I guess actions have consequences. And sometimes it takes a couple years for those consequences to be fully realized. But I doubt Baker Mayfield understands that. Dude needs to get his head out of his ass or he’s gonna be Johnny Football 2.0. And I don’t really have a dog in this fight. But he really needs to sharpen shit up, and so does the rest of his team.
Meanwhile, the Yankees swept their way into the ALCS. Hopefully the Astros will join them today, after getting shelled by the Rays yesterday to extend the series. Meanwhile, both NLDS’s will go to a win-or-go-home game 5 tomorrow. That will be a lot more fun to watch if the Astros take care of business today. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets topped the Sabres in OT and the Blues made Toronto sad in the Scotiabank Center.
My mom turns 70 today. Love you, mom! She shares it with: “Ace of aces” Eddie Rickenbacker, leftist strongman Juan Peron, the guy who wrote the book they based the “Dune” movie on Frank Herbert, legendary Aussie actor Paul Hogan, race-baiter Jesse Jackson, comedic genius Chevy Chase, punk legend Johnny Ramone, dwarf-person Dennis Kucinich, the lovely Sigourney Weaver, Awesome Bill From Dawsonville, other punk rock legend C.J. Ramone, MATT DAMON, and Bella Thorne.
That was a decent list. Mostly because it was headlined by my mom. Love you, mom! Now on to…the links!
I guess all of those warnings about people causing problems at the Joker movie were right after all. I hope those people affected will be ok.
Trump is threatening Turkey now to lay off the Kurds after basically giving them the green light to attack Syria. OK, fine. Now bring the troops back home that are scattered all over that shitty region.
I remember being a kid and having someone say “just walk it off” or “rub some dirt in it” when I got hurt. Those people are qualified to be doctors in Venezuela now. Way to go, socialism. Way to go.
An NBA owner said the stupidest fucking thing I’ll hear all day. How hard is it to support individual liberty, people? I mean…come on.
Sorry, sweetie. But I’m not sure there’s a “doing cocaine with the devil” defense in Virginia. Well, unless your name’s Hunter Biden.
California has gas prices twice the national average. And now their regressive energy policies are about to cause even more ridiculous shit to happen to her residents. I only hope Tractor Supply has enough pitchforks available to keep up with demand. You get what you pay for, people. You get what you pay for.
And a pair of eagerly-awaited free association cases are headed to the Supreme Court today. Expect a lot of protesting and hand-wringing. And calls for impeachment, obviously.
Man, I’m not a huge fan of the pretentious bastard. But this is an absolutely wonderful song.
That’s all I got today, friends. Except to say “love you, mom!” Now go have a great day!
The NBA sucks. That is all.
Any sport needs cohesive rules in order to enjoy playing or at least be entertaining to watch. The NBA has been “Calvinball” for thirty years. The NFL should have taken notes but they didn’t.
I hope this blows up in their faces and they lose US viewership as a result. Fuck them for kowtowing to the ChiComs like this.
One can hope.
Haven’t they already lost most of what they had in the 80’s?
Festus is right – they chucked out the rule book so people would pay to watch Michael Jordan make crazy moves without getting called for traveling, carries, or offensive fouls. That’s when I lost interest.
Tanya Peters:
You’re all man. I like that in my men.
Frank Drebin:
You’re coming on to me big time, sister. You’re preying on me like a kitten with a fresh mouse. And we got a problem.
Tanya Peters:
You’re Jewish?
Frank Drebin:
No. You’re Rocko’s girl, and in my book that chapter’s called “look but don’t touch.”
Tanya Peters:
I could have two lovers.
Frank Drebin:
Kinky. But I like my sex the way I play basketball, one on one with as little dribbling as possible.
My Dad played in College in the late 50’s. He stopped watching after about 1990 or so.
That’s when they stopped calling traveling and the 3-point-shot became pervasive – which is why I stopped watching too.
Yeah, but this still made me laugh.
That’s been the Globetrotters move for years.
This here is why I sucked at dribble-ball…
I’m still irrationally annoyed about the Raptors “The North” jerseys.
My biggest gripe w/ roundball (besides excessive fouls): shorts too baggy now. Bring back ’70s unis!
It *is* getting ridiculous. In soccer it was trendy a couple years ago to pair those parachute shorts with skin-tight spandex tops. *face-palm*
Concerning the Supreme Court cases, Congress could act to make LGBTQWERTY a protected class instead of relying on the courts to stretch the words of the original legislation to the breaking point.
Or, here’s a crazy thought, respect the right to free association as enshrined in the constitution.
Nah. They’ll just call it “judicial activism” if the court reads the legislation as written and all for mass impeachments and/or court packing the next time their side wins the executive.
This will happen. They’ve tasted bitter defeat and now it’s payback time.
*snort*
Journos and smear merchants hardest hit.
Everybody knows smoking ain’t allowed at school.
Never fear! A local movie theater has went all hipster and installed a bar and I’m checking it out this weekend. Can I make national news? Let’s find out!
Man, I went to see Samantha Fish at The Troubadour Friday and it was pretty damn pussified. It’s a rock show at and old school Hollywood rock club and half the people were silently standing still and filming it with their cameras. I was probably subject to arrest for disturbing the peace the whole time, between hooting and hollering and calling out the second band to play Freebird!
I dig Samantha Fish. From the videos that I’ve seen she really brings it. Sounds like a case of right venue/wrong crowd. Well, at least you took one for the team blackjack!
Oh, cool. I just learned about The Troubadour last night from watching “Rocketman,” which I found disappointing overall, despite some good storytelling techniques.
I’ve heard a little of her stuff but not much. Which is kinda messed up seeing as she’s local and I like blues music. The local community radio station 90.1 will play some of her stuff on weekend mornings but I’ve never given her a fair shake. Need to delve into her music more…plus, she’s cute.
She works those gams, that’s fer certain.
Patrons smoking stuff and drinking in a theater? Good thing these nannies weren’t at the premier of Heavy Metal in my home town circa 1981. It sounded like the intro to Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” except for the bottles rolling down the aisle and the odd Kabloosh of an exploded beer on the floor.
Heavy Metal, oh man. I didn’t get to see that u till I was about twelve or so because my father had heard somewhere that it was subversive to Christianity. Keep in mind two things. One, my father was the guy who would put those old Chick publications Repent or Burn in Hell!!! paper books/comics in public areas and once told me the Devil was corrupting my soul because I refused to eat Shepard’s Pie, and two, would let me rent movies like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Haloween, Hellraiser, and similar stuff.
Square that circle for me, if you would.
Oh dear, not even gonna try. I found the movie to be a huge let down from the magazine that I subscribed to. It had its moments but was pretty much a stink-fest so far as I was concerned. The voice casting of John Candy was inspired, though.
All the theaters in Orlando are full alcohol bars. Also, I really like the Joker, so did the wife.
More than 4 names is always a tell. And Cutting seems a little on the nose.
More than 4 names is always a tell.
My youngest has five names. I’m in trouble when I get older, aren’t I?
Nah, there’s never been a nut job named “Justice Forall Sloopy Juneteenth” in the history of the world. I’m safe.
Yes, yes you are.
She’ll be standing watch over your grave if the lessons click.
As long as there isn’t a “Wayne” in there, you should be fine.
Still would.
Ms. Cutting stabbed someone? Too easy.
Also, no one needs five names.
Need’s got nothing to do with it!
She was studying to be an editor.
The US pulled back 50 to 100 “special operators” from Syria’s northern frontier, where they have served as a buffer preventing a long-planned assault by the Turkish military against Kurdish forces in Syria.
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Buffers.
I read that as fluffers. Was gonna offer to hold the “c” light.
Great minds think alike I guess.
Sorry, but I’m going to relish my ignorance on that.
Well, where you live it’s all intentionally blurry, so we’re all ignorant as to what it looks like there.
It’s only blurry for a second or so. Then she passes out.
We need a division of fluffers.
Brooklyn Nets? Isn’t that the asshole who used eminent domain to get his arena built? He’d fit right in, in China.
Alibaba? More like Alibullshit, amirite?
It’s gonna take a long time to repair this, maybe we need a five year plan?
Now do Taiwan.
*head-desk*
I saw they now have Tegridy.
