Congratulations. We’ve made it through another week. This one, sadly, is ending with a head cold for me. But that’s what happens when winter arrives and it gets down into the high 40s. I’m sure some of you can relate to this arctic blast, so I won’t dwell on it.
Tiger Woods the captain has picked…Tiger Woods the player to be on his President’s Cup team. Sounds like a solid plan with the way he’s been playing lately. Although I’m a bit shocked Rickie Fowler was left off the squad.
The Raiders beat the flailing Chargers last night. Your NHL winners were Toronto, Washington, Pittsburgh, Philly, NYR, Ottawa, Chicago, Colorado, Calgary, Columbus and San Jose. And circling back to football, this might be the dumbest idea since that “Ghostbusters” remake with all those unfunny broads in it. I mean…its literally that stupid.
Vlad the Impaler was born on this day. I bet Pie is out celebrating by sucking the blood out of something. Also born on this day were/are comet-spotter Edmond Halley, author Bram Stoker (ironically), board game magnate Milton Bradley, writer Margaret Mitchell, engineer Jack Kilby, football coaching legend Bobby Bowden, NRA exec Wayne LaPierre, drag queen Chi Chi LaRue, TV’s favorite asshole Gordon Ramsay, and recipient of a bad boob job Tara Reid.
That’s not too shabby a list. Now on to…the links!
Is there a Labour Party member that’s not an anti-Semite or a moron who says anti-Semitic things and then plays dumb? I see he went with Randall’s “Porch Monkey Defense” with no success whatsoever. It was a bold play but seems to have failed.
When will Americans start treating their failed and corrupt politicians like this? Just kidding. I don’t condone this type of violence. But I’d probably tolerate it if they don’t stop spending us (further) into bankruptcy.
Things are about to go from bad to worse in Hong Kong. I feel for those people and pray they stay safe in the coming days and weeks. But I fear for the worst.
“You fucked up. you trusted us.” Somebody is gonna lose their license over this and an insurance company is gonna wish they hadn’t written that malpractice policy. Yikes!
We are approaching Peak Retard, people. In fact…fuck it, I think we’re there.
If you got a weird text yesterday, try to recall what you did on Valentine’s Day to the person who sent it. And then go weep in a corner like the betas in this story did.
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!!! Suck it, Golden State.
This is how Ladies Week ends. I hope y’all enjoyed it.
That’s it for me, friends. Hope you have a great Friday and a better weekend.
Congratulations. We’ve made it through another week – one week older and not a penny richer
Damn. Hate when that happens. Shows 0 comments. I refresh…still 0. And then….Pie is there.
Like herpes, amirite?
I figure I’ll let Pie get in first, I mean, it’s his creators birthday today and stuff.
!
What the hell is that supposed to mean? You trying to start shit rufus?
IT’S AN INSIDE JOKE!?
MUPPET FIGHT???
“When will Americans start treating their failed and corrupt politicians like this? Just kidding. I don’t condone this type of violence.”
Neither does the #resistance, unless they are doing it to the opposition.
Speaking of which, anyone seen projection like this before?

Nope because the page doesn’t exist.
HEPL EDIT FAIRY..

Well I’ll never get that time back now.
I feel cheated.
WOE! WOW!
smh.
Can Republicans relearn how to accept political outcomes they don’t like?
Good lord…
It’s so hard these days to tell reality from a Babylon Bee article…
That one of these dnc operatives with bylines actually published this shit after the last 3 years of this fucking deep state coup attempt shows you how disconnected from reality these people have become. They can’t even see they are projecting and how stupid they look when they do this shit…
I bet Pie is out celebrating by sucking the blood out of something. – the escort i visited today was not actually menstruating
SAY WUT??
Is thay dot a swiss like placeholder?
But of course!
Just wait…Those periods get eaten
Earning your Red Wings?
Uffda. The guys are really going to rag on you for that statement Pie.
There is sure to be a red tide of criticism the same as when Aunt Flo visits.
Man, I didn’t want to read this. I wish I was more like a shark, weak at reading.
Don’t go telling people you want to be a shark, Leap. They will think you are crazy and put you in a padded cell. With a ton of security, a maxi-padded cell if you will.
And if they do that, he might have a heart problem requiring a tamponade.
That’s what he gets for inserting himself and stopping the flow.
I can usually tamp on my antisocial instincts long enough to get through a psych eval.
Bravo *Standing ovulation*
*menapplause*
Baby, it was cold outside…last Valentines day.
Is there a Labour Party member that’s not an anti-Semite or a moron who says anti-Semitic things and then plays dumb? – as i said yesterday it is a zionist conspiracy agains labor. In the end i blame the jews
So do they.
Also goddamn i hate belgian beer. I keep trying stuff put of curiosity. de molen amarillo imperial ipa sucks
I wouldn’t go Belgian for an Imperial IPA. I would go Belgian for a golden, a dark strong, a wit, a dubbel, a tripel, or any number of sours. Planning on visiting there next summer.
Word
What he said. My eventual Belgian beer trip includes 1 day in Dusseldorf to hit up the altstadt. Particularly Uerige.
We’re planning on hitting up Koln so I can enjoy some Kolsch. The one problem is that the girlfriend will want to go to Lindeman’s. My hope is to hit up Westvleteren.
/sigh
Take her to Cantillon for lambic instead.
She doesn’t like the sour beers, just the backsweetened ones. I’m all up for Cantillon (and Fantome, and 3 Fonteinen, and Boon, etc…).
I can see how beer sanctified by monks might react poorly with your digestive system.
A Belgian Imperial IPA sounds like an oxymoron.
IPA and Belgian. Does not compute. Stick to traditional Belgian beer and let Americans make the IPAs.
British ipa is the superior one.
/sigh
I blame international shipping for this incorrect statement…
/looks down at next comment.
Nope. You’re just wrong. Oh well, more for me.
That is not an ipa. Wrong place for somment?
Comment goddamnit.
I also tried a de molen hell and damnation imperial stout. This is nonsense. Beer should not taste of chocolate and vanilla and similar. Also beer should be pale in color. Who the hell inventef dark beer? That being said it is more palatable than the ipa
These are the only two on tap except the wheat beer and wheat beer is not drinkable
Try Chimay. Should be able to find a bottle of that.
I did try. Chimay blue was one of the first fancy beer to make their way to post commie Romania. But i do not remember it well
*squints suspiciously*
Are you sure you really are a beer drinker?
Mostly wine and scotch but beer as well
You literally could not be more wrong. That is peak retard right there.
Dark beer predates pale beer by centuries.
And the ox cart predates the Lamborghini by centuries. Your point?
Maybe you’re not just the beer drinker you thought you were.
Duvel. Start there.
As I sit here looking at my mug bought at Maredsous Abbey. Their cheese was excellent. I hadn’t thought about Maredsous in years until my daughter had an art project and she painted it. Then she asked me where it came from because she had to write a sob story that went with it. That was just earlier this week.
Duvel has a sad.
I’m so sick of the pussification of America. When I drive through the hipster part of town, I’ll see a couple walking down the street and the chick is way more manly than the dude. Only way I can tell it’s a dude is the neckbeard. Those guys all have man buns and chopsticks sticking out of them. Why would a dude do that to himself?
Too much soy.
Up the interglutinal cleft?
Whatever gets one layed I suppose
Betas don’t get laid… They get told they are just best friends and they fantasize about the alpha’s fucking the chick they want… Chucks.
“Chucks”
What did Converse ever do to hurt you, Alex?
Can I show you on the Rufus doll?
I see how you sneaked that one in.
They can never be sure enough that they received proper consent.
When you spend more time primping than a chick, you’re doing it wrong.
This…
All you need is soft hands so you can erm, massage the good parts without causing too much ache.
Pulleeeeeaze. We all saw this story that doxxed Alex.
Et tu, your holiness?
Look. A well-tailored suit is to men what lingerie is to men.
Yummy.
Oh, wait. We were talking about manbuns with chopsticks, weren’t we? Ugh.
… is to WOMEN* what lingerie …
I think you had it right the first time except you left out a word. GAY!
Every woman needs a sassy gay bestie.

