Good Morning my Glibs and Gliberinas! And what a glorious morning it always is!
Sit back, relax, and enjoy Independence Day with some sweet summer tunes.
Have some hot fun in the summertime.
Even you city dwellers.
Have a nice sunny afternoon.
Hanging out at Rockaway Beach.
Walk around looking at the peaches.
Maybe go under the boardwalk.
And not have any summertime blues.
Enjoy it folks, as living is easy.
Sloopy and I sure will.
Thanks for the tunes!
Have a great 4th everyone!
Morning Banjos and all the Glibs
Music that even I know/enjoy. All others need not apply
Thanks Banjos.
Is Colin Kaepernick going to kneel all day?
[special holiday bonus golf clap]
Something something Winston’s mom.
Something something STEVE SMITH victims kneel the rest of their lives.
“Celebrating Independence Day is problematic because it is from a time when slavery was legal.”
She must have scored big in the talent portion cause…

that is quite the gap
Fall into the gap!
I certainly see how she won with those eyebrows and tooth gap.
And the apostrophe abuse….
Fittingly, in the sidebar next to her picture is a news article about Mad Magazine.
And THAT article was depressing. Mad Magazine will end newsstand sales and stop publisinhing original content next month. Fuck DC Comics! Is there anything they can’t ruin?
IF I was a racist I’d suggest that her tooth gap is for better expectoration of watermelon seeds but I’m not a racist so it’s cool.
Michael Strahan’s love child?
Go Bucks!!!
The nba is over. The bucks do have a shot next year though.
The nba is over.
I agree, it’s been unwatchable for years.
I suspect AJB is referring to the Ohio State Buckeyes. The unofficial theme song of at least the football team (maybe roundball too, but I don’t follow that at all) is Hang On Sloopy, which is also the Official Rock Song of the state of Ohio. It is sung at games, punctuated by chants of “O! (beat) H! (beat) I! (beat) O!” between lines of the chorus, complete with arm movements to form the letters. It is slightly more dignified than The Chicken Dance. Slightly. /Ohiosplaining
Correct. Thanks GT.
sounds dismal.
Also the Ohio nuts?
They’re equally dismal to the Michigan nuts.
Well, yeah – often disparagingly referred to by heathens who support That Team Up North as “a useless nut.” Upside: it gives all Ohioans a ready excuse to make and eat these.
Buckeyes are delish
*Eye’s Buckeye in back yard*
You mean I should be eating those things instead of raking them up and throwing them in the bushes?
We sing this every time we cross over the Ohio/Michigan state line on our way to and from Canada.
Ohhhhh, , we don’t give a damn about the whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan. We don’t give a damn about the whole state of Michigan, ’cause we’re from Ohio.
I shouldn’t admit this, but we’re planning a trip up to the U.P. next month. We’ll stay the first night at Maumee Bay State Park – still in Ohio – then dash across The Mitten just as fast as we can to minimize getting the stink on us, and stay just across The Big Bridge. I may need to learn the tune to your song. Is it anywhere out on the Intertoobz in a video?
Here you are:) I hear U.P. is very pretty.

Thanks! Does my heart good!

Aaaand the TSUN HS POY just committed to the Buckeyes this morning. Lol, those poor, miserable fucks can’t have anything.
Excellent!
I got a co-worker who visited Michigan last week. When he came back he was sick.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I will say the UP is God’s Country. I support the movement there to make it the 51st state.
Never been to the mitten, but since Detroit is in it I don’t have high hopes for it.
We are going off-interstate for the first stretch of the drive through The Mitten for the specific purpose of avoiding Detroit like the plague that it is.
51st state, eh? Yoopertopia?
Superior (or Superiorland; or Ontonagon)
Cool! But how do you calculate the area and circumference of an ontonagon?
By using your noggin?
/best I could come up with. *hangs head*
We did the same many times. Dad would always stop for gas right before heading into TSUN and refused to stop again until we hit Windsor.
My mom used to hang out at Lesourdesville Lake amusement park in Middletown when she was young and ride roller coasters with guys named Zehringer not knowing who they were.
LeSourdsville Lake was the best! Loved the sky ride over the lake!
We are…Penn State!
I’m sorry.
Yeah, Go Bucks!!!
Thank God for the school with the greatest golfer of all time, the greatest track athlete of all time and the only two-time Heisman winner.
Also, Fuck Michigan
Hey! I have it on good authority this is a Family Friendly website! Don’t say the “M” word!
Fuck Michigan
Happy belated birthday, dear friend.
Thanks, amigo. Happy Independence Day to you and the family.
ICYMI, V and I are moving to Seattle in September.
Oh wow. That’s news. Hope you guys enjoy it up there. The PNW is beautiful.
And Washington is a shall-issue state with legal open carry!
Good afternoon Glibs. On this the day of your Independence, let me tell you that I know your country is kind of horrible right now, but keep hope alive,… one day it may evolve to eliminate civilian guns, ban hate speech, get quality healthcare and housing for all and better passenger trains, just like civilized Europe.
[golf clap]
Don’t be a hater, Pie. It’s unbecoming.
And join the fight in climate change.
Goddamn it I had that on my mental list but forgot to add it
And high taxes, to even the playing field.
America is kind of, sort of, if you squint and don’t count guns, much more free than other countries.
First Amendment for the win!
True. I missed one.
First Amendment was invented by white male slave owners to keep minorities down.
That didn’t work out.
Personally I’m looking forward to paying reparations, it’s going to be awesome.
Since there aren’t any links to news items but just music, I hope this rant isn’t off-topic:
So Jared Lorenzen, the quarterback known as the “Hefty Lefty” because of his large size and being a lefty, died yesterday at the young age of 38. I mentioned this on a football forum, and what did everybody do?
Start up with their version of what I like to call the “Smug Diet”, namely the idea that their food choices are somehow virtuous and need to be proselytized, and everybody else’s food choices are evil. Big Business is making everybody fat, glyphosate is poisoning everybody, and so on.
It never ceases to amaze me how it’s allegedly OK to use people’s deaths for some forms of politicization but not others.
The kind of people that would go there probably hated football players in school so this is their little portion of schadenfreude that they can lock away in a heart-shaped box for their Hope Chest.
I often think of whatever the latest “moral” diet trend happens to be – organic, vegan, gluten-free, whatever food craze is being touted as somehow morally superior – as “The New Kosher” (with apologies to ((((those)))) who may actually choose to keep Kosher.)
This saddened me terribly. I always liked Lorenzen, just because he didn’t fit the mold of a typical QB.
Damn, I hadn’t heard that. It always used to tickle me to see a guy who looked like an offensive lineman playing QB. RIP.
Probably not a coincidence that almost every religion has food laws.
Shit, I didn’t know that. That’s really sad.
My sleep was disturbed last night by a high, keening noise which repeated every time I was just getting back to sleep. Either my house is haunted or I need to replace the toilet valve.
