Good morning to the Glibertariat! Because Banjos needed a day off, I figured I’d steal her theme.
And there’s such a wild mix of talents and experience here that I will try to take advantage of you. As I mentioned a week ago, after turning our lives upside down, my new employer decided to cut expenses, which included any new product development, which meant me. So I’m treading water. In the meantime, we’re faced with the disgusting reality of Obamacare. Our main issue is our prescription costs, since both SP and I are on a med that costs a rather staggering amount of money (in a relative sense, about $20 per day for each of us). So… I’m looking at either Mexico or Canada as a source, and wanted to see if any of you had experience with that. Advice and cautions will be gratefully received.
Besides being the anniversary of the Defenestration of Prague, there are some notable birthdays, including some long-winded chick; a Jew-hater who revolutionized our economy; a pretty damn excellent guitarist; the most copied inventor ever; a bass player who was just not quite good enough; and a chick who always checked her soda cans. Oh and WebDominatrix, whose Wikipedia entry I will not link to.
On to the news!
This is a Twitter link, but really well done and (in a sense) hit home for me. My old neighborhood. And what we actually get is kayfabe. Not that having the Feds step in would fix anything, the corruption an incompetence in local government there is too profound.
I’m failing to see the problem with allowing more export sales and trimming a bit from Saudi Arabia’s fortunes. Stupid law, I’m glad it’s dead.
I know, it’s not until tomorrow night, but we can still start drinking.
Sure sign of the end of civilization.
Rand Paul has pretty weak trolling skills.
Close your eyes and think of England.
Old Guy Music is from one of SP’s favorites, expressing the sentiment I feel.
I’m afraid not, sorry.
So – COBRA is less economic for you? It might cover the prescription.
Obamacare will definitely be cheaper than paying COBRA, but with the non-covered prescription the math may work to keep COBRA. Mind you COBRA is pricey! You pay your share plus your (former) employer’s share. If you aren’t eligible with you last employer because of length of employment you should be eligible under your previous employer’s plan.
Not COBRA eligible, unfortunately, the employer wasn’t large enough to trigger that.
Drat… let me think if I can come up with something.
Was your employer prior to the last employer large enough to require a health plain? And I’m outside my expertise with the dates – how long was your employment with the place in AZ?
I’m past the sixty day window with the previous employer. So not COBRA-eligible from them, either.
If we can just get the drugs at a reasonable price, we can get by. Thus my question about foreign sources.
Seems like this would be up Q’s ahem alley. He had, if I remember correctly, a link in one of his articles about sourcing prescriptions.
I don’t think they’re looking for Viagra.
Maybe they need breast enhancement pills, or whatever it is that causes ducklips, you don’t know.
Over 60 (?) and the drugs are free here. You may have to marry a local.
Now, are we talking NHS ‘Free’ where it costs more due to taxation and is still unavailable?
I imagine you’re stimming really badly right now.
I have no idea what that even means.
It’s how you soothe yourself when you’ve missed the beginning of Wapner.
Or lost a glove.
When I lived in San Diego, I regularly picked up prescription drugs in Tijuana. There are well established pharmacies that cater to Americans just across the border. I didn’t have any special drugs to get, but I never had any problems either.
You can apply with the hardship directly to the pharmaceutical company.
To keep the government off their back and for PR purposes the many companies will provide you a discounted supply for a reasonable time period.
My wife is successful with this for a non-covered script. She simply told the pharmaceutical company it was non-covered and they offered her a significant discount.
Yep – check with the manufacturers.
SP did. No dice.
As a newly-minted Albertan, if you contact me privately I can certainly check out the price for any med you may wish. I have no idea how you’d get ’em to Arizona, though, short of me getting on a plane with a bagful o’ goodies. ;-)
“Simpsons did it.”
Mr Splosives doctor in Minnesota gave him the contact information for a cooperative mail order joint in Canada he used with success.
I’ll see if he still has the name.
Many thanks! You have my email.
There are actually tour charters up north that take buses into Canada for that purpose. They might exist for Mexico as well.
When we first adopted TBE RV lifestyle our first neighbor lived in a 1.5 million dollar motor coach.
One day he fired her up and left for the border for 2 weeks to have some dental work done in Mexico.
I’ll enact some labor for you today in thanks for the entertainment you provide for me here a look around the www for some info.
Long time lurker here. My oldest has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and we buy his daily steroid from a firm in the Great White North. It wasn’t available here for the longest, so we were buying from Canada and the UK. Once it was available in the States, it cost about two luxury cars a year to get, so we are still buying from north of the border. The biggest drawback for it is really lead time. It usually takes 3-4 weeks to get to us, after going through customs and whatnot. It is absolutely cheaper by a couple of orders of magnitude to do this, so we keep a very close eye on what he has left on hand and order about 6 weeks out, just to be sure we have enough to cover him.
I’d be glad to give you the pharmacy we use, just let me know.
Wade and her boyfriend were delivering Amazon packages in Weatherford on July 5, when they saw a dachshund in a yard,
Whyyyyy? Of all the breeds, a dachshund?
Because they’re funny looking.
After video, I think it would harder to steal an unattended hot dog.
I love my dachshund, fuck you
Easy there, Friendo!
I am not your friend, pal.
I’m not your pal, buddy.
My family had a dachshund with an amazing personality. So did Norm MacDonald.
Love that breed.
My grandparents had one named Homer when I was a child. Great dog:)
Norm had an outstanding personality?
In fact, yes.
Just an easy layup, I really enjoy NM as well, OM
They are fantastic dogs. They have absolutely no idea that they are smaller than most other dogs.
When I was a kid, we had a family that lived a couple blocks away that were notoriously horrible people. They had a large black Shepherd mix named Satan, who they used to let run loose to chase the neighborhood kids.
One day, Satan came bounding into our yard where my sister and I were playing. Before we could react, our dachshund ran UNDER him and chomped his dick.
You never saw a dog that size run away so fast, with a yapping little dachshund running after him.
LOL!
They were bred to go after badgers, after all. The teeth on a Dachshund are something to behold.
Are they are maniacs. Hilarious though, I love them.
OMG are they ever. We have a mini wirehair. She looks like a little fuzzball, but when she snarls, damn she has some choppers. She’s old and lazy now, but in her youth she terrorized the small animals around the yard. Never did catch any squirrels or rabbits, but somehow she killed multiple birds.
“One day, Satan came bounding into our yard where my sister and I were playing.”
I KNEW IT!
..and you want us to believe it was a “dog”.
Don’t fuck with dachshunds… I had a similar experience where the dachshund took down one of my ex-BIL’s rottweiler with that tactic. Only he did not let go, and the rottweiler had to be taken to the vet for stitches. That rottwieler freaked out after that ever time it saw a small dog.
Ha – my wife’s aunt had a Dachshund that had to be temporarily quarantined, because she had a contractor come to the house and he went into the fenced backyard without checking first. The Dachshund went after his feet, he tripped and fell, and the Dachshund went right for his balls. The poor guy ended up needing stitches.
Quarantined? That sort of behaviour merits being put down.
Not really, he was defending his yard. The guy ignored the beware of dog sign and just walked through the gate. Most dogs will need a proper introduction to a stranger coming into their home.
Does not excuse a gonadal attack.
Yes, a dog is supposed to prevent access by strangers.
Yup. I have three dogs – an 85-pound boxer mix, a 105-pound German Shepherd, and a 20-pound Dachshund-Chihuahua mix. The Chiweenie is the boss of the house, he takes the big guys chew toys, decides when the pack is going to get up and play, chases the big guys away from the section of furniture he wants to sit on, etc. Once the Chiweenie was on my lap, and the GSD came over looking for some attention, and the Chiweenie put his teeth on the GSD’s snout and snarled. The GSD slowly backed away and went over to my wife instead.
This is why I don’t want a little dog if I’m forced* to accomodate one. Agressive little bastards. Something bigger and mellower would suit better.
*I don’t have pets. I don’t even keep plants. Nothing should be subjected to my ‘care’.
Yeah, when strangers come to our house the big guys are all “I love you, pet me love me, I love you” while the little guy just barks and threatens. At least he won’t actually put his teeth on a human.
Yeah, fuck little dogs. I have a GSD and if my next-door neighbor’s little kicking dog is out when I let my dog out it just yaps at my dog nonstop. Very annoying. No one needs that shit.
To be clear, I don’t dislike dachshunds. It’s more that you can go to just about every local animal shelter and have your pick of 5, often for free.
Really? Where do you live? Cause we’ve been looking for another one since the old one is getting up there in years, and we never see doxies at the shelters. Almost all the shelter dogs around here are medium or large sized, about half of them pit mixes.

