Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas! And what a glorious morning it always is!
OJ Simpson allegedly threatened parody account on Twitter with knife emojis.

Ex FBI agent charged with perjury and evidence tampering in the case against former Missouri governor.
That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.
Mornin’ Banjos
Good morning Banjos.
Humph, the rest of us don’t garner a greeting huh?
Good morning Leon…. (psst… and Banjos!)
Morning SDF-7
You’re not a killer robot are ya?
Not that I know of… of course, I *would* say that…
Good morning Glibs!
Morning!
Good morning to you, fine sir (or madam or other).
Morning.
When you come up with interesting links, we’ll wish you a good morning.
“O.J. Simpson’s Twitter account allegedly sent a series of menacing direct messages — including a string of 16 knife emojis and the warning that “I WILL FIND YOUR ASS AND CUT YOU” — to a parody account that skewers the disgraced football star over his acquittal in the 1994 slayings of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.”
Who knows? It’s internet stuff.

Taking a step back i see the abortion/feminist debate is really about getting everyone to pay for women’s sexual flings.
>My body, my choice
>You should pay for my abortions no matter what
You can’t have it both ways, friends.
GOOD MORNING, Banjos! Hope you and yours have a pleasant Tuesday.

No responsibility and no accountability = Modern Feminism
And NYC spending.
Modern feminism is about government protecting them financially so they can go make bad decisions and because they avoid the consequences of said decisions, pretend they are strong and capable.
Good morning.
Is your husband OK? I haven’t seen so much as a comment in ages.
Banjos doesn’t have a husband.
It’s in the bio.
Hmm she ought to update that if she wants the rest of us to cover for her.
As usual, I’m confused.
Really poor joke about us covering for banjos killing sloopy
I’m not always up to speed on the inner workings here. Got a job and family, man!
Bigger question is if you are still sleeping on the couch, though…
Sloop gained a higher professional profile so he needed to step away from Glibs for obviously understandable reasons (or so I surmised).
So what you’re saying is, he’s too good for us now?
/Cathy Newman
Something like that. j/k
Most likely a time issue, considering that he doesn’t seem to hold back on Twitter.
So he’s ashamed of us? Or is this part of the new McCarthyism where he can’t have that good old guilt by association?
He is heavily overworked. But he is alive. He has made a few brief appearances at Glibs HQ.
Thanks for the update. Good luck, Sloopy.
He stumbled in, groped Warty and threw up in my trashcan. A thankfully brief appearance.
I’m still cleaning the puke out of my duvet.
Well that is better than the other way around.

She’s not a teen yet. When she is, I’ll trade her in on a newer model.
There’s really something sad about this throwaway culture of ours.
So my birthday was the 16th. I just want to thank TPTB for the box of swag. I had no idea that you guys did stuff like that. Thanks again!
You let people know when your birthday is? I keep mine quietly hidden away so people don’t pester me.
Happy birthday UCS
It’s not my birthday.
You’re just saying that to throw people off the track.
He doesn’t want the waitstaff to come over and sing to him.
I don’t blame him! I’ll forgo the free beverage on my birthday just to avoid that type of cringe.
Oh god this…. the Mexican restaurant we go to has a little birthday sombrero you wear, along with the singing.
Ah – no thanks!
EF has always threatened to send a singing messenger to me; but then she sees how pissed I get with the idea.
Years and years ago, I threatened my friends that if they came over to sing to me at the restaurant that I was leaving. They pointed out I didn’t drive. I told them I have feet and it wouldnt be more than a few hours home.
They realized I was serious at a certain point.
There are 366 potential values. Most guesses will be wrong.
But eventually one will be right.
Hmmm…he remembered to say 366, I think he narrowed it down for us.
Of course you’d deny it.
Then why are you posting in your birthday suit?
Eventually, it will be, so Happy Fucking Birthday!
Happy birthday. But I’d keep the swag thing on the DL, IYKWIM.
Hope you had a nice birthday, fellow Tulpa.
HBD!
While that might have been the end of his criminal problems, in March, he was indicted on 16 New York state felonies, including mortgage fraud and falsifying records to obtain millions of dollars in loans.
Take out trillions in loans from the Chinese and you are lauded for muh stimulus.
He’s a college “student”? OK, then and hopefully can get into a Master’s program, too.
Nah, those kids on the hook forever. Politicians just shrug and say, “Did what I thought was right.”
Ex FBI agent charged with perjury and evidence tampering in case against former Missouri governor.
Whaaaat? He had to do it to protect society from a monster. Order must be preserved at all costs. The end justifies the means.
And people keep telling me the FBI’s reputation must be saved… from Trump.
Twitter is the worst. Though none of this should even remotely count as “news”.
High school lunchroom backstabbing.
“There are an estimated 12 million immigrants who are in the United States illegally, mainly from Mexico and Central America.”
I’d figure there was more than that.
They never said what year the estimate was from.
I’ve read estimates closer to 30 million but everyone has an agenda these days so who knows?
So, 1 in 10-12 people in the US are illegal? I know 13 people (counting glibs), now I have to figure out which one is illegal.?
Why are so many staring at me when I go to Taco Bell or Walmart? Hmmm?
Illegals are not uniformly distributed. They tend to cluster in states with generous benefits, lax enforcement and pre-exisitng communities of migrants.
You’ve described our states as well as can be without using the word “Hoth.”
*pulls mitre down around eyes and tries to ease out of the room before Fourscore sees him*
This is the reason I find the 12 million estimate more reasonable.
with 12 million illegals that is only about 3.5 – 4% of the country being illegal. If you estimate it at 30 million that works out to 9% of the population being illegal.
One out of every ~27 people being illegal is far more believable than 1 out of every 9
You don’t live in SoCal, I take it?
1 in 9 seems pretty likely here.
sure, 1 in 9 is reasonable there. I’m sure in some places it is 1 in 5 but then on the other hand you have huge swathes of the country where all immigrants combined, legal and illegal don’t measure up to 1 in 9 people
Reuters shocked that an elected person says that “next week” will start to fulfill a campaign promise.
“‘Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States,’ Trump tweeted, referring to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. ‘They will be removed as fast as they come in,’ he said. He did not offer specifics.”
Maybe a new Operation?
Hans Herman Hoppe intensifies
Invest in helicopters.
I wonder if anyone really believes that you can find, process and deport 12 million people. That’s a huge number and it’s not like they are all in a central registry. Leave the immigrants, kill the welfare state.
If we could actually kill the welfare state the illegal alien problem would solve itself. Unfortunately neither of those things are ever going to happen.
It’s the rights version of gun control. “You think you can round up MILLIONS of unregistered items with 100 percent compliance?”
While true there are some important differences.
Your gun does not respond to my gun being confiscated. However upon seeing a serious crackdown on illegal immigrants some will choose to self deport before being caught.
A gun need take no further action to continue to exist, an illegal immigrant needs to work and interact in society in order to survive
“If we could actually kill the welfare state the illegal alien problem would solve itself.”
That isn’t true. Most illegals work.
I’m pretty sure some of the roofers that replaced our roof fall into this category.
*I did not hire them, the HOA did.
The ones who are working and whose families are not receiving any taxpayer benefits are not the problem.
People who come here and work are not the problem. I think WTF’s comment was accurate.
We used to get a lot of people that came here – alone – that worked hard and sent money back. These people never came in any sort of caravan, because they were NOT here for asylum, but for money for their families back home. In the last few years that has changed. Now we have caravans of people coming here, often with other people’s children, all looking for asylum and free shit.
There has definitely been a demographic shift in whom is coming, and it explains why the left, which in the past was against the illegals coming (it competed with their unionized workers and hurt that voter block which is now moved tor Trump), now is all for open borders: people coming here for free shit are going to quickly “fundamentally change America” in the way the marxists want it to change.
You know whe else found and processed a large group of people?

