Can’t talk. I’m in line at Best Buy waiting for it to open. Its just barely cold enough to be annoying. I am fueled entirely by this, and I don’t recommend it.
The election in Uruguay was too close to call, but the left-wing candidate conceded after a count of 35,000 ballots from voters who did not make it to their assigned voting station.
Some of the dozens of demonstrators had bandages on their faces and told angry tales of being hit by face-level fire that they felt was intentional. “In Chile, asking for dignity costs you an eye,” one sign proclaimed.
Well, dumbass. Asking for “dignity” used to cost you a ride in a helicopter…
Brazilian Trump, now the focus of his own witch hunt.
Well, this is…um…an interesting way to handle it. On the bright side, if he does what the last guy did, they might actually have something worthwhile to impeach him.
Here’s some Sabbath for Black Friday.
What do you mean by posting the links at this time of day?
Can’t talk. I’m in line at Best Buy waiting for it to open – wait do people actually go to stores for black Friday? you can do that shit online.
You can’t get footage of stampedes and fights by staying home and buying things online.
Also, anyone shooting footage of in-store fighting please turn your phone sideways, thanks
You also have to get out of the house to properly Outrage! against America, capitalism, whatever.
I thought people did that on Twatter.
I was in a bar on Bermuda on Black Friday a couple of years ago. A couple of the locals were bitching about Black Friday coming to Bermuda.
I hate buying stuff cheap. Those damned capitalist running dogs (includes Chinese) forcing me to live like a king on a meager income. Keep your hands off my poverty!
The election in Uruguay was too close to call, but the left-wing – if the right won there is definitely electoral fraud. I demand a recount.
This is good:

Honestly, while I oppose brutality and am convinced there is a lot of fuckery going on in Chile, a lot of these leftist protest in South America leave me thinking those people want to destroy their country. They never learn, these south Americans.
Brazilian Trump, now the focus of his own witch hunt.
I am not a fan of this guy but it amuses me to see all the world lefties getting their panties in a knot. Although he does seem a bit to authoritarian. But he’s Brazilian, he would not win power otherwise. What is the point of Brazil anyway? Besides the chicks in bikinis on beaches and such?
*snort*
What’s Brazilian for “deep state”?
Deepo Stato?
They’re of Portuguese heritage, not Spanish. They’re too lazy to come up with a word for deep state.
Deepão statão
What’s Brazilian for “deep state”?
An elaborate cover up of the exiatence of pubic hair?
Well, this is…um…an interesting way to handle it. On the bright side, if he does what the last guy did, they might actually have something worthwhile to impeach him.
Meh I think the US is a long way still from droning Mexico. But who knows, all those drowns just sitting their. I still say the US should have annexed both Mexico and Canada in the 1800s. Things would be simpler now, and the border wall much smaller.
Sooooo. Al alone in this joint?
Yup, I’m about to hit the road and head in to work.
Hit the road? there’s a song in there somewhere.
What is the point of working for the government if you have to work on a black friday?
Then again given you palate I assume you are not even properly hungover.
The day after Thanksgiving is a quiet day at the office. It’s easier to save my leave and just come in than to waste it on a day where I wouldn’t otherwise leave the house. I can stay inside any time of the year.
I’m up. I’m just working this morning or until our snail mail arrives & I get it distributed. Covering a couple of things for a coworker who’s taking the day off, but then I’m leaving to go have fun – NOT shopping.
And it’s weird to have fresh links when I first get up on a weekday morning.
Mexicans… go figure
Also weird to me: it seems as if my trusty bedside digital alarm clock has started to run a little fast. I’d noticed it was several minutes ahead of the clock on the cable box, so I’d reset it a couple of days ago. This morning it was again several minutes ahead – which may have been just as well, since I’d hit the snooze button. I don’t recall ever having a plug-it-into-the-wall digital clock start getting off-kilter that way.
Is Mr GT messing with you?
Well, THAT’S a rather personal question, don’tcha think? ::winks::
Hey – wanted to make sure you knew – in our little left-handed/sinister/gauche exchange yesterday, I was NOT calling YOU gauche. Scrolled past that comment later & thought, “Yikes! I hope he didn’t think I was suggesting HE was,” and I felt bad.
I had figured it out. I even spent some time trying to come up with a joke to play off of it… but got distracted and never finished the thought.
Yes, but UCS’s jokes are on the level of “Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it was gauche.” :-p
“Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it had nowhere else to gauche.”
Jeez, do I have to point out all the low hanging fruit for you guys?
Ted is to humor what blind chickens are to sour grapes.
You got that simile from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, didn’t you?
Don’t be silly, it came from Grimm’s Aesop.
Did drugs fall out of your ass when you got it?
Of course not.
Nope! It’s 7:30pm here! It’s been a rough day but things are looking up.
Dignity is not something anyone else can give you. It is a character trait one cultivates within oneself, regardless of circumstance.
Well put.
Leaves me out, too much of a burden.
I’ve thought dignity is what self-respect looks like from the outside.

