Well, it’s that time of year again. My wife took my daughter to sojourn in Dallas with her family, so that’s when I usually do a bunch of updates to Monocle!
However there are some things that you should know about Monocle to make your experience suck less. First, there are two variants of Monocle. Monocle Classic still exists, but I haven’t touched it in a year. If you like your Monocle, you can keep your Monocle, but you’re gonna be left in the dust as new features come along.
All of the cool updates are happening in Monocle Eyepiece, which is computer AND mobile friendly! Eyepiece is what I use every day when I visit Glibs, and it has recently become even better.
Like always, both Monocle Classic and Monocle Eyepiece are available with install instructions here.
Here are some of the features available in Eyepiece:
- Dynamic comment loading – Every 45 seconds, Eyepiece checks whether there are any new comments and loads them into the page.
- Next Unread Comment – The number button tells you how many unread comments are on the page and lets you cycle through them with just a click.
- Mark Comments Read – Clear the unread comments to get ready to read the next batch of Glib insight.
- Hide/Show Old Comments – During one of the Glib pushes to 1000 comments, it can be annoying to have to scroll through reams of old threads. With one click, it all goes away! Hide Old Comments removes any threads that don’t have new comments in them, but preserves the context of the new conversations so that you can still tell what’s going on.
- Comment Formatting Buttons – Never SF a link again! Your tags will be closed and your links will be clickable when you use the comment formatting buttons.
- TopHat+ Comment Preview With Link Checking – It used to be that you had to guess whether your formatting of your comments was correct. Then lafe.long published TopHat, the comment previewer. Now, Eyepiece has gone even further with TopHat+ dynamic comment previewer. But wait, there’s more! Now Eyepiece will detect whether you’re posting a duplicate link to a thread and will notify you whenever you’re in danger of the ultimate Glib faux pas!
- FOS-inspired User Mute – Whether you’re sick of that asshole, or you just can’t today, one click hides all the comments from a certain user so that your blood pressure returns to normal.
As always, let me know if there are any bugs or feature requests.

This is a trifecta, heretofore unknown in these here parts. I’m a trend setter, so here goes.
There’s woke, and then there’s Canukistani Woke

Where’s the Tittays?

Sigh. This is just going to get uglier.

“Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court of British Columbia (B.C.) ruled that a 14-year-old girl may undergo transgender hormone “treatments” to support her transgender identity as a boy — without her father’s consent. The court went so far as to threaten to penalize the father’s speech. If he calls his daughter a girl, that would constitute “family violence,” which would be punishable by law.”

I think I’d end up doing life, and not for ‘family’ violence.
It’s outrageous.
Now you know why people were throwing shit at these tards back on this same day in 1770. Should have just dragged everyone of them … never mind.
I’d imagine there’s an abundance of wood chippers in that neck of the woods.

Thanks for the hard work, Trshmnstr! Can’t wait to update it on my desktop back home.

