Hi guys. Sad news in the L household. My father-in-law passed away yesterday. Unexpectedly, but in a way they could keep him alive long enough for us to be with him when he passed. I’ll probably write something about the FL Department of Corrections’ mission to make that process as undignified and uncomfortable as possible for all involved. Thanks to the other Glibs for the support and links coverage.
Miami charity golf tournament cancelled after finding out strippers were going to volunteer to work it and their employer was a sponsor. What a bunch of prudes. Strippers can do charity work besides a sympathy tug job, you know.
One bad apple framed a whole damn bunch. Former Jackson County, FL deputy arrested on over 50 counts of falsifying evidence. But this is just an isolated incident, right?
Maybe this is too local, but I almost took my kids to this ice cream shop last weekend. What kind of horrible person pisses in an ice cream churn? Oh right, Florida Woman.
Who could possibly have seen this #metoo blowback?
Here’s one my father-in-law liked.
Sorry for your loss, Brett. And yes. This week sucks.
I am sorry for you and your family’s loss.
My condolences to you and your family, Brett. The decorative turd on this shit sundae of a week.
Condolences to you and your family, Brett.
Ditto.
My brief exposures to the criminal justice system (never as the bad guy [yet]) leads me to think that there’s nothing in Creation that will turn your heart blacker than working in the criminal justice system. Getting desensitized to anguish and learning to treat humans as subhuman seem to be the name of the game for a lot (but certainly not all) judges and prosecutors.
My father worked as a nurse in a prison for twenty seven years. Maintaining respect for patients and upholding their basic human dignity while knowing full well what they’ve done and working in a system that actively discourages treating inmates as anything but dangerous animals was very difficult; sometimes he failed, and sometimes he was the only one speaking out for his patients. The system is brutal and dehumanizing, and it’s effects aren’t limited to only one side of the bars.
Well-said, both of you.
Sorry for your loss Brett.
I couldn’t be a prosecutor or judge because of the the ridiculous amount of “noncriminal” criminal offenses.
OTH, from folks in my family that have – there are some seriously evil and bad people out there that I have no issues with not being in society.
My sympathies to you as well Brett.
At least your wife has a good dude to lean on in a time of sorrow like this. Condolences indeed.
Dude, why’d you out me? Not cool.
He meant Jimbo
Him too?
Sorry Brett, bad timing for all of this.
Wow, multiple cans of worms being opened here
Who is hurt more that I won Mrs L’s heart? Brett or Scruffy?
Sorry for your loss Brett. Pass along my sympathy to your wife.
Condolences Brett and family.
Saddened by your loss, Brett.
Condolences – lost my FIL 1.5 years ago; was tough on EF. Be there for your family,
Sorry for your family’s loss Brett.
Damn, Brett. Sorry to hear that.
Sorry for your loss Brett L.
I thought I had a bad week; now I feel like a dick.
Sorry to hear Brett. Condolences to all.
Condolences to you and your family. My own FIL died before I had a chance to meet him. Good that your family was able to be there.
My condolences to you and to your wife’s family, Brett.
Sorry for your loss, Brett. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
Reposting from the end of the prior thread.
NYC is going to spend $10k a month (per apartment) to house homeless families in Park Slope
You could get them luxury apartments in Manhattan for that. I’m guessing like 60% of this is going to graft? Even if you include the “social services” they’ll also be providing?
I’m convinced that most of the difference in the cost-of-living in NYC versus say central PA or South Carolina can be attributed to graft.
When I saw the amount, I thought it had to include construction costs. But no, all that is for rent. And “services”. For $250 a day, the services ought to include flying up all those poor underutilized strippers from Miami to do some charity work.
Yeah, I’ll repost too.
It comes with services. You can’t expect them to live there without free security and child care like some fucking POS who doesn’t let the state take care of him.
I’m fine with this. If you are going to have public housing, it’s preferable that they not just be clustered around the poor and middle class.
Yet as time goes on, they will be. Until everyone is restricted to government sanctioned moves.
For that price, I can get you 5 luxury apartments a month, and this isn’t the cheapest place in the country to live. Either that, or I can get you a hell of a nice home and 2 luxury cars, nothing the middle class peasants can afford. It pays to be a bum in NYC, I suppose.
More news: Tropical Storm Barry’s cone encompasses 77% of the oil rigs in the Gulf. About half of them are shut down in advance. Get ready for gas prices to shoot upwards.
Sorry for you and your family’s loss, Brett. I hope you all soon get to the point where you can remember the good times and not have it hurt too much.