Re NYC subsidizing abortions for out-of-state residents: Plane ticket or bus fare? Cause it’s a fairly long trip from Georgia or Alabama. Do they get a 1-2 day recovery layover? Suspect that $250K isn’t going to last long. Sorry, NYC taxpayers, sucks to be you.
It’s a small price to pay to get to feel so smug.
It’s such a perfect place they have moved on to solving out of state problems.
“See that signal over there? We like to call that particular color Virtue!”
I can hardly wait for the first story about some farm girl from Georgia who gets knocked up on purpose so she can get a free trip to NYC.
Or a pregnant Georgia girl who gets the free trip then refuses to have the abortion.
I think that is what PJ meant. “I’m getting cold feet, do you mind if I walk around Times Square for a bit to clear my mind?”
No, I just was saying that to some kid in Bumfuck, GA, a free trip to NYC seems pretty fucking cool. No idea if they go through with it once they are there.
I want an abortion too! Do I have to claim to be transgender and pregnant to get the free trip?
Or refuses to leave.
The article says we won’t pay your plane fare, but will hook you up to some kind folks who will. We just cover the snip-snip.
Stupid argument with the Mother in Law circa the wife: Zhou Enlai was a peacemaker and a great man. Me? He was a lackey of Mao and murderer himself. Someone floated the idea that Zhou was some kind of peacemaker behind the scenes and it made it to the Mom in law. Love her to death, but holy shit is that insane.
You’ve gotta write that sit-com treatment before one of us does it for you, Straff.
Takes a lot to leave me agape at one’s ignorance. You’d think Mao’s number 2 wouldn’t be a Japanese housewife’s hero.
That is one for the books for sure. Goes to show life continues to surprise us.
Why? The Japanese historically like killing Chinese. Zhou was good at killing Chinese…
Can we get that clapping GIF in here?!?
Fetish for Mao’s number 2? Japan (wo)man living up to their reputation.
Paul J. Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman who is serving a federal prison sentence, had been expected to be transferred to the notorious Rikers Island jail complex this month to await trial on a separate state case.
Why would New York have any need whatsoever to take custody of Manafort if he is already in a federal prison?
Aside from intimidation and sheer vindictiveness, of course. And to get that attention whore Democrat AG some more face time. Will she announce a run for the Presidency, soon?
Shower room rape is exactly what Trump’s cronies deserve, amirite?
But ^this is probably the real reason. High-profile nonviolent defendants often get special treatment. The locals are using process as punishment. The mere existence of Rikers is one reason I won’t set foot inside that jurisdiction.
Oh, c’mon. I’m sure Huffpo would come to the defense of Manafort after, “Former Trump campaign manager gets donation in Rikers” headline graces the NY Post.
“Why would New York have any need whatsoever to take custody of Manafort if he is already in a federal prison?”
Because it’s not the FedGov’s job to transport him to his state court trial. And the feds aren’t familiar with all the local rules and protocols for whatever courthouse he’ll be in – much easier to just bring him in in a van from a local lockup in custody of people who know the drill. Trust me, prisoner transport and housing during trials are a PITA.
Is that the SOP for high profile prisoners, too?
See above.
Really, a woodchipper needs to be permanently installed outside the NY AG office.
“The cases are based on the free exercise clause of the constitution’s first amendment. Under the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the constitution, there is no right for people of faith to be exempt from generally applicable laws even if those laws interfere with religious practices. In the 1990s, the Supreme Court carved out an exception to this for cases where supposedly neutral legislation can be shown to be rooted in overt hostility against a religion.”
Currently, the court has six members raised Catholic, and three Jews.
“there is no right for people of faith to be exempt from generally applicable laws even if those laws interfere with religious practices.”
I mean other than freedom of conscience… but people only get rights from a benevolent government.
Well, there is also freedom of association.
Stop laughing.
I said stop…
Totally representative of America, that is.
I aint one to play quota games, but the court has, at times. Where are the evangelicals or charismatics or even mainline protestants?
Although that latter group would be the worst (in general).
That’s what they want you to think.
They’re all Jews. Don’t be fooled.