Tard Tuesday: There’s No Rational Reason For Leaving Syria, None Whatsoever
I notice all these fucks say this safely from the US instead of on a plane headed that way to fight side-by-side with the Kurds.
Fuck them all. We should bring every person over there back home overnight. 18 years is long enough.
There have been volunteer and mercenary regiments for hundreds of years. I believe there was an Irish regiment that fought for Spain in the Napoleonic Wars. A number of Americans went to Canada to enlist to fight in WWI before the US entered the war. The Flying Tigers were volunteers in the Chinese Air Force, although granted many of them were active duty American soldiers. I’m sure we can get a bunch of these bloodthirsty TDS berserkers some gear and ship them over so they can show us cowards how it’s done. We can call them the Starbucks Warhawks or something.
I will personally buy Krugnuts a rifle, ammo, and a plane ticket.
I’m waiting for mittens to resign and enlist along with all his sons.
And Meghan McCain can head over as well. And take Liz Cheney with her.
Oh god yes, please…
Free association is a Nazi dog whistle.
I just can’t even imagine going to a somber assed funeral and having a hairy assed monster in a dress officiating.
Yeah, in situations like that there needs to be a sense of decorum even if he trapped like Blaire White. They just want to kick over the sandcastle, every single time.
They will not even utter that phrase. It’s never about the individual’s negative right to turn away any customer he chooses; it is always and forever about my right as a homosexual to demand that a religious person bake me a penis-shaped, rainbow iced cake with “Happy Sodomitical Cohabiting, Steve and Larry.”
I’ve never understood people that pick a fight just because they can. I guess I just cemented my position as the dullest Glibertarian, ever…
But not the duelist
Not my design. Not my intention.
In high school, I used to buy a birthday card for my friend, but it was always for the wrong occasion. “Happy retirement” or “Our Sympathies in your Time of Loss.” I wish I had the option to get him a penis-shaped, rainbow iced cake with “Happy Sodomitical Cohabiting, Steve and Larry.”
I was born too soon 🙁
Tard Tuesday: Hopes and Dreams
Geeze. Are they trying to get me to register as a republican?
Look! That person has different thoughts and beliefs then mine! Get them!
Overheard at work over two years ago – “I can’t wait until he gets impeached so that Hillary gets to be President!”
I knew that was DU after about five words.
I don’t know who her teacher is but I bet that assignment got a gold star and she was smiling all through recess 😉
greed lies,sociopath and Narcissism
LOOK IN THE MIRROR, LIBTARD.
care about this country and the laws and human rights
Because the DU crowd cares about 1A, 2A (or any of the A’s), freedom of association, etc.
Why, Grandma: what big gas prices California has!
Wolf: The better to justify your Tesla, my dear!
Good luck charging your Tesla when PG&E turns off the lights.
Womp Womp.
[unzips]
I know the guy who was the Chairman when the fires happened. Worked directly with him for about eight years. He actually is an honest, very bright and decent guy.
The idea that PG&E does anything that the State of California doesn’t have almost complete and total control over is pretty ridiculous.
You get what you
payvote for, people. You get what youpayvote for.You get what
you votethe public employee unions pay for, people. You get whatyou votethe public employee unions pay for.Jeebus, the last thing I want from government is what I pay for. Don’t know who said it, but its true:
“Americans get a lot more government than they need, and a lot less than they pay for.”
Will Roger, maybe?
According to other reports, panic ensued at a screening of the film in Long Beach when a man entered the theaters and “surveyed” the crowd.
“Raise your hand if you think we have become a nation of pussies.”
✋?
No doubt about it. It’s scary to consider.
So someone was looking for a seat and they all freaked out?
Yep.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that during the presentation of the ‘Joker’ movie, a male adult subject walked to the front of the theatre while wearing a backpack,” Long Beach police spokesperson Arantxa Chavarria told the Post. “As the subject was surveying the crowd, the patrons were fearful he was in possession of a weapon and ran out of the theatre.”
“Run, hide, shit yer britches, die in a puddle”
So, I finished reading Snow Crash last night. Damn, that was a fun read. The ending though…ugh, it left me with a case of literary blue balls.
Stephenson runs into that quite a bit in his works.
This was the first book of his that I have read. I’ll give him another chance because it was such good fun until the very end.
This is the Stephenson cycle.
Christ, does he ever. Cryptonomicon is one of my favorite books ever and it ends like he just got bored with writing and was like, “And…everyone did stuff and left. The end!”
^^^ THIS! I went on a Stephenson bender for about a year and that guy does not do denouement or conclusion.
Same with Diamond Age. Still great fun.
I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that book because of the image of an army of 12 year old girls raised with proper moral doctrine and military doctrine. Now that scouting is open to girls, and based on my daughter’s personality, I have new #lifegoals
Endings are hard for some writers.
It’s not so difficult to
Do one for Afghanistan and Syria then, smarty.
Look a bit closer.
That’s half a sentence.
A sentence without an ending.
*monotone*That’s the joke*/monotone*
Has an ending but it’s missing a punchline. 😉 (good one)
Same here. I think The Diamond Age ended a bit better than Snow Crash or Cryptonomicon. The Baroque Cycle did end well – but he cheated, since he had already done Cryptonomicon…
So you are saying you weren’t happy about the ending and it left you frustrated then
Now try Bonfire of the Vanities.
I LOVED that book. Oooooh, 2 of my favorite authors being discussed in one thread!
So the NBA sides with commie China over an owner who merely expressed support for PRO-DEMOCRACY protestors who sing the American anthem and read the DofI.
The NBA is a despicable, insufferable league of asshole wokesters. Even Harden had to chime in – because that’s what ballers do – and go against his master who signs his checks instead of just staying out of it. These guys want all the respect in the world but give none of it back.
NBA (slave) owners are cucks to the employees who run the asylum. All we’re missing is the faux-intellectual Zen vapidity of of Popovich.
Basketball already was the worst, so why anyone watched the NBA is beyond me.
It’s the fastest growing league to boot.
It’s like the old joke about bands, “Big in Germany!”
I kind of liked some bands that were big in Germany, but not well known in the U.S. When they crossed over, they got too commercial for me. Whitesnake, for example.
Here he goes again on his own.
I really want to hear that woke @#$*bird’s take on this. C’mon “Pop” wow us with your wisdom.
Haven’t we been betraying the Kurds pretty much nonstop for decades?
This is no time to stop betraying the Kurds.
If we were going to help the Kurds establish a state, it would have happened immediately after invading Iraq. Since it didn’t, it should have been apparent to everyone involved that it was never going to happen.
Why yes, yes we have. Bush told them to fuck off. Obama told them to fuck off. The Hildebeast gave them the finger. But Orangemanbad.
If by betray you mean No-Fly Zone, and train and arm the Peshmerga and growl at Iraq to leave the Kurdish area alone for the last 20+ years…yeah, I guess so. Bush the Elder goaded them into rebellion and let them hang – we have been making up for it ever since. Shall we guard them forever? Maybe their drive for independence is in their own interest, and they can decide if open revolt, or subtle steps are needed.
Betraying the Kurds? No Whey!!!!
The 49ers look pretty goddam tough.
I turned it off in the fourth quarter. It was just brutal.
T shirt for you Jaws weirdos.
“The one thing that is terribly misunderstood, and often ignored, by the western press and those critical of China, is that 1.4 billion Chinese citizens stand united when it comes to the territorial integrity of China and the country’s sovereignty over her homeland. This issue is non-negotiable,” he added.
I don’t think 1.4 billion people have ever stood untied at the same time about anything in the entirety of world history, much less from a single nation. And yeah, I bet it’s non-negotiable for the leadership by reflex, non-negotiable to everyone else at the point of a gun.
What a bunch of insecure, thin-skinned pussies.
We know that they are United because the chicoms told us so.
Ughyers? Tibetans? Vietnamese? Never heard of these people.
I mean, the Chinese people I’ve met have been extremely patriotic in the sense that they’re proud of being Chinese and want their country to be considered a first-rate power in the world. Granted, one of them was from Taiwan, so they kind of meant different things.
Yeah, that 1.4 billion would be 1.7 billion if the government hadn’t murdered tens of millions of people and told people how many kids they could have for decades, you commie-apologist fuckface.