Funny way to spell opioids.
Also, “threat”.
I’m really curious what they think misperceived means.
Man, they are really sciencing the shit out of this phenomenon!
I think they are saying there is no evidence that whites are losing social status to whites.
Of course I don’t know how you could get evidence as that is so steeped in politics as to not make any measurable definition viable.
It Also doesn’t help that the main “principal” these persons hold is that minority good, whites bad.
I think it’s more a result of boredom from lack of economic opportunities in places where lots of small-town and rural white folks live – you know, something for which there is plenty of evidence.

Time to go finish getting ready for my abbreviated work day. Catch y’all later!
Hope everyone had a tremendous Thanksgiving! I’m sad I didn’t get to share mine with my family, but (SAINT!) Lady and I had a lovely meal together. Will see family soon!
The recovery is still a daily process but it’s getting better. Today was/still is balls-to-the-wall terrible. The fantastic news is that incredibly little of today’s difficulties were physical. I had/am mostly still having a legit panic attack. Lots of things to go over and they all hit me while Lady was at work, so I had to try to get through everything alone. Definitely still a bit shaky, but Lady is home and I’m doing much better. I figure all the things that I’m afraid of, just like everything else in history, need to be confronted, addressed and then tackled. Accomplishment defeats anxiety. Be careful, Evan! Onwards and upwards!
I thank all for the kind words and wishes I’ve received. My heart goes out to everyone (too many names to type here) who are going through hardship or loss.
Sup E of Eville. Glad you are recovering. Keep at it.
The doctors are super impressed with my recovery speed. Psh. Some of them thought I wouldn’t be able to walk after surgery. I started walking the next day. Kicked the shit out of that task to their surprise. Same with my skull getting itself back together. I am still working on the loss of memory that I have.
Today is just weird because I’ve always had anxiety–it and depression run in the family. My dad has Asperger’s and I inherited the bad parts of that. My brother got the ambitious and hard-working side of it! But I didn’t have this type of panic attack when I got my hips replaced, so it’s weird. My brain was damaged (not too bad) so I’m fairly sure that’s why a lot of my issues through recovery are mental. They are recovering, but it takes patience. I’m thinking that’s what triggered my brain/mind today.
“Keep at it.” —-You are fucking correct about that. Thanks so much.
I don’t have any useful advice for panic attacks.

Dammit, I was gonna post that.
I said “Useful advice”.

do not facepalm to hard though
Good to hear from you. When things are quiet in your neighborhood we (I) get a little anxious. Reality doesn’t go away when you close your eyes. You’re doing great and keep us up to date. Hope you have a chance to be back with your Indie family for Xmas.
“Reality doesn’t go away when you close your eyes.”
Exactly true. And doesn’t have to just be vision to keep out or create a new reality. All day I have been imagining voices/noises and almost every real noise I hear outside our apartment door are tricking/scaring me into thinking all sorts of things. Pretty scary stuff because it makes one question their own sanity and reality. That’s not fun to erase and replace with what is actually happening.
Thanks for the Xmas/family wishes. That might be difficult to accomplish but I/we are going to try our best!