While that might have been the end of his criminal problems, in March, he was indicted on 16 New York state felonies, including mortgage fraud and falsifying records to obtain millions of dollars in loans. The indictment, which was based on some of the same actions in one of the federal cases, was brought by the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., in an effort to ensure Mr. Manafort would still face prison time if Mr. Trump pardoned him for his federal crimes.
My mistake; it’s Vance who has a throbbing hardon for Manafort. It must be good to be in a position where you can bring the entire “justice” apparat to bear on a single person whom you have taken a dislike to.
Double jeopardy, bill of attainder, blah blah blah, FYTW.
Now that it’s normal, will you imagine the gnashing of teeth when Texas AG promises to prosecute the next Democratic presidents friends.
Of course the GOP doesn’t have the balls to respond in kind which is why the Dems feel safe doing this knowing that there won’t be any payback.
“We have to be better than them.” Meanwhile they keep getting their asses kicked.
Shower room rape is exactly what Trump’s cronies deserve, amirite?
Assuming there are no broom handles available.
“The original cut of Born Innocent contained a scene where Blair’s character was raped in the communal showers by several girls led by Moco (Nora Heflin) and Denny (Janit Baldwin) with a plunger handle.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Born_Innocent_(film)
True story: There was a Beetle Bailey strip that got rejected which mentioned that scene. The punchline was Bailey asking, “Do they show the plunger?”
That’s only NYPD that does that. DoC has more organic tools.
If you get paywalled:
“New York City will spend $250,000 to help poor women who travel from other states to obtain abortions here, inserting itself into the increasingly contentious debate over access to the procedure.
While the amount of money is relatively small, the allocation is a symbolic if provocative move as more conservative states take steps to all but ban abortion.
The money will go to the New York Abortion Access Fund, according to City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera, a Democrat from Manhattan, and Jennifer Fermino, a spokeswoman for the Council speaker, Corey Johnson. Abortion rights activists believe that this is the first time that a city will allocate money specifically for abortions.
City officials said the contribution, which would be included in the budget being negotiated between the Council and the mayor’s office, would allow about 500 women to terminate their pregnancies.
The city provides funding to the nonprofit Planned Parenthood, but that organization’s affiliates charge patients on a sliding scale and offer a range of services. The city’s public hospital system also performs abortions, but women face a bureaucracy of requests for proof of income, private insurance and Medicaid.
The abortion access fund provides payment to clinics on behalf of women who might not be able to pay for abortions, but are not covered by insurance or Medicaid. Roughly a third of the fund goes to women who come to New York for abortions.
“There haven’t been that many city and state public officials to say we should publicly fund abortions. It’s a big statement,” said Aziza Ahmed, a law professor at Northeastern University in Boston. “This is a culture war to some degree.””
No kidding.
So, the prog wet-dream of taxpayer funding of PP realized since NYC public hospitals have too many paperwork requirements.
And thanks for the help with the paywall.
“The city’s public hospital system also performs abortions, but women face a bureaucracy of requests for proof of income, private insurance and Medicaid.”
That sentence doesn’t make sense. If someone has a Medicaid card that already proves they are low income.
Hell, I had to provide a secondary proof of residency in addition to my driver’s license when I went to the DMV.
Nothing makes sense anymore.
Because the left is blurring the lines now. If they believe, then the law is wrong.
They want a Bizarro world to cause rupture.
Just look at how the Olberlin admin is handling the verdict. They absolutely believe they’re in the right and that the issue is ‘not settled’. It’s always through the prism of some kind of ‘social justice’ narrative and unless they win every time…..well, they’re gonna burn it all down.
Think of it. The original reason for the attack on Gibson’s was because it was alleged three black people were arrested because of racism. That turned out to be absolutely false and the three accusers pleaded guilty. Hence, Oberlin inserted itself stupidly into a situation based on a false narrative before any facts came in.
And they still think they’re right! They’re mental.
They’re not “Mental”. They are “Woke”. I remember when that term first started gaining a foot-hold and I was like “Please, please, please, please no God, no!” and then it happened anyway
All of this is what happens when you enshrine a dogma on the Truth’s throne. Once something is accepted as Capital T True, questioning it becomes heresy. Heresy is an offense against God and must be punished. Reason cannot be allowed to question the Truth and contradictions cannot be examined.
I am coming to believe that literally all societies are, and have always been, Theocratic, and that that fact is disguised by the practice of using different names for the deity/priesthood ruling the society. God, Volk, King, Emperor, Party, Our American Values, all seem to have a strong semantic equivalence.
As a tax payer, I would be urinated off by the fact that they spent $342K to upgrade this park. As a human, I’m mad at the parents who complained – not about the cost – but because the climbing tower is too scary.
Your kids are pussies. Let your kids get themselves down. They will. They got up there, they can get down.
We had a diving tower where I grew up. The rule was that the ladder to the top diving deck was for climbing up only. Anyone trying to climb down was shouted at by everyone. In the early summer, the deck was packed with small kids who climbed up and then got scared. Eventually they jumped and realized it was no big deal. By the end of the summer anyone who dove from the deck had to swim for the bottom because all his buddies tried to bomb him .
That’s like when people flip out over a cat stuck up a tree. Like I told the girls when they were little, “When was the last time that you saw a cat skeleton in a tree”?
To be fair, since my vertigo started acting up I climb up and down ladders in Tree Sloth mode.
Look inside the owl nest.
They should just hire this guy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ICfpjoevP8
We have a similar one at the park near us. I don’t recall anyone needing rescue.
Of course, I had kids that climbed to the top of every tree they could reach.
This is how a playground should look, anyway.
Why are all the kids wearing hats?
For protection in case they fall. Duh!
Yeah, we grew up with monkey bars that led to at least one kid a year being carted off to the dentist to fix some broken teeth.
Good times.
When I was a kid I cracked one of my front teeth on a monkey bar. It looked like an inverted V. Thank goodness for modern dentistry. Still have that permanent tooth in place.
We had this merry go round that was like an inverted bowl, with indentations for the kids to stand in. Metal handles that got hotter than hell. The older kids would get the thing going so fast the younger kids would go flying off.
It was amazing.
One of the first things they took down – after I had left my elementary school – was the Maypole.
Imagine a pole with chains hanging from the top. You grab the chain, via a handle, and spin around. We would -as a group – get running as fast as we could and then swing from the inertia. And of course you could also whip the chain and crack an enemy in the back of the head with it. Much fun.

better action pic
Love it.
It’s just how we rolled.
Daredevils today. Can’t do anything without parents hovering.
Hopefully she hadn’t been drinking…
We had one called the playhouse that was a tube of long 2×6 that rotated on the long axis. The inside diameter was maybe 5 or 6 feet. You could stand and touch the top when we were old enough and rotate with it. Younger kids would just tumble inside like clothes in a clothes dryer. The other issue was fingers getting pinched between the seemingly always loose boards.
They are all shoe-shine and newspaper boys. I seen it in a movie.
I saw an old photo of one from NYC. Those kids would have been a fifty feet in the air, at least.
That’s awesome! My boys said that was “lit!” And asked why they don’t have that kind of playground anymore. I showed them the article Pope posted and said, “because people today think even this one is too dangerous.”
What about men who identify as pregnant women? How can we exclude these deserving victims of fate from this program?
I still can’t wrap my head around FTM having babies. It’s the most female behavior possible.
$250,000 divided by 500, let’s see, carry the 1, wait, wait, wait, I’ll get it. So a New York abortion is $500 ? Get what you pay for in abortions, I guess.
Cheaper than installing more stairwells.
“and here’s your commemorative bent coathanger. we will bronze it for an extra $50”
[standing ovation]
That’s even cheaper than my vasectomy.
How a Right-Wing Attack on Protections for Native American Children Could Upend Indian Law
After four hundred years of war, the Tribes lost. Having them be anything other than ordinary citizens annexed into the nation is a disservice to our honored foes.
We can’t just handwave all those treaties and years of case law away. This is an imperfect world, and this is one of its glaring imperfections, but we are stuck with it.
Didn’t stop us before.
” the nation’s most vulnerable children”
Wait, I thought that was “refugee” children. Or poor black children in rural Mississippi?
“Or poor black children in rural Mississippi?”
With the new abortion law they are not as vulnerable anymore.
…shielding marginalized communities from America’s foundational systems of discrimination and genocide
And, I’m out.
The tribes never discriminated, nor committed genocide.
Because they were pre-literate there are no records of that, so it’s very easy to paint them as peaceful hunter-gatherers.
Land claims are much the same. “The people that were here before? Nope, don’t know nothing about that!”
Yeah, the Incas, Mayans, Toltecs, and a slew of others kept records that showed not just how warlike but outright brutal these people were to others, and there is no reason to suspect their cousins more to the north were any different. Especially since we have quite a bit of recorded history – ignored these days – of how these societies were anything but peaceful when it came to competition for anything of value…
I was raised to believe in the noble savage. Reading the journals of Lewis and Clark, and the book, Undaunted Courage, cured me of that. The native Americans were cavemen.
“America’s foundational systems of discrimination and genocide”
Geeze, move to China already
Good. One law for all, no special carve-outs. We’re having the devil’s own time up here over this very issue.
I’ll have to send this one on to my father to get him ranting. He was a probation officer who had a huge caseload of Indians from the nearby res. He hated this law because it condemned a lot of kids to living in very shitty conditions.
Instead of being taken from an unfit home and put into regular foster care (which isn’t great) the kids are forced to go into the tribal foster care instead which is much worse. And a lot of pressure is put on them to return the kids to the original parents no matter how fucked up they are.
Kids get totally fucked just so rich liberals can feel good about themselves.
*Not denying that there was some serious abuse of white eyes stealing kids in the distant past. But that isn’t happening anymore, and this law is real bad.
The same people who want a malleable constitution will fight against Repealing any obsolete law that is part of their creation myth.
The Fed-Gov just completed a one hundred million dollar Inquiry into missing and murdered Native women that took years. Their completely non-partisan and not fully pre-cooked conclusion? GENOCIDE. Never mind that most crime against Native women is by Native men, just like every other demographic in this country. Now the U.N. wants to get involved. Thanks Justin!
Well you know how it is… I get a little bored watching television, drinking, and raping the white girls so my white friends and I start trolling through the ghetto to find some black bodies. But that gets boring. So it’s a chartered flight over to New Mexico to get some of that sweet Indian poon-tang.
Kind of ironic that Goldwater Institute and CATO are on the same side as government child welfare agencies.
Ah. Clarity.
“Tribal leaders, child advocates, and attorneys specializing in Indian law worry that if the Texas ruling is upheld, it could open the door to constitutional challenges of a range of federal laws based on Native American tribes’ political relationship with the U.S. government, including the Major Crimes Act, which establishes the federal government’s law enforcement role on reservations; the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, which governs casinos on tribal land; federal policies that allow tribes to regulate the oil and gas industry; and programs that offer housing and health care to Native American communities.”
They need to get rid of all of that. Privatize the land, and make all the “Indians” regular ass American citizens.
Either that or treat them as actual separate nations with separate legal systems. Send them the money that they are due from the BIA and sever all future support.
^This. Because that might create an eventual people could exploit to stay part of the US (for purposes of defense and immigration), but otherwise be left alone by the states. And don’t laugh at me.
If I was an Indian on a res, I would be pushing for the tribe to build all sorts of things like a gas refinery or a nuke power plant that the white eyes can’t because of all the regulation.
Ah, but the perpetually impoverished tribes wouldn’t build those things on their own; they’d expect investors to come in and build them. And those investors would be subject to shakedowns, rakeoffs, set-asides, etc, at the whim of the tribal governments. Somehow the gaming industry has managed to make their peace with the tribal governments.
I was actually in that business many years ago. The dynamics were…interesting.
A lot of Indian casinos are, or at least were, run by the mob.
The gaming industry is used to all that chicanery.
I suppose it depended on the gaming commissions in the particular states. I know that in the jurisdictions we played in, there was no way. The background checks and transparency were pretty thorough.
Besides, the mob learned a long time ago that someone has to build and maintain those casinos.
Fuck that, I’d form an offshore captive and have the benefits of the Cayman banking system without the long flight.
Yes, end recognition for those racist pseudo governments. If they want to continue a race based private social club, they’re fr.. oh, wait free association was shitcanned also.
Glenn Greenwald remains the only writer worth reading at The Intercept.
Tard Tuesday: Postmodern Progressive Pupils
I like how acceptance of the progressive world view as unquestioned and unquestionable truth doesn’t count as indoctrination.
It absolutely isn’t. The failure to indoctrinate with social justice issues is the only true form of indoctrination.
All smart and educated people know prog-think is right-think, and everything else is wrong-think!
RE: Abortion tourism.
I continue to find it odd that the Hard Left has chosen abortion as the hill to die on. I don’t really understand why it became such an obsession with them, other than as some kind of Freudian window into their contempt for life, meaning and humanity.
Also: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – give it 50 years and they’ll be scrambling to outlaw it. By then, their pet programs will have become so costly and burdensome that they’ll need as many tax cattle as they can get. Just like the Soviets, they’ll get rid of it.
We’ve always been at war with…
The Comanches?
Since the name “Comanche” is from the Ute name for them, kɨmantsi, which means “enemy”, that is true.
The progressives end goal is the Anti-Life equation. Abortion on demand is just a baby-step on the path to that end, but a necessary one.
That being said, I’m not anti-abortion, in the sense that I think it should be allowed in the first trimester.
When all else fails, go back to the wedge issues.
In 50 years their pet Muslim victims will have taken over the party. There won’t be any abortions, gays, trans, feminists…
Tard Tuesday: WHARRRGARBLE
“I’m dissatisfied! I’m gonna grab my thesaurus and my dusty text books and just throw shit at the wall until someone caves”.
So throwing out garbage is racist?
You’re supposed to set it out like a smorgasbord for the indigent.
According to some, yes:
“the discourse of disposability signals a society in which certain people are viewed as throwaways”
Does everything have to be about abortion? Geez.

