Who was calling plays for the Browns last night? I mean, seriously WTF? I’m no Browns fan, by the way. The Rams defense is solid, fwiw. Elsewhere in the league, Buffalo stuck around long enough to let the Bungles do what they do. The Steelers can put a fork in this season. (And those two play each other next week!) Dallas cruised, Green Bay added to Denver’s misery. Indy beat Atlanta. KC beat the Ravens in a preview of a playoff game. Minnesota thumped Oakland. New England did what they do. New Orleans got a gutsy win. And the Giants, Texans, Lions and Panthers all won.
Across the pond, Liverpool beat Chelsea to remain perfect on the season and maintain a 5 point lead. ManUre are in a freefall. And Leicester City are for real. And on Saturday, TTUN were embarrassed on national TV. And it was beautiful.
Kublai Khan was born on this day. That’s pretty solid. Oh, so were: suffragist Victoria Woodhull, “Typhoid Mary” Mary Mallon, actor Mickey Rooney, jazz legend John Coltrane, soul legend Ray Charles, rock musician Bruce Springsteen, and actor Jason Alexander.
OK, now we get to…the links!
To Protect And Serve…and handcuff six year olds when they act up in school.
Antonio Brown says he’s done with the NFL. After that tweet storm yesterday, I’d be willing to bet every owner agrees with him.
That’s certainly one way to spin this story. Now go ahead and play the clip where the then-VP describes his extortion in exhaustive detail. Oh boy, this one is starting to look more and more like the Trump team set a trap and the media and Team Blue fell right into it. And I bet Rudy Giuliani won’t be getting invited to any more tv shows on the networks in the near future.
In the latest installment of “no good deed goes unpunished”, we visit Connecticut.
The trial of an ex-Dallas cop who shot her neighbor dead begins today. The prosecution seems pretty excited about prosecuting this one, so expect her to go down.
And President Trump and Indian PM Modi did something nobody else in Houston seems able to do: fill a football stadium. (Insert “patrons of convenience stores and hotels across the area were unable to complete their transactions for the whole day” joke here.)
This is what the world needs more of.
Now go enjoy the day, friends!
To Protect And Serve…and handcuff six year olds when they act up in school. -back in the day that’s a paddlin no arrest needed
Summary execution now. The kids lucky the cop didn’t pop him one in the forehead.
Whenever I came home and told my parents I got in trouble with a teacher or they were called in for my behavior, I was immediately assumed guilty (correctly too). We get stupid shit like this today because woke asshat parents would rather believe their “little angel” can’t do wrong and they actually object to any real kind discipline (leading to stupid shit like cops having to come in). And, with the new American dream being about making quick cash of of victimhood, suing schools, especially the ones that have gone extra woke, is also a great way to make bank.
100% wrong. We get this because school administrators realized they can offload one of their most unpleasant tasks – maintaining school discipline – onto the Orwellian named “school resource officers”. LEO, being LEO and not educators, view undesired behavior as a problem with a carcareal solution. Then the admin can shrug and say “what do you want, I didn’t do it?”
Antonio Brown says he’s done with the NFL. After that tweet storm yesterday, I’d be willing to bet every owner agrees with him. – can he try baseball or something? If Jordan could why not.
Also today I learned that Daniel Jones has the fewest career loses as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Seems impressive
You can’t just act like the rest of the comments don’t exist.
huh?
Early morning Joke that played well in my head.
no comment
Eh, probably because he played football and track.

