ADMIN NOTES: The old avatar plug-in is apparently not compatible with the latest WP updates, so SP has installed a new plug-in. Unfortunately, that means Glibs need to upload a new avatar image in their user profile dashboard. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also, if you or someone you know has tried to register for the site in the last couple weeks or so, please submit another request as it may have gotten lost in all the updates to WP, themes, plug-ins, forms, etc.
SP and I watched baseball last night and took on a rather outsized ration of ethanol. And we needed it- it’s been one of those weeks. Next week will be better, though, because… well, fuck, no it won’t. Sigh.
Maybe birthdays might make me feel better? An early example of the worthlessness of the Nobel Peace Prize; some drunk dude; a pioneer of pop art; a crewcut you could set your watch by; one of the funniest humans ever; and of course the best sports name ever. Fuck, I still don’t feel better.
News, oh yes, news.
So, basically, that part of the world IS a shithole.
Could you take Clapper with you?
Well, that’s the end of the Trump presidency- this guy is a PROFESSOR!
It would be better for these kids to be blind and dead, say the good-hearted NGOs. Because Progressives believe in science.
I’m stunned to find out that corrupt politicians are corrupt.
Things we all knew. But thank god Cosell is dead.
Old Guy Music breaks a major rule of mine- I hate remasters, they’re usually just a gimmick to sell you music you already own. The Steve Wilson remixes are an exception, and this is a remix of one of my absolute favorite Tull songs, from an era where Anderson’s voice hadn’t gotten spoofulated in the recordings or burned out by cigarettes, touring, the screaming of Aqualung.
“a crew cut you could set your watch by”
And I was expecting Johnny Unitas.
No-one expects Johnny Unitas!
I was expecting the Spanish Inquisition.
Seth Cotlar, a professor of American history at Willamette University, offered a scathing critique of the Trump administration via Twitter on Thursday night
That’s it, then. The jig is up.
Vox academi.
Willamette? Never heard of her.
Girl, that’s a pretty name!
Is that you?
(the avtar)
It is. Was gonna save it for Halloween, but since I had to reset it anyway, I decided to go ahead. Probably temporary.
It can’t be . . .that’s a woman . . .there are no libertarian women.
Well, I’m not uploading a pic of the proof I’m a chick.
I thought redheads were always down for that sort of thing?
Only the ones in Q’s links.
“Seth Cotlar, a professor of American history at Willamette University, offered a scathing critique of the Trump administration via Twitter on Thursday night”
Breet Pharara, a random yahoo with an internet connection, offered a scathing critique of the Obama administration via a random far-right wing blog on Sunday.
I literally see no different between these two statements. When do I get a news story about me?
For its part, Greenpeace has insisted over the years that Golden Rice is a hoax and that its development was diverting resources from dealing with general global poverty, which it maintained was the real cause of the planet’s health woes.
Diverting resources away from NGO parasites like Greenpeace.
goddamned frogs screwed up
Rats driving cars. I love the internet
We’re hitting the beginning of the snowbird season here. Lots of rats driving cars.
“Snowbird season.” Le sigh.
“Winter visitors, bro.” -Yuma, AZ Chamber of Commerce
I was behind one of them yesterday. Ohio plates, big puff of white hair, 10 under the limit in the left lane. “If I were as old as you are, I’d be in more of a hurry!”
If I had a dollar for everytime I shouted, “Don’t you need to be somewhere before you die!”, I’d be rich. Michiganers and Ohioans, I hear Alabama is nice this time of year. You can get to Florida that way too.
Jerry Seinfeld had a joke about that, saying you should be able to drive your age. If you’re 80, go 80!
I’m standing at the end of my driveway waving good bye to all those headed South.
“Enjoy the winter, see you in June or July ”
/With any kind of luck
Buh-bye, enjoy the warm air
The ratio of good stuff to bad stuff in the fecal tests increased in the rats who got to drive the car, while rats who simply rode along as passengers operated at less healthy levels.
Serves the rat seat drivers right.
FWIW, University of Richmond is a private school. No idea if taxpayer “grant” money was somehow involved.
100% chance this was taxpayer grant. The private/public status of the school isn’t much of a factor- think of the grant money flowing to Harvard, Penn, Princeton, MIT, CalTech….
The Cartagena Protocol contains a highly controversial clause known as Principle 15 or, more commonly, the precautionary principle. This states that if a product of modern biotechnology poses a possible risk to human health or the environment, measures should be taken to restrict or prevent its introduction.
