I may have mentioned before…Foxx is the only one to get a fuckin’ out of the Smollett case. What a shit-show.
Taxpayers? Society?
I am hoping it only starts with her. At a minimum however, she getting reamed might disuade others from doing these sorts of favors in the future because when the shit hits the fan, they will be left out in the cold like Foxx is right now…
She’s stupid so it’s well deserved. I have a feeling Jussie will reap the karma whirlwind soon enough.
I expect a civil suit from the brothers will get him.

Hmm. Too much water can kill you? Somehow.
They are essentially making electric/hybrid vehicles mandatory for commercial fleets.
Cronyism is the only end served there. Electric vehicles are the dumbest idea since screen doors on submarines.
It would be cleaner to power vehicles with wood fired steam engines.
I actually like some of the things electric motors can bring to performance cars. Some of the crazy shit they are doing with race cars is awesome.
Forcing people to buy a particular car or stealing money to facilitate a purchase is where my issues lie.
Thomas Massie disagrees with you.
But then again, he was one of those off-the-grid hippies too.
My guess is that those vehicles would only help pollution if the energy source was nuclear.
Hey Straff,
There is a terrible* show about Asian street food on Netflix — but it does make Izakaya Toyo in Osaka look pretty awesome. Although I didn’t know that you could have an outdoor izakaya. It actually makes Osaka in general look pretty awesome.
*It is terrible because it takes the same approach to its purported subject as NBC does to the Olympics — instead of covering the event, it tries to make stars out of the personalities, focusing on their struggles in overcoming hardships, etc.
There used to be quite a “standing bars” around town. Osaka may still have them, but all the ones I like have closed down. Really too bad because they we quite fun.
Osaka is a food focused city.
Many awesome places to eat.
Osaka is a fun city. My sister-in-law lives in Kobe, so when we visit we tend to roam around Osaka as well.
Not sure what place N-Adnan is yapping about, but I’ve had a lot of good food in Osaka.
This popped up in my YouTube feed and I immediately thought of you!
How to Pronounce Japanese Tsu and Chu for Korean speakers
I can immediately hear the difference between the two sounds, but the two Korean sounds sound identical to me. I can see why you struggle with the Korean.
One thing that surprised me about the hellhole that is NJ is that 44% of its generation is nuclear.
IL is even higher…for now.
Both states share many unfortunate similarities.
Mandating electric/hybrid vehicles will be the incandescent lightbulb banning scam writ large. All car manufacturers are announcing or producing hybrids or electrics. They’re preparing for government edicts, not massive market demand.
Their payouts differed because fines for idling for more than three minutes — or one minute in a school zone
So you’re fucked even if you are sitting at a stoplight. And it does say “idling”. So I presume if I sit with my foot slightly on the throttle to raise the rpm above idle or recalibrate the idle to be higher (burning more fuel…) I’ll be in the clear.
How do they determine that a vehicle has it’s motor running from a pic if there is no obvious tailpipe emission. Tailpipe emissions could be photoshopped as well.

Meanwhile, in fly-over country:
North Dakota senators approve bill repealing car idling ban
Had a buddy who was a recruiter for the USMC and based in ND. He told when they got it in the morning during the winter, the first thing they did was start all the vehicles and leave the engines running indefinitely for when they went out to visit people.
Where I work most of the vehicles run all day. They never need starter motors and batteries last forever. Motors and fuel systems are shot with very low miles though. The cop cars have secure idle, which means the keys can be removed while idling but if you hit the brake or shift into gear, the motor stops. Lotta idling.
One can only hope that the three people mentioned in the article suffer financial hardships in their professional life due to people now knowing their names.
Is that petty on my part? Yeah. I believe people who go out of their way to snitch on their fellow citizens to the government over something that’s none of their goddamn business deserve all the scorn in the world. What a bunch of bitches.
I agree. I could see one -or all- of these people becoming fodder* for an episode of Law and Order: SVU.
*note to the NSA; I am not wishing that upon them, just saying it wouldn’t shock me if something bad happened to them
They should repeal the idle ban here – and replace it with the death penalty for double-parking.
Switzerland prohibits leaving the engine running whenever a car is stopped.
On the other hand, the Swiss are good about other things.
Don’t drive more than 4km/hr over the limit. Ever.
Anyone who spent time in a North Dakota winter would know why repealing the idling ban was a vote winner.

Actually, having a Dong on the side can be uncomfortable.

Eric Swallowswell strikes again.
Swalwell retweeted Trump and added, “Spare us your thoughts and prayers. It’s an alibi for inaction. You told the NRA yesterday you’d keep dangerous guns in the hands of dangerous people. We will take it from here with action.”…
Swalwell called in to CNN on Saturday to spread around some more blame. “If you really start to think about it, [such an attack] is not hard to imagine at all. We’re in a country where we have unrestricted weaponry and we have growing hate groups, where we see a failure of leadership to denounce them, and that is a deadly combination.”
This guy clearly has a problem with the truth. There are plenty of restrictions on what Swalwell calls “weaponry.” The vast majority of gun purchases require a federal background check and there are heavy federal restrictions on automatic firearms, such as machine guns, as well as short-barreled shotguns and rifles.
“A lot of people are just fed up with hearing ‘thoughts and prayers’ as an alibi for doing nothing,” he reiterated on CNN.
“It’s not just background checks, which I would sign into law, it’s banning and buying back the 15 million assault rifles that are in our communities and it looks like the weapon that was used today.”
Mendacious or stupid?
Yes.
Both!
Swalwell denied that he’s “politicizing a tragedy.”
“I think the people who were shot today would have appreciated someone who did something, like a dangerous weapon like the one that got in the hands of the shooter,” he said. “We’re told that this is a divisive issue by the people who want us to do nothing. I’ve come to see that is actually a tactic, it’s not where most Americans are.” For the record, the rabbi who was shot at his synagogue on Saturday was grateful for the call he received from Trump on Saturday: “He was just so comforting, I’m really grateful to our president for taking the time and making that effort to share with us his comfort and consolation,” said Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein.
Interestingly enough, and I am sure that you all will be shocked to learn this, but the shooter did not have a disqualifying criminal history and he was stopped by a show of force against him.
Why was the shooter in the Texas church able to kill double digits? What stopped him? Why was the shooter yesterday only able to kill one? Why was the NZ shooter able to kill so many at multiple locations?
Heard yesterday from moron interviewed on FOX: “We keep seeing these shooters attacking soft targets. I am at a loss as to what to do about that.” – later implying the only solution is to….you guessed it….take people’s guns away.
When your dogma only permits one outcome based on a single solution (even when said solution is blatantly wrong), you are blinded to both the truth and other viable options.
You provide a soft target and give people going after these soft targets more than 15 mins of fame (and a lot of people seem quite content these days with infamy), don’t be surprised when people go after those soft targets.
His gun jammed, apparently.
And someone shot back.
There was – of all freaking things – an off duty border patrol agent with a weapon that went after this evil fuck. I hope Karma ends with this guy sharing a cell with a 300 lbs all muscle guy named Joshua that makes him his prison bitch for life.
I appreciate Mr. Oscar Stewart.
We’re in a country where we have unrestricted weaponry and we have growing hate groups, where we see a failure of leadership to denounce them
This guy is batting below the Mendoza line. Time to cut him.
He can join Beto on a van tour of the open spaces of America.

