Bullhead City, Arizona
It’s hot, for some reason, it’s hotter than the Sonoran Desert. I will keep this part short, while heat is good, human oven baking isn’t, thank God for AC Technicians, or Phoenix et. al. wouldn’t exist.
Boss decides to break off of my next project for a bunch of California jobs, and added more AZ jobs, so I’m booked through the year, better than the beginning.
San Dimas! (almost)
It turns out there is a lot of tourism this time of year, so I couldn’t book a room within 35 miles of Ontario, home base in CA, so I attempted to stay in a motel I won’t rag on on but rhymes with dead hoof gin; drug dealers, homeless bums in the parking lot, and meth dealers right above me building a lab. We checked out at 11 pm, and headed to Chuck’s.
Safe! Bella and I finally got to visit the Wife, it’s been 3 weeks. I realized I haven’t been without people, family or otherwise for 30+ years. Glad to be back, and Momma got to visit her Doggie.
Of course my scope of work changed before I ever started, additional work here, and a lost project in San Francisco, this one directly Union related (Fuck unions, YMMV)…….
Interlude, go get a beer……..
San Francisco, (Hayward, East bay)
We were here in June? Since then we learned a lot about where to stay, and now we know… loud, trashy and the entire area is cold, traffic is a joke, but the people are nice, plus one for that. Monday night, I roll over the San Mateo bridge, a toll but no biggie, except Cash Only! What barbarity is this? One time tolls? Debit, credit? I had to scrape sticky coins from my console, but I made it.
Finally finding Chipotle 2080, I check in with security, and when I go to the site, the manager says “nope, I don’t know you.” I have a key but no alarm code, this cost me and my company an entire day. Idiots!
While that job went south, my next job did the same thing, so I’m stuck till next week. Did I mention bridges freak me out? At night it’s just a hill, in the morning I want to throw up, just panic for 6 miles.
The Bay Area
I didn’t get to San Francisco proper, just the south peninsula, but one thing noticed was how clean it was, no poop, trash, shopping carts, no homeless people, so it’s not all bad up here.
Gas is $4.29 a gallon, milk is $3.18, those are my marks when traveling– also McD’s coffee, low is $1.08 CO, high is CA $2.40, amazing. This place sucks, and I will be glad to go back to AZ, maybe get my shit together, I’m saving lots of money for a place, til next time!
114*?!? I’m annoyed because it’s 98.
I have a hillbilly answer for smoking outdoors
It is supposed to be 105 most of next week here. It isn’t a dry heat. The heat index here is never lower than the actual temp in the summer here.
I am ready for fall.
Cooler temps help with The, but bless you for sticking out the Summer
When we were looking for place to retire to, it was between Aiken, SC(where the wife’s parents lived), and Eagle, ID. We visited Aiken in June, that was all I needed to make my decision.
I was born into it.
It was actually very nice here this morning at 11am when I took my city walk. I think it was 75, but there was a strong breeze and low humidity. First time in a while I’ve been able to walk 3 miles on the concrete jungle without breaking a sweat.
67º here and I’m lovin’ it.
I never thought the day would come, but I’m having AC installed this week. Costco, so I can return it if I rent a crane.
How is the anti-air conditioning movement on the left going? Have you started hearing much about it?
Most people I run into need AC to conduct business, no SJW games around here,
Thank God I’m in AZ
I suspect that is true most places. The commies are going to have a more and more difficult sell as they lunge headlong into crazy land.
They’re cutting ads for Trump’s reelection campaign, seven hours at a time.
You are clearly contributing to the climate catastrophe.
#metoo
I don’t want to live in a world ? without ac.
Neither do Servers, Hospitals or grocery stores, don’t ever forget that
I certainly am. I had a brand new 5 ton air and heat system installed yesterday. I have frost on my nose right now.
They wont say it but I think one of the big pluses for getting rid of air conditioning for the left is the huge loss in life expectancy that would result from it. Also, refrigeration for food? Is that on their list too? They could easily knock the life expectancy back down to late 40’s if they got rid of that.
By the way Yusef, you have a tough job and easy to see how you could tire of it but don’t forget, you are doing God’s work. You make people’s lives better in ways most people never come close to.
Pretty insensitive comments after climate change just caused a hurricane that turned Miami into The Lost City of Atlantis.
Atlantis isn’t lost, it’s just stuck in a traffic jam.
“How is the anti-air conditioning movement on the left going?”
No more fossil fuels, dude. IOW, they’re fucking retarded. The same people complaining that the poor homeless are literally being cooked alive on the sidewalks, want to ban AC so that they can bake alive inside instead if they get fortunate enough to get in a shelter. I mean, have you even been inside somewhere where’s there no breeze and they are cooking food, with no AC? Because it will be a hell of a lot hotter than it is outside. There’s a market in Balmer I sometimes walk to for lunch because they have the best burritos. But they have no AC and if it’s hot outside it is always way hotter inside there.
Before AC, people built outdoor kitchens for the summer.
And slept there too. See Rear Window for an example of that.
Add nuclear to the no energy list too.
Here in Montreal – I kid you not – the city banned the use of fireplaces. Guess why.
In a city and province where temps fall WELL below 0 from December until March. Last year, we had a mini-ice storm that left tens of thousands of homes without power for a few days. People simply kept warmed how? You guessed it with a fricken fire place or else, you know, we can freeze to death.
Montreal was mostly spared. But they may not be lucky this year. I’m reading the Farmer’s Almanac and they’re saying it will be another deep freeze winter.
The mayor of the city is a big greenie.
If people die because of this supremely thoughtless and idiotic ban I think it’s pretty easy to track who are the culprits.
But of course they won’t be held to account.
Just to clarify. This happened north of Montreal where the cities haven’t banned fireplaces. There’s talk of it perhaps happening even though where I am we’re at the FOOT OF THE LAURENTIANS – what we call ‘up north’. I’m hearing, like how the government asked Quebecers to register their guns, people are ignoring the law. Geeeee, you think?
We’re run by mental cases in North America. I call this the Califoretard effect.
Is natural gas available? You could run a NG fireplace at least.
Everything is available.
But not everyone can and wood is old reliable people love.
Personally, I have maybe go propane but I plan to move. Decisions, decisions.
Coal.
Fuckers are trying to do that here by ever tightening air standards. Fuck it, it’s way better than it was forty years ago, we have a couple of stagnant winter days, and that’s it. And ignore the summers when forest fires make all of that look like pikers and goes on for weeks.