No one here gets that far over the line. We may be too edgy for TOS but McAfee dials that up to 11 and then nukes it from orbit.

That is a great twitter feed. Trump should just post this without comment. Who am I kidding? He can’t do anything without comment.
Thankfully, I’ve never had to deal with full blown rats. Mice are bad enough when they come around (haven’t had evidence of any for over a year now).
The mice were like “ugh, these crumbs are flavorless” and left?

Is there or has there ever been an an Englishman with a more Rock and Roll name than Barriemore Barlow? We used to giggle when we’d read it on the album sleeves.
That rat picture is disturbing but “Frog Caught By His Foot In The Fan” is ne plus ultra.
It was a fan? I thought it was a Weber grill.
When I was a teen, our family once came home to find a strange clicking sound, and a horror-film scene as a rather large Indigo snake had found it’s way into the outside portion of the air-conditioner and had been caught unawares when the fan started up. After a day running in the Florida sun, the aroma of rotting snake permeated the whole house. It took weeks for that smell to go away.

Regarding prescriptions in Mexico……I never did this myself, but in the winter Yuma gets a ton of elderly snowbirds and they all cross the border to Algodones to buy medication. When you go to Algodones, as soon as you cross over you are overrun by guys promoting pharmacies. Most of the buildings near the border are pharmacies.
Same in Nogales.
The airport pharmacy in Cancun is supposed to be reliable. Otherwise, ask where the locals go.
The pharmacy next to my hotel had big advertisements for anabolic steroids in the window. It was hilarious.
Although buying steroids from a Mexican pharmacy is only slightly less scary than from some dude at the gym…
Yeah. My folks begin their wintering in AZ so they can hit Mexico for medication, then they move on to Florida. This probably won’t help, but give GoodRx a try. We use it for my daughter’s accutane and it drops the cost by more than 50%.

Apparently progressives are still fighting the Great SciFi War
A few days ago author Michael Z. Williamson was informed that his Wikipedia page had been “speedy deleted.”
Why? Because apparently, none of the references on the page were “credible,” despite being around for more than a decade, and his actual numerous published works are not considered as valid evidence of relevance. Apparently, it doesn’t matter how many books an author has published. They’re not relevant (unless the screeching social justice simians confirm that they are).
I read Freehold and found it rather… naive although slightly entertaining in parts

I can’t wait for all the blue on blue destruction & casualties. Nobody deserves this shit more than these identity politic pushing fucks.
I don’t think anyone could have predicted 20 years ago that this was the hill the ACLU was going to die on.
I peeked at that Twit – they are getting roasted by angry women, in that there thread.
Sounds like somebody needs to check their CIS-privilege.
The ACLU of 2019 isn’t the ACLU of 1999. They succumbed to a concentrated entryism effort in 2017 that kicked out the old guard and turned them into Extruded Progressive Advocacy Product.
The ACLU of 1999 was hardcore lefty as well. Nothing has changed except the masks all came off in 08 and they are still refusing to put them back on. Skokie was a PR stunt.
Yes of course they were hard core lefty. That’s not the point. They were still living the memory of defending Nazi’s marching through jewish neighborhoods and Clansmen burning crosses because it furthered the interest of civil liberties. They put the civil liberties fight before partisan point scoring. The 2017 People Power takeover changed all that, and now they pick their fights strictly on the basis of their defenders position on the stack.
Transgender people have the right to participate in sports consistent with who we are.
Yes, and if you are born with XY chromosomes, you are a man and should compete as such. What you (allegedly) imagine yourself to be is irrelevant.

“IT’S MA’AM!’

consistent with who we are
Correct. Men play against men and women play against women.
And this is why I’m less worried about the long-term threat from this iteration of the Left than many here – this intersectionality/progressive stack/identity politics nonsense is the absolute worst foundation for a mass movement imaginable. Libertarianism may be herding cats; Progressivism is herding cannibals.
It isn’t that you are herding them so much as they are running toward their next victim. All you did was convince them that that guy over there is a much better target for their next meal than you are.
The problem is that sooner or later, you run out of victims and then the mob starts getting smaller with every meal.

“OH, WON’T ANYONE THINK OF THE SPOOKS????!!!!”
What they are pissed off and scared shitless about is that after Obama weaponized these agencies to serve the democrats and their political power agenda, this new leadership will end up exposing (to the American public) the level of corruption and criminal behavior that became SOP during the Obama years, and then, once the seriousness of the criminal activity sinks in, demand real consequences for those of them that enthusiastically went along with every request for more criminal action by the Obama admin.
How do they sustain the energy to keep RHEEEING constantly?
They are outsourcing it….

“If Ratcliffe is confirmed, it will be by and large the most dangerous assault on the intelligence community that we have ever seen so far.”
If only.
That was my thought as well.
Of all the interactions with Mueller at the hearing, Ratcliffe’s was the most deadly to Mueller, IMO. Was he chosen before the hearing or did that performance bump him up a short list?
“He would keep all the secrets. If he sits at the top of the 17 intelligence agencies, he will keep what the president wants secret”
Isn’t that his job? I mean I can agree that the state shouldn’t need so many secrets, but the speaker probably doesn’t. So is it that he won’t leak secrets?
Of course. But it’s the opposite that they are actually afraid of. That Trump will have somebody willing to release information they want to be kept secret.
Crying After Sex Is More Common Than You Think
There are good cries and bad cries. If she is crying cause it rocked her world you are doing good. If she is crying for some other reason, then you fucked up (including potentially going into the wrong hole). But I stand by my take that as long as it is not the guy crying, it is not a bad thing. Guys that cry are just doing it wrong and might need to give up their manhood card.
The difference between weepy sobbing and excuse-me-this-room-is-really-dusty.
I think you are being a bit harsh Alex. What if the manicurist fucks up your pedi right before your big date? Are you so heartless that you would scorn a man for crying in that situation?
I guess I will have to go through life labeled as an uncaring fuck then your holiness. Guys are only allowed to cry when sex is involved in the following conditions:
1. She is fugly and used a gun to force the deed
2. She used too much teeth.
3. Her snapper has teeth and now you have injuries.
You forgot pepper spray.
That will hurt when applied to the privates, so true….
I prefer Japanese pron where they cry during sex and giggle after.