It was Monocle porn
Speaking of monocles, some of you people are trying to corner the monocle market by drastically cutting your prices and trying to drive out the competition. Hey, my orphans have to eat, too, and I can’t feed all of them if you cutthroats keep underpricing me. What’s worse, I’ve got a new shipment of orphans coming in from the I.C.E. holding cages later this week. So, I’ve been thinking about retooling the factory and diversifying into pince nez production. That market looks wide open, but, heck, I’m concerned that maybe pince nez is a proggy look (e.g. Teddy R.).
Would it be o.k. for a libertarian to sell pince nez?
It is only ok if you dump the toxic waste produced somewhere safe, like the nearest elementary school or playground. It also helps if you hot fit each pair to an orphan’s nose in order to ensure proper ergonomics.
“Comment Formatting Buttons – Never SF a link again!”
SugarFree will still manage.
Just downloaded to my mobile. Looks pretty cool. Thanks!
You are an amazing dude. Thank you.
Thanks, guy!
Now about the navigation sidebar… any way to disable that on mobile?
Not currently. The goal is to format the comments so that it’s unnecessary to hide the sidebar. However, that involves Javascript voodoo that I’m not very familiar with, so stay tuned.
John Roberts will disagree, I’m sure.
Also, I was using the new version on mobile today, and it kept jumping around anytime a new comment was posted. And you muted me. Great.
I turn that off. I messes with my flow.
And you muted me.
I did a double take when I read that because you were who I tested mute on when i was coding it up (nothing personal, you were active in the thread at the time)
The page shouldn’t be jumping around when new comments are added. There’s some weirdness if the comments are on the screen when they’re added, but otherwise it should be pretty stable.
If it’s a continuing issue, let me know the details and I’ll try to track it down.
I can confirm that Eyepiece is feature-complete for me – I don’t see any reason to stick with Monocle.
Thanks, Trash!
Penaltax will agree with whatever it takes to toe the proggie lion. That private island deal is still on!
Three beers in gearhead here. Do I
a/ stumble through an honest effort now with attendant drunkish questions or
b/ wait and try with unsuitably tardy but sober questions later ?
Drunk is the preferred format for glibs. It’s like MS word .DOC, but for internet crazies.
.docx for us modern day beer fans.
yeah, really the dumbest question of the year, but it’s barely March; laptop is working
I did get lost because I didn’t see the Eyepiece hyperlink and wasted a lot of time on the old lynx
Are you taking requests? ‘Cuz I’m curious why my engine was throwing a knock sensor warning for all of four days, then stopped and hasn’t thrown another since.
I request one of these. If we had social justice, everyone would have one, right?
Me want

Could be:
a/ situation resolved and the code got FIFOed out of memory
b/ bad gas / high altitude / high load situation went away
c/ wiring continuity resolves as temporary open circuit bumped back into contact (cousin to loose-connector syndrome)
I’m not a grown up mechanic, but the situations above really happen. I took five trips to

It could be the knock boss, changes in fuel octane, compression, timing, loose distributor, etc.

Wow, how did this comment end up here?
Did you reboot the carburetor?
The only way I know to use it is to add tamper monkey to mobile Firefox and install Eyepiece by clicking the link.
woah woah: tamper monkey for Firefox on mobile? I’m just getting pages of script popping up 🙁
fixed my mobile; I think the language for Eyepiece mobile should be updated to:
The only way I know to use it is to add

