So this week we have an actual sign in the heavens. It’s a double leg through Jupiter (retrograde)–which isn’t exactly the best linkage you can have. One leg involves the Earth and the Sun, the other is the Moon with Mars and Mercury. Now that first one means “trouble at home, domestic discord.” The second has the primary meaning of “Drama!” but also has clear implications of infidelity by a male, a soldier receiving bad news, and/or a lie starting a fight. Usually you should try to figure out which leg is the event and which leg is the influences leading to it, but in this case I don’t think it matters much.
It’s most likely that a Gemini will be the cause of the above drama rather than the victim of it. Mars and Mercury in Scorpio means we will get some clarification about something that has been a problem up until now (and boy do I have a candidate for a long-standing issue that needs figuring out). You will need to work a bit on your self control with the moon in Leo amping up any tendencies towards moodiness. Venus is transiting between Taurus and Gemini, so if your fantasy is a hookup with twin dudes, this is a great week to make it happen.
The cards agree: This week is all about the dudes. Only two cards of a feminine nature were shown, and they were both reversed. Not so good for women in authority. This week, remember the motto of of Clan Gordon: “By Courage, not Craft.” Indirection and stratagems are contraindicated.
Gemini: 8 of Coins, reversed – voided ambition, usury, vanity
Cancer: Ace of Wands – Creation, invention, enterprise, birth
Leo: King of Wands – Honest conscientious man, countryman, friendly dark man
Virgo: 3 of Swords – Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture
Libra: Page of Wands – Dark young man, lover, envoy, postman. For men, this indicates favorable testimony will be given concerning you.
Scorpio: Judgment, reversed – Weakness, simplicity, deliberation, sentence
Sagittarius: 8 of Wands, reversed – Jealousy, internal dispute, pangs of conscience, quarrels
Capricorn: Queen of Swords, reversed – Malice, bigotry, prudery, deceit, artifice
Aquarius: The Hierophant, reversed – Understanding, concord, over-kindness, weakness
Pisces: Ace of Swords – Triumph, excess in everything, great force in love and hate.
Aries: The Magician, reversed – Physician, mental illness, anxiety
Taurus: Knight of Wands, reversed – Rupture, interruption, division, discord
Virgo: 3 of Swords – Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture,
So I can never leave this hellhole?
Being first also means you’re walking point……
Not so good on patrols
Libra: Page of Wands – Dark young man, lover, envoy, postman. For men, this indicates favorable testimony will be given concerning you.
Quit subsidizing Libras by paying for post service shortfalls from general revenue. User fees not taxation.
Second!
Leo: King of Wands – Honest conscientious man, countryman, friendly dark man
I think I can work with that. From my go to tarot source :
“The meaning of the upright position of the King of Wands represents pure energy. Unlike the other wands cards in the deck however, this particular one is not focused on pure creativity. Instead, this king is actually way more likely to take an idea and to decisively implement it himself. The King of Wands is a natural born leader of people, and he is also extremely capable. Once the king sets for himself a certain aim or a goal, he is going to conveniently stick to it in order to ensure that it becomes a reality.
The King of Wands looks forward to all sorts of different challenges – whether great or small, for he gets a natural adrenaline rush associated with the solving of problems. ”
Dang. I suppose that means I gotta get off the sofa and get something done.
I need to figure out how to work that into my interview tomorrow without mentioning its from my horoscope.
I’d just mention that it was written about you.
Good luck!
“ROBC, how would you describe yourself”
I am pure energy, I can take an idea and decisively implement it. I am a natural born leader and extremely capable. If I set out a goal I see it becomes reality. I love challenges and love the adrenaline rush of solving any problem.
Work that in.
Thats the part I was taling about.
“upright position of the King of Wands”
Now, that’s a euphemism.
Pure energy
That better be the Information Society.

