“How ‘bout my Packers?” Sunday Evening Open Post

OK, I didn’t actually get to watch it, because thanks to all the Southern Californians in Arizona, we were subjected to the Rams/Steelers game.

I’m glad the Rams lost. So there!

Anyway, we have some great stuff coming up this week, but I’m too busy to list it all. I will say we have a very special Veteran’s Day post in the midday tomorrow from Swiss.

Enjoy your Sunday Evening Open Post!

I’ll see all y’all tomorrow night.

    Happy Veterans Day Eve, all!

    1. Armistice Day.

        Remembrance Day.

        1. Libertesian

          Marine Corps birthday.

          1. Ozymandias

            YUUUUUUUTTTT!
            KILL! KILL! KILL!
Ahem. Apologies. I m may have been overcome by the spirit, as they say.

Happy Birthday to all of my brethren and sestren who were suckered in by their lyin’-ass recruiters. Notwithstanding everything that’s happened (including the anthrax series), I remain terribly proud of getting my emblem. As one of my salty, prior-enlisted mentors taught me:

Never confuse ‘Marines’ with the ‘Marine Corps.’ It’s why it’s “The Marines Hymn” and not the “Marine Corps Hymn.” Marines are the ones who fight and die; the Marine Corps is an organization located in DC. That’s also why the EGA is called a “Marine Emblem” and not the “Marine Corps emblem…” and don’t ever let me catch you calling it a fucking ‘EGA’ there, stud warrior.

Happy Veteran’s Day to all of you who served.

            This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
            But we in it shall be remember’d;
            We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

          2. Drake

            Happy birthday devil-dog!

          3. Ozymandias

Thank you for your service, Marine.

          1. Gustave Lytton

            Here’s your Anzac biscuit.

        2. Swiss calls it Veteran’s Day, so that’s the official name here at Glibs. If you’d ever met him, you’d know not to ever contradict the man. He’s scary tough. (That’s why he’s my attorney!)

          1. Rhywun

Agreed. I am not English or Australian and my ‘Murican calendar says Veterans Day, dagnabit.

          2. DEG

I like Swiss, but I will still call it Armistice Day.

          3. Gustave Lytton

And that one in May, Decoration Day.

      2. Rhywun

There is some supporting evidence for this assertion too.

      3. DEG

        Yes.

        TWC said it best:

Then again, once it became abundantly clear that The War To End All Wars did no such thing maybe it became imperative to distance ourselves.

        1. Rhywun

Hm. That is a good point. Whatever happened to that person?

          1. DEG

            No idea.

          2. The Bearded Hobbit

I actually conversed with him over email from TOS. His website is DOA.

          3. DEG

Ah, that explains the lack of updates over the last year. I checked in every now and then because I like his writing.

Hopefully all is well with him and his family.

It’s a very somber day in which we must not forget how many women are taken by breast cancer.

I’m loving the new avatar. I always imagine the question is “How was Lalla Ward?”

          1. Sean

IMO, it’s a tough choice between Romana 1 & 2. Sure, 2 was blonde and perkier, but 1 was a bit more sultry.

          2. Gustave Lytton

But Tom Baker was only married to 2.

          5. DEG

            K-9 was amusing.

Yeah, the Doc and that Romana got naked together.

Speaking of companions, Sophie Aldred turned 57 in August. Where are the years going?

I’ve seen very little of her era or later.

Need to add some more box sets to my wish list.

          3. Plinker762

Do you have a permit for that cannon?

  3. Nephilium

    Go Browns.

And the Ravens/Bengals game was a joke. When the entire fourth quarter is garbage time, it’s not really a game.

    1. Right? We sorta watched it through my VPN, but really, I find blow-outs to be very boring.

    2. They didn’t switch you to a more competitive game?

NYC got Giants/Jets. The only good thing was that the Jets won, so seeing the Giant shill media try to spin that away should be fun.

      1. Rhywun

The only football media I come across is what the NY Post writes, which is basically “they both suck”. Who are the Giants shill media?

    3. Lackadaisical

      Didn’t watch, but damn.

We’ve been squeaking by all season, only to lose to the browns.

      1. Rhywun

        Yeah, WTF?

  4. AlmightyJB

Damn 8:20 Viking kickoff. Going to be tired tomorrow.

    1. westernsloper

NBC is the one network I don’t get on antenna. A short search and holy fuck NBC is streaming. Speaking of antenna tv stations, seriously how many damn PBS stations do we need?

