Well, today was way cheaper than I expected. Wife’s car failed to start again, as it has done once every 3 weeks for the last 3-4 months. Her mechanic (who we already really liked for their reasonable prices and only doing what really needed doing) told her last time it happened to have it towed in without jumping it next time. So we did that. Mechanic said battery was the problem (several of TPTB and I think a few of you groundlings diagnosed it correctly). Battery was under warranty. With AAA towing and battery warranty, we got a brand new battery for free installed by the mechanic. $0. Didn’t even charge us a service fee for opening the hood and testing the battery.
Apparently, the Trump Impeachment hearings happened. The tweeter feeds people have been sharing with me don’t quite match this article. I do like the new chat-style graphics. Verrrry millenial. Also, they make the whole thing look like the made-for-TV-movie it is.

Plague in China! I mean, yes it is pneumonic plague, but antibiotics and modern sanitary precautions pretty much handle it.
Wow, my old stompin’ grounds of Pearland, TX are getting serious about Muscovy ducks. Do hate birds, the birds that hate next!
The discharge of a firearm is generally illegal in Pearland city limits, but the city says “if a duck is destroyed where use of a firearm is permissible, the person doing so must use nontoxic shot or nontoxic bullets.”
So my parents are actually on holiday in Cambodia, and this song has been stuck in my head since I talked to them about it Saturday night.
Pearland is designated as a bird sanctuary city but the Muscovy duck is considered an invasive species from Central and South America and are therefore not protected.
As long as they don’t apply that “invasive species” logic to humans.
?
I shouldn’t give the environmentalists ideas?
not protected
They’re not federally protected because they don’t migrate. If they did, they would, so far as I know, be protected by treaty betwixt the US and the UK (Canada).
They’re not locally protected because they’re too ugly to have a lobby or constituency. When loving ugly ducks becomes cool, they will get their law.
Feral domestics/invasive species aren’t protected anywhere, at least not at the state level. We have one invasive species gaining ground in Colorado; the Eurasian Collared Dove is crowding out our native Mourning Doves. The Division of Wildlife’s take is “kill all of them you can.”
oh, mine was a frivolous observation of the just to laugh about (aboot?) how the mallards in my yard are protected by international treaty
invasive species wouldn’t have the DNA, heritage, or inclination to migrate in any regard, of course
the question of exceptions to the treaty isn’t a hill I would die on
Hell, the Robins are protected by that treaty.
Only in Trump’s Amerikkka…killing immigrant birds.
Russian ducks! Collusion confirmed!!1!

no one should shoot a duck just for throwing rocks at armed soldiers
After that treatment, Ginsburg later appeared at the National Book Festival in August, saying, “As this audience can see I am alive… and I’m on my way to being very well.”
I guess it all depends on how you define “very well”.
Like Google’s “Don’t be evil”, if you have to SAY you’re still alive, the assertion decreases the evidence for the thing asserted.
I like Muscovy ducks. They are pretty fearless and have no regard for traffic or your schedule.
How do they taste?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foie_gras
Excellent as foie gras.
Ah, it’s a dabbler. I prefer divers.
Maybe it just has too many other obligations to devote time to it?
You like duck that tastes like fish?
Spud, there is nothing better than a Canvasback. Delicious!
Okay, I’ll give you canvasback. Ever eaten a spoonie?
No. Nasty?
Fishy. In our group, a spoonie on your strap is grounds for derision.
The cans are great because they are bigger, too. We mostly ended up with mallard, teal and wood ducks. The teal were fine but so small that they bordered on not worth the effort.
Just takes more of ’em (teal, that is)
RBG is selfish. She should step down.
We’re going to need term limits or an age of retirement for Federal Judges.
What are you kidding!? She may be the only thing standing between you and the next Nazi death camps right now!
But what if I *want* Nazi death camps?
You want to send Nazis to their death? For shame!
They got Trump now.
I hope someone is making a copy of this show trial process so it can be used on future presidents.
Ha ha.

I laughed too.

