Happy Monday everybody. I am in the first day of my new work assignment in upgraded capacity. This basically means I am the only developer on the team, so I have awarded myself a promotion to Lead Architect. Sure, I’ve got nobody to lead for a few days, but that’s just a minor quibble. Also, I’ve been teaching myself a new code framework, and its about as much fun as sex with whiskey dick. The payoff.. is coming… any time now… whoops, nope. Maybe next time. And having left that picture in your minds, here’s some links.
I respect the cut of this Florida Man’s jib. It takes real balls to mail the State a bill for $2.5M. Guess what happened next?
Brutal. But not unfair. Me, personally, I’d give Taggart until the end of this season to figure out how to not blow leads.
As much as I hate the flying rats of American cities, this pigeon has my respect.
In my head, I hear the priest from Heathers saying.. “Esss-kilator”
Here’s a fun and rambling rock song.

At least one person is excited to see me. !
I thought he was yelling at you for wasting the number one comment.
I do tend to waste.
You and Onan.
LOL!
Eight years of Trump’s tax returns subpoenaed by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., report says
go get him, Cy!
All we need is one more SCOTUS appointment.
Honestly, Trump needs to get a hack in the Justice Department willing to play the Democrats’ game. Yes, Vance can subpoena and receive his tax returns. But, if one iota of it is leaked to the press, go after him and his office in jail.
Send the justice integrity division after Vance right now. He knows his subpoena is invalid.
Fight back!!!
The statute of limitations for a misdemeanor (which is what they’re supposedly investigating) in NY is 2 years, and they’re asking for 8 years of tax returns?
Also, the crime that they’re supposedly investigating happened 3 years ago.
A genius Vance is not.
Then the subpoena is easily quashed. Unless some eager-beaver Deep Stater in the IRS has already put them in the mail.
They went after the accounting firm, which I assume wants to keep its clients.

He is a funny stand-up, but pretty new in the business, so it will be interesting to see what his career looks like from this point forward. Hopefully this will inspire an alternative to SNL where funny “problematic” people are allowed to be creative.
C’MON!
??
“The long-running NBC show also says its vetting process “was not up to our standard” prior to the revelation of the comedian’s remarks.”
Heh.
Hell, they could probably call such a show “The Problematics” and get YUGE ratings for it.
“I was always a Mad TV guy anyway.”
He gets in the last jab. Nice.
What’s all of these campaign contributions to the Democrats in Democrat controlled New York for?
I wonder what the penalties are if these confidential, by federal law, documents are leaked?
Because they are going to be. If the IRS produces them. I have to wonder what exactly Vance is investigating, and how these records (some of which likely predate the statute of limitations for whatever he is investigating) are relevant.
He’s looking for the money Russia gave him to be a “Manchurian Candidate”
Didn’t they already find it….Dr. Evil co-signed loans for Trump. Don’t we have those loan papers already?
I thought the courts tossed this witch hunt for tax returns in the shitter? I wonder what these shitweasels will use as their defense if this banana republic nonsense gets turned around on them?
State officials play Pigeon Chess and learn the results.
Sure, Jaan.
CBS News: You were specifically banned by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, from visiting that country. He faces a very tough election in the next few days. If he doesn’t win, are you going to try to go back, and do you stand by your call for a boycott of Israel?
Ilhan Omar: I certainly hope that the people of Israel make a different decision. And my hope is that they recognize that his existence, his policies, his rhetoric really is [sic] contradictory to the peace that we are all hoping that that region receives, and receives soon. Just right now, if you look at the annexation that is taking place, for many of us in Congress, there has been longstanding support for a two-state solution, and this annexation now is going to make sure that that peace process does not happen and we will not get to a two-state solution. I think what is really important is for people to understand that you have to give people the opportunity to seek the kind of justice they want in a peaceful way and I think the opportunity to boycott, divest, sanction is the kind of the pressure that leads to that peaceful process.
She added: “Allauh Akbar! Death to America!”
Why does the US Congress have any say in a foreign country’s affairs?
That’s what foreign aid basically is. And once you start paying Dangeld…
“and we will not get to a two-state solution.”
Agreed. All you had to do was stop strapping explosives to your children, and you couldn’t. That’s your problem, not mine.
I think what is really important is for people to understand that you have to give people the opportunity to seek the kind of justice they want in a peaceful way
I’m unclear on how the Palis haven’t had the opportunity for lo, these many decades.
This kind of captures my thinking. If the Palestinians stopped fighting with the Israelis, they would probably get their own state within a decade. If the Israelis stopped fighting with the Palestinians, they would probably face a progrom.
The Pali’s would try something more like Holocaust 2.0 the “Jihad boogaloo” . The Israeli people would shock them by fighting back despite what the government decrees. My money is on the Israelis.
The Six Day War never happened. It was just Zionist propaganda.
And my hope is that they recognize that his existence… is [sic] contradictory to the peace that we are all hoping that that region receives
Mask slipping? No that there’s much, if any, mask to slip.
Looking forward to the slapdown from the NYT, New Yorker, etc about civility and the dangers of Omar’s violent rhetoric, which is really more of outright pleas.
Hard to read that as anything other than “If you want peace, kill Netanyahu first.”
I certainly hope the people of Minneapolis, Minnesota make a different decision when her seat’s up for vote.
Blah blah blah. We have heard all of these lies before. They have had their two state solution, peace treaties etc over and over. They sabotage it and point fingers at everyone else. Fuck them, and fuck that slimy cunt Ilhan.
It’s “cunte” now.
I live in Omar’s district. Up until a few weeks ago, I resigned myself to the notion that she will be my rep for the rest of her life. Now I’m not so sure. People in Minneapolis are growing both tired of and embarrassed by this Allah Sharpton wannabe.
I like that, Allah Sharpton, Classy!
Is there an equal crime for public officials who retaliate against citizens who expose corruption and incompetence?
And public officials who fabricate legal proceedings against citizens always prosecuted, right?
Thanks, I’m here all week…

They fabricate valid proceedings. Totally different.

