Hey, kids! What time is it?
It’s time for SP to throw a spanner in the works of a state agency that has been, for two days now, thwarting her attempts to be a responsible business owner, while enforcing a blatant money-grab from small businesses! “Friendly to business,” my ass, AZ.
*sigh*
But, since I don’t want to feel the jackboot of The State on my neck, I’ll just have a cocktail and provide you with some links, that may or may not have already been posted in Morning Links or by the Glibertariat. I can’t be bothered to check.
Oh, wait. Before I uphold my sworn duty to provide links in place of the “indisposed” Brett L, I just want to mention that I am in possession of a fine photograph of a handsome group of Midwest Glibs who gathered at Fourscore’s Honey Harvest in September. (Also, the world famous snubber, Tundra, who I thought would be taller and have more hair.) Included is the charming wife of Bearded Hobbit, and Bearded Hobbit, both of whom I have had the honor of meeting.
I just want to reassure MikeS that nobody, especially me, will be able to pick him out of a lineup, so his witness protection identity is safe. Way to go with the sunglasses, hat, and carefully orchestrated lens flare, dude. Too bad nodakmat didn’t similarly mask his identity. It’s always those closest to us who do us in.
Leap is looking positively svelte, and pistoffnick is undoubtedly the most dashing of the lot, but what the hell is up with those dork glasses, Pope Jimbo?
On a serious note, I love seeing these occasional testaments to the very real community that has formed here at Glibertarians.com. It makes me feel that what we all do here in our small outpost matters, at least to our small group of humans. And, really, most of us will only ever be able to positively impact a tiny part of the world. I’m glad my part is here.
On to the links!
H/T Playa Manhattan who comments, “Things you will never see in the corporate media.”
Really? SWAT team? Los Doyers explains. “The slot machines were coming right for them!!”
And Trump? “Lots of sand.”
You know what? I want my men to be, you know, MEN! (I mean, if I would ever need any more than that manliest of men, OMWC. Which I most certainly never would. I love you, honey!)
And music!
Have a fun afternoon, kids! Mine’s getting better with every sip.
House votes to condemn Trump’s withdrawal of troops from Syria
Make Democrats Pro-War Again!
They could always go for an actual declaration of war.
I’d love to see Trump throw that in their faces.
They’ve always been pro war, they just opposed wars against communists
Especially when one of them was not in charge of the machine and profiting from the war…
All of their antiwar candidates that won in 2006 have all either lost their seats or been replaced by former CIA agents (no joke, look it up). Tulsi is the last one standing and they fucking hate her
You know who else is in the CIA?
Wait, is this one of those questions we answer with “Hitler”?
Weird Al
GHW BUSH?
Hitler?
Us, Commonwealth of Independent Assholes
Survey says….”the husband of the bitch who didn’t know how to drive in London.”
That makes sense
They drive on the wrong side of the road over there…
Chuck Barris ?
Anthony Bourdain?
Hello and greetings “Tulsi Gabbard Apologist” (and everyone else),
I hope that all of you have been and are currently doing well, in so far that you have been behaving in accordance with the non-aggression axiom (as I understand it).
Fuck off, Tulpa!
Pssst. Link needs fixed.
Damnit, of course it did. I’m on a mobile device while MIL-sitting and it makes those weird quote marks. Ah well.
Thanks, Edit Fairie!
PS. This entire links post was also written on this mobile device, so it’s not all bad.
Hello hello and welcome!
I would offer you a cocktail, but I know less than zero about alcohol.
The good stuff goes in the same glass as the nonalcoholic stuff. Pour it in first and you don’t even need a swizzle stick.
Did you used to comment over at TOS? Your handle seems familiar.
Turkish-Syrian battles are ‘not our problem’; Kurds are ‘not angels’
I understand that they are commies. So correct on both.
Well, I have just joined the ranks of the unemployed. I hate looking for a job.
Well that sucks.
^this, Sorry man!
Why bother? Vote Blue!
Yeah, free shit!
Oh, I am so sorry, dude. What industry are you in (if you feel like saying)?
Environmental remediation.
Asbestos removal?
Nah, I investigate and remediate contaminated sites, soil, ground water, I am the senior manager guy.
What happened? You were too good at your job and others decided you had to go?
The company was starting to hurt for work, so they decided they didn’t have enough work to support my salary. I was already starting to look around for an escape hatch.
The environment doesn’t need any more remediating thanks to OrangeManBad’s repealing of regulations.
Sorry to hear that. Best of luck on your search.
Thanks
Drop me an email, omwc at this domain.
Do you like working with children?
Voluntary or involuntary?
Got any leads on new work?
Fuckers decided they didn’t have enough work to support my salary. I do have a couple of leads since I was already kind of looking.
Oh, crap. Sorry, dude. Here, have a cocktail.
Ahh, thank you!
I’m having several, today sucked I spent it getting yelled at by a blustering ass of a lawyer.
Is there any other kind?
There are a few Glibs who are lawyers. Just sayin’.
No, Just Sayin’ isn’t a lawyer.
LOL I forgot about his handle!
It’s what you would call “a jest”.
Including me. Even lawyers hate lawyers (not always, but when you get one of the “If I yell loud and threaten all sorts of crazy shit people will do what I want” types you really really hate them)
I actually like lawyers. I dated one who swallowed, so I might have a bias.
Even lawyers hate lawyers
Probably because we know so many.
I knew it. A cocksucking lawyer.
This
There are a whole lot of blustering asses, too!
Ugh.
I hope the next one is better, dude.
