St Louis won a wild one in Atlanta and the Dodgers cruised past Washington. And today is that glorious day when we have four playoff games in a row. I can’t wait.
The Seahawks topped the Rams last night in a game few people east of the Rockies even realized was on. And an 8 game slate on the ice last night resulted in the following winners: Carolina, New York (Rangers), Buffalo, Tampa, Nashville, Boston, Colorado and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. I’m sad I don’t get to call the name of the team from the land of 10,000 lakes, but I’m sure I will soon enough.
President (and Buckeye) Rutherford B Hayes was born on this day. As were: silent film great Buster Keaton, (over-)actor and proud gun owner Charlton Heston, animated crime stopper Dick Tracy, writer Anne Rice, twitchy baseball manager Tony LaRussa, nutjob Susan Sarandon, and boxer (involved in the greatest fight in history) Mickey Ward.
Y’all can fight me over the claim I made for that last name. Here’s rounds 9 and 10 in case you wanted to get goosebumps this morning. See? You know I’m right. And now on to…the links!
You can add an IRS “whistleblower” to Trump’s headaches. And I remember when the IRS got weaponized by the executive branch. My how times have changed.
The FBI will use a movie as a pretext to troll online postings. And they’ll likely use it as a reason to arrest a bunch of people who did nothing wrong. Yay, America!
This will be even funnier than Obama or Arafat winning. And by “funny”, I mean pathetic.
Apparently, the EU’s top court thinks it has jurisdiction of the entire world. Facebook needs to tell them to go suck an egg. But they won’t. They already bow and scrape to the Chinese government. Why not keep doing the same for the Europeans?
Bill DeBlasio decides to call out a cop’s widow. Its an interesting strategy. Especially since, you know, NYPD cops are trigger-happy as shit!. Jeez dude. If you’re gonna have six-hour work weeks, try thinking of something a little less contentious to do with that time.
I guess these women aren’t in to method acting. Seriously, I have no idea why a young woman would ever trust this guy.
A New Zealand bishop is being forced to resign for an “unacceptable sexual relationship”. The twist is that its with an adult woman!
And here’s a great song to end a week of great songs.
Enjoy more of my good musical taste. And enjoy your Friday and have a wonderful weekend. Beat Michigan State. Go ‘Stros. And all the best to your teams as well.
California Cheeseburger!
“and boxer (involved in the greatest fight in history) Mickey Ward”
So which fight against Gatti do you mean?
“Here’s rounds 9 and 10 in case you wanted to get goosebumps this morning.”
Oh, OK.
“and boxer (involved in the greatest fight in history) Mickey Ward”
Sorry, Sloopy, Gotti vs Ward doesn’t make my cut. Sure, it was wildly entertaining but both those guys were never really top-tier fighters. Their styles were too straightforward mexicanesque machismo: square up, walk through the other guy’s punches then land your own. Frankly, they were undisciplined, sloppy fighters who made for good viewing. Being an ex boxer/boxing nerd, I geek out on technique, skill, and strategy. That’s why, for me at least, I think the greatest fight I may have ever seen is Leonard vs Hagler…
I think Hagler won.
I think you are correct about Leonard/Hagler.
You misspelled Hagler / Hearns.
And Leonard/Hearns was a pretty good fight, too.
This.
Hagler was robbed, but Leonard was a master at stealing rounds by finishing with a flurry.
^TH gets it.
“Their styles were too straightforward mexicanesque machismo”
As if boxers shouldn’t fight. Anyway, if I was picking a middleweight, I’d pick Hopkins over either Leonard or Hagler.
There’s a big difference between not fighting and not fighting smartly. It’s the little things that matter, keeping your chin tucked, your body angled sideways to avoid giving your opponent a large target, keeping your off hand up near your chin, keeping your head and upper body between your feet, not getting off balance, shit like that…Gotti and Ward were terrible about those things.
And I agree, Hopkins may be the best technical defensive fighter I’ve ever seen but his fights were nothing too memorable(though, watching him drop The Golden Boy with a kidney shot was pretty fun). He just dominated everybody for a decade.
For at least a couple of decades, junior welterweight was the brawler division, due to macho Mexicans such as Chavez, rowdy Irish such as Ward and Magee, etc.
Yeah, that’s fair. And despite not fighting like himat all, I freaking loved Chavez. Guys like him, Ali, and yes, Ward and Gotti, were willing to die out there for a victory. That’s usually the difference between a very good fighter and a great fighter. So major props to Gotti and Ward for that, they just lacked the skill to be legends.
I said fight, not boxing match.
There’s a big difference.
If it’s in a boxing ring, it’s a boxing match, no matter how you parse it. ;p
Sorry, I’m not too much of a snob about most things but when it comes to boxing, yeah, guilty as charged.
The officially sanctioned experts said that Leonard won. What’s next? Are you going to say that the officially sanctioned experts are wrong about the upcoming extinction(s) due to climate change?
‘The officially sanctioned experts said that Leonard won. What’s next? Are you going to say that the officially sanctioned experts are wrong about the upcoming extinction(s) due to climate change?’
Dude, you should have seen some of the fucked up decisions I’ve seen, pro and amateur. Boxing has long had the reputation as possibly the most corrupt professional sport in the world, a reputation well deserved.
Not as bad as the ponies.
Ahhhhhh! Forget to consider that, good catch.
*forgot
….goddammit
Does that mean that climate change is going to cause one or more species to go extinct? Does that include people?
Hopefully?

Wait, are you the Bishop of Bath and Wells?
That fight was a joke. Hagler had terrible decisions go against him before and was looking to cash out,.
He knew he would have bashed Leonard’s brains out in a traditional 15-round fight but was willing to sell the championship off for retirement money. Leonard’s people wanted 12 not 15 rounds – Hagler said “okay” for a $million. Gloves the size of pillows – okay, pay me. A ring the size of a basketball court – okay, pay me. The result was that bizarre 12 rounds of Leonard running for his life and playing pitter-patter with meaningless slap-punches.
I think this is spot on. I can’t say I blame anyone for cashing out though. It’s not exactly a lifetime occupation.
Hagler was younger but had twice as many fights as Leonard and was starting to slow down. Early in his career he was unbelievably slick and fast – and judges often missed his punches. Towards the end he became a power-puncher and had wars with Hearns and John “the Beast” Mugabi. But he was taking punches and knew that was a bad long-term plan. He would have destroyed Leonard in a regular fight but then what? So he took the money and went to Italy to become an action-hero movie star.
I agree about the Hagler-Leonard fight. I remember screaming at the TV after the decision, ‘what the fuck!?’ If I recall, Leonard danced around jabbing while Hagler tried to reign in his punk ass fluttering.
As for Gatti-Ward, again from a technical stand point you’re right. Not the greatest but guts and stamina is still part of the equation and there was so much of it, it became legend. It has to go down as the greatest trilogy.
Leonard fought his fight. He did land some impressive combinations and shrugged off some very heavy blows by Hagler, showing his toughness. And to be honest, I was mostly a counter puncher during my amateur career so I’m biased towards his style. That said, I still think Hagler imposed his will on Leonard through most of the fight and landed the more decisive and consistent punches.
We watched on satellite at a peeler bar. 90% of the clientele were backing Hagler. We hated that pretty-boy.
Guilty as charged.
Thanks.
‘It has to go down as the greatest trilogy.’
My reflexive response is Ali vs Frazier but I really can’t deny Gotti vs Ward made for extremely fun viewing.
Ali-Frazier was a different majestic fight. This was just….it didn’t make sense.
different majestic match ups.

