Five hours of back-to-back(-to-back-to-back) meetings. I’m hungry, near comatose, and grumpy. How the hell are each and every one of you?
Angela Merkel appears to be the next hostess for the Elder God’s parasite.
Nebraska school district to start randomly testing students for nicotine. Fuck off, slavers!
Only 12 light years to Planet Libertopia. Let’s go! At least we won’t be here.
I’ll be taking a leave of absence to do this job. If picked, I’ll obviously be sporting glibs wear in all videos.
Instead of our usual video clip, we’re promoting a BBC feature on MAGA prime. The best, classiest hat to ever perch atop the Hair.
Better than paying to eat ribs like I do now like a sucker.
Pappi’s is the best.
I had a neighbor who, to this day, consistently makes the best ribs I’ve ever had.
Heh. I live in one of the BBQ Meccas and have tried all the famous ones and around half of the rest and to this day the best burnt ends I’ve ever had were made by some regular schmo in his dingy backyard smoker.
I don’t need to travel around to find the best ribs. I already make them
Nicotine? Who fucking cares?
But the kids, they might be vaping or, even worse, smoking. If fundamentally violating their right to privacy keeps even one innocent child from taking up those horrendous habits it’s all worth it.
On the other hand, it’s none of their damn business if it isn’t on school grounds.
Your 13 year old wants to fuck, get pregnant, and have abortions? None of anybody’s business.
Your 17 year old wants to vape? Call in the jackboots, there’s skulls to crack, arrests to be made, people to be surveilled.
We, as a society, have completely lost our minds.
Have we though? In my day to day I’m not running into these nuts. These things make the news because they are unusual. At least I hope so.
As far as your 13 year old daughter goes, that’s pretty much the law, and public schools provide no end of support and thus encouragement.
Its illegal in most states to sell vaping gear or supplies to minors. Thus, the jackboots.
I’m not describing outliers; this is the baseline, the default.
I meant the random drug testing, not the age requirements.
I just saw a few reports in my local news pushing the vaping epidemic scare. Today also happens to voting day for my city’s next leftist mayor. Once whichever of these two candidates wins(the only discernable differences are through identity politics. (one’s a suave, grifting black guy, the other a chubby, lesbian white woman) I fully expect one of their first crusades to be to call for mandatory drug/nicotine testing on all students within the school district.
The marching orders have been issued, the national push has begun. Expect to hear similar stories from hundreds of school districts over the next few years.
VA just increased nicotine product purchases to 21+. Fuck off, slavers.
And YouTube has been pushing anti-vaping ads. Why? Who gives a shit?
Have you tried to smoke a cigarette close to the entryway of a public building recently?
I don’t smoke, but point taken.
Don’t forget dipping and other manners of smokeless tobacco consumption.
When I was in high school, using any tobacco product was supposed to lead to a week suspension. No one gave a shit, half the boys in class had a ring worn into the back pocket of their jeans where they carried their tin of Copenhagen.
It wouldn’t have taken Sherlock Holmes to figure out which kids were dipping and which weren’t.
There was a whole lotta dipping going on in high school baseball, that’s for damned sure. Hell, we even had a guy whose nickname was The Bandit because he always had a lip full of Skoal.
Like the ring in your billfold at 14, so your buds would think you were doing “it”
Maybe I’ve dated myself, perhaps the ladies in more modern times have discovered the mysteries of chemistry.
I can’t keep up.
What happens if nicotine isn’t uncovered but other things. INTERVENTION! Need more social(ist) workers. Call Starbucks!
Nicotine is the gateway drug to caffeine.
My high school in SoCal, Tustin HS, had an outdoor smoking section. They didn’t check anyone’s ID. I graduated in ’88.
Mine had a smoking section as well (’85). With ashtrays. No one gave a shit.
Also class of ’88 and smoking was strictly verboten.
Not in college, though. I remember walking down the halls and smoking. That ended probably around 1990.
My high school in the Bay Area had “stoners’ corner”, though they really only smoked cigarettes there. My kids were blown away when I told them that we could smoke at school. I never did, but I could have.
We had a place like that when I was in Junior High in the late ’70s. In high school, it was known as the parking lot.
SLO senior high had an unofficial area that you could smoke in, and I graduated in ’89
Los Alamos High School had a designated smoking area when my daughters attended, 2000-ish. One of the parents at the school board meeting asked, “Where is the designated heroin injection location?”
“Nebraska school district to start randomly testing students for nicotine.”
Why do we have taxes paying for public schools?
Third!
To provide jobs for Administrators.
Isn’t it cruel to inflict jobs on leftists? Remember their funemployment when Obama was president? latimes.com/local/la-me-funemployment4-2009jun04-story.html
Tired, trying to get sleep schedule back on track. Need to clean out my car after the road trip.
Le sigh.
When I was stationed in Okinawa, there was a mini-bus that was constantly being sold from on guy to another in the squadron as they rotated back to the states. The best part about that car was that it was all metal and vinyl inside, so you just had to open the two panel doors and hose everything out. After a weekend it was always in dire need of a good hosing.

