Here’s another week’s snark from the peanut gallery as to who’s too big for their britches in the NCAA game as it is assessed and ranked and reported.
Speaking briefly of galleries instead of team rankings, we wish to note that BYU this week played in front of their fifth largest crowd ever: 92,000. We don’t wish to note that they won, taking the Vols to 0 – 2 on the year, but we do note that (our) coach Jeremy Pruitt will make $3.8M this year all the while UT continues to pay former coach Butch Jones $2.4M per year net of the fabulous $35k he was raking in last year as an analyst at Bama.
Ranking college football teams remains contentious stuff. Last week I had a fresh slate of opinions, and now there are results; let’s take a look!
Week Two Most OverRated Football Program Results
1 Iowa St our new king simply spent the weekend napping
2 Florida stomped accounting powerhouse UT Martin
3 Utah bested Northern Illinois exactly by the margin expected
3 Syracuse lost to Maryland by over forty
5 Texas lost to LSU but only to the degree we expected
5 Michigan St sent Western Michigan crying back to western Michigan
5 Georgia blasted nationally ranked normal school Murray State
8 UCF punked local directional patsy Florida Atlantic
9 Notre Dame rested up since big bad New Mexico is coming to town soon
9 Texas A&M lost to Clemson by the margin expected
9 Auburn washed over Tulane
12 Stanford lost by 25 to USC
12 Clemson see Texas A&M
12 Oklahoma destroyed doctor and lawyer mill South Dakota
12 Oregon owned Nevada
Off topic: Michigan wasn’t necessarily over-rated, so I didn’t have an opinion on them, but they notably underperformed by a baker’s dozen by edging Army by only 3. Washington was obviously over-ranked, but I completely failed to notice and so get zero credit for their loss to Cal at home.
I’m going to call Syracuse and Stanford my first hides on the wall for the year: their deep humiliations prove they had no business being ranked whatsoever. I’m also going to reclass Washington State from last week from a blown call to a small win because they were downgraded seriously (thanks: forget who pointed that out) after my call, so I really wasn’t wrong to call them over-ranked; it’s a spike, not the sort of buck one would have mounted, but the meat is going in the freezer nonetheless.
No Longer OverRated Because I was Wrong
nothing new this week
LSU from last week
Okay, the pollsters saw those games, so they have new opinions . . . so I have new opinions:
Week N + 1 Most OverRated Football Program Results
1 Utah is skyrocketing in the vacuum just because they haven’t lost
2 Florida is also buoyed in the over-ratedness by the national blandness
3 Notre Dame has a great schedule that will tell much
4 Auburn getting that undeserved SEC love?
5 Boise St joins my list of the damned
5 Oregon will play Washington St, U Wash, and USC this year
7 Texas their stock is getting much closer to right after the loss
8 Georgia continues over-loved at least a little
8 Clemson can’t be tested if they don’t play anybody
8 Oklahoma will play the Horns, but nobody else that matters
Iowa State fell completely out of the ratings, so I’ll take that as another tepid told-ya-so.
Texas A&M fell four spots and is no longer over-rated, another good call.
UCF seems to be on their way and maybe wasn’t over-rated; I’ll accept the miss on this one.
Michigan State is cooking along, so I’ll take this as another miss.
Score YTD: 4 to 3 with 10 opinions outstanding
I’ll continue to have opinions (shock!) and will heckle the AP poll in particular. Eventually the committee over at the College Football Playoff will start to publish their rankings, and we’ll then switch to heckling them.
So closes another week.
Disclosure of sources of bias: your writer has attended the University of Tennessee, Memphis State and the University of Memphis, Christian Brothers College . . . and he sleeps with an alumna of Georgia whose parents met at Washington State . . . and his son went to Houston . . . and he particularly hates Notre Dame, UCF, and Clemson.
How many wickets per free-throw did they earn?
Love-Love in the 3rd period
Someone must have flopped on the downs.
Nah, bases-loaded stalemate. Ya hate ta see it.
Gollllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!
*meant as response to the wickets/free-throw question.
Sticky or non-sticky?
Leg before.
125 gold and an armor token.
