Swallowswell farted, Swallowswell farted. It just doesn’t get old.
Slim pickin’s today. I’m okay with that.
I’m sure they will have a lovely Thanksgiving.
I may have to pick this one up.
Hardly an arsenal, but he seems nice.
Lovely.
Arsenal seems such a low bar these days
If that’s an arsenal, I’m capable of arming a small, third world country.
And you have the orphans to man it too.
That is until it was all lost in a boating accident right?
Thank you for dredging up that painful memory.
if thats an arsenal, then the Glibs are an armory
We’re a got-damned SPACE ARMADA! Ready to lay waste to any planet that would interfere with our dreams of freedom!
Or mebbe I’m already partially drunk. Whatever.
The orphans too?
I was hoping for this Arsenal.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenal_ship
I liked the proposal to use a 747 to carry up to 100 agm-86 cruise missiles.
We’re working on some kick ass “don’t tread on me” level weapon systems even now…
I love your avatars. You have such a pleasant smile.
Why, thank you, Spud. That is a very specific and lovely compliment.
She has beautiful eyes, too.
/yes, I actually mean her eyes
I remember when Penn and Teller pointed out that in American English all plural nouns refer to boobs.
Oh, go back to your beer cans.
Neph, do you store your beer in jugs?
Rhywun: Do you mean growlers (64 oz. glass bottles)? Generally, no. I’ll grab a growler (or two) if I’m going to a brewery that doesn’t bottle/can. If you’re talking homebrew, it goes from carboy/bucket (6 gallon size) into a keg.
For Neph.
MikeS: I figured for Rhywun, I should be the straight man.
Ha! Yes, I guess so. haha.
Nice save, Neph.
I contemplated writing in a disclaimer in the original post, but figured that would kill the joke deader then Epstein.
Ready to be used against any pesky libertarians that object to the coming utopia no doubt.
That’s so sad.
It’s not even a nice arsenal. That’s kid stuff around these parts.
Man, that’s some arsenal, looks like a teenager’s pick up on a Saturday morning.
“Graff, 41, was charged Friday with possession of a shotgun”
Ummmmm… how is the a crime (outside of CA, NY and Chicago that is)?
Gonna guess the sawn off one in the middle.
That’s what happens with journalists are idiots. “Short-barreled” is probably right there in the police report, but they don’t give a shit about accuracy.
That “hero” doctor story is just weird. Couldn’t they figure out some other way to “drain” or vacuum the dude?
Why not just hook him up to the airplane toilet and keep flushing?
Or better yet break open a window and have the depressurization do the work.
I imagine getting sucked out of a plane dick first would not be a pleasant way to go.
Reminds me of the rattlesnake joke punchline: “The doctor says you’re going to die”
What orifice connects to his bladder that they could have sucked on?
Man, tough crowd. He sounds like a hero to me. The odd nature of what he had to do to save that guy’s life – and I don’t have the medical knowledge to second-guess it – doesn’t change that. Assuming the old guy was really in danger.
I’m with Rhywun. The old man needed help. The cabin crew asked for a doctor. It’s not like hero doc was on board looking to perv on old men. Hero doc then does a MacGyver in order to suction the bladder. Yes, he is a hero.
Hate week has begun. Fuck ❌ichigan.
Heh… I just explained to the girlfriend we may have to go to a sports bar next Saturday. tOSU is pretty damned big up in Cleveland as well (I mean, for the past decade or so, what other football could we root for?).
Sadly, the Harbaughs kicked their ass.
This is just unhealthy.
Remember him! No, it is an instruction, not a question!
Fuck you for bringing that sonofabitch up. Fuuuuuck yooooooooooouuuuu!!!!
After cleaning the beer lines, I pulled a pint of the porter. It was unfortunately undercarbed, so I upped to CO2 level, and I’ll need to pull a pint on Monday and check how it (and the cream ale) are. Thankfully, if they’re still undercarbed at that point (unlikely), I can burst carb it to finish it up, with the minor risk of overcarbing the beers.
What are you using for your beeramisu?
The local store didn’t have the Arabicadabra, but they did have the Harpoon/Dunkin’ Coffee Porter, so I picked up a sixer of that to use (assuming the beer tastes good when I try it later tonight after it chills). If the flavor doesn’t work, I’ll stop at a store on the way home from work on Monday and grab the Bells beer.
Be careful, too much CO2 will cause it to burn up.
Don’t worry, it’s all being contained in a stainless steel system to sequester it from the environment.
Oh for God’s sake leave the poor guy alone if he wants to live in a hole in the ground. Not everyone fits in our fucked up world.
Yeah, maybe he should go downtown and live on a sidewalk and shit in the street instead.
Dignity!
SF style.
This crap really gets to me. There are legitimately people who cannot function in a hyper regimented world and some of them actually have something to offer if you let them. Why is it ok to believe you are a woman when you are demonstrably a man, but not ok to need to avoid interacting with the evil bastards that run government and businesses?
I bet a lot of the original settlers and mountain men were like that.
Probably most of them, and some of them were very admirable people. Tell me some schlub happily beavering away at his 9-5 for a fortune 500 or a bureaucracy is more worthwhile than Kit Carson.
The founding ideas of the US were doomed when the frontier was closed.
I’ve never thought of it like that, but I’d say you are correct.
Kit Carson had his skills but overall was a better publicist than a Mountain Man.
Men starting with John Colter and followed by the likes of Jim Bridger, Jedediah Smith, Old Bill Williams, Bill Sublette, Manual Lisa, Joseph Walker and others less known were the kings of the Rockies.
If there would be two times and place of American history I would love to travel back in time to visit they would be:
1) The Constitutional Convention to explain to James Madison he needed to simplify the language in the proposed Bill of Rights. That, believe it or not, the language he was using would be too ambiguous. That later judges would not be able to follow what they were writing. He should write more simple and emphatic. e.g. The 2A “The right of the People to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed by any government entity or by any method.” If he was of good humor I would joke with him starting the BoR with “Listen Motherfuckers this is serious and if you don’t want to conduct strength tests of ropes with your necks believe the following:” Of course James wasn’t known for his sense of humor.
2) Live as a free trapper in the Rockies during the first 1/3 of the Rocky Mountain Trapper period. I might die, but to see that landscape, at that time, would be fantastic.
I’d have loved to have been a hunter on the Lewis and Clark expedition
That’s a good shortlist.
Hi should have moved to Slab City, lots of underground bunkers there,
Places like that are important. I manage to deal with my crushing sense of not fitting in with and disapproval of the modern world, but I viscerally understand the desire to completely disengage from it. People less able to cope need a place to go. Just think about all the hoops you jump through to comply with the requirements and expectations of our society. Then think about what happens to you if you can’t.
I read the article and didn’t see one thing that was worth bothering him for.
He didn’t do as he was expected to do! Get a job, pay your taxes, borrow several years income to buy a house, get married, obey the rules!
I want to be stereotyped. Those who fight the system in the modern day just get stuck in the criminal classes. I still remember talking to a couple I met at Camp Anarchy in spring who were homeless the year before they made it to the show. They lived in Boston, and were making their money as drug dealers. They went to Camp Anarchy as an anniversary present to them getting an apartment together.
Nice. Keep fucking with him, that’ll teach him a lesson. I’m guessing his real crime is going to be something like “tax evasion”.
I just hope it wasn’t CPRM.
Okay, I larfed.

