So very boring edition: a week when the mails simply did not run
If you had Wisconsin imploding in Urbana (motto: we’re no Carbondale), you could easily be writing a much heartier note than this right now. Similarly, you were just a genius if you had Kansas hanging 48 on the Horns in Austin. Ranked Missouri should have beaten 1-5 Vandy by 16 but lost by seven, but I didn’t see that one coming. That is to say, there wasn’t much greatness going on in the pointy-ball prognostication world; and there was only a little news from our five posers from last week:
Week Eight Most OverRated Football Program Results
1 SMU toasted Temple and climbed two places.
2 Minnesota razed Rutgers, now the best six-loss team in the game, and jumped four ranks!
3 Appalachian State mangled Monroe, rose two spots, and still shouldn’t be ranked at all.
4 Boise State scored a point a minute in the final quarter, still lost by three to toothless BYU, and fell eight spots in the AP. The Broncos were the classic overrated (14th!) case where they don’t play anybody, the AP voters were forced to fill out 25 lines on their card, and someone vaguely remembered back before Obama when they were the badasses of Division 4 or so. There really ought to at least be a fine for this sort of behavior.
5 Oregon had to come back from ten down in the fourth to save themselves from the fish-flingers of Washington. As Glibs discussed elsewhere this week, these are arguably a couple of 18-ish teams that should have finished in a dead heat, but it would have been funnier if the one ranked 25th had held on to edge the one ranked 12th instead of the other way around. At least the Huskies come away with a firm grip on the title of best three-loss team in the nation. Meanwhile the Ducks rose to the 11th spot, and we might soon need to concede that it’s earned . . . but lets wait a few weeks, shall we?
So Boise was our sole toldjasos™ this week. The season has pretty much stomped all the starch out of all the early bad ranking ideas already, and we’re running out of time to prove anything new.
Meanwhile, where are we in our weekly idiocy? Has the AP poll already stepped on every rake possible!? Well, more less, yes: it’s getting very quiet:
Yet Another Week N + 1 Most OverRated Football Programs
1 Minnesota should make soup out of Maryland.
2 Appalachian State will ruin the Jags of South Alabama
3 SMU visits Houston where the entire team is redshirted.
4 Oregon should beat Washington State by 10.
Honorable mentions – We’ve already taken down Clemson and Wake; Wake is maniacally overrated even yet. Notre Dame still shouldn’t be a top ten team, but I’ve been bored of this conversation for decades: it just comes with the territory; I can confidently predict they will be ranked top ten at some point in the 2048 season; they will be top five in the sport a decade after Congress has entirely outlawed its play. Cincinnati might prove out . . . we’ll see. Arizona State fell seven places and is still grossly overranked, but this wasn’t funny earlier in the year when we rang them up the first time, and it still isn’t. We already nailed Memphis, but they’re going to bob about the surface like a ripe corpse until deflating and then sinking back down to their destiny amongst the catfish. Enough! So how many heads do we have on the wall now?
Year to Date Hides on the Wall
1 Georgia lost at home to the second-best team from South Carolina
2 Utah lost to an unrated USC but seems to be coming back
2 Stanford was revealed by USC
2 Syracuse was unranked after Maryland
2 Michigan was blown out by Wisconsin
6 UCF was edged by an unranked Pitt
7 Iowa was no number 15 as Michigan proved, and they continue to be pantsed weekly
7 Wake Forest allowed Louisville to hang 62 on them
7 Cal was dumped from the AP after losing to Arizona State
7 Boise State lost by three to toothless BYU
11 Iowa State was dethroned before their decent showing against Iowa
11 Memphis lost to possibly 80th best team in the nation Temple and disappeared
11 Michigan State slowly fell out of the ratings, so I was right after all
14 Clemson was dethroned by Mack Brown retirement project UNC
14 Texas lost to the university of Texas at Norman (mid-season toldjasos™)
14 Texas probably over-paid for losing to titan LSU (early-season toldjasos™), but then they let Kansas hang 48 on them at home
17 Auburn over-paid for losing to Florida
17 Texas A&M probably over-paid for quality losses against Clemson and Auburn . . . or maybe not
19 Washington State was de-ranked after becoming lowly UCLA’s first win
20 Virginia continues to lose after losing to can-play-with-UGA Notre Dame
Year to Date It-Would-Seem Blown Calls Because They’re Doing Okay Really Well
1 LSU
2 Oklahoma has gotten better all year and refused to lose to Texas
2 Florida seems to have earned their status by defeating top-ten Auburn
3 UCF is now a skin on the wall after Pitt
4 Michigan no longer a blown call because Wisconsin
5 Washington State no longer a blown call because UCLA
Our year notches another WIN!!! and now grades out at 20-3-3. So closes another week!

