I’d like to thank Jesse for covering the Links yesterday in my absence. I appreciate his desire to only emasculate me in person. This having a job thing is not optimal. But it beats the alternative. I hope everyone has their Friday and weekend plans in place. My wife and I are taking the kids to go see/ride on Thomas tomorrow. Which leads me to ponder — just how much enjoyment could I wring out of my kids by setting a big pile of money on fire? I may try it some time. Just to see down the line if they talk more about things like the Thomas ride or that time their crazy dad set a bunch of money on fire.
Bernie suffers old person slip and fall. Maybe… being President isn’t for him.
I’m thinking the program for placing alumni in mental health facilities in Florida may have some drawbacks. That’s mean. You don’t have to have mental problems to have a haircut like that… But it helps.
Poor dog falls victim to veterinarians not believing their own tests. Paid them back before being euthanized by exposing them to y. pestis
Here’s a throwback article that popped onto one of my feeds that was a good interview.
I know its only been five days, but surviving the Cryptid Takeover feels like 30 days in the hole.
>>the kids to go see/ride on Thomas
Thomas the Tank Engine I assume? Been there done that – three times!!
Yep.
Did you guys ever do the Polar Express in Owosso? We took kids one time. They loved it.
Brett is the Fat Conductor?
Ringo was the best conductor.
George Carlin ftw
Ringo was much better.
Fight me.
I hate to judge people on their appearance, but damn that guy makes it hard not to.
Uncle Bernie looking more like droopy dog every day?
He looks like the guy who didn’t have a full-time job until he was 40.
Did he even get a job at 40?
Lousy lazy commie lout.
Politician – sort of a job.
I got a kind of job today, if you take my meaning.
What was his name?
Pics or it didn’t happen.
Was the interview something like this?
Wait, that was the guy working at the mental hospital? Was is some sort of transition from patient to employee program?
Or the physio mental health guy?
When I read it was Pinellas Park, I was expecting to see a picture of Fez Whately.
why not both?
I was thinking about the mental health guy in Florida, but after looking at Bern, the same applies.
That picture of Bernie….. wow.
It looks like Grandpa Simpsons escaped the home again.
I was about to start the caption contest.

