Hey guys, still busy. Here’s ya links.
Dark matter continues to be like global warming, every explanatory hypothesis gets disproved, but it “must be there” because our math equation that predicts how mass and energy interact has a slot for it.
This is what I expected from the 21st century.
You know the greatest thing about the Trump administration may be the complete emptying of the bag of dirty tricks. Also, I’d like to apologize to anyone from TOS from pre-2014 or so, when I still had some respect for government.
Hey, guys, maybe stop charging Disney prices for an afternoon at the ballpark and more people will show up.
“Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word” ‘transcript’ “that I wasn’t previously aware of.”
Does anyone here have a problem with the document about the phone call between President Donald J. Trump (United States) and Prezydent (President) Volodymyr Zelensky (Ukraine/Ukrayiny) being called a “transcript” repeatedly by the pro-Trumpers?
It’s the only way that Presidential phone calls are memorialized, so no. There are four intelligence officers listening to the call and taking notes. Then those notes are all crossed referenced for accuracy before a final draft is written and reviewed by the DNI and others.
The Dems were all over Ukraine in 2016 looking for dirt on Trump. This is all an attempt to muddy the waters. Schiff had the whistle blower complaint in August. But that didn’t stop him from going on television and crying about how he can’t get access to the whistle blower report. There’s nothing to see here in regards to Trump.
The objection is not to a lack of a transcript but to calling this document a “transcript.” Been in meetings where notes taken, copy of notes sent to participants, replies received, decisions made, new version of notes produced.
It still doesn’t bother me. Talking heads, and the media in general, abandoned accuracy in reporting, or opining, many moons ago.
Not every transcript is a verbatim transcript. Medical transcriptionists clean up what the docs say, a lot. Even legal transcripts get edited, although usually very lightly. On occasion I have heard very detailed notes of a meeting called a transcript.
It used to mean a recording. Old time radio shows that broadcast using a recording were called transcribed.
Do you think the document of the Trump-Zelenskyy call counts as a transcript?
I’m comfortable calling it that. Not a verbatim transcript, though.
It goes to the level of detail captured in the document. There’s not a bright line between notes and a transcript.
Only if we can also stop calling the FBI agent’s handwritten notes about an official interview a transcript, too.
Without getting into accuracy or inaccuracy or intent in practice, the idea of “transcript” is a written account of the actual words used. FBI agent and transcriptionist/court reporter are different jobs.
Have they tried using dark matter for cold fusion ?
‘Sup Tres?
Why didn’t I think of that?
Not enough tall cans?
The point of the article is another failure to find dark matter. Can’t try fusing it if can’t find it.
I don’t think the cold fusion pioneers will mind the lack of matter. It certainly hasn’t stopped them before.
#blackmatterlives
They are afraid it will unbalance the Aether.
Breaking News: Dark Matter is actually your mom.
DARK MATTER FOUND IN SPACE SMITH BIG DARK SURPRISE
I prefer hot matter for light fusion.
I have a recurring dream of doing some light fusion with Kate Beckinsale.
FTA: “But just 16,699 fans show up. That means Tropicana Field, the smallest stadium in baseball with an adjusted seating capacity between 25,000 and 26,000, is about two-thirds full. Entire sections in the 200-level are empty. The night before, when the Rays took on alternate arch nemeses the Boston Red Sox, fewer than 8,800 fans could be bothered.”
And yet: “In 2019, the franchise had an estimated value of one billion U.S. dollars. The Tampa Bay Rays are owned by Stuart Sternberg, who bought the franchise for 200 million U.S. dollars in 2004. ” https://www.statista.com/statistics/194639/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-tampa-bay-rays-since-2006/

And, to make things weirder, it was proposed they share their seasons with Montreal.
How do you feel about half of the home games for the team played in Montreal? Do not overlook government and stadiums.
The problem really is the location, though. For most fans, it’s a P-I-T-A to get to.
I’m not even a Rays fan and I can tell you that moving the stadium to the Tampa side will make a significant difference.
My combination of abnormally large testicles and abnormally small, sensitive nipples has sapped me of all my confidence. I don’t know how I could possibly live another day shuffling the sac around while feeling the gentle touch of silk against my nip naps.
Anyway, I’m looking into knife collecting – can any of you help me out?
OMG, that’s brilliant. Brilliant. Write more for us, please.
/thundering applause!
Oh no, is it going to get weird around here again today?
It’s always weird here. It’s what we do.
When I sweat profusely during exercise my nipples bleed.
The only chest hair I have is a dozen or so hairs encircling each nipple. They have been referred to by others as EAP’s spiders.
I like Esse but you may as well purchase your own forge and anvil.
11-year-old charged with hate crime for beating girl on school bus
Fight! Fight! A black and two whites!
I think the bus monitor should be charged with a hate crime* as well.
*disclaimer, I think hate crime is bullshit.
See! A knife would have made that situation much more entertaining.
Pretty sure school buses have cameras these days.
God, I haven’t heard that racist jingle since grade school, and I am surprised at Crusty editing himself. Even CJ is getting all woke.
He left out the follow-up line as well.
Tiffany is a cowardly POS, and should be hung out to dry. But she’ll probably get a slap on the wrist and the taxpayers will take it coming and going.
Yeah…. what is a bus monitor’s job, exactly?
I want to know what the “victim” had been doing to earn such a beat-down. Might be even odds the perps are 100% bully, but it could be they got fed up, too.
Yes.
Is there a name for the learning disorder for those who, instead of disputing the accuracy of the phone call notes, interpret the document to mean what Adam Schiff (D- California 28) said in his opening statement or a variant of that? Is this the same learning disorder that causes so many to interpret the Constitution of the United States of America to allow “Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises” and “borrow[ed] money on the credit of the United States” instead of voluntarily donated money to pay for programs outside of enumerated powers?
That’s It. I’m sick and tired of this constant attacking of the mentally disabled. I’m out of here
Is this a riff on Lord H and soyboy or is there something in the comment to which you object?
Just Yanking everyone’s chain. I’m not sure how long that will be funny. But I assure you i’ll be cracking the joke long after it ceases to be.

