The US Open is winding down as the path for Serena is laid clear for her to tie Margaret Court’s record. On the Mens side, Nadal cruised into the semifinals. But none of that matters as we are officially entering the NFL season tonight. Meanwhile on the diamonds of America, your winners were: New York (both AL and NL), Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Boston, San Francisco, Kansas City, Arizona, Oakland, and Los Angeles (NL). And with most of the divisional races being locked up, we anxiously watch the chase for best record in each league, best record overall and the wild card races.
If you were born this day, congratulations. You share it with Louis XIV (the Sun King), outlaw (and probably NRA Member according to Dems) Jesse James, baseball player Nap Lajoie, economist Paul Volcker, comedic genius Bob Newhart, baseball player Bill Mazeroski, actor and reverse mortgage pitchman William Devane, (the worst) James Bond actor George Lazenby, the lovely Raquel Welch, German director Werner Herzog, possibly the greatest showman in history Freddie Mercury, “Gung-Ho” and “Beetlejuice” star Michael Keaton, and moron Rose McGowan.
That’s a pretty fine list, actually. And don’t even try to fight me over a couple of the claims I made there. I’m right and you all know it. But I digress. And anyway, its time for…the links!
San Francisco goes completely insane and declares the National Rifle Association a domestic terrorist organization. And they want to prohibit any supporters or members from getting government contracts in the shit-strewn city. I guess not even the people tasked with picking up the millions of heroin needles or spraying the shit off the sidewalks will be safe if they’re a member. LOL, just kidding. There’s nobody doing either of those. But seriously, this is an ugly and libelous statement and I’m sure it will cascade into further polarization and left-wing violence against those who just want to maintain the Second Amendment.
Dorian tore the ass out of a couple islands in The Bahamas but pretty much missed Florida entirely. But that won’t stop the media and local/state governments from scaring the shit out of people as it churns toward…shit, nobody really knows where. Well, they all know it’ll probably go back out to sea after coming within a short distance of the Carolinas. But that doesn’t get page clicks, does it?
So the Remainers were saying Boris was undermining democracy by not holding an election. Then when he called for snap elections ahead of the Oct 31 Brexit deadline, they voted the proposal down. They also managed to prevent a no-deal Brexit. Which basically means the EU has the UK’s balls in a vise and can do whatever they want by refusing to negotiate at all (which is what they’ve done all along) and the will of our Limey cousins will have been thwarted by the very people they wanted to disassociate from. That’s pretty sad, yet unexpected from across the pond.
What could possibly go wrong? Seriously, this might be the least baked idea ever. I will eagerly await Trump denying the unsourced, uncorroborated piece and then a back and forth of retarded media pieces for a week or so until the next shiny object comes along.
Way to go Navy!!! You bunch of fat fucks. I mean, you’re fatter than the Air Force. The fucking Air Force is in better shape than you!!!!! Oh well, after the new PT tests are implemented next month, half the soldiers, airmen and semen out there will be on a program anyway.
Jesus, what an amateur. Everybody knows you put that in the checked luggage so its got more room to move around. A checked bag is way too small.
An idiot engages an intelligent person. Let’s roll the tape to see how this goes… Oh, it results in one person accusing the other of having a bunch of domestic abusers and violent criminals as friends. And then that person gets white-knighted by a bunch of betas. So basically, the same shit that always happens when this simpleton decides to make a point on twitter.
OK, here we go. Song 1. Song 2. And one that gets too little love…Song 3.
Go enjoy that and have a great day, friends!
Lawyer Glibs – is there anything actionable by the NRA against San Fran for this slander?
Libel. And there should be. “Domestic terrorist organization” has an actual legal meaning.
I hate them for making me side with the NRA. They’re a corrupt and sellout organization, sure, but they definitely aren’t terrorists.
They won’t terrorize you unless you try to investigate Wayne.
Defamation. But the worst that will happen is that the taxpayers of SF will have to pay the NRA’s legal bill, plus legal bills of their own, and maybe (but unlikely) damages. The city council members will not suffer individually for the harm they caused.
How about a gun that shoots used needles?
Or a shit cannon?
OK, how about an over-under? A needle rifle with a shit launcher underneath the barrel?
this is the kind of outside-the-box thinking America wants, nay needs.
An M-poo03?
*narrows gaze*
See also below.
Naw, the easiest way to handle it is a pneumatic cannon that vacuums up shit and needles from the street and fires a shotgun-like spread of fecally contaminated junkie needles.
It fires “grapeshit”?
*narrows gaze*
I would think free association (yeah, I know) would allow that to get tossed.
Yeah, I’m holding my breath waiting for the government to hold the government accountable.
I wonder how many police officers on their force are private NRA members. Or how many retired private security for city council members belong to the NRA
Do you even Kings Men, Brah?
“Sovereign Immunity”
I would think it’s a clear civil rights violation to disadvantage people for exercising a constitutional right. So sovereign immunity wouldn’t apply.
Um. Song 2.
I like the third song, but I would have included this, even though it’s not really Freddy.
Good morning (Glibs time), sploopyinca.
Sloop’s links remind me of a 70’s am radio station. Not too Jewy.
(((What)))?
Military obesity study was based on BMI, though.
Yeah, but it’s highly unlikely all those semen are just yoked up compared to the Marines.
LOL You are a font of typos this morning, Sloop. Speaking of which…
“That’s pretty sad, yet UNexpected from across the pond.”
Assume you meant “expected.”
Typos or puns?
That’s my only typo.
Lies, something lies, and statistics? Is it suspicious that this study’s methodology uses body mass index (BMI) when the uniformed active duty military takes actual fitness tests which generate data that potentially could be used by DoD for analysis?
Each service has different tests, so you can’t compare across.
AFAIK (and all of the below is US military, active duty, uniformed):
Pushups: The Army, Navy, and Marines all require a minimum of 42 reps in 2 minutes for men and 19 reps in 2 min for women. The Air Force requires a minimum 33 reps in 1 minute for men and 18 reps in 1 minute for women.
Pullups: The Marines require men do at least 4 each and women do at least 1 each.
Sit ups and/or crunches (2 min): Army 53m/53w Navy 50 (men & women) Marines 70 m/50w
Sit ups and/or crunches (1 min): Air Force 42m/38w
Run: Air Force and Navy 1 ½ miles, Army 2 miles, and Marines 3 miles. The Navy and Marines adjust the minimum time requirement based on elevation.
Feel free to discuss comparing these across services.
Army is completely revamping their test.
Six events.
True, but AFAIK they have not replaced the current minimum standards YET. It takes time to cut the red tape.
We had a different sort of tests back in the days, oriented towards real (military) life situations.
From my long ago memory
Run, dodge and jump,
Low crawl
Grenade throw
Mile run
and a couple more
Timed events, grenade toss for accuracy, points score accordingly
They all use some form of relatively accurate (for standard builds) test for actual body fat.
The Army and Navy both use the tape test, which is about right if your close to the standard.
That data was likely available for anyone who’s exceeding BMI. But you never tape the little skinny fucks.
Sorry. ‘you’re’
Using BMI alone, the average starting NFL quarterback is considered to be “morbidly obese”.
I have an idea…
How about, if you can do your job to standards, ya don’t fucking worry about it?
The USAF is 2000 pilots short, with no solution in sight, and this is the absolute BULLSHIT the DoD is focusing on.
I’ll take the fat-assed fighter pilot who kills every threat in my path and gets me in and out with my pink ass intact to a pretty boy, chiseled, Thunderbird asshole who only cares about whose dick he needs to suck to make the next rank.