“Antonio Brown says he’s done with the NFL. After that tweet storm yesterday, I’d be willing to bet every owner agrees with him”
Funny I thought it was the NFL that was done with him…
The Patriots were but I bet there was half a dozen teams ready to talk to him before his meltdown.
The Patriots should still pay him though.
He can play catch on Sunday with Kaepernick now.
How does he not have a handler who holds his phone and filters his internet content? Seriously? All allegations against him are civil matters – the worst that could possibly happen is he loses some money. He got himself kicked out of the league for saying stupid shit.
I like to imagine what Jack Lambert, Lyle Alzado, and Jack Tatum would have tweeted in the 70’s.
Heck, if the president of the U.S. doesn’t have a filter handler, why should Brown?
CTE is a hell of a drug. Ask Ernie Holmes.
99.9% chance he gets signed the moment the league says they’re not suspending him.
Someone will be stupid and desperate, for sure. And they’ll regret it PDQ – Brown isn’t just a headcase, he’s 32.
History says the Redskins will sign him before the League clears him. They’ll say that they did a thorough investigation and determined that he will get off without a suspension. They won’t do the first, but might luck out and have the second prove true anyway. Desperation is a hell of a drug to go with CTE.
“Oh boy, this one is starting to look more and more like the Trump team set a trap and the media and Team Blue fell right into it. ”
That pushes the limits of belief. I find it hard to think any one in politics is that clever.
I believe Dems & the MSM are that dumb.
Overconfident in their media apparatus.
Fling shit at the walls and hope something sticks has been their MO since the orange man managed to win the election they thought they had rigged for crooked Hilary…
As I’ve said numerous times before, they had everything; the media, the schools, entertainment, open borders. It was working, all they had to do was be patient and keep doing what they were doing. 100 years of strategy coming to fruition.
Then Trump came and drove them around the bend. They started to play angry and anyone who’s played competitive sports knows, once you get into your opponent’s head and they start playing angry, they’re toast.
I played back-catcher in my teens and it was pretty easy to do. I wasn’t immune to it either, being a hormonal, hot-headed bundle of hostility for about ten years of my life.
Please tell me that you played for the Bears.
If so how many awkward moments happened when you introduced yourself? “I’m the Bear back-catcher and I’m here to check in” Your mom: “I’m hear to cheer on my son, the Bear back-catcher”
I see what you did there… At least he didn’t claim he went from being a tight end to a wide receiver…
I only played D in football *snickers*
You play “baseball”? Were you a pitcher or a catcher? BAZINGA!
“I played back-catcher in my teens…”
I’m sorry for your knees.
So am I, now. It sounds like firecrackers every time I stand up and that’s not the “Grandpa Farts”, either.
The party that pushed this wants to harm both Biden and Trump.
That’s reasonable, and I agree.
They see the writing on the wall. Joe isn’t capable.
And it’s much better optics if he can be taken down “by Trump” rather than the DNC.
S’truth.
Don’t you mean the tribe that pushed this?
The tribe? I had in mind a faction of the deep state.
I was making a Warren joke.
I think this is a Warren campaign hit job. It is perfect for her.
For those who didn’t see it, The Hill had more detail.
Apparently Ukraine tried to tell the Obama administration about Biden’s activities but were blocked from coming to the US. So they hired a former US attorney to deliver the information to the DOJ. Who promptly ignored it.
So they were worried that the relationship with the US was damaged.
So then the State Department asks Giuliani to meet with the Ukrainian dude. Giuliani kept State in the loop the whole time.
I’ve yet to see anyone in the regular media report any of that.
NBC this morning reported it as a scandal – with zero mention of Biden’s interference on behalf of his son. Which was really odd, because they played the clip of Biden responding to questions about his reported threats to the Ukraine if they didn’t fire the prosecutor who was looking in to his son – which was an angry “you need to be focusing on Trump!”
And on Saturday, TTUN were embarrassed on national TV – I always have to google that damn initialism
Tits and Tail Unless Nonagenarian
And I bet Rudy Giuliani won’t be getting invited to any more tv shows on the networks in the near future.
Nothing ever happens.
“prosecution seems pretty excited about prosecuting this one, so expect her to go down.”
Sexist pigs. If a man had murdered his neighbor as a cop, they would all get in line behind him.
”
And President Trump and Indian PM Modi did something nobody else in Houston seems able to do: fill a football stadium. ”
Trump with a Hindu? Expect a shika hate article soon.
She already hates Modi, so… whenever she gets done frothing at the mouth with rage she’ll write it.
Duo Of Doom: OrangeManBad and CurryCunte team up to battle The Fantastic Four and Hulk
“CurryCunte” was based on my misunderstanding that a woman was still leader of India. Make that “CurryManBad” instead.
Not being well versed on Indian Prime Ministers, I went and checked.
The last (and only) PM of India to be a woman was Indira Ghandi, who died in 1984.
So I assumed she was still in charge since I was 2yrsold. Sue me.
To be fair, “Narendra” does sound like the name of a high school girl that likes to go to fraternity parties.
FUCK, I’ve been reading it wrong the whole time too, I thought it was “Nandera”, goddamn Wheel Of Time.
Heh. I had a close co-worker for ten years with that name. I never did get his opinion on his namesake, you know, because politics at work ugh.
It is true that Joe Biden, while vice president, threatened to withhold aid from Ukraine unless it ousted Shokin and the Ukrainian parliament voted to do so in 2016. But there is no evidence presented that he wanted Shokin removed in order to stop Hunter Biden from being prosecuted, and Shokin’s removal was hardly a surprise. For months he had been widely criticized by the U.S. and European powers for his failure to prosecute government officials and members of Parliament for corrupt actions taken during the Yanukovych administration.
Just a happy coincidence.
Ithe leaping and twisting they do to here would have bothered me. Now it’s just enjoyable.
Note how they don’t know what was said by Trump but know he did wrong. But then talk about lack of evidence with Biden.
I am also amused by their nimble capering and other antics, and the grim, sad looks of desperation in their eyes.
^ Hah!
Where does capering sit on the gamboling spectrum?
Sorta like a trout on the hook.
He really wiped that investigation, you know , like with a cloth.
Ok comment on web design. That CBS article about Trump/Biden/Ukraine. The whole Black background makes it look like a conspiracy theory website.
It isn’t a conspiracy theory website?
And President Trump and Indian PM Modi did something nobody else in Houston seems able to do: fill a football stadium. (
That’s some kino imagery going on there.
Be OUTRAGED
Vice President Pence’s arrival in Michigan with an eight-vehicle motorcade to attend the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference over the weekend ruffled some feathers on an island where cars are generally banned, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The conference took place on the state’s Mackinac Island, a city with a population of around 500 people, according to the 2010 census, that is known for its ban on vehicles. The ban first took effect in the late 19th century, Time magazine reported.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the vice president’s motorcade is the first ever to arrive in the community, where residents generally commute by bike or snowmobile in colder weather. However, residents can be granted a temporary vehicle permit in certain circumstances.
It has long been custom for the president and vice president to travel with several armored vehicles by motorcade as a security measure.
However, the sight of the vice president’s motorcade on Mackinac Island prompted some criticism from local Democratic leaders.
Former state Senate candidate Julia Pulver (D) tweeted a video of the vice president’s motorcade and wrote, “For those not from MI, you should understand what a huge transgression this is.”
“Our #MackinacIsland has been a car free haven forever, a piece of history frozen in time. Tell anyone from MI @VP just drove not 1 but 8 CARS on this island & watch their blood boil,” she continued.
OMFG it’s like a thumb in the eye of all right-thinking Americans!
At least Hilary had the decency to not show up to Michigan. She knew it would only be offensive to those Hicks.
And Ford rode in a carriage, because he was too clumsy to gracefully exit a car?
Given the cost of visitning Mackinac as a tourist, I doubt this will have a whole lot of traction with the general populace. It’ll be like plastic pink flamingos on Martha’s Vineyard. Uncouth to the elites, but at most mildly amusing to others.
*yawn*
Shoulda gone with the bullet-proof palanquin.
“Not a single person of color chosen as palanquin bearer.”
“Too many people of color chosen as bearers.”
“Exactly half of the bearers chosen were people of color.
There’s pretty much no way the palanquin strategy could come out as a winner.
I guess I didn’t think that through to its logical end.
This is why you’re not in charge of pissing off indigenous indignants.
^This.
And there were no women!
It’d have to be all-male or all-female to keep the palanquin level.
Nonsense, just use soyboys, why’re only about as strong as normal women anyway. They’ll be bent over like reeds, but it’ll be level.
*turns back to drawing board*
“why’re” ?
I’m too tired to type today.
definitely off the bearer shortlist.
Oh fuck off
Yeah, and those cars are probably going to be idling a lot, too. Much womp, womp.
She doesn’t seem to have given any thought whatsoever to how big a presidential security detail actually is, and all the things they carry with them.
What? You don’t trust Percheron carriages in fleeing from ambuscade?
Oh, I’m sure the draft horses would be up to the task of pulling the limo, but they’d still need to motor to run all the comm, security, etc.
And where do these people get their electricity anyway? Pocket power plant? Underground cable?
“For those not from MI, you should understand what a huge transgression this is.”
“Our #MackinacIsland has been a car free haven forever, a piece of history frozen in time.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUXHB5U-Vl4
Appropriate!
It’s akin to bringing a car to the garden of Eden. That bastard has no sanctity for anything.
If it’s been a car free haven forever, why are there ROADZ capable of car access?
GO BACK TO SOMALIA, LIBTARD
Haven’t you ever stuck around one of those theme towns like that?
Tourist season: Everyone walks, bikes, churns butter by hand and bakes their own bread in an oak fired stone oven.
Off season: They drive cars and buy Land-O-Lakes Salted and put it on their Bunny Bread toast.
I actually live in one of those towns. All the ice cream stands are closing in a week, not to reopen until April.
But it will only be October!
Someone watched Somewhere in Time too much.
That’s a pretty good flick, btw. Screenplay by Richard Matheson, smoking hot Jane Seymour, great love story.
>>“For those not from MI, you should understand what a huge transgression this is.”
I’m from Michigan and I care thiiiiis much. ::yawns::
Me too but I care a little bit, when in Rome and all that. I really hate their over-the-top security measures, all politicians are expendable with thousands of equally qualified empty suits that can take their place with a minimum of disruption.
Meh, I’m for self-governance, If those people don’t want cars on their island and the Veep can’t go anywhere without a car than I guess the Veep shouldn’t have gone there.
Then they probably shouldn’t have issued the permit, right? Or did Pence airdrop a motorcade in complete defiance of The Law? Seems that would’ve gotten a mention in the writeup.
Really, the obvious problem is those Mackinack Republican Leaders having the a conference in the first place. There ought to be a law.
As far as I can tell, it’s a bunch of politicos with a D after their name outraged on behalf of Mackinak.
I won’t be too disappointed when Trump gets re-elected.
Yeah, I don’t know the details and if they asked and got permission great, knowing how the FYTY clause works I’m inclined to think the Secret Service just did what they wanted.
So they brought a buch of hooker’s and crashed one of the cars?
I’m wondering if the conference organizers invited him. But there’s not a whole lot about them in any of this coverage.
Though it is interesting to note that the Hill ignores the remarks from the people at Mackinak that they were not themselves bothered by the motorcade and understood the security concerns. These remarks were in the Detroit Free Press article. I guess copy-pasting twits by outraged dem politicians is more up their alley.
Show me proof that it is their island and I’ll agree with you, but the fact that a group of people from the island invited him seems like proof that it isn’t their island.
Is there anything more Left liberal than sticking up for the rich little guy?
Put him on a bike, maybe he gets assassinated. That’s not that bad, right?
“expect her to go down”
Indeed. I’ve seen OITNB.
She kinda does resemble the lead actress.
Another damn thing to google. Let;s see. Oh ok a tv show I never saw.
Orange is the new “Chained Heat?”
That sounds more like something I would watch
Don’t. It’s a really bad film and not nearly as hot as the premise advertised.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib called the vice president’s motorcade “disgusting.”
Disgusting. I am in such disbelief that this was allowed to happen. This Administration doesn’t care about the law (you know, the U.S. Constitution), so it shouldn’t surprise me so much that they don’t care about our history or traditions. #MackinacIsland https://t.co/jvyMBCakrG
— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) September 22, 2019
Ooh, the “our history and traditions” card; ballsy move, Rashida.
I think that is both sexist and racist. But who knows these days
Someone must have told her he brought a Jew on to the island.
*snort*
“our history and traditions”
Honor killings, female genital mutilation and anti-Semitism?
It’s all about the benjamins
You are mixing up your muslim freshwomen. Tlaib comes from the tradition of sitting around for 3 generations whining about being a refugee, while flinging anything you can find at those providing your food, energy and shelter, because of parentheses. It’s Omar who comes from the honor killing, clit cutter clan.
Clit Cutter Clan.
All-female punk trio?
I like to imagine the four of them as a composite character. That way they’re all guilty of each others transgressions.
Who’s the fourth?
Pressley. The black face/black voice chick.
Thanks.
Of the four, she might have a future, because people keep forgetting she exists.
“Disgusting!” she repeated before pulling a six inch long earthworm from its burrow and devouring it before the shocked press corps.
She’s probably never heard of the fucking place before this