It is called libtardation and it is NOT funny! I used to date a girl who was libtarded, and this is a serious disability you shitlord!
Does ‘libtardation’ include every POTUS since Calvin Coolidge? And even with Coolidge there was FAA and FCC.
In Schiff’s case it’s the condition known as Being an Absolute Tool. It’s incurable as far as I know, the only treatment is ostracization and poverty, but unfortunately those who suffer from it, tend to get the opposite which increases the condition and starts hurting those around them as well. Political power also worsens the condition, and eventually the condition can be reclassified into Evil Authoritarianistic, but those cases thankfully are rare.
We need common sense cannon control.
What was the guy packing in that thing?
It said “a wad” (no euphemism). Out of a cannon at close range, it could be very deadly.

“Over 100 people like deconstructing NYT economist Paul Krugman’s arguments so much, they went on a 7-day cruise dedicated to it”
They saw that Bloomberg got clicks and did their own version. Alexa probably has a tool built for exactly this purpose.
*Goes back to listening to Fifth Column*
Welch: And here I’m going to be a squish again
Moynihan: Uh oh, here we go. You’re going to be all rational again
Welch: I don’t know, I just feel like the CIA is super brave and should always be believed. But, local police are different and I don’t understand why people can’t separate the two
Moynihan: True. I never see articles about the CIA killing people or doing anything illegal
Kmele: Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you two?
Kmele for President. Also, would.
I’m not gay, but I definitely agree with the “would”
#methree
Well, #metwoandahalf
So you’re saying that you’re as gay as Beto?
Liberace was as gay as Beto
Surely you can’t be serious. Welch and Mynihan didn’t say that? You never see articles about the CIA killing people? You have to be making shit up.
omg
It’s parody. I should have specified that
Why? It’s not your fault Leon is a dummy.
No. The parody is piss poor. Kmele would never swear so flippantly.
*lights candle at Kmele shrine*
I don’t like that he always stays classy. Sometimes, you have to win a fight in the mud.
The parody is piss poor, that much is true.
Don’t worry, Crusty, listening to The Fifth Column is still *edgy*. It’s totally rebellious to hear two dudes recite the NYT opinion pages
See, if Eddie were here he’d be popesplaining to us That you can’t have shrines to living persons.
“Sometimes, you have to win a fight in the mud.”
True, but you don’t always have to be the person that gets muddy. That’s what you let the bloggers and podcasters do for you. And I’m not saying conspiracy; someone will always come along to grab the low-hanging fruit.
“That you can’t have shrines to living persons.”
Well there goes my Ron Paul shrine too.

What an incredibly stupid use of technology.

Hey i called it out as fake news. So really Who’s the Dummy?