Thanks
That sucks. Sorry dude.
Open to relocating?
Nah the wife won’t do that
Also, my expertise is based on knowledge and experience with New Jersey regulations and experience, so it doesn’t really translate to another state.
You see, modern New Jersey regulations are a product of five different regulatory traditions. Six if you wanna get technical.
You have my sympathy for the loss of your job, but you have even more of my sympathy for having to work in New Jersey.
Hope something better comes up ASAP.
I intend to flee NJ as soon as I can retire.
Hope something good comes along for you soon.
NJ seems like fertile ground for environmental remediation.
Sorry to here that, and best of luck.
Sorry to hear that. Best of luck finding a new gig.
Damn, sorry WTF.
Sorry dude. Been there and it ain’t fun…
Sorry to hear that. I just spent 4 hours in hazmat training.
Fired? Well, WTF?
Not fun. I hate looking for a job, too. That’s how I’m staying underemployed longer than I should.
Not a single “learn to code” comment from you miscreants!
Seriously, thanks for all the feedback, it really does make me feel better.
Note to self: When the toilet repair kit says DO NOT TIGHTEN WITH PLIERS, go get your gd pliers because that thing is going to leak and ruin your downstairs ceilings and walls.
It should really say do not over tighten with pliers.
It should say THIS THING IS A PIECE OF SHIT, YOU’RE PROBABLY GOING TO REGRET BUYING ME
I regret replacing the old floating rubber ball thing with the new plastic crap.
My toilet is 95-years-old. The mechanical parts wore out about three years ago. I am a stickler for authenticity, so I had it rebuilt by an antique plumbing restoration company. They had a place in upstate NY produce an exact replica of the original mechanics. Cost me a grand. My boss at the time asked me why I didn’t just buy a new one, because a grand will buy a very nice one. I told her not one that uses eight gallons per flush.
The most amazing toilets I have ever seen were in the IDS Tower back in the 1980’s when I worked there. I am certain they could easily handle the flushing of very large tomcat.
But enough about toilets.
Lets talk about what you’re doing to tomcats…
That snapping sound? That was things getting worse.
Been there before – and good luck trying to find just the tank you can replace. And then good luck finding a toilet that fits the drain only 12″ space from the back wall, and then good luck finding one that fits under vanity height. In my house, I now have four difference toilets because clearances are all different. Ah, memories.
If you can let them dry out and respray them with a can of similiar color. Don’t look closely at Chez Fourscore, particularly if you are doing an appraisal.
If your are talking about reseating a terlet get the long tube wax ring and tighten until the terlet doesn’t shake any more
I tried fixing a leak in my washing machine.
After fucking with it for 12 hours, trying to recreate the leaking condition, my Wife mentions that she hears a dripping sound coming from her toilet.
Which is directly over the laundry room.
Water was running down inside the wall to the water lines on the washer and pooling under the washer.
LOL
But only because it wasn’t me.
Water damage sucks.
Yes.
Slightly acidic water doesn’t mix with copper pipes. We had multiple leaks throughout and ended up replumbing with pex.
Plumbing problems are not going to be my financial responsibility much longer. So happy.
I had a similar problem, replaced the wax ring, reseated the toilet, I think it actually was condensation from the fill line in the summer high humidity, would drip onto the duct work and pool. When the pool got big enough would run off the duct and stain the ceiling tile.
its only did it 2-3 times in the past 25 years or so. Hence my suggestion to let it dry and spray paint the ceiling tile with a near color. I matched the color but the paint was gloss. I don’t care, who looks at the ceiling tile long enough to notice?
tighten until the terlet doesn’t shake any more
Fine dating advice you got there.
Hannah Gadsby on Why Men Should Be More Ladylike
She is certainly leading the charge on making women more manlike. Isn’t this the chick that did that comedy special that didn’t have any jokes?
Amy Schumer? Samantha Bee?
RE: Biden – I’d skip the apology and go straight for the slander suit. What an asshole.
Incoming: a wave of ever-more alpha-hole romance novel heroes. The un-manlier real life men get, the more dominating the romance novel heroes get.
This is the Yin to the Yang of men being willing to hold the hot chick’s knife. The alpha may be annoying to argue with, he may offend sensibilities that his more meek counterpart does not and he may not listen supportively, but he kills the tiger at the cave mouth and thus he gets laid. These people can squawk all they want about how things should be different, but we evolved over 3 billion years and the sexytime wiring is deep down in the hindbrain.
A romance novel hero might/will/can be tender and seem like he’s bowing to her wishes, but he’s not. It’s because he chooses to coddle her when she needs TLC and he’s so alpha it’s no big deal for him. He asserts his alpha with her when it’s important to him.
I do not believe women want to dominate their men. They want to be partners. Women have their turf. Men have theirs. Generally speaking, it’s her ruling the inside and him ruling the outside and major decisions by both of them. However, also generally speaking, he has the last say.
We have a thing in our house: Whoever it’s most important to gets their way. It’s just that most things, it’s not as important to Mr. Mojeaux as it is to me.
And in romance novels, the heroine defeats the hero through the power of her love and fucks him silly to reward him for his acquiescence.
But the no 1 quality women want from a man is kindness.
https://metro.co.uk/2019/07/26/kindness-number-one-quality-women-want-partner-10463689/
Actually not as contradictory as you might think. Women want strength and kindness. It’s one thing to take care of business but you don’t want that dangerous man to turn his strength against you.
Exactly so!
