Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas and what a glorious morning it is as the corporate leftwing media is regurgitating Democrats’ alarmist talking points in an attempt to get the public worked up over the Trump admin’s refusal to assist in their obvious witch hunt. It’s like the Obama administration all over again but in reverse. Meanwhile the public seems concerned over less serious issues like their medical care.
More hilarious political switcheroos. If it wasn’t for double standards, no one in Washington would have standards at all.
I’d call this a good start. More on the home where the glorious cache was found.
I’d also call this a good start.
Couple dies of bubonic plague after eating the raw liver of a marmot.
Couple must pay $600,000 for oak tree they removed from property, guess which state?
That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.
To a collection, the removal and destruction of which is a tragedy.
Speaking of which, I received my M&P Shield 9mm yesterday Haven’t fired it yet, but I definitely like the it fits my hand, particularly with the 8 round magazine.
Let us know how it shoots when you get the chance to try it.
I picked up mine last Saturday, and it shoots fine. The grip is very oval which makes trigger control more important than flatter-fronted grips. The sights are very easy to use in daylight. The slide release is kind of stiff, but if you close it by re-racking it after a mag change it shouldn’t bother anyone.
Great gun for the money, I didn’t like it as much as a Sig P365 or a Glock 27 — but it’s less than half the price of those two.
Let me know if you find a holster you like. I’m on the constant hunt for something better and more comfortable.
This is what I use with my Shield.

I carry mine in a Bravo Concealment iwb. Love it.
Gah, they only have it in right hand.
This is what I use

It’s for open carry, but they do have a lot of other varieties.
I carry my M&P9c in a Concealco. Fantastic holster for the gun. Seeing as how the Shield is the same design, but slimmer, I’d highly recommend them.
I had thought they were out of business (they were for several years), but apparently they reopened. Their design is comfortable and helps tuck the butt of the pistol in to minimize printing.
https://www.facebook.com/AKJConcealco/
I wear mine for ~10 hours a day. No problem.
Meh. ‘Collection’ implies some common theme or selection. That’s a hoarder who happens to be into guns rather than old NatGeos…
Or cats.
I looked at Zillow, and there is a house there going for $150,000,000

Surprised the marmot story wasn’t linked as ” a good start”.
But the rodent managed to kill two people, putting the rodent army ahead on the attritional count.
We have the “Lemming Protical”, just in case.
It’s also twice the number of people Ted Kennedy killed. At least that we know about.
Don’t say anything to marmot time reading the links!
Look, we’re not supposed to pick on the cultural traditions of people who don’t realize it’s a bad idea to scarf down the bloody guts of a pestilence.
play stupid games, something something, prizes.
So that rat intestine smoothie wasn’t a good idea to start a cleanse?
What difference, at that point, would it make?
You got the black death either way.
I always cook my rodent derived organ meats before I consume them so I’m good.
Are you calling them mongoloid idiots?
Calm down, former Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
It’s not so bad I thought it was Americans from DC it’s just Mongolia I don’t really understand how this is a news story.
The executive privilege fight and the subpoena barrage are not the only areas where Trump is challenging presidential power.
He is personally suing a congressional committee to stop the handover of his financial records. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin made his own evaluation of the extent of congressional power by refusing to hand over Trump’s tax returns.
The administration ordered former White House counsel Don McGahn on Tuesday not to honor a subpoena to hand over documents pertinent to the Russia investigation. Multiple subpoenas and requests for documents from other committees are being ignored.
A new seam of conflict opened up on Wednesday when House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, issued yet another subpoena to Barr for all foreign intelligence and counterintelligence materials produced during the Mueller investigation after repeated previous requests fell on deaf ears.
It’s been a good run, but now it’s over. Trump will dissolve Congress in a tweet, and declare himself CEO of Trump’s America, llc.
LLC?! NEVER! I must be “Inc.”

Then we could be just like Europe

“He is personally suing a congressional committee to stop the handover of his financial records. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin made his own evaluation of the extent of congressional power by refusing to hand over Trump’s tax returns.”
The horror, what individual wouldn’t be willing to let how enemies get their hands on his tax returns.
It’s not like members of Congress have been known to release fallacious information regarding politicians’ tax returns.
/Reid
how enemies
I didn’t realize that Lizzie Warren was on the war path.
She’s really been beating the drum as of late.
So, in all seriousness, I’m trying to filter through the politicization here and get to the crux of the matter. Am I understanding this correctly? Members of Congress are trying to subpoena Trump to disclose his tax filings from prior to his election to just kinda look at them, and he’s saying, “No.” Because there’s no specific crime being investigated here, which is why it’s Congress issuing subpoenas and not, say, the IRS or the DOJ?
Also, am I the only person who thinks Congress should not have the power to issue subpoenas to satisfy its collective curiosity or berate people on television?
Not at all. I agree with you.
This is all taxpayer funded political opposition research and distraction from DNC shenanagins.
They are also trying to set up the public to believe that when indictments come out for Coney metal that it is simply political retaliation and raise a hue and cry from Democrats.
Trump will dissolve Congress in a tweet
I lol’d. And I don’t see why not since he apparently “obstructed” justice via tweet.
Needs more ammo. That is not a stockpile, just the results of a good sale at the local Cabela’s
Yep. Hoarder.