Educrats looking for an excuse to expel problem children. Those tests will not be administered randomly.
Good idea. Public schools are prisons of indoctrination run by unionized government slavers, so the kids who get expelled are better off running free. Right?
As long as they aren’t depending on any educational certificates to become gainfully employed.
No, no, no. Off to the special school where smoking is allowed, where the girls are pregnant and the truants come and go as they please. Have to be in class for 2nd period ’cause that’s when roll call is taken, heads are counted and aid money paid.

This administration has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying.
This is not hyperbole. It is the conclusion of expert analysis
Now do prisons
You misspelled twat…it’s the people that buy this nonsense that are the twits. She knows exactly what she’s doing.
My favorite Trump is when he continues the policies of his predecessors and all of a sudden people are scandalized (after ignoring all this). This is honestly the best argument to vote for Trump this time around. Without him, there would never be push back on any of these policies or any policy at all, if we’re being honest.
In an alternate universe, MSNBC is praising President Hillary Clinton for being bold on illegal immigration
Let’s have another big argument over semantics without addressing any real issues. Nice.
So the perfect sort of debate for our time?
Yes. That’s all we have anymore. Not, “What are the pros and cons of Idea A vs idea B?” Instead, it’s an endless stream of “AHA! GOTCHA!”
She’s not saying they are death camps, she’s just saying they are concentration camps which will ultimately lead to death camps. She’s not saying Trump is Hitler, just that he hasn’t grown a mustache yet.
It’s still a stupid analogy.
I only glanced at the article she linked and immediately hit these two whoppers:
Bullshit spread by The Guardian.
AFAICT these are already not valid reasons for granting asylum.
That peace index thing said Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala were all more peaceful than the U.S. No asylum for you!
Here’s Nat Geo on climate change migrants from Guatemala. Tucked away in an article totally attributing all the migration to climate change is this:
Totally lacking: any kind of context on what historical climate variability has been. I know for a fact that, bad as the recent drought in the Western US has been, it is overshadowed by two droughts in 20th century. Even the supposed local expert can’t be arsed to point to anything other than his personal experience.
This is not hyperbole.
She is right. It is a bald-faced lie.

I recently “won” a long running fight with my contractor. I’m not really sure what to do with my time now that I don’t have an enemy to destroy. I thought I would be relieved/happy, but mostly I’m just bored now.
Is that like “winning” a fight with your wife?
The contractor probably won’t fuck him again, yes.

I’m negotiating with cell phone carriers. So I’ll trade that for your meetings.
What are you looking for?
I’ve been on Verizon for years but the bills have gotten absurd (18 lines). Nevermind that they’re wholly incapable of getting my account management set up properly (I once received a $13,000 monthly bill from them).
T-Mobile’s coverage in our area seems to be sufficient now and they are far more aggressive on pricing.
Cell phone contracts are like marriage. You and T-Mobile are in the courtship phase. T-Mobile is whispering sweet nothings into your ear about how great it would be to get hitched and how nothing will ever be bad again.
Six months after you sign that contract, they’ll be busting your chops big time. And if you complain, they will laugh and tell you to try to leave them, but be prepared to pay.
I’m not defending Verizon, they are just as big a battle axe as anyone. I’m just pointing out that no carrier is worth a shit.
I’m well aware. At this point, I’m just eager to stick it to Verizon and save several thousand dollars a year.
T-Mobile has the highest customer satisfaction, fwiw.
I am still amazed that people with two lines still pay Verizon $150+ a month.
Wife and I have had good service and low rates with TMobile for 15? years or so. If their merger goes through things will go to shit as competition is reduced.
I use Ting that someone mentioned a while back. Under 20 bucks a month – great if you have low usage like me.
We switched to cricket a year or so back. $70/month for 2 lines and all the data we would ever care to use. More importantly, it is on the ATT towers, which are the only ones with good coverage around our house.
18 lines? Don’t you have an account rep to help you?
We have less than that and still get personalized service from a rep.
One of my main complaints has been that the account rep changes every three months.
To be fair, do you really want someone so dumb they stick with Verizon for more than 3 months working on your account?
My dad worked for New York Telephone for 31 years, although that was several iterations before Verizon.
T-Mobile has a come a long way in quality and coverage.
How to get there using free-market spacecraft?
“Liberate” them and seek forgiveness if they catch us?