As for the Bay Area, I lived there for 45 years and I have no interest in ever going back.
I will take the heat over the assholes in San Fran any day
The weather is the main thing I miss from the 1 year I lived in SF.
3 months was enough for me. Upon my return, I kissed the ground in TX and have only been back to the bay area for a couple business trips.
OT:
Huh. The spousal unit and I have been married for 27 years as of today. We’ve known each other for 31.
Time flies when you’re having fun. 8^>
Awesome! Keep it up!
Workin’ on it.
More on-topic: are you making plans to put down roots somewheres? Your tales of the road fascinate the unrepentant 20-year-old inside of me, but the early-60s me is going “D00d, you need a home — even if you’re not there most of the time!” Anyways, I wish you all the best — road life is unique, but it ain’t for most people . . .
“Huh. The spousal unit and I have been married for 27 years as of today.”
Aww, that’s great dude. Wife and I have been together 11 years and will be married 9 in December this year. Yep, it does fly when you’re having fun.
Congratulations Beam’s. Stick it out. You could do a lot worse. 22 years here and couldn’t imagine it any other way. I would be lost without her.
I would be lost without her.
#metoo
#MeThree, and I’m only in 11 years! I’m a softy, I gotta tuffen up.
Yup. 21 years here. Also lost without, etc.
You could do a lot worse.
But I kinda like living like a slob.
Congratulations!
Congrats, Beam, you must be somewhat normal, at least within a couple SDs, in spite of your handle. 27 is a big number…
Congratulations!
Congrats
Congrats. 43 years and counting for my wife and I.
Wow. That’s awesome!
The secret is setting low expectations.
Lol. I know that’s true:)
Grats. I’m married for 9 but we’ve been together for 26.
Accidental kid?
Nope. She wanted the official status. The kid we (very intentionally) adopted.
Interesting. My partner and I have been together for almost 15 years. Never married.
My wife’s Filipina, so we got married twice, once here in the states, once in the church the first time we went to the Philippines, since it wasn’t practical for her parents and the siblings to come to the states for the first wedding. Neither ceremony means much to me, or I suspect to my wife. The commitment matters, not the ceremony, or the legal paper, other than the practical implications. I suspect it’s the same way for most folks.
Happy Anniversary! Our 30th is on the 23rd.
Congrats!
Congratulations! Known my wife for 22 years, first slept over at her house 20, and married 7 or 8 years. I can’t remember which year now, but I intentionally picked the first of June so I’d remember that. ?
Congratulations!
We’ll be 17 years on September 13. FRIDAY the 13th (did that on purpose).
Aunt and Uncle were married on September 11th 1951. Their 50th was, to say, spoiled.
Oh, man. That’s awful.
I got a ticket on Sept 10, 2001. I asked the cop “don’t you have anything better to do?”. I felt a little vindicated.
Best wishes for your special day!
13.5y/14.5y, respectively.
May you both have another (at least) 31!
28 and a half.
good deal
I got to 23 once
but I’ve got to tell you: there’s something deliciously refreshing about the fact that there is no chance whatsoever that NewWife is going to bust my balls over something stupid I said in 1986.
Congrats!
Did I mention bridges freak me out? At night it’s just a hill, in the morning I want to throw up, just panic for 6 miles.
Well, that’s peculiar.
The Baltimore 395 overpass freaks out my wife every time we drive over there. She’s used to Brazilian engineering, so no wonder.
I don’t know why a bridge would freak anyone out.
Another comment about your write-up — I’m always fascinated by how many places humans couldn’t live if we didn’t have abundant and relatively cheap energy. Most of Canada couldn’t be inhabited for between five to six months a year ’cause of winter. The reciprocal holds down south — like you said, Phoenix and its environs wouldn’t exist, or would be a paltry shadow of its actual self.
We keep trying to make energy more expensive; Humans Be DumbAsses.
AC is critical to modern society, period, I can’t say more,
Without cheap and abundant fossil fuels, Berntard will get his population control, very quickly. Short and brutal. We only need to kill off 6-7 billion people and we can achieve utopia. I mean I’m not wishing that if that happens, certain people advocating for it get tied to fireant hills while having their eyes pecked out by scavengers, just saying…
Like how I’m fascinated how Canadians carved a country out of the harsh conditions, I was floored by how America has a civilization in the desert when I did a small Vegas/Arizona/LA junket! It’s so impressive.
There’s lots of fascinating about the western desert. I’ve ridden my bike trough most of it, and it never ceases to amaze.
* through
It lives and breathes at 45 degrees.
*neerows guise*
But….dry heat my ass.
I prefer -20c. Dry cold.
Is that like 0 degrees by normal measurement standards?
Colder.
Like how a chick turns you down in bar.
That’s cold.
I remember sitting in a duck blind a few years ago. One of the other guys asked what the temperature was. I looked at my phone and replied, “1”. He nodded and we continued to hunt for another four hours. Proper clothing is your friend.
That’s the thing. I can dress for the cold and be outside for hours. A nice brisk walk under a midnight sun in sub-zero temps is therapeutic.
midnight moon.
MOON.
Oof.
It’s amazing to think that all of it used to be at the bottom of the ocean.
I’m a big fan of the geology of the Salton Sink.
It would be the lowest place on earth, by far, if the Colorado river hadn’t filled it with a mile of sediment. It would also be underwater.
I thought you had bought a place in AZ Yusef – did something fall through afterwards? I’m sure you mentioned it at the beginning, just curious.
As far as the Patriot posts last night – somehow I’m not familiar with that show…but it does sound somewhat similar to the eponymous “Sledge Hammer” – also canceled too early, but they did give themselves the best possible 1st season cliffhanger just to be safe.
Re: Patriot: I started binging it when I got home this morning (streaming as I write this). I have to say that you should absolute trust Crusty on his recommend. Yes–trust CJ. It is a truly masterful mix of uncomfortable humor, melancholy, absurdity…do give it a shot
Patriot is great.
There is a Epix series with Ben Kingsley called Perpetual Grace LTD that is written and directed by the same guys with a lot of the same players…
Samee feel and humor but a lot different story.
Jimmi Motherfuckin’ “McPoyle” Simpson…. I now know who the Patriot guy reminds me of so much. Hell, they could play brothers,
Shame on me for not making that connection w/o that memory jog.
Yeah, that struck me right away – they look like brothers.
It’s like the Colin Ferguson / Mike Rowe thing
Oh, sure–rub it in.
/heh.
Oooooh, Yufus, I have a request (don’t go out of your way to do this, but if you happen upon it in your travels…). I’ve been trying to find some form of Bacanora (part of the Holy Trinity of Tequila, Mezcal and Bacanora) for several years now. Have you run into any in the booze stores down there in the border states? The biggest brand I know of is called Cielo Roja, but they’re certainly not the only ones, and there’s gotta be some really small makers out there…