The Media is acting like an AG had never been held in contempt before. I can understand the frustrations, but let’s not act like it’s unique to Trump.
The AG is only legitimately in contempt when the president is team red.
Er, it all BEGAN with Trump.
All of it. Whatever.
Rape. Racism. Hate. Murder. Illiteracy. Immigration. Big Bang Theory.
You name it.
1. America was marching toward the End of History and paradise
2. Trump was elected
3. The world came to an end
My allergies are worse this year than they’ve ever been. I don’t have asthma, but I think this is what asthma is like. Plus joint aches, a sore throat, wheezy cough, and general malaise.
The way I see it, I’ve got two options:
1. Blame climate change.
2. Understand that this is the reality of life in Trump’s America.
I figure it’s the reality of life with Trum’s climate change.
*Trump’s*
I hate myself sometimes.
I could go for the trifecta and add something about the 1%, but I can’t work the angle out yet.
Sorry, I can’t read this because of the end of net neutrality. Besides, the tax cuts killed me.
:Holder hides behind Nadler’s skirts and makes silly faces at the Electorate:
What are the odds that he joins the Democrat clown car for the 2020 election?
Interesting. He’d really be running for the veep slot, of course. His best chance is for Klobuchar or Warren to get the nom.
Um…I thought it was well known that everything questionable or bad started and ends with Trump.
This seemed to become STOP during the GHWB presidency in my recollection.
“I can understand the frustrations…”
Me too. They spent every ounce of energy they had trying to gaslight America by shrieking about Russia Russia Russia with the most ridiculous, over the top accusations possible for nearly three years and in the end it is exposed as a complete fraud. Now they switch gears to gaslight us with a new accusation equally ridiculous and find that they have no credibility. That must be frustrating.

“Because you are bald-faced liars? Because you are incapable of telling the truth?”

Notice that CNN quoted all Democrats and not 1 Republican in their unbiased and balanced report.
They announced layoffs of 200 yesterday so I guess they might be understaffed to interview both sides.
I wonder if there is a connection.
Also he is being held in contempt because he won’t break the law.
Something that Team Stupid needs to focus/message on.
Mornin’ great songs this week.
Man, I’d be so pissed to see my collection being thrown randomly onto blankets. Those are high end guns and the pigs are dinging and denting them all over. I’d be furious! It’s maximum disrespect, not just to the owner, but to the guns themselves.

At some point you have to connect dots. See patterns.
Damn. Good for them.
You mean people actually affected by a tragedy might be sickened if you jump on it for your own political reasons.
I can’t believe that this was reported. “Too Local!” sniffs CNN.
Meanwhile CNN focuses on the “momentum goings on” inside DC that no one else cares about.
Shocked that I hard this on NYC’s AM news radio this morning.
Not known for playing it straight they actually reported the story straight – that people were pissed that politicians decided to use this opportunity to advocate for gun control.
I was shocked.

Goddamn, that really puts a spring in my step. Very perceptive and admirable of them to restore their heroic classmate to the proper place of focus.

Also, from CNN:
But while Washington is consumed by the confrontation, polls and anecdotal evidence suggest indifference among many Americans about the momentous goings-on in Washington, which so far are not resonating much outside the capital.
Whycome them hicks no run around with hairs on fire?
“momentous goings-on in Washington”
We’re totally not a propaganda outlet..
I in any event reserve the right to learn over a 20-year period,” Nadler said.
Dude, you need to start exercising your rights.
Jerry Nadler is also the asshat that has been lobbying for equating self-identified gender with sex in regards to discrimination law.
Does he reserve the right to change his mind again when it happens to Obama…
Does he give any reasoning why he was wrong before?
This is what kills me. People absolutely change their minds legitimately. You should, when you encounter new, better information, or through thoughtful consideration and maybe even earnest discussion arrive at a different conclusion. But when it always seems to happen when in conjunction with your preferred candidate losing an election, I start to question your sincerity.
Culinary question – What type of extant modern fish sauce is closest to Garum?
Napalm?
Winston’s Mom’s discharge after a convention?
I suppose it’d be some kind of garlic sauce. Still, if it’s fresh fish, you don’t need any sauce. *A Dash of soy sauce excepted.
Fish sauce as in sauce made from fish, not sauce for fish.
English. *SMDH* Sauce for Fish would be a good beer name.
Band name too (think about it…)
Sounds more like an album.
Garum was made of fish. Like Vietnamese fish sauce but… even less sanitary.
Quick google gave me this: Do you not realize that garum sociorum, that expensive bloody mass of decayed fish, consumes the stomach with its salted putrefaction?
— Seneca, Epistle 95.
I’m kind of curious what UCS is up to.
Writing.
He certainly not eating that.
Make bank on it.
Garum is believed to be the ancestor of the fermented anchovy sauce colatura di alici, still produced in Campania, Italy.
Ancestor of, but that doesn’t mean they taste anything alike.
*Not to say that this might not be the correct answer to the original question, but the phrasing on the wiki page made me question.
colatura di alici
In that list it’s showing “Red Boat Fish Sauce” lower down the page. I saw that brand in the Asian Grocery* and it brought the question back into my head.
*Don’t blame me, that’s the actual name of the busines.
Anchovy sauce like this stuff:

