I don’t think I can express my displeasure at the CFP committee enough, dropping Ohio State to #2. But I won’t go into it. That’s life being a fan of a team not in the SEC. And who knows, maybe Clemson really aren’t that good and its all their terrible schedule…yeah, right.
In more enjoyable news, the Patriots dynasty may be coming to an end. If it continues, it’ll most likely involve a road playoff game. And speaking of playoffs, the Steelers are still inexplicably in with a few weeks to go. So are the Cowboys, who deserve to be taken behind the barn and shot. And the Texans, who are a schizophrenic enigma to say the least. Should be a wild final 3 weeks. Enjoy it.
Lots of other stuff happening, but we have some time constraints, so I’m moving on. Puritan and poet John Milton was born on this day. So were frozen food magnate Clarence Birdseye, actor Broderick Crawford, dimpled actor Kirk Douglas, actress Judi Dench, football players Deacon Jones and Dick Butkus, golfer Tom Kite, TNG and DS9’s Michael Dorn, and ‘rassler Kurt Angle.
Not a bad list. Not great, but not bad. Now on to…the links!
World Anti-doping Administration drops the athletic hammer on Russia. All I can say is: WOW!
“Uh, that’s half the reason we’re doing this. The other half is to erase the rest of the value.”

Protesters are back in force in Hong Kong. And I’m not so sure they should be referring to as “Democrats” but rather “pro-democracy.” Their ship seems to have passed the Dems’ ship in the night headed in opposite directions.
The FBI is presuming the Pensacola NAS shooting as a terrorist attack. Yeah, no shit.
Bonus NY Post link for a quick laugh. LOL, stop standing on the race course, dumbass.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Never trust a cat. This is basic stuff, people.
Somehow I don’t think that relationship is gonna last. Christ, what an asshole.
Not sure I’ve ever played this since we started doing songs on here. Whichever one of you has the spreadsheet (or database) set up listing songs by artist, title, genre, length, artist height, or whatever other category I’m leaving out, can let me know. The rest of you, enjoy it.
Now go have a great day, friends.
“Russia banned for four years to include 2020 Olympics and 2022 World Cup”
The entire country?
They can compete under a different flag. You know, a country in good standing with the IOC like North Korea or somewhere.
“The Nork athletes are unusually round-eyed this year.”
Didn’t I see that guy’s father flying a MIG?
Now that Russia isn’t the “Soviet Union” WADA is willing to drop the hammer. Is their testing better that they have actual proof that it is happening or did WADA’s internal fortitude strengthen now that Russia isn’t as intimidating?
I think it has a lot to do with “It’s in vogue to hate Russia right now.”
Remember the East German “womens” swim team?
In the Track & Field world they’ve been competing as “Authorized Neutral Athletes” since 2017. To compete they essentially have to live, train, and drug test in a country that WADA views as having a good testing program. Athletes from Russia picked up 6 medals at this year’s World Championships but not under a Russian flag, just in generic Nike gear.
Apparently it does mean that Russia cannot compete at the 2022 football World Cup. Although they can compete at Euro 2020 because it’s not considered a major event under anti-doping rules.
Just make an alternate Doping Olympics. I want to see what enhanced humans are capable of.
That’s what Florida was created for.
World Strongest Man runs on ESPN2 now and then – and it is every bit as entertaining as one might expect.
I love that competition. If you ever want some motivation to work out, just watch some 37 year old hauling a 747 100 yards, or lifting a 700 lb refrigerator and running a quarter mile.
That was my intro to ESPN. Late night they had lots of great fillers when they started. I was flipping channels and these guys were race walking around a track-and-field track with little cars strapped over their shoulders. “Holy crap! I gotta stop and watch this!”
They were chucking beer kegs on top of a truck, holding giant axes out at arm’s length and lifting giant telephone poles over their heads. It was bonkers.
The other late night ESPN magnet was this game that looked for all the world like a professional version of “smear the queer”. (yeah, you can’t say that… but that’s what the game was called back in the 70’s.) These guys had a rugby ball and they were drop-kicking each other in the chest and other bananas stuff. Turns out they called it “Australian rules football”. The “rules” part of that was a bit of a misnomer. You could practically murder someone and get a “great play!” from the announcers… and then some dude would just hold on to the ball while he was being tackled and they’d say “Ooooh… that’s a dirty foul there!!”. Bonkers.
Then they’d announce a score that was inscrutable. “And it is through for one behind! That makes it 7-13-55 to 8-9-57! ” It was like a scene out of Alice and Wonderland. Nothing made a lick of sense. And it was glorious!
I’ve always wanted to know how one applies to become the judge in the white pedophile coat and Inspector Clouseau hat who runs up and then does the fingers pointing forward from the hips to signal… something positive, I presume, from the cheers that follow.
It is legitimately the most entertaining thing on TV.
Sounds like fun, somehow I’ve never watched Oz rules.
Agree. I think there should be a Tour de Dope bike series, too.
There already is: they call it the “Tour de France” strangely enough.
I’ve heard that there might also be mainland protests going on, but those are more effecitvely suppressed/hidden than those in HK.
If by “suppressed” you mean “stuck in front of a firing squad,” then yeah, probably.
I hear they have nice education campuses now.
With a basketball program!
And a state of the art surgery center!
Showers are WW II era, however.
Man, that face carver kid’s just trying to avenge whomever held him down and graffitied up his face. No way that shit was elective.
There really are crazy people out there. That young man has a bright future, in terms of infamy.
Doubtful. Hell most likely be found dead behind a Denny’s, toothless from all the meth he’d smoked.
He doesn’t look like the brightest sort. He’s probably going to bring a knife to a gunfight sometime within the next year or so.
Yeah. He’ll be killed in a burglary or home invasion robbery.
One of those weird ones where the intruders tie him to a chair and pistol whip him a bit before ultimately shooting him after 20 minutes, but leave the girl living with him alone as long as she sits down and shuts up. Not that this will be commented on to heavily in the police report or short local news article.
Although… chick was dating that dude. She ain’t all there in the head either. He literally has “crazy” written all over his face…
Georgia is better than Wisconsin, as much as I hate to say it. The committee watched the first half of the B1G game, and the switch had to be made.
I was watching trying to figure out who team 4 was gonna be if the Badgers held on.
Georgia might be the only team in the country who’s offense is more outdated than Wisconsin’s. If they played, I think Wisconsin would boat-race them.
Also, they should have dropped UVA from the top 25 so they could be replaced in the Orange Bowl by anybody else…even if it’s Notre Dame.
Georgia’s offensive problem is that they even try to pass. Just run the damn ball 70 times per game.
Also, dont you want the 2 spot? I believe it produces the most champs.
I wanted the 1 spot because it means Atlanta. We spent half the day yesterday trying to figure out how we could go and it looks like we won’t. We’re headed to SC for Christmas this year.
You going to be in Charleston area?
Also, did you peak at the baseball article? Scheduled for Thursday, I see.
We could shoot yo there for a day I think. We’re gonna be in Hilton Head. For two weeks, most likely.
HHI is 2.5 hrs from me, too far out of the way for you.
But I won’t go into it.
And yet you immediately went into it and pulled some passive-aggressive bullshit.
This is why I went from neutral on the B1G to thinking fuck tOSU morning, noon, and night.
#OhioAgainstTheWorld
#WorldAgainsttOSU
Whats more insulting, leaving the extra t lower case or leaving it off entirely?
i.e. #WorldAgainstOSU
I just call them Ohio.
Well that escalated quickly …
Kirby fucked up by naming his boy Fromm the starter, he never gave Fields a chance. He also needs to hire a real OC and stay the fuck away from the Offense
“Tighter climate policies could erase $2.3 trillion in companies value: report”
Scarcity will increase the value. I’m guessing the power of the climate controllers will be about as significant as OPEC quotas.
And redistribute it to the politically connected that run “green” companies.