“5 Boise St joins my list of the damned”
SHUT YOUR DIRTY WHORE MOUTH!!!
Teams should be rendered ineligible for the playoff and any of the good bowls if they play an FCS team. If you need a tune up, schedule a G6 team.
SEC teams play 15 FCS teams this year. And if the 15 P5 teams that don’t play one, 10 are from the Big Ten…who also play one more conference game than the SEC.
“But, like, they are so good they don’t have to play as many conference games or decent OOC opponents to prove how good they are. They can do so against Sun Belt teams in November.”
10 are from the Big Ten
I’m still pissed the B1G went back on their commitment to stop playing FCS teams. Hopping down a division to scrimmage against an outmatched opponent is something that shouldn’t count in the win column.
How is Syracuse not #1 under any methodology? They got pole-axed.
Also, Tennessee was overrated by not even being ranked. But they’re still Champions At Life.
I saw that Syracuse loss coming but it still hurts me.
Who were playing their 3rd string GB. *snickers*
QB
Kansas was clearly overrated at 109.
Was laughing about that one. Coastal Carolina was evacuated from their campus last week. Their football team spent the week living and practicing at… Clemson. I wonder if they got some scrimmage time against the Tigers.
Iowa has played well, but Iowa State has that quarterback – who was really good last year! – and should play well, which hopefully will lead to another old school, mid-90s pro-style offense slogfest.
Your Air Raids have no place in the heartland!
Oklahoma and Okie State hardest hit.
WSU is playing Houston tonight – the father and step-father of the Air Raid going head to head – so I will get my Raid jollies later today.
Beta has a new campaign shirt. Dude’s gone full Swalllowswell.
I usually cringe reading the replies, both progressive and conservative because nobody on Twitter can frame an argument. The first thread following that is pretty great though.
Best reply:
“i’m sorry your campaign is over and this ironic tee shirt e-commerce site is all you have left robby ?”
I don’t know, I liked: “Doubt it comes in Men’s sizes”
Or the reply shirt that says “Betas for Beto” 😀
Now I need to buy a cheap AR and name it Beto.
And after that they’ll have to close the loophole that allows people to have non-AR type guns.
Molon Labe.
I’m starting to wonder if the Democrats are so isolated from normal people, they are headed for an election disaster. In NC, Democrats got absolutely smoked in the kind of districts they have to win next year. They have memory-holed it in the media, but their messages look awful for general elections.
“I’m starting to wonder if the Democrats are so isolated from normal people”
LOLOLOLOL
The real problem is they’re not isolated from the news media, the entertainment industry, the schools, academia, government drones, politicians, and business leaders.

Yes, indeed.
^^this.
Record unemployment numbers are not going unnoticed. And beyond that, there’s been an general increase in opportunity. Just switching jobs will probably net you a pay increase. And far more businesses are being started.
/raises hand.
I got a hefty pay raise to take a lower position at a different company ~18 months ago.
I for one appreciate his candor. I’ve log believed that we’ll eventually lose our 2A rights by death from 1000 cuts. We’ll just keep making small “commonsense” reforms and over the course of 2-3 generations nobody will care when they finally put the nail in the coffin on private ownership. Stunts like Robert Francis is pulling do more to wake people up and solidify the opposition than anything else.
Yeah. The stupid gun grabbers rip off the mask early and get greedy, rather than ratchet it.
I would like to note that Double-barrel Joe was the only one to make even a vague, half-hearted appeal to the Constitution during the whole thing. And not once was the constitutional legality of any of the leftist crazy-trains grandiose idea questioned. They think they can do whatever they want when and how they want. They think they are running to be elected dictator (ala Kamala Marx…). And I was drinking/commenting/reading but I am pretty sure I recall Bug-eyed Booker making a Revolutionary War appeal to justify his desired gun-grab. That war started because of a gun-grab.
I guess this is why I grew so bitter over at TOS with the constant “Progressives are bad but remember the right is just as bad if not worse” Without glossing over or giving a pass to the myriad transgressions against liberty made by Team Red, at least I don’t get the feeling that they’d like to see me bowed, broken or disappeared for daring to stand in the way of their glorious utopia. The rhetoric coming out of the left wing is baldly totalitarian. There is no real equivalence.
