The Astros lost and are just a game up on the Dodgers. And I just went down a 10 minute rabbit-hole to find out who would get home-field for the World Series if they ended with identical records. And I couldn’t find it. So send help, one of you people with better research skills than me. Milwaukee nipping at the heels of both the Cardinals and the Nats in addition to the best record chasers will make the weekend at least interesting. Also, if you can’t stand the heat give some of that money back.
Big weekend in CFB. Oh yeah, and the Iggles beat the Packers last night and engaged in some serious headhunting while doing so. Jeez, that was a brutal game full of questionable plays.
Cosimo de Medici was born on this day. so were brewer and patriot Samuel Adams, first black senator Hiram Revels, rocker Meat Loaf, writer Irvine Welsh, entitled clown Gwyneth Paltrow, and Canadian person Avril Lavigne.
That list sucks. Don’t blame me. Let’s see if I can get us past it with…the links!
I’m glad to see people fighting back against idiotic cancel culture. But this non-apology/apology won’t result in the media calling off the dogs. It’ll just result in every reporter scouring their social media and deleting everything they said when they were young and stupids they can continue to claim the moral high ground when they try and destroy someone’s lives for page clicks.
Dude, the X-Force tryouts were years ago. Reminds me of the Faces Of Death scene where the dude parachuted into an alligator farm. Also, who here grew up when I did and was convinced that shit was completely real? Or should I say who else thought it was?
People are rushing to condemn the New York Times after they published reports partially identifying the “whistleblower”. Why aren’t they rushing to ask why in the hell does the CIA have an agent in the White House to begin with? Or maybe doing a little follow-up work on this.
And I know some of you guys aren’t fans of twitter. But trust me, you gotta read this to believe it. To sum him up: “The government killed unarmed protesters on this spot. And I vow to make sure the government will be the only people with guns if I’m elected. In the name of safety!” Seriously, fuck that guy.
Talk about your “man bites dog” story. No, really.
Prepare for more injured people on the streets of San Francisco. Also, how nice of the city to give “permits” for people to use a fairly simple mode of transportation. I expect the pilot program to result in a massive shakedown of the industry for tax purposes or for cab drivers to run them over while not being used to get rid of the competition.
Oops! Who would think a cop was the right person to launder their drug money?
This song rocks from the first note on. No fucking around with an intro, just…BAM! Enjoy it.
Now go have a great day and an even better weekend, friends.
– this shit with tweets from 16 year olds is especially fucked up
Dude, the X-Force tryouts were years ago. Reminds me of the Faces Of Death scene where the dude parachuted into an alligator farm. Also, who here grew up when I did and was convinced that shit was completely real? Or should I say who else thought it was? – I am curious if they will change the skydiving area in the future so that it is nowhere near a busy highway… I mean it seems a safety oversight that this was even possible
Modern parachutes are very steerable. 100% operator error.
I could leave a plane @ 13,500 ft and land exactly on the X on the ground.
No you couldn’t. I call internet bragging
You’re a towel!
Wanna get high?
I was high for my AFF level 7.
I’ve only jumped once. I ripped the nastiest fart ever before I stepped out the door. The jumpmaster was gagging.
Then I slipped off the step
When the chute popped, one of the leg straps was “splitting the difference” IYKWIM
Then I hyper-extended a knee on landing.
But I was within a few feet of the X and totally far away from the power lines.
Once was enough
I could do it without a parachute!
Only once though.
People are rushing to condemn the New York Times after they published reports partially identifying the “whistleblower”. Why aren’t they rushing to ask why in the hell does the CIA have an agent in the White House to begin with? Or maybe doing a little follow-up work on this.
#CancelNYT. I would end my subscriptiuon but how the hell would I be subscribet to El Tiempos de Nueva York . I don’t know Spanish, as you can tell
Well, Pie, in today’s world, thye have such things as online subscriptions. You don’t have to be in their physical delivery radius to be subscribed to them.
GDPR may protect Pie from the NYT.
Is it wrong that I read that as German Democratic People’s Republic every time I see it?
Not at all. I have to look up the abbreviation every time myself. Thankfully, I don’t have to deal with it in my role. Other people in my company (and the company I support) do need to deal with it.
Lucky him.
To hell with that! Make that paper boy row across the Atlantic, through the Med and up the Dardanelles!
What are we, China? We should just build an overpriced intercontinental ballistic newspaper cannon to fire it at his house from long island.
What are we, China?
Give us a few years.
So you’re on board with ballistic news delivery?
No I want to see a stream of paper boys spaced 24 hours apart rowing single copies to Pie. Also your concept while a ballistic delivery system has no relationship to ‘news’
*Re-targets cannon to fire at Jarflax*
Well firing blivets at people has a long history, so if you are using it that way I guess it is ok.
Well, I figure after reentry there won’t be any readable ink left, so the only thing to get out of it is kinetic energy.
Why is this important? Team Blue has been trying to impeach Trump since day 1. Are we supposed to believe that this phone call was just a bridge too far?
Exactly.
Impeachment first! Crime later!
By “people,” they mean the same folks who lionized McCain, I assume…
The whistleblower story was a lure for the Dems to initiate impeachment proceedings, but Biden and Obama’s corruption will be what people come away from this with. The object is to take out who was the leader of the primaries, Biden. This throws the primaries into disarray with him gone. Impeachment fails, and Trump easily beats the wacko commies left.
Biden and Obama’s corruption will be what people come away from this with.
I wish, but I’m not hopeful.
You give Donald too much credit.
Good Morning, Glibs time.
goddamnit
???
You interrupted Pie’s Spree of early morning comments.
Ah. Thanks for the illumination.
– after reading sugarfree ehm phrasing?
Why do I get the feeling he would be backing that silly American woman tearing down protest posters in Hong Kong and telling the protesters that “safety is more important than freedom”?
Not a chance. No way Beto ever stands up for an American overseas.
I remember when Beto was supposed to be a libertarianish Democrat…
Back when you used to read Reason?
Yes.
I recall them sucking up the Jeff Flake is a libertarian Flavoraid as well.
When Flake first went to Congress he was about as libertarian as anyone not named Ron Paul. Then he decided to be a senator.
Well, Arizona went from having the least conservative Republican in the Senate to having the most conservative Democrat.
Links, please.
TOS.
That’s not a link.

We check court and arrest records as well as other pertinent public records, including social media activity. The process helps us to understand the whole person.
I don’t think I want to know “the whole” person of anyone.
Right? Maybe report the facts about the specific story and leave it at that.
“Don’t go in the cellar!”
“help me/us understand” is what a journo says just before he’s about to be a shitbag.
“Help you understand? Sir, there is no help for you.”
A shitbag with an agenda itch that must be scratched.
More like Hole Person.
Beto might actually be a retarded person.
He’s like Greta in that he has enablers and seems to be a true believer. It’s just a sick, sad world.
Beto?
He picked a really stupid gang name. It’s supposed to sound like one of the seven drwarfs. Think, Smilely, Sleepy, that sort of thing.
Drooly?
Well, if you listen to Cheech and Chong’s Christmas skit one of the reindeer is named “Beto”.
He’s no Corn Pop, that’s for sure.
I’m convinced it’s millennial staffers who have no clue.

Will the sensible Republicans save us from Trump?
I think these guys are getting the cart before the horse. They are supposed to confiscate all of the guns before pulling a coup.
I think you might be overestimating the Trumpsters…
That’s a transparent lie if I’ve ever seen one.
I assume you are talking about the Romney staffer? Flake has apparently said something similar.
What makes you say that? Just Curious.
The desire of Senators to be re-elected. It would be electoral suicide.
^This
Well he did say Secret vote. Openly voting to convict is another matter…
No doubt. In fact, the NRCC and NSRC jumped all over this fake impeachment as a fund raising pitch. The sense of betrayal of the base would be enormous.
Based on what I can figure, the Astros would get home field because they have a better interleague record than the Dodgers. They had no head-to-head games this year and their divisions didn’t play each other so that tiebreaker goes out the window too, which takes us to overall interleague record.
Wow, what a way to determine who gets home field in the World Series.
Doesn’t matter. Look at the Twins road record. Gimme something because every other team I like sucks.
The Yankees are gonna be a tough series for them. That tiny little park of theirs is a tough place to play.
They could win a few 9-6 type games. The Twins put runners on and that will keep you in a series. *Not putting money on it.
The Twins will never beat the Yankees in a series. 🙁
What about in parallel?
Although I suspect the Astros will win out and it won’t matter.
Betcha Don Escaped would have a spreadsheet for that.
Better than having the worthless all-star game (which should be done away with, but that’s another issue) decide it.
*Every* all-star game should be done away with but people are greedy.
Which do you prefer, this, the all-star game thing, or the old alternating years? Home field in the Series has always been silly.
I thought the All-Star game determine it? Did they change that?
Yankees will beat the Twins because.
The A’s and Braves look like nice dark horses.
Changed it a few years back.
Prepare for more injured people on the streets of San Francisco.
Recently lime-s in Bucharest reduced the top speed of the scooters from 27 to 24 kph.
One day I found one parked just outside my house as I was leaving for work and found out it takes me 7 minutes to get to the subway by scooter compared to 22 walking.
Homer WOOHOO!
Did you test the h = 1/2 gt^2 formula by tossing it in the river afterwards?
I would be more unbalanced if I tried a scooter. Ban chewing gum and scooters!
I need to apply de-icing cable to my eaves in the next week or two. The pitch isn’t terrible but I have vertigo. I suspect it’s going to be a hands and knees operation for the most part. It’s not even that far to fall but I just don’t bounce the way that I used to…
When my father was about 75 he fell off of a ladder. He was 3 feet off of the ground but shattered his ankle quite badly.
Same, and I was only 42.
The biggest impediment is my pride. I’d rather build some sort of Rube Goldberg device (and have) rather than ask for help from someone else. I’ve got two strapping , young sons-in-law that would be eager to assist but fuck that, I’ll do it myself.
What are the point of sons-in-law if you don’t get them to crawl all over your roof?
Pride. Lion has mange and is a little snaggle-toothed but he’s still a lion for fuck’s sake! I don’t ask help from anyone if I can manage it on my own. Mind you, I might change my tune when I’m stuck halfway down the ladder…
There’s a unique pride to be had saying “Get yr bitch-ass up on muh ruf!”
Bullshit, You aren’t a day over 30.
“or for cab drivers to run them over while not being used”
Here in Richmond people have been dumping them in the canal, river, etc.
It’s a cool idea if 90% of the population weren’t selfish cuntes.
Not even then.
I don’t have any problem with the scooters. Although, once a maroon rode one half in a traffic lane for about four blocks while us big people were driving our big people cars home from our big people jobs. That was irritating. Pretty decent record for as prevalent as they are around here. They look cluttered on sidewalks, but at least they aren’t tents full of drug addicts taking bicycles apart.
I blame the people on the scooters for most of the problems. Of course, they’d be just as dumb and dangerous on (or in) almost any vehicle.
And if you force them onto the sidewalks then they will run down pedestrians. Then the scooter users and cyclists will demand more bike lanes, and they will be joined by people concerned about pedestrian safety. End result – less vehicular lanes, higher taxes, more regulation and government.

