It’s going to be a brief narrative, because I’m desperately attempting to catch up on everything that fell by the wayside for the last six months. I’m also now trying to get into the holiday spirit, or at least out of major depression, so I am actually going to put up some Christmas lights today. Not going to go as far as a tree, but I have my grandmother’s little ceramic tree, and that will go in my office. As soon as I find it in whatever box in which it resides, in whatever still-not-unpacked stack of boxes and bins, in whatever still-not-decorated room that box might be in. Or maybe it’s in the garage.
Anyway, you don’t care about the mundane details of my existence. You just come here for links you can ignore. So, here we go!
This is hilarious and a public art project all at the same time.
This should surprise exactly nobody.
This makes many good points. Also, has anyone else noticed that nearly every TV ad now sports a girl who looks earnestly like Greta? Or at least the ads we see during football, which is the only TV we ever see.
This is something that WebDom and I talk about ALL.THE.TIME. Always buy the domain name(s) before you do ANYTHING else with an idea or business.
This is something about which I don’t think he will have to worry.
This just pisses me off.
This was amusing, since I’m a former social media manager for a brand. (A week old thread, but too bad!)
This proves that the Trumps are antisemites!
Have a great rest of the day, kids! If you live in my neighborhood, you can come over and help me untangle the lights. There will be cocktails.
Hey – I read that article about the electrical engineer earlier today!
I come here for exclusives!
The Glib website tracker beacon on your computer is working flawlessly.
Fuck off, Tulpa.
Well on the other site where I read it is normally populated by – Top. Men. So some of the comments made me chuckle.
Although I was heartened to read that many folk were more concerned with is the end product safe as opposed to did a licensed person produce it.
Did drugs fall out of the article’s ass after you clicked on SP’s link?
yeah, this is a known thing(tm) that I was informed of in engineering school.
In order to use “engineering” or “engineers” in your company name, you MUST have a PE on staff. Regardless of the fact that in industry, only ArchEs, CivEs and a subset of mechE’s even need their PE stamp.
it’s dumb, but it’s not new.
A previous company even changed its name to drop “Engineering” from it even though we had several PE’s
I don’t support government licensing, but the issues and liabilities AND GAPS would come down the same way without them.
I don’t have a stamp, but I’m keenly aware that when employed my employer is liable for my mistakes. If I quit but then do some 1099 consulting for that same company in the same roles, the liability becomes mine. Without a stamp, I can’t get errors and omissions insurance, so I basically can’t practice except as an employee. None of that is new or news.
At a minimum, private seals of good housekeeping would evolve if state boards didn’t exist. Notice that this guy ran his product through UL: that was most of his cost. Doesn’t prove his product is safe, so it gives the client a false sense of security that forestalls further scrutiny. The bill was run up as if the state were licensing and ensuring good practice, but all we probably know is that his circuit is dust-tight or survived so many cycles of salt water.
So if you want to design a bridge that can carry 100 Pintos an hour across the Mississippi, you must have a stamp. But if you want to design gasoline tanks that blow up on that bridge at a rate of 100 per hour, no stamp or degree or training of any sort is required so long as you get a W2 from Ford to do so.
And so it has been for well over a century.
You know who else said they would only serve one term?
The
guyhero putting cowboy hats on birds.George Washington?
A variety of Illinois Governors?
They were all wrong, though.
I guess being arrested for corruption means you didn’t serve out your term.
But it starts a new term for you.
Budd Dwyer, in a way?
Hey man, nice shot.
We actually put up a Christmas tree this year for the first time since I think 2013. (Well, there was one year that we had the small ceramic tree out.)
Tell OMWC it’s a Hanukkah bush and he should put it up. 😉
Hanukkah bush sounds like something you’d find on Kosher Porn Hub
Only under the vintage tab, sadly…
By reputation, I suspect that OMWC does not care for bush.
Too old.
I don’t think that is true. Politics has always been built on hyperbole.
Or at least politics has always been polarizing. It was just that a lot of people who “Had power” were the establishment centrists who all agreed with each other but fought over power. Now it seems like both parties have had their power structures taken by “extreem” elements within it. Particularly the democratic party.
I don’t remember Pelosi ever talking like that. She certainly didn’t treat Bush that way.
I dunno. Hell, impeachment-Pelosi is completely different from the totally-wanted-to-avoid-impeachment-Pelosi of just a few weeks ago.
I still remember Pelosi during GWB’s social security reform push stating “plan, we don’t need a plan! We just need to stop this president!”
She has never been restrained or rational if she thought there was power to be gained.
Does it mean that there will be no Christmas tree in the White House if Bernie Sanders is elected President?
It’s why Trump just reissued the Nuremberg Codes.
Nope just a Maypole
What I learned today:
Do not crack a joke at work that goes “It’s pretty clear what happened here- the Russians got to the inspector general”, because white liberals don’t appreciate having their psychosis mocked.
You’re just now finding this out?
I made a mistake like that once, Now i work from home.
I think mine was, when all my coworkers were whining about Net-Neutrallity repeal, i said “I know now the internet will return to the terrible state it was in in 2015”
Oh yeah, when is all that bad stuff going to happen?
It killed all of us and this is just a computer simulation.
I prefer just to not talk to coworkers anymore. At a previous job a coworker eavesdropped on an innocent conversation I was having and construed it as I was making racist comments. She then got with her gossiping friends and the rumors spread like wild fire. She made my life a living hell. Being accused of being a racist is near impossible to shake off.
The solution to that is to hate everybody, then everyone will say you’re just an asshole rather than a racist.
I sang Happy Days are Here Again after Hillary lost. But the only lib in my office is also the drama queen no one likes so it earned me points.
It was clearly the Ukrainians.
Do not expect many people in 2019 to catch an allusion to a satirical play by Nikolai Gogol.
How did they know you were joking and not a true believer?
Ive had two or three coworkers work in ‘russian’ comments from totally innocuous subjects.
Shut that shit down before they could get on a roll and force me to unveil my shitlordly self in my full glory.
*fans self*
This was amusing, since I’m a former social media manager for a brand. (A week old thread, but too bad!)
“I love you”?
“Klymaxx”?
I do not miss the music from K-mart circa 1994
Both of those are from the 80s. (1981 and 1985 respectively.)
Yeah, and K-Mart in BFE Pennsyltucky played both of them on their fucking 45 minute rotation in 1994, along with Night Moves and fuck I can’t remember what else until I hear it and start having flashbacks.
Now I have to figure out what other songs will trigger Leap…. 😉
Before the Macy’s in downtown Minneapolis closed, I was walking through it and they were playing “Lowrider”. It’s a shame they closed.
She was a black haired beauty with big dark eyes