      1. westernsloper

My bad, it is a stream “preview” and will expire in 30 min unless I verify my cable provider. Bastards.

          1. westernsloper

Oooh, muchas gracias me amigo. Bookmarked.

          2. PudPaisley

No problem. For college football I use sportsurge.net and from there use crackedstreams.

        1. OneOut

          Get the NFL AP.

          You can watch it there.

          1. westernsloper

I am not big on watching sports on my Ipad or phone. I have apple tv but never use it. My experiences with legit streaming is you still have to verify a cable or sat provider. I don’t have one because literally the only thing I watch on TV is football and the occasional debate during election time.

  5. AlmightyJB

Girls have to do something with those Women’s Studies degrees.

    1. Jarflax

I think you may be confused about who gets women’s studies degrees.

      1. I was gonna say, I’d expect applications to Starbucks and Michaels to be up

      3. I like to study women.

        1. Count Potato

  7. FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

I’ve decided to host a Great Glib Debate Series that will consist of a point-counterpoint/support-dissent for various topics of interest. Since I would personally have logistical problems doing a before/after scoring, we’ll just have a survey monkey for who won the debate ex post facto. This will be held as a single elimination tournament and a topic will be randomly assigned to you and your opponent, so you may end up arguing something that you find stupid or irrelevant; keep that in mind if you decide to sign up (I know you can’t resist Hyperbole). Once I have a list of participants, I’ll post the list of topics and set the match ups in a random fashion. Once the match ups are set, I’ll email the participants the topic and their side. They’ll then have a week to write a short (let’s keep it to half a page) argument. They will then be posted simultaneously and the Survey Monkey to vote will be up for 24 hours. Rinse and repeat. I’d like to have a debate once a week (schedule permitting).

Please do sign up. As host, I will not be scoring, the Glibertariat will decide the winner. However, I reserve the right to DQ participants for personal attacks on the opponent (let’s keep this civil… as much as possible).

Sound good? Interested? Then reach out to TPTB and they’ll give you my email.

Current participants are: Jarflax, leon, Larry Joe and Ozymandias. If no one else enters, I will convert to a Round Robin. Last chance! Entries will be locked as soon as the first NSFW pic shows up tonight!

    1. Gustave Lytton

What’s the over-under on how many times this https://youtu.be/5hfYJsQAhl0 will be posted in response to a point/counterpoint?

    3. Tundra

I’ll be chirping from the bench.

    4. Biff

As one of the most recent incarnations of Tulpa, I’ll throw my hat in the ring for the debate. And as far as debate skills go, I’m truly a master.

  8. The Bearded Hobbit

I’ve been avoiding NFL games for years but have started back watching. I defaulted to the Packers because it is my understanding that they are the only franchise in the NFL that doesn’t steal money from the community but rather funds by way of their fanatic fanbase.

Great game today, the Panthers put up good resistance. Ditto the KC game earlier.

    1. straffinrun

Could only watch the highlights. Grrrr. Congrats to the Pack, but WTF kind of call is that?

      1. westernsloper

That is standard in the NFL these days. Tackle the qb and it is ruffing the passer.

      2. The Bearded Hobbit

Didn’t follow the link but I assume it was the bullshit Roughing the Passer call. Fun to watch the game as the field filled with snow.

        1. straffinrun

Yeah, that was it. The “rougher” would have had to defy physics and stop himself in mid air after Rogers let the ball go.

  9. DEG

It definitely helped make me a car guy.

  10. OneOut

So far in the first quarter my beloved Cowboys are looking as bad as the Fighting Deplorables.

    It’s a bigly sad day.

Imagine thinking that Bill Gates is simply “Living off” his net wealth.

    https://twitter.com/kenklippenstein/status/1192527236693417985

    1. Michael Bluth

Man, I’m getting really sick of all the mooches and commies that think they are entitled to anyone/everyone’s wealth. Screw you and get a job you damn hippies!

  12. Nikkodemus

The refs did it again during the Packer game (and yes, I saw the phantom roughing call on Carolina, and I agree it was BS). 2-3 minutes left and Carolina gets the ball. 2 missed intentional grounding calls that should have gone against the Panthers, and a couple crap penalties against the Pack on that particular drive. The kicker about it is that I truly think McCafree got in on that last play, but one of his guys was standing right in front of the camera that’s placed down the goal line. So I guess it ended up a wash.