2 and 20.
Im sorry, but I stopped at “HOT97”
It’s always fun to watch the various American warlords get jealous when one gets more attention than the other. INDOPACOM getting too much attention? CENTCOM gets jealous and starts talking about attacks. So cute.
If that’s an arsenal then my circle of peers and I are entire armories unto ourselves. That’s nothing.
where’s your head?
Don’t know where the avatar I had saved went off to.
Well Howdy anyway, long time on see,
Thanks. I’ve been reading articles when I get some free time, just been traveling a lot.
If one person gets away with it, other people might get ideas.
This reply is out of place.
I like it when they call a couple hundred rounds of ammo a “cache”.
I like it when they call a couple hundred rounds of ammo a “cache”.
Yeah. I used to call it “a light Tuesday at the range.”
Pretty much this.
In the summer, I was going through 500+ rounds of ammunition a week. Now that I’m doing organized sports, my ammo consumption has actually gone way down. Shooting solo takes me 30 minutes to go through 100 rounds. IDPA practice takes me 2 hours to go through 60-75.
Well, that “David Koresh is building a small army and we have to go kick over the hornet’s best to self-fulfill our prophecy” narrative worked out so well in Waco…
An absolute cluster fuck. One that also got 163 people killed when McVay went postal.
Yup. As an Okie I followed closely.
Waco: April 19, 1993.
OKC bombing by McVeigh: April 19, 2005.
The connection was not lost on me. I heard the explosion from many miles away and thought—“Huh—a sonic boom. They usually don’t go supersonic over non-military areas.
Then I went to electromagnetic field theory class and the professor told us what happened and that class was cancelled. The guy who was sitting next to me in class found out a few hours later that his dad was killed in the bombing.
I’m certainly not saying McVeigh was justified in what he did— he is an evil SOB rotting in hell—but why borrow trouble?
Koresh was nuts, but was he actually dangerous?
1995 of course, not 2005.
Unreconstructed and I were at OU at that time.
Remember all the amputees and scarred young’uns who started showing up at college a few years later?
Sad and lovely at the same time. The late great T. Boone Pickens gave all the injured and orphaned free ride scholarships.
(I was at Ok State, but I assume OU had a similar program)
It was a shit show all the way around, but I think McVeigh was a ticking time bomb, looking for an excuse.
McVeigh was a godsend for the Government. Waco and Ruby Ridge had normal people very uneasy about what the hell the Feds considered themselves entitled to do to people. Dead Kids and Moms shot holding babies are bad optics. Then McVeigh went and blew up a bunch of kids.
Speaking of arsenals…
I just got back from setting up tomorrow’s multigun match. I don’t own a PCC (yet) and my 5.56 rifle is NY-legal via a fixed magazine which makes reloads completely impractical for this sort of thing. So, I’ll be running a 9mm race pistol and a semi-auto hunting shotgun. Looking at the stages, I thought this would be fine, maybe even optimal. I now know that’s not going to be true.
I know nothing about stage 1, since it got set up while I as working on the other ones.
Stage 2 is MUCH longer range than I thought it was going to be. T2 is at 15 yards, which means my time is going to suck since it’s being accuracy scored.
Stage 3on the otehr hand is at near-touch range. It’s also using speed scoring so as long as you have a) shot the required number of shots in the general direction of each target and b) gotten at lest one kill shot on each target, there is no penalty for inaccuracy. So it’s basically going to be all John Wick up in there. The only wrinkle on the second half of the course is that center shooting position can only see the plate rack. The two sides can see 60% of the plate rack, so I should be able to take it with one reload of the shotgun, which is good because I suck as speed loading shotguns.
Question: Do those links work? I don’t know if they’re firewalled for everyone else.
Yes, the links work fine. All this reminds me is that it’s been a very long time since I’ve been to a range. I wasn’t half bad standing still, if I do say so myself, but I suspect I’d suck at stages like these, especially as out of practice as I am.
Can you get a “featureless” rifle?
Yes.
I’m strongly considering this one (in the “Hunter” variant) which would be NY legal. ONLY the Hunter variant would be however.
Also, a Mini-14 would work, but those are oddly expensive.
RDB is a good shooter, but I’d fork out the extra for a Mini-14. That would be my SHTF gun in a second.
Your autocorrect fucked up “AK”.
I don’t know of any NY legal AK variants.
I’ve had two Mini-14s and both had issues. Broke a lug off the bolt on one and the other has extraction issues.
I know farts, and that was a fart.