So basically he is saying Trump is violating laws that shouldn’t exist so he should be impeached. I’m sure the Democrats will repay the favor.
When has this happened, ever? Judicial review was cooked up by the Federalists to screw over Jeffersonian Republicans while judicial independence was created by Whigs to defeat the Tories.
Knew that was Napolitano before clicking. What drives me nuts about the judge is that he would’ve supported removal of every president of the last half century for violating the constitution. Fair enuff. Just tell people that because it looks like he’s saying he’s using a different standard. I would love for Fox news viewers to hear that all these presidents of both parties have gone rogue.
Nap has it in for Trump because he didn’t get named for the Supreme Court, it’s a grudge
Maybe. I’m willing to believe that him that he’s doing it for principled reasons. His blind spot is how normies will misinterpret his position.
Do I have to RTFA? Ugh…I want to but I am up to my eyeballs in stuff around here. I will come back to it.
It’s judge Nap just listen to this, instead.
https://youtu.be/NP9iOqdxS8c
No. Anything from Mises you can comfortably skip and miss nothing of interest. This goes double for their constitutional interpretations, which can be better summed up here.
Of the major ‘libertarian’ sites they are far an away the best. Cato, Reason and Niskanen aren’t libertarian at all any longer.
Maybe don’t read major libertarian websites since they are all shit? Been working ok for me so far.
Someone pissed in your libertyos this morning huh?
Other than Drake linking to a bunch of depressing stories about cops endangering or killing people in ways that we know aren’t going to get punished or otherwise addressed, no, not particularly.
The effort to secure that meeting began the same day the prosecutor’s firing was announced.
Koinkydink.
I was watching the rerun of the rugby game last night and not football. But I thought they were fixing some of the pass interference rules? Saw a replay of the last play – clearly interference by the Eagles. That isn’t challangable?
Pass Interference? I thought the whole point was to interfere with the other team.
In the last two minutes, it should be reviewed by the booth.
There was another play that LaFleur challenged when an obvious DPI wasn’t called, and they didn’t overturn that either.
I always wondered if they were just helping defenses by ignoring DBs hanging all over receivers and obviously hitting them before the ball arrives, or they are really that blind. I guess we know now.
https://dailycaller.com/2019/09/26/democratic-governor-pressured-local-news-organizations-to-take-down-factually-accurate-story/

IOW, state-approved, narrative-friendly news.

So the Denver Post will be changing its name to the “Denver Opinion”?
It’s not the first time Harper whines about that.
Harper’s a little bitch. Can’t take a little heckling? Go cry in your millions and then fuck your hot wife.
For some reason I thought you were talking about Stephen Harper. 😐

“For one, we’re revising our policies and practices, including those that did not uncover our own reporter’s past inappropriate social media postings. That reporter is no longer with the Register.”
Round and round we go.
The NYT should listen. They have FOUR editors with past racist tweets but they’re all still on the payroll I believe.
What disturbs me more about this story is what these dooshbags are learning in “journalism school” and picking up from the culture in general. What kind of a broken person do you have to be that your first instinct vis-a-vis a heartwarming story about a guy donating millions to Children’s Hospital is to immediately start scouring for wrongthink tweets from when he was a fucking high schooler?
A cynical, damaged person AKA as a Glib? j/k sksksksksks
A VSCO girl would get some guy to climb the ladder for her. and you oop.
I was going to add ‘Thanks Carol for that but you shouldn’t have done it in the first place from a decency perspective.’
Once upon a time boss presented with something like ‘hey, did you know your employee said nigger when he was 15?’ the boss would tell that person to fuck off.
We understood the past was the past and that digging skeletons up is a Pandora’s Box you don’t want to open.
Apparently though this new crop or generation think it’s ok to purge people for their indiscretions in the past to purify the present.
And Trump is the Nazi?
It’s a business opportunity. You guys can write code. Write a program that scours the Web for indiscretions and purges them. Sell it in subscription form. Profit!
Hell we have statutes of limitations and repose because even actual crimes and wrongs shouldn’t be dredged up for ever, much less offensive comments made at 16. Full disclosure I said stupid shit at 16, so did you and by you I mean every person alive.
They don’t want to have another Jeff Epstein situation. If only they’d looked into his background sooner.
And by ‘looked into’, you mean ‘stopped ignoring the flaming warning signs’
Question:
In the very unlikely event that Trump actually gets removed from office, can he run again in 2020 or is he disqualified? I’m pretty sure he’d get reelected in a landslide if that were the case.
Get removed? So what will the dog do when it catches the car?
First off, they’d be stuck with Prez Pence for the next year and change; then if Trump can still run in 2020, people would be so pissed off he’d win huge and probably give the Pachyderms both houses again.
I’m not a Constitutional expert, but I don’t think it says anywhere that successful removal from office precludes someone from running again no?
You are correct. Alcee Hastings was a corrupt federal judge who got caught taking bribe money and was subsequently impeached; which is the only process for removing a federal judge. Once he was out of prison, the good people of Florida saw fit to elect him to congress.
It means nothing unless he’s convicted in the Senate which won’t happen.
That’s what I’m say though; it’s sooper unlikely, but what if he were? Can he run again?
Good question. Martyrs can draw a crowd.
Brian nods from the cross.
That would be EPIC.
The first impeached President to be re-elected in a landslide!
And to make the morons on the left squeak harder like pigs let’s have him while losing the popular vote by a wider margin!
James Traficant ran for Congress from federal prison. After he was expelled by Congress by a vote of 420-1.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/james-a-traficant-jr-colorful-ohio-congressman-expelled-by-house-dies-at-73/2014/09/27/fa98868a-4431-11e4-9a15-137aa0153527_story.html
I always had a soft spot for him. He was a corrupt lefty, but he was entertaining.
Also, I’d love to see him produce a fake birth certificate. “I’m Ronald Rump. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
From Hawaii, right?
I’m 99.9% sure the answer is yes, he can run and sit again. He’s removed from office, not exiled to Elba…
Want the cops to kill your relatives? Have them check on their ‘welfare’.
?
Kick down the door of a fearfull mentaly-ill person? That’s good police work, Lou.
That is some straight-up Geko45 shit. These officer’s know that they are responsible for the death of this woman and are desperate for something, anything, to justify it to themselves and the population.
Or maybe doing a little follow-up work on this.
Found elsewhere:
Ol Dirty Joe scoring kick-back contracts for the hunter and then shutting down the investigation is just the tip of the iceberg. The real story is Soros running the show and putting Obama, Clinton, and Kerry to work staging a big, bloody coup in 2013 and overthrow the Ukrainian government when they decided to bail on the EU. The gas contract was just them collecting their cut of the action for their part in the coup.
That’s just a conspiracy theory. We need to focus on what the CIA agent in the white House is telling us.
If Joe were the media favorite you would here nothing about his dealings , just as they discussed Russia for years without talking about Hillary and the DNC fixing the Primary which is what the Russians exposed. The media wants Lizzie though, so who knows what they might do.
Also just chump-change compared to the 10-figure pay-off the Bidens got from China.
Rumor says someone got paid off for outing the CIA agents undercover in China. Also Biden and Kerry’s son teaming up with Whitey Bulger’s nephew (Bob Mueller says, Hi) to make big time military deals in China
Can you imagine volunteering to be a CIA operative in a place like China today? Sociopaths like the Clintons and Bidens are perfecting willing to sell your life for a few bucks.

Jesus Drake, enough with the nut-punches.
Sorry – I guess they’ve been tenderized enough for one day.
I’m more salty about the fact that these things happened, not that you are posting them. Thanks for the links.
Good God. I’m taking a 10 hour class on DOT HAZMAT transportation regulation compliance today.
Shoot me.
I’m playing hooky so hopefully I’ll be shooting targets later.
I feel ya. Last year I had to renew my lead paint safety certification for two different states, it pretty much took up my whole weekend. Try not to doze off or scream in frustration midway through class. They tend to frown on that for some reason.
Just tell them it was from all the lead exposure. Then if they object, you can sue them under the ADA.
They should schedule those meetings for five successive Friday afternoons.
Pay attention to the safety stuff!
What the fuck were they thinking? Reminds me of this https://youtu.be/-oB6DN5dYWo
True story:
Back in the 80’s, my father rented a forklift to a guy who proceeded to overload it by a factor of two. He counterweighted the back end so it wouldn’t tip.
Wen the load got hung up at about ten feet the guy got off the forklift and proceeded to screw around with the lift chain.
Chain snapped and about 6,000 lbs dropped on his head.
Wasn’t this a Warner Brother’s cartoon?
I’m amazed at the ways people figure out how to do stupid stuff.
The lesson is a little more permanent in real life.
So, why didn’t the guy just make two trips?
Stop shaming me for not having a gun
I’m very thankful I’ve never had to sit through that. Although at my old job I did have to sit through the safety classes for delivery, even though I was in IT. I was at one point tempted to put in for the Steel Toe boot annual expense to get a new pair of Doc Martens though.
10 hour? When did they come up with an abbreviated version?
No one who has sat through a day-long class on reducing implicit bias feels bad for you. This training will be mind-numbing but at least have a chance to be useful.
Do other professions have the one asshole that asks questions at the very end of the day and extends things for 5 minutes? 5 minutes doesn’t seem like much, but after all day in a CLE you best damn well let me leave at the scheduled time.
Yes. That person exists in every environment. They just spawn there fully formed and asking poorly timed, drawn-out questions when everyone else just wants to get out of there.
5 minutes? You guys are lucky. Our biweekly safety meetings are always stretched an extra 1/2 hour by that. We had a guy that would leap to his feet in the middle of a question and say that he’s done here while storming out. I miss that guy.
A room full of lawyers that have been sitting listening to mind numbing CLE lectures for 8 hours contains approximately 100% “that guy” after 5 minutes we are all standing up and walking out.
OSHA rules that you can’t have a class longer than 8.5 hours in a day.
I’m convinced that if the shooting ever does start the chicken coops are going to be the hardest hit.
What Beto said is some serious fucked up shit. It feels like we’re living in a time where history (to the extent we can establish firm historical facts) is perceived to be fluid (ie my truth trumps the fact). Still worse, is the absolute absence of understanding history in context and still even worse not even being aware of history.
The DNC candidates depend on this kind of ignorance from their voters, but it takes another twist when the politicians exhibit profound stupidity and ignorance.
It’s ironic how Pelosi and the Dems yap on about how Trump is pissing on the Constitution, yet, here we have an example of a politician who is completely ignoring the 2A because they feel in the moral right to do so. And they’ve been, to be clear, slowly beginning plotting their assault on the 1A.
When a party has no qualms about making noises calling for confiscating guns and curbing speech, how are they not the enemies of the people?
People get the government they deserver, good and hard.
I’m coming around from skepticism of democracy to Mencken’s outright rejection of it.
Considering Mencken’s ideal anti-democrats were Bismarck and Ludendorff I’m not sure he had the alternative…
Same here. When I see Trudeau neck and neck with the Conservatives, a combo of perplexing baffling astonishment overcomes me.
How in the fucking world can Canadians be this ill-informed and apathetic to STILL THINK this uber-smug, incompetent, corrupt, arrogant, trust-fund Spicoli is fit to serve?
Immigration, Quebec and public schools?
Don’t not include Ontario and the Maritimes in there. Ontario is out to lunch.
The Maritimes are dead ground for the Conservatives. People like free stuff.
Protectionism killed the maritimes only for liberals to kill them even more.
The CBC.
Thank you Mackenzie King…
Maxime should have won that spot. Scheer is a non-entity and doesn’t rile up the base. He’s Canada’s answer to Mittens ie: a go along to get along milquetoast. I’d vote for Michelle Rempel in a heartbeat if she were leading the party.
Milk Lobby loves themselves some protectionism…
My riding is reliably Blue because we are hewers of wood and drawers of water. The problem here is that the Government workforce is steadily gaining on the industrial one. I have four step-kids. The three daughters all work in the bureaucracy in some form and the son is on the dole. This does not bid well for the future.
“My riding is reliably Blue because we are hewers of wood and drawers of water.”