My mom went through a decade of that. Auditory hallucinations and being on a razor’s edge of a panic attack at all times…. Come to find out, it was a side effect of convincing a doc to use an acute anti-anxiety pill to treat chronic anxiety….
Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Hopefully the anxiety subsides quickly and permanently.
“My mom went through a decade of that. Auditory hallucinations and being on a razor’s edge of a panic attack at all times…. ”
^^I am so sorry to hear that. I hope some peace was had.The hallucinations are terrifying. Trying to ignore/realize they aren’t real/carry on is not something I’d wish on anyone.
“it was a side effect of convincing a doc to use an acute anti-anxiety pill to treat chronic anxiety….”
^^I do take anti-anxiety for emergencies like today, but mostly I’m on meds meant to prevent the chance of me developing epilepsy or have seizures. The docs say that the chance of that happening is incredibly small with my recovery so far and how things look internally. They wouldn’t let me leave the hospital for weeks because they were worried about me getting an infection. I kicked the shit out of that too so they let me go.
“Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Hopefully the anxiety subsides quickly and permanently.”
^^Wow, thanks. Having talks with you and all of the guys like has been very helpful in helping the anxiety today go away. This is like therapy for me and I appreciate everything that you and everyone has said.
I hope you are feeling better soon. Is it a neurological problem or are they dismissing it as anxiety?
Interesting question–easiest answer: It’s both issues combined. I have had serious anxiety issues for a long time: General Anxiety Disorder. Have seen psychiatrists (not regularly) for over a decade.
So part of it is my personality, but the meds I’m taking now certainly aren’t helping. The biggest neurological problem is with my memory, as that was the part of my brain that was injured. Don’t remember the accident; don’t remember several weeks after surgery; some bits of my past have been wiped out and I don’t remember them until reminded of them. Then I WILL remember them but they don’t come out normally like they used to.
How to best explain? Think of someone asking you a question–the answer is on the tip of your tongue but you can’t get it out. When you hear the answer the knowledge/answer floods back in and you get it and can even expound upon it.
Add my anxiety with struggles like that (and unemployment stress/worries about the future) and I think that paints a pretty accurate picture. Most days I don’t feel like this and I love that although there is still some important pain issues to deal with, that recovery is going great. This is more of a mental health issue today.
I’m glad your recovery is going great, too.
Evan, given what happened to you you’ve made astounding progress. As a neurologist I make a great plumber but there’s a good chance your memory issues will mostly clear up.
Once you’re off the problem-causing drugs that oughta help some of the anxiety issues. Sounds like you’re recovering really well. Great news!
Best wishes!
Evan, I want you to know we’re all counting on you. Good luck.
It’s amazing how much you’ve already been through in your life. I know you’ll get through this. Keep on keepin’ on, man.
It’s like your own brain gaslighting you.
Glad to hear from you. Keep at it!
Good luck with your recovery Evan! IANAD, but for anxiety breathing exercises (inhale 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, exhale 6 seconds), and hand massages may help.
Good to hear, I was behind on this site when you posted your story with the pics.
HOLY SHIT was the first thing that popped into my mind.
Keep moving forward and good luck.
Nice to see MS is OK. Apparently there was a tornado warning in his (and OMWC/SP’s) neck of the woods overnight.
Black Friday is way more important than an impending tornado. Tornado? In AZ? WTF is up with that?
Yes. I am okay. We can rebuild our great society.
Besides, it was just rain.
We now have some news on the 18,000 year old #wolf or #dog puppy. Genome analyses shows it’s a male. So we asked our Russian colleagues to name it… Thus, the name of the puppy is Dogor! Dogor is a Yakutian word for “friend”, which seems very suitable.
https://twitter.com/CpgSthlm/status/1198921651683045376
You can’t fool me! I know they picked that name because they aren’t sure if it’s a Dog-or a wolf!
So why not Dolf?
It’s a dog, and a dessert topping.

It’s not a question of what the policy should be, it’s whine whine whine that they didn’t listen to us “experts”
Seems more a question for the people, with the potential for useful input from ethicists and child psychologists, among others.
10 does seem a bit young for jail.
Former diplomat and Mexico expert Jana Nelson told NPR that as Trump’s comments have spread, worries have deepened in Mexico that the designation could lead to military action.
“It has generated some concern in Mexico that the U.S. will actually send the military into Mexico, and if not boots on the ground itself, then perhaps drones to combat drug cartels,” said Nelson, a Wilson Center political analyst who is based in Mexico City.
Roberta Jacobson, who served as U.S. ambassador to Mexico in the Trump administration before retiring last May, agreed that the possibility should be taken seriously.
“There’s a real concern that something like this is a prelude to stronger action, which is military action, which Trump has mentioned at least twice to Mexican presidents,” Jacobson told NPR.
Maybe they should take the hint, and get their fucking house in order.
The US could help by decriminalizing the drugs that the cartels are trafficking.
Wilson Center
The irony, it burns.
Was the fact that Reason Robby was in a scooter accident discussed, cause for some reason I found it funny
Please tell me he was on the side of the road trying to change the tire.
He got hit by a crossing chicken.
How gauche.
I hope his hair is OK
it is, he was not wearing a helmet to mess it up
Please tell me he was riding bitch on the scooter. It would confirm the best timeline ever!
The Mexican president does not advocate confronting drug traffickers with military force. Instead, he has committed to tackling the root causes of violence, like addressing poverty and corruption. López Obrador has called this policy “abrazos, no balazos,” or hugs, not bullets.
——–
But according to former diplomat Nelson, many Mexicans see the U.S. as having an outsize role in perpetuating Mexico’s cartels, since drug demand and military-grade weapons the cartels use can be traced to America.
“Mexico sees the root cause of violence as weapons being bought in the United States and smuggled into Mexico,” Nelson said. “And if consumption in the U.S. was squashed, then so would [be] violence on the southern side of the border.”
Fingers were pointed.
So Nelson called out Obama’s “Fast and Furious” program, right?
This shit again? “I’m poor so I joined a murderous drug cartel”? Pull the other one.
Was the fact that Reason Robby was in a scooter accident discussed, cause for some reason I found it funny
Brain damage? How could they tell?
Saw Robby on “Kennedy” last night. He’s a really big guy. Looked like his hair was short and somewhat manageable.
Maybe a rerun…
“military-grade weapons the cartels use can be traced to America.”
Unless we’re selling to their military, I call bullshit.