“Libra: Page of Wands – Dark young man, lover, envoy, postman. For men, this indicates favorable testimony will be given concerning you.”
So someone is going to vouch for my character after I eliminate the new, young poc postman trying to nail my wife?
Well since you hang out here, I can only assume that your character is shady at best.
“Dark young man, lover, envoy, postman. ”
That means you are going to get a big package.
????
So someone is going to vouch for my character after I eliminate the new, young poc postman trying to nail my wife?
Just send the little interloper a sternly worded letter.
The meaning of the upright position of the King of Wands represents pure energy.
That’s one way to look at it.
Gemini: 8 of Coins, reversed – voided ambition, usury, vanity
I voided my ambition years ago. Usury? I can relate, I will be out of debt years from now. Vanity? I got nothing.
Vanity
Ace of Wands – Creation, invention, enterprise, birth – nope not even close
Jealousy, internal dispute, pangs of conscience, quarrels
The voices in my head will be arguing with each other?
That’s not exactly revelatory.
“. Not so good for women in authority.”
And “Aries: The Magician, reversed – Physician, mental illness, anxiety”
So not a great week for taking on another faction in my company?too late; I called their bluff Thursday.
I went all-in. We flip the cards over on Tuesday.
(Not tarot cards of course; poker)
It’s not saying you won’t be able to beat what gets thrown at you, just that things won’t be as easy as you would like.
I am already aware that I am outnumbered next week by a team that wants to obscure their incompetence by blaming low available pulsed power.
So I flogged my best guys out there from the day after Memorial Day through the weekend through Wednesday to get it ready to double the energy delivered.
What’s your excuse now, bitches?
Excuse-making really allows people’s creativity to shine.
The level of Machiavellian BS that goes on is amazing to behold.
Thank God I’ve read Robert Cialdini’s “influence: the Psychology of Persuasion “ so I know when I am being snowed.
One thing I absolutely LOVE about this job is while people are people, they are a lot more honest when it’s possible to go back through and see if what they say they did is what the machine says they did.
Story time — we kept seeing sodium, potassium, calcium and zinc failures, which is a good indication that someone was touching something. Of course that totally wasn’t happening. So one day we took the wafers they sent to us and re-routed them to SEM for a defect scan. The defect map showed a perfect fingerprint. We recommended they fingerprint their technician corps, but they declined to do so.
Imagine a world without zinc
Office politics in a company with pulsed energy weapons… could be interesting.

Pie, if your “friend” works for the same employer as you, then if you remain “speechless,” then your “friend” not getting a raise means there is more money available to pay for your raise. If not, you might want to consider telling your “friend” that the point of the employer paying an employee is to get more value from paying said employee than paying someone else to do the job unless there is a ‘hassle premium’ involved. Two, but not the only, kinds of ‘hassle premium’ is when an employer is willing to pay more for a position if it gets someone to fill it that requires less supervision and someone who is less whiny.
Also, what’s good for business means that the business has money to hire more employees, pay raises to the existing ones, and so on. Instead of “speechless,” consider telling your “friend” about that.
lol. no my friend does not work for the same employer. he didn’t do much work in his life until a couple of years ago…
What is with the piece of pie thingy?

Identity is based completely on politics. Clarence Thomas and Marco Rubio are both White Men. So is Carly Fioria.
Peter Thiel isn’t gay, he’s a “man who has sex with men.” Bootyjudge only counts as gay because he’s running for President. Otherwise, he’d just be a heteronormativity-upholding mwhswm.
I’ve been to couple pride parades, the last time almost 20 years ago. Beyond the writhing bodies and shitty house music, they tend to be a dumpster fire of lefties trying to out-prog each other.

“Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry Unknown, Dunbartonshire Scotland” is listed at ratemyprofessors.com
Perhaps it says something about the site’s vetting that there are reviews posted there for (may or may not be a comprehensive list): Dolores Umbridge, Filius Flitwick, Gilderoy Lockhart, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Professor Albus Dumbledore, Professor Firenze Centaur, Professor Harry Potter, Professor Minerva McGonagall, Professor Quirinus Quirrell, Professor Rat Scabbers, Professor Remus Lupin, Professor Severus Snape, Professor Tom Riddle, Sorting Hat, and Sybill Trelawney.