STEVE SMITH MORE DOMINATING THE ROMANCE
Sounds like Mojeaux is getting ready to write a STEVE SMITH romance novel?
Been done.
I mean, if I would ever need any more than that manliest of men, OMWC.
He doesn’t even eat meat. *folds steak in half and bites*
BA-ZING- GA!
That’s awesome.
Also: Don’t fuck with her, though.
Hey, kids! What time is it?
Time for me to leave for a long weekend!
Woohoo!
(Also, the world famous snubber, Tundra, who I thought would be taller and have more hair.)
What can I say? I play big.
https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/e37c43e1-baea-4825-8364-15d290fbc805
Lol. There you go.
Are you traveling to Phoenix this weekend so you can snub me again?
Sorry if this was covered elsewhere, but DoJ has Joseph Mifsud’s phones?? I’d have been skeptical, but Flynn’s court filing contains very, very specific identifying info on the phones (IMEI, SIM numbers). Does anyone know if these identifying numbers contain specific identifiers as to the country of original destination/In Service? For instance, does an IMEI number beginning with, say, “123” means it was shipped/Initially put in service in the US and “124” means England, or some such? Obviously wondering if Mifsud’s phones came from the United States/GB v. Russia/Ukraine/Malta.
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2019/10/15/wait-what-doj-has-possession-of-joseph-mifsud-cell-phones-blackberries/
You can probably identify the home location register, basically the network the phone outs initially linked to, from the SIM.
Presumably that would also give you an activation date as well?
You can get ranges, based on the numbers granted and comparing them to other values issued at known dates, but it isn’t exact and neither number stores the activation date itself.
That’s really helpful, thanks!
I’m not sure if the IMEI/SIM numbers can prove anything decisively but Mifsud has been affiliated with the Western intelligence services all his life. Yet, the Mueller report claimed he was a representative of the Russian government. Carter Page worked for the FBI for decades, then the U.S. Government solemnly swore–FOUR times–that he was a Russian agent. The proof that the Obama regime fabricated the Russia collusion hoax is already here.
That Biden story can’t be repeated often enough. He will throw anyone under the bus for an opportune anecdote. Total piece of shit.
Wish Cornpop had cornholed his sorry ass back when…
He did, why do you think the episode stuck with ol’ Joe?
When he was talking a bout getting the pool chain, it was a euphemism.
Ha-ha. Slip of the tongue or sick burn? I choose to believe the later.
Look at the date.
I was wondering if anyone would notice.
I’ve been preoccupied!
That’s the Glib attitude we’re looking for!
No one has mentioned this yet, we really are shitlords:
https://twitter.com/hashtag/PronounsDay?src=tren
I think Mojeaux mentioned it in the previous thread. Sorry.
How dare *insert Mojeaux’s preferred pronoun* ?
I believe her preferred pronoun for herself is “cunte”, and for you “cod”.
*looks at self in mirror*
She/her
Don’t people find she/her a bit awkward? To properly pronounce it requires kind of an odd shift from the closed mouth hissing exhale of the she to an open mouthed sharp exhale for the her, or do you slur it and pronounce it sheer?
Don’t know. Never said “she/her” in my life.
“Hi, I’m Mojeaux. Yes, I’m wearing a flowery print dress and cute little ballet flats and makeup, but in case you can’t tell, my pronouns are sheer.”
Some of us use the royal “we” to talk about ourselves, thank you very much.
“ballets flats”
Tieks ? (Im ashamed I know what those are)
*horrified*
NO!
Nice black suede flats with a nice satin bow on the toe I wear to church.
Otherwise, I wear Birkenstocks.
“flowery print dress and cute little ballet flats”
HAWT
I didn’t want to assume. I mean I did assume, but you know.
I’m lying. There is no such thing as a libertarian female.
You know, because my given name is ambiguous (no, it’s not Pat), I get a lot of mail addressed to Ms. Whiz. If it matters, I correct it, otherwise I ignore it.
About half the time I turn on NPR anymore it’s a discussion of gender and/or pronouns.
“House votes to condemn Trump’s withdrawal of troops from Syria”
And yet Congress still cannot bring itself to vote to authorize troops in Syria. Probably because that intervention is slightly less popular than Congress, itself.
Exactly, how did the troops get there in the first place!?!
The new myth that is being pushed is that we didn’t intervene until 2014 to fight ISIS. Same war, new lies.
I’ll add that we all also fapped to the photo as part of our monthly editors’ circle jerk.
Fd’A has the lasting power of a 13-year-old, by the way.
So he came before even touching it? Someone should get em a warm apple pie to practice with…
He’s always orgasming. It’s like some syndrome or something.
You promised not to tell. Did you have your fingers crossed behind your back?
That wasn’t my finger.
Ewwwwww.
Unfair comparison. 13-year-old boys have hair on their heads.
Hannah Gadsby’s stand-up special Nanette was the most discussed comedy act of the #MeToo moment.
Aaaaand done.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Nanette received an approval rating of 100% based on reviews from 46 critics and a 25% approval rating based on +1200 audience reviews.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannah_Gadsby
And I think that’s all I need to know.
Look at the reviewer score for Nanette versus the viewer score. Then look at the reviewer score for Dave Chappelle’s recent special versus the viewer score.
It’s the best explanation of populism I’ve ever seen
Inverse of Dave Chappelle then?
Chappelle usually is funny.
Why do they even bother with the reviewer score?