Really, YouTube?
I noticed that too.
How deviant.
I never got how you could square Priestly celibacy with
From all I’ve learned, the celibacy came into being during the middle ages, as a compromise to prevent the priesthood/monastic orders from potentially inheriting kingdoms (on top of the large amounts of property they were already grabbing).
By whatever political expediency, it still strikes me as being at odds with what is recorded as the very first divine directive handed down.
Take it up with St. Paul.
Paul said keep it in your pants if you can. If you can’t, get married.
Not tricky.
Right. “Keep it in your pants if you can” is at odds with “Be fruitful and multiply.”
Though it aids in avoiding covetting thy neighbor’s wife.
Not many can.
as we have seen.
I think the call to celibacy would be an individual mandate one would get from God, Nazarite vow type of situation, rather than quick blanket statement.
To go longer on what Paul is saying. If after a time of prayer you believe that God has called you to a specific purpose that would be impeded by being married you should not marry but remain celibate. To fulfill both duties of your mission from God and as a husband or wife, would detract from both.
Continued….
command of “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” would be considered a command to the royal we and wouldn’t necessarily have to apply to every single person. Also in that verse is “have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth up on the earth” Doesn’t mean I (as and individual) am to go and control and subdue all creatures around me. It’s humankind that does that.
And yet, is one not supposed to lead by example?
It’s also worth reading in context. He was responding to a letter (clearly written by women) that said that celibacy is good, even in marriage.
Paul responded by saying if you’re married, the only reason you shouldn’t be fucking like rabbits is when you both agree on a short break to focus on God, and make sure it’s a short break so that one of you doesn’t get ideas about getting it on with the neighbor.
Then Paul says staying single and chaste in the pursuit of holy things is awesome, and it’s something that Paul highly recommends, but that he knows not many are set out for that life, and that marriage is a good alternative so that you can fuck and also focus on Godly things.
The individual study of the Bible wasn’t really a thing during the middle ages, so most of the people would only know the parts that the priest talked about in the sermon. Hell, local language Mass wasn’t a thing until Vatican II: Eucharist Boogaloo.
Since the people who were reading it are the same ones this directive applies to, the laity don’t really come into the question.
They’re supposed to live like Christ, not like Adam & Eve.
Yeah, the hierarchy was/is corrupt as hell. But with no outcry from the rank and file members, what are you going to do about it?
/hides hammer and nails
Say controversial things from the pulpit and then get roasted like your namesake?
I can’t believe he fell for it! So easy with the churchgoing types, they believe you when you tell them you want to hear more about what they have to say! sucka!
Yeah, it seems to have been to prevent familial inheritance of holdings the church wanted to maintain for itself.
Yes – this.
Roman Catholic, not Church of England, so no surprise.
As long as RCs continue to require the faithful to confess all their sins to a priest (yes, they really do that) then for practical reasons priests must remain celibate. Because who are they going to unload to? That’s right. And spouses are beyond ecclesiastical discipline.
Other priests, just like they do now.
Altar boys have a sad.
You know what yesterday’s thread didn’t have enough of? Religious doctrine discussion.
I’m just saying I’m in favor of clerical marriage.
Hot for preacher?
I’ll have nun of that sass.
Now, we’ll have nun of that!
Ugh. I guess I can’t read today.
Your sins are forgiven. Just don’t make a habit of it.
The Dems appear to be soliciting hearsay from every agency now.
Hey, what could be more precise than “the president’s or vice-president’s tax returns”?
Trump should just direct the agency to respond with “Unfortunately, all of the returns were on a hard drive that crashed and we destroyed all of the backups in accordance with standard procedure.”
So, the post Lerner review found no need to change procedures, I see.
Not just hearsay, but fake hearsay evidence from fake sources
I’ll correct your blurb… the executive didn’t weaponize the IRS…. it was the Democrats. So this is par for the course.
All that “deep state” talk that sounded like paranoid conspiracy theory stuff is starting to look like a pretty tame version of what actually exists.
The tight coordination between “grass roots” organizations, DNC offices and campaigns, the media and top level government officials like Comey and Brennan is pretty impressive. And scary.
The Kavanaugh thing was next-level because they had multiple senators conspiring with top media people and multiple outside attorneys and advocacy groups providing funding. All for an obvious smear job. When I saw that Today Show anchor Guthrie was at a 2am meeting at Chuck Shumer’s place the night before the documents were leaked to the press, I stopped doubting the crazy folk.
I know… I should have been there long before. We already had plenty with the “Trump is a kook who thinks his phones are tapped” flip by the media. But this one was so obvious and there was no alternate explanation.
Like when Drudge announced that he had been told that in 2 weeks the Kerry campaign would be coordinating a week-long focus on vietnam service, to be complemented by daily stories being prepared by CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS. That was derailed by Dan Rather’s fake AWOL story, but when you call a shot like that two weeks out, and you have 5 networks coordinating which night to release their stories and the campaign already has ad buys out there….
Amazing that none of this stuff that happens right out in public ever gets investigated.
Just the NYT story about Obama administration officials sabotaging Trump by selectively declassifying various classified reports to be distributed around the government and leaked after he took office in order to get an investigation and impeachment should have been enough to get a bunch of people arrested. They weren’t even ashamed – the NYT had them bragging about it in the story, and the NYT wrote it as a triumphant puff piece, not an expose of corruption. That was immediately after Trump took office.
There was a time when you’d at least try to hide the fact that you were a corrupt cabal.
You mean, don’t eat any baby humans, right?
Right?
Veal, Lamb, it’s all good.
Unless you’re in a certain Queens congressional district
They can’t eat them, they need those babies to make sacrifices to Moloch and Tlaloc!
Are we going back to the chicken puns now? Swiss will get all egg-cited, cry fowl and give us a gaze on the wing that’s pure poultry in motion.
And on that note, I can duck out of this thread…
YAY!!! I just watched his Sabata movies again yesterday, great stuff.

All Caps, couldn’t read.
You never would have survived in the days of the teleprinter.
Short version: No-longer-federal government insiders plotted to get President Trump. Also, despite firing Comey being one of the allegations of obstruction of justice, the guy who appointed Mueller told President Trump to fire Comey.
So why’d they have to scream it?
They apparently like unnecessarily capitalization. Examples from their website:
“State Department Watch is dedicated to keeping American citizens up-to-date on ALL issues that the Mainstream Media REFUSES to cover!”
“STATE DEPARTMENT WATCH is a nonprofit and nonpartisan foreign policy watchdog group.”
No just due to a clerical error the official name registered with the IRS is in all caps.

First they had to get rid of Sessions. McCabe was the one who opened the investigation into Sessions that forced him to recuse himself. Of course nothing came of it, because he played ball.
I always want to ask Lefties, “What do you think is a bigger threat to democracy: some social media shit-stirring by the Russian government, or several national news agencies being in direct collusion with one of the political parties to slant coverage in their favor?”
Don’t leave the permanent bureaucracy out of it.
They aren’t even bothering to hide what they are up to any more.
That “deep state” stuff sounded a little nutty 3 years ago. Not so nutty now.