Disclosure of sources of bias: your writer has attended the University of Tennessee, Memphis State and the University of Memphis, Christian Brothers College . . . and he sleeps with an alumna of Georgia whose parents met at Washington State . . . and his son went to Houston . . . and he never met anyone from TCU he didn’t like . . . and he irrationally hates Notre Dame, UCF, Clemson, and Notre Dame.
Buckeyes will take it all.
I’ve got zero money against this.
“and he irrationally hates Notre Dame”
There is nothing irrational about hating ND.

I love watching an artist work in his medium.
This is just too damn funny to not post the update.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7609835/Katie-Hill-seen-showing-Nazi-era-tattoo-smoking-BONG-NAKED.html
I can’t get enough of this.
Out of all of those pictured the one I’m most interested in seeing naked is the chick getting her hair brushed while fully clothed.
Who does that on either side
One gets naked so she can brush the other’s hair while the other chick says yes you can be naked and brush my hair but I’m not taking my clothes off?
It’s blurred, but you can see exactly what’s going on. I saw a version of it on another news site where the clothed chick’s face wasn’t blurred and Katie’s nipple was covered by a black square instead of a blur, so there must be an uncensored version floating around. I’m sure it’s all over the seedier parts of the web for those who care to look.
Here Q. Have some more.
https://dailycaller.com/2019/10/24/guam-delegate-san-nicolas-investigation/
Huh, Guam delegate. Have we reached a tipping point?
SO I still don’t get which one has the hottest cheerleaders. I’m gonna guess Iowa
USC
sadly imgur does not on my work computer… I will try on the phone I guess
Decent but needs darker haired units
Hard to argue.
Jesus.
USC usually
Texas has the cutest outfit
Has Playa’s internet come back? I’m still trying to find out the score from last week’s Cal game.
to his credit, I don’t think he carped much when I had Cal overrated
Just FYI: I know some of you are having avatar-disappearing issues. I’m looking into it in my “spare” time.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Oooh. Good idea. Are you a Help Desk Professional?
Here is one.

Watch out for the squirrel and the Shockey Monkey.

No double standards here. Same outcome for any other civilian under similar circumstances.
OFFS. “According to state records, Chief Deputy Jenna Morrison said the Sheriff’s Office told Keyser it planned to fire him for making false statements. Keyser retired before termination proceedings began, the form said.”
So, he kept his fucking pension. And wasn’t charged with anything at all.
Thanks for making my week even better, GL.
And it doesn’t mention his state certification was revoked, so that’s questionable as well. Getting fired under those circumstances used to be almost guaranteed to do so but the last several years that department has gone out of their way in many high profile cases to avoid yanking certifications.
I need a drink before my blood pressure skyrockets.
So where are the night-time glibs?
I saw Festus was lurking earlier – glad to know he’s still around.
You scared them off.
I tend to do that. And not when I want or need to scare people off.
I’ve got my pe exam today, so of course I slept about 4 hours. Stupid fricking body.
I assume you are talking about the Professional Engineer exam – or is there some other PE exam out there?
Nope, that’s the one.
Work is also crazy right now. I’m the only engineer on a project that was supposed to have two people working full time on. Also I have 4 other projects plus random little side jobs. Ezpz.
I never sat for the PE exam. I kinda got out of real engineering early on and just used the analytical/math skills for business. I doubt it would have made much difference working on this side of the Pacific.
Good luck!
Thanks. Everyone at work says I should be fine, and the practice test went okay, (got apassing 4score without several references) but I guess that doesn’t stop the nervous energy from being generated.
Also i have to watch my son 2x a week. And my wife is insane. small Business owner who works part time, just passed her citizen test yesterday, and had a big dance show last weekend, also she went to her sister’s in Albany, also she has 2 other presentations this weekend. And she thinks she’s going to cook a bunch of Diwali sweets. I’m supposed to be helping with all that stuff, and it’s my fault I don’t know more about what’s going on. Cause, what’s confusing about all that happening within one week?
Duck me.
To make this libertarian adjacent, it took 6 months for new York to approve her business name, which she had to change 3 times because some beurocrat (can’t spell,
Did I mention I’m an engineer? ) didn’t like it. this state is a shit hole, Cuomo was right, we don’t belong here.
Well, I finally figured out the problem I was having with my kids’ Nintendo equipment. There was a step in the process for transferring a user from one switch console to another one in which you are told to log in. Since it wasn’t specific I didn’t know that I was supposed to log in with the child account linked to that user ID, not my own parent account. Bleah…
I still hate Nintendo.
Account?
*blows into cartridge to remove any dust*
Now to start the whole game over.
Nintendo Switch, particularly when you have more than one person and/or more than one console, has a host of things – accounts, members, users, profiles, apps etc. – which have to be set up in a specific structure to use them as expected. Of course if you just get one for one kid and set it up without an expert’s knowledge of all that stuff I just mentioned it will bite you on the ass when you try to change anything later.
I hate Nintendo.
Huh.
I’ve been out of the console game a long time, but I saw an ad for the new Zelda, lookedold school awesome. I think the problem with Nintendo I have is they only ever have 2-3 games I’d bother playing (admittedly more than the 0-1 that interest me on most systems), so the initial investment isn’t worth it. Especially when I can dump any free time which I don’t have anyway, into computer games. +2000 hours of EU4 (mostly played before having a kid)
Just another hour to go before I leave. What a waste of time. Any suggestions? Know a good dealer of uppers? I’ll probably fall during the exam, that happen last time when I took the fe (passed).
Oh, and you can’t have food or drink with you… in new York. Duck this state. 8 hour exam with no snacks fascist bastards. Should have faked diabetes.
What corner of this
shitholestate are you in?Early morning links:

This case just went to trial, guy claims he only meant to set himself on fire, it’s a bold strategy cotton.
Back in June, new York made it almost impossible to opt your kids out of the usual vaccines (
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/09/03/nyregion/measles-vaccine-exemptions-ny.amp.html ). Now there’s a bill to include the flu shot and hpv vaccine as well: https://cbs6albany.com/news/local/ny-bill-would-require-hpv-vaccine-for-children-to-enter-school-daycare
The noose tightens.
Forgot about the one link rule. Fascists. 😉

Oh the joy of “piss us off” links, when it’s so many hours until beer-thirty.
The only point of legal guardians here is to ensure someone is responsible when the state doesn’t have the time/inclination to enforce it’s parental rights over our children.
You have the financial responsibility. They get to make all the decisions.
Don’t have kids myself, but did I get that about right?
Yes, you got that right.
To add to to your comment; children are weapons of the state to be used against you.
Wonder whether “If you see something, say something” is still somewhere in the curriculum.
‘Mornin’ TARDy.
Pretty much. I wish we could homeschool, but there is no way my wife would do it, and I know I don’t have the patience, plus in my line off work it’s probably mean I’d never work again.
That’s too bad. Hey, before I get distracted or otherwise forget – good luck on that exam.
I once had delusions of becoming a teacher, so I probably could’ve gotten away with homeschooling, but by the time Mr. GT and I got together (he’s my 2nd, I’m his 3rd) we couldn’t afford kids at all, much less afford to homeschool ’em.
Here in NYC, the flu shot became mandatory for all public school kids as of 01 Jan 2019. Wifey got hers, I took the receipt , scanned it, altered it slightly, and HEY PRESTO, my kids are all flu shotted up. I’ve been forging doctors notes since high school, NYC can suck it!
https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2019/10/24/carl-holmes-philadelphia-police-chief-inspector-indicted-by-grand-jury-on-sex-assault-related-charges/
“The Fraternal Order of Police says they are not representing Holmes or providing him an attorney.”
Good.
“Dude! If you’d just assaulted ‘civilians,’ we could help you out!”
Me too slow. Heh.
Ya gotta be quick on yer fingers ’round these parts. I’ve been beaten to the punch many a time.
Oh, he pissed off some of his Brothers and Sisters. That explains why something will be done. He should have stuck to assaulting “civilians”. I wonder home many of those he assaulted.
Mornin’, GT. At least, I think it’s be morning.
I’m pretty sure the curriculum includes all kinds of state sponsored activities. It’s interesting that we never get to see my son’s schoolwork.
To add to that, you should see the questions that are now asked during the the college application process. I thought my wife was going to have a stroke last night. They want to know everyone’s personal details. I think they even asked about his grand parents. WTF!
Dammit, Brooks it. Stupid phone.
No worries. Too much blood in your caffeine stream?
Wow. Srsly? Is it all done on computer? What would happen if you asked to see it?
They will grudgingly produce some of his “best” work. It’s nothing impressive, considering he is an A student.
At his last (and final) IEP meeting, my wife complained about the lack of homework. The teachers blamed it on parents. They said they had to hand out too many zeroes for not turning work in. I kid you not.
I see a lot of red flags.
Get a different school.
It’s a recent development. My daughter graduated 4 years ago, and was at least challenged a bit. Having lived all over the Atlanta metro, we choose our house based on the schools in my district. They are better schools in the county, but the houses in those areas have about a 30 percent premium. Funny how that works. We knew would not be able to afford private, and home schooling was out.
Still, only grudgingly showing some of the work being done to the parents. This isn’t classified information, and it’s not an unreasonable helicopter request to see what the student’s been doing.
Ah! IEPs! Do I gather correctly that he perhaps has a diagnosed learning disability? I was certified for LD, and the last full-time job I had in education was as an LD tutor at a middle/high school.
The parent asks about homework, and it’s the parents fault the kid isn’t turning in homework the parents don’t know about?? I haz a confuse.
He’s on the spectrum, as they say.
As far the homework goes, parents were apparently giving the teachers grief because Johnny and Susie are too busy with sports and such to do homework.