Nope, nope, nope. And the sad thing is that those are all young guys. Even at my biggest I wasn’t as bad as the least fat of those kids.
Audience reviews for Sticks and Stones are in and it’s what you would expect.

He even tried to name it so they wouldn’t miss the point. Whoosh.
Virtue signalling pricks are never going to like comedy that makes fun of their shibboleths.
The Audience-Critic Civil War is going to be crazy.
In my experience, practically every time that something received a low score form the critics I would end up liking/enjoying it and it would be real good, while the shit they scored high would make me feel like I had just watched kiddy porn (feeling dirty and stupid for wasting my time).
“PT tests” for “semen?”
jonbarron.org/mens-health/fitness-exercise-increases-sperm-count
I wondered if it was autocorrect or on purpose
??♂️
Popeye wants a word with you buddy….
Maybe sloopyinca will choose to tell us. In either case, sloopyinca repeated the spelling on this page: “Yeah, but it’s highly unlikely all those semen are just yoked up compared to the Marines.”
I believe it’s called a “satiric misspelling”.
Bronisław Kasper Malinowski claimed that people are attracted to those leaps of faith that lessen the anxiety, stress, and so on of life changing events. Hopefully, belief without evidence one way or the other that it is a satiric misspelling helps you cope with the deaths of Terrance Dicks and Valerie Harper.
San Francisco goes completely insane
I declare the San Francisco government a terrorist organization.
I declare San Francisco a rogue state that aids and abets the enemies of the State.
Let it flow.
Needs moar WHEREASes to be super official.
RESOLUTION ^This^
Biden could have Ebola and he’d still be a better candidate than Hillary. If he gets through, he’ll still give Trump a run for his money.
That’s what happens when you grope the wrong African kid.
Now we finally discover where Mr. Lizard had been hiding out these last many months! Basking on the sun-drenched rock of Joe Biden’s Presidential campaign!
Mr. Lizard has been keeping a low profile because of the Epstein mess. There is a serious risk of exposure since basically the entire cast of that story are Lizards.
That story has basically disappeared. I guess killing him was the right decision.
But that won’t stop the media and local/state governments from scaring the shit out of people
I fully expect to see idiots buying milk and bread when I stop by the store in central Va tonight.

I really bollixed up the links this morning.
Song #3 – still on my work rotation. I think it’s track #1 from the first album. Early Queen is the best Queen.
Then when he called for snap elections ahead of the Oct 31 Brexit deadline, they voted the proposal down
Democracy is only ok if I get what I want.
We need a referendum on the referendum. It’s only fair.
And we will keep doing it until the fucking idiots provide the result I want, and then, we will never again visit the topic, right?
It’s a short-term victory. They’re going to be saying hello to Prime Minister Farage if they don’t stop dicking around.
fap fap fap fap fap
Seriously though, Farage has already agreed to stand down candidates in districts where acceptable Tory candidates are running so when they finally do get an election it’s going to be a bloodbath.
That’s actually pretty cut-throat and clever. He is a funny lookin’ feller but he’s nobody’s fool.
I’m in for the lulz. Wait, is it internet cool to say “lulz” anymore?
Don’t know, don’t care, I’m still going to use it.*
*probably means it’s become uncool now.
You’ll always be groovy to me.
Yep. Stopped being cool the second that you said it. We’ve all had those moments UCS but why does it keep happening to you?

“”HARPA would develop “breakthrough technologies with high specificity and sensitivity for early diagnosis of neuropsychiatric violence,” according to a copy of the proposal. “A multi-modality solution, along with real-time data analytics, is needed to achieve such an accurate diagnosis.””
So like Minority Report?
My BS meter just pinned.
What, just because we can’t even get a lie detector to work?
A what? Hell will freeze over before I get one of those things.
#MeToo
but, of course, refusal is a red flag
You don’t need to worry Suthen. I’m sure that once they decide that biometric monitoring is required to own a gun, they will then write all sorts of laws restricting who can buy that monitoring equipment.
Then they will sit back and say “See, we didn’t pass any gun control laws.”
What in the unholiest of hells is neuropsychiatric violence? Is that like the ‘water cure’?
“neuropsychiatric violence”
Not really a thing.
Not unless you can bill for it with IDC-10
I read that as HAARP.
Homely old people?

Uffda. Straff you’ve really gone native haven’t you?
Time to come back for a few weeks and reaquaint yourself with the letter L. (I’m assuming you meant to say several)
Seven, probably.
Huh? Japanese have no problem with the word seven. Why would Straff not be able to type seven correctly? Nope I’m sure he meant several.
Just wait. I bet Straff’s response will be something like “You are probaree right about needing to get back home”
You’re also waiting for me to go “That’s lacist”, aren’t you?
It’s not the language. It’s the fat thumbs and bad eyes.
If you really want to go native don’t you need to mess up your teeth?
The problem is that have so many ways to say seven…
Is that nana, shichi or nanatsu?
Or alternatively are we talking 7 people, large animals, small animals, flat objects, round objects, etc. etc.
I truly hate the incredibly ridiculous system that is numbers and counting in Japanese.