Mission wine, 54.00 for 750ml.
Gas is $4.29 a gallon
Ouch.
It’s good to hear your boss is keeping you busy. Having work is good.
And I feel robbed for paying like 2.89 or w/e it was I couldn’t be bothered to note. It was under two bucks not long ago! I also cannot be bothered to remember how long ago that was.
I wonder how much of that was overeager investment into fracking operations that just couldn’t turn a profit.
$4.29 USD / US gallon?
Good Lord. Here it’s only $2.43 USD / US gallon (after doing the conversions, natch, and that’s the Costco price 5 klicks from my house). Your price is damn near European levels.
It’s Commiefornia. Even here in comme MD, it’s about 2.50 a gallon.
Cross into AZ the prices drops at least a buck per gallon.
$2.71 near my in Brooklyn. Not that I have a car.
I think I paid about 3.40 USD/gal at Costco about a week ago. California always gets fucked in the summer because state law requires some special blend in the summer for pollution whatevers, so gas is always more expensive (in addition to the ridiculous levels of state taxation).
They had a measure to repeal one of the latest gax taxes last year and … it failed. Because people in this state are idiots.
A few years back Calcasieu parish jacked their sales tax up to a ridiculous amount. The bump passed on a popular vote by a large majority yet no one seemed to be able to find anyone that actually voted for it.
California may have plenty of idiots but I have to wonder about the repeal failing.
The people who write our ballots are mendacious cunts. Formerly, Kamala wrote a few. For instance.
As blackjack said, the way that particular ballot prop was written was really confusing. Imagine that. I had to read it twice as my initial response is generally “no” to most ballot bullshit. This one was a “yes” to repeal the tax and it was pretty fricking convoluted language.
My state has a law for those that requires it to say in italics after the prop “Voting yes for this will increase gas taxes/ by x”.
We have “voter guides” that do something similar. Not that it helps any.
Just filled my 2001 Ford Expedition work vehicle from empty to full for under $45 @ $2.079 per gal this afternoon. God bless TX.
Speaking of HVAC, I replace my condensate trap float switch and the blower relay on the main board gave up immediately thereafter. I feel like my AC unit hates me and is just giving up on life.
Ours started that about 3 months ago. After the last part crapped out we tossed the whole thing and got the new one. I never want to fool with that again. I am hoping this system will outlive me.
We got a new system 2 years ago and it’s already crapping out.
Mine has been in 25 years, 2 minor glitches, once an insect got in some switch and once a mouse chewed some wires off. OTOH it only runs for a few weeks in the July/August summer.
I an HVAC guy once showed me a a video on his phone of a nest of mice living in an outdoor unit.
I was standing outdoors with family and we heard a great WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK coming from the side of the house. Went to look: there’s a snake that snaked into the unit from above and got clobbered by the fan.
Yuck!
Yikes!
condensate trap float switch…
Will this be on the final exam?
Did you check the thermostat?
I just got paid my per diem, and it’s gone….
114? Good God. You can keep that!
Thanks for the travelogue Yufus. All I know about San Dimas comes from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”. So I know the football team rules.
And an OT for Gustave Lytton – Erin Ga Chosen!
Which like so many Japanese language instruction videos in only Japanese I just don’t get. It takes the simplest bit of grammar, makes a few examples and thereafter explains the grammar point and what is happening in full blown everyday Japanese.
If you are able to understand the explanations you are already familiar with the grammar point. However, this seems to be the way Japanese approach learning English too. It makes no sense…
Thank you sir! I will have to watch that as soon as I track down some beers.
114 outdoor
95 in the cool spot I made
74 indoors
Keep up the weekly posts, Yusef, always good to know you are working/traveling/getting back to see the family.
I had a fire in the little stove downstairs this morning, 60s but dampish and clammy. Felt good, too.
60s but dampish and clammy.
Just how I like my women.
Crusty, is that you?
Oh, and I was bitching about $2.39.
Yusef! Dude! Glad to know things are looking up.
Cut the gas with some milk. Save money and it’s good for the chassis.
This is one kinky euphemism.
Well I may change jobs again, but we shall see, just got paid today,
Got me money full of change,
You can have yours, just give me mine…
Yeah, Mo, we Mizzourians don’t have it half bad.
Nope. Husband’s from L.A. Couldn’t get him to move back there for anything.
$2.39?
I just paid $2.579 this morning. I’d love $2.39
Ahhhhhhhh the world is right. Watching the Packers in the first game of the NFL season, drinking one of my favorite German biers (that I brought home from Berlin last week).
It was hot today, 85, but the Trade Winds are keeping the home cool. After the game ends I’ll go race a sailboat with friends and then BBQ.
You’ve definitely got the good life DBL.
I can’t complain about much. I will complain that Hawaii is so blue it is frequently in the UV range and the State Leg frequently tells the Cali Leg, “Here, hold my beer.”
Some, and I say SOME ideas make more sense for Hawaii. They can’t import power, and are prone to hurricanes. If I built there, I’d do solar panels and some battery storage.
Of course, CA makes that sort of thing mandatory when it doesn’t make sense.
This may be further proof of how I ain’t right, but Collinsworth was lookin’ pretty damn sharp in his “throwback uni” as he & Michaels were chatting it up right before the start of the game.
I like Collinsworth; I’d like him a lot more if he didn’t talk during football games.
Fuck You! Have a great time, be safe.,.
I have to replace my HVAC. Any recommendations on what I should buy?
Depends on the house, details?
Right now it has an older Carrier outdoor unit, and an ancient York indoor unit. It provides both heat and AC for around 1700 sq. ft. I’m thinking of the Carrier “Comfort” series.
Oh, and it has 30A emergency heat.
WTF is emergency heat?
It’s resistance elements (like a toaster or electric oven) provide work if it’s too cold outside for a heat pump to work, or the heat pump fails.
Yeah, I thought it was a backup chick, for when yours is on the rag?
Or maybe a little J frame in an ankle holster?
Or… A light sweater.
I went with Lennox. They work with Costco.
Install this weekend or Monday.
Anyway, Yusef, I’ll check back here, if you answer later.
Answer is get a gas electric unit, heat pumps are horrible when real weather comes, strip heat uß like a Tesla, coal burning electric heat
I can’t use gas. I’m just asking what brands/models you would suggest to replace the electric heat pump/AC, and what I should ask about.
/gently taps Yusef on the shoulder.
I got this.
Commando 8.
Any recommendations on what I should buy
A block of ice and a rotating fan.
Or so Howard, Fine, and Howard have recommended.
Now the wind,,60 mile an hour, 100 degree wind, I’m nuts sitting here,

