Well, half the World Series is set. Congratulations Nationals for reaching uncharted waters. The Astros also won to take a 2-1 series lead against the Yankees. There supposed to play game 4 today but that might not happen if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Oh well, an extra day’s rest for JV and Greinke means one less start by someone else.
The Maple Leafs beat the Wild. Y’all were right, they do suck. Other winners were: Tampa, Phoenix, Calgary, Vancouver, Nashville, and Carolina. In other things, Lebron stepped on his dick even more before saying he wouldn’t speak about the situation (in China) anymore. And the USMNT lost to Canada, which is fucking humiliating. Time to scrap the national team altogether and save us the national embarrassment.
The dictionary guy Noah Webster was born on this day. So were: pervert Oscar Wilde, first Israeli PM David Ben-Gurion, Irish revolutionary Michael Collins, actress Angela Lansbury, annoying announcer Tim McCarver, actress Suzanne Summers, comedic director David Zucker, actor Tim Robbins, bassist Flea, and Ohio State fan (and baseball player) Bryce Harper.
OK, on to…the (debate-free) links!
Looks like Brett Kavanaugh’s type of judges. Question: why are people being charged with misconduct for engaging in a perfectly legal activity (like getting drunk and enjoying White Castle)?
Its time to put up or shut up on Hong Kong. I’m anxious to see how many of our so-called leaders really stand for freedom. I expect to be disappointed.
Pelosi opts to continue the kangaroo court rather than open a legitimate impeachment inquiry. Because nothing says fair and impartial like preventing the other side from calling witnesses or having access to the alleged witnesses.
The rats are taking over the Big Apple. This isn’t a metaphor. I mean no-shit rodents, not deBlasio and his lackeys.
The Anaheim Angels (of Los Angeles) are imploding over the Tyler Skaggs situation. I don’t know what’s next, but I’m curious to see if anybody in the organization survives this without losing their job or going to prison.
What the fucking fuck?!?!?!?! That’s it, no spoilers.
Now go have a great day, friends!
– do MLB still play 2 3 2 playoff games instead of the superior 2 2 1 1 1?
Its 2-3-2. MLB respects global warming-Greta too much to add the extra travel.
It’s 2-3-2.
I think it is 2-3-2.
well 3 confirmations seals it
I don’t know how good it is to have a long rest off with the way this Astros vs Yankees series is headed, nats might get a week of sitting around. Whatever I’ll take it. We get to set the pitching for Max effect. But good lord both those AL teams might be two of the better teams assembled this entire decade and most of the last one as well.
Come on Mariners, this is your year, I can feel it
Its time to put up or shut up on Hong Kong. I’m anxious to see how many of our so-called leaders really stand for freedom. I expect to be disappointed. – sadly I don’t see this ending well for Hong Kong
30 years ago I would agree with you. The world is watching now (and is much more intertwined). The last time there were serious crackdowns, most of the world knew nothing about it.
Also the Soviet Union was still sort of a thing. Like it or not, the ChiComs have to tread carefully here.
“30 years ago I would agree with you. The world is watching now (and is much more intertwined). The last time there were serious crackdowns, most of the world knew nothing about it.”
30 years ago there was not 24/7 internet access and the apologists for communism did their damnest best to hide the facts (they are still doing so now unless they can use it to attack orange man). Even in China, with one of the most brutal and repressive government systems to control information, they will not be able to hide the details of China using force to deal with this, and the leadership in power, now more fascist in nature than communist, knows this.
I think this goes one of two ways: either the Chinese back off in the short-term and then quietly disappear prominent figures in the protests and the democracy movement over time once we’ve moved on to the next cause du jour, or they go full police state and there’s significant diplomatic backlash…and not much else.
Even 30 years ago there was international recognition. I remember watching the Tank Man standing up to the Chicoms.
And what changed because of that? We still have western companies sucking up to Xinnie the Pooh. Poor Tankman died so Lebron could sell some more shoes.
The world is watching now (and is much more intertwined). The last time there were serious crackdowns, most of the world knew nothing about it.
But realistically, how does that change things? China is not some small nation that can be pressured by the big boys to change its behavior. It is one of the big boys. And besides, there is a large network of nations that will support China even if a large portion of the world condemns it. China has been cultivating relationships all around the world, and there are many governments that do not disapprove of their tactics. I don’t see “the world is watching” as any serious deterrent. Their only deterrent is if their own people were watching, for then the revolution would have a risk of spreading, but it seems they have that locked down pretty well.
Money and trade. Sure there are countries that will support China, but the US and Europe are too big to ignore.
We’ll see. Maybe i’m wrong, but when I was a kid the idea of Russia collapsing was laughable.
I’m not wondering if China will collapse, but how much damage it will cause when it does.
You are not wrong on your assessment, Tundra. Trade will be the main reason the Chinese government will have to worry about using force. Their over-inflated GDP numbers are now under serious assault as their economy is finally really showing that it is neither growing as fast as they have been claiming for the last 20 or so years nor as robust as they pretend (mostly due to the fact that it is an economy based on lots of government Keynesian credit, pilfered IP industries, and riddled by corruption and crime), and the 300 million or so Chinese that have been riding that growth wave will immediately turn on their leadership – which has received a pass on any and all malfeasance because everyone was making good from the criminality – if they suffer any kind of economic downturn.
The Chinese government under Xi, after having three weak American presidents that were just willing to drop to their knees to suck the Chicomm leadership’s dicks in the last decade plus convinced them the US was already rolling over and playing dead, jumped the gun and accelerated the plan of making China a global power (by military force if needed) a decade or two too early. Unfortunately for them, Trump, always looking to be a contrarian, has basically decided to push hard at the house of cards over there, which has put them in a serious an precarious position.
Resistance from Hong Kong comes for them at the worst possible time. They must do something about it, but force, like they used in the past, will only cause them more problems than they can handle. I suspect the comment that they will opt to lay low and then when nobody is looking take out the leadership in Hong Kong, is where this will end up going.
Now, here’s the $1 million question. Will the U.S. and Europe actually do anything? I mean, the EU? As far as I can tell, they’re mostly jealous over the level of control the Chinese have managed to pull off. And, while Trump may well take a tough stance, I don’t have much confidence that the majority of the U.S. political class won’t turn on him.
While this is a good point, that the US and Europe could really put the screws to China if they set their mind to it, would they? Token sanctions, the type they like to slap on bad actors, won’t do anything, and an all-out embargo would require a monumental amount of political will, given how much push-back there’s been to the relatively minor tariffs placed during the trade-war. Perhaps a massacre of HK protesters would generate that amount of will, but given how willing people are to work with China despite all of its already known atrocities, I have my doubts. I hope I’m wrong.
With the size inflation of cargo ships, it’s a lot easier to blockade a country, you need only intercept a handful of vessels. With drones and sattelites, it’s never been easier to keep tabs on them.
The genie is out of the bottle.
Countries are not the issue, companies ARE.
Today China can bully companies into bending the knee because they need access to the Chinese market. Start putting significant pressure from the customer side to boycott China and items made in China and those companies will have a strong vested interest in finding a new market for cheap labor and China will lose it’s leverage and discover that it needed those companies as much as they needed China
The current sanctions already have gone a long – very long – way in encouraging many companies to relocate to other Asian countries with friendlier policies (and less risk of IP being stolen than in China). I only see that move accelerating. Too many companies have found themselves competing with cheap Chinese knockoffs of their product within a few years and now, with the current changes in the region economically, moving or looking to move to friendlier shores with new markets as well.
What the fucking fuck?!?!?!?! That’s it, no spoilers. – do not judge different cultures? I dunno I got nothing
Not judging was like 30 years ago. Now we are required to celebrate all cultures! And invite them to live next door and practice their craziness in the neighborhood.
It seems like there’s a market opportunity here. Raise the “unwanted” Indian girls and sell them on a mail order bride website to men from China and other countries where they have idiotically and cruelly fucked with the gender ratio. Profit!
And you can probably get a good 10 to 12 years of good orphan labor out of them before the sale.
India will soon have a girl shortage. just stash em there for 14 years
The rats are taking over the Big Apple. This isn’t a metaphor. I mean no-shit rodents, not deBlasio and his lackeys. – meh honestly does not seem that unusual for a big city…
When your city smells so bad on the regular that nobody notices the smell of a decomposing body for two weeks, it might be a little out of the norm.
I’m surprised they discovered the body after only two weeks. Must have been a busy sewer.
If it had been a week later, they wouldn’t have found anything but bones.
The rats must be slacking if there was anything left on those bones after a fortnight.
If you want to get rid of a body feed it to pigs
You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead.
Donerkebab to a drunk German?
Rats play fortnight?
I wouldn’t expect anyone to smell it after they replaced the manhole cover.
Appropriate
er, even more appropriate after Sloopy’s “blow your load” comment, below
When I was a kid, I saw a rat that had to weigh about 20 pounds at the docks. The guy that worked there said they ride over on banana boats and just eat for the whole three weeks at sea. Fucking scary.
Rodents of Unusual Size? I think they don’t exist.
[an ridiculous R.O.U.S. attacks on cue.]
First!
Slow down, dude. You’re gonna blow your load before the links gets its bra off.
I did slow down. Could have gotten 3-4 more in before UCS but I stopped after 5
Pie = Fist of Etiquette CONFIRMED!
(old joke)
Save it for the glibertarians explained posts
^Tulpa
The Rats have owned the city since at least the 60s or 70s. Humans never regained ownership of the space.
Are you referring to the political class? I thought Sloop was very careful to point out it was the real rodents that were the problems.
No, I’m talking about the real rodents. There were still human enclaves before that time.
Robert Francis: Wannabe dictator
O’Rourke reiterated his plan to use a government-mandated buyback to confiscate privately-owned AR-15s and AK-47s. In so doing, he claimed that each AR-15 and AK-47 in private hands is a “potential instrument of terror.”
CNN’s Anderson Cooper then asked O’Rourke how he plans to get people to hand over their rifles.
