  • Changing Passwords

The Great Glibertarian Cleansing of 2019 has started.

Being a merciful Ditka dictator, my first step in securing and degrading inactive accounts is to change the passwords. If you have received a notice from WordPress that your Glib site password has been changed, it was (most likely) me. If you would still like to keep your account active, you should be able to easily change your password again yourself from the login screen. For now.

FYI, the way I am checking if an account is active or inactive is to check when last a comment was publicly posted by that account. Because we are a wee bit paranoid around here, my policy is to delete server logs; I can’t turn over what I don’t have. So, if you haven’t commented “recently” chances are good your password will be re-set.

If you have any questions about the process, the reasons, want to pipe up and let me know you’re still alive, or wonder if in fact I am the one who changed your password, please fuck off, slaver get in touch through the website issues contact form.

    Have a great weekend.

(Yes, I am the boss of you.)

  • Sunday Evening Mostly Open Post

See? We do plan here at Glib HQ. Sorta.

I will point out that, as always, there is a nice mix of contributing writers and topics coming up this week, not that you can see the topics because I’m pressed for time and that’s all the coming attraction info you are getting! Deal with it.

You may now proceed to treat this post as you do all others…as an open post! Have a great evening, Glibs.

  • Woke Charmed will not be seen tonight

Mythical Libertarian Woman is taking a much need rest to recover from re-capping the episodes.

She does want you to know that Season One of Woke Charmed is now available on Netflix for those brave enough to watch along.

    https://www.netflix.com/title/81013657

Also, that this actress, playing a college student, is 35.

    But she identifies as 24.

  • What’s Happening This Week…Or Not (for some of you)

    Greetings, Glibs.

You know I love each and every one of you. Perhaps some more than others. 😉

However, some of you are about to be unglibbed.

As you all know, we are well over 1 million comments. Since our humble beginnings in February 2017, we’ve had 3,336 posts published (well, 3,337 if you count this one). Registered users stands at 843.

Of those 843 registrants, how many do you recall seeing?

    And there’s the rub.

Each registration takes up space in the site database. We’re a bit of a shoestring operation; a larger database starts to translate into higher server bills.

That’s not the main problem, though. Security is pretty good here at Glib HQ. DreamHost does a good job on the server side, and I have a variety of measures and contingencies in place within our WP installation and elsewhere. But there is no denying that having a large number of registered-but-inactive users — people who have the ability to comment and throw links into those comments — starts to be a security issue.

Of those 843 registrants, fewer than 200 are/have been active on the site. That leaves a significant number of registered accounts just floating around out there.

You know where this is going.

Starting this week, I’ll be degrading those unused accounts as a first step toward eliminating them. This will be a gradual process, so registered users who want to remain thus, have a chance to do so.

Anyone who is active on the site will not degraded…unless they pay extra to Webdom for the service, of course. If you DO find that you have trouble logging in, please get in touch with me through the usual tech support form.

OK, now that the housekeeping is out of the way, let’s go over what will be posted on the site this week for your edification and delight.

    —————————————

There are three things you can count on in life. Well, not really three. There’s taxes and death, and…. No, I guess it is three. Links! Of course we’ll have links! Banjos, Swiss, Brett L, OMWC, Spud, and perhaps other designated hitters, will bring you links.

On Monday, Animal has another installment of bolt gun history on tap for us, and I have a super easy recipe in the evening.

Banjos attempts to recap Spygate for us Tuesday midday. Poor Mythical Libertarian Woman says she’s too crazy busy at work all weekend to get time to watch and write for you about Woke Charmed. Personally, I think she just needed a week off from it. We will have something related for you in the usual time slot, however.

Wednesday (uh-oh!). Be prepared for your regularly scheduled lunch hour horror show The Hat & The Hair! Later on, Tonio stops in with Part 8 of The Glibening.

In the Thursday midday spot, Trashy takes on the EPA in the next episode of Standard Libertarian Disclaimer. I.B. McGinty shares Part Two of his excellent Murphy bed project in the just-before-bedtime post.

Friday, everyone’s favorite mother stops by midday, and one or another Cryptid will be sure to bring you an evening post.

Get into the weekend with Mexican Sharpshooter’s beverage post at the normal time Saturday. Then, Spudalicious brings us Saturday evening links. Hopefully, he’ll be more inspired this week so I don’t have to listen to OMWC cackle about good help being so hard to find.

Want to be among the illustrious Glibs noted on the Contributing Writers’ page? Get busy! You can see we accept a huge variety of content and are truly grateful for same.

See you in the funny papers!

    Lake One-of-Those Roosevelts

  • Things to Come – Week of May 27th

In the future, everyone will have a narrowed gaze!

Right. Preview. I have it here somewhere… The cryptids left the office a complete mess. Not that I am going to go argue with STEVE SMITH or ZARDOZ about office etiquette, but would it kill them to have someone mop up after SEA SMITH? ….Ah. Found it. So, the week to come:

Monday – Animal continues to fill us in on Bolt Guns, in part 4 of his series. SP polls us on another libertarian hot button issue… if any of you are reading on Memorial Day that is.

