Brett’s life has turned into a telenovela….

Murdock:  Don Brett, la transacción de la semana pasada…

Brett:  ¡MURDOCK! ¡No me digas malas noticias! ¡Dame el dinero!

Murdock: No tengo tu dinero … Los venezolanos simplemente ofrecen su crédito. Es solo que tienen.

es que sola tienen…

[cue intense music]

[cut to Brett]

[cut to Murdock]

Brett: El crédito es que solo tienen …

[more intense music]

Murdock: Don Brett … perdóname.

[even more intense music]

[cut to Brett] [Brett wipes his nose]

Brett:  Lleva a Murdock al pantano. Envíales la cabeza de Murdock a sus amigos venezolanos y diles que quiero mi dinero.

Murdock: ¡NO! Don Brett lo siento!

Brett:  Callate….

Too bad for Murdock…Brett isn’t in a forgiving mood.

A partisan for Guaido was arrested by Venezuelan authorities.  Good luck to that guy.

Should you be gay, I guess you can add homophobia to the list of reasons never to go to Cuba.

A helicopter crashed among protesters in Venezuala, killing 7.  Had they paid Brett, Murdock might have been alive to safely land it.  Moral of the story:  don’t owe Brett money or people will die.

A Guatemalan child dies while in US custody at a family reunification center in Texas, apparently the third since December.

Finally, I’m just going to leave this one here.  I have no comment other than I didn’t think the whole trans thing was going to fly in Mexico.

Here’s some tunes.  Kick Thursday in the Jueves.

Murdock is trying to say the Venezuelans only have their credit to offer. Brett retorts their reputation is just what they have. Well, at least that’s how I read it.

The Cuban government has cancelled the country’s 12th annual march against homophobia.

12th Annual? Che Guevara must be rolling in his grave that Cuba had any such things.

    1. leon

Man… I read it as the 12th march against homosexuality

      1. I’m surprised they had a second.

    2. tarran

Che Guevara must be rolling in his grave that Cuba had any such things.

My guess is that the homophobe would be cheerfully consulting the state security services’ dossiers on those who attended the previous 11 and planning the order in which they would be rounded up for execution or imprisonment.

  8. Raston Bot

Describing the boy’s medical condition, the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the boy had “a severe infection in the frontal lobe that showed no improvement, even after a surgical intervention to stabilize the pressure inside the head area.”

    infection in the frontal lobe?

Late last year, a 7-year-old girl from Guatemala who entered New Mexico last year with her father died of dehydration and shock. Her death was followed by that of an 8-year-old Guatemalan boy who had initially been diagnosed with a common cold and fever.

  9. Pope Jimbo

Noor found guilty. Somalis hardest hit.

Local Somali hustlers do not disappoint. They have come out guns a blazing to use the Noor verdict as a way to accuse the rest of Minnesoda of racism and other bad things.

News of Noor’s guilty verdict has sent shockwaves and sparked outrage in the Somali community. Many community members say Noor’s trial exposed systemic racism in the justice system and widened a deep rift between the community and law enforcement. They also worry that the ruling will deter young people from joining the police force. Others have raised concerns about the third-degree murder conviction, demanding an outside investigation and calling for the reopening of Noor’s case.

Also, this quote from Noor’s uncle cannot be passed up:

“I’m very disappointed and sad, and the rest of the family feels the same way,” said Dahir, 70. “We feel bad about this. He had the right to protect himself.”

I swear the quotes in that article seem to be generated for the sole purpose of getting Little Mogadishu burned to the ground by a mob of Minnesodans who are fed up with the ingrates.

    1. Pan Zagloba

Sue me but I’m not 100% convinced that, had the races been switched, the verdict would have been the same, either.

I think we should congratulate Cuba for not executing gays the way they did when Che Gueverra was in charge of their justice system.

  12. Rebel Scum

There was a process. What more do you want?

“What about Brett Kavanaugh? Did he have due process when he was questioned by you in that committee? And did he have due process being innocent before proven guilty by Democrats in that process?” Baier asked.

“I’m only smiling because, like, he got a really good job out of the whole thing. Okay, he’s like on the Supreme Court of the United States. Yes, I think he did. We had a process, and that process was a hearing before the Senate. And that hearing went on and then new evidence came out and that was evidence from Dr. Blasey Ford, who even my colleagues on the other side of the aisle who supported Judge Kavanaugh and voted for him, said that she was credible. She came forward with her story,” Klobuchar answered.