The fine of $586,000 will go toward environmental restoration on the property.
I am pretty sure it doesn’t cost that much to plant some trees.
It does if you’re doing all the corresponding paperwork, permits, and fees.
Are you kidding? A city council member has to start a whole company to get the contract for the restoration.
^This. But they are normally not that blatant about it. Brothers-in-law exist for a reason.
And this is not a taking, how exactly?
Granted I didn’t RTA, but a quick scan said something about a conservation easement, so they MAY have signed a contract agreeing that they couldn’t/wouldn’t do it.
Interesting. Did they freely sign it, or were they coerced and given no choice by the government? If they freely signed or bought the property knowing the easement was already in place, then they were just dumbasses.
My money is on either 1) dumbass or 2) rationally violated the easement strategically, knowing or thinking that the violation would increase the property by more than the penalty
Yep. Rich dude up at the lake cut a bunch of trees he wasn’t supposed to because he wanted a better view. State fined him, he wrote the check and enjoyed his improved view.
Conservation easements are usually sold to the state. Often for a crazy amount of money.
California overhauls sex education guidance for teachers
She said as she introduced the new pre-schooler’s guide to anal sex…
“It gives tips for discussing masturbation with middle-schoolers”
“Don’t flush your socks, you little pukes.
I read this just as a Red Hot Chili Peppers song came on.
“OK, everyone open your copy of Teen Vogue and turn to page 3….”
Sure, Jan….
“The guidance approved Wednesday by the California State Board of Education does not require educators to teach anything.”
How is this different from the last 40 years?
They’re more up-front about it?
Middle schoolers like to be told by state employees that masturbating is fine.
the goal is not to cause confusion
Then stick to biology.
“As the parent of three kids, we’re on a careful trajectory here not to be introducing things as though they are endorsed in some way,” board president Linda Darling-Hammond said.
Board President needs a basic course in grammar and sentence construction.
From the link I thought it was talking about a training program to get the teachers to stop fucking their students
Don’t be silly, that rule is simpler “Don’t get caught.”
We need similar alcohol education predicated on the fact that kids are going to drink anyway.
CNN hqs this little tidbit about tyhe “weapons cache”.
ATF spokeswoman Ginger Colbrun said in a written statement that authorities were anonymously tipped off that someone was “conducting illegal firearms transaction outside the scope of the federal firearm license that the individual possess.” Along with the weapons, firearm manufacturing equipment and tools were also found at the home.
If the guy’s a licensed dealer, having a large inventory is not quite so “astonishing” or scary. I’m surprised they put it in the story.
The whole article is written as if we’re supposed to be terrified. “OMG! He had equipment to build weapons!!!”
firearm manufacturing equipment and tools were also found at the home.
I was unaware you needed the State’s permission to own lathes, drills, and reloading benches.
Hell, I built an 80% glock with just a drill, a dremel, and some files. So I guess most homes in the US already have scary “firearm manufacturing equipment”
Of course his right to do all of those things is guaranteed by the constitution, but nobody pays attention to that old thing because it was written like a hundred years ago and is hard to understand.
My Mom’s old flame before she remarried was a collector. Some unsavory people stole one of his handguns and the RCMP were relentless in their persecution of that poor man. He had hundreds of rifles, shotguns, pistols and carbines. Once they caught wind of him it was game over. They used to cruise his house at least twice a day and finally pulled him over on a hopped-up DUI charge. He lost his licence and therefore his business (private contractor). He gave a two week party giving everything away, opened all the windows of his house and offed himself with his favourite pistol. Because I was Mom’s son and a trusted employee, before he did it he asked her to tell me to check in on him a day or so later. That was fun.
Ugh… Sorry to hear about that Festus. My worst ever shift behind the bar was the Sunday morning when the fellow sitting at the end of the bar got up, used the payphone, walked into the men’s room, sat on the commode, and shot himself through the roof of his mouth with a wee .25 semi-auto. He lived long enough for the police and paramedics to arrive. I spent the remainder of the day with the hose, bleach, and several bags of kitty litter instead of making drinks for tip money.
Yikes!
C&R license?
I was just thinking that. I’ve got everything you need to assemble a firearm, including milling out a lower, and I’ve got a C&R, which, technically, makes me an FFL holder.
And I assumed that through the journalistic filter any license issued by the ATF is a federal firearms license not just a full blown FFL.
I’ve explained what the FFL-03 is to non-gun people before and it blows their minds, so I imagine if you’re coming at it from a gun-hostile position it’s basically a license to buy tanks at 7-11 and sell them to mass shooters.
When Bob Hope visited the troops, they have him some tanks for the memories.
So based on an anonymous tip they skip any investigation and go straight to a raid?
It works for drug raids, so hey, why not. Everyone knows guns are even moar dangerouser than drugs.
It’s a good thing Disney still has the MCU (until they kill it), They’re investment in Vice Media didn’t pay off.
A cynic might think the Disney investment is what killed it.
MCU’s death will be even quicker and more brutal than Star Wars’.
The Faaaabulous Spider-Tran
Hey, he’s already got the colourful tights and super bukkake powers…
No, I don’t think Tran ever had Spider powers.
Disney has owned the MCU for a while and have done well with it. Star Wars was less the fault of Disney than of whom they put to direct it.
I think Fiege is more the man behind the MCU then anyone else at Disney, but then you see stories like this which make me worried how woke Fiege thinks he needs to go. There are plenty of gay/bi/mutant/alien/non-binary characters from the comics, there’s no need to start changing the existing ones to fit those molds.
It is heartening to see more places talk about the eye rolling GIRL POWER scene in Endgame in a negative way.
I get the impression that the people who want to make a popular character into something they are not are only interested in tearing down what others enjoy and shitting on the remains. The strategy is irrelevent to the ends, as they go after whatever opening is available. “Representation” being a bogus target. If it really mattered, they’d want good stories and complete characters, not the random metamorphosis of an existing popular character in a way that makes no sense.
When I saw that it immediately registered in my head as “of course, the feminist legion is going to save the day”
Combined with what came after, it basically felt like endgame was the end of the evil patriarchy so we can usher in a new era of all female saviors.
I was very happy to see then end of a certain TOP-MEN worshipping, self-righteous, “if you only did what the government told you to do everything would be fine,” FOR THE CHILDREN-motivated character.
Yes, but it seemed like it was done in order to basically “transition” that particular characters gender, who would certainly carry on that philosophy.
Isn’t he the… creative force behind stunning and brave and (so funny!) Wokebusters?
Different person. MCU is Kevin Fiege, the new Ghostbusters was Paul Feig.
Once a company reaches the point that they start acquiring more value by buying up existing firms/services/properties than from creating new things is when that company turns towards the dark side.
Unfortunately this is also when investors seem to fall in love with their stocks.
When R&D is M&A, you know the company is serious about maximizing profits.
/Investor
>>The company, which began as a hipster music and lifestyle magazine, drew investments from some of the biggest names in the media industry under the direction of co-founder Shane Smith, who stepped down from daily operations last year. At one point the business was valued at $5.7 billion.
$5.7B for Vice? Who’s been smoking the crack again? It was an alternative media outlet, mostly famous for fashion Do’s or Dont’s, along with some interesting drug articles, etc. It read more like an underground weekly than anything serious. It’s like saying that Maximum Rock ‘n’ Roll is worth $3B.
I can’t wait for the Glibs IPO.
I first read that as the Glibs IPA.
I think an 1800’s British Mild (XX or XXXX) is more likely for a first collaboration of the brewers here.
Or a Solera, but that would require some coordination.
XXXX. If it aint 10%, we dont need to do it!