Sorry for the loss Brett, be with your family, not we scoundrels around here,
Vaya con Dios,
The ice cream shop story reminded me of this: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/belle-delphine-herpes-bathwater/
So you can make money by just taking a bath? I don’t know about you Jesse, but I think I’ve made some wrong life choices.
Jesse takes baths in 55 gallon drums of lube then sells the lube. #messyjessejuice
ewww /teenage girl
My first W-2 job ever, as a 15 year old in 1976, was working at an ice cream store in a mall. Good times for $1.65/hour, the going minimum wage at the time. We did a lot of wacky things there, including once tossing the corporate owner’s son into a dumpster full of dripping half-empty ice cream cartons, but I don’t recall anyone peeing into the merchandise, at least not on my shifts.
P.S. Sorry for your loss, Brett. All good thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
So you are saying you got high on the nitrous oxide?
Really sorry, Brett. My condolences to you and the family.
So it wasn’t until watching Air Force One just now while incredibly high that I have noticed how insanely hackneyed the dialogue is here. The wife in particular. Was it always like this and I just never noticed before?
Sorry for your loss, Brett.
I’m willing to accept most anything in this group, but blaspheming against Air Force One is unacceptable. It’s nearly as bad as blaspheming against Con Air.
The effects are barely adequate even for the technology of the time, and the ancillary dramas after the main bad guy dies are so contrived. I USED TO LIKE THIS MOVIE HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE THIS BEFORE???
Getting high is not supposed to turn your brain on. I’d advise you to not watch any future films while high. Least of all Godzilla, if you like your avatar unironically.
This is good advice. Now Gojira has to explain how his critical thinking improves while he is high.
Gojira, I had the identical problem when I went to see Avengers Endgame in the theater. “These guys are just mouthing their lines! They’re so happy this whole thing is finally ending, they’re just going through the motions at this point. And how does a god get drunk and fat anyway?”
I made the mistake of rewatching Lynch’s Dune in hi-def. It definitely does not withstand the test of modern screens.
Uh, you. You thought it looked good on old tv’s?
Now Blade Runner 2049, holy shit that looks fantastic on an ubertv
Snakes on a Plane?
Air Force One and Con Air aren’t great in spite of being terrible. They are great *because they are terrible.*
Duh.
In the same vein as Face/Off, yep.
Was it always like this and I just never noticed before?
Naw, they changed it just to mess with you while you were incredibly high.
I think maybe so. I’m going to go watch something of quality to wash that out of my mind. Robot Jox here I come!
Sorry about your FIL, Brett. The passing of any Florida Man diminishes us all.
My prayers are with you and the L family.
Miami charity golf tournament cancelled after finding out strippers were going to volunteer to work it and their employer was a sponsor.
That “Miami youth basketball charity” (whatever the fuck that is) obviously doesn’t need the money. I hope a bunch of small would-be donors and former donors tell them that. The article has a promo poster and the strippers are all dressed quite modestly in suburban mom tennis outfits.
Youth basketball is definitely going to save those kids from the ghetto.
Worked for Will Smith…
I thought that was Scientology.
No. It was the one Little fight…
Well, remember when the last administration decided to invest in our nation’s children? Bad idea. The balanced breakfast program just created a generation of ultra-strong supercriminals. And midnight basketball taught them to function without sleep.
Is that you Hillary?
The line *did* apply to a (then fictional) Trump presidency…
“Superpredators” She oughta know – she married one.
BOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!
Switzy likes dad jokes nananana-na-na!
Kudos to the corporate press who publicized this event like it was beyond the pale. You are surely not the enemy of the people, just poor people, which is pretty on brand for white progressives.
Heather Foster is in the wood shop if you know what I mean.
If she asked me to not let any other women in my truck I’d tell my 4-year-old daughter to walk to school.
I was thinking Ms. Campbell can blowback my metoo any time she wants. That is one fine-looking 40 year old.
Also, condolences on your FIL’s passing.
Sorry for your loss, Brett. Your father-in-law had excellent taste in music.
Strippers can do charity work besides a sympathy tug job, you know.
Sure, but why would you want them to?
The guy seems more opposed to Trump than to strippers.
^^^This^^^
“tug job” Charity?
Did I miss something? This is a new thing, right?
Are you asking for tax deduction purposes?
THe government owes me a lot of back taxes.
A whole lot.
And my sympathy for the BrettL family.
Sometimes, you want to fire everyone and go home.