She actually tweeted “you know,” like a vapid teenager.
And Sheedy should know better, being a congresscritter.
To much time with Sandy.
She took a shit on Mackinak Island once.

This quote is a keeper.
So you’ll defend the 2A right? I mean since you care soooo much about American history and traditions.
Lost in the partisan finger pointing- the security blankets for top government officials is way too much, the inconvenience to their bosses aka the public is far too high, and they travel too much. There’s several hundred million people that can step in if one them was capped.

Outreach for Hicksville
Progressive organization Way to Win plans to invest $50 million to help the Democratic Party in the Sun Belt, the Associated Press reported Sunday.
An advance copy of the group’s blueprint obtained by AP details a strategy to help Democrats in Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Virginia and North Carolina, where the party hopes to make inroads with people of color, women and young people.
“It’s preparing to win not just in 2020, but to build power in the long term,” Tory Gavito, president of Way to Win, which was founded after President Donald Trump’s 2016 win, told AP.
“Listen up, dummies. Orange Man Bad. You no vote for him, savvy?”

Funniest/Most Insightful Comments Of The Week At Techdirt
Play in techdirt, you get dirty.
It’s story’s like this that remind me that I think fundamentally differently from them. Streetlights justify violence.
That has to be the most pointless anecdote on the “failure” of “libertarianism” I’ve yet seen. Street lights? Really?
Also, the same thing is going to happen when the climate change cult goes after pointless uses of electricity. But I’m sure it’ll be virtuous and worth the cost then.
I missed the second bit on first reading. If you think limousine liberals voting to hand money to the poors isn’t about fear, you’re pretty damn naive.
Celebrating Batman is funny.
We are celebrating a rich guy who punches poor people every night for no reason other than that he can.
A lot of people’s parents die. That doesn’t mean you need to punch people.
https://twitter.com/NickWatchnStuff/status/1175838001303150602
A: Given the capital investment requirements of a lot of supervillain schemes, there’s no way the rogues’ gallery is made up entirely of poor people.
B: When you’re in the process of committing a crime, it doesn’t matter what the background is of the person who stops you.
“punches poor people every night for no reason other than that he can.”
I mean that and they’re criminals. But you know, let’s just hand waive that.
Jokes are supposed to be funny because they recognize a truth. If you are creating a lie to tell the joke, it’s not going to play well.
Still a better character then Superman (who also had his parents die).
Jor El was an idiot. There were at least a half dozen ways with known Kryptonian tech to save more people, and not orphan his kid.
Doesn’t make for a cool story about the last Kryptonian though…
Ok Braniac.
Which one?
“least a half dozen ways”
Start listing them because I have no idea what was possible with Kryptonian tech.
While a lot are debatable, depending upon which reboot you’re operating in, the most common would be to use a phantom zone projector to move people to said phantom zone, and have that on the ship in place of the passenger/life support then return the refugees to this world once the craft reached its destination. There would be enough of them to fight off attempts by the criminals to use theopportunity to escape, and you could save quite a few people that way.
Is that parody or not? I just can’t tell anymore.
Honestly, what with all the super-villainy equipment and gadgets and whatnot, Batman’s punchees contained a higher percentage of rich people than the general criminal population.
Though he is cruel towards the metally ill.
Returning them to Arkham? That place has such a bad record, it has more staff gone crazy than patients successfully treated.