Happy Fourth of July, everyone.
Are you sure you weren’t hearing yourself start to snore?
That’s in a much lower range.
It’s not the valve, it’s the thermost…..I mean flapper. The flapper is leaking tank to bowl. Open the seat and look for any tiny streams down the side of the bowl.
The good thing is that it’s a cheap and easy fix.
I just replaced the gasket this morning (tower style inside tank). Now no squeal and no running. If I can do it, definitely easy.
Flappers will do that to you.
Even more spectacular
Ya know what Ted? I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t watched that one a time or two. Maybe you’re not all bad.
The world needs more Flappers and spiffy young gents.
The 20’s were the bees knees. Except for the whole Prohibition thingie.
I’m waiting for onions on belts to make a comeback. Come on hipsters!
Thanks.
Nice avatar pic, Banjos.
Agreed. The lady glibs really class up the joint.
Sloppy has excellent tastes.
*facepalm*
There are typos and then there are TYPOS.
It was auto-correct I swear! Sorry Sloopy!
“Next on the auction block a pair of balls formerly owned by the esteemed AlmightyJB! What do I hear for a starting bid?”
To echo the above, Banjos is a very attractive young lady. *sidles toward the nearest exit*
“I should point out these balls were only lightly used.”
I’ll fully admit that I missed the typo on first read and thought AlmightyJB wrote “Sloopy has excellent testes” and wondered what the hell Banjos changed her avatar to in order to garner that response.
Pics of her adorable children?
That’s actually what I was trying to say if my phone hadn’t so rudely interjected.
That shouldn’t count as water skiing.
I’m just relieved that the creature was still alive (for awhile).
Happy 4th!
*grumbles under his breath* “Apple polisher…”
Don’t any of you US Glibs work?
*Turns Rufus mode off*
Yes, a lot. But not today.
Good morning, Banjos and thanks for the great links, and also all the other times you do them.
Happy Independence Day to each and every one of you. I have 4 racks of ribs about to come out the 36 hour sous vide, an obscene amount of fireworks from freedom loving South Carolina, a liter of Wild Turkey 101, and a smorgasbord of cannabis both flower and concentrates. It’s my only day off and I’m gonna make it count. I love you all.
The TDS is going to be in triple digits today
“This is MAGA country!”

My cousin already posted a message about how he saw people pissing off the sidewalk, a porta potty tipped over, heard gunshots, and saw [people burning plastics last night! In his conservative area of San Diego! Then he asked is this is how you make America Great Again.
Nope. Texas A&M style tire bonfire.
Que?
Esto.
That I’m familiar with, I was actually working on campus when that happened. I was wondering about the “tire” part.
A few years after that happened I got an invitation to join a focus group run by some ambulance chasers testing out who they should sue and which theories they should use to cash in on that tragedy. It paid like $200, so I went.
The implacable hostility shown towards them by the Bryan/College Station residents brought a tear to my eye.
Also: if it still exists “Spice Bowl” on Texas Avenue South is some of the best Indian Food I’ve ever had, including in Londonistan.
I have two thoughts about that. First, that will be grist for the mill tonight. Second, I will be pissed if Trump turns the Washington Mall into a thinly disguised campaign rally today.
Mornin’ Banjos! Lotsa memories stirred up by the tunes today. Here’s one courtesy of my twelve year-old self possessed by the evil incarnation otherwise known as TedS. – https://youtu.be/oeGPpwFpIAA
You mean Ted’S.
Sound’s like some kind of syndrome.
You think your choice is evil?
Yike yike yike yike yike into the distance.
keep hope alive,… one day it may evolve to eliminate civilian guns, ban hate speech, get quality healthcare and housing for all and better passenger trains, just like civilized Europe.
You’re a good man, Pie. Your hope and prayers will sustain me in these dark times.
Here’s one that better suits my mood – https://youtu.be/PcT-xjnHCLA
Happy Independence Day to Justin Amash, who has left Team Red.
And I thought you were kidding. What’s he going to do, pull an “independent” Bernie and vote and caucus with Team Red the same way Bernie does with Team Blue?
He is far less loyal to the Team Red shit than Bernie is to the Team Blue shit. Then again, the Teams are both personality cults rather than serious alternatives.
I just want them far enough away from the levers of power so that Drumph can get his next supreme court pick to stave off the hordes for a little longer.
We do not need another Kavanaugh, and I think there’s zero chance of us getting another Gorsuch.
Everyone’s got their hopes up for the Prom Queen but she’d be a hard sell, even if half the population is hissing “Niiiiice!”
Our local rag carries WaPo stories. One recent one was headlined “With Kavanaugh On Bench, Court Takes Bumpy Right Turn” I couldn’t get myself to click on it.
I saw some banter about Amash being the Libertarian nominee, nothing like a little comedy in the early morning hours.
Doesn’t matter, his career is .ver. Now don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll get some cushy gig somewhere. But, I see no chance of reelection now.
over*
He is playing the long game if rumors of his Chinese entanglements are anything to go by.
Most likely he will march in my local parade today. Last year he had a protestor or two.
When does CNN hire him?
Given his oft stated opposition to everything Team Blue stands for, I’d say “never.”
Doesn’t matter as long as he’s willing to say “Trump Bad! Trump Evil! Trump Worst!” when prompted to do so by the newsreader.
Amash as LP candidate for 2020? Because that would be enough to draw me back to the party.
That would be very interesting.
Yeah, he’d have my vote as well. Although I’m still voting for Tulsi in the primary.
I doubt she’ll be in by the Tim I hold a primary.
I wouldn’t join that Team, but I’d vote for that candidate.
He would be the best of what is sure to be a bad lot.
His support for the illegal investigation of the Trump campaign and Trump is going to be hard for me to get past, though.
Yeah. The TDS would be very hard for me to overlook. Not because I am pro-Trump, but because I’m anti-crazy.
What You Lose When You Gain a Spouse
What if marriage is not the social good that so many believe and want it to be?
https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2019/07/case-against-marriage/591973/?utm_source=twitter&utm_term=2019-07-02T13%3A30%3A47&utm_campaign=the-atlantic&utm_medium=social&utm_content=edit-promo
Dunno if linked before, I tried to read it all but it is kinda of long and could say what it means in fewer words. But what struck me is this
“sociologists Natalia Sarkisian of Boston College and Naomi Gerstel of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst found that marriage actually weakens other social ties.” – this links to a study with lots of references to other studies etc and I realized that I do not have the time to check all those studies for quality and given the state of sociology I simply cannot trust any study in the field. So all this is meaningless imo. Especially since a recent book on how marriage is bad was based literally on not understanding survey questions.
But the gist of the aricle seems to be people in long term relationships focus more on one strong bond and less on many weaker ones which I am not sure why exactly is bad except it goes against the communal living dreams of some.