KO!
I have seen cowards like that all of my life. They start fights, throw the first punch, whatever. they get their asses beaten and then cry like babies, sue, try to have charges filed, etc.
Assume that every word that comes from Antifa is a lie.
Since you just replaced your HVAC, any idea what I should get? I don’t need a 5-ton. A 3-ton should do it.
We got a Trane 5 ton. the HVAC guy said we needed a ton more than what we had before because new coolant is less efficient. I went with the best I could get my hands on because I want the system to outlive me.
I wouldn’t use a heat pump because my brother has one and they seem to suck. When I want heat in the house I want a lot of it very quickly. As Yusef points out there has to be a good heat differential for them to work properly.
What Mr. Poopybutthole said…
Fatality.
Problem is a couple of Proud Boys are likely to see jail time after defending themselves against Antifa.
What’s really troubling is the prosecution and police admit it was self-defence but can’t find the Antifa people because – I kid you not – they were COVERED.
So let’s go ahead and throw these two in jail.
NY is all kinds of crazy under Cuomo. No clue how this is justice.
“Leftist Council Member Says Cleaning Feces Off Seattle Streets With a Power Washer is Racist
The problem centers around King County courthouse in downtown Seattle, where homelessness is surging and a tent city has sprung up in a nearby park. Several courthouse employees and two jurors have been assaulted.
The area is also littered with fecal matter, leading King County Sheriff John Urquhart to ask the county to order a daily power wash of the sidewalks, which “reek of urine and excrement.”
However, leftist Council member Larry Gossett pushed back against the proposal, arguing that it was racist because power washing “brought back images of the use of hoses against civil-rights activists.”
That’s right. Because high pressure water hoses were once used over 50 years ago to oppress civil rights activists that means streets in 2019 should remain smothered in shit.”
https://summit.news/2019/09/05/leftist-council-member-says-cleaning-feces-off-seattle-streets-with-power-washer-is-racist/
https://twitter.com/PrisonPlanet/status/1169573301074714624
I would go to his house, drop trou and take a major dump right in front of his door.
Sometimes a hose is just a hose.
Larry Gossett is a funny guy!
Power washers actually don’t squirt water like fire hoses at all. In fact, that’s kind of the point. Conserve water, clean at very close range.
But they bring back images!
Now that I think about it, we should be power washing the homeless.
I’d link to Farva getting hosed and powdered in Super Troopers but YouTube is coming up short. They have Rambo but i want humor not pathos.
Fun fact: Farva is a lawyer in real life.
Oh, and Rabbit only has one leg.
God, they’ve all cut the actual funny part!
The penis?
I..uh…well, you know…..yeah.
The level of crap Seattle has, maybe fire hoses would be the better choice.
Fire Departments don’t do wash downs anymore on HazMat calls. Seattle can enact it’s own labor.
It appears they can’t.
I dare someone to try and convince me that leftists aren’t motivated by malice. The homeless city is there because of their policies and the shit and needle covered sidewalks were exactly what they wanted. No fair cleaning it up, that defeats the whole purpose.
Yusef–as always, a great travelogue! Good to see Bella, and I trust you are currently having a restful down-time.
Thanks!
Redheads for Yusef!