Actually, we do. I do. How are you holding up?

holy shit that’s hilarious.
Good. We’re fine.
How’s the selling of possessions and move coming along?
(If I got over here more I’d probably know the answers.)
We still haven’t formally filed. I’m trying to drag this out as long as possible to build up some cash.
Selling things is coming along apace, including Granny.
Sorting and sifting through what’s left of what I want to keep is taking a little while, though. I’m just kind of rummaging through stuff and contemplating whether it’s mentally healthy for me to keep.
Have you consulted an attorney? Because converting things to cash is probably NOT a good plan! Every State has lengthy lists of exempt property which cannot be taken from you in Bankruptcy and the amount of cash you can keep is very limited. Also any debts you pay prefiling can be (and likely will be) pulled back by the Court.
Yes. We have an attorney and we asked about selling our “assets.” She laughed. “You don’t have any. Knock yourself out.”
To be clear, I am selling things like a side table for $25 or a desk for $75. An old beater car, which our attorney said, “Yes, you can sell it, just get a bill of sale.”
We do not have “assets.” We have junk that’s worth a tiny bit of money.
I get that I was thinking strategically because (for example) Ohio (yes it is State specific even in Bankruptcy) has a $400 cap on the cash and cash equivalents you can keep in Chapter 7, but allows you to keep a whole list of items of personal property. This means if you sell those items before the case is discharged you can only keep $400 total in your bank accounts but if you sell them after discharge you can keep $400 in your accounts and then sell the items.
Link to MO exemptions
LOLOLOLOL
Don’t have to worry about it.
It’s not the value of the items it’s the amount of cash you can keep. In other words if you sell $100 worth of stuff pre BK you lose $100 because you can only keep a minimal amount of cash which includes all your bank accounts and even your paychecks, and cash on hand. I’m not saying don’t sell stuff I’m saying sell it after the discharge.
Hm. I’m not selling it because I want the cash. I’m selling it because I don’t want to move it.
I am not trying to be difficult or argue. I understand what you’re saying. We were told it wasn’t a problem.
Sorry I know I was being difficult here I just wanted to make sure the idea was conveyed because I’ve been through this and had to write a check to reduce my cash on hand to $400 because I had deposited a paycheck.
Estimated $64M loss as SF’s ‘poor street conditions,’ high costs drive out Oracle’s OpenWorld
Why does Oracle hate the homeless!?
I’m sure its about the potholes and narrow lanes. No-one is bothered by the used hypos and piles of human shit on the street.
If they raise the prices on the rooms the hotels will make back any lost money plus they’ll save money on room clean up, etc. Maybe the SF horsepower can issue chits to those homeless and they can occupy the rooms during the 3 lost days and the taxpayer can pick up the tab.
SF is super expensive, and not all that friendly to visitors. When we took a booth to a convention there, the unions tried to stick it to us every way from Sunday. The Teamsters tried to charge us $17,000 to move a rock climbing wall into the convention center.
They weren’t actually going to move the display, mind you. The vendor was going to do that. They don’t move stuff. But it had to go up the freight elevator. And the freight elevator was controlled by the teamsters. Now, that wasn’t their elevator. It actually belonged to the Hilton. But they had a union contract that said the Teamsters had exclusive rights to move freight into the convention center. So basically, a shakedown.
My answer was to spend 5 grand on a bunch of heavy hitters from a Gold’s gym in Oakland. The boss ended up negotiating with them and cutting a check for $3500, which was as much as the rock wall vendor was going to clear.
Yeah…. that left a bad taste. No love for the teamsters or the city.
That’s infuriating. I usually reserve my scorn for pubsec leeches but it’s useful to be reminded that private-sector unions are often scum too.
What level of hell does that client go to?
Tucson?
Isn’t an umbrella for keeping mist off of you?
You are assuming that the mist is aimed at the person holding the umbrella.
And that it will be a mist of water.
You are assuming that the mist is aimed at the person holding the umbrella
Oh so it’s one of those Russian Assassin Umbrellas
Well, I mean, well, yeah, I mean… I wasn’t thinking you could use with the pick up line “Excuse me miss, does this smell like chloroform to you” or anything like that.
In Arizona it’s for allowing one to play golf badly while staying shaded and cooled by a delicious mist, like produce in the store.
Perhaps a parasol would be more accurate?
Apparently umbrella is the umbrella term for umbrellas and parasols.
Not to mention bumpershoots!
🙂
It’s more logical in French: parapluie et parasol.
The category of food supports an endofunctor, T ∶ Füd ⟶ Füd, known as the tortilla endofunctor. Objects in the image of this functor are precisely those that are wrapped in a tortilla. The action of the functor T on morphisms is to take a recipe and yield a recipe from tortilla-wrapped ingredients to tortillawrapped results.Note that the tortilla endofunctor is, in general, not monoidal. Given tortillawrapped rice and beans, it is usually not possible to recover tortilla-wrapped rice and tortilla-wrapped beans. Nor is it always possible to produce a tortillawrapped nothing out of nothing.
Heh the overused burrito metaphor taken to the max.
Oddly enough, I find salads wrapped in tortillas much more satisfying that eating them off a plate.
Category theory is the most useless crap ever invented. It’s like the postmodernist lit-crit of mathematics.
you no hear of swamp cooling?
Oddly, Swamp coolers are not very effective in the swamp.
They work like a motherfucker in the desert, though.
Never even heard the word “swamp cooler” until I moved to Utah and then I was all, “You put water INTO the air? How does that HELP? What about that says ‘cool’?”
I’ve had clients that obnoxious.
The un-paid-for change order red fuming nitric acid steam bath?
I really needed parts of that article translated to Old Person.
just keep it pushin, Rhywun.
Really? You’re much younger than I.
(Also, friends don’t let friends use GoDaddy.)
^^^^THIS
Can friends get the domain back from GoDaddy?
HAHAHAHAHAHA you’re killing me.
I have had the unfortunate experience of trying to transfer registrations away from GoDaddy. Good luck with that project. Very difficult and time-consuming, and sometimes, ultimately unsuccessful. It’s even worse when the domain was originally purchased through a GoDaddy reseller, something that most of the resellers don’t apprise one of when purchasing the domain. So then one has two-three layers of BS to work through. And if the purchaser no longer has access to the email address they were using at the time? HAHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah, that sounds exactly like our experience.
I wish that clients would ask who to use BEFORE they register a domain.
I use GoDaddy and have never had a problem.
I did have a problem getting everything transferred TO GoDaddy with Domains by Proxy because I couldn’t remember some passwords.
However, the bullshit I went through to try to (ultimately unsuccessfully) get an account with Mt. Gox will forever trump anything GoDaddy could put me through.
Failing to get an account with Mt Gox was God looking out for you. They ended up stealing all the accounts they held.
In the meantime, Bitcoin went from $18 (when I could afford it) to $120 (when I couldn’t).
Which would not have benefited you because they stole all the accounts. Don’t borrow trouble. 🙂
I will admit that does make me feel better about my missed opportunity.
/still bitter
Mt. Gox
I’d say that worked out pretty well then.
Can’t lose crypto in the largest crypto heist this century if you didn’t store your crypto at Mt. Gox *taps temple twice*
What was the biggest crypto heist in the 17th?
The Illuminati heist of El Dorado using the Greys as getaway drivers.
Plot bunny.