For example “Sarkisian and Gerstel point out that modern marriage comes with a cultural presumption of self-sufficiency. This is reflected in how young adults in the U.S. tend to postpone marriage until they can afford to live alone—rather than with family or roommates—and in the assumption that a married life should be one of total financial independence. This idea of self-sufficiency is also reflected in weddings themselves, which tend to emphasize the individuals getting married rather than the larger community they belong to”
Thats a whole heap load of stupid. It also has a whole bunch of smug indicators: the Atlantic, sociologists. Etc.
Yes, being happy and prosperous isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
“We are totally not going to take all of your guns. We are totally not trying to destroy the family. We are totally not trying to seize all of your property. We are totally not…”
/Lying sack o’ shit lefty
Anecdotally did you children talk significantly less to you after marriage?
Quite the opposite.
“which tend to emphasize the individuals getting married rather than the larger community they belong to”
:sigh: That’s why nobody from their community of friends comes and lavishes them with gifts so they can make it on their own. This is the rub. Self sufficiency is the key to any successful charitable program. They think it breaks the ties of community. You know what hurts a community? Having someone who expects to be taken care of but won’t take care of themselves.
“Especially since a recent book on how marriage is bad was based literally on not understanding survey questions.”
Was it written by Naomi Wolf?
In the long tradition of Marxist hostility to the family, because the Total State can countenance no rivals.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhh
So, we found out the toddler is deathly afraid of fireworks (she calls them poppers) , and thus didn’t even start to go to sleep until 11:00. Next door kept shooting them off until 12, meaning that every time they launched a mortar, she’d jolt awake screaming.
She ended up crying and screaming so much that her voice went hoarse and she developed a cough…
Send alcohol and a breakfast sandwich!
How about a martini garnished with bacon?
Send to you or the toddler?
False choice.
You’re giving the toddler alcohol for breakfast. I’d wait until the afternoon. You want her to be passed out when people are shooting the fireworks, not just hungover.
Hungover, with sparklers clutched in each sweaty, toddler fist! Murica!
You wish you could have this. First Jap attempt at a “burger” I was impressed with.
https://m.imgur.com/a/O0DDd3m
But… wha… is that meat?
Pork Belly.
I’m sorry man, and sorry for her. My girls hate “loud noises “, but are especially excited for fireworks this year.
Trashy, wtf time zone are you in?
The world of tomorrow!
DEclaration of Independence
Rep. Justin Amash, the only congressional Republican who publicly argues that President Donald Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct, announced Thursday he is quitting the GOP.
“Today, I am declaring my independence and leaving the Republican Party,” Amash wrote in a Washington Post op-ed Thursday morning. “No matter your circumstance, I’m asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us. I’m asking you to believe that we can do better than this two-party system — and to work toward it. If we continue to take America for granted, we will lose it.”
Go then. It will be a devastating loss, to be sure.
On one hand, good on him for being one of the first on the GOP side to defect without it being directly into the awaiting arms of the Donkeys.
On the other hand, this is the ultimate TDS virtue signal and a clear sign that the GOP is trying to primary him.
“On one hand, good on him for being one of the first on the GOP side to defect without it being directly into the awaiting arms of the Donkeys.”
Yea this wasn’t a power play. I haven’t been following this super close, but this was probably another thing to seal the deal in getting primaried. If he even wanted to run again
He’s already got a primary opponent. I think he saw the poll results and realized this was his last term. Shame, really. TDS is a helluva drug.
Maybe he’ll run for prez on the the LP ticket with Bill Weld.
Leaving the GOP is understandable. Thinking he has a future with the leftist event horizon, which is the only other option, might have been poor planning.
^This. He might be able to hold on to his seat as an Independent, though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhQql-ZbZmg
If he was leaving for a principled reason, I could respect that, hell, I’d support that. I don’t believe that’s the case though.

Happy 4th, fellow rebels. Celebrated it with just some beer and a trip to McDonald’s, but got a nice boozing and grilling on the beach on Saturday to make it up for it.
Hope y’all have a great one today.
You too, Raph! Happy “Murica Day!
Amash, a staunch libertarian, litigated the failures of the Republican Party, Congress and the American political system as a whole in his Post op-ed.
“The Republican Party, I believed, stood for limited government, economic freedom and individual liberty — principles that had made the American Dream possible for my family,” he wrote. “In recent years, though, I’ve become disenchanted with party politics and frightened by what I see from it. The two-party system has evolved into an existential threat to American principles and institutions.”
A staunch libertarian. Yeah, whatever. What we need is a one party system, so we can more effectively grind the unbelievers under our boot.
Consistently against FISA, War on Drugs, foreign intervention, corporate welfare, domestic spying, the carceral state… HE IS NOT OF THE BODY.
Maybe Team L might run someone decent this time around.
Maybe Team L might run someone decent this time around.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
[takes deep breath]
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Sorry, can’t stop laughing.
I don’t understand the disproportionate hate folks give him. Yes the impeachment stuff is bad. But he was quite liberty minded
If you’ve drunk the Trump Kool-Aid, he’s clearly a traitor.
We all are drinking Kool-Aid, just different flavors.
Or if, you know, you are disappointed that he has lost his shit a little bit with the RUSSIANS!!!11!! nonsense.
I suppose it’s sort of like ignoring all the uber-liberal positions of a candidate just because she agrees with one of yours.
True. I have always been a fan. It was real disappointing to see this dumbassery, but hey, aint none of us perfect. Don’t look too close at me.
I am still a fan.
Dammit
I refresh and see this
*goes for more paper towels*
against domestic spying
Except when it’s used on people he doesn’t like and everyone with a Russian accent.
grrizzly is right about spying. Amash is the kind of little shit who gives opportunists a bad name.
Amash said lots of good-sounding stuff but had no effect on government behavior. He’s Nick Gillespie with a bigger audience and a better retirement plan.
““The Republican Party, I believed, stood for limited government, economic freedom and individual liberty ”
Goddammit
*wipes coffee off of screen, shakes keyboard upside down*
Back in the Goldwater days, that was at least partially true.
+2
Hope you drink it black.
Because with that amount of coffee the milk and/or sugar will have ruined that keyboard for sure!
Should you not be drinking bourbon on 4th July?
We have three kinds that folks brought for us last weekend. They will all be sampled today.
Disney’s Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ Casts Halle Bailey as Ariel
https://variety.com/2019/film/news/little-mermaid-halle-bailey-chloe-x-halle-1203234294/
Two things:
One, all the diversity whining the left did will permanently give some the impression that such roles are not based on merit.
Two: are there no new ideas for films? Who needs a live action little mermaid? Some of these movies need to bomb hard so this sort of remake is no longer considered an automatic cash cow.
Ricardo Cortez was the ultimate Sam Spade.
Hawt
For a solid minute all I could think was: “I mean, she’s still a very attractive woman, don’t get me wrong, but isn’t she in her 50s now? Is she even still acting?” And then the money shot was when I realized the mistake I’d made, searched for “Halle Berry” on DuckDuckGo, and saw that the first results were for this chick.