OK, I’m pretty happy with my one-handed shooting on my left side — consistently scoring in the upper 80’s and 90s. The right side… is not good enough to get a combined score of 175. Which is where I want to be before I get someone to witness things. I could go with a lighter gun like a .22 target pistol or I could LIFT MOAR to get my right side stronger. The buttocks are for carrying drugs for when you shoot yourself in the scrotum.
Shooting yourself anywhere on the body is an instant DQ. However, if you are morbidly obese, you won’t be DQ’d for muzzling yourself while drawing/holstering as long as you only muzzle yourself below the waist.

Crushed by the wheels of justice
An author whose publisher censured her after she tweeted a photo of a Washington subway worker eating during a break has filed a lawsuit against the California literary firm.
——–
The tweet, since deleted, accompanied a photo of a black transit worker eating on a break.
“When you’re on your morning commute & see @wmata employee in UNIFORM eating on the train. I thought we were not allowed to eat on the train. This is unacceptable. Hope @wmata responds. When I asked the employee about this, her response was, ‘worry about yourself.'”
The Washington Metro transit authority expressed appreciation and asked for time markers that might help it track the employee down. But a backlash against Tynes was swift, with University of New Hampshire professor Chanda Prescod-Weinstein summing up the feelings of many: “Eating while Black.”
Rare Bird said last month it would no longer distribute Tynes’ forthcoming novel, “They Called Me Wyatt,” which was set to be published on Rare Bird imprint California Coldblood Books.
“Black women face a constant barrage of this kind of inappropriate behavior directed toward them and a constant policing of their bodies,” the publishing company said in a statement,
If I understand this correctly, the woman was pointing out the incongruity of a Metro employee, in uniform, breaking a rule which she would presumably enforce against a paying customer.
Eating while black, indeed.
Release the mob!
It was shithead thing to do in the public sphere. She could have marked the time and place then brought it to the attention of the Metro. If they found she was eating while on the clock and do nothing, then you go public with it and pray your not hailed a racist. She wanted her hot take and now she’s paying for it. That may not be fair but given the endless cases of people screaming racist at the drop of the hat she probably should have known better.
Bs. You report it privately, they sit on it, nothing happens and you’ll never know.
Employees of an organization represent that organization in public. If the worker didn’t want to get called out for they, they can a) not break the rules that their employer enforces against supposedly everyone b) take off their uniform so they aren’t a representative. How hard is it to realize that everyone and their mother has a cellphone and can record your misbehavior on the job when in view of the public? Also c) how many fellow employees saw it and let it slide, just like cop malfeasance?
GL FTW.
Guess what, you report it publicly and nothing happens then either.
What’s the fixation with “bodies”? Do some people actually talk like that?
The other day there were 4 girls at the community pool – one white and three black – who were acting extremely rude and breaking a few of the rules. When I called them out – shitlord that I am – I did have a niggling fear it could become a racist incident.
I can’t even.
Yep. LH is literally Hitler.
There are some elements to this that people outside the DMV may not get, and it’s that a.) DC is a majority-minority (majority African-American, I believe) city in terms of population and culture (it’s known as Chocolate City), b.) racial conflict influences EVERYTHING in and around it, and c.) Metro makes the TSA look like highly-trained professionals. So, if you’re unlucky enough to find yourself on the Metro you’ll likely spot one of the employees sitting around on their phone, maybe chatting with a friend, maybe sleeping, and if you are foolish enough to actually ask them for anything you’ll be lucky if you’re just ignored. For a white woman to call a black Metro employee out on a train is the kind of quasi-suicidal act only someone who hasn’t lived in the area long enough would perform.
I’ve seen racism in the South, and it’s typically a white person saying or doing something rude to a black person. It’s shitty. Here, it’s usually the reverse but turned up to 11. In the city, a lot of black people seem to have enormous chips on their shoulders and are spoiling for a fight. Obviously this isn’t everyone, but you’re much more likely to as a white person experience blatant racism from a black person in DC than to see racism directed against a black person by a white person. You’re also much more likely to hear black people yelling racial epithets at white people in the street. More than once I’ve been out at night in DC in my club days and seen some white dude walking with his girlfriend past a line of young black men waiting outside a club get heckled, grabbed, and in the cases where the guy said something back get cold-cocked. In Adams-Morgan, mind you, not 90s Anacostia.
I’m glad I live far enough out to not deal with that shit. It feels majority-minority out here, too. However that’s due to Indian and Chinese immigration. Much better for racial strife, much worse for driving.
Ok, here are the actual numbers. So it’s majority African-American, followed by white (including Hispanic), then a very small minority of Asians and non-white Hispanic and everybody else. PG county is now also majority African-American, driven by people escaping DC for the ‘burbs.
majority-minority
Memphis is like that, but we’re good at it. Sincere or otherwise, there are mingling rules, lots of polite gestures, and then everyone can move on thinking whatever they want; such is life in restaurants, on the sidewalk. Of course, no reasonable middle-class person here would ride public transportation; a job here without free parking would never be filled.
Confrontation is the norm: blaring rap at the traffic signal, opportunistic panhandling, slow and taunting delays as jaywalkers drag across major roads (often only inches from a safe crosswalk). I’ve seen it all my life; I see it as typical to all the other things that some people don’t learn, symbolic of how a swath of town doesn’t have much in the way of social norming. Of course, some norms are arbitrary, and some white kids turn their Ozzy or their country up to 11.
But walking into the path of someone who has to seriously brake to accommodate you is just wrong.
In Annapolis, 45 minutes east and well away from the city, it’s still pretty testy. I remember back in the day when I was working at a local Irish pub I was in the kitchen talking to the kitchen manager and line cook, both middle-aged black men from the area. Very nice guys, normal, not like especially confrontational or sensitive or whatever. Well, this poor girl who’d moved down from New Hampshire comes in and, bless her heart, says, “So you boys have anything good planned for the weekend?” You could’ve heard a pin drop. It was like all the records on Earth skipped as she said “boys”. I think I just muttered something like, “Ooooh, yeah, that’s…not…yeah…” and started to exit stage left. She was totally clueless, and after a couple seconds the kitchen manager said something along the lines of, “I guess New Hampshire is different but, down here, you don’t say ‘boy’ to black people.” If she had been a dude and those two hadn’t been nice, understanding, middle-aged men, that would’ve been a fight.
There was a lot of this growing up in Rochester and Buffalo. There were definite no-go areas for me – and every school I attended from 4th grade on was in the middle of one. Fun times.
More than once I’ve been out at night in DC in my club days and seen some white dude walking with his girlfriend past a line of young black men waiting outside a club get heckled, grabbed, and in the cases where the guy said something back get cold-cocked.
Walking outside a club? Sounds tame. My wife and I got that shit just running errands back when we lived in Norfolk. When we were still just dating college kids, my wife and I lived in a horrible section of town to save on rent. The worst incident was when I got a frantic call from her inside a dollar tree that some black thug just told her she would be going home with him. She told him to get lost and he proceeded to walk outside, stand in front of the glass, knock on it, and grinned at her with fake gold fronts while pointing at himself.
I got there in two minutes to escort her out. He tried to start something with me when we left the store. I had my hand on my grip under my shirt and told him to disappear. He turned and took off like he running a race. I figured he likely took me for an off-duty cop or else correctly realized his day was about to take a very bad turn if he advanced further.