I really don’t like being the “I told you so” guy, Rufus, but who has controlled the education systems for 100 years? The Progs didn’t get control of state mandated education by accident. We’re reaping it now. THAT is how you get politicians uttering inanities and people not throwing ropes over lampposts. THAT is how you get drone-strikes of US citizens w/o due process and the Media backslapping and laughing about it. These are all just symptoms of a disease that started a long time ago. Until state-mandated indoctrination is banished, this is what it will be.

The Constitution is supposed stop BAD MEN like Trump but not to interfere with TOP MEN
It’s funny how history repeats. As with 120 years ago we see how prosperity, technology, faster communications and global trade seems to destroy itself. Why?
Also we shouldn’t be shackled to the hidebound past yet we need to remember certain historical truths. How does that work?

Whistleblower is CIA Officer ‘Detailed to Work at White House’ – And Has Since Returned to the CIA
Seriously WTF?
tEh DeEp StAtE iS tOtEs A mYtH!
I know right. Coup 2.0.
I’ll give the progs credit where it’s due; they don’t give up. Ever.
Like crack heads trying to get that rock.
People who want power have inherent advantages over people who want to live their lives and leave others alone.
I don’t get the whole OMG CIA in the White House outrage, Don’t the CIA and the White House have to talk/work together? Is it really that far fetched to think the CIA may have people assigned to the White House. Did I miss where the guy was outed as a CIA agent actually spying on the White House not just working there in some official capacity. Perhaps I’m just not cynical enough.
I completely agree with your first point that it’s not unusual at all for a CIA Op to be working in the WH. They are an Executive Branch function after all.
It’s the whole “you can keep your job (and probably get promoted) after leaking like a sieve” that annoys me.
Again, I’m only reading headlines and not deep diving but has it been shown the WB did the leaking, I keep hearing he was following protocol and running his complaint up the proper channels, There are plenty of people that could have leaked it.
The whole thing stinks. Looks like he was setting this up through a third party Comey/Fusion GPS style. Leak, get a press story, cite story on your leak as confirmation, get investigation/hearings started.
Is there a name for the learning disorder for those who, instead of disputing the accuracy of the phone call notes, interpret the document to mean what Adam Schiff (D- California 28) said in his opening statement or a variant of that? Is this the same learning disorder that causes so many to interpret the Constitution of the United States of America to allow “Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises” and “borrow[ed] money on the credit of the United States” instead of voluntarily donated money to pay for programs outside of enumerated powers?
Defiantly not Cynical Enough.
Though in our defense… I mean the CIA should be abolished and all the leadership investigated for crimes anyway, And what i’m learning from this Impeachment is that doing the Right thing for the Wrong reasons is totes ok.
It is not as though the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) imposes regulations without consent on those who are not contractors, employees, and vendors of the CIA who choose to live by CIA regs. It would be nice if passengers could choose between flying on TSA-screened and airlines not doing TSA Security Theater.
Maybe you are right and maybe not about charging people at CIA with crimes. Do not overlook the problem that the CIA is funded with involuntary money. Imagine how they would have to change their ways if they had to rely on voluntarily provided donations.
Yeah. “Voluntary”. I see a lot of manila envelopes with incriminating photos, half of it forged, being presented to wealthy individuals. It can all go away for a small “donation.”
Under the current system, do you “see a lot of manila envelopes with incriminating photos, half of it forged, being presented to” Congress for them to vote on the CIA’s budget increases?
1. That sounds like spying to me.
2. That is some really really selective outrage – where was this crusader when Hillary and Hunter were pulling off their capers?
In more seriousness… It will be interesting what facts are forgotten about. I’m usually not one for conspiracy theories, but i think you would agree that in these “investigations” certain data points get out that then never get mentioned again. Now i totally understand the position that the investigators have more knowledge about what is important. But in the case of these political investigations, i’m more inclined to think that the media/politicians are blinded by their own narrative and will ignore anything that contradicts it.
I’m waiting for more details and a little more time for things to shake out.
In and of itself, you’re probably right. I think when you add it to the two adulterers working for the FBI who were actively looking for dirt on Trump, and everything else that has transpired over the last several years for that matter, that’s when becomes a “seriously?” moment.
Also, Also, If a CIA agent told me the Sky was Blue, i’d be suspicious of what his angle was…
The CIA needs to stick with overthrowing foreign govts.
Friendly ones preferably.
Brennan’s lap-dog. It’s ridiculous.
College student faked autism to fend off masturbating dorm invader
Unpack this one, callous assholes.
Must have been LH. He went to Masturbate but as soon as she pulled that offensive stunt, he was out of there.
/ sorry, i couldn’t resist.
Her self-defense strategy was literally to act retarded, which is hella problematic. Then, after her problematic strategy worked she called her mother instead of the police. What was that phone call like?
“Mom, a large black man broke into my dorm room and started masturbating!”
“WHAT!!!! ARE YOU OKAY! WHAT HAPPENED!”
“Calm down I acted like a ‘tard and he left.”
“Call the police, babe.”
“…Are you still doing the act?”
gotta hand it to her…
2 1/2 years. Wow.
The alleged perpetrator’s penis discharged.
Man, Louie C.K. really needs to find a new hobby.
…I meant dressing up in blackface. The jerking off in front of people is totes okay.
Did her screams sound like….REEEEE!
Fun fact: Caro means love in Italian.
“acting, she said, as if she suffered from a form of autism”
Hawt.
I love those retards. Hey is there something in your hair?

People do not need to be well-behaved in order to deserve a roof over their heads and to be able to see a doctor when they are ill. If you find that you cannot do the job you have been hired to do, I’d encourage you to look for employment elsewhere.
And isn’t that what all public assistance is?
“Deserve”….as William Munny once said, “Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.”
“Just deny reality.”
People do not need to be well-behaved in order to deserve a roof over their heads and to be able to see a doctor when they are ill.
This is enablement, not charity. A huge benefit of private charity is that I can say “fuck you, you don’t get my money” if you decide to be an irresponsible idiot.
People do not need to be well-behaved in order to deserve a roof over their heads and to be able to see a doctor when they are ill.
No one deserves anything other than the liberty to make their own choices and take the natural consequences simply because they exist. Deserving things beyond that depends on what choices you make. Some people do in fact deserve to live in a gutter.
How the Bowl Cut Became a White Supremacist Symbol
Be on the lookout, team! Stay safe out there.
What is not a white supremacist symbol?
Your mom’s vagina.
TROLL!!!
no you!
Going classy by calling it a “vagina”. It’s all in the contrast, eh?
I guess you’d prefer “love culvert.”
For the runoff? Dude…
Perhaps we should get supporting Greta Thunberg turned into a “white supremacy symbol”.
Wait until she is politically inexpedient…
Or forgotten in a year’s time.
I blame Oliver Cromwell.
Damnable Roundheads!
Chilling!!
Beware of any man who is a Three Stooges fan. His blood cells are little swastikas.
Mark Davis has a sadz.
All the white supremacists have to do is claim something and the rest of us have to avoid it like the plague? That’s giving them too much power and I’m not going to do it.
This. The ADL is a collection of little bitches.
The white supremacists don’t claim these things, some bored teen on 4 chan does it for the lulz.
Lloyd Christmas hardest hit.
Yeah, the bowl cut is ugly af. Nobody looks good in one. And you always wonder whether it was an ill-advised home cut.
nonsense I look gorgeous in it
Looks OK on Rihanna. Of course, anything would look OK on Rihanna.