Of course. If some adverse effect is possible, it must be assumed to be inevitable. That’s how science works.
Try suggesting that new government regulations be subject to the precautionary principle.
And yet this same people believe every bit of the “Climate Crisis” “science”.
You shouldn’t be able to choose when science is correct, especially if you’re in the “party of science “.
Since the Islamic State often dressed its captives in orange before killing them, many of the captives gasped when they saw the new outfits, thinking they were about to be killed, too.
“Gosh, I hope they aren’t as evil as we are.”
Maybe Comey can get a government consulting gig taking New Zealanders’ guns away. And censoring their speech.
So he’s attempting to flee before they arrest him.
Jethro Tull — most excellent!
Costello (still) dead — excellent!
John Cleese — masterful humor, but less interesting than one would think. Interesting to compare his autobiography to Eric Idle’s.
We had a brief encounter with him once near Santa Barbara. We were at a breakfast buffet at a fancy hotel, and spotted him in the corner being harangued by an eager fan. Painful fixed smile on his face.
Poor guy.
Yeah, that would suck.
I got the impression he wasn’t really all that social/sociable, and took a while to get comfortable with new people or situations.
The few of his training videos I’ve seen have been quite entertaining.
Effing autocorrect. Costello’s still alive, thank the gods, but Cosell is still dead.
Meanwhile, I’m considering inserting pineapples into WordPress and Gravatar. :-<
Gravatar won’t let me in with my handle, email address or password. Wants me to set up an entirely new account for a new blog or something. Fuck that. I may just be avatarless from here on.
Never mind.
How’d you get it in? It wouldn’t work for me either.
You have to create a WordPress account, it seems.
Click the link to Gravatar in your profile. Click the sign in in the upper right corner of Gravatar, and it auto links to this site. There’s a confirmation email, etc.
and it auto links to this site that part isn’t there for me
Ok. It seems to have worked. This is bullshit! ATTICA! ATTICA!
I would gladly accept company while pineapple-Ing WordPress & Gravatar.
They’ve earned multiples.
What about Abbott?
And since Rugby is getting the knock off in the links…
Wales 16 South Africa 19: Handre Pollard kicks Springboks past defiant Wales to set up final against England
Damian de Allende could score with me any day.
Would you give him a try?
Wales vs England just for the lolz. Devolution in action. Oh well.
I don’t like buying into these types of bullshit narratives but it does kinda seem like this is England’s time. And I’d go to war with Eddie Jones tomorrow if he asked me 😉
Anyone else now to the point where they just keep scrolling past ‘California Wildfire?’
https://www.foxnews.com/us/northern-california-wildfire-evacuations-expand-to-90000-residents
I feel like these fires have been non-stop in the news cycle for a few years now.
Bunch of hick Republicans anyhow.
My niece just got informed of a mandatory evac. They live in Santa Rosa. She said they aren’t leaving. I really don’t remember the north burning as much, but I guess the utility lines are getting worse and worse due to lack of maintenance. Maybe, I have to rely on the news and the government to tell me.
While I think this is true, there has also been plenty of development of wildfire prone areas.
My aunt almost got burned out in the 1991 Oakland fire. Fall is wildfire season in California as long as I’ve known it.
Get them while they’re young! The teachers are doing it, why not throw the doctors in there too:
https://www.statnews.com/2019/10/27/weight-loss-surgery-preteens/
“The old avatar plug-in is apparently not compatible with the latest WP updates…”
Told ya! But I’m proud of the lads for being so patient on this, as well we should have been.
And look at Mr. Special Boy, Ted. S, first with a new avatar. That beard suits you, bro. 😉
I’m not first. A couple of people in the overnight thread have Gravatar avatars.
It’s a little disconcerting with only your avatar here.
Now I got Tonio. Nice.
[*** POST EDITED 9:23 AM SERVER TIME TO CORRECT INFO ***]
At the upper right of the Glibs window click on Howdy [your name], then Edit Your Profile.
Scroll down ALL THE WAY to the bottom of the page. If the bottom-most section is ABOUT YOURSELF / Profile Picture then you will have to use external service Gravatar to create an Avatar picture. Gravatar creates “universal” avatars (ie, to be used across multiple websites) which may not sit well with some people here. Blame WordPress.
HOWEVER, some of you will see an ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT section at the bottom, if so you can change your picture in the Avatar — Image section without using Gravatar.