FWIW, I have zero interaction with anyone younger than me – or any media aimed at anyone younger than me – except in a professional context.
Look at Methuselah over here.
It would have been a lot more scrutable if they had put the bit about Iowa State at the top part of the article.
Damn son. 95G?
not just an even $100k? jeez.
I don’t get out of bed for less than 120k. Lying aint easy.
I’d do it for as little as $110k, but I’m just generous like that, y’know?
Time made Greta person of the year.
I’m sure this will age well like the time they made that guy in Germany with the moustache who hated Jews and invaded countries person of the year.
Idiots.
So if the Riksdag suddenly burns down and Greta assumes emergency power, should we be worried?
Depends on the range of an electric powered tank.
How long is the extension cord?
They love them a childrens’ crusade they does.
They usually give the excuse that it’s the “most newsworthy” person, not “most admired”.
Yeah, one speech and a short career making the circuit of climate activist events does not a “most newsworthy” make.
Definitely Trump, Schiff, Hong Kong protesters, Elon Musk, Bezos, Giuliani, WistleBlower, Nick Sandman, AOC…. there’s probably a few dozen that are definitely ahead of her on the list, even if you really wanted to make that statement about global warming.
Why are you shocked that Marxists would be fan bois for watermelons and their cause?
Top comment from the engineer article:
First Comment, not Top comment
They must sleep well at night knowing that regulations protect them from being harmed by “licensed professionals”.
Shorter version: “I have no idea what IJ actually does, but my brother’s girlfriend’s Latinx Studies professor said it belongs to the Koch brothers, so it must be bad.”
This just pisses me off.
Engineering licensing is one of the oldest forms of professional certification, older even than licensing for medical doctors, so I think this ship has sailed. But a lot of the people in that story acted like dicks (client, board members), so I do feel sorry for that guy.
For Civil Engineers, perhaps, but no one thinks an electrical engineer and civil engineer are the same.
That’s our word, you can’t use it!
Train drivers say “hi!”
Yeah, my kid decided driving trains wasn’t up her alley. Mr Mojeaux thinks I was pushing her to it because I regret not going that professional route.
Maybe so.
Nothing wrong with that. Even for someone that likes choo choos, it’s a hard road with a lot of downsides to the upsides. I don’t regret not doing it either.
No, I DO regret not having done it when I was told about it.
One of the community colleges in the metro is teamed up with BNSF and they actually have a program. It would have been so easy if I’d had half an ounce of courage.
Heh. I know a woman that’s an engineer for Union Pacific. Before that, she was a stripper.
Relevant
If I had a SFW pic of her, Id post it.
Not all of them look like Ivor the Engine Driver.
Civil engineers
Engineer?
SP and I are friends with some of the top electrical engineers in the world, including the designer of the most successful opamps in high performance applications. That guy did the circuit design for LIGO. Masters in EE from MIT.
In Arizona, he could not legally refer to himself as an engineer.
Ditto Warty, who merely has an engineering PhD.
Politicians and bureaucrats judging the qualification of people to apply physics makes so much sense.
OT – did you get a new van? Or did I just miss the switch?
Old one getting too much recognition?
It was a lease.
Yeah, but the engineering boards are like the borg – they may have been started for civil engineering, but they took the word “engineer” right out the gate and so were able to assimilate all other engineering disciplines into their domain. I think in most states it is illegal to refer to yourself as an engineer, regardless of degree or practice, unless you have a license from the board. As most people’s experience indicates, however, this is not at all uniformly or vigorously enforced. Which sets up situations like in the article, where a dick who knows the rules can screw over a guy who doesn’t.
There is nothing special about civil engineers although CA appears to think so.
Why is it necessarily different?
It varies by state. I’ve done things on one state that would make me a felon in others.
Speech, by the way. That thing I did that would make me a felon was speech.
Get in the van and I will give you candy?
Crossing the state line was a felony.
Probably in both states.
This makes many good points.
Excellent.
Agreed. But as to why the progressives’ tactics gain traction with some, even during times of plenty, I’m reminded of this Matrix quote,
“Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization.” – Agent Smith
Humor, and why it is such an important weapon.
The US Public Health Service is one of the uniformed services of the US fedgov. Something about their origins tending to merchant seamen dockside, but continued today only because of bureaucratic inertia, and FYTW.
Well, they can be mobilized into service in times of war, as well.
I called USAA today, they insist on using my military rank, though I’ve been retired 43 years. Later I called the local eye clinic and immediately we were on a first name basis. I sort of doubt if I’ll be mobilized, I’m more concerned with being mobile.
I don’t care to be called Mister, I like even little kids calling me by my first name.
“You don’t have to call me mister, mister. The the whole world calls me Hank.”
I see nothing wrong with a person who retired or was honorably discharged using their rank. I know people here get all egalitarian and populist about this but if you earned it you earned it.
I am assuming you earned a rank and they weren’t calling you Private Fourscore
I’ve been called worse, mostly at home though
I’m sure this will age well like the time they made that guy in Germany with the moustache who hated Jews and invaded countries person of the year.
It’s not “good guy” of the year.
Thing is she’s not even influential. Name one policy change she influenced.
She cost us two popular and respected members
Really?
Yep. LH and Elspeth Flashman
I miss them terribly. Great people IRL as well.
Never met them IRL, but I miss them too.
Ditto. *sigh*
Maybe if we built them a clock …
/nosarc
I didn’t get a chance to meet them as ‘the episode’ happened not too long after I started engaging here. Pity, too, as I believe they’re within 75 minutes of me.
I wish it could be fixed.
I really wish it could be fixed also. I liked them very much.
Is there a Cliffs notes version of how that happened?
There were some comments about Greta after her UN speech. She’s autistic and they have a child who’s autistic. Humor was lost and they bailed.
She’s got your children ditching school and stamping their feet about a hoax. That’s terrifying.
Not mine.
That was the royal you, or something.
i think a few kids were influenced to care. not many.
all in all, i’d rate Greta’s influence and importance at about 1/1000th of a Taylor Swift.
Great links there SP. Really the best, classy links. Loved the cowboy hats on pigeons article, some hilarious lines in that. The domain name fight article was really good as well.
Sucking up is very unbecoming, Tulpa.
Heh, I liked the one on St Greta of Thunberg as well. I’ve been in an ongoing 10 year debate with a lefty buddy that started with me saying some similar things as the writer of that one.
How about late sucking-up?
The pigeon cowboy hats article had me in stitches. That is some funny shit. Bless whoever did that.
I’d say a pretty divergent and interesting set of links.
Did you bring her an apple too?
Or, put another way, they seem to believe that their libertarian ideals trump the rules and laws that elected representatives put in place.
He makes it sound like that’s a bad thing.
Why do you oppose rules and laws? Rules and laws keep blacks in the cotton fields! Rules and laws let us jail or castrate those damn homos! Rules and laws let us set prices for consumer goods and mandate purchases of insurance that costs as much as a house!
No, no we must take him at his word. By that train of thought abolishionists were monsters defying the holy word of our elected representatives.
That’s a good and consistent look on him or at least the Top Man crowd.
These kinds of things are my favorite