Feel kinda bad for the tiger chick. I used to work charity events for Wildlife Waystation back when. There’s a lot of wild animals around here, what with the movie industry.
The thing I don’t get is that every time one of these episodes happens the line is “They were just playing”. Ok, I am perfectly willing to believe that is true. My 6 lb cat used to make me bleed on a regular basis when she was playing. There was no real malice, just play. Now scale that up by 2 orders of magnitude. What the hell did you think was going to happen when a 600 lb cat decided to play?
And cats rather notoriously have a switch in their heads that goes from “play” to “kill” without any warning.
Exactly! I have two cats I love, but have no illusions about their nature. No way I’d mess with a big cat.
Playing is just training for killing for most animals (humans included). That is why there are team games.
The journalist could be seen recoiling in shock and staring off at the man, before composing herself and continuing her broadcast.
“To the man who smacked my butt on live TV this morning: You violated, objectified, and embarrassed me,” Bozarjian tweeted later on Saturday, alongside footage of the on-air assault.
“No woman should EVER have to put up with this at work or anywhere!! Do better.”
The director of the Savannah Sports Council, Robert Wells, responded to her tweet and vowed to find the gross jerk.
“Alex, what happened today is 100% unacceptable. You have my assurance we will identify him,” Wells said.
Caitlyn Penter, a reporter for North Carolina TV station WLOS, tweeted, “DO NOT TOUCH REPORTERS. Period.”
A Savannah Police Department spokesperson told NBC News that authorities have talked with Bozarjian about the incident.
Crime of the century.
Needs ass pix plz.
She’s obviously not a football player.
Her IG is set to private.
Meh. It is not a proper thing to do anyways.
Agreed. Not crime of the century but not cricket either. I’ve had worse from women in bars* etc, and I don’t like being touched as a rule, so I have some empathy with her.
*unexpected, non-consensual… no way I don’t sound like a big prude here, but, well yeah I’m not big on touching
I’ve had worse from men in bars.
Yeah, yeah….. I know…
Actually so have I, but one of those times was a gay bar, so I really should have known better.
A girlfriend chose to publicly break up with me in Hamburger Mary’s in the Hillcrest district of San Diego during Gay Pride.
I think it was a pity grope/kiss.
Why do these Guys keep sucking my dick?
That was thoughtful of her. Slutty emotional support gropes immediately available.
Standing in the way of the runners?
I agree. I’m actually a bit disappointed in the responses here last night. Like I said then, this guy will almost certainly be over punished because of the narrative, but he did commit an actual crime, even under a libertarian legal code battery is a crime, and the “sugar tits” and “dumb ass” stuff seems out of place.
Oh, he definitely committed battery. He better hope they don’t figure out who he is.
They doxxed him before the day was done.
And according to replies I saw, his wife and other unspecified “family members”.
I’m actually a bit disappointed in the responses here last night
Well you assumed consistency. There’s your problem.
???
Ugh I hate twitter-speak.
I commented on it yesterday, but sloopy wasnt around.
Duncan Ferguson if my all-time favorite Evertonian. Hid pregame comment yesterday was ” I want to see blood and thunder”. And he got it.
None of this damn beautiful game bullshit.
They waited long enough. I made a note that they needed to have done this a month ago. They’ll avoid relegation but they were a potential top 6 team this year.
What a waste.
Agreed. They still have to find a manager who can manage them properly. Ferguson claims it isnt him, but if the next few games are as good, I would give him the rest of the season.
He may be ready. Big job for first spot, but no one cares about Everton more than him.
It’s certainly a better job than most. Expectations tend to be realistic on that side of Stanley Park: fight for top six, hope to get a few points off Liverpool, make a run for the FA or League Cup.
They take 4 points from their next three league matches (doable with the way Arsenal are playing) and win their League Cup match against Leicester, and they’ll give him the job.
You have more faith in everton board than I do. These are same people who hired Martinez, Silva, and fat sam.
I miss Fat Sam. He just cracks me up for some reason.
I am a Stoke fan. They may be the worst-run club in England right now. Sad. And preventable.
It’s hard to imagine how cars would be if the government just let us build what we want. The late sixties was about the end of automotive freedom and, coincidentally the peak of interesting and high performance cars. All downhill after that, except for modern performance engines.
The exterior design of modern cars is primarily affected by federal crash test requirements. That’s why so many cars look so much alike. The weight of modern cars is surprising compared to 60’s vehicles.
It would be interesting to have seen how an unfettered market would have evolved. Back in the day, Volvo and Mercedes were light years ahead in safety: crumple zones, collapsing steering wheels, reinforced doors. And they sold plenty to people simply because they were safer.
i suspect a lot of the true safety advances (design and materials) would have happened anyway.
Unpossible. It is a well-known fact that without government telling us what to do, we would be driving death trap cars and eating poison food.
My son hit a 2008 Dodge Nitro from behind. He was driving a 2016 Honda Civic. He was going about 10-15 MPH.
Bumper height difference is everything. She had nary a scratch but some exhaust line damage and his car was totalled. Airbag didn’t even deploy.
We are looking for another car for him. Ugh.
80 mpg?
A co-worker had the the original Honda Insight with a manual transmission. He commuted over 100 miles a day round-trip, drove like and absolute maniac, and averaged 75 mpg. Sold the car for what he originally paid for it.
This is where I find myself with a moral dilemma…which I will pose to the gearhead readership:
IF you had to kill Baby Hitler or Baby Nader, who would it be? Sure Hitler did some bad things, but he also helped bring us the Beetle and Kombi, not to mention the Microbus. Nader, on the other hand…
Killing Nader wouldn’t have made a difference, some other asshole would have taken his place.
Same with Hitler most likely.
I was at a car show and some dude with a Corvair had a copy of Unsafe At Any Speed on the dash. I laughed.
Killing baby Rachel Carson could be more effective.
No, no I am assured that DDT is not banned! The wiki says that exemptions for certain government approved uses have been granted on a case by case basis, so totally not banned.
No, you want to go for William Vogt. He was the one who mutated the Autobon Society and started the anti-science environmental movement that Carson was a part of.
I read that as Nadler, who also is unsafe at any weight.
Uhh…no comment.
Baby Woodrow Wilson is the correct answer.
While there’s no doubt the market would have far more interesting and even higher performing vehicles, a 1967 Ford Mustang GT did 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and a quarter mile in 15.4 seconds. About the same as a 2011 Ford Edge or a 2015 Mazda3 GT. Oh, and did I mention the Edge has all the modern safety features, gets better mileage, and can hold a family of Catholics comfortably? Did I mention the Mazda has a kick ass sound system, all the interior creature comforts, has 4 doors, gets more than 30 mpg, and is about 100x more reliable?
Just imagine what a 2019 Ford Mustang GT would look like – oh wait, they exist and it goes 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
Nostalgia is a powerful drug.
Yeah…. put a classic 1970’s Lamborghini Countach alongside a current sports sedan. There’s no contest. Handles better, faster to 60… the only thing might be top speed… The lambo is supposed to be around 180. Most sports sedans are limited, so you might not get 180.
Still…. You can get a hell of a sports sedan for $60k, and carry your wife, 2 kids and luggage in relative comfort.
The world is kinda amazing these days, if you stop and look back.
There’s something missing in new cars. Call it what you want, but a 1969 ss/rs camaro, parked next to a 2010 ss version and it’s plain which one is cooler. Nostalgia? Maybe, but it’s very real. Nobody is going to get a Dodge neon tattoo or spend a decade restoring one to it’s former glory.
“I can tell you that we are looking very hard at uncovering his motive and I would ask for patience so we can get this right,” she said, adding that agents were “working tirelessly to discern if any possible ideology may have been a factor in this attack.”
Bullying.
Was that from the ass-slapping article? I wouldn’t be surprised if it were.
This shit’s going too far.

