There are a lot of long answers in this one, that’s because to get the letters I needed to spell out the author and title I had to use a longer quote than is usual for acrostics, I also tried to limit the number of clues to under 26 but that proved to difficult and I ended up using the authors full name to make everything jibe. That’s why there are symbol not letter designations for the last 5 clues. Also during final assembly I realized that I had made an almost fatal error, I managed to salvage the puzzle, but the last clue is fugly and Clue S is a name that is usually not initialized, unlike H.G. Wells or R.L. Burnside, but to make it work I had to go that route. It’s only one initial then the full last name. Gender Traitor graciously offered to beta test this one but since she may be the only person who worked the last one I figured I’d go it alone again, I’m still going to blame her for any errors however. And lastly, to keep these from just being vanity projects I have used a Liberty related quote I expect all of you to discuss the meaning and implications of the quote down in the comments. Entertainment only…no gambling…have fun…we’re all counting on you…across all obstacles…
Solutions
Creators Notes -Clues L,X, and E Should have the (2 wds) notation. L and X because they are two words, E because whoever titled that movie was a maroon. Also to those who don’t work these because they’ve been too hard, I really tried and make this one easier, I’d say a third of the clues are dead gimmes and another third are relatively easy, hopefully one should be able to puzzle out the rest.
I think the Richard Widmark movie was two words as well.
Shouldn’t E have 3 words?
ALL OF THEM
ELDERLY doesn’t fit for word B.
FUCKWITS and ASSHOLES both fit.
PISCINE doesn’t fit for word F, and isn’t hyphenated anyway.
I’m obviously far too stupid to figure out how to do this puzzle. I think I’ll just drink.

We’re at the hospital. We think her water broke. Not totally sure, but we’re here.
Courage, m’sieu!
Congrats on your new tax deduction!
Excellent! You can write it off this year!
I was born on Dec 31st, squeaking by the tax exemption. According to family history, Dad took Mom on a long drive down a bumpy road the night before.
XY was due between Dec 24 and Dec 31. I told them they were going to schedule me for induction because I’d be damned if I was going to carry this baby all year and then not get to write him off.
They looked horrified.

I’ve got to format and print this out by myself again ?
Yeah sorry I don’t have a online version available, I can send you the PDF’s if that helps.

I took care of it
I’m not particularly handy that way, but I would configure it as a two-page pdf, more click and print sort of dealio

I have to have a signature clue and I couldn’t fit ORCA into the first acrostic so that left the Kurosawa film.