Yeah, it annoys the shit out of me, too. It’s not double-entry moral bookkeeping. Just because Progressives are shit about something doesn’t mean conservatives have to be equally shit about something else. And just because conservatives are shit about something doesn’t mean that it balances out against Progressivism’s accounts. They are NOT two sides of the same coin. They’re fundamentally different. That doesn’t mean that the right is always better or should be excused for any bad qualities simply because they’re not quite so bad as the Progs or whatever, it just means that you should consider them as separate entities and judge them according to a single standard.
They are NOT two sides of the same coin.
The same side of two different coins both rigged to land FYTW-side up.
Why?
Well lets see, there aren’t any members of Team Red calling for me to be forcibly disarmed. There aren’t any members of Team Red calling for my domicle to be destroyed and rebuilt to the standards handed down by TOP MEN. There aren’t any members of Team Red calling for me to give up air travel and red meat in the name of saving mother Gaia. There aren’t any members of Team Red wanting to lock me up for violating speech codes……
Need I go on? Like I said, I’m not giving them a pass but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Team Blue is objectively more hostile to liberty.
To me you’re comparing a bag of feces to a flaming bag of feces – they are both bags of feces.
Additionally, Beto O’Rourke isn’t going to take away your guns and AOC isn’t going to take your money to feed the planet – they don’t have that power – but President Trump did just quickly drop the banhammer on e-cigarettes and is single-handedly influencing the economy (which the Senate is allowing), Josh Hawley wants to control the internet, and who knows how many members of Team Red want to stay in Afghanistan, fuck with China and invade Iran, and while I’m not certain if the Team Red threat is more immediate, I think it very well may be.
People balked when I said that supporting the GOP is like picking up a donut out of a pile of horse shit and taking a bite. Supporting the Dems is like picking up the pile of horse shit and digging in because a few crumbs of donut fell in it.
they don’t have that power
Isn’t that the point, though? One is running for president, and the other is the most public member of congress. They may not have the power, but they’re in position to get the power if we play these equivocation games.
I guess, for me, it comes down to the nature of cultural movements. Maybe an apt comparison is the French Revolution. Conservatism Inc could be a stand-in for the old aristocracy. The radical Left could be a stand in for the revolutionaries.
Sure the old aristocracy is shit but they aren’t the ones poised to usher in the Reign of Terror. Hand the country over to the Republicans (excepting some of the worst neo-cons) we continue on as a slowly crumbling Republic.
Hand the country over to the Progressives we tank the economy and ban individual autonomy with all the crimes of humanity that come along with it. The left has the momentum and the True Believers which is why I see it as more dangerous.
Trump did just quickly drop the banhammer on e-cigarettes
Like with guns, I assume bluster until something actually transpires.
The left has the momentum and the True Believers
True believers are the most dangerous because they believe their actions are moral. When come to gun-grabber, for instance, they are either ignorant or mendacious about what would actually happen should their desires be attempted.
“Additionally, Beto O’Rourke isn’t going to take away your guns”
Make him President, and he’ll appoint justices who will.
Trade wars, actual wars, diverting money from an ongoing actual war to build a wall, deciding on a whim to ban a product because “the children”, that’s blah, but some nitwit trying to stay relevant during a political debate sharing an impotent fever dream, that should be my worry?
To continue the analogy, yes, they’re both bags of feces, but one is also on fire. The fire part isn’t a minor difference. Which bag would you rather pick up, if you had to choose one?
Trade wars
Legitimately bad
actual wars
Which ones did trump start? Also, I can think of exactly one candidate who would be better on this issue, and she hasnt made it to the big kids table yet.
diverting money from an ongoing actual war to build a wall
I’m not open borders, so this isn’t all that bad to me.
deciding on a whim to ban a product because “the children”
So far its the same “just talk” that the left is engaged in. Even if it doesn’t get shut canned, If I have to choose, I’ll take the team that has a ban boner going for flavored ecigs rather than the one rubbing their raging erection to the thought of gun confiscation, banning internal combustion engines, etc.
“Which ones did trump start?”