I still think they deliberately call or miss calls in situations like that to add excitement to the end of games.

    1. The Bearded Hobbit

Yeah, there were a bunch of bad calls that game. I don’t follow that closely but I understand that is the norm this year.

      Oh, and “fuck off Tulpa”

  13. Tres Cool

Jugsy’s doge, and 11 year-old Boxer has dementia (vets call it Cognitive Behavioral Disorder). Having seen her decline (the doge, not Jugsy) over the past couple months, we’ve established an expiration date of 11/15.

For anyone dealing with a loved one, or has dealt with anyone with dementia- I have a great understanding and some empathy. Obviously Im going to equate doge with a person- but I understand.

    1. Tres Cool

      damn! /NOT going to….

    2. DEG

      Sorry.

      1. Tres Cool

Much obliged. Save it for Saturday tho.

    3. Count Potato

      Sorry 🙁

    4. Gender Traitor

Please give doggie & Jugsy lotsa love for the next few days.

All sympathy from another critter lover.

    5. Sir Digby

Sorry, Tres. My mother is bad enough that she can’t live in her home safely any more, so I have to begin the process of getting her “committed”, for lack of a better word (she will fight it fiercely).

      1. Spudalicious

        My sympathies.

        1. Sir Digby

Thank ya, spud. She needs it, even if she doesn’t want it.

      2. Chafed

Sorry SD. That’s awful. Get the legal stuff in place if your mom hasn’t already.

        1. Sir Digby

That is definitely in the cards. And, believe me, I think about your article a lot!

      3. Gender Traitor

So sorry, Diggy! We went through that with my mother. We kept her at home (my sister lived with her) and in “adult day care” as long as we could – until the day I brought her home and she couldn’t climb the three steps up to the back door. And a few minutes later, she couldn’t stand up at all.

        1. Sir Digby

Oooh… sorry to hear that, GT. My mother doesn’t seem bad, but her memory is so disorganized, and she’s so poor that living in her home is just unsustainable, especially when it comes to her taking her meds. She just can’t do it on her own, and she’s making bad decisions–even with home health care during the day.

Also the title of the post is packers, so-

I had to demote a guy at work the other day. He went from electrician to the bottom production guy.

That’s about like a keebler elf getting demoted to a fudgepacker.

    1. DEG

      I like that picture.

      Sorry about work.

    2. The Bearded Hobbit

      Welcome back, we’ve missed you.

And I can totally agree with you about the demotion. I’ve worked in high risk situations and people follow the rules or they die or they are fired. Pick one.

      1. Lachowsky

I think he got a good deal. He was incompetent at being an electrician. So he got to get a job that he can still make money at, albeit at a much lower rate. He is free to quit and go elsewhere.

        My conscience is clear.

        1. westernsloper

I got promoted at about the same time as you. This is my first experience in a supervisory role in the states due to working overseas for a decade. I find americans to be a bunch of whiny bitches compared to the third world shitholes I worked in for so long where guys felt lucky to just have a job. What happened to going to work, doing your fucking job and keeping your goddamned mouth shut? I am ready to fire everyone or quit and get a job at McDonalds.

      2. Lachowsky

I’ve missed yall too. I got a job that requires much more of my attention, and my baby is a year old and highly mobile.

This significantly reduces my free time available to interact on this venue.

I still read most of the threads.

        Yall are great.

There’s definitely a learning curve with the new pizza oven, but I’m not unhappy with the first results.

    https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/mdNfT_vkSQmCafGBkk39Qg.Zk3RRofleNhe6xm-rnHh04

    https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/tGQDlvfLRkinrNr7QLhi_w.rscJHbhWv4Hk3Os2uXbksf

    1. What kind of pizza oven? Aso, dude work on your dough tossing, one can’t blame the oven on trapezoid shaped Za.

      1. straffinrun

I like it. Every bite is gonna be a little different than the last.

        1. Pizza is round, and this isn’t just an opinion, pizza dough, properly made, needs to be ‘stretched’, to get that proper crispy/doughy center and doughy/crispy crust. The only method that can achieve this is hand tossing and hand tossing results in a round pizza, ‘ipso ergo’ round pizza is the only true and proper pizza. Its’ science. There, argue that in your little Glib debate club thing.

          1. westernsloper

The only method that can achieve this is hand tossing

            Wrong again.

