Castle Rock, Colorado
While wandering around on a day off, we decided to try the Plum Creek “Riverwalk.” Wendy had the scooter charged, so we could go miles…and we did. It turns out that son and my hiking XP, combined with the wife’s power chair, gives us a long range, 3 miles one way on the first day, a real pretty place.
Meadows, Interstates, and a wild crippled woman on a scooter.
Here’s the 3 miles up, more meadows and too many rabbits for Bella to keep up with.
Some more stuff. Don’t walk on Colorado concrete or you stub toe very badly.
We are thinking of moving, cause this motel sucks, but Castle Rock is a nice place, good people, and relaxing. Until then, enjoy Colorado!
Bonus! View from a tall building
This is the view from the 24th floor of the Chase bank building in Denver, where we are stuck working,
I have never been in such a tall building, the Penthouse machinery is impressive.
Here’s what your cat does while you’re at work. I didn’t know she is a Bowie fan.
Until next time, Cheers!
(Why am I headed to Las Cruces? Mistakes happen in life, so you fix them.)
TALL CANS!
And while I’m at it…..hit that OBSCURE ISH!
Tall cans!
“Penthouse machinery”
A vibrator?
A Bob Guccione signed sybian
With a full range of attachments, and a battery backup.
battery backup? Ha!
We’re libertarians, it’s a gas powered, high-pollutin’ two-stroke!
?
Five minutes…. C’mon, glibs: We can do much better than that!
Wrong! There are two acceptable libertarian ways to power this:
1. onboard nuclear fission
2. orphan treadmill.
So four stroke is two strokes too many?
I never thought this would happen to me, but…I found an original ’57 Panhead in a barn.
Fuck off. Serious?
No, I was goofing on Penthouse forum letters from a machinery standpoint. If’n that were true, I’d be out riding around on it, or at least drinking beer and looking at it all day.
OOOOOH, I get it. I am slow sometimes especially after a few tequilas.
The letters ARE real!
There was a guy in my fraternity who sent in a letter which was a true story in 1980 and the Penthouse Forum section printed it — in fact, it was the first letter of the section that month. (Back then it was just a section in Penthouse itself, not its own magazine yet).
The one thing he did do was change the name of the woman he was with in the story — and he changed the name to Doris, which coincidentally was the first name of his ex-girlfriend, who still was in school with us. When news of his letter reached the real Doris (the guy was really proud his letter was printed, and told just about everyone on campus) she was furious, and thought it was a fake experience he’d made up about her, rather than just using her name for a true experience with a different chick.
So she went to the Dean of Students to make a formal complaint that her ex-boyfriend was writing bogus letters about her to Penthouse. In this era, about 40 years before MeToo, what could the Dean do? The guy denied it was his letter, and said people just were joking around because of the name. I don’t think there was ever any punishment. And the guy ended up marrying one of our fraternity ‘Little Sisters” who had laughed the loudest at reading the original letter.
I hate all these things.
And they hate you…
That’s a reoccurring pattern in my life, actually.
You forgot to add, “Not being a douche” to your list.
Agreed. Thanks for the photos Yusef!
Sometimes when you hit the road, the road hits back. (standard line when problems arise on a motorcycle trip)
I once worked with a guy whose MC handle was “Roadside”. I bet you can guess why.