Democrats so white
Allison Jaslow, executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), resigned on Monday amid complaints that the DCCC is too white. No, seriously, that’s the complaint. Black and Hispanic lawmakers say the DCCC, the Democrats’ major campaign arm, lacks racial diversity and is not doing enough to reach Latino voters and hire consultants of color.
On Sunday, Hispanic Reps. Vicente González (D-Texas) and Filemon Vela (D-Texas) called for Jaslow’s resignation in a statement to Politico. DCCC Chairwoman Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) flew back to Washington, D.C., for a meeting Monday, despite having left with the rest of Congress for the August recess. Jaslow resigned at that meeting, Politico reported.
“The DCCC is now in complete chaos,” Gonzalez and Vela said in their statement. “The single most immediate action that Cheri Bustos can take to restore confidence in the organization and to promote diversity is to appoint a qualified person of color, of which there are many, as executive director at once. We find the silence of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on this issue to be deafening.”
The DCCC claimed that 13 out of its 27 senior staffers are members of racial minorities, but Democratic lawmakers disputed that claim, saying only a few of those non-white staff are actually working in the campaign arm’s management.
I thought we were supposed to judge others by the content of their character and not their skin pigment.
That was before, when the struggle was real.
…and the true reason is right there – “and hire consultants of color”. WHYCOME MY PEOPLE CANNOT WET THEIR BEAKS?
Yep
I thought we were supposed to judge others by the content of their character and not their skin pigment. – that will only come when all the racism has been defeated. Systemic oppression.

Or, maybe change the incentives for the financial aid?
How about getting government out of the whole thing?
Now, that’s just crazy talk!
But then who will pick the winners and losers?
Have no doubt this sort of shit is all about this specific requirement. Social Justice means government gets to choose whom floats and whom sinks based on totally arbitrary shit.
It isn’t arbitrary at all. You may oppose their goals, but the left is NOT picking arbitrary criteria; they are picking criteria designed to increase their voting base. The only thing slowing them down is that they let the true believers loose too soon and chased away the blue collar contingent before they had fill control.
The incentive is…avoid or die!
The wealthy have been getting themselves on the dole since the time of Julius Cesar. At this point, do you blame the player or the game?
Imma h8 both.
This is the correct response.
Interesting that you brought up your son. My kid is on summer vacation and the effect it’s had on her personality is amazing. Fun loving, curious, happy little girl that I missed is back. Once school starts in the end of August (elementary), it will be back to her resigned attitude of heading to quasi prison. It’s breaking my heart TBH. Been looking at private schools for her junior high school. Crazy, but Soka Gakkai so far has been the best I’ve found. Some call them a cult. Hell, a cult would be better than the life sapping public schools.
It must be her father’s genes that are rebelling!
I would not do well with the structure that is Japanese education. I would also not do well with the structure that makes up a traditional Japanese company. I’d be reading my manger the riot act.
Oddly enough there are also some Catholic schools in Japan – are any of those a candidate? As a former Catholic school educated person I can confirm there are some downsides there as well of course…
Went to one myself for elementary school, but haven’t actually visited an open campus for one, yet.
Uffda. That was my dilemma. Parents didn’t help with my college (they didn’t offer, I didn’t ask), but when I applied for financial aid I was screwed because they made too much money for my own good.
Then I got in the trap of working my ass off to pay for college and ended up making enough so that I again didn’t qualify for financial aid. Meanwhile my buddy from high school who’s parents weren’t as well off, got shit tons of grants and never worked a day during his school.
The Paltry Hopes of the Libertarian Moment
Libertarianism is officially dead.
I thought Niskanen Center officially renounced libertarianism, no?
Yeah, Taylor fully embraced utilitarianism and its amoral wonders.
Libertarianism has never sputtered to life politically but it maintains a toe-hold philosophically. Thus it ever was. We still have us, though. So we’ve got that going for us.
Us? Fuck off Tulpa!
Meh. I’m a soft libertarian. I like most of the concepts but I wouldn’t canvass for the Party.
In the weeks prior to me removing Niskanen from my RSS reader, they produced a string of articles all promoting state intervention in society and the economy to nudge things in a ‘better’ direction. In two cases their entire rationale was utterly fascist.
And then when you look at who’s bankrolling the turkey, you see the Rockefeller family’s keiretsu dominating. So basically, they are the Rockefeller progressive/lite-fascism movement dressed up in a Libertarian skin suit prancing around.
GoFund Me for OMWC and SP? If we set one up and rocknroll we should be able to cover your meds for a while

NO.
WHYCOME NOT?
What kind of a pimp would OMWC be if SP got her drugs from charity instead of walking the streets for it?
I do not get the impression the power structure in the OMWCSP household works the way you imply.

Our org chart is simple. SP is the CEO/COO/CFO. Beneath her are two reports, the CTO and the Wonder Dog. Wonder Dog has OMWC’s mom reporting to her.
Two major reasons:
1. We just don’t do that.
2. Having our identities out there will pretty much guarantee that neither or us will ever be able to secure more work.

These idiots have yet to prove me wrong.
Why are they feeling low and sullen? They should be happy their President isn’t the crook they believe (and were lied to) he is.
I just don’t get these twits.
It’s like when they react badly whenever the catastrophe that’s supposed to attack us because of climate change never pans out. They get all angry.
There’s a strange psychosis going on in their heads.
Part of it is investing so much belief and energy into something without much critical thought they react manically whenever it’s disproven.
They’re like, well, children.
People in doomsday cults get bummed when they lose the ability to wow the morons with “I told you so” predictions.
” They should be happy their President isn’t the crook they believe (and were lied to) he is.”
Empiricism is a fraud. Everyone knows what they are looking for. They just need the evidence.
Wow. You know who else called their political and cultural opponents “sewer rats”?
The Mayor of Baltimore?
The rats area closer political allies than Trump.
one of the most beloved, decent, smart, and talented men to ever occupy that office
I find your fawning adoration disturbing.
one of the most beloved, decent, smart, and talented men to ever occupy that officethe biggest piece of crap since Woodrow Wilson
Better?
Who loves a politician? I like, say, Thomas Massie, but I’m not dumb enough to pour all my hopes and dreams into him and worship him as a god.
We get one of my wife’s medications from Canada, not because of cost, but because it is no longer approved here in the U.S. because a couple of people used it off-label 40 years ago with bad results. I don’t remember the name of the pharmacy offhand, but I think it’s this one.
You will have to fax them a prescription and then they will take payment via credit card and mail you the meds. We have never had anything intercepted at the border, despite the package being clearly labeled as being from a pharmacy.
That twitter links was astonishing. Not surprising. Cummings is a real piece of shit and is dining in fucking Venice while all this is happening?
My question is why does he kept getting elected?
Trump is a leader. He’s going after the cancer.
Who’s going to primary him?
Weld.
Seriously.
Well, technically.
But not seriously.
I meant Cummings.
SN, Cummings is far enough to the left to avoid that. Also, he was called out by the BadOrangeMan, so lefty bonus points.
RC, I’d be surprised if he matched the 3% he got with GaryJ
Oh I know. It was a rhetorical question.
This guy is trying to save the NRA. I like his idea of using the NRA’s tactics against itself. He has started grading the NRA Board Members on how well the represent the interests of the organization and its members.
Good for him. I hope the NRA is once again an organization I can join.
It would be nice to have an NRA that wasn’t just the bumbling, half-useful “boogie-man to the left”.