This has nothing to do with Trump, but since he is the party of power and is now responsible for the ongoing wars, I would like him to end them, however his party really seems to want them to continue.
“I’m not open borders, so this isn’t all that bad to me.”
I have an issue with the fact that the executive branch unilaterally diverted billions to their pet project. I also assume, because it’s a government project, it is going to be full of wasteful spending.
I guess I really don’t like it when 4 billion dollars is taken from A to B just ’cause.
“I’ll take the team that has a ban boner going for flavored ecigs rather than the one rubbing their raging erection to the thought of gun confiscation, banning internal combustion engines, etc.”
The slippery slope has to start somewhere.
To an extent, it comes down to priorities. If you’re a transsexual atheist in rural Alabama, maybe the progressive insanity in CA is distant, but progressive support of pride and church-stare separation is important to you.
I think that falls apart when you get into economics, though. Torpedoing the economy fucks up everybody’s lives.
“Progressives are bad but remember the right is just as bad if not worse”
This was true a couple of decades ago. It hasn’t even been remotely true for the past decade and in the last few years, there isn’t even any real comparison, the dems have went completely authoritarian on every single issue.
Yeah that GOP is really anti-authoritarian.
Strawman.
Also, something something lesser of two evils.
Well, Crusty, you should worry about what you think you should worry about. I’m not going to argue with me. When one party says they’re going to take my guns, take my home, take away my lifestyle and prosperity completely to chase their green fantasies, take away free speech because it’s too dangerous, take away my car, ruin our economy, kill us all by stopping oil production, saying they hate white people and want to take my stuff just because of my skin color… OK, have you even listened to these wack-os lately? I don’t think I need to make a case, it’s obvious.
Again, not arguing with you about this.
Bad threading.
Glad I waited to reply, second what you said.
I don’t see where he said that. Less authoritarian =/= anti-authoritarian.
Exactly.
Oh okay. So they’re both authoritarian, but one wants to be worse, so I should worry about the one who wants to be worse rather than the one that is worse?
When I go out tonight with a lady I’ve been seeing I am going to worry about getting back into her pants instead of worrying about my fantasy of gingerly running my tongue along Margot Robbie’s sweaty anus.
But hey, that Margot Robbie, huh?
so I should worry about the one who wants to be worse rather than the one that is worse?
This makes zero sense.
Trump’s negative legacy is that he banned bump stocks, is tariff happy, hasn’t wound down our international interventionism, had only one good SCOTUS pick, and is talking about banning flavored e-cigs.
In what world is Hillary a better candidate just because she lost the election last time and isn’t currently in power? We’re talking about all of this in the context of who next gets the power.
Where did I say anything about Hillary?
Where did I say anything about Hillary?
There are two ways of analyzing politics. You can compare them absolutely to an ideological ideal, in which case both parties are bags of shit. Alternatively, you can compare them relatively to one another. The only way that makes sense is to look at two available options, and hypothesize on the counter factual if the losing option were to win.
In 2016, it was trump v Hillary. Those were the two options. In 2020, it’s Trump v your pick of maybe the top 6 dem candidates. To compare them, it makes no sense to say “such and so doesn’t have the power to do X” when they’re vying for the power to do X.
Where did I say anything about Hillary?
“sweaty anus”
Is Beta the most recent gun and ammo sales marketing genius?
He hasn’t inspired a single purchase by me. He will never be president.
The worst possible scenario I can even imagine is that ol Joe gets the nom and choosed Warren as his VP. That would sort of check all the boxes. The establishment is happy they got their guy, the progs are happy because they get commie Warren as VP and Biden may not live out his first term. The feminazis are happy because vagina.
That’s the dems only shot, but I still think they will lose.
I fear Harris more. All the worst policies + Top Cop. Their all authoritarians but that bitch has NOS boosters.
She’d rule by decree with the cover of the msm, for sure.
“I fear Harris more.”
She’s lose in a landslide. Let Trump just start up about some of her antics as prosecutor. She’s even lose the black vote.
Not sure why my keyboard has replaced the d key with an s.
Racist keyboard no doubt.
NHL opens camp today and you are writing about college football?!?
Have you no decency, sir?