Ouch. Yahoo, the forgotten internet search engine of scams and penis pills, has better reporting than the New York Times.
The Lawfare group is not giving up just yet.
Oh noes, that country with the GDP of Italy is spying on us (just like we do to them BYW).
And I’m calling at least partial bullshit on that cellphone PTT (“walkie talkie”) feature. There are many ways to implement that, but it sounds like they were using weak crypto keys, and not changing them out regularly. This happens far more often than you’d like to think. Network reliability over security.
I would think the incompetence and laziness of the FBI, etc, would make it fairly easy for the Russians or Israelis or whomever to get access to our communications, at least for a short period of time.

I just think it’s very important to think of Italy as a top ten economy . . . which Russia is not. Russia keeps demanding recognition, but, as libertarians, we should laugh: the richest country in the world in terms of natural resources doesn’t know that the reason for their situation is tyranny; for centuries, they have actively found ways to keep from being rich.
Sounds like they’re saying that was bullshit.

However, whether you believe the causes of climate change are anthropogenic or natural matters less each year. Over time, the relevance of climate change denial will diminish while the need for mitigation and adaptation intensifies.”

She’s well credentialed though.
Look man, the sky is falling. Get with the program.
The wildfires are more destructive? Adjusted for inflation? Adjusted for people building larger housing units closer to the areas that are prone to wildfires?
Oh, I forgot, she’s closed off all rebuttal with the “despite all the empirical evidence” shield. Scientific my ass.
Hey, hand-waving is a perfectly acceptable scientific argument.
“Since the early 1970s, California’s annual wildfire extent increased fivefold, punctuated by extremely large and destructive wildfires in 2017 and 2018. This trend was mainly due to an eightfold increase in summertime forest‐fire area and was very likely driven by drying of fuels promoted by human‐induced warming. Warming effects were also apparent in the fall by enhancing the odds that fuels are dry when strong fall wind events occur. The ability of dry fuels to promote large fires is nonlinear, which has allowed warming to become increasingly impactful. Human‐caused warming has already significantly enhanced wildfire activity in California, particularly in the forests of the Sierra Nevada and North Coast, and will likely continue to do so in the coming decades.”

very likely driven by drying of fuels promoted by human‐induced warming
Nice assumption of the conclusion you slipped in there.
This trend was mainly due to an eightfold increase in summertime forest‐fire area
I’m puzzled by this. Are they saying that summer forest fires have increased the area burned eight times? Seems odd, since they say the extent of (total?) forest fires has increased five times. If summer is up 8X, and total is up 5X, doesn’t that mean that non-summer fires have reduced pretty significantly? What’s the reason for that?
https://www.registerguard.com/news/20190916/private-firefighters-feel-slow-burn-little-pay-this-fire-season
“However, whether you believe the causes of climate change are anthropogenic or natural matters less each year.”
Huh. The Green Leap Forward says otherwise.
That’s the one sentence that caught my lint-brow.
A quick scan shows she mostly talking about turning off the power to rural areas to prevent fires, not Green Leap Forward stuff.
To the extent she is talking about adapting to a changing climate, she’s right that the cause of the change doesn’t matter, only the type and extent of the change.
Of course, they are also dishonestly misrepresenting the type and extent of the change.
I immediately thought if changes are because of natural occurring cycles then we can quit all the AGW hand wringing.
I know I know, the boxcars are over that way.
Get in line buddy. I got dibs on the front car.
Jokes on you. Load first, unload last.
Fine. You can breath in the wood tinders from the engine. I’ll luxuriate in the last car. I’ll get another five minutes to curse them before they lead me away for a “delousing”.
“… we can quit all the AGW hand wringing.”
How much money and power is there in that?
Surprisingly, despite all the empirical evidence, a contingent of people continue to believe that observed temperature increases are the result not of anthropogenic industrialization but of naturally occurring cycles.
There is no empirical evidence for that claim, only (arguably discredited) computer models.
And the actual observed temperature increases are quite modest. You only get scary temperature increases from the (illegitimately) “corrected” data.
For Californians, the effects of increasingly destructive wildfires and the inconvenient strategies for preventing them are the same irrespective of belief.
Note how she assumes the conclusion that a drought (that is not unprecedented) is due to climate change.
Dude, they predicted catastrophic temperature increases and we got very moderate ones. Can I make the case for anthropogenic warming any clearer for you?
AOC is terrorizing Miami saying if they do nothing they will all die.

Hate to break it to you, robc, but I don’t think congresscritters are building wealth by being frugal and prudent in their spending.
I am sure at least 1 or 2 career pols got rich that way.
But, I know, I was just saying that someone earning $170k wouldn’t be a surprising millionaire.
But they wouldn’t be a “buy a $2MM dollar house on the beach” type millionaire.
But, I know, I was just saying that someone earning $170k wouldn’t be a surprising millionaire.
Fair point. After a good long time earning that, anyone making that kind of income should have over $1mm in assets.
The thing about Congress is, they are all disproportionately wealthy (with the possible exception of some of those who showed up rich). Years ago, I saw an article in the WSJ pointing out that members of Congress average investment returns of over 20% YoY, as against a broad market around 7% YoY. Either they are all financial geniuses, or on the take in some way.
Hint: Members of Congress are exempt from insider trading laws. It is widely speculated that the stock in trade of many industry lobbyists is hot stock tips.
And yet the congresscritters who want to get the money out of politics aren’t going to make congress subject to insider trading laws.
Miami was destroyed in a hurricane last month.
Also scientists just don’t understand why the expensive weather satellite we launched in the 70s is showing so little temperature increase. clearly it’s broken somehow.
I can’t tell you how it grinds my gears that NOAA ignores its own satellite data to pimp ground station data, the inadequacy of which was the reason we launched the damn satellites in the first place.
Satellite remote sensing was one of my specializations in grad school. Ground measurements are shit by comparison when it comes to repeatability and accuracy.