Was Winston’s Mom on the cruise?
“Darling…”
It was a cruise, not a train ride.
Hell no! You know what you can catch on a cruise?
Norovirus.
Rudy Giuliani: ‘You Should Be Happy for Your Country That I Uncovered This’
Well then.
All I know is if The Atlantic’s reporting on Ukraine-gate is half as accurate as Russia Fever Dreams then clearly the intelligence community is feeding them the story
The Atlantic.
I have to wonder how much if any of that is true. I see in the links at the bottom of the page that Trump is panicking. He is desperate and in a panic. Huh.
I am sure Rudy will let us know if the author made up the quotes.
Well it is a tipping point and the walls are closing in.
The walls are closing in. It’s the beginning of the end.
Ghiuliani *is* a moron. I am confused why Trump has anything to do with him. The only explanation I can come up with is that he wants an unstable moron that he can use as what Sun Tzu would call “a doomed spy”, someone whose job is to be caught and thus deceive the enemy into reacting in a way you want them to….
Ha! Maybe that *was* his role!
He was brought on for the counter Russia Fever Dream investigation (why Guiliani? Because Trump apparently only knows like five people). Which explains, in part, why Trump was telling the Ukrainian president to help Guiliani in investigating Crowd Strike
That’s the thing. Ghiuliani is a trainwreck. He’s an even bigger fuckup than Hillary Clinton.
I just can’t believe Trump would be so stupid as to be oblivious to it.
You underestimate how stupid Trump is
But whom can Trump trust? Trump has very few competent and loyal people.
“Trump has very few competent and loyal people.”
I wonder why.
Yes, he’s to blame for a lot of it. His personality and behavior are more than a little off-putting. They say paranoid is when you only think everyone is out to get you. Well, everyone is out to get him, and only some of them actually have a solid reason for it.
I suspect his ratio of competent people is not out of line with previous administrations.
Loyal, though, very few of those, as we have seen. Many White House staffers are career bureaucrats. And they hates him, yes they do.
Are you all suggesting that we are watching a diet coke fueled version of “keeping your enemies closer”?
We are watching tardfights. Sorry there is no 4d chess going on, there are only evil tards and slightly less evil tards.
Indeed. It is apparent any idiot can play this game.
why Guiliani? Because Trump apparently only knows like five people
That, and there’s very few people Trump can trust. This shit is playing out with a foreign country for a reason. Trump is only barely in charge of the executive branch of the country he’s President of. All of his quirks and possible criminality aside, everybody around him has an unusually high chance of being out to get him.
I was trying to say the same thing.
Outside of his family, Trump trusts nobody.
There’s a 50% chance that Giuliani is a Trojan horse. He’s shit the bed on live tv far too many times.
Ex-NYC mayor. Fits the profile.
This morning, a former senior White House official told me
How the hell would he know anything? I know pretty much nothing about what goes on at places I no longer work.
I thought this was a nice, no doubt unintentional, juxtaposition:
Hard to argue. You can be candid without being anonymous. It does take balls, though.
According to the New York Times (“All the news that’s fit to print” whether it is true or not) “Girls aren’t born with [redacted] shame — it’s something they’re taught.” Then they grow up to be women, and do things at work including but not limited to using an inconvenient bathroom and/or unhealthily quicken their outputting. Men are somehow to blame. Not sure if author is saying that this shame is limited to work or if focusing on work to limit scope and word count of this writing.
Warning: The New York Times
Warning: Very derpy derp
nytimes.com/2019/09/17/style/women-poop-at-work.html
Tough shit
Tougher for women at work than men at work?
Clearly. they have to use an inconvenient bathroom
I don’t know, this statement kinda sounds like Overkill.
circa 1983
“Girls aren’t born with [redacted] shame — it’s something they’re taught.”
Yeah, because we aren’t animals who walk around naked, shit wherever we happen to be, etc.
And it is the fault of men oppressing girls to grow up like that. — best guess of meaning of relevant part of the NYT item
In progworld girl’s shit doesn’t stink.
“Why Ivanka Trump’s New Haircut Should Make Us Very Afraid” by Arwa Mahdawi
Tonsurephobia = irrational fear of getting a haircut
Trichopathophobia = irrational fear of hair and/or scalp disease
Trichophobia = irrational fear of loose hairs and/or hair loss
Trumpotrichophobia or Trichotrumpophobia = irrational fear of Trump hair?
theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/sep/18/why-ivanka-trumps-new-haircut-should-make-us-very-afraid
Every fashion thing Michelle Obama did was daring and trailblazing. But anything Ivanka or Melania does is a scandal.
Michelle Obama was a horrible dresser. The colors she wore made her look like a cadaver. The no-sleeve look was not attractive. The cut and lines of the clothes she chose were all wrong for her.
Granted, it would be difficult to dress her, but get her a decent fashion maven and a tailor, and she could’ve looked a whole lot better than she did.
She has the grace of a mule.
Yes, that too. She has a very lumbering gait and could use some time pacing with a book on her head.
Now that you say that, it could be a facet in how difficult it is to dress her.
Ghilli suit for the win!
Mules are actually quite graceful and beautiful animals. Do not denigrate them by comparing them to a lummox like MO.
To be fair to the mavens and tailors of the world, not every package is easy to wrap:
https://outrageousminds.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/moochs-weewee1.jpg
Mercy!
Every decent drag queen in the world can do it. Why can’t she?
Meh. Lots of people are growers.
Just ask Shikha Dalmia. It wasn’t her worst article, but it was plainly awful.
Here is your blast from the past:
How Michelle Obama’s Fashion Power Conquered India’s Formidable Color Prejudice
Note: this is not a parody or fiction.
Nobody would look good in this.
But they both have execrable taste.
Ha ha ha ha. I thought you were being a little over the top, then I looked at the photos.
Obama looks like he’s pissed the artist (being charitable) didn’t paint in the little children handing him flower bouquets.
There’s is nothing wrong with that portrait. What about it bothers you, the lack of poorly placed word balloons?
OMG, you went there. OMG.
Stealing that, if you aren’t going to use it.
Sycophancy, TH. Sycophancy. Also, the obvious cult of personality.
Come on, Hyperbole, no one sits in a chair in the middle of a vine invasion or whatever is going on in that painting. It’s ridiculous.
And I, for one, cannot wait to see what a classy painting Trump chooses for himself
There’s is nothing wrong with that portrait. What about it bothers you, the lack of poorly placed word balloons?
Not sure if failed joke or something else?
Pretty sure I know the artist he’ll choose.
But he should choose this artist in this style. MAGA baby!