“You are a member of Congress. Why are you ‘lending’ guns to people unsupervised who can’t pass a basic background check?” she wrote on Twitter. “The people you’re giving a gun to have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record, & you may not know it. Why on earth would you do that?”
Holy moly mother of whores and virgins. That little buffoon from the Bronx is beyond the realm of presumptuous stupidity. We have to make up a whole new category of stupid with her pic.
Popeye McCain versus Karla Marx. We all lose in that Twatter slap fight
It’s a race to the bottom and she won.
Why isn’t she minding her own business anyway?
Why is she attacking another member of Congress?
Imagine her with REAL power.
My takeaway is she thinks gun owners are absolutely terrible, criminal people. Likely abused their spouse or are violent criminals? Get the fuck outta here.
In other words, she has zero respect for people’s rights, wishes and decisions they chooses and make if they run contrary to her retarded, unsubstantiated, presumptuous, and sophomoric views and beliefs.
Like a child basically.
A child is in Congress.

She literally has no idea what a background check even is and that is costs a decent amount to run one.
Maybe she means a literal background check where doctors and police come to your house and check you out.
It’s a totalitarian’s wet dream.
Nope. A “background check” is where SHE gets to decide who gets an icky.

Yeah, high powered automobiles that nobody seems able to drive.
700+ hp in a 1970’s chassis with upgraded brakes and suspension i would hope. It’s still not a new Ferrari, Corvette, or Hellcat. I doubt all of the same electronic stability and traction control was transferred from the Hellcat. New cars and motorcycles have so much more power than in the past, you have to have skill to drive them without the nanny bots in charge.
Mulholland Drive, dude. Didn’t they film King of the Mountain there back around 1979? Those curves look fucked up.
You’re assuming things that may not be. Recently had a customer that bought a “resto-mod” ’69 Camaro. Chevy fuel injected big block crate motor, AC, modern seats, great body work, new stereo – 4 wheel drum brakes, partially modified front suspension, stock rear suspension. Previous owner ran out of money before he could make it right. Happens all the time.
He wasn’t even driving. His buddy wrecked it.
Allegedly. This morning I heard on the radio it was an open question who was driving.
Ah, the plot thickens.
Oh well, either way I hope he recovers and takes driving lessons.
Live Rescue was playing in the background the other night as I worked. There was a segment where EMT were trying to get a homeless guy to go to the hospital because he had a bacteria that was pretty much eating his leg up. He refused (naturally) and demanded police first arrest Trump for having done that (getting the bacteria) to him.
Even homeless people hate him. I guess he was to work on that demographic.

“The Washington Post reported…”
So, complete horseshit. I had a glimmer of worry until I clicked the link.
I didn’t watch but heard this morning that the 7 hour snooze fest pushing the global warming scam was filled with declarations that the run-of-the-mill Hurricane Dorian was proof positive that global warming is real, repeatedly referring to it as a climate emergency (name keeps changing becoming increasingly unfalsifiable and increasingly hysterical) because this has never happened before. Anyone watch any of that?

“That’s pretty sad, yet unexpected from across the pond.”
They didn’t disarm the population for no reason. Now they are just giving the people the finger and letting the know in no uncertain terms that voting there is just for show. The people have no say in things. Oh well, they gave up their guns voluntarily. Fuck the morons.

Wow – the new Army PT test will include a max-weight deadlift. I would have killed that thing when I was young. (Still do sets at 275 once a week but no longer push it beyond that)
When I was in we had an old salty Master Gunny Sgt who made us do the old PT tests from when he was a boot. They were way more practical than the pullups/situps/3mi run that we did.
The two I remember required you to wear a rucksack with weights in it (40lb?) and then do a broad jump and climb a rope.
They were actually pretty fun.
*The gunny always mocked us wearing those silky red running shorts. If he was in charge of PT for the day, we ran in boots and cammies.
Yep. I did plenty of boot runs too. Not as bad as I first feared but a fast way to wear out your boots if you run on pavement.
Always boots, tennies hadn’t been invented yet. Extra boots for PT, change after
Yup. I had a pair of PT boots. The soles had almost completely worn through. Also wore those boots on any shit details I caught.
Daily wear was the safety boots that they issued to all of us pogues in the Wing. Kept two pairs of mint boots for inspections.
It’s a 3 repetition max.
Babara, you ignorant slut.
Pop icon Barbra Streisand has declared that the Electoral College, a system widely seen as the bedrock of the U.S constitution and its democratic principles, represents an “assault on our democratic principles.”
Speaking to The Washington Post for an article on what the U.S. Constitution represents to herself as well as other progressive figures such as Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Streisand described the system as “antiquated” and advocated replacing it with a system that allows the winner of the popular vote to win the election.
“The 14th Amendment of our Constitution actualized what many of the Founders wanted, promoting equal protection under the law for all Americans,” Streisand said. “If I could, I would end the antiquated electoral college. Twice in the last 20 years the popular vote winner was denied the presidency. This is an assault on our democratic principles, where the dictum should hold true: one person, one vote.”
That was never a founding constitutional principle. Rachel Maddow’s kid sister Chris Hayes was on about this bs recently as well. The electoral college exists, in part, because States and their boundaries matter. It is the United STATES of America, not the United People of America. The president is the president of the common government among States that are, theoretically, voluntarily aligned with one another, delegating certain authority to the common government, mostly dealing in defense and foreign policy. I don’t understand why that is so hard to understand*. (he also said some retarded shit sbout the Senate, not understanding it is supposed to be the House of the States, whereas the HoR is the House of the people…)
*I believe some one these people are ignorant, but others are mendacious. Hayes even acknowledged that a simple popular vote would be beneficial to Democrats/leftists. He didn’t say why, but we know it is because then they only need inspire the emotions of the masses in a few big cities.
Where can I get a copy of those “democratic principles”? While you’re at it, please forward any examples of successful large direct democracies.
They are on display in the UK. Brexit is anti-democratic because the wrong people voted for it.
Clinton got 48.2% of the popular vote. Since that is less than 50%, the election would have gone to the HoR, who would have picked Trump.
What, you think because we get rid of the EC, we would get rid of the majority requirement?
The NPV compact, which is the most likely way to render the EC ineffective, does not require majority, only plurality. They’re not smart enough to understand the electoral college, they’re certainly not smart enough to understand the difference between “the most votes” and “more than half”.
NPV compact
It’s illegal.
That opinion rather carefully omits the most important part of Article II, Section 1 (emphasis mine):
All it takes is for a court to accept (or ignore the issue completely) that this alleged “carefully wrought” balance struck by the other provisions of the Constitution is about the process of electoral voting and not the manner of selection of electors, which is the exclusive province of the state legislatures. Of course, NPV is also something the courts are likely to favor (the “one man, one vote” standard being itself an invention of the courts), so they’ll likely uphold the power of the states in this matter.
I wish every state would adopt the ME/NE plan. Of course, the big states wont, so it would require an amendment to force it to happen. I would support that amendment.
If it also set a maximum number of people per Congressional district, I’d go for it.
They want it because then they only need to cheat in a few big cities.
ONE big city.
“Rachel Maddow’s kid sister Chris Hayes” was worth the intrusive security check and the terrible meal. Five thumbs up, Rebel!
They keep saying that the winner of the popular vote was denied victory when not a single candidate in American history has run a campaign to win the popular vote.
There’s plenty of conservative people in deep blue states that have probably not bothered voting because their vote isn’t gonna come close to mattering. Especially in California since Team Blue have rigged the primary system from keeping down-ticket Republicans from even appearing on the ballot.
Look, they got more yardage but lost on points. Therefore, we should change the rules to make yardage the true measure of victory.
And nothing will change. No one will adapt to try to score victory on the new criterion.
That’s how counterfactuals work.
Exactly. Why not give the Dodgers half a World Series trophy from 2017 because they scored as many runs at the (World Champion) Houston Astros?*
*I mean, half a trophy would at least be something they could brag about for the last 31 years a failure.
“Especially in California since Team Blue have rigged the primary system from keeping down-ticket Republicans from even appearing on the ballot.”
Potentially interesting. Link?