One day after media outlets reported on Ben Carson’s latest episode of making disparaging remarks towards transgender people, the Housing and Urban Development Secretary sent an email to his agency staffers to explain his controversial comments.
On Thursday, The Washington Post reported on a series of remarks made by Carson, saying that the former neurosurgeon repeatedly mocks transgender women.
The Post reported on comments made by the HUD secretary in a recent trip California, which shocked and upset many of near 50 staffers who were present, and led to at least one woman to walk out of the meeting in protest.
In a visit to the HUD office in San Francisco on Tuesday, the agency’s no. 1 official expressed concern about the risk posed by “big, hairy men” to infiltrate women’s homeless shelters. He was referring to transgender women.
He also lamented that society no longer knows the difference between men and women, according to two of the agency staffers, as reported by the newspaper.
Besides upsetting his own staff, the remarks also prompted some Democrats to call for his resignation.
U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton, a Democrat from Virginia called the remarks “revolting,” according to The Hill.
“These comments only affirm that his recent efforts to erase the Equal Access Rule are rooted in ignorance, not sound policy. By allowing shelters to discriminate against transgender Americans, the Secretary is putting lives in danger,” she said.
Sure, whatever. Off with his head!
There’s a difference between what you like to do with your genitals and calling your genitals something that they are not.
How about asking some actual women who rely on these shelters? Maybe they have an opinion that is more relevant than the ravings of pampered Democrat government apparatchiks?
My daughter just spent a month in a women’s shelter. I think she was happy that no men were there plus the anonymity of the home. Even I didn’t know the location nor was I interested. She felt safe even if inconvenienced.
Sorry to hear that about your daughter Fourscore. Hope things have worked out for her.
I volunteered at a women’s shelter once. There is no way a transgender woman could get in without a whole lot of hell being raised by the residents.
While this is just normal outrage theater, the hatred that gets directed at Carson is mind-boggling at times. While I generally dislike Colbert nowadays for his “earnest” shtick (he’s just playing another character, but this time he won’t admit it) anyway, the vitriol he had for Carson was stunning.
Now do Thomas Sowell. Or Clarence Thomas.
There’s no one the Dems hate more than a black man or woman who goes off or against the fedgov plantation.
This woman plays with major symphonies, was Secretary of State, National Security Adviser, an Ivy League Professor (after being provost and turning the school from a red to black operating budget), is on the board of a bunch of major tech company you know the name of, and is on the board of a major investment firm I didn’t know the name of. And in her free time she serves on the committee that picks which college football teams get to play in the playoffs.
But you’ll never hear half of that, unlike with Herself who was the Most Qualified Candidate evar.

These cosmopolitan liberals seem pretty fond of environmentalism, identity politics, loath free markets, hate personal liberty and their “cultural individualism” seems to consist of “live in the Upper East Side (and whatever London and Parisian equivalent) and agree with us on everything”
Yeah no shit. Any group that wants to protect their power and privileges ain’t going to be interested in ideological consistency. Cosmopolitan liberals were nativist and nationalist in the past so they can return to those positions if it is politically expedient to them.

I find it funny that a lot of pre-code fans are sjwd. Okay to offend some prudes but not me! Also that photo might appeal to toxic masculinity, gun nuts and the alt-right so maybe censorship is good.
Nice!

The movie International House is a great sample of pre-code comedy. It’s actually pretty funny (W.C. Fields is in it).

The German 88mm gun was also one hell of a tank killer.
If I remember right the panzer or the tiger was just an 88 with a tank chassis.
The Tiger had an 88.
There were multiple models of Panzer with a variety of armaments.
All Tigers were panzers, not all panzers were Tigers. I think leon may have meant panther however.
When there are multiple panzers literally named panzer, it’s a more obvious meaning for someone referencing a panzer than the generic term.
Alternatively, he could have meant Panzer by yet another definition of the term.
Except that the Panther and Tiger, are also literally named panzer. PzKW V and Vi to be specific, and at least the Panzer II also had a cat name, it was the lynx. Panzer just means armor.
technically the luchs only refers a later recon variant created after the “cat names” had started – the original pzkpfw II was just that, like the pz kpfw I-IV.
Honestly i just meant some WW2 Era German Tank. I wasn’t aware we had so many Nazi’s commenting here. It doesn’t feel like a safe place anymore.
Sorry Leon, but you’re tarred by association with this bunch of pedants with useless facts.
If I can’t be an unrepentant pedant about tanks, what CAN I be an unrepentant pedant about?
I have a serious love for WW2 German and Russian tanks.
The British and the US? Not so much.
Monster tractors with armor, machine guns, and cannon… how can you not be into them?
Well, the Japanese didn’t seem terribly enthusiastic if their attempts at building some are anything to go by.
Until they managed to get us into the war their little tanks worked just fine, and made sense given that they were fighting predominantly jungle and amphibious wars.
what about the Type 3 Chi-Nu medium tank?
lol:
The Japanese also contracted for delivery of some Tigers, but I don’t think they ever made it to Japan.
I had to look it up – it was the Tiger. Panzer had a 76mm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_tanks_in_World_War_II
Which Panzer – I, II, II, or IV?
I – two 7.62 MGs (!!)
II – two 20mm cannons
III – various including the 75mm
IV – looks to be 75mm
It was early in the development of armored warfare doctrine, mistakes were made, a few thousand adorable but useless armored vehicles produced, things like that.
I would very much love to have a Dingo. https://youtu.be/nm67CBXBK2c

That is appropriate in so many ways.
The Jagdpanther and Nashorn tank destroyers also carried 88s
Should clarify the Tank destroyers carried the Pak 43 88, while the Tiger had the KwK 43. Slightly different guns.
I thought that was the sign for the Van Buren Boys?
*Studio audience Oooooooh…*
So many antisemitic football players wearing 88.