The people who see Account Management are regular Glibs contributors (of articles, fiction, cartoons, videos, links); those folks have slightly elevated privileges so that they can upload submissions directly instead of using the mail-in form.
Sorry for any confusion my earlier post caused.
For best results use a square image, otherwise WP will auto-crop the center of the image. My first attempt cut off my snout.
There’s a separate spot where you can put in your avatar without doing the Gravatar thing. Scroll down a little further.
I found this out after fumbling around a bit.
I’m not seeing that. oh well, gravatar works, it seems.
Not “the hyperbole”
Same issue ad The Hyperbole. I can’t see anything other than gravatar.
It’s been a busy weekend so not much on line time. Read the awful accident that Evan had. Thanks for making that a full post instead of a comment.
Ditto.
Missed that one and just saw it today. Damn. Terrible thing to happen to the poor kid. The picture freaked me out. Best wishes and all that.
Yeah, it’s hard to imagine crunching up your skull like that and then taking selfies and cracking jokes about. Guy’s tough as nails, that’s for sure.
I’m not seeing that, either.
The problem with gravatar is that I don’t want a “universal” avatar that follows me around the internet. I mean, my avatar here gives the finger. I don’t want that to show up on Grandma’s cooking blog, you know?
I think that would be more than appropriate fro Grandma’s cooking blog.
I believe you can link them to emails, which is why mine is my company logo right now, I’m trying to change my e-mail so I can put one of my old beer toasting guys back up, with out it being associated with my business e-mail.
Link to grandma’s cooking blog?
I literally have the exact same issue.
You follow his grandma’s blog?
You don’t?
You don’t?
Well, not her cooking blog.
I’m not seeing that either.
And Gravatar wants a WP account? I assume that is separate from Glibs but it says my handle is taken. WTF?
*sigh*
I had to reactivate an old email address I don’t use anymore to get a link to reset a password I don’t remember creating in 2007.
Oops, my bad. You can also do this through your Howdy Tonio — Edit Your Profile section. Scroll down PAST Profile Picture to Account Managemen — Avatar — Image.
For best results use a square image, otherwise WP will auto-crop the center of the image. My first attempt cut off my snout.
I’m not seeing “Account Managemen — Avatar — Image”
Sorry, Lads. Corrected in above post.
?? Mine only has “New Password” and “Sessions” as options.
Same here.
Oh. Disregard my question.
I’ve had avatars the entire time. Zero issues. Don’t know what’s wrong with the lot of ya.
And now I don’t. Ha ha ha ha ha.
Speaking of the precautionary principle
There are also questions about data privacy and whether workers have a right to know how the data being collected on them on the job is being used — including if it’s being used to feed the AI behind new autonomous warehouse machines. If that’s happening, it would mean that workers may unwittingly train their own replacements.
“Workers in this country don’t really have rights over the data that is collected about them at work,” Gutelius said. “If we think about the long-run implications of that, the ability to collect data at this granular level could very well be informing the next wave of technological development and robots.”
Another way the industry is putting pressure on workers with new technology is through gamification that pits warehouse workers against each other. Some Amazon warehouse pickers, for example, play a Tetris-like game called MissonRacer, where employees race to fill customer orders through a virtual competition that mirrors their real-life packing rates.
This kind of competitive monitoring caused Amazon workers, like former warehouse worker Eric Guillen, undue stress.
“It pushed us to the limits — and in fact, it pushed me so far as for me to get physically injured on the job,” Guillen told Recode. “I was diagnosed with a hernia at age 23. The algorithms that were in place for us, they made us follow unrealistic rates.”
Vox handwringer about automation and process analysis.
tl;dr- It’s bad.
And also, this:
The warehousing workforce is also, compared to the rest of the working population, more likely to be young, male, and Latinx or black. According to the report, workers of color constitute 66 percent of front-line workers in the warehousing industry but just 37 percent of the American labor force — which means that the effects of new technologies will be felt the most by people of color.
“That job sucks. I’d rather see you starve.”
Now bitch about all the data the state is collecting on you.
I hope those rats are properly secured in their little rat drivers’ seats.

So, what do we do now?
The goddamn links are an hour early goddamnit.
Only if you’re on metric time.
Real time is UTC.
GMT or GTFO.
Look the links should be there at 15 not 14.
I’m in pacific wildfire time. It’s always early here.
The opposite of metric time.
Love don williams’ voice.
Blame your European DST not being in sync with the rest of the world.
Dude, you spelled Supermax wrong.
