Come now….comment, all o’ ye.
Talk about football some more?
I went to the grocery today, and they put up a sign, “No Food Or Drink Inside”. So I came home.
/Heyooooo!
/Im kinda drunk
Started more booze today. Time to drink I suppose.
Always.
Hangovers only happen if you stop drinking.
-New Orleans saying
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Hangover in Japanese: 二日酔い (futsukayoi, 二 two 日 day 酔い drunk)
kupiga maji = to hit the water (Swahili)
the idiomatic meaning is to get really, really drunk
there are about 70 verbs in Swahili that use kupiga:
kupiga kura = to vote
kupiga simu = to call someone on the phone
kupiga teke = to kick
kupiga ngoma = literally to hit the drums, idiomatically, to dance/have sex
kupiga mweto = to jerk off
there are many, many others
uh, hakuna matata?
#mweto?
true story:
I went to a post office in Tanzania to mail some stuff. In Swahili, I tried to say: I’d like a large envelop and stamps for America, please.
In Swahili, the word for envelop is bahasha and the word for homosexual is basha.
Guess which one I said.
Well, anyway, after the laughter died down, I got my envelop and stamps. I’m sure the people nearby will tell the tale of that time an mzungu went to the post office and asked for a large homosexual for many years to come.
Someday, I hope to start a story with “so I went to this post office in Tanzania…”
You didn’t want Jesse?
Being in the Peace Corps means never having to say:
“I really wish I’d ….”
-actual recruitment slogan
The Peace Corps – fighting fire with marshmallows since 1961
I had to wait 5 years after I got back before I was eligible for any job in the military involving a foreign language. A lot of people think the Peace Corps is just a CIA front group.
Oh? Hang out with some peace corpses and tell me what they think about the US military/CIA.
RIP Odo
(Or Clayton Endicott III, if that’s what you remember.)
That was definitely what I remember most. And Les Poissons of course!!
Not The Eyes of Laura Mars? 🙂
Other than Trek, I only remember him from Eyes of Laura Mars. Admittedly, I only saw it after I first watched DS9.
I never saw Benson.
It was DS9 for me, although I did remember him being on Benson after it was mentioned. I also remembered him from the Bob Newhart show, although imdb only lists one episode, so that’s weird. RIP, RA
Would have been a guest role, since the recurring male regulars were played by Bill Daily (the airline pilot neighbor) and Peter Bonerz (the dentist).
I’ve said this before, but I loved DS9, but didn’t like any of the other Star Treks.
But I know him equally from Benson and DS9.
I was very surprised when I saw Inga Swenson as Helen Keller’s mother in The Miracle Worker.
Looking it up, I see she’s been married to the same man for 66 years. My goodness.
Definitely Odo for me. RIP — what a great actor, playing a great character on the most underrated Trek series.
Damn. RIP
Well, I’ve never been to Spain.
That song is awesome.
From the sidebar. ‘parently, youtube knows me.
That’s it? That’s all you got? Geez, and I thought I phoned it in…

You can say anything, but don’t say “Goodnight alt-right”.
I’d start a pun thread, but I don’t want to appear homophonic.
Yeah, you might catch mono.
I’d never sink solo.
That pun was so bad it only qualifies as a P U
You can catch mono, but you can’t catch bi.
Obligatory?
So, I haven’t watched a regular-season NFL game in years (I should mention we don’t have a TV), but last week someone here linked to a site that streams all the games and this week y’all have been talking up the Patriots/Chiefs game. It’s a dreary damp day here so I’d thought I’d watch the game. I learned that I still like the watching football, but HF the number of commercials!. Do people actually watch them all? I gave i up. It didn’t help that my team looked like shit.
Do the Dems know about this market failure of the excess supply of commercials? I’m sure the could come up with a plan. No one needs 23 commercails with every game pause.
I don’t watch TV as in “sit in front of it and give it my full attention”.
I multitask, so when a commercial comes on I turn my attention to shitposting or some programming or cooking or whatever else I’m doing.