Let me go on record as saying that I think this live-action remake thing Disney is doing is dumb. That said, it looks like Aladdin is going to be Guy Ritchie’s highest grossing movie ever, and it’s already made double its production cost. All of them seem to make a profit, so they’re not going anywhere soon. Expect live-action versions of every single Disney movie ever.
Also, my wife, who trends Progressive but didn’t know what “cisgender” meant the other day, thinks The Little Mermaid is creepy. I’d never really thought about it, but…yeah, it actually is.
I read it a Halle Berry too.
So when do we get live action Bambi, Fox and Hound, an Song if the South?
Road Runner would be fun. Or how about Pepe Le Pew?
Who will be wearing the bunny ears? Asking for a
furryfriend.I like the idea of a woke remake of “Song of the South, starring Jussie Smollett as Johnny and Meryl Streep as Uncle Remus.
“didn’t know what “cisgender” meant the other day”
Oh, do tell…
“, thinks The Little Mermaid is creepy.”
It really is. My girls love it, but the (Disney) story has no good morals to it. Young girl disobey’s her father, runs away, makes a deal she can’t keep, throws herself at a man, has that guy kill the person she was under contract with.
So, a political movie
The original story is even more fucked up.
Also works.
Both are money-printing machines.
They cast a flat chick as Belle, why not a black chick as Ariel?
Celebrity Showman President holds 4th of July Spectacular hosted by. . .John Stamos? Good lord… ///best timeline
Wonder if Stamos will get death threats from the tolerent left as well.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/ohio-firework-company-receives-multiple-bomb-threats-after-trump-tweets-out-praise
John Stamos is hosting? Dear sweet tuxedo t-shirt baby Jesus. I’m proud to be an American.
Stamos is hosting the PBS show Capitol Fourth, which has disassociated itself from the Trump stuff
Oh, I see. Never payed attention to this stuff before and likely won’t start now.
“incident occurred which resulted in all three police officers discharging their weapons,”
Oh, well then nevermind.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-jersey-officer-involved-shooting
“in an officer-involved shooting that reportedly unfolded around the time they were setting off fireworks”
Let’s writr this so as to not indicate the stupidity and incompetence in our heroes in blue.
Three cops open fire on unarmed men. Unless the victims were pointing Roman candles at the cops, I can’t see any justification. Confident prediction nothing else happens.
Still, early days, 48 hour rule applies.
Sort of undermines NJ’s belief only cops should have guns.
Remy: Stars and Stripes
I’m not a wealthy man*, but I do have a recurring monthly donation to IJ, so I get that warm fuzzy feeling every time they send out an email describing how they smacked down another law like that.
*I need a new career. I was thinking maybe electrician. Pros include confusing laypersons with arcane terminology so they don’t try to meddle in my work, and possibility of owning my own business someday. Thoughts?
+1 Master Tradesman.
If you have the skills and the temperament to own your own business then do it.
Do it. While I enjoy my current career I sometimes regret that I walked away from electrician after a year and a half of apprenticeship. It’s honest, challenging, and fulfilling work. Every day when you are done, you can look back and see the results of your labor and have a sense that you are helping make someone’s life easier or more enjoyable.
I am an industrial electrician and love my job.
Here’s a question. Why aren’t the people who are so distraught over Trump’s election win angry at the DNC for puking up such a shitty candidate?
I seem to recall at least of modicum of self-reflection on the part of Republicans about whether John Fucking McCain might not have been the wisest choice to put up against Obama, but maybe I’m wrong. I guess hubris and tunnel vision are incurable.
One might argue the case that, after two terms of BOOOOSH, no Republican on Earth could have won, but Hillary certainly has no excuse in that regard. I will go to the Great Beyond clinging to the conviction very few people voted FOR Donald Trump. They voted AGAINST Hillary.
She was the most qualified candidate in history. It wasn’t the Democrats fault. It was those dumb, deplorable, flyover bimbos who voted how their husbands told them to. / Feminist
If Hillary was running with this group of Democrats this year, she’d still be the leading candidate…and she’d still lose
There is certainly some truth to that but if. you go back and look at the Trump rallies they were packed and the crowds were energized. Hell they still are. He said all of the right things and now he is perceived as having done them. Plenty of people voted for Trump and they will again.
Jeebus, the Dem bench today looks like the lunch line in the cafeteria at a mental hospital. He is going to be re-elected.
“the Dem bench today looks like the lunch line in the cafeteria at a mental hospital”
Not to disparage the hospital patients but I’m stealing that line
I honestly don’t know why except they just hate Trump THAT much. If I were a moderate Dem, I’d be pissed as hell at the offerings that were shown at the 1st Debate.
Really as a moderate D, if they still exist, Groping Joe is your only choice.
But he keeps swinging more and more left to compete in the primary. If he gets the nomination he will probably almost be over where you live before he begins his rightward pivot.
I’m not sure he can make that as Trump will have a field day with him. Plus we all know the jet lag from Asia sucks.
Harris scares me more…
Bill Clinton was such a popular candidate among a generation of Democrats that they still can’t really let him go. Hillary is his wife, so basically as close as they can get to him. Plus she’s a woman. They refuse to believe that she’s not a very good candidate. If she didn’t win, it’s because of Russian interference, and if that’s not it, it’s because the Electoral College is a sham and the voters who didn’t vote for her are wrong.
The shine is wearing off Bill, too. The missus is not an asset
IT WAS THE RUSSIANS!!! THE RUSSIANS!!!!
For Christ’s sake, try to stay on message. There’s another election coming, and excuses for failure need to be pre-tested.
This tells me civil war is brewing in the US.
https://twitter.com/SethAMandel/status/1146426494798970881
There is a civil war brewing, but there will be about 8 people on both sides, and everyone else will go about their business.
I’ll be at the bar.
Amash is undoubtedly better than many. I don’t play Inside Politics. I’ll just fall back on First Principles.
Nobody ever ran for office so he could leave me the fuck alone.
535 skulls in a pile on the Capitol steps? I’ll vote for that.
Give me a guy that runs all his ideas through his principles and I’ll put my simple axiom (the government always will end up fucking the average person) up against him in predicting the future. Bet I come out ahead.
Stranger Things season 3 is out.
One, all the diversity whining the left did will permanently give some the impression that such roles are not based on merit.
Wait, what? Have you seen the size of Halle Berry’s boobs? That’s some serious merit, my friend.
Would all day
If Halle Berry was in that movie cavorting around in a pair of scallop shells I’d see it twice.
I’m sure there would be a lot of pausing as well.
Slo-mo.
Today and every day, I’m grateful to wake up in the most free, most prosperous, greatest country in the history of the world.
We’ve got our issues (a LOT of issues), but yes. This.
“America is the worst country, except for all the others.”