Freaky Friday: We’ve Discovered New Ways To Die And Are Loving It
That is called a Mr. Bill.
We know that mass shooters are inspired in part by the notoriety.
So… hype up mass shootings at an event, increase the notoriety. They really are desperate for a pile of bodies to stand on and shriek at wrongthinkers, aren’t they?
Yep.
As were serial killers. Yet that didn’t stop the media coverage of them either.
It’s the current crime fashion trend.
Bombings or mass poisonings will be next.
It’s about time we had common sense press control. The First amendment is not absolute. The Founding Fathers could not have foreseen the 24/7 news cycle. Nobody needs up-to-the-minute news to hunt deer. If you have to have cable news, you’re compensating for a small penis.
You can take my statewide, up-to-the-minute morel mushroom hunting/spotting app from my cold dead hands.
How about an up-to-the-minute immoral mushroom hunting/spotting app that finds people using the other app so you can steal their mushrooms?
Brilliant!!! Too bad I never LTC! or I’d start development now.
It’s the same app, just a higher subscription level.
+ Reasonable Restrictions
We really ought to liscence people before we let them report news. Did you know you can go online and set up your own professional website without a background check?
ZOMG News Stand Loophole!
That is a really good point by point takedown of their argument. Except for the tiny penis part, which is just a cheap shot (and one I’m not above taking in certain, egregious cases).

I dunno, she might pack a wallop IYKWIMAITTYD…
You take cheap shots with your tiny penis?
I thought it was gonna be trucks vs. pedestrians but the shine seems to have faded off that one over the last year or so.
Pressure cookers are so 2013
Watching Mindhunters got me wondering where all the serial killers went? Is it a social pathology that’s always existed or was it exacerbated by the breathless coverage of the 70’s-90’s? Are there less serial killers today than 20 years ago?
I’m thinking higher first kill capture rate makes them harder to identify.
That could be it. DNA mapping has definitely hobbled them.
Could also be that some of today’s mass murderers would have been yesterday’s serial killers.
I’m on the fence about that. Because the sort of feedback and gratification serial killers get* doesn’t jive with one big event they know they won’t come back from.
*according to Experts(TM)
But due to the higher first kill capture rate you noted, combined with the hysterical media frenzy over mass killings, they could be identifying mass killing as the best outlet for their compulsion.

I’ve also wondered about that. The FBI Psych who did the post mortem on the Columbine killers determined Eric Harris had all the same traits as a serial killer. Pathology probably isn’t deterministic of the methodology.
Pathology probably isn’t deterministic of the methodology.
I doubt it is even deterministic of the crime.

I’m sad I don’t get to call the name of the team from the land of 10,000 lakes, but I’m sure I will soon enough.
I’m sad, too, because I don’t think you’re going to get to call it nearly enough. Granted, the Preds are a terrific team, especially in their own barn, but the Wild looked completely outclassed last night. Yeah, I know it’s only one game, but if Dubnyk hadn’t been amazing, the score would have been even more lopsided.
I am in that perfect sports funk that characterizes the long-time Minnesota sports fan. Vikings: suck. Diva receivers are making waves. Twins: good, but are conspiring to let us down. Wild: slow and old. Wolves: lol wut? Gilded Rodents: beat a real team and get back to me.
Fuck.
Thank you for the excellent song choice. I got to see him back in the day and the show was a blast. Dez Dickerson (pre-Revolution Price guitarist) opened. Fun show.
Here’s a fun one from Billy’s prior band
Make it a great day, y’all!
In my veggie bag were some potatoes of the variety “Viking Purple.” At first I was confused because I didn’t think the vikings grew potatoes. Then I realized “duh, how else could the scandis get their tater tots for Hot Dish?”
They were really good potatoes.
Were they purple on the inside or just purple skinned?
I am amused by the ones that are purple all the way through. It’s the little things.
Purple skinned, much whiter than average on the inside.
Because mainepotatolady.com is of course a thing.
Though I really, really doubt that it’s an heirloom variety by the name. It sounds like something developed by the University of Minnesoda.
Apparently they are Sugar Free.
https://www.mainepotatolady.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=28
According to the Canadian government (who I trust about this sort of thing) they were invented by the University of NoDak in 1954.
Ha ha ha ha ha. +1
So Obama potatoes? (Don’t worry folks, I’m shunning myself already…)
Those are too spicy for the Scandis.
Thanks for the Gen X, good Tundra. After Idol made it big, Tony James went off and started the most 1980s band imaginable (and favorite of teen l0b0t if nobody else on Earth) – Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
Heh I remember them. Didn’t know about the Gen X connection.
A confluence of factors made them really hit me right in the teen feels. My Japanese aunt had just returned from a family visit and showered me Takatoku, Bandai, Popy, and Takara goodness. And I was wearing out the video rental store’s (Network Video, I don’t think Blockbuster even existed at that point) copy of Blade Runner.
I didn’t either.
I remember this one, though!

The Lakers have had a pretty good run.
The Lambs-Hawks game turned out to be far more interesting than we expected.
That is usually a short contest.
I think some craft breweries may be putting their waterskis on and getting ready to jump that great white. Two collaborations have been announced in the past week that just have me confused.
First, Stone Brewing has announced a Jagermeister Arrogant Bastard made in their Berlin location (sold a couple months back to BrewDog). The most confusing line in the press release:
Second, more understandable collaboration is coming from PA. Two of their oldest companies are collaborating, Yuengling and Hersheys. This one I may pick up if I see it on the shelf.
Huh. On the one hand, Yeungling. On the other hand Hershey’s.
Don’t you dare.
Reese’s?
Hershey’s……
When I was a kid we lived outside Philly for a while. The Hershey’s folks would give away the cocoa shells if you hauled them off. So we hired a dumptruck to bring a load for landscaping.
It was amazing! A giant mound of little husks that smelled absolutely delicious! We had the best time playing in it, until we spread it under the shrubs and in the flower beds. It really makes the most amazing mulch… deep brown and wonderfully aromatic.
Probably costs a fortune now.
Jager beer sounds absolutely revolting.
Yeah, I was never already combining that on my own. Yuck.
Jager is revolting. That damn fad was in full swing when I was bartending. For Bacchus’ sake if you are so far gone you’ll drink cough syrup for your buzz do it at home so I don’t have to try and get that syrup out of the shot glasses.
But all the cool Berliners drink it!
Licorice jelly doughnuts?
cool Berliners?
Oh, you mean JFK
It just lists “Draft” as availability. 🙁
Looks like you’ll have to head out to try it. I actually do like the Yuengling porter and black and tan for cheap daily drinkers. I mean it’s no Founder’s Porter or Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, but it’s good for the price.
Agreed on Yuengling being a high value brewer.
Oh, and in “draft only” news, it should be time for Squashtober soon. I recommend it.
If it was available around here, I’d be willing to give it a try. Pumpkin beers really aren’t my thing though. In seasonal news, it’s almost time for the annual release of Great Lakes Christmas Ale where instead of the standard Dortmunder Gold taps, every bar in the Cleveland area will have a 7.5% winter warmer on tap (and most will serve it by the pint).
I suppose this means I should start trying to get together an Autumn BIF, if there’s any interest (and no one else wants to run with it).
Interest, interest, interest; Interest over here. Beer It Forward is so wonderful; I really do love beer.
I have no idea why Ikh Bin A Kleyner Dreydl was running through my twisted noggin while I typed that.
Yuengling porter and black and tans were my training wheels. I’m marginally sad you can’t get them here in Minnesoda.
We have friends who opened up a distillery making gin. It’s a matter of time they get bought out and make millions.
I wonder how hard it is to make a good rum….
With the easy access to industrial ethanol in the US (or Brazil), it should be trivial to purify and make some extremely smooth rum. (the Vodka market being the obvious first choice, but having already been down that road)
Darnit. You just reminded me I haven’t opened that bottle of white rum yet. It’s been sitting on the counter forever.
*deducts Glib points*
I wonder if the alcohol tastes significantly different if it’s made from sugarcane juice vs. grain, potatoes, corn, etc.
I think so. My understanding is that bourbon, rum, etc. aren’t made by flavoring ethanol (unlike, say, gin). They are made by cutting the fractions to retain some of the flavor from the fermented grain/sugar cane/etc.
That’s what I thought.
You could probably use bulk ethanol to make anything based on grain neutral spirits like gin, absinthe, or flavored liqueurs, but seems like you’d need to actually ferment and distill a bunch of sugarcane juice if you wanted to make genuine rum.
On a side note, I once visited the Maker’s Mark distillery in Kentucky and saw the process from start to finish; from the grading of the grain that gets shipped in to the dipping of the bottle in wax. Interesting place.
Bourbon tours are now a pretty big tourist business in KY.
Bourbon Trail
Run some double-blind taste tests. X glasses, drinker needs to pair up which ones came from the same bottle. Half your testers will get all from the same source, half will get pairs of alcohols. The person who pours is not the person who administers the test to the tasters, so they don’t know what type of test any given taster got.
That should give you good data to figure it out.
I don’t know if I’m very surprised or not at all surprised by the fact that you don’t know about triangle tests.
Bah, how are you supposed to get grant money to get drunk if you’re minimizing the amount each taster drinks?
Sugar is sugar, except it’s not. The source of sugar (malted grain, fruit juice, honey, corn syrup, etc) are going to provide some combination of glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, and other high order sugars.
The yeast is going to turn those sugars into ethanol which doesn’t have a flavor.
The different flavors of ale, wine, mead, etc come from the “impurities” in whatever sugar water you start with. And the yeast itself promotes the creation of other organic compounds that alter the flavor of the final product.
If you keep distilling long enough, you will take all those lovely impurities out of the end product.
I worked for a guy that was infusing rum. He’d buy cheap (but good) in bulk from Mauritius. Unfortunately his bribes to Bell County were insufficient.
His prototyping setup was some scuba tanks.
I can totally see mimbos like Franco and Trudeau filled with inappropriate behaviour skeletons in their closets.
I’m sure Franco has had so many girls roll over for him that it didn’t register that one or two might not want it.
^^^ This. When you get on a roll you kind of forget what the purpose of the thing is.
Yeh probably true.
I can’t see how anyone could dispute the Ward-Gatti trilogy wasn’t the best of all time. There was the Hearns-Hagler-Robinson and a few heavyweig bouts that were sublime but Gatti-Ward were epic poems.
Gatti had to have been murdered. No?
Going with the California cheeseburger theme…