Something I learned about, recently, by accident
Most engines feature a separate starter motor and generator (commonly referred to as an alternator). Mercedes has replaced these by a single, powerful starter generator sandwiched between the engine and transmission. The starter generator can now assist the internal combustion engine, for example when moving off the line or under high-load situations, and under braking it can recover energy. This recovered energy can be used not only for aiding acceleration but also to power ancillary features such as the air conditioner, engine cooling systems, and in-car entertainment systems.
And because the starter generator is more powerful than a conventional starter motor, firing up the engine is said to be much smoother, which is especially useful for engine stop-start situations. Mercedes says the extra smoothness makes the system more durable, meaning the engine can now be switched off at anytime it isn’t needed: now when slowing down for a stop or coasting on the highway without the accelerator depressed, as well as when stopped at traffic lights.
This is all made possible by a new 48-volt battery. The 48-volt battery offers four times the power of current 12-volt batteries at unchanged currents, but without the complex—and costly—safety systems required for high-voltage systems found in hybrid and electric cars.
I don’t want one, but it’s an interesting approach. In the early days (Model Ts had them, I think) the starter and generator functions were incorporated in the same unit. It’s in the bell housing, and it’s not clear to me whether it also incorporates the torque converter, but I suspect it does. They eliminated all the accessory drives normally hanging off the front of the motor. The water pump is now electric. Definitely a radical change in packaging.
I’ve been thinking of buying an old Ford Model T to bomb around in the suburbs. There is still quite a following for the rugged little things.
One thing I keep forgetting about those classic cars is the complete lack of things like seatbelts.
That’s stopped me from buying some vintage 1960s cars – retrofitting seat belts is a pain. Doable, mind you, but a pain.
My ’68 Firebird of yore had lap belts but no shoulder. Perfect for slamming your head on the steering wheel.
I LOVE cars from that era. A Hudson Terraplane or a Pierce Arrow would be sweet (hell, I just came across this particularly beautiful specimen on an image search for Pierce Arrow).
I’m a total 20s/30s history dork. My aesthetic tastes in cars, clothing, music, etc. all gravitate towards that era.
Does SF know you’re stealing his schtick?
Let’s try this again
“And then he closed up his shop and was never to work on his own vehicle again!” The End.
The more I see about the new tech and designs coming down the pike, the more I think I’m gonna keep my current GTI for a long time.
It’s not a bad approach. Making the water pump electric is definitely of interest since it decouples it from the timing belt.
It will take a while to iron out the bugs but I like the simplicity.
Commie twitter account of the day
My main reason for my fall out w/ anarchism is the toxic individualism within its ranks. Anarchists rather “express themselves” into isolation than dress like a normal person to secure popular support. Hence why I became a Marxists. A revolution is NOT a costume party.
I might be many things, but there ain’t nothing bourgeois about me. I mow lawns, serve chickens out a drive thru, & write articles in one day. Never put my dedication into question because my book ain’t free. I’m a Marxist to the grave. Y’all will denounce Marxism to avoid it.
Discipline is to a revolutionary what hydrogen is to water. You cannot have the product without that certain element.
It’s a primary responsibility of organizers to establish a women’s committee in their groups, organizations, unions, & parties. We shouldn’t let chronic personnel shortages convince us into allowing creepy men into our ranks out of desperation.

Honestly, sounds legit commie
If by legit commie you mean deranged narcissistic asshole with tendencies towards sociopathic violence.
I’m just curious if his chicken comes with complimentary word salad or a biscuit.
Ah. The Up Tight Commie. Interesting costume choice.
You’d be pretty “up tight” too if you had to use torn out pages from the phone book to wipe your pooper.
“toxic individualism”
Yep, that’s us.
Man, it really is an ideology for people who enjoy meetings, isn’t it?
Meetings allow people to “contribute” without doing the actual work.
Ah, yes, like how the act of writing a memo provides the justification for the time spent writing the memo. “Look, this email I sent you to tell you that I’m working is proof that I’m working, because it took me at least two hours to get the phrasing just right.”
That’s a lot of choice of spices for a Marxist.
Not legit.

Labour has pledged to abolish all independent schools in the UK if it wins the next general election, following a motion passed by delegates at its annual conference on Sunday.
The opposition party has resolved to include a commitment in its next election manifesto to “integrate all private schools into the state sector”. This would be achieved by withdrawing charitable status, tax exemptions — including business rates — and all other public subsidies from private institutions.
A future Labour government would seek to implement the policy by initially ensuring that the proportion of students admitted to universities from private schools did not exceed their share of the overall school population, which currently stands at 7 per cent.
The party has also pledged to take control of “endowments, investments and properties held by private schools” and ensure they are redistributed “democratically and fairly across the country’s educational institutions”.
Does the UK not have private Uni’s?
Not for long?
Does it matter?
I don’t consider a University that has that level of detail of policy dictated to be private.
I mean i guess the US doesn’t have any real Private Universities either…
There are a couple of genuinely private (don’t take fedgov student loans) universities out there. However, I think a few of them have closed down lately (so have a lot of “private but we take fedgov bucks” universities, too) because the economics just don’t work anymore in the age of student loans. Sure, you might save some costs by not complying with the all of the DoEd rules but you probably can’t offer scholarships on par with student loans and other forms of federal assistance.
Oh, Babylon Bee, you got me aga….wait, what?
Corbyn is a dyed in the wool commie, probably because he went to one of the exclusive schools.
Aren’t the private schools the greatest homosexual mills in the country? /based on the number of gay UK authors I’ve read.
They’re definitely hunting grounds for the pedos and have been for a long while. Send a kid off away from their parents into the tender loving care of strangers? That’s pedo crack.
Fagging is not gay
Not all private schools are boarding schools — that’s where the greatest potential for abuse is.
Yanno,
If I put up an apartment building in a “good” school district, and staffed it with a common kitchen and concierge service, could parents rent units there and use it as a boarding school without running afoul of the various laws keeping their kids in a particular school?
Depends on whether the parent is domiciled there too. I think you run a risk of minors in residences on their own being barred by other child welfare laws.
I’m Henry VIII, I am, I am!
OUT: We need an Independent Education system to ensure free thought.
IN: We need to take over the education system to ensure 100% compliance and attendance to our indoctrination.
I don’t know why certain things seem to hit more home for me than others. Talk about green new deal all day and i’ll laugh. But talking about appropriating and stealing private funds… It becomes very real. Maybe because i feel that they are actually sincere.
Corbyn is absolutely sincere. He’s a dyed-in-the-wool commie that would love to turn the UK into Cuba.
It’s been a long while since the English have had a good revolution…
704 years and 3 months.
Does that include madrassas? Might upset a few constituents of Labour…
Yeshivas? Catholic Schools, etc?
Copying articles to share with others is a breach of FT.com T&Cs and Copyright Policy
I don’t think you can actually restrict that. It is illegal to circumvent a technical measure, which certainly creates a lot of gray areas, but if you were able to copy it and they could detect it, I don’t think they can actually forbid it. It is copying an entire article verbatim that is a violation of copyright, while copying excerpts falls under fair use (odd corner case: what if the entirety of the article and a small excerpt are one and the same because the article is so short?).
I’ve been thinking this for a while. Juul trying to protect its market basically screwed both itself and all the other producers.
Paywalled
They basically admitted guilt in order to (hopefully but it backfired) get the regulators and the public health nuts on their side and they fucked over their customers and the industry as a whole. Screw them.
One thing I keep forgetting about those classic cars is the complete lack of things like seatbelts.
Buster Keaton didn’t need no stinkin’ seat belt.
Nor safety harnesses or much if any padding.