Noice.
There’s a number of them to choose in their. 18 is bunny boiler.
A significant number of them are not natural redheads.
Yep. The lack of freckles is a big tell.
Plus, freckles are awesome.
+1
No, they are not.

Dammit! They are younger than my Daughter, nice though
Yeah, that’s my problem. Daughters and, soon to be, granddaughters.
Surprise! It’s men’s fault.
https://www.studyfinds.org/why-are-marriage-rates-down-study-blames-lack-of-economically-attractive-men/
You’ve go to be freaking kidding me.
Wage gap!!!
They’re not entirely wrong…
being a single mom is a lot more attractive when you can steal the sexual capital (money) from men, who then appear less wealthy.
So, to sum up: “It’s about love. Except, not really.”
Not necessarily anything new. Well, other than the apparent numbers involved.
Marriage works when both parties are equally convinced that they can’t do better.
My female friend recently commented, “I sometimes think that isn’t my ideal mate – but, then again, I’m hardly his”.
She’s pretty great.
Doh – that should have been
“I sometimes think that <her husband> isn’t my ideal mate – but, then again, I’m hardly his”
Yeah. Of course, it depends on what is/are being qualified. But, I imagine that’s pretty stable across the majority of couples.

No you fucking idiot! The red symbolizes the communist revolution. How dare you say these things this woman survived a holocaust and this is what you have to say??? BURN IN HELL ANTI COMMUNIST DEMON
What holocaust did she survive?
There was something worse than commies in China?
Now we’re in Lovecraft demons territory.
“19. Non binary They/Them Marxist-Leninist. Bi Pro game anti gamer, Language nerd Arbeiter aller Länder: Vereinigt euch! Eng/中文/한국어/日本語/Ger”