ROFLMAO!
We have some in laws staying with us, who like to watch the news. Even they can’t handle those hearings for more than 5 minutes at a time.
That’s 5 more minutes than I can handle. Tell them they’re troopers!
This one is difficult to watch. Politician Willie Dille who was gangraped and threatened further for “fighting Islam”- commits suicide after a farewell statement.
Wow. That’s horrible.
But oddly enough not with a bomb vest into a crowd of people.
At that point, aren’t you just doing the Islamist’s work for them? Why do them any favors?
I’m not feeding the ducks, I’m just very clumsy handling stale bread.
I’m not feeding the ducks, I’m just storing this birdseed in my back yard.
“if a duck is destroyed where use of a firearm is permissible, the person doing so must use nontoxic shot or nontoxic bullets.”
What quack came up with this shit?
I think the Feds. Didn’t the Feds ban use of lead shot for hunting waterfowl?
You know what they say: Birds of a feather, etc.

Bears are so smart they know garbage-pickup schedules.
Ones that are smarter than average know how to tie neckties.
Damn your nimble fingers!
They’re smarter than your average bear.
Even dumber than average bears know how to steal pic-a-nic baskets.
Granted, the technique is just “walk up to basket, eat contents.”
If you’re looking for 20K calories, you eat the thing carrying the picnic basket too.

Well, obviously.
We live next to a ravine. We have 2 neighborhood bears. My neighbor got the older one on a trail cam just 2 weeks ago. I figured they would be asleep by now, but I guess not.
Our old neighborhood in Pensacola had a ton of Muscovy ducks living in the retention ponds. Our mutt almost caught one once.

“Experts say”
The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to limit what scientific evidence can guide public health regulations echoes tactics used by the tobacco industry to invalidate science regarding the tobacco industry, scientists told Newsweek.
The EPA plans to require scientists to disclose all raw data before the agency considered a study’s conclusions, The New York Times reported Monday. The proposal, which was described by the government as a step toward transparency, would restructure the process by which the EPA creates public health regulations.
The report unleashed a wave of condemnations from scientists and researchers. Critics said that the change would impede the agency’s ability to implement new protections and marked a dangerous escalation in the Trump administration’s broader assault on science and environmental regulations.
——-
As the scientific community and broader public responded to the Times’ reporting on Monday, John Walke, the director of the clean air, climate and clean energy program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, traced the similarities between the 1996 correspondence.
He noted that both the EPA proposal and the tobacco industry wanted to focus on the process by which scientific evidence is incorporated into government health codes and argued that both disingenuously emphasized “transparency” to avoid science-based regulation.
——-
“The ‘Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science’ rulemaking is designed to increase transparency in the preparation, identification and use of science in rulemaking. When final, this action will ensure that the regulatory science underlying EPA’s actions are made available in a manner sufficient for independent validation,” Schiermeyer wrote, also referencing a lengthy refutation of the Times’ article released by the agency on Tuesday.
Walke, who served in the EPA’s Office of General Counsel before joining the Natural Resources Defense Fund, pushed back against the EPA statement, writing on Twitter that many of the claims from the EPA were false.
Despite the concern from the scientific community, he told Newsweek the proposed EPA change would be struck down in court.
“I don’t see any court having trouble overturning this rule based on this ludicrous claim of legal authority,” Walke told Newsweek. “This claimed legal authority is just stupid and absurd.”
“Trust me. According to my model, my model is correct. My data? Don’t worry about it. It says I’m right.”
How the fuck does “Show your work” constitute an assault on science?
Here.
You wanna know about science, mister! Huh, do you!? You can’t handle science!
SCIENCE!
“13% of Americans say they know someone who died after they couldn’t afford health care, survey says”
That’s 13% mister!, 13 fucking percent of people who have said they know someone who died because no healthcare! NOW THAT’S FUCKING SCIENCE! WE LOVE FUCKING SCIENCE, YOU DENIER!
#believeUnsubstantiatedSurveys
So based on 6 degrees of separation that means absolutely nothing. It doesn’t measure actual numbers of people who died because of an inability to afford health care.
“that means absolutely nothing”
Like everything ever posted on CNN.
At six degrees, everyone knows the one guy this referred to, but only 13% could remember him off the top of their head.
#AnonymousStrawMan
How many of those are people who can’t afford nursing homes?
What if I know someone who was diagnosed with late stage colon cancer, and on O-care and told to dump O-care and just sign up for whatever indigent program TX has and they could do more for him than if he had O-care? Also, he survived and is now cancer free.
So 13% of Americans know foreign nationals with relatives that have died under government healthcare.
Oh, Donald.
“I’m too busy to watch it,” he said. “It’s a witch hunt, it’s a hoax, I’m too busy to watch it.”
Trump said that he would get briefed on the day’s testimony later in the day.
He commented that he had heard that Democrats were using “television lawyers” to question the witnesses at the hearing.
“I’m not surprised to see it, because Schiff can’t do his own questions,” he said.
Trump was referring to former MSNBC legal analyst Daniel Goldman, who Schiff recruited to conduct the examination of the witnesses Ambassador Bill Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent.
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham called the hearing “boring.”
“This sham hearing is not only boring, it is a colossal waste of taxpayer time and money,” she wrote on Twitter.
House Democrats spent the first 93 minutes on opening statements before members of Congress could question the witnesses.
The White House also released a video at noon with the president declaring the investigation as the “single greatest scam in the history of American politics.”
He reminded supporters that Democrats wanted to take away their guns, health care, vote, freedom, and judges with the impeachment process.
“It’s all very simple, they’re trying to stop me because I am fighting for you and I will never let that happen,” Trump said.