Tuesday tittays OR I have type?
TITTAYS
Dad has a fairly expensive property on the market. The latest couple to do a walkthrough with his realtor asked what his terms would be for doing a real estate contract. Wtf? We’re talking north of half a million.
Buyers propose; sellers mark it up. What does the price have to do with it?
But why not buy it on mortgage? Who’s putting down significant cash who can’t get a mortgage?
Investors who have hit the ceiling for number of loans. It is a thing, but they aren’t usually shopping in the high end retail world.
Maybe. It’s high ticket for the market but the market is pretty low-end. Buying the prettiest streer in Muleshoe.
Could also be a cash flush deadbeat. Lol, I have clients who make their living selling to people like that on Land Contract, I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who isn’t an experienced landlord, or who can’t afford the time/hassle to get the house back if they default.
I don’t think I’ve ever uttered the words ‘Dad’ and ‘half a million’ in any any sentences that were were even fairly close, rich boy.
It’s his nest egg. He built the place when he was doing really well, in 2007. He’s been trying to get rid of it for five years or so. His other big investment is social security, which he’s scrupulous about. He’s the definition of land rich, cash poor.
Oh, so he paid half a million, but it’s worth like $200,000 and he doesn’t get he’ll not recoup that?
Not underwater, no. He stands to make money on it, but only (“only”) a couple hundred grand. If it sells for what it’s up for, it’s still a significant markdown from what he thought it should be worth in 2007. But his situation wasn’t subject to the insane home pricing of that period, so he didn’t pay an insane amount for it. I still wish he’d sunk his savings into building townhouses.
I might just only be a cheap bastard who hasn’t ever had to buy a house, but if I’m going to spend over half a million for someplace to live, it better have a Batcave.
LOL, doing some ‘research’ for sound clips, Trump AGAIN served fast food. THE MONSTER!.
Cue Vox or one of the Gawkers with a list of black players who refused to attend in 3… 2… 1…
Like this MSNBC piece of ‘news’ from the first time?
Yes.
Thanks for these, Trshy.
Sitting at the old haunt for half-price beer Tuesday. My bartender crush is serving. “Really emptied out in here, but it’s early.” Dafuq? It’s eight! It’s late! I shouldn’t even be here!
She’s terrific. Has a wine stain birthmark down her face.
My programming cannot parse, please repeat command.
Lithe, Hispanic, curly auburn hair. Yoga instructor on the side.
Still too late to be out. I ordered another beer.
I still don’t get it. But call her ‘toots’ and grab her ass. It always works in the movies.
Think Mikhail Gorbachev. But sexier.
“Think Mikhail Gorbachev. But sexier”
That’s like saying “Think Antarctic, but even more tropical.”
I was using Monocle in Opera for several months. But about a month (or two?) ago tampermonkey extension got automatically disabled and I cannot install it again. I got the downloads from here (sub-thread 25).
oooohh…this Monocole thing is pretty cool! I’m not one to run some strange code on
myselfmy PC, but this helps as I can never remember stupid HTML and am terrified of someday getting the wrong edit fairy. Thanks Mr. Trshmnstr!
I had a big client presentation today (the project with the asshole men that are convinced I’m doing it wrong or not taking it seriously enough). It went great. As in, the client actually sent comments to my boss, copied to me, about how happy they were. I am drinking wine and doing no work this evening.
The things that I highlighted as really important, the client was surprised and took seriously. It was a good day, plus, I got some writing done and work on a third project. I earned this wine. I may be in late tomorrow.
Congrats, Tulip.
Those moments are so, so fucking good. I’m happy for you!
Bravo Zulu.
Relevant link: It was a good day
Go you!
It’s better because of the assholes that assume I don’t know what I’m doing. FFS one guy was explaining (to an economist) that , you know, some firms have different businesses models. No shit. Jerk. Or another one, that, you know, I need to provide all this detail. No. They need the big picture, the details can go in back up. Seriously, there was a reason I was asked to save this project. And, I did.
I finally met with my boss about next year’s goals and got the publication stuff removed. I still better get a big raise. We meet separately about goals and raises.
Damn Tulip, you’re hitting them out of the ballpark.
I hope this doesn’t come off as churlish, but I think the Glibs for reminding my how much more trying my job could be. I am fortunate not to deal with such nonsense.
Good job, Tulip – I’d want to strangle anyone who was so cluelessly condescending.
oy – “thank”, not “think”
I like to imagine stabbing them in the eye with my pen.
I find this an inspiring scene
And just because I’m still a little high from today and a little drunk. I just got an email from one of the you’re not taking this seriously enough and will fail guys, saying “what you should take away from today is that [client] who was voted one of the most influential people by blah blah blah, said that was great”
I better get a big raise. The economy is good and I’m getting lots of head hunters sending me emails through LinkedIn.
Lessons learned in my ‘career’, it doesn’t matter how good the ‘economy’ is if your sales people are shitty. The plague of my life. For want of a salesman…
I have options, and I can sell based on my record.
Is it Eyepiece that has stopped links from opening in a new tab by default, or just this post? (I know that’s a per-post option).
If so how do we turn that off?
” .@AOC passed gas and hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane were released into the air because she’s a socialist. Farting is for snowflakes.”