What a crock. The most destructive fire — the Campground Fire — was due to PG&E’s lack of vegetation management. I work for an electric utility. When the economy crashed, we had to cut over a billion dollars from the budget, effectively a cut of 5%. Now we could have just mandated that everyone’s budget be reduced by 5%, but that would be stupid, given that we have nuke plants. So we decided to run a risk assessment register. We broke down every expense from Nuke maintenance to new chairs in a Wisconsin conference room, assigning a number of one, two and three, where one is the most critical and three is the least. Vegetation management came in at a two, because we knew that it could result in huge losses and liabilities. I got to figure PG&E gave Vegetation management a three, which is why the fires started. Funny thing is that when we were doing this, Dick Kelly was our chairman & CEO, the same Dick Kelly who was the Chairman at PG&E when the fires happened.
Same with SCE. They’re wasting so much money on this green bullshit that they don’t have money for maintenance.

“We’re going to take our campaign directly to Republican voters, and I’ll add, in all 50 states, we’re going to campaign in all 50 states,” Walsh said. “We’re going to campaign in South Carolina, Arizona, Nevada, and Kansas, because I believe if we let these Republican voters know that the President of the United States just took away their right to vote, they’ll march on the headquarters of their state parties to get that right to vote back.”
Walsh, who voted for Trump in the 2016 presidential election and is now outspoken against the Trump presidency, called Trump a “would-be dictator.”
“I always want to pinch myself and remind myself that this isn’t Russia. I do not live in Russia. I refuse to live in Russia,” Walsh said. “We can’t just cancel elections in this country. That’s what Donald Trump is doing. He’s literally canceling elections, and it’s very easy to be p***** off at Trump, but we’re used to this with Trump. He is a would-be dictator. He would like this to be Russia.”
Walsh also said on Monday he has “given up on the Republican Party,” calling it “a cult.”
“They no longer stand for ideas. The Republican Party right now is all about washing their leaders’ feet every day. That’s what they do.”
Walsh sounds deranged. Like a crazy never-Trumper. How is it possible that he voted for Trump in 2016?

Soak the rich
Since the start of the year, much of the debate around taxes among Democrats has been over how much and how best to raise taxes on the rich.
Democrats have been interested in increasing taxes on those with high incomes and net worths in order to combat wealth inequality and raise revenue to finance spending priorities.
——-
The white paper that Wyden released on Thursday shows how congressional Democrats are also readying plans to hit the rich.
His plan would overhaul how capital gains are taxed to extend Social Security’s solvency.
Under Wyden’s proposal, capital gains and ordinary income would be taxed at the same rates. Additionally, those who have had more than $1 million in income or $10 million in assets in three consecutive years would be subject to new anti-deferral rules, such as being required to pay taxes annually on investment gains from tradable assets and being required to pay a lookback charge on nontradable assets when those investments are sold or transferred.
Under current law, people don’t have to pay capital gains taxes until they sell their investments.
Pay capital gains on your paper profits? Nobody could object to that.
Nobody but wreckers and Kulaks.
Under current law, people don’t have to pay capital gains taxes until they sell their investments.
JFC. I’m not sure I could come up with a better way to collapse the credit markets than taxing unrealized gains.
Exactly. But the funny thing is they would STILL print shitloads of money and STILL give it to the “rich” first.
We’ll give you free stuff and the rich will pay for it.
DNC slogan.
Under current law, people don’t have to pay capital gains taxes until they
sell their investmentsactually realize a profit.Pay capital gains on your paper profits?
Will they let people write off paper losses, too?
Of course not.
That would defeat the purpose of penalizing owning property.
In a nutshell, the economy is going great guns. We cant have that. Wyden plans on shoveling sand in the gears.
“so I have awarded myself a promotion to Lead Architect”
He WANTS to be an architect!
+1 extension at the Guggenheim
I myself am a “lead architect”. It’s a pretty glamorous life. Lots of babes, booze, and parties. Naturally.
Architecting heavy metals isn’t something I’d think we’d need to do.
It’s because of the recent plethora of uranium architects that we suddenly need all these lead architects. A high tech game of rock, paper, scissors.
Wait long enough and Uranium Architects decay into Lead architects on their own.
That’s basically what I do, but don’t tell my boss.
Architecting
And I wouldn’t think a published author would verb a noun, either.
‘Architect’ is a verb on it’s own dating back to at least the 1850s, ‘architecting’ is just a tense of that verb.
I’d think a lawyer would do some research before making accusations.
Made you look!
I actually checked before I posted that, and was surprised that it is a verb, in the sense of “what architects do“, with a broad sub-definition of architect. Couldn’t resist yanking your chain.
True story: Bro Dean is an actual licensed architect, and they never use it to describe their work.
Also, I made no accusations. I merely described my subjective mental state of surprise.
Huh. For me it’s just like being “Senior Developer” only busier.
Just wait. The babes will start throwing themselves at you any minute.
aren’t architects too dumb to be engineers?
Hey, engineers work for architects, so . . .
Yeah, probably.
I once knew a smart architect, she was studying to be an engineer. True story.
Let me tell you about the time the engineers told FLW that he couldn’t build it that way.