It happened to my. My Dad has Clark Kent’s hair. My paternal grandfather… not so much.
maternal.
Yep, My Dad has more hair at 77 then I did at 20.
25 for me…
They say that, but my maternal grandfather had thinning hair towards the end. I’ve got my paternal grandfather’s hair: thick, dark brown, straight as an arrow, not so much as a hint of a receding hair line. Then there’s my daughter, who has curly blonde hair. If she didn’t have my wife’s face or my snarkiness I’d think she was switched at birth.
The milk-man really got around?
My aunt is blonde haired and blue eyed and kinda doesn’t look as much like the rest of her sisters. The obvious jokes were made, but there’s always been a little nervousness when the obligatory chuckles happen.
Sadly he did, meanwhile my G sons have beautiful willd Red hair
My mom was a red-head and birthed four sons with blond/brown hair. She had a sad, until two grandkids came along with fire-engine red hair.
Redheads have always been my achilles’s heel (I blame my 1st girlfriend in 5th grade).
Really? I’ve always considered them my boner fuel.
/can’t believe I just wrote “boner fuel”.
//Also, band name
Female ginger rock band.
Mmmm….I’ll definitely allow that. Soulless bunch that they are.
It can skip generations — it did for me.
My brother has a full Bob Newhart, but I still have a mostly full head of 99% brown hair. Same generation.
About 15 years ago, I was talking to my father (who was trying the combover) and mother that I apparently had lucked out and wasn’t going to lose my hair as I (still) had a lot to lose. He then said he didn’t start losing his hair until he was older than I was. My mother nearly rolled her eyes out of their sockets at that comment. Still pretty proud she didn’t break out laughing.

I’m not all that far from you right now. Unfortunately we have to go back to New Jersey (ugh) on Thursday.
Now I have 3/4 of my grandkids the 3 year old girl is, shall we say precocious…
Or a little bitch, I love it…
Why not “and”?
Trying to a nice poppa, try it sometime Ted
the 3 year old girl is, shall we say precocious
*nods in exasperation*
We had a 30 minute bout of hysterics with the 2 year old daughter because she wouldn’t try a bite of meatball. She’s had them before and liked them. We begged, we pleaded, we cajoled, we promised a popsicle. Nothing worked until we literally restrained her, kicking and screaming, and shoved the damn bite of meatball in her mouth. The instant it touched her tongue, she calmed down and in her normal voice said “popsicle!”
precocious, spawned from the underworld… tomato, tomahto
By the way Yusef, I really enjoy your check-ins from your wild and adventurous life!
Try the old “No, you can’t have this food; it is only for big people.” Frequently enough, you’ll hear “I’m a big girl (or boy, depending on what gender your tyke wants to be).”
Down goes the asparagus, or shrimp, or whatever xe was protesting against.
She’s too much of a people pleaser for that one to work, unfortunately. We’ve tried it in the past and she thinks the right thing to do is to give the food to one of us as a gift since it’s not for her.
Awww….!
We always took the approach “This is what’s for dinner. Eat it or go hungry.” He stomped off once. Came back later saying he was REALLY hungry. We said breakfact will be in the morning. Never any drama after that.
At about 18 months as an experiment I said “You can’t go play until you eay ALL your chocolate cake!!”
Suspicion confirmed – he had a tantrum.
^^ THIS ^^
Bribing a child to do something they are expected to do is always a bad idea. I understand frustration can makes giving in seem heaven sent, but it is always a bad idea.
I’ve tried that but my wife folds like a bad hand. I’ve explained to her in the past that even if our daughter really is hungry she’s not going to suffer any medical trauma from not eating for a ten hour period.

I love your travelogues
Yeah. I like that the fam takes walks together. The kid and I go all over the place by bicycle. It’s the highlight of my day.
Yes. Keep them coming Yusef!
Thanks Tulip
My oldest is turning into a good young man, takes out the trash, watches little sister, plays baseball and just a good guy, 11 years old,
Don’t you love it when they turn into Human Beings? You go from wanting to strangle your kids to wanting to have them as friends.
Best quote from one of the Indiana Jones flicks: “Right around the time you became interesting you moved out!”
My 6 year old (yes, Mr Splosives made me a step grandmamma) is a good kid, very kind, pretty obedient, sunny disposition.
His nearly 2 year old brother is a little shit in the making: knows he’s cute, tries to use it to his advantage, becomes quite violent. I’m not so sure he’ll just “grow out of it”
That’s called being 2. Lol.
Tell that to my 6 and a half year old.
Another year and a half and you won’t know anything about anything.
Oh hell, I’m getting that at 4.
I babysat the neighbor’s one of those a few times when I was a kid. Holy shit what a monster.
I should’ve posted my above comment here. It fits better here.
Ugh, that’s a tough one. Sometimes kids like that need one good, solid ass whuppin’ and they learn a little humility, or at least realistic threat assessment. Or, and this is the tricky bit, they start categorizing the world into things they can beat up and things they can’t beat up…yet. Some acquaintances of ours have a four-year-old and I swear to God he’s gonna shoot up a mall. The kid has more than one screw loose. I’m not even talking sociopath, I’m talking like total lack of anything like self-control. I’m not a corporal punishment guy, but I asked this kid to stop beating a toy train into the glass table at a child’s birthday party once and he looked at me like he was deciding whether or not to throw it at me. I won’t lie, if I didn’t know there was a baby camera in the room I might have had a long talk with the little bastard.
Enjoy the next two years or so before the next phase cuts in.
You can almost see my old apartment behind the cash register building. Evoking fond memories of cheap beer and slutty girls nights, Yusef. Thanks.