          2. Look, you can get a passable pizza with the old press and smush technique but if you want a real pizza you need to be able to spin/throw it two-three feet in the air, and do that catch on your fists, pop it up and down a few times thing, then slap it on the stone. It may seem like theater but it is a culinary imperative.

          3. westernsloper

Depends on what kind of crust you are going for. My preference is a thin crust with little air. To achieve that a rolled dough is the ticket. Stretching is needed but the tossing and spinning is not. They make dough sheeters for a reason. The perfect pizza crust is that reason.

          4. That’s a cracker not a pizza crust.

          5. westernsloper

Wrong again. 0 for 2. Crackers crackle, a proper thin crust is chewy yeasty deliciousness.

          6. straffinrun

“Pizza is round” and so is a tautology.

      2. Spudalicious

I effed up the dough. I let it proof too long and the top dried out. Pretty much impossible to make a circle.

The pizza oven is an Il Fornino Platinum Series.

        https://www.ilfornino.com/platinum-plus-ilfornino-wood-fired-pizza-oven-1007-square-inches-cooking-area-no-cart/

        1. westernsloper

Wow, nice. How hot does that thing get?

          1. Spudalicious

It’ll go to 900 degrees. The wood I have available at the moment wouldn’t get it above 600. Part of the learning curve is that that makes a difference. The bottom cooked faster than the top.

The nice thing about the oven is that it was half the price of a masonry oven.

          2. westernsloper

I built one out of scrap plate I had laying around. It is ugly but it cooks a pizza but needs some modifications. I have a fire box I need to weld onto it and I think I could get better heat. I am just too lazy to get it for the past six months.

          3. westernsloper

My homemade oven had the same problem. I found cooking the pie on a pizza pan for a few minutes and then decking it for the last minute or so was the way to go.

        2. Sweet. Someday I’m going build a brick version of that style oven. Someday….sigh…someday

        3. AlmightyJB

          Jelly. Nice za!

    2. westernsloper

Looks good. I prefer a thinner crust but I would eat those no problemo.

      1. Spudalicious

Yeah. I made the dough a little heavy but it was still pretty tender.

    3. Rhywun

I’ll have some of #1 please.

      1. Spudalicious

The first pizza had to be a Margherita. I’m pretty sure it’s an iron law.

    4. totally_not_an_escaped_ai

Where the hell is the pineapple?! //jk Looks good!

      1. Spudalicious

This oven doesn’t work with pineapple, or deep dish.

  17. Cacciatore

    Allo Glibs.

Just getting home; I’ve been serving on the team of a cursillo event at my church since Thursday evening. Missed any and all opportunities for hedonism this weekend. Missed the Night Shift, sorry Sir Digglesworth!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, I sure did.

  18. Movie update. Saw a beautiful restoration presentation of “A Face in the Crowd” this afternoon. Another one I wish I had seen sooner. The reviews/summaries don’t do it justice – esp with the restoration – Andy Griffiths performance is off the charts…and some real hotties too. + Walter Matthau. (I get the feeling the intent of this timing was in terms of “current politics” but frankly in terms of Empty Suits, I was thinking a lot more about Obama, etc.

Catching the 45th anniversary presentation of Godfather Pt 2 on Tuesday night via Fathom Events. Should be very cool on the big screen. Also for Fathom – they do have some more screenings of “They Shall Not Grow Old” in Dec – not sure if 3D or not, but worth it if you still haven’t seen it.

In the next couple of weeks also hoping to catch “The Lighthouse” (probably on Wed unless I can get confirmation that it’ll be in theaters after Thursday). Jojo Rabbit and Parasite are also on the list….Armand White’s criticism notwithstanding (NRO).

    1. Speaking of flicks, we finally have a trailer for Richard “Dust Devil” Stanley’s “The Color Out of Space”. Looks about what I’d expect for a big budget version – will definitely try and catch it. (although I have a soft spot for the indie version: Die Farbe.)

Still no trailer for VFW though…. 🙁 “Little Monsters” also sounds/looks fun. Not sure about dates for that one either.

      1. CPRM

I thought it was ‘The Colour From Out of Time‘.

  19. Oh yeah…if you’re anywhere in NoVa or on the I-95 corridor…Gourmeltz (I’ve tweeted about them a lot – should be the only entry on facebook/google) will have free sammiches for vets tomorrow – probably just the BBQ+mac and cheese melt – but it’s a classic, and they’ve got a ton of other things to try too.