You forgot Wilford Brimley on the birthday list. He turns 85.
And this singer turns 61 today.
Good for Brimley, I’m glad the diabeetus hasn’t gotten him yet.
The funny thing about that – it means Wilford Brimley was only 51 in Cocoon! Jeez, he fit right in with Hume Cronyn and Don Ameche, who were 25 or so years older.
I have the 45 of that song.
Oh God. My best friend had a little sister that was into Tiger Beat. Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett festooned walls and the music…Oh God the music… *thousand yard stare*
I had the Shaun Cassidy hair.
Back when I had enough hair to pull that style off.
Mine grows out curly so the experiment with that style was… unfortunate.
So does he want cake for his birthday?
The biggest beauty trends of the year, from vaginal steaming to dermaplaning
My goodness.
Steaming just makes sense. If you boil your vagina, it just becomes tough and rubbery.
Legit Larf!
Vaginas should be heated from within
Glibertarian dilemma – it appears my next door neighbors had their water cut off, presumably for nonpayment. I know this because I heard one side of a phone convo between the adult male and an unknown person where he said the water had been cut off and he had to go offsite to shower. There are six people living in that house — three adults and three children ranging 10-17 (estimated ages). I am loathe to call child protective services on them but things got to be getting pretty stinky over there even if they mostly manage to shit and shower offsite. Were they better neighbors I would certainly offer to setup a hose so they could fill buckets for wash and flush water, but they are shit neighbors. I have had to spend hundreds of dollars and hours of my own time to trim their vines and trash shrubs away from my property line. They keep an open trash (not garbage, but still) pile which is also a mosquito farm.
My threshold for calling CPS would be welts and screams, which is not the case here. As tempting as it is to use administrative process for personal gain, I’m not that person. Looks like their life is melting down anyway and hopefully they will move soon.
You’re on the right track, don’t be a rat.
My wife works at the Northside Y. They have at least a few families that do all of their bathing there. A couple of them are straight up homeless, but at least one had the water shut off like this.
Thanks. Assuming at least the two teenagers can shower at school as part of gym class? They still do that?
Also, I believe the two teenagers are from someone’s previous marriage so they have their other biological parents who I hope will take them in at least temporarily.
These people have a support network. They also smoke weed so someone isn’t prioritizing.
Bong water baths for everyone!
I….don’t know, actually. My son just started middle school this year, so I suppose I *should* know if he showers at school.
I can’t swear that every Y in town is run the same way, but Northside really tries to help families in trouble. Hopefully those kids’ other family members can lend them a hand, as you suggested.
Some kids really are born with two strikes against them merely because of the random misfortune of having terrible parents.
I am sure it is possible to shower at school but almost no one does.
I’m in Lakeside, so they are near Northside YMCA. Yes, the YMCA as an organization really does a good job about that. It’s not just a gay disco bath house.
It’s not just a gay disco bath house.
Why does this disappoint me?
I thought you lived up that way, yeah
They can actually cut off your water? I don’t believe in positive rights, but you’d think this would be one that would almost be defensible.
Apparently, yes. Although I would suspect that CPS could get it turned on again through some type of emergency order.
I know that during the winter months the electric (private) and gas (government) utilities are very careful about not cutting off power or gas to anyone who is struggling; there is also an EnergyShare program to which you can donate when paying your electric bill; this pays the electric bills for poor people.
You’d think they’d figure out how the govt can guarantee fucking water supply before going with Yang’s thousand bucks a month.
You’d think they’d figure out how the govt can guarantee fucking water supply before going with Yang’s thousand bucks a month.
The thing is, guaranteeing water would actually risk being more expensive than Yang’s absurd plan. Water systems are expensive to build and have some cost to maintain, and they have a limited capacity. The water use has to be limited in some way, and has to be paid for in some way. If everyone’s water was paid for by the government, then they would have to come up with some method of physically limiting the amount that could be used per unit of time (probably day), which would add even more expense into the system and be ripe for abuse. Cutting off water for non-payment is probably the least bad way to guarantee that the water supply system keeps working.
I was about to say that offering the water would be nice on your part, and that if they moved you’d feel good about it. But then i thought about who knows how long they will be gone, and they sound like the kind of people to take advantage of your kindnes (i.e not care about getting water turned back on because they can just come over and take yours whenever they want.)
Had they been better neighbors, yes. But it really comes down to marginally functional adults not stepping up to the plate.
If they were better neighbors, their water wouldn’t have been cut off. These things are not unrelated.
(Still pissed from the comments on Slate I read yesterday. (See the link in comment 31 above.))
Those are, predictably, a total shit-show.
Right? I grew up with minimal interaction with the poor/criminal side of my family, but it was clear to me even as a child that their choices brought about most of their misery.
^This. I have earned the vast majority of the pain I’ve experienced. and pretty much all of the financial pain.
This! I’ve been thinking about this concept a lot. But can’t find a name for it.
I wouldn’t.
Let them sort it out. Only do so in an extreme case and that you know for a fact kids are in actual danger. That they can’t use the shower ain’t one of them; even if you think your neighbours suck.
Don’t snitch.
No, I’m not going to snitch.
Sounds like it’s already a giant snowball. No need to nudge it downhill for a little personal satisfaction. They’re miserable, no need to get that stank on your own psyche.
^This.
Roaches don’t respect property lines. It’s only a matter of time till you’re posting about an infestation.
Williamson’s take on impeachment. I don’t necessarily agree that they’ll ever think their methods are a bad idea. They have to keep their base perpetually angry or they might start thinking instead if feeling.
https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/09/trump-impeachment-inquiry-democrats-refuse-to-accept-republican-electoral-victory/
I had very similar thoughts this morning, stemming in part, from an interview that Kamala Harris gave about it. She was talking about how trump needed to be removed, all the members of his admin needed to be removed etc.
Now i understand where she and other Dems are coming from. Politics is just jockeying for power, and arguing to get rid of Trump only for him to be replaced by Pence isn’t enough. Everyone associated with a republican admin needs to be gutted. But i honestly don’t think they realize that this comes off as partisan warfare. What happens if Trump is removed? Do they think that the part of the American Electorate that preferred him to Hillary are going to see that as legitimate? I think many of this new crop of democratic politicians (Kamala especially) have forgotten that the appearance of legitimacy is extremely important to any democratic system. As that gets more and more worn down, the stabilizing benefits of a democratic system will be lost.
Pence is also easier to run against than Trump.
Any actual politician is easier to run against than Trump. Part of why the Dems flounder so badly in opposing him is that he’s completely unpredictable.
For all his buffoonery and silly bluster, he’s pretty clever and conniving. I’m not one of the “8th dimension chess!” proponents, but I do think he’s much more skilled at working the public than his enemies are.
I think it is less him being skilled and more that he is unpredictable and shameless.
I think it’s more that the rules of the game changed and they haven’t figured it out yet. The go-to playbook of impugning character or reeeing “nazi” in the papers or intertoobs doesn’t work on him like it does on Ryan and Romney.
Pretty much, yeah. The GOP playbook since time immemorial was to apologize and grovel whenever some bullshit PC accusation was made. Trump simply doesn’t give a fuck, never apologizes for anything, and plows right on along.
It works for him largely because he had an already established public image. People’s minds were already largely made up on Donald Trump long before he ran for office. Other politicians don’t have that, and I don’t know that the Trump style (or even a kinder, gentler version where the guy isn’t constantly antagonistic but still doesn’t apologize) would work for anyone else.
This. Trump has walked a lot of tightropes and come out on top. He’s not stupid. There’s a reason why his political enemies keep landing face down in the mud.
They’re too authoritarian and arrogant to consider that unseen but critical component of democracy. They hold the electorate in too much contempt to care for that. Naked, brute power is their aphrodisiac.
They’re so far removed from Joe Lunchpail and Sally Housecoat that they are still (STILL) sending out cub reporters on “Rednecks in the Mist” missions. They have learned nothing from their humiliating defeat in 2016 and they don’t want to start now.
As that gets more and more worn down, the stabilizing benefits of a democratic system will be lost.
“Oh nooooo, how could this happen.”
Scott Adams’ 7 Stages of Trump Derangement Grief
1. Story is shocking but has only Anonymous sources .
2. Story is softened. Not as bad as was said at first.
3. The discovery that the item is not not illegal and is in fact normal
4. Wheel out Carl Bernstein: “Worse than Watergate!”
5. Bring in Mitt Romney to show a Republican is “concerned.”
6. New shiny is introduced as story dulls. Ooops, nothing here. Look over here.
7. They admit all the facts say it didn’t happen, but it did! Honest Injun!
Mitt Romney reminds me why i didn’t vote last election. Because it was a forgone conclusion that he would win the senator seat. What could i do to stop it? I’m surrounded by morons.
The contrast between the way the NYT described Mitt Romney in 2012 and the way they describe him now is hilarious.

The cautionary tale of Japan’s “sex recession”
Send them the Mexicans!
And that’s bad?” Maybe they can make their hotel rooms normal size? And not cram commuters into trains?
Having women pressed into you like that isn’t as much of a turn as one would think.
First, why does Japan need to maintain a population of 120 million or more? Fix your damn pyramid pension scheme and let people have more space. Second, my pet theory is that Japanese men had their libido ruined by looking at big titty foreign women.
Q hates the Japanese?
It’s the anime what dun it, I tells ye!
My cursory investigation into Jav porn indicates there are lots of big tiddy Japanese women.
Needs more research though.
too many pixels.
Herbivore men.
One of my good Japanese friends, a married woman in her 50s, introduced me to this word. She doesn’t keep up with Japanese popular culture so if she knows it, everyone knows it.
MGTOW Japanese style?
Yes, but not as political about it. Just sort of noped out at the idea of romantic relationships, but I don’t think they consciously avoid all interactions with women.
I dunno. I’m thinking more pajama boy.
Is it MGTOW if the women just don’t want them?
MGTOW is more about rejecting women because you’ve been hurt yourself. Incel is “I want women, but not the ones that I could realistically get.”
MGTOW catch a lot of shit because critics want so badly to lump them in with incels, but it really is no different than a woman who swears off men after a bad relationship, who is often seen as brave and empowered.
“a woman who swears off men after a bad relationship, who is often seen as brave and empowered.”
Said the fish as it rode away on its bicycle.
+1 David Bale, Bicycle.
Also, Christian Bale is Steinem’s stepson.
I could write an article explaining all the issues which had led to this situation – most of it is personal observation but a lot is current reality for urban Japan.
Primarily it’s a lack of reliable opportunity to make enough to raise a family plus lack of motivation to give up one’s hobbies for some woman and unknown kids.
Sorry – plus availability of porn and purchased sexual services.
There is a Glib article I’d read!
“Unknown kids” meaning she already has some from a previous marriage or ones he will be expected to make?
Mr. Mojeaux was looking for someone who did not already have kids. Those were rare as hen’s teeth when he started looking for a wife.
“Unknown kids” being what may or may not happen after casting one’s lot with some woman chosen primarily to continue the family line and make one’s parents happy – possibly a woman one might love on some level.
So Q’s to blame?
I am willing to volunteer my services in Japan’s hour of need. I think many others are as well.

Hey LiberTARDians, do you still hate regulated markets?
I guess we were wrong. A company would Poison their customers. Too bad they have Sovereign Immunity, so you cant do shit about it…. Oh wait that was something else.
Prohibition is a form of regulation.
In an unregulated market you’d have companies like Bayer and Altria (fka Phillip Morris) touting the safety and purity of their products, going after counterfeiters, etc. And I’d be damn sure to buy my product at a reputable chain store to further protect myself against counterfeit product.
…you’d have companies like Bayer and Altria (fka Phillip Morris) touting the safety and purity of their products…
Indeed. Those old cigarette commercials are kind of funny to watch with how much they boast about how much better (healthier! smoother! better flavor!) their cigarettes are than their competitors.