I have a feeling it can’t be done. I hope I’m wrong, but the vastness of space and the energy required is insurmountable, I fear.
That corn husker principle sounds tough now. But what will he say when Jimmy Chitwood says he won’t play if he can’t vape?
I play, the vaping stays. It goes, I go.
I thought you said Joie Chittwood. My crew of friends use this guy’s name to describe when you are driving recklessly.

That’s awesome! One of my earliest memories was of going to a car show like that. Afterwards I bugged my dad for weeks to try to drive the car on two wheels.
That is who came to mind for me as well. I saw his show at my local fairgrounds circa 1978.

I saw my first MAGA hat in the wild a few weeks ago. It was worn by a short, middle-aged, overweight, homely-looking white dude. He was accompanied by a taller, younger, attractive looking Hispanic lady. I’m guessing that Trump is that man’s spirit animal.
That was the actual Hat, stepping out. Details in a future H&H.

I’m afraid that millions of Americans share your feelings about the world today. We have a president who is a racist, sexist, homophobe, xenophobe, religious bigot, and a pathological liar. That’s enough to get anyone upset about the state of affairs in this country.
BUT there are some wonderful things happening that you should feel good about. We’re seeing teachers standing up for their students, women demanding the right to control their own bodies, young people taking on the fossil fuel industry and combating climate change and workers fighting for $15 an hour and the right to a union. We do not have the luxury of throwing up our hands in despair. The future of the planet, the future of our country, the future of American democracy rests on the American people to stand up, fight back and make a political revolution. Despair is not an option.
Dude can type fast.
teachers standing up for their students
I’m assuming he’s talking about some of the teacher strikes that have happened (OK, WV?) recently. I’m going to start telling people that I’m “standing up for students” too next time I shake down my boss for a raise.
$90K in debt while using the GI Bill and the Army College Fund?? this screams fraud.
Hi Senator Sanders,
I amassed over 90k in student loan debt while using the GI Bill and the Army College Fund. The college I went to has been closed down by the Department of Education for being predatory and lying to students. Now I effectively have no degree that holds water (it was a BS in video game design), and I’m struggling to pay back the loans and I’ll probably spend the rest of my life paying off my college instead of growing a family and buying a house. Do you have plans to help someone like me?.
this fucker has been helped enough.
My daughter went to a coding bootcamp for about $6K (she also got some scholarship money) and got a job working in the industry about 4 months after she started the bootcamp. (she also combined that with an AA from a community college).
No way you can spend $90K + GI Bill + Army College Fund for a BS in video game design.
Also, who cares if you college folds after you have your first job. Once you start accruing work experience, no one cares about where you went to school. The only reason I ever looked at the education info on someone’s resume was to verify that they didn’t go to Duke.
Times I have been asked my college GPA in a job interview (though I worked through college): Zero.
Trump nominee suddenly remembers that he has skeletons
Shanahan pulled himself out of the running (for Secretary of Defense) as media organizations including The Washington Post published reports shedding light for the first time on details of Shanahan’s contentious divorce, including a 2010 domestic abuse allegation and his role in an incident in which his son attacked his ex-wife with a baseball bat.
I don’t see a problem here. He should just announce he likes beer or simply as was that wrong?
Anyone following the Kim Dotcom thing? He’s in the NZ supreme court fighting extradition to the US for MegaUpload. His argument is that what he did is not illegal in NZ, therefore he should not be extradited. The US lawyers say it doesn’t matter if it’s illegal in NZ or not.
I’m not sure they want to open that can of worms. Wouldn’t that mean that Iran could demand extradition of US citizens for breaking their blasphemy laws? Because fuck that.
Nah, only the US gets to bully the rest of the world.
Bingo.
“We do what we want” is the US government’s unofficial motto
congrats on your logic, principles, and consistency
you are hereby disqualified from running for public office or having a job in media
That is the nicest thing anyone’s said to me all week.
Does Iran have hundreds of military bases scattered around the world? Nope? Then they aren’t really able to demand anything. International law is a fraud.
Has it ever not been?
Also if we need “international bodies” to save us from US hegemony then won’t those bodies need large militaries to enforce their will?
yeah but
when you live a tiny pile of goat sheep shit on an unfindable patch of ocean on the wrong side of the planet, can’t you pretty much give everyone the bird ?
Not if you want help when China annexes your territory
When you have the largest military in the world you can push your weight around.
It’s different when we do it.
I think it depends on whether he is a citizen of New Zealand and whether his alleged crimes were committed within the jurisdiction of the US. A lot of countries have mutual extradition treaties so that people can’t flee the justice system from one to the other. And nations are generally more eager to protect their own citizens from extradition than they are foreigners.
I’m not even sure it was illegal here, though I’m sure that won’t stop them from throwing him in jail anyway.
Uffda. Looks like Minnesoda is reviving a shitty program after years of neglect.
I hate programs that take money from the general fund and distribute that money to smaller localities. It helps those cities and counties think that they are getting something for nothing and leads to all sorts of wasteful spending. The locals know they’d never get their constituents to agree to these boondoggles, but if it looks like it was all done with “free” money from St. Paul? Well then, go for it.
“Trump raised my State taxes!11”
Prediction: the Kochs are going to openly donate to Biden’s campaign in the general election.
Not that much different from Romney, although, a lot of the same reasons why libertarians didn’t like Romney are true for Biden too.
Nothing is finer than that sweet sweet respectability earned from a corrupt elite.
I’m waiting for the “Biden is a lying weathervane but that means he is a secret libertarian” arguments that we got from the Obama libertarians.
I’ve said this several times, but I do not begrudge any libertarian who voted for Obama in 2008. 2012 was a completely different matter. If you call yourself a libertarian and you voted for Obama in 2012 then you should reconsider what you actually believe
Apparently we are all supposed to love McCain now so I’m not sure how that works…
Sorry, if a libertarian voted for Obama, given all the information available about his past, then they’re an idiot.
“Obama libertarians”
*facepalm*
Or as I like to refer to them – closet pinkos.
That’s unfair to weathervanes, they provide a service. Also, windsock sounds more degrading.