Yeah, if I’m going to do this I need a better set up. Trying to do it on my tablet with a shit DLS connection. I can’t imagine just sitting in front of a single feed.
Usually the early games have 1 on CBS, one on Fox. Switching back and forth helps limit commercials. For later games, there’s a mute button and the Internet.
Unless you’re in a market with a team with an early home game. And in that regard New York and SF are screwed since there are two teams to schedule around.
You have to watch with the remote in one hand – or else comment on the internet during commercials.
I have trained myself to ignore commercials. Sunday football is the only thing I watch on TV and don’t notice the commercials.
How bad do the refs want the Cheifs to win?
Holy fuck. I spoke too soon.
I noticed my yard light was on during the daytime today. I looked closely, saw a red squirrel was sitting on top of the light, had obviously covered the light detecting cell. Light comes on, warms up the fixture, squirrel stays warm. Now, he accidentally turned it on but will he have learned from that experience? If it happens again I may be short one squirrel.
Squirrels are rats with good PR
One thing I am going to miss about our house is that my office window looks out on our back yard, which backs up to a woods. So the squirrels and jays get to squabbling and they get LOUD. Then the cardinals come in, spank the jays and send the squirrels to their rooms.
No shit – those fuckers ate all my Roma tomatoes for two summers in a row. And by “eat”, I mean “rip off the plant when it’s just starting to turn red, take one bite, and throw it on the ground“.
I shot 5/8” steel pellets at them with a slingshot for a while (even killed one of them) but it didn’t make a difference. There are just too damn many of them.
I’ll have to construct chickenwire cages if I ever want homegrown tomatoes.
.22 cci cb’s in a rifle
I planted tomatoes late this year and nothing ripened before the first hard frost (around October).
I picked everything green and ripened indoors. I also lost only 1 tomato (the nicest one, naturally) to tree rats. Had a loss of about 50%, but I still have some tomatoes ripening. Its kinda cool, and better than feeding the wildlife.
My tomatoes froze too (June 13th) but regenerated from the roots. We had a late fall, into Oct and had a lot of ‘maters. Even the watermelons all got ripe, with the late fall. The mice ate the tomatoes, as mentioned above. Punch a hole, eat a few seeds and onto the next.
My wife commented at dinner tonight that we’re still eating cabbage, Chinese cabbage, squash and potatoes from the garden, cukes and beets pickled. I’m getting seed catalogs and thinking about next year’s garden.

What the fuck is up with conservative twitter suddenly having a hardon (um, for lack of a better term) for banning porn?
Weird. I thought it was liberal Twitter wanting the ban. I must follow a whole lot more libertarians than conservatives.
From what I can tell it started with Matt Walsh (not Welch) a pretty hard core conservative type.
Ohhh that explains things. He can get pretty authoritarian. Let’s just say I would not want to be married to him.
You don’t think the anti-porn people turn out to be the freakiest in their sex lives?
I didn’t say that, but any enjoyment I might get from being a sub in the bedroom (not likely) would be totally subsumed by my rage at being treated like a baby-making maid outside the bedroom.
He’s probably the sub.
Matt Walsh (not Welch) is leading it.
Ha. Great minds. What Hyperbole said.
Beats me.
?
Eh, they have narrow bench when it comes to targets for outrage: drugs, porn, gays, hollywood – rinse, lather, repeat
Don’t forget video games. And the more you think about it, it’s really a joint left-right bench:
Drugs –
Right: Those damn hippies and their marijuanas. Don’t get me started on the negroes…
Left: Big Pharma tricked everybody into phentanyl addiction. Also, the deplorables only voted for Trump because of their sad, drug-addicted lives.
Porn –
Right: Debased debauchery that is poisoning the minds of the youth. Also, I can’t remember how to clear my browser history and now the wife found out.
Left: Misogyny! Patriarchy! Women are forced to do terrible things for the pleasure of men. Also, where the fuck am I supposed to get off now without Tumblr?