“Tulsi Gabbard is Anti-War, But Not Pro-Peace”
There are more warmongers that write at Reason than there are people who opposed the Iraq War and that’s just a fact.
They should call her Hate Click Dalmia because that’s the only reason I think they keep her around. I’ve never seen an article by her that had anywhere near even fifty percent agreement in the comments.
I think it’s a tie between Cathy Young and Shikha for the shittiest columnist there.
Here was lolbertarian Cathy Young after Trump said he wanted to pull out of Syria and reduce troop numbers in Afghanistan:

You can understand everything Shikha writes if you see it in the persepective of a Leftist, who hates Hindus.

the greatest thing about the Trump administration may be the complete emptying of the bag of dirty tricks
1) Justice Gorsuch
2) Damage to the deep state.
3) Kavanaugh, not for himself but better than anyone Clinton would have appointed
and, potentially
4) Appointment to replace RBG
5) The Hat and the Hair
6) Adventures of Secret Nazi President
7) CPRM’s series that I can’t remember the title of
The Hat & Hair – Animated or The Hat & Hair Super Funtime CARTOON SHOW
I think a lot of people got “red-pilled” over Kavanaugh. They didn’t become Trump supporters and they might not even like the guy but the largely made-up character assassination was too blatant.
President Donald J. Trump has been accused of hiring a lot of people who appear in front of the camera on Fox News Channel and Fox Business Channel. Chances that Judge Nap will be RedBlueGreen’s replacement?
Zero. Nap’s burned that bridge already.
Gorsuch is on the list he campaign promised to use. Kavanaugh is not.

Intelligence whistle-blower is revealed to be male CIA AGENT who worked at the White House as Donald Trump launches furious attack on his sources calling them ‘close to a spy’ and hinting at death penalty for ‘treason’
The Deep State and the Times are in cahoots!
I don’t understand Trump’s defense here. In the last two hours when has the NYT been wrong? How much longer is he going to hold a three year bullshit investigation that amounted to nothing other than the indictment of the former FBI director and a budding proxy war in Ukraine against the NYT? He acts like the Times would lie about something like Stalin having death camps.
Hug a journo, everyone. Dangerous times
That’s how one gets cooties.
Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire said during House testimony Thursday that he would protect the whistle-blower from any reprisals, and said his decision to come forward through channels was the ‘right thing to do.’
… why are we prosecuting Assange again? Can Snowden return to the U.S. too?
If you were to write a farce of this whole thing, it would be more believable than reality.
^ THIS
Trump should be impeached for attempting to prosecute Assange.
That I would get behind
Assange and Snowden embarrassed wrong people. Unlike this whistle-blower.
That’s exactly why Bradley/Chelsea Manning’s sentence got commuted.
What Deep State? There’s no Deep State. Ignore the CIA agent in the White House.
What happened to the whole “no domestic mandate for the CIA thing?”
I doubt the official assignment was to spy on the President.

Also, I’d like to apologize to anyone from TOS from pre-2014 or so, when I still had some respect for government.
Could it be that government in, say, Switzerland or Uruguay not evil?
Having lived in Uruguay, i can assure you the Government of Uruguay is evil. Just not in a world Conquest/imperialism kind of way.
More like a “hey, fascist war criminals you can totally hide out here” kind of way?
I thought that was Paraguay.
I know Uruguay (pronounced, according to Homer Simpson as “You Are Gay”) and Argentina had big German and Italian populations before the war and a lot of them move into those countries after the war. I don’t know much about Paraguay.

Vice did a bit on Neuva Germania. I can’t find it, but I found this NYT video on it.
Maybe a little strong. It’s not as Tyrannical as the US Government because it’s weak. It does step on it’s dick with economic idiocies (particularly in regards to pensions and retirements) but all in all it is still fairly weak that it can’t enforce it, and so widespread flouting of regulations does occur.
At this point, I would settle for small government with petty corruption. What we have is simply monstrous.
Certainly if i was going to go the Ex-Pat route, i would move back to Uruguay, but you’d have to have a solid means of income, because living off wages there would not be great.

“The manager started arguing with me. She wouldn’t let it go. I just kept telling her that it was my penis.”
I cant find the damned thing but SNL did a sketch where Will Ferrell was in a bar. His character was super nerdy and he got no attention from the women until he started playing a game of trivial pursuit and got the question “How long is the average penis” and he answers “I dunno. I guess mine is average so I am gonna guess…..like ten inches?”
Suddenly every woman in the bar is all over the guy.
The female manager just couldn’t let it go, huh? Imagine that.