The video includes Leo Lardie, a transgender activist born female but who now identifies as male, who tells the children about her transition — including some talk about her own genitalia. She also tells the children that the only way to happiness for her was to be “true about who I was, and let other people in on this.”
Elsewhere in the series, called “The Big Talk,” a teacher tells children that they can be jailed if they are found to be “disrespecting or being hateful to people because of a difference that person perceives.”
What a cunte.
Cuntée, shitlord.
Oh shit, I got it reversed. I’m the shitlord. In my defense, I was confused by the dead-pronouning going on there.
Cuntée Kinte?
Now about social tolerance.
Isn’t that heart-warming.
Fucking crossfitters.
Over 100? Ok, try naming 10.
Male
Female
/10 in Base 2
That’s not 10 in base two 1010 is 10 in base 2
/Pedant
I’m not talking about that value. I’m reading the number 10. It’s clearly in base 2.
If it was in base two then you should have clarified by writing 0b10
Hey guys, just letting you know that pedantic nerd isn’t one of the genders.
‘I don’t really want to be anything in particular, I’m just going to be me.’
why can’t they just leave it at that and get f’g life
Exhibit 1: “Europe is freer that the US” so we need to conform to their criteria.
Nelson, Churchill, and hosts of other Brits are spinning in their graves fast enough I can feel the breeze here in NJ.
It’s like watching youth indoctrination in Communist or Nazi countries.
BBC engaging in indoctrination? You don’t say!
It is not ‘like’ that at all.
Yes, true.
So, the only way she could be happy is by making absolutely everything, every conversation and everyones attention focused on her.
How incredibly interesting.
ZZZZZzzzzz
He’s just an ordinary average guy.
#FreeTitania
Like Nelson Mandela, I have been silenced for speaking truth to power.
It’s truly a travesty that such a fine individual’s voice has been silenced in this dark era. #FreeTitania
Necklacing?
Something tells me Wyden isn’t hoping to tax ordinary earned income at the capital gains rate.
But that would cut revenues to the government. When the government takes that money then we decide as a group what to spend that money on and that make all the difference between good spending and bad spending.
Amazing how Wyden ended up quite well off, even before marrying his millionaire wife. Shitbird needs to retire back to his home in NY, except whoever replaces him will be an even bigger idiot.
How do you investigate decades old accusations based on hearsay?
Harris said, “Someone should investigate that. The fact that something has not been proved, it doesn’t mean it didn’t occur. Right?”
She added, “If you don’t investigate it— if it hasn’t been investigated, then there has not been a full airing of the issue. My point from the beginning about all of these allegations against Brett Kavanaugh is that there has not been a robust a meaningful investigation. There has not been an investigation with the level of attention that would normally occur around these kinds of allegations especially related to the subject at hand which is the appropriateness of this individual serving on the highest court of our land for a lifetime appointment.”
He is a Trump appointee so assume he is guilty?
Kamala Harris is used to punishing people without evidence, so this is nothing new.
In fact, she seems to prefer it that way.
OK, fine. I’m here to (tearfully) announce that Kamala Harris once shoved her dick in my face.
When did you hold office in California?
#believeallscientists
I wasn’t there when it happened, but I could have sworn that I heard from a friend that she may have indeed shoved her dick into your face.
I think she should go ahead and investigate. Take all the time she needs.
How do you investigate decades old accusations
on hearsaythat lack an underlying crime, certainly a federal one?“Harris said, “Someone should investigate that. The fact that something has not been proved, it doesn’t mean it didn’t occur. Right?”
Show me the man, and I’ll find you the crime.
Hey, technically she’s correct.
“The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, or vice versa.” -Donald Rumsfeld
Lol
Someone should investigate that. The fact that something has not been proved, it doesn’t mean it didn’t occur. Right?
“Now, about these rumors that your start in politics was a quid pro quo from Willie Brown for sexual favors . . . “
Hope this turns into a twitwar. lol.