Is that 1 of the two weeks a year Wisconsin doesnt have snow/slush ?
Denver.
A number of years ago, ex-girlFIEND was in Denver for work. This was around the 2nd week of November, and we’d planed for her to stay over for the weekend, and I’d fly out, and we’d kick it in the (720). She’d never been on a snowmobile, so that was tops of our list of ‘couples things’. A few days before I was to leave, DIA got like 28″ of snow. The day I landed, it was 75º and there wasnt snow to be found anyplace south of Telluride.
We ended up finding a 4-wheeler place in Vail, and had to go up to around 7500′ to find snow to play in.
Yep. I’ve skied in shorts and t shirt more than a few times. Telluride is a long haul, though. Great snow.
I’ve always wanted to ski on my birthday, Aug 2. Saint Mary’s glacier used to be skiable year round, I’ve been told. This year, with the snowpack so great that the resorts were open July 4th, and this being my 50th, might be the year to do it. Or the year I break my foot neck.
Fool neck.
Mmmwe ski on the Texas Gulf Coast year round almost every year.
I did it once. Fun for the sake of doing it, but exhausting hauling your skis back up.
Well, the fact that I haven’t skied in decades, have no gear, and am using a 50 year old body doesn’t really get the enthusiasm going. It’s more like “you’ve wanted to do this, you’ve finally got the money to do this, and this is possibly the best conditions you’ll ever see to actually ski in August in Colorado…
IDK, I probably won’t do it.

You’re not very far from Castlewood Canyon. You should check it out, although most of the best trails are not scooter accessible, I’m pretty sure that the overlook is. Also, if you want to get a drink while here, you’re only 30 minutes from me.
I’m long gone from there, at the River now and heading to Phoenix for month, next week
Oh, disappointed.
Colorado to Phoenix in the summertime. You’ve pissed someone off. 😉
Ooh, also, have you checked out redrocks? Check online to make sure there’s no event, then the park, amphitheater, and museum are open and free. Handicapable access, and the park should be open even if there’s an event. Also, Coors factory tours, I believe free, accessible, with a free sample.
Horrible food, but Casa Bonita in Lakewood is pretty neat, too.
I have family that stills hits up Casa Bonita when they are in Denver to this day because it is the same as it was back in the 70’s. Horrible Mexican food with an experience. Cliff divers and fun atmosphere. I haven’t been there for decades and decades but my fam tells me it is the same. Very cool place for kids.
I have a buddy that swears the food isn’t bad if you order off the menu instead of going for one of the two all you eat meals you get in the line. Haven’t tried it yet.
Nice pictures Yusef!

Beto’s Mom. Lol.

Was he not mentioned in the video about AOC being run by the Justice Democrats on youtube posted my Mr Reagan?
IDK. I think his biggest problem is he’s a dweeb.
Oh, he is a total jackass but he raked in huge cash in the run against Cruz. Where is that money? He will never be President and I think he knows that. That is not why he is running.
He’s probably the tallest candidate which statistically should put him in front.
lol Beto is a twink. No one has ever said the following about Beto:
“Too tall to be president. Come clean my roof you monster. Your giant body will never fit in Washington DC.”
And, who hasn’t longed to hear that? Whispered in an ear by a lov-
Oh, sorry. What were you saying?
So… the least worst option among most of those other control-freak over-achievers?
They kept the real Beto under wraps when he was running against Cruz, but he doesn’t have the Biden operation to make it happen on the national stage.