I’m not familiar with the source material, but I’m looking forward to watching this.
The source material is hilarious, profane and absolutely delightful. There is no way to have even a quarter of it on a TV show.
I am too. One of the reasons I hate the current superhero movies is that half a city is destroyed while the super people fight each other and no one ever thinks about all the poor bastards who got wiped out while they were sitting on the crapper in their office.
You wouldn’t be concerned with that if your mom’s name was Martha.
That’s what I liked about “Watchmen.”
That movie has been recommended to me repeatedly. Someday soon I’ll watch it.
The extra super long version is the best.
The graphic novel is better.
Um, Captain America Civil War would like a word.
I’m somewhat wary of it.
The comic run itself is brilliant. Garth Ennis firing on on all cylinders. If you’re not familiar with his work, he’s an Irish cynic who genuinely hates super heroes (yet somehow wrote one of the greatest love letters to the character of Superman in his comic book “Hitman”). One of his books, for example, was “The Pro” about a prostitute who is given super powers. It’s profane, hilarious, sad, and strangely hopeful.
The last property of Garth Ennis to be fully adapted was “Preacher” which somehow managed to miss everything that was great about the series. They grabbed the characters, some of the story points, and managed to make something that entirely missed the point of what the author was saying. Those same bozos are the ones doing “The Boys”.
Part of me feels excited about the Amazon series…but it’s tempered, knowing that it’ll probably be a shit fest.
At the very least it has to be better than Hulu’s adaption of Catch-22.
They had me at Karl Urban.
The campaign against the Indian Child Welfare Act fits into a wider right-wing effort to legally challenge civil rights-era gains that have remained instrumental in shielding marginalized communities from America’s foundational systems of discrimination and genocide.
All those fabulously successful programs which have lifted marginalized communities out of poverty and despair. Why, it’s hard to believe there is any such thing as a “marginalized” group, what with the Great Society, and all.

Just talked with my brother about this. He started with, “OJ says that, but Alex Jones gets booted? WTF?” The double standard isn’t even any fun anymore.
Don’t be such a prude, he’s only making jokes about murdering people by stabbing them to death.
I don’t care that he joked about it. I care that he did it.

As a central element of neoliberalism, the discourse of disposability signals a society in which certain people are viewed as throwaways. Meanwhile the discourse of pollution suggests a mode of dehumanization that enables policies in which people are relegated outside the boundaries of justice and become the driving force for policies of terminal exclusion. These terms represent a merging of neoliberalism and fascist politics.
“Watch closely, ladies and gentlemen. At no time do mt fingers leave my hand. And… PRESTO! The rabbit appears.”
Anyone who mentions “neoliberalism” is full of shit.