TRUMP (July 2019 phone call): “I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike[.]”
Crowdstrike is important enough to President Donald J. Trump that he is asking for a favor.
AFAIK, ANTISTHENES was the first to post about Crowdstrike at glibertarians.com (March 30, 2017, 12:41 pm):
“I’m skeptical it even happened. Crowdstrike’s CTO is a member of the pro-globalist Atlantic Council (a Ukrainian, I think I read, so that’s another anti-Russia strike). It’s not exactly like the Democrats would be averse to planting evidence of an attack on their server that changes the conversation from ‘DNC are perpetrators of election shenanigans, according to emails leaked by whistleblowing insider’ to ‘DNC are victims of election shenanigans by evil foreign power’. And thanks to Wikileaks, we know that not only is such evidence-planting possible, but that private US-affiliated contractors have gained that capability. Is Crowdstrike part of that list, I wonder?
As a secondary benefit, it helped to make Trump the scapegoat for their own party’s/candidate’s sins of corruption, particularly pro-Russian corruption. They may have also believed it would be an adequate fig leaf for the Clinton administration to justify not investigating the Obama administration’s misuse of intelligence to spy on an opposition campaign.”

Sort of. The new club has an automatic thrower that has a foot switch so it can be operated by one person, and it does throw away from you. However, I was within 2 yards of the thrower, so it was massively cheating (25/25). It was only afteward that I realized there was probably 25′ of cord available — though the way it’s set up, I’d be to the right of the box, not behind.

I reiterate my argument from the morning links, and now add that basically Trump is going to get impeached for doing more or less what Clinton did?
Where’s James Comey when his country needs him? The FBI needs to start granting preemptive and retroactive immunity to everybody involved and start writing letters to Congress about what “no reasonable prosecutor” would do.
Clinton’s charge was perjury, right?
Hillary, not Bill. Trump is accused of using the powers of his office to obtain personal and political benefits, and of hiding evidence of his actions by storing data on a separate, unofficial computer system.
Coyote chasing 5-yr-old was like ‘watching horror movie’
And you nerds are worried about vaping.
A hypothesis I heard today is that Pelosi flipped so quickly on impeachment because Trump is trying to get the DNC servers for the Barr investigation.
I’ve heard that, because the transcripts show that he kept asking about Cloud Strike, which is the only group who examined the DNC server and determined that it was hacked by the Russians.
I would say that there is a real possibility that CrowdStrike kept copies of those servers. Why not?
That would be a stellar development.
CDC says vaping lung cases surge 52% in the last week to 805 with at least 12 deaths
I’m so scared.
I thought they’d narrowed it down to some kind of THC cartridges with a particular kind of vitamin E ingredient.
CNBC is regurgitating the exact same line the CDC has been pushing for weeks – “we don’t know!”
How hard is it to throw together a spreadsheet with a list of all cases and the detailed causes for each? Apparently, harder than continuing to spin a bunch of FUD.
Come now, there’s a bunch more banning that needs to be done before the actual cause is revealed.
Yep. This is exactly why they are stonewalling.
For purposes of the totalitarian ratchet, it can be both. The US Postal Service banned mailing small packages from mailboxes because a passenger aircraft that officially went down due to a confluence of problems rather than sabotage was blown up by a bomb in the postage it was carrying.
USPS used as an excuse to limit freedom and increase inconvenience an alleged bomb on one aircraft that was absent from the NTSB version of what happened to said aircraft.
Even if it turns out to be THC+E+vaping -> problem X, that does not mean that this will stop the narrative of banning all vaping because of problem X.
“We have no way to control these black market vaping cartridges. So we must ban all vaping products, in the name of public safety.”
People keep committing crimes no matter how many things we ban. We must get rid of people.

I do: do not, under any circumstances, agree to be “interviewed” by anyone, ever.
That’s an interesting take would you care to talk on the record about that?
TROLL! TROLL! TROLL!
Wise move. Same here. I have been approached a few times. In every case I could see a big pile ripe for stepping in and responded with “See those guys over there? Thats who you want to talk to. I have nothing to say.”
The world was a better place when everybody had Internet access but nobody took what happened on the Internet that seriously.

There’s even pumpkin syrup!
Kilmeade’s just not a smart man, maybe the dumbest guy at Fox News which is saying a lot.

God I hope this article is parody, because it is pretty insane
Whut? I looks like a fairly modest proposal to me. Common sense really.
God damn. That’s funny!
That dude is a wonderful writer of satire.