Incidentally, when I saw Plum Creek, I thought you were doing Minnesoda.
You could have gone and seen the Laura Ingalls Wilder hole-in-the-ground.
My grandfather was born a couple miles south of there.
Heh, I didn’t know Walnut Grove was a real place.
Also a real place: China Grove.
Talkin’ ’bout the China Grove…

Ever since I lost my cherry I’ve gone plum crazy.

Jesus. Rinse and repeat in thousands of other milieus, no doubt. This shit is getting so tiresome.
It is. And I suspect not just to us, but ro the vast moderate, middle America. Meanwhile, the Democrat primaries are embracing this mindset 100%
When Trump wins again, because it’s him or this drivel, these idiots will still refuse to see how off putting this is to most normal people, and, I’m sure, will once again scream about Russia, Putin and the rise of American Nazism.
Sigh.
I was more disgusted at the picture of the dude knitting, to be honest.
Uh huh. And when some weird supernova throws us back into the paleolithic, and all you’ve got to wear is tyrannosaurus skin briefs, I’ll bet that then you’ll wish that ypu knew how to knit.
I’m not surprise someone of your kind is such simple-minded sexist tbqh
My wife is very much into knitting and mentioned this article. Lots of small part time businesses that rely on social media for marketing their businesses.
They are essentially being forced to take a stand or be doxxed or essentially deplatformed from the blow back.
On the plus side it may create a few more people fed up with the current PC trends.
It’s sad that a bunch of bullies can just ruin it for everyone else. It would be nice to see sites banning them and companies telling to go fuck themselves.
Fer fucks sake people have gotten dumb as dog shit.
This isn’t even dumb any more. It’s evil.
Nah, it’s not evil to lose an election and then try and frame your opponent despite his obvious innocence, have him and everyone who knows him put in prison and lose their livelihoods. That’s the moral high ground, right? They CARE about people!
But Trump is gross, see, so it’s different. He has almost certainly raped women and children and he’s both racist and antisemitic AND Islamophobic, and that evidence is going to pop up sooner or later, just wait.
Ugh, I just read the whole thing.
These people are even more evil than I was giving them credit for.
To use Arendt’s term, it’s banal evil. Dozens of little Torquemadas conducting freelance inquisitons to root out heresy.
The saddest part is the notion that the guy’s statement somehow is assumed to be valid mainly because he’s gay, not because it’s plainly true. This implies, of course, that it would be invalid should a heterosexual say the same thing.
I got to thinking, where are these people learning to behave like this? It’s gotta be their schooling. And if that’s the case, we’re in way more trouble than I thought.
Of all the weird little social justice microcosmic apocalypses, this is maybe the most entertaining and bizarre, for my money.
I was thinking the same. I read the entire article with my chin on the floor. No one could have possibly made up a story as fucking crazy as this knitting community. It’s beyond parody. A “good” Babylon Bee article would be that everyone hugged and made up, and knitted pussy hats for each other.
Seriously, this is some shit you’d see on Portlandia.
Social media might not make you dumb. You might have been dumb to begin with. But either way it give dumb people free rein over your life and livelihood.
Not dumb. Evil.
Thanks Yusef. I always enjoy your posts.
Agreed, thanks Yufus.
Clown in huge cruise ship buffet brawl as horrified families flee with ‘blood everywhere’
I’ve never been much of a cruise person – I’ve never been on one and have had a woman break up with me because I objected to her cruise love – but I imagine that they could be a pleasant experience. That being said, a cruise filled with Brits?
Oh My God.
In what way could it be enjoyable to be isolated on an area the size of a hotel, floating above fathoms of deep, dark water filled with who knows what beasties, while hoping that one of your fellow passengers doesn’t have the plague or that the oysters aren’t bad?
I’ve never been on one but I’ve heard they’re mostly about sitting around a pool at sea drinking overpriced drinks. I detest scheduled tours, and it would drive me nuts to get dropped off at some beautiful port of call and then be expected to follow a guide around. Even just having to be back at the ship in six hours would bother me.
Six hours? Why bother getting off the boat?
My wife went with my family on a cruise to Italy and it was one of these deals where they had the day at shore and then had to be back at the ship by dusk to hit the next city. So, right off the bat you’ve got to rush to get off the boat so you can run around Rome. Well, everything has a long-ass line, so you’re spending an hour in a line to see whatever. Now you’ve seen it, so you either try to wander to the next thing or get a cab. By the time you’ve done all this, you’ve spent maybe three hours doing anything and six hours standing around waiting or heading to the next site. Then you have to haul ass back to the ship.
So, I guess if you like sight-seeing but also like to be rushed and miss a whole lot of stuff that you’ll likely never have another chance to see, it’s great.
Eh, it depends on the port. We had 8 hours in Bar Harbor and that was plenty. Not because it wasn’t nice, but it’s small.
Not quite as good as a guy shooting himself in the nuts and dope falling out of his butt.
That’s what I was thinking.
We were all thinking it, Chafed. “Great minds”, and all.
I think you dodged a bullet, CJ. He’s holding up pretty well for his age, but, she really shouldn’t carry a torch for that guy (he’s a tad weird).