Why blame robots, when you can blame Republikkkins and their kkkorporate master?
But while there have always been some victims of technological progress, until the 1970s rising productivity translated into rising wages for a great majority of workers. Then the connection was broken. And it wasn’t the robots that did it.
What did? There is a growing though incomplete consensus among economists that a key factor in wage stagnation has been workers’ declining bargaining power — a decline whose roots are ultimately political.
———
And the decline of unions has made a huge difference. Consider the case of trucking, which used to be a good job but now pays a third less than it did in the 1970s, with terrible working conditions. What made the difference? De-unionization was a big part of the story.
And these easily quantifiable factors are just indicators of a sustained, across-the-board anti-worker bias in our politics.
Which brings me back to the question of why we’re talking so much about robots. The answer, I’d argue, is that it’s a diversionary tactic — a way to avoid facing up to the way our system is rigged against workers, similar to the way talk of a “skills gap” was a way to divert attention from bad policies that kept unemployment high.
Robots didn’t destroy those jobs. It were teh plutocratz.
Solidarity, Comrades!
Paging Gordilocks to the white courtesy phone if he’s still around.
I was chatting with my chiropractor and he said his brother drives for some oil company out in west Texas hauling frac sand. 12 hour shifts, free room to crash, free food. He said the only thing his brother actually purchased is cigarettes. He didn’t say what he made, but I imagine it’s in the $40k to $60k range.
My friend Billy, may he RIP, was a truck driver / tow truck driver over in Iraq, and then the oil fields. He made some good coin.
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t higher. He’s probably making more like $75-$100k. CDL in the middle of the oil patch? I’d bet he makes at least $30/hr.
At a VA facility in Big Spring they had a GS-11 leave the VA to drive a truck in Midland. A GS-11 makes between $60-72K/year.
Damn!
Damn your nimble fingers!
Maybe he means the terrible working conditions imposed by the government.
“growing though incomplete consensus “, in other words, “a vocal minority”
Um, the development of quick and easy urine tests for marijuana and amphetamines. Rules and monitoring of eight hour driving shifts. Etc.
Yep. All imposed by government after the union requested them.
Bwahahahahah
I literally debunked this very claim last week
I was wondering why Krug an did not quote you. You should contact Contra Krug an. Maybe they will.
And the decline of unions has made a huge difference. … Which brings me back to the question of why we’re talking so much about robots.
Well, robots do make for good scabs, and scabs undermine the power of a union, so…
A Class8 long-haul guy in the US will be in this range:
25MPH * 2,200hours * $0.60/mile = $33,000
40MPH * 3,000hours * $0.80/mile = $96,000
HOS means hours of service: the federal rules have bumped around a bit, and GPS monitoring makes it harder for guys to illegally book the hours it took to make “good” money in the years after deregulation. In any event, expect the best part of 60 hours per week to make a solid wage with your off time spent in the sleeper or a dirty cafe somewhere.
Different kinds of loads and hazards require different endorsements that garner better scale. Guys out west make more miles; guys east often get downtown bumps. Back in my day looking at warranty reports, I routinely found trucks running over 150,000miles per year, but most of those would have been driver teams.
Owner/operators get about a buck a mile more, and almost none of them understand how bad a deal it is or how bad they are at it until a bankruptcy lawyer explains it to them; some of my uncles had to get that lecture twice. If owning a truck were a good idea, the fleets wouldn’t let you have one for any amount of money (sidebar: wait til the Uber sorts figure this out).
30MPH is pretty common: drive all day at 60 and then sit at a dock; sleeping doesn’t count.
It’s a decent job for people who don’t mind missing watching their kids grow up or can’t find anything else to do. With my uncles, they’re just not capable of showing up at a job and punching a clock and doing what they’re told all day.
I love trucks; I love building them and have had parts on every brand and on every continent; I shudder at every facet of the business of operating them.
My no-good, worthless, dead-beat, loud-mouth, can’t-hold-a-job, get-rich-quick-schemer uncle tried OTR trucking for a while.
And that’s where it all went wrong.
Looks like the mental health worker likes to grab the breasts of women while they’re sleeping.
BTW, what does Q do for a living? No reason.
What is your problem, Sinbad?
Nice to know Al Franken could find work.
Consider the case of trucking, which used to be a good job but now pays a third less than it did in the 1970s, with terrible working conditions. What made the difference? De-unionization was a big part of the story.
Where is our 21st century Jimmy Hoffa?
Giants stadium?
OK…. quick question, and then I have to run. Will check back in half an hour.
Who has been to or taken their kids to the waterpark capital in Wisconsin? Was it worth it? Anything else to do there if it turns into a 4-5 day vacation?
We have gone to the Wilderness multiple times, in Feb or March and really enjoyed it. We go in the middle of the week and it’s not so busy and have a lot of fun. This last time we bought someone’s Wyndham timeshare off Ebay and that was significantly cheaper than the hotel room prices and a nicer and bigger place to stay. It was a 3 bedroom 2 bath for ~$600 for four nights.
We fill four days with just the indoor waterparks and activities Wilderness has on site. During the summer there is more stuff to do besides waterparks though.
Indoor…? Is it kind of like Great Wolf Lodge?
Looking it up now, thx.
Wait…. so that single hotel is claiming to have 8 waterparks?
They have a large property. 2 large indoor water parks, 1 indoor wave pool, and 1 smaller indoor water park (very small / shy kid friendly). Indoor go karts, escape room (haven’t done) ropes course (fun), enormous indoor 3D cube / tunnel system for kids, multiple game / arcade rooms. That doesn’t include their outdoor stuff, I’m not terribly familiar with it.
My bro has done Kalahari a couple times. Have you ever been there?
No, but I would not hesitate to recommend that place as well. Lots of good reports from people who have been.
I texted him. He said to stay in the Sands building, as it has a full kitchen.
I could easily eat up 3-4 days there. Thx.
I’ve never been to the Dells, but my nieces and nephew go almost every year and they love it. (age range 6-16 and all love it)
My weekend plans are in place. I am traveling to beautiful Grand Rapids, Michigan to play our sled hockey league championship. In three weeks we wrap up the season with the National Disabled Hockey Festival in even more beautiful Tampa, FL. Hopefully some Florida Glibs can make it to that one. (I’m looking at you Brett L).
Hope you do well and enjoy Tampa.
Oh, god. Ybor city. I used to work for Progressive Ins. many years ago and we had a training center there. The manager’s advice for new hires was to show up on time with a reasonable hangover, don’t get anyone pregnant, and don’t get pregnant. That was a fun two weeks for someone right out of college.
That’s an incredibly reasonable set of expectations.
Nice! Playing Van Andel? If you’re staying downtown you are a few minutes from a ton of bars and Founders and Bon Vivant.
Thanks I am going to Orlando with the kids the week before so it’s going to be a lot of Florida for a while. No complaints here.
So you’re not going to Mons Venus is what you’re saying.
Yeah, let me know and I’ll come out and cheer you on. That’s the first weekend in April?
It’s April 4-7. I don’t have the venue or schedule yet. I’ll post something that week. This is the biggest one of the year. Last year it was in Chicago and we had 750+ players participate.
I think I saw the Lightning training facility is hosting/had hosted sled hockey stuff. I can definitely make it over there.
Great! I think you will have fun.
Grand Rapids represent! There are a few Michigan inmates here. What rink are you playing at?
Patterson Ice Arena.
I drive by there at least four times a week.
and my son used to go to practice there, plus I go there for the local HS games.
Swing by if you can. I play for Chicago Blackhawks and I wear #2. I play Saturday at 1:10pm and 8:30pm, and Sunday at 7:30am and then either 12:20pm or 1:40pm depending on our record.
I’ll see what I can do – Saturday night is taken up by general debauchery but Sunday might work,
Good luck, Kevin! Remember what the Great One said: You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.
Make us proud!
Go you!
Awesome Kevin! Good luck and enjoy, sounds like a hoot!
“This having a job thing is not optimal. But it beats the alternative.”
Some folks on the mid-day article say otherwise.
Which war you ask WWII? Yup, that worked out awesome.
My weekend plans include Lunch With Lesbians. I of course will ask them if they drive a Subaru.
You can do better than that. Where’s your glib spirit?
“So, girls – Forester or Outback?”
“Tuna or salmon?” I mean, let’s go all the way with this.
“U-haul”
Amirite??? High five?
Cmon, don’t leave me hanging!
The FJ Cruiser always struck me as a lesbian vehicle.
Don’t ask them. Assume it, as Tonio suggested.
Lol. My sister and her partner refuse to buy one. Not woke enough. They drive Prii.
Funny! Mine drives an F150 just like yours! And they ride Harleys too!
Are you calling me a lesbian?
Oh, wait…
Well she did play hockey too!
I’m pretty sure she’s the butch in her relationship though, so there’s that…
Funbag Friday continues!