‘Get rid of the babies!’: Distraught woman at AOC town hall urges ‘eating babies’ to fight climate change
…
QUEENS, New York — A seemingly troubled woman at a town hall hosted by Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in her district stood up to demand the congresswoman support drastic measures to combat climate change, such as “eating babies.”
“We’re not going to be here for much longer, because of the climate crisis,” the woman pleaded. “We only have a few months left. I love that you support the Green Deal, but it’s not gonna get rid of fossil fuel. It’s not going to solve the problem fast enough. A Swedish professor said we can eat dead people, but it’s not fast enough! So, I think your next campaign slogan needs to be this: We’ve got to start eating babies.”

Many of Ocasio-Cortez’s constituents appeared confused by the woman’s declarations.
Removing her jacket to reveal a T-shirt with the phrase “Save the planet Eat the Children,” the woman continued, “We don’t have a enough time. There’s too much Co2.”
“All of you!” she went on, turning to those around her, “You’re a pollutant! Too much Co2. We have to start now. Please — you are so great. I’m so happy that you are supporting a Green New Deal, but it’s not enough. Even if we were to bomb Russia, it’s not enough. There’s too many people, too much pollution. So, we have to get rid of the babies. That’s a big problem. Just stopping having babies just isn’t enough. We need to eat the babies. This is very serious. Please give a response.”

Congratulations, America- we are officially living in a world I made up as a joke.

That’s either a brilliant troll or a seriously deranged woman……either way that story had me lol’ing this AM.
I’m thinking (hoping?) troll.
Of course it’s a troll.
However, it will be interesting to see if it becomes another “it’s ok to be white,” or merely an “Islam is right about women.”
Hey, Derpe. Don’t normally see you in the morning. How goes?
All is well – I had a surprise weigh-in and and physical fitness test this morning, which sucked because I was on leave for all of August and was really out of shape when I got back. I walked 250 miles over the past month to get back to fighting weight.
I can haz Ranger tab now?
I did my weigh-in and pt test in July before leave because I didn’t want to worry about it when I got back. So much for that.
Oh, well. Not my first rodeo. All’s well that ends well.
Glad it ended well.
“I can haz Ranger tab now?”
Depends, are you a woman?
No, definitely XY type. Can I identify as someone who is 1 inch taller? That would be great.
Are you a 2nd Lt.? In my old unit the Ranger School slots were passed out like Halloween candy to Platoon Leaders.
Alas, I am but a lowly buck sergeant. Maximum paperwork, minimum perks.
I could probably get an airborne slot when I re-enlist. Russell Volckmann was in his 40s when he got his wings, and he went on to found Army Special Forces with Wendell Fertig.
My medium term plan is to be an instructor for my MOS. I’m tempted to make a career of the Army just for the challenge of trying to stop it from hitting itself on the head with a hammer.
I’m 34 and the almost 4 years I’ve been in the Army is the longest time I’ve had the same job. I’d like to do 20 years if I can.
Maybe you’ve already thought about it but please allow me to suggest the Warrant Officer route. It’s the best of both worlds with probably the least amount of BS for a world which runs on BS.
I have thought about going warrant. My only complaint is that for me it would involve more buttonology and less what I trained for.
Still, it’s an option.
I like the idea of retiring with a pension at 51. Then I can go out west and dig up dinosaur bones. Young me would be pleased.
Nice job, Derpy. I only made my e5 because my gun system (Vulcan SHORAD) was done away with and the promotion points plummeted. I got promoted while I was 2 weeks out from ETS. I would also wholeheartedly endorse Tejicano’s Warrant Officer idea. Our motor pool Chief had a great plaque in his office – “When you commission something, you order it to be made. When you warrant something, you guarantee that it works.”
This is the correct answer.
Also, I LOVE this shirt. https://images.app.goo.gl/RYNtQUfdTEwh65fWA
From time to time, I am asked: why aren’t you an officer?
I’m tempted to answer: because someone has to do the work.
That’s a little mean. When Omar Bradley was a young officer, his first job was to guard a copper mine in Montana during WW1. I suspect he was not thrilled by that assignment, but it sure didn’t hurt his career.
The rat race of climbing the ranks and accumulating fruit salad gets tiresome quickly.
I forget whether it was Clausewitz or Frederick the Great who said the best workers are smart and lazy, because they find the most efficient ways of doing things.
Retiring from the military is a good gig if you can pull it off. It was part of my original goal when I first enlisted – back when the wheel was a new and interesting idea. Somehow, decades later, I was able to get back in and pull it off as a reservist and with no time to spare.
I forget whether it was Clausewitz or Frederick the Great who said the best workers are smart and lazy, because they find the most efficient ways of doing things.
Von Moltke
I was offered a warrant in lieu of a commission, I opted for Inf OCS, got commissioned at 29, got a branch transfer to Sig Corps (my EM MOS skills). Was lucky to get 10 years just before mandatory retirement (as reserve off).
I skipped Airborne School out of OCS to go to a long tech school.
Give that woman a medal.
” I love that you support the Green Deal,”
I’m going to defend AOC here. This is like saying to Paul McCartney, “I love that you’re a fan of the Beatles”