O’Rourke responded by explaining that he expects complains with the mandatory buybacks. He said, “I expect my fellow Americans to follow the law. The same way we enforce any provision, any law that we have right now, we don’t go door to door to do anything to enforce the law. I expect Republicans, Democrats, gun owners, non-gun owners alike, to follow the law.”
Cooper then followed up by asking what O’Rourke plans to do if Americans do not comply.
O’Rourke said, “If someone does not turn an AR-15 or an AK-47, one of these weapons of war, or brings it out in public and brandishes it, in an attempt to intimidate…then that weapon will be taken from them. If they persist, there will be other consequences from law enforcement.”
They needed to ask every other person on stage if they agreed with that. The election would have been done as soon as Warren, Sanders and Biden agreed.
Razorfist postulated that Beto is being positioned as the Biden running mate. In the same way that Biden was able to float politically risky ideas like gay marriage during the Obama administration while giving the main guy cover to be as palatable to the mainstream as possible, Beto will play that role for the DC-approved Biden. Beto’s insane fervor on gun confiscation will make Biden (who has a long record of gun control) seem like a moderate, but allow them to tack leftward after election (except, of course, they’ll lose pathetically).
*It could just be a flailing last gasp at press on Beto’s part, of course, but if the DNC was to run two very white guys this time around, from this pool of candidates, that might be the funniest thing even in this amazing timeline.
It amazes me that the dems are so blind to…everything. Try explaining how this is massively authoritarian to a die hard lib and they freakout and call YOU the nazi. Reminds me of all of the cults floating around in the ’70s.
Translated: Don’t blame me, law enforcement does as it’s programmed. The responsibility stops with them.
What a pussy. Talks big talk about gun seizures, doesn’t have the guts to say, “Taken by force with all the violence that entails”
I know. At least threaten the use of nukes like Swalwell.
.Ironically, should that happen it won’t won’t be those ‘weapons of war’ used because those aren’t what he thinks they are.
The British expected Americans to follow the law. The crazy prohibitionists expected Americans to follow the law. I expect Irish Bobby to be just as disappointed in us.
There is a picture of Demi Rose in the sidebar of the daily fail. I wonder if someone will be inclined to post it.
Also “Judge Sabrina Bell, picutred, extended a middle finger” good news needs no spell check it seems
I’m half-tempted to start shitposting pics of the older, yet still far superior looking woman that is Eva Green.
Saucer of milk, table for two, meow.
“The Dreamers” was ahem, relevatory. My bunk, in it.
^
She does look like one of the boys.
Women man, always starting shit
Right?
Instead of Demi here is a random Russian Instagram
https://www.instagram.com/nataliegolba/?hl=en
Natalie Golba isn’t raising ad revenue for The Daily Mail but she should be.
Q would definitely motorboat those
I’ve never been to Russia, but if Instagram has taught me anything, every single woman there looks pretty similar to her.
Not true.
When they hit thirty or so they turn into Babushkas.
Pretty girl, horrible fake boobs.
“Picutred” – adj. A combination of “pictured” and “putred”.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday she will not stage a vote on the House floor to officially launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
So your subpoenas will continue to have zero weight.
Yeah, I don’t see this as anything other than an admission that they’re not serious.
“Impeachment” is over, folks.
“We got nothing” /dems
“Most corrupt president ever!”
/also the Dems
We’ll see. I’ve never understood executive privilege, or why any branch is able to just make up rules regarding it’s interaction with other branches.
I believe it stems from the fact that constitutionally, the three branches are co-equal. So theoretically, the legislature can’t just order the executive to do something anymore than the executive can just order the legislature to do something.
But isn’t the whole point of the executive to do what congress says?
To execute laws faithfully…not do what ever it says. Especially when it is just the Speaker of the House saying so or even a committee.
But isn’t the whole point of the executive to do what congress says?
If two-thirds of both houses say so, yes. Otherwise, it’s debatable.
No:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Section 2
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.
Section 3
He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.
in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper
Hey Mitch, if you vote to adjourn….
This has not been about getting orange man for any real or made up crime, but about trying to energize the lunatics that form the democrat base for the 2020 election. The democrats can’t talk about the economy because despite all their efforts to undermine it, that has been ridding high. They can’t talk about any of the other shit they usually do either, because this guy is not one of them and people know that too. So, all they are left with is these circuses and the offer of “free shit” (bread) to appease their masses.
It seems to be working. By having these bizarre closed door hearings in which Republicans are not allowed call witnesses and the press is barred, the Democrats can basically make shit up and have their media wing report the shit as news.
Actual impeachment would be mean hearings in public, witnesses for both sides, messy cross-examinations, corruption exposed… who wants any of that?
I don’t know…. Of course i’m insulated as this is the only place (and podcasts) that i hear about news, and i just haven’t heard anything more since last week. The republicans came out strong that Schiff is just making shit up and selectivly releasing info to make it look bad, and i had even forgoten about the whole thing. Seems like it might be petering out.
‘The House action “fully exposes the shocking hypocrisy of some in the U.S. on human rights and democracy and their malicious intention to undermine Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability to contain China’s development,” Geng said.’
He’s not wrong, but I don’t think we agree on who that is in the U.S. or how.
And it’s nice to see that projection isn’t just a Western thing.
Because his club team is Toronto. I seriously believe that is the only reason he was present.
But he plays every match. And they try to run the counter through him almost every time. And he always fucks it up.
His dad ruined the MNT for a generation and he’s carrying on the legacy.
I was too lazy to look it up, but I swear he wasn’t at the last few.
This clip sums him up:
You need the sound on, because it cuts off his fuck-up.
@Tonio I got very busy yesterday so I missed your intro to glibs. Very well done, and hopefully eases in some lurkers to come out of the shadows.
Lurkers?
*looks around suspiciously*
Originally read that as “Tonio got very busy yesterday so I missed…” Oh Leon, no one judges here…
Oh, we judge a lot. What we tend not to do is condemn.
go right to stoning as is proper
Always with the weed.
*throws hands up and wanders off*
I liked his suggestion…oh, nevermind.
I like to think of it more as evaluation.
Slowly raises head above wall
Shiftily looks back and forth
Slowly lowers head below wall
Fuck off Tulpa!
Now offer up some weed and/or ass sex. That gets them over the wall.
Fuck off, Tulpa!
Then introduce yourself!
This is a trick. Sure, ask the “woman” to have you introduce yourself.
Can I just say real quick, thanks to Ozymandias for the excellent article last night on military ‘justice’. Very compelling and also well-written. (with 4 typos)
I can’t believe he submitted an article with typos, what a jerk.
…What? Stop looking at me like that…
Seconded. I just got to it this morning.
+ 1. Have been enjoying this series.
Thank you all for that.
And dammit, I hate typos. I don’t know what it is – I really, REALLY try to proofread my stuff, but they always manage to slip in and it drives me insane.
Typos give the piece character bro….
My father is a retired judge. I had a good idea how that last article was going to end from about the first third.
Sensei, I laughed when I read that, but I’m not sure if it’s funny or depressing.
And let me say this publicly, I really liked that judge: personally and professionally. A good man, but, well… he got it wrong.
I think he got it wrong because he simply could *not* get his head around the idea that the DoD or high govt officials would just do illegal shit.
I think a LOT of people have that same idea, “Well, they couldn’t *possibly* be openly flouting a federal law…” and that mindset/paradigm just overrules ALL evidence to the contrary.
“Denial is not just a river in Egypt” kinda thing.
So much that. It wasn’t until I was a young adult that I realized what a bubble most of the judiciary lives in.
A Very Big Dog Named Floyd Had To Be Rescued On A Hike And The Photos Are Heartwarming
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/briannasacks/thank-god-floyd-the-big-dog-was-rescued
Not only you Americans are out of shape, so are your dogs. I blame diet.
Stop that. He’s a good boy.
They almost all are.
The link at the bottom is a similar story about a Great Pyrenees. One marriage prior a friend of mine and his wife lived in the wife’s parent’s house in a large basement apartment type of thing. The parents, nice whackadoos, owned a bunch of animals of all sorts, including two Great Pyrenees. He took one to Pet Smart thinking that it would be fun for the dog to get out and walk around, maybe see a few other dogs, that sort of thing. Midway down one aisle the dog just gave up. He just laid down and refused to budge. So my friend had to pick up this great big fuzzball of a dog and carry him like a baby back to the car.
Pyrs are like that
Awesome dogs but stubborn as hell
Allegedly he just got freaked out by all the lights and just too much new stuff and decided he was done.
He would walk a few feet and then sit down and his paws were hurt and cut up.”
I blame the stupid owner.
Poor puppy.
I had a puppy get blisters on its paws after a long hike, and it’s very sad.
It sucks, but the pups are essentially barefoot. Just like humans, if they build up tough soles they will be fine, but to go from grass and carpet to a rough trail, especially for a 190 pound dog, is not good.
We use this stuff.
And boots when the trails here get really icy and shitty.
Made from a blend of several food-grade waxes and oils with Vitamin E -Non-Toxic, Non GMO, Gluten-Free
Really? Non gmo non gluten free paw wax?
It’s sad, really. I’d have thought they’d find a way to get gluten into beeswax by now.
My stupid brother nearly killed my dog taking it on a long walk to the beer store in the heat of summer. Wet towels and fans saved her but she walked pretty gingerly for a few days after that. Fucking Lebron!
About 8 years ago we had a super warm fall and there were several stories about hunting dogs dying from the heat. I had to drag my mutt out of the field once that year because he was laboring. Didn’t want to stop hunting though (and there were lots of birds that year) and sulked for the rest of the day.
She was a Choco-Lab/Chesapeake cross. A real people pleaser but basically a house dog. I don’t know what the fuck he was thinking except “More beer! Walk the dog!” Best pup I ever had.
When I said I had to drag my dog out of the field, I didn’t mean I had to drag him out because he collapsed. I meant he wanted to keep hunting even though he was struggling with the heat and exhaustion and did not want to go back to the truck.
Wanted to be clear that I am not a puppy beater.
Whatever you say, Mittens.
You are just a pud pounder…..
We’re just preparing for Chaffed to bring back GlibFit.
Can confirm. My brother’s dog looked skinny to me, but he said the vet told him Americans are not used to seeing normal-sized dogs.
“What the fucking fuck?!?!?!?! That’s it, no spoilers.”
That’s one of the most heart breaking stories I’ve read in a while. And I read Ozy’s last night.
Yeah, I shouldn’t have clicked on that, now I’m just pissed.
Ozy’s?
^^^
I’m starting to feel like every time I post those articles that I’m abusing your souls. Fits right into the current zeitgeist, I guess, that “WORDS ARE VIOLENCE!!1!1!!”