Shut up about Barclay Perkins isnt just about mild recipes, today his article is on War, taxes, and porter at the turn of the century.
And then turn is from 1700s to 1800s.
I need someone to convert British money units into something I undersand.
Potato/potatoe
Neph,
Not to rehash the Spidey thing, but I did want to clarify that my beef wasn’t with the concept, but the execution. Yes, Parker is a kid. Yes he’s doing discovery. But the character is about the joy of being young, strong and alive. Not pratfalls. The dude had the highest agility stat in the MSH version of The Avengers. Him leaping off a cargo container and faceplanting because his suit defaults to “rapid fire” belongs in a Three Stooges routine — or MCU Thor.
I get where your coming from, and have no issue with it. Hell, I could sit down and talk comics and beer all day long and none of it would be taken personally at all. My one defense of that is notice he never had an issue in the suit he made for himself, and while Tony is smart, he’s also egotistical to a fault. Tony would have designed it to what he thought was the best Peter could do, which would be just below what Tony would think is possible for himself.
So you understand my undying, painful yearning for a Beta-Ray Bill movie?
Who do you want cast in the lead? John Kerry or Sarah Jessica Parker?
Of those two? Parker. She can kinda-sorta act, and with enough appliances and CG she could pull it off. Seriously, I think Duane ‘The Rock’ Johnson would be great in the role.
When I read that, I was thinking a massive billet of metallic lead with the individual in question encased within.
I do, and I’m sure you’re aware that Beta-Ray Bill exists in the MCU already. Check out the heads in Ragnarok.
I’m actually a bit curious to see what the MCU does with Mutants and the Fantastic Four available to them. And that the trailer for Far From Home may have folded Into the Spiderverse into the MCU. I’d like to see more street level heroes, so you can have jokes with Spidey and Daredevil sitting at the top of a skyscraper watching a fight that has the Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four going against someone and saying, “Think we should go down there and help?”
“If they’re in that much trouble, how much help can we provide?”
Also, because I’m feeling generous, I give you the simple 2 step plan to quickly improve the DCU movies – bring in Batmite and Mister Mxyzptlk.
What the DCU movies need is Grant Morrison. Just let him have the whole thing and let him go nuts.
We have the Viceland channel on our Sling subscription. I’ve mostly ignored the channel until recently. Watched the Beerland series about home brewers and found it enjoyable.
Good lord that CNN article is a piece of work. These dishonest fucks are aiming to incite (more…) sustained political violence.
Imagine the cratering of their ratings if Trump isn’t re elected. They are the ultimate free riders.
Bread meet butter.
I was unaware you needed the State’s permission to own lathes, drills, and reloading benches.
It’s a neighborhood. With CHILDRUNZ!
The report I heard this morning is that the guy was selling those guns out of his house sans lisence or records. That is what they got him for. If he had just sat on the damned things nothing would have happened.
Good lord what I wouldn’t give to have my pick of them.
Is that a Colt Python in the revolver pile?
There are about four of them in that image
Yeah, I see some pieces that would be nice in my collection.
Socks’n’sandals: how the faux pas went mainstream
No.
and like you have shoved on the first shoes by the door to bring your shopping in.
Huh? You don’t use a genkan.
Your “mansion” doesn’t have the shoe closet off to the side?
I do here. Who outside of Asia takes their shoes off? It’s a great custom and I’d bring it with me if I ever go back, but I’ve never seen it in the US.
They didn’t in Wisconsin? You didn’t have mud room where you ditched your boots and put on house shoes?
My wife is a FANATIC about no shoes in the house. It’s not the way I was raised, so I have never completely gotten used to it.
I don’t get it, why does she prefer foot injuries?
What I find amusing is that the dog runs all through the yard, street, etc, and then runs right into the house, but let a person do that and she blows her top.
You need to learn to pick up your caltrops when you’re done playing with them.
I lost a toenail to a dropped dinner plate. It grew back, but I’m not leaving my feet defenseless.
This is why a pair of house shoes or slippers is mandatory.
I wasn’t either. But I’ve gotten used to it.
When the wife is right, she’s right.
A surprising number of people I know have a “shoes off” policy in the house.
No surprise my Taiwanese neighbors and my son’s Japanese friend’s house also have a no shoes policy.
They never asked me to pull my shoes off, but smiled when I did so after I saw the piles of shoes at the entryway. Even handed me a pair of slippers!
The correct answer is “lots and lots of people, but it isn’t a cultural expectation and it’s a bit rude to make a federal case out of it if a visitor doesn’t”.
Pretty much this in my experience.
*nods in agreement*
I’ve noticed its more of a northern thing. Snowsoaked boots + carpet = a mess.
*shrugs*
Always been my policy.
Lots of people in Europe do this too. It makes sense. In the old days when you were working in the fields you didn’t want to bring all that mud into the house.
What’s next? Pink flamingos and reflective orbs in the lawn?
/Cleveland area joke
This is the difference between a fad and a convention. Doing stuff ironically is fine if you’re a 20-something hipster who wants to make a joke, but just as you wouldn’t wear a Halloween costume every day of the year you don’t make yourself a living sight-gag just to follow a brief trend.
Also, fashion rules, for lack of a better word, exist for a reason. Wearing socks and sandals is a sign saying that a.) you’re confused, or b.) you don’t know how to dress yourself, or c.) you don’t own adequate footwear. If you’re Jay-Z or David Beckham you can get away with wearing flip-flops and a suit because, as you’re famous and famously wealthy, people assume you’re doing it for a good reason. If you’re some random, scruffy hipster, people assume you’re doing it because you’re an idiot.
*sigh*
I’ll never understand high fashion
STEVE SMITH LIKE FUR SUIT BEST. OR WEARING HIKER BODY FOR EXTRA WARMTH.
AND BY “WEARING” MEAN…
Think of it as art for rich assholes with no real hobbies.
Or you could just think of it as the best scam ever perpetuated on the wealthy.
It’s an expensive hobby, but that alone wouldn’t make someone an asshole.
Its easy. High fashion is like competition barbeque.
In comps, you have 1) formalized (calcified, really) aesthetic limits (e.g., has to be served on an ugly bed of parsley, has to conform to preconceived notions of shape and color) and the “judges” are going to be saturated with barbecue and will only take one passing bite of the food. So the food has to be an explosion of flavor to stand out.
The problem is that good actual barbeque is a balance of sweet, salty, smokey, but most importantly fatty flavor. smoke and fat are slow to develop. Sweet and salt, on the other hand, are fast, bold, in your face flavors. So you get, basically, candied meat that is so overpowering your one little nibble of it will stand out.
It won’t be –good– but it will stand out.
High fashion is like that. It trades on novelty, breaking of convention, and imperfection to stand out from the crowd because high-fashion is only really consumed in an environment of high fashion (ie in magazines/instagram; shows; or women trying to 1 up each other). Rarely, at it’s best, it has the same effect as Wabi-sabi. Cindy Crawfor’s mole is an example. But Sturgeon’s Law applies, so most of the time you just get rule-breaking for rule-breaking sake. When the rules being broken are the rules of good design, it just looks like shit.
Then it gets praised by people who either don’t know the rules of good design, or make an ostentatious show of rejecting them to demonstrate their membership-in-good-standing with the art world.
Actual fashion is fairly easy once you know the rules. Proportion and curves on women, with highlighting on the portions of the body closest to the ideal. Proportion and straight lines on men, with highlighting in the center. Adjacent pattern frequencies must be different. Adjacent colors must be off-shades or very different, never close. That’s about it.
Beer comps are similar. It is hard for subtle to do well. No wait, subtle can do fine at the style level, but when you start talking best of show, you need some over the top flavors, especially considering the judges are probably drunk at that point. Boozy wins out.
My hefeweizen regularly won competitions. In fact, it never finished below another hefe. When it lost (2nd is the worst it ever did) in wheat categories, it was ALWAYS to a Weizenbock (higher alcohol wheat beer).
That said, it never placed in the finals, because big stouts and big IPAs and sour beers stood out more.
Wow, that’s a really good summation. I’d add that fit is important. Cheap clothes that fit well look better than expensive clothes that are too tight or too loose.
If I remember correctly the marmot in asia is the original source of the BP. Furriners unfamiliar with the critter are the ones who brought the plague back to Europe.
The mongols, after suffering several bouts of devastating plague, developed a few cultural taboos, mores and superstitions regarding the marmot to avoid the BP. Marmots and the areas where they live are strictly verboten. What the hell was this couple doing eating one? I guess some people listen to Grandaddy, other people learn the hard way.
Failed cult.
They are often called Rock Chucks out west, and so you have Rock Chuck Bullet Swage company, now known as RCBS.
I guessed New York, what do I lose?
All of your SS contributions.
Pretty good guess. In NYC, if you damage a city tree the fine levied is $100 for every ring in the trunk.
So if you damage a tree the city has to cut down, and thus fully kill, said tree just to determine the amount of your fine?
That seems…spiteful?
It’s not about the tree, it’s about the revenue.
Yes and yes. There is a subway station on Eastern Parkway that underwent remodeling about 15 years ago. The contractor hit this tree with a large piece of machinery. The city was going to fine them some obscene amount but the contractor’s insurer put up a Hell of a fight. The result was a drastically reduced fine and an absurd act of remediation. The painting is new, it was just bare concrete when I lived nearby.
If they don’t cut the tree, how can they charge you for killing it?
Florida man accused of torturing child while wearing werewolf mask has died
Suicide or murder? ::shrugs::
“Some men need killin'”
Accused, but I have to ask if there was proof. I can see routes for both guilty and innocent people to end up in that noose.
I’m good with at least two sources of video evidence.
Dooooooooooon’t carrrrrrrrrrrrrre.