Gays –
Right: Damned degenerates and their fornicating onanistic homosexual anal sodomy! Good American family values would never tolerate such nonsense.
Left: Gays are predominantly white males and that’s not okay. They’ve gone mainstream and that means they’ve abandoned the inherent leftism of sucking dick.
Hollywood –
Right: Liberals and Jews are polluting the minds of America’s youth with communist propaganda!
Left: Conservatives and Jews are polluting the minds of America’s youth with non-communist propaganda! Also, they must have spiked Vagina Ghostbusters, there’s no other reason why it tanked.
Video Games –
Right: Sex and violence simulators are turning our would-be smart, athletic, Christian children into fat, dumb, atheists!
Left: Video games are escapist fantasies for the white supremacist patriarchal shitlords that are America’s youth. But we should still give them the right to vote, because Greta is so smart.
kbolino wins the internet.
Yay! Just in time for a new round of banning things on it, too.

fun fact: one of earliest memories is watching this movie
It’s almost like both TEAMS suck.
And every time you suspect one of them might be tolerable, along comes a reminder.
Haven’t a lot of conservatives always been anti-porn (at least publicly)?
Obscenity, so it includes anything you don’t like, as in Elvis’s gyrations.
Yeah, I have no idea what those people obsessed with “degeneracy” are about. But it’s nice that they’ve dropped the “we support free speech” mask.
Twitter has porn?
Tumblr did, but then they caved to the scolds.
I will trade a year off my life for the Patriots to lose to the Chiefs
+1 Halloween Tree
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mInv6t35GM4
One of my favorites as a child. What really sticks in my memory was one fall night when I was about 10 or 12 I went for a walk late at night. I cut across old man McVey’s pasture. The moon was full and incredibly bright but it would come and go with patchy clouds. The air on the ground was still and there was a heavy mist hanging low to the ground. The McVeys had a rather large old victorian style farmhouse and a huge red oak near the house. In that moonlight it suddenly struck me…I was in the setting to The Halloween Tree. At that age in that setting it had this almost magical feeling that the old, present day me never gets anymore. I can remember that event/non-event like it was five minutes ago. The color and brightness of the moonlight, the smell of the grass and mist, the silhouette of the house and the leafless tree.
I tell this for no reason at all. There is no point to it at all. Just that the mention of The Halloween Tree always makes me think of that moment.
Because those are visceral memories that last a lifetime.
Those are “The Moments to Remember”. Its good to have those kid memories.
Looks like the refs would too.
Ha Ha Patriots lost.
Ummm….how are you feeling, hay? OK, I hope?
An interesting bargain.
/Faust
Count Rugen would like to know your reaction, and be honest, this is for posterity.
This is why I have PTSD.
Heh, yeah here it comes.
Someone get Mojeaux a Xanax.
Give me a drink. The refs took 2 touchdowns away from the Pats. I’ve never seen worse officiating.
Patriots fans are never ever allowed to complain about refs.
+1 Tuck Rule
The Tuck Rule game was the correct call on a bad rule. They called it before and after that game before dropping it a decade later.
The Pats just got hosed by multiple incorrect calls (or non-calls, as in that horrible missed PI call at the end).
Eat me. Two touchdowns off the board in the 2nd half. That was crazy bad.
I’m not a Pats fan by any stretch and I deeply suspect that from time to time they benefit from sympathetic officiating and an NFL that sees them as a valuable cash cow. And that’s why it pains me deeply to say that there were two calls so horribly blown against the Pats that if you told me there was some kind of fix on the game I’d believe it. I mean, maybe the fumble I can understand as just an honest mistake, but that other one was a straight up touchdown. It’s absolutely insane that they’ll stop a game and call a hidden compound in NY full of nameless, unaccountable officials to get a final ruling on whether somebody was holding someone’s jersey for too long but they’ll see an obviously blown call and shrug because the team doesn’t have enough challenges left to point out the blatant mistake to the people who are supposed to know better.