It’s hard to tell with these damn Amish. Either he was expressing his religion of peace to the English, or he was angry the commissary put too much molasses in the shoo fly pie.
Hmm, who is it that’s all alone as #1 seed in the AFC? With 9 wins in a row?
Technically, there’s only ever a single 1-seed from each conference. So I don’t get your point.
-pedant
How about teams with identical records, either 1-1 head to head or no head to head, identical division and conference records? (serious question, I don’t know where the tiebreaker goes after that)
Head to head
Division record( if same division)
Common games
Conference games
Strength of victory
Strength of schedule
A bunch of pt related tiebreakers
A bunch of td related tiebreakers
Coin toss
I did that off top of head, may have missed something.
I think it’s conference games before common games. Otherwise that looks right to me.
Common is first within division. Conference is first outside division
I had to look it up, I thought common was first for both.
The Arizona Glitterbacks?
Not much glitter there, the Cardinals should go back to Chicago instead of being snowbirds. Pitiful team.
I didn’t watch the game yesterday, but from the box score it does look like the #1 drafted rookie QB under an alleged QB whisperer HC got outplayed by an undrafted rookie under a coach with a background in secondary and wide receiver play.
(of course, opponent adjustments…)
Enjoy your spot, OM. Hopefully your new star won’t murder anyone or grow a unibrow, so you can actually be proud of him. (in before serial sexual assault riposte)
Kyler Murray may be too dumb to be a successful QB. Sad, but true.
See you in February.
It’s hard to imagine how cars would be if the government just let us build what we want.
I’d say significantly lighter, for one thing.
Pretty sure the lightness trend is a response to Obama’s mpg mandates. The new stuff is so flimsy, it’s breaking just from potholes, no accident needed.
Good morning, Sloopy!
Nice lynx today. You selected all websites that enabled me to leave my adblocker running. I appreciate it!
The Russian ban really isn’t. If the athletes can pass a screen they are in, just not under the The Olympics have sucked for years, anyway.
I don’t understand the fixation with wild animals as pets. My dog is wild enough.
That may be a polarizing song choice, but it brings back great memories for me. Well done!
I hope you all had a nice weekend and are energized for a productive week. Or at least energized enough to deflect, obsfucate and stall. Whatever works.
Crucial right there for actually clicking the links. Not to complain about others’ links, its just hard to see any of them if 3/4 are adblock sensitive.
Riding in the car on Saturday with Mrs. Salsa and she says some sweet words to get me going. IYKWIM
“It seems like farmers have an excuse ever year as to why they need money from the government.”
I don’t know what would have happened if she would have whispered “Taxation is theft.” to me.
“Dear Glib Forum…. I never thought this would happen to me….”
SP’s favorite sweet nothing is “Fuck off, slaver.”
And that’s when you unshackle her from the back of the van, right?
Maybe the other way around. She is the most fearsome person you will ever meet.
*nods solemnly*
This was actually a great year to have a trade war with China. Here in Minnesoda (and I’ve heard the same from a lot of NoDaks) the crop was terrible. Weather kept them from getting it planted on time and then storms kept them from getting it in.
The farmers won’t come out and say so, but if they weren’t getting a truckful of cash from the Feds to compensate them for their “losses” due to the trade war with China, they would all have had to scream bloody murder to get more disaster money.
Well, that’s not NICE. Are you sure those are Mn farmers or those awful gigantic agri-corps that are feeding millions world wide?
The NoDak farmers I know are both. It is an extended family who started their own agri-corp to really maximize the amount of money they can extort from the Feds while simultaneously decreasing their taxes.
Around here many crops were either terrible/never planted or many crops that were good were very difficult, if not impossible, to harvest. I know thousands of acres of sugar beets were left in the ground. And there is a LOT of corn still standing. It’s so wet they’re going to let it freeze-dry and harvest it later this winter/early spring.
The FBI is presuming the Pensacola NAS shooting as a terrorist attack.
How insensitive. It is clearly just a little workplace violence.
From the “don’t mess with nature” section of the news, volcano erupts in NZ five dead.
Was global warming blamed already?
Do they have fracking in New Zealand?
Top scientists confirmed today that it was due to orangemanbad.

“Saudi Pensacola shooter was left ‘infuriated’ after instructor nicknamed him ‘Porn Stash’ due to his mustache in front of his classmates and filed an official complaint earlier this year”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7771131/Saudi-Pensacola-shooter-left-infuriated-instructor-nicknamed-Porn-Stash.html
OFFS!
I mean, murdering people is a completely reasonable response to being made fun of for your mustache. It’s that instructors fault.
Of course the instructor is going to get screwed. Not the people who ignored the complaint. Because when a tradgedy happens people need to know that it was preventable and blame who didn’t prevent it, no matter how tenuous the tie. Then in another year when the instructor kills himself the military will shrug and be like “Why would he do that?”
*checks picture*
The instructor isn’t wrong here.
This is the lamest excuse for ducking an investigation into actual motive I’ve ever seen.
Any other ex-military here sort of miffed at the AF fucks in those pictures wearing cammies instead of a dress uniform? WTF? Are you so desperate to pretend you aren’t glorified bus drivers that you have to play “army” instead of putting on your dress uniform to pay final respects to a fellow serviceman?
Outside a hotel 2 AF officers are talking, as a taxi arrives. Lady gets out and asks, “Would one of you boys carry my suitcases to the desk?”
Yes. Former AF. It’s a reaction to an earlier civilianization of the service where I actually remember AF personnel being upset we were supposed to kill people sometimes.
Now, everyone is a “Warrior”.
Every pilot gets a nickname/call sign. Some of them are not super-complimentary. Trying to recall some of the ones I have seen painted on aircraft, but drawing a blank.
SomeAlmost all of them are not super-complimentary.That’s my understanding at least.
Ice Man? Maverick?
Fake.
And both should have been grounded permanantly, if not cashiered.
What’s the word on Pearl Harbor? That one sounded like a love triangle.
I didn’t even make it halfway through that crappy movie. Yeah, there was supposed to be a love triangle between Affleck, Hartnett and Beckinsdale, but it was just stupid, stupid, stupid.

I can’t see because ad block. Did she have an ass installed?
it… is… a… joke
The Mail? Well, yeah — but don’t let that stop you and Potato from posting links to it all the time….. 😉
Potato just posts Demi. I post anything but Demi.