Tard Tuesday: Kneel Before Greta, Climate Queen
Is it wrong of me to hope for a North Atlantic climate disaster while she’s en route?
Her parents are using her. She’s apparently mentally ill.
So for me. The parents deserve eternal scorn.
Unless I’m wrong, they push a political climate agenda, scare their daughter who is not well and kids her age, and then use them as pawns to further expand the agenda.
How this is not child abuse is beyond me.
She displays symptoms of mild Down Syndrome.
So she is welcome to visit the U.S., but not Tommy Robinson?
Well, Tommy is in Prison, and I don’t think Greta wants to try to get past all the Muslim criminals to see him.
He was denied a visa before the latest round of trumped up charges.
The US and UK have visa-free travel agreements for citizens.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/11/13/tommy-robinson-denied-visa-us-visit-meet-republican-members/
So what special case requires a visa for that travel?
I’m not sure what to make of the story. Maybe necessary after the Brits loaded up legal charges on him?
even at 16, I can see that RHEEEing harpy face forming.
She is one spooky, sociopath looking kid. She should have the lead role in a Stephen King movie.
She looks insufferable.
Yes, yes it is.
Shit
You should be doing some statistical jujitsu to show that even though she’s trying to avoid the inevitable screeing about greenies jet-setting around the globe, the cost of the racing yacht and the special materials used and the small number of passengers etc… Akshually will cause more ecological damage than flying commercial would have.
Are you saying higher cost things require the command of more resources? So that would indicate that higher cost energy producing plants weren’t as efficient as advertised.
Jujitsu works. Using it as a sneer word is pants-on-head retarded.
Gymnastics then.
You both gave me a good lol. Are you related to Thaddeus Russell, Hype?
I read that as Nipsy Russell at first.
Also are you saying the hypocrites jetting around the world shouldn’t be criticised?
No I am simply amused by the lengths that some people go through to discredit greenies. I’ll point and laugh with the rest of you I’m just not deep diving into the average air speed velocity of a laden swallow.
Even if she did not have issues and was manipulated and whatever, when did we get to the point that we listen to 16 year olds on important topics?
I don’t.
Well, she’s a thought leader in the global environmentalist community, which tells you everything you need to know about the general quality of the thinking in the rank and file.
Could we just send her back and do an exchange for A$AP Rocky?
Kid looks like a Bond villain.
Holy shit. You’re right.
I hope the ship she’s on has technical problems en-route – requiring a Coast Guard and a couple large vessels from a few different navies to change course to find and rescue them, in the process burning up more oil than required to have flown her in a private jet.
I hope it gets stuck in ice.
That would be particularly funny.
That whole movement has the stench of a modern children’s crusade.
“best travel route that didn’t go against her beliefs,”
Ha ha ha. Nature doesn’t give a shit about your beliefs.
Orange Man Bad
Virginia’s black state lawmakers announced Monday that they will boycott a ceremony this week commemorating the beginnings of American democracy because President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend.
The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus said its members would not attend Tuesday’s event in historic Jamestown marking the 400th anniversary of the first representative assembly in the Western Hemisphere. The boycott comes after Trump’s weekend comments referring to U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings’ majority-black Baltimore-area district as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”
The caucus’s statement did not specifically mention Cummings but said Trump’s “repeated attacks on Black legislators and comments about Black communities makes him ill-suited to honor and commemorate such a monumental period in history.”
Caucus chair Del. Lamont Bagby said in an interview that the group unanimously reached the boycott decision more than a week ago. But he said the president has “continued his attacks” since then and that his remarks about Cummings’ district were more of the same.
One would think that this event would transcend partisan divide. I suppose one would be wrong. All politics, all the time.
Are you kidding? They’re nobodies who are using the chance to protest to get some media attention.
“Virginia’s black state lawmakers announced Monday that they will boycott a ceremony this week commemorating the beginnings of American democracy because President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend.”
Makes sense. There was that picture found of him in blackface.
Virginia ever get around to investigating the two very credible rape allegations against Justin Fairfax?
Of course not, you big silly goose!
So if Trump attends the race card contingent won’t? Win win

Listened to the Lions of liberty podcast about voluntary taxation. Very interesting.
People really, really, really, really – REALLY – need to realize once and for all if you’re taxed for a service then said service is NOT FREE.
This dude in one sentence says ‘I’m taxed but don’t get free stuff’. It’s illogical.
Come to think of it, if there’s one common thought that points to the short comings of education this is it. How can you not see they’re mutually exclusive?

I saw this a while back and it peaked my interest because I can relate. This sort of personal search for answers to rare medical conditions starting to become a trend. I have an ex-brother in law that has a son that they finally got diagnosed with an incredibly rare genetic condition because he decided to start a charity on his own to provide research money to a selected group of medical researchers that promised to look into it. Now his charity has gone international and they have several researchers doing work on not just helping those that have afflicted family members, but on figuring out how to help people. The condition, identified as a Tango2 gene, is one horrible beast. Kids with it rarely make it to the age of 30 because of the debilitating effects.
MEDICARE FOR ALL!
Then everybody but the masters will have the same horrible and evil level of care!
Crazy. Thanks for the link.
Donny Deutsch: ‘I’m not saying Trump is going to slaughter 6 million Jews’
but…
LOL
That kind of rhetoric is dangerous to our institutions / NPC without most recent updates.
You think he’s a maniacal monster and yet you want to destabilize him. Bold move.
With these people it is all progjection of what they know their team does when given the power.
“Impeachment is not about removal. Does anybody want President Mike Pence? No. But you want to destabilize him.”
At least that much was true.
“stunning parallels to what Hitler was doing in the early phase”
Only to an ignoramus or a person who remarkably remedial at reading history.
I’m still waiting for Trump to burn some building downs and rig himself some elections. I must have missed the part where he released his own brown and black shirted thugs (though I suspect he would have to choose another color. Might I suggest orange?). Oh wait, there are already people in black wearing masks. They’re called….Antifa.

Who is Donny Deutch? Am I supposed to know?
I would really like a detailed examination of these “stunning parallels”. I daresay I know just a bit more about the history of twentieth century Germany than Donny Deutch does, and I would be very interested to find out what the parallels to the Enabling Act, the Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor, the Reich Citizenship Act, or the Treachery Act.

The story about the grenades cracks me up. Never tried that, but the TSA dolts missed the Leatherman in my backpack twice. Almost a pound of steel. Unreal.
Not gonna get a pedi, thanks. Not only is it weird for dudes to do, I wouldn’t inflict my sandal/flip flop shod feet on some poor pedicurista. They get pretty gnarly by the end of the summer.
Love the Old Guy music today. Such a nice, simple song thats still got some depth. Excellent.

My husband and I love each other but have forgotten how to flirt
My bet is she gained about 60 lbs and has not disclosed that.
STEVE SMITH NO KNOW WHAT “FLIRT” IS? BUT HIM DO GRAB AND SEX FOLLOWS!
Drop your husband off at a strip club with a couple hundred bucks, he’ll pick it back up in no time.
“…I have been open with my husband that I would like to have more sex. He says simply that he would, too,”
He sure would like to, just not with you.
For some reason that reminds me of an old Rodney Dangerfield bit:
“I asked my wife, ‘Is there somebody else?’ She said, ‘There must be.'”
“How do I get him interested again – and how on earth do I flirt?”
As if it was really all that difficult. Just look him in the eye and repeat these words – “You look like you could use a blow job” – and then follow through. Even if he is banging three of your hot neighbors on the side you will be getting some that night.
Libertarian thinkers (current or former) such as those working at the Niskanen Center could help shape a post-Trump Republican-policy tool chest. And racial or “populist” temptations aside, the structure of the U.S. Constitution ensures that the right-of-center party in our two-party system will harbor a residual resistance to Trumpian authoritarianism.
*loosely closes hand, makes lazy up-and-down motion*
Sure, wanker, whatever you say.
I think the “libertarian” Niskanen Center has done more damage to Libertarianism than the LP. Or at least it’s a close race.
recently that is.
The Niskaninnies themselves have rejected the word libertarian, so why keep letting them sully it?
Because the sullying is the point?