Well it’s probably a better idea than giving babies the vote.
I went browsing through the comments of a meme page on Facebook. It’s kind of like here, sans the intellectual parts and ten times more inability to read social queues.
I supposed it was just TEAM partisans yelling at each other in ALL CAPS.
/every place but here
Yeah, I avoid comment sections like the plague, present company excluded, natch.
Oh, we’re a plague, probably the third plague, lice or gnats.
I kind of pictured us a the rain of frogs but you do you.
We’re not French!
Speak for yourself.
One of the worst I’ve encountered is the comment section of The Federalist……it made old TOS seem like a bastion of articulation and civility. I don’t know why but it surprised me.
Humor, civility and reasonable interaction are stone-dead. Pick a side, any side!
Those things are not taught anymore.
If you want to decimate your faith in humanity check out the comments at ZeroHedge. Even without all the Jew hate it’s the worst comment section on the internet.
Worse than Salon?
I think DU wins that contest if you exclude the (((hate))).
So what you’re saying is, we need to up our game?
Zero Hedge is like the worst thing you can read if you’re in the least bit doom’n’gloom, the apocalypse is coming, prepare for the second coming of Christ within the year.
Between ZH and my church suddenly stressing emergency preparedness yet AGAIN, I spent a lot of money with not very much effectiveness on preps.
Except I didn’t really know what to prepare FOR, I didn’t have a bugout location (PANIC!!!), my 72-hour kits were too heavy, and I had sample MREs I didn’t want to eat.
ZH put me in the looney bin.
Also, all the ((())) bashing made me utterly ill. WTF, people. I didn’t know there was a bad word for (((them))) till my mid-20s. Never met (((one))), and was taught that (((they))) were God’s chosen people and grew up in two religious cultures that had a cultural crush on (((them))).
ZH shocked me, no joke.
Prepare for a zombie apocalype and a plague of hemmoragic fever. If you live near water, also prep for flooding. That should cover most eventualities.
I read somewhere that preppers use a zombie apocalypse as their test scenario. If you’re ready for that, you’re ready for anything.
Well, it’s an ideal test scenario. You have to assume the need to treat injury, maintain basics of life, prevent biohazard contamination, and deal with hostile individuals with no assumption of outside aid, since your current support circle might have turned.
I used to do some affiliate marketing of a stock picking service, and I used to spam it on ZeroHedge. I remember all the “end is night at hand” shit – it’s been going on since at least 2009.
PS: Just a tip, the hardcore conspiracy nut crowd is not tight-fisted at all when it comes to products that they believe will give them an advantage in “the happening”. Emergency food storage, gold/silver investment guides, etc. Not that these are bad products at all – just throwing it out there that they sell well to a certain demographic.
I tried to watch The Purge, but that shit was scary, man. Could not do it.
@Akira,
I lost my shirt in silver listening to that drivel.
Mind you, I am a person who made money daytrading (no, got out of it before Obama was elected), and I still suckered myself into a panic.
I was more annoyed with it than anything else. A “Purge” would be stupidly easy to survive. Harden up your exterior security, hit the flood lights when the sun goes down, gun up, you’ll be fine. In my neighborhood (end of the road surrounded by desert, a small neighborhood watch could easily keep the whole neighborhood clear.
Bonus: Its a Purge, so anybody who is out and about is fair game. I’d probably set up with the .300 on a rise looking down the main approach. Nobody would get within 200 yards who I didn’t want within 200 yards.
All you have to do is not live around murderous assholes. Very few people are going to randomly kill just because it’s not illegal.
Not just preppers.
Our good friends at the CDC.
It’s kind of like here, sans the intellectual parts…
I buy that.
…and ten times more inability to read social queues.
*tilts head like a confused puppy*
Not possible.
I’m baffled. In preparation for asking someone else to take a look at something that wasn’t working, I reset the syntax to something reasonable. All of a sudden, it’s working. I could have sworn I tried this configuration syntax before.

Investigating the Dems is a defacto crime now, you ought to know that.
They are all over the personal destruction tactic lately.
Barr and Giuliani are up for disbarment and prosecution. John Solomon is being attacked personally on multiple fronts.
They are definitely afraid, for the first time in many years.
They still seem to think they will get away with it and retake all power though. Nobody in the media has broken ranks yet.
“The Seahawks topped the Rams last night in a game few people east of the Rockies even realized was on.l
Anyone know why the refs have such a hardon for Matthews? Even the retired ref in the booth said the roughing call that arguably decided the game was bullshit. And they flagged the crap out of him last year for tickytack bullshit.
It looked to me on the replay that Matthews’s shoulder whacked Wilson’s face and head after the initial hit. Dunno if that’s what triggered the flag.
They do seem to have it in for Matthews for some reason.
It was a bullshit call. Shoulder to shoulder hit fractions of a second after the ball was released.
Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek is a cunt.
Glawischnig-Piesczek, the victim of the hate speech, hailed the decision as “a historic success for human rights against web giants”.
You heard it. Calling someone ‘corrupt’ is hate speech and a ‘victory for human rights’.
And it’s a disturbing trend. The corrupt, groper douche bag Justin has been playing tough guy with Facebook about ‘hate speech’ and has even bribed media with $500 probably to try and get them to play nice with him. If this guy gets re-elected, watch out. If you think he’s an arrogant lump of sub-mediocre brain cells now, you ain’t seen n-n-n-nothing yet.
Trudi is just taking care of business, rollin’ on, as it were.
This decision just opens a niche for those companies that will rightfully tell the EU to get fucked. Facebook is a dying platform anyway.
You misspelled “cunte”.
Yes. Yes he did.
Corrupt Green party politician thinks such authoritarianism will never be turned around and used against the goodthinkers.

Yusef, Bringer of Serenity?
He’s got my vote.
“The situations described in the suit arose during a master class in sex scenes that Franco taught at the school, which he opened in 2014 and closed in 2017…
The lawsuit alleges that to take Franco’s master class, students had to audition by simulating sex acts on film, which he watched to choose candidates.
It says the class began with “encouraging female student actors to appear topless, then perform in sex scenes, then orgies and gratuitous full nudity,” without the careful guidelines and closed sets that are the industry standard for shooting sex scenes.”
So he is being sued because people had to simulate sex acts for a class about how to do sex scenes?
Well, yeah, if they were already able to do them, what value add could he be bringing to the table?
Give the guy credit. It’s a good gig if you can get it.
Which, I assume, was voluntary? If they objected why didn’t they just decline to participate in the class?
He Svengali’d them, man! They couldn’t resist his evil powers!
Or they wanted roles in actual productions, which he could facilitate. Which sounds like a business transaction.

After the recent performances from Brennan and Mudd on TV, I’ve come to the conclusion that barring some major turn of events, I must vote for Trump in 2020.
Any other vote is a vote for the permanent bureaucracy. It’s not even about the Democrats anymore.
Change my mind.
Trump has the deep state in his pocket and all this is actually created to get you to vote for Trump. Think about it the deep state torpedoed Hillary for him. That’s why they did the initial investigation into Trump, to appear impartial or even hostile to Trump.
Obligatory
I read Trump as the kind of guy that would go crazy from boredom if he didn’t get his conflict main-lined at least five times per day. He revels in this stuff. If he weren’t the President he’d be acting the same damn way.
I don’t know about that. There’s an old video of him somewhere testifying to congress about renovating some government building. It’s almost like watching a different person.
I’m pretty sure Trump is just playing a character for public consumption that’s loosely based on the real Trump.