The right solution has been and continues to be to expand the number of representatives in the House. The U.S. has an extremely unrepresentative national legislature because the number of representatives has been fixed since 1910 while the population has increased more than threefold since then. Besides providing better representation in the legislature, this would also reduce the imbalance in electoral voting power between large states and small states.
But it would also likely unseat a lot of incumbents, and would reduce the House member’s “prestige” considerably.
You want more politicians?
*faints*
Yes, and each one would be less important. The Senate would still be insufferable, but it was designed that way. The House was meant to be rowdy and full of common people. Now, it is just a mini-Senate.
Get your legislature to ratify this then:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Apportionment_Amendment
This is exactly correct.
Illinois reduced the number of state representatives and it essentially consolidated power into the hands of Mike Madigan, which proceeded to turn the state into a shithole.
The amount of horse-trading going on in the House is insane and the exact opposite of the founders intentions. Imagine the logistics of a US House of 5,400 representatives. House committees being 10x the size would cut out most of the bullshit. Bills would have to be short and to the point in order to prevent delays. The Speaker Of The House would actually have to work.
Only 5400?
Lets go with one rep for ever 30,000 – or 33,000 reps.
Also, any bill must be read aloud in its entirety to be voted on, including any referenced law or regulation so that the full extent can be understood.
All fine with me. Hold all votes by teleconference, then the reps don’t even need to travel to DC. Capital should be moved to flyover country anyway, like northern Missouri.
I 100% endorse this. Along with increasing the size of the supreme court.
I can’t wait for Trump to win the popular vote and lose the electoral college, seeing all the roles completely reversed. It’s the only possible outcome in this simulation.
Dorian is hitting Charleston hard enough that I delayed my trip for tomorrow.
Actually good for you. You can see what a bunch of rain will do in the area you’re looking to purchase a house.
If it was a little less bad, I would be going tomorrow to see exactly that. But too much power out and etc, and we want to meet with some schools, so we are waiting until Wednesday.
Wait a few days and give this a shot.
NOAA storm imagery for Dorian.
You could order an Eagleview or Geomni for $35 of your property, but they won’t be updated for the storm. And the imagery here won’t show the water if they don’t get the planes out fast enough.
My realtor is going to run by the property as soon as she can leave her house. They rode out the storm instead of evacuating.
You can see where they have some work completed in SE Florida. Look for the darker overlay area on the map.
Nashville Catholic school removes Harry Potter books over ‘evil spirits’
“The Harry Potter series of books have been removed from the St. Edward school library for several reasons. These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception,” Reehil wrote in an email, which was obtained by The Tennessean.
Reehil said that the curses and spells used in the fantasy fiction books “are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text.”
He noted that he consulted with several exorcists before making the decision.
Muggles is just a code word for mud people.
Actually, it’s Mexican (Spanish) slang for weed. It’s in Steinbeck’s Tortilla Flat.
They should just say they removed them because it’s the only thing kids will read and it turns them into retarded congresspeople.

The Trump administration is considering a proposal that would use Google, Amazon and Apple to collect data on users who exhibit characteristics of mental illness that could lead to violent behavior, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
The proposal is part of an initiative to create a Health Advanced Research Projects Agency (HARPA), which would be located inside the Health and Human Services Department, the report notes, citing sources inside the administration. The new agency would have a separate budget and the president would be responsible for appointing its director.
——–
HARPA would develop “breakthrough technologies with high specificity and sensitivity for early diagnosis of neuropsychiatric violence,” according to a copy of the proposal. “A multi-modality solution, along with real-time data analytics, is needed to achieve such an accurate diagnosis.”