I think the underlying logic is that professional reviewers are supposed to be better versed in the technical aspects of what they’re reviewing. For films generally, that may make sense. I’m not so sure about comedy specials, though. The problem, almost consistently, is that professional reviewers don’t live in some sort of platonic ideal world where their technical expertise is the sole judge of their evaluations. They live in distinct subcultures with distinct social mores and expectations. They’re making non-technical evaluations just as much as the general public.
If the professional reviewers had not gone all in SJW I’d agree. The reason the scores “ratio” is that the professionals are pushing a political narrative and the viewers just want to be entertained.
If the professional reviewers had not gone all in SJW
Well, that’s a pretty good summation of the point.
That said, I’m not sure the critics weren’t always pushing a political narrative. It’s just there wasn’t a counterpoint of public voting in contrast to the critics. Well, except with their dollars. And there’ve always been movies that make a killing but aren’t loved by critics.
Bingo
And they push the political narrative because they’re afraid of the mob and they want to keep their jobs.
I’m not so sure it’s purely fear of the mob. I think, for the most part, they’re in agreement with the mob, or even in the lead of it. Except if, by the mob, you’re thinking of the rest of their particular subcultural peer group.
Any thoughts they would have of defying the mob are surely tempered by a healthy fear of the repercussions.
You’re supposed to like it, shitlord, it doesn’t matter if it’s terrible.
It was? I’ve never heard of her or the special.
#meneither
Who? What?
“ House votes to condemn Trump’s withdrawal of troops from Syria”
They’re willing to fight to the last drop of the lower middle classes’ blood in Syria. What a disgusting bunch of war-mongering defense industry bought and paid for motherfuckers they’ve become.
“They’re willing to fight to the last drop of the lower middle classes’ blood in Syria.”
^ This.
Of course the only people who support that conflict are people in the corporate press and think tankers, because no one they know is going to die in that bullshit cluster fuck.
Don’t hold back. Tell us what you really think. (Agreed, by the way.)
“How dare you stop fighting the war we refused to authorize!”
When I saw “Newark” I wasn’t sure which new “Newark” we were talking about. I ashamed to admit old Joe and I went to the same university albeit at different times.
For those who don’t know that is pronounced “New Ark” in DE and “Nurk” in NJ.
when I worked in Chadd’s Ford near the DE/PA border, I was VERY confused why so many people were going to north jersey on such a regular basis and why none of them could say it right
until someone pointed out that Newark, DE was a place
Dude! #metoo!
The river that runs through Wichita, Kansas is called the ar-kansas river in Kansas and called the Ar-kan-saw river in Arkansas
Also the Ar-kansas in Colorado.
I had three in mind and all were wrong. (NJ, NY, CA)
It’s National
PronounsGo Fuck Yourself Day?I wasn’t even aware.
Halloween ain’t for two weeks!
“You know what? I want my men to be, you know, MEN! ”
Yeah, I would love to be catty, obsessively gossipy, and constantly complain that despite me putting no effort into shit I am being held back by the patriarchy and get away with it…
I don’t know, but that came across as pretty catty.
Good job!
Bobarian wins the internet!
(Sean won yesterday.)
“WT Actual F?”
What the fuck, is that this is the proof that the left would turn into war mongers just as soon as it fits their political purpose, in this case, orange man bad. They’d carpet bomb half the planet if they think that says a big FU to badoranageman.
“ I mean, if I would ever need any more than that manliest of men, OMWC.“
Some of us actually know him. Just sayin’.
Stockholm syndrome is powerful stuff Spud, especially in the very young.
My Wife said she married me because of the way I carried myself, like a Fucking MAN!
now I’m just a skinny old Guy,
That’s better than being a fat old guy.
“It makes me feel that what we all do here in our small outpost matters”
It matters.
I’m reminded of how Dalton Trumbo went from writing Johnny Got His Gun to Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. Gee I wonder what happened?
The Nazis invaded the Soviet Union. That one isn’t hard to figure out.
Don’t hold your breath. Biden ain’t apologizing for nuffin. That narrative must be so embedded in his psyche there’s no way to pull the truth out of it.
I wish her luck because she’s right.
hold the hot chick’s knife
What the Hell kind of a euphemism is that?
That should have been “grab the hot chick by the sheath”.
I hear that’s how rich NYC real-estate magnates do it.
The other night when Mojeaux made a comment about the hot crazy matrix I proposed that at a certain point on the hot scale no degree of crazy would stop most of us from hopping into bed. My specific example was that if Squeaky Fromme had looked like Phoebe Cates in Fast Times we’d all have been willing to hold her knife.
I proposed that at a certain point on the hot scale no degree of crazy would stop most of us from hopping into bed
If so, you age out of it.
I’ve known a couple that didn’t.
It was not good for anyone except to the crazy mail order Russian bride that got the estate.
I’ve known a couple that didn’t.
AKA stabbing victims.
Evidence supports the proposition that just as many age into it. How many trophy wives have you met that were more competent or stable than their predecessors?
Fair point. I’m generalizing from my own experience, always a dicey business.
Hmm…yeah, yeah this checks out. And for some of us it’s surprisingly low. If I wasn’t married I’d probably be dead or in prison. Well, at least flat broke.
I read it as “hold the hot chick’s wife”.
I like the cut of your jib.
“Hannah Gadsby on Why Men Should Be More Ladylike”
In GQ no less. Who runs that rag now? Cucks?
Oh. And suck my dick.
GQ: New Masculinity:
https://twitter.com/GQMagazine?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
New masculinity means….wearing a dress made out of a sleeping bag? I am perplexed.
Maybe he’s going camping?
Oh, Mary.