CJ, Rhywun, Plinker, and MIkeS. You collectively have made it easy for me to find this , which seems to neatly tie your references together.
I also found this .
My introduction to Red Foxx was S & Son, then I found out his stand-up was a lot more blue. I found it funny how they had to clean these guys up for prime time tv.
clean? NBC put this on the air
it’s the best minute ever broadcast on VHF
The 70s really knew how to address this stuff. Today it would be a woke-ass “very special episode”. *plotz*
“it’s the best minute ever broadcast on VHF”
I think you maybe right.
Wow. I great up during that era and even I forgot how far they used to go.
The closest I remember, and this also was Red Foxx, was his reply whenever some exasperated white lady would exclaim “Well, I never!” – he would quickly reply “I bet you have!”
OT: Libertarians Are Wrong About Pornography. Don’t Let Them Control The Conversation
You people…
You can be against something, and still think it should be legal. To me, that’s mostly what being libertarian is.
I agreed last night before drugs fell out my ass.
yup
Besides, porn has brought us some very useful technology ( not that kind of useful.) Home video player/recorders for starters. It’s uncountable how many internet based features were born in hopes of selling more porn (or giving it away on 7th avenue.) This is why we should ignore polls, people are fucking stupid and mean.
Full disclosure, I lived with a pornstar for about a year in the late eighties.
Dish.
Ditto.
It’s a long and actually interesting story. Her stage name was AJA and she just kinda invited me to move in. She kicked out her drug addict husband to make room for me. I traveled the country with her on her featured dancer tour. Her husband was a former bank robber and after she kicked him out, he took it back up again. Previously, he robbed banks in Florida and was fairly successful at it. When he tried in California, he got caught quickly. On night, about three months in, at 3 am, all the doors and windows burst open and the room filled with man with guns shouting and yelling. They grabbed me by my hair and dragged me naked into the living room where they started to cuff me. Barbara (her real name) came yelling “NO! It’s not him, the guy you want live in an apartment at (insert his addy)!” The cops just leapt up and rushed out the door and were gone. Eventually I moved out, because she kept occasionally shooting dope with celebrities in the house. She O.D>’d and died early some few years later. She hounded me like a stalker for quite some time before giving up.
You don’t know how to dish, dude.
Dude, that was totally not what we were interested in. Most of that was a given.
The cops just leapt up and rushed out the door and were gone
Pull the other one.
No, I guess not.
Oooh!
Young adult me was a big fan.
That is very sad.
Same. I have… distinct memories, from back when porn tapes were valuable commodities.
This is like the porn version of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
Sorry to hear of the O.D., but that’s sadly all too common. My younger self thought they were all just sexually-free women, doing their thing. My older self now realizes that is, sadly, not really that common – lots of issues seems to be the norm.
Sorry, I hadda cook up some garlic mashed potatoes.
Yeah Bobarian has the right girl. She was really sweet, in a kinda damaged goods way. I felt really bad for her, but she created so much drama for me, I had to leave. Plus she wanted me to live off her earnings and I just couldn’t do that. I’ve always been a working man. Anyways This was ’89-90. She seemed to think I could fix her but I couldn’t. Had a lot of fun and traveled to a lot of places.
That is very sad.
Mourning not the young men she endangered, but her death. I see.
(I secretly agree with you, I think that society ought to be oriented around women as fulcrums for useful socialization of males. It’s patriarchal, but in a way that entirely benefits women, too.)
I suppose the young men aren’t responsible for any part of their participation?
But, seeing as how I’m a woman, yeah, I’m gonna think about the woman first.
On the other hand, to me, that she was able to kick a bank robber to the curb and make it stick is pretty damned spectacular because heaven knows there are plenty of men out there who’ve endangered women who are unable to fight back or leave.
Now that my snark is out of the way…
I do have lots of feelings on the subject of women being fulcrums for useful socialization of males, but it’s late, I am working, and my head is a jumble.
In short, however: Access to a cunte should not generally be as easy as it is.

Fargo and Legion’s Noah Hawley will write and direct the next Star Trek movie
He’s a very good writer, including his books, so he could make good Star Trek movie. Also lol @ the Trump reference.
Trump, man.
In space, no one can a woodchipper scream.
You betcha
Oh God.
The first two seasons of “Fargo” were excellent, the second especially, and the one novel I read, “Before The Fall,” was also great. And they were both apolitical.
Also I have sunk my hog deep into two Sarah Lawrence grads so how dare you!
Wait, one. Shucks. I can’t lie to you.
Hog?
and there is nothing deep about a 7 sisters grad
lol Sarah Lawrence isn’t a Seven Sister.
LOSER! CIS-LOSER!
You assume I am cis because I don’t know the 7 sisters? Maybe I am just low class!
I have a couple friends who went to Smith – that Simpsons clip is a popular reference when we’re hanging out with them.
“ Sarah Lawrence grad”
I picture a skinny-jean soyboy.
Very short blue hair (she shaved her head and dyed it blue), a large tattoo of a one dog on one thigh and one dog on the other other thigh (she was a petite gal so they were prominent) and hairy in all the wrong places (legs, armpits).
An outright humblebrag? Yes, yes this is.
That’s impressive given his whole bio.
I dunno, an ’89 graduate of Sarah Lawrence probably makes him a second-wave feminist, at worst, and probably right-wing by today’s standards lol. I’m sure he’s ‘evolved’ leftward in Hollywood, but still, if there was a time for reasonable people to graduate from there it was probably late 80’s early 90s
Maybe he’ll re-do the Motion Picture (the one with V’Ger) that kind of trippy seems his thing.
While Legion went off the rails, it was at least interesting and I appreciated that he was trying to do something different with the concept of superheroes/psychic abilities.
I will admit I’ve seen or read nothing of his and leave it at that.