“A Hawaii Democrat’s Surprising Views
Tulsi Gabbard opposes impeachment and dislikes identity politics. And she’s running for president.”
FTA:
“The whole reason the Mueller investigation started was to investigate collusion,” she said in an interview between recent campaign stops in Manhattan. The special counsel “was very clear in his report that there was no evidence found that collusion took place.” But she is at pains to distinguish her reasoning from that of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose reticence about impeachment, Ms. Gabbard says, is rooted in partisan calculation: “That’s exactly what people are sick and tired of.”
Ms. Gabbard, who represents Hawaii’s Second District, also doesn’t belabor her sex, her ethnic background (Samoan) or her religion (Hindu). “I think identity politics, again, is one of those things that is unfortunately being used to divide us. . . . [it’s] a dangerous road to walk down,” Ms. Gabbard told me in a podcast interview, lamenting fellow Democrats and the media for often treating Americans “as though we are the sum of the color of our skin.”
Since she launched her campaign in January, liberal media outlets have scorned her. NBC News published an article alleging that she had the backing of “Russia’s propaganda machine.” The Daily Beast charged that she was being “boosted by Putin apologists.”
But she’s found support from a popular alternative-media figure, Joe Rogan, who has hosted Ms. Gabbard twice on his video and audio podcast—consistently a top-ranked offering on YouTube and iTunes. Like Ms. Gabbard, Mr. Rogan is politically heterodox. He’s endorsed libertarian Republican Ron Paul, shuns ideological labels, and has a following among right-leaning listeners.”
Unpopular opinion: Tulsi Gabbard is more an heir to Ron Paul than Justin Amash, because Gabbard challenges her party when they align with the foreign policy establishment, whereas Amash seems to want to challenge his party when they don’t align with the foreign policy establishment (at least now, he does).
Disagreed, but only because of her awful domestic policy opinions. Limited to the foreign policy world, I’d agree.
I find anti-war libertarianism ironic in light of the American Revolution, Glorious Revolution and The Dutch Revolt all benefitted from foreign military backing.
The French didn’t help America so they could “spread democracy”. They did it for themselves.
Yep. And if they had any foreknowledge to the long term results of America’s independence and the direct correlation to their own aristocracy’s demise I’m guessing they would have been more than happy to attend to other matters while England crushed its unruly colonies.
Wouldn’t be the first or last time that foreign intervention was done for self-interested reasons.
The Glorious Revolution was bloodless and it was a coup instigated by Parliament in consul with a foreign power to usurp the legitimate heir to the throne, because they were religious bigots. Not much to celebrate.
I find non-antiwar libertarians to be contradictory. I’m still baffled that people think that you can shrink government domestically while maintaining the beast that keeps big government funded.
People have always had strange combinations of views. David Lloyd-George was a crypto-socialist and warmonger yet was an avid free-trader. Or slobbering over the “LIberal World Order” yet engaging in tirades about the Privileged Cis Het White Men who built said order.
And anti-war libertarians have always had to deal with communists and fascists who oppose war because they like those regimes being warred against or blame it all on capitalism and how communism will lead to world peace.
Rothbard allied with the New Left in the 60’s and with Pat Buchanan in the 90’s, but both times for the same reason. The notion that antiwar anything can be selective about who it allies with is farcical. Opposition to foreign conflict is the ultimate blasphemous position and is unwelcome in every corner of “respectable society”.
So at what point does being libertarian become more important than opposing war? Is the Green New Deal an acceptable trade-off? Not to mention plenty of people have been opposed to war until they come to power.
Also in Canada free-trade has traditionally been attacked as a prelude to American Annexation. However since Trump hates NAFTA then Free-trade is wonderful.
There is a reason why Ayn Rand’s writings are more welcome within conservative circles than Murray Rothbard or even Karl Hess (who literally wrote “Conscience of a Conservative”).
However Rothbard’s views lead to rather questionable ideas like rejoicing at the victory of the Khmer Rouge or ignoring Khomeini’s authoritarianism.
And that’s why conservatives are more accepting of Rand?
You’re *so* close. Keep thinking
Also anti-war libertarians tend to support the nationalism of those countries that the US is against despite nationalism being bad apparently.
This literally makes no sense. Asking people to consider why the Iranians would rally around the Ayatollah in the face of American aggression is not to justify their position or to support Iranian nationalism. It’s a request that people think rationally and assume that their adversaries are also rational human beings.
Being an anti-war libertarian myself (I know I know don’t say it) I am not exactly anti-war. I am anti-non-selfdefense. Anti-adventurism.
When someone can explain to me what we have gotten out of our many wars in the ME, how we have defended our own country I will be all in but every time I ask I get crickets.
If someone actually attacks us in a serious way I will take up the rifle myself. Hell, nuke ’em. But that hasn’t happened.
meet you at the border
You have a good point.
Don, the problem is that the problem is not at the border. I am not gonna shoot women and children. Someone is orchestrating this invasion. We need to find out who that is. I suspect strongly that they are north of the border.
There’s no question in my mind that there is a massive criminal conspiracy behind these “migrations”. Its a real shame we don’t have a competent criminal investigative agency in this country to run it down and stop it.
But, here we are. I wish I could remember who said “Americans get a lot less government than they pay for, and a lot more than they need.”
Self-defense goes without saying. We’re not pacifists. We just don’t get stiffies over unnecessary wars (of which 99% of all wars that the US has ever engaged in have been).
Sounds more or less like me.
We should have overthrown the Taliban in Afghanistan.
We should not have stuck around pretending there was any possibility that Afghanistan could become anything but a failed state. We should have stayed out of Iraq.
We should have pulled out of Europe when the Soviet Union collapsed.
Here’s the answer I always get: “If we don’t fight them there, we’ll have to fight them here.”
When I respond, “Where’s their Navy and Air Force?”I get puzzled looks, then a bunch of stuff about YouTube and terrorism.
Well, Eric Dondero did warn us that if anyone anti-war won the election, Al Queda would be launching Scud missiles into Texas from Mexico*
* This is not hyperbole. He actually wrote that in rebuttal to my argument that the GWOT was making America not only less free but also less safe.
DONDEROOOOOOOOO!!!!
Damn, that made me feel nostalgic.
I’m skeptical of the whole “blowback” theory. And my sympathies probably fall more closely to the traditional geopolitical realist school of thought. But, at this point in history, is there really a fundamental difference between a principled anti-interventionist and a traditional geopolitical realist? The consensus across the major parties is so overwhelmingly hyper-interventionist that the distinctions between the two schools of thought are mostly arguing about how much drastically less intervention and world policing they advocate.
Blowback is a bit er… overblown. Why aren’t Filipinos, Japanese, Germans. Taiwanese or South Koreans blowing up Americans? And it seems to be arbitrarily limited. Khomeini is blowback for the ouster of Mossadegh but wasn’t that blowback from WWII and so on? Pretty much everything could be called blowback to the Civil War for example…
I look at Hawaii’s gun laws and that tells me all I need to know.
I will write an apologia for Tulsi Gabbard and you will be so moved that you will vote in the Democratic Primary for the hottest woman in Congress. This I swear
She’s an enthusiastic gun controller and a supporter of the Green New Deal. I’ll vote for the reanimated corpse of Richard Nixon before I vote for her.
You would vote for Nixon over Tulsi? I would hope that’s hyperbole.