We took an order for two tractors with Bush Hogs last week for tomorrow. My employees rented one of the last two we had to someone else yesterday so I had to short the order, then I go out to find that the other store had been renting the Bush Hog with the damn blades on backwards and upside down, so it was beat to shit and not ready to go out. Who is that stupid?
Well…..when I worked for RSC in Alabama, we had a customer destroy a fairly new 8K Lull by deciding to remedy low hydrualic fluid by….adding diesel fuel to it.
We also had a guy rent a big John Deere excavator because he wanted to drege around the dock behind his house to be able to get a bigger boat in there, and ended up rolling it into the Magnolia River.
Coincidentally, I have had variants of both of those, diesel in the hydraulics (which doesn’t kill the unit immediately) and someone put a track loader in the creek.
I’ve also always found that equipment tends to break down on Fridays right after lunch.
I’m an industrial electrician and spend a lot of time “in the seat” of excavators, backhoes, lulls. I have a rule about Friday: I ain’t digging after 1 o’clock. Surefire way to hit a comm line or water main. Nope nope nope.
No, you’re right, didn’t kill it immediately – it was out on long term rent at a big condo job on the beach, and a while later they called us up on a service call because it stopped lifting.
I like that. How do you guys determine somebody put diesel in the hydraulics?
Also what does it do – just wreck seals or destroy the pump too?
I once backed a U-Haul down an East Cleveland alley that had a good 0.75 inches of clearance on either side of it with the mirrors retracted. Box truck, so no rear view mirror. Pulling forward out was pretty easy.
I purchased the full deductible that day.
Takes me 3 tries to get my boat in the water sideways. You’re a better and more careful driver that I am.
What’s up with the Charity tug jobs?
The ONLY thing I miss about having a boat is watching the circus at the ramp.
Priceless.
YouTube videos of docking disasters are a personal favorite.
We have relatives that live on a man made lagoon with boat docks. Favorite pastime is drinking on the deck and critiquing people docking their boats.
Boats range from little 10ft runabouts to 60ft and larger.
My Dad bought a ski boat when I was a kid. Something poorly designed, because it would swamp if you slowed down too fast.
He backed it in too fast at the ramp once and it slid right down to the bottom.
Had to have a scuba diver help get it out.
“The plug, where’s the damned plug”
I’ve seen Charity dance. Had no idea her last name was Tug-Jobs. Or that strippers were woke enough for hyphenated last names.
Thinking about this, I believe we should start a GoFundMe campaign to find a young man who’s last name is Tug. Then have him woo and marry Steve Jobs daughter just for the last name alone. How hard could it be to convince a young man to marry a gal who looks like this and probably has a couple hundred million in the bank?
People with no fucking skin on the game.
My shipping people shipped out a will call. I got a shrug when I asked why.
Customer was cool, but I wasn’t.
One of our drivers way back when I was in equipment rental told me once: “One thing you’ll never hear on a job site – ‘hey, careful with that, it’s rented!'”
“What’s that noise?”
Condolences, Brett.
From the Wakulla County story: “This is something we’re not proud of,” said Roberts, who plans to retire and not seek re-election next year. “No agency wants to go through this kind of situation and face the embarrassment of the public…”
Yeah, oh and maybe add something about how illegally locking up innocent people is wrong? At least, the guy has enough grace to be ashamed and to quit his job.
I suspect that it’s not shame, but rather expediency. He’s retiring after all.
You’re probably right.
Among that and other issues, if a non-officer was arrested with that big a supply of drugs as he apparently had they’d be up on trafficking charges.
Yup. And misdemeanor perjury charges? How much does it have to be to qualify for a felony?
New Jersey bears must be ashamed of themselves.
My 12 year old, arthritic golden retriever treed a bear in my back yard a few years ago. I usually took the dogs outside to do their bidness just before I went to bed. She smelled the bear as soon as I opened the patio door and took off after it. That sweet, grandmotherly dog nearly climbed the tree after it.
That’s when we realized that, maybe, we should put the trash cans inside the garage. And install some motion detection lights.
Don’t install bee hives, believing that bears might be afraid of them. They ain’t.
My neighbor has his hives on a little patio area above his garage. Its not an area where a bear would be comfortable – only about 3 feet wide and 1 story up from the driveway. He has 3 separate electric fence chargers just to keep the bears out of the hives.
[sharpens dykes]
No problems since I put on a new charger and moved the fence out a few feet. Got a game cam picture but not near the hives.
I thought about putting the bees in a deer stand and take down the ladder but too inconvenient to service the hives. I think we’re OK now, hope so anyway.