Isn’t every dog fucker a dog rapist?

You’d have to convene a star chamber and only get the dog’s side of the story.
I have the victim statement here.
And I quote: “Woof”.
Did you see what she was wearing though?
I thought the bitch was saying she wanted it rough.
I’m sorry. The correct answer is: “The bitch set me up!”
The way he wags his tail, he was asking for it.
If a dog humps your leg, how is that not consent?
Knot necessarily.
Will they protest in support of the guy because ‘white patriarchy’?
Yet the crazy Irish antique dealer who played red rocket with his dog is immortalized in song. “Knick knack paddy whacko gives the dog a boner”
Is there no end to this racism?
Little troopers: Russian children as young as four are taught marching in military uniforms as Putin’s ‘youth army’ tops half a million
So cute /OMWC
Looks like they are carrying toy M-16s. Why not AK’s?
‘youth army’
You know who else?
Charles Taylor?
Carried toy M-16’s? Well, G.I. Joe of course.
The M-16’s are Putins gift to the anti-gun mob here. I’m sure at some point the gun grabbers will relabel these pics as “NRA Training”.
Gives the gun controllers more ammo to gin up fear about AR-15’s.
Shouldn’t there be a comma between Germany and which or offers should be in past tense?
Also, why would critics compare Yunarmia with Hitlerjugend? Would it not be a more apt analogy to use the Soviet’s Young Pioneers?
Journalists are morons and/or they never miss an opportunity to “Zomg Hitler!”.
Even up here in the frozen white wastelands we dutifully bundled up to raise the flag, sing the anthem and then when we got back into class their was a bible reading and we’d recite the Lord’s Prayer. This was 1970 or so and granted, it was a back-ward little town but it was a Public school. Still had the strap, too *ouch*.
This has to be Trump’s fault somehow.
Funny how they’re compared to Hitler Youth, rather than Young Pioneers given they’re in Russia.
No kidding. My wife learned how to throw grenades in PE growing up in Czechoslovakia. Well, they didn’t call them grenades, but they were the shape and size of a grenade and they had to throw them into a certain area about the size of a foxhole. And then there was the marching in the May Day parades.