They should all give up now, cause Biden has got this thing locked up…

” buying back the 15 million assault rifles”
OK Dokey, do I get to set the price? Yes, I want to be a millionaire !!
“back” – unless they were some sort of sale by the USG, it ain’t buying “back” – it is a confiscation.
Yeah, that’s one of the more annoying stolen bases.
The term “buyback” is horseshit. It would be compensated confiscation.
Your check is in the mail…
If they do a confiscation with compensation deal, they are going to be tied up in court for awhile over “regulatory takings” and how much compensation.
I’d have to dig it up, but my “assault” rifle cost me over a grand, all in. I suspect its market value as a very lightly used gun is close to that, still. I ain’t selling it for what they usually pay at these “buy-back” events.
t’s not just background checks, which I would sign into law, it’s banning and buying back the 15 million assault rifles that are in our communities and it looks like the weapon that was used today.”
Molon labe, bitch. What’re you gonna do, nuke me?
looking at what happened in Germany from the Weimar through the 3rd Reich, it will be a gradual degradation of rights starting with registration and ending in confiscation over a period of about 15-20 years.
So, what Swalwell is saying is, I need to buy more guns and ammunition.
Miss Burrows then got a message on Snapchat which appeared to be from Mr Bond, but was in fact from Riddington luring her to an alleyway where she attacked her with a knife.
Even my shady friends wouldn’t be able to lure me to an alleyway with a Snapchat message.
No shit. I suspect we aren’t dealing with genius’ here.