Especially if it catapults her campaign.
Agreed…I get that she’s got some shitffucked policy ideas, but the antiwar stuff alone makes her very tempting.
That being said, Trump said he was antitwar at one point. *shrug*
Aren’t all Presidents Saudi Arabia’s bitch for some strange reason?
Yes.
Not strange at all. When Nixon took us off the gold standard, he cut a deal with the Saudi royal family that they would only accept American dollars for oil, and the whole world now trades oil based on the US dollar. If that were to end, we would be done.
https://www.aier.org/article/friends-freedom-do-not-despair
The case for…optimism? Also I think that “liberal instructions” have been consistently terrible. See public schools, the Guardian, Democratic party, etc
How exactly is this “things are consistently evolving and changing yet the same basic ideas will remain essentially unchanged” notion supposed to work? It never really made sense to me.
What if this new idea and new imagined way of living involves collectivism, mass censorship and economic regimentation?
Then it is called progressive.
“Liberal institutions” dammit. I mean the fact that Herbert Spencer’s protégé was Beatrice Webb and that if the free-trade liberals in America and the UK that made WWI so much worse says it all really.
The only line I remember from Heathers was “I love my dead gay son”.
I thought of you last month, in the flight path at SFO, big beautiful lumbering Giants, directly overhead, at night.
Awww dude! SFO is great for spotting – I think the A340 still goes in there (Swiss and/or Virgin)
I grew up in ONTs flight path, watching Jumbo’s crab into the Santa Ana winds was amazing
Oooh! That would be cool – I love a little crosswind action.
…..chainsaw
I remember wayy too many.
Now I know why SNL sucks cocks. Their viewership are now mostly sanctimonious dips hits with no sense of humour.
https://twitter.com/BTuckertime/status/1172205132567764993
DONKEY cocks. FFS.
But ‘dip hits’ is fine ?
People suck
Humor is dead. It got replaced by lesbian rants about being offended by Trump.
This post was inspired by Miss Kristen’s above post: I recently re-watched 1990’s “Pump Up The Volume,” with Christian Slater, and while I loved the movie as a wee lad (I was awesome), I didn’t feel it holds up, nor should it. But some of the quotes are relevant!
The kids man, the teen kids should have to watch that movie, man!
That movie terrified me as a child
You want to turn them into Greta Thunberg?
She’s way too mainstream! Mark Hunter was a rebel, man.
Even in our youth, we Gen Xers knew what we were about
The real question is how did we know that the next generation was going to suck so bad that it wasn’t worth our effort to try?
Because we’re the real Greatest Generation.
But who the fuck cares? I’m-a go fire up the bong.
We did?
We do?
Shit, that’s a relief!
“You see there’s nothing to do anymore. Everything decent’s been done. All the great themes in life have been used up, turned into theme parks. So I don’t really find it exactly cheerful to be living in the middle of a totally exhausted decade where there’s nothing to look forward to and no one to look up to.”
“In real life I could be that anonymous nerd sitting across from you in chem lab, staring at you so hard. Then when you turn around he tries to smile, but the smile just comes out all wrong. You just think, How pathetic. Then he just looks away, and never looks back at you again.”
“You see there’s nothing to do anymore. Everything decent’s been done. All the great themes in life have been used up”
this shows how dumb kids are. no smart phones back then. no 65 inch TVs for $500. no kiosks at restaurants. no working from home., etc and so forth
Funny you should say that. I’ve been wanting a re-watch of that for some time, with the XX TD to see if it could cheer her up a little. (+1 pearls exploding the microwave.) Are you saying I should not give in to my nostalgia boner?
Watch “Lion in Winter” with XX. Let her see Katherine Hepburn and Peter O’Toole show some real snarking.
I was thinking more of the aspect of “high school is rock bottom and it gets better from here” part.
Maybe she just needs a rewatch of Real Genius.
Pretty in Pink? Say Anything?
We’ve gone through Breakfast Club and War Games and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off thus far (in addition to Real Genius). Labyrinth was, of course, a hit, but not what she needs at the moment.
Watching these with her now, I’m shocked that the ratings standards must have been much looser then. She took War Games to school the last 2 days of class and everybody was gasping over the characters saying “shit” in a PG-whatever movie.
I’ll get those two and dig up some more high-school-is-shit 80s movies.
War Games is one of my all-time faves. I keep going back to it.
I loved the shit outta Labyrinth. My Ma and I used to reference the Bog of Eternal Stench frequently. Or we would just yell out, if someone farted, “smmmmmellllll baaaaaad”
War Games is far more watchable than Pump Up the Volume, but then again it’s all perspective.
Footloose (still holds up!), The Goonies and The Monster Squad, The Lost Boys, Red Dawn, those all hold up as well, but also they are…what they are.
I watched Pretty in Pink recently, and the wardrobe really holds up! I would wear most of her outfits today.
Footloose – good choice CJ
So funny story (to me anyway).
I used to hang out on this romance-reader blog of a woman who was (probably) a spousal hire at a podunk university, who taught feminist and women’s studies. She a) converted to Judaism to marry her husband and b) had two boys right away. Very “feminist” of her, but I respect her right to do what she chooses.
She’s only a little younger than I am, and she had never seen Labyrinth. I don’t know how you escape the 80s not having fallen in lust with Jareth the Goblin King, but whatever. So she queued it up for her sons.
She wrote a huge post on what a lightweight sausagefest it was and other weird interpretations. Usually she got a whole lot of comments on her posts, but this one…nobody commented anything substantial and there were few comments.
Finally, I just couldn’t stand it and said something like Labyrinth is probably the most perfect coming-of-age story for a girl on the edge of womanhood ever written/filmed, and a man did it. She is discovering her sexuality. She is grieving her mother’s abandonment while also romanticizing it. She is lost in a fantasy world because she doesn’t know who she really is. She is angry that her father married again, and she’s not going to like her stepmother no matter how nice she is. So here comes this fantasy guy who is basically offering to give her everything she wants and worship her if she obeys him and stays in his world , but she chooses to fight in spite of the fact that she’s tempted by his blatant sexuality. It’s not a sausagefest. It’s a feminist treatise on the journey from girlhood to womanhood and burgeoning sexuality.
THEN the comments started pouring in, basically saying, “What Mojeaux said.”
This happened a good 10 years ago. I was then and am still am highly amused that a professor of feminist and women’s studies missed the entire point of that movie.
THat is some sick burnage, right there!
I also saw it as a story of a young woman discovering her individuality, and coming to realize the power to be found in being your own person.
I don’t suppose she’s ready for Heathers?
That too.
There is SO. MUCH. SYMBOLISM. in that movie, you could spend a lifetime rewatching it and you’d get something new out of each time. I could write a doctoral dissertation on it.
The Escher stairs.
The picture stuck to Sarah’s mirror of her mother in local theater (wherein the leading man was David Bowie).
The stuffed animals.
And most of all “taking things for granted,” which was the most obvious theme of the whole movie.
Likely not.
I thought high school was thankfully over 30 years ago. but now I’m working in an open space that’s somewhere between a hair salon and a high school cafeteria. non stop yapping, whispering in the corners, cliques, the who 9 yards. I. am. in. Hell.
DEAR AMY:

Christ, what an asshole.
Christ, what a cunte.
My money my choice, but tacky, no class at all!