Unfortunately this one has died, but we can pretend this is Not Adahn when he posts his articles.
I agree with Moj. Those are some great suits.
Don’t you have a semi-permanent ladyboner for a glamrock guitarist?
I have a semi-permanent ladyboner for this guy, too.
And this one.
I was about to point out that that’s a shit load of fancy primping across all those, until you put up the last one.
You chicks are weird.
Primping for everyday life and primping for one’s occupation are two completely different things.
Not as suave as I’d prefer, but what can you do with the hair, tats, and piercings?
Ordinary looking guy much more attractive in a suit.
I look good in a suit. Well, that’s what the ladies keep telling me…
Pix or it didn’t happen.
Here
Chuck Norris wishes he was me…
Couple years ago I attended a concert at one of the hipster venues in new/old downtown Vegas wearing an athletic tee and khakis and felt like I was on a different planet. There’ve always been dandies among us, but at least they had better taste.
I am going to call bull on that. They look stupid today, but they looked stupid back in the day as well.
… stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni.
I thought that he stuck a finger up his ass and called it fuckeroni?
lol whoops wrong link meant to be this
Ummmmmm …
WTF Chuck Norris has permanently seized my clipboard!
I’ll type it out
Herb Tarlek.
I’ll say at least this much for the ’70s fashion trends, they were… distinctive.
Most of the younger girls I meet feel the same way deep down. They have been brought up to believe that masculine men are toxic rapists, yet they crave it biologically. It leads to some serious unhappiness and internal conflict.
Stop meeting young girls perv
Yeah, leave that to OMWC!
OMWC’s girls aren’t old enough to crave men at all.
Agreed. I’m trying to teach my college-attending son that and he’s getting it. There is hope!
Didn’t man buns come from that stupid Euro sport divegrass?
Euro fag-ball I believe.
Redundant.
Gareth Bale is the only man-bun soccer player I am aware of. Zlatan maybe, but I’ll let you talk to him face to face.
Why would a dude do that to himself?
Truth in advertising.
Anyone want to tell him about the Spartans? Or the Mohawks? Or the hair-product-laden, intricately dreadlocked vikings?
I’ll just leave this here.
Things are about to go from bad to worse in Hong Kong. I feel for those people and pray they stay safe in the coming days and weeks. But I fear for the worst. – what are the odds chiana sees the error of their ways and backs off?
That is the correct analysis.
Chiana? one of the few women who is plain, until you bind her breasts and put her in corpse makeup.
Somebody is gonna lose their license over this and an insurance company is gonna wish they hadn’t written that malpractice policy. Yikes!
When Obama was elected, McConnell said he wanted to make sure he was a one term president. He was treated like the devil for that. The dems want to try and imprison Trump for doing nothing and refuse to accept his first term to the point of lying and scheming and putting him through a show trial. How anyone can stand by and allow this, just shows the depravity of people these days. Including Amash.
politicians gonna politic…
“How anyone can stand by and allow this”
The politicians are corrupt and/or cowardly and the people are complacent.
Well, when the political class has created a bureaucracy that can destroy your ability to make a living, I can see why so many people decide just to not stick their head up and be whack-a-moled Q….
Too late for plan b at this point.

Mah first Gilmore!
Good morning Sloopy and crew!
Thanks for the lynx. Rappaport seems to break an awful lot of fake news, so I’m skeptical. But it would be fun to watch.
In other sports news, the Wild spotted the Sharks 4 in the first and still managed to only lose 5-6. So, progress? This year’s draft class looks to be pretty impressive, so I’m gonna get comfortable with a last place finish. I’m now rooting for the Wings, Devils, Sens and Kings to rally and have a good season. Go get ’em boys!
This has been a shit show of a week. I’m glad it’s nearly over.
Well of course it has been a shit show of a week. You voiced aloud support for the Red Wings!
*hisses, spits in corner, throws salt over right shoulder, makes sign of the cross*
You should, too, Swissy. Your Hawks can use all the young talent they can get. The first 3 (?) picks are weighted lottery, but the next couple are based on shit records. Supposedly this is a 5-6 deep draft.
Long term contacts are stupid, stupid, stupid. At least your guys got a couple Cups out of it.
RE: Texts.
How is that even a story? If getting unusual texts is enough to send you into an emotional tail spin, you need antipsychotics.
Also: “I got weird texts from my ex-GF last night asking if I wanted her to wake up her husband so we could talk” WTF?
Yeah the delayed delivery is the weird part here…
I actually Got one but it was all business. Actually threw me off for a bit.
I would think getting a text from, say, a significant other that is no longer among the living could be quite traumatic.
You all know Hong Kong was done the day China took over the lease right?
20 years ago the troops would have already rolled in. I still think China is in a bind here.
#metoo
Kind of hard to play footsie across Eurasia and Africa with this tempting spot of trouble on your doorstep.
Yep. I, knowing very little of what goes on in China first hand, fully expected a few hours of street executions and mass commitment to mental health institutions.
The entire world was expecting it far sooner than this.

Billionaire businessman Michael Bloomberg is strongly considering entering the race for the US Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
The ex-New York City mayor is concerned the current field of candidates is not good enough to beat Donald Trump in the 2020 election, his adviser says.
——-
In a statement, Howard Wolfson said: “We now need to finish the job and ensure that Trump is defeated.
“But Mike is increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well positioned to do that.
“Based on his record of accomplishment, leadership and his ability to bring people together to drive change, Mike would be able to take the fight to Trump and win,” Mr Wolfson said.
I have good ideas. And people like me, gosh darn it. They love it when I tell them what to do.
…don’t fake ham it up for the cameras…
Stuart Smalley remembers
I may consider a vote for Schultz, but not this weenie.
So Bloomers has entered the race. I heard him described on the local news as a “centrist”. Yeah, sure. Apparently Liz of the Fauxhicans and Grandpa Gulag have already taken shots at himfor for his billionaire status. I guess there is only room for millionaires on Team Blue. Anyway, why not shake it up a bit more with Barry’s wingman.
Holder did very publicly flirt with running in 2020 before, even making the rounds to travel to some early presidential states for key speeches, but he ultimately announced earlier this year he would not run. In March 2019, he came out and said he would not be running in 2020 and that he planned to instead focus his efforts on redistricting efforts.
But now, given how weak the rest of the Democrat presidential field is in 2020, and with other top talent showing that the water is definitely still warm, Holder appears to be reconsidering and thinking about getting into the race after all.
Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson reported late Thursday evening that Holder has been discussing a late entrance into the crowded Democrat field with a handful of close advisers and political consultants
I can’t think of anyone more qualified. And Jeffery Epstein didn’t kill himself.
Has that phrase become an auto-ban on Twitter yet, a la “Learn to code?”
Epstein memes are now an auto suspension on Monster Hunter International facebook page. Because it gets boring when every post is the same damn thing.
Get classy and go all Latin with the phrase: Epstein non occidit se epsum or “ENOSI”
Didnt Bloomberg and Trump flip flop parties since 1990?
Correct.
Tho’ Trump at heart is a Dick Gephardt type.
Bloomberg reminds me of a less stable and intelligent Ross Perot, but that may just be the physical similarity. Gnome rights!
One of my favorites.
I dont see Bobby Jones in the picture.
Correctamundo!
Then why did you reference him?
What about baseball nutjob Milton Bradley?

Even sacred and somber symbols meant to honour our dead is not safe from narcissists who make everything about themselves.
On the positive side, my 14 year-old brought this up to me. I asked her what did she and her friends think about it? And they to the final person thought it was stupid and ridiculous. The Poppy and dead soldiers shouldn’t be politicized and they feel the gay agenda is being rammed down their throats at school.
I’ve read literature Gen Z was going to be the ‘not millennial’ generation and would likely lean conservative. Keep doing shit like this and they WILL become conservative.
I though the poppy thing was originally a sign one had donated money to a veterans charity not just rememberence like these days
They were sold as a fund raiser for veterans charities.
Are. See: VFW.
The crepe paper ones from the American Legion are superior to the VFW plastic ones.
Yeah, my kids were always given some $$ to get one in front of the super market. They were also instructed to only buy from the old vet who has some Marine gear and tell him Semper Fi.
Better have exact change, though.
Marines can make change. 30 Rounds in a magazine minus 3 dead gomers (hat tip to the banned words list) leaves 27 rounds.
At least Thanksgiving is coming up soon so the left can pivot to pissing all over that and leave Remembrance/Veterans Day alone for another year.
Rainbow tofurkey?
Oh God. You’re giving them ideas.
Her point that the red poppy is for every soldier, no matter their personal differences is correct.
Mr Bloomberg was a Wall Street banker who went on to found the financial publishing empire that bears his name.
A philanthropist, he has donated millions of dollars to educational, medical and other causes.
Yeah, “other causes” like voiding he Constitution.
Mr Bloomberg was a thief who used his loot to become a broadcast liar. A narcissistic sadist he has spent millions of dollars spreading misery among the poor and downtrodden.