Democrats pile on and attack Warren. My favorite part is the clip of Tulsi starting and the moderator cuts her off to go to commercial.
Well now you know who is ahead.
Tulsi is a bit too smokin’ to be on the same stage as the rest of those wrinkly meatbags.
Good morning, Sloopy and all of you liberty-junkies!
Damn, I just got done reading Ozy’s latest installment and it’s really hard not to hate everyone and everything.
But I’m gonna give it a shot.
*reads links*
Disregard. The world is too stupid to continue. Didn’t a read something about a meteor…
Y’all were right, they do suck.
They played a great first and a decent third, but gave up 4 in a very short span of the 2nd. What pisses me off most is that they are gonna chase another coach. Newsflash: it’s not the goddamn coach that’s the problem.
Great song choice today. I thought the Crowes honored Otis with that effort.
Make it a great day, people. Since it’s my Friday today, it may be slightly easier for me.
I really dig “The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion”.
Why do you even care about the Wild? Don’t you want to get a good seat on the Vikes bandwagon? I mean, Cousins has got it all figured out now and we are Super Bowl bound!
*thinks back on lifetime of Vikings football*
Nah, I’m good.
Norm Green stole whatever success there was to be in Minnesota professional sports and took it to Dallas.
Damn, I just got done reading Ozy’s latest installment and it’s really hard not to hate everyone and everything.
Don’t be hating Ozy.
20-year-old arrested for ‘McLovin’ fake ID
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/20-year-old-arrested-for-mclovin-fake-id
20 years old and can’t buy a beverage. That is wrong on so many levels. He can drive, vote, join the military, marry, Father children but he can’t buy a beer.
They can’t buy “tobacco products” in Ohio anymore either. Tobacco Products in quotes because it includes e-cigs.
Or Virginia. VIRGINIA, of all places.
Now THAT’S weird. Can’t you smoke in bars still in Virginia? Or has it, too, become Communist Russia?
One of the bars in the Cleveland area (Beachland Ballroom and Tavern) that’s known for punk/indie/bizarre music acts and shows (last time I was there) posted non-standard signs about the smoking ban. They’ve got a great Big Brother feel, and implore people witnessing smoking inside to contact the Anti-Fun League (with the state’s Toll Free number there).
Nope, can’t smoke anywhere around here anymore. VA’s gone full proggy for a while now.
But the Earth did not spin around the Sun the required number of cycles for fermented or distilled beverages to be consumed.
It’s disgraceful.
How did the cop find the fake ID? Did that dumbass consent to a search?
Jesus, we need to start teaching civics again in high school. And part of that is teaching people to never consent to a search without a warrant.
Also, the young man should have been carrying around his Selective Service registration and just said “let’s see, is this my ID? No, it’s just the thing I have to register for so the government can conscript me at their leisure and send me to war. But it doesn’t let me drink something that’s legal to other adults. I’ll keep looking for my license.”
“How did the cop find the fake ID? Did that dumbass consent to a search?
Jesus, we need to start teaching civics again in high school.”
I think it is by design that we don’t don’t teach that anymore….
“Whattaya mean, I don’t look 38? Its ’cause I work out”
Chairman Lebron T-shirt for sale.
That’s pretty good.
Uffda. Proof that Minnesoda women are better looking than the uggos at other universities. 1 in 4 women at The U of M have been sexually assaulted. LGBT folks hardest hit.
“About one in four undergraduate women at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities said they were sexually assaulted”
“The 25.6 percent of undergraduate women at UM who reported experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact”
Headline: “One-quarter of undergrad women at UM reported sexual violence on campus”
And combine that with the two quotes you added and you have to wonder why no one trusts the media. I mean, clearly rape gangs are running rampant in Minnesoda.
I am not really glad I might be moving there in the future… That’s my kind of entertainment…
75% of UM women graduated with no non consensual sexual contact. Uglies hardest hit but undeterred.
how is nonconsensual sexual contact defined?
“Was even one drop of alcohol consumed?” – consent not possible.
“Was consent nonverbal?” – doesn’t count.
“Shit I did that I regretted the next day”
Basically this Pie. A woman, for whatever reason, changes her mind about whatever happened, and now it is abuse.
This combined with UCS’s response probably constitute a significant portion of that data. Bad shit happens, for sure, but I’ll put it like this: how many public schools are the targets of mass shootings? Now cook that number down to the percentage of public school students who attend a school where a mass shooting happened in the past five years, say. There’s a burgeoning industry in things like bullet-proof backpacks and shit like that, and a lot of schools have metal detectors at the entrance.
Put another way, there are about 30,000 students living on-campus at the University of Maryland, College Park. Let’s assume that number stays steady. If 7,500 students a year were sexually assaulted the local police force would be the largest employer in the city, they’d install stadium lighting over the entire campus, ban doors, and install surveillance cameras in every single room.
There would be no market for bullet proof backpacks and the like if the media actually publicized the relevant metrics around school shootings the primary one being that the mean time between shootings at a given school is on the order of 1 shooting even every 20,000 years.
Dude, periodically I have very minor panic attacks at the thought of my daughter riding in the car with someone else and dying in a car accident. When she was a baby I’d position her play pen such that it was well away from ceiling fans and the TV we have mounted above our mantle just in case one of them might fall on her. I freak out when she gets within 10 yards of asphalt because I’m worried she’ll be hit by a car. And even I don’t worry about her being shot in a public place.
Also there is a bit of a jump between sexual contact – which can be very subjective, and sexual assault.
Doesn’t stop the people compiling these statistic from ignoring it.
A dork talked to me while I was trying to get the attention of a good-looking guy.
Twenty years ago behavior that would’ve been filed under “getting handsy” or “ungentlemanly behavior” is now being categorized the same as being physically forced to perform a sexual act against your will.