Wonder what the ages of the people in question are, or where they are from. IME, people in specific age groups and people from specific regions are weird about stuff like this.
Don’t make us say it. We know who (((they))) are.
I was thinking specifically of Midwestern Boomers and urban millennials.
Mark me down for “could not care less if they do that”.
Classy people don’t dine in restaurants that issue their own gift cards.
Nonetheless, it’s not your business how other people pay their share of the bill. What’s next? Should I pay for your coffee if I happen to have a positive Starbucks gift card balance?
What do you think?
I don’t care if they pay with cash or cash equivalents like gift cards. I think you’re kind of a prick for getting all worked up about it.
Quite frankly my wife and I don’t need a gift card contribution when we dine out
No, I don’t think you’re a prick. I know you’re a prick.
Amy got it right.
Everyone should pay for their own meal in whatever way they wish. I don’t see the reason for the kerfuffle.
I don’t think they’re real friends.
Real friends will bail you out of jail at 3 am. Not worry about gift cards.
Oh crap! Pigeon poops on Chicago lawmaker … while he discusses the city’s pigeon poop problem
Play the lottery, bro!
Missed the links, eh?

I would like to point out the Guardian was founded as a mouthpiece of classical liberal merchants one of whom was Beatrice Webb’s grandfather.
“The market, it claims, sorts us into a natural hierarchy of winners and losers. Any attempt by politics to intervene disrupts the discovery of this natural order.”
Well when you put it like that…
People like this have a hard time grasping dynamics. To them there is a natural hierarchy, and daddy government needs to come in and save us from it. It’s not that fortunes and consumer preferences can change. People can’t change their situations.
Let alone the argument is more straw than man.
Tensions rise as striking General Motors workers try to block salaried staff from entering Flint plant – just hours after 49,000 walk off the job over failed contract negotiations for better pay and more jobs
Okay.
lol you lost me, bro.
They work out of love for the product, that’s why they want more pay.
For just 64 dollars an hour, you too can help a starving auto worker.

Speaking of humor I would like to remind you that back in the day blackface was regarded as the most inoffensive and mainstream comedy you could do but now it is beyond the pale. These days 1950s-1980s family sitcoms are likely to be derided as the most unwoke offensive stuff ever.
“blackface was regarded as the most inoffensive and mainstream comedy you could do”
Nothing was less offensive than blackface?
Well Al Jolson, Judy Garland, Bugs Bunny and Fred Astaire did it without much complaint.
I never realized Bob Newhart and Rich Little were so offensive.
Until the 1950s or so it was regarded as pretty old-fashioned and dated. Sorta like how 1950s sitcoms were regarded as lame and safe though these days Leave it to Beaver is probably transgressive comedy for its depiction of toxic privileged cishet white men.
Okay.
I’m gonna say bullshit. It was always ment to denigrate.
Yep the comedy was in the offense… as it should be, just ask Winston’s Mom.
The point is white society of the time didn’t find it offensive. The moralists and censors didn’t go after blackface. Al Jolson wasn’t going to get in trouble then for blackface but if he made some ribald sex joke he would be in real trouble
What kind of humor isn’t meant to denigrate? Tranny jokes used to be okay but are not. What society views as acceptable comedy changes all the time and today is no different than in the past despite the supposed “Social tolerance” of today.
Lenny Bruce was being arrested in the 1950s but not minstrel show performers.
There was also a time when drunk driving was considered to be comedy gold…
Heard this in the grocery store yesterday and it’s been earworming in my brain since then.
Enjoy!

This will clean you up.
Before this one, I had Tears for Fears’ Head Over Heels in my head for a week, and it was pleasant. Love that song!
Let this one ramble about in there for awhile.
Nah…..this is one of the best. Fight me.

Fight you?
No, that’s a sublime choice. Well done.
Makes me think of this for some reason-

Can you believe Jim Kerr used to bang Chrissie Hynde ?
No, I can’t.
Good song, though.
Pretty sure she was banging him, NTTAWWT. Love the music but I’m not letting her or Joan, or Deborah, or Tina, or Lucinda anywhere near my junk, those are some scary bitches.
You forgot Liz
No love for Lita Ford ?
You said your kid plays bass….that song has a solid bass backing.
So I had you in mind. After the fact, but I still thought about you.
Aw, thanks Tres!