A good morning to you, Sloopy, and to your assorted Rude Boys and Girls!
Damn, I’m glad it’s Friday. This has been a bastard of a week.
It makes me feel really goddamn old that London Calling is 40 years old. It’s still brilliant and that’s my favorite song from the album.
This one is solid, too.
Here’s a cool story about the cover photo.
Perfection happens in weird ways. I really dig the un-cropped pic. I think I’ll look for a print for my office…
Make it a great day, people! You’ve earned it.
When two tools need to communicate and you make some specifications for how the format of the messages should be, nice clear documents with the precise formatting down to every space and dot, why is it so goddamn hard to respect those specs? I don’t get it.
it is not even goddamn close

Jesus this guy helped give us the CBC and “free” healthcare. One of the great monsters of history.
Oh and his mentor was an avid free-trader. Oh joy…
Clearly his Free-Trade ideology also informed him on why we need free healthcare.
Turdeau jr. supports NAFTA and free healthcare.
I am just pointing out how for the last 100 years there have been plenty of free traders with very statist economics…
I would bet that most of those statists also thought murdering children was wrong too.
War, Abortion and eugenics?
Plenty of statists have opposed those too. I don’t get the angle you are coming from? If it’s Free Trade is bad because bad people liked it, that’s silly. If it’s you can’t trust everyone who talks about free trade, because some have had bad ideas on other things, that is kind of a given. But it seems to be that you are saying that if someone doesn’t agree 100% then they aren’t worth taking the good parts from them.
So please enlighten us more on what you are getting at, because i honestly don’t get it.
This. Also I’m ragging on AIER and the cosmos would never write an article saying that Jefferson Davis, Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt were somewhat libertarianish because of their views on tariffs.
Winston, your posts don’t bother me and I get where you are coming from, but they do sound odd here. At TOS they made sense and served a need because you did in fact have a loud contingent of cosmos constantly braying about libertarian moments whenever some horrible wannabe commie happened to say something that sounded faintly libertarianish on any issue, but the people here whose tastes lean toward the left are not cosmos, nor are they saying those sort of things. This makes your sarcasm sound a bit tone deaf.
You make a snarky comment like “Oh yeah Commie X said we should legalize weed, so they must be a true libertarian cause pot, ass sex and Mexicans right guys!” But the problem is that no one hearing you thinks anything of the sort, and in fact we all largely agree with your cynicism, so the challenging tone puts people off.
City bans calling someone an ‘illegal alien’ out of hate
Sweet.
Knowingly passing laws that clearly violate the First Amendment. This is totally fine, because it’s woke
When I call politicians “statist shits,” I’m strictly motivated by love.

They just watched this week’s South Park and are trying to stop all the little Cartmans from sending too many people to the camps.
And stop Mexican Joker from being created.
I used to watch Faces of Death, and I did think it was real. I hadn’t thought about it much over the years, so I have been thinking it was real this whole time. Oh well, at least we still have professional wrestling.

Awesome, Kevin!
All the best, dude. I hope you knock it out of the park!
sadly you cant slap the hottest woman on the ass as you walk out as you still work with them
Cool! I worked in a tiny office with a guy that crunched his 2:00 Doritos every day for three years. Small enclosed space in a warehouse. You can imagine the smell with the door closed and no ventilation. Sometimes I just wanted to straight up murder that fucker, especially on Mondays.
Yep. Every day around noon, it’s granola bars.