I think the strongest case to support Trump’s re-election is that under him people are suddenly free to question the government again. People are not being dismissed as conspiracy theorists for questioning the bombing of oil tankers (supposedly by Iran)- contrast that with anyone who questioned all the gas attacks that Assad supposedly undertook. Under Trump we find out that illegal immigrants are being housed at military bases- contrast that with the complete blackout of any of this information by the corporate press under President Obama.
Under any Democrat it will be a blackout on damaging news again and dismissal of anyone who questions the administration’s narrative. Trump may be the most restrained executive in my lifetime and that is not going to be the case with the next guy, because we’ll go back to “nothing to see here- all is well- move along”.
Yeah, the previous guy promised “hope” and then turned around and told us “you didn’t build that,” called us “bitter clingers,” etc. This guy plays to the common people, which used to be something the Dems had a lock on. They were out-populisted and aren’t liking it none too much.
^^^THIS^^^
I also think that a big factor is that the elite class is really mad they lost the plebes because the plebes basically decided the agreement they had with the elite where they would tolerate some level of corruption from the elite as long as they delivered for all was null and void when the elite decided accountability was not something the plebes were allowed to expect. Basically the elite want to keep the perks the agreement allows while not being held to any of the requirements to keep the perks. To the elite class it is an existential threat that their credentialed crystal palace is now under assault by people they expect to at a minimum just shut the fuck up and do what they are told – regardless of how bad it is for these people – if they can’t show gratitude to the elite.
Who’s really questioning the oil tanker bombings? Sure, we do, but so many people are in their bubbles that I’d bet the state line is being gobbled up hook, line and sinker. The “conspiracy cohort” is growing in the eyes of the normies, but that is all the more reason to elect a more moderate candidate. Whatever the fuck that is.
The NYT (if you can believe it) had an article noting that others have questioned whether or not Iran was to blame for the attack on the oil tankers. For the first time in its existence, the NYT has ever so slightly pushed back on an intelligence community narrative and it wasn’t in service of defending a communist genocide. I was astounded
This makes no sense. Isn’t Trump Hitler? In Nazi Germany, people simply disappeared. No one claimed to know anything about any concentration camps. Jews really thought they were going into a delousing shower. So how can Trump be Hitler if the news media chronicles it every time he or one of his minions takes a crap?
Tard Tuesday: Closing Gaps, All the Way Down
Manufacturing jobs are largely white and male. Amazing.
What diversity is there in Illinois? Immigration into the state has collapsed and African Americans are leaving the state like the plague.
This is just the latest effort of a dying state with a dying city doubling down on death
I’d imagine it’s every woman’s fantasy to get a job installing solar panels in fallow fields in the middle of nowhere.
Yet for whatever reason, they take office jobs where they complain about the setting of the air conditioning.
My world is rooftops and I can tell you I have never seen a female pipe-fitter, sparky, solar installer or roofer. Like you say, I’m sure they are pining to work all day in the harshest of conditions, if only they weren’t being repressed.
Around here there is a waiting list to get into some union apprentice programs, but they leave so many openings for women. There isn’t a waiting list for women, they just sign up and they’re in. Nobody is discriminating against women, in fact the reverse is happening, they just aren’t interested in those jobs.
I have a coworker who’s daughter got a full scholarship to the Citadel. He said that her grades would be borderline to even get in if she was male. But as a female, she is going to get the red carpet treatment.
I’m sure it is the same way in those union jobs. Not only can any female get in, but they will get all the help that they want along the way.
Employers would love them some more women applicants. Especially since they can pay them 20% less than a man.
there was a female welder at this water treatment reno job site once but they canned her ass for cutting a pipe too short. i also saw a female electrician once. at least i think she was an electrician. she was working with the electricians. i was working with the steamfitters and plumbers so never had reason to interact with her.
Not really fair to blame a woman for being mis-trained in what 12 inches of pipe actually looks like.

Why is the image of an environmentally conscious African-American still hard for us to picture?
I wish the gay community were more accepting of gun owners
WaPo has disabled copying text from their page, but the gist of the article is that gay people are frequent targets of hate crimes.
I suppose there may be places where the reaction would be different, but you’d have to look pretty hard to find them.
I realize I may be making the error of understanding my own experience as a broader phenomenon, but I’ve got to say that, in 2019, the biggest Bubba I know, a lifetime member of the NRA who wears a lot of Grunt Style shirts, works a blue-collar job and voted for Trump, was the best man at his flamboyantly gay male friend’s wedding. With the older generations you might see a different attitude, and like I say I’m sure my allegorical experience isn’t a universal thing, but it seems on casual observation that it’s at least much less acceptable to be openly anti-homosexual.
“it’s at least much less acceptable to be openly anti-homosexual”
It is. Nobody cares anymore, and if they do they mostly keep quiet about it. Which is the way America should be – live and let live.
^^^THIS LAST PART^^^
This remarkable change in attitudes took about one generation. What did the gays do to bring that about that we libertarians can’t seem do to make our ideas acceptable (and translatable to the voting booth)?
It was the fabuuulous clothing?
Appearances on reality shows out of proportion to actual numbers?
To call back to other points in this thread, it appears to be working for Catholics and Jews on the Supreme Court too.
Honestly? Shut up about it and do their own thing, more or less. I think that’s the key. I don’t think it was guys with mustaches in g-strings on roller skates waving flags so much as just normal people who were openly gay and, well, openly normal who really did the work. Not like that shit happened over night, obviously, but I think you had a generation who grew up seeing gay people in entertainment and media who weren’t pedos or rapists or, and no disrespect to the man, Rip Taylor. And then Rip became acceptable. And next thing you know you’ve got shows about gay guys giving straight guys makeovers and everybody being open about themselves and it not being a big deal.
That’s what I think, at least. Maybe it was a bunch of court cases and marches and so forth, or who knows what, but personally the moment I realized I didn’t think there was anything strange about gay people was when I realized how many I knew for whom being gay was not the single most important aspect of their identities.

The NYT is on the Kashuv case
Harvard informs students upon their admission that the college reserves the right to withdraw its offer for several reasons, including if an admitted student “engages or has engaged in behavior that brings into question their honesty, maturity or moral character.”
William R. Fitzsimmons, the dean of admissions and financial aid, cited “maturity and moral character” in informing Mr. Kashuv of the rescinded admission offer.
——-
Two other prominent Parkland student activists, Jaclyn Corin and David Hogg, both of them vocal proponents of tighter gun restrictions, are headed to Harvard this fall. Mr. Hogg, who is completing a gap year, garnered attention when he announced his acceptance last year after being rejected from other schools, including from California State University at Long Beach. On Monday, Mr. Kashuv’s defenders noted that Mr. Hogg had a 4.2 grade point average and scored 1270 on the SAT test, while Mr. Kashuv said in the interview that he had a 5.4 G.P.A., and a 1550 SAT score.
Unlike some of his classmates who became national figures after starting a youth movement against gun violence, Mr. Kashuv garnered widespread attention as a young voice in favor of gun rights. In Washington, he lobbied in support of the STOP School Violence Act and a law stepping up requirements for reporting on criminal background checks on gun buyers, both passed in 2018.
He served as the high school outreach director for Turning Point USA, a conservative group with ties to the Trump family.
-if an admitted student “engages or has engaged in behavior that brings into question their honesty, maturity or moral character.”-
Remember that time in fourth grade when you stuck two pencils up your nose and stuck your tongue out at the new girl? It’ll come back to haunt you, one of these days.
Ties to the Trump family? If that’s not immoral, I don’t know what is.
Harvard had to do it. Otherwise, the entire Class of ’20 was going to boycott, and transfer to Evergreen, where they could get a quality education, in safe surroundings.
Proving that GPAs are next to meaningless anymore.
Any place that purprorts to have a GPA that goes above 4 can be regarded as serious. Where do you get “Better than perfect” grades?
Weighted GPA. I don’t know what the scale is now, but for the class of ’96 in Anne Arundel County the “advanced” classes were I think an extra point and AP classes were two. IOW, an A in a smart people class was 5 points and an A in an AP class was 6. When I graduated no colleges gave a shit about weighted GPA.
They still dont.
Some scores grade on a 100 point scale. So the top graduates have a average something like 98.
I think it would be better if every class got ranked.
Give them a percentile score.
What was it exactly he supposedly did or said?
He went Quentin Tarantino in some google doc for shock value.
As if David Hogg didn’t engage in behavior that brings into question his honesty, maturity or moral character? He was a blatant liar and childish sleazeball.
One screenshot shows Mr. Kashuv using a racial slur for African-Americans more than a dozen times.
Oh, Lordy!
+1 “What does a black pirate say?”
Ariana Ali, the former schoolmate who posted video of the messages on Twitter, declined to elaborate on Monday beyond praising Harvard’s rescinding of Mr. Kashuv’s admission offer.
“He’s being held accountable, & I think the consequences were necessary,” she said in a direct message on Twitter.
Bless her heart.
She got her ten minutes of fame by exposing him. She’s going to be quite the catch for some guy.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Explains Socialism During Instagram Live Stream: ‘It Does Not Mean Government Owns Everything’
Socialism: Government owns the means of production. Democratic Socialism: Government just takes all your money. Suppose she has a point.
So it’s really about democracy in the economy.
No, it really isn’t.
Sweetheart, no one is stopping your ‘workers’ from starting their own company or busting their ass to rise in someone else’s. Besides, people are starting to get wise to your commie bullshit:
Strike Two: UAW Again Fails to Unionize Volkswagen Plant
VW’s Chattanooga plant, home to the Passat and Atlas, employs about 3,500 workers, but will soon see its ranks swell. A number of vehicles could roll out of the Tennessee facility in the coming years; among them, a sportier Atlas-based SUV and two (or more) electric MEB-platform vehicles. In January, VW pledged $800 million towards the plant’s expansion.
Not only would bringing Chattanooga into its fold allow UAW to breach that pesky Southern wall, it would give its own ranks a much-needed boost. The union’s membership has declined drastically since its heyday in the 1970s.
*points and laughs at commies*
A bunch of rich hippies in the (wannabe) upscale neighborhood I used to live in tried to start a food coop. They got as far as leasing a space before they folded. From what I can piece together everyone wanted virtue signaling rights, but nobody “had the time to” show up for meetings, work calls, etc.
Precious, aren’t they?
THIS…
So then they just outsourced the actual farming to some poor minorities, which was way better than the way things work now.
So, what does the government own and control, exactly? I’d love to have her lay out her vision for the DemSoc America she wants to build. In detail. With numbers.
Numbers are racist and triggering.
Exactly! Why the fuck should anyone know what something costs or how they are gonna pay for it huh?
THAT BILL NEEDS TO BE PASSED SO WE CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS IN IT!
The govt will just move in and take over the companies that refuse to play ball with the govt. Totes not socialism…
That’s a great idea. *Democratic Fascists of America*. Probably been done.
Real fascism has never been tried. Germany and Italy just had some bad luck.
Damn oil prices killed us.
With numbers
Math is sexist! We don’t want none of your Patriarchy here buddy.
I’m not sure she understands it, but what she’s describing is basically fascist economics.
Socialism does not mean government owns everything.
Nobody thinks it does. That’s communism.
She describes worker ownership, worker participation in governance. Both of which can happen now, and neither of which is the least bit socialist, democratic or otherwise. The socialism happens when it is mandated (and lets not kid ourselves, that’s what she is talking about).
I think that it is very easily corrupted
Any form of socialism or communism is. In fact, its baked in, even assumed and touted as a good thing. Corruption is when government and business conspire. Which is exactly what socialism and its cousin fascism are.
and I don’t think that that’s a good thing.
I think you believe its a very good, as long as you get to wet your beak.
Yep, that doesn’t happen without force.