Do the Germans need to go to Russia to get inspiration for authoritarian laws?
Synergy – look for approaches to authoritarianism their thinks hadn’t thought of.
No. Wrongthink such as “Holocaust denial” has been a crime for decades. A tweak here and there is all that is needed.
Now we know the real reason the preserved Auschwitz.

I hate hate speech! Now I’ll never live that down. Ban hating hate speech !
The “consequences” not being social disapproval, but a visit from a government goon. Fuck that bitch. She is an enemy of liberty plain as can be.
“Fuck that bitch.”
I’d be careful I hear she’s working on agreeing with Japan and Italy.
Why do you hate not-hate? Germany is on the cusp of ending hate!
Alternate history lesson for today
If we are, indeed, on the brink of a second Civil War, it’s already being waged as a “cold war,” with the occasional armed skirmish being provoked by the so-called alt-right movement. And, as in the past, this will be a war by the very, very rich against the rest of America.
This is not the first time we’ve faced such a crisis as a nation.
Each time, forces of massive accumulated or inherited wealth have nearly succeeded in taking full control of our nation, replacing a democracy, where the will of the people is accomplished through their elected representatives, with a form of government where most government functions reinforce the power, wealth and control of the morbidly rich.
——-
Four generations later, in the 1850s, massive wealth was controlled by a few thousand very large plantation oligarchs in the South. The South was politically and police-wise run as a full-blown oligarchy, while the North was still largely democratic (the “Gilded Age” Northern oligarchs wouldn’t fully emerge for another 30 years). The Civil War could thus be recast as a war between oligarchy and democracy, where democracy won by a whisker.
——-
In the 1970s, America’s oligarchs succeeded in getting enough of “their guys” placed on the Supreme Court to, in 1976 and 1978, legalize political bribery for the first time in American history. This opened the door to oligarchic control of all three branches of government via the Reagan Revolution.
All that was left was to get the populace to support a final transition to oligarchy, a task undertaken by oligarchs who controlled the media, largely Clear Channel/Rush Limbaugh and billionaire Rupert Murdoch with Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.
As a result, we are no longer a functioning democratic republic; we are now operating as an oligarchy.
Fucking billionaires are the problem. Because something.
I know how to counter the growth of oligarchy! More power to government. The oligarchs will have no choice but to give up!
We are in an oligarchy, so we need to give power to the government (run by olligatchs) to take on the oligarchs.
That was the derpiest revisionist history lesson I’ve had in a while.
a task undertaken by oligarchs who “controlled the media”
Clearly all the three letter news organizations are right-wing propaganda networks, clearly.
No, it’s “largely Clear Channel/Rush Limbaugh and billionaire Rupert Murdoch with Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.”
I have no idea what you’re going on about.
“And, as in the past, this will be a war by the very, very rich against the rest of America.”
Sigh. I mean I remember reading how the south preemptively struck without warning and invaded the North first. And that they went about burning cities to the ground.
And clearly Lincoln was not an oligarch who engaged in infrastructure boondoggles and rampant cronyism, believed in white Supremacy and cynically set up the Fort Sumpter incident as a pretext to consolidate power. Clearly.
So … oligarchs like the Clintons?

So, they’re celebrating a depiction of minorities as criminals?
Damn your nimble fingers!
Well, if they showed up here they’d certainly be suspect.
So they’re playing into the stereotype of blacks being no-good shiftless criminals.
Um, it’s not imagination, they were white.

I would bet even money that this person thinks Bonnie and Clyde are just an American myth like Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, or Davey Crockett.

To defend Greenland against Iceland.
That’s icist.
Possibly landist too.
Well then could somebody please explain what we need NATO for?
Well, how else are the second tier powers going to give the American Establishment an excuse to act as their bully boys?
If we just had Russia join NATO that would be final victory
We shouldn’t even have Turkey in NATO. They don’t have any North Atlantic coast.