Your prostate-specific antigen was approved? Congratulations!
Awesome! Congratulations!
(Hi, to Wendy!)
And she says hello to you!
The owner digs me, it’s cheap, and no lawn to tell people to get off!
I’m missing that perk of home ownership.
Huzzah! Kick ass, Yusef!
Nice!
Excellent!
Party on!
Congratulations! That’s great news.
When’s the house warming? Party at Yusef’s!
Good to get some good news, Pardner
Congrats, Yusef!
Really happy for the three of you!
Congrats. Glad you got a spot. Live/work space?
Woo hoo – glad to hear! Hope to hear more details soon.
It’s an old single wide, on a big ass lot, some concrete pads, fenced, storage shed. All appliances, oversized AC system. In conversation I mentioned being Bob the Builder and ears perked up, so much so I’m doing the carpets and window tint for rent credit, and they have lots of properties with no good local maintenance guy, they do now…
Wow – Nice Bonus!
Even the heaviest rain stops one day and the sun shines again. I’d tell you to “Go fly a kite” but you’re gonna be too busy for awhile. Get all those ACs tuned up before summer hits Bullhead.
Very nice! Congratulations.
Go you!
Congrats Yusef, glad things are starting to work out!
That’s a snowstorm
I like how dude is already wearing a hat & coat INSIDE the crib.
Yusef is no longer homeless!
Woohoo!