Twenty-five years ago, O.J. Simpson showed white Americans just how conditional their comfort with black athletes was
The Bronco chase forced Americans not only to wrestle with the increasing likelihood of Simpson’s guilt but also to recognize that perhaps he was not who they thought he was. He was not the smiling pitchman running through airports or the frequent victim of comedic violence in “Naked Gun.” He was O.J., and he was black — or at least that was the message Time magazine sent when it darkened his post-chase mug shot on the cover of its June 27, 1994, edition.
Over the years, the Bronco chase has been viewed as a galvanizing moment, as a third of the country tuned in to watch the tragedy unfold. That night, NBC concluded that O.J. Simpson’s fall from grace was important enough to disrupt an epic battle between two of the greatest NBA players of all time.
The chase not only disrupted the NBA Finals — it also unsettled the comfort white Americans had developed for black athletes. For years, black athletes, and Simpson in particular, were held up as signs of the progress made toward bridging America’s racial divide. That night, however, he served as a stark reminder of how conditional that comfort was.
That night, however, he served as a stark reminder of how conditional that comfort was.
Yeah, guys who commit brutal murders tend to make people uncomfortable.
I was in college at the time. I remember I was in the student union building when the verdict was read on TV. The black students cheered. They saw it as a triumph over racism. The white students saw it as a person getting away with murder. It was a very jarring example of how differently people see the world.
I was working for a small (~100 people) software company at the time and many of us had informally gathered into the break-room to watch the verdict live — exact same dichotomy of reactions and yes, it was very jarring.
So a more ‘democratically socialist’ business would have workers on the board of the corporation instead of billionaires on the boards of corporations. So it’s really about democracy in the economy.
It’s totally not fair for the plutokkkratz to make it illegal for employees to own shares in their workplaces, or for them to be involved in decisionmaking.

So will the NYC commissioners in charge of administering the Make an Abortion fund give extra weight to minority applicants? Or would someone who is going to have a white male baby get more preference points?
Like they’ve said above, $250K isn’t that much money, someone is going to have to sort through the applicants and decide what lucky preggos get a free abortion in NYC. I want to know what factors will be used.
Will they be able to resist giving preference to blacks and hispanics?
Here’s an actual conversation I had this weekend:
“Did you hear that Brett Kavanaugh wants to make it illegal for undocumented immigrants under 18 to have abortions while in custody in the US?”
“No…do what now?”
“Brett Kavanaugh and Mitch McConnell decided that a teenage girl who’d been raped couldn’t get an abortion without telling her parents and the guy who runs the internment facility was tracking girls’ menstrual cycles and everything on a spreadsheet.”
“What? That’s…pretty weird. So why didn’t they want the girls to get abortions? Did they just not want the government to pay for it? Was it a legal thing, since they’re minors? International jurisdiction? Anti-abortion?”
“Probably just because they’re brown.”
“…but, if they just don’t like brown people wouldn’t they want them to have as many abortions as possible? So that there are fewer brown people?”
“…”
“…”
Yeah, logic never seems to be part of whatever evil conspiracy the progtards are peddling, Bill. My guess is that this person you were talking to’s takeaway from the conversation was that you were not smart enough to see that the evil these racialists feel overcomes any and all logic… It’s jokingly called progjection for a reason.
Oh, no, the reaction was to move onto the next reddit topic and not pull that particular piece of yarn any more. This is someone who is one of if not the smartest person I have ever known, but when it comes to politics is seemingly incapable of thinking beyond tribal allegiances. Of course what she (oops!) was implying makes no sense, but if backed into a corner she’d probably have said, without a shred of irony, that their deeply-held racism would push them to behave irrationally.
Yup, agreed. It baffles me how often progies square away their lack of logic with it comes from the other side’s motivations being impure/evil, and thus also not rooted in anything logical.
This is someone who is one of if not the smartest person I have ever known,
Present company excepted, of course.

This is yet another opportunity to ask ourselves, “Why is it still possible to succeed in every aspect of American academia and culture, without understanding the history, nuance and abiding presence of white supremacy?” “Why are our graduates so lacking in empathy and ethics?” Until our curriculum addresses these issues and the gap between what is taught and what is lived, we will continue to produce doctors, lawyers, business executives, judges, etc., who know how and when to wear the mask of public expectations, while nurturing a reality of white supremacy and fluency in how it should be coded to avoid public condemnation. It was this child’s failure to properly utilize the code that everyone is examining and not the underlying realities. Rather than focusing on apologies and retribution, why not go deeper and look at how it is possible to be so brilliant, so promising and yet so lacking, but still succeed in this country? Until we can understand this, we can’t really understand the divisions within our culture, our politics and our communities.
The world inside your head is a real shithole, isn’t it, Thelma?
Thelma, you know who else said the n word a lot? And I hope you’re sitting down, but a lot of kids, maybe even most kids, say stupid shit so they can sound edgy, or as a joke, or because they’re walking around with gallons of hormones coursing through their brains as they deal with the stress of figuring out how to be an adult while navigating complex social environments populated by other lunatics within a bureaucratic structure where they are literally graded on their performance for eight hours a day.
Also, check that address. I’m telling you, the DMV is the white-hot epicenter of racial turmoil in this country.
All white people are suspect, even the ones that don’t treat minorities badly are probably hiding something. They need some tough lessons so they can get their minds right.