Congress has passed just 70 bills into law this year. Granted, it still has one more year in its term, but the number pales in comparison to recent past sessions of Congress, which typically see anywhere from 300-500 bills passed in two years (and that is even a diminished number from the 700-800 bills passed in the 1970s and 1980s).
Ten of those 70 bills this year have been renaming federal post offices or Veterans Affairs facilities, and many others are related to appropriations or extending programs like the National Flood Insurance or the 9/11 victim compensation fund.
This has led to House Democrats decrying McConnell’s so-called “legislative graveyard,” a moniker the Senate majority leader has proudly adopted. McConnell calls himself the “grim reaper” of Democratic legislation he derides as socialist, but many of the bills that never see the Senate floor are bipartisan issues, like a universal background check bill, net neutrality, and reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.
“From raising the minimum wage to ensuring equal pay, we have passed legislation to raise wages. And we have passed legislation to protect and expand health coverage and bring down prescription drug prices,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said in a statement to Vox. “We continue to urge Senator McConnell to take up our bills, many of which are bipartisan.”
Obstructionism! The horror of a do-nothing Senate. This is why it needs to go.
Democracy means do what we want!
Seventy is still too many.
SO does the number of laws need to permanently increase to infinity and beyond? an one never have to many ?
It’s all the Senate’s fault. Definitely not house leadership for passing completely partisan laws they know won’t pass.
Mitch will be remember as “McConnell the Libertarian”. Refuser of Bills that don’t include massive deficit spending
“…bipartisan issues, like a universal background check bill,…”
Sure thing sweetie.
Mitt Romney would have voted for it. Bipartisan means you don’t need constitutional authority.
With all the energy spent on Orange Man Bad and “resisting” and “Impeach now” it’s a wonder they’ve written any Legislation at all
AOC has sponsored like 200 bills she told Trump to keep up, but allhe Candi is be SNP
This “gridlock(tm)” is my favorite byproduct of the impeachment hearings. All these worthless politicos spinning their wheels going nowhere doesn’t leave them much time to make more worthless rules.
but many of the bills that never see the Senate floor are bipartisan issues, like a universal background check bill, net neutrality, and reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.
In what way are these “bipartisan issues”? It’s like Vox doesn’t even want to be the pretense of being anything other than a gang of hacks pretending to be serious, “data-driven” journalists.
As above, one or more RINOs might vote for it, it’s bipartisan.
Progressives and liberals agree. Isn’t that what bipartisan means?
Hate crime
A police officer in Oklahoma was dismayed when he bought a coffee at the local Starbucks on Thanksgiving and noticed the name on the label was “Pig.”
The chief of police the Kiefer, Okla. said one of his officers trekked to Starbucks to get some java for a dispatcher when he received the insulting label.
“What irks me is the absolute and total disrespect for a police officer who, instead of being home with family and enjoying a meal and a football game, is patrolling his little town,” Chief Johnny O’Mara said in a Facebook post that included an image of the “Pig” coffee cup.
Chief O’Mara called the coffee shop and employees there offered to “replace the coffee with a correct label.” But the chief wasn’t buying it.
Lock ’em up, and throw away the key.
Fake news. That was hot chocolate, not coffee.
hot chocolate and donuts, wtf?
also, it was a ham and pineapple donut.
“It’s another tiny symptom and a nearly indiscernible shout from a contemptuous, roaring and riotous segment of a misanthropic society that vilifies those who stand for what’s right and glorifies the very people who would usher in the destruction of the social fabric.”
That pig has a way with words.
nearly indiscernible shout
um?
riotous
did they throw the coffee or write an unpleasant label on it?
misanthropic society
oxymoronic?
social fabric
double win: he gets to decide what constitutes society; also provides moral mandate for any behavior necessary to protect it
Also, note how the cop is a hero for working on a Thanksgiving, but not the Starbucks employees.
The streets are probably a safer place for a pig to be than home on thanksgiving.
Safer for his wife anyway.
Just another Thanksgiving where she has to explain why she keeps falling down those stairs.
Ouch! That’s gonna leave a mark.
Nice how something that should be rejected as “too local” for the local paper gets made into a national story.