Hannah & Peter’s Windmill Date On ‘The Bachelorette’ Included One More Key Detail
Oh. My. God.
Yeah, so, first, like, she gave me a blowjob, right? Then I, you know, fucked her. And then like, we did it again in the windmill. Oh, and like, I didn’t even have a condom, and she was like, that’s ok, dude, I’m a major slut.
Right!? I can’t believe that shit is still on the air.
Wait…yes I can.
“The Bachelor” has been on the air since 2002, and since 2009 it has been a two-hour show. And America (a certain segment, but still) is still enthralled.
“The Bachelorette” has been on the air since 2003, and America still loves it.
The Kardashian show has been on the air since 2007.
Netflix paid $100 million to stream “Friends” until the end of this year.
“Friends,” “The Office,” and “Grey’s Anatomy” account for a huuuuuge chunk of Netflix’s viewership.
America is boring.
These days, I embrace boring with every fiber of my body.
What’s the old blessing? “May you live in uninteresting times”
The Kardashian’s show is still on? JFC
We honestly are in the early-mid stages of Idiocracy, aren’t we?
No sir, we are in the middle-to-late stages, and it is quite probably terminal.
Been that way for a long time, Friendo.
Monotonous pop culture (The MCU, those shows), Trump and every reaction – good and bad – to everything he says and does, the vast majority of our political leaders (they have always been trash but without social media it was far less evident, endless wars…we are in the middle of something. It’s not hopeless, because individuals are of course good, but part of having that good is to avoid the muck, and the muck is growing!. It’s GROWING!!!
More like the last 20 years of the Roman Empire.
One of the most iconic things to happen on this season’s Bachelorette
Just like I said in the PM links — there’s that damned “iconic” word in media again, and of course used inappropriately.
Most overused and misused word of 2019.
William Shatner Would Like To Be In Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek Movie
Yes, please.
I like William Shatner. He laughs at himself, which is always refreshing, and he’s a genuinely funny person.
And the album he did with Ben Folds is legit good. he best? song from that album.
Inspired to watch Shat’s version of Rocket Man, I put it on the youtubes and forgot Bernie Taupin was subjected to it, and also Shat’s facial sweat.
Man, the 70s were swinging.
Also, quite possibly the actual best cover of any song ever in the history of ever ever.
Shat’s Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is something on another plane, as well.
Here’s the best parody of quite possibly the actual best cover of any song ever in the history of ever ever.
Did everyone just skip over this???
Yes? I didn’t know it existed.

Yep, Bill is a good shit.
I mean he did kill at least one wife, so there’s that.