HOW ABOUT STEVE SMITH?
Approximate actual conversation in a small Swiss town along the German border in 1991:
Me: What are those stone pyramids between buildings?
Swiss: WW2 tank traps.
Me: Why are they still there?
Swiss: [looks around nervously][stutters] You know, historical reasons.
TBF German reunification had only been completed a year or two before.
That and memories are much longer in the old world than here…
Reunification was a big deal when I was there. The older generation of Swiss were nervous about it.
Germany decided to conquer the rest of Europe via the EU this time, which is a bit of improvement.
It doesnt seem to be, at least not by much.
A few million less corpses. So far.
Riding on a bridge across the Danube in Melk, Austria in the late 90s I looked over the edge and saw a bunch of tank traps in a storage yard. Whether they were there ready for the defunct Warsaw Pact countries coming down from Czechoslovakia or for the Germans coming down the Danube was unclear.
The Racial Bias Built Into Photography
Meh, a good black and white photographer never had problems with that. I will take Kodak B&W 100-25 ISO films printed on Ilford FB any day over any color film.
Speaking of which…do we have any b&w photographers here?
As-in, still doing chemical photography? Not anymore but ask away.
Former. Haven’t been a darkroom in a long, long time.
Same
I was going to suggest for anyone still doing it a process I developed back in the early ’90s that produces a very interesting effect. Hoped someone would try it and see what results they got. My darkroom is all in boxes in the attic. Occasionally I dream of setting it up.
Reticulation?
Semi-reciprocity. Using Solarol as a regular developer, stopping your enlarger down as small as it will go and exposing the paper for up to two minutes. Works best on Tech-Pan film (ISO 25), large paper (16×20) and soft shapes like the human form. You want your image to be relatively soft contrast. It is difficult to describe the effect. It isnt a solarization exactly, or doesnt appear to be.
I have never seen anything else like it. Hoped someone else would try it. Somewhere around here I have my technical notes stored away. I’d dig ’em out if someone were willing to give it a shot.
Actually I have never told anyone how to do it despite much nagging and pleading. Since I will probably only dream of setting up the dark room and never actually do it I thought I would pass it on.
Whoa, that’s cool. Almost like what you get with pinhole photography.
I was never an artsy photog. My background is commercial photography, photojournalism and sport and action photography.
Yes, almost like pinhole but not quite. The film is super hi-res but all of the lines get softened. It is hard to describe. Somewhere in the attic I have a box full of 11x17s and 16x20s of nudes.
No, I am not going to dig them out for you pervs.
*The models sat for me on the condition that I would never make them public without their express permission. I think a couple of those girls are in positions now in their life where they would not want them seen by anyone. One is a newscaster, one a politician, one a college professor.
One of the best images is a girl who was a dead-ringer for the Venus de-Milo. Black background, black tempera paint on the missing parts. You have to really study it to see it is not the actual statue. I used that process and then gold toned it. I should probably frame and hang that one. It won a few contests.
I’m guessing that the long exposure means that the image is affected by the cumulative microvibrations and atmospheric diffusions than would a print exposed in a short, bright burst. Just guessing.
And thanks for being a gentleman about that. And kudos for getting girls to pose nude for you — that was one of the reasons guys got into photography/darkroom back in the day.
And I have souped plenty of no-shit porn back in the day. Pretty tame stuff of a straight couple banging, no BCUs or money shots.
I didn’t get into it for the chicks but after they saw some of my portrait work their own narcissism got the better of them. Young girls…sheesh.
I was happy to oblige.
I haven’t developed film since the 90’s. The only way I would get back into it would be with a medium to large format camera. With anything smaller there’s no point anymore.
Glass plate negatives with artisanal emulsion, or gtfo. LOL.
When I was a lad I found an old 4×5 Graflex Speed Graphic in the depths of the lab, and some film. They let me dick around with it. Sheet film developing is kinda cool; there is a specific set of hand motions for agitation in all axes. After that I respected the fuck out of anyone who had managed to capture a perfect moment with one of those; so much easier than a 35mm Nikon with motordrive and the mirror locked up with a fresh 36 exposure roll.
In my mind, Robert Park is the current king of large format. He still uses a 1904 Seneca 5×7, but his output is amazing.
[follows scruffy’s link, weeps]
Amazing. Thanks for that.
I’ve been here and I can’t believe he captured how gorgeous it is.
Bookmarked.
Making your own wet glass plate negatives isn’t difficult. Pretty simple chemistry. Shooting outside on a windy day is difficult since the plate has to dry before being sensitized.
Finding a light safe camera is the tricky part.
The best one I’ve ever handled (circa 1870) still had extensive leather rot on the bellows.
At the Viva Las Vegas car show, there was a guy offering up daguerreotype pictures for those who wanted them. He was using the old outer shells of cameras (restored) with updated hardware inside.
Me anyway. Our house has no space for a darkroom, but there’s a photographic center in Seattle with B&W facilities, I go there whenever I can. It’s worth a trip to Satan’s Disneyland to get a chance to work with film there.
http://pcnw.org
Just look at the negatives, ya whiner.
Technical ability to capture and reproduce color in print is a “bias”?
Science is white supremacy. You didn’t get the memo?
The only good science is the by consensus science. Any science that is actually using the scientific method and doesn’t prove that leftists pipe dreams are good things, is not science at all. It is heresy!
No, it’s white male patriarchy. We have to exclude the wimmens too.
Greater dynamic range in a photograph for a first wavelength range as compared to a different wavelength range is the literal, hard-science definition of a bias function.
“also received complaints before from parents about the quality of graduation photographs — the color contrast made it nearly impossible to capture a diverse group”
Yeah, I spent many in-darkroom hours dodging and burning those types of photographs. But the absolute worst were rural black church baptism photos. Baptisms are usually held during the summer because the baptism pool was outdoors. And the preferred baptismal garb was white choir-type robes. People would bring old family photos into the lab and I’d try to pull as much detail out of the original print as I could. Learned quickly to photograph the end-product because if they liked the print they ordered then I could quickly return a uniform product in unlimited quantity.
Oh fuck off, the simple fact that it is more difficult to render contrasts among darker tones does not make technology racist.
No, but it makes you a racist!!!!!
Wait until all those memos about how Kodak intentionally developed and sold film that only worked on white people come out. You’ll change your tune.
If Kodak had any money to shake down, someone would make this happen.
I don’t get it. Can you race-splain that to me?
The company developed color transparency film that was superior to Kodak for handling brown skin. Yet, for the average consumer, Kodak Gold Max became appealing.
Nice bit of misdirection. Gold was a negative film and most consumers weren’t buying film for slides (transparency film), certainly not in the 80’s. Fujifilm became the film of choice for a lot of people in that period. They were underpricing Kodak by quite a bit trying to gain market share. I suppose in alternate reality land, Kodak lost the 84 Olympics sponsorship to Fujifilm because they were racists?
Anybody remember Agfachrome? It had great brown and black tones.
I remember the name and sure I shot a few rolls but I don’t remember any technical details.
“Earl Kage, Kodak’s former manager of research and the head of Color Photo Studios, received complaints during this time from chocolate companies saying that they “weren’t getting the right brown tones on the chocolates” in the photographs”
Luck for us people were complaining about the “brown” in chocolate, and not some other, erm, less palatable brown content?
Scheisse!
Scat fetishists are people too! ::runs out of the room::
There used to be these things called Kodak Color Test Cards. They were two thick cardboard strips – one with various colors, the other with various shades of gray. Once you got the lighting right you’d have the model hold these and take a photograph so that when you were doing prints you could get the color right by printing that test shot over and over until you finally got a print that matched the cards exactly. The cards were painstakingly printed so that the colors and grays were exactly the same from batch to batch and the business came in a thick EK yellow envelope with black lining so that the cards wouldn’t fade when not in use.

Libertarians Party For Hate Speech In New York City
Last Thursday night down on Bleeker Street in Manhattan, the libertarian entertainment company We The Internet gathered to throw a bash celebrating its latest mini-documentary, and the launch of its “The Funny Thing About Hate Speech” tour. The 15-minute film, “5 Reasons We Need Hate Speech,” is a full-throated defense of free speech that is well-produced, very clever, and often quite funny. Both the documentary and the party were hosted by Lou Perez, We The Internet’s jocular impresario whose straightforward and aw shucks style cuts straight to the heart of the matter.
The party in a downtown club space was fun and festive, a gathering of free thinkers and iconoclasts. Reason magazine’s Nick Gillespie was there (yes, he wore a leather jacket), and former American Civil Liberties Union head Nadine Strossen and author Zachary Wood joined Perez for a panel discussion. Among the questioners from the audience was journalist Jesse Singal, who appears in the film.
The documentary is now airing on YouTube and is linked below. The reasons it discusses for why we need hate speech, or more specifically need to not ban hate speech, are not particularly new. They focus mostly on how such bans not only make hate speech stronger, but that defining hate speech always winds up as a slippery slope that captures at its bottom a much wider range of speech than was ever intended.
This is sure to get the progs in a tizzy.
“Reason magazine’s Nick Gillespie…”
RS is just trolling us.
Remember the days when “liberals” were for free speech and not banning books? Pepperidge Farm remembers!
They were for speech and books that advanced their marxist/fascist totalitarian cause. They are against speech or books pointing out the horrible consequence of letting the liberals indoctrinate so many soft mushy heads in the pursuit of a stat run by these evil ideologies.
Bingo.
Appears that Nadine Strossen still is. Of course that may be why she’s former ACLU whatever.
Sadly, so much this.
They still are. Now there are just a bunch of progressives who incorrectly call themselves liberal.