CNN headline that I won’t link to prevent the clicks…
“Is American democracy on the brink?”
You’ve got market capture through the regulatory state and lobbyists in the billions. But I’m guessing CNN is worried about a few FB posts.
Curiously, I didn’t notice the words “Eric Holder” in that article…..
They are desperate, frantic and clueless that they have zero credibility with the majority of the public.
It is going to be even more entertaining in the runup to the election. I cant imagine what it will be like after Trump wins.
Their soft coup failed miserably. Eventually they will get to the point of actively trying a hard coup. That will be interesting.
There might be so much infighting that they forget what the original purpose of this theater was about. Fuck the popcorn, I’m shorting Twizzler stock.
The local drug store has a movie candy section where you can buy movie theater style boxes of Junior Mints. I’m gonna buy a gross and stick ’em in the freezer for the next election.
Boxes that contain a bag of candy inside that only fills 20% of the volume of the box?
But they are 100% bigger and 150% cost. Value!
they blew their load with collusion over the past two years. and their ratings are showing the damage. advertisers social signaling by buying time at CNN should be fired for failing their fiduciary duty.

The second suspect in the Colorado school shooting was listed in court records as 16-year-old female, but identifies as a male and prefers to be called Alec.
Extenuating circumstances, Your Honor. It wuz Trump what drove
herit to it.I’m sorry, we should care about the pronouns this murdering piece of shit prefers because….why, exactly?
Otherwise you’re a bigot. Clearly it killed because of being misgendered.
Justifiable homicide.

“You’re just a dumb suburban Punk, just like me!”
“Yeah, but….it…still hurts!”
One of the best movies ever.
Misgendering is literally genocide.
Should go by “Alex“. It goes both ways.
The authorities towed his/her car away from home the other day, for inspection purposes I guess. On the side was spray-painted “Fuck society.” I listened to The Smiths in high school, too, but it never occurred to me to shoot anyone.

Battlefield Archaeology: The armoured beasts of WW2 in the largest open-air museum in the world

That’s interesting. In a similar vein, here’s an article about Syrian rebels using Sturmgewehr 44s in combat:
https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/meet-sturmgewehr-44-nazi-assault-rifle-being-used-syrian-civil-war-46602
You know, for all the killing they do of each other, you’d think people in that region would do more weapon development.
I remember listening to a podcast (Dan Carlin maybe?) that talked about how the Arab light cavalry was a world power until firearms came along. Once infantry could deal with mobile attackers in an efficient way, the armies of the Mideast were no longer much of a factor. But they couldn’t bring themselves to adapt to the new reality and have been a non-factor since.
Neat.
Cool. Panzer Mk IVs and Stugs and shit.
A damper on things
North Korea fired two short-range missiles on Thursday, according to South Korean military, as the U.S. responded with an intercontinental ballistic missile test of their own just 10 minutes later.
The launch, the second such move in less than a week, occurred around 4:30 p.m. local time from the North’s Sino-ri missile base, the South’s joint chiefs of staff said in a statement. The base is located around 130 miles north of the border with South Korea. The missiles flew 260 and 170 miles respectively, according to South Korean military officials. The U.S. insisted the timing of their own test was entirely coincidental.
The base is believed to operate Rodong short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, according to the New York Times.
The firing comes five days after the North launched a barrage of short-range projectiles from its east coast. Through its state media, the North described the earlier firing as a “defense units” test of its rocket launchers and tactical guided weapons.
Thursday’s firing comes as Trump’s negotiator for North Korea, Stephen Biegun, visits Japan and South Korea to discuss North Korean denuclearization efforts.
Meh. Korean missire so small…
Speaking of Vice:
Meet the Black Anime Cosplayers Blowing Up on Instagram
I prefer my cosplayers with less clothes. Way to fail, Vice.
I don’t call it the Democratic People’s Republic of Commiefornistan for nothing.
The California Assembly on Monday advanced a bill to add school faculty, employers and co-workers to the list of people who can ask a judge to take away someone’s guns.
The measure, AB 61, passed the Assembly in a Democrat-heavy 54-16 vote and now heads to the state Senate. It would greatly expand who can file for a Gun Violence Restraining Order in the state under California’s so-called “red flag law.”
Adopted in 2014, the current law allows the seizure of firearms– for up to 21 days– from an otherwise legal gun owner who is believed to pose a “significant danger.” This initial order could be extended for as long as a year if the situation warrants while filing a false petition is a misdemeanor offense. As it stands, just law enforcement and immediate family can seek such an order. AB 61 would expand this to include school employees such as guidance counselors and teachers as well as the employers and co-workers of a subject.
Second Amendment groups such as the Firearms Policy Coalition and Gun Owners of California, who have long felt the orders were a dangerous pathway to gun confiscation without delivering any promise of treatment for someone in legitimate crisis, are opposed to the expansion.
I thought there was already a registry in Cali.
This is why the correct answer to “do you own guns?” is always “no”
Then they will ask to make it a criminal offense to lie to school administrators and staff.
Amazingly, no, there isn’t. I’m sure the fuckers are working on it though.
I spy with my little eye a… PYTHON!
Seriously, I love Colt DA revolvers.
Gajjhhh!
My boss is great, but right now I’m frustrated, because the last three days we’ve had the same discussion over work. I don’t know where we are miscommunicating but we come out with an agreement and then the next day I come back and he’s asking for what I thought we had clearly agreed not to do.
Send a confirmatory email after your meeting with your understanding of the expectations. I do that all the time because that sort of thing happens regularly to me.
Yeah, it is a dick move, but sounds like it is required. He had his chance to wear big boy pants. He failed. Now you need to do the equivalent of pinning a note onto his shirt for the adults to read.
Shit in his desk.
So a report on how the colonoscopy went yesterday.
I had a very cute nurse who walked me through the patient intake process. Then she rolled me back into the room where the procedure was going to happen. As she was hooking me up to the various equipment, I swear she was sort of flirting with me. Not the best time to be flirted with, but as an old, fat guy I’ll take it.
Then she had me roll onto my side and hooked up a few more things. Then she told me “”Don’t worry, at this stage of the procedure it’s quite normal to get an erection,” the nurse told me. “I haven’t got an erection,” I replied.
“No, but I have,” said the nurse.
Are fucking Trans people taking over the world?!?!??
Nominates the Pope’s nurse as The Best Nurse On The Planet.
Hope it went well, even with the erectile disfunction, and all.
Same as all the other ones. They find a few small polyps that aren’t cancerous, but still by their very existence keeps me from getting a 5 year ticket.
Worse, it freaks my wife out and she starts planning my new life (diet, activity, etc.) that will completely cure me. Yesterday on the way home she was telling me about her planned choices and she said “I know what you need to do. I watch a lot of Korean doctor shows and they have some good info on this.”
So I am going to have to be an American guinea pig for Korean science this summer.
And then the anasthesia took over and you woke up with a sore ass? Methinks you may have gotten a different kind of colonoscopy.
Wait till he gets the bill!
Bill, Steve, whatever the nursed named her(his?) thing, Pope already got it.
“You’re going to feel a little prick.”
I think little is exactly what you want to hear in that situation.