Couldn’t agree more with that Ricochet article. I arrived at the conclusion a long time ago.
It’s not funny anymore.
I found a radio station in this wasteland, and guess what?
The 90s want there station back, it got lost in the desert,
Kid Rock? Cowboy Bay bay
I’d think you could at least find some Scorpions.
Took me a second …
Larf
That is the new Classic Rock.
You’ll get a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Sound Garden, etc.
Are those available on cassette yet? I’m trying to keep up.
Now you’ve lit the UCS signal.
*UCS looks for cassette gloves*
When I lived in PX, they played Pink Floyd every third song. I’m still pretty sick of them from that one year. Grat’s on the compound, BTW.
I’ve been spending parts of the day reading parts of the IG Report. Its infuriating that the FBI can just get away with flat out lying. For example:
They then represented to the court that Steels past reporting had been used in criminal proceedings as supporting evidence of the credibility of Steele.
I’m not talking about the political nature of the investigation. I’m just talking about the flat out Lies that the FBI told to get “the guy” they thought was a criminal. And the only reason there is an IG report on it was because the guy they were investigating was sensitive (i.e he was part of a major party’s political campaign, and that party won). Think how much this is happening to Random Joe Schmo. But this is just “Gross negligence”. Of course no prosecutor would bring charge against our fabulous federal blue line. Why that might hurt national security.
The thing I find most infuriating about all of this is the complete lack of calls to disband the FBI and the rest of the Securitate. These scum lied and forged exhibits to get a secret court to rubber stamp a warrant to spy on the presidential nominee of a major party. What the ever loving fuck do people think they do to normal folks? They are the goddamn KGB. Team Blue is denying there is anything wrong and Team Red is acting like the whole thing is a one off unprecedented and inconceivable lapse on the part of a handful of bad actors who tarnished a beautiful agency. No you assholes, this is what the Patriot Act does!
complete lack of calls to disband the FBI
Exactly!
Yep
The Overton Window has shifted way, way, way too far.
Accusing political opponents of being spies for foreign powers is exactly what was done in Stalin’s Soviet Union. All the former leaders who fell out of favor were accused of colluding with Germany, England, Poland, etc. (The practice was so popular that even after Stalin’s death Lavrentiy Beria was found guilty of treason wrt Germany and other countries.) And now in America the secret police, the media and most of the ruling class fabricated the Russia collusion hoax and accused the political opponent they hate of colluding with a foreign power. This is Stalin’s territory. That’s what I find the most infuriating.
Bad things are coming.
That’s just window dressing after it was decided that people who politically disagree are mentally ill.
It is interesting to see the FBI getting away with stuff that would have any of us put under the jail. Knowingly misrepresenting information to a judge under oath in order to facilitate a positive response, in this case the go ahead to start an investigation? Forget about it, we’d be toast. It’s like we have an unevenly applied justice system in this country or something.
Handwritten notes documenting conversations with Handling Agent 1 indicate that the Crossfire Hurricane team was left with the understanding that Steele was the original source for the FIFA investigation
This is where they get the idea that his testimony was used in a criminal investigation.
Handling Agent 1 told us that he never told the Crossfire Hurricane team that Steele’s past reporting was “used in criminal proceedings,” and he was bothered that the team used that phrase.
“bothered”
How do you phrase objection to your boss’s boss deliberately lying about what you say if you want to keep your job?
That is not meant as exoneration just people keep their head down when bad decisions are being made. Either faith in a system to correct or looking to their life and saying “not worth being fired and unemployable over” or both.
The worst on that front was a tiny tidbit.
They went to one of Steele’s sources to see if they could corroborate his work. The source cooperated with them and gave them a detailed account. It did not match the version that Steele wrote down in the dossier.
The FBI then proceeded to put “We have contacted the source for verification and found the source to be credible” in the FISA application. Now, this was true…. they did find the source to be credible. However, the source contradicted Steele, undermining his credibility.
So by stating that they found the source credible, they were flat out lying. It was a straight up Clinton move, using the semantics of what they did and did not say to claim that it was the truth. The witness was credible, the story in the Dossier was not. But we’ll leave that distinction out.
How many of these guys were prosecuted for telling “lies” that were much less lies than this?
LOL
I can always tell when BYU or any other church university is teaching a class on Mormon literature because sales of my non-Moriah Jovan books go up.
Have you gotten them translated into Portuguese?
No, although… I believe one of our (my publishing partner’s and my) books has a poem in Portuguese and one story in Monsters & Mormons happens in the Amazon after our narrator has returned from his mission from Brazil and takes his brand-new bride back for a wedding trip.
If I wanted to give someone a Moriah Jovan novel for xmas, what would be your first recommendation?
Do they like contemporary romance or historical romance? Do they mind specific religion and politics in their romance? How hot do they like/don’t like sex scenes?
There’s actually two people I was thinking of gifting here – my gf and one of my long time friends (female). I don’t know the answers to your questions. #fail.
Both have eclectic reading tastes with a strong crime drama bend.
Hmm. Strong crime drama bend… Like, Patricia Cornwell and J.D. Robb? That’s not me.
The mob book might be okay: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SJ8RZMJ
There’s the pirate book. https://www.amazon.com/Dunham-Tales-of-ebook/dp/B00DQZR2D4
I don’t do mysteries. I suck at them, so my villains are always known up front. And the romance always takes center stage in anything I do anyway.
There’s always the old “Hey, honey, you like romance novels?” bit. “Yeah? What kind?” That’s not obvious. At all.