They need to entirely scrap the review system. Call the plays on the field and that’s it. Sure they are going to miss calls but they still do and as it is now it just wastes time and botched calls seem worse somehow since they are ‘trying’ to get them right.
I tell myself that it all balances out in the end.
However… sometimes I think it is absolutely true that leagues have favorite teams.
Hyp: I agree
I think VAR is ruining soccer; every time the ball goes in the back the net we get to sit around and wait for someone in League Central to find a way to disallow it.
I am not going to say they weren’t egregious calls.
But there were at least that many egregious calls in the Pats’ favor in the playoff game against us last year.
Please. You burned your challenges on what amounted to temper tantrums.
Or really bad calls. Like its too much ask for the refs to make calls.
See next month and it won’t be friendly.
This wasn’t friendly, though. At least one would-be fight. I think I heard on the radio there was another dust-up?
As Cowboys fans (not me) about “tripping”
Not yet. Brady sitting on the bench looked like a dude with an impacted bowel, trying to crank one out on the toilet.
There’s still a minute left for the Chiefs to blow it. My sphincter is clenching.
Is it over yet?
There ya go.
Breathe!!!
Unclench. 23-16 final. Congrats.
Dont get it twisted- I have no KC love other than seeing NE get beat.
I assume that when the Chiefs play the Patriots, most of the country become Chiefs fans.
I generally support anyone that has a chance of beating Pittsburgh too.
/cincy “fan”
I know I do.
And yet YouTube’s Pittsburgh Dad is hilarious
When Ben played, and would come to Cincinnati, WLW would play this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7ciTI7rVu4 or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6-6JfSbtdY
Evidently, Ben’s lawyers sent them something along the lines of a cease & desist, so they knocked it off.
He’s okay. The writing could be funnier.
The Niners/ Saints game was the best of the season so far. I love high passing games, and that one delivered. Also won 170 so that helps. Now if the Seahawks can lose the upcoming one we should be set for the playoffs.
Dropped by just to say ^this. Wow.
Good game all around. Evenly matched teams and very few bullshit calls. My team won, which helps, but it was a real hardcore passing game. The NFL has really been fucking up the officiating and the only conclusion I can reach is that the owners do not give a fuck. The whole thing could be changed and made vastly better for not much out of their pockets, but they don’t want to do so. The officials on the field should have their purpose, but every game should have three or four officials watching in a booth in real time and communicating to the on field refs. Every single play can be seen in 10 different angles within seconds. Sometimes it might take thirty seconds, but almost never more than that. Move the game along and get every single call right.
That was the promise with VAR in soccer. Let’s just say it isn’t working out that way – at all.
And I think this applies in football too: the call on the field stands unless the gnomes in the booth find a “clear and obvious” reason to overrule it – and I have seen dozens of calls that looked obviously wrong to me and everyone else but the gnomes were afraid to overrule the refs.
(PS. There’s no “challenge” system in soccer – all scoring events are reviewed.)
Strange, isn’t it? Because as a viewer (or a broadcaster) it really is not hard to get the call right 99% of the time. Sometimes it takes five different angles in slow mo, but rarely more than 30 seconds.
In soccer, the refs pitched an absolute fit over VAR.
Likely similar in football.
That’s why we are at where we are.
I think I said it up above as well.
It’s kinda weird that the owners don’t care that their product is getting devalued by bad officiating. It really is not much of a cost issue for getting it right, I can only conclude that because they stillhave the eyes of America on them every Sunday that it is not important to them, because it clearly isn’t.
something I’ve wanted to post for long time;
I’ve heard people say that entertainment and pop culture is all brainwashing.
Well, lemme tell you something:
I watched a lot of violent movies and TV, and played violent video games. And before that I had toy guns and GI Joe, and I….
Oh.
Nevermind….
OK, now it’s raining, when does it act like weather here? Today South winds, tomorrow North at 20 plus Knots, Haven’t flown in two weeks, waaa,