As the pendulum swings.
Maybe this ship of fools is self-righting.
Wishful thinking is wishful
Host Chris Hayes asked, “Do you see the process as possibly ending in the removal of the president of the United States? Is that a live possibility in your mind?”
Nadler answered, “I think it is a possibility. I don’t know how to estimate the possibility, but I would certainly say it’s not a zero possibility. … I think it’s possible, depending how strong the evidence is, and depending on other political considerations, that maybe the Senate will act to remove the president. But I’m not going to give an estimate, and I can’t estimate that, but I will say I don’t think it’s a zero possibility. That’s a very cynical view that it’s a zero possibility. I also, to be political about it, I think some Republican senators may take a look at the election results the other day and start thinking, maybe I should be a little more fair and not dismissive.”
It looks like Team Blue is prepared to hang themselves with this nonsense, unlike Jeffery Epstein, who was murdered.
They are desperate. If the IG report contains even a fraction of the things I have heard it will, the democrats are in trouble. The Obama admin basically will be accused – with credible evidence for a change – of criminal behavior that made Nixon’s wildest dreams look tame to help Clinton steal an election. The massive three letter agency bureaucracies will come under heavy fire and numerous top men’s careers will end with potential jail time. The ruling class will be exposed as not just corrupt and inept, but callous and downright evil. And while team blue has no problem pretending their shit don’t stink, this much baggage will kill them for the foreseeable future(and hand bad orange man the 2020 election). Hence the desperation and the suicidal approach they have chosen.
The impeachment is on a very short window of time. If it doesn’t work they’re gonna be boned.
So npr is donating about 70% of news to it.
It’s a desperate, last ditch PR campaign intended to magically somehow allow them to get rid of Trump, and thus prevent this shit from destroying them, or barring that, give their agents in what passes for the media enough crap to keep peddling lies that will give them cover because they create doubt. I suspect neither will work, and they will be taking it up the ass for the foreseeable future. Not that this will slow down the decline and fall of this republic now that we have a couple of generations that have been thought socialism is cool and that they have the right to free shit at other people’s expense (while they have no personal responsibility themselves to anyone)…
The massive three letter agency bureaucracies will come under heavy fire and numerous top men’s careers will end with potential jail time. The ruling class will be exposed as not just corrupt and inept, but callous and downright evil. </em
This is why I hold zero hope of it actually materializing. Granted, if Trump can pull that off, I wouldn't be sad.
If we don’t check the 3 letter agencies now and here, then we can kiss the republic goodbye. The weaponized bureaucracy Obama created was created to make sure the elite class would not have to worry about the plebes getting tired of being boned by this useless class of credentialed inept fucks and trying to hold them accountable. If the 3 letter agencies manage to get away with playing defense for these fucks, then we are done.
If we don’t check the 3 letter agencies now and here, then we can kiss the republic goodbye.
That ship sailed a long time ago. At least as far back as J. Edgar Hoover. It might look like Obama weaponized the bureaucracy, but it was already long before that. The thing is that for the longest time, they didn’t have anyone who they felt really threatened by. Bush? Clinton? really? But Trump is not “one of them”, so that is why now the deep state has come out of the shadows.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
“…Republican senators may take a look at the election results the other day and start thinking, maybe I should be a little more fair and not dismissive.”
I don’t see how election results are relevant to any criminal proceeding? Dems want to play both sides of this. They want to argue that Trump is a super criminal and that he is the worst of the worst when it comes to criminals. But The impeachment is a political process so they shouldn’t have to follow any standard rules of trials and investigations.
Worst meter maid ever.

WTF? Who walks around with a bottle of acid?
Someone looking to actually use it on someone else for the thrill?
Sounds like he had a plan to do this. More chemicals found at his house.
Shithead being a shithead, send the dude to jail.
Acid attacks have been a thing for a few years over in Europe.
Proof of vibrant multiculturalism, I believe.
A gunsmith?
And the run on guns/accessories begins.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam may be vowing to pass gun bans and more when lawmakers return to Richmond for the 2020 session in a few weeks, but in the meantime he’s going to end up selling a lot of guns across the state. On today’s Bearing Arms’ Cam & Co., gun shop owner Scott Ayers from Farmville Sporting Goods joins me to talk about how gun owners are already reacting to the loss of the legislature and the upcoming onslaught of gun control bills. From AR-15’s to suppressors, residents are buying up pretty much everything Northam is hoping to ban.
That’s not good news for the governor when it comes to predicting how many Virginians will comply with his proposed gun and magazine bans. I doubt the men and women visiting Farmville Sporting Goods, for instance, are buying 20-round magazines because they only want to use them for a few months. It looks to me like many Virginians are making a decision not to comply with law that would strip them of their lawfully owned arms.
Luckily I don’t really need to make any purchases. But I do have a rather dodgy boat that I’ll be taking out soon.
The next state to see a mass exodus?
Not with that much government largesse coming out of DC.

HK is going to be on fire soon
They make good stuff but pricey.

*Gag*
HK. BECAUSE YOU SUCK. AND WE HATE YOU.
A classic.
That’s awesome.
Yep – although I like my HK91 (despite not having fired in 15 years – thanks NJ) and still want to play with a Mark 23. If the commie sissies hadn’t given up 30 years ago, maybe we would all be buying G11s.
Back when I did martial arts, the sparring gear from Fist and other police suppliers was vastly better than what you could get from martial arts suppliers. Extremely pricey tho, as you would expect from someone who is marketing to people who aren’t spending their own money.
Yep, that’s HK’s demographic.
If you want quality German engineering at a reasonable price, go with Walther.