Does that help?
She is probably not going to like anything I write. I can’t say for sure because I’ve got some surprising fans (men, mostly), but I’m not sure about going from Patterson to me.
Also, Christopher Moore is awesome.
Hrm. I’ll look at the mob and the pirate books. ?
I enjoy your writing and it’s pretty far from my normal fare. ?
And UCS, if you’re around, you’re getting gifted too…but I don t have to ask about that.
Support your local Glibs.
Oh, thank you!
The mob book has very tame and sparse sex scenes.
The pirate book has some freaky stuff, and much more frequent.
Mob book to friend.
Pirate book to gf.
Got it. If the pirate book gets me extra action, you might get a muffin basket.
You might not live through the erotic asphyxiation, but hey, whatever works.
It must have slipped my mind. Anyway it wasn’t important to what we wanted too. For as much that slips their mind, its amazing that the FBI gets away with not recording their interviews.
Those interview sheets should have all the weight of uncorroborated scribblings, that is none.
They’re all gonna have to wear cameras (of different colors) so we can tell them apart. I know, I know, they’ll be contracted to the lowest bidder and won’t work.
Scooter Libby went to jail for much less than this. They found a note in the margin that contradicted his version of a long ago phone call…. maybe. That counted as lying to investigators. This is a fully documented meeting… and it counts as “oops… slipped my mind”.
Somehow I don’t thing Page, Papadopoulos or any of the rest of them would have gotten the same benefit of the doubt that these FBI guys got over “slipping their mind”.
Didn’t Flynn get prosecuted for failing to mention a passing conversation with a Russian… one that they already knew about, yet it somehow counted as obstructing justice to fail to mention it.
Didn’t the exact minutes of his morning run count as lying, because everybody says a 53 minute run instead of an hour run.l in an informal discussion…
Wow. Only 6%.
Nearly half say they would “seriously consider” emigrating if Corbyn — a man 87% of those polled believe is an anti-Semite — gets to Downing Street.
Somehow I don’t think the anti-Semites would view this an an unfavorable outcome.
Leftist antisemites aren’t content throwing Jews from their countries. Theirs is internationalist antisemitism. They want the Jews destroyed.
Europe is just not a good place for Jews.
(((Hypothetical me))) would consider leaving Brooklyn, too.
The claim that white nationalists were taking over New York was always stupid and designed for they perpetually and willfully ignorant.

NY cheddar > VT cheddar.
Dude. Don’t even. Plenty of great NY cheese.
Cabot is my current favorite. If only because they distribute to NYC.
Weirdly, their website plugs VT but their packaging plugs NY.
Pretty sneaky, sis.
I think they’re some sort of co-op, so they can probably get away with saying they have producers in both states.
Yep.
This person goes to some NYC market. They make a goat’s milk cream cheese which is just wonderful. I was significantly less impressed with their tomme, and their feta was just above average.
The Cabot extra-sharp vintage choice is awesome.
I’ve bought 4 of those since I found it in the specialty cheese case a month or so ago. It is so good.
Have you tried the Cabot cloth bound?
So good.

Nope. Sounds interesting, if probably not an every-day cheese for me.
If you come across a cheese monger selling Neil’s Farmhouse Cheddar, you owe it to yourself to pick up a small wedge.
Costco carries several styles of Cabot. Yeah, their sharp Cheddar is da bomb.

We picked up a guy that fractured his penis. He had hooked up with a chick he met at the hospital, while they were both visiting their fathers in ICU. He was handcuffed to a chair in the kitchen and she was going all cowboy on him when the accident happened. We found him whimpering in the bathtub with a bag of ice. The family room walls looked like Helter Skelter. I felt bad for the poor guy. Her: “can you give me a ride back to the hospital?”.