In time for the season. Wrap some lights around that dude and put a star on his head.
A chick that looks like a prepubescent boy writing an article about why men should look like women. I can’t keep up.
Wait until the next Profile in Toxic Masculinity. It’s a doozy.
You are writing an OMWC biography?
That would be, “Profile in Toxic”.
Trump says Kerr acted ‘like he was scared’. Hilarious. Notice the guy in the background trying to keep it together. Too funny.

Donald Trump is another example of this. He is no socon, fiscal conservative or advocate for reducing military spending yet the progs and the elites act like he is an ancap..
My meticulously constructed systems for avoiding work at, well, work have not been functioning as designed. Been kinda scarce, gonna be kinda scarce. That said:
Never doubt, TPTB, it matters.
No doubt. Skip a day and watch our heads explode. Thank you a million times over.
Dont even think about that! What would we do?
Get a bucket and a mop for blackjack’s ‘sploded head?
This would not go how you think.
Within hours of telling Breitbart News that he is not going to confiscate AR-15s, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke told MSNBC that law enforcement will go to the home of the non-complaint to “recover” the rifles.
He was interviewed on Morning Joe, and asked what he will do if a “rancher in Texas” refuses to comply with a government-mandated AR-15 buyback.
O’Rourke said:
I think just as, in any law that is not followed, or flagrantly abused, there have to be consequences, or else there is no respect for the law. In that case, I think there would be a visit by law enforcement to recover that firearm and to make sure that it is purchased, bought back, so that it cannot be, potentially used against someone else.
Matt Welch was wrong. Shocker.
Matt Welch is confiscating guns? What?
He better bring ENB along for some muscle
No I meant Welch thought Beto would be somewhat libertarian. Back when he ran for his House seat he complained about spending. Obviously he meant that then and today and modern Democratic internal politics is moving to libertarianism.
Welch is the worse political prognosticator in the history of bad political prognosticators. You’re always safe assuming the opposite of what he says.
Not sure if I would go that far but I knew the “Libertarian Moment” was bullshit back when he first started it in 2008 and I didn’t need to be a pollster or poli sci professor to realize that.
“Libertarian Moment”
The fusion reactor of politics.
Now 10 years sooner than never.
“cannot be potentially used”
Prejudgment for the win
What a piece of degenerate shit this shit stain.
Maybe he should pick up some Beccaria and look into immoral laws.
Just because the state enacts or rams a law through doesn’t mean citizens should comply.
Also. Sounds like he would jerk off to Waco like events.
He jerks off to the ideas that anyone thinks he’s important and competent, all evidence to the contrary.
Robert Francis O’Rourke – proof that it is possible to be simultaneously a cunte and a cod.
So he has three chromosomes? XXY? That would explain a lot.
“I think just as, in any law that is not followed, or flagrantly abused, there have to be consequences, or else there is no respect for the law.”
Now apply that to sanctuary cities.
You know what? I want my men to be, you know, MEN!
Sound like what she really wants, going by her photo, is for women to be more manly. If she thinks making men for feminine is really a good thing, then she should be very pleased. Because the younguns that I see are more effeminate than any group of teenaged and twenty-someething men than I can recall in my lifetime.
She just wants cake.
California cookie?
So, that letter from Trump to Erdogan … yeah. Hm.
What did it say?
I’m always confused if this week it’s “how dare you undermine NATO, Mr. President” or if it’s “OMG- ruin NATO, Mr. President”.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EHBmdVLW4AIk3IT?format=jpg&name=large
Transcribed:
That’s very Trump-like.
He writes like he speaks (not a compliment).
So, I’m confused, are we upset that he’s undermining NATO this week or are we pissed that he’s not? I’m sure people switching between the two talking points each week are very genuine. I just need to understand what is orange man bad for this week, besides ending an illegal war?
I’m talking about the content of the letter as opposed to us getting the fuck out of the conflict there.
Dude can’t speak or write above an eighth grade level. I get that. I can’t sit through one of his speeches, because it’s just meandering verbal diarrhea.
I’m asking what are the talking points for this letter. What are journalists telling us to be outraged about with this letter? Like I said, I’m sure journalists are genuine in their ever shifting and contradictory outrage. I was just wondering what specifically about this letter
What’s wrong with that? (other than the fact that Trump is inept with language which we already knew)
Besides that it looks like something my kid in 5th grade wrote?
It would be better if it were written with some more sophisticated language. On the other hand, writing a letter to a person who is not a native speaker of the language in simple, direct language might make it easier to translate without error and make it totally clear what exactly is being said. As a historical document it’s fuckin’ laughable, but as a business memo it’s about par for the course, and the primary audience is not kids reading about it in a textbook forty years from now.
Happy Go-Fuck-Yourself Day
The ideal tax rate for the richest 1% of Americans is about 75% — more than twice the current rates, according to the economist advising Sen. Elizabeth Warren on her tax plans.
Gabriel Zucman, the University of California at Berkeley economist who is advising Warren and Sen. Bernie Sanders on their wealth tax proposals, told CNBC Tuesday that there is an “optimal” tax rate for the rich when considering tax policy. The optimal rate would be high enough to maximize revenue from the economy’s winners and reduce inequality, but not so high that it would lead to widespread evasion or reduced productivity among the wealthy.
According to the calculations in his new book co-written by Emmanuel Saez, “Triumph of Injustice — How the Rich Dodge Taxes and How to Make Them Pay,” the optimal federal marginal income tax rate would be 60%. But the optimal effective tax rate for the rich in combined taxes — including federal, state, payroll and local — would be 75%.