Fake progressive-wokesters have had an interesting week. First they pretend to care about the Kurds who they never gave a shit about before and now they side with Commie China.
Awesome. Scratch these people and find an unprincipled jack off who jacks off to authoritarianism.
Nonsense.
It is easy to get 1.4 billion to stand united for something. You just start shooting anyone who sits, and well if you aren’t cheering sufficiently then you may find you ability to get a job or a loan or get your kids into school significantly lessened.
1.4 billion Chinese citizens stand united when it comes to the territorial integrity of China and the country’s sovereignty over her homeland
If I was on Twitter, I would tweet at that guy this:
The empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide. Thus it has ever been.
I keep saying as long as Dave Roberts mismanages his pitchers, the Dodgers aren’t going anywhere. I understand that bull pen is useless but for the love of God…..what the heck was that puling Maeda who was smoking pitches? I woulda even left Hill sweat that inning out because the bull pen can’t be trusted. And using Pollock cold off the bench to face Scherzer who was commanding his pitches? A poor display right there from the skipper.
Another coach I think is past his Best Before date is Mike Babcock and his ‘200 foot’ game philosophy stuck in 2007. I’ll never forgive him and Hitchcock for treated Marty St. Louis like they did during the Team Canada selections in the Olympics. Them and their ‘systems’. They won gold but to me that was really classless.
According to other reports, panic ensued at a screening of the film in Long Beach when a man entered the theaters and “surveyed” the crowd.
The guy was just looking for an available seat. Now, he’s worse than Nathan Bedford Forrest.
I want to know who payed for this massive anti joker campaign?
The Studio that released it?
The US pulled back 50 to 100 “special operators” from Syria’s northern frontier, where they have served as a buffer preventing a long-planned assault by the Turkish military against Kurdish forces in Syria.
It would seem as though our presence there has been blown out of proportion making this withdrawal small potatoes. But warmongers in both parties are freaking out anyway.
“I have told Turkey that if they do anything outside of what we would think is humane… they could suffer the wrath of an extremely decimated economy,” he said.
Pull the troops out. Leave a carrier task force. Rain fire from the sky onto Turkish military installations if they try anything.
Much like the overreaction of the ChiComs to a basketball team owner tweet, the US military-industrial complex is overreacting to a relatively small adjustment in deployment in an effort to stave off further drawdowns overseas.
That and the principle. You can’t have the president questioning military.
$$$
Rain fire from the sky onto Turkish military installations if they try anything.
I mean, we’re technically allied with Turkey, so that’s out of the question. It’s the reason the US had that nominal force in the area, because Turkey can’t be seen attacking an ally, so the US was using its troops as basically a human shield.
I turned it off in the fourth quarter. It was just brutal.
I turned it off after the kick return where Beckham ran around like a headless chicken and then coughed up the ball.
It doesn’t help that it’s Seahawks, bye, and then Patriots for the next three weeks. I’m willing to blame a lot of it on the youth of the team (including Kitchens). I just want to see a winning season.
They should have kept Greg Williams as the HC.
I thought Williams earned the shot at head coach as well.
I just want to see a winning season.
You may want to follow another team.
I think everyone penciled them in as a playoff contender. I think they are still a year away. Although, they could still win the crappy AFC North.
I think two years for them to really gel together as a team. Assuming no big changes in coaching or players. I guessed them going 9-7 this year, and I think they can still get that. I think the game to watch for an idea of if they’ve got a solid chance or not is going to be the Patriots game after the bye. I don’t expect them to win, but I want them to at least look like a cohesive team with a game plan.
Joseph Tsai, owner of the Brooklyn Nets and co-founder of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA.N), said that the damage from Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s tweet in support of Hong Kong’s protesters “will take a long time to repair.”
Apparently China is a big market for the NBA, which I find surprising. Either way, I’d expect a self-respecting American enterprise to not kowtow to foreign totalitarians.
Two words: Fuck China. I mean, at what point do people finally decide to stand with principles over money?
Why would you bend for a regime that censors South Park FFS because the leader is thin-skinned asshole?
Fuck Tsai too.
Fuck ’em all to death.
Fuck ’em all to death.
Mr. Garrison agrees.
I wonder what his interest in Alibaba is at this point. If he’s still a large shareholder he probably doesn’t want to give the Chinese any reasons to go poking around in their books or, God forbid, start requiring that he hire a certain percentage of PLA to monitor the company, which is a thing the Chinese government does with a lot of large companies, especially if there’s a strategic interest.
If he has any sense, he took his money and ran. Alibaba is a financial disaster in the making. When you buy their stock, you’re buying interest in a Nassau based company that has little to nothing to do with the operational organization.
That’s his problem.
It’s the Bizarro world and the NBA ain’t your ally.
Was South Parks answer covered yet?

Awesome
Happy Birthday, Sloopy’s Mom. Hope you are well.
For any noobs here, she inadvertently and indirectly caused this site to come into existence. Thanks, ma’am.
I’ll pray to God to forgive her.
Seriously, worst “your mom” joke every Tonio.
Too local
Big props to Sloop and the other founders! This place is the bee’s knees!
It’s the SMITH’S PITH
STEVE SMITH PREFER NON-PITHED. THAT WAY SQUIRM MORE.
[golf clap] for leon
That response still pisses me off to this day.
Best regards and wishes, sloopy’s mom.
A Virginia college student told police she was “doing cocaine with the devil” when she flew into a psychotic rage and fatally knifed her best friend and roommate more than 30 times, a report said.
The story is a bit different when the devil goes down to Virginia as opposed to Georgia.
Well, he hasn’t gotten the golend fiddle back, so it’s a bit of a sore point.
*golden
wow, I mangled that one gud.
Now my name is Luisa Ines Tudela Harris Cutting, and it might be a sin, but I’m gonna read your bet, you’re gonna regret, cause I’m the best snorter there’s ever been.
I thought you were going with my name is Luisa Ines Tudela Harris Cutting, you stole my cocaine, prepare to die.
Dear Memphis-
This is who Isaac Hayes was.
To situate the album in the wake of King’s death is to hear its obsession with betrayal as not only personal but also social—as suggestive of the ways that black people have been consistently betrayed by the state and yet still rise, refuse, preen.
Sincerely,
The NewYorker
The shut-off could last “five days or longer,” according to the county’s office of emergency services.
What a shithole.
Rationing correlated to one’s Social Credit score coming soon.
No kidding between the homeless encampments, rat infestations leading to diseases, now power shut offs. That’s exactly it, a shithole.
They wanted it, they voted for it, now they have it.
Except a lot of the shut offs are in areas that didn’t vote for it.
Rays in 5!
I remember being a kid and having someone say “just walk it off” or “rub some dirt in it” when I got hurt. Those people are qualified to be doctors in Venezuela now. Way to go, socialism. Way to go. – this is only happening because the Great Leaders were a bunch of softies and let the kulaks live. If the rich would have been exterminated as they should have been, they would not have been able to sabotage the socialist project. But there is still time for a proper genocide. Maduro should unleash the full force of the death squads on the wreckers
Hi Pie! Windows random wallpaper just came up as a mountain meadow in the Carpathians in the Spring. Much beautiful.
Wait a minute. I find this offensive somehow. The Carpathians are in multiple countries. Which Carpathians huh?
“Siebenbürgen” part…
You should post that verbatim on different social media outlets and let us watch the meltdown.
What’s happened with all the protests and rioting in Venezuela? It has been quiet for months (at least as covered in U.S. media).
Utopia kicked in?
Utopia = Exhaustion
I would have thought you of all people would know that human gestation is only nine months long. If it took two years, it ain’t your kid.
Also, why do you have a pic of my SIL next to a fat Kathy Ireland?
Siding with the Chicoms against the Hong Kong protesters (and Taiwan too) is the ultimate punching down which I thought was a bad thing. They’re a monstrous government made up of kleptocrats (they harvest organs for Christ’s sake) who have a direct claim to the blood of tens of millions of their own citizens on their hands and anyone who stands up for them should be tarred, feathered, and horsewhipped out of town (metaphorically of course).
I for one will be boycotting ali baba… Then again I never use it and I do not think I purchase many chineese products.