Put the lotion away and pull up your pants Mike. My misery is not your masturbatory material!
It’s like I always say, if you can’t tell til the pants come off, she wins.
I think it has something to do with how medical professionals are so desensitized to stuff that the rest of us never see that it can fuck with their sense of propriety. This sounds exactly like an ER nurse I know.
Not sure what the plan is but I’m guessing it will result in people with no credit history or bad credit never being able to get loans.

I think it will be more like the policies that created the housing market disaster.
Yep – more defaults on car / home loans.
Smash the system! Vorwärts!
Is this their plan….

That plan is literally genocide.
I’m sure that won’t have any impact at all on the cost to take out a loan.
“Couple must pay $600,000 for oak tree they removed from property, guess which state?”
Sometimes I think “Land of the Free” should be removed from the national anthem.
Free to follow arcane and often unknown rules. Free to go to prison.
You misheard. It’s “Land of the Fee”.
https://nypost.com/2019/05/08/i-tracked-down-3-men-who-ghosted-me-to-find-out-why/
Woman wonders why men stopped talking to her. Certainly it couldn’t be because she’s a psycho who will hunt you down.
hahahaha. Yeah it’s probably you. The first guy didn’t ghost because in actuality they never actually met. The second guy was clearly having an affair. The third guy was a drunken hookup on a backpacking trail. Every single one of these people didn’t live in the same city or area code as the woman. What a pointless article.
Certainly it couldn’t be because she’s a psycho who will hunt you down.
I only needed to go as far as the byline, “WHIMN”, to figure that one out.
Argh – morale at work is falling and their have been some rounds of “secret” layoffs, I mean restructuring, going on. And corporate decided to remove a member of our already depleted IT department. So the young guy, who used to work production, got cut. Which is too bad since he was an actual geek but actually went out of his way to help people and was a real go-getter.
Unemployment low and the economy is doing well, but the company I work for is hurting pretty bad due to mismanagement.
My last job was like that. During the best times in years for the rest of the Economy, they laid off 10% of their staff. Then it was almost every month that they fired someone. ~60 employees on staff.
Re: Banjo’s Twitter link.
So, an obvious parody account for AOC gets the boot, but a Twitter handle of “Ben Shapiro suck shit” is totes OK? Yep, no bias here.
Anybody who participates in Twitter today assuming they’ll just call balls and strikes in an idiot and deserves everything that comes to them.
more info on that vigil walkout that was politicized by Moms Demand and two Colorado representatives..
https://twitter.com/RealSaavedra/status/1126399492540981248
Moms Demand Action’s Laura Reeves heavily politicizes the STEM School Highlands Ranch vigil:
-Blames NRA
-Demonizes pro-gun politicians
-Advocates working to elect Democrats
-Tells students to register voters, stage walkouts, raise $$$, & use social media to promote gun control
Fascinating. They seem to be advocating all of the positions that I suspect are held by the perp(s).
Well, didn’t the Christchurch shooter say he wanted to get guns banned and that’s why he used the weapons he did?
It’s almost like the gun grabbers are the only ones who can’t be trusted with guns. If you support taking away other people’s guns, clearly the one who shouldn’t be allowed near one is you.
Could you imagine if the NRA showed up at a vigil and suggested registering voters, supporting conservative politicians, and passing laws to arm teachers?
It’s really sick how gun grabbers climb on every corpse they can and expect to be lauded for it.
they’ve never been so publicly called out by the survivors en masse before. inflection point?
it’s a charter school. i fully expect the curriculum and staff to undergo the fullest extent of the state’s review process as those kids are not sufficiently indoctrinated.
I figured out why HM has been pretty MIA around here.
Jemele Hill outdoes itself
…President Andrew Johnson wasn’t really on board with a message of togetherness. Around that time, The Cincinnati Enquirer quoted Johnson as telling the governor of Missouri, “This is a country for white men, and by God, so long as I am president, it shall be a government for white men.”
That divisive proclamation 154 years ago turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Johnson wanted a government where certain people felt excluded. Under Trump, Johnson’s wish came true.
How exhausting it must be. Fucking crackers, always insulting and demeaning their teammates by not boycotting White House invitations.
and-
It’s not what she intended, I’m sure, but this gave me a tingle:
In 2012, the Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas backed out of the White House reception because, as he argued in a statement at the time, the “federal government has grown out of control, threatening the rights, liberties, and property of the people.”
“I made the choice not to go because, as we know, the president has said a lot of stuff about Mexico,” he told MassLive. “And I have a lot of people in Mexico that are fans of me, that follow me. And I’m from there. So I would rather not offend anyone over there.”
sounds like it’s a business decision. gotta sell that merch! and i respect him for that.
“Free Big Macs.”
Why? Can she name a single policy advancement by Trump that is discriminatory?
Hill conveniently leaves out the fact that Thomas was excoriated in the media for refusing to meet Obama.
Another example
And another.
And another…christ, I could do that all day.
LOL not any more
Opening paragraph:
Exactly right, Susan. I assume if I look I will find similar articles written by you about athletes not meeting with Trump.
I member that it was a huge deal and it was universally thought of as disrespectful and pissing on the american flag..
“That divisive proclamation 154 years ago turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Johnson wanted a government where certain people felt excluded. Under Trump, Johnson’s wish came true.”
I am guessing public school. How else would one be unable to spell a simple word like ‘Wilson’?