The guy could have just privately spoken with the manager, not did the social media outrage BS.
I’d be pissed if someone wrote something nasty to me on a Starbucks cup. I guess I might also laugh it off as the barista pissed he has to work on a holiday and taking it out on the customers.
But running to tweet or fbook post about it is lame
You know what the pigs always say. If you can’t beat them, shoot that mother fucker.
?
Pew pew!
Chief O’Mara called the coffee shop
Because his employee was too chicken shit to speak to a manager on the spot or take the many many store manager/district manager business cards that are there by the napkins?
Or the chief wanted to use his office and position to intimidate and threaten the Starbucks employee who did it? Sounds like a 1983 violation to start. If he wasn’t happy with a new coffee, what was his angle?
Mr Lacalle is conservative and very pro-business. He campaigned on promises to observe fiscal responsibility and reactivate the economy, criticising the “reckless spending” of previous governments.
This is promising for Uruguay.
What began Oct. 18 as a student protest over a modest increase in subway fares has turned into a much larger and broader movement with a long list of demands that largely have to do with the wide gap between the rich and ordinary Chileans.
Protesters are calling for reforms to health care, education, pensions and even the constitution, which dates from 1980 during the military dictatorship.
The early mass demonstrations were mostly peaceful, but it was common to see small bands of hooded protesters hurl rocks, raise barricades and confront police, who clamped down with violence.
On Thursday, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera criticized the violent protesters.
“We are facing a powerful and implacable enemy who does not respect anything or anyone, who does not respect the lives of human beings … who does not respect our infrastructure,” he said, referring to looting, arson and other violence.
Fucking Communists.
Bolsonaro, a former army captain, has argued that environmental protections often become an obstacle to economic development in Brazil.
“Often”? I suspect that is an understatement.
Former diplomat and Mexico expert Jana Nelson told NPR that as Trump’s comments have spread, worries have deepened in Mexico that the designation could lead to military action.
Pancho Villa redux?
“This is promising for Uruguay”
We’ll see. Uruguay has a lot going for it and could easily be the richest country in South America. But they have squandered Alot in subsidized and nationalized businesses. The thing saving them is that there is a lot of money compliance.
That pig has a way with words.
He must have been a liberal arts major.

Managed to snag a black Friday deal on a new laptop for my gf from the comfort of my recliner.

This means I’m probably 80% done with Xmas gifts. Yay.
Now this is how you shitlord.
My hearts and prayers go out to those of you who went through the Great Thanksgiving IG Blackout of 2019.

“if consumption in the U.S. was squashed, then so would violence on the southern side of the border”
Y’know, one way for illicit use to be squashed is to not make it illicit anymore. Silly me! I guess I just am incapable of understanding the intricacies of Mexico-US policy.
But then how would we save people from themselves?!?
Y’know, one way for illicit use to be squashed is to not make it illicit anymore.
Sort of true. I’m not particularly convinced that total consumption would be squashed. I don’t think it’s illegality is that much a driving force in its demand. That said, a legal domestic industry would almost certainly devastate their market share.
Use: unchanged.
Illicit use: much reduced.
Satire?

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has blasted Democrats, including former Senate Judiciary Committee and now-presidential candidate Joe Biden, over the sexual-misconduct allegations against the jurist during his 1991 confirmation hearings.
Thomas opens up about the process in a new documentary and claims the “biggest impediment” to his life and legal career was not the KKK but the “modern-day liberal.”
“I felt as though in my life I had been looking at the wrong people as the people who would be problematic toward me,” Thomas says in the film “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words,” according to ABC News.
“We were told that, ‘Oh, it’s gonna be the bigot in the pickup truck; it’s gonna be the Klansmen; it’s gonna be the rural sheriff.’ But it turned out that through all of that, ultimately the biggest impediment was the modern-day liberal.”
You never would have gotten anywhere in life without white liberals, and don’t you forget it.
Between the bigotry of low expectations and the ‘Uncle Tom’ing’ of black people who dare leave the ideological plantation, I can safely say that white liberals are the most racist demographic that exists *in reality* today.
*In every white liberals’ mind there are unseen klansmen in every small town in flyover country constantly on the prowl in their pick up with the gadsden flag bumper sticker looking to lynch a minority*
Not Gadsden. Stars’n’bars.
Now adays Gadsen Flag is a sign of white supremacy
A useful reminder that the left has been playing this game with SCOTUS appointments for decades – at least since Bork, and not just with sexual-misconduct allegations.
I’ve seen a lot of commentators saying Harbaugh will git canned if he can’t bet OSU this weekend. I get the frustration with loosing to your rival for 5 years, but it definitely seems like cutting your nose to spite your face. It’s not like he’s had a bad year this year. I’ve seen other schools fire coaches for failing to beat a rival, despite having ok to good years and it doesn’t go well for them (I’m looking at you BYU).
git canned
Damn you Linus Torvald
If Harbaugh is in trouble for not beating tOSU, then Franklin at tPSU better watch his ass, as the Nits haven’t solved the Bucks in the last 8 of 9.
Franklin should go to USC or FSU because the Penn Staters are out of their fucking minds.
I don’t think he will get fired if he loses, but if he gets destroyed, like last year, he will be on the hottest of hot seats, and will certainly lose his job next year if he can’t beat them.
I mean get a recruit from Ohio, you overpaid goose!
He is paid Saban-style money and hasn’t won a division, let alone a conference, or national championship. He’s 0-5 vs OSU and 500 vs MSU. He isn’t paid that kind of money to go 9-2/9-3 when he gets taken to the woodshed in the Consolation Bowl.
OTOH, who else are they going to hire that has a better shot of winning?
This tickles me pink.
It also tickles me brown.