Hey, a fella can dream, can’t he?
Probably not enough involuntary sodomizing at Supermax. Put him in Rikers.
I was hoping the lot of them would get to take turns being Hillary’s cellmate.
It’s your week with the Maw, Mr. Comey.
Enjoy!
That’s a lot of suicides.
You say that like it’s a bad thing. Besides, feeding the Maw is not suicide. Old commies/tyrants may not be as tasty as fresh tender babies, but the beast must be nourished. *Paging SF*
Huh. My avatar in my profile seems intact.
And in posts, it seems.
No fair using our tactics and rhetoric against us
Since the laws are being framed as an equal rights issue, as opposed to a reproductive rights issue, it has become a divisive quandary not only for those who are undecided on abortion rights, but even those within pro-choice factions.
The lawmakers behind these laws are using language in a way that evokes emotions and elevates nonexistent problems, forcing people who support abortion rights to respond to things that aren’t issues, said Megan Donovan, a senior policy manager at the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights.
——-
“This is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” Wang said. “If supporters of these bans are truly concerned about gender equity, they would work on pay equity, maternity leave policies, stop sexual harassment in the workplace, and would fund programs that support girls. Clearly that’s not happening here.”
While states continue to consider the issue, the harm it causes grows, Donovan said.
“The bans are intended to reduce opportunities for people to get abortion care,” she said, “while at the same time teeing up constitutional challenges that could strip away the right to abortion overall.”
Laws against abortion for gender selection. Is it an issue? I certainly don’t know, but I can’t help feeling a little tingle of amusement any time the social justice pretzel logic gets turned back on its practitioners.
Yes. Now I want to see them do toddler gender reassignment vs gay “conversion” therapy (which is abusive bullshit, btw).
I’ve thought the same thing, but I think they would argue that forcing a kid to stay his gender is an attempt to convert him to be not trans Target than accept him.
I’m kicking that around as an article idea, but I’d also be happy for someone else to tackle it. The whole thing is just incredibly depressing.
Note the key use of equity, not equality.
MNF intro: “….two powers in professional football…..the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns…” My have times changed.
Liked the music. I HATE today’s version and all that glitz. The music sucks.
Re the story about GM rice. Gee, who didn’t see that coming? I’m sure the anti-GMers and all their ‘Frankenfood’ rhetoric care.
Death cult, dude, death cult.
Bastiat missed something when he wrote seen vs unseen. He forgot that often is about seen vs what is refused to be seen. The anti GMO folk refuse to see the actual deaths their lobbying makes for.
Re the story about GM rice. Gee, who didn’t see that coming? I’m sure the anti-GMers and all their ‘Frankenfood’ rhetoric care.
That rice will just make those kids fat. And besides, the world is overpopulated, anyway. Now send us some money so we can fly to Davos.
“Unfortunately, that means Glibs need to upload a new avatar image in their user profile dashboard.”
Things major procrastinators dread reading.
I’m feeling slow this morning. I don’t know how to use Gravatar with this site.
Need more coffee.
Oh…nevermind…It looks like it worked.
You don’t need it if you scroll down a leeeeeeetle bit more.
I need a better hint.
#metoo

After that is the end of the page….
Sounds like a horror scene. Did a clown pop up?
I was told there would be no math.

Yes. Now I want to see them do toddler gender reassignment vs gay “conversion” therapy (which is abusive bullshit, btw).
Absolutely.
Now I’m going to have to come up with an avatar. Shouldn’t take more than a week or two.
Did mine work? I hate learning and doing and signing up for new things.
I’m worried that signing up with Gravatar will end up populating every site I’ve given a link to my e-mail with the avatar I use here. Not something I want.
Shit, really? I just may have to go blank again.
THERE IS A WORK-AROUND WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO BYPASS GRAVATAR. MY BAD.
Maybe that’s only for superusers?
Us muggles don’t have it.
Crap. You’re right.

New Archaeological Evidence Shows Pontius Pilate Not as Bad as We Thought
“The existence of the street was well known to archaeologists ever since its discovery by British archaeologists in 1894, but what has emerged from the more recent excavations was that it was Pilate who was responsible for its construction.”
He built a road, therefore great government administrator.
Muh roadz!
And thanks to the increased efficiency of cross dragging on the new road, they were able to double the weekly crucifixion quota.
If leftists could, they’d erect crucifixes of their enemies all along the ‘muh roadz’ like on the Appian Way.