Kevin Bacon on Not Acting ‘Likable,’ Whether ‘Tremors’ Could Ever Come Back
Of all the trash on the tvs…
Leave Tremors alone Kevin, it was perfect as it was. If you want to screw with your old movies save it for one of the crappy ones like Footloose.
People should not be screwing around with cult classics. LEAVE GHOSTBUSTERS ALONE!!!!
Sometimes I think remakes are important. Too many really good movies are lost to history. But they should wait a lot longer before remaking stuff.
A. Ghostbusters is not a cult classic.
B. Meh. remakes get a bad rap, if it’s a good story why not have at it a few time with different casts/directors/cinematographers/grips etc? I really like the early rock era when everyone was covering everyone made for some interesting juxtapositions (Wilson Picket covering the Archies para ejemplo) don’t know why that shouldn’t be true for films.
” remakes get a bad rap”
Name some good ones without naming John Carpenter’s “The Thing.”
I appreciated Born Yesterday, although the remake was nowhere near as good as the original. I didn’t know it was a remake when I saw it, which is why I’m torn on the subject of remakes.
No, the Melanie Griffith one wasn’t that great, but there was a scene in it that hit me just right, so I like it.
Hitchcock’s 1956 remake of Hitchcock’s 1934 movie The Man Who Knew Too Much

Good one.

Ah shit just realized my mistake “Fistful of Dollars” not “For a few dollars more”, damn Strohs keep jumping out of the fridge and force me to drink them before they get warm.
Ahhh Ok Much more in the line of “Magnificent 7” being a remake of 7 Samurai.
3:10 to Yuma
Great movie
The original was. Remake not so much.
Wages of Fear got made into Sorceror. Both were great, but only the remake had Roy Scheider.
OFFS.
Do better. ????
Ghostbusters was an extremely successful movie enjoyed by millions and millions of people, spawned sequels and a fucking cartoon or two, Perhaps I don’t know the dictionary definition of ‘cult classic’ but I’m fairly certain that aint it.
Repo Man.
More like occult classic, amiright
I didn’t see it until the aughts. My perspective might be different.
The early movie industry was somewhat like you describe the early rock era. So many early films are remakes, or even remakes of remakes – The Maltese Falcon, The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, even The Wizard of Oz.
There were also WAY more movies coming out. You had the smaller studios, and the “B” units of the big studios. It was a much different time.
far more
way more
Speaking of Waymore…
Speaking of remakes of remakes
Red Dawn. Point Break. Ghostbusters. Bad News Bears. Dirty Dancing. Footloose.
In fairness….
Red Dawn and Point Break are guilty pleasures… not good movies. They are fun for what they are.
Bad News Bears is a classic and should not be touched.
Ghostbusters is a classic and a prime example of fine film making. A remake was insulting.
Dirty Dancing and particularly Footloose are shite. sorry girls. And you don’t need to remake shite.
So… final verdict…
Either it sucks and we don’t need another one, or it was great and we don’t need another one.
Red Dawn is anti-gun registration, written by the guy who inspired Walter in The Big Labowski, that’s classic.
I stopped to think about that for a while.
I will rephrase.
I don’t want MY beloved movies remade until I’m dead.
Someone floated the idea of remaking Big Trouble in Little China. Now, that was a popular movie, as was Real Genius, but they both feel like cult classics to me. I do not know why.
More generally, I’d rather not a new Batman (or whatever) movie come out every 2 years.
There’s a Ghostbusters 4 coming out, in addition to the SJW remake version.
If it’s a new story line that picks up in current day, I got no problem. A straight-up remake? Stop that shit already.
Ron Underwood is persona non grata after Pluto Nash.
Uh, there were several tremors movies. They never went away.

I’m beginning to think teaching attracts some real dumb women.
I believe it was Thomas Sowell who said that schools of education is the bottom of the educational/intellectual barrel. I don’t know, as I didn’t get my teaching certificate, but based on a few of the women I knew who were headed that direction, I can’t say he’s wrong.
That said, I don’t really understand what’s attractive about a teenage boy.

Sweetness. Earnestness. Being able to control them. The enjoyment of seeing and feel them enjoy every moment of being with you. Receiving a lot of attention.

None of that (save the rock hard dong) is to my taste.
Sorry for trying to come up with some reasons. GOSH!
Your earnest response was noted and appreciated. AND! You sounded familiar with the situation and thus, authoritative on the subject.
Someone’s never been a teenage boy SMDH ?
No, but I have been an adult woman wondering what’s attractive about teenage boys. LOL
Teenage girls, otoh…
Teenage me would’ve gotten into that car at the bus stop where it was raining, oh yes she would.
Smoking in a music video… I’ve never been a smoker, but I miss hanging out with smokers. Stupid neopuritanism.
Weird thing about smoking.
After XX was born, my sense of smell and taste was jacked like crazy. It took about 5 years to get back to normal, and never really did.
Then I got “phantom smells.” I could smell cigarette smoke everywhere (and we don’t smoke). It was driving me crazy, but I knew it was just me.
Then my bestie (who smokes) came to live with us for a while. She would go outside to smoke, but when I smelled it, I knew it was real and it was like some weird comfort for me.
Anyway, my phantom smell is gone. Every time I smell cigarette smoke now (rarely), it’s a relief to know that it is real and I’m not going to have it in my head.
Last night I was looking over the knickknacks in one of my bookcases and there was a full, unopened pack of Marlboro Reds I forgot about. I think I got the wrong variety by accident and left it there who knows how many years ago. I’m really tempted to open it up and smoke one.
Oh totally. I’m just riffing on myself and all the teenage boys I was attracted to when I was a teenage boy.
To be fair, Sowell is also an autism truther who denies the condition exists.
The econ grad student offices were near the education school offices. The ed school put up notices in the hall. The Chinese econ grad students made a game of finding (and correcting) the spelling and grammar errors.
The condition itself or the spectrum? There is a one-size fits all for the proposed solutions so I see rejection when you lump in learn hard things to understand with incapable of comprehending. He has always been blunt about making it yourself despite the obstacles and definitions designed to encompass everything make that nonsence by design.