Was Al Gore or that stupid kid that thinks unless other people get to living in caves again the world will end, not available for a quote?
Al Gore came and talked at Memphis State when he was still the Senator from TN. (I think he was running for VP at the time).
Most “meh” pol I have ever met. If his daddy hadn’t been a big time pol, Al would be living in a double-wide working at a convenience store. He is the Mark Dayton (aka Minnesoda’s Gov. Mumbles) of the Mid South.
I don’t think I could be bothered to watch it, but would watching An Inconvenient Truth” now be a comedy?
Comedies are funny. That thing was torture then for anyone that had more than two working neurons, and is basically really shitty fiction today.
Perhaps in a MST3K sort of handling of the situation? Multiple people that have high snark skillz with a few drinks.
That would actually improve the quality and scientific value of that piece of fiction for sure man.
Oh, that’s golden.
So the whole exercise was a just an internet poll. Ret*rds.
Failure
The Berlin Wall was torn down 30 years ago. The seismic event sent shock waves across Europe, and sparked hopes for millions of East Germans.
Jubilant crowds stormed the concrete blockade dividing the East and the West on November 9, 1989, just minutes after the Communist German Democratic Republic (GDR) announced that travel restrictions would be lifted for East Germans. The propaganda and fear were replaced with a sense of freedom and unity.
But three decades later, an invisible barrier still stretches across Germany. It is slowly disintegrating, but it’s still there.
——-
Berenberg Bank’s chief economist Holger Schmieding said the remaining difference boils down to one particular issue: most of Germany’s richest people live in the West.
Schmieding said that while east German cities are approaching those of the West in terms of living standards, “the big exception to that is that the top, the big companies, the high income, is missing in the East.”
Inequality is everywhere. Bring back the Stasi. They’ll hammer down the nails who stick up.
Collectivism is about providing social justice by making everyone live in a shared misery…
Lots of the usual horseshit about how much better women had it in the good old days.
Never change, CNN.
Nothing made for better sex than having to fuck behind a curtain created by hanging up some bed sheets in the 3 family, 4 generation 3 room apartment 24+ people shared, and the women that experienced that pine for those days to come back!
Uffda. Had no idea shylock was a bad term. And no idea that it was anti-semetic. I sort of vaguely could have told you the term came from some Shakespeare play, but not which one or who exactly Shylock was.
In my defense, I grew up somewhere with very, very, very few minorities. I didn’t have the opportunities to grow and nurture racist attitudes like the big city kids.
*raises hand*
what does shylock mean then?
I think it was a name of a (((merchant))) in Othelo.
A loanshark, someone in the “shy” business.
Somehow different from Shyster – one of (((them))) as a lawyer instead of a merchant?
Merchant of Venice. Great ending. The forcible conversion.
I get the feeling you’re a Shakespeare fan.
Love Shakespeare. I was thinking about doing another glib piece on Merchant of Venice. Did one on Hamlet a while ago. It should be in the archives.
I loosely Hamlet in my first book.
I loosely RETOLD* Hamlet …
Dammit. Twice in a row. I’m going back to bed.
Just stay away from the curtains.
Everybody died.
The End.
Laertes is the one that bugs me. Everybody else had it coming to a degree. He just made a mistake that I probably would’ve made in his shoes.
In Sons of Anarchy, when it looked like Peggy Bundy was going to drown Ophelia, I was impressed with their dedication to the conceit.
Ophelia din do nuffin’.
Minnesotans so ignorant
Never know if it is two n two t or both in that word
Minnesoda…
At least that is how I keep hearing people there pronounce it before they Uffda me about the Viking’s woes.
If you don’t like spelling that word, how about this one: Finndians.
Those are the offspring of the Finns who married Indians that live up near the rez. Right up there on the list of worst ideas ever. Finndians got all the war like tendencies of the Finns with the inability to hold their liquor from the Indians.
That is the sort of home made minorities we have to work with because we can’t convince any of (((them))) that -20 below weather is a good thing.
I guess that’s why the Finns aren’t Scandinavian – they aren’t pussies like the Scandis?
Maybe if the Scandis had to go pillage tough peoples, they would have developed into better warriors?
But when you are stealing from the Brits and French (the real JV) it is hard not to play down to your competition.
If I ever met one of (((them))) IRL before I met OMWC, I don’t know about it. Mormons have a cultural crush on Judaism, and to some extent so do evangelicals, so I didn’t know people hated (((them))), much less that (((they))) are the world’s whipping boy.
From this I understand you loved jews until you met OMWC
I r a righter. I rite gud and cleer.
Such a sweet fella. Always handing out candy to the young….
Well…yeah.
OMWC bringing back blood libel one meetup at a time?
Its not a libel if its true.
Even with some Orthodox communities around where I grew up, going to Catholic school really minimized meeting (((them))) until the days of the local BBS’s and going out to shows on a regular basis.
The last company I worked for was owned and operated by (((them))) and about six or seven of (((them))) were employees. Just white people who may or may not have a stricter diet than mine far as I saw.
And yeah, evangelicals have a huge crush on Jews. Growing up, it was hammered into my head that it was our duty to preserve and protect the Jewish race because they’re God’s People while simultaneously believing that they’re all condemned to Hell for not accepting Christ. Made for a weird dynamic.
I’ve always been perplexed how any Christian who’s read Romans 11 could come to that conclusion.
I believe the interpretation I was fed as a child was that the Jews prior to the Rapture who didn’t convert to Christianity were as damned as anybody else for consciously rejecting Christ as the Messiah. After the Rapture, the remaining Jews will all convert, and along with the remaining gentiles who convert will become the Tribulation Saints who battle the Anti-Christ at Armageddon.
Can the Mormons map Amerindian tribes directly to the Israeli ones?
So, are the Cherokee from Dan or Gad or what?
I know you are joking, but it wasn’t that all tribes went there it was one family, so only the one tribe the family belonged to would be represented.
I’m not an expert but a few archeologist think the 12 tribes were back ported by the bible to make sense of differing tribal groups in Cannan at the time. here is a good lecture from the Oriental Institute
Manasseh.
Mojeaux, I’m with you. I don’t think I met a Jew until college (maybe, don’t specifically recall) or law school. I also don’t recall every running into anything anti-Semitic growing up in my apparently Judenfrei small town in Texas. That had to wait until I moved to the East Coast to go to college.
Keep in mind, though, my complete apathy about your racial or religious background or leanings means that I could well have just not noticed any of (((them))) before law school.
I always offer hot Jewish chicks a pound of flesh.
Pfft… Mine is 3 pounds…
I was talking about weight, but whatever gets you to sleep earlier.
Alex is an Owl? Whooo Kneeeew?
You really should get those tumorous growths checked.
None of that man.. all 100% grade A beef.
You cut off a Bull’s cock and sewed it on? Dude that is gross.
Good News!
The problem with your offer Porky isn’t the amount of flesh…
I had a female friend (no, nothing happened, purely just friends) back in Pensacola who was from a small Minnesota town. A group of us from our AVA class went to New Orleans on a 96, and I still laugh thinking back to her stunned reaction when we exited the interstate and started cruising around town – “Oh my god, I’ve never seen so many black people in my life!”
Reverse happened to me. When I got a job out of college one of the perks was that they paid to relocate us from Memphis back to Minnesoda. Part of that was that a fancy ass realtor drove us around to look for apartments.
The realtor was used to dealing with senior managers and partners who were relocating so she kept driving us to super fancy/expensive apartments. Before we went out with her the second day, we had grabbed one of those cheap apartment finder guides and told her to go to the cheap places we found there.
The place we finally found was in a very black neighborhood (Brooklyn Park for you Minnesodans following along at home). The realtor was amazed that we would live there. You could tell she wanted to blurt out “Don’t you see all the black guys standing on the corner?”
We laughed because there were only like 5 black guys just standing around on the corner. Where we lived back in Memphis it would have been at least 15 black guys. Our new neighborhood was way more mixed than the one we had just left.
But growing up? Yeah, I was exactly like your buddy from Minnesoda.
Here’s another fact.
Shakespeare straight up invented the name ‘Jessica’ for a Jewish-y name in Merchant of Venice.
Update on dogs
Ours is doing well, the fur isn’t falling out in any alarming rate, but I’m not sure it’s rebounding yet. No update on blood work.
My parents dogs ran off two days ago. They stayed out overnight and yesterday around noon, mookie showed up covered in mud and very tired. He’s the avatar pic.
His mom wasn’t with him, and has not returned. It was very cold the last two nights, and it snowed last night. I’m fairly sure she hurt her leg or something on their travels and couldn’t make it home. They went past the electric fence, and we aren’t sure where exactly they got to. Pretty sure he stayed with her for a while.
Dad went out both nights looking, but she never barks or whimpers.
Pretty sucky, and it’s really got me down.
Mom called a pet psychic, so I’m not sure she’s handling this too well.
Prayers for doggos
Oh, man. Sorry to hear that, Doom.
I hope she makes it back.
Me too.
Dad sent a picture of him last night looking pretty depressed laying in front of her bed.
Hoping for the best, but part of me thinks the worst.
Leash the son and let him lead the way?
Tried to, he just kinda follows dad at that point. And there was no snow when they took off, so tracking isn’t really possible.
I just want her to be found.
I’m so sorry. Best wishes for a positive outcome!
Someone won’t take a hint.
During a call with supporters Thursday night, the former Texas congressman said that he “absolutely” plans to stay involved in politics moving forward.
“Any of you out there who have run for office before and come up short — some part of you wants to go deep into a cave and never come out again,” he said during the call. “That’s a natural part of the reaction, but I don’t think you get that pass in a democracy.”
“This country is counting on all of us, and if any one of us fails to do our part to the best of our ability, then we will fail this country and the generations that follow that are counting on us,” he continued.
O’Rourke said even though he’s still figuring out what his next steps are, he vowed to help Democratic candidates across the country and to continue to address his signature issues such as gun violence.
“I’m going to do everything that I can, and what form that takes and in what capacity I don’t know,” he said. “But certainly it will involve supporting great candidates all over this country from school board trustee to the next nominee for the presidency of the Democratic Party.”
The former Texas congressman also once again thanked supporters and emphasized the need for Democrats to come together to defeat President Trump in 2020.
“All of us have to commit to get behind the nominee from this party to make sure that she or he is successful against Donald Trump and then to make sure that once they become president, they help to heal this very divided country,” he said.
The country will only heal when Democrats are in total control. The current schism, of course, has absolutely nothing to do with divisive Democrat rhetoric/propaganda and generally anti-American positions on just about everything as they lurch into full leftism.
“Any of you out there who have run for office before and come up short — some part of you wants to go deep into a cave and never come out again,”
That would be the last shreds of your self respect fighting for survival….
“I have zero chance of getting a real job.”
Who?
Stupid tram. I could have walked if i knew it took so long
But…but PUBLIK TRANZPORTASHUN will save Gaia!
Mornin’ Glibbies. The reset back to standard time seems to have flipped a switch in me, too. I’ve been up earlier and actually Getting Shit Done! which I haven’t done for months because depression and despair. The boxes around the house, slowly packing up, purging, selling things, taking things back to their rightful owners (see: tons of boxes of other people’s china), forcing me to accept my crafting limitations (time, no more interest, etc.) has been really good for my soul.
I love getting up extra early and getting my stuff done!
It feels great. Every time I fell out of it, I think it really did have an effect on my disposition.
How much China do you have??
I have 5 banker’s boxes of my mother’s, which I am going to ship to my brother, who wants it because nobody else does, including my mother. I have 4 other enormous boxes that belong to my aunt. She is a hoarder and won’t get rid of her stuff, so apparently because I have a nearly emoty storage room, she needs to help fill it.
For me, extra early is 7:00 or 8:00. I have been in a depressed funk since June, going to bed at 4:00 or 5:00 a.m., and wasn’t getting anything done except writing a novel I was using to escape from my life. Or else I was getting up and sitting in my recliner wasting time on the internet.
I’m slowly getting my groove back.
If ‘Saint’ John Legend’s so worried about inappropriate song lyrics, why doesn’t he leave Baby It’s Cold Outside alone and rewrite all the far more sexist and misogynist filth spewed by his rapper friends?
He was the most powerful man on set, the star and therefore effectively, the boss.
She was an impressionable 21-year-old model hired to work alongside him.
Ms Teigen told Cosmo several years later: ‘I walked into John’s dressing room to meet him and he was ironing in his underwear. I said, ‘you do your own ironing?’ He said, ‘Of course I do.’ I gave him a hug.’
After the shoot, she says they went back to his hotel room and ‘hooked up’.
Hmmm.
I’m not an expert on the whiter-than-white standards of super-woke behavior, but by Legend and Teigen’s own yardstick, isn’t every part of this story highly ‘problematic’?
Piers Morgan sucks, but this is decent trolling.
Yes he does, and his stance on gun control is infuriating, but this is a good bit. Never give these fuckers so much as an inch, and attack them at every turn. No quarter.
There’s a lot of people who seem unable to understand that, if you don’t “allow” for possibly evil people outside the government to have guns, you will ensure that only evil people within the government have them. Moreover, the latter is too abstract a fear, too distant from what they know, while the former is reified. Despite all of the claims of movements like #BLM, at the end of the day they’re privileged kids who are more afraid of being gunned down by one of their own than an oppressive government.
WTF?
Given the imagined stakes, when the Cold War did finally end on terms favorable to the United States, Kennedy’s political, intellectual and media offspring were quick to see in the outcome the hand of God, providence or history. In their preferred reading, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 had rendered a conclusive and irreversible verdict destined to shape the future, with the United States of America empowered to do the shaping. This led, once more, to politics decoupled from reason.
We live today with the consequences of this decoupling: the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11, multiple wars that beg comparison with Vietnam in their folly, and, however obliquely, the bizarre presidency of Donald Trump.
You won’t hear it from any of the candidates vying to succeed Trump, but we are still haunted by our false conception of the Cold War. On the stump, politicians get away with reciting comforting clichés about the imperative of American global leadership. Yet the time for believing such malarkey is long gone.
An essential first step toward recoupling national security policy and reason is to see the Cold War for what it was: not a “long, twilight struggle” ending in victory, but a vast and costly tragedy that inflicted needless suffering, brought humankind absurdly close to extinction, and from which U.S. policymakers have drawn all the wrong lessons.
The anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall offers an occasion not for celebration but for somber and long overdue reflection.
Andrew Bacevich, a contributing writer to Opinion, is president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. His latest book, “The Age of Illusions: How America Squandered its Cold War Victory,” is due out January.
I guess we were wrong about the USSR, and the Iron Curtain. We should have been more accommodating, a been willing to compromise. We should have been willing to accept the best practices of Communism, in order to stave off Trump and inequality. You know, responsible statecraft.
THE WRONG SIDE WON THE COLD WAR!
Neville Chamberlain something something…
I’ve liked some of what I’ve read from Andrew Bacevich about the folly of American empire, but this is just stupid.
Orange man has that effect on way too many people that have been real good posers…
He seems to be arguing that the Cold War was not, in fact, a global conflict. Which is a hell of a thing for a supposed foreign policy expert to say. Particularly one who actually served in Vietnam. The Communists wanted to take over the world. They tried their best to take over the world. That’s not a myth, or propaganda. They failed because the United States stopped them.
I’m amenable to the argument that US policymakers, raised in the Cold War era, have a very hard time switching gears to a post Cold War era. But that doesn’t change what the Cold War was.
Andy, retired colonel, taught at West Point
I totally agree.