Not only that, but my team’s kickoff meeting is next Wednesday. FINALLY we have sports to talk about.
kickoff? Is that some sort of joke?
Chips, I like the way you think. You’d get along just great with my teammates.
We’ve been hearing all summer that the Lightning were hoping to have Brayden Point negotiations wrapped up by training camp. Well, so much for that. I just hope it doesn’t drag into the season…
I’m surprised at how many unsigned free agents there still are. It’s a bad deal for those guys and the teams. You can definitely tell when a guy starts late. It often takes 1/3 of the season to get going.
The Wild signed Fiala a couple days ago for the term and money he was projected to get all along. Not sure what the fuck Vancouver is doing with Boesser, either. I’d take that guy in a heartbeat.
I’d sign Marner to a poison pill contract to screw over Toronto.
You’ll be set. They’re holding out #3 and #4 goalies from pre season and camp to make sure they don’t get injured. They’ll get optioned to minor league affiliate to clear cap for Point.
I don’t doubt he’ll get signed. It’s the “when” that concerns me…
We must talk about games that end 77-6.
Football > hockey because tighter pants. It is known.
Please.
Even puppies love hockey players.
Cute! Nice dogs, too.
I thought some of you would like that one.
Marcus Foglino, by the way. Got him from Buffalo. One of my favorite fourth line guys we’ve had on the team.
Puppies love everyone.
I bet if you were stupid enough to risk your puppy in charlie manson’s hands, it’d totally lick his face before getting its neck broken.
GT has never seen Slapshot!
Great scene. The old lady with the binocs is hilarious!
College Football > NFL.
I wish I were more into hockey. The CBJ this season should be uh, interesting.
Why don’t I see Tennessee?
The curve of the earth gets in the way.
We also would have accepted “Because there’s too many letters in ‘MISSISSIPPI'”
Because the asshole of college football hasn’t been Goatse’d enough to glimpse where they are on the college football landscape yet.
Tennessee will do just about anything for good publicity.
Way to celebrate being a WHITE victim, SEC.
Cool story. But what if the kid turns out to be a moron? Are they still expected to honor the free ride?
Lol. You know the answer.
This bullying thing annoys me. Up your fucking game, kid. That shirt was half-assed and you know it.
The fact that he wore that with any expectation of NOT being mercilessly ridiculed lends credence to the assumption that he is in fact a moron. I don’t want to be mean about it kid but seriously.
It’s also possible that this was contrived and the kids smart in a cynical, devious way.
There is no way the kid isn’t a moron. In addition what the hell parents? Also he’s in gator country.
So, future Floridaman?
Florida man don’t care.
So is the team it represents. So the kid deserves NOTHING!
Lol. I’m kidding.
Since when is being a moron a disqualifier for college entry?
The kid will just have to choose between Tennessee and Harvard.
The story kinda sucks.
Compare it to your Carolina Panthers story that was ratioed to death on Twitter.
But what if the kid turns out to be a moron
We’ll have to wait until he is about 30 to find out since it’s hard to tell a moron from a victim of our modern
educationindoctrination system.Jesus Christ dude those kids were doing that kid a favor. Somebody had to tell him. My gawd.
I mean, this is the type of shit you get when there isn’t a strong male role model in the home to stop him walking out the door looking like an asshole.
Also, I thought Tennessee had a football program and stuff. What the hell happened?
They fired Phil Fulmer in 2008.
That is one shitty design. He needs to learn how to take criticism.
Thumbs up on the crossword. I suck at them but have gotten at least 75% of the way through it, so it might be too easy. Some of your clues are 180 degrees out of phase. Why would you call the smallest double reed “tall?”
What does hautbois mean?
High-pitched wood
Well, “haut” is only high, so you can say it also means tall.
I’m reminded of the cryptic crosswords that use “stingy worker” as a clue for BEE.
Ok, so then I’m the asshole for putting down ‘JEW’?
>>5 Michigan St sent Western Michigan crying back to western Michigan
that’s always a foregone conclusion – I have no idea why they even match ’em up. Western won against State 2 times in their history! MSU? 14.
http://www.winsipedia.com/michigan-state/vs/western-michigan
THE® Ohio State University is 78-8-4 all-time vs. Indiana but they still have to play them every year.