This is what I call “a challenge.”
Don’t leave any pic-a-nic baskets unattended, either.

And just like that a thousand cries of “freedom of association” were silenced by their pet issue being gored.
Was anyone on the left crying freedom of association lately? I’m not sure who you are referencing.
Social networking sites, chasing people out of restaurants, etc.
Oh that’s different because shut up. No body is *born* a rethugican, its a choice. Unlike who to marry, which is not.
Protected class status has gone from people, to a cake, to a flag, and now a dress. This is fine
Its a jumpsuit, shitlord.
Being gay is not a choice, Leap. But other than that…
I think the “choice “ aspect is a red here anyway. In as much as choice comes into play, it’s the operative part of freedom of conscience and thought.
“herring?”
Yes. And I’m talking about political persuasions not sexual.
Sarcasm and shades of grey don’t transmit over text well. I don’t mean what I wrote to be taken that way.
Boycotting states for legislation….
There was a good video about that (sorry, can’t remember who) pointing out the hypocrisy of smug celebs boycotting Georgia because of their new abortion law while many of the same people had filmed in Islamic countries.
Or even in Europe where the vast majority of countries have abortion limits comparable to Georgia’s (eight weeks) or twelve weeks (and other forbid abortion totally). The UK has the most permissive at 24 weeks.
“many of the same people had filmed in Islamic countries”
Sounds like a job for that kid from Breitbart who is so good at going undercover.
I think it’s more about tech companies refusing service to conservatives. Leftists won’t say freedom of association outright. They will say private business should be able to make decisions about whom they serve.
Until it’s a religious person who doesn’t want to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. Then progs be all over that.

the bruise on the inner thigh of the middle one is a turn off. it’s like she just got off the toilet and had her elbows on her thighs while she read dumping.
You were….awfully specific about that.
Obviously, that’s where she holds the aspirin.
At least she poops.
It was a little more nuanced than that, Newsweek, and I think you know that.
I think this is what bothers me the most about journalists. They write on a topic without any sort of nuance peddling some agenda…which I’m fine with if they admitted it.
The “politician who won’t meet with women privately” story reminded me about something I’d been wondering about Mike Pence. The popular perception of him is that he’s the stereotyped intolerant, Porky’s-bad-guy, thinks-A-Handmaid’s-Tale-is-fantasy fundamentalist bully. But, is there really any evidence to support that claim other than the fact that the usual suspects keep repeating it? I mean, yeah, I know the guy is a very religious Christian. But, is he really politically much more than a run-of-the-mill conservative?
That’s the problem, he really is a moral person and the commies hate him for it, he would act the same if he worked at home depot IMO
I wondered about this a while back and I thought the only argument was that he was governor when Indiana tried to pass a RFRA (the exact same RFRA that Obama voted for as a state senator in Illinois, modeled after the exact same RFRA that the federal government passed in the 90’s with near a near unanimous vote in both houses of congress). Jesse linked to something about support for conversion therapy, so I believe that is part of the reason.
Jesse linked to something about support for conversion therapy
I’d thought about that. And I thought I remember someone pointing out that the “support” for it amounted to not wanting it banned. I could be wrong here. That’s why I’m asking.
Jesse had the links. He made a pretty good argument to me before on this topic and I’m afraid I will not do it justice.
Its nothing more than the fact that he looks like Rev Stryker.
I don’t know about pence, but women are playing a game that will quickly result in men not caring about being called sexists

there’s some new hubbub in the gun control community taking John Lott’s GFZ statistic to the woodshed. Lott claims 97% but he has some issues with his early period data. the modern data period is 1998 through June 2019 and puts mass (4+) fatal public shootings in GFZs at 89% of the total. if you cherry pick and stop at 2015, then the number increases to about 94%. but still, about 90% for such a rare event is on solid ground and still a strong argument to get rid of GFZs. just don’t say 97% b/c that’s only a stat you see in Russian elections and Naomi Oreskes papers.
“Look at my p-values!”
What do you call it when you rub your p-values on someone’s back?
p-value inflation
Raging hard on.
/’80s slang
I know what HR calls it…
It also shows up in global warming polls as well.
You mean gun-grabber community. The gun control community is busy at the range trying to get it right.
John Lott engages in shaky statistical practices? Stop the presses.
I don’t know. I need a 97% to feel like there is a consensus.
Yeah, don’t rely on Lott. His work isn’t good. He’s got a lot of credentials (I.e. associated with good universities) because he’s a trailing spouse. It’s too bad, because I agree with him, but I don’t recommend citing him.