I wonder how they did that….

Honestly can’t tell if a parody account or not.
I thought scientific/materialist atheism was a central pillar of Marxist thought.
Just using the believer’s language against them. The True Believer’s.
What the duck did I just watch?
Communist propaganda.
Finally watched the last episode of Hard Knocks.
What a disappointment – so many lunatics (e.g., Mark Davis, Vontaze Burfict, Richie Incognito, etc.), and we end up with just the most boring season imaginable.
ANTONIO BROWN.
Diva or something broke in the noggin?
Why not both? Those guys who have crazy physical gifts often seem to be a bit touched in the head.
Yeh but this guy has lost it full stop.
Who?
Broken noggin. Not his first shitlord rodeo.
Yeah, he doesn’t understand “THIRTY MILLION GUARANTEED”
He could have waited one more week for his rodeo. He didn’t.
That is the funniest part of the story. He is gonna get fucked. Another team is gonna end of picking him up after the Raiders dump his ass, but he will take a massive pay cut.
What are the chances it happens again? Pretty high, I think.
Now he’s going to miss some games too.
Yup, with the Steelers you could say maybe it was just too many years with the same head coach and Rothlesburger. He just needed a change of team and he would be a quirky WR that could be dealt with because he was so talented. That is now, very obviously, not the case. You want AB, then you get a cargo full of baggage for your team. I imagine the offers are going to be there, but way lower.
“Richie Incognito” – I remember when he played football, and I first heard his name. I thought something like “if you’re trying to be under cover, you’re doing it wrong.”
Police report: Richie Incognito wanted to cut off his dead father’s head at funeral home.
And yet, that crazy person was on screen for all of 2 minutes.
Even Mark Davis was only on screen for less than 5 minutes.
They shoulda gotten Davis at the barber. That would be some compelling television.
If you haven’t read the ESPN profile I linked to, you really should. He’s fascinating.
Yeah, I’ve read that piece. Fucking hilarious. I like Derek Carr a lot, but at this point I would really like to see the Raiders choke hard for a while. I wish them the worst in Vegas. I hate that fucking place. Give me Reno any day over that shit.
IIRC, there was a guy busted at the border with a similar name on his fake ID.
Border holding area –
Border guard “Uh, is there a Mr. Johnny Pseudonym here? Mr. Pseudonym?”
Ha! I haven’t seen Hard Knocks, but I listen to a fuckload of sports talk radio (I drive hours per day with an AM/FM radio and can’t take politics shows much anymore). They were laughing today about how lame Hard Knocks was this season because the Raiders made sure to cut anything interesting from the show. The whole AB thing is pretty hilarious.
Last year’s w/ the Browns was quite good – they didn’t gloss over the tension with Hue Jackson and Todd Haley. After watching that season, it was no surprise when Hue got canned; dude was talking to his staff about it was “my way or the highway – I know what I’m doing” – he had a 1 and 31 record at this point as a head coach.
Baker Mayfield also came off as a solid leader with a bright future.
The year before with the Bucs was also solid (that’s when I started watching).
I heard the first couple seasons were really good. I imagine most teams would now follow the Raiders lead (ha, you don’t hear that phrase a lot) and make sure to cut anything interesting.
This was pretty decent – basically, if Hard Knocks can’t / won’t cover something like the conflict AB had with the Raiders GM, they’re worthless.
10/10 would read again