She continued, “What bothered me is after my colleague said she was credible, then the next thing you hear is really this basic, political, I think, response. With Judge Kavanaugh basically, not just dissing her story, he has a right to put his story on, but basically politicizing the whole judiciary with how he acted.”

You can keep saying she was credible over and over until you’re blue in the face. Doesn’t change the fact that she is not, and never was at all credible to anyone with more than 2 brain cells.

      1. Pope Jimbo

Which GOP-er on that committee called her credible? I don’t feel like looking it up myself.

        1. libertarianjoe

I honestly don’t want to look it up either haha. I remember their being one or two on Team Red who called her credible really early on in the whole fiasco, but before all the shit started to hit the proverbial fan.

I don’t remember the specifics, that information just isn’t indelible in my hippocampus I guess

        2. DEG

Warning: auto-play video for both links.

A quick search shows none on the committee called Ford credible; however, my quick search showed Richard Shelby called her credible and Donald Trump said she was “a very credible witness”.

“but basically politicizing the whole judiciary with how he acted”

Yeah it’s his fault that Democrats attacked him with baseless accusations. He didn’t have to make it political.

      1. Fatty Bolger

Here, I’ll try to explain it in a way she’ll understand: Ford threw shade, but Kavanaugh clapped back with a perfect response that broke the Democrats.

    6. Pope Jimbo

Are you throwing shade at Heartland Amy?

  13. Pope Jimbo

Speaking of the Noor case ….

Jamar Clark’s family’s lawyers want a “transformative” settlement too

Jamar Clark was the oft incarcerated felon who police tried to arrest after he was interfering with EMT’s who were helping his injured girlfriend. A struggle ensued and Clark ended up shot. Forensic evidence pretty much backed the cops up on this shoot. But the local BLM brigade hyped the shooting up.

I also can’t quite figure the story out because it sure seems like the City Council is also dying to pay more than the paltry settlement that was previously proposed.

The rejected amount in the Clark case is well below $100,000, according to sources with knowledge of the proposed settlement.

“The settlement was rejected [because] we felt the number was way too low,” Council Member Phillipe Cunningham posted on Facebook. Cunningham later deleted the post, saying he had been informed that he wasn’t allowed to comment.

Am I missing something? The whole story seems to be that since the city paid out $20M for Noor’s actions, they should also pay out millions to Clark’s family. For racial justice or something.

“Police: Utah man dead after teen attacks him for sex assault cops say didn’t happen

Logan police detectives reviewed video footage of the incident that showed Fife walking past the girl but authorities said no sexual assault occurred.

LOGAN — A 62-year-old man is dead after police say a 17-year-old boy attacked him for sexually assaulting his younger sister, though investigators found video footage that showed the assault never occurred.

On April 23 about 3 p.m., the 16-year-old girl said Michael Fife, 62, sexually assaulted her while the two were on a Cache Valley Transit District bus, according to Logan police.

The girl immediately called her 17-year-old brother and told him about the alleged assault, police said.

Minutes later, police said the brother located Fife getting off the bus near 300 South and 100 West, ran toward him and assaulted him.

Fife fell to the sidewalk, suffered head injuries and was left unconscious, while the brother fled on foot, according to police.”

The apartheid accusations just enrage me. There are quite a few Muslim Israeli citizens and they enjoy the exact same rights, responsibilities, and freedoms as every other citizen. There are even Muslim members of the Knesset. Also, IIRC, it is the Palestinian Authority than bans Jews from entering and refuses to issue work permits for WB residents to work in Israel (like all those poor folk who once worked at SodaStream).

          1. Old Man With Candy

I should say “same lack of gun rights.” Outside of the military, gun rights for all Israeli citizens are not noticeably different than Californians or New Yorkers.

        2. DEG

I found a Times of Israel article on Israeli gun laws and a Library of Congress write-up of Israeli gun laws. I see no mention of religion; however, my impression is legally owning a gun in Israel isn’t easy and license issue is similar to US “may-issue” style.

Disney’s ‘Tolkien’ Movie Cuts Out the Christian Faith That Inspired His Life and Work

I saw a trailer a few days, and while it looked pretty, it looked like they were going to go overboard in tying his writing directly to his experiences in WWI.

    1. Pan Zagloba

The film focuses on the early influences of Tolkien’s life, so these cuts may be justifiable.

“What is this script? We want sexy young Tolkien, not Professor Dad Tolkien!”