-Mark Twain
Globalism has turned this world into a mismash. If you have money, you are as free as you want. US is more free than the UK on the whole, but I’ve lived in three different countries and spent a lot of time in many other countries and I don’t see it. I still hold out hope for the US because of the first two amendments (Thanks, Festus for reminding me), but on the whole I haven’t noticed much difference in levels of freedom. Burdensome regulations and nanny state laws are everywhere if you want to live in the first world. I just don’t see the US measuring up in total on freedom any better than Japan or Holland or Portugal. Not bashing the US, just saying what I’ve experienced. *Again, guns and free speech excluded. Still, Japan doesn’t GAF what I say online.
“guns and free speech excluded”
My favorite two, without which you’re at the mercy of the State.
That’s why I hold out hope for the states. In my daily life, I’m as free as most Americans. Carve out a niche and stay the hell out of the state’s crosshairs. My motto.
Talk to me again on trash day at the “mansion”.
(I’m kidding of course – I don’t disagree.)
*Slurps on straw* I’m sorry, what were you saying?
Who was it (Hyperion?) that was positing he felt freer elsewhere in practice than in the US? Until the telescreen comes on telling me to keep up either exercises, day to day feels a lot freer than the nanny statism I know is out there.
Enjoy your freedom beer walking down the street!
It’s how I live in NYC.
Thanks for the callback, Straff! If Canada remains under Trudy’s control for much longer we will see the separation of the country in our lifetime. Ten provinces, three territories and roughly ten thousand “Native” nations squabbling over the pie. I won’t live long enough to see the eventual outcome but will have to suffer through the chaos that ensues. Maybe they’ll take mercy upon me and shove me off on an ice floe with wi-fi.
Decentralization. Do it or fade into tyranny of the self appointed elites.
But how can you exclude them if you are comparing the level of freedom? If the US is about equal excluding those things, then it must be the clear leader in freedom.
Or did I miss your point?
Free speech is basically no problem here from the Govt’s POV. Society will kick your ass if you say something way over the line. As for guns, you really don’t need them for self defense here. You just don’t have the same crime level. Now, if we’re talking about fighting an oppressive govt, there is no battle happening on that front right now. I’d rather they allowed greater gun rights, but at this point it’s irrelevant on the tyranny front. Apart from those two issues, Japan is infinitely better in their policing. You’d have to try really damn hard to get shot by a cop here. I’m talking “in total” and I realize the gun guys here would add more weight to that end of the scale.
“As for guns, you really don’t need them for self defense here.”
The RKBA is not predicated on need, it on fundamental human rights.
I was going to comment along those lines. Just because the current situation allows you free speech and you are so safe there is no need for firearms, doesn’t mean you are truly free.
Unpopular opinion here maybe, but gun rights aren’t the only measure of freedom. I agree that they are a fundamental human right, but I do add other things onto the scales. Again, the police force alone in Japan is a huge difference compared to the states.
I just skimmed the Wiki article on the Japanese constitution. I see that freedom of speech is guaranteed right.
What’s interesting to me is that with the obvious heavy involvement of the US in writing it, why no right to bear arms? Did the Japanese simply refuse to include it? Or did US officials fear an armed Japanese populous and hypocritically didn’t want it in there?
I’m not trying to say guns are the only measure, but (IMO) you need to dock a country a couple freedom points if it isn’t guaranteed.
They haven’t allowed the average peon to own firearms forever as far as I know. It really does suck because they would be a shining example of a peaceful country with firearms. The gang violence skews the numbers in the states, so I guess we have to rely on Switzerland for the time being.
Definitely, MIkeS. America’s gun laws with the passivity of Japanese police. Let’s make that country a reality.
Oft said – without the RKBA, how do you defend the others if someone decides you don’t really “need” them?
Not being allowed to arm one’s self is kind of baked into the definition of “peon.”
I’ll be in my bunk.
Mayberry brought to life.
Point taken. Knew that I should’ve rewritten that. Just saying that if you live in an area with a higher crime rate, a gun would be more useful than in an area without much crime.
Something something “…have and not need than…”
I’m not disagreeing. I have guns in a locker in the states.
Re: useful,
I get the same kind of mental experience shooting pistols that I would get practicing when martial arts.
Rifles on the other hand bring me no such mushin.
Would you rather have a gun for self defense if you lived in a dangerous neighborhood or in a safe one? I know the easy answer is, “Both!”. UK has seen knife attacks skyrocket. Japan hasn’t (outlier examples, blah, blah). You’d want a gun in the UK for self defense more than you would in the UK from a practical perspective. Ideologically, again, I agree in the fundamental premise.
If that’s responding to me, I was trying to distinguish “useful for self-defense” from “useful for making my life happier and more fulfilling.”
Though admittedly, some people don’t agree that the latter is even a thing.
Japan isn’t for you then, Not Adahn. No problem. Everybody prioritizes different aspects.
Well, and guns are no good against ninjas anyway.
Though I wonder how well one of those jo-wielding cops would fare against a yakuza shinobi.
Pretty well? All they have to do is slip the packet of yen inside their pocket if the yakuza movies are accurate.
*hands AJB a lit sparkler and a loaded 1911*
*Thanks Sean, then throws sparkler in air and shoots it in half*
Holidays get me down, in general, and this one does too.
So I’ll post a nice memory instead of bitching: when I was little we would all go to my grandma’s for the day. My mom’s two younger brothers never married, so it was a big family get-together, as there were six of us, and 3 of them.
I recall wearing this two-piece outfit that was halfway between a swimsuit and a romper (sorry, an outfit just for the girls).
We’d have burgers and hotdogs on the tiny hibachi grill in the tiny backyard of my grandma’s house, light sparklers all day (even way before it got dark out), dance around in the sprinkler, let popsicles melt on our hands (pretty much), and stay up too late.
Nice memory:)
“two-piece outfit that was halfway between a swimsuit and a romper”
That’s funny, I know exactly the one you mean. The instant I read that it took me back. My sister had the same one. It’s cute as hell. A shame I don’t see those anymore.
Sixties childhood flooding back. Thanks, Elspeth! We were like vermin back then. Kids everywhere and anywhere they shouldn’t ought to be. The streets are deserts now, so much so that when some little kids were playing in the ditch with boats last Spring I had to grab Wifey to come and watch.
That’s an interesting observation. Up until the maybe 2004 or so around here you had to be extra careful for the week or so after Christmas because of the kids in the streets trying out their new bikes and such. It’s deserted now with no kids anywhere and it’s kind of a sad sight to see.
I have repeatedly said the same thing. No kids outside with gloves and a ball, no school age kids in Aug with a football. I live in the woods and never, ever see kids/young adults, walking down the road with guns.
I do see 4 wheelers/snow mobiles zooming up and down the road but even they seem to be slackening off as 1 generation is getting older and fewer of the next generation have the interest or maybe the money. “Times, they are a-changin'” and
quickly it seems.
20-30 years from now will be a way different rural life style from now.