Oh, absolutely.
There were some Birthers among the Tea Party, they opposed the Lightbringer’s own stimulus (ARRA), and they were opposing Obamacare (PPACA). That’s one count of cryptoracism and two counts of racism by proxy.

#collapsitarianism
It’s going to keep getting worse until it starts to impact the economic competitiveness of the country, then it’ll all collapse spectacularly.
I’d say it already impacts it; we just had such an enormous head start it’s going to take a while for China to overtake us.
We collapse so does China.
So does the rest of the world economy. I’d say that’s a feature not a bug to the InterSocs.
I like the train analogy. Each additional regulation/tax/post-modern social experiment adds a bit more weight to the train as we chug along. At some point, the engine just can’t carry the load. The economy will work until it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t, it’ll implode in spectacular fashion.
Ok, Boomer.

“But unless we determine to take action,” said the old man…”then we shall all be destroyed; we shall all die. Surely we care about that?”
“Not enough to want to get killed over it,” said Ford.
How about some good news?
Boy, 5, thrown from Mall of America balcony is ‘walking perfectly,’ family says
In a more civilized time, Aranda would have involuntarily leapt to his own death prior to cops arriving, the suicide being corroborated by a number of large men found loitering around the place where he jumped

I’ve given up for the most part and just use webmail.
I still hate that people think a web interface is a good replacement for a dedicated application. Give me back my keyboard shortcuts!
Especially considering how often webmail seems to quote entire fucking emails for people to post a one-line reply on top, leading to long strings of quoted material ten or more messages deep.
And then there’s Google’s mailing list interface that just quotes the last post in a thread, so you could be responding to something somebody else said but it’ll quote the last message out of context. Google along with state AGs really fucked over Usenet.