JFC. 300 men and boys are freed from ‘house of torture’ Islamic boarding school where they were chained up, raped by staff and starved ‘in the name of teaching them the Koran’ in Nigeria
Why are you sending this when there are Christian schools in America that won’t let transgender people use the washroom that corresponds with the gender that they’ve chosen?
Islamaphobia much?
Sounds a bit like American prisons. Boom.
Yeah, what is it with islamists and forcible rape? Particularly the sodomy which they are totally against when anyone else does it.
See, it’s not gay if it’s rape.
…they were chained up, raped by staff and starved ‘in the name of teaching them the Koran’
I’m pretty sure the Koran forbids at least two of those three things. Teachers of the year, right there.
Depends, were they infidels?
The 5 feet of concertina coils above the entrance just scream “happy school kids inside” don’t they?
I have to say, I may have to join Just Sayn on Team Tulsi. Despite her horrible economic beliefs, she is the only candidate for president who seems like a decent, normal human being.
If only someone could get through to her on the notion that more government is not the solution to problems.
Tulsi is more libertarian than Gary Johnson and I fear that she will be more libertarian than the new pro-intelligence community Justin Amash
“If only someone could get through to her on the notion that more government is not the solution to problems.”
I actually think that the party that claims to oppose expansive government should learn this way before a Democrat does, but that’s the bizarre world we live in.
There is a long history of pacifists with awful views, free traders with awful views, liberals with awful views and Social justice advocates with awful views.
Cool story.
But, Tulsi:
(1) Did not support or believe in Russia Fever Dreams, rightly pointing out that the allegation was nonsensical and was being pushed by an intelligence community that wanted to get us more deeply involved in Ukraine
(2) Tulsi rebuked her Democratic colleagues in the Senate for imposing a religious test on judicial nominees
(3) Tulsi has been consistent in her opposition to the Patriot Act and foreign intervention even under a Democratic president
(4) Tulsi’s brain was not broken by Trump’s election
On every single one of those points, she is leaps and bounds more on the side of less government, whereas LP leadership along with cosmo publication have been squarely on the side of more government
And she’s been highly skeptical of Russian Fever Dreams 2 – Ukrainian Boogaloo.
I think there’s a possibility that she runs for the Green Party and I will vote for her. I frankly respect the Green Party more than the LP, because at least you know what they stand for and they’re not changing because of new fads.
Obligatory: “Fucking watermelons”
LP and the cosmos are at worst sellouts or at best naiive in assuming their Trump-bashing will save them from being labeled Nazis.
I did post in this thread how Jared Polis repaid the Kochs for favorable coverage in Reason by attacking them.
Because it was broke already?
They don’t oppose expansive government. They’re just liars.
You would think, right?
Man, I remember those halcyon college days when I seriously believed that anyone in the GOP actually gave a shit about limiting government. Those were the salad days, man.
I’m gonna say that you are overplaying your hand a bit there. I like Tulsi’s anti-foreign-intervention stance, but being anti-war does not make you libertarian. I’ll gladly stand alongside anyone who is against war when the war issue comes up, but I’m not going to say “one of us” on the other issues. Gary Johnson had his flaws, and he made some poor campaign choices, but let’s not mix him up with Bill “Hang Him High” Weld.
Gary Johnson:
(1) Supported US efforts to hunt down Kony in Africa (no joke, he received praise from the Weekly Standard for his endorsement of ‘humanitarian intervention’ overseas in 2012)
(2) Johnson supported expansion of protected class status and opposed religious liberty (which historically has been the only method that more liberty has been granted to everyone- see ‘homeschooling’; see ‘not having to recite the pledge of allegiance’; see ‘opting out of military service’, see ‘free speech expansion’, to name a few)
(3) Johnson supported a “carbon tax”
(4) Johnson supported mandatory vaccines
In all honesty, what about Johnson’s entire campaigns in 2012 and 2016 would ever give a hint that he was suppose to be the “less government” candidate?
Jesus.
Tulsi:
1. Bring back Glass-Steagall
2. Raise min wage
3. Mandatory parental/family leave
4. Free college
5. 50/50 on reparations
6. Eliminate electoral college
7. Hates nuclear energy
8. Will not sleep with you for saying she is more libertarian than Gary Johnson
8’s a deal breaker for me.
Imagine believing that Johnson wouldn’t just “evolve” on these issues when he’s changed his mind about everything else.
You know where Tulsi stands. I cannot say the same for Gay Jay
Given the way Obama’s foreign policy “evolved” from GTFO of Iraq and don’t do stupid shit to fighting 7 undeclared wars?
You know where Tulsi stands.
#libertarianmoment
This message brought to you by the Tulsi Gabbard for President committee.
New slogan “I fill my yoga pants with sweet peace love IYKWIMAITYD”
Well, when you put it THAT way…….
The claim was that Tulsi was more Libertarian that Gary johnson. So cool you’ve labeled a few policies that GJ had that were not the libertarian stance. You still haven’t shown how Tulsi is some how better than GJ. Tulsi is totally okay with the warfare state, just as long as it’s not about Regime Change. she thinks intervention in Somalia is A-OK because we have to go for Al-Queda. So her 1 redeeming quality is not even that pure. She thinks healthcare should be nationalized. She thinks Student Debt should be forgiven. She clearly hasn’t given any crap about the Deficit of the National Debt.
1) Did not support or believe in Russia Fever Dreams, rightly pointing out that the allegation was nonsensical and was being pushed by an intelligence community that wanted to get us more deeply involved in Ukraine
“she thinks intervention in Somalia is A-OK because we have to go for Al-Queda”
Don’t you think drone strikes against Al Qaeda in Somalia still makes a lot more sense than hunting down Kony in Africa for lolz?
Guess who wanted to hunt down Kony for “humanitarian” reasons?
On every single one of those points, she is leaps and bounds more on the side of less government, whereas LP leadership along with cosmo publication have been squarely on the side of more government
I’m not trying to sound like an Ass, but i’m not letting you shift these goalpoasts. The claim was she was better than GJ not Nick “i’ll vote for Dick Cheny” Sarwak.
regarding the points you bring up in defense of her being “libertarian” (at least more so than GJ)
1) Plenty of Republicans also didn’t go for it, and i commend them and her for being levelheaded. It has little bearing on their ideology and views of the state and it’s proper role in society.
2.) I’ll Give you that. Good on Tulsi, she defended a basic principle of American Politics since the 1780’s
3.) Probably the best of the 4 points you bring up.
4.) This has nothing to do with being a libertarian, seeing as many Libertarians did have their brains broken by it (see Judge Nap)
The age old battle between the “Everything is awesome cuz I got new gizmos” faction and “what about slavery/lynchings/Nam?” faction
We all know she’s not going to get on the ticket, let alone get the nomination. It will end up as Trump vs Harris or Warren. There’s a longshot it might be Pence vs one of those.
It will be Warren and Trump will be the Republican nominee.
Of course not, this year anyway. However, despite my longstanding and intense loathing for the Democratic Party,it would benefit us all if someone who wasn’t a power-mad Marxist lunatic rose to a position of influence in that party.
That train left the station in 2007, Son.
You’re off by at least 100 years.
William Jennings Bryan is when the Dems went downhill…
Andrew Jackson
I am still not sure how genuine the anti war thing is with her. But as a public persona yes, she is above the rest of the field, although that’s not saying much
She’s Puuurdy”
She spearheaded efforts to stop the war in Syria under Obama, along with spearheading efforts to end our support for Saudi Arabia’s Yemeni war under Obama, and she spearheaded efforts to rebuke the Obama administration for its Libya intervention. Not to mention that she took the lead in trying to repeal the Patriot Act under Obama and supported Rand’s filibuster over the administration’s drone program.
The notion that her positions are opportunistic would be to ignore her entire career in Congress
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/05/06/ron_paul_tulsi_gabbard_best_presidential_candidate_good_on_foreign_policy.html
Don’t take my word for it, the old man likes her too
Fundamentally, I think this is a question of which is more important, domestic spending or foreign wars. There’s no candidate that proposes to end both, so how do you choose?
Split the difference, have a domestic war.
Dems are doing their best to make that happen.
Yeah, I get what Paul’s saying here but I’m not going to vote for someone who’s going to increase oppression on me.
Let’s have a war, jack up the Dow Jones,
Let’s have a war, we could start in New Jersey,
Let’s have a war, blame it on the middle class,
Let’s have a war, we’re like rats in a cage
Actually, I don’t think there’s a single one that proposes to reduce domestic spending on either side of the party line.
^ THIS
If there was a candidate who was talking about reducing domestic spending then this would be a harder choice. As it stands you’re not going to get that out of the LP nominee, unless the LP becomes a party of principles again (which ain’t happening any time soon).
Ann Coulter once said on Stossel something along the lines of libertarians are full of shit, because they’ll emphasize how important it is to legalize marijuana, but they’ll never lead with their opposition to all gun control or the need to eliminate welfare programs. This was like in 2010 and the audience laughed at her, but even Stossel now says that her point actually had a lot of merit to it.
I hate to say it, but Coulter is right on that point. And it’s exceptionally difficult now to argue that she wasn’t
Not voting might be the best choice.
I do think more places should offer a “None of the Above” option so that we can at least get a handle on how much non-voting is due to disgust vs apathy.
Domestic spending would not be possible without the foreign wars. The welfare/warfare state is intrinsically linked, but only our foreign intervention allows us to avoid the cost of our welfare state by keeping interest rates low, allowing for greater and greater debt borrowing.
I’m not saying that the domestic spending is not important. In some ways it’s more important, but it’s impossible to have a reckoning on domestic spending without correcting the foreign policy that makes the spending possible.
At the end of the day, she supports ending the foreign wars. There are exactly zero candidates who support reducing domestic spending. If there was a candidate who was talking about dismantling the domestic welfare state then this would be a harder choice, but no candidate like that exists
Plenty of welfare states out there that aren’t warfare states.
That is true Dean. Also classical liberalism was dead in the US and Britain even before WWI. And our current socialist/watermelon moment seems to caused by internal forces rather than by foreign ones.
Somewhat related, Remember when Ron Paul hinted that he preferred Jill Steyn over GJ, and people lost their shit because he wasn’t supporting the LP candidate.
They also lost their shit when he endorsed the Constitution Party candidate over LP nominee Bob Barr. He was right then and he’s right now.
If you vote for Tulsi to make a protest that is a reasonable choice. If you vote for her because she is anti-war and you regard that as the most important single issue, I can respect that, but I think it is a naive position (not because these wars make sense or are in any way other than evil, but because I think they will happen with or without us). I agree that there are no candidates running who take good positions on any of the actually important issues, but we are sliding down the maw of the Sarlac here and I am voting for the candidates I think will slow the slide or at least not accelerate it as much.
If you like TG on policy, yo may also want to consider Delaney, Williamson, and Yang.
On personality, do not see how TG is the “only” when John Delaney is also in the race.
Disclaimer: Tallest midget situation. And that includes Trump, Weld, and the others running on the R side as well as those running D.
So you’re tired of having guns and money?
This is entirely the wrong format for me to argue my point. I’m going to write an article, have the editors here reject it, and then post it here so you can all denounce me in real time.
Deal?
Also, let me trigger everyone by saying two indisputable facts:
(1) Trump has passed more gun control than Obama could have ever dreamed
(2) Obama started more wars in his first term than Trump
Only partisans can sell out their alleged principles enough to change anything.
I’ve said #1 plenty of times.
I’ve been asking you to write that articles for months. Do it!
She’s anti gun and pro GND. Two deal killers is one more than I need.
Now that I’ve got a real keyboard:
I am genuinely interested in a pro-Tulsi article. I think it would most interesting if we cut to the chase:
(1) Stipulate that she is the best of the Dem field. I don’t think you’d get much objection from this lot.
(2) Not waste pixels comparing her to fringe candidates or candidates that aren’t running.
(3) Make it about why libertarians should vote for her over Trump in the general, rather than going to the “they all suck I ain’t voting”. Which is a legit position, but if your argument supporting a candidate ends there, its not really enough support to be interesting.
Or we could just wait for someone over at TOS to write that article for us.
TGA’s article would be 1000x better and more honest than anything from over there.
I’d rather have an intelligent and intellectually honest article, though.
I’ll even offer to help Apologist with it. Send a draft to me and I’ll play Devil’s Advocate, try to sharpen it up. We’re all prone to double standards and goalpost shifting when we are arguing for something. This is the kind of thing I’ve done professionally my whole career; any competent lawyer should be able to put together the best argument for the opposition.
She has definite virtues, no doubt. I just don’t think they can overcome her flaws, for me. But I haven’t paid all that much attention other than confirming her support for gun control and the Green New Deal.
TOS hates Tulsi.
Neocons don’t like antiwar candidates. They’ve already written hit pieces against her. Why do we keep pretending?
@both
Oh, I know. I was just riffing on the fact that they will definitely write one.
@RC Dean
I don’t think I’ve ever shifted goal posts or been dishonest in my arguments on behalf of Tulsi.
This is really just rooted in a divide that is only growing wider within the larger libertarian movement. One side is a little more comfortable with the warfare state while the other one thinks its the most offensive action taken by big government.
This is old stuff. It goes back to Rothbard breaking with the Kochs. I’m not disagreeing with your criticisms, I’m arguing that all things considered she’s still better than any candidate running.
I’ll write the article. I doubt they’ll publish it. But, I’ll paste it in the comments regardless. And then you can criticize. I’m not thin skinned. If you want to tear it apart, I’m not going to get offended.
I don’t think I’ve ever shifted goal posts or been dishonest in my arguments on behalf of Tulsi.
Not that I’ve noticed. I’m just saying that having a critical good faith reader can help any argument.
I’ll write the article. I doubt they’ll publish it.
Seriously? I’d be genuinely shocked if they refused.
I don’t think I’ve ever shifted goal posts or been dishonest in my arguments on behalf of Tulsi.
I said i wasn’t trying to be an Ass, and maybe the turn of the phrase wasn’t the best. I think you are very honest in your arguments (see above), i just wanted to make the point about what the discussion was about. I didn’t mean to offend.
I’m going to write an article, have the editors here reject it,
I can’t imagine it would get rejected. If nothing else it could serve as another pin for more OT comments. And if it does get rejected, just add more Lovecraftian horror elements and resubmit, and you should be fine.
What makes you think they would reject it? That seemed an uncalled for shot. You are taking a contrarian position and are being argued with by other commentators, TPTB are pretty damn willing, hell eager, to have articles that spur debate.
It seems like half of this site is lawyers, guns, and money.
I saw Warren at First Avenue in Minneapolis a few weeks before he died. He still rocked even though his body was failing him.
I haven’t ignored your reply, I’m just having trouble coming up with a response.
WHERE ARE MY LAWYERS, DAMMIT?!
You can’t have guns and money without lawyers.
Mr Dean is a Lawyer.
That’s part of the joke. It was funnier in my head.
I was distracted by my amusement that we not only linked the same song, but the same video of it.
Well if you buy property, borrow money, set up an LLC or enter any other contract in Ohio I’ll be happy to vet documents for you. But if you are hiding in Honduras all I can offer is moral support.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/sep/27/the-greta-thunberg-problem-so-many-men-freaking-out-about-the-tiny-swedish-climate-demon
I wouldn’t give a shit about Thunberg except that our betters seem determined to create policy based on her prescriptions.
Post this again just for the reaction. A few glibs thought it was unfair. I didn’t, but I’ll listen if someone has a case to be made against it.
I don’t think it’s unfair at all. That is exactly what the practical result of what the watermelons preach is – condemning the poor to stay poor for the sake of Mother Gaia.
Same reason the Europeans lean heavily on Africans to farm “organically”. They’ll never feed themselves that way.
I’d argue against it from the standpoint that there are plenty of unambiguously legitimate avenues of criticism to take with her and this isn’t one of them. It is clever though.
It’s crude and in your face, but I’d say it is “unambiguously legitimate”. She framed it in terms of economic growth vs global warming. That economic growth saved a lot of lives. The picture is attacking her position not her the person.
Yes. It’s undoubtedly nasty and bare-knuckles, but not illegitimate from my perspective.
“Nasty and bare knuckles”. Which is why I’m asking for feedback because I’ll always defer to that kind of shit. It makes me laugh. Doesn’t mean I’m not a prick.
I’ll second Chipwooder here. It does come across as rather harsh, but there is a strong argument behind it – namely that she is enjoying the fruits of what she condemns while her philosophy would condemn everyone to a life more akin to what the poor kids in the window face.
It is unfair, but that doesn’t mean that is isn’t amusing.
She’s become more than a person. She’s become the face of a movement. It’s gloves off as far as I can see. Fuck her and her deranged enablers.
They played the same rope-a-dope they did with AOC.
Left Media: Praise, praise, praise, she’s a goddess, she’s the smart EVAR, she’s going to save us all.
Right Media: She’s kind of annoying.
Left Media: OMG YOUR SO OBSESSED WITH HER! YOUR SEXISTS!!!
I posted my objection last night. It is using photoshop to shame her for eating lunch. No one should be shamed for eating lunch. Not even Hitler. I think the RHEEEEEE stuff it completely fair, she did in fact have a melt down, but she has not to my knowledge scarfed down a meal in front of starving kids with an unconcerned look on her face. She has an unconcerned look on her face because she is contentedly eating lunch on a train. As I said last night this idea of anything goes against the ‘enemy’ is how you get antifa and I reject that.
HOW DARE YOU ATTACK AN AUTISTIC CHILD!!!
The Guardian. Disregards.
Well it is almost five, time to leave work. Be back from the old home computer
That’s Pie’s polite way of flouncing out of Glibs.
Naw, he’s just saying he’s going to start drinking.

Choose military time or not. Or are you mixing in months there?
all my clocks are 24 hour. I am used to it this way, although not when speaking.
Back. SO what did I miss.
Those comments are four minutes apart.
I now envision Pie working in his garden shed, and his commute home is walking in his house door.
Neah I work in the spare bedroom on work from home days. I switched off the work laptop, took a piss and poured a glass of wine and moved to the recliner in the living room
^ correct answer
Darn day job is going to make me late to the literary thread.
We have a literary thread?? Is “What We’re Reading” due up today?
That’s what the coming attractions article announced.
And it is the last friday of the month.
A couple of principled leftists (yes they do exist), Jimmy Dore and Aaron Mate, discuss the Ukraine and Trump stuff:
https://youtu.be/N1BsWtp1d6w
It’s long at 54 min but it’s very informative for anyone who’s interested in getting up to speed on what’s going on.
Jimmy Dore is the perfect person to listen to for a person with my beliefs. I agree with him up to a point and then *boom* he goes full statist. When he’s attacking the people I hate, the snarky shit is funny and clever, but then he’ll continue the smarmy and snarky routine as he attacks people I agree with. It’s a good lesson in how not to persuade people who you disagree with.
I like the smarmy snark but, you’re right, I don’t think he’s changing many minds.
It’s the same with Molyneaux.
Molyneaux is an embarrassment and has a negative impact on anything he discusses.
He comes across as creepy to me.
Yeah. I don’t like him. I don’t need to listen for twenty minutes of condescending bullshit to get to the kernel of the argument. Spit it out, fer fuck’s sake!
Have you seen him wearing Lipstick? It makes you never want to see anyone in lipstick again…
It’s that fucking accent. I seriously cannot stand that Australian/Canadian bullshit accent. Speak English, asshole
I think he used to be an “Actor” in the Jon Lovitz sense.
Molyneaux reminds me of the Deborah Messing character in that Seinfeld “Anti-Dentite” episode.
“Next thing you know, you’ll be saying they should have their own schools.”
“They DO have their own schools!”
Jimmy Dore, Aaron Mate, Glen Greenwald, and Max Bluementhal, among others, did yeomans work proving that Russia Fever Dreams were nonsense. And these guys HATE Trump, but they don’t suffer from TDS and they’re sure as shit will not ally with the intelligence community because orange man bad.
True. But tell me you want any of those with their hands on the levers of power. Let’s not kid ourselves about what Jimmy Dore really is; a person who hates the state only because he’s not the one leading it.
I would rather have Jimmy Dore or Aaron Mate in the government than Bill Weld or Bolton.
Of course there is no way that either would ever be in government, because Democrats fucking despise them. This is the antiwar Left. And I respect them, even though I still think they’re statist assholes.
It’s the same thing how I can respect Matt Gaetz for some of his policies while despising him for other policies.
Weld or Bolton? I’ll give you that. But I won’t give you Dore over almost any random person on the street who doesn’t want to fuck with other people.
Well, yeah. I agree on that point. Then again, though, I’d rather be ruled by plumbers or electricians than anyone who attended college
How many random people on the street would you have to go through to find one who doesn’t want to fuck with other people?
That number is not small.
They don’t care for cocktail parties.
They certainly don’t get invited to them.
Pretty much the entirety of The Nation has been excluded from the Democratic cool kids club, because they have remained an antiwar left-wing publication