The latest? Distracted driving laws in Minnesoda
We are letting poor Officer Nelson (a heroic traffic unit officer in a Minnesoda suburb) down.
I don’t like people who drive like idiots because of their phones, but I swear I’d rather be one of them than to be buddies with Nelson.
Remember when the cops couldn’t pull us over for a seatbelt violation?
I do.
I’m with you, though. People are shitty drivers but fuck officer Nelson.
This seatbelt law will never be a primary offense!
Yeah, I remember being told that. Happened to my dad and I last weekend. Some jackass car in the other lane pulled up next to us and then started staring at us. After a closer look it was a state trooper in an unmarked car. Once he saw we had our seat belts on, he sped up and did the same thing to a couple cars in front of us.
Assholes.
Was he distracted? Maybe he knew you from another experience. Good thing you weren’t driving while being from NoDak.
Unmarked cars , except for very limited uses, are bullshit and a perfect example of gotcha policing. State police here went from reflective block yellow signage over dark blue vehicles to thin black lettering over dark grey/silver.
If officer safety truly was paramount, their vehicles would be clearly marked with reflective tape and signage, and they’d wear osha compliant reflective clothing when exposed to vehicular traffic.

“I remember they would see me and have their hands on their steering wheel and being so proud,” Nelson said. “They saw me seeing them with their hands on the steering wheel.”
And this is why most cops can’t tell a tomato plant from a pot plant. Because they can’t tell ‘proud’ from ‘I’d better have my hands where this cop can see them so he doesn’t just assume I’m reaching for something and then his service weapon just ‘starts discharging”.’
“I’m proud to be an American
Where at least Nelson knows my hands are free
I’d gladly pull over at next block
And cower while I hand over my license

What rules?
Schiff interrupted after Republicans were only ten minutes into their questioning, warning the Ambassador that if he was unable to “assume facts not in evidence” before him were correct.
“Are you seriously interrupting our time here?” House Minority Chairman Devin Nunes asked incredulously.
Rep. John Ratcliffe protested Schiff’s sudden rule change after Democrats spent the first portion of the hearing with leading questions and hearsay.
“I sat here through the first 45 minutes and literally had an objection to almost the foundation of almost every question that Mr. Goldman asked regarding facts not in evidence, leading,” he fired back at Schiff.
Schiff protested that he allowed the question, but was merely instructing the witness.
“Rep. John Ratcliffe protested Schiff’s sudden rule change after Democrats spent the first portion of the hearing with leading questions and hearsay.”
So I guess this Ratcliffe missed that whole part about how the democrats are making up the rules as they go and there’s totally nothing wrong with that.
I don’t see why he’s bothering. Just say “I’m not participating in this circle jerk, because the senate will never convict”
He’s a politician. He’s grandstanding as much as Schiff is.