(Also, trying copyright THE is the stupidest thing ever)
For anyone that is interested, this is what I ordered for a gun cabinet.
Small be enough to fit in my master bedroom.
Sports related: Do We Even Need Minor League Baseball?
MLB’s approach to the minor leagues is ripe for change in part because of how much data can be collected off the field these days. Independent hitting instructor Doug Latta tells his clients that they “don’t need much space to get better,” as improving via reps, video analysis and ball-tracking tech lessens the need for a player to play in regulation games. Latta worked with Marlon Byrd, Justin Turner and Hunter Pence in various storage-like facilities just before they changed their approach at the plate and improved their performance. Cody Bellinger was already a good major league player but became great this season after he changed his swing in similar modest spaces last winter. While batting cages have existed since Rickey invented them, they’ve never been the feedback machines they are today when outfitted with ball-, bat- and body-tracking tech.
On the pitching side, it’s perhaps even easier to gain skills. Adam Ottavino designed a new cutter last winter in a vacant Manhattan storefront that he outfitted with baseball’s cutting-edge tech. The Los Angeles Dodgers held several low-value minor league pitchers back from minor league games in 2016, giving them something of an extended spring training at their complex to see if they could improve throwing velocity. Dodgers pitchers Corey Copping and Andrew Istler learned how to throw harder and subsequently became trade chips last summer.
Luke warm take: I know it is hip to say minor league games are great entertainment, but it sucks. Tickets are cheaper but you still have to pay to park and the food is still overpriced. The baseball is meh. I have been thinking for awhile that it can’t be long before the minor leagues are trimmed down significantly.
Do the teams not make money?
Now? no. They used to, back when radio was about the only home entertainment available (or prior to that). Branch Rickey bought out several minor league teams for the Dodgers and created the “farm system”. They were meant to funnel up players within a team’s ownership system to avoid paying large sums in trades.
They are heavily subsidized by their respective major league team.
Making revenue for practicing is a lot better than paying some guy to meet you in shady warehouse.
Minor League Baseball still seems pretty popular here in the Cleveland area. You’ve got the Avon Crushers, Akron Rubber Ducks, and the Picantes de Lake County (aka the Lake Erie Captains). My sister’s family likes to go to the Captains games, parking there I think is ~$5-$10, and they said the beer/food prices were reasonable.
It’s as if defense and base running don’t even matter.
Kinda, the Yankees have the best record.
…or laying down a bunt against the shift. I know not everybody can outrun the throw, but at some point you gotta try to beat the odds.
Columbus Clippers International League Champions Bitches!!!!!
Anecdotal evidence I know, but the Dayton Dragons have been record-setting popular for the 20 seasons since they came to town. Originally the Reds’ High-A team, but got demoted to low-A when (I suspect) owners figured out folks would show up anyway. Yes, the playing generally sucks – we just repeat to ourselves, “It’s all about player development.”
I probably should have changed my response to FB above to say most minor league teams don’t make money, at least that’s not their main purpose.
I also shouldn’t have used quotes around farm system.
I find Syracuse getting absolutely ass blasted by MD to be gut wretchingly funny.
It’s astonishing, honestly. I would’ve guessed the program would be pretty much dead for a few years after last season, but I am very happy to be proven wrong.
Watch Temple just dominate tomorrow. Whatever else it is, Maryland is a DC-area sports team, and that means crushing disappointment on the horizon.
I would expect nothing else. It’s just funny how bad they’ve been for gawd a decade now. I’m not really a MD fan at all though. But good luck this year.
Durkin recruited well, the quarterback is experienced, and Locksley learned at the foot of the master, so I am not surprised they are doing well.
Syracuse getting blown out saddens me greatly, but they look like shit against Liberty so I wasn’t surprised.
I think the quarterback was a big part of that. He looked good at Va Tech.
It is a source of great amusement to me that Ryan Willis and the Hokies look like garbage while Jackson has been tearing it up for Maryland.
But the question is, do I play Marquis Brown or Jordan Landry this week?
I’ll say Brown since Jordan Landry isn’t a real player.