thicc! excellent! our song is The Way,
They can see the road that they’re traveling is paved in gold…
First FAstball song i heard.
I first heard that song in the cab of a combine in Oklahoma….possibly Kansas. It’s a good little ditty.
How far will you go down a road that’s paved with gold but takes away your soul?
It’s funny to me that I prefer music that is way before my time, but Fastball is a band that makes me feel old.
And the video segued into Blues Traveler. *GAG*
I hate Blues Traveler more than Steely Dan. Maybe even more than Rush.
Maybe this will help.
Unrelated Royal Crown Revue is going to be at Viva this year, together again! I doubt Eddie will still be able to do the splits though.
Why you wanna give me a run-around?
You’re talking about Blues Traveler?
I can’t believe my eyes, just like a game show contestant with a parting gift.
You may have just sent me down a rabbit hole, Neph. Good stuff.
MikeS:
I try… I try.
If you get the chance, the Rev is a great band to see live. Hell, I learned about the Goddamn Gallows because of them. The Rev had a death in the family and rescheduled their show. The openers still played, and there were different openers at the make up show. I’ve yet to hear a bad word about the Rev from anyone in the music or venue business (queue up someone telling a story one way or another).

I asked Mrs. T what the name of the band that I hate more than BT. She couldn’t remember. But I shouldn’t expect her to. She drove me to dinner last night and I had to listen to Katy Perry. She kept having to skip until I stopped bitching.
Katy Perry has nice jugs.
Sweater puppies.
That does not explain why she would listen to her “music”.
https://archive.li/C4vWF/7099e6ef9efff5173b49654f4af070fe59b1a226.jpg
My goodness, she has beautiful eyes.
/again, I actually mean eyes
When my sister and I were early teens, we painted and made paperdolls of various celebs. We were actually quite good at it.
Before Katy got all Woke I really wanted to make a paperdoll of her and her wonderful costumes.
Still might someday. With a Left Shark to complement the set.
Fine. She’s lovely. Her “music” sucks.
So I googled shitty white blues bands.
Number 1
That list… wow…
Yeah, that list is bullshit. I was just hoping for a name. DMB.
Overall a good list. #9 should be #1, but otherwise I can’t complain a whole lot.
TARDIS: The fact Rush is on that list shows how wrong it is.
Can we at least agree that Dave Matthews and Blues Traveler are steaming piles of shit?
Yes.
And Rush.
So Katy Perry > Rush? Think carefully about your answer.
She’s so bad she wasn’t even considered for the list
/never heard a single Katy Perry song…I think
I think I’ve seen Blues Travelers live once. In fairness, I was doing a lot of pot at that time, and someone else had paid for the show and was driving us there.
I never saw Rush live, and I consider that a way that I’ve failed.
Nice…
All this hermit talk reminded me of Claude Dallas so I figured I’d post a link for any Glibs who might not have heard of him.

There was a book written about him called “Give a Boy a Gun” that is very good but out of print last I checked. Still easy to pick up used I’d bet.

Whats up Oregon? You aren’t going to get past Alabama playing like this….
Rode my bike to get some groceries. I’m waiting at a red light and a cop on a bicycle stops me. Friendly enough guy, but then he asks if I have ID. Hand over my card, he calls it in and then checks to the bike’s reg to see if it’s stolen. Nope. Have a nice day. One the way back, a different cop and the same fucking thing happens. “You’re buddy just checked me. Do I look suspicious or something?” “Oh, no, no. There was a report of a foreigner causing problems in the neighborhood.” “Really? Do I look like that foreigner?”
They’ll also randomly stop and check Japanese people’s regs, but they never make them show ID. Hadn’t happened in a while, but over the last few months it’s happened 4 or 5 times. Dickheads.
We all look the same to them.