US Soccer Finally Responds to the Womenz
In the case of our men’s and women’s national teams, they have different pay structures, not because of gender, but because each team chose to negotiate a different compensation package with U.S. Soccer. Separately, FIFA competitions for men and women include a different number of games each year, at different times, in different locations, against different opponents with different FIFA rankings and different tournaments with different qualifying criteria and different prize money. Yet even with these many differences, U.S. Soccer strives to ensure that all our national team players, women and men, are paid fairly and equitably…
As you’ll see—separate and apart from any prize money awarded by FIFA—U.S. Soccer has, over the past decade, paid our Women’s National Team more than our Men’s National Team in salaries and game bonuses, and we continue to make unprecedented investments in our women’s program.
And finally, the numbers:
Over the past decade, U.S. Soccer has paid our Women’s National Team more than our Men’s National Team. From 2010 through 2018, U.S. Soccer paid our women $34.1 million in salaries and game bonuses and we paid our men $26.4 million—not counting the significant additional value of various benefits that our women’s players receive but which our men do not.
Ooooh, they are NOT going to like that news.
*grabs popcorn*
So the women immediately asked them to pay the men more to make it equitable?
So, to equalize pay, they’re going top cut the women’s salary and benefits?
They don’t necessarily need to do that, I mean based on results the women are the best in the world at their current pay level. What would paying them more vault them to?
Wastes of cash?
Just wait until 2023 when Russia fields their Trans Team.
It would be something like this

I wish they’d just drop the subject – my world has been blessedly Rapinoe-free for a while, and now she’ll rise again like the Great Pumpkin.
She got a full NYT Interview right before this dropped: lMegan Rapinoe is in celebration mode. And she’s got some things to say.
Rather than being a regular white girl in the 1 percent, I have a totally different perspective on things, and it’s the basis for all the activism that I do. I don’t feel like I’ve experienced a lot of homophobia or people hanging out of windows calling me a fag or anything, but being gay has shaped my life’s view.
She has some self awareness at least.
Is she ever aware of anything BUT herself?
I have no reason to know who this woman is. I don’t watch soccer at all – not men’s, not women’s. I want to go back to knowing absolutely nothing about her,
What about transgender soccer?
So… Lacrosse?
You obviously haven’t met many lacrosse players.
It’s supposed to be a joke on it being soccer with sticks.
Gee, Megan, could you maybe tell us what a “regular white girl in the 1 percent” is like? Is that like your average black guy from the ghetto? Or like your typical Jewish New Yorker? Or is that more like the kind of bigotry that’s acceptable?
A “regular white girl in the 1 percent” can safely be ignored, even disliked or hated. She just wants you to know she’s definitely not one of those.
Yeah, ugh, aren’t middle class white people THE WORST!?
Look, she has her own grievance card to play.
Did the dipshit reporter ask when she plans to try out for the big leagues so she can make a decent buck?
Ha, this Deadspin Article:
U.S. Soccer Releases Dubious Numbers To Refute Claims Of Pay Inequality
Cordeiro uses some funky accounting to disingenuously make the case that actually the women are paid more. His first item of business is to move the target: instead of discussing actual pay, he moves to guaranteed pay; instead of pay per national team appearance, he moves to national team pay plus club salary. Since the USWNT negotiated for guaranteed base salaries in their CBA, and since the USSF contributes financially to the NWSL, Cordeiro argues that a women’s soccer player earns more in USSF cash than a men’s soccer player is guaranteed to make.
Including all of the money USSF pays to the women is disingenuous.
To them it’s all a scam.
As usual, people are missing the key component whenever they argue ‘they should be paid along x lines’. The women NEGOTIATED the contract they got.
This is sooooooo tiresome.
Especially when you consider since the men did not make the fucking world cup, the women will out earn them when the most recent numbers are out.
Boom!
OT: For any of those who like beer, I’ll be down at the BrewDog AGM at the end of August. They do have GA tickets, as well as shareholder tickets available. It’s a stockholders meeting, music fest, and beer fest. The downside is it’s in Canal Winchester, with nothing else much around.
I might look into getting a room there. Last time I looked into getting a Friday or Saturday night, they would only allow both nights. If not, I may still try and go for a bit. Can’t really drink too much unless I stay, because it’s on the other side of town. Wife and I have that Friday off so she may have other plans but I think she would like that.
The rooms there are booked that weekend. The nearby hotel is probably booked as well. The girlfriend and I have a room about 15 minutes away (in Groveport), and will be using Lyft/Uber to get back and forth on Saturday. But I’d be up for meeting up Friday night.
That’s cool. We planned a long weekend together before she starts new job. Not sure what the plan is yet. Might be able to do something if we stay in town.
Good deal, we’ll be getting in August 23rd in the evening. Feel free to hit me up at my handle at Google’s mail.