“Once you get over the realisation that you’re marinating in your own filth, baths are pretty awesome. Even if an errant bit of belly button fluff floats past your nose, soaking in a hot cocoon of bubbles is so relaxing that you probably won’t care one jot. “
1. Shower first.
B. Make that float deep & stable enough to hold a beer or a glass of wine and we’ll talk.
To me, baths are for relaxing. I shower afterwards.

Something something “justifiable” because lawyer. ; )
Geez! Folks get busted for assault for giving far less serious injuries than that!
“ His new attorney argued the injuries Brockler sustained did not rise to the level of serious physical harm.”
The mob needs to put that guy on retainer, good job lawyer guy.
why is there so much activity before the morning linx? What is going on around here? I leave you people alone for a few hours…
I arrived at work, I don’t know what anyone else’s excuse is.
I enjoy a little online conversation with my (U.S. Eastern time) morning coffee, but I have to leave for work just when AM Lynx post, so I check in at the late night (for me) post to see who’s around.
Same here.
Except on Mondays and Tuesdays I’m at work early.
Also: Good day to you, Pie!
G’day. I plan to leave work early today but need to pretend to work for one more hour
Do they also pretend to pay you for that hour?
Well I do more than my fair share of work…
Also I do not get paid by the hour and I have weeks when I stay more than the contractually required 40 hours.
Also also: Sean and TARDIS are time travelers.
I’m pretty much tied to my desk until after the worker bees get spooled up and my boss has the info needed to do boss things. So, in between the PC drudgery, I have a little time to post.
https://twitchy.com/sarahd-313035/2019/10/24/yet-another-one-house-ethics-committee-investigating-dem-delegate-over-alleged-sexual-relationship-with-staffer-and-also-campaign-finance-shenanigans/
Omg. Another D scandal. C’mon folks, let’s spread these out a bit. We’re still enjoying Katie’s naked fun times.
These are pathetic attempts to smear good honest progressives.
Agreed. They need to pace themselves. We don’t want to PE here,
At least the avatars re back.
No they’re not.
yes they are
You’re not going to trick me. I don’t see any avatars.
Must be something wrong with the computers at your work
I’ve had ’em all along on my phone, but still not on my laptop. Lucky you, Pie – helps make up for all the links you can’t access from where you are.
Chrome on PC = no avatars. 🙁
must be just you.
No, you’re just trying to make us think you see them.
That is impossible. Gaslighting has not yet been discovered in Romania
They never left my Kindle.
Late to the party but – Yusef, awesome work on the diorama; I’ll echo the sentiments of others, you should be selling these to Local Game Stores/individual hobbyists.
I don’t remember who recommended The Aquabats Supershow but thank you very much. My kids are now hooked on something I can also watch without having a rage stroke (Disney Jr., I’m looking at you).
Well after that flurry of activity where did everyone go?
I’ve got to shower and head to work.
?
Shower every 3 days to preserve water and save the environment.
I’m at work, I have to do work. Faffing about here is only when I’m waiting for other things.
Same here. Unless it gets slow, the best I can do is enjoy the pithy comments.
Diane Lewis: “Am I interrupting something important?”
Ron Swanson: “Impossible, I work for the government.”
I never said it was important. I said it was work.
I’m reading UCS’s book. I woke up stark awake at 5am.
could be worse could have been lannister awake