I started getting nostalgic about the young Hayeksplosives paperdoll making. I used to be artistic.
Here are a couple I just dug up and photographed a minute ago.
https://imgur.com/a/P43IpZe
Ahh, given where we are I misread that…
I’m the opposite of autistic but I understand them. I think 3/4 of my engineering staff are somewhere on spectrum so I adapt and meet them where they are.
It’s a hard row to ho for those of us who are autistic and artistic.
I thought hos were easy.
Missing out on a pun chance, that’s -10 Glib points.
I don’t understand the opposite of autistic. Can you explain?
I’m a total extravert and empath. I get energy from interacting with other humans rather than needing to go home and be alone after a gathering, which is typical of introverts and autistic folks.
I see everything from others’ perspective and perceive what they need and thus do what I can to make their lives and jobs easier, without them even knowing.
So while autistic folks are often brilliant at a particular skill, in my experience, that is coupled for them with heightened senses (sound, light, touch, people) that they find overwhelming.
I wallow and rejoice in all that stimulation so that is “opposite” to me.
So, you’re a sociopath.
No, because I am truly an empath. I care deeply about everyone, even my frenemies.
Sociopaths know how to turn the knobs but it’s not to the benefit of others.
Unless benefiting others benefits them..
That sounds exhausting.
I’m probably in the middle somewhere. I can be very gregarious when I need/want to be but I definitely feel the need to recharge my batteries with some alone time after.
Can you be my boss?
I’m not even sure who my boss is at my job right now.
I keep getting paychecks, bonuses, and raises… so I don’t think it’s a good time to question it.
I have had people at my present employer beg for me to get them into my department. 2 have even said they’d resign if they couldn’t transfer from their dysfunctional managers.
Mebbe they learned I secretly use my frequent flyer miles to upgrade them to First Class on the way home from an arduous trip.
Some of them just appreciate that I have a bowl of chocolate covered almonds and one of peanut M&Ms on my table.
/hides the fact that he can hear people talking anywhere in the house.
Yeah…. there’s a chance I’m on the spectrum.
You might just be an introvert but I think everyone is on a “Spectrum” of some sort..
Pigeonholing humans is a losing strategy.
I spent years thinking I was an extrovert because I can deal with people quite well for a short time. If that time frame extends too long… then I’m no longer an asset.
I was the exact same way, Neph. Once I read more about it and paid attention to what was stressing me, I realized i was actually an “outgoing” introvert.
MikeS:
It’s not really a stress to me. It’s that I deal with people much better in an asynchronous method. But based on what people have told me, I can be charming. I’m not sure how long that lasts though…
Based on those definitions, I’m an introvert empath. I am pretty good at reading others, but it quickly becomes overwhelming and I can easily get lost in being a people pleaser, especially when I lack confidence, which makes it even more overwhelming.
I do well in small groups, especially when they are trusted people, but that varies based on my confidence level. I am comfortable with public speaking to hundreds or thousands. I do much better when I am in a position of authority than when I’m interacting with people in positions of authority over me.
My problem is I’m really good at reading people over a short time period. I can pick out the people who would buy into a Ponzi scheme in under a minute. I don’t understand why they would do it, but I can pick out the people who would.
In the work environment, I can quickly change the conversation from what they have to what they desire.
Nice. Hope you join the challenge.
The challenge?
Keep an eye ? open. Hopefully soon.
You drew that? That’s lovely.
Thank you! Yep, with watercolor. Watercolor is unforgiving so you get good discipline as you acquire “brush mileage” as artists say.
Just had AMC and a few old Hollywood glamour portraits to go by.

Of course!
This shit is never going to stop until one of two things happens.
Mass lobotomies?
Amen.
Well, with the world ending in twelve years, I’m betting that’ll be what happens before anyone involved in such stunts is disciplined in any way.
Closer to eleven years now. Nine percent of rest of time for all humanity has passed since OAC made her announcement.
I want more of this stuff. Right now it’s low level and sporadic, so people are willing to tolerate it. Let’s start screwing with people regularly and causing them serious headaches. Then we’ll see how dedicated these climate activists really are.
I really liked Bob Murphy’s latest episode about lessons for libertarians. He’s right that making yourself a nuisiance doesn’t endear you to the common man.
That’s something Jason Stapleton is always going on about, too. If you really wanna annoy the losers out there, be happy and productive.
People get arrested for criminal trespass, what’s the other thing that needs to happen?
Arrests don’t stop shit.
No, either Team X puts a stop to it, or Team Y puts a stop to Team X.
(And I don’t mean political parties.)
Oi! Gender Traitor, how are your legs feeling now? I’ve been abusing mine long enough that they start responding normally about 8-16 hours after a ride.
Better! Thanks for asking! Good enough to put in half an hour on the treadmill a little while ago (at my favorite speed of 3.3 mph – not so fast that I can’t use Monocle Eyepiece on the tablet.) Feel it most going down the basement steps. I’m hoping if I still put in treadmill time, the legs will be better prepared for next Tuesday’s cycle session.
I burned myself out early in the class today. I managed to get guilt tripped by the class instructor. Still hit an average RPM of 81, with an average power of 161 (but I was slacking the last 10 minutes of class).
Do you have a bike? I’m looking for someone to help guilt me into getting my century next year (doing the MS Buckeye Breakaway). They have a 35 mile option.
‘Fraid not. I’ve pondered getting one, but I’m not sure I’d use it. Come spring, maybe I’ll look around the further reaches of my neighborhood to see if there’s an area I could easily reach, even if it’s just to do laps. We’re right off a pretty busy main drag state highway, and I’m too chicken to deal with it.
If you’re up for it come spring, let me know. There’s a place near me that rents bikes and it’s all on the towpath, so no car troubles.
Or if you’re tall enough, I’ve got multiple bikes.
I’m about 5’4″.
Sorry, you wouldn’t want to fit my bikes.
It would be really uncomfortable for you.
Hey. Save it for Glibfit.
The Browns will be playing then, which means I’ll be down at a local bar drinking and eating wings. She commented about lower pains earlier, I was just following up on that.