Well, if an economist says it, it must be true. He plugged some numbers into a spreadsheet, I bet.
A linear regression of tax tolerance based on samples at 20 and 25 percent respectively.
But the optimal effective tax rate for the rich in combined taxes — including federal, state, payroll and local — would be 75%.
This is why blue states have lots of revenue and no inequality.
Is this where I repeat, yet again, that the 50-70-90% marginal rates seen from post-WWII until the 1986 Tax Code were never actually paid, and that there were so many shelters and other ways to avoid taxes that the ~40% rates seen after the 1986 Code were a significant tax hike for most of the rich?
There’s a reason that tax revenues as a percentage of GDP have remained nearly constant for decades. Raising marginal tax rates on the rich isn’t going to change that.
The baseline, set in the Constitution, for fairness in taxation is that any direct tax must effectively be the same amount for each person. We abandoned fairness when we allowed an income tax, but even if we accept the proposition that taking a percentage of income to fund the Government is fair, the percentage MUST be the same for each person in order to be ‘fair’. The progressive tax system is inherently unjust and a deprivation of equal protection, and yet no one says a word, all we do is argue about what degree of inequity is most fair.
“Optimal” only has meaning in reference to goal of some kind.
So what’s their goal?
Well, it’s not going to come close to funding their Utopia so the obvious answer is “punishment”.
Why should the government be trying to maximize revenue? It’s not supposed to be a for-profit business. The idea that it should maximize revenue is immoral.
I guess he crunched all of the complex data to be exact and precise and still came up with two big ol’ round numbers.

Would you like to know what really erodes respect for the law, Beta? Stupid laws, impossible to enforce, proposed and written by morons like you.
Asked and answered.
Ouch. When I met him he didn’t look dorky. Rather dashing, in fact.
Well, not dorky.
Regarding men being MEN:
Hank Rearden v Dagny Taggart.
That is all.
Yeah, but she left him for the “superior” asshole. Reardon is about the only character Rand ever wrote with any depth. The notion that Galt was the superior man rubbed me wrong even at 14. Why? In what way? Galt’s big accomplishment was that he took his ball and went home. If Rand actually believed that was the path of virtue why have I read her works?
THANK YOU!!!
She was wrong wrong wrong. I always hated Galt. He was flat, one-note, and not sexy in the least bit.
Also, I just pretend that whole Galt thing never happened. Head canon #FTW.
Yep. I’d take d’Anconia or Readon over Galt any day.
What I hated was that both of them just stood aside.
Rearden, in a note:
“I’ve met him. I don’t blame you.”
REALLY?! You lost your mancard, pal. But I pretend that didn’t happen.
Who was the guy who set the oil fields on fire? Wyatt? More interesting than Galt. Hell, the kid trying to figure out the equations for the engine was more interesting that Galt.
Wyatt set his oil fields on fire.
d’Anconia destroyed his copper mines.
Danneskjöld was a pirate interrupting the shipping lanes.
Rearden walked away from his factory.
Different book, same idea: Roark dynamited some apartment complexes.
To quote John McLaughlin, “You are all WRONG”
The correct answer? The hero of the book was Midas Mulligan.
I bought a shirt that said “John Galt’s got nothing on Hank Rearden.” Didn’t fit me. I had XX wear it to school a couple of times when she was in elementary. I don’t know if it elicited any reactions. (Her favorite shirt right now is “The NSA knows you bought this Rand Paul shirt.”)
Wait!
Aside from being poorly written, what did Galt ever do wrong?
Nothing. He did…nothing. He was nothing. He was an IDEA with a body, nothing more, nothing less.
I don’t want to sleep with an idea. I want to sleep with a man.
Rearden was warm and alive, flawed and rich with feeling. He was worthy of Dagny. Dagny had every reason to fall in love with him. She had no reason at all to fall in love with Galt. She chased a shadow.
But that sounds like a good reason to not have sex with him, not to hate him.
I have typed out several explanations, but none were satisfactory.
I do not hate Galt as a man or a character. I hate how he was written as also a ROMANTIC, sexual hero.
I suppose what I HATE is that Dagny chose him over Rearden.
I hate that Rearden stepped aside. Well, I hate that d’Anconia also stepped aside.
So no, I guess I don’t hate Galt.
But he was not the hero of that book.
Didn’t Reardon sexually assault her?
My apologies, if I’m remembering that wrong as I haven’t read Rand in quite a while
No. You’re thinking of The Fountainhead. And although people say there’s a rape scene, there’s nothing of the sort.
That you for the clarification. Yeah, it definitely wasn’t rape from what I remember. I read The Fountainhead probably fifteen years ago. I always confuse it with Atlas Shrugged. I don’t think I’ve even read Atlas Shrugged.
My mistake
Fountainhead was the better of the two books.
Agreed.
In addition to what Mad Scientist said, Rand answered the accusation with “If it was rape, it was rape by engraved invitation.” Every experience romance reader knows what was going on in that scene.
Also: Looking Through a Paradigm Darkly: Was Dominque’s rape in The Fountainhead actually rape? Why … or why not?
Rearden and Dagny had rough sex.
I beg mercy for my error. I bow before you in a manner similar to the NBA bowing before the great and omnipotent Xi.
Sincerely sorry for the confusion.
Hrmphf. I’ll forgive you. This time.
https://aier.org/article/the-nbas-china-problem-due-to-political-control-over-markets/
Surprised AIER has been pretty pro-China.