2 things
1) the proliferation of air conditioning
2) video games and on-demand videos
I’m trying my hardest to embrace my kid’s love of the outdoors so that she doesn’t end up like her mother (afraid of humidity and bugs)
I agree. Especially with air conditioning. Before, you were going to be hot no matter what so you might as well be outside. now, well, It’s really hot out there.
I remember as a kid making toothpick rafts to float down the drainage ditch.
And a flip side to the above. I live in a semi rural area. When I first moved here 15+ years ago, it was mostly older couples. As they’ve aged and moved on, younger families with children have come in. I see more kids now than I used.
We are lucky enough to be in a neighborhood where all the kids know each other, the parents know the kids, etc. Because of the pool & the elementary school nearby. So kids just make plans to meet up & ride bikes all day, like I used to do.
Sounds like y’all had great times. Wish you and loved ones a happy 4th of July.
Give me a guy that runs all his ideas through his principles and I’ll put my simple axiom (the government always will end up fucking the average person) up against him in predicting the future. Bet I come out ahead.
“I’m not a whore! But I could do with a nice meal in a fancy restaurant… Tomorrow, I’ll be a good girl.”
Today and every day, I’m grateful to wake up in the most free, most prosperous, greatest country in the history of the world.

No. The libertarian dreamland of Somalia.
Netflix to cut down on smoking depictions in future productions
At what point do they making smoking such a rebel attitude that it’s cool again? Related, Don’t they realize that if they make vaping products hard to get, people will just go back to the real stuff?
Everyone must be treated like children. / Statist everywhere.
“Don’t they realize that if they make vaping products hard to get, people will just go back to the real stuff?”
That’s the idea. Do you think they care more about tax revenue or people’s health?
“Netflix will also start including smoking information as a part of its ratings.”
Give me a break.
It’s like video game ratings where any game that has alcohol or tobacco is rated mature. Even if it’s only a game where you rule a country and have trade routes that include goods like alcohol and tobacco.
Fuck Tipper Gore. I know music was her thing, but still.
I know that Amash has taken some shit here for the impeachment thing, but he’s still the most liberty minded member of Congress, and outside of Massie it’s not really close.
Really, really hoping he’s on the LP 2020 ticket. Without Weld. Otherwise I’m writing in McAfee next year.
You don’t want to join me on the Trump Train? They have mediocre wine and burnt steak. What more could you ask for? //jk

Hawt.
The only shit I give him is for saying it was needed and then not doing anything. Which I will admit might be unfair because im not sure what it takes to file for impeachment. But other than that I think he’s done great. It’s sad that the country will loose one of the good ones because of this.
My thing is that of all things he could champion, this is his opening salvo in his possible campaign? Hey, I’m going to run as a libertarian/independent and my opening line is no different than what the two dozen Dems with TDS running for president have to say? Seriously, you can’t do better than that. It’s hard enough to get any traction without putting yourself at the end of an already long line of people with way bigger war chest than you. At least Tulsi differentiated herself. Talk about freedom, not orange man bad.
You and OWMC are right in that his track record apart from the Russian impeachment BS has been stellar. Still, that was a helluva thing to whiff on. Unelected bureaucrats scheming to illegally take down a president. How do you miss that?
I wonder if he’s party to classified info which he can’t reveal but which would have to come out during an impeachment or subsequent trial. Such info might be detrimental to parties other than Trump.
Wouldn’t he just say that though? I don’t think there’s a problem saying there’s classified info out there but you’re unable to discuss it further. The Dems would be trumpeting just that from the rooftops if that was the case.
Maybe, but that wasn’t the line he laid out in that tweet thread he put up defending his position. It was filled with vague nonsense. I’m sure they all have some dirt they are hiding, so you I don’t dismiss what you’re saying. He made it sound like he gave reason enough and, sorry, but no he didn’t.
They (OMWC and JB) don’t care that the secret police spies on everyone, frames opposition politicians and then tries to undo the elections. Why? I don’t know.
Of course I care. But that has nothing to do with this.
Besides, even if it did, I’m actually happy it’s applying to our “betters” instead of just to us proles, like it has since time immemorial.
Dude, don’t put that on their plates. They didn’t say that.
We are not on the Fearless Leader’s team. That is a high crime in many people’s eyes.
Actually, it would have been better if people not on Trump’s team denounced the secret police coup. Alas, they kept silent or actively supported it–like Amash.
Derschowitz.
Yep. The last good liberal. You can only see him on Hannity.
I just haven’t seen you or JB defending what the FBI did in relation to Trump. You can hate Trump and still think he was screwed by the deep state. I don’t mind that position at all.
That honestly seems like the most logical position to take.
It’s also possible to hate Trump and think that the country is better off now than it would have been this far into a It’s Her Turn presidency.
I just haven’t seen you or JB defending what the FBI did in relation to Trump. You can hate Trump and still think he was screwed by the deep state.
Sorry, dead thread, but if you qualify that as “attempted to be screwed by the deep state,” yes, I would absolutely agree. The deep state failed in their mission.
I bet you’re sad that the deep state failed.
GIMP Fight!!!!
Welp – my local watering hole closed its doors.
Luckily I have already found a new place; more dive bar and even greasier food, but less of a beer selection than the other place which had a large rotating collection of different Michigan beers.
Doesn’t rotating them kill the head?
Sorry, though.
Today is, of course, one of the high holy days for the virtue-signaling, fun-sucking crowd. For the past several days my FB (I know) feed has been inundated with increasingly hysterical screeds about how fireworks are traumatic to Ms A’s terrier, Ms B’s toddler (a notoriously light sleeper), the songbirds for whom Ms. C tirelessly advocates, and allegedly veterans who never speak for themselves on this (on my feed) but must rely on the services of Ms. D who is conspicuously silent on veterans issues the rest of the year.
I lovvvved fireworks when I was a kid. But the older I get, the less I like the War of Kosovo seemingly outside of my bedroom window – until 1 or 2 AM. But pay no attention to the grumpy old man.
I totally agree about the late night. And it’s been years since I let one off. But I’d rather put up with the noise a couple of nights a year rather than live in a world run by the neighborhood hysterics.
This is a neighborhood teeming with little kids and, yes, we get the same sort of neighborhood hysterics who want to ban fireworks within the suburb.
I don’t mind the 4th, but for fuck’s sake they start going off on like June 30 and they’ll keep going until Sunday night.
*nods vigorously *
Even though the shit show that was last night is documented up thread, I didnt bitch and moan to the neighbors. I planned ahead to try to mitigate damage by exposing the toddler to the fireworks before going home and putting her to bed. I’d have preferred them to spend less than 2 hours launching mortars, but it was over by 11:30 and it’s a single night per year. What would bitching the neighbors accomplish? Nothing.
So you hate animal and children. I am not surprised
Yeah, allofasudden I’m hearing about fireworks and veterans with PTSD.
Call me paranoid, but I think its yet another lefty attack on an American institution.
And, yeah, like every other activity that keeps other people from sleeping, it should be over by 10:00.