I think I’ll start buying stuff there so I can stop.
Punching down seems to mean: attacking the state.
Happy birthday to Sloopy’s beloved mother. Sloopy, please give her a extra big hug and hearty thank you from me for being an awesome lady who did what was right at great personal cost and also raised a damn fine fellow.
and also raised a damn fine fellow.
Sloopy has a brother?
Whistleblower #3 comes forward with some frightening allegations.
I haven’t heard the devastating news from #2 yet. Was there any is it the same recycled bullshit?
Literally the same recycled bullshit.
A few days ago there was also some Romania scandal mentioned for Biden. I am sad that led nowhere. Was feeling on the map of things.
On NPR this morning, they framed the Trump-Ukraine call as a request for campaign assistance with no mention of Biden whatsoever.
It was an obvious editorial decision that had me yelling at the radio yet again.
We are just as corrupt as the damn Ukrainians goddamnit!
You need to be more brazen about it. You know, Chicago writ large.
So I can arrange for you to buy half of Cernavoda Nuclear Plant for a really good price. Email me.
See… that is MUCH better.
It’s like how I always get excited when Maryland’s in the news, even though it’s usually for something stupid. But not like meme-level stupid, like Florida or Ohio. Can’t even excel in that regard. The “M” stands for “mediocre”.
Over at the New York Times, we find this (which I have not yet read):
“The Rich Really Do Pay Lower Taxes Than You”
Just like Kindly Old Grandpa Buffett, whose secretary pays more than he does. Them rich bastards are bleeding the Treasury dry!
[insert Karl the waiter, from Casablanca]
“Honest? Honest as the day is long.”
Even if that were true, it doesn’t follow that they should pay more.
Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar writes in Jacobin on the exploitation of college athletes.
https://twitter.com/jacobinmag/status/1181517089548488704
It is worse than being in the South Sudan I assume, but will not give jacobin a click
He couldn’t even get a gig coaching in a league he played in for decades. I’m sure his knowledge of political systems is off the charts.
Jabbar was great but always a whinny bitch.
That’s a prerequisite for writing in the Jacobin.
And he didn’t work hard enough on defence. And lots of times, he didn’t even run down court. And he didn’t really try… except during the playoffs.
The Editor of Jacobin is a huge basketball fan. Further evidence that basketball is the worst.
Ecuador’s president, Lenín Moreno, has said he has moved his government from the capital in Quito to the coastal city of Guayaquil amid violent protests over the end of fuel subsidies.
Images from Quito showed protesters hurling petrol bombs and stones, ransacking and vandalising public buildings as well as clashing with the police in running battles late into the night.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/oct/08/ecuador-moves-government-out-of-capital-as-violent-protests-rage
Wait…. how come they can afford petrol bombs without subsidies? Sounds suspicious. I blame America.
They GET THINGS DONE. We (meaning the Democrats) should emulate them.
Thomas Friedman comes.
Yea, sure. Better to depose more governments and further destabilize the region. And while we are at it, let’s discard with the quaint notion of freedom of speech ‘n such.
Rice said, “It seems like six days a week I just put my head in my hands. This is batshit crazy.”
She continued, “These are the people who for the last four years have been fighting on our behalf, with our equipment to defeat ISIS, and they have done it with enormous efficacy, and they’ve sacrificed immensely, and we basically just said to them, ‘See ya. And let the Turks, who are like the hungry wolf trying to kill the lamb, go for it.”
She added, “It’s just appalling because we promised the Kurds our partnership, and we promised them that if they worked with us to defeat our common enemy, then we would stand with them. And Trump woke up on the wrong side of the bed it appears and decided never mind, which is why suddenly Republicans in Congress have gotten a pulse today.”
While we were simultaneously arming ISIS to defeat Assad.
Rice is a professional liar.
The Syrian Kurds happened to have a common enemy which was ISIS and were nominal allies at best. Fighting on our behalf my ass.
Some years back we were at a dinner party and the TV was on. A news report on ISIS started playing and there was footage of ISIS fighters. One of the other guests started on about how Obama was going to clean that mess up blah blah blah and I said….”Are you nuts? All of their equipment is American. Where do you think they got all of those Hummers and M-16s? ”
She told me I was nuts. That’s right, there it is, right in front of your nose in broad daylight and you can’t see it.
It was amazing how after the Republican congress balked at intervening in the Syrian civil war, ISIS suddenly coalesced with great equipment, an efficient table of organization and swept everyone before them.
It’s almost as if the Saudis and Qataris had a plan B.
It is outrageous to me that all these kids sign up to serve and protect their homeland, and instead are sent to fight, be wounded or killed on behalf of a king who still executes people for blasphemy, homosexuality and witchcraft.
The apparatchiks who infest the U.S. government do not deserve our loyalty…. they treat it like crap. I know the inevitable collapse of the U.S. government in the coming decades is going to be awful and be accompanied with social upheaval and violence and nothing to cheer. But when I contemplate the depravity and hubris of the nomenklatura, and the suffering they will endure, I find myself feeling quite sanguine. 😈
Tucker has fun calling out the neo-cons for their hypocrisy.
https://dailycaller.com/2019/10/07/tucker-syria-trump-withdraw-graham/
Everytime I start disliking Tucker, he goes up against all the people I hate. He’s been really good on this whole issue IMO.
His economics suck but he’s correct on most other things.
really? which things?
Leftist culture and foreign policy are the big issues.
And bowties… well at least he used to be right on that.
He’s at least asking the right questions. He’s also owned up to his mistake on Iraq 1 which is much more than the other opinion shows on Fox have done.
Artificial womb: Dutch researchers given €2.9m to develop prototype
Model from Eindhoven University will surround baby with fluid and deliver oxygen and nutrients via umbilical cord

Planned Parenthood has a sad.
Abortion is about to become a thermonuclear shitstorm.
Dude: I don’t want to be a father– too bad, pay up for the next 18 years.
Chick: I don’t want to be a mother– too bad, pay for the next eight months of artificial wombing… and the next 18 years.
You’ve stolen a base in terms of viably transplanting the fetus from a human to an artificial womb.
You can start an IVF in there, but I’m not sure how well you can move an already growing baby.
All engineering problems can be solved.
Eventually, yes, this procedure will be viable.
Right now it looks like it’ll be performed in a hospital running on fusion power.
Unfortunately the same is not true of medical problems.
That’s freaking awesome. I wonder how PP will respond.
“Republicans BAD! Gibbs us moneyz!”
I think I’ll start buying stuff there so I can stop.
If you’re going to buy from alibaba, you had better have a big garage. “I don’t want 500, I just need one.”
La Abuela is disappointed.
Hillary Clinton✔
@HillaryClinton
Let us be clear: The president has sided with authoritarian leaders of Turkey and Russia over our loyal allies and America’s own interests. His decision is a sickening betrayal both of the Kurds and his oath of office.
I didn’t realize his oath of office involved perpetual involvement in unconstitutionally waged wars.
I would like to Congratulate the Kurds on their new position as the one true constituency of the United States.
You mean the (shouldn’t be but is) same Turkey that’s a NATO ally? I feel bad for the Kurds but how is supporting a relatively weak largely communist militia in our interests?
Maoist, in some regards.
Interesting how that implies some betrayals aren’t sickening to Hillary.
The ones she commits.
Well God knows Hillary doesn’t mind sending Americans to their deaths in support of a foreign power.
You mean our NATO ally Turkey?
Ok, it makes my stomach roil to be even tangentially on the same side as Hillary, but FUCK Turkey. The Kurds have been much better allies than the Turks. The cold war ended almost 30 years ago, it is long past time for NATO to go away.
No doubt, Turkey sucks. But it is rich to suggest we hold some unwritten obligation to the Kurds that outweighs the actual long-term treaty obligation to the Turks. The same people would be telling us that Trump is destroying all semblance foreign policy order by ignoring/trashing the Iran nuclear treaty.
Can we take a moment to talk about optimizing and gender?

the wymminz is to short for the space station it seems
Oh FFS
Well, first it was a little while ago that they were complaining that the spacesuits made their butts look too big and now they want to leave cupboard doors open above the counter. Chicks in Spaaaaace!
What does race have to do with this particular grievance?