Isn’t she a little too old to be getting a piece?
To clarify I’m not rejoicing at the potential death of a human being, regardless of their political stripe. It was my attempt at dark humor….
I’m more interested in the salty ham tears that will flow if Trump gets another SCOTUS pick
We wouldn’t have this dilemma if she retired gracefully like a normal person would. She’s garbage – I have no qualms about saying that.
She had her chance to assure an “appropriate” replacement by retiring during Obama’s second term. She gamble don Hillary’s “sure thing”. Fuck her. The best thing that could happen to her legacy is being responsible for changing the makeup of the court by not retiring.
Even if she kicked tomorrow, what are the odds that a new pick would be confirmed before the election? Pretty low, no?
But when Drumphf is re-elected due to donkey incompetence the freakout is going to be EPIC
Now we have the Garland Precedent, so…wait the R’s control the WH and the Senate, so +1XP for Trump judge picking.
There are way too many Flakes on team red to get to 51. Not one team blue critter would flip. My guess is that RGB’s seat is part and parcel of the next election.
We’ll get to hear all about how McConnell is a hypocrite for nominating a SCOTUS pick during an election year.
Or how it’s inappropriate for a president under impeachment to be allowed to nominate a justice?
Good. Like there are any fucking “rules” any more.
The shitty thing is that the “Great State” of Utah decidd to elect good ol boy Mitt. So he’ll be leading the charge.
At least his dad claimed to have been brainwashed.
McConnell has already shown his hand. He will have no problem pushing through a nominee during an election year, because the party that controls the WH, also controls the Senate.
I know, and everyone pretended to be aghast, as if they didn’t know that was what he always was talking about.
That hit my news feed earlier. I may have to break out my “Still like beer” shirt for Thanksgiving to shut down idiots.
Yanno, I’d be happy if she just said, “Fuck this, I’m outtie” and retired.
I don’t need her to die. I need her to give up her car keys.
Pretty much this.
Well, my alma matter is terrible at football (and other sports…) these days. We are now 1 and 10.

Well I spent and absolutely joyous day working hard and cutting will likely be my entire winter supply of firewood.
Spending the entire day in the company of a friend who sacrificed an entire Saturday to fell, buck and haul logs solidified that I made the right move in returning to Spokane.
And now I’m enjoying delicious Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale in front of a crackling tamarack fire.
Life could be worse.

