for them.
Part of requiring that spending be paid for by voluntary money is that spending be paid for (deals with debt problem). The other part is that the money is voluntary rather than by taxes or the two-step of borrowing and then making the payments with taxes. But then the bar for getting the money is higher than persuading a bureaucrat or politician to spend tax money (waste problem). Voluntary money is more moral (morality problem). For the United States, the national government could even do farm subsidies, Social Security, etc. without violating the old white slavers’ document with voluntary donations instead of taxes or borrowing on the credit of the United States (constitutionality problem).
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t support private charities helping the homeless. I’m just saying, a lot of the people rendered homeless now have simply been priced out of the market due to regulation. Most of the one’s left after that have chosen the lifestyle. If you want to help them, that’s grand. But if housing regs made housing cheaper, guess what, more people would get housed.
I guess the rub was “no need.” I don’t think anyone commenting on this subthread is arguing against getting government out of the way of landlords to make housing more affordable. I think Glibs would also agree that less government interference in nongovernmental charity (private and parochial) would also help them be more effective in dealing with those who are not helped by making the housing cheaper. My original point was that milliosn of dollars taken by force or threat of force was spent officially to fight this “epidemic,” and I think that if the government is going to run a program for doling out money to organizations to do homeless shelters, handing out clothes, etc. that the money should come from voluntary donations. Imagine the government running a campaign to get people to donate money for LASHA to redistribute to those who subsidize the homelessness lifestyle.
This whole thing is a clusterfuck. Even if LA completely deregulated housing, including dropping all zoning, it would still have to abide by CA state regulations. At most, the city could overcome NIMBYism. The city is likely aware of the federal court order in neighboring Orange County that disallows displacing homeless people unless the county has shelter for them. Then add in the voluntary lack of enforcement of smaller crimes typically associated with the homeless.
This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
“Los Angeles officials are “stunned” by a report that shows homelessness has increased by a large percentage *even* after the beleaguered city spent millions to try to alleviate the epidemic.”
“Even”?
” To support, create and sustain solutions to homelessness in Los Angeles County by providing leadership, advocacy, planning, and management of program funding.
LAHSA Mission Statement” https://www.lahsa.org/about
I think that is government-speak for “We spent money.” plus:
“Have you done anything?”
“Well, we’ve, er, assessed the situation.”
“Just as I thought. Nothing.” — The Three Doctors
Is this a Q/OMWC joint venture?
I was soooo glad that wasn’t a link to porn with kids with giant tits. I would have had to burn everything I own then and start life anew as drifter, hitchhiking his way across the country. Trying to outrun my past, while an intrepid reporter followed the clues…
I never understood why he thought he could do the research to find a treatment for his condition while drifting holding down low-paying under-the-table jobs. Or the reporter having the equivalent of diplomatic immunity openly breaking so many laws. Or that there would be enough of a following for his monster sightings stories that the paper would finance that expensive version of journalism. Although what the writers think they know about hurricanes is amusing.
A firm “no” on the kids, then.
How about mountains?
I do love the idea of On the Run in Wisconsin, to be honest. Then again, unlikely–too much cheese.
I still laugh, in HS we watched a ‘documentary’ about the 30’s. John Dillinger really did come to the area. But there was a line in this ‘documentary’ that said when the FBI was pursuing him they had to travel ‘treacherous mountain roads’. HAHA! We’ve got some big hills, but no mountains.
Wish I could find the screen capture of an episode of the original Dallas that showed the lovely mountains of North-Central Texas in the background…
I feel your pain, BROTHER!!
Step By Step took place in Wisconsin as well, and had an episode where they went camping in the mountains.
God forgive me, but I actually liked Sasha in Kickboxer 2. Of course, the report is he beat his first wife.
And, yeah, Staci Keanan. Although, not as a martial artist.
Sorry guys, had a work project that absorbed my weekend because (((they))) don’t believe in Sundays. And since I’m a shiksa, I got delegated for Saturday, too. But it should be done now so I should be good to go for next week. ?