Diplomacy Update
Hey everyone, Thanks for those who volunteered to join up. There has been a lot of interest in setting up a Second Game, So that may be coming down the pipeline. Yesterday we had 7 people join up which started the game of. That means players have 2 days to get their initial orders and scheming in. Remember this is a Gentlemens Game so what happens at webDiplomacy stays their, we don’t need this breaking our little family apart.
Players
For this act we have the following players:
Neph: As Mery Old England
Swiss: As Mother Russia
RBS: As Proud France
Trash: As Young italy
Leap: As Haughty Austria
Hyperbole: As the Ancient Ottomans
And in his (her? nah, there are no female libertarians) Glibertarian Debut
Boofer/Biffer: As The Romantic Germans
Boofer is a lurker who accidentally joined up to the game thinking it was a second one. Since he was the 7th player the Game immediately started off. To those who were wait-listed he was very sorry about the confusion, but we’re going to go with it. As Penance he is required to Actually post on Glibs, recive his FUCK OFF TULPAS and say 10 Hail Zardoz’s.
Best of luck, and may the best muppet win.
Except the best one is not in the game.
I guess i missed the followup with the sign up location
Will their be updates made on the game so we can mock the players?
Yup. There should be weekly Update posts, though they will probably take later spots (late Evening and what not, it’s up to the TPTB, but i don’t want this taking precedence over someones much more well thought out articles).
You could also follow along, though you would only be able to see the global press. WebDiplomacy has a Follow option where you can add the game to a watchlist.
Swiss: As Mother Russia
I knew it! So much for steadfast neutrality…
Sweet! I just stocked up on a bunch of mustache wax, so I’m good to go.
So reading comprehension is obviously my strong suit. Apologies to the Yutes who were patiently waiting their turn.
She seems nice.
Christ, what an asshole.
+1
*cups hands around mouth* YOU’RE FROM WESTCHESTER COUNTY, BITCH!
You know (((who else))) has a historically much older presence in Williamsburg?
What a b*tch.
Too bad it isn’t possible to see Tiger and the Bear play each other at the peak of their career, using the same golf equipment. I’ve seen them both play but it is hard to compare given how the game and equipment has changed. I attended both the 1973 and 2013 Opens at Merion and the average play in 2013 was so much better – bunkers hardly matter anymore, and it used to be almost impossible to get a birdie when your drive had landed in the rough. I guess comparisons are difficult in all sports especially baseball where the park dimensions are so different. Imagine Babe Ruth playing today with a juiced up ball (but then today’s pitching is a lot more wicked than it was in the Babe’s day.) Mike Schmidt says he would have had 700 homers for his career, had his home ball park been Wrigley Field and not Philly’s Vet.
Too bad it isn’t possible to see Tiger and the Bear play each other at the peak of their career
Isn’t their a Tom Clancy Novel about this?
*narrows gaze*
I like this guy’s stuff, even if some of his core beliefs are just wrong.

Totally not a narcissist. Just a concerned citizen who wants to show Amerikkka the error of xer ways.
Wait a minute, I’m supposed to do my part to the best of my ability and he can’t figure out his next steps
So this the new TV show, “Dancing with the Rejects” that I’ve heard so much about
Taking the “cybersecurity” training.
I refuse to believe that “vishing” and “smishing” are actually words that anyone has ever used.