HEY, MY NAME IS MEADOW, SHITLORD!
Please call me “Taro”. I need to fit in.
Ok.
I can DO it!
OT: went on a White House tour today. Got to see the presidential Diet Coke machine and the door to the Presidential Shitter. I had my eyes peeled for Hat and Hair, but I think they were in the east side snorting cocaine off of hookers.
Jelly.
Such a great phrase.
And a cool thing to see !
Is it…OK, if I take your word for it?
When Ayanna Pressley was elected my representative in the Democratic primary, I decided that I should ask her office for tickets to a White House tour. Bake the cake, bitch. But the communication was poor, I never got any email confirmation once I filled out an online form. I even forgot about this. Then months later I got an email with a reservation for a tour of the U.S. Capitol. Another example of government incompetence. I wasn’t interested, since I’ve toured it twice already. And my second visit in 2009 was much more limited than the first one in 2001.
Some thirty years ago, we got a tour of the rotunda thanks to our rep. I can’t remember who it was now, but still remember the the views from inside, for some reason. I’d do it again but it sounds like that no longer happens. Also took the subway carts in the basement.
Thankfully, we have a friend who greased the wheels. Still needed to ask more than a month in advance to get on the appointment list, but the tour we received was a bit more comprehensive than what you get if you do a public tour. That and having him guide us was a treat because he had fascinating stories to tell. I can’t tell most of the stories because they’re not mine to tell, but I can confirm that there are multiple Diet Coke buttons around the West Wing.
I don’t wanna go all NotAdahn on you guys, but the moon is looking awesome with Jupiter at about 8 o’clock relative to the moon.
Very bright.
Never go full NotAdahn…
Double negative. Sheesh.
Our Aries week of damnation and hellfire isn’t over yet. Be careful out there.
Thanks for the reminder!!!

My write-up on college football rankings should post tomorrow, but I’ll be gone to hear Jason Isbell with NewWife at the ancient Shell. The article is a puff piece, and I won’t be around to wrestle over it, so I expect all to got OT promptly. Enjoy your evening.
Next weekend is the Mavericks at the Rhyman, Los Lobos to open.
I hear they transitioned to Los Lesbos. *Sorry*
hadn’t heard that

Everyone happy they bumped Steelers / Patriots for this?
The Packers won so SP is happy. Let’s bow our heads in gratitude.

Contemplating doing the subtitles for this ala the Hitler meme. Waste of time? Probably.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JXchOVLUeog
Do it!
(although 8 min might be a bit long)
If it’s a major PIN, not gonna bother. A couple hours and I’d do it.
*pain in the ass.
Anyone know of the easiest way to download a video from YT and add subtitles?
Hi.
It’s 57 been-to-the-moon degrees here.
Hey mike. I’ve been busy, did you get your promotion?
No.
But, I was blind-sided with an offer for a different position as a stepping-stone type thing. It’s too boring to explain fully, but basically my would-be boss wants me to be a supervisor, but thinks I’m not ready, but wants to do what he can to get me ready.
And it comes with a 10% raise.
That’s not exactly terrible.
No. It’s not.
I’m balancing disappointment with excitement for the future.
FWIW, about 2 years ago I applied for the position I now have and was turned down.
At the time, boss man said, “I want you to do this and learn that, and blah, blah, blah. Then you can have the next opening.”
It worked out for me.
Yeah. That’s where I’m at. The wasted last year+ of telling the previous boss that I wanted to go down that track is frustrating, but here we go. It’s my (future) job to lose now.
Sorry you didn’t get the position but sounds like you are valued and the company is making a genuine effort to keep you on.
Thank you.
And not just the company in general, but the specific would be boss wants to make it happen.
Well. Damn. BTDT.
At least they like you!
(And more money is always good!)
Nice. We bottomed out at 67 a few hours ago already. Hi 72 tomorrow. Glorious.
97 today, 97 tomorrow, 97 forever.