And rise to the challenge we did. Nothing wrong with outsourcing the music. And playlists need not be current-events dependent. Is there a PO box to which we could mail mix tapes for future use?
::moonwalks::
Is that because the school Kept the Micheal Jackson memorial recently?
Fires up LaserDisc player and cue’s up “1999.”
When I was in HS/College I used to make mix tapes all of the time. It was horribly time consuming cuing up the songs on LP/tape/CD and trying to get that last song to fit at the very end of the tape, but it was great to send ’em off to my friends in far off places. Not sure how much they actually enjoyed the music!
One of my favorite things. Making a playlist on Spotify just isn’t the same.
Mixtape.
Wait, you name check David Dong but left out Zachary Tinkelman?
Right!? Dong and Tinkelman are the names of two people who never had a moment of peace during high school.
Nice!
I declare today a failure. Lets pack it in and try again tomorrow.
Agreed.
Did Germany Ever Learn the Lessons of the Nazis?
Bullshit. I have no idea how much, or how little, of this movement is being driven by neo-Nazi types. However, if you spend generations telling a once proud people that they are garbage, eventually one generation is going to fight back against that.
The author’s got it backwards. The Nazi party emerged as a reaction to popular resentment against the denigration of German national identity and the betrayal of Germany in the peace process and afterward by notorious, insane shitbird Woodrow Wilson and infamously retarded curmudgeon Winston Churchill. Had Germany been allowed some dignity in the aftermath of the war and not slammed with impossibly punitive reparations their economy wouldn’t have collapsed and the German people might have more easily envisioned a post-war Europe in which Germany was an equal partner.
^This^
Revenge is like revolution or blackmail. Some is never enough. In the end there will be blood.
I remember when I was younger hearing now and again on documentaries or reading in books some historians saying that it was pretty much even money whether or not the US would side with the Brits and that the Germans were genuinely surprised when it played out how it did. I didn’t really buy that until later when I read more about the buildup to the war. You could make the argument that Churchill at least somewhat redeemed himself during WW2, but Wilson…if you want to start knocking down statues of people because of the terrible things they did, start with that son of a bitch.
It’s a ridiculous hit job. It’s Deutschified “Trumphitler” nonsense.
The people in the former DDR have recent memories of being pushed around by rapey foreigners and prefer not to repeat the experience. It has diddly squat to do with Nazis..
STEVE SMITH NO BEEN EAST GERMANY!
True. No rapey foreigner can compare to STEVE SMITH in strength, stamina and voraciousness. He could out-rape the whole Soviet Army.
“German history is handled as rotten and made to look ridiculous,”
Just a relatively short portion of it.
Guilting Germans and abusing their economy after WW1 => Nazi’s
Guilting Germans and abusing their welfare state with mass immigration => Nazi’s
Seems fairly predictable to me.
The Wave was a good German movie.
It started as a short story in the Coevolution Quarterly and was set in Palo Alto from an actual experiment in the high school. It was later fictionalized in a book in 1981. Interesting and scary when looking at HS ad college students today since they have been raised to follow the authority of the schools.

“this is the Steve Howe incarnation of Yes with Geoff Downes on keyboards, Billy Sherwood on bass, Jon Davison on lead vocals and Alan White and Jay Schellen on drums.”
Howe, Downes and White. Close enough, but without Squire there really is no Yes (or apparently two of them now).
John Lodge and Carl Palmer are also part of the tour. Can’t they find a way to squeeze in King Crimson too?
$60 doesn’t sound excessive for a concert in general. Tell her you bought them in the ‘heat of the moment’.
It isn’t bad at all, its just not really in our budget right now. We are trying to get our daughters max out of pocket medical for 2020 saved up. She hit it in March this year and that was only because some billing got delayed.

I am a Muslim, I was born and bred in Germany but I do not identify as a German
Although I am born and bred in Germany, I do not identify as a German – simply because Germans do not identify with me. Despite my professional successes and activism, my fate is as grim as my Lebanese mother’s in navigating life in a country and continent rife with racism. It is only through increased visibility, vocalness and ultimately political participation that Muslim women can survive. And fortunately, the tide is beginning to turn.
Born in Germany and somehow don’t identify as German but it is everyone else that is racist. Sure…
Yeah, it’s weird. The biggest compliment I can get here is when people say, “You’re Japanese!”. I know they don’t really mean it, but it’s a two way street. They try and I try.
when people say, “You’re Japanese!”
So how often do you take your pants off?
そう言うことじゃない!
To be fair, there is a lot of that in (current or former) jus sanguinis-land. If she was born before 2000 she may not in fact be a German citizen. But that doesn’t justify for me hiding in identity politics or the ridiculous claim that Brussels is being taken over by the “far right”.