Older article- https://komonews.com/news/local/san-francisco-and-seattle-a-tale-of-two-cities-mired-in-a-homeless-crisis
this stuck out to me:
Jesus fucking christ. That doesn’t include private charity. What a fucking racket.
The number of homeless is too small, a consistently low number, there are far more homeless than anyone will admit
You would think the incentive would be to overestimate the problem though from the city, as that’s how they would argue for more money.
According to those numbers, the government alone is paying $30,000 per homeless person. Lack of money isn’t the issue, what it gets spent on is.
This may not be a very libertarian position, but I think all of the homeless need to have a deep psychological evaluation and then get treated for what ails them, whether they want it or not. I’m not up for allowing them to bring back bubonic plague so that they can choose to live on the streets.
The homeless are reservoirs of hepatitis and cholera, not the plague.
It’s the rats that will bring the plague.
This may not be a very libertarian position, but I think all of the homeless need to have a deep psychological evaluation and then get treated for what ails them, whether they want it or not. I’m not up for allowing them to bring back bubonic plague so that they can choose to live on the streets.
Libertarian solution: End the zoning and code restrictions that destroyed flophouses. The homeless used to be able to pay a nominal fee to get a bed and access to a toilet.
Honestly, I get the impression that there are plenty of options for people who want to follow some very low level rules and the people who choose to be on the street are not willing to follow them. Flophouses are not the answer, because lack of housing for the homeless is not the issue.
I am not arguing against removing code restrictions, because that helps everyone. I’m arguing that they aren’t really relevant to the mental health issues that are the real cause of the homeless “crisis”.
The numbers are also way low, since they exclude the shit ton of federal, state, and county money pouring into these programs. But even if they were accurate –
San Fran has a worse problem than Seattle, with even more feces in the streets. Why emulate San Fran?
America has concentration camps on its border? That’s absurd and ahistorical
An entire generation forgot history
/except my son, at 27 self taught, he could teach History, and sometimes does
Hold a tic. I’ve been reading some history books on my own and I’m 27…You are concerning me, Mistah Yusef.
Is your dad an HVAC technician?
Ones on the list of possibilities
Check the thermostat paternity test?
Do you have a preference for Korean cars?
The “concentration camp” claim always struck me as absurd on its face. The underlying commonality of what defines a concentration camp is that it’s concentrating people based on their ethnicity. But, the detention centers at the Southern border ostensibly don’t do this. If a Japanese person, an English person or a Canadian tried to get into the U.S. through the Southern border illegally, presumably they’d be sent to the same detention centers.
Are they putting the Africans they catch coming across the birder in different camps than the South Americans?
Okay, I’ll cop to getting my feet done. The thing is, I have really wide feet, and no matter which dress shoes I get, I wind up with corns that hurt like hell if I wear them regularly. I don’t even wear sandals.
you’ve only got two feet: nothing more important
These guys are American, and their 12A fits me to a t. Maybe their last in your size will work.
M L Leddy will make you anything you want. Flipping through their client books is kinda gross, but if you want to know what W’s or Lyle Lovett’s sole outlines look like, they’re in there.
I will second and third Allen Edmonds. They’re a little pricey depending on what you’re used to buying, but they have a great range of sizes, their quality is generally very good, and they do a lifetime recrafting service for a lot of their shoes. I have a pair of black Oxfords from them I expect to own for the rest of my life.
I wore out the welt on a pair of their wingtips after five or six rebuilds: they wasn’t enough left to sew the next soles to. They mailed corpse back (free) with their apologies and a $50 credit towards a new pair.
Warning to others: not everything they make is rebuildable; I’d go so far as to predict that everything under $300 is disposable.
Good call on the warning. I’ve got a couple pairs of their “value” level shoes that aren’t part of that deal. They could be resoled, but they wouldn’t be eligible for the full monty.
HOWEVER, and this is a big one, the policy applies to shoes even if they’re on sale or if they’re factory seconds. Or if you buy them at a thrift store.
Man, that Baltimore tweet brought back some memories. A good friend of mine bought a house on Hollins St., about the middle of the block between South Carey and South Calhoun. Back then, his house was like right on the border between gentrifying neighborhood and urban blight. And I mean like his one wall was the border, because the house immediately adjoining his never had a door during the time he owned his house. I rented the top floor of his place while he was going through a divorce, and it was a real eye-opener. This was around 2009, 2010 or so, and that area was already pretty much lost. People who’d lived there for decades were suddenly getting robbed in front of their homes in broad daylight. Rats and trash everywhere. Beautiful row houses rotting away on their foundations. Really, really depressing.
Re: Baltimore – Where did the $16 Billion in US Grants Given to Baltimore in 2018 Disappear to?
“Billion with a ‘B'”
If that’s accurate, that’s astounding.
Not surprising at all. A ton of money goes through Baltimore. Lots of graft accompanies it.
What’s missing from the current news cycle about the mayor of Baltimore is that he’s mayor by default. Pugh resigned in scandal, so he’s been mayor for about a month. Before her, Sheila Dixon got caught taking gift cards donated to a city-run charity for the poor and spending them on things like fur coats and jewelry. Go back a little further and you’ll find that O’Malley allegedly helped out some developers who wanted to build in the Inner Harbor in exchange for a little consideration, something he repeated as governor.
In other words, no Democrat will ever go looking for that money. Baltimore is as corrupt as any major city in America, but it concentrates it into a small footprint.
Don’t forget the Riot Queen, SRB.
That’s 24k per person in Cummings district.
“‘President gave $16B in 2018 ALONE to Elijah Cummings’s district in federal grants’: Donald Trump’s aide Lynne Patton asks what Baltimore has done with its financial help as POTUS’ row with ‘rat-infested’ city escalates”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7299907/Donald-Trumps-aide-Lynne-Patton-asks-Baltimore-financial-help.html
$16 Billion?
Heh
I sent you the draft BTW. Filled with typos. *Shrugs*
That’s pretty thicc.
The district, which includes just over half of Baltimore City, most of the majority African American areas of Baltimore County, and most of Howard County, is more well off than the administration claims.
That’s weird.