I think they do that to absolve themselves of agency and responsibility.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/a-win-for-gun-rights-in-pennsylvania/ar-AACrIeU
Unless a police officer has prior knowledge that a specific individual is not permitted to carry a concealed firearm, and absent articulable facts supporting reasonable suspicion that a firearm is being used or intended to be used in a criminal manner, there simply is no justification for the conclusion that the mere possession of a firearm, where it lawfully may be carried, is alone suggestive of criminal activity.
Good good good.
Frankly, I don’t get how it came to be that the 2A outside the home was in any way different than inside. No other Constitutional right applies in your home but requires all manners of fees, background checks, and permits to be exercised outside your home (sure, there are permits needed for some types of public gatherings, but that’s nowhere near what goes in with the 2A in many states).
https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-new-california-law-restricts-ammo-20190609-story.html
each year California law enforcement officers have uncovered hundreds of thousands of rounds of illegal ammunition while investigating the illegal possession of firearms
What could that possibly mean?
ammunition with projectiles >20mm in diameter?
Seriously though, there are places here that won’t sell pistol caliber ammunition without the buyer having a pistol permit. At least they aren’t checking to see that the caliber matches what’s on your permit.
“At least they aren’t checking to see that the caliber matches what’s on your permit.”
I recognize the words, but they make no sense.
NYS handgun permits include a list of every single handgun you own on it. Make, model, caliber.
Here’s a neat collection of opinions: https://www.laxammooc.com/california-ammo-laws-for-2019/
I’m guessing there’s some cop killer bullet bs that’s banned, but, even so: hundreds of thousands of rounds ?
California is that place dedicated to making sure its denizens get everything they deserve, good and hard.
Holy shit. You have to pay for your background check every time you buy ammo?
Holy shit. You know how you feel about Texas? Every day I wake up and thank God that I don’t live in California.