She’ll be shocked to find out that there are entire genres of pr0n that are dedicated to all of those things.
Old/young is degrading ?*
*Looks over at beautiful ballet dancer traditional wife half his age. No it isn’t.
So much brave for the rape survivor.
Tell me where you live so I can never go there.
It may be she just has an unskilled partner and also doesn’t know how to communicate what she needs. Women can get very close mentally and sometimes even achieve orgasm, but she’s doing that herself.
People are really good at making a big deal out of nothing. I say let your freak flag fly, as long as you’re not hurting anyone.
I don’t know Kevin, but it sounds like what she has to think about might make most partners uncomfortable unless they want to role play along with her kinky shit…
Awful things, uh oh…
*reads quote*
Oh, shit, honey, that’s nothing. I thought we were talking snuff porn or farting or something.
A high school classmate of mine became a probation officer in Minnesoda. As a rookie his caseload was exclusively composed of sex offenders.
When we’d go hunting, he’d tell you that his day was awful having to hear and deal with crazy sex shit from real life deviants. He’d then laugh about going home and having his wife suggest spicing up the bedroom with something “kinky. When he’d ask her what she wanted to do, she’d suggest (with a blush) something like fluffy handcuffs or a feather.
He had to learn to keep a straight face and not tell her that those things were so un-kinky in his world that they didn’t even register with him.
Finally! Someone I can help! To the SugarMobile!
I have a feeling that this ends real bad for this chick…
“Ma’am, here is your invite to the SugarFree Dungeon Experience.”
Sounds like she needs to give Creosote’s scene a go. She sounds like a natural sub.
Big trouble at the NRA.
North versus LaPierre?
Give them both knives and let them go at it.
LaPierre already won, which will slowly destroy the organization.
Bloomberg wins. It’s Cato all over again.
North is a pos grifter. I was unhappy with his becoming president, but that he turned it into a paid position instead of ceremonial one shows he was trying to build a personal empire instead of nominal advocacy/defense of 2A. His columns in American Rifleman show North to be a big government cock sucker and police fellator. His latest one was repeating the dangers of police work lie.
LaPierre should have gone a long time ago. He has been good at being a lightning rod, but failed to see how the gun grabbers have learned over time and are undercutting them now. A lot of that has been due to the NRA’s country club gun positions. Unfortonuately, LaPierre and the NRA learned the wrong lesson from the “jack booted thugs” episode some time ago.
Talking no-compromise in a political battle is like Hitler not allowing his troops at Stalingrad (and other places) to retreat and maneuver intelligently like a modern army has to. It’s idiotic. But I fear that there’s enough idiots on our side buying into this that it may split our fairly large minority and keep us from being politically effective.
What’s idiotic is not sticking to the letter and intent of the Constitution and advocating accordingly.
I don’t like the ban on bump-stocks. But if the organization doesn’t fight the “red flag” laws tooth and law, it’s completely worthless. Surrendering on laws that effectively strip gun-owners of their 2A (and 4th, 5th, and 6th A) rights, is insanity.
Agreed. Gun rights have been compromised enough as it is. To be perfectly honest, background checks and the ban on full-auto are uneven compromises to the benefit of gun grabbers, at least if the text of the 2A means anything at all.
And the Lautenberg Amendment, and the firearm prohibition on medical marijuana users, and the NFA registry, and waiting periods, and mag capacity limits…
It’s the ratchet. Every gun regulation discussion is the beginning of history; they make the assumption that the status quo is the baseline and then each additional regulation is just one, tiny, small little compromise for common sense safety for the children. Well fuck all that. There’s a Constitutional amendment that says if I want to buy a full-auto compact pistol and hide it on my person in a court room I can damn well do so, and there’s another amendment that says no state or locality can make a law to prevent it.
One is a compete canard, the other a crime committed by the state.
Indeed. National background checks only were enacted under Clinton in the Brady Bill. They aren’t that old.
The creation of the ATF was the origin of the slippery slope. After you have a bureaucracy they need more to do ad infinitum.
The nature of government.
How much gas does the Dept of Energy produce?
How much education does the Dept of Ed produce?
The ATF should be a loan office helping undeserved populations access ATF goods.
I’d like to take out a loan I don’t need to pay back for a couple cases of liquor, a new arms cabinet, and a palette of ammo.
Put that stuff on your student loan and forget about it. Seems to be the battle cry these days
Large non-profit feathers the bed of the Top Men at the same time they do a shit job at their primary mission. Who saw this coming?
I will continue to throw money at my state gun-rights org and the SAF.
1) If you want to be respected, you have to be respectable. They failed at this a long time ago, and it was apparent to anyone who looked.
2) The NRA made a huge tactical error engaging in the culture war while the Right is the underdog. It would be better to fan the sparks of interest in gun ownership on the left instead of owning the libs. Hope you enjoyed it while you could do it, NRA, but fuck you for being a bad steward of your historical legacy.
I have a NRA life membership. I don’t donate money to them. I’ve had the life membership long enough that I’m probably costing them money.
I get to vote in their elections, and my criteria for voting is simple. Current/former board members, current/former law enforcement, current/former politicians, and those recommended by the nominating board I vote against. I make rare exceptions. For example, in the most recent round of elections, I voted for someone who was recommended by the nominating board but who had won awards from SAF.
When I donate money to gun rights organization, SAF gets my money. They get results.
Finished Animal Farm over the weekend. Hadn’t read it since the 80s.
It is clear that Orwells message is: Soviets bad! Wrong people in charge!
You know who else was compared to the pigs in Animal Farm…
Rosie O’Donnell?
The French?
The View?
People forget that Orwell was a socialist, but one that clearly saw that the socialists systems of his time (fascism and marxism) were real evil things. Where he failed was in the fact he never realized that these systems couldn’t produce anything but oppressive government by the very fact that they have to be tyrannical in nature to remain viable. Any system that can not survive because it depends on the masses willingly giving up things of value and acting against human nature, will fail and require government to useforce to get compliance.