If someone really wanted to get rid of politicians, we should just have cameras waiting at the bottom of a cliff and tell each hack that he/she was going to get exclusive air time in front of the flacks.
They would get air time so not really a lie.
Ideally, the cameras would be in a big pile resulting from when we managed to convince the flacks to go first.

Hillary Clinton Says She Is Being Urged To Run By Many, Many, Many Voices In Her Head
“I’m under enormous pressure from many, many, many voices in my head to think about it,” she said. Then there’s this voice that sounds like Christopher Walken. He’s kind of a jerk sometimes, but even he’s on board with me running again.”

Spud– I spent the night in the hospital with my mom last night and thought about you a lot. I hope you’re holding steady and have breaks every so often.
My breaks are about 90 minutes long, three days a week when my wife is on her horse. I run errands.
Holding steady is relative.
Thank god for horses and animals. My wife had some awful things happen during her childhood and she credits those for getting her through the though times. People aren’t very high on her list.
Agreed. Without the horse and the dogs, we’d be much farther down the road by now.
Who in their right mind would want a people as a pet? Dogs are needy enough and people are just all sorts of fucked up, it would just be asking for your own misery. I’d take that one to the vet to get put to sleep or just abandon it beside the road and hope it doesn’t make it’s way back.

I was going to run to the store and get a couple things and the wife tells me ‘Hey, can you get bananas, we’re out. And beans, I meant to buy some beans and I forgot I guess, because I can’t find them. I bought black and red and some white… and she just sort of rambles off like she’s talking to herself…’ So I went to the store and I just bought all of these bags of different beans, like 10 bags of them. And when I cam back, she’s unloading the stuff from the table, she doesn’t like me putting stuff in the cupboards, I ‘miss it all up’. And she’s like ‘OMG, what the… Mr. Hyperion! What is this!?’. I said ‘well, you told me to buy beans’. I don’t know why I thought that was funny, I think I’m really bored and work today almost put me over the edge, jeebus, what a clusterfuck of a day, I think I’ve cracked a little at this point. I had asked this question earlier today, but I think the thread was dead at the time. But does anyone understand the argument for why SCOTUS would be hearing the DACA case? Is their a constitutional argument that a POTUS cannot undo what a previous POTUS did by executive action? I’ve been really busy and just curious as to why the court is hearing that.
One way ratchet
Or
FYTW
I think (rank speculation to follow) That the original executive order recognized a new right. In so doing a second executive can’t overturn the order as it is now a right.
I’d be satisfied if they just recognized the rights that are already explicitly laid out in the Bill of Rights.
Yeah, I head you.
hear
You’re really all about the full service, aren’t you? ;-)
?
Yeah, I don’t like the implication of that. Giving the POTUS way the fuck too much power at that point. Especially when we’re talking about forever rules.
Don’t worry. It’ll change when the President is a Democrat.
I believe the argument is that the executive branch needs to follow some procedure before implementing a policy change like this. I’m not sure if that is codified in legislation or if it is some standard that has been created by the courts.
If Trump loses on DACA, I’d love to see him create some new, lower tax rates and let the Dems challenge it in court.
So the executive is free to take extra legal action so long as they follow the process.
Sounds legit.
That’s the usual standard for agency rule making, and why agencies can’t simply repeal previous admin’s policies, but applying it to executive orders is a bit of an extension.
So are they going to start rounding up the Japanese again or is it just executive orders that Orangemanbad repeals?