Sex Diaries: ‘I’m Bi And Having The Best Sex Of My Life – With Women
How many men would put up with that? Comes off as I only like women, I just want you to make kids and you need to stay in the picture to help raise them.
This is what harems are good for
Yeah, I mean, she’s pretty much saying she’s a lesbian who wants a man around to watch her kids, and presumably contribute financially. Which is an interesting conundrum for any women she gets involved with who might actually want a committed relationship. Sounds like she just wants to flit around and do her thing, which is fine, but it’s not brave or profound or anything.
It’s like you didn’t even read my comment…. :runs of and cries:
It really was a lovely comment, and that was terribly insensitive of me.

So how does overthrow the status quo but let “the ideological foundations” or “cultural structure” remain intact?
So what is to prevent this new orthodoxy of rejecting the “cultural structure” or “ideological foundation”?
As far as I can tell Tucker resolves this paradox by claiming that his views are “revolutionary” and his opponents are “reactionaries” and “counterrevolutionaries”. I mean that worked out so well before!
So what is to prevent this new orthodoxy of rejecting the “cultural structure” or “ideological foundation”?
Our powers of persuasion?
One of the things I intensely dislike about you, Winston, is that you seem to think that happiness should be handed to you on a platter, and you whine incessantly about how uncertain life is.
Yes people are panicky creatures. Yes, our enemies have really got the “break their leg, and hand them a crutch and terrify them about not having crutches” thing down.
But what’s happening now is the symptoms of a system in collapse, and we have opportunities to shape the next system that replaces it. As do our ideological opponents. Gosh.
Well I guess it is my cynicism and pessimism about politics that makes me come across that way. Also I would like to know if I am in fact too pessimistic and cynical about politics so I like to post my views and see if I can get a rebuttal since I realize that I might have blinkered views.
I don’t dislike you Winston. You’re a good sport. But yes, you are pessimistic and cynical. (hell so am I) Try to remember that despite all the evil crap the left is trying, and the absolute ineffectiveness of the libertarian right, we still live in an era of unparalleled safety, comfort, and prosperity.
The biggest difference between a revolutionary and a reactionary is whether their enemies are reactionaries or revolutionaries, respectively. They exist to oppose each other. Saying you’re one but not the other is no real assurance.
Uffda. I can’t pick out the stupidest thing from tongue bath of a profile of Isra Omar (yes, Ilhan’s daughter). You have to read it yourself to find out how she is totally a super eco-warrior.
I thought Ilhan was bad, but now it looks like there will be an Omar political dynasty here in Minnesoda?
Oh fuck off
After only a few months in office, the Omar-Hirsi family had to relocate to a safer, more discreet, and, to Isra’s dismay, whiter neighborhood…
There might even be Jews there.
Now that Ilhan has abandoned them, maybe they can move back to their old “authentic” digs?
I’m sayin’, if she wants to move somewhere with fewer white people I’d assume Minnesota is gonna be a bad choice, but her mom can probably recommend a country from her own personal experience where you’d be hard pressed to find a honky.

It’s a fad. It will fade away in the mists of time and be resurrected twenty years later, just like all fads do. Notable exceptions being the leisure suit and the tube top.
It will. Like how people lost their shit over the fears of the Soviets dropping the bomb (The Day After!), AIDS, Acid Rain, Farm Aid, and the Amazon it eventually dissipated.
The only difference with the CC is they’ve put time constraints to make it extra special crispy scary. It’s the Tabasco sauce the other movements missed!
It is tiring always being afraid. Eventually after years of nothing happening, you relax. And that is when disaster strikes. I’m betting on the Albigensian heretics bringing down Christendom, but it could also be the doomsday comet ushering in the millennium.
No one uses ‘Albigensian’. We knew you were a secret Cathar!
Burn him!
That would be cathartic, yes.

So is Jeremy Corbyn one of those cosmopolitan liberals? He represents a London seat, went to a London University and traveled to Latin America while young.
What’s wrong with traveling to Latin America whey you are young? I did it and i turned out fine.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Corbyn
I like to poke fun at all those folks at AIER and the like who seems to think rich University educated urbanites who travel are inherently libertarian despite the evidence showing that these aren’t inherently libertarian.
All I got out of that is he smoked a shit-ton of pot.
A pothead being a commie? Impossible!
He also attended a May Day march in Santiago, where the atmosphere around Salvador Allende’s Popular Unity alliance which swept to power in the Chilean elections of 1970 made an impression on him….
It’s just a shame General Pinochet’s helicopter service for communists didn’t also make an impression with him. On the ground.
a deep. deep impression
I know quite a few affluent “progressives” who adopt a ferociously libertarian attitude as soon as some regulation negatively affects them. They’ll rant and rave about how this law is screwing over ordinary working people and should have never been passed (of course, sometimes they just blame “the corporations”, like my stepdad who went on a tirade against Wal-Mart after they declined to sell him a bottle of wine because he had a young-looking person with him who wasn’t carrying ID).
But the rest of the time, they’ll insist that “we have to have those regulations, or else-” and proceed to describe some worst-worst-worst case apocalyptic nightmare scenario that would probably never occur.

“Just throw out 75% of our data set because it doesn’t support our thesis.”
If that was the case, they’d still have 25% of the data. Climate approximation is, just assume the data fits the model, and if it doesn’t “revise” it until it does.

Hi everyone! I have abig favor to ask. Please go to Peter Ridd’s GoFundMe page and kick in a few bucks.
You might remember him as the physicist who was sacked from John Cook University. From my earlier write up:
The judge ruled that the Uni owed him 1.2 million AUSD. Sadly, John Cook University has decided to appeal, and the appeal is expected to cost Dr Ridd, 1.5 million AUSD to fight.
Hence his go fund me page.
Kick in a few bucks. These bastards need to be curb stomped on the appellate level as well.
Will do.
Australia has loser pays, right? So hopefully once this is done they’re paying the $1.2 million plus the legal fees.