Wow what a Rangers game! Too bad I slaving over dinner through most of it.
/reconsidering how much I actually enjoy “cooking”
To find a love of cooking, first you need to find something you enjoy eating. Then make it at home. If you don’t enjoy any part of that, and can afford it, order in/eat out/but pre-made stuff.
I do like cooking.
I don’t like a tiny little kitchen that is separated from the rest of the apartment. I want one of those kitchen/barstool/living room combos.
PS. I don’t like cleaning dishes. I mean, I already knew that but holy hell do I really know it now.
I’ve also discovered that unlike in the rest of my life, I’m totally anal in the kitchen. I watch those cooking shows where food slops all over the stove and cringe. I spend as much time cleaning my station as actually cooking. It gets exhausting.
Really? Are we not doing phrasing anymore?
The funny apart is I live alone.
I’ve seen (the strait version of) that video…
Hormuz?
What’s the difference between a Hormuz and an enzyme?
My current kitchen is small (and it’s a house I picked out). But it has a gas range, plenty of counter space (assuming I pick up before cooking), and I know what I’m doing.
Want a guilty pleasure? Watch Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America. You’ll feel better about yourself (I know I do).
Meh, I found it fun for a season, but saw the whole fake reality set in, me knowing how the bread is buttered.
Yeah, the later seasons are fscking garbage. When you have someone waving a bread knife to cut steak… that’s a sign you’re no longer good. But again, I admitted to begin it’s a guilty pleasure.
I like that show but can rarely make it all the way through the season because stoopid overload.
I’m just jealous of people who can entertain or just watch TV while cooking.
My last place was even worse – the LR faced the street and the kitchen was a looooong walk down to the rear of the place.
The last place I rented had a kitchen with carpet. Gas range and stove, but an industrial carpet on the floor. It hurt my brain.
lol-wrong
I almost threw a bucket of water on it the first time I tried to clean the place before having a girl over. That’s when I realized the kitchen was carpeted.
PPS. In ten years in my current neighborhood, I have ordered in one (1) time.
What’s changed is upping my game in the cooking department. I still eat too much garbage but I’m too cheap of a bastard to order restaurant crap.
There’s too many cheap places (with good food near me) in my neck of the woods. If I don’t cook for myself the majority of the week, my waist will be going the wrong way. Hell, tomorrow I’ll be heading to a place where I can get 10 wings for $5.
Oh hell, nothing is worth avoiding good wings.
These are beyond good. They’re insanely good. And Sunday is when they have the special.
My niece was freaking out about some of the flavors the first time she was there. “What’s hot horseradish, and how is it not in my life?”
OMG that sounds amazing.
Horseradish is foul (blame my dad for that one),
But the wings at the local are awesome. Ten are a decent meal, those in there 20’s only had 15.
We just used our brand new air fryer for the first time. Wow. This could be a game changer.
Yeah, I’m eyeing one of those in the near future.
I bought one for my aunt, and it sold me. I used to deep fry a lot, but I wouldn’t clean out the sludge and it would get really gross, but I really like my air fryer.
My wife ended up scoring one from JC Penney’s for $20 (after rebate). It has no temp control and only and a simple mechanical timer on it, but it’s a nice cheap introduction to the whole thing. If we keep using it, I could see this one going to work with me and us getting a higher quality one pretty quickly.
Mike, I have 2 of differing sizes, and, just bought an Instant Pot air fryer oven at Target.
Well, bought one, but had a very busted body somehow (box wasn’t damaged and everything was in place as if new on shelf). So, got it replaced.
Anywho, just used it for 1st time before getting on here.
Yes–it/they are game-changers.
Also, linky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZrHxAZJcX8
So I could replace my toaster over with this? Hm….
(Yeah, I don’t room for another gadget in my kitchen.)
I have a new-ish toaster oven that I don’t want to get rid of. So, instead this beauty replaced an old toaster/brekkie cooker set-up. Also, going to give away our original, smaller air fryer.
But, this does seem to be an amazing li’l gem. It actually broils, which is the setting I just used. Our toaster oven has a broil function, but it might as well not.
(2nd try)
My toaster over is a mistake. It doesn’t even cook evenly. I would gladly toss it.
No, I got ya. Just a bit of cross-over with my situation. I have no idea if this is a good toaster oven replacement, IF you are using the oven for toast.
I wasn’t, but, will be now, since we got rid of the toaster thingy. So, we actually have 2 counter-top ovens now. YMMV on this thing, but, I recommend it after 1st use.
Also, Target sells it for $120, apparently. Was on sale until today, for $100, and, we used gift cards to get it down to $75.
Crazy finish to the Bruins game.

Prof asks teachers to combat ‘whiteness’ in art education as form of ‘reparation’
https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=14029
***
To ease the saturation of white supremacy in art education, Wolfgang suggests that teachers stop relying on traditional forms of art, such as schools of art, canons of art history, and museums, and rather look to social media. She writes, “Social media [is an] essential source for Black and Brown scholarship…If you aren’t following Black Twitter, BIPOC artists on Instagram…I would encourage you to question why.”
Another solution Wolfgang suggests is having a curriculum that, instead of teaching students about black subject matters, teaches students to value “Blackness and Brownness” like they supposedly “value” whiteness. In addition, she encourages teachers to use curriculum that “de-centers whiteness” by teaching “histories of harm, erasure, and eroticization of Black and Brown bodies.”