I was TDY to Denver in the 90s for munitions maintenance tech school. I was surprised by how many bad winter driver there were then.
I’ve driven in SLC too, my experience has been that the driving experience in most major cities sucks.
Okay, these don’t seem to be getting much action, were more of you actually doing the crosswords? Should I do more of those or just pack it in and go back to trolling full time. Or maybe try a Jumble?
I don’t know what an acrostic is, much less how to work one.
I like the crosswords even if I can’t finish them.
Also the interactive UI is awesome.
#metoo
+1 this
Sorry Hyp, the acrostics don’t engage me as I am too lazy to print them out.
Thanks for doing these.
What does that UI cost? When does it expire?
It’s nothing, less than I give CPRM (and they actually deliver on their promises (kidding(sorta)))
Isn’t that how Patreon works, you sponsor someone and poof no more content?
I just wanted a shout out in the credits, that’s all.
That’s what I figured, looks like back to crosswords.
I tried painting letters on the png files but oof – kind of a pain.
Plus I will admit I don’t really like acrostics 🙁
I searched and found a bunch of acrostic geneators. Didn’t look hard enough to see if any provide the UI. I like the crosswords even if I don’t always finish them. But only wiht he UI.
Thanls for putting the effort for this motely crowd.
I’m multitasking – working on puzzle, chatting, watching Curse of Oak Island, and listening to Mr. GT’s running commentary on the latter.
I like Jumbles, too.
You stopped trolling full time?
On the clues, I’ve figured out maybe 9 of 31.
So the writer/source is pretty blank.
I might have a WAS or a THE guessed right, but I just can’t quite get a rhythm or a foothold on the quotation going.
I’m enjoying acrostic and am pleased to have learned the concept, but you’re a tiny bit obscure for me. That’s a good thing: you really don’t want to think like I do, and no one could solve it if the clues spoke to me.
solved a couple of other clues
got the first name
pretty sure eighth and ninth passes aren’t going to improve anything
I must admit that on my best day I wasn’t going to figure out
G, I, J, L, S, V, X, Z ! $, and ?
so a third of the clues were just not up my alley
The Hyperbole,

“It’s the big one! : An Acrostic”, is the first one of yours that I have seen.
Although I am rather busy of late I would like to make an attempt. If I fail to solve this puzzle I am inclined to have you present another one (and perhaps further challenging puzzles).
As I have written, I am currently somewhat busy. How much time do we have to solve your puzzle(s)? I intend to try to solve any and all, with no recourse to outside help (examples being individuals with whom I are in contact with me and various sources such as the internet).
The Crosswords can be found here, there is one other acrostic posted here on glibs a week or so back, you should be able to find it in the archives.
Hello again Hyp*,
I want to compliment you with regards to making this crossword puzzle. I know that many others, in addition to you and I, have made similar attempts, and you seem to have accomplished this goal.
Although I did not solve your puzzle, other individuals might have done so and other individuals might do so in the future.