Sorry to hear about your Mom, Pope. Hope things are better for you going forward.
Thanks Festus. The family is doing well. We have gotten most of the memorial planning and other stuff done so the stress level is pretty low now. I think the prevailing emotion in the family is relief. It was driving my dad nuts watching his wife of 53 years wither away.
Pope, one of the worst things I went through was my dad wither away and in the span of a year go from a guy that did everything for himself to becoming an infant with no clue what was going on. I admit that when he finally passed it was a relief that he got to end that slide into oblivion. It’s also why I am certain I would rather eat a bullet than go through that same thing myself.
That and nursing home drama are the things I fear the most. Heart attack/stroke would be the preferred method.
Shot by jealous husband who came home early is my plan…

The weird thing is Amy’s the (sort-of) reasonable one in that argument.
I still can’t decide if she is reasonable or seems reasonable because she’s such a mediocre hack she can’t come up with crazy progressive ideas on her own.
The latter, I think. She is a typical Establishment Dem. Tell the people what they want to hear. I think she is baffled by the batshit crazy happening in her party.
I think so too. She is another Minnesoda pol who would be working in a convenience store if it wasn’t for their famous fathers (cough – Dayton – cough).
She does look like a cashier come to think of it.
She’s definitely surly enough to be one.
Pet peeve:
Me: “Hi, how are you today?”
Surly cashier (with no eye contact, of course): “Tired.”
The fuck? You work retail, idiot! I’d fucking fire someone who responded to a customer that. And they wonder why they are being replaced by machines…
I’d yell at you* for firing the one honest cashier.
I hate fake smiles and forced congeniality.
*or at least think really hard about what I’d want to yell at you
You ever work in retail?
I don’t want honesty, I want a good experience for my customers.
Why I’m not in customer service.
I’m telling you, as a customer, the phoney cogeniality is NOT a good experience.
Hah. The local Kroger at which I shop has a bagger who never shuts up. Comments on every item purchased, including “Oh, I’d never buy that/eat that” or “oh, I love this” or “oh I don’t like those” or “I can’t stand that, how can anybody eat those?” all intermixed with fast paced attempts to engage the cashier in store gossip.
Cringeworthy would be an understatement.
It’s an art.
People who are good can read the customer and react accordingly. Which is why they don’t stay at a low level very long.
I know it’s fashionable here to see who can be the biggest crank/introvert, but if you are out competing for business, good customer service will never, ever go away.
Shirley, same here. Hate the low chat item commentary. It aggravates more when the cashier and bag boy talk about the items as if I’m not there. HELLO, ever think I don’t want the person behind me knowing I’m buying Guatemalan Kurds for my salad?
Yep, there is right balance to strike. Around here, the delis and grocery stores nail it. Chick-fil-a nails it.
BK and McD’s do not.
Social skills are one of those things that benefit everyone. They aren’t required for some things but, in general, the better you are at reading and interacting with people the more successful you will be even if your job doesn’t require social interaction.
“HELLO, ever think I don’t want the person behind me knowing I’m buying Guatemalan Kurds for my salad?”
What do you know that I don’t muppet? I thought the Kurds were mostly in parts of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. Never knew they were also in Guatemala. And why are you buying them? Your orphans not cutting it anymore?
I think she comes across as a circa-2008 Dem might have, on various positions too. Still destructive, but not in the “burn it all down, salt the earth, and start over” way of the 2020 models.

Dutch police found a family of seven people hidden in the basement of a remote farmhouse where they had reportedly spent years “waiting for the end of time”, officials said Tuesday.
They discovered a man, believed to be the father of the family, and six of his children aged between 18 and 25 near the village of Ruinerwold in the northern province of Drenthe.
Police arrested a 58-year-old man at the scene but he was not the father.

I *hate* that Tulsi calls abortion one of the “most difficult decisions” women have to make. It’s often…just not. Take that 90s safe/legal/rare bullshit out the door. #DemDebate
10:23 PM · Oct 15, 2019
So it’s easier to get an abortion than buy a gun? Are there women who had more abortions than hot meals? etc…
Why not? The Dems have already ditched the rest of their 90s platform.
The Dems are in a galaxy far, far away.
TBF, the Republicans have been taking their 90s platform, so they had to #MoveOn
Well the Cons are rather feckless.
They’re just driving that speed limit.