The man who closed the gold window, instituted wage and price controls, created the EPA, began the War on Drugs, and passed gun control (not to mention his foreign policy) is simply terrible by comparison.
Shhh. Don’t light the Hyperbole signal.
From what I can tell, the only reason Gabbard wouldn’t close the gold window is because she can’t.
The two big legacy items on foreign policy for Nixon are (a) getting us out of Viet Nam and (b) starting to normalize relations with China. I bet you would agree those are better than keeping us in Viet Nam and refusing to normalize relations with China.
I don’t think starting the EPA is comparable to the Green New Deal, which is far worse.
I honestly think that Gabbard, with a Dem Congress, would be worse for this country than Nixon was. However, I look forward with interest to your post on Tulsi; I don’t know a lot about her positions except she’s anti-war, anti-guns, and sure seems anti-free market.
In other words, there’s still a chance
I’m not ruling it out entirely, true. If someone worse than the reanimated corpse of Nixon takes out Trump in the primaries, and the Libertarian Party continues to be a bad joke played on dimwits by grifters, then I’d consider it.
I don’t know a lot about her positions except she’s anti-war, anti-guns, and sure seems anti-free market.
1 for 3 is… Better than some? Sorry, but I can’t help but damn with faint praise if that’s accurate. I’m sure she’s pro infanticide, too, which is an immediate “no” vote for me.
Shhh. Don’t light the Hyperbole signal.
That seems unnecessarily harsh. It’s not like I’m Winston or that other asshole.
“…that other asshole.”
I hope you are referring to me.
b) starting to normalize relations with China. I bet you would agree those are better than keeping us in Viet Nam and refusing to normalize relations with China.
A couple years ago I’d agree, but after Hong Kong, I think the US fucked up by throwing Taiwan under the bus and now it’s too late to fix it. It’s only a matter of time until China swallows Taiwan.
Normalizing relations with China should have included recognition of Taiwan as an independent & sovereign country (in exchange for Taiwan releasing like claims on the mainland) and either Taiwan remaining on the Security Council or the China seat going away. Of course, Kai-shek would never have given up claims to the mainland so moot.
Nixon is dead. How much damage can he do now?
Seriously, Apologist, write a post. You never know, Tulsi might be the first Dem Presidential candidate I would vote for.
I’ve voted D once. For a local election, for a neighbor, and in a race where he had no chance. I’d rather sit out then vote D in any substantial race.
That isn’t a denial that you’d ever vote for her under any circumstances. You’re leaving the door cracked open a few nanometers. In other words, there’s still a chance… 😉
I’ll never vote for her. She is kinda hot, though.
You’ve convinced me that she’s the best Democrat in the field, and she very well might be the “hottest woman in Congress”, but I don’t think I want in on that primary.
The fact that she got you to stop changing your name is also a plus. Just Sayin’.
Is she a state rep? No? Then she has nothing to do with state law.
I am aware of that but the taint is there.
Just check her campaign page. She co-sponsors lots and lots of gun control bills.
Sponsor away, it’s not going to make any difference. See how successful Obama was.
My thought is, it’s a moot point because she’ll be knocked out of the Team Blue competition very, very early. But… if a miracle happened and she were the Team Blue nominee, I’d vote for her, assuming the Libertarians do their usual fine job of nominating a poor candidate. Of the 6 issues that are most important to me (forever war, war on drugs, domestic spying, carceral state, 2A rights, economic liberty), she mostly satisfies 4 of them. Trump satisfies one.
Supreme Court? Better argument, since Gorsuch has turned out to be pretty good. Kavanaugh is a disaster. So it’s a push for me.
the 6 issues that are most important to me
If your bride is ever looking for a good topic for a poll article, this is one.
Excellent thought!
Apparently I haven’t paid enough attention to Kavanaugh.
I am one of those moron single-issue voters. I am a 2A absolutist. Looking at someone’s stance on the 2nd tells me what they think about the citizenry, about me. I don’t usually need to look beyond that. She isn’t good on the 2nd then she gets my thumbs down. That’s not to say I m pleased with Trump.
Re Supreme Overlord:
2A
2A
2A
2A
2A
2A
(forever war, war on drugs, domestic spying, carceral state, 2A rights, economic liberty)
She’s pretty bad on 2A and economic liberty; worse than Trump. Sponsoring gun control bills shows pretty strong agreement with them, more so than voting for them.
On domestic spying, its a little early to say. Trump may still mount a punitive raid on the deep state over their domestic spying. We’ve been disappointed before, but this time its personal, and Trump’s just the guy to turn a personal issue into a major public blowup.
Trump has disappointed on forever war – he hasn’t started anything new, but he has also let himself be muscled by the pro-war deep state. I have to wonder whether Tulsi will be any more successful.
My concern with Tulsi and the deep state is that she loves her some big, powerful government. I don’t see any principled opposition to the deep state. If its just tactical, then I’m not expecting much from her on any kind of rollback of what they do.
The WOD may be the only issue where, at this point, I can give her a clear advantage over Trump.
I haven’t really noticed much of what Kav has done yet. Vague recollection that he squished out on a case or two. The big cases are still coming, though. I’m prepared to be disappointed. What Trump and McConnell are accomplishing in the judiciary in the District and Appellate courts may be as much a legacy as his SCOTUS appointments.
Kavanaugh’s ruling this week on double jeopardy may still be grating on me.
If I can get some computer time tonight, I’m gonna toss together a summary of this SCOTUS term to date to see how KaV and Gor are doing.
That would be great! I have my own views, but not nearly the legal background needed to do a real analysis.
“Kavanaugh’s ruling this week on double jeopardy may still be grating on me.”
Ok, now that you mention it…
*feels face turning hot*
I’d forgotten about that one.
That sounds like an excellent post, SUPREME.
Oooh, Gabbard’s taint….
I’ll be in my bunk.
She’s good on the things mentioned above, but bad on a lot of other stuff. Still better than her peers in the primary, which means she doesn’t have a chance. And of course it goes without saying, but would.
Wow. Stay classy, media arm of the DNC.
It would be great if Trump dumped Pence and made Gabbard his running mate.
Finally, some religious freedom outrage that Proggressives can get behind!
Sounds like some Somali gal gave the high hat to some native born black jailer and paid for it. She’s asking for $300K in her lawsuit.
The irony: the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty usually takes up these hijab cases. You might recall the Becket Fund for being labeled as “far right” by the corporate press, but their financial backers are better known: the evil Nazi Knights of Columbus. Ewwwwww
Al-Kadi said jail staff singled her out during a pat-down search
I seriously doubt they book anybody into jail without a pat-down. So I seriously doubt she was singled out.
and forced her to remove the hijab in front of male officers, which is against her beliefs.
As long as they have a policy which they apply consistently against headwear in the jail, she doesn’t have a case.
Probably singled out as the one person wearing something on her head.
A winning strategy.
Biden was among several 2020 Democrat presidential contenders at a presidential forum in Washington, D.C., where “low-income Americans” asked the candidates questions about their plans to address racism and poverty.
“How are we going to immediately and fully — not incrementally — eliminate poverty,” one of the panelists asked Biden.
“Number one — we have the greatest income inequity in the history of the United States of America since 1902,” Biden began. “And the fact of the matter is, there is plenty –plenty! — of money to go around. The first thing I would do as president is eliminate the president’s tax cut,” Biden vowed.
Actually I’d prefer to keep the 150 or so dollars that the government is no longer stealing from me every month.
So much for Joe Biden being a secret libertarian…
“…there is plenty –plenty! — of money to go around.”
Now he is plagiarizing Hugo Chavez? Good grief.
we have the greatest income inequity in the history of the United States of America since 1902
He really is brain-damaged, isn’t he?