With my favorite glibs around, I could use some advice/help: Does anyone still on have any advice regarding items to bring when a parent goes into a nursing home–as in, a checklist. Or, any helpful tidbit of info that you stumbled upon, or were given when you dealt with the issue?
I’m trying to put together both a list of questions to ask when I take my mother to tour the possible/probable facility in a couple of days, as well as a checklist of things to take and NOT take.
There won’t be anyone else involved–no spouse, siblings, etc. Wife will be able to help me a bit after the fact, but the majority of this is on me to figure out.
Thanks in advance for any help.
little comforts mean a lot, so really nice robes, blankets, house shoes
sleeping head gear: kerchief or cap
correct attitude: assume the staff is stealing from you all the time, so try to mark up things in weird, unseemly ways to make them less attractive
I like reading lights and such, but if it’s small and portable, it will get gone
That’s horrible, but thanks
well, in the case of the lamp, a really big fancy thing works fine
batteries and coffee will grow legs
of course, framed pictures are great; most folk have their family on their door, and no one wants to be the only one without picture
This is very helpful, and I’m already trying to think ahead on things like this.
Also, ditto what Yu says.
What Don said. Make sure they treat their patients with dignity. Take the items, within reason, that give her comfort and reassurance.
Went through this last year with my Dad. Didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Looked at two places and one just felt right. By right I mean I wouldn’t beel bad about my Dad living there. Make sure sure find out what kind of care they can provide. What sort of things can she not do herself. Particuarly as Mom’s condition deteriorates. Will you have to make other accomodations at some point. Ask the staff to walk thought a typical day. What personal grooming/care tasks will they help with? Ask them what you’ll need/ Likely it will be clothes and her normal persnal care products. Enough picures momentoes etc to make it feel more personal and homey. If the place s any good they’ll be able to walk you through it. TV, cable, phone, fridge? Yoy may have to provide or pay for the service. Again walk through a day in your mind and with the staff. Favorite foods/snack? Can you provide if they won’t. Just sream of conciousness here I’m afraid.
It was stressful, but the place ended up being great.
Printing this. Thanks, Mikey.
Glad to help. As Don said how the staff treat the residents is the most important thig. You probably can’t see that in action, but I could feel it as they walked be around the place,
A cool thing about the placce was the the kitchen/ dining room was like a larger version of regular house. An island between the two with some snacks always out and people would just hang around like you would in your own kitchem/
another thing is floorspace: anything that takes it is a problem, a cramping tripping hazard
sometimes you can go up (bookshelf) but they can’t reach it especially from a wheelchair
sometimes you can mount things on the wall, sometimes not, sometimes a 20 fixes the perspective
Nothing to help with the mechanics, but take care of yourself. My wife went through this with her mom a while back and it was draining. Lots of energy and time (and probably a bit of guilt for feeling those). We got our dog in the middle and she credits it for getting her through it.
Take nothing you can’t lose – because yes, stuff goes missing. Sometimes staff steals, but sometimes other patients. We had to keep my MIL’s room locked because more ambulatory patients would wander in and take stuff. Sometimes it would get returned, sometimes it wouldn’t.
lots of socks (those are easy to lose and hard to mark with a name).
Pay special attention to the rooms where the patients are lying there. There are always a few people who are up and active, the staff will usually tend to them because of that. It’s the ones who are bed-ridden or sick who may be neglected.
And staffing. At least around here, it’s a very bad problem of adequate staff in nursing facilities in general with lots of turnover. High turnover isn’t necessarily bad – it’s common – but may indicate low pay where the facility acts as a training camp for cheap inexperienced staff who then move on.
I’m breakng down, this is getting hard
ugh: are you out of plans and options ?
No, we are seeking services for Wendy, and me as well, but til the next I got 10 bucks, not good
How long before you can go back to Arizona and work?
I can’t even post right, I’m broke and scared, we go it things coming but being homeless is spooky
Help is there.
Yes it is, looking at AZ still, just need to get insurance together,
I’m in tears right now, your generosity is more than I’m worth
Not at all. You are good people.
Yusef if you need help then tell us how to help.
^^ this here.
Yusef, if I could help in any meaningful way whatsoever, I would. Just know you’re in my mind always.
Twelve of the clues solved so far – took a break to take a call from one of my sisters. Gotta knock off for now to shower & wash hair. Leading a couple more Excel training classes at work tomorrow, so I have to get there early. Not beaten yet!
yup: 12 was all I ever figured out
10 more were never going to happen
the balance, well, maybe on a better night
Huh, guess I need to rethink my ideas on difficulty. I figured if a third of the clues were easy, then with about a third of the grid filled in one could suss out a number of words in the grid giving enough hits in the clues to get few more, rinse and repeat. I’ll shoot for half next time.
Still working on it and making progress. Part of my challenge is that I can’t make out the numbers in the clue squares when I print it, so I’m looking back and forth between the paper and an enlarged on-screen image of the clues in order to see where the letters go. Don’t know if there’s a way around that. Gotta knock off again & go get ready for work, but I’ll keep at it tonight. Thanks again for the birthday present! : )
I am using a magnifier to read the numbers on the clues. Reading glasses are not getting the job done.
Got the easy ones though.
I Identified as having solved them all and the squares filled themselves in.
Pay no attention to the gibberish the letters spell out.
Tardis and GT sorry about that, I never tried to print one so didn’t realize that was going to be an issue. I think I know what I need to do to make the next ones more printer friendly and easier to read. Thanks for the feedback.
It’s all good. I’m still enjoying it. Thanks for doing it.