“Serious Tolkien fans might wonder why the film offers no hint of another vital influence: his friendship with Christian author and apologist C.S. Lewis. But Karukoski wanted to explore the earliest events and experiences that helped shape Tolkien’s astonishing imagination, and Lewis arrives later, in post-war Oxford,” Loconte explained. “The story of Lewis, Tolkien, and the Inklings—the circle of Christian authors and friends who met weekly to discuss literature, faith, and other weighty topics—deserves its own film treatment.”

      I…I thought I was joking.

  23. Sex is the basic need of every mature human; male and female. Today, medical research has discovered some abnormality among the men during having a sex. If a man releases a volume of the sperms or a semen more than 5.5 ml, then it will be considered as the hyperspermia that is the kind of sexual unusualness. Basically, many a men having this problem still do not have any idea about what hyperspermia is the. They consider it the strength and better for them to reproduce all the babies. If a male discharges such amounts of the sperms in every sex intercourse encounter, then it may cause weakness, poor erection and many other fertility issues that may be critical to the happy use of penis.

    https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/05/brian-sims-political-fanaticism-identity-politics/

It is tempting to lean toward stupidity as an explanation for Sims’s shenanigans, if only because that is the most statistically likely scenario when the subject in question is a member of the Pennsylvania state legislature, as witless a collection of moldering goofs and ravening mediocrities as you will find in any of our state capitals.

But let’s not give short shrift to the insanity option. Sims — who holds elected office and previously worked for the Philadelphia Bar Association — offered a cash bounty to his social-media followers for identifying information with which to “dox” three teenage girls who were praying outside the same clinic. Mentally normal adult men do not go around photographing teenaged girls and then trolling for their names on social media in order to facilitate harassing them. Generally speaking, adult men who go around taking photographs of teenaged girls are considered creeps; Representative Sims is a homosexual, which may spare him the charge of lechery in this matter, but his behavior is still pretty weird.

The times being what they are, perhaps we should classify political fanaticism of the social-media performance-art variety as a kind of insanity. Political fanatics such as Sims live in the shadows between the idée fixe and outright monomania. The inferior kind — and Sims is the inferior kind — fixate on terminology as a substitute for ideas, and for them buzzwords are a necessary intellectual crutch. Hence, Sims’s shouty accusations of “white privilege” in the face of a young woman who, as she pointed out with a smile, is not white. Intersectionality — it is a bitch.

What should be remarkable (but is not remarkable) about the Sims video is the superficiality and banality of his thinking. His political arguments are utterly sophomoric, e.g. demanding that the elderly lady interrupt her Rosary to tell him how many unwanted children she is clothing and feeding. The taunt is childish: No one ever asks critics of capital punishment how many murderers they’re willing to bring into their homes. The Pennsylvania state legislature is not the Olympus of politics, but even that repulsive body deserves better than this stuff. It would be tempting to describe this as dorm-room discourse, but most kindergartens do not have dormitories.

Alllll the way at the bottom of his article:

White House officials offered me and others it disqualified a lesser credential called a six-month pass. They say it will grant equivalent access, but for various technical reasons, that isn’t true.

    3. one true athena

The WH should revoke all the ‘permanent’ press passes, and make them get new ones through the exact same process as getting an AR-15 in Maryland. It might be instructive.

  27. Re; the dark humor thread earlier. In terms of college humor.

When you think about Frank “Monkeyboy” Cho’s original comic “University^2” for U of Maryland – https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1249096 (definitely worth buying the whole collection) – see also https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1261376

Hard to believe Liberty Meadows actually survived 5 whole years in syndication – although not that hard to believe when you see the stuff that actually got rejected by the censors 🙁 One of the few truly laugh out loud comic strips since the end of C&H (although Pearls before Swine has it’s moments – art is severely lacking).

Frank Cho is a freaking national treasure even though he’s essentially been un-personed from professional comics (though I highly recommend buying his collections and the recent TPB/Hardcover collection of “Skybourne” by Boom Comics.). Also preordered his cover variant for the upcoming Vampirella book from Dynamite.

          Hey YUFUS!
I assisted in repairing a furnace the other day, and nobody got the joke about the thermostat
It was a lennox unit that wouldnt fire, and both the pressure switch and the board had been replaced. I blew through both of the pressure switch lines into the burner, and….1 was completely blocked. Some wire to clean it out and, BAM!

          1. It exploded?

I thought he added some garlic.