Wait… Russians are white now?
/I keed i keed.
Well they stopped being Red sometime between 1989 and 1991.
The mask slipped for a minute.
Men should always be uncomfortable to remind themselves how horrible they are.
Ask Jimmy the Greek.
So, let me just say, as a developer, the following signals to me that person A has absolutely no idea what the fuck they’re talking about:
A: “Hey, let’s make a website that uses JavaScript to defragment the user’s hard drive automatically without bothering them with a pop-up or anything!”
B: “That’s not possible using JavaScript, and even if it were–”
A: “Yeah, but that’s just a coding problem!”
When you talk about something as if it’s magic, don’t complain when the magicians treat you like an idiot.
Had that happen the other day. I coded up a report for some people, and they said “I’d rather have it include this other piece of information. That’ll take a couple hours, right?”
No, it’ll take about 3 months because I’ll have to create an entirely separate database, request the data from our provider since they don’t automatically provide it in any report I can run, and hack something together because HR doesn’t consistently provide the employee data you want.
“Oh, well last time it took you an hour to add a new column to the report and populate it.”
Yeah, last time I had all the data to calculate the new field.
I have had jobs like that. I had a boss who thought bootstrap could just fix anything. “It’s super easy. we’ll just throw bootstrap on it.”
When all you have is a Tesla, all your problems look like Romanian hamsters
Had a boss who would walk around the building repeating the latest business jargon catch-phrases he read off the page cover of a business book. He used to talk a lot about “re-engineering” things without any idea what that meant.
Custom reporting… *shudder*
It’s hell even with a fairly well documented database.
My wife was talking about how she has this CS PhD candidate who comes by to talk to one of her classes from time to time (a master’s-level ed class dealing with STEM) and talks about how people might incorporate programming into classrooms based on his research in machine learning, and why it’s useful for people who will never program a damn thing to nevertheless learn at least some basic principles about how machines approach problem-solving. I damn near shouted, “YES!!! FOR GOD’S SAKE, YES!!!” Like a lot of people who don’t understand how machines work, she never really considered that you have to think in terms of patterns, systems, and repeatable processes rather than individual instances, so you get really good at seeing those things in other contexts. On the other hand, it’s also why templating is a thing and why exceptional, one-off cases make developers angry. It’s like,
“Can’t you just make the machine make one gear smaller?”
“Sure, if I take it apart and rebuild it to make smaller gears. If you’d mentioned this when I was building the machine, I could’ve made it do both. Now it would be easier to just make another, different machine.”
“But I just need one smaller gear.”
“Or maybe you need to change your design to use the gears you asked me to make in the first place.”
Along those lines, I always fought with design engineers who would not use common parts and manufacturing processes when it was possible.
“Yes, of course, we should definitely invest in more inventory and new capital equipment to build this item when we could build it with what we already have. Makes perfect sense to me.”
Also can we optimize the army for gender please, while we are at it ?
Leaked slides reveal the catastrophic failure of the Army Combat Fitness Test. If 84% of women are failing your physical fitness test (72% in a single, preposterous event!), you’re not trying to make a stronger Army; you’re trying to force women out.
https://twitter.com/dwbwriter/status/1180976708717092864
Or…you know…
The test failed, not the women… the PLA must be terrified.
The new fitness test is no longer graded by Age or Gender. Rather it is graded by what your duty position is (light, medium, heavy). That means you are required to meet the fitness standard for your job. There are plenty of things wrong with the new ACFT implementation, but the grading standard is not one of them.
I’m not sure I agree. I find the notion of soldiers that can’t meet basic physical standards problematic at best. Sure the supply clerk doesn’t need the same physical abilities the light infantryman needs for her day to day tasks, but you can find hundreds of cases where something went wrong (the other side gets a say in what happens on the battlefield too) and supply clerks had to pick up a rifle and fight. There need to be basic standards, and they need to be based on what it takes to do the basic job of an army, not just the specific tasks in one role. I’m fat and fifty and even though there are dozens of jobs in the military I could probably do, we are better off with people who can also keep their fellow soldiers alive if things go sideways.
That’s a valid point. My point is that the fact that the standards are the same across the board regardless of sex or age is a good thing. The current APFT grades females extremely well compared to males. For example a 19 year old man has to do 42 pushups minimum. That is the maximum for females. So maybe there should be one standard across the Army, but I see this as an improvement.
Secondary MOS of all soldiers is to “fight like an infantryman”. Even as a REMF we were expected to pass the same combat proficiency test. Old school, 40 years ago…
My point is that the new test is graded much closer to that standard than the old pt test. Especially as the combat arms branches were opened to females, you would have women in the Artillery who would struggle to pick up the 100lb rounds. Now at least the standards are the same across the board within the Job categories.
Yes every soldier should be able to shoot a rifle, and run at em.
It’s just one more instance where feminists are admitting right up front that women are less effective at something by the simple facts of biology but still clinging to this idea that there must not be any gender disparity in anything whatsoever (unless it’s favorable to women). Then they insist that the job has to change in order to make things “equal”. If you have to significantly alter the job and/or equipment to close a gender gap, maybe your idea of equality is kind of an absurd fantasy.
It’s kind of like saying that the NBA is unfairly discriminating against short people (even though they actually are less effective at playing the sport) and insisting that the entire game be redesigned to accommodate them.
There may be one somewhere, but I’ve yet to witness a 7′ tall pro golfer.
Some people actually make some interesting usability points. Someone said something along the lines that it’s not an optimization issue, it’s an adjustability issue. Reminds me of a cartoon that illustrates the difference between accessibility and usability: two kids watching a baseball game from the stands and one can’t see over a safety wall; accessibility is putting a step in front of the wall for the short kid to stand on, usability is replacing the wall with Plexiglas.
The most important point of all was made by the guy who basically said that if you know the context, what you’re talking about, and have watched actual footage, the bar isn’t on the floor to hook your feet in, the guy just uses it that way, and the woman is shown clearly finding her own effective accommodations in order to do what she needs to do. Just like everyone else.
Are you sure that is not yhe cartoon about equality and equity
No, and now that you mention it that’s the one. And I’m a little surprised that there’s someone else who has seen it.
Are those rotters still trying to freeload and watch the game without buying a ticket?
“Let me illustrate this with puppetry.”
Dammit. Coffee in the nose at 9am?
*goes to kitchen for paper towels*
Puppetry is to self-sufficient orbital space stations as ___________________ is to _______________________.
I eagerly await that SAT question.
OK, let’s. Men are on average stronger than women even when normalized for size. Men are more likely to choose the professions that feed into the space program. Men are more likely to successfully complete training for the space program. If we decide to optimize the space program based on sex, it won’t be a matter of making things more suited for women….

So now the Democrats and neocons have decided we should just ignore our NATO allies?
If Trump can fenangle this into a conversation that leads to us dismantling NATO… he’d be the greatest ever.
Sounds like the time to ask if we can dissolve NATO and see what they say.
So I occasionally run into e-girl (is e-thot hate speech yet?) twitter and am always surprised how so many of these girls do this for a living. Why do dudes pay them?

It’s just desperate guys who think they have some kind of special bond with the recipient of their patronage and maybe, just maybe, the one thing that will never happen will happen.
Bear Update! Wifey put the seed and nuts for the birds into a forty gallon bin, tied bungee straps around it and forgot to anchor it. First snow tonight, so bear grabs the bin and just fucks off with it… I come home from work and read the tracks CSI-like. Get in the house and there’s a note on the counter in jagged script – “Fucking bear stole the bird-seed! Bin and all!” I dare not laugh.
In any civilized country, you’d be able to follow the tracks, shoot the bear, and reclaim the shredded remnants of your bin.
I don’t wish him any ill but he’s not my pal. I wouldn’t give a wink if one of the red-necks around here takes him out. He’s a big fucker, so far as black bears go. why would anyone hold Tesla?
In an interview with CNBC, Tepper cited low margins, the expiration of a federal tax credit for Tesla’s US customers, and increasing competition from the likes of Volkswagen and Porsche as reasons to be wary of Tesla stock. The electric-car company’s share price has slid over 15% during the past 12 months and over 25% since the beginning of 2019 as the company has failed to build on the profits it earned during the second half of 2018 and by posting losses during the first half of this year.