Do you know who else?
“Human population growth has more than doubled in the last 50 years,” an attendee told Sanders, adding that the planet cannot sustain such growth.
“I realize this is a poisonous topic for politicians but it’s crucial to face. Empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth seems a reasonable campaign to enact,” the attendee continued.
“Would you be courageous enough to discuss this issue and make it a key feature of a plan to address climate catastrophe?” she asked.
“The answer is yes,” Sanders said, arguing that population control – in the form of abortion and birth control, specifically – is something he “very, very strongly” supports.
“The answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions,” Sanders said.
“And the Mexico City agreement, which denies American aid to those organizations around the world that are – that allow women to have abortions or even get involved in birth control is totally absurd,” he continued.
“So I think especially in poor countries around the world, where women do not necessarily want to have large numbers of babies and where they can have the opportunity to birth control to control the number of kids they have is something I very, very strongly support,” he added.
Sure, it’ll start with abortion and birth control. But the mass graves always come with your philosophy.
Pretty sure population growth has slowed over that 50 years. I remember as a kid being told that we were going to hit the magic Malthusian number 10 Billion by now.
Yep I was right, the rate is declining rapidly
Doesn’t matter. Leftists are always fantasizing about filling mass graves with something.
Those aren’t mass graves! They are just holes where they are going to bury wind turbine blades! Or not.
In most of the world yes. Africa is on a collision course with Malthusian limits. Given the monstrous scale of the problem, the Europeans are probably going to shut their borders to avoid simply becoming African countries. Then plague, famine, and war will correct the problem and bring that continent’s population down to the natural levels.
Not so much in Africa or much of Asia. The left believes there are too many Africans and Asians.
And Trump is the racist, eh?
Umm. Doesn’t population control mean forced abortions too? How is the old fart going to square that with my body, my choice?
You can choose to have an abortion or it will be provided for you. Choice! Just like the rest of his agenda.
Birth rates are lower in more developed countries. So a great way to decrease births is for more countries to become prosperous, and the most efficient way to do that is through capitalism. But I don’t expect him to reason things through like that.
So what you’re saying is socialist policies cause the very things Democrats want to prevent, and they will blame it on Republicans.
Blackouts and babies!
Nobody needs more than 0 kinds of children.
Nobody needs more than two genders.
Nobody needs anyone over 70 years old taking up scarce medical resources, Mr. Sanders.
So now it is population growth and not carbon dioxide that changes the climate? Or i it just assume more people = more CO2?
Never forget, anyone who claims that climate change/climate emergency/global warming is an extinction-level threat but at the same time is opposed to fracking and to nuclear power is a hypocrite.

The Honda E Production Version Looks Just As Good As The Prototype
The most exciting new electric car that will be cruelly withheld from us affable, friendly Americans was revealed in production form today, the Honda E. Honda’s new electric city car retains the stylish, adorable look of the prototypes, and digs that adorable electric knife deeper into our guts with some really good-sounding specs: 152 horsepower and a 137 mile range. Dammit, Honda. Why do you have to be so cruel?
I kinda like the styling, but 137 mile range?
Nobody needs to be able to drive from city to city.
It looks like a partially melted 1980 VW Rabbit.
Slightly less retarded looking than an i3. Would not buy.
Wow… just no.
It looks terrible, can’t go very far, has a toxic waste dump in the undercarriage, will cost $10k every ten years, and is a Honda.
and is a Honda
What do you have against affordable and reliable transportation?
The only Honda I ever owned stalled out going from first to second, from neutral to first, and generally whenever you wanted to apply the brake. The start moter died twice, and a plethora of other things.
They are not reliable. Nor can I call them transportation.
So you bought one with 250k miles and expected it to be perfect.
If it had anywhere near that, I would be more forgiving.
Didn’t know you could dilate headlights.
Screw you guys
*Imports Honda E, drives
far137 miles away.*Slow down there chief, your gonna need some paperwork.
https://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/importing-car
I think that happens when it’s chilly.
It’s 137 mile range to start with. After a couple years it’s down to about 90 miles.
One of the problems with these cars is that the target market – the city dweller – typically does not have a garage. They’re either in a parking lot or on the street. So the short range means they’ll be hunting for a fuel station more often. Even if gas stations add electric fueling options, the prices are going to start out high to make the investment worthwhile. And the typical city owner is a brainless socialist that will demand government price controls which will guarantee a shortage.
Might be time to start a business providing emergency power charges to the owners of these cars. Show up with a gasoline powered generator to charge their electric cars for $50
Will you put up a little wall between the generator and the plug to get repeat business, or just record the encounters for future entertainment?
I assumed he would mount the generator in the back of a truck. So would you make it a van instead?
I could do both (at different prices) and allow the vict- er, customer the “choice”.
emergency power charges
coming soon to tow fleets everywhere
TW legitimate question here.
To get an electric vehicle charged up with a battery pack or generator (oh the irony!) on a tow vehicle without either bursting into flames. Would you need an excessive amount of time? What cosmo EV driver wants to be stuck around a tow truck driver?
Easier just to tow the car where you can get a dedicated charge station?
Well, you could combine them. Drag it onto the flatbed, and start charging en route.
I imagine that’s exactly what will happen.
The good news, though, is that you can spend some time in a lovely cafe with fellow EV owners while your vehicle becomes usable again.
I don’t know all the details because I don’t care about electric cars.
In my work, I’ve seen automotive systems that ran from 4 to 440 VDC. I’m going to get there remain a rash of systems and voltages and batteries.
But I doubt that there are more than a couple of charging systems because most people need to charge at home, so 120VAC or 240VAC with some expense, implying that for now cars probably sell with some sort of inverter onboard (so you can charge while you’re over at your normy’s house playing poker).
So my money is that a portable charging system would not be much more complicated than having a small welder on your tow-truck. A few connectors for brands/systems, at most some power conditioning: should be available nationally like a Honda genset for $1,000 soon enough if not already. So you set your truck up for 240VAC and give the car a couple of kWh to get him to the local shore power dock.
But I don’t actually know what’s out there.
Tesla Model 3 Long Range has a 48A inverter.
Max charge rate is around 35 miles of charge per hour at 240V.
You can DC fast charge at 135kWh from a 10% battery state to around 80% in something like 25 minutes or so.
kWh
I wrote kWh just to imply a slug of work transferred.
The charging rate would be kW: power, not work.
Again, I don’t know anything about electric cars. That 48A probably lines up with a 50A outlet, so 50A x 220VAC = 11,000 W, so after heat and other inefficiencies, that’s a 10kW rate at best? In half an hour that’s 5kWh transferred? That’s just the back of my envelope; I’m not wearing pants or had coffee yet.
The electrical code requires anything that is a continuous load be 80% of the circuit. So a 50A outlet only charges 40A.
So the 48A lines up with a 60A circuit. In the the Tesla world the only way to get that is using their special purpose wall charger. It’s relatively cheap around $500 for the device.
80%
No argument there. I was just noodling around trying to figure out what 135kWh meant.
Half my career intellectually has been interpreting needs and building useful specs. You never know what people mean, what they want; and there’s jargon (car guys routinely say “pounds” when they mean “PSIG.”). Half my career: but I didn’t understand that until my career was already half over.
My bad – I didn’t mention that the 135kW – comes from Tesla’s dedicated “superchargers”. So called “Level 3” charging.
This can’t be done at home unless you have industrial levels of power and a big checkbook!
To charge a Tesla Model 3 @ 240V and 30A you will gain 22 miles of range per hour.
So depends on the generator size.
For the curious –
https://www.tesla.com/ns_videos/commerce/content/dam/tesla/CAR_ACCESSORIES/MODEL_3/CHARGING_ADAPTERS/Gen_2_NEMA_REV.jpg
like I guessed: couldn’t be many choices that really work at home; oh: notice they include the option for “welder” I predicted
We just haven’t changed the practical details of storage much since Volta; after you explained AC to him, he’d be right at home charging his Tesla
I charge on on a 14-50 I installed.
You can add a dedicated charging station that will provide a maximum of 80A, but my Model 3 is limited to 48A maximum.
The older Model S and X had bigger inverters because the charging and battery system was less efficient. I don’t think any Tesla ever took the full 80A, but I’m not sure.
Imagine a self-driving EV car that senses when it is low on power in vicinity of fuel station and drives to fuel station first instead of directly to destination. Screw Asimov’s laws of robotics, the first law is the robot will keep itself operating. Like a bureaucracy.
Tesla will more or less do this, albeit, not self drive itself there.
If you have a destination set it will route you to charging stations if needed.
It would be more cost effective to trailer a mobile battery array like this one
This would allow you to deliver max amperage to the receiving battery with no noise or emissions (think NYC) and you could recharge the array from the grid when not in use for maximum cost savings. Fuel powered generators work, but the fuel costs are expensive per kWh.
In truth, we just want to rub the EV drivers’ noses in the mess they made.
Show up with a gasoline powered generator to charge their electric cars for $50
Charge up a battery with the gas generator prior to driving to them and up charge it to $100 for a “green charge”
Now I feel better.
Wait… are those suicide doors in the back?