Laugh. But you know deep down they would. Death cult and all that.
did the chariots arrive on time?
Avatar test. (Sorry.)
Are you really though?
No. I’m offered zero options for uploading or using a new avatar that doesn’t involve Gravatar. Possibly browser-specific (I’m using latest Firefox on Windows 7 Pro). Since I’m not interested in using Gravatar, that’s it for now. OMWC’s hint about scrolling down shows me nothing, and clicking on every.single.possible.link in my Profile page also offers me nothing. It’s an interesting intelligence test if nothing else, and one I’ve utterly failed.
Oh well, it’s Sunday. There’s other stuff I can be doing.
i don’t remember where I got my avatar picture. What is the copyright view of avatars?
I don’t see your avatar.
PR blitz
Between the election of President Trump and Britain’s ongoing debate over Brexit, the billionaire philanthropist George Soros recognizes that populism is on the rise and that his brand of liberal democracy is faltering.
“When I got involved in what I call political philanthropy some 40 years ago, the open society idea was on the ascendant — closed societies were opening up,” Soros said in an interview with NPR’s All Things Considered. “And now, open societies are on the defensive and dictatorships are on the rise.”
——-
His new book, In Defense of Open Society, published this week, compiles a selection of his (often worrisome) essays in which Soros muses on what he views as modern threats to democratic societies — including social media and artificial intelligence, particularly when used by authoritarian regimes to manipulate the public.
Authoritarianism is what I say it is. Populism is when those fucking dummies in flyoverland vote for a candidate I don’t want. Anybody who says stuff I disagree with is manipulating public opinion with propaganda and misinformation.
“billionaire philanthropist George Soros,” but “evil conservative billionaire Charles Koch.”
And between the two who would you expect was literally in the Hitler Youth?
“And now, open societies are on the defensive and dictatorships are on the rise.”
Where? What formerly Democratic nation in the last 10 years installed a dictator? I can think of a few, but they don’t fit your narrative. (Venezuela, Turkey)
Trump’s on the teevee.
“Secure the oil.”
Oh, noes, he’s plundering the Middle East to destroy the planet!!!!11
If the left tried to pivot to an anti war position, id be inclined to tell them to fuck off
he is talking about greek olive oil
So somewhat serious question about that (which is probably a mistake)… Who the fuck is in control of Syrian oil fields if not the Assad govt and its cronies? So are we securing that for them against ISIS? Or is someone else running that show, and collecting the revenue – and if so, WHO?
Russia.
Seriously.
Yep.
The best thing about MNF is actually the tail end of Monday Night Countdown. If Mr. GT and I are out running errands early Monday evening (as we frequently are,) we try to make a point of getting home in time for “C’mon, Man!”
Why is no one telling me what the astros are doing in this thread?
Because no one cares?

Stoopid question:
Where do I upload my new avatar? It seems as thought the option is no longer there in my profile.
Nevermind, answered upthread.
Stoopider question:
How did I become a squid? Ugh. Lemme try again.
is squid something they eat in Japan?
Yes. I love squid ink pasta. I don’t love making it though. *Shudders at the memory*
you need Nassim Taleb to judge if it is real squid ink pasta
My squid is anti fragile, thank you very much.
I can’t find it either. Besides gravitar. Which I’m not using.
Actually, this. ^^
There is only Gravatar and I’ve scrolled all the way to the bottom.
It must be an author-access thing, then. Folks who are regular contributors get to directly upload their articles (etc) for review instead of using the mail-in form. Ugh.
I can do that and I not seeing an option other than gravatar.
Same here
I directly upload and still see nothing besides gravatar.
^^This.
Nope. I can create and submit my own articles as well, and I still only have the Profile Picture under About Yourself with the Gravatar option. Just checked in both Chrome and FireFox on Windows 7.
I will not waste my Sunday trying to put an avatar. That is what work hours are for.
I didn’t realize that you too worked for a governmental entity.
my job has lots of dead times when I am waiting for simulations to finish
I don’t think I want a gravatar.
< This is how glibs will end up.
Well think of the children or something
John Cleese movies ranked (tw picture slideshow)
goddamnit where is the link?
Gravatar?
https://www.goldderby.com/gallery/john-cleese-movies-12-greatest-films-ranked-worst-to-best/#!12/monty-python-and-the-holy-grail/
I haven’t seen half of those; I can’t argue with the ordering of the ones I have seen. But I question whether Fierce Creatures is really 12th – I quite enjoyed it.