Blockquote>It should have demonstrated, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that however much China has been praised for its four decades of economic reforms in a direction permitting degrees of individual initiative and private business, the entire Chinese economy remains under the microscopic control and command of the government. If and when businesses are left alone by the Chinese government, it is when those directing and managing those enterprises are doing what is explicitly or implicitly in the directions the Chinese authorities wants them to be moving.
And when those doing the central planning of the Chinese economy, starting with President Xi at the top, want any or all of those enterprisers to do different things differently, they are instantly at the beck and call of those holding the power of life and death over them and their businesses. This is the meaning of “socialism with Chinese characteristics.” Others might call it economic fascism, under which businesses may nominally be in private hands, but it is the government that ultimately determines and dictates how those in charge of their businesses go about doing business. In other words, economic fascism is simply socialism with nominal (and not real) private-enterprise characteristics.
Why is it just “economic” fascism?
The whole system fits the fascist model pretty well.
This is a pretty good description of the Chinese economic system. The notable fact is that it’s also a pretty good description of what a number of the Democratic candidates for president are proposing for the U.S. economy.
Ah so China’s economic reforms are influencing America!

Since this started, I have been predicting malpractice lawsuits against the quacks “counselling” and prescribing for minors to transition. To my knowledge, nobody is actually doing surgery on them, but I could be wrong.
Although minors receiving hormones and puberty blockers are way more common, there are even stupid laws defending it:
https://www.medicaldaily.com/gender-reassignment-surgery-now-available-oregon-minors-without-parental-consent-342670
Who is paying for it?
That doesn’t have a simple answer. Some insurance covers it, others don’t, or cover some things, but not others.
That is horrifying. Minors have authority under Roe v Wade and its progeny to consent to abortions and reproductive health (birth control, their own pregnancies, that kind of thing), but that’s because it has been specifically recognized as a Constitutional right. What’s the justification for this?
I certainly don’t think you can bill the parents for it if they didn’t consent to it. If an insurance company actually has benefits for it, I think they would probably still be on the hook.
WIthout doing any research, I would expect this is highly misleading. I suspect they are overstating the court-created rights of minors to control their own reproductive health as “the age of medical consent”. I am not aware of any state that gives a general right of medical consent to 15 year olds, but there’s a lot of states, and some of them are really stupid.
“15 year olds”
Have you not been keeping up? Not only do 15 year olds now have equal rights to adults, they now have more. Get woke! 15 year olds should now be able to tell us old fuddy duddys how to live our life. You non-wokes, no wonder we can’t achieve utopia.
I feel justified in stealing their future.

Replying to @RepThomasMassie
We promised to fight terrorism wherever they hide. This is what led us to Syria. I guess Americans DO have a short term memory. Now leaving disrupts our allied forces.
“We need to arm and fund them over there, so we can later fight them there too.”
Oh, someone voted ‘present’. Well that’s clearly the principled vote regarding illegal war.
Much bravery
“It takes real principle to vote present on illegal war, because blah blah blah….libertarian moment!”
Derp
*cough* Bullshit. *cough*
This is the type of thing I expected to see from Justin Amash, erstwhile member of the Freedom Caucus.
Amash voted “present”. A much braver stance (as it will be spun).
That pretty much seals his descent into irrelevance.
Yep. What a disappointment.
I mean, he’s not even my Congresscritter, but I feel like Amash’s descent into the swamp is a genuine betrayal.
I’ve been trashed a couple times here for saying that “you know where Tulsi stands”, but that the same can’t be said for Amash (not since the Koch network saved him from the Chamber of Commerce unseating him).
This isn’t the first time he’s voted present on something that he supposedly had a principled position on, but this is the most clarifying.
You all owe Tulsi an apology.
I can only speak for me: I have viewed Amash as one of “ours,” or at least overlapping enough philosophically to feel like “ours.” Tulsi doesn’t feel like “ours,” so it’s easy to (basically) ignore her.
Agreed, Mo. I’m just messing with you guys
All I imagine is heads exploding reading my remark. And now I am pleased
I would have been very disappointed in Amash if I didn’t view him with the jaundiced eye with which I view all politicians.
Tulsi is the only non-warmonger running for President at present, as far as I can tell. She twisted herself into pretzels last night to not say “Obama got us into this” by saying, it started in 2011. Really, Tulsi? Who was President then?
Yes, but she looked relatively hot while doing so.
Some of us aren’t single issue isolationist voters. I, for example, would vote for an invasion of Canada if it came with a balanced budget, repeal of the income tax and restoration of the size of the Fed Gov to pre 1900 levels.
and screw Amash. He is a Statist politician whore, he’s just to stupid to understand being faux libertarian gets you nothing.
/points at corner of Glibs with a Canadian flag over a corner booth
Ixnay on the invasionay of Anadcay, already!
Could we get rid of the silly French language requirement?
Sometimes you have to sacrifice a Muppet or two.
Oui
We would have to abolish democracy, too. Otherwise, the former Canadians will vote.
No, that’s true, Tulsi’s pretty open about her positions. I only agree with one of them, mind you, but it’s a good ‘un.
I’m not going to argue the point, because I was mainly being a real LeBron James to rile you guys up. I like Amash a lot (but less and less as his votes become more peculiar).
But, you got to give Tulsi credit for this vote. I think she’s the only Democrat who voted “no”. That is a principled vote and I respect the shit out of her for this vote and a whole bunch of other ones under Obama
These euphemisms.
It’s a principled vote when she could have hid behind the WOT, and refused. So kudos to Tulsi.