Maybe someone here can answer, but WTF is the point of this “shut down DC” thing today? Is impeding peoples’ travel somehow going to endear them to your cause? (not to mention the extra carbon being emitted by the cars idling…)
Trump Shutsdown DC and everyone freaks out. All these Climate Protestors do it and it’s brave.
Agreed.
Raised in the city for most of her life, Isra doesn’t care all that much for nature. She’s not into hiking, though she did go camping once (mainly because it was a free trip). Her advocacy has nothing to do with a deep love for the outdoors and everything to do with the communities disproportionately hurt by climate change—not because their favorite rafting river is drying up, but because their drinking water is poisoned and the air they breathe is killing them. To her, this is the only climate advocacy that makes sense.
“[They’re] talking about how much they love grass and their lakes—I can’t connect with you on that,” she said of white-led environmental groups. “So it’s a subtle We don’t want you here because they talk about things, knowing people like me can’t relate.”

Ha ha. I was running a youth event for fifth graders last week and snapping a few pics. One turns out to show my good friend’s kid and the new girl in some very awkward-I-don’t-know-what-i’m doing flirting poses. The girl had her left arm straight down and her right hand holding her left elbow, making bambi eye. The boy was blushing and had his hands in his pocket and couldn’t make eye contact. They were both grinning like idiots.
Showed it to my friend aka the boys dad. He just says “sshhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii” and kind of tappers off.
This study shows that inattention may be among the most powerful early behavioral predictors of future earnings. It also demonstrates that it is possible to identify children at risk of lower future earnings based on a single teacher assessment made in kindergarten, which has important practical implications. If these children can be identified, then it may be possible to intervene—for example, by flagging them for further assessment or by providing support or prevention programs—and thus improve their life chances.
That is terrifying.
Oh, you mean like that expensive Head Start program which yielded marginal results at best? Or is this a new level of more expensive and intrusive interventions.
This was my thought. I think by kindergarten, it may be too late to do super-useful intervention.
It is. But it’s also a fallacy to think that “interventions” short of removing those kids from those bad environments can do any good. And even if such a thing were moral or legal, we know we can’t trust the government to provide a better environment.

He is a “free-range” kid otherwise, doung mostly exactly what he wants to though with some super-bad habits (which I will not explain) that we are trying to train out of him. But otherwise, he’s free to go anywhere on his bicycle. He just has to be home by dark.
Our problem with him is he deliberately does exactly what he wants without regard for what we want. He basically says, “Fuck you, Mom and Dad.” It’s dispiriting.
For example, last night, I asked him to go to Walgreens for something very specific. He decided to go to QuikTrip instead and got something that was not the thing because QuikTrip didn’t have the thing. Duh. I was very specific about where I wanted him to go and what I wanted him to get, but he decided to do exactly what he wanted to do. This is an everyday occurrence.
Sorry Mojeaux, I realize that some kids do need to be medicated for various reasons. You appear to be informed on the issue and your child is likely one of the few that actually needs the meds. There are a lot of children that are drugged for expediencies’ sake and that’s what I take issue with.
I know, and I agree with the feeling that it might be expendience, but for me, it is definitely not expedient for me to have to take him to the doc every 3 months to get his RX.
The other thing is that while some moms might be willing to kick their kids out at dawn and let them go until sunset, there are still people who want to call CPS on you. Sooooo many things you can’t do now that you used to be able to to keep kids under control and now, some busybody is going to stick their nose in it.
Look at the People of Walmart site. Kid not under control comments are, “Get that kid under control!” Kid with a backpack leash? “Why you puttin’ kids on a leash like he a dog?” Yeah, mine was on a leash to keep him from breaking everydamnthing he touched.
If these children can be identified, then it may be possible to intervene—for example, by flagging them
Seems harsh.
Oh, “flagging”. Never mind.

It seems like she’s a MILF, but a bit out on the hot/crazy continuum. She was in the papers three years ago throwing a tantrum because McDonalds gave her vouchers in response to finding a fingernail in her burger.
Oooh, I missed the “mom of five” bit from the article LH linked. Doesn’t say anything, but no father in the picture…five kids…kind of selfie-focused…she’s got deranged thot written all over her.
Mojeaux?
If she a mom she should be banned, too! BAN THEM!
Done it. Not for that. I was checking up on the teacher.
Fifth grade strings. I got in a huff when my friend at church, who is a violin maven was upset about the bad habits the strings teacher was teaching. I know nothing about strings, but I do know quite a bit about music.
I wouldn’t have done it for that. But my kid said the class was chaotic and they didn’t actually oractice anything.
So I popped in on my kid’s class unannounced. Sure enough it was a mess. The teacher was teaching, but he had no control over the classroom. Withdrew my kid and took the viola back so I didn’t have to pay rent on it anymore.
How odd. Usually they pay the kids to take violas.
Ugh. She’s guilty of eyebrow crimes.
What happens next at WeWork
This episode of “Billions” is lit af
According to the Journal, the situation is “fluid” and Neumann “still has allies among the directors and the ability to fire the entire board thanks to shares he controls that carry extra votes.”
Sounds like he’s got them by the tight and curlies.
“This is not the way everybody behaves,” said Costolo. “The degree of self-dealing in the S-1 is so egregious, and it comes at a time when you’ve got regulators and politicians and folks across the country looking out at Silicon Valley and wondering if there’s the appropriate level of self-awareness.”
If he did something fraudulent then they should bring suit.
Dumbasses didn’t read the paperwork before signing.
It is interesting. The WeWork model, or something similar to it, will have a big impact on the future.
The model has had a big impact since like the 1990’s. The only difference is WeWorks has been marking to the self-involved and is scummier than your standard real-estate firm.
Exactly – the future.
The also have a business model with literally zero barrier to entry.