Tesla in Romanian is a name used for a type of hammer that also has some way to take out nails. Either two metal prongs or a wide part with a whole in it. The wide part can also be used to dig or shape wood.
There is a Romanian saying about something you don’t want to do “mai bine imi dau cu tesla in coaie” Which means I rather hit my balls with a well tesla.
https://images.okr.ro/serve/auctions.v7/2018/may/27/9619fd6bf3fddbe6ba0cadbb0263e361-5562113-1000_1000_11.jpg
Make of this information what you will.
In English (at least in God’s America) that’s a claw hammer. Generally. There are hammers that aren’t claw hammers that still have some mechanism by which you can lever out a nail, such as a tack hammer. A roofing hammer or shingle hammer has the wide part with the hole. It’s basically a small hatchet with a hammer head on the other end.
The illustration he gives is what we call an adze, a tool mainly used to hew beams.
Never encountered one in the wild, but as a kid I used to watch “The Woodwright’s Shop” religiously and I recall him using those.
Funny Woodwright moment. He asks his guest, “This one goes to 11?”.
The Woodwright watches Spinal Tap!
My wife an I have an ongoing joke about his phrase ‘rub the bevel’.
Has sandpaper not reached your country?
Well sandpapering your balls does not have the same effect as hitting them with a hammer
That’s a series of comparisons I don’t really want to consider. I think we can safely say either thing would be bad and leave it at that.
The picture Pie, the picture. That handle gave me splinters just looking at it.
that is probably a cheap Bulgarian one it was the first pic on google image search
I swear that I misread that as a “type of hamster,” and was admiring the ingenuity of the little rodent to dig out nails.
It used to, but with the fall of the iron curtain, those hardworking rodents were put out of business by technology.
cult like following of Musk?
I used to follow Tesla on Seeking Alpha, not because I was investing in either direction, but because the fights between the fanboys and the shorts were hilarious. No one investing in Tesla, in either direction, is making economic decisions, it is all religious, and by religious I mean Crusades or 30 years war, not Council of Nicea.

Nothing says right wing to me like socialism and satanism. Definitely conservatives.
Founded in 2016 by Brandon Russell, a young member of the Florida National Guard, Atomwaffen Division is a secretive, nihilistic guerrilla organization that seeks the violent overthrow of the United States government and venerates terrorists such as Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. It follows the writings of National Socialist Liberation Front veteran James Mason and also incorporates Satanism and the occult in its internal ideology.
Uh huh…big-government collectivism is patently left-wing.
Wait. How is Trump allowing this to happen?
When you talk about something as if it’s magic, don’t complain when the magicians treat you like an idiot.
If you’re a magician, make them disappear.
Turned another page in he logbook, here’s where the pistols stand in case you wanted some reliability data:
Sig P365 – 1150 rounds (1 failure to extract)
CZ Shadow 2 – 6945 rounds (2 failures to extract)
Beretta M9 – 629 rounds (1 failure to feed)
Ruger Mark IV Hunter – 822 rounds (no malfunctions)
The Sig gets fed only brass-cased ammo, the CZ and the Beretta gets whatever’s cheapest (used to be aluminum, has been steel for the past few months). The CZ hasn’t seen a brass casing since April. None of the guns have been cleaned since August. The Mark IV probably needs one — I took it apart since the pivot was backing itself out and there was enough fouling to make me cringe.
Two failures with garbage ammo in that many rounds is a pretty good record looking at that CZ.
The Czechs punch well above their weight in guns, beer, and porn.
Dude, true on all counts. Lord have mercy.
There is a reason Bohemian means wild and hedonist.
I don’t think I’ve had any malfunctions with my CZ P07 even though I’ve used cheap ammo. It even seems to like the cheap Russian steel cased crap which gives me my best groups.
Glock 30 – no failures whatsoever after about 2,000 rounds of everything from cheap crap to defense rounds to +P
I’m far from a Glockboi, but it goes
I’m not a Glock fan, but I will always have a soft spot for Glock because of this.

Ellen Staunchly Defends Her Nauseating Friendship With George W. Bush
“Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush,” DeGeneres said. “In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different.”
She continued, setting up an impossible scenario: “When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn’t matter.”
Bush, unfortunately, has not followed the rule of being kind to everyone. In fact, he made an endless war. He has an enormous body count.
So it turns out that being nice to Bush means in turn disrespecting those whose lives were destroyed by his disastrous administration. You literally cannot be kind to everyone. You have to choose a side! Ellen certainly has.
Imagine being at a Splinter happy hour.
“Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush,” DeGeneres said. “In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different.”
Ellen has blasphemed against Prog orthodoxy and now must repent and atone.
I don’t know the lady personally, but from every interview I’ve seen and everything I’ve read about her…you’ve got to be one bitter, horrible person to hate Ellen DeGeneres.
I actually watched about ten minutes of her show once and yeah, that is the impression I got. She is impossible to dislike.
I just wish she was more honest about Obama and how he ‘evolved’ on gay marriage.
She’s funny too. A great comedian.
Right? She’s not my particular cup of tea when it comes to stand-up but she puts on a great show and I doubt many walk away feeling like they didn’t get their money’s worth.
It’s even worse than they admit because by “kind”, they mean “civil” and “non-violent”.
Her explanation speech was very sane and well done.
Yes, that is exactly what it means.
I’m an Ellen fan. She’s such a likable person.
There are many reasons to dislike Bush, but I don’t understand the columnist logic. Didn’t Obama double U.S. troop commitments in that perpetual unwinnable war?
It isn’t “logic” – it’s “hate”.
I’m gonna go against the crowd and say that I’m not the biggest fan of Ellen. I don’t hate her or anything, but I find her to be one of the postergirls for the kind that approaches everything in life from a position of vapid emotionality. She may be nice and likeable personally, but everybody I’ve met that is a big fan of hers has been an airhead.
this!
she brings nothing to the table for any thinking person: no news, no principle, no insight, no humor
There’s nothing wrong with her whatsoever; there’s just nothing right with her.
I think she’s actually clever, but understands that her political insight is not the point of her show. I wish more felt that way.
Eh, her show was (is?) light entertainment. Nothing wrong with that. I saw a little bit of it years ago. I thought she did an excellent job of delivering what she needed to deliver.
I’ll agree with you and Don that there’s nothing wrong with her, but I just don’t understand the fangirls.
I watched Ellen’s recent comedy special and found it somewhat amusing, but not funny or entertaining in the slightest. The biggest turnoff was when it turned into a festival of fawning adoration and recounting of how hard it was to come out. It’s a comedy special, not a biopic.
She seems like a very nice person.
She does not seem like she has the potentional to be a person you could pull an all-nighter discussing deep philosophical things.
That’s what I look for in people to pay attention to.
Ooo. Now do Obama’s body count and endless wars!
Leftist media didn’t report on that so it didn’t happen.

Sex predator
An assistant principal at a North Carolina high school had sex with a student six times over a four-month span, police said.
Lisa Rothwell, a 34-year-old educator at Stuart Cramer High School in Belmont, was arrested Friday for having sex and oral sex with a student between April 1 and July 31, the Gaston Gazette reported, citing arrest warrants.
Six times in four months? That should be six times in an afternoon.
Get on it, people. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I went to school in the wrong decades. Jeebus.
Apparently she “taught gifted children.”
I wonder if this is getting more common, or it just gets reported more. If the former, it seems to reveal some kind of female sexual entitlement/privilege. Probably no way to know.
Perhaps boys, in the olden days, knew how to keep their traps shut on such things?
Not a personal view, if I was a young lad who didn’t hold to the tenets of typical Christian teachings, I wouldn’t tell a soul about such activities.
I bet it’s just getting reported more.
One time I was curious if Catholic priests really were such hornballs, and my research revealed that schoolteachers pretty much do the same thing as a matter of a course. The ordinary incidents just don’t stir up much news.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez✔
@AOC
Mass incarceration is our American reality. It is a system whose logic evolved from the same lineage as Jim Crow, American apartheid, & slavery.
To end it, we have to change.
That means we need to have a real conversation about decarceration & prison abolition in this country.