We should reduce the need for abortions by investing in prevention
Nuclear Winter can prevent reproduction, and it would clear up space so people aren’t as worried about having children.
Yes. PP is doing everything they can to make abortion a political wedge issue in 2020. There can be no waffling on the subject matter,. Abortions are good, abortions are healthy, abortions must be as easy as getting Advil, and there must not ever ever ever be anyone moral reservations or guilt about abortion EVER.
I’m done with fucking Ottavino until next season. He was terrible in the Twins series, and he’s been terrible in this one too. He had a terrific season but he just isn’t the same guy right now.
Yanks had every chance to put runs on the board last night and simply didn’t. Despite the shutout innings, Cole was far from dominant. And I thought Didi had the three run homer, but that ball just didn’t carry.
Bah. Onward and upward.
I winced when Hinch took Cole out. I’m so old school that when I see a pitcher cruising I think he should be left alone.
But it worked out….there.
Why is Boone batting Gardiner third??
And rumor is MLB changed the ball for the playoffs
The weather is change enough.
I missed three greens yesterday before I broke down and started hitting longer irons.
“I missed three greens yesterday before I broke down and started hitting longer irons.”
White ebonics.
Do not listen to those rumors. They are all started by apologists for the Twinkies going into the fetal position during the playoffs.
Ottavino sucked all year. A relief pitcher with a 5,4 BB/9 is garbage and should have never been on the playoff roster.
“As they dug a small grave for their child, their spade struck something hard. It was a clay pot and, from inside, they could hear an infant crying. That, local police say, is when the villagers discovered a newborn, buried alive.”
Soon to be accepted abandoned or a form of abortion behaviour by Democrats.
“…India suffers from a significant gender imbalance in its population owing to a societal preference for sons, according to a government economic survey spanning 2017-2018. Abortions to terminate female fetuses are prevalent, according to the report, and even when such sex-selection tactics are not undertaken families will often continue trying to have children until they have a son, resulting in millions of “unwanted” girls.”
I’m thankful to to live in a civilization that doesn’t have this problem. Imagine being of a mindset such that you give birth and discard a human miracle because of gender?
Sounds like something a progressive would do or tolerate as part of population control.
The girls can identify as boys. easy peezy.
I’m thankful to to live in a civilization that doesn’t have this problem.
The two largest nations on earth, India and China, both have large sex imbalances because of this mindset. Too many males and not enough females. They are either going to have to go gay or go to war to fix the problem. Or maybe Japan will invent a good sexbot and that will sort things out.

I though violence and racism were introduced in 2016?
Nono it existed since at least 1619.

But even before 1619 It is probably from when the white gene first spread, a little before 4359 BC probably
Here’s a link proving that we only intervened in Syria in 2014 and it was just to help the Kurds. Our interventions only result in sunshine and lollipops and now Nazis are reinventing history by pretending like we have been involved in regime change in Syria since 2011. Fuck you, Nazis! Muh…Kurds!

You know it is possible to be against undeclared war but also oppose morally bankrupt decisions we make while in those wars?
Like convincing “muh Kurds” to withdraw from their defensive positions because our trusted allies the Turks wouldn’t invade the buffer zone we brokered…whoops?
I’ll believe this is some sort of anti war maneuver when we aren’t just shuffling our boys around from one sandbox to another.
Yeah, I too have heard Lindsey Graham speak.
“I’ll believe this is some sort of anti war maneuver when we aren’t just shuffling our boys around from one sandbox to another.”
I’ve heard that new talking point. Yeah, taking soldiers out of a combat zone and moving them to a base is not ending a war if you work your way backwards and just wish it to be so.
Fair warning, don’t look into where we moved troops from Iraq when we began a draw down.
TGA you are starting to get more than a little unhinged and hostile about this. Take a breath and remember that people have no moral obligation to agree with you, and are not attacking you when they don’t.
I didn’t mean to be unhinged and hostile. The unhinged part comes naturally
Or don’t, I am not the arbiter of anything here, just putting out my two cents.
Yeah not sure how pulling away from the Kurds and ramping them up in Saudi Arabia of all places is going to reduce our chances of conflict down the line.
We’re like battered woman leaving their halfway decent new boyfriend for their old abuser. In the middle of the night after telling him to split rent on the pricey new apt we told him was worth it. While we really just need to single for a while, this was a shitty way to go about it.
So, it’s just as bad to have troops at our base in Saudi Arabia as it is to be funding ISIS?
Is this “morally bankrupt” or should be continue to pretend as if this war began in 2014?
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jun/03/us-isis-syria-iraq
yeah but I’m not talking about Isis, I’m talking about the Kurds. About as opposite as you can get while still being Muslim.
Moving 50 troops from crappy Kurdish bases, and then adding 5,000 to nicer bases in Saudi Arabia (while they are fighting Yemen) does not compute as anti-war.
“yeah but I’m not talking about Isis, I’m talking about the Kurds. About as opposite as you can get while still being Muslim.”
Ummmm…who exactly do you think the Kurds were fighting? They were not fighting Assad. We and our allies ISIS were fighting Assad.
“Moving 50 troops from crappy Kurdish bases, and then adding 5,000 to nicer bases in Saudi Arabia (while they are fighting Yemen) does not compute as anti-war.”
Yes they are fighting Yemen from the base.
Do you want to take a guess at where our troops went when we started to draw them down from Iraq when neocons were screaming “Muh…the Kurds” then too?
I’m just wondering what will be the rallying cry to oppose a withdrawal from Afghanistan?
When Trump announced a draw down in December 2018 the military ignored him and the corporate press said “Muh…the womenz”. Are there Kurds there too where we can hear the ever useful “Muh…the Kurds” again?
Agree to disagree.

“If you pay close attention to the arguments made by the Washington war party, you’ll notice they hardly ever attempt to justify their policies with stories of past successes. Instead, they simply claim how bad things would be if we didn’t listen to their wisdom and that if only they had been allowed to do a little bit more, everything would have turned out great. In this case, the Lindsey Grahams of the world are incapable of providing any real justification for why the U.S. military needs to be fighting in northern Syria, so instead they fear monger and promise that anything bad that happens after we leave will be America’s fault for having left, and therefore we must stay forever.”

Other than the part where he’s asking the most powerful organization in the world to force people to not make him pay rent.
ok, outright “political” violence
That’d do nothing but put a lot of landlords in the poorhouse.
Oh, no, it would also reduce the amount of decent low-cost housing on the market, cause the existing low-cost untis to fall into disrepair, and discourage new construction.

I mean remember when Iraq’s troops were taking babies out of incubators when they invaded Kuwait? That was totes real, too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkRylMGLPMU
I thought they were putting them in clothes dryers.
I met several of the Special Republican Guard in person. They were murderous sociopaths who got the hangings they deserved.
“Taking babes out of incubators” is silly. The first-hand stories of murder, torture, rape, and theft were too numerous to disregard and pretty obvious (the traffic-jam of looted vehicles and property caused the “Highway of Death”). You can debate whether us dealing with them militarily (then handing them over to the Kuwaitis to hang) was in our national interest.
Whether or not they are murderers is not the question. The question is “did the corporate press deliberately lie to you in order to garner public opinion in support of war?”
And the answer is always, always: YES
Funny – Being actually in that war before ubiquitous cell-phones and news media, I had no idea how it was being sold or reported. We were truly out of touch until we got home. Then saw the reruns on CNN which looked nothing like the real thing.