Fuck off nobody nutjob.
“please consider being better about trans issues”. That is some weak ass attempt at framing.
I like how a random idiot takes a patronizing and condescending tone with one of the premier female athletes of all time.
one of the premier female athletes of all time.
Yeah, but that one is about to change.
We will all remember back in the days when men played men and women played women.
They can have a universal poker or chess tournament.
The only athletes with complicated genders who get my sympathy and earnest consideration are intersex people, born with legitimately ambiguous equipment. Even they in some cases must be excluded if they have a gender-based advantage over their competition
I agree. But, that isn’t the prevailing zeitgeist. I’d think feminists should be the most angry about it. But, they’ve sold their souls to identity politics and intersectionality.
Chess? At the top level, all players are men.
ruodberht, so be it. Unless the contest started with a sprint and pushups, then gender shouldn’t be used as a separator. Do fewer women succeed? Yes. Is this a problem? Follow up: is it done systematically to exclude women? No? Rules are rules?
Then it is what it is. How well represented are urban youths in competitive chess? Should we have special ghetto tournaments for them?
Ghetto league chess might be worth watching.
I can’t demonstrate weaknesses in your position, so I am going to try delegitimize you and encourage people not to think about what you said instead.
Worse still, when did we get to the point that achievement, the basis of Navratilova’s “power and celebrity”, is viewed as a mark of damnation?
When there is no objective truth, the only thing you can judge an argument by is the identity of the arguers. Relative power indicates privilege and a lower privilege score gets a handicap.
Tell it to Renee Richards, who has said after her pro career ended that she should not have been allowed to compete on the women’s tour because it was an obvious advantage.
about time. Finally someone is ending the scourge of womans sports. I’m kind of stoked for my two male college basketball leagues.
Way to move the goalposts ACLU. Nobody’s arguing against transgender people participating in sports. They’re arguing that a 250 pound dude shouldn’t get to crush a woman’s orbital socket in the octagon because of how xe identifies.
In other words, leagues, collegiate and Olympic committees don’t have any rights to determine who qualifies for participation.
It will be cheaper to host the Olympics in the future, what with cutting the number of events in half.
As usual, people are missing the key component whenever they argue ‘they should be paid along x lines’. The women NEGOTIATED the contract they got.
They wuz duped. SWINDLED.
Well, women just don’t have a head for numbers, Brooks. You can’t just expect them to go up against a guy in a negotiation and get anywhere near favorable terms. Maybe, next time, their dads and boyfriends should have to do the negotiating for them.
Math is hard!
/Barbie
It is that insulting, yeah.
I might have overcompensated for my lack of negotiation skills, because I drove a hard bargain, and when I finally saw the salaries of my direct reports, including one who is unusually high paid for a scientist, mine compares quite favorably.
I have never been in a position to negotiate compensation (State rates are set by contract, my pre-state jobs were too low level to really think it possible).
But the moment someone starts to haggle, even in a retail scenario, I get this visceral response that they’re out to scam the other party. If I’m involved, I walk away pretty much immediately. It’s probably a good thing my pay rate is set by umbrella contract.
Haggling or bargaining is not a scam. The buyer and seller have put different evaluations on the product. By your walking away you have agreed that your evaluation is different than mine.
I recently put some real estate on the market, at what all potential buyers agreed was an over evaluation. I still have the property and that’s the way prices are established. The market told me I was too damned high. If I want to sell I’ll have to accept a lower price.
I work in risk management. The quant team, within the group, is about 40% women. I know it’s BS.
Negotiating is sexist.
Equal pay for equal play!!!
What is the payscale for JV?
Zero to negative. At best those boys are getting paid nothing. At worst they’re paying to play.
“The game will, however, serve as a great anecdote for the kids on the FC Dallas squad to tell their grandchildren about one day. It also speaks highly of the level of academy development MLS teams are doing these days.”
No it doesn’t speak to the level of development. It speaks to the physical differences between men and women. That Dallas youth squad would probably be destroyed by any Bundesliga or Champions League youth squad.
Which is why nobody outside the U.S. cares about women’s soccer and can’t be bothered to attend games or watch on TV – which in turn, is why they are paid so much less.
Yeah, the picture of the boy standing next to the woman should be enough to demonstrate.
“That Dallas youth squad would probably be destroyed by any Bundesliga or Champions League youth squad.”
Or perhaps a good pickup team from some Brazilian neighborhood.
I’ve often wanted to see a game between a decent high school boys team – not a powerhouse like Oak Hill or DeMatha, just an solidly good local HS team – and a WNBA all-star team.
Lies!
No one has ever wanted to watch the WNBA play.
BURN!!
American Ninja Warrior had a WNBA player attempt the course.
They introduced her as “one of the greatest basketball players of all time”.
I asked my wife if that woman would have a chance one-on-one with Jordan.
She rolled her eyes, laughed, and asked me why am I a woman hater.
Back when I was 36 and newly single, I was shooting around with my brother in a park in Charlotte, NC. A cute, 5’11” blonde in her 20’s and a lady more my age came out to shoot with us. It turned out that the blonde was a WNBA player who had just taken a job as a college coach. The other lady was one of her coaches for the Sting.
We shot around a while and then played 2 on 2, boys against the girls. They gave us some decent competition – they both could shoot lights out from distance – but we still beat them pretty handily both games we played. I think they got 11 on us one game, if I remember correctly.
Neither of us was good enough to make our high school team. Not even close, really.
Now, it isn’t like this was two of the WNBA’s all time greats. This was a former player who became a coach and a current bench player (at least, I assumed she was a bench player… I don’t follow the WNBA).
But I can guarantee that you take any two random dudes off of the bench on a division III men’s team and they would have skunked us. Probably the same result for most high school teams.
I love women’s sports. But don’t get it twisted…. the WNBA all-stars would get run off the court in a lot of neighborhood pickup games where I grew up. (then again, basketball is pretty big in North Carolina. It wasn’t at all uncommon to find a random game where several guys on the court could dunk.)
They intentionally lost because it would be rude to show up a bunch of kids.
/future narrative
“It was a friendly game and they weren’t trying. Don’t worry, they are still super awesome.” is the current narrative:
Why Do Canadians Say ‘Eh’?
Why? Because they’re Canukistani.
Because CND is hard to pronounce?
It’s odd, ’cause I’ve very rarely heard it out West (I moved from southern Ontario to Alberta when I was fifteen, and “eh” in sentences basically dried up). The statement in the linked article that it’s heard more often in the rural West strikes me as basically wrong, the result of some Laurentian researcher doing her best “gorillas in the mist” analysis from the comfort of her office, thousands of kilometres away from the area she claims to be studying.
Bad Orange Man is devious
When the Democrats running for president all agreed at their first debate — via a raised hand — that public health insurance should cover undocumented immigrants, the Trump campaign saw an opening.
The campaign war room immediately clipped the video and shared it on social media. President Donald Trump tweeted about it. It was a tactic, people assumed, to rile up Trump’s steadfast but limited base ahead of 2020.
Inside the Trump campaign, though, officials thought they were actually growing that base.
According to four people involved with or close to the Trump campaign, the president’s reelection team believes trumpeting these moments will help win over a certain type of voter that could help carry him to a second term. It’s the voter who might be wary of Trump, but is more alarmed by a Democratic Party they feel is drifting dangerously to the left.
The campaign thinks blasting out these buzzy responses — one outside adviser specifically pointed to Julián Castro’s endorsement of abortion rights for the transgender community — will actually help Trump add key demographics to his die-hard supporters. In particular, they’re targeting working-class voters and union members who declined to support Trump in the Rust Belt states he won in 2016 — Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
If the theory is right, the adviser said, Trump can “sit back, relax and watch his base grow.”
Using their own words against them? That’s crazy. Free college, free unlimited health care for the “undocumented” and free abortions for anybody who shows up at the clinic- who could object to those basic human rights? Everybody knows we have to save the nation from Public Enemy Number One and his racist authoritarianism.
Trump has driven them absolutely insane. Because he was sometimes a boor, they have been trained like Pavlov’s dogs to treat everything he says as if it is racist, misogynistic and so out of step with polite society that no sane human could fail to see just how horrible it is.
Meanwhile, the cool-aid they’ve been drinking has them blind to the notion that there is probably almost zero constituency for providing free health care to illegal aliens. Well, except for among the 10 million or so illegal aliens. But they can’t vote, right?
They’re not legally allowed to vote, but that doesn’t stop them.
I’m not sure, but I think that saying that is racist.
Are you a progressive? Because if you aren’t a progressive, then saying that is definitely racist.
I identify as a Prog when I can use it against other progs. Or “progs.”
You used ‘I’ as your personal pronoun. That’s a dead giveaway that you aren’t woke enough.
Suburban women recoil as Trump dives into racial politics
I like the way the memo has gotten around. “Racist tweet” is the official designation for a tweet that doesn’t even obliquely mention race.
The AP might as well be Salon now.
Yep, I’ve seen CNN refer to it the same way.
Almost every “news” outlet is.
Including Reason. Welch, the Jacket and ENB had a round table. It wasn’t even open for discussion. Definitely racist. Unarguably, even.
They should call Kmele. He’s got an argument for them.
To be fair, Reason is opinion and “news analysis” with a side helping of actual reporting. On the other side, it’s not the AP’s job to characterize the news for me.
Trump fired off a racist tweet at Democratic congresswomen.
No, he did not. The writer is a liar and/or a fool.
The president’s recent return to racial politics
Nice lower case there. And to say that Trump is engaging in racial politics, much less “returning” to it, when the Left and the Dems are all race all the time, is mendacious.
In a direct reply to attacks against him on the very topic.
These women will still vote for Trump. They flummox pollsters because they don’t want to be lumped in with racists but they still don’t agree with leftist policies
They are virtue signalling before going into the voting booth to pull the lever for Trump. Same as last election, the polls are all going to say that the Dem has a big lead and then Trump will win a landslide.
“Even some who gave Trump credit for the economy or backed his crackdown on immigration acknowledged they were troubled or uncomfortable lining up behind the president.”
Hello there, person in the middle of the country. I’m from a major news outlet, and I’ve flown here from a much nicer place to get a sense of how you people feel about the racist president’s recent racist tweets. Do you support him in his racist endeavors?
“Bless your heart, And enjoy our rat-free town before returning to your cramped little sardine can place on the coast.”
Or what heyeksplosives said.
Pretty amazing that Congresswoman Omar cheerleading actual violence against another legislator is fine and dandy… even worthy of a “you go, girl!” from the press, while mentioning rats in your district is literally worse than Hitler’s final solution.
There are no rats in Baltimore.
Whoa! Careful there…
Don’t you know “rats” is code language for black people?
Better to call a spade a spade.
I thought it was code for (((them)))
If you have an advanced degree in dog whistles, it definitely means (((them))). And Hispanics. And probably women. It is all situational, you know. Even the word “is” can be a dog whistle, once you have finished graduate studies in grievance politics.
I’m feeling triggered already.
Triggering intensifies
Don’t you know “rats” is code language for black people?
Apparently “crime” and “infested” are as well. At least that is what I gather from leftists claiming that “crime-infested” is inherently racist.
Only racists know the code words. Duh!
That’s hilarious. I’d say that one’s on the larger side of average. The biggest rat I ever saw in Baltimore was probably a solid foot and a half from the nose to the base of the tail. As you’d imagine, it didn’t run anywhere, it sauntered past me on its way to the next alley.
The President of the United States is a racist and a misogynist: do you
a) agree
or
b) strongly agree
Thank you for participating in this important nonpartisan survey.
*Vote for the Democrats PAC had nothing to do with this survey.
Lolz
Trump just has an aura that makes leftists continually step on rakes. It’s just a God-given gift.