@ComicDaveSmith
The last three presidents slaughtered hundreds of thousands if not millions of innocent people. They illegally spied on all US citizens. They bankrupted the greatest nation in the history of the world. None of this led to impeachment. But this phone call is the real scandal.
This Tweet is a Rorsbach Test. You should not be surprised to learn that the LP chairman (a man who said you should vote for Dick Cheney if he was running in the LP) failed it.
Nicholas Sarwark
@nsarwark
“But what about the other Presidents?”
Carry that water.
Was there a President in between Bush and Obama that I forgot about?
Bill Clinton was a shithead but he got to be President at a fairly peaceful time. His primary foreign policy blunders were fucking up the endgame in Somalia and sticking our dick in Serbia, but compared to Iraq and Afghanistan that was a stunning success.
Who do you think he means when he says “the last three presidents”?
Ah, I figured he meant before the current one. I guess he’s including DJT in the mix.
Yup. That’s why it’s a Rorsbach Test.
TDS sufferers, like Mr. Sarwark, assume that he is saying “the other presidents are worse” when he is actually making the correct point that this is a farce.
Also, he (well the pre-Bush GOP congress) almost balanced the budget (a feat nobody has even attempted since) and comparatively did a lot less spying.
The Cold War had just ended so they chopped the military in half (literally). Then they got down to work finding ways to waste all that money on other crap. Purely a coincidence that Bubba was President at that moment in history. Democracy is organized vote-buying.
Fair point. Tax revenue nearly doubled during Clinton’s time in office. While balancing the budget did show some restraint, it still allowed for a whole lot of room to spend.
Bush invaded countries in the name of the drug war. The Bush administration also began the First Gulf War.
Every single president since FDR (with the exception of Ford) has expanded the number of foreign interventions that they inherited, except one. Guess who
Truman?
Hah!
Nope. Korea
And French Indochina (aka Vietnam). Truman was an anti-communist and a lot of places were going communist after WW2.
I was gonna say Carter but apparently he’s the reason we got involved in Afghanistan the first time.
Technically, Carter did invade Iran but kinda limp-dicked it out right away.
His non-handling of Iran and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan pretty much set the stage for the shitstorm that followed. Maybe the Wahabists would have brought it on anyway but he didn’t do anything to help.
Eisenhower!
Kosovo says “Hi!”
oh, you mentioned Serbia. I oop.
And I only just now got that out of my head.
Thanks for nuthin.
Was Bosnia part of Serbia? Because if not you can add that as another Clinton intervention.
Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia roughly made up the conglomerate of Yugoslavia.
Then you had the whole Kosovo debacle added in
Don’t forget Herzegovina!
You left out Montenegro, probably because you hate blacks.
Also, how lame is it when you finally get your war resolved and they hold the peace accords, not in Paris or Geneva, but in Dayton, Ohio? Seriously? Dayton?
Kosovo is an interesting case. A closer analogue would be if the U.S. left Iraq shortly after the end of major combat operations but then came back to help Kurdistan achieve independence. We’d be protecting a people who generally don’t hate us from others who hate them.
In any case, it may be worth mentioning separately from the larger Serbia conflict but it didn’t turn out like Afghanistan or Iraq.
No it would be more like if we invaded Kurdistan at the behest of ISIS. Destroying people who generally supported us to help establish a new nation that had no historical validity for people dedicated to our destruction. Fuck Kosovo.
But the plucky Kosovars are the toast of the town in the current Euro qualifiers! The new Icelanders, you might say. They’re just missing a clever supporters’ clap.
The last three presidents slaughtered hundreds of thousands if not millions of innocent people.
Hard to get a decent number, but it looks like total civilian deaths in Afghanistan are around 100,00, with the (vast?) majority likely not killed by us. The Iraq war is even worse, with estimates all over the place. I doubt the total number of civilians in both wars killed by US troops is even close to 100,000. If you include our allies, I expect the number would be much higher. I would guess total civilian deaths caused by the US and its allies is barely 100,000.
They were stupid wars, yes, and illegal wars, certainly, but lets not pretend they were all that big or deadly, in the scheme of wars in the last 100 years.
Your assumption is that we are only at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. But, you fail to account for our drone wars in Pakistan or our clandestine wars in Syria and parts of Africa. To name but a few
Fair enough, but I doubt the body count of civilians killed by US drones in Pakistan is going to move the numbers all that much.
Body count by US troops in Syria and Africa, even less so. Now, if you put civilians killed by our allies on our ledger, who knows. Syria was going to have a hell of a body count regardless of our involvement, and I imagine Africa is the same.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a no foreign entanglements guy. I see little reason to have any US troops overseas, with the possible exception of a few big Navy bases and maybe Air Force bases. Hysterical overstatement doesn’t help with changing our current ridiculously extended deployments, though.
Fair enough l, but I think you missed the point of the Tweet
If it was “Holy shit, all the bad stuff Presidents do, and you want to impeach for this?”, I think I got it.
But killing hundreds of thousands or millions of civilians is not one of the bad things recent Presidents have done.
We invaded Iraq and then occupied it and created, trained and armed ‘native’ forces. I don’t see how you can argue that only people killed directly by US troops are on our head.
Sex, lies and legal consent: Can deceit turn sex into rape?
A terrifying article.
I’m sure they’re going to prosecute the cases where the roles are flipped
I’m willing to bet there are a hell of a lot more women who lie about being on the pill than men who lie about having a vasectomy.
That’s different! Btw, here’s the garnishment on your paycheck for child support with fees, regardless of your willingness to pay it directly.
If we get sex via lies reclassified as rape, and thus a crime, would women who lie about being on the pill be able to collect child support? Wouldn’t that be profiting from a crime, which is generally not allowed?
Who am I kidding. Of course they will, because its for the children. The fact that a victim of the crime is required by law to make payments to the perpetrator is just that male privilege in action, I guess.
There is a romance novel that is virulently hated in romancelandia for female-on-male rape/sperm stealing. I really like this author, and while I am not woke, nor SJW, I will admit that at the time (~1997), I did have a real problem with it.
Maybe Sally should only sleep with people that she knows well and can trust. I know that’s taboo to say, but we can’t start locking people away for lying about themselves in order to have sex.