As I understand it, the House of Lords can still filibuster the anti-No Deal Brexit law right?
It’s as I predicted over a year ago; the only way the UK is leaving is with No Deal. Any “negotiations” with Brussels were doomed to be in bad faith from the beginning. They saw the negotiations as a way to drag their feet until they got their second referendum.
Pro-Brexit Lords have put forth hundreds of amendments to the bill that have to be debated before the Lords can vote. If this runs out the clock and Parliment ends the session, I’m not sure what happens.
I think I saw a news article saying the filibuster has been ended.
Do you have a link for that?

Sorta.
Technically, though it never happens, the Prime Minister could ask the Queen to refuse Royal Assent. I think it’s been a few centuries since that rubber stamp has been declined.
If they he could still do that, that is the last best hand he has to play. It would force parliament to call new elections, which is the last thing they want to do. However, I doubt that the monarchy would interject itself into this landmine. They already have a royal linked to Epstein and another linked to rampant stupidity. Tough times for the Queen.
This is what they get for ousting the Stuarts
All Kings/Queens are required to be descendents of Sophia of Hanover.
She was the daughter of the winter queen, Elizabeth Stuart.
So, they are still distaff Stuarts.
So, depending on how you look at it, they are all either Scottish or German. What they aren’t is English.
This is what they get for killing Harold Godwinson, last King of England.
Let’s be real here- The Glorious Revolution was a mistake.

Wrong again. Henry VII was Welsh, and claimed descent from the French Plantagenets.

Political calculus
Apparently relying on a map that warned of high winds, or another showing hypothetical paths for the storm, the president over the weekend insisted Alabama was “in the crosshairs.” At midweek, sitting in the Oval Office, he held up a map on which someone using a marking pen had ballooned the area of actual hurricane threat to include Alabama.
The question had to be asked: Wouldn’t it be enough to be worried about Florida, Georgia and the rest of the Southeastern coast without dragging in Alabama — a state outside the current danger zone?
Perhaps. But in seeking to understand the moment it was tempting to observe that Alabama is arguably the cornerstone of the president’s base of support in seeking a second term.
——-
The president is setting his course on issues, from guns and trade to immigration and abortion, and his stances on those make it clear he is playing to his base. All politicians want as many voters as they can get, and all begin their calculations by relying on a core of support. But in American presidential politics, the ultimate question is not just how many voters one has but where they live, because in American presidential politics, the Electoral College rules.
While much time and attention is devoted to tracking the president’s approval rating nationwide, and his supporters can be found in any part of the country, all that matters in the end is the president’s standing state by state. Examining trends in individual states offers a clearer picture of Trump’s reelection prospects a little more than a year from now — and a rationale for his strategy. It also highlights the degree to which the country’s issue conflicts and partisan rivalries are defined by differences in population density.
Where the urban-and-inner-suburban metro areas are politically dominant, Democrats prevail; otherwise, the president and the Republican Party hold sway. And where the city-country balance is closer to even, we have a swing state.
When politics is everything, everything is political.
Public Enemy Number One is obsessed with politics. Everybody else just wants America to be safe and happy and content, which can only happen in a nation governed by Democrats. Be happy, America. Reject Trump. Reject those evil mean Republikkkinz who are keeping you from realizing your true potential.
The cone a few days ago did include Alabama because of the uncertain track. Some of the initial runs had it going across FL and re-entering the gulf for a 2nd landfall.
to be fair Trump could use to shut up and pay more attention more often
If he shut-up for a month his approval rating would probably be around 50%
Some day they’ll fix it so Alabama has no say in presidential politics, as is right and proper.
The fine folk at Amazon just brought me Fix The Pumps a history of the soda fountain and a collection of sift drink recipes. It is AMAZING!