Never Underestimate the Power of ‘Community’
So “Community” is the root cause of the proliferation of trash movies for garbage people?
My God.
I actually found season 2 and 3 of Community entertaining.
I found seasons 1, 2, 3, and 5 entertaining.
it was totes meta
Huh.
The spousal unit just told me to order a toilet online ’cause it’s on a really good deal for Black Friday.
A toilet.
We’ve arrived.
Thats the best gift. I wish my wife would gove me a toilet but noooooo I get new socks.
Please say it’s a Ferguson, Al.
What’s so strange about that? I ordered my current toilet online. It’s got to be the best one I’ve ever owned.*
*Sample size – two toilets.

Omelette rolls…
this seems like a feel-good story.
cooked a NY strip for dinner and reached the conclusion 165 grams is the optimal size for a steak. Are we all in agreement?
Also the other half of the wine bottle i opened yesterday for the duck breast also worked with beef.
“the conclusion 165 grams is the optimal size for a steak”
If you’re a dainty lady.
Meh. It’s not for me to judge what people put in their mouths. Unless it’s underage, of course.
I always wondered if I could cut it as a professional food critic.
So, no veal?
” Unless it’s underage”
Oh, I see this “Libertarian” is all about age of consent laws.
gtfo, slaver.
I said nothing about laws. I just think steak should be at least 30 days old.
So you prefer to wait until the blowfly larvae have eaten their fill and gone off to pupate.
“Meh. It’s not for me to judge what people put in their mouths. Unless it’s underage, of course.”
*Looks around nervously after reading the other replies*
So I’m the only one that first read this and assumed it was about oral sex with children? Well. that’s a pretty negative strike on me…
In keeping with MikeS’ link below, it was about oral sex with children.
But I obtusely rerouted the point-of-view after being called a *sobs* slaver.
SWISH!
I’ll show myself out now.
Oh, and glad you’re recovering nicely.
A tad short of six ounces… yes, that is a good size.
If there’s no waste, mebbe. You normally need eight ounces or more to compensate for the usual inedible parts, like gristle, silverskin, etc.
i was mostly joking about the size, but in this case there was 0 waste. All of it was quite edible. Off course some fat was lost. I did the thing where i really heated the cast iron pan and started the steak on the fatty edge, and when the fat was good and rendered I used the resulting grease for the rest of the steak. Did not add anything to the pan, just some salt and peeper on the steak after it was cooked,
Yeah, I mostly eat tenderloin cuz I don’t like all the gristle and stuff so that was my measuring stick.
Apparently you don’t click my steak & gun pics.
Strongly disagree.
No. Even if we accepted metric measures, that is a TINY steak.
It’s barely a hamburger ? size.
Nah, burgers should be 8 oz.
Don’t discount sliders.
And come with a side of statin fries, by golly.
Ugh that’s too much burger for me. I guess I don’t like big portions.
“I guess I don’t like big portions.”
What is something Winston’s Mom has never said?
Completely off topic: Morgan James having a bit of fun singing with “The Skivvies” (I recommend reading the comments after listening to the medley).
Oops! – I forgot to mention that the link leads to performers wearing only underwear, thus probably NSFW.
Dear lord; This Thanksgiving I am most thankful for Charles Easterly’s links. Amen.
Morgan is a talented and pretty lady, but she’s also better than this!
“Morgan is a talented and pretty lady, but she’s also better than this!”
I agree CJ.
Absolutely gorgeous.
And she’s pretty, too.
Heresy
In a Twitter thread taking aim at Buttigieg’s comments on Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez wrote: “This is a GOP talking point used to dismantle public systems, & it’s sad to see a Dem candidate adopt it.”
“Let’s talk about why Republicans are wrong on this. Just like rich kids can attend public school, they should be able to attend tuition-free public college. Here’s why,” she continued. “Universal public systems are designed to benefit EVERYBODY! Everyone contributes & everyone enjoys. We don’t ban the rich from public schools, firefighters, or libraries bc they are public goods.”
“Universal systems that benefit everyone are stronger bc everyone’s invested!” the freshman progressive lawmaker went on, adding a third reason: “When you start carving people out & adding asterisks to who can benefit from goods that should be available to all, cracks in the system develop.”
Assimilate or be exterminated.
Everyone contributes & everyone enjoys. We don’t ban the rich from public schools, firefighters, or libraries bc they are public goods.”
Everyone enjoys?
Also none of those things are public goods.