“The Seething Stand-Up Underground That Gave Rise to Shane Gillis”
FTA:
“If you were in New York City during the fourth weekend of June and had a hankering for the comedy stylings of Shane Gillis, you could’ve found him at Skankfest. An outgrowth of the Legion of Skanks podcast hosted by comics Luis J. Gomez, Dave Smith, and Big Jay Oakerson, Skankfest was a three-day festival featuring dozens of stalwarts of the New York club scene, drawing fans from across the country to a weekend of comedy and debauchery in Greenpoint’s Brooklyn Bazaar. (The Stand, in Manhattan, also hosted programming.) Presuming you bought a pass in time—they sold out more than a month in advance—you could have had the privilege of witnessing Ari Shaffir tear down his pants and play his genitals like a puppet as a panel of comics dared Gomez to fellate him.”
tl/dr: All problematic comedy has been declared “conservative comedy”. Only Hannah Gadsby is now true comedy. Legion of Skanks is problematic
It’s so funny they keep referring to those guys at alt right or conservative.
Admit it. You subscribe to Gas Digital to “own the libs”
I just want one conservative-minded person to watch Big Jay’s set on Netflix, or Joe Diaz’ set for that matter. Good, wholesome, conservative humor.
I do think there is a strain of thought, that can in some sense be called conservative, that has formed around the notion that the 1970s-2000s understanding of sex was right, and that the the new woke ideas about sex of the 2010s are a step in the wrong direction. However, it is a bit off base to lump this in with the people who think that sexual mores were too loose in that timeframe.
A step in the New Puritan direction.
Try to get Nancy Friday’s My Secret Garden, which talked a great deal about rape fantasies, published now.
I guess Kinsey got forgotten too?
Kinsey will linger on like Margaret Sanger.
Kinsey deserves to be forgotten. Making shit up is not science.

The perfect comment for your avatar.
A step in the New Puritan direction.
I’m not sure I’d call it Puritanism in any form. It seems mostly a pull-back from sexual libertinism in ways that punish straight men. Punitive, rather than Puritan.
That’s reading too much into it. It’s a byproduct of typical prog black-and-white either you’re with us or you’re against us.
Anything that doesn’t pledge fealty to the Progressive Woke Program en toto is by definition Alt-Right.
Yep. Also, that article doesn’t mention one lady comedian. Ladies aren’t even adored by the conservative alt right comedy movement!

I find that the biggest majority (of Labradoodles) are either crazy or have a hereditary problem
Happens to every breed that gets stylish.
The sad thing I see in this is presenting the problem as labradoodles when the problem is clearly bad and/or negligent breeders. Those who breed carelessly, don’t track pedigree and health, who don’t establish a standard, no matter how minimal, are the problem here. It can happen in any breed or hybrid.
My wife hates grooming them but not the money. People get them and dont actaully maintain them. Usually requires a dematting fee.
Well, the full list for Virginia Film Festival is out and I am thoroughly underwhelmed. While there are screenings for “Jojo Rabbit” and “Parasite” (by Bong Joon Ho) – I see no reason to tie my weekend schedule around crappy seating in a university theater to catch flicks that the programming director at our Alamo theater has already assured me will have an actual run at their theater. (and again…really weird to see why the film festival would screen “Dr. Caligari” 3 weeks after the Alamo has their special screening….)
There’s a French animated flick that could be decent and the Italian “Traitor” flick looks interesting…but aside from that the only thing I care about is the screening of “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” with Q&A with Ethan Hawke. (my review) – that’s a tight flick I’d love to see on the big screen.
That was embarrassing.

“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” is getting great reviews, plus their showing “Breaking Away!”
I’ve probably seen some discussion of it online, but not the kind of thing I’m into. I guess that’s what happens when you’re at a university type festival vs a genre-heavy on like Pusan or Toronto 🙁
Still….3 movies for the weekend will keep me pretty busy.
Motherless Brooklyn looks bad. I have no idea why anyone would screen Field of Dreams.
I had to jog my memory of having read that. I must not have liked it because I forgot all about it.
^This. But it resonated with someone, somewhere, who was able to get it greenlighted.
“Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead” is one of Lumet’s best, which is saying something.

Ugh. I had to talk to my on the spectrum son about climate change last night after he said he didn’t want to die .
“Son, the people peddling this are bad people. They do bad things. They should feel bad. They lie. They think its fun to cause other people to suffer and be afraid. Just ignore them.”
Fighting the indoctrination of children is a daily battle. I have not heard my “OTSS” mention climate change, but this week he asked me if I was going to buy an assault rifle like “they” use in school shootings. *sigh*
Sea levels could rise up to 3 feet by the end of the century.
A rise of a millimeter qualifies, so its possible that they have made one prediction that won’t be falsified.