I won’t blacklist him entirely but he needs to tighten up.
He tends to overegg the pudding, is my impression.
A solid number of 89% over a 21 year period is more than good enough. No need to push too hard for 97%.
G-d, De Blasio is such a moron.
I’m as much a city boy as one can be and even I can easily recognize how dumb that is.
He was driving around Manhattan in his dually listening to the farm report, and wondered why commodities prices had shot up so dramatically.
I’m a dummy. What am i missing?
Iowa’s mostly industrial-scale corn crops which are harvested by the land-owner in a combine. Ain’t nobody looking for migrants – or anybody – to “pick” anything.
That’s what I was thinking.
” How many orchards are in Iowa? ”
Not to say there are none, but soybeans and corn are really picked. Now I’d he had mention meat packing plants. . . That’s more believable
Little early on the corn picking, probably. My garden corn has another 6-7 weeks before I get to pick an ear. I’m not surprised corn and soybeans haven’t been picked/harvested.
Buying corn out of a pickup truck on the side of the road season is just about the start, here.
Is that local corn? I see the garden markets have corn but I think its Missouri or some where in that area.
Yes, it is. Pickup trucks on the side of the road, in gas station parking lots, front yards. California would never allow that. I’d say we’re about a week or so away. Grain crops are already 3/4 dry.
Not harvest season
Well, that too.
Also, if Iowa is like Minnesoda, the farmers have been in full whine mode about the wet spring keeping them from planting crops.
Huh, I thought everyone loved a wet April IFYWIMAITYD
Before or after the turtles are done with her?
???
Sure would.
That’s what i was thinking, but i know locally, we get a few crops in a season, so it isn’t far fetched that it could be harvesting time for an early crop
I’m glad DeBlasio is upset about the feds paying some farmers to plow their crops under. He has my vote!
The notion of Deblasio appealing to anyone in Iowa makes me chuckle.
I’m very sorry for you and your family’s loss Brett.
Here’s something I never thought about but is apparently a thing: IVF mix-ups, where the fertility clinic gives someone the wrong embryo. Apparently it happens from time to time, and is most notable in cases like the one in the article where the baby pops out with a race other than that of either member of the couple who thought it was theirs. This, as you can imagine, creates a whole host of issues.
I had a friend’s friend have that happen in the delivery room. But no IVF was involved. You can imagine that creates an awkward time for all involved…
“Honey, can I still keep the push present?”
In that instance, at least one party involved shouldn’t have been surprised. But the fallout is probably worse.

Yeah, multiple ovulation can yield some fun results in sexually active, fertile females.
Just like some shitlord wipipo to complain because a little mixup sent them a black baby. RACISM!
Of course, if they didn’t complain and raised and loved the kid like there own, the same people would call RACISM on them too for not raising the black kid in culturally appropriate settings.

This guy helped with the move to legalize marijuana in Colorado. He’s a bit of a libertarian-type, so of course he’s kidnapping his fiance at the airport to get away from Arabs chasing him, waving a sword at passersby, etc.
they located a “sword made from metal and approximately two feet long,”
There’s just something about the way cops write that grinds my gears. Pretty sure if it isn’t made from metal, its not a sword, morons.
Although a two-foot-long sword is more of a bayonet.
Total length of two feet, I would call a short sword. I have a wakizashi that’s probably about that long.
Two shaku is typically considered the dividing line between long ans short nihonto.
So, 1.8 feet.
Sword!
I don’t think a $6 machete from Harbor Freight is something I would rely on in a sword fight.
Condolences to Brett for the passing.
And I would very much read a posting about the Department of Corrections shenanigans involved.

Haven’t had much time for posting this week. Had a blast with a Jackie Chan double feature at the Alamo on Tuesday night (4 hrs) – Police Story 1 & 2 – that’s why I go to the movies. Talk about a fun time.
Anyhoo….for the comics fans…wanted to recommend this Indiegogo before it ends – https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/kyrie-the-curse-of-the-macedonian-scroll/x/6734996#/ – looks like a good combo of Tintin and Asterix. Also Doug Tennapel is nearly up to $500k with his new Earthworm Jim indiegogo (easy to find). Impressive.
Speaking of tintin…I’ve been having a blast with the 4k remastered blu-ray edition of the 1913/1914 Fantomas – definitely a Tintin analog/precursor character in there. I can’t believe how good a job the restorers have done with these pics. (Thanks Kino).
Sorry for your family’s loss Brett