If everyone playing board games was a 60 year old daigo wearing suit pants, wife beaters, and silk suspenders, that actually sounds exactly like Xmas at my grandparents.

Re Russia ban: You say ‘Wow’ but people in the article complain Wada/it doesn’t go far enough!
Has anyone blamed Trump yet?
Lemme get something here. Whenever they argue for a bail out one of the principle reasons is because it would cause too much collateral damage to businesses if not implemented. I see the famous ‘all the companies in the supply chain of GM would go under’. And if they go under, so do their mortgages, consumption and so on.
But here, it’s totes ok to eradicate value in companies because earth?
It’s madness.
All this proves is the goal is SYSTEM change. Not climate change.
Statesmen
There is little doubt that many Republican senators will remain loyal to Trump. But others have a different political concern — getting re-elected in 2020. Republican Sens. Cory Gardner, Susan Collins and Thom Tillis don’t necessarily benefit from a protracted partisan drama on the Senate floor. They all need more than Trump base voters to get elected.
There are also a few Republican Sens. like Rob Portman, Lamar Alexander and Mitt Romney who still have respect for the dignity of the Senate and may balk at the firebrands who want to politically burn down the building.
Remember, kids, the Democrats currently engaged in turning the House into a three ring flea circus are the ones who respect the offices and institutions established by the Constitution.
I was talking to my wife about this. By my accounting… The Dems need 17 more votes to remove the president (49 + 17 = 67). So for this to come out a winner for the dems they really need this to cause the senate to flip at the election. Perhaps that is what they are after, because starting an impeachment when you are no where close to having the votes to complete it sounds like textbook wasting peoples money and time.
Then again they can at least finally say “Hey we think Donald Trump is terrible and we did what we could”.
FYI, they need 20, as your calcs were still operating on pre-2018 numbers (the Rs picked up two seats last election, the current breakdown is 53/45/2 R/D/I). I think the whole thing is a “we did what we could”, as I can’t imagine they think they can realistically flip that many Rs.
They love the Constitution, except for all the parts about limiting the government and protecting individual rights.
But they love the shit out of the commerce clause, and penumbras bro. Totes makes up for it.

Revealed: the depth of Labour anti‑semitism
Jeremy Corbyn’s zero-tolerance claims are ‘lies’, according to whistleblowers who have leaked documents that show few of his measures to tackle racism have been enacted. Insight report by Gabriel Pogrund, Jonathan Calvert and George Arbuthnott

On Sunday, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) predicted on CNN that President Donald Trump was “going to cower in the corner” because of his guilt, referring to the so-called impeachment inquiry.
Wasserman Schultz said, “What came to my mind when I heard that he again refused to participate in his own defense is that the innocent defend themselves vigorously and vociferously, the guilty hide, obstruct, lie and obfuscate. It’s very clear that President Trump is going to cower in the corner because he is absolutely guilty of all of those— of an abuse of power, of obstructing Congress, of trying to get a foreign power to interfere in our elections for his own personal and political benefit and withheld vital foreign aid that was appropriations law.”
“And if those aren’t impeachable offenses, then as one of the constitutional scholars said last week, nothing is,” she continued. “The Founding Fathers intended for us to not allow any president to be above the law, and that’s what we’re proceeding with this week, so that we can make sure that the American people can have confidence in their elected officials that we’ll uphold our oath that we swore to defend the Constitution which the president has violated.”
That’s all you needed really.
“The Founding Fathers intended for us to not allow any president to be above the law, and that’s what we’re proceeding with this week, so that we can make sure that the American people can have confidence in their elected officials that we’ll uphold our oath that we swore to defend the Constitution which the president has violated.”
I mean, it’s okay to be above the law and violate the constitution as long as he doesn’t do what we don’t like.
I’m just glad to hear about this newfound love the Dems have for defending the Constitution. That means that they won’t be thinking of trying to pass any new gun control laws, right?
Or supporting all the undeclared wars.
I truly loathe her and Dems who talk about the framers because it’s so nakedly cynical. She would call them ‘old dead white men’ when and if convenient.
Plus this twat called Ken Cuccinelli a ‘white supremacist’ in Congress without a shred of prove.
She’s a despicable politician AND person.
Plus this twat called Ken Cuccinelli a ‘white supremacist’
Curious considering he is Italian or something. But, according to Dems there are many melanin laden white-supremacists these days.
It’s a mystery. The KKK didn’t like Catholics or Jews but apparently they love Trump and his Jews and Cuccinelli?
They’re effed up in the head Dems.
But I think it’s all part of an overall strategy for Hilary. It’s the only way to explain why they’re willing to be such liars.
It’s because most Democrats have never met an actual White Supremacist. Real white supremacy is so rare these days that it’s not surprising. So you get them expanding it to anyone who is overly patriotic or might have said some insensitive things about other people. They don’t get that no-shit white supremacists Only count WASPs as white. Southern Europeans are right out.
Shows what they know. I have a geography book that classifies Italy as an ‘Alpine’ state.
The southern part falls under classical Mediterranean for sure but the north is obviously closer tied into northern terrain connected with France, Austria and Switzerland.
It wasn’t the Lombards or Tyrolians who migrated here. Give it up muppet, you don’t get a White card any more than my (((ass does.
She’s full of it. There’s nothing to defend himself from because they haven’t officially accused him of anything. And even if they did, it’s obvious to everyone what the vote is going to be. This isn’t a court, it’s a popularity contest. Why would he waste his time on that?
“Wasserman Schultz said, “What came to my mind when I heard that he again refused to participate in his own defense is that the innocent defend themselves vigorously and vociferously…”

Family of nine ‘surviving on just £480 a month’ after benefits slashed by cap
Ryan Rodgers, 26, and Jenny Grimes, 25, say they have no option but to launch an appeal on GoFundMe after moving to Universal Credit which has seen their benefits dramatically cut

I’m going to guess that neither was employed and they spent their time doing nothing but expanding their family.
employment is exploitation
She is about a 9 on the Brit scale.
She bloody isn’t! That’s at least an eleven, mate. Both eyes are pointing in the same direction, for a start.
I deducted 1 point for her looking more manly than her husband.

Swivel your hips to slap it against the sides. It makes a wicked echo and you can sort of get into a rhythm and get some Peter Gabriel weird percussion going on.

Jesus, I would have thought a British 7 at most. That is like a 5, even in the Midwest.
What I hate about these stories is they never explain if they had jobs and if they did why did they lose them; assuming they had jobs to begin with.

Or will he go out and get a 2nd tattoo on his neck?
Love the appeal to Christmas. Hon, Christmas is canceled until you and Daz get your shit together.
The fact that he is asking for help, not for a job referral, and complaining about the amount of help he is already getting indicates something to me.
Or where their families are. If their own families won’t help out, why should the rest of us care? My gut feeling tells me that if they can’t get help from their own blood, it is a good indicator that these losers don’t deserve a penny of support.
Yarp.
I bet they’re chavs.
*clicks*
Yep
I’m not up to speed with young slang but how do you know they’re chavs?
Just asking so I’ll know for next time. Lol.
Chavs are the Florida Man of England.
Neck tattoo, for one.
Also, I may be wrong, but having kids is for Chavs, right? Proper Brits don’t fuck anymore, iirc.
THUNDER & TARNATION!!!! I’m on my 3rd can of Canada Dry ginger ale (out of a 12 pack) that is wholly uncarbonated. I don’t really care about losing the sody-pop, but each of these flat, depressing drinks is wasting 3+ ounces of Bourbon, and some expensive cherry juice.
What a silly thing to drink.
3 ounces of Wild Turkey 101, a big splash of black cherry juice, a big splash of peach juice, shake with ice, strain into imperial pint glass and fill with ginger ale or ginger beer. I call it l0b0t’s Folly and it is delicious.
it is delicious. – if you are a college girl, maybe…

At 9am?
I work overnights. So, I just got home from work and I have two consecutive days off (which is rare). I have to get soused, then sober up in time to fetch the kids from school this afternoon.
Carry on.
That sounds pretty good to me, if I drank sugar. Or alcohol…
Actually, there is a craft bar down the street from work and I might stop by for one some time and ask them to make this.