None of us. All our underground tunnels are dug by orphans.
I read that as “Millionaire in prison for having 9 year olds dig secret tunnels under his home”, which sounds more plausible.
Go big or go home.

I know that Gulag Barbi has great tits but that doesn’t make up for her being an evil shitweasel commie. We need to ship her sorry ass off to Venezuela for a year or so.
They can keep her:)
Boris Johnson has moved one step closer to becoming Prime Minister of the UK. The second round of voting was held today, and he increased his support to 126 votes (40%) among the Conservative MPs, with the closest challenger receiving 46 (15%). Thursday will be the final round of MP voting, after which they send the top two choices to the party members for final selection.
He’ll get fucked by the Party.
Yeah, as I understand it everyone left in his party is a Remainer.
Yeah, I have no idea how the 100,000 dues paying members of the party lean, but it looks almost certain that the MPs are going to send Johnson to them as one of the two choices. If we have any UK Glibs, it would be interesting to hear their perspective.
Samizdata is pretty good on Brit politics. Haven’t checked them in awhile, might be something there.
Did you post there back in the day, or was that just another Will Smith fan?
That was me. First appearance with this handle. That goes way back.
Only 12 light years to Planet Libertopia.
Bah! Damned Earthlings wouldn’t let Planet Libertopia alone. They’d send their functionaries to spoil the whole thing.
Communism can only work if there is no place to flee too.
I think Timothy Zahn wrote a pretty good book about a libertarian planet that the Earth/UN tried to bring under its thumb. Nasty guerrilla war and [SPOILER REDACTED].
I bought a replacement projector for the one that was suffering color separation. I figured that the throw rate was close enough to not bother measuring whether I needed to move the ceiling mount.
Well, you know what they say about assuming. Now I have a 125″ picture on my 100″ screen. Oops!
Killer picture though.
Did you check the thermostat?
I did, it said 69.
Niiiiice
Of course it was Australia.