I wonder if Krugabe knows it was the Carter administration that neutered the Interstate Commerce Commission.
“I wonder if Krugabe knows _____”.
The answer is, no he doesn’t know.
I think he’s just pretending to be retarded for the money.
If you want to refute Krugabe, just quote something he said 20 years ago when he was far less crazy.
Enron paid him to appear sane.
I literally debunked this very claim last week
Yeah, that was almost the first thing I thought of. I guess that proves Krugabe’s not a lurker.
Too bad. He might learn something.
He might learn something.
There is absolutely no evidence to support this supposition.
Well all, I’m not going to be around much this weekend. Hope you all enjoy your time, drink some Guinness and Irish Whiskey. Off to see the Tossers tonight, to a brewery anniversary tomorrow, and downtown in the morning for free concerts (Pogues cover band) and then to a friends house for a party.
Keep the place safe, free Cascadia, and fuck off tulpa, each and every one.
I’m throwing a St. Patty day party this Saturday – so fuck off, Tulpa.
“You don’t have to have mental problems to have a haircut like that… But it helps.”
Anybody with a haircut like that, you know he’s an asshole.
What about this haircut?
Johnny Unitas, he had hair you could set a watch to.
Lol. The new guy! Go Bison!
I can’t think of a movie scene other than dumb and dumber haircuts, so here’s a barber in Vegas using giant scissors.
I watched until about 2:30 then asked myself, “why am I watching some guy get a haircut?”
Government gives me a haircut every year. Prolly you to, with no appointment
Bernie suffers old person slip and fall. Maybe… being President isn’t for him.
I clicked this link hoping there’d be a picture of Bernie befuddled with a dressing on his head. I wasn’t disappointed.
You’re going to get befuddled Bernie 99% of the time. The head dressing really makes it work, though.
How can Budweiser Copper Lager be so good when their normal product is such swill? I have to assume the purposely make the normal stuff taste like piss.
Budweiser is engineered to taste the exact same, every time, in all of their breweries everywhere in the world. There’s a certain amount of lowest common denominator that goes into that. Also, Copper Lager probably has less rice and more barley in it.
Of the big three LCD beers, I find Budweiser to be significantly better than no-flavor Coors or piss-flavored Millers.
But you are correct, the Copper Lager was shockingly good.
At least as good as a random craft beer, or just way better than Bud Heavies?
I’ve had much worse random craft beers.
Probably less intense flavor than most craft beers, but very nice and smooth. Goes down too easy for safety.
There’s a certain amount of lowest common denominator that goes into that.
I was going to argue much the same thing. It’s a mistake to assume that the brewmasters at Anheuser-Busch are anything other than extremely competent. Thety aren’t brewing regular Budweiser because they can’t brew anything else. In fact, my understanding is that their pale lager is actually one of the harder and more unforgiving beers to brew. A slight mistake will screw it up. They make what they make because they want to sell their product to as many people as they can. And that particular style is going to have the most mass appeal, including to people who aren’t regular beer drinkers.
A few years back I went to the old new Carlsberg facility in Copenhagen. They have a craft imprint that’s doing a surprisingly good job of nailing various craft styles in accessible, but not bland ways. After weeks of just drinking Tuborg and Carlsberg it was pretty delightful, but I was impressed at how deftly they were working on styles well outside their comfort zone.