NBC Gold just really pissed me off. I login to watch last night’s Indycar race in Texas. I avoided the news this morning so I wouldn’t know the results. I log in and what’s at the top of the screen? “Indycar Texas Race Recap” with a picture of the winner. In a world where more and more people are watching things on demand, why can’t they not put spoilers on the main page? I’m glad a gave NBC a bunch of money to ruin races for me.
It’s a challenge.
I watch STL Cardinals on DVR, so I can’t follow any big posters on fb or twitter. I watch SEC football only an hour late, so not so bad. F1: none of my friends can spell it.
NASCAR: I don’t care about it the way I did, so I’m watching it later in the week; some redneck will say something about half the time or I’ll see the result online. No big deal: I skip past the stages and just watch the last bit as the entire race for my purposes.
ESPN+ pulls that shit on certain pages too. I had to train myself how to scroll past it, close my eyes at the right times, etc. If I was running that place I would launch a nuclear missile at every stupid recap “bit”.
I’m not a big follower of IndyCar anymore, but when I plugged in to get my annual fix in May, I saw a ton of mention of NBC gold. I used to be able to stream the practices over YouTube, but it sounds like it got pushed to the pay app.
Worth it?
Also, we’ll be in indy next year for the 500. We should have a Glib meet up in the coke lot.
Oh and speaking of IndyCar, did you see that Mario put the 2 seater into the wall at Texas?
I did see that. If I knew up front I wouldn’t be injured, I’d love to be that rider. It’d be a much better story than just getting a normal ride from him.
Re: NBC Gold. I think it was worth the $50. You get every practice and qualifying all season. The races post within a hour or so after they finish. I watched the Month of May coverage all day at work while reading Glibs, much better than working. They have done a few things that have gotten under my skin. They claimed all qualifying coverage live, but they didn’t do Day 2 of qualifying because it was on NBC instead of NBCSN. A bit of false advertising there. I complained and they pulled the “it’s in you user agreement” and I’m sure it is. But, that’s not what they led on with the advertising. Also, I’m not too happy with the spoiler mentioned above. But, I still think it’s an overall value if you enjoy racing.
I’m at the 500 every year, we’ll have to have a meetup and possibly a beer or twelve.

But broader forces are at work, as well. Never before has a presidential primary opened with an incumbent president who is as loathed by Democrats as is Donald Trump — or who has so dramatically altered the policy landscape on issues ranging from climate change and health care to immigration and trade. At the same time, the president is famously disinterested in policy details.
For brooding Democrats, the primary field’s position papers are an emotional refuge — this summer’s dreamy must reads.
“I think that what is happening is the voters are taking the policy proposals as visions of hope after the 2½ years of Trump, where everything has been so negative, so horrific,” Ray Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, said. “Voters are starving for some positive, hopeful, aspirational things to look forward to.”