While I agree there is a mass-incarceration issue the rest of this is bs. End the drug war and stop imprisoning people for victim-less crimes and the problem goes away. But that doesn’t mean you don’t continue to imprison actual criminals.
And you lost me.
Ok, but that’s not what you said.
“Breaking some people’s brains.”
No, you C-student, yearbook club, wanna-be mean girl dipshit, nobody’s brains are breaking. Is this bitch 14? Does she honestly think nobody else has ever had an original thought? Listen, Sandy, it’s not that people’s minds are blown by your revolutionary new idea, it’s that it’s an old, obvious idea that nobody serious ever suggests because anyone who can chain two thoughts together already knows it’s a terrible fucking idea.
We could billet them in peoples homes to help with the housework. Or house them in separate quarters on farms where they could pitch in with the farm work. Farmers can bid on them at auction, ensuring they get the ones best suited for labor while simultaneously raising state revenue. They are being rehabilitated and gaining useful job skills! Why has nobody thought of this?!
How about we abolish prison and let them all stay in supervised release roaming the capitol building. Oh, and take away the armed security because we wouldn’t want it to feel too much like prison.
Richard Prior has a rebuttal.
Was that his Pryor spelling?
The puns here are Richard than ever
You guys are on fire!
Yeah, she’s still managing to be wrong about everything even when she stumbles past something that’s true. Our philosophy of incarceration is confused–we’re not sure if we’re putting people in prison to punish them, to keep people safe from them, or to rehabilitate them, or if it’s a combination. So we give people longer sentences for smoking weed than for beating their wives. And because every now and again someone wants to be “tough on crime” we get three-strike laws that put nonviolent offenders in prison for life for drug addiction or for slingin’ nickle bags of weed. I’m not advocating that we adopt the Swedish prison system here, because it’s a completely different situation, but there’s something to be said for the fact that they picked “rehabilitation” as the goal and have devoted all of their resources towards making that work.
Agreed.
Punishment. Rehabilitation is between the criminal and their God. Ideally punishment should be proportional to the offense, and limited to cases of direct harm to another (or attempted direct harm, with attempted defined as actual attempts that failed such as a missed shot, a stab that is blocked, not mere words), but rehabilitation is either unachievable, or evil depending on whether you mean the idiocy we do now or actual reeducation.
^^
The state does a good job with education the first time around. Re-education should be a breeze.
She doesn’t give a shit about victimless crimes.
Just so happens they’ll be a lot more sweet votes coming out of the prisons.
Tell us, Ocasio-Cortez, which party was it that defended slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow laws.
THEY SWITCHED SIDES!!!!!111!!1!!1
Well, they turned their collectivist identity politics guns on a different target, anyway.
This. If you got the nonviolent drug offenders out of there, there would be enough resources to actually maintain order. Frankly, in a zero-freedom environment like prison, the number of rapes and murders should be practically nil. There’s just no excuse for it. The way it is now, you have to be an aggressive psychopath just to survive, and I don’t think that mindset goes away when you get released to the community. I’d imagine that this is a great contributor to the recidivism rate.
People who think you can just do away with all prisons forever should go visit the segregation/disciplinary unit of a prison and see the kinds of people they have in there. I know the “tough on crime” mentality has caused a lot of serious injustices in this country, but sometimes the answer really is “lock them up and throw away the key”.
Hobgoblin sighting
The genre of deepfakes as we know them first grew out of a Reddit forum for photoshopping the heads of female celebrities onto the bodies of porn stars, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that satisfying sexually driven fantasies has remained the deepfake’s primary purpose. Deeptrace Labs’ findings support what we know of deepfakes in action so far, which is that they are rarely used to help usher in a dystopian political nightmare where fact and fiction are interchangeable: They exist to degrade women.
But there certainly are deepfake vides that do blur the lines of reality. While 96 percent of all deepfake content online is porn about women, on YouTube the gender of the targets is actually 61 percent male — and the content isn’t pornographic, but rather commentary-based.
“Subjects featuring in YouTube deepfake videos,” the study notes, “came from a more diverse range of professions, notably including politicians and corporate figures.” That suggests that the videos might also be used to play a role in YouTube’s ever-more reactionary political environment — though thankfully not at a chaos-inducing rate. Yet.
——-
The new report acknowledges that we’re increasingly living in an age when deepfakes can seriously disrupt the political landscape. In addition to the deepfake, the report notes the rise of what it calls the “shallowfake”: strategically edited and altered videos such as a fake video of Nancy Pelosi that went viral earlier this year. Efforts to remove these and other deepfakes from the internet have been lackluster at best; in fact, the typical response has been to use deepfake technology to warn against deepfake technology.
The rise of this dangerously deceptive genre of technology, the report concludes, should necessitate strategic and immediate action, though it stops short of recommending what that action should be. Instead, it emphasizes that many of the threats deepfakes pose to public and private security “are no longer theoretical.”
“Youtube’s politically reactionary environment”? I stubbed my toe, hard, on that one.
So let me get this straight. 99% of deepfake video is celebrity porn fantasy, but we need to clamp down because somebody made Nancy Pelosi look bad, that one time?
Was the Pelosi thing even a deep fake? It was just edited in much the same way the MSM edits things all the time.
NBA: We will speak out against the fascistic Donald Trump and all his evils, even if he imprisons us or sends his death squads after us. We are principled and will never be dissuaded.
Also NBA: Please Mr. China, please don’t hurt us. We’ll do anything.
Why, it’s almost like one is an actual authoritarian regime and the other is only authoritarian in the left’s demented head.
One more business I wasn’t patronizing any ways. I never get to boycott anything. Harrumph.
I know. I’m in the same boat. Disappointing.
Other than Walmart, but I only went there a couple times a year, so no real sacrifice. I just hope amazon never pisses me off or I’m down to buying everything from Publix.
well they sort of tried to say they are not throwing Morey under the bus
Just a lot of pointing out that free speech has consequences and a lot of *wink wink nudge nudge* keep your mouth shut everyone. Was there any of that when say Pop was making his overt political comments? Or when they moved the All Star game over bathroom laws?
Anyways, my main take away from all of this is that if Trump were actually half of what the left says he is, then everyone would be terrified of actually “taking a stand” against him. The nice thing about virtue signalling is that you don’t have to actually put any skin in the game, just say the right things. The moment they might actually have to deal with any real backlash, they become massive hypocrites. 0 Principles.
They are scared of China and not scared of Trump. Rightfully so.
What makes me mad is this is the league that tried to make the woke statement on transgender bathrooms and made sure NBA owners don’t actually refer to themselves as owners. What a bunch of fucking hypocrites.
For some reason the salad I ate for lunch made me feel very full. I did incorrectly estimate the amount of salmon I added and overdid it but still… 200 grams grilled salmon and 200 g assorted raw vegetables and lettuce with some mushrooms and little lemon and olive oil should not have made me feel stuffed…
Since you’re using grams, I’m assuming there’s some cocaine on your salad. I know of no other reason to use grams when speaking of consumables.
I see nothing about cheese. You’re doing it wrong.
Does dairy really work with fish?
I don’t know, as I don’t eat fish.
*shrug*
The answer is “no”.
No schmear with your nice hunk of sable?
I’ve heard you should pair things by where they grow. I don’t know how you square that with fish & chips.
Both come from under the surface?
Clever
Surf & turf haz a sad
Yes. Cream cheese and lox.
damn. Now I want smoked salmon
Government problem solvers
With the costs of building housing on the rise, Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin is recommending that some projects be reevaluated to see if their budgets can be cut to use less of the city’s $1.2-billion homeless housing bond.
In an audit that will be released Tuesday, Galperin found that more than 1,000 units of housing approved for funding through Proposition HHH could top $600,000 apiece.
“The median cost of building many of these units approaches — and in many cases, exceeds — the median sale price of a condominium in the City of Los Angeles and of a single-family home in Los Angeles County,” according to the audit, an early copy of which was obtained by The Times.
The audit said the city should evaluate whether it can revise homeless housing projects that have such “outlier” costs and instead use innovations such as shared housing, modular construction and simplified financing. Any savings should then be shifted to fund shelters, bridge housing, hygiene centers and other service facilities to address more immediate needs of the city’s homeless population, he said.