“This is the type of thing I expected to see from Justin Amash”
Well, it is nice to see him snap out of his TDS coma for once. And I’m not sticking up for Trump here, if he deserves criticism good, but for a while there, Amash seemed to be on the ‘orange bad man is bad!’ track.
He voted “present”, so he’s still on the train
I can sort of get it, maybe. Maybe he’s saying ‘how do I vote on a situation that shouldn’t exist to begin with?’. But still, I would have voted no myself. Not that it matters, that’s going nowhere in the Senate. And even if it does, ‘I disapprove of ye!’. What a fucking waste of time.
Does this sort of thing even go to the Senate?
I don’t even know.
It will disappear into a drawer on McConnell’s desk.
Yeah, I interpreted it as “mu“.
But I also find it overly cutesy. The correct answer was “no”. Amash would have lost nothing had he done so, and gained nothing by not doing so.
Here’s hoping Trump responds by telling Congress if they want a say, they should put a declaration of war to a vote. Otherwise, this is CinC business, butt out.
It would be best. It would die in the house. It would be like asking the dems to do an actual vote on impeachment. Not happening.
I just got out of a full day
re-education daycampculture training. The implicit bias part was probably the least bad part of the whole thing. I actually didn’t have too much to say against that part. The rest made my skin crawl. Fuck the gussied up Marxism that is peddled by HR departments around the world. Here’s a cocktail for you, too.
“The implicit bias part was probably the least bad part of the whole thing. I actually didn’t have too much to say against that part.”
Huh, I had to do that last month. I think the basis of it, at least at the workshop I was at, is pretty thin.
This one was fairly bland. 1) your brain takes shortcuts, which causes you to bias your decisionmaking. 2) this can be good or bad depending on what you want to accomplish. 3) you can’t make this bias go away. 4) there are ways to attempt push your mind out of the shortcuts and force your pre frontal cortex to engage.
Minimal I&D for the presentation, minimal guilt tripping. Overall, I wasn’t particularly annoyed with that part of the day. The rest of the day was stereotypical leftist HR dreck.
Yeah, that sounds relatively benign. The one I was at was based on the whole “we made people look at images on a screen and measured how long thier eyes stayed on an image.”
Oh geez. I think we looked at one where people paid less for a theoretical gift card on ebay with a woman’s name listedaas the contact, which perked my bullshit meter, but it was a passing point, not something that was harped on.
My “favorite” part of the day was “we know what our diversity numbers are, but we don’t know what our numeric goals should be. However that won’t stop us from improving the numbers”
It was especially rich because they want to improve our 52% female department. ?
By getting rid of the surplus 2%?
Can you imagine the bitch fit people would throw if that was the conclusion?
When I hear “diversity numbers” I assume they’re talking about racial quotas.
Fewer white males.
Trashy….you are a better man than I am. No way I could sit through that shit and keep my mouth shut.
Oh, you can. You’re going to get your chops in, I always do. Maybe not during the meeting, but I’m going to get one or a few of them on their own and then I’m going to get my point across, oh yes I am. Everyone knows it’s bullshit anyway, everyone just pretends to go along, just like you do in any other bullshit meeting. And bullshit meeting will continue until moral improves. Just think of it as a sort of a charity for people without real skills to still be employable. Else we just get more on the government dole.
I’ve never had anything more than a 45-minute slide show & quiz you take on your own time. But yes, everybody knows it’s bullshit.
What kills me is they make you take it every. single. year.
“I just got out of a full day re-education daycamp culture training.”
You didn’t get asked to do that gay happy tuna shit, did you? Good thing I got out of that meeting at my client that day, since I actually have real work to do. I now seem to get the ‘whenever you’re working on this, decline the meeting’ treatment. I think that’s both because real work actually needs to be done and keeping Hyperion as far away from that meeting is probably best before he says something that shocks everyone into silence and ‘oh noes, did he really just say that!’.
You didn’t get asked to do that gay happy tuna shit, did you?
Nope, no touching, whether of the aquatic or regular type.
They were doing it in a meeting after that and there were only maybe 5 of us in there. I did the high five and the fist bump and then I said ‘I ain’t doing that happy tuna shit, that’s gay! All I got was ‘Hyperion, it’s happy salmon’ and I said ‘whatever, it’s gay’. *crickets*
If you can do real work, you can get away with a lot of that, no matter how woke the org is. I remember a couple of years ago I was in a high level meeting and another software engineer who has been there for maybe 20 years, one of the guys in the meeting who is pretty high up, VP or something said something and he said ‘Well, you know, that’s not like it’s something no one ever thought of before and anyway, some of us have real work to do’. The entire room sent silent, bus I did notice some people were trying to suppress bursting out laughing, myself included. My boss and I were laughing about that all the way back to our office. I admit I’m not quite that bold, but the guy is still there.
What you do here in this small outpost does matter SP. It provides me with some small measure of sanity.
I should add that you have my utmost respect and sympathy for your efforts with your MIL.
Well, who wants a large measure of sanity, anyway?

Sanity is overrated.
You’d know, dude!
Here, have a cocktail.
Don’t mind if I do. Thanks!
Blissful ignorance does have it’s benefits. I’ve known a few really dim bulb types and I always found it amazing how happy they seemed to be all of the time, no matter how bad their current situation was. It would annoy me to no end, but I now see how they were better off in a way. Like the Biblical saying goes, I think it is ‘Knowledge is the beginning of all sorrows’. Makes sense, if you aren’t aware of how shitty things are, how can you be sad about it?