Tulsi really needs to work on her delivery. that slow pace and monotone makes everything she says sound scripted (which it is). it’s easier to listen to than the censorious scolds sharing the stage with her but it would help her appeal to polish that delivery.
Bitter, vindictive harpy? ME?
Now a leader in many polls, Warren suggested that candidates who don’t support a wealth tax are prioritizing protecting billionaires — a comment that drew criticism from others on stage.
Warren said that her wealth-tax plan would raise enough revenue to finance a number of social causes, including universal child care for children up to 5 years, universal pre-K, raising wages for child care workers and teachers, and tuition-free college.
“My question is not why do Bernie and I support a wealth tax, it’s why is it does everyone else on this stage think it is more important to protect billionaires than it is to invest in an entire generation of Americans,” she said.
——-
Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) said that he thinks a wealth tax is “part of a solution” for income inequality but that policymakers also need to lift people up.
“Sometimes I think that Sen. Warren is more focused on being punitive or pitting some part of the country against the other,” he said.
Warren replied, “I’m really shocked at the notion that anyone thinks I’m punitive.”
She added that she doesn’t “have a beef with billionaires” but that the wealthy should pay more in taxes so that others have a chance at success.
“I don’t have a punitive bone in my body. And when I’m President, I’ll make you regret saying that.”
Does it say more about me or Lizzy that it took me a second to figure out that the final quote there was yours and not hers?
Warren is a LeBron James.
I hope she wins. We can pay our taxes in beads.
I made the mistake of listening to part of the debate. And Warren. Someone needs to tell her that talking faster amps the shrill harpy personality. This isn’t one of her law school classes where she needs to deliver 3 hours of material in 50 minutes.
I have it on good authority that at least one representative of the kind of people who would vote for these assholes thinks that Warren comes off as too shrill and kind of annoying. Nagging, even hen-pecking, if you will. And this is from a person who at least half-seriously accused me of not liking AOC or Hillary because I don’t want to see women in power.
“Warren said that her wealth-tax plan would raise enough revenue to finance a number of social causes, including universal child care for children up to 5 years, universal pre-K, raising wages for child care workers and teachers, and tuition-free college.”
Yeah, because after the evil rich close up shop on all their businesses, I mean who cares, who needs a job when they got free child care, the irony, it burns.
Well, when the jobs dry up, it will free up a lot of people to look after their own kids, thus saving money on the free childcare program.
Victory!
Because we should be buying even more shiny stuff despite the fact that we are $20T (or whatever it is) in the hole.
“She added that she doesn’t “have a beef with billionaires” but that the wealthy should pay more in taxes so that others have a chance at success.”
Yeah, because squeezing just a few more dollars out of those who already pay the most taxes and dividing it up between me and my cronies, equates to other’s getting a chance at success. And when it doesn’t, we’ll just go after the middle class.
TFW they guy calling for Churches to be Taxed if they don’t belive the progressive line, is calling your tax plan punitive…
Because a tax on churches is not meant to raise revenues (most churches can barely sustain themselves as it is). It’s meant to punish those who commit the crime of blasphemy.
My first libertarian moment was in grade school. Teacher was explaining that churches weren’t taxed “because the power to tax was the power to destroy.”
So why are they allowed to tax at all, wondered small me.
You know who else had a solution?
Ozzy Osbourne?
Antoine Lavoisier?
Sherlock Holmes?
My chemistry teacher?
Has anyone bothered to point out to her that a “wealth tax” is unconstitutional…?
Sure it’s consitutional, if they can figure out how to apportion it by population among the states.
And figure out how to convince nine people in robes that “wealth” is “income”.
No. The apportionment is to get it in under the pre-sixteenth direct taxes clause that is still in effect for non-income based direct taxes on property.
All wealth is derived from income somewhere, so [insert legal angle bargle] means that its constitutional.
Discriminatory taxation sounds punitive to me.
Hey, once five percent or so of our publicly traded companies are liquidated, once every private business is audited and liquidated to come up with the right percentage – and the ensuing chaos, capital flight, and cratering of all pensions and retirement vehicles happens – then we will have true opportunity.
All Warren wants to do is jump from the top rope with a fire axe and kill the US economy. It’s for the universal pre-K, you see. If you don’t like it, you must hate children.
Morning Malice (TW: The Federalist)

“How Marianne Williamson Was Force-Fed The Red Pill”
FTA:
“Given the overwhelmingly hard-left agenda within corporate media, red-pilling far more frequently occurs on the right hand of the political spectrum. Yet there are plenty of red-pilled leftists as well, voices like Glenn Greenwald and Michael Tracey, who have no problem slamming outlets like The New York Times for what can charitably be described as malfeasance.
A rare and special joy is watching a left-winger get red-pilled in real-time, in public, right before all our eyes. This seems to be the case with quixotic Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson.”
AND
“Williamson’s reaction was to this and other such moments of alleged wit was caught on a hot-mic moment: “What does it say that Fox News is nicer to me than the lefties are?” she mused. “What does it say that the conservatives are nicer to me?…You know, I’m such a lefty. I mean, I’m a serious lefty…I didn’t think the left was as mean as the right, they are.”
Early last week, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard dropped what was essentially a red pill on the Democratic field, explicitly saying, “The 2016 Democratic primary election was rigged by the DNC and their partners in the corporate media against Bernie Sanders.” Not biased, but rigged. Not “Fox News,” but “corporate media.” Gabbard claimed to be considering boycotting the debate.
Williamson—who did not meet the debate criteria—agreed with Gabbard’s assessment. “I have great respect for Tulsi for saying such inconvenient truth,” Williamson tweeted. “She is absolutely correct.”
When your most serious candidate is an aging new age flower child.
To her credit, as flaky as she is:
“During the debates Williamson failed to mention that she founded Project Angel Food 30 years ago. It’s an organization dedicated to feeding, free of charge, people living with AIDS when it was a far more serious and stigmatized condition than it is today. Her reward for this has been animus and vitriol from those who should ostensibly on her side.”
There’s a reason she never had a chance. Today’s leftward dems are an angry hoard foaming at the mouth, who want nothing but to punish their enemies. And they need that leader who will go after those deplorables who are the cause of all of their many, many woes. Williamson is not that person, she’s more like a relic from the 60s, a flower child, not a strong man who will punish the enemies. This is why Warren is not the front runner, they may not like her, but they do sense some jackboot in her and believe she will be ruthless in punishing those kulaks and wreckers.
“Project Angel Food”
Let them eat cake!
the corporate media
Tulsi listens to Michael Malice. Confirmed.
She strikes me as a little bit of a crank but a person with good intentions who genuinely wants to do good things. I disagree with her ideas but I think she’s coming from a good place. Warren and Sanders, and most of the Dems in the headlines for that matter, are more concerned with acquiring power by gratifying the worst impulses of the electorate. They’re running on envy, bitterness, and spite.
acquiring power by gratifying the worst impulses of the electorate. They’re running on envy, bitterness, and spite
absolutely correct
that’s how everyone gets elected
That old saw about the people best qualified for politics are the people who don’t want to be in it is damned true. We should ban the military draft and replace it with a legislative one. Like jury duty, only every few years you’ve got to be in Congress for a session.
luckily for me, I’ve got bone spurs
World’s oldest two-year-old
Addressing the issue, Sanders, who has been outspoken about inequality, reiterated his demand that the wealthiest in America start paying their fair share in taxes.
“If you are asking me, do I think we should demand that the wealthiest, top one-tenth of 1 percent start paying their fair share of taxes, so we can create a nation and a government that works for all of us — yes, that’s exactly what I believe,” Sanders said.
“Those kids over there have more toys than I do. Not FAIR! Gimme!”
It’s so weird that these people think you can keep stealing the same car from the same house over and over again without the owner packing up and moving.
How does the owner keep getting the same car back?
He keeps extras in the shed. It’s like how DJ Khaled buys four of every kind of Jordan so that he doesn’t put excessive wear on one pair.
His plan literally has half the country working for the government.
a nation and a government that works for all of us
Define “works”. I bet constitutional limitations on the government are not a factor for you.
If one of them came out and said “We need to raise taxes to pay down the debt and we can’t afford anything else.” I might take them more seriously than I do the average street corner preacher.
“Pelosi opts to continue the kangaroo court rather than open a legitimate impeachment inquiry. Because nothing says fair and impartial like preventing the other side from calling witnesses or having access to the alleged witnesses.”
Of course, as someone commented last night in a thread, this is the dems entire plan, play impeachment with the media and hollywood tagging along. They don’t plan on winning elections, that’s for sure. Looks like Princess Liawatha has already scalped Chief Corn Pop. Next, Liawatha tags Hillary for VP and then Liawatha falls on her own tomahawk in an unfortunate suicide attempt.
I’m starting to think Hillary would actually be preferable (as in less horrible) to this bunch.
Which might’ve been her plan all along. Let the rest show how awful they are and then enter the race in late 2019/early 2020.
Are they past the deadlines to be on the ballot? I think she needs a brokered convention without a frontrunner to swoop in.
I think she would love to, but her party just won’t allow it.
So it’s actually Hillary who’s playing 8th dimension chess!
Yeah, maybe we can have the pleasure of once again watching her being hauled into the back of a van, one shoe off, by 5 gays clad in black. This time with more mumu and mostest cankles.
?
Forgive Hyp, it was a queer sight to see a candidate whisked off like that.
Gays in black – actual footage – https://youtu.be/KNoL2rLApn8
Right? In my head the imagery became some weird Queer Eye special where they kidnap candidates and life coach them.
Dammit, because of this I keep hearing that Will Smith song – “Here come the gays in black….”
The Squad is attaching themselves to a candidate they know has no chance to win, which shouldn’t be surprising.
$20 says if you gave them a truth serum that they’d say they’re rooting for Trump’s re-election, because they know without him they don’t get 1/10th of the attention they get now.
He’s not as far off as you think, believe it or not.
Someone on Fox noted that the only Jewish candidate got endorsed by 3 antisemites.
How strange.
@Mojeaux… A while back I got it in my head during a religious post of yours that you were interested in looking at the bible from a literary analysis perspective and I meant to suggest a couple of good books that do just that. My memory could be wrong about this, but here they are. They’re somewhat companions to each other, both authored by Jack Miles.