Is the Coke lot even still there? The last time I went down Georgetown I couldn’t even figure out where I was, except for the turn four stands.
It was still there in 2016 last time I went. We go on even years, but we missed 2018, so I haven’t been there since.
Definitely still there. I camped out this year (like most years) and the mud/debauchery combination was a sight to see. I’ve never seen so many drunk guys failing at pushing RV’s out of the mud. They do require a wristband to get into the lot now which is a huge safety improvement. It keeps the local riff raff from robbing and mugging
We should convince Brooks to write an article on his time in IndyCar. It’d be fascinating, and it would be the only article in glibs history with 100% standalone comments.

Agreed. Brooks, A few stories or opinions would always be appreaciated.
Threading fail, I meant to Brooks that comment, not reply to a different one.
I would love for this to be true. My path home after work goes through downtown Indy on I-65/70. About once a month Pence comes home for some fundraiser downtown and screws up traffic during rush hour each time. When I’m sitting still on the interstate due to Pence, I’m more tempted to vote for the democrat than ever before.

Texas can’t figure out what it stands for
The most inconsistent state in the Union can’t get its act together because liberty is just too hard a concept.
That’s wild. I’m surprised to see Virginia on there, too, almost as surprised to not see Maryland on the list.
Why don’t they just raise it to 26 nationwide?
It really bothers me how inconsistent the line for adulthood is. Either you’re an adult at 18 or you’re not. Status crimes due to age shouldn’t exist after 18.
(Full disclosure: I was arrested for the status crime of underage drinking when I was 19 and in college.)
The rise of college as just a few more years of HS is probably the main reason for this shit.
The single worst consequence of mandatory schooling is the progressively longer delay of adulthood. It used to be that 14 year olds were considered mature enough to marry, to work, and to live on their own. Now, 14 year olds are considered incompetent blobs for another 10 years.
Defenestrate most of the CDC. Tobacco use is not a communicable disease. And 18-20 year olds are not “young people”, they are adults. To deny or curtail a class of citizens, except upon conviction, is a clear cut 14A violation.
This meshes nicely with the idea that you’re not really an adult until you’re past your mid-20s, so it’s fine to be on your parents’ health insurance coverage and you can’t be expected to do things like pay off the student loans you’ve agreed to. It’s convenient that you’re adult enough to agree to said loans in the first place, or do stuff like vote for people who say they’ll get you off the hook for your $65k Art History degree, or join the military, though.
But you can try them as adults at 12, and let them sign up to get their asses shot off at 17.
Last year some kid shot a girl at a local middle school. He was 13. The local news nearly shit a brick that they couldn’t charge him as an adult. To the point that they wanted to have the legislature lower the age this year. I couldn’t believe all the people calling for his head. Maybe I’m the one who’s wrong. But, I don’t believe that the kid at 13 could fully understand the grasp of his actions.
You know how you feel about Texas?
I love Texas. But they’re idiots: instead of consistently standing for liberty, there’s this huge confusion of inconsistent laws and insane enforcement because no one will tell the church ladies to mind their own business (if you don’t like tobacco, like me, don’t indulge).
The is nothing so unmanly as talking in circles because you don’t know what you stand for. Texas is the best state, but it’s still a fraud. Grow a pair, you malt shop cowboys.
My impression of Texas from my limited time there is they love to pay lip service to liberty and conservatism. But, in reality they are run by several large cities, which means they love some good old fashioned statism. Maybe a little bit different version of statism from more progressive states, but the same tendencies. I would argue in practice they are a lot like Ohio.
Texas is going to be a blue state in the next decade, when the children of all the people that moved there in the last couple decades reach voting age.
It was getting really bad before we left. There were more CA plates than OK, and we were 40 miles from the OK border.
I’m hoping the next recession either makes it more palatable to buy a bigger house here in NoVa or clears out a large portion of the CA refugees in TX.
I spend a couple of decades in both Texas and Oklahoma
Oklahomans are much more polite and tolerant, but have worse politicians. I attribute that to OK having a full-time legislature, though this of course may be complete confirmation bias on my part.
Texans really don’t have much of a chance. The amount of pro-Texas propaganda there is breathtaking. It is to Texas what corruption is to NY, it’s the air that they breathe.
Yeah. Not quite the level of progressivism of Ohio, but a bunch more soconism. Texas is God, Guns, and Football. If somebody tries to attack one of those, they’re in for a bad time. Everything else is fair game.
As somebody who has lived in various parts of Indiana, Central Ohio, North Texas, Bay Area California, and now NoVa, I’d say that Texas was most like Indiana.
Of course standard anecdotal evidence disclaimers apply. I met a few thousand people in each of these states, so I try to avoid making too nuanced generalizations about each place.
I think Ohio’s saving grace is that when people flee the results of deep blue policies in NYC or California, Ohio will be low on their list due to the reputation as a boring and undesirable place to live.
(My own family came here from California when I was 3, but I think we’re an outlier. Whenever I tell this to anyone, their reaction is a confused face and, “What the hell are you doing here, then??”)
I have a lot of tangential connections to Texas through family and in-laws despite never living there myself and the idea of Texas holds a place in my heart. My grandfather desperately wanted to move to his dad’s place in Newton but died before he could sell my grandmother on the idea–she was desperately clinging to her own daydream of getting a nice place on the water up here and sailing again, I think. In the back of my mind I’ve thought of Texas as sort of a bulwark of liberty. There was a social conservatism that I was prepared to deal with because I figured the rugged individualism bit and all the open spaces would render that a moot point. But it seems like every other day they turn up the socon bit while backing off the liberty bit. At this rate, Texas is just going to be a Pat Robertson version of New York before too long.