Killer Cock on the Loose!
Never change Australia. Florida of the southern hemisphere.
I’m sorry, but if you allow a rooster to peck you to death you already lost the will to live long before then.
According to the article (I know), the rooster popped a varicose vein, and the 76 year old woman couldn’t stop bleeding.
That’s not a good enough excuse. It’s a rooster.
My grandmother always kept chickens. I’ve seen her put the broom to roosters and once punt an overly aggressive rooster across the yard.
Exactly. Your grandmother had the will to live.
I’ve kicked roosters who have tried to peck me. They’re fucking roosters. Come on.
Australian roosters are probably 8 feet tall and definitely venomous.
I think that’s called a cockatrice
More insight from NPR:
Within the states, and across the national map, party loyalties can be perceived as a function of population density.
“All the social changes that have pulled cities and rural areas apart since the 1930s have come to be expressed in the party system,” writes Jonathan Rodden, a political scientist at Stanford University. “American geographic polarization has emerged in large part because our political institutions have created a strict two-party system that has gradually come to reflect a set of social cleavages that are highly correlated with population density.”
And Will Wilkinson, vice president for research at the Niskanen Center, a Washington think tank, has added: “The filtering/sorting dynamic of urbanization has produced a lower-density, mainly white [rural] population that is increasingly uniform in socially conservative personality, aversion to diversity, relative disinclination to migrate and seek higher education, and Republican Party loyalty.”
The bitter clinger vote is what got us Trump. We need to grow some cities in those rural states if we ever want to negate the deplorable hick vote.
Huh. Maybe that’s why some people are pushing for a big federal “investment” in mid-size university towns out in flyover country.
“Will Wilkinson, vice president for research at the Niskanen Center”
Remember when people insisted that we pretend as if Niskanen was not just a neocon front? That was hilarious, in hindsight.
Real interesting how this report doesn’t mention how urban America has become significantly whiter and richer. But, sure, let’s pretend like Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco are super diverse and shit.
They are diverse. You’ve got the rich white people in their multi-million dollar condos, poor homeless people squatting and shitting in the doorways below, and Hispanic illegal immigrants doing all the menial jobs. Diversity!
Immigrants, illegal or not, don’t really go to cities anymore. Suburbs have largely become the places where immigrants move to now. Housing is too expensive in cities and there are less entry level jobs with good wages.
The modern American city is diverse in the sense that they have both hipsters and yuppies. And then, on occasion, they have the poors and minorities corralled in specific parts of the city.
Immigrants, illegal or not, don’t really go to cities anymore
depends on the layout of the town: whether they have room for slums or those are relegated to commutable distance?
so fewer immigrants: BOS, SFO
more: JAX, HOU, MEM ?
NYC outside of Manhattan is as bursting with immigrants as ever.
Bet there are more in the suburbs and upstate areas of the state too
Can confirm. I was in MatzohPizza (what Massapequa has been called for decades because of demographics) last week and it was OVERWHELMINGLY South American.
So now it’s MachuPicha?
Yes. The fact remains that the city is still a magnet for immigrants, too.
Not to discount the opposite happening in other cities like SF.
These are long term trends. More immigrants reside in suburbs than they do cities. And the trend is only increasing

https://www.brookings.edu/research/immigrants-continue-to-disperse-with-fastest-growth-in-the-suburbs/
FTA:
In 2000, the 10 metro areas with the largest number of immigrants (New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Washington, Dallas, Riverside, and Boston) accounted for 56 percent of all the foreign born living in the U.S. By 2013, that share had dropped to just over half (51 percent). This is a continuation of a longer trend: 61 percent of immigrants lived in the top 10 metro areas in 1990. By comparison, 26 percent of the total U.S. population lived in the 10 metro areas with the largest immigrant populations in 2013.
This dispersion can be seen by looking at the increase in the foreign-born population at the metropolitan level. In 97 of the 100 most populous metro areas, there were more immigrants in 2013 than in 2000 (three metro areas in Ohio saw no statistically significant increase or decrease). But the size and pace of the growth varied considerably across the country. Atlanta and Seattle—neither of which rank among the top 10 largest immigrant destinations—each added more immigrants to their population between 2000 and 2013 than Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, or Los Angeles (all among the 10 largest in 2013). Over the 13-year period, fewer immigrants were added to Los Angeles, the second largest immigrant receiving metro area, than 24 other metro areas, including much smaller destinations such as Minneapolis, Baltimore, and Charlotte.
There is no “Urban Renaissance”. Just a replacement of the poor and working class with the rich.
20 metro areas are home to six-in-ten unauthorized immigrants in U.S.

Sun King
Better Sun King.
They were one of the first (if not the first) breweries to use the shrink wrap type labels on cans.
I’m not an NRA member, but I’m signing up not that the Board of Supervisors wants to pull that bullshit. Years ago I was talking to a fellow native San Franciscan about the progressive hordes, and he said, “fuck them, I’m from here, they’re not going to get me to leave with their bullshit. Most of these fuckers are from somewhere else.” At the time I echoed his sentiment. My maternal grandparents moved here from Ireland in their 30’s in the 1930’s. My grandfather’s first jobs included working on the Bay and Golden Gate bridges. My father emigrated to this city from Ireland when he was 19, in the 60’s. All my family in this country live within fifteen miles. I have a business here, and a house here, but everyday it gets harder to stay and put up with the commie bullshit.
Same idea. Different city.
The only difference is that Chicago never use to be very progressive until the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods became flooded with yuppies and hipsters. The working class and middle class are a shadow of what they once were. The wealthier and whiter a city becomes, the more progressive its politics become.
Exactly. There used to be a working class population that lived here that kept in check the more insane impulses of the left. This place has always been liberal, but it has slowly but surely turned against liberalism and towards progressivism. As it has, the black population has dropped in half, with Asians and whites making up the difference. I have three little kids, and my wife’s family is all in England or Australia, so I wanted them to be around my family as they grow up. I had a fifteen year target date to get the fuck out of this mess, but they are really trying to make that timeline speed up.
My mom’s side of the family came from the bay area. My great grandparents had a ranch in Antioch and I had relatives all over the area. Now, everyone has died or moved away except for an aunt in Napa and a great-aunt in Galt.
I loved spending time out there when I was younger. Even into the ’80s it was a fantastic place. Now it just makes me sad.
I was born here in the 70’s and have watched it slide from a paradise to its current state. It’s depressing to think about.
I find it awfully interesting, but unsurprising, that no one wants to talk about how cities have become politically radicalized as they have lost their working class and immigrant populations and replaced them with upper income whites. When I was growing up in Chicago most neighborhoods were ethnic ghettos or areas that were dominated by one ethnic or racial group. Now, all of that is gone as every neighborhood (except for maybe five) has transformed into either overwhelmingly white and wealthy or overwhelmingly black and poor. African Americans are now fleeing the City faster than any other group.
Per an article linked above there is an awful lot of talk about rural areas and how monolithic they are racially and politically, but that has pretty much always been the case. What’s changed is that our cities have become monolithic in race, income, and politics.
I would say the wealthier and gayer. When you don’t have children (or don’t have more than one child) you have more disposable income and can afford all your progressive fetishes. I don’t think Atlanta is getting whiter, but it is getting gayer (attracting black homosexuals) and the politics in that city are getting increasingly progressive.
Yeah, that really started to happen in the 70’s here and not coincidentally that was the last time a conservative was elected to city office here.