So, in all this Ukraine talk, and talk of interfering in foreign elections, I’ve not yet heard mention of the US supported what was probably an unconstitutional coup in the Ukraine before Russia had invaded Crimea. I guess things just disappear from reality if they aren’t mentioned in the news. Kind of like how Obama’s ‘Hot Mic’ talk to Russia about being more flexible after the election happened After Russia invaded Georgia. I guess Hillary’s reset button DID work.
Yeah, from what I understand the US totally started shit there. We’ve been poking the Russia hornet’s nest for years.

“Barrels of raw pork shoulder were riding fat in a tractor trailer pulled over by North Carolina deputies.
Approximately $3 million in cash was recovered from the barrels Saturday, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post Tuesday. The driver of the tractor trailer was accused of failing to maintain his lane and impeding the flow of traffic on Interstate 85.
Deputies became suspicious of the truck when a K-9 alerted to the trailer, the post says. Deputies searched the tractor trailer and discovered the cash wrapped in plastic in the barrels.”
Why was there a K9 on a normal traffic stop?
Maybe that’s Cleveland County’s “normal.” ‘Round here, when Mr. GT & I head west on I-70 we have to be on the lookout for the “Preble County DEA” – troopers rather than county mounties, I believe, but notorious for pulling over out-of-state plates on any pretense and making big drug busts.
Didn’t know dogs can smell cash. Oh wait, there either lying or the dog alerted due to the smell of food. .
https://www.nextgov.com/cybersecurity/2018/06/these-police-dogs-sniff-out-electronic-devices/149045/
Even harder for me to believe…
Full Disclosure – I’m pretty sure desire to please the nice human who gives treats is overriding any specific substance smell training the dog may have undergone.
That said, was the dog trained to sniff out Federal Reserve Notes? Was the dog just excited to be around a large amount of delicious fragrant meat? Yeah, and why was the dog even there? Also, is it a crime to transport money now?
Even if the driver committed no crimes the cash will be found guilty.
I’d guess it wasn’t a normal stop. I know they claim that they can ‘train dogs to smell money’ (they are training dogs to respond to their handlers), but wrapped in plastic packed in pork and inside a semi trailer? They had reasons to suspect this guy and used the dog as an excuse.
Parallel construction is my guess.
I believe that friend Lachowsky has uploaded a video to this site detailing just such a stop and sniff. Fucking assholes.
Riding fat?
Tonight’s train rant. Listen, I get that some people are overweight. We all got our problems. But, if you’re going to try to squeeze into that open seat between two people, it doesn’t matter how slowly you ease down into it. That only adds an element of sexuality that doesn’t belong. Just plop your fat ass down and squish us.
Look, it’s not about you, it’s about making sure the clothing and fat folds end up where they’re supposed to. If you just plop down into a narrow space, it gets shoved to uncomfortable spots. Trust me, the fatty isn’t even thinking about you beyond annoyance that there wasn’t a better spot.
Trust me. They are worried about that here. It’s a side effect of living on a crowded island.
And why should it bee okay to put your thighs and arms acrobat someone else just because you’re fat? It’s disgusting.

Work is kicking my ass and chewing all the bubblegum. I don’t remember it being this exhausting before and I’ve done this job for seven years. I have to start early to leave late. By the time I’ve got my Glibs in after work all I want to do is sleep until mid-afternoon. I’ve cut back big time on the beerage but maybe getting sick was a “crossing the Rubicon” moment. I just don’t feel right and there is still that pesky hernia surgery to deal with some time in the next 5 to 11 weeks. Doggy will enjoy the recovery – “Do nothing for a week and then WALK”.
Mornin’, Glibbies!
Festus! In case you happen to see this (not likely), glad you are on the mend.
@sean last night dropped a link about pork barrels full of cash in a semi that was stopped for “suspicious” reasons. @GT said …
There is/was a section of I-29 between
Chouteau CityPlatte City, Missouri and St Joseph where the truckers (regular routes) were notorious for playing dangerous pranks on car drivers and motorcycles. This actually happened to me (in my little CRX). I drove that route daily to go to school, so I was also known.Three semis penned me in and kept getting closer, squeezing me in like those moving walls you see on movies. Well, having a V6, a tiny car, and a manual transmission, I was able to dart around the lead truck on the shoulder and I ran like hell.
A couple of them did, in fact, kill someone for shits and giggles. There was a very good reason for the troopers to harass them, but they did not. They let the truckers have their jollies scaring people.
So truckers are not my favorite people in the world as they scare me, and driving beside semis on a motorcycle terrifies me. I’m glad that dude was stopped because he probably WAS driving suspiciously, but yeah, I am suspicious of cops’ motives until they nab someone *I* don’t like, but that’s how humans roll, amirite?