Then, by the logic of Moms Demand Action, should the Westboro Baptist Church be showing up at the vigils for those killed and signing people up?
Whatever.
It appears that the intended victims in these are getting more aggressive about going after the shooters.
Cops did nothing here. Kids tackled and disarmed the primary fuckhead.
Preferred pronouns are fuck/fucker/fuckhead
What was it last time?
“This guy tackled the shooter and then the heroes(meaning cops) arrested him”
The police chief said something like that recently, if I remember it correctly.
Yep. That was fucking infuriating.
Cubs investigating fan allegedly flashing ‘white power’ sign behind NBC Sports reporter
Pepe the Frog was unavailable for comment.
Funny, the writer *almost* gets it. Sure, part of the gag is that some people get so hysterical about social justice that they freak out if somebody holds their hand a certain way, but the larger bit, what makes it really funny and such an easy troll, is that those people want to actively monitor those thoughts and erase any expression of them from the public view, public being defined in as broad a sense as possible. If you didn’t say that “hate speech” was a crime in and of itself you wouldn’t be so easy to trigger.
He’s been banned now.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/cubs-fan-banned-wrigley-field-after-flashing-white-power-symbol-n1003681
So they’ve banned him….although they have no idea who he is? And the story BLURS OUT HIS HAND IN THE PHOTO???? You have got to be fucking kidding me. Everything about that linked story is a joke.
Ok
I’m calling it. We have officially reached Peak Derp.
There’s no such thing.
One can only know when Peak Derp has been reached after the fact.
Once the levels of derp begin dropping back towards more normal, sustainable levels, is when you know Peak Derp was reached

The hoaxers hoped “the media and liberals would overreact by condemning a common image as white supremacist,” the ADL says.
But “by 2019, at least some white supremacists seem to have abandoned the ironic or satiric intent behind the original trolling campaign and used the symbol as a sincere expression of white supremacy,” according to the ADL.
The ADL cautions that because the sign once had only an innocuous meaning, “particular care must be taken not to jump to conclusions about the intent behind someone who has used the gesture.”

^had to dust that one off

I took a beginners dive with an instructor in Eilat. The Israeli instructor and I flashed the “white power” sign to each other all the time.
It’s about time.
New Mouse Shocks Office Workers Every Time They Click ‘Reply All’
The problem is that I’m often included on “conversations” via email, so not replying to all would cause confusion.
And that would be the proper use of Reply All. The problem is, it is so often used unnecessarily.
Our worst performing division should have that mouse. Whenever someone there sends an email, half of the company is included. It’s a CYA thing.
These are the same people that complain – to their customers – about errors on our system before asking us (IT) how to resolve the issue.
It:s always a CYA thing. I hated that part of being in manufacturing.
“I told you about this!”
“When?”
“I copied you on that 18th reply email to the entire division!”
Beautiful.
Yah. I snorted at that line.
The writers over at the BB have a perfect sense of where reality and satire meet. So damn funny.
Once again for the LEOs:

Workers on the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign have ratified a union contract with management, which says it is the first campaign union contract at the presidential level.
The campaign and the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 — with whom the workers are affiliated — both announced the agreement on Wednesday.
All he needs now is a midget with a broom.

There’s also a pay limit for top campaign officials — no one in campaign management can make more than three times the highest-paid worker in the bargaining unit. (However, outside consultants wouldn’t fall under this provision, Williams said.)
I never would have guessed.
OT: Well yesterday was rough. I sat in the hospital by my mom’s side and talked to her for as long as I could while holding her hand. She is scared; only feels safe if a family member is near by. Eventually she stopped talking/responding to me and just began repeating the words “no no no” over and over again, like a broken record. She refused to take medication and repeatedly told the nurses to leave the room. She wouldn’t even listen to me when I suggested she take the pill.
She is supposed to be transferred to a psychiatric hospital next – hopefully a local one – otherwise we may face a 2 hour round trip to see her.
Needless to say I was an emotional wreck last night and only got a few hours of sleep.
Stress? What stress? ::stares at bottle of gin::
I’m sorry, LH. I’m praying for you and the family.
and apologies for bringing all this bad shit up.
No apologies necessary man. I hope that things get better for you and your mom.
I’m really sorry about that man. That’s rough. Good luck to the both of you and your family.
I’m so sorry, LH. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. Hang in there, lean on EF and cyber-lean on us.
I’m really sorry man
Ugh, that’s terrible. Sorry to hear that, LH.
Uffda. That stuff sucks.
Sympathy and thoughts for you and your family LH.
Sorry to hear that. Has there been a diagnosis?
Nothing yet: my oldest brother, the doctor is guessing Pick’s Disease or just early dementia. Nothing medically can be found via the tests they have done, also confirmed by my brother who got the records.
That’s rough, praying it gets better.
Sorry 🙁
Sorry.
The search for a motive continues.
searching for a motive? at this point New Zealand had already banned the shooter’s manifesto.
My experience is that 9 out of 10 teenagers, when asked “What were you thinking?” or “Why did you do that?” will answer “I don’t know.”
Yes, let’s allow 16 year olds to vote.

Halima Aden, a Somali American and Muslim model, is the first woman to pose in a burkini for Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue, which hits newsstands Wednesday.
“Growing up in the States, I never really felt represented because I never could flip through a magazine and see a girl who was wearing a hijab,” Aden says in a video for Sports Illustrated, as she models several colorful head-to-toe swimwear designs. “Don’t be afraid to be the first.”
Q hardest hit.
Have any imams issued fatwas against her yet? The point of the burka is avoiding the male have after all.
“the male gaze”…what the hell?
Stunning and brave. Now take it off and see what happens.