I don’t know how many people followed the story of Senior Chief Keith Barry whom had clearly been court martialed by the NAVY for political expediency, but this article, now leaves no doubt of the fact that this is going to be another of the many such “legacies” of the woke Obama administration. The most important thing to see was the comment made by Rear Admiral Patrick Lorge, whom eventually provided the exculpatory information and said this:
“As I considered whether to disapprove the findings, I was also concerned about the impact to the Navy if I were to disapprove the findings. At the time, the political climate regarding sexual assault in the military was such that a decision to disapprove findings, regardless of merit, would bring hate and discontent on the Navy from the President, as well as senators including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. I was also aware of cases from other services that became high profile and received extreme negative attention because the convening authorities upset guilty findings in sexual assault cases. … I perceived that if I were to disapprove the findings in the case, it would adversely affect the Navy. Everyone from the President down the chain and Congress would fail to look at its merits, and only view it through the prism of opinion. Even though I was convinced then, and am convinced now, that I should have disapproved the findings, my consideration of the Navy’s interest in avoiding the perception that military leaders were sweeping sexual assaults under the rug outweighed that conviction at the time.”
I have heard many such stories of military personnel that had their lives destroyed by false accusations of criminal behavior that were made into “examples” by command put in place by the the Obama administration. Primarily, it seems, so these fucks could continue the narrative that the military was a sexist/misogynistic/criminal entity that needed to be beat into submission and forced to accept the many tropes and stupid shit the leftist were peddling -such as the fact that females were kept out of special forces because of a patriarchal system, all males are rapists just waiting for a chance to get away with it, and that most soldiers were evil gun happy fucks just looking to kill people – and push for more drastic and destructive changes.
Also note the comment about which members of congress were more concerned with forcing a certain outcome for political gain…
So when do charges get filed against Lorge and Crawford?
I assume Lorge would plead guilty and be given a slap on the wrist in return for his testimony.
Right, right? This is how it works?
I would prefer an investigation into members of congress and the bureaucracy of the Obama admin regarding pushing for this SJW shit and not caring who they destroyed to get their way.
I would hope that prosecutions up the chain would lead to that.
Manic Monday: Tea-bagging is bad for you
Wow – moderation is good for you? I thought my parents were joking about that.
Considering a standard half gallon pitcher is made with 5-6 tea bags, that’s beyond overkill. She must have been more tannin then person.
I use just four bags for a gallon pitcher and that feels like plenty.
Bullshit. How the hell would you fit that many bags in the damn pitcher and still have water in it?
I didn’t click through to the article, but there’s no mention of the pitcher size. I suppose you could call a 6 gallon carboy a “pitcher”, but I’m skeptical as well.
I have never considered making tea in a carboy. Hmmm…..
“47-year-old woman told Detroit”
I think I found the problem.
Doctor Detroit?
The fat of the land
Actually, I wrote a paper on this very subject in college.
Maybe you could turn that into an article for us? And I feel bad for asking since you do heavy lifting here already.
It’s one that’s been in brain draft stage for a while, like the rest of my CPRM philosophy articles.
WRITE HARDER.
I think that’s the “thick” libertarian theory. I have some sympathy for it, both because nobody has ever seen a libertarian society, as far as I know, that didn’t have a big middle class/bourgeouis component, and because some aspect of “conservative”* culture seem necessary for a libertarian society (self-sufficiency, responsibility, etc.).
*Naturally, 90% of the argument will be around what the One True Conservative Culture actually is.
“They live off the conservative culture that others try hard to create and maintain while never paying their dues.”
Given that it’s the UK they can’t help NOT “paying their dues.” So fuck right off.
“surrender to these vices and mock the virtues such as chastity, temperance and humility, before you know it you have to sidestep the vomit on the pavement and avoid the condoms by the bus shelter every day”
Yep, that’s totally libertarians who created that situation. But do continue to kick the stuffing out of that strawman and alienate potential allies.
Libertine, Libertarian. Potato, Potahto.
“They live off the conservative culture that others try hard to create and maintain while never paying their dues”
Fuck off slaver.
Also, trad-cons support just as much government intrusion as progs (see: vice and sodomy laws and the WoD (beloved by both sides)), they just happen to not have the cultural cache at this moment in time. That could change at any moment.
Well said Q. Just cause what they want to force others to comply with isn’t the same shit as the fascist/marxist brigade doesn’t make it less totalitatian in nature.
“Avoid the condoms by the bus shelter every day on your way to work”
So, if I understand this correctly, people are getting in on while waiting for the bus?
I can understand if the Twin City folks riding the tram from 5 PM-5 AM have the time but outside at the bus shelter?
Libertarian habits of ” greed, gluttony, lust and general indulgence” ruin everything for you and me. Bastards
the consequences of their apathy
“Recoiling in disgust is not the same as apathy.”
That’s the thing about libertarians like Truss – they don’t understand they need a conservative culture to make that libertarian government policy happen.
The link between a conservative culture and libertarian policy is a real one. But, the thing about conservatives like Laura Perrins is that they don’t understand that when you expand the power and scope of the government, you fundamentally undermine the very conservative culture you want to protect. You want to have the government restrict people’s diets to stop them from being fatties? Well, don’t be too surprised when they decide to add Meatless Mondays and Locavore Fridays to the mix.
The state does not particularly serve conservative values well. The state thrives on the need for subsidy and intervention. And conservative values (actually lived and not just paid homage to) tend to lead to conditions where subsidy and intervention aren’t needed. And when you expand the state, even in pursuit of conservative values, you transfer responsibility from the individual to the collective.
And conservative values (actually lived and not just paid homage to) tend to lead to conditions where subsidy and intervention aren’t needed.
Not only aren’t needed, but are looked down on. I remember when we called it “welfare” and it was something to be embarrassed/ashamed of, because being self-sufficient and independent was valued.