Nope. I saw what it was, and did not click

Here’s mine Criminal
I LOVE that song!
and Stupid Girl
I have been on a Garbage kick lately myself.
When Garbage hit the scene, my kids were teens. We were at family gathering, and I had my CDs with my. My teenage niece said “You like Garbage?” with a puzzled look on her face. I said yes. It was a great blend of 60s melodies crossed with GenX anxieties. All I got back was a blank look. OK then.
Stream of consciousness rambling ahead…
I’m not quite sure what mine listen to or how they get it. They certainly are not interested in the almost 10k songs on the family server. A while back my kid asked me if I’d heard of Muse, and I’m like, well, yeah, who hasn’t? She was surprised.
We always had music in our house when I was growing up. My mom played the piano (so did I, but what do you call it when you’re good at something you hate doing?).
My dad had taken a humanities music class in college so listening to classical music made him feel upper class, especially if it was off track a little, like Grofé and Copland.
My mom likes the classical and romance periods, particularly Chopin and DeBussy. I like baroque. And Orff. I really love Orff.
My parents were in one of those Columbia House record clubs, so we had aaaaallllllll sorts of stuff from baroque to show tunes to Barbra Streisand and Dusty Springfield.
I was by turns into rock or country or pop, depending on my mood, so I had a good cross-section. My dad liked old country so he’d play that on the radio in the car. Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble…
The only thing was, jazz was not permitted in the house. My dad thought it was pretentious and anybody who said they liked it was lying. Didn’t get the jazz station on the radio very well anyway, but what I could get I liked.
Music was always going, especially on Sunday mornings. My first album was Loverboy Get Lucky. I’m old enough now to admit that without too much shame.
Then there were all those variety shows all over the place. Donny & Marie. Yeah, I did that. Soul Train when dad was out of the house. Solid Gold, sure. Hee Haw. Heh.
So now my music library is all over the freaking place. Am I gonna get my kids to listen to Miles Davis? Naw. Am I gonna get them to listen to anything I like? If they stumbled over it on the family server and they liked it, I’d be shocked.
They and all their peers seem to have been born knowing Pink Floyd and Rush and Led Zeppelin because EVERYBODY’S kids are forced to listen to it from the womb.
We had one of those Columbia House compilations for Christmas time. We played it so much I could probably recite the playlist from memory. Anyway, last Christmas I went on a quest to gather as much of it as I could, and put it on a playlist IN ORDER and I swear it’s like the best musical thing that ever happened to me ever.
I’m limited to two links before I go to spam.
AAAAALLLLL of that was only to say that I regret not having exposed my kids to so much music when they were little, such a gamut, an embarrassment of riches. I grew up poor. But we had music and books.
have a Silly Girl.Probably a dead thread, but thumbs up to that choice.
Here, have a Silly Girl!
I am close to pulling the plug on online dating. Lot of work for little reward
Weeding through that dumpster fire can be exhausting.
I think that’s everyone’s experience. Unfortunately, I can’t think of a good alternative.
it’s great for decent single guys of whom there were six of us
Dating with a memory of the Gemini program is tough for anybody. I haven’t tried online because. But in person is tough as well.
you take a picture of yourself in a sympathetic setting (macho five day beard, relaxed and grinning in field gear with the Gallinas Mountains in the background)
you up-play your social skills in your workset (project manager, never engineer or programmer . . . maybe sales engineer maybe)
you list the last five books you’ve read (make sure one’s lighthearted and trendy about bicycles or India Australian Shepherds)
you list your favorite charity or social project (suburban river trails conservation league)
you don’t mention poker, whiskey, cigars, golf, or engineering or C+++?$++ under any circumstances
on dates you ask about favorite movies or sitcoms: focus on chances to share laughs with her . . . never where she’s from or who her people are
mop up chicks
repeat as necessary
Cockrings?
Curious why not engineers? True most of us are aspires, but some of us are awesome manly men. For example, I built a dam that provided clean water to a billion starving Bolivians.
Can verify this would catch my eye (depending on what the books are).
Sometimes dudes’ (heterosexual) online dating profiles read like they’re trying to market themselves to other men. Including the penchant for mean-mugging in pictures. Women don’t find that very….welcoming.
Smile, look friendly, tell me your hobbies. Don’t tell me you’re old school.
What is mean-mugging?
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mean%20mugging
This comes across to me as totally fake. It’s what every guy does. Maybe my bullshit detector is too sensitive.

Work in a hospital as the designated pipe-hitting bastard. “This place is full of nice people; they didn’t hire me because they needed another one.”
Etc.

So gangsta.
Good thought. Should include the Dean Beasts. *checks pictures* Or not.