Yeah I’d rank it over A Fish Called Wanda.
Now you’re just being ridiculous.
Love Grail, but Brian > Grail. Did not care for Meaning of Life. #waferthinmint
It has some misses, but also contains some real classics. Every sperm is sacred, the universe song, death comes to dinner, choosing your own execution, the corporate pirates…
Yes, “Every Sperm is Sacred” is a winner. A spectacular show-stopper – best bit in the movie.
The sex ed segment, OMG.
what’s wrong with a kiss boy? give her a nice kiss before charging at the clitoris
LOL forgot about that one.
Brian > Grail is facts. I like Meaning of Life as well but place it 3d… although the distance between them is not great for me.
I would rank Clockwise as #1. It is a brilliant film; it’s sort of the comedic Yin to the dramatic Yang that is Falling Down.
In that case, I’ll keep an eye out for it. I hadn’t heard of it.
It’s a similar tale of a man being confronted by events beyond his control and cracking under the strain. Instead of Mike Douglas being violent and bitter, it’s Cleese doing his best splerging since Fawlty Towers.
Re: birthday boy Dick Trickle’s suicide (from Wikip):
And probably couldn’t effectively treat the pain ‘cuz drugs are bad, m’kay?
Mr. GT & I are NASCAR fans and loved Dick Trickle. For a long time while Trickle was still driving one or the other series, Kenny Mayne would always announce how Trickle had finished, no matter how far back in the pack he’d been.
Stupid, fucking WoD.
The WoD is definitely evil incarnate. I have to suppress my support of the Golden Rule, and wish pain and suffering on the WoD worshipers.
Cute critters in your new av.
To my way of thinking, if I was evil, I’d deserve punishment. The golden rule allows for that. “Judge not, lest ye be judged” Judge away, I’ve prepared for it.
He died in 2013 — that’s a bit before the opioid panic, no?
Hrm…New avatar test
My account avatar in the upper right corner doesn’t match my comment avatar. I’m giving up. On yours I see some chick putting on a hat.
Sean, you seem to have become…”fluid.” NTTIAWWT. (One or the other Romana?)
…and I’m back. ?
It was Romana 2.
There you are! The other Fourth Doctor avatar you had up for a few seconds was also good.
Unfortunately, I think my avatar is on the computer that won’t boot up.
So somewhat serious question about that (which is probably a mistake)… Who the fuck is in control of Syrian oil fields if not the Assad govt and its cronies? So are we securing that for them against ISIS? Or is someone else running that show, and collecting the revenue – and if so, WHO?
Some guy on Meet the Press is saying ISIS has been in control of them. Now Chuckie wants to know who “owns” that oil, and why do we get to decide? Because we need to be in there providing police and fire services, but not interfering in stuff like that, apparently.
So, the ISIS Sovereign Oil Company? Once out of the ground that shit had to flow to some buyers – there is just so much that doesn’t add up, even a little.
Can’t wait for the inevitable “Trump and Putin secretly own an oil company and are enriching themselves by stealing Syrian oil.”
Or so an un-named source in the CIA told the NYT.
Speaking of death cults, could you imagine this guy knowing where the guns are?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhGloalAh1w
that is old
Yup. But still relevant.

Great news for everybody except that guy who got blown to smithereens, anyway.
Trump’s Amerikkka and its shocking racist legacy
A new poll has found that a majority of Americans oppose the payment of reparations to the descendants of slaves.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey found that 29 percent of Americans support the payment of cash reparations while 68 percent oppose such a move.
Support for reparations was largely split along racial lines, as 74 percent of black respondents support them compared to 15 percent of white respondents. Forty-four percent of Hispanic respondents said they support reparations.
The only possible explanation is race hatred and a not so secret desire to re-institute slavery.
74% of blacks support it?
I know they largely stand to gain from it, but that’s depressing.
Everyone is a “descendent of slaves” if you go back far enough.
give all wimminz were practically slaves and still are, yes
Which is the more laughable proposition:
Giving money for nothing largely to people whose grandparents weren’t even slaves in the name of “reparations for slavery”; or
That this is going to constitute a one-time payment settling former grievances and not turn into a recurring pattern of “reparations”?
A quick google search tells me there are 37.1 million blacks in America. A one time $100 dollar payment would cost 3.7 billion dollars (not including graft, sorry “administration costs”). Does anyone thing $100 dollars would be seen as “enough”. Or that anyone whose 1/1024 black wouldn’t be trying to game the system for the money as well?