Escalade?? DOES SHE KNOW THE WORLD IS GOING TO END IN 12 YEARS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE HER?????
Not people like her, people like *us*. She is one of our betters now.
“some Escalade”
We had it, folks. We had the bomb, and the moon landing, and the 72 Plymouth Barracuda. But then the next generation just pissed on it all.
She is only going to get more insufferable with time.
If gawd had a sense of humor, Pelosi would suffer some illness that forced her to step down as Speaker, and Gulag Barbie replaced her. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to calculate the level of entertainment that would result.
“I’m not a superhero. I’m not a villain.” No, you’re just an actress.
If by actress you mean hand-puppet you are exactly right.
I have the support of the mods, the support of commodius spittoon, the support of Strippers for Heroic Mulatto — I have tough people, but they don’t play it tough until they go to a certain point and then it would be very, very bad.
…the support of Strippers for Heroic Mulatto…
There’s a PAC I can get behind.
Imma guess there is a whole lot of behind to get.

They need a better acronym. Something like THICCPAC.
And in front of them, and on top of them, and under them…
I heard you don’t have the support of the mods, you have dirt ON the mods.

OMWC made a sex tape.

So a horror flick.
No. Comedic farce.
This is the reason I read the Glibs, come for info, stay for the laughs.
I hadn’t seen OMWC’s O-face since grade school!

Speaking of St Paddy’s Day- I bet they’ll be having a time of it in Butte, what with all the snow which has been falling for the last few eeks.
*St Paddy’s is a massive festival of drunken foolishness in Butte, every year. I stay well away.

You can bump that up to a 9.5 if the mare has no teeth.
Really though, that only matters when you sober up.
We had a 24 hour rain Thursday/Friday. Magically condensed the snow down to a 1/2. The weather becomes spring like now and its gonna be great again.

Dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick?
As much as I enjoy piling on Sanders for his economic ignorance, I’ll concede that he does strike me as a tough old geezer. The article states that he went to a walk-in clinic which is admittedly pretty badass for 77 year old. I’ve met people half his age who’d have called for an ambulance over lesser injuries.
He is from the Bronx, after all. That’s stuck in my head thanks to SF.
The first thing I thought of was Harry Reid getting assaulted by his exercise machine.
I’ve responded to people half his age who’d have called for an ambulance over lesser injuries.
He might have wanted to avoid publicity.
Absolutely perfect song for the end of the week. Thanks, Brett!

Man i needed to come here for some sanity. I post on a New York Yankee forum that is full of lefties and has a political section.
Everyone is up in arms and blaming Trump for this latest one–in addition to what happened in Pittsburgh and the mail bomber and in Quebec and….
Wife nearly got into an argument last night with her long time buddies over Trump. They were spewing vile over him and when she asked them for details on why they hate him so the morons said “We dont like the way he looks.” She tried pressing them further and got “We dont want to get into it”
Not policy, not ideas, not results, his looks. Vapid imbeciles. I really wish she would get different friends.
At least they’re consistent. When pressed why they supported any Democrat, they had no specifics either. Occasionally you run into a Democrat because abortion but that’s it. Otherwise they’re just obeying orders.
How many people become democrats: You can only be a democrat or a republican, and those republicans are all racist bible thumpers who shoot guns from their pickup trucks. You’re not one of those, are you?
My wife is a Trumpinista but/and when Rep Omar is mentioned she becomes a racist. Other than that she is a very nice little old lady.
Nice old lady.

Solid comedic effort, but I like this one better:
https://twitter.com/Imamofpeace/status/1098390622808039431
That one absolutely wins Twitter.
And there you have the perfect snapshot of what real war is like.
The Egyptians reportedly told Hamas that if it responded heavily to the Israeli strikes, there would be a major escalation of conflict. Hamas did fire several more rockets across the border early Friday.
Also touched off by accident?
Saving face. Much brave, very martyr.
On the morningthread someone asked about blocking autoplay video.
I use Third Party Request Blocker. I trust it because it’s Russian. I figure Russia has a larger percentage of people understanding government surveillance than America does. Edward Snowden, for example.
How can this be Trump’s first Veto?
When Congress doesn’t bother to govern, President doesn’t have to shout “bad dog!” at them?
Nominally, Trump and the Congressional Republicans, who still controlled both houses 2 months ago, are in the same party.
I’m struggling to think of one piece of legislation Republicans put through besides the tax cuts.
W didn’t issue a Veto until the Dems took over congress in 2006.
Because the R’s didn’t sent him much to sign? No Obamacare repeal, no immigration reform, no gun control repeal, a weak tea tax repeal, no estate tax repeal….I have to stop now or the veins in my neck are going to burst.
Idea: (for the future, can’t be done now obviously):
Change the emergency act law so that a simple majority of congress can block any emergency action. That way the convenience of emergency acts still exists but congress can take back its power more easily to block them.
Because the threat of a veto prevented legislation from getting to his desk. The whole govt “shutdown” was about Trump threatening a veto, and then both chambers of Congress were trying to come up with something he would sign, with the Senate blocking anything he wouldn’t sign.
It’s hard to get a virtue signaling thing vetoed when at least one chamber of Congress slaps it down.

Here in The Rockaways it can be had for $0.89 per pound. We’ve been filling the chest freezer as we empty out the prime rib from a sale several months ago. A little stout, a bunch of pepper and into the sous vide for 10 hours @ 180°. Good stuff.
They had a “limit 4 per” last year. So I went back 3 times.
My best outcome was “converting” to pastrami. Dry coat with coriander, mustard, brown sugar, and black pepper. Let it sit in the fridge for 4 days.
Sous vide at 145 for 48 hours. I ate some as is; absolutely delicious. I also froze some of it, and ran it through the meat slicer at 1mm. A quick pan fry with honey mustard, and it’s perfect on rye.
I wish I had figured it out sooner. By the time I started making pastrami, I was on my 2nd to last cut.
It’s a shame you don’t know anyone who made a bunch of sauerkraut and is prone to making partial sourdough onion carraway ryes
If you’re using store bought corned beef for pastrami, make sure you do a fry test before smoking. Some commercial corned beef has too much salt and needs some soaking.
I know you’re against sous vide and you want it off of your lawn, but this is one of the best things to ever come out of my kitchen:

Two updates on the NZ shootings. First, the prime minister declares “our gun laws will change.” Second, New Zealand Herald is reporting that some guy tried to get into the courthouse to “knife” the shooter.
Wait. Didn’t the shooter say just that during the livestream?
Way to not let the terrorists “win”.
Well… when they’re our terrorists, it’d be wrong not to let them win, for the childrun.
Never let an oppurtunity to crack down go to waste. It’s disgusting really.
The ratchet only goes one way.
Other than going full Australian confiscation, I’m not sure how they can get anymore strict.
Even the confiscation wasn’t that successful, was it?
Nope. But, reasons.
our gun laws will change
And? The attack at a concert in France proved pretty definitively that laws are immaterial to people intent on committing acts of violence. (If I remember correctly, those terrorists had automatic weapons, and while I am not intimately familiar with gun laws in France I am pretty sure the average person is not allowed to have firearms of any significance relative to modern technology.
It’s a politician. Gun laws are not about preventing deaths. They’re about getting re-elected for “doing something” and reminding the tax payers who’s in charge.
Let me guess…the knife didn’t have a GPS tracker in it.
Fourscore, if you are out there, I really enjoyed your retirement article. I won’t hit the 55 retirement mark (or 65, probably!), but your thought process was terrific. Thanks for writing it up!