Gah!!
I am hearing more and more reports of people going to the DR and getting very sick. Nine dead now.
I am trying to figure out how to give people advice on this but I am not sure it would do any good.
DR?
Dominican Republic
Diphtheria Ranch
Don’t go to the DR?
Seriously, what more advice is needed at this point?
If you have to tell them…
Don’t drink the liquor from the hotel. It looks like they bought liquor adulterated with isopropyl alcohol. But like 30% isopropyl. That would fit the symptoms and be poisonous at 6-8 drinks for people. Vomiting, then respiratory failure.
Or, just don’t go.
^^^ I’m with this. Plenty of non-shithole places with sun and beaches.
I am skeptical. Isopropyl alcohol has a strong very bad taste. It is pretty hard to miss. Contrary to what is usually said about deaths during prohibition here the majority were from ethylene glycol (old car radiators used as condensers in stills) and not isopropyl alcohol.
Theories:
A) Serial killer
B) Contaminated bootleg booze – so far looks like insecticide, hard to see how that could be accidental.
C) Some other place competing for tourists poisoning booze
Is this one specific hotel or resort?
Seems to be two different hotels. Some old fashioned police work could solve this in a day. Somebody knows what is going on. The way the govt there is behaving makes me think they know and are trying to keep a lid on it, which is really dumb.
From what I understand, the hotels are right next to each other and are owned by the same parent company.
Ah. It seems like a list of the employees would be of interest. Perhaps someone could take a look at who may have worked at both locations.
Just a thought.
Time to rock n’ roll with Titty Tuesday.