The woman, known as Su, had ordered condoms from an online delivery service last month which promised to deliver them under 20 minutes.”

OFFS there is no “political crisis”.
Maybe they should look around them for a real political crisis.
I like the implication that the system is rigged against democrats. That is amusing.
So send help, one of you people with better research skills than me.
1 game playoff to determine HFA.
It’s “Sports Day” again at my kid’s elementary school tomorrow. Means having go to the school and sitting on a tarp while hundreds of kids do paramilitary marching exercises disguised as dance routines. Then they’ll have races and other competitions. All the mothers bring a homemade bento for their kids and try to impress the other mothers with their skill. Last year, a guy dressed in his factory uniform showed up at lunchtime and handed his kids some McDonalds. The mothers around him were mocking him for bringing McD’s to sports day. “Oh, did see what he brought?” Fucking cunts. The guy’s wife died a few years ago and he’s raising three young kids by himself. If I see him tomorrow, I’m asking him to go out for beers.
“The mothers around him were mocking him for bringing McD’s to sports day.”
I’ll keep saying it: Reason Commenter Nikki was right – mom’s should be rounded up and put in camps.
I’ve got your grammatical corrections right here.
Mom’s and Ted’s should be rounded up.
Nice.
[insert some math pendantry re: rounding]
Given the absurd extremes I’ve read Japanese mothers go to create elaborate bento for their children, I guess it’s not surprising to see that reaction, but yeah that sounds awfully callous.
Meanwhile, all the other kids think he is the greatest Dad ever.
And ducked out of work for his kids on their big day.
Yep!
That alone is pretty daring for Japan, isn’t it? I mean, I’ve watched Gung Ho a bunch of times so I should know.
Funny you bring that up. I take care of my daughter. Meet her after school, do her homework with her, take her swimming, do housework together. It’s probably triple how much time the wife spends with her. And I do the cooking 4~5 nights a week and most of the laundry and other housework. But I don’t take the full day off like other fathers to spend at sports day. Half day for me and then it’s off to the office. These other fathers see their kids about 3 hours a week. Sports day is supposed to be some guilt alleviating activity for that, but I’m completely immune to it. The other fathers will act all high and mighty for showing up at 8am and staking out a prime spot with their blue tarps. That’s one day out of 365 mother fucker.
Now I have to ask, what’s with sitting on a tarp and not in a camping chair?
Some people will bring camping chairs. Japanse just like sitting on the ground. Got me why, though.
Traditionally, I thought their homes had very little furniture so sitting on the floor/ground is just what you did.
This is why we won the war, by the way.
Tatami is nice to sit on. And there isn’t mud tracked all over it.
Too low.
Ahhh, should have known it was one of those kind of days. Still, if he was showing up in his work clothes, it wasn’t a full day off?
The widower father was working, but stopped by to give his kids lunch. I’m talking about the majority of fathers that are there all day with their cameras flickering trying to capture a moment of their offsprings’ childhoods. It’s sad if you think about it.
I have no patience for that petty bullshit.
I would have pretended I didn’t know about his deceased wife and chimed in with “I guess Mrs. Tanaka was too lazy to make their lunch, huh”. Let them tell me that Mrs. Tanaka is dead – if they are cold enough to go there I’d hit them with “So what would your kids be eating if you were dead?”
It’s possible they didn’t know she had died (unlikely given the gossip mill that is our kid’s school). Still, the arrogance of assuming you’re better than other parents because you made a rice into the shape of a panda…
I don’t buy that they didn’t know the mother had passed away. I have two kids in grade school here and even I know more than I want to know about the family situation of every kid who is in the same class with mine. Japanese mothers live for that kind of data.
Did you ever have your “park debut” when they were in nursery school?
Ugh. That sounds insufferable. Makes me glad to live here although that shit has always gone on but to a lesser degree. Buy him a beer and a bump or two if you ever get the chance, Straff.
*Cheers*
That is like perfect Japanese snark. Well done.
straff – for sure try to grab a beer with the guy. Assuming he has the ability – being a single guy and all.
Single parent that is!
“Is that the most exciting part of your year? What a pity.”
Infuriating.
Meanwhile the other kids were all “Lucky bastards get a burger and I have to eat this crap Mom brought that is all pretty and tastes like ass”

Now I’m going to have this goddamn thing playing in my head all day.
You say that as if it was a bad thing.
bwaaaahahahahahahahaha
She’s such an opportunistic fucking fraud. She’s a transparent grifter. That said she’s 100x the fucking candidate Hilary was and is when she eventually enters this race.
Hillary in the race by next March is my prediction.
Colostomy bag and all.
She’s like Michael Meyers I won’t believe he’s dead until i see the head chopped off siting on my mantle and even than there’s probably going to be a sequal or reboot.
The only thing is I can’t decide if she’s going to actually run in the primary or just be coronated at the convention.
I think its way too late to try to start a primary campaign. There is a lot of infrastructure, organizing, and fundraising to be done.
And I just can’t see the Dems nominating somebody who didn’t run in the primary.
I think Hillary is in our rearview mirror at this point.
DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO FFS!
It strikes me that the whole kefuffle over private prisons is a red herring. Self-interest will always be a factor in the process of imprisoning people. You see this play out in California where the prison guards’ union is one of the major advocates of heavy incarceration policies and one of their current Senators and presidential candidate actually lobbied against early release to ensure a cheap labor force for the state.
Seems to me that private prisons have a lot more to lose if prisoners are mistreated, or if the prison’s employees engage in criminal activities.
Pelosi, taking on a president, meets feminists’ desire for a superhero

sigh… I had this convo with my wife yesterday, when they announced Shakira and JaLo were going to do the halftime show for the Super Bowl. JaLo was all in on how this was amazing for females and latinos because they were going to be performing at Miami and it was just two women, and they were going to make it about love and Unity. I was telling my wife that i have no problem being proud of your heritage and your identity. But it seems awfuly like talking out both sides of your mouth when you say that it is so important for [racial group x] to be recognized for such and such, but then talk about Unity.
Man Sure Is Glad He Switched From E-Cigs To Regular, Healthier Cigarettes
The more this Ukrainian business appears to be a bumbling reprise of the Russian nonsense, the more I’m starting to believe the suggestions I’ve read that this entire thing is more about the Dem leftists kneecapping Biden than a serious attempt to bring Trump down.
It moves Trump’s campaign apparatus to focus on Biden for the time being so…yeah.
It was a play to try and kill two birds with one stone.
I don’t think they even particularly cared about whether it would take Trump out. As low as my opinion of Congressional Democrats is, they would have to be exceptionally, grotesquely stupid to have thought this would ever stand a chance of getting him removed from office. a)there isn’t much to either the transcript or the “whistleblower” complaint b)the Dems did the exact same thing when they wrote a letter begging Ukraine not to end investigations that they deemed vital to Mueller’s circus c)impeachment is a loser with all but the most rabid of leftists in the electorate.
So, given all of those facts, why careen into impeachment (that isn’t really impeachment anyway)? What was the sudden urgency about? Because it was merely a vehicle for publicizing the Biden corruption angle without having Democrat fingerprints on it.
I think they’ve collectively lost their minds. The party is rapidly being taken over by its formerly fringe members who actually do believe they can “take down Trump”, and the rest of them are going along with it because what choice do they have?
because what choice do they have?
I know that’s the conventional wisdom and I have no doubt that that’s how the Democrats generally see it. But, I’m not really convinced that that’s true. What choice do they have? They can tell the radicals to go pound sand, that they’re first-term Representatives and pretty much the bottom of the D.C. pecking order. Doing that would probably give a Democrat in a vulnerable seat or a Democrat looking to garner a national following a lot more credibility than being bullied about by left-wing freak shows.
Pelosi tried that for awhile. It doesn’t seem to be working.
Intentional or not, it’s exactly what they’re doing.
It’s about the intelligence community asserting its dominance. The mask is gone. No one is even pretending anymore.
Jeez, you’d think they’d be more competent then.
I do think it’s rather amusing that Chuck Schumer once said on live television that Trump was making a big mistake butting heads with the intelligence community because “they have six ways to Sunday of getting back at you”, yet we’re expected to unquestioningly believe all these claims these people are making about Trump.
Chuck Schumer once said on live television that Trump was making a big mistake butting heads with the intelligence community because “they have six ways to Sunday of getting back at you”
The fact that he didn’t follow this with a demand to investigate, clean out the bad apples, and restructure the intelligence community tells you all you need to know about Chuck Schumer.
Here is my take on this:
1) This is a plot to accomplish three aims:
a) To prevent Donald Trump from appointing Ginsburg’s replacement by miring him in an impeachment inquiry.
b) To motivate their base to go out and vote for whichever shitty candidate wins the nomination. The scary leftism is turning off a lot of centrist Democrats, and they need to scare them into going to the polls anyway.
c) To create a credible narrative about the Ukranian stuff to be shady Republican behavior as a sort of receptor antagonist to prevent progressive voters from learning that their gods are in fact venal profiteers.
2) Trump is messing with their operational tempo in order to blunt the attack. Trump may not know exactly what the plot against him entails, but knows that the appearance of impropriety heavily depends on a coordinated release of information from seemingly unrelated sources to create the impression that there is genuine smoke. His leaks, releases, tweets etc are intended to prompt them to make responses at the wrong times.
The RGB angle is certainly playing a part in this charade even if it’s unconscious.
I think the RGB aspect is probably the biggest (though under-the-radar). To me it’s less about being mired than about fabricating a new reason to ignore a nomination he makes when they admit she’s dead.