I’m getting too confused. I just can’t keep up.
I read all the links. I read all the stories/reports provided by our Most Exellent Glibs. I can no longer tell “Is it real or is it Memorex,”
Our fine writting staff (and I’m beginning to think that includes the BB) take the stupidy up a notch and before I’m done laughing “reality” out does them.
Absurd quotes swirl in my head – was that an AOC/Donny 2 Scoops tweet or did SF or Trashy write that? Or maybe it was Shifty Schiff.
It’s like some movie that keeps going in an out of dream scenes and you lose track of which is which.
Worse, I’m begining to think it might not matter.
Just enjoy the opium dreams.
In truth, and I mean this with 100% seriousness, it doesn’t. It truly does not. What matters – all that matters – is the quality of your love/our love for self and other self.
I used to let all of this drive me insane, especially worrying about what would be left for my kids. I genuinely was on a Crusade for a big chunk of my life to “fix it” for my kids, because I really believed I knew what was wrong and how it might be fixed. I’m aware how giant an ego that implies I have/had.
I finally had my own Road to Damascus and my life has been better in every sense since then. It’s still work sometimes, but now I see Progressives/statists in a different light. In many ways, they give meaning to our lives. Now before your head pops off, let me explain by way of an anecdote.
A friend of mine loves Howard Stern. I’m ambivalent about him (sometimes I like his interviews, I don’t care as much for the schlock, but he is undoubtedly more talented than people think.) At any rate, my friend pointed out that Stern once said (back when) that of his “20MM listeners, probably 60% hate me.” He may have even said 80%. My buddy went on to point out that we all, to some extent, are defined by our antitheses. At least part of his love for Stern, he said, was “the fact that my old man hates him and thinks he’s stupid and doesn’t get the joke. It makes me like Stern even more.”
Progressives have helped give my life definition and clarity, particularly on what I consider to be matters of principle. My dad was, and still is, a lifelong democrat. “Party of the working man!” he would say. He even ran for some tiny little town office as a democrat when I was an infant – against other dems, because my home state (RI) is like California, and has been for a lot longer. I used to believe all of their bullshit – ALL OF IT. I’m grateful for them, now. It doesn’t mean they still don’t piss me off, but my kids are like that, too, and I still love them beyond words.
Anyway, I don’t know if it helps, but I really identified with what you wrote there. That was me not that long ago.
“Best timeline ever!!”
Ozy, while you took that down a path far more serious than I intended that path was very insightful.
I went through the same sort of thing and I’ve long ago come to the conclusion that while there are a lot of things in the world I am interested in and care about, I don’t let them really bother me deep inside. This site really helps with that. I keep informed, learn a lot, see more of the absurdities than I otherwise would, and mostly get a lot of laughs. After the last episode whenever I hear “Bernie Sanders” I’l thing of him staring at AOC’s tits while she takes a selfie. Way better than reality – if it’s not reality it should be.
My fault for taking that deep, mikey. This is what happens when the edibles sneak up on me.

Ozy, it’s very apparent to me that you care, and that you have taken action to make the lives of others better in a way that is more than just adding a hashtag to your latest tweet. For that, I say thank you and I wish there were more like you.
There are. I’ve been fortunate to know some great ones. It seems to me a good chunk of them are right here, too. 😉
Hey, speaking of blathering while you’re high, does anybody have a latest virtual (or actual, if he truly exists) sighting on Agile Cyborg?
Just remember, in the event of an apocalypse, I’m forming a Glib army. You just have to make it here. Bring bacon & bourbon. Firearms and ammo will be provided.
The Mojeaux Fam will be there.
We’ll leave the light on ?
“We’re gonna need a bigger compound.”
Well, yeah. A thousand yard range takes up a lot of room.
I’ve got my eyes on some choice pieces of real estate…just in case.
“Firearms and ammo will be provided.”
Sweet, because I have neither.
I just have never gotten into guns. I’m a total supporter of 2A, but do not enjoy it personally.
#metoo
Plus I live in NYC. ?
But if shit does go down I have no qualms whatsoever about getting interested.
You’ll be issued a (very) nice .22 LR. Or maybe a Mosin, if I’m feeling cheeky.
Bacon is fine, but I am not really into boubon.
I do have a cellar well stocked with wine, cider, mead, and sour ales. Plus I have a few pistols I can bring along.
Does that work for you?
I’m open to making deals. Except the beer. I’m staying keto in the apocolypse.
The chick that just declared herself the President of Bolivia is hot.
Well, if you’re going to continue to live in squalid poverty because of your overlord’s soviet dreams, you might as well get to look at a hottie instead of bowl cut boy, cause what else you got?
Would?
I’d migrate south for her.
My blood migrates south …
This morning I put a pipe bomb in my neighbor’s mailbox and he wasn’t home but it blew up while the mailman was parking his truck across the street and he ended up with a dislocated thumb an now the cops are at my house WTF can you believe this bullshit…