‘Teacher of the Year’ Randi Chaverria allegedly gave student oral sex in classroom
The five male judges who awarded her the title only smiled and said “no comment”.
She deserved the award. She was willing to do whatever it takes to engage the students and get them excited about school.
Plus her name’s “Randi”. C’mon!
Fun fact: all teacher’s named Randi are sex-crazed smokes
That’s pretty mean
That lesson was an erective, not prerequisite.
I get this weird dissonnance when I see a headline about the Commie Pope praising religious freedom. Somehow I don’t think he’s talking about ending persecution of christians in certain non-christian areas. Part of the Pope’s job description is to defend and advocate the catholic faith. He isn’t doing it right.
+ 2 Pope Urbans
Hrmm… if a Pope and Antipope collide, is there an explosion, or do they just vanish in a puff of logic?
They come together to form a Megapope
I think Commie Pope is going to go down as a disaster for the RC Church. One of the best things they had going for them is that Roman Catholicism had an incredibly rich intellectual tradition and intellectual framework to fall back on. Commie Pope seems eager to abandon that tradition and framework to appeal to a popular culture that isn’t particularly friendly to Catholic teaching, to say the least. That might be a viable practical alternative if it was drawing people to their churches. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case. He may be liked by the cosmopolitan progressives that represent pop culture, but not enough that they’re actually going to start going to Catholic masses.
The strongest appeal a lot of chruches had, despite declining numbers, was the sense of tradition and moral authority. Those that chase pop culture end up not fulfilling any need for parishoners and tend to shed attendence even faster.
The strongest appeal a lot of chruches had, despite declining numbers, was the sense of tradition and moral authority
Well, it’s not exactly surprising that, while overall church attendance is declining, evangelical churches have seen rising attendance. The Babylon Bee even had a funny commentary about the topic.
Should have been CO or TX. Portland is too areligious for that.
There was some huge kerfuffle in Catholic circles recently about the Pope giving his blessing to pagan symbols of some weird sect at the Vatican. As in, very highly-placed bishops sending him a strongly-worded letter about it. There’s a lot of dissent there that isn’t being reported.
If I remember correctly, the socialist government of one of the smaller South American countries was pushing this pagan goddess on their people as a ‘cultural symbol’ of the nation. Commie Pope had an icon of this pagan goddess brought in for the Amazon Synod, and the faithful of Rome chucked it in the Tiber. Then the socialists got voted out, the incoming government’s first statement included the line “No more [pagangoddess]” which was met with cheers.
I may be forgetting a few things.
Yep, that’s it. More here.
And linked off of that was the Bolivian political stuff I was trying to recall.
The obstacles to evangelization include the difficult terrain that makes native populations hard to reach,[2] the great variety of languages spoken, and the resistance of landowners and business interests.
Oh really? Or obstacles to their socialist economic theories?
Some sneak peaks for My next submission for Salon.com:
Amazon, Black Friday perpetuate Christian Cultural Hegemony
So… the dipshit doesn’t realize that Christmas is an appropriated Pagan holiday that was too popular to kill?
The Puritans tried to cancel christmas during Cromwell’s reigns. Led to a farce of packs of puritans going around forcing shops to open, and packs of regular people forcing shops to close.
He’s thankful, at least, that he has so much to complain about.
So… the dipshit
Given the context, i’m taking this as a compliment.
You’re overqualified to work for Salon. Mebbe Vox?
I’d like to see the writer condemn consumption by the government.
I do all the time, just not when i write for Salon.
People love sales. I’m sure everyone
would love a Ramadan sale. I love how the same people who bitch about income inequality, bitch about consumerism and materiality.
Don’t know ’bout ya’ll, but I’m standing down by the door trying to catch the grey men when they dive from the fourteenth floor.
You’re gonna make Hayek Explode.
So on this Black Friday, embrace the true meaning of solidarity with your fellow worker and throw off the chains of consumer servitude.
Bomb a shopping mall? Run a UPS truck off the road? Get sushi and not pay?
How’s not buying stuff gone help workers, again?
Clearly it’ll convince the greedy stores to pay them a living wage.
Also, I thought they loved wealth redistribution. What do they think Christmas is?