The first is re the new testament; the latter the old.
I’m glad I forgot the debate was on and missed it.
Hulu sent me a reminder and let me know that I could watch it live.
It may be the time of year for horror movies and shows, but I’m not subjected myself to that hell on purpose.
Anyone that watched that is a masochist. Why would you want to subject yourself to that IQ lowering shit? I can give you a quick synopsis without even bothering to watch: “FREE SHIT IF YOU VOTE FOR ME”, “We will take your gunz cause you are evil”, and “Orange man= bad”…..
I watched Razorfist watch the debate, pretty funny

If this is how China is willing to use its leverage over basketball, e-sports, and flag emojis, imagine what could happen if we let Chinese companies’ equipment into America’s #5G networks.
The love affair is over.
You don’t get glowing praise from Koch outlets by questioning China. And you really don’t get glowing praise if you question Chinese business.
Start an illegal war? You’re good.
Raise taxes? Happens to the best of us.
Impose ridiculous regulations? Well, it depends on the sector.
Bad mouth China? GTFO!
“The love affair is over.”
Oh, I am sure the people that love them some ChiComm totalitarianism still love them some more of that. Their problem is that many now no longer want that.
Little Tommy Friedman has been conspicuously quiet on all of this.
So, Pai supports building more electronic manufacturing facilities onshore?
Good fellow, but a bit beyond your remit at the FCC, I’m afraid.
All of a sudden Mike Rowe and the rest of the people calling for more robust domestic industrial and manufacturing sectors look like they’re ahead of the game, strategically-speaking.
And you called me a mercantilist kook.
Or was that the voices in my head?
I don’t think I did, but if I did I’m retconning it to having agreed with you all along.
Seriously, though, I’ve always been a free trade guy but I’ve also believe that outsourcing too much industry is dangerous because you reach a point where you run short of fungible industrial capacity. Also, I think China is proving that the interdependence in trade really is a two-way street, not just a vector for the spread of democratic ideals.
I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who called me that.
Eh, that cheap labor will just move to other countries with a low value of human life.

Dictators rarely get made. They usually take.
There’s no reason they cannot rise up and use their Kung Fu skills to overthrow him, though. I’ve also been taught by Chinese cinema that their greatest heroes can soar through the air effortlessly.
Indeed. It’s worth noting that Xi Jinping’s signature issue before abolishing his term limit was fighting corruption. He’s undoubtedly got a lot of dirt on government and business leaders, and he’s made enough examples of people, that no one will challenge him.
He ain’t wrong.
For all you Leonardo da Vinci fans in the peanut gallery
In 1502 A.D., Sultan Bayezid II sent out the Renaissance equivalent of a government RFP (request for proposals), seeking a design for a bridge to connect Istanbul with its neighbor city Galata. Leonardo da Vinci, already a well-known artist and inventor, came up with a novel bridge design that he described in a letter to the Sultan and sketched in a small drawing in his notebook.
——-
In Leonardo’s time, most masonry bridge supports were made in the form of conventional semicircular arches, which would have required 10 or more piers along the span to support such a long bridge. Leonardo’s bridge concept was dramatically different — a flattened arch that would be tall enough to allow a sailboat to pass underneath with its mast in place, as illustrated in his sketch, but that would cross the wide span with a single enormous arch.
The bridge would have been about 280 meters long (though Leonardo himself was using a different measurement system, since the metric system was still a few centuries off), making it the longest span in the world at that time, had it been built. “It’s incredibly ambitious,” Bast says. “It was about 10 times longer than typical bridges of that time.”
——-
In his notebooks and letter to the Sultan, Leonardo provided no details about the materials that would be used or the method of construction. Bast and the team analyzed the materials available at the time and concluded that the bridge could only have been made of stone, because wood or brick could not have carried the loads of such a long span. And they concluded that, as in classical masonry bridges such as those built by the Romans, the bridge would stand on its own under the force of gravity, without any fasteners or mortar to hold the stone together.
To prove that, they had to build a model and demonstrate its stability. That required figuring out how to slice up the complex shape into individual blocks that could be assembled into the final structure. While the full-scale bridge would have been made up of thousands of stone blocks, they decided on a design with 126 blocks for their model, which was built at a scale of 1 to 500 (making it about 32 inches long). Then the individual blocks were made on a 3D printer, taking about six hours per block to produce.
Very cool
*and a break from politics
You’d have to first build a bridge to hold up the arch form for the bridge before you could build it. You’d still end up having to build dozens of piers to hold up the arch preform platform, and cut off the channel for however long the construction took.
It might be possible for the scaffolding that holds up the arches to have an opening allowing ships to pass through. Further, the traditional bridge design of the time (multiple small arches) also required scaffolding with all of the same drawbacks, except it could be constructed in discrete sections. I’m not clear on whether or not the single arch design allows ships of a greater height to pass through. What is clear from the photo, however, is the young lady involved in the project is quite comely.
“She can erect my arch any day.”
To prove that, they had to build a model
Not remotely correct for two reasons: 1/we know a design is feasible simply from the materials and shapes (that is fundamentally what engineering is); b/or, if you don’t agree with (1), then nothing short of actually building the full and real thing ever proves anything.
Even a journalism major should have no problem with managing this tiny bit of logic and language; that is to say: a journalo should make this argument before an engineer would think of it.
Well, the journalism person, I can’t say I expected much.
The MIT folks, well, they had a 3D printer and wanted to use it.