We should all make lifestyle changes because our green overlords demand it – they, on the other hand, should do what is most convenient because they’re doing Very Important Work.
I want to know what she is eating to be farting elemental hydrogen.
Fast-forward to AOC being plumbed up to produce pure hydrogen for carbon-free energy production.
I’m expecting HM to step in at this point with some sort of visual illustration of what that would involve.
In the words of Glenn Reynolds:
“I’ll believe it’s a crisis when the people who keep telling me it’s a crisis start acting like it’s a crisis”
It’s sad that Luke Perry is wormfood while someone like Milano still spews her diarrhea.
Ooof, that’s a depressing thought.
Jeez guys, it was supposed to be a joke (not secretly Alyssa Milano)
Sorry, I don’t speak Twitter.
We talk TV. You Talk TV?
Monocle always reminds me of the magazine with the same name by the pretentious asshat Tyler Brûlé. Sorry trishminister.
Hey Trash – a feature request:
Is it possible to add keyboard shortcuts to navigate? Something like ‘n’ for next unread comment, ‘p’ for previous, etc.?
Hey glibs. I have been absent a bunch over the past month. I miss y’all.
You got another kid now? Name xe Glib?
Her name is Ellis and she’s as cute as three buttons. She’s trying to push through teeth right now and that makes her life a bit more difficult than I or her mother would like.
I’m just saying, Sloopy named his kid Reason, probably not to late to change Ellis to Glib.
I’ve already called dibs on Glibert.
I’ve had dibs on Damion Lucifer Sun Child Doug for a long time, seems others have respected that.
I was getting worried about you and Doom.
I hope all is well.
I’m good tundra, just incredibly busy. Kid, wife, doing my best to figure out how to negotiate a new contract between my employer and the 400 not so agreeable dudes I represent.
Its eating up my time like crazy.
I hope doom is well.
The very first post I ever made on reason was a response to a doom question about his vehicle. I like that too skinny and tall guy.
You won’t believe me today but these are some of the the best times of your life. I suspect I speak for a lot of us old-timers when I say it’s fun as hell to watch you guys kill it. When I was in your shoes, I never understood how important and valuable the stresses were. The fact that you are already negotiating big deals is telling. The fact that you are so committed to being a real dad and husband is even better.
And yes, Doom is awesome as well. I hope to hear from him soon. Be good, kid!
I’m enjoying it tundra. I know that there are a lot worse things out there than a family that loves and relies on me. ?
FWIW, I’m always happy to see you posting – one of the great things I get out of the Glibs is interacting with people who have “real”[1] jobs; working at a steel mill is as about as real as it gets. Happy to have you around.
[1] all you other keyboard jockeys can relax – our jobs are also real jobs, but we’re not going to kill anyone if we screw up.
Speak for yourself.
Also, I have been spending the past week trying to keep a random drug testing policy out of the contract that my union works under. It’s been difficult.
Something I have learned from my very first experience of being a representative for a union negotiating a new contract with a company-
Doing business at the table is incredibly frustrating. It’s frustrating because the whole process is so structured that honest dialogue is impossible. I cant come out and say what I believe because that compromises my position. The company likewise cant come out and say what they believe for the same reason.
This shit is hard, because doing it effectively goes against how I do every other thing in life.
Also interesting, we are trying to figure out how to deal with medical marijuana. Arkansas state laws are strange. I as the union rep am asking that it he treated the same as any other prescription drug. The company wants to agree to this language, but cant find a way out for firing an employee that is high at work. I understand their position because there is no clear standard test for determining if a person is currently high or not.
It’s difficult.
Yeah. I’m not against unions in principle, just how they are currently treated under law, but given the current laws, I couldn’t work a union job, much less represent them,
So…
Internally I struggle with this.
I rationalize it to my self in this way- (I’m open to criticism)
I live in a country with a whole bunch of laws that I wish didnt exist. Some of those laws benefit business. Some benefit labor. I cant change those laws.