Rachel Dolezal or whatever her new name is will be first in line.
I mean the won guy who won it all after a hot hand in a dice game would be happy
This is the kind of proposal you get from people who aren’t actually serious about “solving” anything.
The monumental shitshow it would unleash would make the last couple years look like unicorns and rainbows. I can only surmise that that is the entire point of the exercise.
I’ve already squared things with all of my former slaves. So these grifters can fuck right off.
I’ve been pardoned.
I love that one.
Something something it’s bad and wrong when Trump does it.
Like many others here, I think I’m going to pass on Gravatar; sounds too intrusive.
So goodbye Inky I guess.
Yeah. No way I’m signing up for Gravatar. Hopefully SP can work her magic and find some way around this bullshit.
This account and now the gravitar are set up with a dummy e-mail anyway, so this is the only site that piece of shit will touch.
Huh I didn’t think to do that.
If TPTB find a workaround to eliminate the Gravatar requirement I’ll jump on it, though.
My e-mail lets me set up dummy accounts that come into the same in-box; makes that sort of thing easy.
Nice. I run my own server and the email setup is a PITA. Maybe they have a burner account function, I should check.
Your avatar is showing up just fine for me. My cache or did you read it?
I set it up on the Gravatar site.
Ah.
And that should have been redo not read. Autocorrect seems to be getting more aggressive. And wrong.
I followed your lead; used an account I only use for fantasy football. And after this year I won’t even be doing that anymore.
And then I couldn’t find my beloved Ignignokt, so I am using a placeholder until I find him.
I like the place holder.
Second day of pistol match was rained out. The awards were handed out on the basis of yesterday’s scores, and I placed in the money, with my fabulous prize being a $10 gift certificate to a gun shop called (and I am not making this up)”Calamity Jane’s Firearms and Fine Shoes. ”
I credit my success to my strategy of “hoping the really good shooters stay home.”
I’ve had most of my very limited success using that same strategy.
I’m tempted to hang my framed, laser-printed certificate on the wall of my cube, but I’m afraid HR would think I was threatening my coworkers.
The distribution of competitors was very weird. If I had shot in the “Custom Defensive Pistol” category, I would have won it outright. Nobody even entered the Compact Carry division. The overall winner was shooting in Stock with me. We did have a couple of first time shooters that I had harrangued into attending, and the joy radiating out from them as they were discovering how much fun it is was gratifying.
Mazel Tov! Hope you can get a great deal on a nice pair of shoes.
Apparently it’s a business run by a husband-and-wife team that also own a tractor supply store across the street.
sounds very redneck american. hope they are genuine redneck and not just appropriating the culture.
Much of the region north of NYC is every bit as redneck as anywhere in the south.
Looking at a map Hudson Falls seems in the middle of nowhere for that region
Having worked extensively for Lafarge in Buchanan, NY can confirm
That’s my age group racing strategy. The running gods are hip to it, though – if they gave baubles for 4th, I would have a much shinier trophy shelf.

The fact that people dumb as a rock can broadcadt their opinions to the world is one of the greater example if the success of capitalism
Maybe I’m misremembering, but I cannot recall a single time when the Meet the Press gang brought in a bunch of former GWB administration officials to second guess Obama’s decisions and performance.
No principles means no principles.
Those officials must have left their perfect decision making powers at home when they were in charge.
So, when Trump leaves office, he’ll get to be on all those shows to harangue the next D president, right?
does making a honey syrup imply anything besides putting honey in hot water to dissolve?
Nope, water and honey would be it. Assuming this is for a cocktail?
Isn’t honey a syrup by itself?
Nope. After being very very pleased with the results of my bitter cherry infused gin, to which I added a few tablespoons of honey for 800 grams of cherries and 1. liters of gin, I did gin infused with blackberries and blueberries, but added no sweeteners at all. While it is okay, I think just very little extra sweetness may enhance the flavor so I want to make a little honey syrup and add to one of the bottles. As an experiment to see how it is better, no honey or a little honey.
The old avatar plug-in is apparently not compatible with the latest WP updates, so SP has installed a new plug-in.
Thank you SP.
That’s a good Tull song.
Good morning everyone. Just posting to test my avatar. Then I’ll go back to lurking.

Founders Brewing is putting on some sort of shitshow
This week’s Founders Brewing fiasco is a crisis communication failure that reveals an inability to keep image protection and legal strategy in balance
The 22-year-old Michigan company’s missteps could become a public relations training case study.