Deblasio is dead wrong as always. The NYPD is, from my observations living here for the past 14 years, the most poorly trained armed agency I’ve ever seen. This incident transpired across the street from our apartment and was the final impetus for us to flee Brooklyn. The article is hoot; here’s what really happened – gang-banger 1 was beefing with gang-banger 2 at the West-Indian Day Parade; they both go there separate ways. GB1 is in his apartment on our block when he spies GB2 walking by on his way to his apartment (also on the block). GB1 rushes out the front door and squeezes off a couple shots at GB2. A gaggle of NYPD are on the corner, about half a block away. Upon hearing the gunfire, NYPD all draw and start dumping their magazines in the direction of the gunfire. 73 NYPD shots fired – 1 round strikes GB1 (wounding him), another strikes Mrs. Gay (a lovely old lady, a neighborhood fixture in her rocking chair on her porch) in the head, killing her instantly. The city tried to blame GB1 but he was firing away from Mrs. Gay’s position. Fun addendum – Bloomberg held a gun-control rally in front of Mrs. Gay’s building. I passed out a bunch a flyers I printed up from TruthAboutGuns and kept interrupting/heckling every God Damned one of those opportunistic corpse-fucking freedom haters with questions about police firearms training, range qualification metrics, and demands that these Barney Fifes go back to wheelguns as semi-automatic actions are too much for their impulse-control to resist.
No reckless discharge charges were brought?
No… the City was still reeling from the murder of Sean Bell and this incident was swept away.
Yeah, I don’t remember hearing about this incident at all.
Crown Heights? Yikes, sorry.
That’s NUTS.
I guess little old ladies in a wheel chair getting killed by police incompetence isn’t a national story. Put a (pick a non-white ethnicity here) tranny in her place and presto! CNN outrage!
Heroes in blue.
*rage*
Our daughter was 7 months old, we were looking for a bigger place in same neighborhood. I loved that neighborhood. It was rapidly gentrifying; boarded up buildings were turning into restaurants and grocers, the Plexiglas was coming down in the Chinese restaurants, and the liquor stores were beginning to allow customers to touch the bottles. But, FUCK IT! I’m not raising my kid (now kids) there. We stumbled upon a Craigslist ad for a place in Rockaway Beach and never looked back. Now we have a fenced yard, a garage, and beach out the back door. I don’t miss Brooklyn at all.
You know, punks from NYC hitch rides to Rockaway Beach.
Well, to be fair, it’s not hard to reach.
Fun Fact – there is one of those wooden cartoon cutouts for taking pictures at one the boardwalk concessionaires that is a caricature of The Ramones.
Rockaway Beach is NYC 😛
Except for the fanatical tyranny of the Parks Dept., you would never know it.
I’ve tooled around Staten Island a few times – like this awesome place – you’d really never guess that was NYC either.
WOW! I had no idea that was out there. I would love to go.
On the La Tourette Golf Course, do they yell “Shitballs” when they tee off?
Here is another must-see.
Looks like a prime location for a museum with all that parking availability.
Snug Harbor has a really cool history. It was founded in 1806 as a retirement home for old sailors but by the 1960s was in need of renovation. They wanted to build a new facility but in swooped the NYC Landmark and Preservation Board to declare the old decrepit buildings a historic landmark. After some legal wrangling, the Sailor’s Home (realizingjust how valuable the land was) sold it to the City and bought a huge spread down in North Carolina.
The sun is out, do you want some?
Good for you dude. I loved living downtown when I was younger. Now the ‘burbs are getting too crowded for me!
Wifey is about 4000 days out from retirement, then it’s off to rural Florida. I miss pine trees and palmetto scrub.
So… a decade and change?
Yep. Right around the time our oldest is finishing high school and heading to (hopefully) Tallahassee. Wifey has a countdown thingy on her phone to let her know the exact day.
Did they go home safely after their shift? Because that’s all that matters.
JFC
73 shots?!?! SEVENTY-THREE.
And that is the official number. I would remain skeptical if that was the true total.
How many cops were shooting? Unless there were a bunch, that would mean they were reloading while firing blind down the street.
Every Cop who shoots get’s a paid vacation.
That’s more than I could have done, I0b0t. Good on ya for standing up!
I’m not normally one to ‘get involved’. I tend towards Agorism and try to quietly disregard anyone’s attempt to put their authority on me but I was enraged and insulted that they would come on my block and use the NYPD’s negligent homicide of a neighbor to barber for further restrictions on our ability to protect ourselves.
They still issuing Glocks with like 15-lb triggers that pretty much require a flinch to pull the trigger?
My personal favorite. For those who don’t know 42nd street during most hours and in any weather short of a hail storm is mobbed with people.

My question: where the fuck are the cops? You’d think industrial scale vandalism of a public building would be ng they’d stop, but if anything it looks like they cleared the street for the lunatics and their fire engine o’ paint.
Funniest part is that none of those doofusii even knew where the shut-off valve was. You go to all that trouble and expense to make your point and then don’t even know the basics. The modern left, writ large Folks!
You go to all that trouble and expense to make your point and then don’t even know the basics.
Oh, come on! This is stuff that even the common folk can do! If some buffoon only a step up from a chav can master that sort of thing, how hard should it be for a graduate student in literary criticism, alternative gender studies or trasgressive puppetry?
Have you not read Fahrenheit 451?
That’s the one where the pigs take over Mars, right?
I was asking the same thing watching protesters tear down a Robert E Lee statue in 2017……the LEO within earshot earnestly saID;
“Officer safety, probably wasn’t safe to go in there”
I damn near bit off my tongue not responding;
“Then what the fuck do we pay you for?”
“Donuts.”
I wish we paid them “in donuts” insead
I would think a police officer employed by the state that wasn’t in favor of the state controlling ever more parts of life would be rare.
Controlling YOUR life, keeping the peace doesn’t seem to be a prerogative, especially when it comes to dipshit protesters
“…keeping the peace…”
OH! Keeping the PEACE! – Now I get it. All this time I was wondering how much chutzpah they had saying they are keeping a piece (of the action).
You’d think industrial scale vandalism of a public building would be ng they’d stop, but if anything it looks like they cleared the street for the lunatics and their fire engine o’ paint.
Ask yourself two questions. Who runs the local police? Who runs the government that the building is part of?
This will be even funnier than Obama or Arafat winning. And by “funny”, I mean pathetic.
I don’t know about that, she certainly has fewer killings on her ledger.

I’ll never forget cruising in my buddies Jeep in college when the wheel fell off while we were going 45 mph…….it was scary to say the least
Coming back from camp and the boss is towing the “crummy”. Wailing along at 120 klicks and something went wrong. Boss slows down and the entire back axle of the trailer bounds past us on the highway. We used to ride in that thing back and forth to the cut-block.

Kamala Harris asks crowd if America is ready for her presidency.
Crowd shouts: “No!”
The entire crowd was later arrested
Not enjoying much about this Presidential campaign (do I ever?), but seeing Kamala crash and burn has put a smile on my face.
She sounds really stupid or drugged. Is she like Obama and simply incoherent without a teleprompter and a lot of coaching?
That’s because America is filled with peace-loving racists.
She got the answer she was hoping to get. She is that far up her own ass.
She really is a poor speaker. No inflection in her voice at all.
She needs some pointers from Jesse Jackson who I disagree with about everything, but the guy knew/knows how to speak publicly. He learned from one of the greats.

You misunderstand. Her constituency either don’t consider themselves Americans, or are embarrassed to be one. So when she asks if “America is ready for Harris”, her audience hears “Are those racists, sexist, wall-building, NASCAR watching, baby-making troglodytes ready for a Black Woman” they say no, those other people are not.
And the whole lot are fool enough to not realize it makes for bad optics that scupper a sinking presidnetial campaign.
Then why did she immediately correct the audience with a yes they are?