I’d say it’s at or near the top, in fact. The Kavanaugh circus(es) convinced me of that.
Agreed.
The Dems know they have locked down any legislation they don’t like because they have the House. They know the Deep/administrative state has proven itself highly effective in resisting Trump’s agenda.
About the only thing he can do that they care about is nominate judges, especially SCOTUS Justices. If they are smart, their schwerpunkt in 2020 will be to take control of the Senate and hold the House. If they do that, Trump is actually a plus for them for fundraising and motivating their base.
…this entire thing is more about the Dem leftists kneecapping Biden than a serious attempt to bring Trump down.
If true, this strikes me as monumentally stupid, akin to the old phrase of “cut off your nose to spite your face”. I think Biden is their best chance of beating Trump, so to kneecap him is a major tactical error.
Maybe the leftists are playing the long game here. They could be willing to write off 2020 in order to seize control of the Democrat Party, and are trying to purge those, like Biden, who aren’t full-throated socialists.
Tesla – has some amazing engineering, motor and battery technology. But it is surrounded by an amazingly mediocre automobile manufacturer saddled with a money losing solar venture.
Ordered my model 3 on 9/21. Today a front fender randomly showed up at my house.
As the comments note – I guess it will be coming in pieces with some assembly required.
I got it one piece at a time and it didn’t cost me a dime
You’ll know it’s me when I come through your town
I’m gonna ride around in style, I’m gonna drive everybody wild
‘Cause I’ll have the only one there is aroundUh yow, Red Ryder, this is the cotton mouth
In the Psycho-Billy Cadillac come on, huh, this is the cotton mouth
And negatory on the cost of this mow-chine there Red Ryder
You might say I went right up to the factory
The decades of theft bothered me.
Yeah, that bothers me about Musk too.
Musk has been pretty open that the real mission is battery and maybe motor technology. The car company is just a way to monetize that to support the mission. It should be no surprise that the cars are pretty mediocre otherwise.
The Model 3 actually drives really well.
There is some really interesting engineering in the vehicle since he started from a clean sheet.
The Tesla Model 3 ‘Superbottle’ Easter Egg Is a Fascinating Packaging Solution
In this case this cuts across traditional vehicle silos – so an established manufacturer is unlikely to ever make something like this.
Another example would be the Model 3 has no fuses or mechanical circuit breakers. It uses MOSFETs to measure and limit current.
I can never forgive it for the driver-killing touchscreen controls.
I thought I’d hate it. I’m very much a mechanical person.
I don’t.
Now I look at a BMW or MB and see all the switches and buttons and cringe.
That would probably be the main thing that kept me from buying it. I hate those things, and think it is a huge design flaw in many ways.
In related news, I was stuck in traffic yesterday and saw a Tesla with a vanity plate that read: “COALPWR”.
NJ gets 44% of its generation from nuclear. I always say my car is nuclear powered.
I’m always amazed at people who think electricity just “appears” out of the wall.
Awesome.
The thing is, I could easily use an electric car as my main car, since I do most of my driving around town and the range wouldn’t be an issue at all.
However, we also need a good highway vehicle for long drives. Mrs. Dean’s tooled-up FJ Cruiser is not that. So we would be stuck without a good vehicle for one of our needs. If she still had the AMG, I could be driving a Tesla, especially given the subsidies. Which, yes, I would apply for and accept.
Teslas are unreliable pieces of shit though.
I could use an electric for the same reasons, but I’d miss the usefulness of a pickup. Our other car has to be a people-hauler because we’ve got one kid, one on the way, two dogs, and all the associated luggage and crap for the relatively frequent road trips we take. At this point, something car-sized would be a luxury, and if we’re going that route I want a nice Mercedes sedan.

“Do not use in the shower”
No kidding, it’d be more embarrassing being found dead from that than any of those guys who can’t manage to tie a good slipknot.
Can someone explain to me how John Kerry and Joe Biden’s sons ran an “investment firm” that took not millions but billions of dollars in from various foreign governments and corporations and this wasn’t deemed news worthy until now? not thousands, not millions, but billions. And this isn’t even thrown out except to set the scene for Drumpf’s supposed misdeeds? I still can’t get past this.
honestly that story should’ve been on every front page of every newspaper for months with year long exposes and congressional hearings. How much money did Russia give to the trumps again?
It’s the equivalent of turning someone upside down and shaking them down.
This is what those two parasites did.
Apparently Hunter had little experience in private equity.
Yeah but they weren’t the president of the united states.

Halfthor and wife pullup contest. All those pullups were awful. But i am fascinated by the size difference
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTdnL_qbn_U
**Wonders how that even works (uhmm, mechanically)**
He’s 6′-9″ and 430 lbs
She’s 5′-2 and ~120 lbs.
I take it she “climbs the Mountain”
She could fit inside of him like a Tonton.
Nose to nose, her toes are innit
Toe to toe, her nose is innit.
And I thought they smelled bad on the *outside*!
That’s hilarious. One sort of halfway pull-up between the two of them if you squint real hard. It’s a good illustration of how “strong” can mean different things to different people.
Shouldnt her last name be Hendottir?
Canadians lost the good old ways sadly
Sexual dimorphism is an amazing thing.
Observations:
1. Strength isn’t a linear function in human beings, especially not in the muscles for pullups. This is why the heaviest ring men top at around 150 lb/73 kg (on average).*
2. Good on the Mountain for working at those (because of #1). Pullups and climbing punish ANY excess weight. Any at all.
3. He doesn’t go over the bar and she doesn’t go all the way to the bottom: a wonderful example of both of them not being willing to go where they’re weakest – the norm for all of us.
4. Regarding #2, running also punishes excess weight, but not like the directly contra-gravity exercises.
* Yes, I know, Jordan Vovchev is the rare exception at 170.
Making homophobic characters gay panders to a pervasive myth
‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ creator Rob McElhenney may think he’s exposing hypocrisy by making the ultraconservative Mac gay, but he’s perpetuating a trope that absolves the straight community of responsibility for homophobia
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/features/its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia-mac-gay-homophobic-rob-mcelhenney-season-14-a9121271.html
That final “I’m not really a bad guy, honest” episode from last season didn’t buy him a blanket absolution?
Our young children, who look up to IASIP for moral guidance, will be so confused.
straight community of responsibility for homophobia
Ah yes, its all about collective guilt. There are two responses to guilt from which the guilty can never repent:
1) Continued forgiveness seeking behavior.
2) Giving up any pretense of moral behavior.
Lots of people in type 1 behavior, but more and more people moving to type 2 behavior. Which is rational, but “Not Good.” The only way out is to Not Play the Game aka hold fast to your own definition of good and evil and live your life according to that.
Get out!
“homophobe” – does anyone actually have that phobia?
To clarify, I stipulate that there are people who dislike or even hate gays, but I’m talking about the real meaning of phobia.
Phobia means “fear” or “dislike”.
I dislike spiders, but I dont have arachnophobia.
Just giving the dictionary definition.
No.
Actually, probably yes, in the same way there is probably actually someone with triskadeckaphobia.

Nope, everything looks good from my side.
The fear of having the same fear?
Is that what FDR meant?
I think they should take their gay friends out on a boat ride. Because of the implications.
Hunter Biden reminds me of how naturally intelligent all these children of politicians are. They all end up going to some pretentious….excuse me, ‘prestigious’ university. Andrew and Chris Cuomo both went to Yale. Hunter Biden went to Yale. George W. Bush went to Yale. So weird.
Obviously these people are just naturally gifted geniuses. There is no other explanation, because the alternative would suggest that these pretentious….again, excuse me ‘prestigious’ universities are more about clout and money than anything else.
We need to investigate Yale collusion in our elections
Better yet, we need to investigate the relationship of many of these universities and Jeffrey Epstein (a part of the story rarely discussed is his close relationship with MIT and Harvard’s business school). And then we need to de-fund government support for these institutions.
Or better yet, we need to burn down these institutions and salt the earth they stand on.
Even easier, just end the guaranteed student loan program and wait 20 years.
If the children of diplomats and executives don’t attend the ivy leagues, psychopathic parents won’t go to incredible lengths to get their kids in, reducing the ability of the ivy league to mold American culture as they see fit. So what’s your problem?!?
Hell, even local politicos too – Rob O’Rourke’s dumb ass went to Columbia.
Albert Gore Jr. went to Harvard.
Malia Obama goes to Harvard.
Chelsea Clinton went to Stanford.
Barbara Bush (W’s daughter) went to Yale.
Jenna Bush went to Texas, so she must be a real dunce.
I got into an Ivy League school the other way — by getting a certain minimum score on a standardized test — and let me assure you there is nothing all that special about them. I’m a game/graphics developer and in 20 years I’ve never had someone ask me what school I went to or even care that I went at all.
I often think that if I had just skipped college and did what I wanted to I would’ve saved a lot of time and boatloads of money. The computer science curriculum was already outdated and everything I learned was from practice and work.
I didn’t mean to diminish the hard work that some people put in to get into these institutions. I know that’s not what you’re saying, but I just want to make it clear that I respect people who work hard and earn what they have. My qualm is with the need for us to pretend as if Chris Cuomo earned his way into Yale or any one of these other children of politicians.
I had a roommate who was the black sheep scion of a very wealthy CT family – generations of sons went to Yale, a building there might be named for a grandfather. It was the late-80’s when they started cracking down a bit on “legacies” and so my 6th generation bulldog had to take some consolation by going to a moderate-good school further north in Boston.
Here’s the great part: his family’s prominence at Yale still got him “reciprocal” admission to the exclusive Hah-vahd Club across the Charles from where we lived. He was a great guy and roommate, but man, he came from $$$$$$ and power. His sister worked at Elle magazine and he used to play escort to some of the models when they were in Boston for shoots – I’m not joking. Occasionally one would slink out of out shitty apartment early on a Sunday morning and we (other roommates, all ROTC guys) would catch a glimpse.
He would jet-set around Boston on someone else’s dime as a “favor” to his sister. Again, let me say, a GOOD guy. A really good dude. Big, tall, handsome and rowed crew. But there is your life and my life and then there are people, among whom are politicians, as well as Kanye and the Kardashians, who are living a very different reality. Chapelle’s special was great, and the “Epilogue” was wonderful, setting aside how much I hate Obama, but the whole feel of it gives you a glimpse of how the TOP MEN types live. And I’ll give Chapelle a pass because of the joke he made earlier about his son having duck grease on his fingers; Chapelle knows just how fortunate he is and how the “other side” lives.
So as not to crap up the reading thread I’ll leave this here.
Fatal Car Accidents in America by Brand
It appears to be statistical garbage. From my quick scan it doesn’t control for number of vehicles of a given brand on the road. That said beware of Pontiac drivers given that last models were produced in 2010…