“That Trump guy sure is stupid. He has no idea how hard we work. He just needs to send us more money.”
Wait, 1,000 units would cost $600,000 a piece, so total we are talking 600,000,000 ? That is some serious government grift going on there. $600,000 in my locale and I would have one of the nicest houses in the county.
Yeah but would that house come with an army of social workers following you around?
If you simply must, use shipping containers. You can get small ones for less than $50K, fully kitted out. Having homeless people share a home is probably not a great idea, so small should be fine. B\onus: you could probably wrap up the whole project in less than a year.
But its almost like this is about something other than getting homeless people housed.
My mother was a social worker when I was growing up, and before the year our city got the Republican National Convention they decided to build houses for all the homeless. The project finished, and they all had houses.
Within 6 months all of them were back on the street. Houses abandoned. Most perpetually homeless people, you see, have issues. They are addicted to drugs or — very likely — have huge psychological problems.
Occasionally someone will be down on their luck and you legitimately help them get back on their feet. These are the feelgood moments and you’ll never see them again. But they aren’t common.
Those are neat.
Kansas City homeless vet village of tiny houses.
My brother had an Air BnB, which was a half a shipping container in someone’s back yard. It was decked out and so pretty and awesome. It WAS tiny. Forced minimalism, but that’s not a bad thing. If it were more easily transportable, say, on a trailer chassis, it’d be perfect for one person.
However, as a work-at-home person, it would not do well. I’d end up at the library working all the time.
I know, let’s just put them in tents, right out on the sidewalk!
Proposition HHH. Sounds like a real pain in the ass.
“Meanwhile, the Yankees swept their way into the ALCS”
To be fair, the Twins worked their asses off to once again earn the opportunity to suck in the post-season.
The Twins are the Republicans of MLB
Ouch. At least they gave us a couple championships unlike the damn Vikings.
The audit also highlighted the slow progress of the program, which has yet to produce a new unit of homeless housing three years after voters approved the bond in November 2016. The first two projects are scheduled to be completed later this year.
But criticism for the delays and escalating costs was muted, with the audit blaming regulatory barriers, a limited pool of developers, cumbersome permitting processes, labor costs and litigation that find a wat tohas blocked a city ordinance intended to streamline homeless housing projects.
We should be more like them Chinamen. They’d find a way to make the homeless problem disappear.
Ok, now they’re just making shit up.
“Cutting had been bingeing on a cocktail of drugs — including cocaine, mushrooms, Adderall, Xanax and marijuana, according to the report.”
This is why no one should have disposable income.
Nobody really needs more than one or two choices of narcotics.
Hmmm…the coke and the Adderall would really get you pumping and the mushrooms can get you amped depending on your mental state going in but the Xanax and marijuana oughtta level you out. She shoulda been fine.
I’d say I don’t get creeped TFO that easily. In an interview, Joaquin Phoenix explains how the director showed him videos of people suffering from PBA in order to help him with the Joker’s laugh. So I check out what that disorder is and came across this PSA. It goes from typical to very disturbing. And no, I’m not laughing at him.

Ok, now they’re just making shit up.
I *may have* fatfingered that in there without realizing it.
Delicious.
She’s been telling this fable for years. Unfortunately, she used to tell a different story. Video is forever, Liz.
On Saturday, a video that had been posted to YouTube in 2008 was unearthed that showed Warren, in her own words, explaining her decision to leave teaching on her own. When asked about this discrepancy, Warren explained, “After becoming a public figure I opened up more about different pieces in my life and this was one of them.”
Weak. And, even more unfortunately, somebody actually dug up the fact that she quit.
In other words, she’s been a fraudulent grifter from the beginning.
The idea that anyone at all believes Harvard Law hired her based on anything other than ticking the affirmative action box for “Native American” is ludicrous. She was a mediocrity when they hired her; I’m sure a review of the other applications for the job would turn up dozens more qualified.
The funny thing is, Harvard Law wasn’t defrauded by her lies about her ancestry. They aren’t stupid; they knew she was lying, and didn’t care, as shown by their complete apathy when she immediately quit the Native American group that she had joined.
Affirmative action kept me from getting into legal academia. At one time, it kind of pissed me off, but now that academia has descended into madness, I’m glad.
Serial Liar runs for president? You don’t say.
The difference between Warren and Biden is that Warren lies for personal gain.
Is this an actual paid position in schools?
Absolutely. I had one in elementary school. Got rid of my lisp.
i can’t wait for the Dems to parade out a woman who was fired *by Trump* for being pregnant *by Trump*.
It’s funny how these mealy-mouthed excuses are accepted, but every time Trump opens his mouth the media starts flailing their arms, screaming “FACT CHECK!!!” and coming up with the most tortuous logic to claim that it was a big fat lie.
Dave Smith had a recent episode called “A Gaffe or a Lie” or something, where he showed a clip from CNN where a commentator was insisting that Biden’s fabricated story about the veteran declining a medal was “not a lie, just a gaffe”.
Once again, fuck them for making me defend Donald Trump. But I can’t stand people whining about every lie he tells while writing off every single Leftist lie as a mere “gaffe” or “opening up about different places in my life”.
Eat the rich
The steps of the income ladder are too far apart for kids to climb them, in other words. Safe neighborhoods, quality education, and security at home are out of reach for too many children. Inequality is now driving a longevity gap, an educational-attainment gap, and a health gap. It lurks behind the country’s falling entrepreneurship rate, too. The country will not prosper through growth alone, but only through sharing its prosperity more widely.
Inequality, finally, is likely affecting growth—in no small part because it is affecting the country’s human capital, making it hard for would-be entrepreneurs and scientific geniuses and business leaders who happen to be born toward the bottom of the income scale to fulfill their potential. If the rich have all the money, there is less spending throughout the whole of the economy and fewer opportunities for businesses to pursue. One study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that rising inequality slashed five percentage points from the United States’ GDP per capita from 1990 to 2010.
Given all this evidence, wealth taxes are not simply a way to pay for programs for the poor. They are a way of reducing the incentive for the rich to soak up all that money in the first place. They are a way of pushing the steps of the income ladder closer together to make them easier to climb. They are a way of ending what two leading economists on inequality, Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman, call “oligarchic drift,” and its attending political risks. They are a way of building a healthier economic future for everyone—including those 400 families up at the tippy top.
More nonsensical goalpost shifting. If you’re not a billionaire, “safe neighborhoods, quality education, and security at home are out of reach”.
Look at all the money we throw at these things, and what results do we get? We had better throw more money at them, because we cannot possibly ask ourselves if government spending is an exercise in futility. Where will we get the money? We’ll just take it away from those bad old billionaires. Justice!
Deincentivising production always works wonders.
Why do you hate sharing?

“We will continue to have gender-specific (male and female) multi-stall restrooms that are readily available to any employee that prefers to use one. ”
No thanks, I’ll take a piss in the copy room recycle bin.
Sounds like every bathroom is intended to be used by men and women together, to me. “Gender-specific (male and female)” is gibberish, as in it makes no sense. Male and female isn’t gender specific at all, even for whatever debased meaning “gender” is intended to express.
And going with the current woke definition, there will be men and women allowed in every single bathroom in the building, not just the ones on the first, third, and fifteenth floors.
Wasn’t there a story about a week ago about how women are afraid to crap in restrooms at work because they were embarrassed that men would tease them? So now the men will be in the room with them? It is almost like these proposals are all about making people unhappy not accommodation.
How many stalls are set aside for guys who like to jerk off while they listen to women taking a dump? They’re going to need at least one per restroom.
Make sure to follow this up with some analysis of government-created barriers to entry. I have worked with a couple of people who had very attainable dreams of owning their own small business, who couldn’t get it going because of licensing and regulation.
I’ve toyed with the idea of starting my own business, but just *looking* at some of the regulations regarding sales taxes made me run.
Re Amazon streaming music:
This is why I buy and back up all my music and distrust streaming services.
We need to go back to sheet music and a piano!
Lots of pianos being given away via Craigslist if you wanna pay for moving and tuning, neither of which I can do for a vanity instrument. I can play (relatively well), but I never liked it enough to get to the music I really wanted to be able to play (Gershwin, Rachmaninoff). I got to deBussy and that was about my limit.