I love the logic that says since the Palestians are fairly incompetent at killing Israelis with rockets, the Israelis shouldn’t respond
Look, this little kid just kept throwing rocks at me from his lawn, occasionally breaking my stuff or even once in a while hitting me in the head and causing me to go to the doctor and get some stitches. So one time I just got mad and went over there and thrashed him within an inch of his life to get him to maybe stop it.
/punching down – so wrong
I’ve really just said fuck it for the day. I’m going to have a few beers and try once again to finish Greedfall. *turns off that email thingy, phone thingy*
Good idea! Wait, what time is it?
Was tempted to DL it. Is it worth it?
@ Bearded Hobbit
I sent you an e-mail but got an “invalid e-mail address” message.
It’s jemezhobbit at the gmail.com
It helps when you add the .com.

Always loved that movie. Actually the re-tellkng of the African equivalent to Easop’s fables.
#canceldisney
Actually, that’s not too bad. I was afraid they’d lock the stuff up or edit it.
Are they streaming Song of the South?
I watched 4.5 minutes of the impeachment. This is good.

Rep. Stefanik makes the witness agree that Burisma had a deep corruption problem and it was recognized by the Obama administration.
But, hey, if Trump wants to investigate this then it’s just unseemly.
You must have a higher tolerance than me. I haven’t watched more than 30 seconds, and only because it was playing on a TV in the student union building. I am so disgusted at this farce. I am infuriated that my tax dollars are being used to perpetuate this farce.
This years National Christmas Tree came from NM, about 100 miles north of me
Someone tried to steal the stump
Best timeline?
Really? What is this, North Korea?
Not enough “Glorious.”
Missed that. Rage inducing.
1st world problems.
https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2019/11/judge-orders-man-accused-of-threatening-us-sen-ron-paul-family-to-be-involuntarily-medicated.html
There’s a bunch of details in this story that bother me
arrested in CA, sent to OR, and then to MO.
The feds run their own psychiatric facility
That upwards of a 100 people are involuntarily medicated everyday
“Expert” testimony from a student intern
The intern and psychiatrist are sitting with the defendant during the hearing and not their counsel
Most of these things seem reasonable, but it’s also the same characteristics as Soviet show trials
Ron Paul wasn’t the senator.
I detect a libertarian wedge issue here.
At what point does the threat of violence become sufficient to justify governmental intervention?
That’s another point. If his me talk illness is so severe that he needs to be involuntarily medicated, how could he possess the mens rea necessary to commit the crime?
Me talk=mental illness
Thank you, SF. H&H is a welcome addition to a shitty day.
Steve Smith’s cousins.

Fake news. There was just murder, no rape.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is aware of the issue. On its website, it notes that chimps can “be aggressive and unfriendly, particularly towards unrelated individuals.”
…
Chimps are humans’ closest living relatives, sharing “at least 94 [percent] of its DNA,” according to the UWA.
Cold, bro.
wiki binging with dinner and ended up on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mao_Zedong#Leadership_of_China where I read this gem:
During the land reform campaigns, large numbers of landlords and rich peasants were beaten to death at mass meetings organised by the Communist Party as land was taken from them and given to poorer peasants, which significantly reduced economic inequality.
I can’t tell real derp from troll derp anymore.