In my state, the laws generally favor business. (Right to work, at will employment, etc.) There are also laws that benefit labor, (unemployment insurance, workers comp, etc.)
That said, I dont like the system I work in, and if it were up to me I would negotiate the terms of my employment with my employer individually. I cant do that though.
Instead I joined the union that my company contracts with when I hired on there about 5 years ago. Since that date, I have earned an enormous amount of respect from the guys I work with. So much so that they decided to make me the guy who is in charge of negotiating their next contract.
Not something I asked for, but something I received none the less. I have taken the responsibility seriously and christ on a crutch finding the right thing to do with that responsibility is difficult.
I won’t pretend to know your strange laws. But is there one that actually stops you from negotiating for yourself? Or is this just an assumption?
Try and turn it towards a “for cause” policy. What people do on their own time is their business. If what they’re doing leads to signs of impairment on duty, then test them. But what you’re looking for has to be defined, documented and witnessed.
Also try and work in a “two strikes” clause so that an otherwise good employee can get a chance to turn it around before they’re fired. Toss in after treatment monitoring for a period of time to sweeten the pot.
I was able to turn a mandatory testing policy into what I described above. Both sides were very happy with it. I don’t care what you do on your own time but if you’re impaired at work, I don’t want you around.
Linking this back to the last time Lach posted about this, 20 years ago there was an on sight saliva test, equivalent to to a breathalyzer, to tell if someone was high at the moment. It’s out there, if that’s the hill you want to die on.
Can you give me a link. That would be beneficial
Gah, I wrote that almost 20 years ago, lets see what the old google machine pulls up now…This is as far as my free labor goes.
That test can’t imply impairment unless behavior matches the readings. Tolerances are different with weed. When I was negotiating the drug testing policy, I threw in a lot of stuff on blood levels, just to make it difficult. In the end, it was the admin that came back with a reasonable cause policy offer. The goal is to deal with impaired employees and protecting company liability, while protecting the privacy of the employee. A test result alone doesn’t achieve those goals.
That’s fair enough for that kind of job site.
BTW, there’s some bug with the next article button. I’ll fix it sometime this weekend. It doesn’t take away any existing functionality so I left it in.
“Not one to break the rules, I will say only two things about “Captain Marvel”: (1) I have not seen it, and (2) It is a towering artistic achievement. You may object to my reviewing a movie I haven’t seen, but why do I need to see it? I already know what opinion I must — literally must — have about it. And so I can report that “Captain Marvel” is the most remarkable film ever to grace the silver screen. Frankly, it makes “Citizen Kane” look ridiculous, by comparison. I feel the sudden urge to go to Orson Welles’ grave and yell at him for making a movie that is so much worse than “Captain Marvel.” I do not know why any filmmaker ever bothered to make movies that aren’t “Captain Marvel,” or why they will continue to make movies even though “Captain Marvel” has already been made.
“Captain Marvel” is, in a word, miraculous. Some white male critics have called the movie an “inspiration” and a “supernova.” I agree with their assessment even as I condemn them for taking jobs away from female movie reviewers.
“Captain Marvel” transcends film. It is not enough to call it the greatest film in history. Indeed, it is one of the greatest events in history. The invention of the printing press, the polio vaccine, the moon landing, Amy Schumer’s first standup special — these are civilizationally transformative events. “Captain Marvel” takes its place in that category.
If I were to offer one criticism of “Captain Marvel,” it is the runtime. It is just 128 minutes long. I wish that it lasted as long as my very life, so that I would never have to be without “Captain Marvel.” I wish that I could live every moment gazing upon it. The movie gives me life and purpose. I am not worthy to watch it. So I didn’t, and I won’t. I offer this only as tribute to an utterly sublime piece of art. And as proof that I am not sexist.”