That explains why Nancy caved on the impeachment issue. Trump is getting too close to her shenanigans as well.
She’s just continuing the family tradition.
Desperation. Their ploy to cover up/distract from the DOJ/FBI intel op against Trump failed (although I still will be surprised to see anybody stand trial). This is the same playbook, only run mainly to cover up/distract corruption and their own attempts to use the Ukraine against Trump.
What they failed to learn the first time is that Trump, much like Ward or Gotti, is perfectly willing to wade in and throw punches right back. They make “foreign interference” a high profile issue, and Trump is only too happy to take them up on it.
Nice call-back, Dean! *does kissy finger thingy*

The idea that crimes are things someone else does, and your own wrong doing is just the way things work, is not rare.
Up until somebody blackmails you, anyway
I’m sure the U.S. news didn’t cover this because it was just too local.
Or because the media is mostly the outer circle of the same corrupt, insular, circle-jerk. I remember a couple of years ago running into a list a couple of years ago of how many major journalistic figures were related by blood or marriage to the key figures of the Democratic establishment. It was sobering. And that doesn’t even start into how many of the leading journalistic figures’ entire reason for being in front of the camera is their background with the Party. Hell, a lot of them (Matthews, Stephanopolous) even brag about it.
Good (late) morning everyone. In the past week my grandmother’s been in the hospital after emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction, my dog’s dying and I got into a car accident (little damage to either car, their fault). I’ll have the country song written in the next week.

That’s Beto getting a flu shot. It looks like someone’s already confiscated his guns.
Get a nurse by him, he is going to pass out! That’s a lot of trauma he just took.
Damn dude, good thing I wasn’t taking a drink then.
What the fuck is it with Democrat politicians livestreaming themselves doing mundane, everyday stuff like getting a flu shot or cooking macaroni?
It’s like they’re always stuck in this schizophrenic dance where they’re trying to portray themselves as just an average Joe like all of us but simultaneously a superior being gifted with godlike judgement who should therefore rule over all of us.
Pretty much. They know they don’t connect to normal people well, and have little in common with the electorate. So they overcompensate at appearing “normal”.
Yeah, nothing says “I’m a normie like you” more than having somebody come to your fucking office to give you a flu shot. Christ, I work in a hospital where its mandatory to get a flu shot and we dish out thousands every year, and I have to walk across campus to get one.
I think it’s been a thing since they went after Bush Sr for not knowing what a gallon of milk cost.

https://youtu.be/2ErCXUyHVIY
“There’s an idiot backing up at a stop sign and poop backing up in Grandma” is the kind of song that just writes itself, really.
JB sorry about your bad week.
30 seconds,
My dog died and grannies sick,
just changed a tire,
and my car got hit,
what a wonderful day,
that turned to shit,
Give this man a Grammy.
What is that? A dose of weed?
The Grammy’s less valuable.
I larfed
Grandmother can’t poop
Shit driver crushes metal
The Gods frown on me
too Deth Metal, I like it though
Hey Bob! Nice to hear that things are grinding into a positive gear for you and yours!
thanks! leaving in an hour to sign papers,
Same here, Yusef. Missed the details, though. (hint hint)
RC, there aren’t many jobs for me in this little town, but I think I snagged one,
Excellent. I don’t know how you held it together so long on the road.
It’s Haiku you heathen!
Also congrats on the new gig!
Like a Japanese cowboy.
JB,
Rascal Flatts has got you covered

Sorry man.
Hope you figure what you’re doing wrong soon.
Sorry to hear all that. I hope it gets better.
Sorry to hear that. I hope things turn up for you soon!
Sorry to hear that , Friend. On Saturday I attempt to apply heat wire to my eaves. I have vertigo. It will be splendid.
Tie yourself to another person on the ground on the opposite side of the house who’s heavier than you and can act as a counterweight if you slip.
I’d make a Wifey joke but she might read this over my shoulder and then I would become the counterweight.
As soon as we move (into a rental, thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster), I will not need my ladders anymore. I don’t mind ladders, except on stairs.
*Shudders* Legitimate shudders. I used to be a monkey but I’ve lost my balance. I’ve read that it’s because the fluid in your inner ear loses viscosity as you age. All that I know is that if I tried to stand on one foot with my eyes closed I’d be like one of those fainting goats. Showers are another bother.
When I lived in Wisconsin and had second story gutters (and it was a tall second story) I used to clean them every year by climbing a ladder up. Thinking back, I can’t believe I didn’t kill myself. Do. Not. Like. Ladders. My sense of balance sucks.
I bought silver close to the peak in 2009 or so, so I feel your pain. Still have it and don’t plan to sell it, so what I paid really doesn’t matter now (although I would certainly prefer to have gotten it cheaper).
That is exactly what I did. I sold it at nearly half what I paid, but I needed the money. It’s stayed steady in the high teens for decades, except for that one moment in time, so I don’t expect it to ever rise that much again.
You folks missed the Hunt brothers in the 1980s
Sorry to read.
Since the week is sucking – here is the Fall Anime schedule.
https://www.livechart.me/fall-2019/tv
Not a lot that suits my interests, but I think you are an SAO fan? However, I’ll be watching people’s clothing fall off during Shokugeki no Souma: Shin no Sara.
Not an SAO fan (except for GGO). My anime for the season will probably be Azur Lane (hey, if I liked KanColle I’ll probably like that) and Rifle is Beautiful, for the intersection of slice of life anime and guns. A lot more coming for me in the winter season.
I was not a huge fan of KanColle, but didn’t hate it. Let me know how Azur Lane turns out and maybe I will give it a shot.
My son and I have a new warmharted tradition of watching crunchyroll for an hour before bed. He got hooked on Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken. Please send help.
I never knew SF was black: https://youtu.be/uzyGk85WZu8?t=745 (courtesy of TOS)
Nah, too stylish.
“Are we awake?”
“We’re not sure. Are we black?”
“Yes, we are.”
“Then we’re awake. But we’re very puzzled.”
“Since I am your host and you are my guest, what’s your pleasure? What is it that you like to do?”
“I don’t know…play chess….screw”
“Well, let’s play chess”
Hi everybody!
“Hi, Doctor Prick!” j/k
Yusef! You start a new job today? Good luck!
I’m signing papers and crap today, when I start? Saturday? Monday? I’ll keep you posted TBS
*The Fifth Column Podcast*
Welch: I mean, if it’s a question of who is more honest- the intelligence community or orange man then clearly the intelligence community
Moynihan: Right
Welch: I mean, when you’re not a partisan you realize that the CIA and FBI are by far the most noble parts of the federal government
Moynihan: Ahhhh…I think the Education Department would like a word
Welch: Right. Well, they’re up there too
Kmele: What the fuck is wrong with you two?
Welch: You say that all the time, Kmele, because you’re alt-right
Kmele: What? How am I alt-right?
Moynihan: You read Rothbard
Welch: Yup
Moynihan: Dude wanted to shut-down the CIA and FBI
Welch: That’s some Nazi shit right there
Moynihan: Not to mention that the CIA is by far….*loud gagging*…ERRRRR….
Welch: You OK?
Moynihan: *loud gagging*….ERRRRR
Welch: Moynihan?….You alright?
Moynihan: Sorry. I was just gagging. You know how sometimes it’s hard to swallow when you get a big gulp?
Welch: Happens to the best of us
Kmele: Jesus Christ
Moynihan: Anyways, let me do the sponsorship. Who’s up?
Welch: Ahhh…”Always tampons” is our sponsor for this episode
Kmele: What the fuck is wrong with you two?
It’s looking more and more that he was dead-on right on that.
Of note, that was in the LP party platform at least until 2000.
It sounded bat-shit insane to me back then but I’ve evolved on the subject. When Bush II went into Iran and the hue and cry was raised by the usual suspects I just shrugged. “He waited too long…” Back then I didn’t internet.
The Jacket snarkily called Dave Smith Alt-right because he quotes Rothbard. It’s either a testament to Vichy libertarians medaciousness or stupidity that they constantly try to make that connection.
Thaddeus Russell pushed back on that contention when Gillespie said that. So, it’s not like anyone takes that talking point seriously (well, not at least anyone who is even vaguely familiar with Rothbard).
But, this is meant to be funny. Not to arouse anger. I just think Moynihan gagging while praising the FBI is just too spot on