I don’t know if it reaches the level of fraud, but they basically invented new accounting measures to try to make them look better.
They also categorize things as revenue that clearly aren’t.
I am not an accountant nor a lawyer, so I don’t know where these kind of accounting games cross the line into illegal, but they seem pretty damn bad to me.
https://medium.com/@henry.hawksberry/is-we-work-a-fraud-5b78987d3e61
WeWork post full year invoices for the year ahead this year to inflate their revenues. They then heavily discount those invoices they’ve already raised and treat them as expenses. They then pay whichever broker secured that lead 100%, yes 100% of the contract value. Note the industry standard commission is 10%. Neither the discounts nor the 100% in commission payments appear in their Financials as they are ‘community adjusted’. They also do the opposite, they turn expenses into revenues so imagine a landlord agrees to discount their rent by £250k to offset a portion of their build costs, standard practice, WeWork treats that £250k as revenue. They also charge members even after they’ve vacated, then credit them later.
The expenses as detailed in their accounts & S1 disclosure is not accurate. To hide two crippling cost groups; fit-outs & marketing, they invented a brand new accounting principle which they called ‘community-adjusted EBITA’S’. If they hadn’t they would have had to post actual accumulated losses in the region of $6 billion instead of the $4 billion reported. Why don’t we all do this. This is another strong indicator, they are hiding actual losses to mislead, knowingly.

It is a rather deranged state of affairs.
The homeless are getting fiber in their diet. Good to hear.
“The Oregon city recently acknowledged that it removed 3,300 gallons of human waste from the streets in the past year alone.”
Way down the chain of command, some poor sap is having to measure (or estimate) the volume of shit he totes off the streets.

It is officially classed as a biohazard, and you’re supposed to take appropriate precautionsbecause you don’t know what diseases might be involved.
Full suit is probably overkill, since that’s more than even sewage plant workers wear when doing tasks like replacing lift pumps in pits litterally filled with shit.
I have no idea how people deal with the smell down there. Hell, when I drop a particularly pungent sample in my own toilet (e.g. after eating fish curry) I’m compelled to open the windows, turn on a fan, and leave the bathroom as soon as possible.
But hats off to those who can do it. It’s a thankless job that is extremely important for society.
You should certainly be following the proper PPE guidelines when dealing with street people poo.
Of course, when I lived there in the mid-90s, the city was busy shutting down the public restrooms to discourage the homeless.

Some ‘Podunk’ Town In The Middle Of Nowhere
You Ever Pick Your Feet In Poughkeepsie?
I prefer Bumfuck, Nowhere anyway.
Now I want to use it in a derogatory way, just to spite them.
Podunk is a Nipmuc word. Basically it means ‘place where you sink in the mire’ i.e. sucky shithole. They used the term to describe a neighboring tribe, and also the location of that tribe’s winter camp.
So basically, it’s taking an Algonquin word that essentially means ‘shithole occupied by losers’ and incorporating it into English. And damn right that word is intended to be offensive. That’s why the Nipmuc people used it.
So … Podunk DC?
Definitely.
Having been to Egypt, TX the phrase “Way out in B.F.E.” makes perfect sense.

Trudeau Claims He Was Known As ‘Corn Pop’ Until A Cool White Dude Turned His Life Around
Moral clarity
Pope Francis returned to his criticisms of the economy Sunday, saying that money is “dishonest wealth,” also known as “the devil’s dung.”
——-
Sunday’s speech was not the first time that Pope Francis has used colorful language in speaking about money, or even for the reference to “the devil’s dung,” a quotation from Saint Basil the Great.
“It is not easy to talk about money,” Francis said in an address to the Italian Confederation of Cooperatives in 2015. “Money is the devil’s dung of the devil! When money becomes an idol, it rules over a person’s choices. And then it ruins a person and condemns him, turning him into a slave.”
The pope called for a “creative imagination” to find new methods, attitudes and tools to combat the “culture of waste,” in which the world is immersed, “fueled by the powers that govern the economic and financial policies of the globalized world, whose center is the god of money.”
et c.
Popes don’t care about money. Their wealth is embodies by
spiritualityart, jewels, gold, real estate, and plundered historical artifacts.Translated: Money is evil, give it to us and let us cleanse it of sin.
So, the Pope is a Yen Buddhist?
He starts out stupid, then gets somthing right:
When money becomes an idol, it rules over a person’s choices. And then it ruins a person and condemns him, turning him into a slave.
Basically, at that point, he gets to “The love of money is the root of all evil.”
Money isn’t the problem, idolatry is the problem.
There is a CS Lewis essay with a hypothetical conversation between a brain and a body. At one point the Body says something like, “Stop blaming me, you are the one making me do these things.”
Yeah, but then it gets stupid again.
That was my guess.
Stupid, one correct thing for a brief moment, descent back into stupidity.

Fake news
A man is working to legally carry a handgun in Maryland, writing in a 2017 application that his work with the Trump administration put him in danger.
Edward Holmes Whalen, then a staffer on the Senate’s Indian Affairs Committee, has his case in front of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals after both the initial application to carry a gun and his appeal was denied, according to the Washington Post.
In Maryland, in addition to passing a background check and undergoing a training course, individuals who want to carry a handgun outside of their home must prove that there is a “good and substantial reason” for having it on them “such as finding that the permit is necessary as a reasonable precaution against danger.”
Whalen said in his application that the tense political atmosphere puts him at risk.
“I believe either me or my family, while traversing the State of Maryland,” Whalen wrote, “are at a greater risk to be exposed to hostile encounters with individuals who vehemently (and violently) oppose the President’s vision for our country, particularly as it relates to foreign policy and terrorism.”
“It is no secret that the political and social climate in the D.C. Metropolitan Area has become divisive and, at times, violent,” he added. “The threat of violence that is assumed by members of Congress, and their staff, is very real.”
He should have known better than to associate himself with Public Enemy Number One.
How do judges manage to contort their thinking to the point that these restrictions are seen as constitutional?
The same way they can look at a clause reading “The right of the people shall not be…” and declare it only restrained the federal government from restricting it.
ie, they’re not. They just need to put enough bullshit on the page to make it seem like they are.
No fucking idea. You can see how fucking bizarre it is if you imagine those kinds of restrictions applied to any other Constitutional right:
Oh sure, you can exercise free speech inside your home, but if you want to protest out in public or send electronic speech that leaves your home, you have to get a special permit so that we can be sure you won’t be spreading any dangerous ideas.
You can be free from unreasonable search and seizures when you’re at home, but out in public? Well you need a special card for that, and it will require a background check and a fee. Until you have that card, the cops can search your person, your vehicle, and confiscate any of your possessions.
Oh, and some states issue these permits on a “may issue” basis, meaning that they can deny it simply because they don’t think you need it.
“You haven’t renewed your non-quatering permit, so you’re going to have to outfit a barracks in your house.”
Two ways.
1. They want it gone entirely but don’t have the votes or support from the upper ranks of the judiciary.
2. They know the people who believe (1) and want to keep them from getting their way, even if that means meeting them halfway.
Trump staffer?
Red Flag.
…their drinking water is poisoned and the air they breathe is killing them. To her, this is the only climate advocacy that makes sense.