STEVE SMITH NEED NO DECEPTION!
Is Sex by Deception a Form of Rape?
Laws are seeking to elucidate the problem of “rape by fraud.”
“But the law remains fuzzy in many locales.”
HIKERS FUZZY AFTER ENCOUNTERS WITH STEVE SMITH. IT SHEDDING SEASON AND HIKERS GET STICKY DURING YOU-KNOW.

If lying to women in order to get laid is rape then you better lock up about 90% of the male population.
And 100% of women. Make-up, push-up bras, etc.

“I said ABOUT six inches!”
[golf clap]
I had a woman once tell me during a conversation (before we did the freaky) that women had problems with math & visual measurement because too many guys kept telling them their stub was 7 or more inches..
I told her she was going to freak out when she saw my two footer then…
It depends on where you measure from.
Meets stranger blindfolded and consents to sex on first contact. I see.
No matter how many laws you pass, you cant fix stupid.
Fraud (at most), not rape.
If your defense argument is that I would have fucked you if you were someone else no questions asked, but fucking you-you I would have said no to, then I don’t have much sympathy for it. It;s the whole “Will you fuck me for 1 million dollars” answered with a yes, then followed with “What about for $100” which garners the response “What! Do you think I am a prostitute or something”. The proper answer there is that it was already established and we were haggling over price.
Will these be applied to people who sleep with trans people? So not woke.
Especially relevant if one doesn’t find out the partner is trans until during or after sex.
But no, I’m sure that is ok, it’s only fake names that should be an issue.
So the old joke:
Is this now a rape joke?
My Mom has been saying that Leftism is a religion for 25 years.
https://nypost.com/2019/04/26/secular-universities-now-demand-a-profession-of-faith/
She was ahead of the curve.
My aunt and uncle been saying that since the 1980s! We all thought they were ‘crazy conservatives’.
Time had made them look downright prescient.
That is some creepy shit right there.
It should be scary…
SOMEBODY SET UP US THE BELUGA WHALE

ALL YOUR BLOWHOLE ARE BELONG TO US
Aquaman lost his ride?
I pick up my bees on Sat, May 4th, if anyone wants a sort of fun day. We leave my house at 7:30 AM, are all finished putting the bees in their new home by 3 PM or so.
Cabin is empty and available for the week end for any one interested.
May 4th is also free comic book day (the first Saturday in May). It’s become a tradition for me to take out my two nephews for free comics, some food, and a run through the largest candy store in North America (it also helps that one of nephews has a birthday this week).
Your nephews are gonna have more fun than my gang. Enjoy the day with the kids, Neph.
I’ve made it a point that they both know they’re allowed to say they don’t want to go (at which point, I’ll go back to going to the midnight free comic book day event, with beer and cosplayers). When I was asking them if they still wanted to go this year, they didn’t even wait for me to finish the sentence before they said yes. I’m not sure how many more years (this year they’ll be 9 and 11) that’ll be the case, but I’ll keep taking them until they change their mind. The store we go to throws a huge celebration for the event, including getting custom posters made up (I’ve talked to the artist in the past couple of years, I’m one of the few with a full run of them). The local cops have even elicited a chuckle from me a couple of times, as they do a slow roll by the lines and play the Imperial March over their speakers.
Isn’t it also “Teach someone to homebrew day”?
It used to be. Freaking people, scheduling things for the first Saturday in May. That date is already taken. Louisville called dibs.
May the 4th also used to be Star Wars day, but Star Wars is dead. They killed it! Those dirty animals! They killed it!
That story ran its course long ago.
It is, and our LHBS runs a homebrew competition called the Iron Brewer every year on that day as well. Everyone hauls their setup to a location (which has changed a couple of times), and is assigned a random secret ingredient. They then have some time to put together a recipe and buy ingredients, then they have to make the wort there, and have it ready for judging about 6 weeks later.
You’ll be having more fun than me. I’m scheduled to sit through like 3 showings of a play full of 9 year olds…
Sat in that choir myself. No mas
I’d rather sit through a play than a piano concert by 9 year olds.
Sitting through those recitals was the absolute worst parental activity ever.
Erroneous.
6th grade orchestra is far and away the worst.
Worse than that was “band jamoboree” day, where the band from EVERY grade, 5 through 12, took turns playing their 3 songs. 3 hours of sitting in high school gymnasium bleachers, crammed to overflowing with every school-age parent in the entire town, to listen to your kid’s band play for 10 minutes.
Uffda. Yeah, those were bad too. The nice thing about them was that there shit tons of people in the bleachers so I could sneak off when my kid wasn’t actually playing.
The worst part of those concerts were the various music teachers from the school pontificating about how important music was to a student’s development. I remember one saying that the orchestra class was more important than any math or science class to develop a well rounded person.
JFC, grow up already Markey.

Intersectionality? Like intentionally speeding through a red light, causing a pileup?
Just playing political weather vane. He sees what turns the Red Guard on and is trying to get a piece of that action.
It’s at the intersection of mendacious, stupid and gullible.

Where is my free liposuction?!
That trans fat sex therapist from last week is going to have a heart attack. From all the fat shaming.
Even for a NYT op-ed, this is particularly retarded. This man is billed as a “scholar of religion and a cultural critic”. There’s just so much to mock here, but first we have this distinguished “cultural critic” making the ever so juvenile “you only don’t like her because she’d never fuck you!” argument so beloved of high school juniors:
Next, we have an especially vigorous defense of the good name of Karl Marx. This “scholar of religion” will be damned if he’ll sit there and let countries like Venezuela, North Korea, and the Soviet Union tell you they’re socialist!
Etc, etc, etc. The paper of record, ladies and gentlemen.
“cleverness, charisma and moral vitality”
Are we talking about the same person here?
Having ideas as dumb as she has and she still gets elected to a federal office takes a lot of cleverness and charisma.
At least Zizek recognizes that the usual suspects of socialism represent an idea gone awry and wonders how it can be fixed. Idiots like this don’t even acknowledge reality to begin with.
What do you do with people like this? Bezmenov was right, they’re permanently broken. No different than troo bleevers quintupling down after Jesus fails to show up on time yet again.
Jesus.
Honk, honk.
Yeah, Trump could never land a woman as good looking as AOC! Never! That’s the only reason he hates her!

He mistakes flowery language for intelligence and originality. I call it “NY Mag Syndrome”.
And he’s full of shit anyway – has anyone here ever been in an airport where CNN wasn’t the channel blaring on every single screen in the terminal?
None of his audience would be caught dead in a “smallish airport in the upper Midwest”.
Someone got a Thesaurus for Christmas.
sickly obsession with Ms. Ocasio-Cortez
They criticize a wannabe high-profile (and mildly retarded) politician and it’s “obsessive”.
Apparently challenging her ignorance and stupidity is ‘obsession’.
Sure. Let’s ignore ‘unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs’. Let her say all the stupid shit she wants.
Idiot.
As an aside, my daughter was telling me her friends believe the world will end in 12 years. She was asking me about it. I can tell she was nervous and I gently told her all was going to be fine.
That’s when I realized what a bunch of shitstained, shitheads the progressive left are. They’re good to lie and scare the shit out of kids for their agenda.
Fuck Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fucken ilk.
I had to reassure my niece the world wasn’t going to end in 2012 like one of her teachers had told her. Remember 2012 being the end times? It was even stronger than Y2K fear. The stupidity only ever seems to escalate.
The thing is it fills kids with unnecessary anxiety. It’s disgusting.
She was also taught that there’s peak fossil fuels.
I’ve decided I will deprogram her where necessary.
I remember Peak Oil scare in 1951. OMG!
There’s also Peak Gas.
My chili was grand, Peak Gas indeed!
*harumphs*
Peak Gas
Um, like Swiss said, not happening any time soon. The combo of bean soup made from the Easter ham bone and cheap beer has caused enough gastric distress in our home that I inflated our bed covers like a bouncy house this weekend.
Wife was not as impressed by the volume of gaseous output as she should have been. Some people just don’t appreciate effort.
I love the subtitle: “Only in America is the word freighted with so much perceived menace.”