But she’s cute. So that’s something. (as long as Finland avoids going the way of Sweden…)
It’s sobering to remember that all of these starry-eyed girls coming out of college that want to change the world by fiat are highly motivated to seek office and positions of power.
Also consider that they’re not qualified to have actual productive careers and that government is the only thing they could “succeed” at.
Using history to understand hidden wealth in the UK
Neil Cummins 08 December 2019
Sharp declines in the concentration of declared wealth occurred across Europe and the US during the 20th century. But the rich may have been hiding much of their wealth. This column introduces a new method to measure this hidden wealth, in any form. It finds that between 1920 and 1992, English elites concealed 20-32% of their wealth. Accounting for hidden wealth eliminates one-third of the observed decline of top 10% wealth share over the past century.
https://voxeu.org/article/using-history-understand-hidden-wealth-uk#.Xez9vziuyIc.twitter
While I am sure hidden wealth is a think, trying to quantify it seems to me like the department of extracting numbers from one’s drug stashing area
Envy is ugly.
Hmmmm… I wonder why they did that?
To prove Europe is tops at wealth inequality not you US pretenders?
I meant why did they hide it?

I watched the one episode in which this buddy of mine from grade school/high school was the “Chicano gang member” with a speaking role – but that’s about it.
Nobody watched it for Randi Oakes?

Joe Biden is dismissing calls from President Trump and his allies that Biden testify during an impeachment trial in the Senate, saying any effort to compel his testimony should be viewed as part of a strategy to distract from the president’s conduct.
“No, I’m not going to let you take the eye off the ball here. Everybody knows what this is about,” the former vice president told NPR when asked whether he would cooperate with a subpoena. “This is a Trump gambit he plays. Whenever he’s in trouble he tries to find someone else to divert attention to.”
——-
“Nobody warned me about a potential conflict of interest. Nobody warned me about that,” Biden said. He added, “They should have told me.”
Despite the optics, the former vice president underscored that his son did nothing improper.
“The appearance looked bad and it gave folks like Rudy Giuliani an excuse to come up with a Trumpian kind of defense, while they were violating the Constitution,” Biden said.
We’ve always done it this way. I don’t know why anybody is even talking about this. Trump is the bad guy.
while they were violating the Constitution,
Sorry to go OT on this but one of the charges on “Articles of Impeachment” i heard the democrats were considering was “Threatening our National Security”. Because we didn’t give the Ukranians Money. You know cause he wants to set a foreign policy not endorsed by the entitled snobs at the state department.
We need to burn down the whole thing, withdraw all our embasies and fire all the State Department staff. If people want to talk to us they can come here. Then see how those brats feel when they don’t have the power they aren’t supposed to have.
And end all “foreign aid” which is a nice way of saying money-laundering, corruption, and bribery.
Because we didn’t give the Ukranians Money.
Obama never gave them any weapons.
Trump did, after a delay of a few months.
Totally. Disconnected. From. Sanity.
“The appearance” was the problem.
I do a lot of work with actual conflicts of interest. And this was an actual, not a mere appearance of, a conflict of interest because Biden was in charge of Ukraine policy,
I do a lot of resolutions of conflicts of interest, and I don’t believe that any competent corporate lawyer, or board chair, would have settled for anything other than Biden recusing himself from anything having to do with Ukraine or any other country where his son held a position.
I tried to explain to someone once, that Hillary violated at least half of the ethics training that I have to do every year. Most of the violations would be sufficient for immediate termination.
Uncle Joe’s tenure as VP was only half a step behind Hillary’s tenure as Sec State.

Let’s continue to make shit up because Orange Man Bad
Citing the constitutional provision that impeachment applies to “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” the report hints throughout that President Trump might have committed treason against the United States.
The Constitution specifically defines treason in Article III, Section 3: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
The House Judiciary Committee report, however, expands that definition to include what it calls “betrayal,” and declares: “Although the Framers did not intend impeachment for good faith disagreements on matters of diplomacy, they were explicit that betrayal of the Nation through schemes with foreign powers justified that remedy.”
The phrase “schemes with foreign powers” is sufficiently vague to include the “quid pro quo” plan that Democrats allege the president attempted to make with Ukraine, trading U.S. aid for investigation into a political opponent.
I mean…. The Dems going after Treason would be the cherry on top of this whole thing. If it’s not going to succeed, why not go big?
The constant use of the word “framers” seems a little too on the nose in a sham trial.
‘or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
Something about arming Al Queda in Syria seems to fit the bill.
Age of Invention: Exploding Telegraphs
https://antonhowes.substack.com/p/age-of-invention-exploding-telegraphs
The greatest of these lobbyist-inventors has to be Bryan Donkin, a nineteenth-century mechanical engineer. As an inventor, Donkin improved threshing machines, dredging machinery, and a variety of other tools. He invented the steel pen, dabbled in chemistry, as well as phrenology, and was one of the key people responsible for mechanising the production of paper. He became best known for improving and commercialising tin cans for food. Mechanised paper-making and canned food, having both been invented in France, were perfected in Britain by Donkin. He was the archetypal tinkerer.
But it’s as a lobbyist that I think Donkin was truly exceptional. His experience has important lessons for all would-be supporters of invention today.
Now that’s a misleading title
His experience has important lessons for all would-be supporters of invention today.
Um… What? Is invention a big partisan issue?

Wealth gives people options. Socialism is about taking away people’s options. Environmentalism is just international socialism dressed in green. They don’t call ’em watermelons for nuthin’. The green movement is about destroying people’s ability to create wealth. Nothing more. It is a power grab.
How long before some prominent Dem publicly denounces the HK protesters? I have been in kind of a news blackout so for all I know they have done it already.
There was some talk the other day about the Saudi people and their attitude towards America. I suggested that the Wahibbist movement was mainly among the upper classes and that the rest of the people liked us. This is one of the reasons I say that, the terrorists seem to always be from the upper class….engineers, doctors, pilots, etc.

“We were devoid of a fundamental understanding of Afghanistan — we didn’t know what we were doing,” Douglas Lute, a three-star Army general who served as the White House’s Afghan war czar during the Bush and Obama administrations, told government interviewers in 2015. He added: “What are we trying to do here? We didn’t have the foggiest notion of what we were undertaking.”
No shit, Captain Obvious.
But we can’t leave now. Even though we never knew what we were doing, it’s only if we leave that makes those boys deaths in vain. Fuck Bush, Fuck Obama, and Fuck Trump for being a dickless coward and not handing every General who refused to do his orders a trip to the private sector.
Sunk costs and the only way to recover is to sink more costs,. Let’s start with politicians’ kids.
You know what they say, if you find yourself in a hole, bomb a baby-formula factory so no one notices you are still digging.
This story gives Trump new cover for calling for a complete drawdown.
I have it on good authority that either we haven’t won in Afghanistan, because we’re playing with kid gloves or if you support ending any war overseas you’re likely a Russian asset.
There’s more than one way to say “war harder”
Everyone involved in ‘nation building’ in Afghanistan needs to be slapped unconscious, stripped of their jobs and ranks, their bank accounts emptied, companies closed and cast into the wilderness. Fucking idiots and crooks looting the treasury on the pretense of a fool’s errand.