That’s what it sounds like, and it sounds like the family of the victim isn’t going to be content with that. Nor should they be.
That’s certainly more than we heard of the story so far though.
Sigh…
OT: ライフル・イズ・ビューティフル – new avatar? I haven’t watch it yet. What are your thoughts?
I liked the first episode. It fulfills my love for “cute girls doing cute things” anime, involving competitive rifle shooting (well, beam rifles, but I think that’s how things are done nowadays anyways). First ep involves main girl reforming the rifle shooting club and then moves into … shooting.
My anime this season are that and Azur Lane. First two eps of Azur Lane were good enough to make me keep watching. Think KanColle, except we’ve (mostly) defeated the alien threat and now we’re back to fighting alongside the same lines as WWII (the Red Axis, or “Iron Blood” and “Sakura Empire” seem to be the antagonists so far). Like KanColle, everything’s based on real WWII ships, except worldwide instead of just Japan.
I watched all of KanColle, but didn’t feel the need for another similar anime. Hopefully this one ends a bit better.
My current pleasant surprise has been “Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious”. I don’t generally care for the iseakai genre, but the spoofs have been awesome. I loved KonoSuba for example.
As a general non-fan of Isekai (only one I’ve watched and semi-enjoyed is Re: Zero), I’ll check it out.
Jefferson, 28, took her handgun from her purse and pointed it “toward the window” before she was shot, the nephew said, according to the arrest-warrant affidavit.
They didn’t knock on the door and/or announce themselves as police officers. Roast this motherfucker.
You’d have to first build a bridge to hold up the arch form for the bridge before you could build it. You’d still end up having to build dozens of piers to hold up the arch preform platform, and cut off the channel for however long the construction took.

And I’m thinking it’s a disaster in the making. Something I’m failing to articulate about the mess.
Nobody said it would be easy.

You’re a few thousand miles away, and I haven’t hacked your webcam, so I can’t say.
I say we just have a dumb trade war with them until their cheap labor becomes less competitive.
It’s reasonable to have divergent opinions on an illegal war for regime change. But, boycotting China or businesses that behave as arms of the Chinese state is not up for discussion. It’s just laughable. Go cry about your reeducation camps and organ harvesting, yokel, we sophisticates have illegal wars to debate.
If only the Chinese were jailing and harvesting the organs of the Kurds.

When I was deployed to Karshi-Khanabad, there were a lot of very pretty young Uzbek women who worked on base. Even though most of them didn’t speak much English, they were very flirtatious and certainly seemed to be fond of American servicemen. This, I’m certain, is why the Uzbek men were generally sullen and seemed to regard us as an unpleasant infestation.

In Japan? Sure.
Our pumpkins are better. No question. I wanna smash one of those. *And our watermelons are better, too.
“Sarmale”? Is that like a poncho, or a stew, or what the hell…

Oh! I’m sorry, here we call those dolmades because there are way, way more Greeks here than Romanians. Also, if you really wanted to, you could carve a pumpkin and then use it to carry dolmas to some sort of Greek Halloween party.

Sarmale cooked by my mum in a pumpkin that grew accidentally in the yard and she did not know what to do with it.

That seems like a fantastic idea. So, the tax thing actually kind of makes sense here because the pumpkins that we grow for decoration are not typically the same as the ones we grow for eating. The decorative ones are bigger and gnarlier. But there’s no reason you couldn’t stuff one full of savory filling, which is giving me an idea…
Heh – my girlfriend and I did that this week, stuffing a pumpkin with meatloaf. I think there’s a Chef John or Alton Brown recipe that calls for slow cooking pork butt in a pumpkin, too.
in Alton Brown’s version, the pumpkin IS the smoker.
That looks tasty
I grew pumpkins (that were used for decoration) this year. Do I need to declare those and add them to my tax forms?
What is with AMericans and pumpkins?
Mostly, it’s a matter that their relative flavorlessness makes them an ideal base for putting “pumpkin spice”, which is pretty much the standard spice mixture used for fall sweets, on.
In the northeastern U.S., it’s tradition to not tax food or what’s regarded as “essentials”, but to tax the shit out of everything else. So this is quite commonplace in all the northeastern states.
What if I do both?
Our federal and state tax codes are so fucked.
“What is with AMericans and pumpkins?”
It’s a tradition. We don’t ask French people “what is with you guys are not smelling pleasant?” or British “what is with you guys and disgusting food?”. We don’t say that, because we know it’s a French tradition to smell like ass, much like it is a British tradition to eat food that is objectively terrible.
Pumpkins were originally native to what is the present day United States and are a winter squash that was typically grown in the fall here. They started to carve them up into Jack-O-Lanterns at Halloween and make pie out of them during thanskgiving feasts, and so they became associated with this time of year.
Well sure, if you want to be correct and accurate and shit.
That was meant to reply to Pie. Whoops.
I figured you got confused. Pie actually has relevant points. I just insult the French.
Have you ever seen the original turnip jack o lanterns from Ireland? They’re fuckin’ creepy.
Whoa.
I had not. That’s cool.

Guys fly too close to the sun all the time, but this old gal suddenly realized she had married the dumbest guy in Abilene (which is quite the trophy). To your point, yes: never bring box springs to a pistol fight.
That video is a textbook case of how to escalate a situation. That will be an interesting case when it finally hits trial. There was a lot of egging on on both sides and tracing a self defense claim through that back and forth may be tough.
Texas doesn’t have a duty to retreat clause, correct?

A device found at a Montana elementary school on Tuesday that authorities initially said was an explosive actually turned out to be a plastic bottle covered in tape, police said.
“This information is good news,” Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. “It’s a blessing that it wasn’t [an explosive].”
The Tuesday-morning announcement of an improvised explosive device detonating on the playground of the Rossiter Elementary School in Helena sent FBI and ATF agents to the scene. Students were evacuated. No one was injured.
Dutton said Tuesday afternoon that authorities determined nothing ever exploded. The device, believed to have come from a construction site, was a plastic bottle wrapped in black tape that was full of washers, nuts and bolts, and a fluid that wasn’t flammable, the sheriff said.
A homeless man, who didn’t have malicious intent, thought he was picking up litter and placed the bottle by the school Monday night or early Tuesday, Dutton said. No charges are expected to be brought against the homeless individual.
See something, PANIC.
The other day in Boca Raton there was a panic over an “active shooter” at a mall that caused one person to be injured badly enough that he ended up in the hospital. The mall was locked down for hours and people were stuck in whatever store they were in while the SWAT team swept the mall for the threat.
It was caused by a balloon popping.

Three girls were reportedly suspended from their high school in Maine for posting a note in the bathroom notifying fellow students that they believed one of their classmates was sexually assaulting others.
The Associated Press reported the three girls were suspended by Cape Elizabeth High School, which said the note constituted bullying.
One of the students, 15-year-old sophomore Aela Mansmann, is taking legal action with the backing of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maine.
——-
Mansmann’s message, displayed in the girl’s restroom on a sticky-note, alerted students that “there’s a rapist in our school and you know who it is.”
She and two other students left similar messages and alleged the school district did not take the accusations of sexual assault seriously enough.
The ACLU’s filing states that Mansmann has taken a “public stance as an ally for victims and survivors of sexual violence.”
She told the AP in an interview that she would continue to be a voice for raising awareness about sexual assault.
“I think anyone that has experienced any sort of sexual violence or harassment is especially vulnerable when they are going through their healing process, and to have an ally who is willing to advocate for that, I think is crucial and beneficial,” Mansmann told the news outlet.
Somebody is jealous of Greta.
What’s ruining a high school kid’s life via spurious accusations if you get to be an “ally”?
“Ally” has become a word that sets my teeth on edge.
Exactly. Why not go with Axis?
This is certainly walking a fine line. There’s no name in the accusation, which no doubt the ACLU will try to hold up as evidence the statement was political rather than defamatory (not that it can’t be both). That one student felt he was the target, however, implies that the students do “know who it is” and thus the lack of a name may not be considered legally defensible.
“there’s a rapist in our school and you know who it is.”
It’s me. But it’s not true.