Jarvis*
Sorry to be an asshat.
If that is your biggest problem though, your team must be solid otherwise.
Tarik Cohen or James Connor?
JC for me.
I’m assuming he’s referring to Jarvis.
He meant Jarvis.
It’s like a Tony Stark echo chamber in here.
I have no idea what to make of Brown he only played like 10 snaps and was thrown to like every time he was out there. The Browns blow always bet on the Browns Browning all over themselves.
As my one friend texted me during the game last Sunday, “This is good it free[s] up my Sunday afternoons again[.] It’s been nice the last 15 years not being tied down”.
What to make of Hollywood Brown.
OT: Porn site BangBros submits bid to rename Miami Heat arena

OT personal update: I posted about this a while back but it’s official as of yesterday; I’m relocating and returning to the great inland NW!! Goodbye West Virginia, I shant miss your fat, ignorant citizenry, your unashamed cries for federal welfare, your dreary gray/brown winters, your hot-muggy summers. If there are any Glibs in the Spokane area I’d be happy to meet up.
Congrats. Glad for you it’s Spokane and not Portlandia.
Having lived there before there certainly is a hardcore prog element to Spokane but it’s much less pervasive and in-you-face than a place like Portland or Seattle. We’ll see what changes have happened in the last 7 years…..
Always liked Spokane. Interesting city.
Congratulations, and good luck on the move.
Can confirm Spokane has plenty of fat, ignorant citizenry as well. At least our summers aren’t muggy, and you’ll get used to the forest fire smoke.
OT and I believe NSFW but could HM please come to the white courtesy phone for this.
OMG YOU BEAT ME!
Solidarity, friend.
I’m glad Crusty is finding work.
That article is not about handsome man with a big weiner and hilarious jokes who gets all the chicks, so I have no idea why it is linked to me.
OT: This looks likes a large collection of white women with nice tushies participating in some sort twerking training camp.
This is what it takes to get a noticed by a man these days. Remember men, even when we lose, we win.
Gospel truth.
Don, I made a homer comment about UCF last week. Looking over their schedule, I agree they might be very over-rated.
When Houston and East Carolina are the toughest teams on your schedule…
True Conservative™ Max Boot loves him some gun confiscation because Orange Man Bad
The best thing about the Trump years, BY FAR, is the clarification of it all. So many masks dropped.
And boy has the shark jumped. I can’t wait to see them try to “clarify” and claim that they didn’t mean that and aren’t for taking our guns.
“No one is coming to take your guns!” is now dead and buried as a talking point. Not that it ever was true in the first place, but now they’re being explicit about it.
I kind of miss being lied to.
I don’t. Seems there may be some exception, albiet from a place of stupidity and hubris, to Suthen’s “Gun Grabbers always lie.” I can respect an enemy that looks you in the eye and toes the lion.
They still lie. They are acting like it would be legal, popular, and non violent.
Only crazy murderous people would fight against it.
I think they’d be surprised by how many crazy murderous people they govern. At least I’d like to think that….
…and how many boating incidents people had.
I guess I miss the idea that you don’t bray about gun confiscation at a political debate because it would be so outside of the norm and unacceptable it’d be a kiss of death. That’s apparently not the case anymore. If his numbers go up the rest of them are going to pick up that mantra.
Well didn’t one of them say something along the lines of “life begins at breath”? Time was even if you were pro-choice you would still at least offer lip service to the idea of some kind of limits or restrictions on abortion.
It wasn’t the case in the 1990s. Of course, after they passed the damned thing (they hadn’t run on it), they got trounced in the next election.
I’m thinking this will rile their base but alienate the rest of the country. Their confirming what we already know. This makes me optimistic that they’ll get a mandate from the public, but not in the way they’re thinking….To your point, yeah, We’re still probably f-d in the long run.
Don’t worry. After the Dems get trounced next year, they’ll be happy to go right back to lying to you.
The honesty is really refreshing at this point.