Where does your plastic go? Global investigation reveals America’s dirty secret
A Guardian report from 11 countries tracks how US waste makes its way across the world – and overwhelms the poorest nations
“This is not the experience of Nguyễn Thị Hồng Thắm, a 60-year-old Vietnamese mother of seven, living amid piles of grimy American plastic on the outskirts of Hanoi.”
We bombed her country so it could be our waste basket.
Vietnam should get smart like the Philippines and send the garbage back. Muh…green energy or something that doesn’t exist
So, what you’re saying is, Separating plastics gave this woman a job she wouldn’t have otherwise?
She’s stealing jobs that we import illegal immigrants to do.
Wait…what…just…happened?
Yes, it’s horrifying, isn’t it?
The dipshits could easily have focused on the electronics recycling business which is rife with hazards, but nope, they hate plastic bags so much.
No, we need to be paying Americans $50 an hour to do that. Green jobs!
America has a million square miles that could be turned into trash landfills if it wanted to. No, we burn countless energy units shipping it across the Pacific so this woman doesn’t have to spend her life in a rice paddy or something.
It’s like I’ve always said. Recycling is a harmful, make-work scam that’s ultimately worse for the environment.

2) One kid took a monster dump in the youth boy flush toilets so big, it clogged up all the youth boy, and all the adult male toilets in the next building over.
3) Alternative haircut camp-couselor barbie refering to everyone by the singular ‘they’ did *not* go over well.
4) They managed to serve us four days worth of food with aproximatly 0 protein and 0 fiber, making #2 even more of a mystery.
5) The Scoutcraft climbing course was made by two 16 year old boys lashing a bunch of spars together. I think only about 3 lag bolts were used in the whole thing. Tundra would have loved it.
6) “Shut up, sit down, and watch the fire burn” is a legitimate educational exercise appropriate for 5th grade cub scouts.
7) I fucking hate campfire songs.
“2) One kid took a monster dump in the youth boy flush toilets so big, it clogged up all the youth boy, and all the adult male toilets in the next building over.”
That deserves a merit badge
No shit.
I remember an incident where one kid ended up in the ER with a stomachache. Turns out he hadn’t taken a dump in a week.
X-Rays revealed a 14 inch turd in a 65 inch human.
Some of the biggest shits I seen came from kids. My son was just 7 or 8 months old when he had a bout of massive constipation and was constantly crying (the kid never did otherwise). I came back from a business trip to find my ex in a near panic because my kid, whom never had cried before, was constantly crying and in pain. I asked if she had contacted the doctor, and they had just told her it was likely teething or something. After a quick check, I realized that the issue was that he had not taken a dump in 2 days and his stomach was ultra distended and he could not pass the stools because it was too big and hard. A suppository and 15 mins later, and I kid you not, he passed a turd that was almost as long as he was at that age and as thick around as his leg. It freaked me the fook out, but he immediately quieted down and then took a 6 hour nap (had not slept in the 2 days he was constipated) and was his happy self after.
I won’t regale you with some of the efforts to unclog the toilet I had to do since then. Then again, my kid was responsible about 75% of the time, and my ex regularly did the same.
First things first, you deserve a medal.
#3 though. For real? That really happened? I ask because in two years I’m gonna have to find something for my daughter to do in the summer while I’m at work, and if camp counselors are getting wrapped up in pronoun shenanigans I’m going to have to find something else.
Camp coucelors are generall aged 16 to 23 or so in BSA camps. They are still far more culturally conservative than the general population in that age group, and BSA in particular self-selects for people with a vested interest in maintaining and cultivating a particular vision of gender roles in society. But.. like, have you talked with kids these days? Its not “camp councelors” its a sizable portion of the population in this age range.
My kid just turned 4, so it hasn’t come up, thank God. I’m not looking forward to being thrust onto the front lines of the Great Social Justice Revolution when she turns school age.
how was the gun range?
Cub scouts shoot bb guns, so very tame.
Tundra would have loved it.
That’s pretty awesome. Since there’s no 5 (a), I assume no one was killed.
Good for those guys!
Nope. No deaths. Those guys knew what they were doing. It was really well designed to be risky without being dangerous, and really well constructed.
I fucking hate campfire songs.
Me too, but I do like Sacrificial Bonfire songs.
Does the “they” in #4 refer to “they” in #3?
No. AHCCB wasn’t on mess hall staff.

wow
I’m more surprised that wasn’t a link to a certain PAWG.
The law of big number suggest that there probably is on PAWG in there somewhere.
“More than 25 percent of Hong Kong’s population of 7.4 million people protested this weekend. By proportion, these are the largest protests in modern history. Absolutely stunning.”

Oh, man. I really, really hope this doesn’t go south. I really, really, really hope China is smart about how they handle this, because there are a whole lot of ways this could go wrong.
About 22 years too late. Maybe, just maybe, if they had done this before they were handed over to the ChiComs, it might have made a difference.
After the ChiComs win this one, I wonder how many will emigrate. Or if they will be allowed to.
Agreed. The horse has left the barn; in a few years, Hong Kong will be just another Chinese megalopolis.
Work is a constant battle of deciding when to push back against management when they are wrong and when to just shrug and move on
.
It all depends on who has to maintain and support it moving forward.
“Last month’s school shooting in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado, claimed the life of an innocent child. Eight more were injured. In the way that this crime affects the victims and their families, the tragedy is similar to many previous incidents. But it also uniquely highlights a criminal justice challenge that has been the subject of debate: what to do with transgender criminals?
In the UK, where prisoners are classified primarily according to a policy of “self-identification,” recent controversy has focused on Karen White, a violent transgender woman who was moved to a male facility in 2018 after being accused of sexually assaulting multiple female prisoners. In the United States, where prisoners generally are classified according to their biological sex, the issue has been less prominent. However, that may soon change.
One of the two suspected shooters in Colorado is listed in court records as Maya McKinney, a 16-year-old female. However, the suspect now identifies as “Alec,” and has asked that male pronouns be used in all official proceedings—even though Alec is being housed in a female detention center. Social justice activists are demanding that neither the media nor the court “deadname” Alec by referring to the defendant’s legal and biological identity. The case, and others like it, may eventually push the United States to allow more trans prisoners to be housed in prisons that accord with their gender identity.
However, as someone who spent many years in several different U.S. prisons (I am writing under an assumed name), I can attest that, notwithstanding our society’s newfound respect for trans rights, the prison system is very much not built for gender fluidity. Even if Alec elected to go to a male prison following a conviction, granting that request would require all precedent to be overturned, if only for reasons of safety. His female anatomy would make him a rape target. Releasing a vagina of any variety into a land of deprived and often depraved men isn’t something any humane or reasonable warden would allow.”