Good, although I largely agree with the rest of what he said. I wonder if he picked that particular issue to try to get the left to pressure the Dems into dropping this nonsense or whether it really is an issue that’s near and dear to his heart.
I noticed that, but he sure hit all the points, including Biden,

Any American Glibs planning on recording and/or watching tonight Carol’s Second Act, Evil, The Good Place, Superstore, Sunnyside, and/or Young Sheldon?
What are those?
Nah, I just got complete runs of My Sister Sam, 2 Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, and To The Manor Born; I’ll be binge watching those at work.
That was a good one.
Is ‘To the Manor Born’ “just like leaving home in ’39?”
Yes.
I like The Good Place, but I am so detrained at watching scheduled TV, I’ll only remember to tune in at 9:29PM and say “Fork it, it’ll be on Netflix next year.”
Maybe ask Janet, Siri, etc. to remind you with a sufficient safety margin before it starts. If sufficiently paranoid, the reminder does not have to include the phrase “The Good Place.”
I also don’t commercials.
Young Sheldon and The Good Place for me.
Add Superstore and possibly Evil for Mr. Mojeaux.
Holy shit, you’re a Russian spy. No American would earnestly ask another American if they were going to watch “Young Sheldon”.

Moynihan: Hands down. Easily
Welch: And they never punch down either, so you can still be funny without actually being funny
Kmele: Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you two?
Imma watch football!
Not sure why, but I’ve found I quickly tire of even sitcoms that I like – at least live action ones. Current fave is Bob’s Burgers. They’re effin’ weird, but there’s an underlying affection among them that I don’t detect in other similar shows.
Best cartoon family – maybe best sitcom family – of all time: The Oblongs. Fight me.
Watch the Packers and then go race a sailboat. Finish it up with a post race crew BBQ.
You’re going to barbecue the crew?
They’re all pretty lean and stringy. I think a long braise would probably be a better way to go.
Oblongs! Fist bump!
Ditto. That was a really good one.

Apropos of nothing at all – Wild Turkey 101 is the best mixing Bourbon. It hits that perfect sweet spot of price, taste, and potency.
I’m a fan of Larceny for mixing. And it can be sipped neat.
I like to sip bourbon/whiskey. Jameson when I’m feeling well. Rotgut well when I want to earn it.
I like White Tail for mixing in tea with some lemon and honey.

Bazing. Winner winner chicken dinner.
I dunno about this one. Photoshopping in starving kids while she eats lunch? She’s an annoying scold but she doesn’t need to feel shame for eating lunch
She tries to shame the rest of us about living in civilization, so she can bloody well get some shaming herself.
Fine, but it is shaming her for eating lunch. The unedited picture was making an idiotic point about her eating from plastic containers, which was silly but at least honest. This could be done to literally everyone. Shame people for bad things they do, not for existing.
She shames and degrades the rest of us and I’m fine with her getting some back. By the way, if she and the rest of her gang get their way there will be a hell of a lot more starving kids. To blazes with the lot of them.
So if someone is advocating something you dislike anything is fair game? This is how you get antifa. I don’t buy that line of reasoning.
Quit making me agree with you!
There is a big difference between (A) photoshopping a picture to make a point about somebody you disagree with and (B) bashing somebody’s head with a bike lock because you disagree with them. And agreeing with (A) does not mean ever becoming antifa, which is (B).
It is the natural end for the policy she stood before the UN to advocate. You kill off the modern economy then those on the edges of it, overwhelmingly Africans and Asians, will die of disease and starvation. The Swedes will not. She may not have the bananas in the picture, but she will be eating while others starve.
TBH, I don’t like it either. In either version. This gotcha! crap is getting to be too much.
Nothing wrong using satire pointing out someone’s hypocrisy.

Its all black and white to them. OMG it’s sexual assault!… No, nor was it ‘ok’. It was obnoxious, a misdemeanor at worst, but one can recognize that this is not acceptable behavior without babbling about ‘powerless’ and sexual assault. It deserves a slap, maybe a pop in the nose, no more,

I don’t really get your take on Dark Matter….
The experiment was to measure the mass of the neutrino. One possible explanation for dark matter was neutrinos. Very few people thought neutrinos would fit the bill for dark matter, but it was on the list as “conventional particle that we know exists and is weakly interactive”.
This experiment further reduced the likelihood that neutrinos were the source of dark matter.
But dark matter is not a theoretical artifact of calculations. There have been loads of observations that lead to the conclusion that there must be some “missing mass” that can’t be seen except through its gravitational effects. This includes the rotation of galaxies, gravitational lensing (which matches the rotation of galaxies observation)… they have even observed that dark matter is more weakly interactive even with itself than regular matter – using gravitational lensing to measure the mass of two colliding galaxies…. the dark matter went whizzing right through and out the other side, but the stars, gas and dust slowed down and stayed closer together… so they found dark matter that was outside of the galaxies.
Maybe you were thinking of dark energy? That is based on observations of past expansion of the universe, which suggest that expansion is speeding up… which would require some source of extra energy.
But neither of these was predicted. They were both the result of observations and attempts to explain those observations.
IRT dark matter, NotAdahn suggested space-time from PBS on YouTube. Outstanding series for people interested in this kind of stuff.