Looks like my buddy may be able to open a 3rd location much sooner than expected in Charlottesville – a sweet spot opened up downtown between the downtown mall and the Corner. Perfect location for him. Fingers crossed.

  20. The night’s first bare breasts will soon emerge… last chance to debate your fellow Glibs and be crowned Supreme Shitlord!

  21. Ozymandias

I hope TPTB will give me a little slack in publishing this post from my personal blog on the Marine Corps’ birthday and Veteran’s Day. I originally wrote it three years ago in honor of the death of a close friend, but I dusted it off and I think it still holds up. Comments, critique, and the usual Glib mockery are welcome here or there. S/F

    https://www.theabjectlesson.com/2016/11/11/on-what-it-means-to-be-a-marine-on-our-241st-birthday/

    1. Gustave Lytton

That’s beautiful Ozy, no mockery. It’s been my pleasure to work with some Marines over the years- mainly ANGLICO teams and a Army/USMC/Kuwaiti signals intercept thing (note to young snuffies- using COTS FRS radios without crypto for personal comms including observations of the female personnel of a signals intercept unit is inadvisable). Still have the end of mission certificate somewhere.

      1. Gustave Lytton

And Marine jokes are still fair game.

        1. Ozymandias

Gustave, Marine jokes are *always* fair game.
Re: Comms – BEAD WINDOW! BEAD WINDOW!

    2. westernsloper

Good stuff. Sorry for the loss of your friend and comrade. Being an ex coasty I like marines. When we would run into you guys in the bar we would get drunk and bad mouth the squids.

    3. Fourscore

I read your adventure blog, some of it was familiar, like “Welcome to Infantry OCS”, I can’t visit the VN Memorial Wall, the names of my classmates only brings back the bitterness of the last 50 years. Tomorrow will be a somber day

      1. Ozymandias

I hope you will not find it impertinent, 4×20, for a whippersnapper to offer that there needn’t be bitterness over their (apparent) untimely demise.
“A greater love hath no man…”
The perceptions about wars, or any particular war, change like clothing: Sometimes a War fashionable, later it’s not. Then more years pass and maybe it is again. But none of us who went should be concerning ourselves with our war’s popularity. What matters is what we did while we were there in impossible circumstances, where Man is given license to be at his worst. I saw acts of unimaginable, heart-rending savagery, but I also saw acts of impossible courage, kindness, and Man being as close to the Divine as he can. I’ve come to understand that we can’t have the latter without the former. e.g. We don’t get Viktor Frankl’s “Man’s Search for Meaning” without the Holocaust, as terrible as that sounds.
Be of good cheer, my friend. It was not for nought. Our remembrance itself is an act of kindness and love.

  22. I can’t bear to read TV Tropes. Now, I understand that TV Tropes is a taxonomy of storytelling tools and tricks, but … It almost seems like they have categorized every single word in the English language. I know nothing is original. I know that people like the same stories (which is why there are so few). I know that what people want is the storyteller’s “voice.”

But TV tropes makes me feel like, “What am I doing this for? Why do I write? It’s already ALL RIGHT HERE.” Every storytelling trick I have ever used, every trope I have ever liked … all there and reduced to snickering. The tone of the whole site seems to be, “Can’t you people come up with anything original? You’re all hacks.”

I didn’t know about TV Tropes until someone noted that I hang lanterns all over the place. Well, I knew what hanging lanterns was from my college classes and I knew I was doing it and I knew why, but she gave me the link anyway and I went there.

No, what TV Tropes really makes me feel like is a hack.

    1. Sir Digby

Please don’t stress yourself out over what is essentially a nerd show-off site.

      Unless that site is glibertarians.com

      1. nerd show-off site

I never thought of it like that. I will consider. In the meantime, this makes me very happy.

          1. Yes, yes, it does. Thank you!

Related: I’ve read some YouTube comments to the effect of, “SixxAM is too uplifting. They need to do more dark stuff.”

            Allrightythen.

        1. Sir Digby

Good! I kinda get your scorn for that site. It can be helpful from a noob/consumer of TV standpoint, but must be frustrating to see actual creative work broken down to something kind of “base”.

          1. It’s not scorn. More like … finding out Santa isn’t real. (That was a traumatic day. I still remember.)

          2. Sir Digby

            OK–think I understand that better.