Do ya’ll think medicare for all will cover previously existing medical debt?
I’m debating in paying this month’s payment on the 10k birth and first month of life for my daughter.
Also, will Medicare for all retroactively pay me for the 50k of lost wages from my wife who had to quit her job when she got pregnant because her small business employer had to offer her expensive as fuck insurance that wasnt worth her keeping after pregnancy.
Just curious.
Will free college for all retroactively pay me the cost of a college education that I eschewed because it was too damn expensive and didnt have a good enough rate of return to warrant my investment.
Just asking.
No, no, and no.
You’re not their target demographic (lawbout useful idiots who need handouts to survive)

Do you work hard, plan ahead, and try to manage your money wisely? If so, then they don’t give a damn about you except to the extent they can steal your money and give it to those who don’t do any of those things.
Yes, that is exactly what govt is.
Nah, government is the entity that exercises the monopolistic control of the legal use of aggressive violence over a given geographical area.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Larkin Rose’s definition. I’ll take any definition indicates hatred of government.
I planned ahead by assuming democrats would institute the student loan forgiveness well before now, why you wanna ruin MY plans?!
Either you or I will end up being wiser. Only time will tell.
I finished paying mine off ~15 years ago. I can’t wait for that sweet refund.
Should’ve flipped houses in a govt fueled bubble. That’s capitalism.
The current bubble is stock prices, which my retirement is invested in through a 401k savings plan. I cant wait for it to bust and kill all the gains I have made since 2010. If it wasn’t for the employees match part of it, I would have been better off diverting that money into a stockpile of .223
FUCK even with the employer match, at the given rate of government spending and debt accumulation, I should have just started buying .223 when I was 19. Probably would have been a better investment.
Fitting that I’m at the bank right now forking over a few thousand dollars to my friendly local mafia.
“Do you work

Sorry you saved, I didn’t and we still end up even,

I was going to tell you how much I liked it. It’s my personal opinion that we don’t get enough Linus Roache these days. Well, not since, what, Season 2 of Vikings?
All right, Trump audio recorded, script written. Now I just gotta get into the headspace to sit alone and make cartoon voices.

Phoenix is no place to be in the summer.
Pffft, Phoenix is nothing compared to Yuma.
Yuma is an ice box compared to Gila Bend.
I guess I’ve never had a sense of Yuma.
Heh….when I had to get a Humvee license in Yuma, the motor t staff sergeant who ran the driving course was from Gila Bend. I know this because he told us about every 30 minutes. “I’m from Gila Bend, so I can just drink Dr Pepper all day instead of water”
The last day of the course, we had to drive to Gila Bend and back. In late July, with no A.C., wearing flaks and kevlars. Most miserably hot experience of my life.
Did you drink Dr Pepper on the way?

A good farmer is a man outstanding in his field.
But, I thought you lived on a lot of land….
I do, but it’s not a fuckin field.
And, I, of course, was just funnin’ ya. I’m sure it’s lovely, not-a-field land.
Please, Gavin; Take all that pent-up anger and self-righteousness, and just, you know, shove it right back up your ass.
We “need” those weapons, because of people like you, who think you and your cronies are the only ones who deserve them.
Then how the fuck did this happen!? *Points accusingly back at Newsome*
Tuffgai.
He’s really just a poon, in my view.
He’s an empty head spouting empty lines meant for other empty heads.
Interesting that SF is so full of shit after a Newsome mayoral-ship.
Huh. Well, goodnight all you wonderful people. I’m glad to have you.
What? So that’s it? “Good night, and good luck”?
/no, you didn’t actually say “good luck”….
Aight, I’m flip floppin to work overnight the next couple days, maybe I’ll post from a burner phone or maybe I won’t at all. Who knows. But as of now, I’m still on biological time, so time for a documentary and passing out.
Sure, run off to your…not-field!
Documentary = porn.
Well, when burner phones are brought in? Uh, yeah!
I’ve never been to El Paso. My assumption is these idiots will get arrested, beaten, or shot. And that’s by the locals.

Please let this happen. These hot house flowers need to meet the real world.
Yep–don’t care what EP is, in terms of politics: fuck with Texans, and we WILL defend ourselves in very stringent manners.
Now I may need to buy them bus tickets.

Bankroll Gambino is dead. Who could have possibly seen this coming?
Gambino? He don’t look like no paisano. I protest this egregious cultural appropriation!
Is Bankroll Gambino related to Childish Gambino?
KIND OF LAND STEVE SMITH LIKE. PLACE TO HIDE.