Politics are ruining my one escape from politics. THANKS POLITICS/SARC
Jim Treacher “calling out” all the misogyny in Captain Marvel reviews is gold, internet gold.
Why are you posting? you should be elbow deep in that bartender poon. Assuming that’s what you ‘really’ want.
That is the dream. I do mean dream–my bestest bud is the one who got to actually experience it.

The only one that was spot on was M&M.
Milo Minderbinder?
Was he he a Doctor?
I’ll be honest, I thought that was the inspiration for both Mentok and Freezoid from Harvey Birdman till I looked him up.
We don’t borrow, we don’t read, we don’t rent, we don’t lease, we take the minds. So, in conclusion, we are…?
‘We are the Champions’?
HERE WE ARE
BORN TO BE KINGS, WE’RE THE PRINCES OF THE UNIVERSE
Oh, wait, that’s not Champions.
Damnit, I needed to hear it now so do you!
Speaking of which-
Roxanne Hart, of Highlander fame, had a cameo in the last episode of this season’s True Detective.
It’s been a while, and she was playing a rather dowdy widow…but not bad in 2019.
Dumb question from the relatively computer-illiterate: Using the Link button, what are “Hover” and “Fill” for? Is “Hover” what will show up if you hover over the link before clicking? Are either or both of these optional?
Yes.
“Fill” is the button you click when you’re done. It was called something else in Monocle, forget what.
Thanks! I’m a Monocle/Eyepiece virgin, so y’all please be gentle!
That’s just asking for a STVE SMITH joke, but I’m not the one.
https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2019/03/tonya-harding-survived-domestic-violence-will-share-her-story-at-university-of-oregon-fundraiser.html
Survived DV that she… instigated? She was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend several years after the kneecapping.
Be sad for her, 25 years later she can’t ice skate.
Ooof….25-year-younger me wouldn’t have kicked 25-year-younger Tonya out of bed (as long as “Gillooly” wasn’t uttered).
Now…..I mean…DAMN.
Those are some road miles, there.
I still wood horse face, then and now.
Something something “Different strokes”…
I was gonna go with a “Gustave comes in handy” joke, but thought better of it. Heh…
Seriously, though–if you like, more power to you, dear Glib.
Just to be clear, that’s Kerrigan.
Now, see….you went and changed the whole context!
Actually, I could never get on board with Nancy. Maybe she’s aged better. But, horse face is horse face (for me).
I’m beginning to think I should keep my thoughts on Lewinski to myself…
When some one asks for a ‘Y’ on wheel of fortune my mom still mocks Nancy Kerigan, she’s such a sexist!
My greatest fear is after an a night with me, she’d be bawling on the floor “Whyyyy me??? Whyyyy????”
Post-Waters Floyd may be shittest Floyd, but damn, some of these songs were fun.
Shittiest? But then The Division Bell is my favorite Floyd album.
I never cared for Floyd or his Pinkos.
Lyrically, yeah… I’m not going to box over it, but Waters is, if nothing else, a superior lyricist.
But when I want some quality ennui, Division Bell is where I go.
Alllll weeee neeeed tooo doooo issss keeeepp taaawwwking.
Ok, I’ll grant you the weak lyrics.
I’ll be honest… the reason I got on the Floyd kick tonight… is I was excited about my brief, meaningless interactions with my wine stain girlfriend at the bar, and I needed to temper my mood, and Division Bell winds up a good couple kicks to the teeth.
A single forgery operation allegedly created over 10K documents (this is the same feds that overcharge and exaggerate in other cases). I’m sure this is the only one too.

But none of them went to illegal immigrants, because except for that first crime they never ever commit another crime?
(That made me sound way more neocon than I am, but that’s one of those stupid fallacies that gets me pissed off)
Yeah, I expect that the average American is ignorant of the fact the almost every illegal immigrant (from nations to the south of us) to the US is coming from, and expecting eventually to be returning to, an environment where obeying the law is rarely considered. Where LEO’s are often indistinguishable from narcos (and are too often one and the same). Their main objective in obeying the law while in the US is simply to not get caught and sent somewhere they had not intended to go. (I am aware that there are times when they get caught intentionally just to get a free flight home).
Like I said, the fallacy is that even a US citizen can’t do the things they do legally. Work for under minimum wage? Not pay into SSI? etc, if you’re an actual citizen these are things you have to worry about; but the fallacy of the left is that the only crime an illegal imigrant EVER does is cross an imaginary line. All things being equal, that is true, but all things aren’t equal.
See, they’re victims of unscrupulous employers! We need to make sure those illegals are compensated for their lost wages and given SSI credits for their work, even if they used a fraudulent SSN. I can see the Democrats next illegal alien normalization push now.
Damn them all to hell, every time they open their mouth Trump sounds smarter. How in the holy hell is that possible? It makes my brain hurt!
Midterms this week, then spring break next week. We spent a week going over tensor products in algebra class recently. It was the most conceptually difficult topic that I have studied. What are some of the most difficult topics other glibs have come across?
My love of glibertarians.com with my wife.
Or are you talking just school?
On a more serious note, I don’t recall being truly stymied by anything at school – which almost certainly means I aimed too low.
It’s good that you’re expanding your brain with difficult topics.
I was the probably that ‘movie character type’ in all my college classes, I’d come without a notebook and the prof would challenge me and by the end of the first day they saw my ‘rebel ways’ worked.