nicely done.
I was nervous at first with that stuff.
In order for the Royals to lecture people around the world on the environment… they have to ship their armored limos around the world.
Oh come now, Harry is dropping fast in terms of succession.
Let them fly commerical economy and rent a local fiat.
Why are they shipping armadilloes?
OHHHH,
Why haven’t the British people put a stop to this nonsense:
“Hey queen, you’re really old so you get to ride out your life as a pensioner. Everyone else, you can probably ride out your lives on your celebrity and your children should have no problem getting a good education and profession. The Royal budget is hereby cancelled henceforth.
Last I checked, a lot of their budget was paid for with personal landholdings. So a revision to the privy purse to remove public funding is really all it takes.
IIRC, the Royals far more than make up for their portion of the budget with the amount of tourist income they bring in.
Yeah, I won’t shit on them too much but it seems that when they marry outside their gene pool is when problems arise.
There used to be a requirement that somebody marrying into nobility had to bring something to party. I guess not anymore, because I see pretty much zero value-add from Meghan.
Amusing factoid: when an aristocratic family was having money troubles, the usual solution was to bring in a rich bride for one of their sons. This was referred to as “manuring the fields”.
Meghan is cute, but that’s about all she has going, near I can tell.
Any royalty that aren’t looping off heads, leading crusades, and recklessly exercising their right of prima nocta are complete wastes of space.
Yeah, I won’t shit on them too much but it seems that when they marry outside their gene pool is when problems arise.
^ Yeah. This.^
The royals have a very specific job. And it isn’t politics. They’re supposed to be above politics. As I said before, they’re there to represent the whole country. They’re supposed to be aspirational to the entirety of the body politic. It’s not supposed to matter if you’re Labor or Tory, white or black or brown. The monarchy is supposed to be that national unifying presence.
I don’t think American-style celebrities really can understand what the entire royalty thing means. They’re used to thinking in terms of “fitting in with the right people” or being among the “beautiful people”. But, royalty isn’t supposed to be among the right people. The right people, the beautiful people,at least in the royalty game, are supposed to be below them. Making sure the public knows you’re on the “right side” of global warming might have some meaning or value for a celebrity. For a royal, you’re just debasing yourself to the position of another voice scampering in the din of politics.
Great point. I think Americans, celebrities included, look at the royals and think, “Oh, famous people. We’ve got famous people, too.” But it’s more than that, like you say. That’s why Americans marrying into the royal family have such a hard time.
That’s my understanding. This is a British issue and I don’t have a real opinion about it one way or the other, but the thing that does stick out to me is that there seems to be a correlation between Brits who are outraged that there’s a royal family that gets tax revenue and the anti-Brexit/Oceania set. The monarchy isn’t offending their republican sensibilities, in other words.
Like TGA said yesterday, ‘Conservative’ has very different connotations in Europe. I want the term ‘liberal’ back
Yeah, the terms go through a blender crossing the ocean to get here. There isn’t a damn thing liberal about the people who call themselves “liberals” in the US.
I am pleased to see that the far left seems to be eschewing the term ‘liberal’ to distinguish themselves from moderates. Eventually we may get it back.
God save the Queen,
Cause tourists are money
Larouche assured me it was all paid for with sweet sweet drug money.
Sorry, we only have bitter pills.
+1 Dope Inc.
The queen seems to be old-school in that she sees the royals’ role as sort of detached, ceremonial, and symbolic–none of which should imply a lack of value or importance. Charles I think was very much cut from the same cloth, and William seems to be of the same mind. It’s Harry, and really Meghan, who wants to use the position. Diana was the same way as I recall, albeit to a slightly lesser extent. At the risk of sounding snooty, there really does seem to be something to the notion that the hoi-polloi really don’t know how to handle themselves in the aristocracy.
And to get back to the symbolism bit, we’ve got a special building that the President lives in, so we can’t really say too much about it. After all, it would be cheaper for the President to just have a suite of offices in a secure, brutalist office building in DC.
Diana was the same way as I recall, albeit to a slightly lesser extent.
Weren’t landmines her hobby horse to justify her royal privileges?
I think we know what her “hobby horse” was.
You are thinking of Catherine the Great.
Neigh.
That rings a bell. I think she was big into Live Aid too. She also did a lot of mingling with the common people type of stuff. She was kind of celebrated as someone who had the common touch, counterbalancing Charles. But like I say, there’s a reason that even we, a country established on the principles of social equality, built a palace for our chief of state to live in. The symbolism is important, and I think Diana and now Meghan missed the point.
Agreed.
Hey, Obama did it, and he was The Light Bringer, so it can’t be wrong.
Plus he and his wife get to green-light shows on Netflix! It’s a win for woke!
And HRC was The Light itself, alas the Prince of Darkness came and plunged us into the age of Chaos and despair
Who knew the Age of Chaos and Despair would be so entertaining?
You won’t be laughing when we all drown in the prog tears.
SMOD hardest hit,
I kinda feature it this way https://youtu.be/xHEMkbyXFxs
*daubs some more mud on the the withy* “Aye, hard times coming whether Baron or bastard…”
What’s amazing here is that we may be witnessing the end of the British monarchy (a long time wish of the British far-left) due to their progressive politics. Historically it’s always been the staunchly conservative elements (the “Old Tories” as they are known) who have been the most defensive of the monarchy. If they start losing that support they won’t have much support left.
“They’re naught but usurping Krauts” – my fiercely royalist (Scots/Canadian) step-grandfather.
I tip my hat to your step-grandfather for rightly calling out those trashy German usurpers
I still support the claim of the last legitimate King of England – Harold Godwinson.
Which may lend creedence to the tabloid articles about the Feud between Harry & Meghan Vs. the rest of the family.
Meghan may well be their undoing.
Nah, he’s not in the main line of succession anymore. They can be disowned and ejected without serious disruption.
I think Brexit may be their undoing. If Johnson goes YOLO and just decides “the only way to do this is to ignore parliament and crash out” there is going to be A LOT of pressure from the British press and elites for the monarchy to stop Johnson which would violate the long standing precedent of the royals not involving themselves in politics. I think this is the most likely scenario of how this all ends
Nah, they’ll endure. What’s a little accident by car or by boat, at this point?
“Harold. I had your mother dealt with. Don’t think I won’t do it to your wife.”
What’s amazing here is that we may be witnessing the end of the British monarchy (a long time wish of the British far-left) due to their progressive politics.
Possibly. But, I doubt it. Remember, for all Harry and Meghan’s mugging, it’s William and Kate who are going to be king and queen. And they already have an heir. Harry and Meghan can easily enough be relegated to the role of insignificant cousins. I mean, when’s the last time you heard of Princess Anne?
My impression is that Elizabeth is very protective of the crown as an institution. She’ll indulge her grandson, but not to the point of putting the institution at risk.
I have a feeling the monarchy is the only thing stopping the UK from turning into France, or worse.