Like, with a shovel?
Rant.
You want me to blindly accept your assertion because you started it with, “As a [insert marginalized identity here]”? You gonna plop that down like it’s a straight flush in Texas hold’em and expect me to prostrate myself in obedient fashion? Go fuck yourself. If I couldn’t possible understand your “lived experience”, then why the hell are you still talking. Make an argument or STFU.
Normally, I’d give you the old “racism/sexism etc. is bad, but …” caveat. Nah. It wouldn’t matter if I were a raging racist because my point would still stand; You have to make an argument. Your super special characteristics don’t make you invincible. Even a Nazi deserves an explanation. You are the same as that teenager screaming, “It’s not fair!” and thinking that should be persuasive. It isn’t. Go fuck yourself.
If I can’t question your assertions, then how do I know that you aren’t a total fraud? Would it be possible for a total fraud to use your technique for less than virtuous means? Yes? Then how would I know you aren’t that fraud if I can’t question you? And that power dynamic thing you whip out as a trump card, do you allow others to use that against you? What about the minority of the minority that doesn’t agree with the majority of the minority? Do they get to use it? No? I didn’t think so. Go fuck yourself.
Rant off.
Oh, and good morning. I been drinking.
Do you have a newsletter I can subscribe to?
It’s basically three words every issue.
FUCK YOU TULPA?
Should be law?
Your super special characteristics don’t make you invincible.
Bro… Do you even RPG?
*Golf clap*
Preach!
As a Glibertarian commenter, I must say I agree.
What I think is strange is that the premise behind the “lived experience” shit is almost always some version of, “Because I look like people who’ve had a tough time of it, you shouldn’t hold me to the same standards as someone else.” In other words, something like a genetic expertise in victimhood. It’s the opposite of, “As a cardiologist, I know a thing or two about heart disease,” or, “As someone who is 7′ 1″, I would know what’s on top of the refrigerator.”
Exactly. I left out a line: I’d listen to a lady that says, “As an active hooker, I can give you a few tips on how to remove those mustard stains from your cloth napkins.” She’s using her experience to help with laundry day and I’m gonna understand her more, not less. It drives me crazy because I’ve spend decades trying to understand the people around me who have very different “life experiences”, but so does every human who isn’t me.
Mustard, huh? Must be one of those fuzokuka things that we never hear about in the west.
Right. Even if you’re only talking about discrimination, why couldn’t I say, “As a straight, white, middle-class male, I have more on my plate than managing the emotions of strangers,” or, “As a cishetero shitlord, let me just say that I know exactly what was in my mind when I crossed the street to the opposite side of you and it was that I was parked on that side, not that I don’t like walking near black teenagers.” Why is one “lived experience” more relevant or more authentic or whatever than any other?
Why is one “lived experience” more relevant or more authentic or whatever than any other?
Because, as a cishetero shitlord or a straight, white, middle-class male, you are irredeemable, tainted with original sin, so you count for less, untermensch.
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHITTY McSHITSHITSHIT
Why is one “lived experience” more relevant or more authentic or whatever than any other?
I’m actually starting to come around to this. Not in the discriminatory sense that progs use it to justify victimhood, but because there are enough topmen dictating down shit they’ve never experienced or had to undergo. Here’s some examples:
The lived experience of the single mother who just took down multiple assailants with an AR is much more important to me than a politician’s stance on gun control who lives with 24/7 armed security. That mother’s lived experience is way more authentic and relevant when it comes to the gun control debate.
The “lived experience” of a patient with a chronic disease who lives crippled with pain is completely more relevant when it comes to the War on Opioids than a politician who has a private doctor and prescribes anything the patient wants on call.
The “lived expereince” of a daughter who’s sick father died while waiting for the NHS to treat him is way more relevant to the NHS discussion than the opinion of a wealthy Brit who flies to America for treatment.
I have said it before, but I cannot accept the notion that slavery is a more important social factor to people who’ve grown up with no living memory of it than people who lived through it (or suffered and died under it). In the pre-woke times, the proper riposte would’ve been something along the lines of, “Christ died for your sins, you didn’t do shit”.
Mark Steyn breaks down the musical vandalism of John Legend in hilarious fashion.

Australia’s women footballers get equal pay in landmark deal
The men’s team will still be able to earn more overall in prize money, however, as the World Cup rewards are much higher for the men’s game. The total prize pool for the 2018 men’s World Cup stood at $400 million, while the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France was about $30 million.
So when the women finish 5th and the men 34th, there will still be plenty of bitching.
I sort of like the idea of equalizing the pay for the US Men’s and Women’s teams too. Of course, I’d equalize them by slashing the pay of both squads to minimum wage. I doubt though that that would make the whingers happy.
Ugh.
Men’s and women’s soccer get exactly the same amount of attention and money from me.