Series in Calc II. I don’t know why, but that’s where I tapped out. A couple times. I’m not the best student, but maybe that’s indicative in itself. Since then it’s been one slow realization after another that I’m really pretty dumb.
I’m teaching calc 1&2 recitations this semester. Series are one of my my favorite sections of calc 2. It’s suprising how much you forget after a few years. There are many times I come across content I don’t remember ever learning.
That makes it sound like a cult. Of this approve.
Do you taylor your lessons for the students?
*aggressive frown*
Calc 2 sucked. Calc 3 was a cakewalk in comparison. Diff EQ sucked again, but not as bad as Calc 2.
Difficult or things I didn’t give shit about?
There are like 6 Madison glibs, have you ever had a meetup? I mean, driving into the real state to meet the likes of me is too hard, but yall could get together.
Yep-Algebra.
Of course, it seemed a bit easier when, several years later, I took Symbolic Logic.
“Huh…that looks kinda like Algebra. Ohhh…..”
Good times.
Yeah, the best math class I ever took was math applied to politics (don’t remember the actual name) and for the first time it interested me and I ‘got it’
Not that I never ‘got it’ but my problem isn’t so much with math, as remembering what I was doing.
Ditto. Applied math classes are often belittled as for dummies, but I found them more engaging.
Sensors here as well. Never sank in.
PhD-level classes in Semitic languages as an undergrad that were text-based and had no verbal or spoken components. Way beyond me and I had grades to prove it.
So you’re saying you’re anti-semtic?
Current situation –
Down Side: Last week I quit my job because it was eating me alive (horrendous overtime, days-off were often spent in the office anyway, boss was Hell’s-own-micromanager).
Up Side: Vendor from the last project I was working on is discussing bringing me on board – first job would be a couple weeks on a South Pacific island.
Look at Mr. Fancy Pants.
A couple of weeks there? Great.
Extended periods of time? Hell.
I have mixed emotions about my time living and work in that region, but the pace of everything drove me crazy. Island Time is real.
Yeah. The job would be quick and busy with little reliance on local talent. Just work within our team and one higher-level local manager (foreiegner)
Okay, that doesn’t sound too bad.
If there’s a local Peace Corps contingent, ignore their holier-than-thou attitude and, if so moved, asked what goddamn expertise they have other than a second-rate degree from a NE liberal arts school
I hope Derpy is doing well wherever he is.
Didn’t he go to definitely, no sir, the not DLI? I know there’s a mandatory waiting period to go from the Peace Corps to civilian intel agencies, but I don’t think it applies to the military.
Yes, last he was going to a deployment/assignment with limited to no communication. One time Peace Corps volunteer in his backstory.
Last I remember is a prohibition on being deployed to a country where you were once a PC volunteer. I don’t think there was a time limitation on it.
I should write an article on the peace corps, but it would be entirely one-sided and from an outsider’s perspective on a single location. On the plus side, seeing their operation at arms length finished off whatever naive young liberal views I had left. Which weren’t much when I got to see things up close.
No – this is not an NGO/Gov’t related deal. It’s a tech upgrade to tourist-related facilities. All private sector. Very small niche company.
How quickly will I get muted?

Who will mute first?
I already did a tittay post, but no one responded to mine. So go about your debauchery.
Me to all Glibs.
You Farley or are you Norm?
I’m always Farley.
I DON’T WANT TO STAY AT YOUR PLACE
Mitch, I’m lonely.
Farley died when I was in basic training. Like everything else that happened (Clinton admitting his affair), it never felt like I lived through outside events but rather learned about them after the fact like history. ‘Chris Farley died? When did that happen?’
If Gender Traitor is still around: in answer to your question from the Brain Toilet, I’m not sure if DHEA has effects on prostate or not. If you’re worried, have Mr. GT ask his doctor.
Would it make me more confident and happy, and less reliant on alcohol, and less neurotic and more outgoing, and just… everything?

Thanks, Q. My concern was not for him but for all of you. All I know is that his treatment for Round 2, along with radiation, was hormone therapy , designed to…um…do the opposite of the T supps.
The Princes of the Universe music video is a lot like Full Metal Jacket, two halves that work better separately.

Since I’ll be missing Morning Links anyways a little more toxic masculinity from the Winter War.

This should surprise no one.
*monotone sarcasm*
I could not forsee any of these consequences whatsoever.

This person either has never met anyone who has ever worked in the service industry or is just incredibly thick. Turnover, cover churn, whatever you call it is very much an explicit goal of every food service establishment and is, in fact, the only way they stay in business.