***
On March 31, 1943, while stationed in British India, Baggett’s squadron, part of the 7th Bombardment Group, was ordered to destroy a bridge at Pyinmana, Burma.[4] Before reaching their target, the 12 B-24s of 7th BG were intercepted by 13 Ki-43 fighters of 64 Sentai IJAAS.[7] Baggett’s plane was severely damaged and was set on fire by several hits to the fuel tanks. The crew was forced to bail out, escaping the crippled B-24 only seconds before it exploded. The Japanese pilots then began attacking U.S. airmen as they parachuted to earth. Two of the crewmen were killed in the air, though contrary to some reports that the pilot, Lloyd K. Jensen was “summarily executed”, Jensen did survive the war.[8]) Baggett, who had been wounded, decided to play dead, hoping the enemy pilots would ignore him. Nevertheless, one Ki-43 fighter flew close to Baggett and slowed to make sure. Baggett saw the pilot open his canopy and decided to take a chance. He drew his .45 caliber M1911 pistol and fired four shots at the pilot. He then watched as the plane stalled and plunged toward the ground.[9][10][11]
Baggett later gained fame as the only person ever to shoot down an aircraft using a pistol….

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaname_Harada
***
Kaname Harada (原田要, 11 August 1916 – 3 May 2016) was a Japanese flying ace of World War II. He was credited with shooting down as many as 19 Allied aircraft between late 1941 and when he was himself downed in October 1942. After recovering from the injuries sustained in this incident, Harada served as a flying instructor for the remainder of the war.
Following the end of hostilities in 1945, Harada worked as a farmer, before founding a nursery for children in 1965 and later a kindergarten. He was an anti-war activist from 1991, and remained a prominent speaker until late in his life.
***
From bombing Pearl Harbor to kindergarten teacher…
***
Following World War II, Harada initially worked as a dairy farmer, but suffered from nightmares in which he saw the faces of the American airmen he had downed during the war.[8] In 1965, he founded a nursery for children with his wife after she asked him “if you want to atone for the lives you have taken, what better way is there than to nurture new lives?” The couple opened a kindergarten in 1969.[2] He continued as a principal of the kindergarten until his retirement.[4][8] In a 2013 interview with The Australian Harada said:
The first incarnation of my life was as a ruthless killer. I still live with a sense of sin over those I killed. I chased them and shot them down—such a horrible thing to do. Now, I go to the kindergarten every day and interact with the children. I want to nurture kind and considerate hearts in all of them.

So this house in Kansas City is for sale. Anybody wanna take a stab at that architectural style?
FLW? Either way, WOW!
Here are the rest of the pix and here’s the listing.
Gorgeous. A little outside my price range, though.
Right?
I’ve driven past there before and it looks so unassuming from the street.
And it is surrounded by flamboyantly stately mansions with huge lawns and no covering trees.
I love all the windows.
I would replace all the furniture and wall coverings.
But dayum, those windows!
I would put up with everything else just to have those windows.
I wonder if the furniture is original. I doubt it.
One of the fun facts about FLW is he designed all the furniture for his houses. It was all straight-backed torture-device looking – not the fru-fru stuff in these pictures.
This is just across the street and down a tick.
Nice, but doesn’t do anything for me. Certainly not an extra two million dollars worth.

Well, not to investigate me. After a couple of hours of trying to convince her (both at the facility–incredibly nice, actually–and in her Dr’s office), her doc told me, “Taker her home and call APS”. I know the agent/whatever interviewed her at her house yesterday evening.
She needs 24-hour care, but insist on dying in her home, which is likely to happen much sooner than later under current conditions. I was able to get her home health-care worker hours almost doubled.
To 33 hours/week. This what we are dealing with.
If you can help it at all (anyone/everyone), do what you can to NOT be at the mercy of the State for your elder health care. If you have to be, start prepping for things years before you access benefits.

Hmmm….maybe he can go take care of mom.
Unfortunately, things are rather strained between parent and child. While the dementia is at play, this is entirely within her wheelhouse, behavior-wise. And not just in her old age, either.
I’m so sorry to hear that, but it’s not unusual when dealing with these issues. And I know that doesn’t make it any easier. AND and when the parent stops resisting the necessary changes, it’s often because they’re declining even more. I wish I could say something more comforting than “been there, done that.”
No–understood, and input is greatly appreciated.
She has issues, and, ‘we’ have issues. The really bad part is the need to go to APS because of the overall lack of resources. It’s difficult to have to go against my own principles of trying to leave people alone to live as they wish. As long as she isn’t driving, she is very unlikely to hurt anyone but herself.
Of course, she can’t function without driving, or, having someone to do so, and I can’t be it.
I’m afraid I have to sign off – I’m fading fast. (No nap today.) Please keep us posted as much as you can. There are so many of us who either have dealt with this in the past or are currently dealing with it. If nothing else, I hope it helps to know you’re not completely alone.