Hmm, apparently there is now going to be a 24-team Club World Cup: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47586593
Interesting but how do you organize the qualifiers?
From Wikipedia:
The new tournament, planned to start in 2021, would be held every four years instead of annually, would feature 24 teams and 31 matches. It would include all UEFA Champions League winners, runners-up and Europa League winners from the four seasons up to and including the year of the event. Aside from the 12 European teams, there would be four or five from South America, none or one from Oceania and two each from Asia, North America and Africa. They would be divided into eight groups of three with the group winners progressing to the knockout stage.[118] Gianni Infantino has said that investors can promise $25 billion in revenue from 2021 to 2033.[119]
But details still seem to be lacking.
I dunno about that but I just saw this:
Liverpool v Porto (April 9 at Anfield, April 17 at Estadio do Dragao)
Finally they get a good draw. Not that Bayern Munich was much of a challenge.
And speaking of English football, just this week I discovered the Sheffield United club song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sLb9F_PDqg
Heh. I’m rooting for them for promotion. And Leeds.
West Brom and Norwich and Middlesbrough can stay right where they are thank you very much.
Yeah, I could go along with that (they play each other tomorrow). Although, I’m not sure how long SU would last. Leeds, OTOH, seem to be building toward something bigger: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47380612
I was watching them a few weeks ago and thought to myself, “These guys are better than a good number of the teams in the Premiere League right now.” Oh and that “SpyGate” thing was BS. OMG his assistants watched the other team practice!
So they’re going to go bankrupt again?
Read through the retirement thread. A lot of food for thought with dad slow-motion retiring from his business of ~30 years and not knowing what to do or how to make ends meet. (Aside from selling off the small portfolio of rentals he’s accumulated over the years.) I’m getting started in my career and thinking that maybe putting some money into his ventures isn’t a terrible idea. He’s got a good sense for property development and know-how and time. They say don’t do business with family, but he and I are close and he’s kept me working for several years.
Thank you for your support.
You are a tough guy.
Who is ‘they’? I’ve had waaaaaay better luck working with family than friends. I just ran into a guy who took over his dad’s real estate biz and cut the old man a check for $325k for 2018.
Every situation is different. ‘They’ don’t know shit.
Yeah, there’s a world of difference between taking money from family for a venture promising returns, running a business as a partnership with family, and working for/with the old man with an eye for taking over/buying him out.
If Cousin Eddie is asking for money, don’t do it.
Otherwise, working with family is fine (assuming your family doesn’t suck).
I couldn’t know your situation, but most folks let emotion mess that sort of thing up.
Promises and understandings ruin everything and everybody: cash now is the only way to know where you stand with anyone anywhere. So don’t ever “go into business” with someone: take a salary or sell yourself as a consultant; no promises, hopes, or dreams required. You could buy a property, but would you really get in the rental game if this weren’t family? He can sell his property to a complete stranger for what it’s worth and leave you and your cash out of it. Also, don’t go into rentals with leverage: again, no one ever truly understood a transaction but what they counted out bills on a table. The correct way to help someone is to let them struggle on their own and give them cash when they need it; all other roads cost more in the final analysis.
I’d buy his this today. Everyone is running out of time to learn how to live on what they make; there’s no getting around it.
Had I gone into business with family things would not have worked out too long or too well.
Ex. Brother 1’s wife: “I think those other guys are taking advantage of you”
Brother 2’s wife: “Why are you always working late and the other guys gets off at 5?”
My Ex: Why are those other guys getting the same pay as you, you’re the smart guy that has the ideas?”
The boys would have been fine but the wives would not have been happy
“Bernie suffers old person slip and fall. Maybe… being President isn’t for him.”
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but I am guessing he got a visit from the Clinton people….
He would have needed a lot more than 7 stitches.
+2 head shots
US women’s soccer team suing for equal pay:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-08/national-team-women-s-soccer-players-sue-for-equal-pay
Why should they get equal pay when the revenue they generate is way less than the men’s team?
If they can beat the Mexican National Team, I say pay them the same. Chicharrito is going to kick their ass.
Equal pay to whom? There is no relation to the men’s team whatsoever.
I’ll bet kneelin’ Rapinoe is the ringleader of this nonsense.
They love to play the card that the women earned more in 2015 than the men. So in a year with their biggest tourney and not a single big men’s tourney they do better. Ignore all the other years though, or comparing World Cup year to World Cup year. It amazes me how dishonest people are when they want something.
TBF, they win more games than the men’s team.
And they have to buy wedding presents: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47576553
I met my first glib in meat space today. Tundra came to my son’s hockey game this afternoon. I really enjoyed it! He knows his hockey and about being a hockey parent. Hopefully there will be other opportunities to get together. I’d like to meet the other MN contingent too. Sounds like a fun group, even for an extreme introvert like me!
Unfortunately our team lost, but they accomplished a lot just to get here. Probably the toughest hockey competition in the USA in this state, so they have a lot to be proud of!
“and about being a hockey parent.”
Fighting other dads?
No way. The moms are scary as hell.
It was my grandma…sweet 4’10” grandma that used to scare the refs during my younger years in hockey
No. I have that part down.