WTF Chicago?
Viva Maduro! The Chicago Teachers Union’s Solidarity Trip To Venezuela
These people need help.
learn what they could from Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution
There is a lot to be learned, but somehow I doubt they will learn anything.
Here’s the question I have to ask. When you’re talking about what has become of Venezuela, when the outcomes of the “Bolivarian Revolution” are on full display for anyone to see, can you still pretend the people buying it are stupid and not evil?
No, you cannot.
They need help being escorted out of the building. That’s all the help they need,
And nothing else happened.
The teachers unions basically own blue states and cities lock, stock, and barrel.
Why do the teachers put up with them, anyway? Is there a significant number of teachers who are this stupid and/or amoral?
You have to remember, the people who end up as teachers most likely have degrees in ‘Education’, which rank down there with ‘Studies’ degrees in academic rigor and content. They are likely ignorant and indoctrinated.
Careful with that broad brush there, UCS. My GF is a teacher (non union).
Those descriptions do not fit her at all.
I survived the New York state public school system. It greatly colored my impression of ‘educators’. I also know a number of people who are or were teachers, and they have done nothing to dispell that first impression.
I do concede that there is room for people or institutions that do not fit the mold, but I have little faith that they represent anything but a small slice of the whole.
I think the kind of people you wish were teachers, like the WWII and Korean War vets we used to hear about being transformative in the lives of students in a good way, would never put up with “Education” degree training now.
So you have a self-filtered pool of people who are willing to put up with this shit as teachers.
Another thing schools need is the ability to separate out troublemakers and advanced students from the median class (and each other), as keeping all lumped in one room drags the whole down to the level of the troublemakers.
It was the same 40 years ago when I did my student teaching. The Admin was no help. I counted getting through the week with no kids getting hurt as a success. I sure didn’t teach them anything.
$$
The unions negotiate higher salaries than the teachers would otherwise be able to get on their own. AFAICT it’s as simple as that.
Amoral it is, then.
A combination of true believers + benefits seekers. The most attractive benefit (so I’ve heard) unions provide is actually in protecting teachers from members of your profession (lawyers).
They aren’t being protected from lawyers, so much as accountability. Lawyers are the last resort when someone is seeking accountability.
Lawyers are the last resort when someone is seeking accountability.
Or the first resort when someone is seeking vengeance. The profession is basically a swiss-army knife – it is constantly used and abused for purposes both noble and ignoble.
Is there a way to fire them all like the air traffic controllers?
Their goals are “to learn what they could from Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution, exchange views on effective education and to show solidarity with the students, teachers and social movements of Venezuela,” says the story.

To each their own, people!
I’d think feminists should be the most angry about it. But, they’ve sold their souls to identity politics and intersectionality.
This is correct. #Resist is ruining good thinking. If a person’s politics aren’t based on a coherent principles, then all that is left is attacking, acting out against a collective perceived as an enemy. Apart from the obvious, the next problem with that is that the enemy of that person’s enemy becomes his ally: welcome to the #resist tent.
The problem with the #resist tent, of course, is that many of those “allies” don’t care about your well-being or prospects, and sports is a great example. To the extent that Title IX is seen as the triumph in the #resist-the-dominance-of-men’s-sports, a certain sort of feminism has won the day. To the extent that feminism has aligned with the trans movement because #resist, the politics were okay; but when feminism refuses to draw the line on what is a real woman, they are tearing down the house just as they got it built.
There’s always a bit of nihilism in revolution: throwing out the baby with the bath water to a fault because nothing matters in the brave new world. My favorite story along this line is some hippy communes putting the outhouses too close to the cistern: Watergate and VietNam don’t relieve you of your obligation to respect biological facts.
Oh come on, what’s a little dysentery among comrades?
Practice for after the revolution?
There’s always a bit of nihilism in revolution: throwing out the baby with the bath water to a fault because nothing matters in the brave new world.
Which is why the American Revolution has been perhaps the most successful of all revolutions, because it did not do this. It was a paradoxically “conservative revolution”, in that its leaders married new ideas of human rights with old ideas on human nature.
That makes sense.
I like the frontier theory as well: not much baby in place to throw out. When you get out to where you see a circuit preacher only once a month, what works is blatantly obvious: your house, your farm, your stock. Most revolution is full of fancy ideas and neighbors, and in Boston that counted for a lot; uphill in the Carolinas, it was hardly noticed.
It’s sweet when you can dial in for yourself how much structure or elbow-room you prefer. I would have thought that would have given Russia a chance, but I guess the tools and traditions of their totalitarianism survived every change in philosophy and reality ?
The American revolution was not a revolution. It was a war of Independence. Each colony already had legislatures and the basic government already established. They just wanted to sever ties with the crown.
It was both. The revolution was in developing a republican form of government (which they did not have prior, although they did have the forms for an easy transition, but then again so did the UK and France right before their respective revolutions, both of which turned out quite differently) and a new national identity. Declaring “all men are created equal” is not at all necessary if you are merely wanting independence and not a revolution.
Thanks to whoever posted Nick Gillespie and Dave Smith on YouTube yesterday. Here it is, if anyone’s interested.
I listened to 45 minutes on the drive to work this morning.
Listening to Nick makes the downfall of TOS not surprising at all.
Him admitting to not being interested in foundational principles, harping on Ron Paul being a racist, and claiming the NAP was not a part of original libertarian theory are my favorites so far.
Sounds truly awful. The Nick Gillespie of podcasts.
It’s good because Dave Smith is really good at explaining and making Gillespie sound foolish.
Yeah, listening to him on the reason podcast yesterday was rough. They were pretty close to being full-on “woke”. For a couple of segments, ENB was the closest to a libertarian purist in the room.
Let that one sink in for a second…

Sen. Ron Wyden Tears Into Trump Intelligence Chief Pick as ‘Least Qualified Individual Ever Nominated’
Trump’s deep state war continues.
bahahaha….he’s right – we totally need some objective individuals, like former Communist voter John Brennan!
So the knew guy didn’t get a bunch of people killed due to incompetence like Brennan?
Remember when Wyden gave lip service to opposing spying on Americans by the IC? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Really impressive how powerful those partisan glasses are. Actual spying on an American presidential candidate, including not only wire-taps but foreign agents and even a honeypot entrapment scheme – not a problem. Mentioning that it might be a problem? Apparently that is an existential threat to democracy.
More/further unraveling?
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced a new interim executive director and other top staff changes on Monday after reported criticism that the staff did not reflect the diversity of the Democratic Party.
The shakeup was announced after a meeting at its headquarters on Capitol Hill, Politico reported. The news site ran stories highlighting the committee’s diversity concerns, which reportedly sparked the tense meeting on Monday. Two sources for Fox News confirmed the Politico report.
“Today has been a sobering day filled with tough conversations that too often we avoid, but I can say confidently that we are taking the first steps toward putting the DCCC back on path to protect and expand our majority, with a staff that truly reflects the diversity of our Democratic caucus and our party,” Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., the chairwoman, said in a statement.