    2. one true athena

I heard a film composer say a while back — there are only so many note combinations that are pleasing to the Western ear. It is inevitable that you will use some of them. You can’t avoid them all and you shouldn’t want to, because it’s how those blocks are put together that make it your own. Similarly with tropes for writing.

Not to mention there are usually opposite tropes. One might be less common, but there’s still usually Face-Heel-Turn AND a Heel-Face-Turn as a trope. So it’s literally impossible to avoid one or the other in that circumstance. The only time I think it might be useful to look up a certain circumstance is if, for ex, you think you’re writing a Cool Gender Flip of the “Many Guys vying for the Female Lead” trope, and not realizing you may be writing the Harem anime trope instead. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s good to know the “subversion” may tread on a different trope if you don’t know it exists (and is hella common, just not in one’s own genre, say)

Agreed, but I’d make an exception.

          1. westernsloper

That is S Padre Island. I recognize the building behind those tits. And god bless that young lady for standing in front of it.

          2. JD is Unemployed

I hope there’s at least factor 30 on those puppies

    1. AlmightyJB

      Good Lord

    2. Chafed

If you were serious about getting people to participate in the Great Glib Debate Series then this would be the topic.

    3. Biff

      Has a sad

    4. Biff

      I has a sad.

      1. Looks like Biff is a late entry!

  24. westernsloper

I always enjoy watching Dallas lose.

      ?

    2. Tundra

      Damn straight.

    3. AlmightyJB

My Vikings needed that win. They sure don’t make it easy on themselves.

  25. Straffin-san.

There is an outside chance that I will be going to Nippon in January.

    1) Could you meet up?
    2) Anything special to do in Tokyo at that time?

    1. Gustave Lytton

      Wind proof jacket.

      1. Gustave Lytton

And depending on when you’re there, the bimonthly sumo tournament is in Tokyo that month.

    2. Cacciatore

“Anything special to do in Tokyo?” asks the booby loving one…

      Ha!

      1. Two words:

        Soap. Land.

        1. Cacciatore

          Egg Zackly

        2. Gustave Lytton

    3. JaimeRoberto Delecto

More importantly, how’s the weather in January? A little nippy?

    4. straffinrun

Of course. Just let Tejicano or me know when. There’s always stuff going on. New Years holiday is family time, but I’m sure we could find something.

  26. PieInTheSky

    So the votes are in

    Klaus Iohannis: 37,58% (3,393,552 voturi)

    Viorica Dăncilă: 22,67% (2,047,115 voturi)

    Dan Barna: 14,66% (1,324,081 voturi)

    Mircea Diaconu: 8,95%

    Toader Paleologu: 5,7%

    Kelemen Hunor: 3,95%

    Good morning glibs.

    1. westernsloper

      So Hunor was the libertarian?

      1. Rhywun

Toader must be the 4chan candidate.

      2. PieInTheSky

Hunor is the Hungarian who always gets around 4%

        1. Sir Digby

          Hunor > G. Johnson

    2. Fourscore

And now a run off of the top 2 or 3?

      1. PieInTheSky

        top 2

  27. CPRM

I know we have rigged elections here when someone get %110 of the vote; but how can you not see how corrupt the process is when someone gets %37,000?

    1. CPRM

Damn, meant as reply to pie!

      1. PieInTheSky

        still makes no sense 🙂

        1. CPRM

Here in the free world, a comma [ , ] denotes a number over One Thousand. So at a quick glance, those all look like thousands of percents, mean way over one hundred percent.

          1. Sir Digby

Must admit I like the word ‘voturi’.

  28. Sir Digby

    Anyone still here?

Seems like this has become my sort-of calling card around here.

    1. Akira

Still here! Just got back from jogging (cool temperature, a bit foggy, and beautifully silent out there at this hour). My cottage pie is in the oven, and I guess I’ll read a book and hang out here until my bedtime at 4 AM.

    2. straffinrun

I’m around. Was thinking about what glibs will look like in 2,5,10 years. Will people still be interacting through links? What new form of internet communication will take over Twitter and/or FB? What restrictions on free speech will become the norm and what will the punishment be for violating these new norms?

      1. Sir Digby

        Interesting thoughts!

      2. Akira

Well the Internet has already been destroyed due to the repeal of Net Neutrality, so it’s irrelevant.

        1. straffinrun

Even w/o NN, FB is suspending people for simply posting the Politico article that names the whistle blower.