Trump is an inveterate liar so who knows what the truth is. But, yeah, you can hear the disappointment from the writer.
The Frenchies know he can’t drone them, right?

Obama did it for the good of the children, Trump does it because he’s a Nazi stroke victim with a tiny mushroom penis!
Ok. Good. I was concerned they did it for a bad reason.
Bad reasons only come from non-Democrats.
LOL
If we aren’t already talking about this, WHY NOT??? https://hotair.com/archives/allahpundit/2019/11/19/important-question-politics-today-farted/
It is the perfect optics/description for both CNN and Swallowell/the DNC
I assumed it was the warm up sound a nuke made before he fired it on US citizens because they owned guns.
Considering that scenario would mean your life is about to turn to shit, I absolutely agree.
Not my life. I don’t own a gun.
*too smug to realize my neighbor does and a nuke might not stop at the fence line.*
It might, though. Wanna try it out that experiment?
Fartgate 2019
Because
I love youit’s good to laugh.Reminds me of the SoClean. I’ve had a CPAP for almost 20 years, I don’t ever clean it, and get sick at probably a lower rate than before I used one. Immune systems, how do they work?
Well, damn. That wasn’t what I expected.
That has an excellent beat.
Outkast is brilliant, full stop.
I am not a very big fan of them, per se. I am a big fan of Andre–I think he’s done good work there, as well as his acting.
Have you used a black light on it? Hmm? Afraid of what you’ll find??
CSI, bitchez!!!

Speaking of Fartgate 2019….
I think I’ll stick with tradition this year…
chips and bourbon?
Are we talking chips chips or fish and chips chips?
and are we talking chips or crisps? So many questions.
This is what passes for news now?

Twits can’t even pay attention to to basic details. It’s Walter Reed, stupids.

The double standards are obvious, aren’t they??
Or have people lost all capacity for reason?
I can no longer give my fellow humans the benefit of the doubt. I’m thinking a near majority of people never had the capacity for reason. Cynical, I know.
Whenever I look around and read “news” or watch the latest outrage, all I can think of is, “Who the eff is enabling this crap?”
There’s your problem. Media companies have managed to structure their revenue streams so that they don’t actually need an audience for most of their content to still make money. They just need people to want to see one or two things in their portfolio, and force the consumer to buy everything to get that little piece.
I’m thinking a near majority of people never had the capacity for reason. Cynical, I know.
The more cynical view is that they have the capacity, but never bother to exercise it.
I have some real news but I am not sharing so there
You’re visiting this side of the Atlantic?
lol no. Who has the resources for that?
I do.
I have enough stashed away that I could hop the ocean and visit any given Eurostate I can convince to issue me a visa (or with which the US has a visa-free tourist agreement)
Admittedly, it’s being saved up for a different purpose.
I had enough stashed for a visit across the pond. My money pit just took care it. My wife asked me why I coaxed her into getting a passport.
Talk about a project getting scope creep. It was more like a scope leap.
I get that unexpected expenses crop up. I also avoid looking at how much is in the budget surplus account so that I’m not tempted to spend outside of the plan. I can scrap the current plan if I run into trouble, so I’m relieved I’ve not had to.
well obviously one could spend recklessly but that is not the point. 5 to 10 thousand US is a lot of money for a trip.
I’m not even talking recklessly. This is the account of funds left over after paying bills, debt maintenance, retirement savings, and discretionary spending. It is literally the budget surplus account.
I’m saving it to take my father on a trip for his birthday next year.
True for me as well. Over 5 grand for schlubs like us is pretty extravagant.