perfectly put
Texas isn’t a free(er) place because it has a better class of politicians. It’s that way because their politicians don’t have as much authoritah as other states.
Finally: a Texan who stands for something
The fight began after the two started arguing over tacos.

TALL CANS !
I had a drinking problem last night . . I spilled my beer. It’s ok though, I had more in the fridge.

I’m not sure why he thought the law applied to cops.

Fuckers tell us if you’ve done nothing wrong you have nothing to hide, but they want to hide everything.
Sigh. I can’t wait to contribute to yet another settlement.
I don’t know if this story has made the rounds here yet but who’s ready for a good nut punch?

What the hell New York?
New York
Much of the country is broken: many states, many demographics.
People prefer police to freedom. There would be no groundswell for a national candidate who ran on less government and personal accountability.
You are unfortunately correct.
America began its decline when the Frontier closed. As soon as people lost a place to escape to when the majority disapproved of them, the great experiment of liberty hit its expiration date.
Government needs to come off all the federal land out west.
so getting people to fuck off and mind their own business is never going to happen
Scott Peterson will protect you.
I would say this is down to NYC controlling the state government. The area this happened in is probably up in arms (!) over this.
Yup. If I shoot an intruder with a rifle or shotgun, I may be in trouble since NYS has a duty to retreat. But if I use a handgun I am an automatic felon, since my handgun permit does not have a “self defense” endorsement. I should be able to get one of those in October.
as a wise man once wrote: I recognize the words, but they make no sense.
I’m no lawyer, but I did learn to read. Shouldn’t this law cover that?
Duty to Retreat is one of the most bullshit, immoral things that has ever been allowed to exist.
The legal status of self-defense in that state is a big reason I would never consider moving there or even visiting. Not the only reason, but probably 50% of it. I know people love other things about NYC, and I’m not trash-talking their preference, but I just couldn’t do it.
It’s NY. I wonder when upstate NY will move to secede from NYC. And the DA excusing the burglar’s motive. Yeesh.
I can assure everyone with 100% certainty that the state of NY will never charge me with shooting anyone.
Not Adahin,
Your fingerprint contamination story make me angry. There are enough things that can go wrong in a technology and process without having to hunt down a lazy tech’s fingerprints.
While they didn’t fingerprint anyone, they wouldn’t have needed to. There would have been enough of a process trial to figure out who would had access to it and when.
I agree, the amount of work than goes into tracing down and correcting a yield issue can be huge. The cost of the time, resources, and yield loss can easily exceed the yearly salary of a tech.
Try tracking down who broke a piece of construction equipment on any given job
Hrmm… I’ve been trying to avoid pre-orders, but CDProjekt Red has been good so far…