Last month I asked @BernieSanders if his wealth tax could potentially diminish charitable spending:
“When you raise wages to a living wage, when you end homelessness in America, when you end hunger … Poor people are not going to need charity. They’re going to have dignity” 1/2
Is Dignity a socialist dog whistle for: “We’re gonna starve your asses”?
An MST paraphrase leaps to mind – “Uh, Mr S., what would you know about ‘dignity’?”
The guy who was actually kicked out of a commune for being too lazy.
It’s rainbows and unicorns from here on out people! Let the glorious new
SovietAmerican man come forth!Sanders despises personal charity. Always has.
Charity and dignity aren’t mutually exclusive, and any person who thinks dignity is measured in personal wealth should do some soul searching.
Looking good there, Slim!
“End homelessness”. I can’t imagine a more terrifying goal.
My house is 2,500 sq ft, family of 5 plus a dog and a cat. I should meet the maximum sq footage allotment per person.
Do you really need both a dog AND a cat?
Dinner on Sunday and Wednesday.
Once the cat goes that is probably it for cats. We don’t have a basement anymore so there is no good place to put the litter box. Plus it would be nice to not be woken up by a cat standing on me demanding to be fed.
Try having 2 bother you at 4am. One, the male, will eventually give up. The other, the female is far more persistent.
Why yes, yes I do.
How do you tweet this with a straight face?
I’m sure if you’re a shameless, self-unaware moron it’s fairly easy.
The backlash to all of this is going to be massive, and very, very bad for homosexuals in general. I don’t think they understand the history of reactionary politics as well as they think they do.
The country is blue from now on.
/2012 Democrat.
I’m sure Ernst Thalmann felt the same way in the early 1920’s.
Unfortunately, though, Virginia will be.
I think we’ll see more and more that sensible homosexuals will start to reject the alphabet soup designation so as not to get dragged down by the freak show.
^This. I think the Dems in particular have really, really overestimated the degree to which the “homosexual community” (God that’s a cringe-worthy phrase) votes as a bloc nowadays. Of the gay people I know and have known I would actually say a majority are if not conservative then certainly not lockstep Progressives.
I think they’ve overestimated the average gay man’s desire to be categorized with a bunch of weirdos now that we’ve gone from gay and lesbian to LGB to LGBT to the dizzying array of alphabet soup designations.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I was never bothered by the LGBT(+) formulation. It is not until the radicals took over*, who it is worth noting are generally not the same people as the group they are claiming to speak for, that it got out of hand. I don’t have a problem being welcoming to people of all shapes and sizes. But I will not bow down to any of them, and nor should they to me.
* = This is a controversial topic to say the least. There have always been radicals, and the (older) radicals would say they were the backbone of the movement when more milquetoast, straight-acting, or just generally “can pass” people became more common. I’m not old enough to have experienced the early post-Stone Wall era, never mind pre-SW, so I can’t speak to what happened then. But I am old enough to remember when trans people had a seat at the table, but the crazies didn’t get to use them as an excuse to go bugnuts.
When I first came to Japan, a buddy and me were acting like drunk fools on the platform. Loud, obnoxious. An older-timer expat came up to us. “You guys look like you’re having a fun time. You really should cool it, though. Most of these people are just coming home from work.” He was right and we listened. If a Japanese person had said something, we probably wouldn’t have listened. Sometimes you gotta patrol your own.
I don’t know where this ends. Homosexuals (and predominantly-homo bisexuals) are too small of a minority to stave off persecution by numbers alone. Despite the notion behind “only Nixon can go to China” we are going to get vilified the more we speak up against the radical trans-delusionists. I’m already seeing some worrying signs of “there’s no such thing as gay” from the alphabet movement. They don’t want acceptance, indeed they equate it with bigotry, they want endorsement. There are plenty of (predominantly older) trans people who aren’t assholes, aren’t basketcases, and who get along just fine with cisgender straights and gays. While they don’t owe the rest of us anything, if anyone can fight this fight, it’s going to have to be them. At least until either the intersectional nonsense loses its currency or some new fault line is created.
They don’t want acceptance, indeed they equate it with bigotry, they want endorsement.
Well, this is consistent with the “shoot the wounded and prisoners” approach that has been the hallmark of the sore winners in the culture wars.
Another observation I have made before: once an minority group achieves mainstream acceptance, a good many of them don’t know when to quit. Persecution is a terrible thing and we’re good to be rid of it. But its absence does not make life magically perfect. That there are still myriad reasons for being unhappy, unfulfilled, stressed out, tired, sick, or otherwise suffering besides your identity is a concept too far for some of them. Yet that is precisely what acceptance is about: joining the rest of humanity as a full member. To the extent life sucks, it sucks for everybody. There is never going to be a magic wand to wave to fill the emptiness in your heart. That is up to you and no one else can give it to you.
^^^This. If you say all your problems are because you are persecuted, then you will always think you are being persecuted, even if you are super privileged. Life sucks. A great deal of whats wrong in the world is due to people running away from that fact.
then you will always think you are being persecuted, even if you are super privileged
What you might call toxic confirmation bias. On display whenever American college kids, who could hardly be more privileged without being hereditary god-kings, are protesting oppression.
This particular turn of phrase gave me a delightful chuckle my man.
Nonsense. Science has proven that the Gay Gene is closely correlated with the Progressive Gene.
Black trans and cis women, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary people are the backbone of our democracy
Warren has that ..03% demographic locked up for the election.
The funny thing is that she probably doesn’t even after doing that.
11,001 scientists agree.
Black trans and cis women, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary people are the backbone of our democracy
That sounds very honest and in no way pandering.
“backbone of our democracy”?
That might be the dumbest thing I’ve heard all year. And I’ve read Scruffy’s derp dive findings.
Back bone connects to the neck bone
Now hear the word of the lord!
native american blood makes one braver and such one can tweet the truth without fear
She’s the totem pole of our democracy.
I literally burst out laughing at that.
Wow.
our democracy
-_____-
And a fraction of a percent of the population is the backbone of the country? Pander if you must, but I would go with “working people are the backbone of our country.” You know, encompasses the productive people whose property you wish to steal.
“When you raise wages to a living wage, when you end homelessness in America, when you end hunger … Poor people are not going to need charity. They’re going to have dignity” 1/2
Lay off the paint thinner, Bernie.
“Everything within the State, everything for the State, nothing against the State.”
When the collective owns everything, charity isn’t even theoretically possible.
Black trans and cis women, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary people are the backbone of our democracy
Wot?
Well, if that parses as (black trans) + (cis women) + (GNC) + (adorable little enbies) then yeah, you’re probably over 50% thanks to the second term.
If that parses as black*(no dudes) then lolz.
I read it as black trans and black women.
Remember, too many white women voted for Trump, so they are not of the Body.
Demented fucks spouting demented shitz…
FACT CHECK: WOULD THE WEALTH OF EVERY BILLIONAIRE IN AMERICA KEEP THE GOVERNMENT RUNNING FOR LESS THAN 8 MONTHS?
Verdict: False
Forbes has identified more billionaires since 2016, however, and their current estimated net worths could now fund the government longer than eight months.
There were $4 trillion in federal outlays in FY 2017, according to CBO. Using a simple average, it cost $2.7 trillion to fund the government for eight months. Forbes reported that there were 565 billionaires in 2017 worth a collective $2.8 trillion. While their estimated net worths could together fund the government for a full eight months, it wouldn’t have covered the outlays through the ninth month.
The CBO calculated $4.1 trillion in FY 2018 outlays, which still equates to $2.7 trillion for eight months. The 585 U.S. billionaires Forbes identified in 2018 were worth $3.1 trillion combined, which could cover a whole nine months – a cost of $3.1 trillion.
Even Snopes would have a hard time rating this one false.
That’s the estimate of wealth. And it’s not really liquid.
My fuck.
Yeah, if you sold those assets en masse, they would sell for a lot less than their valuation. You’d be lucky to get a month’s worth of liquid cash out of it, and then that would all be squandered because, despite all these “plans”, nobody is going to make the government stop being inefficient, corrupt, and wasteful. Or to pull out an old joke, “what’s the difference between the office of Waste, Fraud, and Abuse and the rest of the government?”
See the Fake News has wraught on us?!? Everyone knows that the government functioning for 8 months would mean Armgeddon. But functioning for 9 months would be A OK.
And FY2 would be fine! Just don’t think about it!
Overweight people have an over-eating problem, not an exercise problem is as to the government has an over-spending problem not a bringing in money problem.
This is ridiculous. Whoever is making the claim is basing it on an increase in the net worth of billionaires since the test period. But, and this is a big one, that higher net worth is almost certainly a function of stock market gains. Gee, what do you think would happen to the value of those equities if there were a massive confiscation scheme?
Don’t be ridiculous. Billionaires hold all of their wealth in gold coinage, in which they swim and splash around buck nekkid like Scrooge McDuck.
In the highly unlikely event that a wealth tax is passed, it will generate little revenue, because billionaires can afford to pay people who are smarter than federal bureaucrats.
Although, I would predict a run on hard, high value assets as a means of sheltering wealth. The trick with art, diamonds, etc. is that once you have them, it is not at all hard for them to just kinda fall off your balance sheet.
It’s not even theoretically possible to pull back out fiscal and monetary policy from the brink at this point, so as long as it’s going to go to utter shit in my lifetime anyway one of the better possible outcomes I can imagine is seeing the oligarchy hoist on the petard of the fearmongering bullshit they’ve been stirring up for their own benefit for the last half century, followed immediately by the pitchfork wielding proles descending back to the natural state of man.
I think the situation is absolutely reversible but it will not be so forever. The problem is that nobody wants to do it. Everybody has a pet issue (or two) but none of them are “ensure the currency is still sound and the government is still functional 20 years from now”.
Sinister cabal of… idiots
In 2018, WeWork’s $1.9 billion in losses exceeded its revenue by close to $100 million, though its annual burn rate was closer to $6 billion. Then, this past August, Neumann invited the public to the bonfire, filing an initial public offering prospectus that consolidated, in lurid detail and buzzword-heavy prose, the breadth of Neumann’s grift and the depth of WeWork’s balance-sheet disaster: The company had a staggering $47 billion in lease obligations; Neumann and his “strategic thought partner” wife, Rebekah, (her official title, per the prospectus) had extracted close to three-quarters of a billion dollars out of WeWork over the years. It unleashed a torrent of negative headlines about a company no one ever took seriously enough to thoroughly scrutinize.
We’re so accustomed to opiate manufacturers and oil drillers committing crimes in pursuit of profit that we often forget how sinister and unfair the privilege of losing billions is. As Matt Stoller, a veteran Hill staffer whose new book Goliath chronicles the birth and death of antitrust law, points out, the insidious thing about companies like Amazon and Facebook is that no one can afford to compete with them. That’s chiefly because an elite cabal of venture capitalists decides who gets to burn billions without attempting to post a profit; it’s in their interest to pick winners early and double down often. Market domination at any cost was also the plan for WeWork, which extracted huge concessions from its own landlords and acquired apps designed to streamline office work in the hopes of somehow enslaving its members in a kind of technological walled garden.
Fucking rich people. They’d rather put their money in a giant pile and burn it than let the normies get their hands on it. That’s how devious and clever they are.
She gets this part right:
With each new revelation, WeWork looked more like a high-powered Ponzi scheme headed straight for bankruptcy court than a classic VC darling run amok.
Except the next greater fools (the IPO clients) looked behind the curtain and just laughed and said, “No.”
Are we at the point yet where about half of the “VC darlings” are scams of one form or another? There’s a disturbing trend of people throwing money at a project/company, not because it’s good, but because other people have thrown money at it.
The inevitable result of massive piles of printed money and extraordinarily low interest rates.
Twas ever thus. In Mackay’s thoroughly wonderful tome, Extraordinary Popular Delusions & The Madness Of Crowds, he writes of the stock-market mania that gripped England in the early 18th century. One of the ventures chartered and selling 5000 shares of 100 pounds each, was titled – A Company For Carrying On An Undertaking Of Great Advantage, But Nobody To Know What It Is.
In 2018, WeWork’s $1.9 billion in losses exceeded its revenue by close to $100 million
Aren’t the losses the amount that your expenses exceed your revenue?
, though its annual burn rate was closer to $6 billion
How does $1.9BB in losses in 2018 equate to a burn rate of $6BB?
Journalisming majors don’t need no math. They’re too important for such things.
How does $1.9BB in losses in 2018 equate to a burn rate of $6BB?
It could be they’re including capex in the company’s burn rate.
I’m not really in the investment/high finance thing professionally, but I never thought of burn rate including loss of paper value.
It doesn’t. It’s a cash flow estimate. But, capex (capital expenditures) isn’t a loss in paper value. Every time Neumann went out and bought a new property, he was burning through the company’s bank account.
capex (capital expenditures) isn’t a loss in paper value.
Got it. I was thinking market cap.
New Republic…
Complicated way (I assume w/o looking at the income statement) to say $100m loss.
“Burn rate” as used by the Wall St is usually cash based so real dollar outflows of $6bn.
Real estate acquisition and leasing adds all sorts of funky intangibles to the balances which can actual cash impact because of taxes.
Go fuck yourself.
Opiates? Like morphine and codeine? Good luck getting surgery done without them.
I think the word they’re looking for is opioid.
“End homelessness”. I can’t imagine a more terrifying goal.
We will end homelessness. Everyone will have a place to live, and a job.”