Oh FFS. There are more of these impeachment hearings. Can you imagine thinking, “After a week of Schiff, the thing that will really get the public behind us is a week of Nadler”?
Maybe they were thinking “After a week of Schiff, could it get any worse?”
Nadler is a bad joke.
I was amused when he decided to get in on the TERF/Tranny Wars and side with the trannies. Giving shit to a Rachel Maddow clone on CSPAN is not a good look for him, particularly when it meant agreeing with the batshit transgender witnesses.
The Dems have painted themselves into a corner on that one. No dissent will be tolerated.
Maybe he’s a tranny. Would like to see what he transitioned from.
Would like to know what he didn’t transition to human.
Well… I think i’m finally ok to talk about it.
I’ve come to terms with it. Utah will never win a PAC 12 Championship. If they couldn’t do it with this team, they won’t ever be able to. We’ll always be the “Good enough to be talked about team, and then loose when it comes to the game.
I didn’t even care about getting into the Playoffs, cause we didn’t have a chance. I just wanted them to win the PAC 12.
Well Here’s to being Eternal Division Champs or lower.
Could be worse. You could root for Michigan. Or Tennessee.
“The author thinks Einsteins theory of relativity is undermined by an underrepresentation of women in physics, and justify this by refering to Eintsteins work on inertial reference frames.
The author claims that Einstein had an intersectional theory of black oppressed women which show that their underrepresentation in physics can’t be because of their lack of qualifications.
It’s a problem that particle physicists don’t consider the ways in which the transatlantic slave trade affects their bias.”

Nuclear fusion is a social practice.
She’s rehashing old ground for postmodernists. Namely, that special relativity precludes an objective frame of reference and every viewpoint is therefore valid. Therefore, proper physical observations require an equitable distribution of observers with varying skin colors and genders.
This is postmodernism in a nutshell. Yet people actually buy into this bullshit, primarily because they live in an academic bubble.
It reminds me a bit of the “Magical” interpretations of quantum physics. It’s not good when your whole argument is based on equivocation.
Einstein showed that “all observers are equally competent”. He Proved Post Modernism right.
Now what if my observations are that other observers are not competent?
Einstein didn’t kill himself, did he? He proved Post Mordem, right?
I take it this is the pool that Boeing has been hiring from lately.

Does…. does lightning really work that way?
Given all of the examples of roadrunner/coyote physics in a movie like that, you pick on the lightning?
Yes, because it has almost no mass and zero stiffness.
Normally no… but remember this version of Wonder Woman is an actual daughter of Zeus. If her Dad could toss around lightning bolts forged by Hephaestus, I don’t think the bolts being solid enough for her (and only her) to hold or lasso is a stretch of the foundations of the myth.
My thoughts amount to “Looks fun… please DC, don’t screw this one up!”
I’m not really their target audience, I saw the first one on an airplane, and it was a solid meh(even with the eye candy), but everyone else seemed to really like it, dunno why.
Huh.

But Gal Gadot is seriously one of the greatest women on the planet. Ex-IMF, amazing personality, and you know, nice … other .. things.
Fuck the rich
While supportive of a wealth tax, Lily Batchelder is one of the legal scholars worried about the Supreme Court. She’s a law professor at NYU and the former Deputy Director of the National Economic Council under President Obama. We recently spoke with her at NYU, and she pitched us an alternative to the wealth tax.
Instead of just straight up taxing people’s wealth, Batchelder says, the government could instead be more aggressive in taxing the gains from wealth. What she proposes is known as an accrual tax.
——-
But beyond facing lower tax rates, people with investment income have another huge benefit: the power to defer taxation. Under current law, the federal government taxes salaries and wages every year, but it generally doesn’t tax investment income until investments are sold or exchanged.
“So when, say, Jeff Bezos owns stock that’s worth billions of dollars, but he hasn’t sold it, he doesn’t pay tax on all that appreciation,” Batchelder says. “And it would be perfectly constitutional to tax that appreciation as it accrues before he sells the stock.” The 16th Amendment hands the federal government broad power to tax income, and the gains from investments, even if just on paper, are arguably a type of income.
The gap between how the federal government treats labor income and investment income hands the rich a whole smorgasbord of tax avoidance strategies. They can, for example, decide to get paid in lower-taxed stocks instead of higher-taxed salaries. And they can avoid taxes by not selling their stocks and meanwhile borrow money at cheaper rates thanks to their ballooning, untaxed fortunes. Accountants and lawyers have a field day with these sorts of opportunities.
All of which is why Batchelder is supportive of new tax proposals by Democrats that would have the government tax the investment income of the ultra-rich like it taxes ordinary income – not only at the same rate, but also in the same way.
——-
Proposals for accrual taxes face similar criticisms to the wealth tax. The policy would require, for instance, significant resources to administer. It could distort saving and investment decisions and have unintended consequences for the broader economy. And while proposals on the table include measures to avoid such problems, it’s possible the tax could be hard on some taxpayers who look rich on paper but are in fact short on the cash needed to pay the tax.
GIMME!GIMME!GIMME!
Fuck you cut spending.
“So when, say, Jeff Bezos owns stock that’s worth billions of dollars, but he hasn’t sold it, he doesn’t pay tax on all that appreciation,” Batchelder says. “And it would be perfectly constitutional to tax that appreciation as it accrues before he sells the stock.”
What’s the name of the rule. No matter what policy you are advocating, you can find a law professor that will find support for your stance on it in the constitution.
That’s one way to collapse the stock market.
It’s only fair.
Exactly. Want to make huge amounts of wealth blow away like smoke? Start seizing stocks.
But that is the point, isn’t it?
The U.S. could probably retire the national debt by using this approach to tax the absurd valuations that Shark Tank presenters use for their incubator “businesses.”
Former deputy director of the president’s national economic council. Not some 20 year old dipshit commie college kid. A real live adult that was in a position of power and influence to the most powerful man in the world.

Highly credentialed public intellectuals advocate patently absurd ideas. Over and over. Ruling class is shocked at the rising tide of anti-intellectualism among the public.
Here is “best” way to do the accrual tax:
1. End corporate taxation
2. End capital gains taxation
3. Make all corporations pass thru entities
I think you need a
4. Flat income tax rates
To avoid some gamesmanship around ex-tax date, unless you overcomplicated the tax calculation.