So. Tell me about this sister. Younger, sleeker model 😉 I’m like a cold sore, the only way to get rid of me is to give me to someone else. (That’s how that works, right? I don’t have a medical degree…)
::quietly waiting for this to pay dividends::
It’s SCIENCE! You can’t argue with it.
Damn those intellectual concepts!
Don’t worry. We’re cool. Unless you are an orphan, in which case a Glib will come by, put on a monocle and tophat, and demand that you review two episodes by next Tuesday (or three if count skipping a week for what used to be called a “catch up special”).
Eeek! I kinda forgot that was the original purpose of the article….
Sorry, MLW.
(((I’m))) sorry. I’ll take this up with the Elders of Zion at the next meeting.
Tell ’em the Texas Goy Boy says, “‘S’up”.
That’s not really part of the the Protocols but I’ll see what I can do.
MLW, my first reaction when I read the news was to shout NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! But you weren’t here so it seemed pointless.
Now that you are….
This just in: Chafed yells at women!
Film at 11:00.
Sorry you were busy at work, MLW. Daughter (8yo) LOVES both iterations of Charmed, wifey and I love the old version but are now starting to enjoy the new one ONLY because of your recaps. Thank you and keep up the good work.

In the un-woke Charmed (can you believe “un-woke” with Alyssa Milano?), is it “I am the sun. I am the air.” or is it “I am the son. I am the heir.”?
More like BOOBS ON SCREEN! (this reaction is true of males and females and all the in betweens that watched the original show)
Son and heir.
That song would never be used today. INCEL!! lol
How do you know?
I mean, how do you get to son/heir instead of sun/air?
because the next line of the song is “of nothing in particular”. “i am the air of nothing in particular” doesn’t make much sense.
and also, because Smiths lyrics have been around a long time and I used to own the LP.
“I didn’t choose someone who has a history of brain cancer in the family. I would never have chosen this donor. They should be ashamed to even have this donor on the website.”
Hey, lady–you know who else thought some people were inferior to others? No, not him. Or, him. No, not them, either.
Also included in this article: the obligatory lack-of-regulation mention.
But, hey–It’s the Times!
OMG!! RAPE!!?? Oh, wait no. Do these kids come with a warranty? What’s the mileage limit?
Just think of how they would ‘return’ the kids….
Yeeesh….. Also: Paging Q! Q, to the lesbian boy-return scene…
Justice delayed is justice denied.
Don’t get me wrong: Any action like this is necessary and appropriate. ^That was just an easy slogan to use.
I was shocked when I that appeared in PM links. I’ve never heard of a cop getting prosecuted for failing to do his job.
Then you may enjoy what happened to his boss. I may be wrong, but if I recall correctly: the “school resource officer” was employed by the Broward [county] Sheriff’s Office. Said sheriff was suspended for the remainder of his term of office by the incoming governor after the November 2016 election. The governor also appointed an interim replacement. The suspension was upheld by a vote of the Cabinet. Said ex-sheriff sued. Judge said (summarizing, but not by much) that governor had sufficient grounds as defined by law to suspend, law gives ex-sheriff right to appeal to cabinet, cabinet voted already, next case.
2018, not 2016

I was just a kid but I remember the fun we had at the Secession of The Conch Republic – jeering at the Coast Guardsmen and throwing stale bread at their cutters. I still have my passport somewhere in the attic. The Florida Keys in the 1970s was a bit of a paradise.
TESTING…testing…testing…
Everyone buggers off for hump-day prep.
“TESTING…testing…testing…”
loud and clear
Getting kids packed up and ready for school. Daughter has music today and needs her recorder. Daughter, apparently, misplaced her recorder last week but is only telling me this now. Sigh…
Of course.
Sounds of my house in the morning. ‘What do you mean you forgot….(insert item here)? Now you tell us!?’
Well, to be fair, Muppets have stuffing, not brains.
You know what else the Muppets have for stuffing?