But it also uniquely highlights a criminal justice challenge that has been the subject of debate: what to do with transgender criminals?
Put them in prison, which have been and always should be segregated by sex?
His female anatomy
Fuck off already.
Huh. So, I guess that means gender may be a social construct but sex isn’t, huh? Plus, I think “his” being in prison makes him a rape target. It’s just “his” bad luck that he’s got an additional cavity.
Honestly, though, if no humane or reasonable warden would release a prisoner into an environment where they are likely to be raped, well, I guess that means we don’t have any humane or reasonable wardens.
I’ve never been, but I’ve always assumed that prison, by definition, is an environment where one is likely to be raped.
Pretty much. And since convicts are broadly categorized as untermenschen, the public is ok with it.
Newsflash: only a small minority of convicts are psychopathic murderers; many are non-violent. However, even the psychopaths are human and deserving of protection from de facto 8A violations.
And prison guards make beat cops look like angels.
With apologies to any prison guards in the audience, I’ve been told by multiple sources that prison guards are people who wanted to be police but couldn’t quite hack the classroom aspect. So, essentially, prison guards are the people who weren’t smart enough to be in the law enforcement gig where they specifically avoid hiring people who are too smart.
My understanding is that writing out insults about prison guards is the best way to ensure no prison guard comes to learn about the insult.
Alec is not going to enjoy going to a male prison rather than a female prison. That is cruel and unusual punishment.
I say give the little rat what “he” wants.
“He” will be begging to be called Maya again in no time.
I was talking with my brother (a politically-active gay dude) about transgender topics.
He said that gender dysphoria was just another form of body dysphoria. If you walk into the emergency room and say your left arm is not part of your body and ask them to remove it, the doctor will say “No I won’t do that. Here have some pills that will make you feel better”. But if a guy walks into a doctor’s office and says his body is wrong and he should be a gal, then doctor will say “Congratulations, let me give you some hormones to change you into a girl.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_integrity_dysphoria
One could make a very convincing argument that gender dysphoria/transgenderism is a specific manifestation of this condition.
My brother went on to complain that teenagers that display same-sex attraction are being pushed towards hormone therapy to become trans instead of being recognized as simply being homosexual.
So that’s something I’ve wondered about. It seems like at some level the push to assert that you can be born in a body that doesn’t match your gender comes at the cost of implying that if you’re a man who is attracted to other men (or woman/women) it means that your body is wrong, not that that’s within the bounds of what “man” means. IOW, any normalization of transgenderness comes at the expense of the acceptance of homosexuality.
That is true. Transgenderism is a means of sterilizing, castrating, mutilating gay boys. Also, now popular bans on gay conversion therapy mean that an eight-year-old confused about his or her gender and wanting to see a therapist has no choice but going to the ones who push hormone therapy. Any other kind of therapy is banned.
Allow me to defend the transgender position. I understand your point and I find it to be unconscionable to allow children to transition, but is is possible that there are people who maybe don’t have homosexual tendencies who legitimately belief that they were born in the wrong body? Even if we accept that this is motivated by a mental disorder, I don’t see how that matters. A grown man who wants to transition seems like an informed choice
Excuse the numerous spelling mistakes. I am, how do they say, “not smart”
I can’t even, if that is accurate.
In 2015, Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian slapped a gag order on the Kleins, following the couple’s interview with Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins. During the interview, Aaron said among other things, “This fight is not over. We will continue to stand strong.”
“The Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries hereby orders [Aaron and Melissa Klein] to cease and desist from publishing, circulating, issuing or displaying, or causing to be published … any communication to the effect that any of the accommodations … will be refused, withheld from or denied to, or that any discrimination be made against, any person on account of their sexual orientation,” Avakian wrote.
“This effectively strips us of all our First Amendment rights,” wrote the Kleins on their Facebook page. “According to the state of Oregon we neither have freedom of religion or freedom of speech.”
i guess now it’s just a question of the lower court judge taking a hint.
I’m pretty sure that order prevents them from mounting a legal defense. A statement made to the court, for example, that their religious beliefs prohibit them from participating in gay weddings would be making a prohibited statement, after all.
How in the world is a gag order like that even vaguely constitutional?
The lower court is going to affirm its previous ruling and pretend like nothing happened.
Just a rule of thumb, opposing freedom of religion is actually just a fancy way of saying you oppose liberty. But, sure let’s pretend like your right to not stand for the national anthem; your right to send your kids to private schools; your right to home school your kids, and your right to avoid the draft weren’t rights fought for exclusively by religious minorities supported by larger religious groups. All of the liberal gains in America have been singularly won by religious groups.
Don’t forget your right not to be a slave.
I also forgot your right to free speech. We are taught in school that it was brave socialist union organizers that won that right, but that is a very small part of the story. You can thank a Jehovah Witness for your right to openly dissent from the most recent war
more on that gag order..
https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/oregon-bakers-statements-national-media-were-unlawful
tl;dr the Kleins said “this fight is not over” which is a forward-looking threat to commit further unlawful action but b/c it’s of a political nature is afforded 1A protections. Oregon fucked up.
Those in the know realized that DemSocs were always more concerned with eviscerating 1A than anything else, even more than eviscerating 2A. If you lose the ability to speak freely, you lose the ability to defend yourself in court and the ability to get your message out. Eventually they can control who you associate with, what opinions are “acceptable” and, eventually, what you think and feel (see: 1984).
Unfortunately, the general populace is going to realize this fact far too late for it to make any different.
Too many people on the left read books like “Brave New World”, “1984”, and “Harrison Bergeron” and decided they were “How To” manuals….
A Guardian investigation has found that hundreds of thousands of tons of US plastic are being shipped every year to poorly regulated developing countries around the globe for the dirty, labor-intensive process of recycling. The consequences for public health and the environment are grim.
Truly, a SHOCKING EXPOZAY, Shiirley. Next up, “Why do interstates get put in teh poors’ neighborhoods?”

Not like it’ll change anything.
I’d say Bernie-bros and wannabe Millennial socialists be forced to read this, but all they’d take from it would be “It’s gonna be different this time!”
https://thewriterinblack.com/2019/06/16/democratic-socialism/
Still worth a read.
Sometimes–maybe I’m being overly cynical here–it seems like the point of pushing for socialism, democratic or not, has nothing to do with equality, or fairness, or quality of life, or whatever terms they use to defend it. Sometimes it seems like they push for socialism precisely because it’s an opportunity to reorder society better to their liking. Forced labor isn’t a flaw, it’s the point.
proponents of socialism in this country are incapable of going from “we just want everyone to have healthcare” to “we have to tax everyone at 75% in order to pay doctors to give everyone free healthcare”.
Okay, which of you is vacationing in Poland right now?

Trump is triggering war hungry Republicans. Calling Iran tanker attacks “very minor”.
Please resign in protest, John Bolton
This was not meant as a response to you. Although, I am sure Poland is very lovely this time of year. How many Poles does it take to tell you the weather?
Trump has good instincts when it comes to war but he lacks the depth of knowledge and conviction to stand his ground on the issue.
Bingo
I also think that the “steady state” makes it inconsequential who the president is with regards to our foreign policy. I imagine that Obama had a disposition toward not intervening in other parts of the world, but the force of the “steady state” made such instincts irrelevant. The only difference between why Trump has not expanded our theaters of war, while Obama significantly expanded our theaters of war is primarily due to Obama trusting our intelligence community and Trump being suspicious of them considering how they tried to usurp his presidency.
My son and I have been watching a 2008 TV series – Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
I forgot how smokin’ Summer Glau and (esp. 2008 era) Lena Headey are – though, at my age, I prefer the latter over the former.
I watched way to much of that show for those reasons.
Have you watched Dredd? Headey is the villain. It’s great.