For years, it been for pets, then for vets, and latest is fire danger. The largest nearby city restricted fireworks to 7/3-4, 12/31, 1/1. As people get used to not having them, the noose will get tighter. Already I don’t hear or see fireworks especially illegal (bullshit) aerial ones.
It is of course totally illegal in NYC but tonight (and to a lesser extent, last night), I can look out my windows in three directions and catch a dozen or more little rooftop shows going on simultaneously just in my little neighborhood.
It’s not even dark here by 10.
We are down to only 15.5 hours of daylight now
/equinox sad
fuck me, solstice not equinox.
Not my fault you have DST.
*shakes cane*
Yeah, we had a report like that too here.
It seems just as staged as the “surprise billing” stuff.
“Netflix will also start including smoking information as a part of its ratings.”

To Everyone Whining About Trumps’ Independence Day Extravaganza – Styx
I LOVE not having to go into work and being able to cook enormous breakfasts.
This morning: broccoli and tomme omelet, hash browns, sausage, bacon, chocolate croissant and vast amounts of coffee. Starting on my second pot now.
“omelet”
And you call yourself a libertarian
The sausage was from William Buckley Farm and was produced and packaged without FDA required labeling!
Brocoli is disgusting
I thought your culture was all about the glorious brassicas?
Not brocoli. Didnt even see it in romania until like 10 15 years ago
Cauliflower yes and it as also disgusting when cooked, but glorious when pickeled
If by “cooked” you mean “boiled” then yes. But roasted, smoked or deep fried cauliflower is pretty amazing. Basically if you’re going to cook it you need to drive off some moisture.
N/B.: The broccoli in the U.S. has very large florets, you might be getting the tiny Chinese or Italian varieties.
I agree on roasted cauliflower. Yummy.
Re: pickled caluiflower, this article
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giardiniera
makes it seem like it’s a Chicago thing, but I can assure you it’s been wholeheartedly adopted by Tex-Mex cuisine too. Great on a buttered corn tortilla.
Broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi and tomatoes are meant to be eaten fresh in a salad. No cheese dip, please. They are full of nutrients and fiber. Cooking turns them into mush, no texture.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
― H.L. Mencken, On Politics: A Carnival of Buncombe
This was written 1936 or earlier, so has undoubtedly come true. And keeps coming true. Just look at the 25 or so pretenders to the 2020 throne.
Now off to hang out my thirteen star flag and do some virtue signaling of my own.
I hung out ours this morning. Only one on the block.
Better a moron than a cunning do-gooder.
I thought the punchline was supposed to be “cunning runt.”
I’ve been liking Lana del Rey’s version of “Summertime”.

People making ipa in new england are incapable of making it nice and clear and not murky. Lack of quality control is the problem with american beer.
I think that’s more of a factor of the quality of water available to them.
Vegas police fire officer who hesitated during mass shooting
Wow. At least he was honest about it, unlike that piece of shit Scot Peterson.
And he was training other cops.
I can’t completely fault the guy for freezing up, because, as much as I’d love to believe I’m a heroic guy, I don’t know how I’d respond. I was in two unexpected scenarios at work years ago. In one, I rushed forward to catch a guy who tripped and fell face-first out of a semi truck trailer. I acted without hesitation and he wasn’t hurt. In the second, I saw something fall from very high, and froze up. In this case I was 30 yards away with obstacles in between, but I was unable even to shout a warning. I have no idea how I’ll respond to the next emergency, if there is one.
However, shit like this makes by blood boil when people call cops heros. A hero would though training or nerves overcome his or her fear and act. And a truly heroic cop should have mentally rehearsed these scenarios and be prepared to act.
That’s just it. They are supposed to get the benefit of the doubt in every shooting because they are trained professionals (or so we are told.) If that’s so then I expect them to heroically charge into a gun battle to save us unarmed citizens. If a cop can’t or won’t do that then it’s time to find a different job.
That is right Atanarjuat. Talk is easy, but you don’t know what you will do until the time comes and you are looking it in the face up-close.
On your second point the way you overcome it is to just accept the fact that you are going to die. The only time I had to force myself into a deadly situation I said to myself “Well, at least now I know how it is going to happen.” and moved forward. The other guy that was with me froze, fell to his knees and started praying. I didn’t blame him.
*no atheists in the foxholes, my ass.*
Earlier in the season, my back yard was very entertaining with all the squirrels and chipmunks having litters. But now rodent puberty seems to be kicking in and their territoriality is reasserting itself. Hopefully that means I’ll see more birds.
I have a big rabbit living somewhere out back.
Yeah, I’m a sentimental old broad, so I’m gonna go here just to remind myself that it ain’t all about hot dogs and fireworks.
It’s also about beer.
July 4 and it’s freezing inside this morning. Still in low 50’s outside. Unseasonably cold.
Are temps were forecasted down to 85. Very muggy, like breathing water muggy out though.
Jealous. Already hot and muggy here.
You must be very far from North Floriduh.
Yes.
74% humidity which should drop on the way to the forecast 85F high.
Our forecast is 4 days in a row of mostly sunny and highs of 77-82. Even the prairie winds are supposed to be uncharacteristically low.
Fuck yeah! ‘Murica!
That can’t be right. I was told global warming will make NoDak uninhabitable.
In a sense that’s true. When all the people from the southern US move here to avoid the heat, it will become uninhabitable. Then, I’ll be moving in with Rufus or Festus.

What’s wrong with people? Maybe I’m wrong and a strong state is required to keep all these psychopaths at bay.
No. A strong state puts them in charge.
This. Over and over it’s this.
Boom. Truth.
Yeap
The left, always and everywhere the same. Collectivists don’t have a sound argument and rather than ceding the point they silence their opponent. When that doesn’t work they revert to the fist.
An old German once said to me “They (the nazis) were thought of as supermen with super intelligence by the rest of the world but they weren’t. They were just cheap thugs.” I have heard very similar things about the Soviets. The progressives here are no different.
*Holy fuck. I went out and mowed for less than two hours and started feeling the warning signs of heat stroke. It isn’t that hot yet today but the humidity must be close to 100%. You just cant drink enough water.
Yes you can
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyponatremia
I saw that happen to a guy at Ft Polk. Kept getting pushed to drink water but weren’t eating enough or supplementing it with electrolyte powder at the least, and went down. Had to be medevaced out of the field.
Is a cranberry vodka a good substitute for electrolyte powder? Cuz that’s what I am having now.
*Working in the woods in the summer, sometimes so hot that a short rain shower would turn into a fog, I would drink about 2 gallons in a day but I knew what I was doing. My jug was full of gatorade, not water.
Mmmm… that sounds good. I might have to have one of those later.
In college, I went on a weekend backpacking trip with a friend. He proceeded to spend all morning eating unsalted nuts and drinking pure water. About 4 hours in, he disappears into the woods for about 20 minutes with the shit shovel and reemerges pale and obviously not feeling good.