          1. straffinrun

Temped to try it myself, but I need FB for work.

      3. Gustave Lytton

Does this mean I’m going to have to start wearing pants?

        1. Sir Digby

          Not necessarily…..

    3. Gustave Lytton

Me too, for a little while longer. Then to sleep to start the hamster wheel all over again.

      1. Sir Digby

Fortunately, my hamster wheel doesn’t have to turn so far this week.

The level of deformation to the kei truck is shocking unless they had it floored. Judging by the traffic in the background, it doesn’t look like it should have been going more than about 30mph.

    1. straffinrun

He plowed into some nursery school teachers at a crosswalk. Damn. When we were looking at new cars, I checked out a Tanto in the showroom. Looked nice, but when I opened the door I quickly noticed how flimsy the metal was.

      1. straffinrun

Oh, and on a side note, an old lady was walking behind me the other day. I heard her take a spill and turned around and extended my hand to help her up. She was about 5’3 and normal round old lady shape. Gave her pull and my back tweaked. Amazing how much weight those old broads have packed in their extra long Japanese colons. Given one of the nursery school teachers was a 60 year old lady, he’s lucky the truck had that little amount of damage.

        1. Sir Digby

          Japanese colons

          Hmmmm…..Band name?

          1. straffinrun

Wish I had ¥500 for every time a Japanese person pointed out that they have longer colons than other races. It’s a weird point of pride I don’t quite get.

          2. Sir Digby

Maybe they think the same thing about claims of bigger packages. Or, this comes about from that….

“Yeah, you Asians have real small genitals.”

“Yeah, well, you should see our colons! Nice and long. Girthy, even.”

          3. straffinrun

            We will out digest you.

          4. Sir Digby

            What a shitty sentiment!

          5. Gustave Lytton

While banging a geta on the podium?

      2. Gustave Lytton

Damn indeed. Given the number of police doing measurements and recordings, it looked like there had been a fatality.

  30. l0b0t

Checking in sporadically while busy at work. I just wanted to give love to all my veteran brothers in arms be you Squids, Junior Birdmen, Crayon Eaters, or proper Soldiers. And to everyone else, a wonderful day.

    1. Sir Digby

      L0!! ?

one Air Force liaison officer is in critical condition after drinking too much champagne and choking on his caviar

        Sounds about right.

      2. TARDIS

        LMAO

I just shared that with two of jarheads I work with. They just laughed and said, “Dayum.”

        1. TARDIS

Oops, first Gilmore of the day.
          *Points down*

          1. l0b0t

            Awesome!

  31. l0b0t

I had a buddy in the Navy. He spent the bulk of his career flying out of Turkey, doing radio intercepts. He told me a joke. A joke that will start a bar fight quick as a wink if told in the right company.

A young boy is dining with his family at a restaurant in San Diego when he feels the call of nature.
He scoots off to the restroom whereupon he sees a Marine at the first urinal. “WOW! Are you a real Marine?” the boy inquires.
“Why yes I am son. Would you like to wear my cover?” replied the Devil Dog.
WOW! That would be so cool! the boy shouts while putting the hat on his head with pride.
The boy walks a further into the restroom and sees a Sailor at the last urinal. “WOW! Are you a real Sailor?” asks the boy.
The Sailor beams with pride and proclaims “Why, yes I am son. Would you like to suck my dick?”
“No thanks mister” says the boy “I’m not a real Marine. I’m only wearing his hat.”

    1. TARDIS

Got a good laugh at the morning meeting with this one too.

  32. Gender Traitor

::yawns. Sips coffee:: Anyone still about? I don’t work today, but I’m up early to go to the Y with Mr. GT. Thinking fond thoughts of my favorite veterans – my maternal grandfather, who fought in WWI, and an uncle who was a Middie, then career Navy and skippered a sub in the Pacific in WWII.

    1. TARDIS

Morning GT, I am hoping for a quiet day today. The traffic home should be good too.

      1. Gender Traitor

Mornin’, TARDy! I wish you a peaceful workplace and light traffic. The downside to the day off for me is that tomorrow I’ll have to process our staff payroll pronto – usually every other Monday and invariably falls on the week of a Monday holiday – and will have to distribute a ton of snail mail.

    2. Gender Traitor

At the risk of semi-doxxing myself and/or seeming unseemly, I’m gonna brag on my uncle.

      1. TARDIS

Impressive, truly. You are right to brag.