I keep hearing people from the other parts of the anglosphere (not the US) talk about how they have freedom of speech. I don’t think the words they are using mean what they think they mean.
You know, the freedom to use right speech, not icky wrong speech, that’s slavery, not free speech.
Did anyone mention the kid who got 4 years for calling Harry a race traitor?
Pretty sure you could murder someone there and get a lighter sentence.
Or run a rape gang specializing in underage girls.
*not my country but that really makes me want to put a bullet in someone…starting with the cops that enabled it to happen*
It hasn’t stopped.
So, I’ve been playing a silly game on my tablet called College Football Coach via the Google Play Store. Basically you’re the head coach of a D1 football team and are in charge of recruiting, depth charts, disciplinary actions for your players, setting up your offensive and defensive philosophies in relation to your opponent’s on a game to game basis, and you’re giving the option to leave the school for a better job or if you fail, get fired. You don’t control anything during the game but, your decisions leading up to it affect it greatly.
I’ve already burned through a few careers but on this go-around I decided to take my first job at a shitty football program(130 to choose from), Old Dominion. After spending four years whipping that dumpster fire into a solid bowl team I took a job at Cal. Playa, you should be happy to know after firing the previous head coach for going 2-10 it took me four years to make them an eleven win, top twenty team.
I’ll keep you posted on upcoming scores. ;p
Can you bribe the players with hookers and blow? If not, I call fake.
Remember hire a well paid fall guy to bring in the big recruits with hookers and cocaine. All communication with him should be strictly professional to create plausible deniability.

Climate change made him angry.
It just thought the diver was Japanese and, like, totally into it, man.

“The Dream of the Diverman’s Thigh”
…I’m afraid to Google that…
Not so unusual for that species. They are…shall we say…aggressively friendly. Cool critters.
My wife is says that octopi are aliens. Rather she says they are the pets of aliens that visited us in ancient times and strayed from their owners and got left behind.
They have eyes nearly identical to human eyes but adjusted for seeing in water
They have copper based blood
They are smarter than most people
That looks delicious.
Meh. Octopus is kinda rubbery.
Try it chopped up. Takoyaki style. Serve with tall glass of icy cold beer. Make sure the beer is icy cold. And have like 3 glasses of icy cold beer with it. See? That sounds good, doesn’t it?
Nope.
Nope.
Nope.
?
I’ve had octopus three different ways; soup (stew?), breaded, and sushi-style. I love, love, love it.
So new York is going to start licencing doulas. Of course, now you have to take the approved trainings and pay the yearly renewal fees to the state.
Someone’s gotta pay for those free abortions.
I hope people don’t comply. There’s no danger in an unlicensed doula, the important parts of the job are not going to be learned at a seminar anyway.
Abortion doulas?
Those exist, I’d bet. There’s also such a thing as a death doula.