71 here tomorrow. Fall is the absolute best.
Yep. This time of year, Alberta gets electric blue skies, sunsets that are amazeballs and colours in the trees and bushes that drop your jaw. Even in the city, the night skies are dark with brilliant stars. Love this place.
And the new digs are quiet. Sleep is sooooo much better than where we lived in the Lower Mainland.
As a “Southern Canadian”, I concur.

Hiawatha sez Hi.
That is a future in the WWE right there.
WWE? Hell, she could get the Democratic party nom in 34 years or so.
BP, nice Nazi President last night. 1am too late for me to join the thread.
Thanks, straff (and to everyone).
I haven’t worked in video in a long time, but this might help.
Probably better than the one I’m using now. “Clip” something. Not sure how to add the subtitles.
Do you have any video software? Again, a long time since I used Premiere Pro, but even lower costs software should be able to do that, and if the software is popular at all, there should be a YouTube or Bitchute video on how to add them.
Not to repeat, but subtitles should be a super simple addition. This article lists a bunch of free video editing software, and they all should support that functionality, or they have no business even giving their software away for free. Check the ‘help’ or ‘search’ files, or look for a video about them. (I picked the first software from their list, and there were at least 5 or 6 videos about it).
I’d take her over “sitting bullshit” right now.
President Ellis, what do you think we should do about china?
DADADADADA…MOMOMOM.
Baaaaaby! Cute.
She’s tenacious. And cute as a bug.
That’s one cute kid.
oh my gosh, that is the cutest thing of the day! 😀
although now I’m trying to imagine me trying to carry a proportionate-sized pillow and you know, I don’t think I’d do much better!
10 months old, athena. That’s what I got and I’m fond of it.
So….she’ll get hair, right?
(Adorable!)
One would hope so. However, if she takes after her daddy, she will be bald by 30.
Also, garcias al tu SP. I have saved the email you sent me when wife and I lost one before this one came. Thanks for that.
You’re most welcome.
I love your little family.
If you hiked 4 hours into the dense mountain forest of Nagano, put a chair there and left for ten minutes, you’d come back and find an old lady sitting in it with her shopping bags on her lap.
Ah–the fabled ‘Pensioners of Nagano Forest’! Fascinating concept, but, no scientific proof of their existence.
Every surface you can sit on in Tokyo already has a “resting” geezer on it. They’re expanding their habitat.
See, this is what happens when you value the elderly–they take over everything.
Speaking of shopping, have you bought your new washer/dryer, car, and whatever else before the end of the month? I see Amazon.jp has warnings over a bunch of the preorder stuff that will ship (and technically sell) after Oct 1.
All that stuff comes in a 6in x 12in box in Japan. Ain’t you seen how small them people are.

Sorry, been busy this afternoon. The consumption tax going up sucks. I’d imagine it will really hurt the housing market.

Well. Here I am. No idea what got my MIL laughing hysterically for the last 2 hours, but I guess I should see if I need to do updates.
I could do with a 2-hour laughing jag, myself. Cheers to MIL!
I only get that lately if I’m drinking heavily.
Cheers to SP!
Agreed. Hope you’re well, SP. And get as much rest as you can.
Good morning from the U.S. Eastern time zone, fellow Glibbies! Happy Friday! I just checked in to see what I’d missed here after I fell asleep in front of the football game last night. I’m getting more than our usual (expected) weirdness – when I first opened up this here page, Monocle told me there were 234 unread comments. Now it says there are 468 said unread comments, and all of those seem to be posted twice. Also, at the end of the page are several comments (some of the duplicates, maybe?) with time stamps earlier than SP’s wee-small-hours check-in.
Could this be Monocle weirdness, Firefox weirdness, something going on with my laptop? Or have I had some bizarre type of stroke after hanging out here so much lately?
And after I posted that, Monocle said there were 235 unread comments instead of zero. And just at this moment that jumped to 470.
Damn, I wish I could just go back to bed.
I see 350ish comments (don’t use monocle.)
355 on Firefox with Monocle
No issues

OT throwback to a story from yesterday – Square Grouper in Florida. First, full disclosure, when my dad worked for the Aqueduct Authority in 1970s (delivering potable water and piping away the effluvia for the Florida Keys), there were a couple of times when a bale was found floating under the 7-Mile Bridge or down by Vaca Key. These bales were promptly divided up amongst those at the water plant who indulged in such things and that was the end of it. Nobody would think to inform the damned revenooers about such a find. Also, this really struck me as odd, FTA – “…beachgoers initially thought a package of roughly one kilogram of cocaine found on a city beach was dynamite, because it was labeled in Spanish.” WTF?!?