——-
Any company risks strategic setbacks when it lets lawyers serve as field generals in a public relations and employee relations battle. Inside Founders’ headquarters on Grandville Avenue SW in Grand Rapids, Graci Harkema saw the danger early on. As the diversity director says bluntly Friday in a two-weeks-notice letter to top executives:
“I have repeatedly given suggestions on how to build our reputation and listen to our employees. . . . This feedback I have given is also the exact same feedback that credible public relations firms have given, which you blantly disagreed with.
“In every conversation and with every action, you’ve been most concerned with winning the lawsuit [by Tracy Evans of Detroit]. You are [more] concerned with the ego of ‘winning’ than you are about the loss of customers, loss of reputation and employees’ loss of well-being. That does not exemplify the Founders principles.”
——-
Harkema’s stinging rebuke, shared on Facebook, accuses co-founders Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers of a narrow-view focus rather than wide-angle framing.
My perspective is informed by experience as a consultant (fancy label for freelancer) on a marketing communications team for five years and on a longer government affairs project at another Metro Detroit agency. In addition to learning about unique value propositions and key performance indicators, I saw the push and pull between legal and communications executives.

“We as a company didn’t have to be at the place we are at now. If the voice of a Diversity & Inclusion Director was heard, headlines would read much differently. We had the opportunity to be the hero in how we could have addressed this situation.
“Instead, we have lost the trust of the community, many of our accounts and many of our own employees. The prioritization of diversity and inclusion begins at the top. We are not experiencing a staff issue, we are experiencing a leadership issue.”
I have learned little, other than this Harkema person specializes in self-promotion and bullshit jargon.
Social justice herd mentality on display. Don’t be the last one to sever ties with the pariah, or people will think you secretly agree with their racism and misogyny.
Note to self: never, ever offer a job to that person if the opportunity should materialize.
Terminate her for cause immediately.
Diversity over quality, a winning formula!
They created the position and hired her – they are getting exactly what they deserve for attempting to placate the SJW mob.
Looking at a map Hudson Falls seems in the middle of nowhere for that region
Nonsense. Fort Edward, however…
Let’s see if profile is pic is here.
nope
Don’t listen to this guy ^
It’s there.
I went with Gravatar for the moment. We shall see.
I tried and got confirmation but it’s not working!!
It took a little while for mine to show up. Probably has to run through all of the NSA servers first.
Y’all would revoke my Glibs card if you saw the NSA challenge coins I’ve had presented by the Director these past couple of years…
I did it last night, but it didn’t show up for me for a while.
There you are!
I’d had a WordPress blog for about five minutes way back when, so I figured WTH.
So I did the Gravatar thing.
It was in no way a pain in the ass.
I don’t resent being forced to give contact info to another fly-by-night company who have now linked my fake Glibs life to my Google real life.
Face palm.
Even you non- Christians know this is coming, right?
I’m watching and waiting, it’s coming…….
I don’t like Gravatars, the idea sucks, one Avatar for all? Fuck that
Amen bro!
According to my model, my model is correct
A new report from the International Energy Agency released Friday claims that wind power could be a $1 trillion business by 2040 and that the power provided by the green technology has the potential to outstrip global energy needs.
“Talk about a breath of fresh air,” tweeted writer Steven E. de Souza.
The IEA report looks at the business of wind power and opines that as investment increases and the technology becomes cheaper, the sector could explode.
“Offshore wind currently provides just 0.3% of global power generation, but its potential is vast,” said IEA executive director Fatih Birol.
It would take a major infrastructural commitment to develop wind power to the point that the renewable energy resource could take over the majority of global energy needs, but it’s not impossible. As The Guardian pointed out Friday, “if windfarms were built across all useable sites which are no further than 60km (37 miles) off the coast, and where coastal waters are no deeper than 60 metres, they could generate 36,000 terawatt hours of renewable electricity a year.”
“This would easily meeting the current global demand for electricity of 23,000 terawatt hours,” added The Guardian.
And, of course, this new power source will be completely reliable and perfectly matched to demand.
ISIS leader killed
***
The ISIS leader’s death came in a successful U.S. military operation in northwest Syria Saturday night that took roughly two hours.
The Islamic State leader detonated an explosive vest as U.S. Special Operations Forces stormed his compound in the Idrib Province. Trump said he died whimpering at the back of a dead-end tunnel.