The Senate Impeachment trial should be fun…
Former Ukraine Prosecutor Shokin: Joe Biden “Outraged We Seized Burisma Assets”, Could No Longer Pay His Son…
‘Senator Lindsey Graham is directly connected to the group of U.S. politicians who were participating in the influence network within Ukraine. One of the downstream consequences of Rudy Giuliani investigating the Ukraine corruption and money laundering operation to U.S. officials is that it ends up catching Senator Graham.
Hence, earlier today Senator Graham said he would not permit Senate impeachment testimony that touched on this corrupt Ukraine aspect.’
*sarcastic shocked face*
In essence Senator Graham is fearful that too much inquiry into what took place with Ukraine from 2014 through 2016 will expose his own participation and effort along with former Ambassador Marie Yovanovich.
Lutsenko is the real problem for them as he is more credible than Shokin. He should probably barricade himself in this house. There’s no shortage of people that would like to see him disappear.
I’m sad about that Russia thing. This weekend Canada hosted an international sled hockey tournament. It always ends up USA vs Canada which is getting kind of boring. But this time Russia had a team. They came in third but beat Canada in one of the games. They are already very competitive. But forgot about that in future because now they’re banned. Sigh.

Not me. That’s one custom I like!
Aside from the fact that I now do it unconsciously. Fortunately only when I’m speaking Japanese. Amazing how you pick up non-verbal communication. Although I don’t do the one handed “swipe” meaning negation or small apology.
Yeah, but do you do it while speaking Japanese on the phone?
Yes, yes I do.

“These kids think they’re going to get killed anyway because all their friends are getting killed,” Bloomberg said during the speech. “So they just don’t have any longterm focus or anything. It’s a joke to have a gun. It’s a joke to pull a trigger.”…
National media outlets latched onto that portion of the discussion, in which Bloomberg said one method to deal with the issue is to “throw them up against the wall and frisk them,” referring to the controversial stop-and-frisk tactics New York City implemented during Bloomberg’s tenure….
About 95 percent of murders are credited to young, male minorities, he claimed, adding that motives are usually associated with drugs or domestic disputes.
“One of the unintended consequences is people say, ‘Oh my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana. They’re all minorities,’” Bloomberg said. “Yes, that’s true. Why? Because we put all the cops in the minority neighborhoods. Yes, that’s true. Why do you do it? Because that’s where all the crime is.”
Something something gun-control something something racist.
WTF is wrong with that guy?
I don’t blame him.
The people of New York City actually voted for him. And then did it again. And the press just goes right along with all the nonsense.
If you have a politician who pushes through a ban on large sodas and you vote for him again ….. that’s on you.
I don’t doubt for a minute that the majority of people of NYC, and the decent folks in the minority communities, support these kind of stop and frisk procedures.
And then did it again.
And lest we forget, a third time too. They literally changed the term limits law for him, they liked him so much.
Although I will say (as an outsider) that he does seem to have been a better mayor than the current one, low bar that that is.
“Bloomberg L.P. argued that in order to save lives, police should seize guns from male minorities between ages 15 and 25.”
If we’re being honest, this is a mainstream position among progressives. The only problem is that Bloomberg didn’t dance around it and said what the rest of them dare not admit.
Various progressive schemes, like imposing a punitive tax on bullets or requiring gun owners to have insurance, etc. all have the same effect: disarming lower-income people, while merely inconveniencing higher income people. And that’s really how “gun bans” always work out: the people with resources and criminals are able to attain a gun if they want it, while law abiding people with fewer means are left disarmed.
His stats are way off, I think its only like 75%.
Makes me wonder if he’s actually running for VP. This positions him well as life insurance for the person who would be the (D) president – one more point so far to the left that no right-winger would shoot the president if that would put this freak in the oval office,
Is that real, or another one of these satire sites?
(It’s getting harder to tell the difference)
I snagged a contract gig in Shanghai this week. The first couple days are a little tough but things will smooth out. One of the nicest aspects of this deal is that they put me up in one of the top hotels in the city – sweet. Finished the day’s tasks and tomorrow’s prep so I’m chillin’ with Mr. J. Walker in my room.
Glibertarians is not banned in China? Dude, this site is really not living up to its potential if Chicoms are cool with it
It is because we are family friendly.
In truth I would lay down money that this declaration on our site might have something to do with it.
I think it is a warning to their citizens: This is what happens in America, where people are ‘free’. Do you want China to devolve to this level of depravity?
I doubt it translates well. I’d bet they don’t know what to make of it. It ticks me off that I can’t see my g-mail account here. I should have asked a bit more about some of that kind of stuff.
Tips for Shanghai:
1 – Get a good VPN before you go. It helps if you talk to someone in China, but I can recommend ones I’ve used.
2 – Have an overseas cell plan. I use AT&T’s international plan that charges me $10/day while I’m there but it gives me continuous coverage like I’m back in the states.
3 – You won’t need adapters as US plugs go into Chinese outlets (IYKWI- wait, never mind that).
4 – Make sure if you have time to take the ferry between the Bund side (Old Shanghai) and Pudong (new side, where all of the skyscrapers are)
5 – Speaking of which, there is an intersection on Pudong that has three of the top 20 tallest buildings in the world and you can shoot a picture straight up at all three of them from the corner while waiting for the light to change.
Hit me up if you have questions – I hereby allow TPTB to release my email to you. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and the weather was nice.
Have fun – it’s an amazing city.
I was in Shanghai a year ago. The VPN situation was bad. I tried three different VPNs: two of them never worked, the other one worked only sporadically and not for long. I could read my Gmail emails on the phone when it was using cellular data–not when it was connected to the hotel wifi. However, I was able to connect to my US-based office computer using gotomypc. That was the only way I could have some work done.
If I had the tools, skill, and motivation, I would grab that video of that guy in the restraint chair getting interrogated by the CN good squad and put in some hilarious new subtitles. But I don’t have any of those things.
Shanghai is also one of those “problem areas” for the Chicoms.
Any one have any experience with dryer lint / petroleum jelly fire starters? I’m looking to make some fire starters that work from -10F to 100F ambient temp and that are shelf stable if sealed in a plastic bag for multiple years. I’ve made some with parafin wax and wood chips, but those melt at about 100F, and when sealed inside of a bag or pack are no good.
The internet tells me that patroleum jelly freezes at like 38 degrees. Does it still catch easily if frozen?
This is going in my “oh shit” kit for my truck, and we live
on Fucking HothMN, so preferably it should work all year long.I do have hexane fire starters in this kit, so I could conceivably light some hexane and place a puck of patroelum jelled lint on top of that to thaw it and light it.
Or alternatively, is there some other inexpensive propellant that won’t dry out like sterno and that works in such a wide temperature range? The plan is to make a bunch, use them as our regular fire starter (to develop skill in their use) and have some of them in the fire kit to supplement the hexane (because redundancy).
Put some in the freezer and report back.
I’m going to, but just gathering intro before I get started. Hopefully (fuck) it will get down to -10 before too long and I can really test this stuff out.
Try these.
Thanks! What are those? Is it just a kindling birdsnest, or something different?
Cotton balls and Vaseline. Keep them separate until you need them.
Tips from my Boy Scouting / Rambo-wannabe days.
I take that partly back, you do need some heat to make them (melting the Vaseline) so preparation does need to be performed.
Does the petroleum jelly degrade the cotton or something? I’ve done the thing where you wipe the cotton through the jelly and light it, and it works great. But I’ve never let them sit for weeks for months.
Not sure. I always prepped them before going on camping trips so I don’t know what the long term storage issues might be. I prefer them because the components are readily available.
I always used old newpaper and used cooking oil.
Kept some around for over a year in a plastic baggie. It turned rancid, but still worked. Never really tried it in cold weather or whatever, apparently canola freezes around 15 degrees*. Cottonseed oil doesn’t freeze until -55.
*This is why god created nature’s pocket.
Screw your canola. Use rape seed oil.
Mineral oil is liquid to -22F and doesn’t flash until 335F, or so the Internet tells me. And it doesn’t dry out. And I have like 5 bottles in the basement because I purchased a six-pack from amazon a while ago.
I might use that.
Not flaxseed oil?
Also…
STEVE SMITH GIVE RAPE SEED TO ALL HIKERS. HIM GIVE BURNING SENSATION TOO.
Canada didn’t rename Flaxseed.
That whooshed right over me. I still like my response though.
Keep the petroleum jelly in an airtight container. Have some small ziplok baggies with that stash. When you need to make a fire, if the petroleum jelly is frozen scrape, cut, break up some of it and put it in a baggie then warm the baggie with your body heat. Mix with cotton and start your fire.
In a cold weather survival situation, I’m not putting a cold solid against my skin if I can avoid it. But there will be single-use chemical hand warmers in my kit…
Dryer lint was one of the very few things that would ignite with one of those spark “fire starters” when I was a boy scout.
“Richard Jewel” is coming out, so I bopped over to Rotten Tomatoes to see what the reaction is. 83% on the Tomato Meter. I read two of the negative reviews. Both reviews were “I don’t agree with Clint Eastwood’s politics and this movie sucks because it is full of MAGA conspiracy stuff about the deep state! One guy even derided a bumper sticker in Jewel’s lawyer’s office that said “I fear the state more than terrorists”. He didn’t like that one little bit – being a good lefty. Made me want to have 2006 lefty come have a talk with 2019 lefty about how evil George Bush and the PATRIOT ACT are.
Anyway, the political police are still here – but at 83% they were less active than I expected. I’m sure the audience will have this thing over 90%, if the original trailer was anything to go on.
Looks really good and Sam Rockwell might be the most underappreciated actor of our time.
High school buddy of mine just lost his mother, aged 90.
She was a Welsh terror. We would run if she started cursing in Welsh because it usually meant she had the razor strop in hand.
But I didn’t know this about her (form the obit):
They had come to the US to flee socialized medicine. Her husband was my first urologist and he always had the best jokes.
That is awesome. Well, apart from the death part. It would’ve been cool to get her impressions about those notables.
America’s influence in the world is waning under Trump…