10 minutes of arguing later, I convince him to pop an electrolyte tab from my med kit while we wait for a park ranger to come pull us out. Right as the ranger pulls up, my buddy says “wow, I guess you were right. I feel lots better!”
An idiot friend of mine put himself in the hospital cleaning his un-ventilated basement with a mixture of cleaning products, when they released him they told him to drink plenty of water for the next few days….drank so much water he was back in the hospital three days later.
‘Murica aka nice butt.

Tattoos ruin it for me. YMMV.
I’m not a fan of tattoos but I wouldn’t let them get in way of a good time if the rest of the product is nice. A 9 can get away with more than a 6 when it comes to that stuff. Piercings are a bigger turn off to me I would say.
You just made my day. Nice Barrett.
I have a big rabbit living somewhere out back.

No no. Only government spending has multipliers. That’s why it’s better for the state to tax you and spend the plunder.

New York Bartenders Say Donald Trump Hasn’t Always Been Teetotal As He Claims
Collusion confirmed.
OMG IMPEEECH THE HUPOCRITE!
They found two people from the same bar and their decades-old recollections don’t even match.
You’re busted, Trump!!
What a shithole
America is the story of powerful people struggling to keep their disproportionate amount of power from people who are struggling for the power to be free.
The power to be free should have particular resonance on this Fourth of July in the eye of Donald Trump’s America. Resonance for all those struggling for the power to free those Latinx children and mothers and fathers from the terror and horror that is the southern border. Resonance for all those Americans struggling for the power to free humanity and Earth from the fatal grips of climate change, bigotry, and nuclear war. Do all those Americans really have the power to be free?
Wealthy white men certainly do. Disproportionate power and freedom. I live in Washington, D.C., but I won’t be anywhere near the celebration or political rally on the National Mall. I won’t be anywhere near the Lincoln Memorial on old grounds straining to hold up the weight of armored vehicles. I don’t want to see that tragedy or the walking tragedy of red MAGA hats moving around covered minds. I don’t want to hear verbal fireworks from President Trump, a speech that is liable to set anything within earshot that is true or loving on fire. Lincoln’s statue shall overlook Lincoln’s reincarnated old rival from the 1858 midterms, the pomp and circumstance of Senator Stephen Douglas of Illinois on steroids. And far away, somewhere, new Lincolns, in female and male and non-gender-conforming bodies, will be readying for the task of saving the Union that Lincoln did not save from Trumpism.
——–
I have always understood why humans resisted tyrants. But I never really understood why humans fully submitted to tyrants until I studied American history, until I entered Trump’s America and watched the patriots to tyranny. To believe freedom comes before power is to stifle the struggle to equalize power. It is to reinforce the power of the extremely wealthy white men who declared independence years ago. There is no more docile slave than one who believes he or she is free.
Okay, whatever. Take your meds.
Truly we live in Bizarro World.

“Bikini baristas” at Hillbilly Hotties in Everett, Wash., must flash a less skin after a federal appeals court upheld a ruling requiring more clothes to be worn by the women while serving coffee.
The owner of the drive-up coffee chain and five baristas sued the city of Everett, after two ordinances passed in 2017 requiring them to cover up. The city passed the ordinances after nearly 40 complaints from citizens.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Seattle ruled 3-0 against the coffee chain, Reuters reported. That means the previous ordinances stand and the women will be required by law to wear more than a bikini while serving customers
——-
The baristas who took issue with the laws claimed they were too vague to enforce, but the appeals court wrote that “a person of ordinary intelligence reading the ordinance in its entirety will be adequately informed about what body areas cannot be exposed or displayed.”
“All an officer must determine is whether the upper body (specifically, the breast/pectorals, stomach, back below the shoulder blades) and lower body (the buttocks, top three inches of legs below the buttocks, pubic area and genitals) are covered,” the court wrote.
To be sure, female independence and empowerment are admirable goals, in theory, but we must protect these women from themselves.
And besides, sex is icky and frightening.
Love how the page is littered with adverts and promos of… bikinis.
The Left are the new Puritans
“…too vague to enforce, but the appeals court wrote that “a person of ordinary intelligence reading the ordinance in its entirety will be adequately informed about what body areas cannot be exposed or displayed.”
Yeah, yeah, you know it when you. see it.
I am gonna argue that short of a full burkha there will always be some bluenose….sorry…person of ordinary intelligence….that will be offended. It is exactly the same justification for free speech. If you give in to someone being offended you end up with your hands and feet tied and your mouth gagged because there will always be someone, somewhere who will be offended. Fuck the ninth circus. The judges need to be disbarred and the court burned to the ground. They are a disgrace.
Oh, and one other thing. By their opinion “…all an officer has to determine…” is a recipe for disaster. Police ranks are infested with perverts. There is always gonna be that creep that will use this as a pretense for stalking and harassment of women he knows he will never get a date with. They just created a bunch of victims.
Really, fuck the 9th with a rusty chainsaw.
I can anecdotally agree. I had a friend who was a dispatcher and the amount of sex going on among those people was shocking. NTTAWWT, there just seemed to be a lot of it going on. And many of them were in supposedly “committed” relationships.
I went to court with a friend’s daughter. The cop manning the metal detector also confiscated all cell phones because none were allowed in court. He was also getting the phone numbers of all the girls he thought were cute from their phones somehow while they were in court. He would then call them up later and hit on them. That’s fucking creepy.
I also know of another cop that got banned from state property because he would hang around the battered women’s shelter and hit on them. Creepy.
I know of a lesbian cop that asked a straight girl out for a date and when the girl declined the cop pulled a gun on her and put it in her face and demanded a date. Psycho creep.
I could tell a thousand stories like that. Yes the ranks are infested.
Also, who in the fuck thinks that govt is empowered to tell people what they can or must wear for clothing? What is to stop them from mandating everyone wear black pajamas or wear their underwear on the outside? That is society’s job, not some gaggle of fuckwits in a statehouse. As soon as govt takes that role they are destroying propriety. They are usurping power from society at large…so it makes perfect sense they would do it.
This story really pissed me off.
My husband is currently setting up with his band in La Jolla for a July 4 event. Starts in less than an hour. I’m wondering where I can get a Bloody Mary.
Awesome! Tell him to kill it!
The killing has been underway for an hour now! Just 2 more to go—no breaks
3 hour set with no breaks? Damn. He’s gonna be one tired rocker when they’re done.
Tell him to kill it!
“If I had known it was harmless, I would have killed it myself.”
I watched that movie last week. Most of it, anyway; I kind of dozed off. It wasn’t as horrible as I had always feared it would be.
Also, who in the fuck thinks that govt is empowered to tell people what they can or must wear for clothing?
Kamala Harris.
Well, if congress wont act….
What I should have said is – If the elected representatives of the people wont act…
Happy Independence Day Glibs!
And to you, Tulpa!
May freedom forever ring!