I don’t think they will even try to walk it back or clarify. They think that America is fully ready for gun confiscation. I mean, the America they know, is. In case you missed it, they are fully and permanently encased in their bubble now. They no longer even realize that the rest of us exist. Which is why when they lose even more elections, they will be eve more shocked because ‘They don’t even know a single person who voted for [fill in the blank]’. This is why they now are always making statements like ‘100% of Americans want… Every American wants… All Americans agree…’. No dummies, all Americans do not agree on any fucking thing, not a damn thing.
Americans want… Every American wants… All Americans agree
And everyone has been dummed down to where they forget that the US government is not allowed to do something just because people want it*.
*Not that it stops it.
I’m hoping Beto tours some open carry city and is confronted by a bunch of peeps with ARs taunting him to come and take it.
Boot is an unprincipled warmongering authoritarian asshat that unites the left and the right in their hatred for him. Fuck that guy.
Nah, I don’t think the left hates him. In fact, if he goes full on tard enough about Trump, they’ll prop him up as their next hero who’s going to take down Trump, just like they did with McCain. There is no character alive vile enough that they won’t embrace just as soon as they have a reason.
Max Boot?
That’s the exact image I conjure up every time I hear his name.
Dammit, my Randian friend at work just got laid off. Now I have nobody to give knowing glances to during HR struggle sessions.
The end of two player bullshit bingo at your org?
Now he’ll have to play with himself.
Q will be over in a minute to post the props.
I’m sorry you have to go through this.
He would be disappointed in your selfless concern for him getting laid off.
This is glibs, my charcoal heart doesn’t allow me to post such sappiness here.
???
One time after making one of my orphans work a 23 hour shift with no break or meals, I felt some weird feeling and threw him a dog biscuit. I mean, it was an old stale dog biscuit that my dog snubbed his nose at, I’m not getting soft! And just to prove it, I kicked him!
Objectivists are a real thing? Huh…..
Well. None of this matters as much as T Boone Pickens leaving Ok state coach Gundy $30 bucks in his will to get a “g-d damned haircut”
I was about to post about Eddie Money’s death, but GL beat me to it in the previous thread.
Normally I just kinda go “Aww, that’s too bad,” but Eddie Money is a milestone marker in my life, when I went off to BYU.
Maybe he gets to go back and do it all over now. I think that was my favorite EM song.
The song that really triggers my nostalgia boner is “Take Me Home Tonight.” August 1986. Still know exactly where I was and what I was doing every time I heard it.
Give me some water is my fav.
I’m not a big EM fan, but I really dig Gimme Some Water.
I like that one too.
I’m partial to Peace in Our Time.
“I shot a man on the Mexican border”
Bitter clinger
Used to go to one of my meetings way back when. Nice enough guy.
Aw fuck. My first ‘real’ concert – September 26, 1982 – Eddie opened for April Wine. 15 yo Tundra was in the front row and was pretty goddamn happy.
RIP.
I love April Wine. I Like to Rock, love that song.
One of my favorites
I know Two Tickets was overplayed and that ruined it for many people, but I was always very fond of that song.
I got married at 19 in ’76 and we were always way too broke to go anywhere.
So this song was in my head when I ordered two business class tickets to Singapore for my 30th anniversary using frequent flyer miles accrued on business travel.
It really was two tickets to paradise for a trip that I had owed my wife for a very long time.
That was very poetic.
“I know Two Tickets was overplayed ”
It’s almost a case of ‘Walk this Way’, or ‘Stairway to Heaven’, not quite, but yeah I get it.
Everything about that video is awesome.
Apollonia…I mean…damn.
Also, everything about that story is awesome, kinnath.
So today, it’s 17 years for me and Mr. Mojeaux, folks. Best internet find EVAR.
Well, hopefully Mr. Mo’ has Two Tickets To Paradise and Takes You Home Tonight, IYKWIMAITYD
I forget to whom I am talking to:

*narrowed gaze*
And mazel tov! <3
That’s Swissy’s department. I’m telling mom!!!
We have not tried EVERYTHING I’ve written. Some of it gets a grimace out of him. Like, “No. Just…no.”
That reminds me – why is it not “codde”?
Don’t know. Cod … codpiece
Congrats.
You know what to do.

Good. I thought I was taking crazy pills.
Well, you may not be hallucinating, but you are taking crazy pills.