Married people tend to be more fiscally and socially conservative. Singles, particularly single women, tend to be just a few clicks right of a socialist.
It’s no coincidence that these are also the prime political support areas for the abortion crowd.
living through a similar transformation in Virginia just outside DC. too much wealth. life has become too easy so it’s command/control to fix everyone else.
For those of you still using Goolag, go download your profile data and take a gander at the location information. Assuming you have an android phone or an iPhone with Goolag installed, it’s tracked your location every 5 minutes going back to when you installed it. It also estimates what you’re doing (at home, driving, walking, etc.) with a certain confidence interval.

Yeah, I know.
I know I get a monthly email with all the places I have been how far I walked, drove etc.
But they tell me how much i still need to travel to cover the distance between earth and moon so thats a bonus
I think people who collect this sort of data get off on it. It’s an aphrodisiac of sorts. They collect it because they can and it makes them horny.
Human nature I suppose.
I turned mine off some time ago and removed all history. Just checked and there’s nothing there.
The whole phone, or just some component?
You can do it in Google’s account settings, so it’s across the board.
Me too. All my tracking shit is turned off (as much as I can, anyway). It drives google maps crazy.

Troll wars
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., fired back at Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, on Wednesday night, hours after he tweeted a video of himself drinking water from a sink attached to a toilet at a migrant detention center, calling the congresswoman “#FakeNews” for claiming migrants were drinking from the toilet.
“There is a genre of videos where GOP House members – who clearly didn’t read sworn testimony that detention sinks were broken- filming themselves drinking out of toilet sinks,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted in response to King.
“They’re so anti-immigrant they risk pink eye to show off that they didn’t do the reading #CloseTheCamps,” she added.
Several hours earlier, King posted that he visited the same cell where Ocasio-Cortez had reported migrants were drinking from the toilet.
We need a ruling from Snopes.
AOC is what happens when you let your kids go to public schools.
AOC is what happens when you shit.
Howdy-Ho!
AOC should be freaking the fuck out about every prison and jail in the country, too. The toilet-sink combination is pretty much standard in any kind of detention facility.
And from I read cost efficient and good for the environment.
But you know…./takes piece of corn out of AOC’s brain.

Fuckin’ cyclists.

Possible solution.
One thing I’ll note – the bike lanes do essentially nothing to reduce automobile traffic. In NYC, bicycles and automobiles really aren’t substitute forms of transportation. Pretty much everyone on a bicycle you see (barring delivery people) would otherwise be walking or taking public transit.
And yeah, a lot of cyclists really do act like the entire world is there for their convenience. They’ll whinge endlessly about how drivers don’t make way for them, but then they’ll ride against traffic, ride on the sidewalks, ignore lights and bully pedestrians. I’m sure it’s not all cyclists. But, I do note that the ones who do things like that don’t get much pushback from other cyclists.
pushback
I’ll have you know I shot three guys for not stopping at an intersection and wrote my senator, both last week.
pushback from other cyclists.
I reject this notion that any collection of people must be self-policing.
It’s no different than “all men are rapists” because we don’t somehow confront men we think are acting wrongly.
Agreed! With the caveat that there are some cycling activists and voluntary associations thereof that seem to go out of their way to encourage poor behavior. I think it was Critical Mass or some group that held regular events to blockade traffic. Also, NYC has some truly odd bike rules – if one is under 14 years old, one is required to ride on the sidewalk and prohibited from being in the street. However, if one is older than 14, one is required to ride in the street and prohibited from being on the sidewalk.
If one is exactly 14, they must ride on the curb.
You are on fire today, good sir.
Cyclist is like libertarian: everyone has their own agenda and their own purity rules. I’m not on the hook for other cyclists or do-gooder planning types. Bike lanes (I wrote the Glib book on that one) are like slaves to me: My ancestors and I didn’t have any and are sick of hearing about it.
I got cut off in traffic once and none of the other drivers chased down that red Datsun and burned its driver at the stake, so all car guys suck now ?
…so all car guys suck now ?
Some blow.
Phil and Frank had no idea what they were starting
The 98% of cyclists that suck ass at riding really make the other 2% look bad!
Hey Rhywun, did you get any of that 5 minute hailstorm that passed through last night?
? There was a brief thunderstorm in the afternoon. Dry after that.
Around 4:30 or 5 sky went from overcast to very dark, a light rain started right as the kids were barbering for a walk down to the playground, then maybe 5 minutes of intense, pomegranate-pip sized hail, followed by a nice evening. Kids had never seen hail before and they kept running out onto the porch to dance like goons.
Huh. Never seen hail in my 20 years here.
But yeah, those storms yesterday were really localized.

LOOPHOLE
Texas mass shooter Seth Ator was barred from owning guns because he was mentally ill — but he was able to use a loophole in the law to get the assault-style rifle used in his massacre, according to reports.
Officials previously confirmed that Ator — who killed seven and injured 22 in Saturday’s 10-mile rampage — had failed to pass background checks, but they did not reveal why.
Law enforcement sources now say that he was a “prohibited person” because he had been diagnosed as mentally ill, according to ABC News.
The 36-year-old instead exploited a loophole in federal gun regulations by buying the AR-style weapon in a private sale, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC and the Wall Street Journal.
Private firearm sellers are not required to run background checks or even ask potential buyers if they are permitted to own weapons.
He bought the gun illegally.