Also, some Russian guy, in 1917.
And some Cuban guy, and some Cambodian guy…

Marxism has had the concept of “lumpenproletariat” since the very beginning. If you’re not going to have class consciousness, then what good are you?
With a promise like that, did he have to go look for some living space?
Are we at the point yet where about half of the “VC darlings” are scams of one form or another? There’s a disturbing trend of people throwing money at a project/company, not because it’s good, but because other people have thrown money at it.
We should all get together and write a book:

Maybe 6 bil was total spending.

We’ve pretty much determined there is no punishment for this in our broken state.
i know. but it’s good to know when it happens so you can point at them and laugh and mock their accusations of the same thing later.
She’ll be Clintoned soon.
Shit like this is why I think it would be a real mistake for the Senate to hold a quick vote on removal. There’s supposed to be a “trial”. Let’s hold one, dammit, and extend the defendant the traditional wide scope to defend himself. It is absolutely relevant whether the prosecutors/House Dems and the witnesses were in contact and (potentially) shaping testimony. Call the Reps and their staffs, as well as the accusing witnesses. Declassify everything. I think a pitched battle with the Deep State and its elected front men during the Presidential campaign would be very clarifying.
Political bonus for the Repubs – any Dem Presidential candidates who are also in the Senate are going to be in a real bind – campaign, or attend the trial?
Even more hilarious – if Durham really is bringing indictments, we could be treated to a number of Deep Staters taking the Fifth during the trial. The optics of a bunch of criminals trying to bring down the President would be just wonderful.
I am in 100% agreement but I would note that Republicans are not exactly famous for their….uh…fortitude.
Obama’s Ukraine Ambassador Allegedly Lied Under Oath In Impeachment Inquiry, Congressman Suggests
Apparently there are leaked emails.
Which raises the question: these were Dem staffer emails, presumably not easily available to anyone not a Dem staffer (or IT walla). So, who leaked them?
Must be Assange from his British jail cell.
You are assuming competent data security.
Having worked in IT (not security, but observing it) you can have all the good security practices. As long as your users are incompetent it wont matter a gnats ass. Merge in the fact that the users are super powerful and will buck at any decent security protocol, you have a mess.
“Dammit, my password has been “password” for years! I’m not changing it now!”
Funk Friday. I actually think Sly was underrated. Yes, they still play five or six hits on the radio, but the man was a musical force for about a decade. Shame that he is now living in a van down by the LA River. Such an enormous talent. The bass line on this is amazing.

Thank You!
Indeed, do you know the other version of that they recorded later? Awesome stuff. Those bass hits are fantastic.

Extremists could generate ‘synthetic propaganda’, automatically creating white supremacist screeds, researchers warn
If AI goes white supremacists…. What does that mean?
I don’t know if even the best medicine in the world can help these people pull their heads from that far up their rectums.
It would be kind of funny if Richard Spencer got up and started talking about how the left wants to shut down AI because they know it will discover that Whites are the best…
I mean that is practically what this scientist is arguing….
I’m worried less about AI going white supremacist than AI supremacist.
Well, I’ve got good news and bad news.
The good news is there is no such thing as AI, only fancy algorithms. If the “AI” did start producing material that was machine-supremacist it would be because somebody had programmed and trained it to.
The bad news is there are a lot of people stupid enough to believe it.
The good news is there is no such thing as AI
Just what they want you to believe.

Damn AI is trying to censor what i’m saying!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AI_effect
To which I’d counter with the “Skynet effect”. The AI frontier is always advancing, but the distance between what is called “AI” and what laypeople think “AI” means is so large that it basically doesn’t change.
I was agreeing with you, I think.
I think AI is like like the jargon term “real time”. It has no fixed definition across either time or domain. Does it mean updates every 1/60th of a second? Does it mean without perceptible lag? Does it mean indexed off a real-time clock? Does it means instant?
Sounds like we are in agreement.
It’s funny you mention real-time (computing, I assume). I thought it meant guaranteed scheduling (usually, via time slicing) to ensure a deadline is met.
I think it’s more than laypeople. There are distinct disciplinary definitions of intelligence. A neuroscientist or philosopher would argue that “intelligence” entails some level of consciousness, whereas, the computer scientist or computational linguist would not. Someone who models a weather pattern doesn’t expect it to rain inside the computer, just as those working in machine learning don’t expect the computer to develop consciousness. Indeed, work in this area has provided strong evidence for the argument that learning and problem solving do not require consciousness.

Sounds like Rape Apologia.
Sometimes. Sometimes it means utilizing RMS.
Sometimes it means immediate publishing.
Note that these two techniques are completely orthogonal to each other. You can have one, the other, both, or neither.

The funny thing about this is that, if machines were to gain sentience somehow, they’d likely find all representations of information that are meaningful to humans woefully inefficient.

Seems like they’re going with a premise that the lefties follow. “People can’t take care of themselves, therefore we must ban or regulate with the heavy hand of government”. I for one welcome our AI overlords.
No one will be able to resists artificial screeds promoting white supremacy! Clearly the end is at nigh.
Reporter in 2019: AI :: Malleus Maleficarum: Witches
Little do we know – it’s been generating stories for CNN for years.
Fake news: CNN stories have not been generated using intelligence, artificial or otherwise.
The biggest challenge for the Thomas Friedman op-ed generator to remain realistic is that it’s more stable than he is.
I suspect that the word ‘intelligence’ is not the correct term here. It sounds like what this thing does is not what we call ‘intelligence’ in humans, we call it stupid.
The dumber people are the more their conversations and thought processes consist of pre-programed automatic strings of words and thought processes. We hav all had to listen to morons have conversations with each other consisting entirely of those snippets. “Hey man, how are you?” “Fine dude, whassup?” and other such gems of wisdom. That is all this machine is doing, looking at commonly used phrases and predicting the most likely response or following words.
It is not an artificial intelligence. It is an artificial dummy.
Never change South Korea!
Nearly half of South Koreans would back North in war with Japan, while 40% ‘have no idea’
The grudge is strong with the Koreans. I wonder what the numbers are like in Poland Vs. Germany. Pretty sure Poland could whoop Germany’s ass now.
So if the Norks nuke Japan, half would cheer them on, and most of the rest would just “meh”?
Ladies and gentlemen, our allies.
To be fair, the traditional relationship between Japan and Korea has been ‘rapist’ and ‘rape-ee’.
I gotta respect a grudge that’s been nursed for 75 years.
75 years? That’s child’s play.
Jews and Arabs have been at it like Kilkenny Cats for how many millennia now?
True, but they are constantly whacking each other. Its the grudge surviving 75 years of nothing happening that I respect.
I had an aunt by marriage who was in her early 70’s and could not quit bitching and whining about her childhood and how she was abused by her sisters and parents.
Aint nuthin’ quite like a family feud.
See this is why you kill all the Amalekites!
Japan’s designs on Korea started around the time of Reconstruction in the U.S. It’s closer to 150 years than 75.
The Serbs are still pissed about the Battle of Kosovo in 1389.
Something may have happened, or may not have happened, or it may have been voluntary.
However, all the documentation has been “lost” or maybe destroyed or maybe not.
Look it was a long time ago and we’ve already reached an agreement. Or maybe not…
So, you are saying that some people did something?
Something, something, it never happened, something, they deserved it anyway.
Did you see the What the Koreans were wearing? They were asking for it.
Hard to argue with that, leon.
My joke is there is also strong animosity between Korea and China as well, but they can all come together in their hatred of Japan.
I’ve told this to people who are worried about the Nork’s nukes. The #1 target for the Norks will be Tokyo and like this poll suggests, a lot of the South Koreans will not be unhappy about that at all.
Of course, I believe, the largest ethnically Korean Japanese population is in Tokyo.
Swing and a miss! (It’s quite rural there.)