“the totalitarian statism of the Soviet Union had nothing to do with the (far older) tradition of democratic socialist thought.”
Pure coincidence that their policies are nearly identical.
When someone can give me a single example of {fill in the blank} socialism raising the opportunities and the standard of living for the masses, I’ll listen.
Until then they can fuck off.
I don’t like when they say stuff like, ‘NAME ME A MARXIST PROFESSOR or NAME ME A SOCIALIST POLITICIAN!’
Er, hello? Earth to people who aren’t paying any attention.
Which is why he spent his honeymoon in the Soviet Union.
Senator Bernie Sanders obliged (as he was on Monday at a town hall hosted by CNN) to explain once more that the totalitarian statism of the Soviet Union had nothing to do with the (far older) tradition of democratic socialist thought.
Yeah. The line of reasoning from the “(far older) tradition of democratic socialist thought” leads much more directly to Hitler and the Nazis.
Wow.
I know that I should listen to Mme. Obama and “go high” here, but there are some things I’m too juvenile to allow to go unchallenged. Also, there are some people around here who tread dangerously close to some oddly wrong ideas in this regard. So, here goes:
AOC is a buck-toothed harridan whose eyes would pop right out of her head if she hit the brakes in her car too hard. She’s a Latina Olive Oyl. She’s in the category of physical appearance that, in some ways and to some people, is worse than being ugly or attractive: she’s unremarkable. She’s a solid 5.5. People like her have to rely on their personalities to attract romantic interest because they’re physically unobtrusive. On top of that, she’s an idiot. She’s a big fat idiot. With crazy eyes.
I knew plenty of girls like her in high school. Here’s their M.O.: they find a guy who’s kind of average, maybe just a touch towards handsome but not so much so that he’s endowed with tremendous self-confidence. They start paying him a bunch of attention, like really throwing themselves at him. Maybe they corner him at a party or something. They monopolize his time as much as possible, which serves two objectives: it satisfies their desperate need for attention, and it prevents him from noticing other girls. As soon as they can, they get physical. Maybe it’s just a heavy makeout session, maybe they have sex with him, but regardless, they give it up but good until they think they’ve got him locked down. Now, they’re an item, and she’s in charge. They’re never apart. She keeps him from seeing his friends. She uses manipulation and passive aggression to break him down until he’s a shell of his former self, while she’s riding high on a sense of control and self-esteem.
In short, if I didn’t know who she was and I saw her out, neither I nor any of my friends would get within 12 feet of her. We’d avoid her like the plague, because she’s got triflin’ b written all over her.
I’m torn on whether I want the Dems to primary her out of office in 2020, or have her as a permanent fixture in Congress. Both have their upsides.
And then it’s only a matter of time before she uses him to funnel millions of dollars from his super-PAC buddies into her campaign so she can pretend to be “kkkorporate-free”.
Or she just sponsors another GND 5K fun run
I’m sure Steve Scalise would face no issues if his NRA 5K fun run was actually for his re-election war chest.
I am absolutely stunned–STUNNED, I say–that she was disingenuous about where those fees were going.
Grifting like a lifelong-long congress-critter. They grow up so fast!

Checking the map, that’s pretty far from Germany. It’s easy to forget to turn off the anti-German defenses when they are so far from Germany.
The Germans had a habit of not stopping at borders.
It’s because the patriarchy never stops to ask for directions!
Lying Joe Biden
Former vice president Joe Biden repeatedly said on The View on Friday that he believed Anita Hill from the moment he heard her tale of sexual harassment by Clarence Thomas. But he previously told Sen. Arlen Specter that it was clear her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee included lies.
“Not only didn’t I vote for Clarence Thomas, I believed her from the beginning. I was against Clarence Thomas, I did everything in my power to defeat Clarence Thomas and he won by the smallest margin anyone ever won going on the Supreme Court,” Biden told “The View’s” Joy Behar.
But in 1998, Biden admitted to Specter that “It was clear to me from the way she was answering the questions, [Hill] was lying” about a key part of her testimony. The exchange was published in Specter’s 2000 memoir, “Passion for Truth: From Finding JFK’s Single Bullet to Questioning Anita Hill to Impeaching Clinton.”
The issue is important, as the media and other partisans rewrite the historical record about Hill and her accusations. The widely watched hearings revealed inaccuracies in Hill’s various versions of events and ended with 58 percent of Americans believing Thomas and only 24 percent believing Hill. There was no gap between the sexes in the results. In the intervening years, activists have relentlessly attempted to change the narrative, writing fan fiction about Hill, bestowing honors on her, and asserting that her disputed allegations were credible.
On “The View,” Biden claimed, “If you go back and look at what I said and didn’t say, I don’t think I treated her badly. I took on her opposition. What I couldn’t figure out how to do — and we still haven’t figured it out – how do you stop people from asking inflammatory questions?”
Prominent media partisans attacked Specter for asking tough questions of Hill. Or really, just for asking simple questions she struggled to answer. He began by noting that many people had reported Hill had praised Thomas and his nomination to the Supreme Court. These included a former colleague at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where both Hill and Thomas had worked years prior. Another person corroborated the colleague’s claim.
He can lighten up on the softball interviews, the DNC is gonna make sure he gets the nomination no matter what anyway.
Biden is an unrepentant, notorious bullshitter. You’d have to be a gold-plated idiot to believe a word that comes out of his mouth.