“Europe is on “the edge of a precipice,” Macron told The Economist magazine in a recent interview. “What we are currently experiencing is the brain death of NATO,” he said, a reference to the announced U.S. withdrawal from northern Syria.”
Because a civil war in Syria is what NATO exists for….
These people are morons.
The US pulls out just a little and Europe goes brain dead?
Okay Macron. Also, isn’t France not even in NATO?
Where do I go with this? So many catholic jokes I don’t even know where to start.
Under Sarkozy, France became closer to fully integrating into NATO. I believe they still have independent nuclear deterrence, though.

Macron? That’s rich!
This is why we need to live longer than we do. It takes about 40 or 50 years for stuff to come full circle a couple of times. Then you really notice it. Frickin’ France? Dude! How many times has your lame-ass country wimped out on us? And how many times have you guys lectured us about not being the world’s police?
Remember the 90’s? France and Germany in particular, but generally all of Europe kept lecturing us that we were not the world’s police and they’d handle the Yugoslavia situation by themselves, thank you!
Fast forward a couple of years and a couple of near genocide attempts…. suddenly France and Germany are hectoring us about shirking our responsibility and how we are the only super power and we have to step up and take the lead in Bosnia.
Yeah, Macron. I remember. You guys couldn’t even be bothered to allow overflights for a bombing strike in retaliation against Qaddafi. Screw you and the horse you rode in on. If you want troops in Syria, send them over there yourself…..
And the Germans. In early 60s my ROTC captain (recently returned from a posting in Germany) told the class that the German army then was second only to the U.S. in terms of quality and a German regiment could spank any two or three Warsaw Pact regiments if it had to. Now, I understand that any Polish division could probably take Berlin and advance as far as the Elbe before Merkel could answer the phone.
If the French want to war harder then they should put their big boy pants on and war harder. Good luck winning reelection on involving France in the Syrian quagmire, President Macron.
In the meantime, the US not acting as Europe’s mercenaries is a positive development
Maybe if he bombed the refugee boats…
Couldn’t agree more. Too bad any step in the direction appears to be baby steps at best.
But! But! Trump is just awful. Americans are supposed to go Die for no reason, because that is the noble thing. His requests for NATO allies to do their part they are committed to turns Americans in to simple mercenaries.
I wish the kids of every journalist bemoaning the loss of American “prestige” was automatically sent to go fight in Syria, you know to restore “prestige”. It could be dubbed “The Useless Brigade”. At least we’d all get some lolz
I wish the kids of every journalist bemoaning the loss of American “prestige” was automatically sent to go fight in Syria, you know to restore “prestige”.
That seems unnecessarily cruel. We should just send the journalists themselves.
The new French soldier preparing for battle
I caught a snippet of NPR driving the other day that seemed to be part of a greater Bad Orange Man panel discussion. I know I shouldn’t listen to state radio, but that was the day after the Niners announcer made that silly comment and had sports talk radio blabbering on incessantly about it. One of the ejits on there said that China has now taken the lead on climate change and renewable energy due to Trump’s policies. I hear a great deal of utterly ridiculous leftist shit due to my geographic location, but that really took the cake. It easily made the top five most idiotic statements of the year so far. I do realize there’s a few left in the year.
That is literally 24/7 on National Propaganda Radio.
I’ll say this for them…. they are more balanced than CNN, MSNBC and NBC News.
Not saying much, but I really don’t get how the Republicans never defunded their outfit.
They’re crazy for continuing to fund their own enemies.
“They’re crazy
for continuing to fund their own enemies.”FTFY
China has now taken the lead on climate change and renewable energy due to Trump’s policies.
Great!
That should slow them down.
Also idiotic because the US has never “taken the lead” on climate change and renewable energy…. not once, not even for one second.
Yeah… that’s crazy talk! Of course, China is the leading manufacturer of solar, and they are subsidizing the crap out of it – hoping to get all that sweet subsidized US and Europe business. But they are going to quadruple their CO2 output no matter what they do about solar. They have 300 million in the middle class now, for crying out loud.
And on the Niners announcer dude…. did you see Lamer Jackson trolling this? Dude wore white sleeves and white gloves during the game. Ha! That’s’ how you do it!
…and his rushing was only 40 yards that game. 😛
I predicted white QBs would start wearing black sleeves and gloves.
The article linked above actually does this:
“Meanwhile, China has gone from being a climate change curmudgeon to sometimes reaping praise as a global leader on the issue.”
News agendas are totally not coordinated.
America’s influence in the world is waning under Trump…
I want to pretend that means we are no longer imposing our laws on foreign citizens and sovereign governments (which would be a good thing), but I doubt that’s what they mean.
On the CFP…… Clemson hasn’t lost since winning the natty… and has won 2 of 3 and been in all these championship games…..
I think putting them at #3 while undefeated is a joke. You don’t do that in the world of sports. They might not win it all… but they haven’t lost in a season and a half and are the defending champs. Rules of sport says they are #1 until someone knocks them off.
well, Clemson did just murder UVA so maybe it’s punishment for committing homicide.
1. No ranked wins this season.
2. The game where they were a two point conversion from loosing.
That is why they got punished.