Tuesday – robc takes a swing at the UBI (if he says fund it with a universal land tax, I am going to cow butt him…). MLW continues the death march through the first season of “Woke Charmed”.

Wednesday – Run. Hide. Make your sanity roll. The Hat and the Hair…times 2! First, SugarFree tells us a tale of wonder and terror, and later on CPRM animates them for us!

Thursday – kinnath collaborates discusses Russian hospital. Is good reading, you will be making. Cryptid Advice shows up later on.

Friday – End of the month mean “What Are We Reading” by the Glibs Staff. The Cryptid of the Week sends us into the weekend.

Weekend – OMWC, Spudalicious, Mexican Sharpshooter and Not Adahn keep us entertained and informed.

Weekly links by me, Banjos, BrettL and OMWC.

Enjoy your free reign in the comments section.

Good afternoon, my dear Glibs. And the rest of you, too.

For those of you still on Team Google. SMDH.

Those storms in the lower midsection of the country? “The Arkansas River, which was just above 37 feet, or 9 feet above flood stage, at Muskogee, Oklahoma, was expected to eventually reach 43.5 feet. Officials encouraged residents in several communities along the river to leave their homes.” Still not good and might get worse.

I hate Netflix more and more.

    Ouch.

I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone here that J.D. Tuccille is OK in my book. “If my wife and I and Anthony himself have properly done our jobs, he’ll be equipped to take care of himself and to offer aid to others. And he’ll be thoroughly immunized against the promises, lies, and temptations of demagogues.”

And on that encouraging note, I’ll leave you with some music. But never fear, I’ll be back with a new poll tonight, if all goes well with the database server upgrade!

  • Things to Come – Week of May 20th

Back from our local gaming CON. Tradition calls for getting hammered on Saturday night, and dragging oneself away on Sunday morning. If naught else, you may call me a keeper of tradition.

So no time for witty banter, just your weekly preview, and the open comments section.

Monday – Animal continues the Bolt Guns series, with Part 3. Yusef (well, whatever name he is using today) visits a park.

Tuesday – Pie ponders welfare and the UBI. MLW continues her forced march through “Woke Charmed”.

Wednesday – If your sanity and survives the Hat and the Hair, you will have to stay buckled up to deal with another episode of Tonio’s “The Glibbening”.

Thursday – ElspethFlashman explains Mentally Incompetent to Stand Trial. SP has a poll.

Friday – trshmnstr opines upon prosperity. The Cryptid of the Week returns to give links.

Weekend – Not Adahn, Mexican Sharpshooter and OMWC will keep us entertained and informed.

  • Things to Come – Week of May 13th

“You see, we have cured balding and pudginess in the Future!

Greetings Glibertarians. I bring you word from the Future! Sort of. Kind of. A bit. OK, I bring you a preview of the upcoming posts on this here site. You all have continued to be responsive to our my begging for material. And lo, it is good. I thank you all.

Monday – Bolt Guns are back. Brought to you by Animal. Nephilium introduces us to Viva. No, not the great album by Los Straitjackets. Just read it and see what he is talking about.

Tuesday – Ozymandias takes on Public Education. MLW sees if she can make it through another overly-woke episode of Charmed.

Wednesday – Hide ya brain, hide ya soul…SugarFree is Coming. And a very special appearance by the beloved Gojira, to round out the day.

Thursday – First, more mil-diorama from Yusef…er, Checker of Thermostats. Second, DOOM! by robc.

Friday –  Q lets us have whatever is on his mind when he writes. Our favorite lady of the evening/economics pundit joins us as well…giving the Cryptids a night off.

Weekend – Beer, the Stars, Links. Previews. Hurrah! OMWC, mexican sharpshooter, Not Adhan and company will keep us amused.

The weekday links must flow! So I will be on the case, with Banjos and OMWC.

BONUS: Music Link – Having mentioned Los Straightjackets, I must link this song.

The comments are open, and belong to you!

  • Things to Come – Week of May 6th

“You see what I did to this animal that displeased me..don’t you let me down, or I will be wearing your hide, next.”

A bit late today…I got caught up in a dispute down on the Ricola wrapping line. Man, those things hurt when they get fired out of a crossbow. Anyways, order has been restored, and I am free to give you a sneak peek at the week to come.

Monday – Beer it Forward returns. Tulip pickles things. Hmmm… a very consumable oriented day it seems. (Animal will likely return the next Monday, continuing the Bolt Guns series).

Tuesday – Suthen talks trees. MLW talks Woke Charmed.

Wednesday – SugarFree continues to molest our minds. Not Adhan has a thought on STEVE SMITH.

Thursday – ron73440 gives us dark humor. Sensei continues his Japanese lessons via Anime titles.

Friday – wdalasio ponders culture. Cryptid of the Week visits.

Weekend – The usual suspects will be rounded up – OMWC, mexican sharpshooter, Not Adahn, and others.

Daily links will continue from me, Banjos and OMWC.

We have had a good response to our plea for materials, as you can see. However, there is always room for your contributions! As in, next week and after that…  Thank you for your continued support of our humble site.

    The comments are all yours.