Relevant: Earlier this year a parent from another team was complaining about how “rough” our kids were, claiming the coach went overboard saying the kids should use the body while playing the puck (no checking at this level anymore). He told his kid during intermission (who happened to be out with a concussion) that if he was playing he would offer 20 bucks to take out our biggest kid. Irony of that comment aside, one of our moms heard him and called him on it. The back and forth got pretty heated. I finally (stupidly) butted in and told him to just stop. He got even more pissed. I thought he was going to throw down right in front of the concession stand! Turns out he is pretty white trash and the other parents on his team hate him too. Fucking parents are the worst.
One of my assistant coaches told our biggest kid to drop the opposing center after the face off, so of course the kid did. The other kid was a serious asshole, but that’s not how I rolled. (Don’t get me wrong – the little fucker deserved it, but that’s not the way to do it).
We were playing the Cake Eaters, so complaints were made, Coach Tundra was castigated by the opposing coach, opposing parents and the league. After hearing what I had to say, nothing else happened. I lit up my assistant, sent him into apologize to the guys and we finished the season fine.
I love sports. But parents are fucking retards.
Good for you. People need to take responsibility for their actions. Hopefully the kids learned something too.
kids should use the body while playing the puck
Brows were raised over EscapedJunior in his day: other skaters just bounced off of him like Roetlisberger wading through safeties, so if he got anywhere near the puck it looked bad. He was 100 pounds on his seventh birthday and would just take you down every time when all that weight hit you in the thighs at speed; I never could deal with him at any age or weight. He hasn’t laced up in over a decade but remains a Zubov disciple.
I always told the big kids not to sweat penalties. When there is such a size disparity, they will get called all the time. Keep working on hands and smarts and you will be a great hockey player. You can’t teach size!
We have a couple kids on the team like that. Not crazy big, but large enough that the small kids bounce off. Unfortunately one kid is also a hothead and takes out his frustration in dumb ways. Gets way too many penalties and now has a rep…
I wouldn’t know. TUNDRA SNUBBED US.
His excuse wasn’t even believable. Vertigo so bad that he couldn’t come to dinner, yet he free dives in Turks & Caicos.
He must really not like you.
Lol. The only free diving I did in T&C was into my next cocktail.
Did you see Beaches is having issues with te government again? They are ‘shutting down’ again.
Did you ever tell them they’re your hero?
I warned you about this stuff, Ted.
At least he didn’t include a shitty link.
I was on the IR.
Believe me, meeting the Big White Dog is now on my bucket list. A business trip to Phoenix is on the docket.
Besides, SP was the only one who wanted to meet me.
She does seem like the kind who would invite someone just to be polite… 😉
“Business trip.” Riiiiiiight.
Why the fuck would I come to that hellhole for fun?!?
I used to be down at Motorola all the time. 123 degrees one trip. You better shave the dog.
“Besides, SP was the only one who wanted to meet me.”
I’m sure OMWC would have waived his age requirements for you.
Watching hockey is the best way to play hooky. Thanks for the invite!
Extreme introvert? No way, dude. I know too many Aspies. If any of you get the opportunity – hang out with Stillhunter – he’s a groovy guy!
It was fun to meet the Stillhunter family, too. His oldest, the player, is such a cool kid. When he came up to the lobby, he was disappointed but conducted himself like a man. We ended up talking preferred equipment, as real hockey players do!
It was a great game, great family and further solidifies You People as the best!
Like most introverts I have my moments! Definitely prefer the small group to large group banter.
Thanks for the kind words. Your pep talk to my boy was great! I’m not good at that stuff. He was crying a bit in the car and didn’t want to go in the restaurant right away. But he got over it. Good for growth. Kids need to feel that way. Screw that trophy for everyone crap. Adversity really does build character.
Losing always teaches more. Your boy played a good game. I hope he continues to play, because he’s got good instincts. Teaching these kids to take chances even if things don’t work out is so damn hard. They are all so afraid to make mistakes.
I am more worried about your daughter. Not wanting to play hockey is disturbing 🙂
I’ve always told my kids that they may not be the most athletic, but they can be the smartest and hardest working. Those traits transfer to the world better than being the best stick handler or fastest skater.
And my daughter scares me. She may be the smartest of the bunch!
Hope you can make the Honey Harvest, Still Hunter
Family friendly
I enjoyed your write up on that and the last one on retirement too. I would seriously consider it if our schedule allows. Kids and summer make for lots of running around even for people used to hockey craziness!
Such Tolerance. Much Inclusion.
Any particular reason why all of those people are frumpy and ugly?
Because they’re in Michigan?
They are all sjw’s?
Well, yes. I’m looking for some causation here.
Nothing wrong with a few extra data points, even though the science is settled.
This is a male.

NSFW.
Where the hell do you find this stuff and why in gawds name would you even look for it in the first place?
Yeah, probably would.
Tatas.
On the one hand, I’m pretty sure I don’t want to know the answer to that, but on the other hand, I’m suddenly possessed by a kind of morbid curiosity.
As someone pointed out previously, Q does the research so we dont have to.
Yo. Potato man.
I have 2″ Yukon golds. I’m going to halve them and simmer in the corned beef liquid. How long? 25 min?
That seems sufficient
15min tops.
I hate to usurp one of our potato-kin experts, but ^this.
You don’t want overcooked, mushy potatoes.
I didn’t get a reply in time, so I’m going to what I know:
roasting.
Sorry. I was throwing a plate of shrimp chow mein down my gullet. 15 minutes would have been plenty.
That is a tastier solution IMHO anyway.
uhhhhhhhhhh
GUESS WE KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH ALL THEM NEVERTRUMP DADBOD CUCKS LOL

I’m guessing Facebook must recruit a lot of former NSA employees. Best explaination for the creepiness.