I think this would be a good RC Dean profile picture.
I can keep doing this and likely continue to be alone, or I can stop and likely continue to be alone. Online gives a slightly better chance, but, based on what I’ve seen, only slightly better of meeting someone. Hmm
Do you have pretty strict age, height, etc settings, or are you searching through a bigger field?
Age is pretty wide, no height restrictions.
If you move forward maybe tightening them up to someone you could really desire would help. But I also have fairly loose restrictions so I get it.
I also have fairly loose restrictions
Imagine my surprise.
Any width restrictions?
You’re apparently pulling the wrong plug…Hiyooo!
Even I refrained from making that joke. For shame, sir.
For shame.
*attempts to channel Swiss and narrows gaze*
I did the whole online dating after having some bad luck with women. The women were good looking and seemed okay but were obviously affected with the SWJ bug and 20 something Ed didn’t give two fucks about saying how dumb their viewpoints were. I was going to unplug but decided to on a date with this cute librarian. I married that cute librarian 7 years later.
That’s adorable.
She’s super cool. It’s odd because she’s a Lefty and obviously I’m a libertarian but she never once condemned me because of my views.
That’s because very few people actually care about politics.
This is a day where I find myself sympathizing with the angry, bitter guys. I’m not cleaning your apartment or doing your laundry, or helping with your electric bill.
How about a sammich?
The odds are good, but the goods are odd, I take it.
Sorry to hear that, Tulip.
I have dated very little in my whole life (probably no more than six different chicks). I flailed around a little after the First Wife smartened up and left me, but shortly met Mrs. Dean, basically at work (she worked in the same building for an affiliate).
We were in Madison, WI. I thought I’d try my luck, so I got a couple tickets to a Badger game and went to her office:
R C: So, I’ve got a couple of tickets to the Badger game this weekend.
Future Mrs. D: What do you want for them?
R C: *slinks off in defeat*
But it worked out (for me, at least; I’m afraid to ask her) in the long run.
My brother was divorced more than ten years ago and, after a string of trainwrecks, decided to just say fuck it to dating, online and otherwise, and focus on his boys and his job.
Sure enough, he recently met a nice chick, his age, divorced, etc. out walking his dog. They walked together for a few blocks one day and he said she was really nice, so they decided to walk again. Turns out she’s his neighbor. Also turns out his best friend knows her very well and had even tried to set them up many years ago, when neither of them were ready.
Life is funny. You are a cool chick. Good things will happen for you.
My brother was also divorced and later met a lovely girl on Match.com. The funny thing is she’s so embarrassed by this she tells everyone they met in a bar.
“Gawd, I don’t want people thinking I was desperate, . . . “
Because going to bats surfing for cock is so much more dignified.
Happily met my wife online, match or whatever was free at the time.
I went ahead and bought fricken planes tickets to the UK with 100% ulterior motives. Life is funny & weird. Dating is funny & weird.
True, There’s a reason arranged marriages were so common throughout human history.
Because chaturbate.com didn’t exist then?
Good to see you around KK! I came across some aviation related videos and now I can’t remember what they were.
Dang!
I watch Air safety institute,
And Alex ibay aircrash vids, Im a sick fuck
I watch VASAviation – most of the time the emergencies turn out OK, but there are a few bad ones in there (like the stolen plane from the Seattle area – that was hard to listen to)
I met my wife dancing. I still think it’s the best way to meet women.
Heh – I met my girlfriend swing dancing. It makes for a nice story. And yes, dancing is an excellent way to meet people. There are a fair number of odd or awkward folks, but no more than at any other social gathering.
One of the dudes at the gym dances every weekend. It’s where he met his girlfriend and most of his social network.
You guys may be on to something…
Lots of nice women like to dance, definitely a few creepers though.
I refuse to believe it’s that bleak out there.
It’s not. After all, Tulip is out there.
Suck-up
I learned it from Homer.
Ocasek, Money…the rule of three works with death, so who is next? My guess:
Richard Marx
Elton
Nah, with that crowd, were talking Lou Gramm, Peter Wolf, or Steve Perry.
Pete’s the oldest so I’ll go with Steve.
Well then Steven Tyler is the answer
Still to ‘A list’ for this crowd.
Who?
Axl Rose
Lou Reed
C’mon, play the game.,..
Madonna.
Debbie Harry, 72
Now that’s just wishful thinking!
Peter Frampton
(don’t read his twitter feed)
Not fair his been very open about his health issues.
I would have guessed Helen Reddy or Olivia Newton-John.
Oh. I forgot about Meatloaf, he’s right in that wheelhouse, 71 or so, I hereby change my prediction to The Loaf.
Jagger.
We’re talking B or C level artists here, That’s why Yusef can’t pick Elton.
Jagger is a C level artist.
After Some Girls, anyway.
Fight me!
I agree….
C’mon, Tattoo You was a nice B-minus comeback album! OK, fine I didn’t get to see them in concert until then.
Ann Wilson, the large one
You shut up!
/Favorite singer to learn from
Nah. Just got his ticker fixed. He’s good until the Old Ones return.
He’ll probably live as long as RBG.
Cool! I already lost two of my four idol/ vocal mentors, makes feel old
Bowie
Freddy
Elton
Jagger
In no order
I’d vote Keef, but consensus is he’s already dead. Wasn’t Jagger a bit of a health nut…despite the drugs?
Sure, but if he tips I look like a fucking genius!
He quit in the 70s and still runs faster than me,
Little Richard
Liberace?
He’s been dead for a long time I think.
I’ll go with Rod Stewart. He’s been battling cancer for a year.
You can’t pick sick/dying people*. Jesus have you guy’s never death pooled before?
* I mean you can but they get you squat as far as points go.
Okay, The Hyperbole. ‘Cause I’m going to reach through the internet and cut a bitch.
You can’t get points for people you personally kill. This was covered in the movie for god’s sake.
Fuck Trump, the FDA, CDC, vaping is fine, it’s not even big tobacco, they own the big vape brands…..

Nice summary of the situation. I hope Trump’s handlers are paying attention.
I hope so, it’s not perfect but e cigs work, and other than power there is no reason to not promote them, Slavers all!
Wanting to ban them is proof-positive that these people don’t give a flying fuck about actual “public health”. Trump has already tweeted that e-cigs help people quit smoking; why he would back-pedal on that is a mystery to me.
And yes, I know that the current target is “kid flavors” but that was always a bullshit stop on the way to the full ban that the nannies really want.
This is still so nice.
Since this is apparently a nostalgia thread.
I do not know this person/ band, should I?
/ Old man….
Only formed in 1989? Damn Kids!
I would. She is wonderful and there are times where it just hits the right notes.
Start here.
Interested in what you think.
Ohhhhhhh her!
Very cool tunes and almost a female dylanesque voice, in a phrasing way, not nasal boy, Didn’t know her name, oops
That is her one great song. She has created some fantastic music (and some great love making music). But, she is…strange?…that isn’t the right word, but I don’t think she ever toured. If she did she would have been pretty popular.
Hope Sandoval
I really like her.
I prefer Miguel Sandoval…
Dread Zeppelin?

Yeah, that’s on one of my playlist. Haven’t played it for awhile though, thanks!
Yes, nostalgia.
A hundred years ago, my wife came home after work as an RT. She was called to a difficult delivery. The baby was fine and the nurses asked what her name would be. Mazzy was the girl’s response. The wife asked me, “What kind of stupid name is that?”
The next day, I told a fellow worker and he told me his wife liked Mazzy. We never heard of her. I told my wife, and then pieced together a video from a newsgroup (remember those?). All she said was, “Depressing.”
Two Tickets to Paradise is an all-time song. I’ve listened on repeat for the past 6 hours and I believe it is.

Hey, Shane, I’m so sorry. I can’t even imagine how you must feel. The work it takes to get that show and to have it snatched away by some guy who does “Spoken Bird” poetry. Unacceptable. Please DM me, pal, when you have a moment. I’m so sorry.
Norm is the best, and anyone who disagrees is gayer than ISIS.
Love Norm
Who decided to give the Jets and the Browns a primetime MNF game?
50th anniversary of the first MNF game, which was those two teams.
